- 2:55Speaker 3: of the years.
- 2:55Speaker 6: Here.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Time to look back, as many people do at this
- 2:58Speaker 5: time of year, but we want to look ahead and
- 3:01Speaker 5: we got breaking news I think to get to as well.
- 3:04Speaker 5: I want to welcome to the show this morning, Metro News.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Brad Michael Honey, Brad, Good morning, sir.
- 3:10Speaker 7: Oh hi, good morning and hello to a.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Whaling.
- 3:17Speaker 7: Yeah you're in studio guest.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Yes, Whaling and Grady. The cat's Amelia.
- 3:21Speaker 5: If you don't know, Brad, it's a tradition Steve and
- 3:23Speaker 5: Brad always gives a big shout out to my cats.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Whaling and Grady. Who are well. I wonder what they're doing. Oh,
- 3:29Speaker 3: they're sleeping.
- 3:30Speaker 5: That's what they're doing right now, because they're house cats
- 3:32Speaker 5: and that's what they do.
- 3:33Speaker 3: But Brad, thank you for joining us.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Amelia nicely from West Virginia watches here. Good morning, dear,
- 3:36Speaker 5: How are you good morning? How are you doing your voice?
- 3:40Speaker 5: It's not good.
- 3:42Speaker 8: It's not I promise this is not from yelling at
- 3:45Speaker 8: my children. We've had a wonderful break. I'm just getting
- 3:48Speaker 8: over a cold. But thanks for having that.
- 3:49Speaker 9: You're good right, I'm great.
- 3:51Speaker 3: A love of that going around. Steven Allen Adams, how
- 3:52Speaker 3: you do it man.
- 3:53Speaker 10: I'm feeling great, man, I'm feeling squirrely.
- 3:55Speaker 9: I'm ready to go.
- 3:56Speaker 5: We could only hope many people would that Stephen and
- 3:58Speaker 5: Dave would would lose their voice. Right, that's only the hope.
- 4:01Speaker 10: Ah, people pray for it all the time. But I
- 4:04Speaker 10: don't know if I ever have lost my voice.
- 4:06Speaker 5: I frequently do, and it's usually like a sinus infection
- 4:09Speaker 5: type thing. When it got me, I just lose my voice.
- 4:11Speaker 5: I feel like you, Meil, Yeah, I feel fine, no
- 4:13Speaker 5: fever or whatever. But I have to tag somebody in,
- 4:16Speaker 5: you know, from time to time. All right, Brad, I
- 4:19Speaker 5: came downstairs this morning and walked into.
- 4:21Speaker 3: The green room.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Stephen and Amelia in there, and they hit me with
- 4:25Speaker 5: this story, this breaking story. As we are closing twenty
- 4:29Speaker 5: twenty five, have you heard the news of you? And
- 4:31Speaker 5: I said I I did not. So I'm going to
- 4:34Speaker 5: give an opportunity for one of them, either one of you.
- 4:37Speaker 5: This show has no format whatsoever this morning. Either one
- 4:39Speaker 5: of you to jump in, and Brad, you can weigh
- 4:41Speaker 5: in and I'll bring it up in the rear.
- 4:43Speaker 2: But what.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Have you got? Not a funny joke in my current
- 4:51Speaker 3: medical condition?
- 4:52Speaker 11: All right?
- 4:53Speaker 3: All right, all right, all right, Brad, go ahead, I
- 4:55Speaker 3: mean Stephen go ahead.
- 4:56Speaker 9: Sure.
- 4:57Speaker 10: So our Governor Patrick Morrisey tweeted this at twelve o
- 5:01Speaker 10: one am early this morning. Quote I want This was
- 5:06Speaker 10: in response to a Mountain State Spotlight tweet looking back
- 5:09Speaker 10: at some of their stories from twenty twenty five, but quote,
- 5:13Speaker 10: I want to see your stories about the squirrel extermination
- 5:17Speaker 10: program where you wasted massive taxpayer resources trying to chase
- 5:21Speaker 10: false rumors. Mountain State Spotlight, please address unquote. So this
- 5:28Speaker 10: is addressing a I hate to even bring it up
- 5:32Speaker 10: because we've all looked into this and it's nonsense. But
- 5:36Speaker 10: like the governor sort opened himself up for this one.
- 5:39Speaker 10: There had been rumors about employees at the state capital
- 5:44Speaker 10: Complex disposing of an exterminating some of the squirrel population
- 5:49Speaker 10: on Capitol grounds, the beloved squirrel population in the Capitol grounds.
- 5:52Speaker 10: Speculate about some of the reasons. There's some funny stories
- 5:55Speaker 10: out there. Ultimately turned out not to be true. But
- 6:00Speaker 10: there are some reporters who I believe a file Freedom
- 6:03Speaker 10: of Information after request trying to get some additional information
- 6:06Speaker 10: about this. So far, it's been kind of relegated within
- 6:10Speaker 10: the world of capital dwellers. But but now it's sort
- 6:15Speaker 10: of out there now because the governor tweeted it out
- 6:18Speaker 10: and sell.
- 6:19Speaker 9: But yeah, it's a it's very squirrely.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Okay, Well I had heard this.
- 6:24Speaker 5: We've had text from time to time about you know,
- 6:27Speaker 5: in any time we've had the governor on people, you know,
- 6:29Speaker 5: and they text in a variety of things. And that's
- 6:32Speaker 5: to be understand no matter who the governor is. And
- 6:35Speaker 5: somebody had texted a couple of times, ask about the squirrels,
- 6:37Speaker 5: Ask about the squirrel Brad, what do you know about
- 6:39Speaker 5: this story?
- 6:41Speaker 7: If it's news, it's news to me. Uh So, the
- 6:46Speaker 7: squirrels at the Capitol are in great supply and they
- 6:50Speaker 7: probably could use a predator. You know, I'm a little
- 6:56Speaker 7: curious about the squirrels. A but be whatever massive massive
- 7:01Speaker 7: was the word tex tax payer dollars. I'd like that
- 7:04Speaker 7: to be further defined, Amelia.
- 7:07Speaker 12: I mean I heard these rumors as well.
- 7:09Speaker 8: At one point someone told me there were buckets of
- 7:11Speaker 8: deceased squirrels somewhere in the Capitol.
- 7:14Speaker 12: But yeah, I agree with that.
- 7:16Speaker 3: It wasn't the cafeteria. Although squirrels are delicious, is good.
- 7:20Speaker 3: I've eaten squirrel Yeah, that's very good.
- 7:22Speaker 12: I'm not even really a meat eater and squirrel gravy.
- 7:24Speaker 9: It's good.
- 7:25Speaker 8: But yeah, I would like to know more about the
- 7:27Speaker 8: massive resources because we deal with foyas all the time
- 7:31Speaker 8: and yeah, it's typically not uh And let's just say
- 7:35Speaker 8: in other branches of government responding to foyas doesn't seem
- 7:38Speaker 8: to be a massive overhaul.
- 7:40Speaker 10: All I'm saying is during Halloween there was this decoration
- 7:44Speaker 10: on the back gay of the Governor's match, and that
- 7:46Speaker 10: was just a bunch of little many skeletons were back
- 7:49Speaker 10: back there and like on a string, and there was
- 7:52Speaker 10: some specator.
- 7:54Speaker 3: No, we're not We're not implying that the governor would
- 7:56Speaker 3: do that.
- 7:56Speaker 10: Now you have looked, I have looked into this. I've
- 7:59Speaker 10: asked a few pe people. Look squirrels down with Capitol grounds.
- 8:02Speaker 10: There are hawks that kill the squirrels, there's other reasons
- 8:06Speaker 10: that squirrels can die on the grounds or whatnot. General
- 8:09Speaker 10: services are the ones that usually have to go around
- 8:11Speaker 10: pick them up and whatnot. I think everything has led
- 8:14Speaker 10: me to where maybe somebody else may do that and
- 8:18Speaker 10: spread a rumor that sort of thing. Are there too
- 8:20Speaker 10: many squirrels on the Capitol grounds. I don't know, I
- 8:23Speaker 10: mean maybe, but I mean.
- 8:26Speaker 12: One did jump in my backpack once. That's a real story.
- 8:29Speaker 10: Yeah, it dropped the dead squirrel in front of my
- 8:32Speaker 10: wife Jessica one time I do on Capitol Grounds.
- 8:34Speaker 3: It was a gift.
- 8:35Speaker 9: Yeah, it was a gift.
- 8:36Speaker 3: It was a gift.
- 8:37Speaker 5: All right, So we'll we'll just file this under a
- 8:40Speaker 5: non story. But again, you know, it probably is now
- 8:43Speaker 5: become a little bit more of a story that what
- 8:46Speaker 5: wouldn't have been Stephen because of the of the expost.
- 8:48Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, it's why everyone should be like me
- 8:51Speaker 10: and being bed by ten.
- 8:53Speaker 8: I know. I actually saw it at midnight because I
- 8:56Speaker 8: was up watching reality TV and I was like, oh,
- 8:58Speaker 8: I can't text Steven and Brad because they go to
- 8:59Speaker 8: bed normal hours like adult.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, we'll just move on from there. Brand
- 9:05Speaker 5: uh what and again, uh, we'll have more information as
- 9:08Speaker 5: it becomes available, as we say, as we.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Say in the business, not from us.
- 9:11Speaker 12: I'm not looking anymore.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Don't even get started talking about the China, because I
- 9:16Speaker 5: get somebody that texted you all the time that wants
- 9:18Speaker 5: me to ask the governor about the China at the
- 9:19Speaker 5: at the governor.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Look, I will say this, Uh.
- 9:23Speaker 5: One of the and I'm not trying to, you know,
- 9:25Speaker 5: be in any way, shape or form, you know, mean
- 9:29Speaker 5: hearted or whatever. I am happy that we have a
- 9:31Speaker 5: governor and a first Lady that are at the Governor's
- 9:35Speaker 5: Mansion as the constitution requires, and they seem like they
- 9:37Speaker 5: have really really taken to it and doing all the
- 9:40Speaker 5: decorating and doing all the things. They're not just a
- 9:43Speaker 5: Christmas but year around. So to me, that's refreshing to see.
- 9:45Speaker 10: Bringing in the tourists, I think, especially for Christmas was
- 9:48Speaker 10: especially nice. It's the hundredth Most people don't stop to
- 9:51Speaker 10: realize this. It's the one hundredth anniversary.
- 9:53Speaker 11: Uh.
- 9:54Speaker 10: This year was of the Governor's mansion from when it
- 9:57Speaker 10: was completed.
- 9:58Speaker 9: Uh.
- 9:58Speaker 10: And I know that, and I've talked to a few
- 10:01Speaker 10: people and the governor's staff. They're all about trying to
- 10:03Speaker 10: kind of highlight the mansion and showcase. It's one of
- 10:06Speaker 10: the reasons they did the tours here during the Christmas season.
- 10:10Speaker 10: And it's a beautiful place. If you've never been in it,
- 10:12Speaker 10: I take the tour.
- 10:13Speaker 5: Yeah, Brad in your opinion, and we'll kind of go
- 10:17Speaker 5: in this direction right now. Biggest one or two stories
- 10:22Speaker 5: that had the most impact in West Virginian in twenty
- 10:24Speaker 5: twenty five.
- 10:26Speaker 7: No, man, well, you know this is the tragedy involved.
- 10:30Speaker 7: This is going to be a bummer. But I certainly
- 10:33Speaker 7: think that it's the deployment of the West Virginian National
- 10:36Speaker 7: Guard to Washington, d C. Which was a major story
- 10:39Speaker 7: in itself, but it became about much more so with
- 10:43Speaker 7: the shootings of Sarah Bestrom and Andrew Wolfe. Bextrom of
- 10:47Speaker 7: course died on Thanksgiving Day, bringing that tragedy to a head.
- 10:52Speaker 7: I mean pointing for so many West Virginians who know
- 10:55Speaker 7: people much like her. She was a twenty twenty three
- 11:00Speaker 7: high school graduate, had her full life to live, and
- 11:03Speaker 7: you know you saw a community outpouring in response to
- 11:07Speaker 7: her death. Just just a senseless tragedy. And then Andrew
- 11:11Speaker 7: wolf also shot the day before Thanksgiving near the Farragut
- 11:17Speaker 7: West metro stop in Washington, d C. And you know
- 11:21Speaker 7: that's a tragedy too. He appears to be recovery, which
- 11:28Speaker 7: which warms the heart, but it's it's hard to think
- 11:32Speaker 7: that his life or his families will ever be the same.
- 11:35Speaker 7: And what so I mean to me that that was
- 11:40Speaker 7: a major story of twenty twenty five here in the
- 11:43Speaker 7: last weeks since Thanksgiving, and anyway, apologies to everyone for
- 11:48Speaker 7: being such a bummer, but I think.
- 11:50Speaker 5: No, and that's I mean, that's a there's no wrong answer.
- 11:53Speaker 5: I mean, I asked for people to kind of weigh
- 11:55Speaker 5: in on what they saw.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Amelia.
- 11:57Speaker 12: I was going to say that one because leading.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Let's just all agree on that, that was the story.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Stephen Okay, oh for sure, National Guard in general.
- 12:03Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, And I was going to say adding to that,
- 12:05Speaker 8: I mean it obviously Thanksgiving, it took a turn in
- 12:09Speaker 8: a very sad way, but there were a lot of
- 12:10Speaker 8: legal questions about it leading up to that too. Something
- 12:13Speaker 8: else that stands up to me this year is all
- 12:15Speaker 8: the school closures. Yes, and those are some of our
- 12:17Speaker 8: most read stories at West Virginia Watch. So you know,
- 12:21Speaker 8: it's not just here in Kenall County. It's all over
- 12:23Speaker 8: the state and in some of these rural counties. I mean,
- 12:26Speaker 8: I have Clay County looking at losing their only middle
- 12:28Speaker 8: school for the whole county. It's going to consolidate with
- 12:31Speaker 8: her high school. You have school, you have so many
- 12:33Speaker 8: elementary schools closing, and so I think just our declining
- 12:36Speaker 8: population other factors have played into that, and I think
- 12:41Speaker 8: while those may not be the stories you see above
- 12:43Speaker 8: the fold every day, those are the stories I think
- 12:45Speaker 8: communities are really grappling with this year.
- 12:48Speaker 6: Well.
- 12:48Speaker 10: I feel like the religious vaccine exemption issue has literally
- 12:53Speaker 10: been with us since beginning of twenty twenty five on,
- 12:55Speaker 10: literally from the day after Governor Morrissey took office, because
- 12:58Speaker 10: he does other executive order allowing for religious exemptions to
- 13:02Speaker 10: the school compulsory vaccine law for school aged children. Then
- 13:05Speaker 10: the legislative session happens, we have the governor's build codify that.
- 13:10Speaker 10: Of course it dies in the House. Then we have
- 13:12Speaker 10: the fight between the Governor and the State Board of
- 13:15Speaker 10: Education on the policies regarding that. Then we have the
- 13:17Speaker 10: lawsuit filed in Rowley County. We have the preliminary exemption
- 13:23Speaker 10: of the preliminary you know, stopping of this sort of thing.
- 13:28Speaker 10: You've got the permanent injunction, and now it's before the
- 13:32Speaker 10: State Supreme Court, and we're not even gonna get this
- 13:33Speaker 10: thing settled until probably the middle of twenty twenty six.
- 13:36Speaker 9: So it's been with.
- 13:37Speaker 10: Us all year long and really kind of sucking up
- 13:40Speaker 10: a lot of the oxygen.
- 13:41Speaker 5: Yeah, we have and I definitely want to get into
- 13:43Speaker 5: an area that you specialize in.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Amelia.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Well, you write a lot about it, I'll say, because
- 13:48Speaker 5: you specialize in a lot of different areas and that's
- 13:49Speaker 5: the that's the foster care situations.
- 13:51Speaker 3: We'll get in a little bit of it.
- 13:52Speaker 5: So we're going to take a break. Brad, can you
- 13:53Speaker 5: stick around with us? Or are are you off to
- 13:56Speaker 5: other duties?
- 13:59Speaker 7: The only other duty I have so far as I
- 14:01Speaker 7: am again reviewing the year with Dave Wilson.
- 14:03Speaker 5: Okay, all right, all right, so you're you're good to
- 14:06Speaker 5: stick through the break? Is that what you're saying? So, Brad, Brad,
- 14:11Speaker 5: are you okay to stay through the break with us? Okay,
- 14:15Speaker 5: Well we may have lost Brad. All right, Well we'll
- 14:18Speaker 5: keep the efforting Brad. We'll find out the answer to
- 14:19Speaker 5: that question. Maybe the squirrel's got him. All right, we'll

- 16:58Speaker 5: to pass this along to you. A traffic note of
- 17:00Speaker 5: I seventy seven was shut down in Kanawa County this
- 17:03Speaker 5: morning because of slick road conditions. Multiple crashes reported there
- 17:06Speaker 5: rex reported from mile marker one eleven to one thirteen
- 17:09Speaker 5: according to Metro, nine to one one according to deputies,
- 17:12Speaker 5: Two vehicles wrecked in a hillside, one structor guard rail,
- 17:16Speaker 5: and a rollover crash was reported. The deputies told WCCHS
- 17:20Speaker 5: television no relation that the Division of Highways has been
- 17:23Speaker 5: called to address road conditions not immediately known if travelers
- 17:26Speaker 5: had been injured. They've not provided a timeline for when
- 17:29Speaker 5: the interstate will open.
- 17:30Speaker 3: That's where we are right.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Now, and again, not a lot of snow out there
- 17:33Speaker 5: at all. I mean even at dusting a little bit
- 17:35Speaker 5: worse where I live in Putnam County than what it
- 17:38Speaker 5: was when I got into Charleston, But there is. Any
- 17:41Speaker 5: of the traffic folks will tell you there are more
- 17:43Speaker 5: accidents when there is a half an inch of snow
- 17:46Speaker 5: than when there are ten inches of snow because people
- 17:48Speaker 5: just don't think about it and they just don't slow down.
- 17:51Speaker 5: So that's an area outside as system bill this morning,
- 17:54Speaker 5: Amelia Nicely from West Virginia, watch Steven Allen Adams from
- 17:57Speaker 5: Ogden Newspapers. Brad mcilhanney is here, as we think, Brad.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Are you still with us?
- 18:02Speaker 13: Oh?
- 18:02Speaker 7: Hi, I believe I am.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Okay, all right.
- 18:05Speaker 5: We had a question that somebody called in and we
- 18:08Speaker 5: didn't put him on the air, but they had a question.
- 18:09Speaker 5: Maybe one of you all can answer this. Do we
- 18:11Speaker 5: have any updates on Andrew Wolfe's condition? If you guys
- 18:14Speaker 5: heard anything in a while, Amelia, Stephen, I'll let Ameli
- 18:17Speaker 5: I'll start with you. Any any updates that.
- 18:19Speaker 3: We've heard lately, not lately.
- 18:21Speaker 8: I feel like a week ago I saw another encouraging
- 18:24Speaker 8: post from his family.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, the governor I think talked about it. Brad,
- 18:28Speaker 3: do you have anything to update.
- 18:32Speaker 7: You know now and then the adjutant General Jim Seward
- 18:35Speaker 7: provides an update about Wolfe's condition, as does sometimes his
- 18:41Speaker 7: mother on social media, and I think all have been
- 18:45Speaker 7: positive signs. I mean, he's still in I think really
- 18:49Speaker 7: serious shape, has a long word ahead of him, but
- 18:53Speaker 7: it sounds like is continuing his recovery in physical rehabilitation's Stephen.
- 19:01Speaker 10: I think the most recent update was posted yesterday by
- 19:06Speaker 10: General Seward specific prayer requests for Andy. Priest joined me
- 19:10Speaker 10: in praying for Andy while he's engaged in intensive rehab
- 19:13Speaker 10: six hours a day, specifically for his speech and cognitive ability.
- 19:18Speaker 10: So it looks to me like he is just on
- 19:21Speaker 10: the rehabilitate rehabilitation train. Obviously long ways to go, but
- 19:27Speaker 10: it does sound like there's improvement with every day, so
- 19:31Speaker 10: that's wonderful to hear.
- 19:32Speaker 5: All right, guys, Speaker Handshaw had the Republican Caucus of
- 19:38Speaker 5: the House, you know, not long ago, they had two
- 19:39Speaker 5: three weeks ago, had a press conference over they were saying,
- 19:41Speaker 5: we are going to focus, uh, not so much on
- 19:44Speaker 5: social issues, but on business issues.
- 19:46Speaker 7: Now.
- 19:46Speaker 5: It's not to say that things can't come up, because
- 19:48Speaker 5: things do. But you know the House, and this was
- 19:50Speaker 5: not the Senate.
- 19:50Speaker 3: This was the House.
- 19:51Speaker 5: We are focused on business, commerce, you know, all the things.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Likelihood is we cross into the new year in a
- 19:58Speaker 5: couple of weeks we begin session. Likelihood that that continues.
- 20:01Speaker 5: Brad will start with you, Well.
- 20:05Speaker 7: You know, I think one indicator has been the Governor
- 20:08Speaker 7: Patrick Morrissey a couple of times has had press conferences
- 20:11Speaker 7: emphasizing economic matters. I think it was a good idea
- 20:17Speaker 7: by the House Speaker and the entire FUCUS to set
- 20:21Speaker 7: a goal and to work toward it as the session begins,
- 20:25Speaker 7: rather than just having things unstated. I think you're more
- 20:28Speaker 7: likely to actually focus and then you know, we've heard
- 20:32Speaker 7: I think very little from the Senate so far. You
- 20:35Speaker 7: do have to get things through two chambers, so it's
- 20:38Speaker 7: hard to tell when we finally hit the session what
- 20:42Speaker 7: the emphasis truly will be.
- 20:44Speaker 10: Yeah, we have the Lee Western jam Press Association has
- 20:47Speaker 10: its Legislative look Ahead a week from Friday this Friday,
- 20:51Speaker 10: where we'll hear from the House Speaker Hanshaw and Senate
- 20:55Speaker 10: President Randy Smith, so we should get more of a
- 20:57Speaker 10: view from the Senate side of things, hopefully where their
- 21:00Speaker 10: heads are at what they plan to do. But yeah,
- 21:04Speaker 10: I do think that the message has been received. There's
- 21:09Speaker 10: been pulling that the Chamber of Commerce has done, other
- 21:11Speaker 10: groups have done. People are interested in better economic conditions,
- 21:17Speaker 10: or interested more jobs, or interested I kind of hate
- 21:20Speaker 10: the use of this buzz word now, but but but
- 21:25Speaker 10: I mean, but it's true though, I mean, affordability is
- 21:27Speaker 10: a broad phrase. But people are interested in those types
- 21:30Speaker 10: of issues. And sure there will be some that tried
- 21:32Speaker 10: to push some social issues. I think State Cenator my
- 21:35Speaker 10: Cage Singers is going to probably bold across to every
- 21:38Speaker 10: school in the state by the time the legislative session's done.
- 21:41Speaker 10: But otherwise, I do think the focus is primarily going
- 21:44Speaker 10: to be on improving economic conditions.
- 21:48Speaker 12: I agree, I don't think.
- 21:50Speaker 8: I do think the House will have that focus because
- 21:52Speaker 8: you look at who's in some of the leadership positions
- 21:54Speaker 8: in the House, like Delegate jb Acres, even Delegate Warrel
- 21:58Speaker 8: who's over the House Health Committee. They aren't usually pushing
- 22:01Speaker 8: social issues, even if they might agree with some of
- 22:03Speaker 8: those things. So I don't think the House is really
- 22:06Speaker 8: going to stray from that. I mean, you never know,
- 22:07Speaker 8: it's an election, Ye're right, But I think it's what
- 22:10Speaker 8: happens after those bills leave that chamber.
- 22:12Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean there was not the best.
- 22:15Speaker 8: Vibes between the Senate and House last year, or the
- 22:18Speaker 8: Legislature and the governor, and so I think it just
- 22:20Speaker 8: it's more going to be what happens when that bill
- 22:22Speaker 8: leaves the House and how does it go.
- 22:24Speaker 5: It's nine twenty nine to Day Island showing five eighty

- 22:33Speaker 5: episodes wv metronews dot com to the podcast.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Menumeil, y'all want to start with you on.
- 22:38Speaker 5: The foster care situation. And unfortunately, you know, just like
- 22:42Speaker 5: there's two things foster care Peia and they kind of
- 22:46Speaker 5: they seem to be side by side A and B
- 22:49Speaker 5: or should I say six seven? I mean, don't please, don't.
- 22:52Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 22:53Speaker 5: Every now and then I throw something out that makes
- 22:55Speaker 5: Ryan just scratch his head, you know, but these two things,
- 23:01Speaker 5: it seems like this time last year we probably sat
- 23:05Speaker 5: here and said what about foster care and PI.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Take it from there.
- 23:10Speaker 8: I mean, so I think coming into this session, what
- 23:13Speaker 8: is a little bit different is that you have a
- 23:14Speaker 8: governor who has vowed changes to the foster care system.
- 23:18Speaker 8: And that's not to say that Governor Justice didn't want
- 23:20Speaker 8: those things or didn't bring them up, but Governor Morrissey
- 23:23Speaker 8: has held now two press conferences specifically calling for foster
- 23:27Speaker 8: care reform. He just rolled out a plan to bring
- 23:30Speaker 8: about three hundred kids from out of state back in
- 23:32Speaker 8: state who are in facilities.
- 23:34Speaker 12: We haven't really seen.
- 23:35Speaker 8: That focus from a governor, you know, in the last
- 23:37Speaker 8: few years. Then you have a group of lawmakers who
- 23:40Speaker 8: have already introduced close to fifteen bills about foster care.
- 23:43Speaker 8: So we're heading into the session, I think with a
- 23:46Speaker 8: very strong focus on this issue. I think the question
- 23:51Speaker 8: marks moving forward are money. A lot of these ideas
- 23:54Speaker 8: take money. This is not a legislature that has been
- 23:56Speaker 8: a fan of spending extra money. Lawmakers are hoping that
- 24:00Speaker 8: they can draw down some federal dollars to fix problems
- 24:03Speaker 8: like CPS not enough CPS workers, or their caseloads are
- 24:06Speaker 8: too high, or they want to put body cameras on
- 24:08Speaker 8: CPS workers. Right, They have all these ideas, so I
- 24:10Speaker 8: think that's something to move forward. And then also the
- 24:13Speaker 8: Department of Human Services has to buy into the legislation,
- 24:16Speaker 8: and I've already been told they're not a fan of
- 24:18Speaker 8: most of these bills. And to be fair, sometimes lawmakers
- 24:23Speaker 8: don't always know how to fix foster care right. But
- 24:25Speaker 8: also there has to be collaboration between the branches for
- 24:28Speaker 8: things to really work, not blame, not shoving it aside,
- 24:31Speaker 8: not saying we'll fix that, don't worry about it, and
- 24:33Speaker 8: then they don't.
- 24:34Speaker 12: So I think that's going to be the.
- 24:35Speaker 10: Thing to PIA specifically. I think whatever they end up
- 24:39Speaker 10: doing with PIA, if they do anything, I'm convinced that
- 24:42Speaker 10: they may not do anything. But if they do anything,
- 24:46Speaker 10: I think they'll make some tweaks, maybe to the spousal
- 24:48Speaker 10: search art issue, because that's obviously going up. It has
- 24:53Speaker 10: to go up because state code requires it to go
- 24:56Speaker 10: up and change based on certain set of metrics whatnot.
- 25:00Speaker 10: And the only way you can change that is the
- 25:02Speaker 10: legislature going in and tweaking that. I could see them
- 25:04Speaker 10: freezing that or someone trying to offer legislation to maybe
- 25:07Speaker 10: freeze that to keep it from going up for one
- 25:09Speaker 10: more year. But beyond that, I think whatever they do
- 25:13Speaker 10: is going to be around the edges.
- 25:15Speaker 5: Well, and one thing on the show last week, guys,
- 25:17Speaker 5: I had Delegate Andy Shamblin on, and he's in a
- 25:19Speaker 5: unique position because he's not only a legislator, but he's
- 25:21Speaker 5: also a teacher, a teacher at Nighter High School. And
- 25:24Speaker 5: of course they just went through that tragedy there when
- 25:27Speaker 5: the student took his own life. That students' parents have
- 25:30Speaker 5: gone public and said, you know, to try to warn
- 25:32Speaker 5: other parents about these science and things of that nature.
- 25:35Speaker 5: And I think the term we talked about terms at
- 25:38Speaker 5: this time of year, it's a relatively new term the last.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Couple of years, sextortion.
- 25:43Speaker 5: This story has gotten nationwide attention because unfortunately, not only
- 25:49Speaker 5: happens here, and this kind of happens all over the world.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Any possibility because.
- 25:53Speaker 5: Andy Shamlin, who is a teacher and a legislator, seemed
- 25:55Speaker 5: to be on the show last week very very adamant, guys,
- 25:58Speaker 5: that we're going to take a look at something here,
- 26:01Speaker 5: a code change or something.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Brad, do you have anything on that.
- 26:06Speaker 7: No, I mean, I think it's hard in the right place,
- 26:11Speaker 7: you know. To me, what is necessary is for kids
- 26:15Speaker 7: who are going through something like that to feel comfortable
- 26:19Speaker 7: revealing it to their parents or to the police or whoever.
- 26:22Speaker 7: And that's it's a big ask because you know it
- 26:26Speaker 7: works on embarrassment and humiliation.
- 26:29Speaker 8: Senator Chapman, who's over the Senate Health Committee, also has
- 26:32Speaker 8: a focus on this issue.
- 26:34Speaker 12: So I think this is one bill where we could see.
- 26:36Speaker 8: I think companion bills in the House and Senate move forward,
- 26:39Speaker 8: so I do think this is an issue we'll see.
- 26:41Speaker 10: I'd also point out the Delegate Chamblain Courses also on
- 26:43Speaker 10: the House Judiciary Committee as well. Liked delegate has good
- 26:47Speaker 10: relationship with with Chairman Acres, so I'd say this has
- 26:51Speaker 10: some real shoulders behind it to make it happen.
- 26:54Speaker 5: Twenty six Away from TAMA Day, violand show and find
- 26:56Speaker 5: Videoline Brown Team part by Hustin's Pizza. Get the Huston's

- 27:04Speaker 5: only thirty three ninety nine.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Now let's talk about it. You mentioned it. Twenty twenty
- 27:08Speaker 3: six is an election year.
- 27:09Speaker 5: I had State Democratic Party chair in deligate Mike Pushkin
- 27:12Speaker 5: on the Metro News midday program yesterday, and he had
- 27:14Speaker 5: told me he had been all of the state and
- 27:16Speaker 5: on the phone and on the zoom machine, you know,
- 27:18Speaker 5: talking with prospective candidates about running that had The Democrats
- 27:22Speaker 5: are very very serious. They see some inroads in West Virginia,
- 27:25Speaker 5: mainly because of what some would say would be some
- 27:29Speaker 5: infighting among Republicans. I think it's pretty ambitious. As much
- 27:33Speaker 5: as I like Mike Pushkin personally, I think it's very
- 27:36Speaker 5: ambitious to think that he'll be able to put somebody
- 27:39Speaker 5: in all those positions run and that they'll have a
- 27:41Speaker 5: legitimate shot at running. But let's talk about the Republicans
- 27:47Speaker 5: for a moment. We've had more and more people in
- 27:51Speaker 5: some very strong Republican areas on the come out said
- 27:54Speaker 5: they're going to run in the primary against other Republicans.
- 27:56Speaker 5: Now that wasn't it was that way with Democrats, but
- 27:58Speaker 5: always wasn't always that way with Republicans. Is that in
- 28:02Speaker 5: any of you, Guessteve, I'll start with you. Is is
- 28:04Speaker 5: that a sign that there's issues or is that a
- 28:07Speaker 5: sign that we're the controlling party and everybody wants a
- 28:10Speaker 5: piece of it and then we're doing well well.
- 28:12Speaker 10: I do think it is a sign that there are
- 28:15Speaker 10: some fractures within the Republican Party in the state and
- 28:19Speaker 10: Republican elected officials. I liking that the light red versus
- 28:22Speaker 10: dark red. Light red being who you would consider to
- 28:25Speaker 10: be your traditional Republicans pre Donald Trump Chamber of Commerce
- 28:31Speaker 10: style Republicans that are into certain social issues but on
- 28:34Speaker 10: the fringes, on the edges. But then you've got the
- 28:37Speaker 10: dark red, which are going to be more of the
- 28:39Speaker 10: far right, new right maga right types that are going
- 28:44Speaker 10: to take a harder stance and are going to be
- 28:47Speaker 10: kind of liberal on some issues that traditionally Republicans aren't
- 28:51Speaker 10: really on, like, for example, like tort reform and stuff
- 28:54Speaker 10: like that, and doing some issue trying to pull out
- 28:57Speaker 10: some of those tort reform issues. So I think you're
- 28:59Speaker 10: seeing that fight play out. A lot of the candidates
- 29:02Speaker 10: that they recruited, especially in the Senate on the Republican side,
- 29:05Speaker 10: are meant to take on some of the more conservative
- 29:08Speaker 10: members that have kind of come the leadership positions in
- 29:10Speaker 10: that body. So that's the fight I think you're seeing.
- 29:16Speaker 7: Well, yeah, I mean, I think what we've seen for
- 29:19Speaker 7: the last five years or so, maybe longer has been
- 29:23Speaker 7: has been conflicts among the supermajorities themselves. You know what
- 29:30Speaker 7: kind of what brand of Republican are you? And it's
- 29:32Speaker 7: it's been more that than than fights between Republicans and Democrats.
- 29:38Speaker 7: And I mean until Democrats make more inroads, that's that's
- 29:42Speaker 7: going to continue. And it's reflected in the closed primaries
- 29:46Speaker 7: that Republicans are about to embark on. You know, that's
- 29:50Speaker 7: that's a sign that the in fighting, I think, and.
- 29:53Speaker 5: The Republicans last year at their convention, guys, they came
- 29:57Speaker 5: out and they closed Brad alude to they closed primary.
- 30:00Speaker 5: So if you're a registered independent, you know, used to
- 30:04Speaker 5: go in be able to go in and say I
- 30:05Speaker 5: want to I'm a registered independent, but I want a
- 30:07Speaker 5: Republican or I want a Democrat.
- 30:09Speaker 8: Bow.
- 30:09Speaker 5: The Republicans have said no to that. Their argument that
- 30:11Speaker 5: got this, the people that got this passed. Their argument was,
- 30:14Speaker 5: if you're a Republican, then you should register as a Republican.
- 30:17Speaker 5: If you're a Democrat, you should register as a Democrat.
- 30:19Speaker 5: I said that, I think that's going to hurt the Republicans.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Some people agree, some people don't agree. I think that
- 30:25Speaker 5: the Democratic Party is and Pushkin and others have come
- 30:29Speaker 5: out and said, look, you they this is their imaging.
- 30:32Speaker 5: This is not what I'm saying. Their imaging has been Look,
- 30:34Speaker 5: they don't want you. You're welcome to to come over
- 30:38Speaker 5: to us. Do you think there'll be any impact come
- 30:40Speaker 5: the primary election.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Amelia, I do.
- 30:42Speaker 8: I mean, I don't know that I have a really
- 30:45Speaker 8: good prediction, but I do think we'll see an impact
- 30:47Speaker 8: on it, especially with this infighting with the Republicans. I
- 30:50Speaker 8: think if this had been done a few years ago,
- 30:54Speaker 8: maybe it wouldn't have mattered that much. But now with
- 30:56Speaker 8: this fracture that's really visible in the party, I think
- 30:59Speaker 8: it'll be interesting. We also have a new voter ID
- 31:02Speaker 8: law going into effect before this next election, where you
- 31:05Speaker 8: have to have what a driver's a government ID.
- 31:08Speaker 9: And we were one photo idea.
- 31:10Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, and so now like your Medicaid card and
- 31:13Speaker 8: some other forms of ID that maybe elderly voters which
- 31:16Speaker 8: were a very elderly state would have used to vote,
- 31:19Speaker 8: are not going to work. And we were told on
- 31:22Speaker 8: the House floor that that, you know, these county clerks
- 31:25Speaker 8: can print these new IDs.
- 31:27Speaker 12: I would like to verify that's actually something I want
- 31:29Speaker 12: to work on.
- 31:29Speaker 5: I can tell you, I can tell you I'll go
- 31:31Speaker 5: a little inside Baseball Here full disclosure. Steve and I
- 31:34Speaker 5: both will spent time in a Secretary of State's office.
- 31:36Speaker 5: I can tell you when the vote. The voter ID
- 31:38Speaker 5: law went into effect in twenty eighteen. The first time
- 31:41Speaker 5: it was used was in the Roads to Prosperity election. Yeah,
- 31:44Speaker 5: you could at that time go to your county clerk's
- 31:46Speaker 5: office and you could request a free photo ID because
- 31:50Speaker 5: I know, because some of us had to go on
- 31:52Speaker 5: the road and and put those cameras out there, and
- 31:56Speaker 5: they were absolutely free at that point. Very few people
- 32:00Speaker 5: we took them up on it, very few people. Most
- 32:01Speaker 5: people that came into the county clerk's office said well,
- 32:04Speaker 5: I just want another photo ID, and then they had
- 32:05Speaker 5: to explain to him, well, this is only for voting.
- 32:08Speaker 5: This is not going to get you your ability to
- 32:10Speaker 5: get a hotel room or sorry.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Right.
- 32:12Speaker 8: And I had seen a news story, I think in
- 32:14Speaker 8: Hancock County months ago that they got a grant to
- 32:16Speaker 8: get the machine to make these voto ideas. So it
- 32:18Speaker 8: got me thinking like, well who else needs a grant
- 32:20Speaker 8: to get those?
- 32:20Speaker 2: Right?
- 32:21Speaker 12: So anyway, I just I'm not saying that I'll have
- 32:23Speaker 12: a massive effect, but I.
- 32:24Speaker 8: Think the closed primary the voter, right, like, there's some
- 32:26Speaker 8: things that play in this election that'll be interesting.
- 32:28Speaker 3: So even you want to follow up on that.
- 32:29Speaker 10: Yeah, I think she's right, and I think look, I mean,
- 32:33Speaker 10: Trump nationwide is not popular, but he remains popular in West.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Virginia, and zero signed that that's changing in West Virginia.
- 32:40Speaker 10: Not no change of that in the state of West Virginia.
- 32:42Speaker 10: But do I think, particularly you're more urban parts of
- 32:46Speaker 10: the state that Democrats can take maybe one or two
- 32:49Speaker 10: House seats, maybe take a Senate seat, perhaps up in
- 32:53Speaker 10: the Montegalia Marion County corridor.
- 32:56Speaker 9: I think it's possible.
- 32:57Speaker 10: I think you might see a few Democratic pickups, not
- 32:59Speaker 10: a lot, not enough to break up the super majority
- 33:01Speaker 10: and the Republicans, but enough the where it might make
- 33:05Speaker 10: somebody raise a few eyebrows.
- 33:07Speaker 12: I think that's this election.
- 33:08Speaker 8: A Democrat candidate described it to me as a lightning
- 33:11Speaker 8: and a bottle moment, and I would agree with that.
- 33:13Speaker 12: Yeah, there's no Trump on the ticket or a JD.
- 33:16Speaker 8: Vans, I think, and people are very frustrated with national politics,
- 33:21Speaker 8: local politics.
- 33:21Speaker 12: Why can I not afford my grocery bill?
- 33:23Speaker 8: And so those things along with this closed primary, all
- 33:26Speaker 8: these things might play in Temacris well.
- 33:28Speaker 5: And I'll kind of close with this and Brad, I'll
- 33:30Speaker 5: give you an opportunity to wag in this as well.
- 33:32Speaker 5: In talking to Pushkin on the mid Day Show yesterday,
- 33:35Speaker 5: I said, you know, as a marketing from a marketing perspective,
- 33:38Speaker 5: to go in and convince somebody who may be very
- 33:40Speaker 5: very strong in their beliefs, you know that I'm a
- 33:45Speaker 5: Democrat and I want to run. What they're going to
- 33:47Speaker 5: do when they go into some of these areas and
- 33:49Speaker 5: they knock on doors and a lot of questions because
- 33:52Speaker 5: I've been there, I've seen it, a lot of questions
- 33:54Speaker 5: are going to be Okay, you're a registered Democrat, how
- 33:56Speaker 5: do you feel about Trump?
- 33:57Speaker 3: And when you.
- 33:58Speaker 5: Go into some of these hollers and West Virginia, as
- 34:01Speaker 5: soon as you say, well, I'm not really a door
- 34:03Speaker 5: slams because that's where West Virginia is right now, and
- 34:06Speaker 5: it's it's rough. And push Can admitted that on show
- 34:09Speaker 5: it's going to be rough to try to convince people
- 34:10Speaker 5: to run. Although he says they're doing a good job
- 34:12Speaker 5: and I believe him on that, but to to you know,
- 34:16Speaker 5: get that image that because all politics has become national
- 34:19Speaker 5: over the last couple of years to say, I am
- 34:21Speaker 5: a old school West Virginia Republican. And then they start
- 34:25Speaker 5: throwing out the turns Biden, Pelosi, Kamala Harris, so on
- 34:27Speaker 5: and so forth.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Brad, your thoughts on that, and we'll and then and
- 34:30Speaker 3: then we'll let you go. How's that? And and I've
- 34:32Speaker 3: got other things to get to as well.
- 34:35Speaker 7: Well. You know, I would say the most important election
- 34:38Speaker 7: this spring in West Virginia is actually non partisan. There
- 34:41Speaker 7: are two seats up on the state Supreme Court. That
- 34:43Speaker 7: has been a move to try to make those partisan races.
- 34:47Speaker 7: But they are non partisan for now, two out of
- 34:49Speaker 7: the five justices, and they have important things ahead of
- 34:52Speaker 7: them this year. So if that's not on your radar, listeners,
- 34:57Speaker 7: I really think it should be.
- 34:58Speaker 9: It should be.
- 34:58Speaker 3: You're absolutely right. We'll close with that. Brad.
- 35:01Speaker 5: Thank you so much, and I hope you and the
- 35:02Speaker 5: family have a very very happy New Year.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Thanks for joining us.
- 35:05Speaker 5: I know you're gonna be on talk line with Wilson

- 38:48Speaker 5: It is New Year's Eve, though a lot of people
- 38:49Speaker 5: are going to be out celebrating, some of us on
- 38:51Speaker 5: our couches, checking out about ten and hopefully waking up
- 38:55Speaker 5: town to see the ball drop at midnight. But others
- 38:56Speaker 5: are going to go out and sadly many will try
- 38:58Speaker 5: to drive home after they've had a few too many
- 39:01Speaker 5: and with the projected snowfall tonight, just all around never
- 39:06Speaker 5: a good idea of but especially when you add a
- 39:07Speaker 5: little snow and ice. So it started to Jeremy Burns
- 39:09Speaker 5: from the Kanawh County Sheriff's Partment's here and he joins us.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Now good morning, sir, and welcome to the show.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Good morning, good to be here.
- 39:14Speaker 5: First of all, I talked earlier about this traffic situation
- 39:17Speaker 5: on I seventy seven around Cistonville, and I know that
- 39:20Speaker 5: when you leave here, I think you're gonna go and
- 39:21Speaker 5: try to help those guys out up there. There's slick
- 39:25Speaker 5: conditions out there this morning. Not a lot of snow,
- 39:26Speaker 5: but there's slick conditions out there, and you guys are
- 39:28Speaker 5: on it.
- 39:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 39:29Speaker 4: I've been in contact with the news all morning, and
- 39:30Speaker 4: I've actually lost count of the number of recks we've
- 39:32Speaker 4: actually had where we have deputies working accidents with accidents
- 39:36Speaker 4: happening right beside them. Yeah, so it's pretty bad up there.
- 39:38Speaker 4: They have I believe the south Found lane shut down
- 39:40Speaker 4: right now. Yeah, just wait on DH show up and
- 39:42Speaker 4: salt the roads.
- 39:43Speaker 5: Yeah, it's gonna get better a little bit later on
- 39:44Speaker 5: to the day because we're gonna get a little sunshine
- 39:46Speaker 5: actually warm up to around four thirty seven forty degrees
- 39:48Speaker 5: wearing in general neighborhood. All right, it should be a
- 39:51Speaker 5: no brainer, you know, to tell people don't drink and drive,
- 39:54Speaker 5: but people do it, and they do it, not just
- 39:56Speaker 5: on New Year's Eve, they do it year round. But
- 39:58Speaker 5: adding to the fact tonight we are going to have
- 40:00Speaker 5: some snow roll in they say after night or ten
- 40:02Speaker 5: ocloss couldn't make it even worse. Your advice to people
- 40:04Speaker 5: if they're heading out tonight, First.
- 40:07Speaker 4: And foremost, we want you to have fun, go out
- 40:09Speaker 4: and enjoy New Year's Eve, celebrate, hang out with your friends.
- 40:12Speaker 4: But we want you to be responsible. We want you
- 40:14Speaker 4: to be safe, and more importantly, we just want to
- 40:16Speaker 4: make sure you're not drinking and driving.
- 40:18Speaker 5: And what about do you have extra patrols out tonight
- 40:21Speaker 5: or I mean, here's the thing. Anytime I talk to
- 40:23Speaker 5: anybody from the Kenaw County Sheriff's apart, but I mean,
- 40:25Speaker 5: Connaw County is a big old county. I mean it's
- 40:28Speaker 5: really it really is huge. And uh, but you're bringing
- 40:31Speaker 5: an extra patrol.
- 40:32Speaker 4: So yeah, we're gonna put six additional deputies out this evening.
- 40:34Speaker 4: And the whole reason for them being out is to
- 40:37Speaker 4: target impair driving, right.
- 40:40Speaker 5: And what I mean I don't want to give away
- 40:42Speaker 5: trade secrets here, but I mean, what as a police officer,
- 40:47Speaker 5: how do I mean do you do you there's signs
- 40:49Speaker 5: obviously that you look for, but you know, you know,
- 40:52Speaker 5: you're veering from lane to lane something like that. Officer,
- 40:56Speaker 5: what are you looking at.
- 40:57Speaker 4: When you're impaired. You have a hard time first and
- 40:59Speaker 4: foremost keeping your car. You've heard between the lines, that's
- 41:01Speaker 4: when you're going over the center line, going over the
- 41:03Speaker 4: white line on your right. You have people that drive
- 41:05Speaker 4: the wrong speed limit. They'll drive twenty miles slower they
- 41:09Speaker 4: probably should be, or twenty miles faster. So there's a
- 41:11Speaker 4: lot of things that factor into that. But we do
- 41:13Speaker 4: our traffic stop. We go and talk to the driver.
- 41:16Speaker 4: We look for certain signs. We look for, you know,
- 41:18Speaker 4: the odor of alcohol. We look at your bloodshot eyes,
- 41:21Speaker 4: and if those symptoms are there, then we I show
- 41:23Speaker 4: a step out and do a few field.
- 41:24Speaker 5: Spready, if you are, and I'm not trying to give
- 41:27Speaker 5: away you know, if this is how you get by
- 41:28Speaker 5: with it, that's not what I'm trying to do at all.
- 41:30Speaker 3: Don't don't read me wrong. But if you are.
- 41:32Speaker 5: If someone who's had a few drinks at a New
- 41:34Speaker 5: Year's Eve party or any time and they get pulled over,
- 41:37Speaker 5: is it better to just say Okay, I made a
- 41:41Speaker 5: mistake here.
- 41:42Speaker 3: I mean, it's always better to be honest yeah, front
- 41:45Speaker 3: with the officer.
- 41:46Speaker 4: But when it comes to New Year's Eve and it
- 41:48Speaker 4: comes to impaired driving, we don't show any tolerance. Right,
- 41:51Speaker 4: if you're impaired and you're putting other people's lives in danger,
- 41:54Speaker 4: you're going up in handcuffs.
- 41:55Speaker 5: Heis well, and it's not just about you. And sometimes,
- 41:59Speaker 5: you know, you could see situations where someone is you
- 42:03Speaker 5: may think that you're okay. Well, what if somebody that
- 42:05Speaker 5: is sober crashes into you and and you're intoxic, you
- 42:09Speaker 5: can still be charged. I mean even though you weren't
- 42:11Speaker 5: necessarily the person that caused the accident.
- 42:13Speaker 4: You cannot operate a motor vehicle compaired whatsoever. So whether
- 42:17Speaker 4: you're a cause for the accident or not, if you're
- 42:19Speaker 4: involved in that, it looks like it's your fault.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, one hundred pent.
- 42:22Speaker 5: Bottom line is is you know, as you said, sergeant
- 42:25Speaker 5: and you were talking with Sergeant Sergeant jam By Burns
- 42:27Speaker 5: the Kana County Sheriff's Department, if you want to go
- 42:29Speaker 5: out and have fun, if you are going to have
- 42:31Speaker 5: a few or one even get a designated driver, put
- 42:35Speaker 5: a diet coke in somebody's hand, or a water or whatever,
- 42:38Speaker 5: and and.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Just and don't take that.
- 42:40Speaker 5: And there's too many options out there now, you know,
- 42:43Speaker 5: than what there were fifteen twenty years ago, because you know,
- 42:45Speaker 5: everybody's got Lyft and Uber and things of that nature,
- 42:48Speaker 5: so there's there's just so many options out there.
- 42:50Speaker 4: Yeah, if you plan on going out this evening, go
- 42:52Speaker 4: ahead and download your Uber app. Go ahead and download lyfts,
- 42:54Speaker 4: set up your accounts, get the app ready, and if
- 42:57Speaker 4: you feel like you've had too much this evening, call
- 42:59Speaker 4: that Uber.
- 42:59Speaker 5: To And sometimes there will be those people that it
- 43:03Speaker 5: sneaks up on you. You're to kind of go I
- 43:04Speaker 5: thought it was okay, but I'm not. Now, don't take
- 43:07Speaker 5: the chance. I mean, if you have a question, even
- 43:09Speaker 5: if you don't, just just simply don't take the chance.
- 43:10Speaker 5: And it puts if you go out to a bar
- 43:13Speaker 5: type setting or some sort of a party, We've seen
- 43:16Speaker 5: cases sometimes when even even the people that are serving
- 43:19Speaker 5: them could be charged. So you know, just the bottom
- 43:21Speaker 5: line is just just be safe or just stay home.
- 43:23Speaker 3: And you could also do that as well.
- 43:25Speaker 4: Yes, say it home is definitely the safest idea, but
- 43:28Speaker 4: just know your limits. You know, know how much you
- 43:30Speaker 4: can have and when you feel like you're hitting that stop.
- 43:33Speaker 4: Sober up for a while before you go out and drive.
- 43:35Speaker 5: All right, Stars Jeremy Burns, Kennaugh County Sheriff's Apartment. Be
- 43:38Speaker 5: careful out there yourself, and also on that situation where
- 43:41Speaker 5: the roads will kind of slick up on seventy seven

- 43:43Speaker 3: Appreciate you being here. Thanks so much for having me.
- 43:45Speaker 5: It's a nine p fifty. We'll take a break and

- 45:58Speaker 5: fifty eight fifty eight Tony the Tailored text three zero
- 46:00Speaker 5: four nine three five five zero zero AA. We do
- 46:02Speaker 5: have a couple of texts I want to get to,
- 46:04Speaker 5: and there were a couple actually that came in.
- 46:07Speaker 3: One of these.
- 46:08Speaker 5: Sometimes I think people get the text lines mixed up.
- 46:10Speaker 5: We have two different text lines for this show and
- 46:12Speaker 5: Metro News Midday. This text line Curtisy with Tony the
- 46:15Speaker 5: Taylor's three zero four nine three five five zero zero eight,
- 46:18Speaker 5: So just keep that in mind. Different text line though
- 46:21Speaker 5: available for the Metro News Midday show. So sometimes texts
- 46:24Speaker 5: come to this show and I don't get them because
- 46:26Speaker 5: they were meant for the other show based on the time.
- 46:28Speaker 5: But we were talking on Metro News Midday the other
- 46:30Speaker 5: day had Dave Wilson on, who actually interviewed the first
- 46:35Speaker 5: disc jockey in America to ever play John Denver's Country
- 46:39Speaker 5: Roads and it was a WMOV radio in Ravenswood and
- 46:43Speaker 5: he kind of broke some rules this guy did to
- 46:45Speaker 5: put this into It was a great story. If you
- 46:47Speaker 5: haven't heard it, go back and listen to podcast version
- 46:49Speaker 5: of that that interview that Dave did.
- 46:51Speaker 3: But somebody texted in about that.
- 46:53Speaker 5: So twenty years ago, my college age son was in
- 46:56Speaker 5: South Korea for student conference. He was at a local
- 46:58Speaker 5: bar wearing a w sweatshirt. When the local musicians from
- 47:02Speaker 5: South Korea learned it was his birthday and saw a sweatshirt,
- 47:05Speaker 5: they started playing Country Roads and everyone started singing and
- 47:09Speaker 5: said it was great. It's one of those songs that
- 47:11Speaker 5: just become a universal favorite. I mean you to hear
- 47:15Speaker 5: Country Roads people that have absolutely no ties, like South
- 47:18Speaker 5: Korea for example, to West Virginia, people love the song.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Tex says.
- 47:23Speaker 5: Going back to the election, the twenty twenty sixth primary
- 47:26Speaker 5: will be near record low participation levels. The close primary
- 47:29Speaker 5: thing will not be as pronounced as some may believe,
- 47:31Speaker 5: merely because the turnout will be incredibly low.
- 47:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to be a very low turnouts.
- 47:35Speaker 5: The text was absolutely right about that, and it traditionally
- 47:38Speaker 5: in West Virginia is if there's not a presidential race,
- 47:41Speaker 5: and this is midterm, so no presidential race.
- 47:45Speaker 7: Uh.
- 47:48Speaker 5: On the squirrels, Texas, there used to be so many wonderful,
- 47:50Speaker 5: happy squirrels, not the past year.
- 47:53Speaker 3: Sad the governor. But now I'm not reading that important.
- 47:58Speaker 5: Texays, Uh, Dave, how about TJ's commentary this morning? He
- 48:03Speaker 5: sounded like a holier than now physical puritan who lacked
- 48:06Speaker 5: empathy and supports the use of government as a punitive
- 48:09Speaker 5: tool to use against its own citizens. Good thing, No
- 48:12Speaker 5: one in government has used debt relief protections from overborrowing
- 48:15Speaker 5: or being unable or unwilling to pay debt. Oh wait,
- 48:18Speaker 5: our president is one's Texter. Tex says if only Morrissey
- 48:24Speaker 5: was as worried about our guardsmen in DC as he
- 48:27Speaker 5: was about the squirrels.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Again, if you're wondering, why in the heck.
- 48:30Speaker 5: Are they talking about squirrels, well, the story the governor
- 48:32Speaker 5: on X last night did a Uh. There had been
- 48:35Speaker 5: all these rumors going around about a giant squirrel extermination
- 48:39Speaker 5: one of the capital. Steven's looked into it, Brad's looked
- 48:41Speaker 5: into it, Amelia's looked into it. Nobody's been able to
- 48:44Speaker 5: find out anything on this, and the governor took to
- 48:46Speaker 5: X last night to put a comment out about it,
- 48:49Speaker 5: demanding that another news organization or asking I guess that
- 48:52Speaker 5: another news organization address it.
- 48:54Speaker 3: And uh and so that's that's.
- 48:57Speaker 5: Where where do they get the facts and whatever? There
- 48:58Speaker 5: doesn't seem to be anything the stories bottom line coming
- 49:01Speaker 5: up later today. I Metro News Midday with thirteen News
- 49:03Speaker 5: and Tonight Live anchor Manda Baron and me It's Wednesday,
- 49:06Speaker 5: which means another wonderful West Virginian will be honored.
- 49:09Speaker 3: Delicate.
- 49:09Speaker 5: Clay Riley is going to join us on the show today,
- 49:12Speaker 5: you know, and we hear so much about data centers
- 49:16Speaker 5: and so much of it's negative, but not everyone is
- 49:20Speaker 5: against them, and Delegate Riley was one of those.
- 49:22Speaker 3: Had a conversation with him last night.
- 49:25Speaker 5: This has been one that's been one percent on board
- 49:28Speaker 5: with data centers and introduced legislation you know.
- 49:32Speaker 3: About it.
- 49:32Speaker 5: So Delegate Riley is going to join us during the
- 49:35Speaker 5: two o'clock hour on the show today. Plus we are
- 49:37Speaker 5: going to spend some more time talking about student loans,
- 49:42Speaker 5: and again TJ.
- 49:43Speaker 3: Meadows is going.
- 49:44Speaker 5: To join TJ who may be the worst vacationer ever
- 49:47Speaker 5: because he's on vacation, but he's joined us twice on.
- 49:50Speaker 3: The show to this week, so he's going to join
- 49:52Speaker 3: us quickly.
- 49:53Speaker 5: Chris Lawrence will have the news too, Meteoriologist Show Fitzwater
- 49:56Speaker 5: will stop buy and of course Open Line West Virginia
- 49:58Speaker 5: Metro News Midday powered by Selango law with thirteen News
- 50:01Speaker 5: in tonight Live anchor Manda Baron and me coming up
- 50:04Speaker 5: at noon today. I had a text here to the
- 50:06Speaker 5: show and I want to address just real quick, and
- 50:07Speaker 5: it said, continued Prayer's Dave, if you were listening to
- 50:10Speaker 5: the Metro News Midday show yesterday, and I'm a person
- 50:12Speaker 5: that kind of lives my life out in the open.
- 50:15Speaker 5: I talked about this on Metro News Midday yesterday, but
- 50:18Speaker 5: just in case you may have missed it, not trying
- 50:20Speaker 5: to get sympathy or anything like that, just throwing it
- 50:23Speaker 5: out there. I've I got a couple of health issues.
- 50:27Speaker 5: I'm not planning on checking out anytime soon, but I
- 50:29Speaker 5: did how to check up with the doctor and they
- 50:32Speaker 5: were concerned about my my PSA levels, and so I
- 50:37Speaker 5: kind of, you know, didn't do what I should as
- 50:39Speaker 5: far as a follow up appointment, and I went back
- 50:41Speaker 5: for a check and they said, well, guess what, They've
- 50:42Speaker 5: gone up even more.
- 50:44Speaker 3: So I've started this series of you know.
- 50:46Speaker 5: Trying to get it, you know, checked out about a
- 50:50Speaker 5: pretty high percentage rate that it probably is is cancer.
- 50:54Speaker 5: And I'm okay with that because just got to start
- 50:56Speaker 5: the treatment or whatever the treatment is.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Now.
- 50:58Speaker 5: I go in next Thursday and I will not be
- 51:01Speaker 5: on either show. Next Thursday. I will go in for
- 51:03Speaker 5: a for a BIOPSYE and we'll kind of see where
- 51:06Speaker 5: we are from there.
- 51:08Speaker 3: But I appreciate I I put it on.
- 51:10Speaker 5: So I mean it's social media official, as the kids
- 51:13Speaker 5: would say on a couple of times, and did a
- 51:16Speaker 5: post about it Monday. They got a lot of phone
- 51:17Speaker 5: calls and texts and things of that nature and people
- 51:20Speaker 5: well wishers.
- 51:21Speaker 3: And bottom line is is that it's if it is,
- 51:24Speaker 3: it's very treatable.
- 51:25Speaker 5: It's very and some I've done a lot of research,
- 51:28Speaker 5: talking to various people, talking to my medical professionals.
- 51:31Speaker 3: In some cases they don't do anything at all.
- 51:33Speaker 5: They just monitor it. Other cases they there may be
- 51:37Speaker 5: surgery or radiation, or there may be they're doing this
- 51:40Speaker 5: thing with seeds now which I don't even want to
- 51:42Speaker 5: go there the ability to grow cabbage in places that
- 51:46Speaker 5: I don't want to grow it. But anyway, so may
- 51:49Speaker 5: look into that, may not look into anything at all,
- 51:52Speaker 5: but the but the bottom line is is I'm only
- 51:54Speaker 5: The only reason I even put it on the air
- 51:56Speaker 5: and on social media to begin with was to tell
- 52:00Speaker 5: people that you got to take care of yourself. And
- 52:02Speaker 5: I have been one that has been very, very guilty
- 52:04Speaker 5: of not doing as much.
- 52:05Speaker 3: So I Millie Snyder would be proud.
- 52:08Speaker 5: I've still standaluz a little bit more, but I've lost
- 52:11Speaker 5: about thirty pounds over the last six to eight months
- 52:15Speaker 5: and working on it. As the late great Chris Ria
- 52:18Speaker 5: would say, And those of you that are obscure music
- 52:21Speaker 5: fans know who Chris Raya.
- 52:22Speaker 3: Is working on it. We got this all right.
- 52:25Speaker 5: No local show tomorrow or Friday. I'll be back on Monday.
