  Speaker 1: opens his eyes. What? It's morning. That's unfortunate. You laugh.

  Speaker 1: Come on, we might have another match today. I'm almost

  Speaker 1: certain we do. That seems to wake him up. Magnus

  Speaker 1: stretches his back upward like a cat. before jumping into

  Speaker 1: the air and floating beside you. Another match? Well, good.

  Speaker 1: I barely got to do anything last time. You defeated

  Speaker 1: two creatures. Exactly. Barely anything. You get dressed and head downstairs.

  Speaker 1: As usual, the first stop is breakfast. At this point,

  Speaker 1: you've learned that one of the best things about traveling

  Speaker 1: around the Galactic Card Federation is that apparently Continental Hotel

  Speaker 1: breakfast exists everywhere. You grab a whole bunch of your

  Speaker 1: between bites. Quarter-finals, huh? Hopefully. Hopefully? Well, we haven't checked yet. Oh,

  Speaker 1: a little faster. Once you're done, you and Magnus walk

  Speaker 1: towards one of the tournament computers. You scan your identification card.

  Speaker 1: The screen flashes. Competitor Identified. Another message appears. Next match,

  Speaker 1: quarterfinal round. Oh, you say? There it is. Magnus looks

  Speaker 1: over your shoulder. Obviously. The screen changes again. Opponent, Donovan. Huh?

  Speaker 1: You tap the profile option. After the last match against McKenna,

  Speaker 1: You now know that these computers can give you at
• 6:59
  Speaker 1: least some information about your opponents. The screen loads for

  Speaker 1: a few seconds, then not much appears. There's a picture

  Speaker 1: of Donovan standing beside what looks like some sort of

  Speaker 1: alien animal preserve. Underneath is a short description. Apparently, Donovan's

  Speaker 1: known for traveling throughout the Galactic Card Federation and collecting

  Speaker 1: unusual and exotic creatures. And that's about it. No list

  Speaker 1: of powers? You ask? Competitor card information is restricted. Of course.

  Speaker 1: Magnus floats closer. Exotic animals? Doesn't sound too bad. You
• 7:48
  Speaker 1: said that about cute animals the other day. That was different.

  Speaker 1: You say that every time. Magnus crosses his arms. Well,
• 7:59
  Speaker 1: whatever he has, they're not gonna be a match for me.

  Speaker 1: You leave the computer and head toward the front doors

  Speaker 1: of the hotel. But as soon as the doors open,

  Speaker 1: you're met with something you weren't really expecting. People. A

  Speaker 1: lot of People. There are alien reporters holding microphones, people
• 8:25
  Speaker 1: taking pictures, a bunch of kids standing behind some sort
• 8:29
  Speaker 1: of temporary barrier. And as soon as they see you,
• 8:34
  Speaker 1: they start cheering. Whoa, you say. Magnus looks around and
• 8:41
  Speaker 1: then he smiles. Finally. Finally what? What? People are beginning
• 8:48
  Speaker 1: to recognize the real star of this tournament. Several people
• 8:54
  Speaker 1: point towards Magnus. Magnus! It's Magnus! Look, that's the dragon!

  Speaker 1: Magnus puffs out his chest. You see? You wave toward

  Speaker 1: the crowd. A whole bunch of cameras flash. Magnus does
• 9:13
  Speaker 1: some sort of dramatic spin in the air. Oh, man.

  Speaker 1: You activate your magic wing card. Two huge glowing wings
• 9:24
  Speaker 1: appear from your back and you allow them to help
• 9:27
  Speaker 1: you float into the air. Magnus flies up beside you
• 9:33
  Speaker 1: and the crowd cheers even louder. See you after the match,

  Speaker 1: you yell. Then you blast into the sky. You and
• 9:44
  Speaker 1: Magnus fly above the city towards the enormous main battle arena.

  Speaker 1: You land outside the competitor entrance and release your wings. Luckily,
• 9:57
  Speaker 1: reporters and random people understand. aren't allowed at this entrance. Inside,

  Speaker 1: a kind-looking woman is sitting behind the registration desk. Good morning,
• 10:09
  Speaker 1: she says. Identification, please. You hand over your tournament card.

  Speaker 1: She scans it. Very good. Court of final match. Main arena.

  Speaker 1: You'll be using change room two today. Straight down that
• 10:28
  Speaker 1: hallway and second door on your right. Thanks. Good luck,

  Speaker 1: young one. You and Magnus walk down the hallway and
• 10:40
  Speaker 1: enter the change room. You sit on one of the benches.
• 10:45
  Speaker 1: Magnus floats back and forth. You nervous? he asks. A little. Well,
• 10:53
  Speaker 1: you shouldn't be because you have me. Yeah, I'm aware.

  Speaker 1: After a few minutes, the doors begin to open. The
• 11:04
  Speaker 1: roar of the crowd pours into the room. Well, you say,
• 11:10
  Speaker 1: standing up. Here we go. You walk out into the
• 11:15
  Speaker 1: massive stadium. And immediately the crowd erupts. Apparently making the
• 11:21
  Speaker 1: quarterfinals really has changed how people look at you. Floating cameras,
• 11:28
  Speaker 1: with little shields around them, circle around you. And the
• 11:32
  Speaker 1: announcer starts talking. And entering from Earth, one of the
• 11:38
  Speaker 1: surprise competitors of the tournament... That's right, folks, the first
• 11:44
  Speaker 1: Earth competitor we've seen make it this far in more
• 11:48
  Speaker 1: than a century. And, of course, accompanied by his now
• 11:54
  Speaker 1: famous dragon, Magnus. Magnus waves toward the cameras. Now famous,
• 12:02
  Speaker 1: he repeats. Don't let it go to your head. Oh,
• 12:06
  Speaker 1: it's too late for that. It is fully in my head.
• 12:11
  Speaker 1: On the other side of the arena, Donovan walks in.
• 12:16
  Speaker 1: He looks about your age and gives you a wave.
• 12:20
  Speaker 1: You wave back. The referee floats toward the center of
• 12:25
  Speaker 1: the stadium. Welcome, competitors. As a reminder, this is the
• 12:31
  Speaker 1: quarterfinal round. Each competitor may use up to three creature cards.
• 12:38
  Speaker 1: Only one creature may be active at a time. Defeating
• 12:43
  Speaker 1: one opposing creature earns one point. The first competitor to
• 12:48
  Speaker 1: earn two points wins the match and advances to the semifinals.

  Speaker 1: The crowd cheers. Now, if a creature wins a round,

  Speaker 1: voluntarily recalled. UNDERSTOOD. YOU NOD. DONOVAN NODS AS WELL. VERY GOOD.

  Speaker 1: TOWARD YOUR SIDE. A FORCE FIELD RISES AROUND YOU. ACROSS

  Speaker 1: THE ARENA, DONOVAN DOES THE SAME. COMPETITORS, SELECT YOUR FIRST CREATURE.

  Speaker 1: Donovan's card core glows. A blue card floats out and
• 13:40
  Speaker 1: then transforms into energy. For a second, all you can
• 13:45
  Speaker 1: see is lightning. But then the lightning forms itself into
• 13:51
  Speaker 1: the shape of a gigantic lion or gigantic alien thing
• 13:58
  Speaker 1: that looks like a lion. except you're not sure this
• 14:03
  Speaker 1: thing has a real body anymore. It's almost as if
• 14:07
  Speaker 1: the lion or lion-like thing has evolved so far into
• 14:12
  Speaker 1: its element that it's become electricity itself. Its mane is
• 14:18
  Speaker 1: made of flickering bolts. Its claws crackle against the ground.

  Speaker 1: Every time it moves, it disappears and reappears several feet
• 14:30
  Speaker 1: away with a sharp crack of thunder. Okay, you say?
• 14:37
  Speaker 1: That's pretty cool. Magnus steps forward. My turn. Actually, Magnus freezes.

  Speaker 1: What do you mean, actually? I think I'm going to
• 14:50
  Speaker 1: use Dominic. Magnus slowly turns around towards you. Dominic? Well,
• 14:58
  Speaker 1: he's good against fast creatures. I'm good against fast creatures.

  Speaker 1: You're good against everything, if I ask you. Exactly. You
• 15:10
  Speaker 1: activate your card core, a beam of blue light shoots
• 15:15
  Speaker 1: into the arena, and Dominic the Dingo appears. A gigantic,
• 15:21
  Speaker 1: deity-level dingo stands in front of you, covered in, well...
• 15:27
  Speaker 1: his very own rock armor. He stands there for about
• 15:33
  Speaker 1: half a second before, well, before he disappears. The crowd
• 15:39
  Speaker 1: murmurs and Magnus sighs. He always does that. Then, flashes
• 15:47
  Speaker 1: of light begin appearing around the stadium. One Dominic, five Dominics, ten, twenty...

  Speaker 1: Different versions of Dominic from different possible realities. One has
• 16:02
  Speaker 1: black stone armor. Another has silver fur. One has glowing

  Speaker 1: blue eyes. And another has a scar running down his face.

  Speaker 1: And for some reason, one of them has an eye patch.

  Speaker 1: The referee rises into the air. A blue force field
• 16:23
  Speaker 1: forms around him. Round one begins in three, two, one, go.

  Speaker 1: The electric lion disappears with a boom. One Dominic explodes
• 16:40
  Speaker 1: into energy. Another boom and another disappears. The lion, or
• 16:46
  Speaker 1: lion-like thing, becomes a streak of lightning shooting across the arena.

  Speaker 1: It tears through clone after clone. Dominic's time clones try
• 16:57
  Speaker 1: to attack, but the lion is unbelievably fast. It becomes electricity,

  Speaker 1: streaks through them, and reforms somewhere else before they can
• 17:10
  Speaker 1: even respond. Before you know it, five clones are gone. Then,
• 17:17
  Speaker 1: another five. Whoa, you say? But somewhere in the arena...

  Speaker 1: you can still sense the real Dominic. Invisible. Watching. Probably, well,
• 17:33
  Speaker 1: hanging out at an increased rate of existence. From his perspective,
• 17:40
  Speaker 1: everything slows down. The lightning lion is still incredibly fast,
• 17:46
  Speaker 1: but Dominic can see it. He watches every turn, every strike.
• 17:53
  Speaker 1: Every pattern. And then, Dominic begins making a sound. It's
• 18:01
  Speaker 1: barely noticeable at first. A low, humming sound. The remaining
• 18:07
  Speaker 1: clones begin doing the same. The sound spreads across the arena.
• 18:14
  Speaker 1: The lion continues blasting around. Another clone disappears. Then, another,
• 18:21
  Speaker 1: but Something starts to change. The lion pauses slightly longer
• 18:28
  Speaker 1: between attacks. Its lightning flickers. It shakes its head and
• 18:34
  Speaker 1: then it charges again. But Dominic is waiting. The lion
• 18:41
  Speaker 1: transforms into electricity and blasts through the air. From everyone
• 18:48
  Speaker 1: else's perspective, something incredible happens. The lightning simply stops. Dominic
• 18:57
  Speaker 1: suddenly appears with the electric lion caught between his jaws.

  Speaker 1: The lion reforms. Electricity blasts through Dominic's entire body. Dominic,
• 19:10
  Speaker 1: you yell. But Dominic digs his paws into the earth.
• 19:15
  Speaker 1: Stone rises around his legs. and the electricity moves down
• 19:21
  Speaker 1: through his body, through his paws, and directly into the ground.
• 19:29
  Speaker 1: The arena flashes. Dominic swings his head and throws the
• 19:35
  Speaker 1: lion down. Before it can move, Dominic opens his mouth.
• 19:42
  Speaker 1: A huge sound blast hits the creature. The lion struggles
• 19:47
  Speaker 1: to stand. It begins trying to turn into lightning again,
• 19:51
  Speaker 1: but seems to have trouble. Then, another Dominic appears. And another.

  Speaker 1: And another. Each one immediately unleashing the same sound. The
• 20:06
  Speaker 1: lion staggers. He continues to try to turn to electricity,
• 20:11
  Speaker 1: but slowly the electricity starts to fade, as if he
• 20:17
  Speaker 1: can't concentrate or make a connection with the element at all.
• 20:23
  Speaker 1: It takes one more step forward and then collapses entirely.
• 20:29
  Speaker 1: Its body transforms into blue energy and shoots back toward Donovan.
• 20:36
  Speaker 1: One point. Awarded, the ref says, and the crowd goes wild.
• 20:44
  Speaker 1: You raise your fist. Magnus folds his arms. Fine, that
• 20:50
  Speaker 1: was pretty good. The referee looks toward you. Would you
• 20:55
  Speaker 1: like to recall your creature? If he's been weakened, there's
• 21:00
  Speaker 1: a higher chance your opponent will get a point against you.
• 21:04
  Speaker 1: You look toward Dominic. His clones were largely destroyed, but
• 21:10
  Speaker 1: he seems perfectly fine. Now, I think Dominic can stay.

  Speaker 1: Magnus looks at you. Of course he does. Donovan smiles. Alright,
• 21:26
  Speaker 1: let's see how he handles this one. His card core
• 21:31
  Speaker 1: glows again. Another card appears, transforms into energy. and reforms into...

  Speaker 1: a gigantic frog. A brightly colored poison dart frog, to
• 21:46
  Speaker 1: be exact, except it's wearing a karate gi for some reason.

  Speaker 1: An orange one. You stare at it. Why is it
• 21:56
  Speaker 1: wearing a gi? Magnus shrugs. Why does Dominic have an
• 22:01
  Speaker 1: eyepatch clone? I mean, honestly, in some other reality... Some
• 22:07
  Speaker 1: kid decided to put a patch on his broken eye
• 22:10
  Speaker 1: or something? Eh, good point. The frog reaches behind its
• 22:16
  Speaker 1: back and pulls out what looks like a long, hollow straw.
• 22:22
  Speaker 1: The referee raises his hand. Round two begins now. The
• 22:29
  Speaker 1: frog jumps, not just a little jump either. It launches
• 22:34
  Speaker 1: itself 30 feet into the air, flips three times, and
• 22:39
  Speaker 1: blows through the straw. A tiny dart fires out. One
• 22:46
  Speaker 1: Dominic dodges. The dart curves. What? It spins around in
• 22:52
  Speaker 1: the air and hits the clone directly in the neck.
• 22:56
  Speaker 1: The clone falls asleep instantly. Another dart fires, then another,
• 23:04
  Speaker 1: then ten more. Dominic's clones begin dodging. The frog bounces
• 23:11
  Speaker 1: from wall to wall with ridiculous martial arts precision. It
• 23:16
  Speaker 1: kicks off the ground, flips backwards, fires three darts in midair.
• 23:22
  Speaker 1: But as if the frog also has some sort of
• 23:26
  Speaker 1: telekinetic powers... The darts curve toward their targets. One clone
• 23:33
  Speaker 1: dodges left, but the dart follows. Another jumps and the
• 23:39
  Speaker 1: dart rises up. One after another, Dominic's fall asleep. The
• 23:46
  Speaker 1: real Dominic disappears again. Soon, only a handful of clones remain.
• 23:54
  Speaker 1: The frog lands in the center of the arena. It
• 23:58
  Speaker 1: blows another stream of darts into the air, but this
• 24:02
  Speaker 1: time the darts stop. Dozens of them just float around
• 24:08
  Speaker 1: the frog, all pointing outward. That's clever, you say. The
• 24:16
  Speaker 1: frog is basically daring Dominic to approach. Suddenly, Dominic appears
• 24:23
  Speaker 1: behind it. He unleashes a powerful sound blast. The frog turns,
• 24:30
  Speaker 1: and every floating dart fires. Dominic tries to dodge, but
• 24:36
  Speaker 1: one hits him. Then another, then three more. Dominic falls
• 24:43
  Speaker 1: to the ground. His eyes close, and he immediately starts snoring.
• 24:51
  Speaker 1: The crowd explodes. Dominic, you yell. The frog relaxes. Donovan
• 24:59
  Speaker 1: raises his hands. And for just a second, you think
• 25:04
  Speaker 1: the match is tied. Then... Chomp! A gigantic set of
• 25:10
  Speaker 1: dingo jaws closes around the frog. What? Donovan yells. Another
• 25:18
  Speaker 1: Dominic has appeared. The frog is thrown into the ground
• 25:23
  Speaker 1: before it can recover. The dingo moves so fast you
• 25:27
  Speaker 1: can barely see him. Slash, slash, slash. The frog spins
• 25:33
  Speaker 1: around trying to aim its blowpipe, but it's too slow.
• 25:38
  Speaker 1: Dominic knocks the thing out of the frog's hand and
• 25:42
  Speaker 1: then appears on the other side. A massive sound attack
• 25:48
  Speaker 1: blasts the frog directly. It stumbles and falls and... transforms
• 25:56
  Speaker 1: into energy the crowd goes absolutely wild you look toward
• 26:04
  Speaker 1: the sleeping dominic it begins to glow and then disappears
• 26:12
  Speaker 1: a clone you say magnus stares into the arena the
• 26:19
  Speaker 1: whole thing was a clown The real Dominic stands alone
• 26:25
  Speaker 1: in the center. The referee raises both hands. Second point awarded.
• 26:33
  Speaker 1: Match complete. Winner advances to the semifinals. The crowd cheers
• 26:42
  Speaker 1: even louder. Dominic won the whole thing by himself, you say?
• 26:48
  Speaker 1: Magnus looks offended. Yeah, I noticed. GLORY HOG. YOU ACTIVATE
• 26:57
  Speaker 1: YOUR CARD CORE. THE REMAINING AND MOSTLY SLEEPING TIME CLONES VANISH.

  Speaker 1: DOMINIC BEGINS GLOWING BLUE AND SHOOTS BACK INTO YOUR CARD CORE.

  Speaker 1: YOU WAVE TOWARD DONOVAN. HE WALKS OVER AND SHAKES YOUR HAND.

  Speaker 1: GOOD MATCH. YEAH, YOUR FROG ALMOST HAD ME THERE. ALMOST.

  Speaker 1: Or at least your creature made it look like that.

  Speaker 1: You head back toward the change room. Magnus follows beside you, quietly.
