- Robin Axline: And with that being said, I wanted to move on to petty battles. And did you bring a story today, Laura? For the Wha Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: Brilliant. I love it. I think yours definitely. Tita Lors: I think yours is gonna be funny and fun. I think you're gonna like it. Yeah, did you go to your class reunion? Robin Axline: Did you Tita Lors: I'm I love my fri I love my friends so much. But I was so annoyed also. I wasn't gonna go to my cla my tenure class reunion. I wasn't going. I didn't really have a lot of friends at school and like I knew people but it just it was whatever. and I had good friends, but it was like a handful. And so like what's the point of me going? And like, who am I gonna talk to? What there's no if if you guys aren't gonna be there Why would I want to be there? So we collectively agreed, okay, none of us are going. And then the day of my friends like, Buy a ticket, we're going. I'm picking you up. Let's go. like son of cracker. This is so expensive. We're just gonna be sh like stuck on a boat with all of these people like, ugh, really so lame. Anyways, we go and like we show up with and she's there with her husband who I really like so it's great. But it's just appetizers. She's vegetarian. She can't eat anything and she ends up getting drunk, like really early because she's got nothing in her stomach. my god, I love her so much. She's so funny. She's such a like anyways, like And then I end up doing what I did in high school where I basically just walk around by myself and not talk to anybody and like the few people that I did know I like occasionally said hi to or whatever and then there ended up being drama too. I was like, What is happening? Why is this happening to me? Like somebody Okay, so sorry people, this is just tangent time. I'm my I'm telling you, my brain is so off. Anyways, so we go to like it's on a boat and it was supposed to just be a few hours long. Whatever, and I go and I see a few people that I recognize. Not we're not like super close or anything, but Hello, yadda, and then I'm I'm going to get like some appetizers and there's somebody that I don't even recognize. I don't even know this person. And the the whole like, yeah, what's your name? What do you do now? Cool, awesome, whatever. And it was the most basic nothing conversation. And this person who's like friends with my friends, I guess we were friends, was like trying to get in the conversation. I was like, It's it's cool, it's whatever, right? And then I don't know how, but sh they ended up saying like You guys really you guys would be such a cute couple and I and me and this other person just look at each other and we're like weird thing to say and then we just walk in opposite directions because there's no interest there. We don't care. Like we're just having this whatever conversation to have a conversation 'cause we happen to be in the same space together. And then that's it. And then later on somebody's like, What did you do? And we're like, the what the what? What do you mean, what did I do? I did I've literally been here by myself. My friends over there, like chatting it up with all of these people that she knew and I'm just like, All right, well I guess I'm just gonna sit over here by myself again. and I'm now being attacked 'cause I apparently did something and then later on I found out that this chick who was like, you guys would make such a good couple goes is telling people like that I did something. She's or just something like, just Laura Getting all the guys like she normally does. And I was like, first of all, thank you. I didn't know you thought about me like that. But second of all, what guys? We didn't have the same type in high school. I never had a boyfriend technically speak. Okay, I did. Like I had like technically speaking, two boyfriends in high school, but they were not her type and she didn't even know who they were. And if anybody liked me in high school, I didn't know. No one ever said anything to me. I didn't even ever think that anybody liked me in high school. I barely had like a group of friends. So what are you even talking about? And I'm being attacked for doing something I've always done. And I'm like, what is happening? Why am I here? my gosh. So yeah, I did not go to my twenty year reunion because I did not want this to happen again. Yeah, exactly. Just craziness. And it always just ends up being so basic. For like a relatively wealthy school area that I went to, like you'd think that it would be a lot nicer. Like I've seen a lot of people have really, really nice reunions. The Bacle which ended up like from start to finish of this whole evening. I was like, This is crazy. It's literally high school all over again and I'm stuck on a boat and I can't leave. Robin Axline: That would man, that would man. I couldn't mm. Yeah. Tita Lors: Yeah. Any Who's ours? Robin Axline: It just I won like it it just makes you wonder like what kind of narrative did this chick have about you all these years or something, like that you always do or something like what? Tita Lors: This This Exactly this Yeah Robin Axline: It's just mind boggling. Tita Lors: Exactly Everyone that I ever liked in high school did not like me back Like I had crushes in high school Yeah good Robin Axline: Man, I had an experience like yeah. I mean s yeah, same. I I just had this one experience though where it was what you were saying about how people like don't express that sometimes and it was like after high school, not one but two different dudes like reached out to me. One left me a voicemail and I never called him back, and the other one like wrote me a MySpace message. Even friends on there, and both expressed that they always what like had some feeling, so felt some type of way. And I'm like, no, that's not how it works. I'm not even playing, like, I'm not gonna write you back, I'm not gonna call you back. Like, what is happening? No. It's so weird. High Tita Lors: Yeah. Yeah. No. Robin Axline: school stuff is weird. Tita Lors: It is. It's so weird. And like Yeah. And th and then there was like one person in high school who thought that I liked it. Okay, this is the funniest story. So sorry. Tangent Tangent die. We're talking about high school now. So Like get a friend to walk around with. So this person I would go and walk around with them. And I didn't realize that they were following this one guy that she that they had a crush on. And like it got to a point where we just ended up in this weird intersection where we were facing this person and he turned and looked and she did. So I'm standing there alone in a hallway and he's looking at me and I'm like, Bye! Like, I don't know what just happened or why I'm by myself. and then later on I found out that he told people that I was stalking him. I was like, first of all, I don't like you like that. I barely like you as a regular person based on what I know about you or what I've been told about you. So no, I definitely don't have a crush on you. The person I like goes to a different school. Robin Axline: That should be a whole well we'll have more episodes of that kind of stuff. If you're interested listeners, let us know if you want more high school content. And if you have high school content, tell us too. Tita Lors: When I ask her not to, she tells me to get over it. If another coworker comes to speak to me, she answers for me and over me. She also swears at her computer, verbally responding to emails she doesn't like, talks over her breath while reading her work constantly. Okay. All right. Update. apologies for the delay. It was some time it was some I realized he thought I was bluffing. I said repeatedly that I have a job offer and I was accepting it, and I would do my due diligence not to screw over my coworker and VP of sales to cover the project so we don't mess up the multi-million dollar ode order. The oder my god, the owner just kind of shrugged because he would happily cut off his nose to spite his face. I love that saying. have to pay me out for an additional week by law for letting me go before I officially leave. I don't care. I'd like a break before the new job starts and I'll be paid eighty percent more anyways when it does. Wow. like the the colon with an S face. Yeah. Robin Axline: yeah, yeah. Totally. Hmm. That was a good like follow up too because I kind of wondered like, well what's gonna happen? So Tita Lors: Yeah, the additional pay. Mm-hmm. And they're getting eighty percent more when they leave. Hell yeah. Fire me. Go ahead. Yeah, you're Robin Axline: Right. Yeah, go nuts. Tita Lors: st like and it sounds like wherever they live, they're still gonna have to pay you anyways. So now you don't have to work. You get a break. Bomb. I know. Okay. Your turn Robin Axline: okay. All right. I was just gonna say real quick, like, with the gal that gave t TMI all the time. Tita Lors: Ha ha ha. Robin Axline: you know like that's her angle with that job 'cause she's like, I'm keeping it like me, I know all this stuff, and you can't get rid of me and I can be the worst version of myself. Right. T yeah, no, I totally get that. Yeah, I think you're right on that. People just get displa or complacent, I guess. Tita Lors: yeah yeah. I know. If you can or if you're like me and you're like a one person my gosh, my phone just told me I have high stress, so this story stressed me out. Robin Axline: no. Tita Lors: So funny. yeah, Robin Axline: High stress. Tita Lors: like respect your employees. unless you're just a one woman band, hello, and then like you're doing everything by yourself. Maybe you should respect yourself more. I should really get better at that, but whatever. Robin Axline: Alright. Yes, so once again, I have no idea who you are at class reunion. This is posted nine months ago by Faster Faster 2000. and this is under petty revenge also. My high school class had our 25th reunion over Labor Day weekend. We hadn't managed to put together a reunion since our sparsely attended five year. We went to a small college prep school. Our class had 72 kids where everybody knew each other, and because it was small, you could bounce between activities, so there wasn't a lot of clicks. High school was mostly fine for my best friend John, names changed. And I, except for one guy named Tom. Mom, who wasn't so much a bully as much as just a general dick to the smarter kids in the class. He constantly made jokes at our expense and pranked us with things like creating a bunch of fake invites to a fake party at my parents' house, or starting a rumor that he had seen John kissing a girl who was a lesbian. John founded a company in his late 20s and had done very well for himself. He and to some extent myself have raised a lot of money for local charity over the years, and recently he spearheaded the construction of a STEM center to be jointly run by several area schools, including our high school. His name got put on a building. This has given him a pretty public profile and made him somewhat locally famous. Yes, his parents had some money, but he has far outpaced. Them. His company has a marketing assistant that has helped get his name in the news, including being featured by our high school alumni newsletters and social media. They also manage his social media accounts because he gave up a few years ago due to time and professionalism. All this has nothing to do with ego, he is an awesome guy, but knows that his company's profile and revenue has risen with slash because of his personal profile. Okay. Now Tom has since college always been kind of a flashy self-promoting grifter. Get rich quick guy. Because of social media, I know he first tried to be a white rapper slash DJ. boy. Tita Lors: Ha ha ha. Robin Axline: In the early 2000s. then has bounced from car sales to some real estate real estate investing thing that sounded like mortgage fraud. I'm in construction and RE, so I can recognize that crap. To Some PE sounding investment group and now has done some crypto bro thing going on. boy. Through the years he has heavily promoted himself on social media and even tried to do the whole pay me to teach you investment strategy thing. Great. Yeah. He even DM'd me several times with investment opportunities to which I never responded. Ugh yuck. Fast forward to last weekend. John hosted a part of the reunion at his house/slash barn. He has several acres. About 50 alumni plus spouses and probably 20 kids showed up. John and I, our spouses, and a few friends pretty much camped out on chairs on a side patio and mostly didn't bother to mingle. We were all drinking and catching up. Tita Lors: It's like a I've heard this before on another podcast, but I I love the way you're reading it. Good job. but like it is my god, what's it means something. Obviously it means something, but I'm trying remember h how to say it. Okay. So Quiet Han. political yeah. It's like it okay, the act of offering an overly enthusiastic, effusive, or excessively warm greeting. So it's just like Yeah, hi guy, blah blah blah or whatever. yeah, so like schmoozing, flattering, buttering up. Like the kind of thing that you would do if you were trying to get something out of someone. Yeah, it does, it totally does. Robin Axline: Sounds like good old Tom. Checks out. So he came over to us to Gladhand John. John stayed calm and exchanged general pleasantries, but quickly Tom launched into some BS. You know you have done well, but you could make a lot of money in crypto. Oof. John interrupted him with, I'm sorry. I didn't catch who you're here with. Is your wife one of our classmates? you could tell Tom was a bit taken back. No man, I'm Tom Blank. We were classmates. Don't you remember I used to Raz you? John scratched his head and said, Yeah, Raz, I'm heard that in a minute. Yeah, don't you rem boy. John scratched his head and said, Not really. I think I have a pretty good memory of our class, but I don't remember you at all. Then John got serious while giving a small wave to the event planner named Ashley nearby. Listen, I get approached all the time like this because of my business. I get it. But this is my home in a private event. Then looking at Ashley, hey, can you take a moment to verify the guest list? I'm not sure what's going on here, thanks. Ashley then addressed Tom while giving him a big fake smile. Right this way, sir, we just need to verify your ID against the guest list. I'm sorry. I hope you understand. Tom followed her off in a bit of a huff. John sat back down while giving me a wink, then said to the group, It's unfortunate, I have to be careful. Someone else piped up, Yeah, that was Tom, he was in our class. John kind of shrugged and said, Huh. Must not have interacted with him much, then changed the subject. Twenty or so minutes later, Tom returned with a classmate who had largely organized the weekend and had been friends with him in high school. She said, I hear you don't remember Tom. He was in our class all four years. Years he played on the football team. John again shrugged and said, I'm sorry, sometimes people just fail to leave an impression on me. I hope you enjoy my home and have a lovely weekend. At that time, he turned to his wife and said, Now, let's go check on the important people. Make sure the kids are having fun. If you miss this, the kids are the important people. Wait a minute. At this time he turned to his wife and said, Now let's go check on the important people. Make sure the kids are having fun. Punctuation people. so the kids are the important people. John texted me a few minutes later. That was fun. The end. Tita Lors: Yeah, I knew it was gonna be this one. It's such a good story. Robin Axline: huh. Tita Lors: I love it. Yeah, no, that's so I feel so happy for him because it's like you didn't raz him, he bullied him. Robin Axline: Yeah, exactly. Seriously. Like he forgot. Somebody this person says Tom forgot to invest in getting a decent personality. Ha Brilliant. Tita Lors: Yeah, that is such my god, so true. Yeah. I mean it'd be one thing if you were like, Hey man, you know, I'm I'm Tom. I used to ra I'm I was a shithead in high school. I'm so sorry. I you know, there are I apologize for for the way that I used to behave, blah, blah, blah, blah. beautiful home you have here. Thank you for inviting me. Like that's an entirely different conversation. That person has hopefully grown and like done some reflection about themselves and would no longer do those things to anybody else moving forward. But like there was no growth. There was no reflection. There was nothing. And then immediately from there you're gonna like go to this person that you bullied in high school and then try to like get them to give you money now that they're lo Yeah. Yeah, why do you think that's gonna work? That's exactly in that case Dululu was not the Sululu. Like it was just not cool. and and we're really close now. She's like one my best friends now, but back in high school I'm I'm actually really shocked that she still wants to be my friend every single time. I'm like, Thank you for seeing the best in me and not just seeing like her 'cause my god she's so embarrassing. We would never do that now. We'd never encourage that now, but like it was funny back then to me, but obviously it wasn't funny to And she like got so annoyed one time. She kicked me with like Doc Martins on, I think, or like Doc Martin type shoes. And I was like, ow And I did it less. But still, I was I totally deserved that. But she did kick me. I I didn't say anything to her because I totally deserved it. but yeah, she did say stop and I didn't. terrible shame shame disc disc. and I apologize to her all the time now. I'm like, that was not okay. I'm so sorry. I was a horrible teenager. I would never do that to you again. but yeah, like we were all teenagers, we all do stupid things. And the important part is to be able to reflect and be like, yeah, that was wrong and I'm sorry. Don't keep staying a shithead. Robin Axline: Yeah, I mean now, yeah. It's right. It just sounds like Tita Lors: Yeah. Robin Axline: yeah, he didn't evolve whatsoever. Tita Lors: Exactly. Like, I can just imagine if I thought that it was okay to still keep doing that to people now. And I still I do it to some of my close friends who are okay with it and that I have had like we just have that kind of a relationship and they think it's funny or whatever and we all just are like that. But to somebody who's said previously to me before, please don't do that, okay. Hands off, like we're done. Robin Axline: Yeah, that's so funny. Yeah. Yeah, I mean it's not like you're doing that. I mean, yeah. Anyways. Yeah. I remember, like, there was a friend of mine who sat in front of me in math class and sometimes we'd like compare answers. But I kind of like thought it was funny if I tapped her on the shoulder with my pencil. Sometimes like it really I think bothered like sometimes I would like, Hey, what did you get for this answer? And then sometimes I would just tap her on the shoulder just to be like funny. And then I started noticing like she wasn't s think she didn't think it was funny anymore. And I had to stop. But we had to have like a little powwow about it. Like she's just like, Yeah, I don't I don't like that anymore and I was just like, my gosh, I'm so sorry and I apologize. I don't know why I thought it was like hilarious at the time. I just like tapped the eraser, I'd be like Tita Lors: Yeah. 'Cause sometimes it's fun to be annoying. Robin Axline: Yeah. So that's my little high school story like that. Tita Lors: Yeah. Okay. Well, I hope everyone's enjoyed our tangents. We're gonna try get through the ratings. It has been. my goodness. Okay. boop boop boop. Okay, back to the ruined vacation. Okay. Trivial results. How trivial were the results? Yeah, or I'm I'm down to negotiate higher lower. Okay. Six point five that Robin Axline: I mean I was gonna say six, but Tita Lors: shit then. Let's do it! Okay. How spiteful is that? It's pretty malicious, like they know what they're doing. Yeah. I think it's natural consequences. I don't think it's an overreaction at all. You don't treat your employees well, you don't pay them well enough. You have shitty employees working all together and you're not like there's no HR to be like, Hey, don't do that. Well, I don't know if there was an HR or whatever but like nobody yeah, like it wasn't getting handled well. what did you think is gonna happen? This is an appropriate response to an inappropriate situation. Like this should not have been happening. So yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I'll do that. Okay. Class reunion. my god, this is so funny. so how trivial are the results? I mean pretty trivial, nothing happened. Robin Axline: Yeah, nothing happened. He just kind of Tita Lors: But he still got to enjoy the reunion. He still got to show up. He still pitched his pitch. He shot his shot. And then he got turned down. Yeah. So nothing bad happened. say low, like a two or a three. Robin Axline: Okay, here's the thing is I do think it was a little extreme to do that flex and be like, Ashley, let's check this guest list or something seems like kind of wild Yeah. Tita Lors: Love it so much that he did that. It was. Like you used to bully me and now I'm like, god, I can't even remember who you are. Can you just check this real quick? Robin Axline: Yeah. I don't know who she is. Tita Lors: Ugh. I would love to do that to somebody. Not that I can really think of anybody. I don't think I was really bullied ever. So there's not really anybody I could do that to. Yeah. Keep Do you think of anybody that you would want to flex hard on like that? You can? I can't, like, nobody ever really bullied me. I can't think of anyone. I know. It it yeah, Robin Axline: Nice. Tita Lors: I have to admit that it's really nice, but but it yeah. Robin Axline: yeah. So if I could get away with something like that and I felt like it was warranted then sure, I would do it too. Tita Lors: Yeah, 'cause you won't do it. You'll think it and I'll be like, nah, it's gonna happen. We're gonna make this happen. Ian, go get Yeah. Ian, get Ashley. hurry, hurry, hurry. Ashley Robin Axline: Actually, yes, so Tita Lors: Ha ha Robin Axline: yeah, that's great. Yes, so what was it spiteful or okay. I I mean it is spiteful. Yeah. I don't I especially don't think it's a overreaction per se because how he shot his shot. And how he and how he Tita Lors: Yeah, that was not necessary. Robin Axline: like played down how he bullied him but just said I razzed you a little bit. Tita Lors: Mm-hmm. Yeah. And how he like had to prove that no, you know me. Like, a better thing, honestly, would have been like, yeah, no, can you remind me some of the things you razzed me on? Robin Axline: That would be killer. I love your reaction to that. yeah. So I think it was it's I the I feel like it was pretty warranted, especially when he was trying to like do his sales pitch on him. He's like, you make a lot of money, but I could this Tita Lors: I my gosh, yeah. As if he as if he was the one who made more than him. As if he had more accomplishments, as if he had more to offer. Like I could help you improve. Bitch, how? You haven't even maintained Robin Axline: Yeah, tell me Tita Lors: a job. Robin Axline: That's crazy. Yeah. So I think I'm so ready. Drum roll, please. Tita Lors: my gosh! For the first time ever in petty and unbothered history, we have a tie. but we did both win this time. Yay Us. We're both great and amazing, and we totally deserve this. okay. Well, anything else? Robin Axline: Yeah, Laura's got the clap axe Yeah. Yes, here for it. man. Well continue to find us on all the places that you can get your podcasts. Like, subscribe, tell all your buddies, We can't wait to hear it. So in until next time. Stay petty. And stay unbothered unless somebody emails you per my last message. All right. Bye. Tita Lors: We both did it.
