- 0:12- Welcome
- 0:15- to the divine five one five podcast. Here
- 0:16- is today's prayer.
- 0:23- Hello, and welcome to daily prayers with Valerie
- 0:27- Rocha.
- 0:28- Today's prayer focus is overcoming unmet expectations.
- 0:32- Scripture text comes from Psalms thirty four eighteen
- 0:35- and says the Lord is close to the
- 0:36- brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in
- 0:39- spirit.
- 0:42- Well, you know, some disappointment comes from losing
- 0:45- something,
- 0:47- and it might end up being very grievous
- 0:50- in the process.
- 0:53- And yet other disappointment comes from never receiving
- 0:56- what we were hoping for.
- 1:00- The opportunity didn't happen or maybe it was
- 1:03- a relationship that didn't become what we thought
- 1:05- it would.
- 1:08- The prayer wasn't answered the way we expected.
- 1:13- And sometimes the hardest disappointment is disappointment we
- 1:17- don't feel comfortable admitting to God.
- 1:23- You know, we may believe faith means we
- 1:26- shouldn't feel disappointed,
- 1:28- but that's not actually
- 1:30- valid or realistic.
- 1:32- Scripture does tell us that man is born
- 1:34- of a woman and full of trouble,
- 1:37- so disappointment
- 1:38- is
- 1:39- part of the bargain even though we didn't
- 1:41- necessarily
- 1:42- sign up for it.
- 1:45- So instead of processing it, we bury it.
- 1:49- But buried disappointment doesn't disappear.
- 1:53- It can quietly become bitterness,
- 1:57- distance, or distrust.
- 2:02- God isn't threatened by your disappointment.
- 2:05- I often say that there's not one thing
- 2:08- that we go through that God does not
- 2:10- know about
- 2:11- and that he always welcomes the conversation.
- 2:15- The biggest challenge
- 2:17- is that we
- 2:19- tell ourselves all kinds of fallacies
- 2:23- that keep us from going to him.
- 2:27- But
- 2:28- the power
- 2:29- comes when you can tell him the truth
- 2:32- because he is truth,
- 2:34- and I've learned in various instances you cannot
- 2:37- lie or argue with the truth.
- 2:39- And that even tells us
- 2:41- that when we pursue the truth, he will
- 2:44- set us free.
- 2:47- So
- 2:50- because of it,
- 2:53- transparency
- 2:53- with ourselves and with God
- 2:56- isn't lacking.
- 2:59- In fact, it's quite the opposite.
- 3:01- It's relationship.
- 3:06- That being said, always remember that prayer gives
- 3:09- disappointment somewhere to go so it doesn't become
- 3:11- something you carry indefinitely.
- 3:17- Well, now that you've been encouraged,
- 3:20- let's pray.
- 3:23- Father God, you know where life hasn't turned
- 3:25- out the way we would have hoped.
- 3:29- So today, we bring you our disappointment,
- 3:33- whatever it is,
- 3:34- without pretending
- 3:36- because we cannot lie to you, we cannot
- 3:39- run from it, and we cannot hide because
- 3:41- you are true,
- 3:43- and you know and see everything.
- 3:47- Father, we ask that you heal what has
- 3:49- been broken,
- 3:50- protect our heart from bitterness,
- 3:52- and help us trust your goodness
- 3:54- even when we don't understand
- 3:57- the outcome.
- 3:58- And we will bless you in Jesus' name.
- 4:01- Amen.
- 4:04- What disappointment have you been reluctant to talk
- 4:07- to God about?
- 4:09- That's a good place to start
- 4:12- right there.
- 4:14- Inside the inner chamber, we create a space
- 4:17- for real prayer,
- 4:18- not perfect prayer,
- 4:21- with opportunities to bring prayer requests before a
- 4:23- community committed
- 4:25- to praying together.
- 4:28- And you can join free.

- 4:35- And until tomorrow, remember,
- 4:38- give God the disappointment
- 4:40- you've been trying to hide.
