- 0:54Thank you. Now, here are the host of The
- 0:58United, We scan podcast, Welcome back.
- 1:03We are officially an episode 20. You do have a special episode
- 1:08will be released in later in the week, that it was already
- 1:12recorded, but we wanted to welcome back night is a bit of a
- 1:16special night. Some of us members of the the
- 1:20podcast here, received our first fan mail, Unfortunately for us,
- 1:27it wasn't all Glitz. And Glam like most fan mail can
- 1:29be, it was a rather negative connotation to the people who
- 1:34give their free time to lift up the craft.
- 1:39We will not reveal who the fan mail came from or what it
- 1:43contained, even though we have the legal right to do.
- 1:46So you are all welcome to form your own opinions.
- 1:51As we've always said, it's carrier discretion, And while we
- 1:56like to discuss our craft and how each, and every one of you
- 2:00can help to make it a better together, some comments have
- 2:03been made and taken out of context, which in this day and
- 2:07age. We are now in, it is be
- 2:09expected. Unfortunately, for the people
- 2:12who do this podcast, it means we have to make this statement.
- 2:17What we have to make clear, is we do not condone nor tolerate
- 2:22any bullying harassing or intimidation in any form.
- 2:27We believe that. Not only, should we not be
- 2:29afraid in our workplace. We also should be safe on any
- 2:34platform or any location where we choose to be.
- 2:38No one should ever be afraid to speak their mind.
- 2:40Anywhere at any time, this is true no matter what level you
- 2:45are in any organization. And whether you are a
- 2:49dues-paying member or a non dues-paying, member, everyone
- 2:52should be treated with dignity fairness and respect.
- 2:58T', you all know, we have had a disclaimer at the beginning of
- 3:01this podcast and a written disclaimer on all our other
- 3:04social media locations to separate ourselves from the NRL
- 3:08CA and the USPS. Well, this is legally.
- 3:12All we have to do /, any social media policy, placed out by any
- 3:16organization. Some individuals may not realize
- 3:20that anything we say on this podcast is not to be considered
- 3:24not to be construed as actual Steward advice.
- 3:28Or advice on the policies and procedures of the USPS.
- 3:32We do not operate this podcast as stewards or representatives
- 3:36of the postal service or the NRL CA at no time.
- 3:40Should the NRL CA or the Postal Service ever.
- 3:43Believe that we are operating in that capacity.
- 3:47We are rural carriers speaking to rural carriers, Who deliver
- 3:52the mail day in and day out and have been doing.
- 3:55So for days weeks, months years, decades rural carriers who come
- 4:00into their office and work. Their route do their job to the
- 4:04best of their ability, and go home to their families, both
- 4:08dues-paying, and non dues-paying.
- 4:13While what we discuss on the podcast?
- 4:15Pertains to rural carriers out in the field.
- 4:17Our advice may not be the advice that a designated union
- 4:21representative would give, and you should do your own research
- 4:24into those items and speak to your local union representative
- 4:28as needed. We only do this podcast with the
- 4:31idea that we are your fellow carrier working, right alongside
- 4:35you. We are your Case-Mate, your
- 4:38fellow workroom carrier that you ask questions to and get answers
- 4:42from From, we talk to each other as equals fellow carriers, who
- 4:46care about each other. Legally speaking, we are not
- 4:52allowed to act as your union representative.
- 4:55Nor are we to give advice. As a union representative, it is
- 4:59against the steward rules. In every Union organization,
- 5:02we've researched codified in many of their constitutions.
- 5:07We also are not allowed to act any legal capacity, as none of
- 5:11us are bar certified attorneys. Although some do have attorneys
- 5:14on retainer to go to for proper legal advice when necessary, Why
- 5:20we are proud to be local stewards in our own individual
- 5:23capacity. Our union representative
- 5:25capacity only applies to those with whom.
- 5:28We are tasked with being the Union steward for the only
- 5:32people who are able to get full Union, advice to everyone in the
- 5:36nation, dues-paying or nons. Do paying is the national board.
- 5:42We also are unable to speak on behalf of the United States,
- 5:46Postal Service management while we may see bits and pieces and
- 5:49each of our offices. We do not know their thoughts
- 5:53ideas emotions or plans. Just like each and every one of
- 5:56you. Our goal for this podcast is to
- 6:01lift every working rule carrier up and to get them to join
- 6:06together. Not only discussing current
- 6:08issues facing each and every working rule carrier, but to
- 6:11help bring light to areas, not many even know about.
- 6:18There are many facets to be a rural carrier from being an arc
- 6:22are Capt F or regular that are buried in mountains of
- 6:26paperwork. We hope we can invigorate you to
- 6:30do your own research, into all this paperwork and find the
- 6:33answers. You're looking for, we do this
- 6:36in our own free time and without compensation, we don't need
- 6:39compensation as the reward for doing this knowing that each and
- 6:43every working rural carrier gets motivated to be more involved in
- 6:47their craft. We are attempting to make a
- 6:50concerted effort to bring rural carriers together to strengthen
- 6:54us inside and outside the union. The union is not a part of this
- 6:58podcast, nor do we consider anything.
- 7:00We say to be the view or opinion of the Union, never wanted to
- 7:04never needed to this podcast is intended to be a fun way for us
- 7:08to point carriers in the right place to look for answers.
- 7:11We are not the answer but just the voice to start our fans
- 7:15looking in the right direction. We are not here to make people
- 7:21feel anything but Pride for their craft and motivate them to
- 7:25step up and be involved. We want each and every one of
- 7:28you listeners to know, no matter what our goal is to get
- 7:32carriers, excited to be involved.
- 7:36Well, we may not get things right, or we may upset people
- 7:39that is not our intention whatsoever with this podcast.
- 7:42While we do not speak on behalf of the NRL CA we support our
- 7:46Union and its goals of protecting carriers, legal
- 7:49rights and constitutional rights, every rural carrier
- 7:53every Arc. Every RCA, every PTF, every
- 7:57regular, every Steward, and every Union officer whether
- 8:01dues-paying or nandu spading, everyone is our brother and
- 8:04sister in the craft, To our fan that sent us.
- 8:09The, the fan mail we welcome you to join us on the podcast and
- 8:13discuss your thoughts with us. We are non-discriminatory and
- 8:17open to everyone. And every view, we thank you for
- 8:20your time to reach out to us and speak with us in a professional
- 8:25manner. If you wish to join us.
- 8:27One day for a podcast reach out to one of the posts through our
- 8:32social media platforms and we'll figure out a way to to bring you
- 8:36on as a special guest. The door is always open and
- 8:40we're always available in our off, time to everyone else.
- 8:45We are here for you, a fellow colleague to offer opinions, a
- 8:49listening ear to help through issues a shoulder to cry on.
- 8:53We do not discriminate, we do not keep things behind a
- 8:57curtain. We are all one group.
- 8:59One job, one craft together. A union is only as strong as its
- 9:04weakest member. That is the least.
- 9:06Informed member dues paying or non dues-paying, help make this
- 9:10Union Strong by becoming informed.
- 9:14So tonight we are going to we don't have a set discussion like
- 9:22we have in the past with Rex, where we've got a lot of
- 9:25comments questions that we have come in through, email private
- 9:31message. I will have a audio message that
- 9:35we received and so, we're going to go ahead and we're going to
- 9:38discuss and well over those This evening with everybody, just a
- 9:45reminder that as we answer these questions this is not considered
- 9:50don't want you to this is not Steward.
- 9:51Advice this is not advice from a Union steward, nor is this,
- 9:58we're not speaking for the union or the Postal Service.
- 10:04Yeah. They have their own avenues for
- 10:06disseminating information to everybody and you should consult
- 10:10your designated union representative for guidance or
- 10:14not to summon dating information or I'm sorry.
- 10:19Did I said that out loud? I'm sorry, it's okay.
- 10:22But no tonight, we're pretty much going to be addressing
- 10:26Everything that we have got just about everything.
- 10:29If we haven't addressed it or talk to you personally and to
- 10:35try and steer you in the correct direction.
- 10:38So basically, we have a lot of things up that we're just going
- 10:42to clarify and have a good time with you tonight.
- 10:46If you're going to take the first one, James, So the
- 10:52question is on the route coverage percentage, if I
- 10:56understand correctly the more active deliveries you have that
- 11:00aren't actually getting mail will cause the percentage to be
- 11:03lower. When the answer be to deactivate
- 11:06more boxes to get the percentage higher, then the question
- 11:09becomes how much of a part is the percentage playing in the
- 11:13total evaluation So the percentage of coverage only
- 11:26affects a few categories on the 42 41, M, and the 4241 a, and
- 11:33that's the ones that you, when you're looking at your 4241, M,
- 11:38it has the coverage Factor listed next to it.
- 11:41Those are the only categories that are affected by the
- 11:43coverage Factor. Everything else is playing value
- 11:49per the 60p 06:03, Can boxes only need to be placed in the
- 11:54edit book? After 90 days, putting them in
- 11:58there earlier than that is a waste of time because somebody
- 12:02could actually move in on the 89th day.
- 12:04I've had that happen to me. Also your Every Door Direct
- 12:09mails box holders and WSS cover. Affects your coverage factors as
- 12:14well as the count you get for mail pieces through your route.
- 12:18So if you put a box vacant, you're not getting that cover
- 12:23that extra boost of numbers with those full-coverage markers.
- 12:32All right. Another one comes up and says
- 12:34you stated that filing grievances are end of shift
- 12:36duties. They are not.
- 12:39I also read the Q&A and the NRL website and have included, the
- 12:43language the filling out. So what this actually means is
- 12:46having a step 1 discussion is not an end of shift Duty,
- 12:50obviously not always management, may not necessarily be available
- 12:54in to shift it, for whatever reason, but the filling out in
- 12:58the filing of the Grievances should be under the end of
- 13:01shift. if duties under the actual time, Yeah, your
- 13:05discussion with management should be on 8127 time or 1314 a
- 13:11Time Green Card time when you're having the discussion with them.
- 13:16So the question is I was telling my p.m. about anything, more
- 13:20than eight letters is considered a parcel.
- 13:22He said, he never heard of that. Where can I find?
- 13:25Where can I get that in writing to show him?
- 13:27He also said that we are to used or miscellaneous.
- 13:31For hold male, not unscanned, parcel.
- 13:34Is this. Okay to, what if we have hold
- 13:37mail that barely fits in the Box?
- 13:39What do we use unscanned? Parcel for.
- 13:42So, when, when the unscanned parcel first came out, they
- 13:48first said that it was only for non legible, barcodes, or for
- 13:54mail that didn't or Parcels. That did not have a barcode.
- 13:59Then they later amended and then they said door, miscellaneous
- 14:02was basically the only scenario they could come up with was for
- 14:07cold male, that would not fit in the mailbox that you were going
- 14:12to deliver to the door that did not have a scannable item with
- 14:18it. But now they have said at the at
- 14:22the, with the mini mail survey they came out and said that if
- 14:26you're taking out hold mail that has more than eight pieces.
- 14:29Whether that's a whether it's for, for business closed, like
- 14:35you have a business that doesn't want their mail.
- 14:38Do that wants their mail held on Saturdays and then deliver it on
- 14:41Sunday or vacation holds that if you have eight pieces of mail,
- 14:47that becomes an unscanned Soil. And if you deliver that to the
- 14:52door as unscanned, parcel then that is, that is your that your
- 14:59credit for delivering to the door, and you no longer need to
- 15:01use door miscellaneous. I think where this code into
- 15:05play because this was released shortly before the men email
- 15:08survey was in the past actual, the old-time male counts, when
- 15:13you had a hole that went back during that mail count.
- 15:17It was counted as a partial credit, right?
- 15:20And then wasn't there. I seem to remember, too that.
- 15:23If it was, if you were holding it before, if it was on hold
- 15:26before the count started, you got to count it as a parcel when
- 15:30you took it out, but if it started and ended during the
- 15:34mail account, you didn't is, if I remember that correctly or my
- 15:38off there. Yes, okay.
- 15:43Yeah, if you have 8, so if you, if you have a business that's
- 15:46closed on Saturday. Hmm.
- 15:48And this this came out, this was in the mini mail survey
- 15:51training. If you, if you have a business
- 15:54is closed on Saturday or vacation hold and you accumulate
- 15:59eight pieces of mail and that can be letters or flats.
- 16:03And that's all you have, then then you delete when you deliver
- 16:07it. You can deliver it as a
- 16:08unscanned parcel. And if you take if you take take
- 16:12it and like some of the older, some of the older people who
- 16:17live on my route, who get a ton of tons of catalogs, a ton of
- 16:22what I call send us, money mail, you know, political parties,
- 16:26Charities, whatever, could get tons of mail.
- 16:29When they, when they hold their. When I hold their mail for a
- 16:31week and I just put it in, I put it in a tub and take it to their
- 16:35door and there's nothing else in there, then that's also that's a
- 16:39nun scam parcel. And when you deliver it to their
- 16:42door and that's where you Deliver it on scam.
- 16:45Parcel delivered it door, then you don't need to do the door
- 16:49miscellaneous. Can that is something?
- 16:53That is correct? Yes.
- 16:54So your designating, where you're delivering it?
- 16:57Yes, don't forget the packs of socks, the gloves the pens and
- 17:02things like that they send to Right?
- 17:10Unfit unbendable pieces. They send those things in.
- 17:15Yeah so following up with that we had another question asked I
- 17:20keep hearing about the eight pieces for unscanned partial
- 17:23credit. I believe it's eight pieces for
- 17:26a close business on Saturday as well.
- 17:28I'm guessing it's eight pieces are more of DPS for hold mail to
- 17:32handle the same way of the close business.
- 17:34As we just said, it's 8:00. Pieces.
- 17:37It doesn't matter if it's DPS flat or even a small Parcels
- 17:44that have no barcodes, eight pieces, held is a non scam,
- 17:48parcel. And it's not every eight pieces.
- 17:54I have seen this one come up. It's eight pieces or more.
- 18:01Not each eight pieces. All right gang, that gets rid of
- 18:0530 credits on my one person, every day aren't Kristen.
- 18:12I'm sorry, but now it's not every eight pieces.
- 18:16It's if so if you have somebody that goes on hold that doesn't
- 18:20get a lot of mail and so when you take it out and they only
- 18:22have six up to seven pieces of mail total, you're just
- 18:26delivering that mail if there is eight or more total Pieces.
- 18:31Then that would be a scan unscannable parcel. and that
- 18:36includes, if they have eight pieces of marriage, male, So if
- 18:42they have a marriage mail and a card that goes with it and you
- 18:47get that for four weeks because you can only hold mail for 30
- 18:50days if they get that for four weeks, that's eight pieces.
- 18:54That is an unscanned parcel. Now, it's not, if you get just
- 19:00the marriage mail without the card.
- 19:02But if you get married, Marilyn card, every week for that, and
- 19:05it's eight pieces total. It's another scam parcel, right,
- 19:09right. But if they don't get it, well,
- 19:11that's if they don't get anything else exactly what we're
- 19:15talking about. If they get nothing else, but
- 19:17the marriage male and a card that goes with the marriage
- 19:19male. Yeah, minimum the saying, yeah.
- 19:23All right, I know the next one. Who's got the breakdown of the
- 19:26between the years and the page tables.
- 19:29Bill. No, I don't have to break down
- 19:32on that. Keep that in my case, you know,
- 19:35you know, the you know where the the years where that they
- 19:39changed over to the tables and stuff like that, right.
- 19:42I actually just have been looking for that.
- 19:44I just have it pulled up. All right you take this one,
- 19:48don't you do it regular carriers that converted to regular prior
- 19:53to November 20th, 2010 will be on table one.
- 19:59RCA's that were hired between November 20th 2010, and August
- 20:1111th. 2012. Will be paid on that tire on was
- 20:22at table 3. But when they convert, if they
- 20:27were hired after that November of 2010, they will go to table,
- 20:31too. Now, there's also another caveat
- 20:38to that your hire date as an RCA. maybe back in that
- 20:45timeframe, but if you moved offices, You're hired eight
- 20:51changed because you have that record of being with the post
- 20:56office at whole time. But you're hired a starts over
- 21:00when you move to that new office.
- 21:02So, whatever table, your know, your hire date doesn't change
- 21:06your you're off already. Yeah.
- 21:17And that changes your table to now.
- 21:19It doesn't allow that. I was told it did.
- 21:23We can delete that. Okay.
- 21:25Delete that part, I will. Yep.
- 21:29So anyone that converted to regular prior to November 20th
- 21:36in 2010 is on table. 11. Any RCA's that were hired from
- 21:50prior to August 11th of 2012 were on table 3, which is the
- 21:56higher pay scale for RCA's. But because they were hired
- 22:04after that November 2010 date, they, when they convert to PTF
- 22:11and or regular, they'll be on table two.
- 22:16Which sucked for those that when they converted because now
- 22:21they're converting to a much lower pay scale.
- 22:29And if you were hired as an RCA prior to that date and a 10
- 22:33because my memory is shot at the moment short-term and you go
- 22:37regular you will be table one. Yes, your actual hire date.
- 22:43So for example, I was hired in 2006 but I didn't go regular
- 22:50until 2015. So I was, I went to table one.
- 22:55As long as your actual hire date was prior to November of 2010
- 23:01you will be on table one. Regardless of the weather takes
- 23:03you took you 15 10 Even 20 years to go regular.
- 23:09And if you were hired after he 2012 day, well your table for
- 23:16and when you go regular, you're our table Right weight and
- 23:21feeling. And the main reason for that,
- 23:28Was there were so many RCA's at the time to go and retro them
- 23:35and change their pay. I can't legally call the RCA's
- 23:39hired in two years. They wouldn't it was unfeasible
- 23:45to do. Well, I know there was a I know
- 23:50a couple people that actually were hired like just after that
- 23:55cutoff date, and they did actually reduce their pay and
- 23:59put them on table four. All right.
- 24:06Moving on. And that's a hell of a Payday
- 24:09drop. Yeah.
- 24:19And I hate to heat the defend the postal service on this but
- 24:26this was a matter of business. Survivability it really was if
- 24:33we continued on with table one we pretty much would have lost
- 24:38the the no layoff clause. Because they wouldn't be able to
- 24:43afford that the kick pay everybody at The Accelerated
- 24:46rate of table one. Well, this is one of the fine
- 24:49things that that arbitrator gave us along with RX.
- 24:52Well, who is the two tables, but I think that was one of the
- 24:57things that they post office was trying to push and we were
- 25:00saying, no, yeah they did that. They got that idea from the auto
- 25:06manufacturers who went to to table systems themselves.
- 25:09Well actual that may be where it originally came from but
- 25:14actually the apwu actually voted it in right and agree to it and
- 25:21then both us and And the city carriers got handed it to us in
- 25:24arbitration. I hear yes.
- 25:28All right, let's move on to the next one.
- 25:32Is there a report the verify scred it is being received for
- 25:35the unscannable parcel scans? In the RMS, s report management
- 25:43has access to that and they can pull up all your scans and
- 25:49that's where that's going to be. Now, let me add a little sidebar
- 25:53on there because it says, verifies credit today, my office
- 26:00has not been able to verify anything, so that's a critical
- 26:06word in there in regards to verifying it.
- 26:10Yes. Does Peter Pan fly?
- 26:13I don't know. I've never seen them supposed
- 26:15her fine. Can I verify the the unscanned
- 26:18parcel I've never seen them. You can see how many the
- 26:22computer registers and the RMS s report that way.
- 26:26And you can you can have your management print that out for
- 26:31you. And then when it finally comes
- 26:33time, you can look at your 42 41 m.
- 26:38Add up all your unscanned Parcels / 301, and that will
- 26:41give you the daily number of unscanned parcels you have, and
- 26:44that should be the number. That's on your 4241, em under
- 26:47the unscanned, parcel, but that's assuming management can.
- 26:52Hold it up for you supposedly. Okay.
- 27:01How do you factor p.m. casing? If you do a parcel on before,
- 27:06you run the route, some of us do that in my office.
- 27:10I never knew you were to use p.m. casing for suffix.
- 27:13S trip packages, what would be best to make the second trip
- 27:16after and do we clock out before doing this?
- 27:20Firstly, never clock out until you are heading to your personal
- 27:24vehicle to go home? You don't, you aren't off the
- 27:30clock until you're done doing work.
- 27:33Always be on the clock. Even if you're under p.m.
- 27:36casing, you are on the clock still under the system. p.m.
- 27:43crate casing is only to be used either for second trips, when
- 27:49manage when you don't have enough room for all the parcels
- 27:52in your vehicle, whether it be your POV or an LL V FF VII, or
- 27:58even the new generation delivery vehicles if we ever get them,
- 28:02Second trips are to be done after end of shift duties.
- 28:08You get deliver, all the mail you come back, put everything
- 28:12away, get everything done for your into shift stuff, then
- 28:16click p.m. casing. Start load vehicle.
- 28:20Load your packages. Take them to your vehicle unload
- 28:24your conveyance. Bring the conveyance back part
- 28:26or belongs and load vehicle. Go deliver the packages.
- 28:31You don't hit anything else. Then when you get back to your
- 28:36duties of putting everything away, that you had your keys and
- 28:39things like that, then you clock out.
- 28:43The unions have the union has stated that we should not be
- 28:48running second trips in the morning because we're was the
- 28:52first trip before you made a second trip, right?
- 28:56I was a James. The only thing I would add is to
- 28:59what you just said is, if you are doing a second trip, notate
- 29:03what the miles are and no take them on your 4240 or green card.
- 29:10So they can pay you the mileage at the if they maintain two
- 29:15minutes of Mile, I don't know what they're going to do with
- 29:19the new, with the rec system on that.
- 29:22I haven't heard anything change other than, you know, than two
- 29:24minutes a mile. All right, all right.
- 29:28Currently in the contract is still two minutes per mile for
- 29:30second trips and plus EMA and you're doing a if you're in a
- 29:35POV plus your EMA. And if you're a POV But also,
- 29:41it's only rural regular rural carriers.
- 29:45That will be paid. The second trip rate RCA's.
- 29:50Anybody that's RCA's rpts that are doing.
- 29:54It will get paid Green Card time.
- 29:57Straight Green Card. Time to run a second trip.
- 30:03Verify that. Yes.
- 30:06Every language I've seen bill says RCA's, our second trip is
- 30:10paid the same. Yeah I was I was told it's green
- 30:15card time for RCA's know if the RCA is running the route and has
- 30:21to do the second trip then. And it was my experience as an
- 30:27RCA was still two minutes per mile plus.
- 30:31So you may have the reason we say the same thing you were
- 30:39going to say, Obviously the acceptor the group where comes
- 30:41into green card is if you're running Route, 34 today and you
- 30:46come back and they say, we need you to take these Parcels for
- 30:49Route, 5 & 6. And that's when it was switched
- 30:53Green Card. Yeah.
- 30:55Because now you're no longer on that route.
- 30:58Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:59And it's also the 48-hour rule Well that's regardless you go on
- 31:05Pat's. Yeah, if you go over 40 hours
- 31:08then it's going to be straight time, no matter what.
- 31:09Anyway, so it needs to be notated on your green card.
- 31:12And if it's page 22 minutes per mile because you're under the 40
- 31:17hours, that's what you'll get and that's why you notate the
- 31:19time and the mileage on your green card.
- 31:26Okay, I was so, do you want me to take the second reason why
- 31:29you would use a pmk? Sing or do you want to do that?
- 31:34Go ahead before you before you go to that?
- 31:38Yes. What do we do?
- 31:40Because like during the Christmas over time period they
- 31:43were saying that we had to do. You had to come in and run like
- 31:5015% of your Parcels before you started casing, your mail during
- 31:55the overtime period. How was that to be handled?
- 31:58How would that be here? That is in the F21 is so people
- 32:03can go look it up. Up I am referencing the F21 the
- 32:06time record-keeping manual and it does specify that.
- 32:11Anything outside of the normal route would be route duties
- 32:18would be straight time. I actually had to go to my
- 32:22postmaster about this and even during Christmas time because we
- 32:26know how management is in the union.
- 32:28Did put a statement out on their second trips are after you.
- 32:34Run the route and then tapped is and it's morning.
- 32:38Parcel runs are needed to be done.
- 32:39That should be done by RCA's on Green Card type, but if they're
- 32:43going to force regulars, they should be paying them straight
- 32:46time. So you said, seven times 8127
- 32:51time, okay. Good.
- 32:53Okay. The second reason you would use
- 32:58the PM casing. Again, the same as James said,
- 33:01when you get back, you hit return to duty.
- 33:05And then you put everything away.
- 33:07You do all your clean up. and if you have residual mail, that was
- 33:12the first to your case, While you're on the street or you were
- 33:17aware that you were told that you were allowed to curtail
- 33:20something as long as local management gives you permission
- 33:25to case it in the afternoon. For the next day, you would
- 33:28switch to p.m. casing while you're casing that mail.
- 33:34And only that mail you don't don't do it for mail.
- 33:37You brought back from the route. All right, right?
- 33:41Because you should have taken care of that during your end of
- 33:44shift duties. Yes.
- 33:45And that also includes for those that get dumped on in the winter
- 33:49time and you can't get to a good portion of your boxes and you
- 33:55got to bring it back. That is not p.m. casing that is
- 33:59end of shift. Is that his mail for that day?
- 34:04If it's male, that's came in for the next day, then that would be
- 34:07p.m. casing. But anything that you already
- 34:09handled that day, is end of shift duties.
- 34:15All right, and you'll have to have management argue about that
- 34:19with you, but it is an initiative Duty, it's in your
- 34:23rural carrier duties, and responsibilities p, 06:03 is an
- 34:27end of shift Duty and you can actually show it to them in
- 34:30black and white in the PO 603 and there should be one every
- 34:33case. Yes, there should be one every
- 34:36every case and one that management actually has a copy
- 34:39of as well. and I do believe, it's something that's handed out
- 34:45at every Academy to everybody to our I know we're all slightly
- 34:53past that, but while we were on that subject of with the green
- 34:57card and 40 hours above and under, I know we have another
- 35:03one. Question in regards to that.
- 35:07Did you want to handle that real quick question?
- 35:09Yes I will. We had a audio comment come in
- 35:14on Spotify of an RCA who has been running his primary route
- 35:20for two full weeks. The the first and the second
- 35:23week of the pay period, the and worked all six days.
- 35:28The first week, they got paid the entire evaluation for all
- 35:32six days and And the second week they were paid for 40 hours and
- 35:40an hour. One point six hours of overtime.
- 35:42I think it was, I'm sorry if I missed quoted that, that
- 35:47actually is correct. You have as an RCA.
- 35:51You have to be at 40 hours or under for the entire week
- 35:57whether that's five or six days. You work in order to get the
- 36:01full evaluation pay. You go a minute over. 40 hours.
- 36:08You are you get paid 40 hours in a minute of OT or anything that
- 36:13you want above 40 hours? Unfortunately, that is how it
- 36:16is. Yes, we lose money when that
- 36:19happens. And we just kind of kick
- 36:22ourselves and but I've gotten to the point anymore.
- 36:27I I'm not going to try and rush to make that evaluation.
- 36:32I'm just going to do my job the best to my ability.
- 36:35If I go over 40, whether it's an hour or two hours, it is what it
- 36:39is. And if I'm under 40 for the week
- 36:42and I get the full evaluation of everything, great.
- 36:45But yeah, unfortunately, that's how it is.
- 36:48And that is actually a fair labor standards act because we
- 36:53are considered part-time employees.
- 36:55Yes. And so yeah, anything 40 hours
- 36:59and above anything above 40 hours is over time and 40 hours
- 37:04or less is full evaluation pay. Kind of an incentive for you to
- 37:12get it done quicker but don't rush yourself be accurate and be
- 37:19safe. Yeah, exactly yes.
- 37:22My sub like the work off the clock.
- 37:25How does this hurt the route C? We don't know what goes all goes
- 37:29into it but in several offices we noticed routes and come in
- 37:32early. Get done early get lower
- 37:34evaluations in somewhat similar routes.
- 37:36Take as you wish with carried discretion First of all, working
- 37:41off, the clock is illegal, and agreement should be filed
- 37:45against management because you are to entitled to be paid for
- 37:49the work that you do. Second of all, if you are
- 37:52working off the clock and you are injured, the USPS has no
- 37:58guarantee whatsoever to place you on owcp because you were not
- 38:05not allowed to work off the clock.
- 38:08Therefore, you're not covered by.
- 38:10Workman's comp, third of all, you're hurting the evaluation of
- 38:14the route, get paid for what you're getting you're doing.
- 38:16Okay the top it all off, it doesn't make any sense because
- 38:22with the wrecks program we should be getting full pay for
- 38:27everything that we're doing. Much more than we had in the old
- 38:31system so don't do anything for free, don't get hurt and not get
- 38:36covered. And don't give management the
- 38:39opportunity to take Take advantage of you because you've
- 38:41done it in the past and that's what they will.
- 38:44They will hold that over your head and say, well, you know can
- 38:47you do me a favor here, can you do me a favor know if you're
- 38:51going to do anything, work-related it has to be on the
- 38:54clock. And if management allowing you
- 38:57to come in early to start, then you then they that, if if
- 39:03they're giving you permission to come in and start early, then
- 39:08you're clocking in early. And then that's going to be on
- 39:11management to have to explain to above them.
- 39:14White people are clocking in early And the other side of this
- 39:20is, I did see an argument about this.
- 39:23Well, if you get hurt on in the office, by something that
- 39:27happens with the office, you're covered by their insurance.
- 39:30Yeah, you probably are in some instances in some instances, but
- 39:37that insurance has limits on it that insurance will fight tooth
- 39:42and nail not to pay you for that injury.
- 39:46They will do anything and everything they can.
- 39:48An including hiring private investigators to follow you
- 39:52around and take pictures of you to try and get out of having to
- 39:56pay you for it. They can wrap you up and legal
- 39:59situations for years. Why do you think there are so
- 40:03many advertisements for personal injury?
- 40:06Lawyers on TV all the time it's because it's a big money-making
- 40:09business for lawyers and for insurance companies.
- 40:14Don't take a chance with your life and your career because you
- 40:20could have a career ending injury off the clock, and not be
- 40:25covered by owcp. Alright, so several days a week,
- 40:33I have to drive one and a half miles into the post office to
- 40:36drop a mailbag. 4430 dispatch, how do I account for that?
- 40:42If you are well there's a few scenarios of this first, you
- 40:46would talk to your postmaster about the earlier, start to
- 40:49ensure that you're making the truck number one.
- 40:53If your evaluation times are not within making truck dispatch,
- 40:59then you need to talk to your boss.
- 41:00Mr. About that. If it's not possible, you should
- 41:04be getting miscellaneous time. Supposedly, during the many mail
- 41:09survey that would be something that would be timed, especially
- 41:11if it is something that is reoccurring, and then you should
- 41:18also be getting paid the mileage, the additional mileage
- 41:21to and from the route. Now I'm going to say if this is
- 41:24something that happens more times than not.
- 41:28I would have I would talk the postmaster about having that put
- 41:32in to the route where you're returning to the office to drop
- 41:37it and then returning back to the route, I would see if that
- 41:42could be built into the route into the 4003.
- 41:46Well it's not late now the LT and they don't do the 4003
- 41:49anymore but you know what? I'm here.
- 41:51So they say supposedly. Yeah.
- 41:56But you know, my first step would be seeing about the
- 41:59adjustment of times if possible for your valuation to be making
- 42:02that truck. Otherwise I would be seeing, if
- 42:07you could be paid straight time or having that be a timed event
- 42:13during the next mini mail survey Let's getting the mileage to and
- 42:17from, if you're in a, POV are the other option would be having
- 42:22it built into your route. Now again, that's all it's
- 42:29something that you would have to discuss with management or reach
- 42:32out to your adrd, are on that specifically, Definitely talk to
- 42:38your local union representative for it for sure.
- 42:42I would like clarification on Rural reach credit your podcast
- 42:46explained it but I believe it's misleading to carriers.
- 42:49I enquired that it is only for new Revenue, it should result in
- 42:53a lead. Rural reach was an automatic
- 42:59credit, under the old count system.
- 43:01The same as stamps oxtails, Rural reach is designed, as a
- 43:07way to increase postal Revenue. We Believe, personally, anything
- 43:13you do to increase revenue for the post office should be rural
- 43:18reach, however, its carrier discretion.
- 43:23Since we weren't officially trained in, Rex by management,
- 43:26the rural reach was a program to design to try and get more
- 43:32business. Customers involved, whether it's
- 43:34through, eddm sending Parcels through the post office
- 43:40themselves. Elves.
- 43:41Things like that. I'll give you an example from my
- 43:43route. I had a customer who was
- 43:46shipping through us. But also shipping through other
- 43:50people and I noticed a bunch of packages in the back of her car
- 43:54when I was delivering her mail because her her mailbox is right
- 43:58at her driveway. And so I got out and I spoke
- 44:01with her about it and actually talk with her about shipping, it
- 44:05with me, picking it up at her house instead of her having to
- 44:08go to all these different locations to drop these packages
- 44:12off. And now I pick up all her
- 44:15packages, that was a real reach for me.
- 44:20So do with that information, what you believe talk with your
- 44:23local union representative, get their opinion.
- 44:27Ask management if they have any clue.
- 44:29I've also seen Floating around out there in the social media
- 44:34webs of a picture of a form that has the press in the rural reach
- 44:42credit and then going back to the main screen and there's a
- 44:46selection for lead where you fill in the information.
- 44:50Hence, an electronic lead cart. And it's directing them that if
- 44:57you put in the rural reach, you have to put in that one to get
- 45:01the credit. I personally had never seen that
- 45:05before until recently on social media.
- 45:09That was when the leader thing. First came out on the scanners,
- 45:15I know in my office are postmaster, told the city
- 45:19carriers about it but nothing has ever been mentioned to the
- 45:22rural side about it. yeah, our Postmaster told us about that
- 45:27and actually our district is putting on a drive to get
- 45:31carriers to put leads in, there are scanners and things like
- 45:34that and then if you reach so many carriers that have done one
- 45:40in the office, they'll do something for you maybe
- 45:45supposedly the way but I've actually they're the lead card
- 45:53in the scanner. You have to have the company
- 45:56name, a name of a contact address.
- 45:59A phone number, possibly an email to be able to put in that
- 46:04lead card. And then actually they will,
- 46:07they will investigate that lead and the reply to you on that
- 46:10scanner. They will actually send you a
- 46:12reply, whether they did anything with that leader, not because
- 46:16I've done them so until I was it's probably you.
- 46:22Yes, you know, the pops up with that screen with all the
- 46:25information that required for the lead to actually be credited
- 46:29to your route. Yeah, it's kind of say yeah, I
- 46:32was going to say because I had somebody who is advertising on
- 46:35my CB use and I took one of them and I was at all, it had was
- 46:40like his first name and a phone number and, you know, it
- 46:44wouldn't process it because I didn't have an address or
- 46:47anything, anything else that I could identify the guy with.
- 46:50So, I couldn't, I couldn't enter the folded card.
- 46:57But again, this is where it comes down to the inconsistent
- 47:00training on the management side. Like I said, I've seen this and
- 47:04more than one. I personally have never seen
- 47:07this in my office. So again, inconsistent training
- 47:11on the management side, that's where we say, you know, this is
- 47:16something that's definitely a carrier discretion and
- 47:19definitely talk to your management and reach out to your
- 47:24assigned union rep on the All right, y'all stated that
- 47:28stopping at every box is falsifying breadcrumbs, but
- 47:31we've been instructed by management to stop at every
- 47:34address. So what is the protocol with
- 47:36that? any time you get a new directive
- 47:39from management, S4 it in writing, You're going to want
- 47:43that piece of paper, just in case to cover your behind.
- 47:48If management structure to do something and it's a direct
- 47:50order, you have to follow it, unless it's dangerous unsafe or
- 47:54illegal or immoral. So if Management's telling you
- 47:57to stop at every mailbox, whether you have mail for them
- 48:01or not, whether their flag is up or not, ask for that.
- 48:04Directive in writing for management.
- 48:07And do as you're instructed. And then notify your assigned
- 48:13union rep. Because management may not be
- 48:19the one out there seeing you stopping at every box.
- 48:24District management postal inspectors a manager.
- 48:28From another office could come out and inspect your route and
- 48:32see you doing that. And basically write you up for
- 48:35that. That's why you get it in
- 48:37writing. The question is we have a local
- 48:40news station that wants to do a story about this Rex debacle?
- 48:44Are we allowed to speak to them? I'm pressing this this is not
- 48:50legal advice the USPS and the union would tell, you know, do
- 48:56not speak to them, direct them to the proper media channels at
- 49:01both organizations. However, the National Labor
- 49:06Relations Board, says, otherwise and we advise anyone that wishes
- 49:13to speak out to familiarize themselves.
- 49:16Holy with the Rules of the National Labor Relations Board.
- 49:20And what you are legally able to do, we would also caution you to
- 49:24speak with a local labor, attorney to get advice on this,
- 49:29as well as your local union representative.
- 49:34Can you explain start load and unload duties and more detail?
- 49:42We are getting confusing answers on what constitutes part of
- 49:47loading duties. Okay, anytime you go to load
- 49:52anything into your room, delivery vehicle, you would
- 49:56start the load when you start it and then when you're pregnant,
- 50:00you end load. If some people, I know when they
- 50:05come in the morning, like, to grab their parcels and put them
- 50:09in the vehicles to get them out of the way, if that's what you
- 50:12do. When you start, you start your
- 50:14load, bring them out to your vehicle.
- 50:17Put them in. When you come back in you, end,
- 50:20and load once your pulled, you know, like myself.
- 50:24Once your pulled down and all of your mail is in a conveyance.
- 50:29With the parcels. You start load looking vehicle
- 50:34and then when you bring the commands back in you and load,
- 50:37the only difference is if the clerk's bring the larger
- 50:44packages to your case and put them on the floor at your route,
- 50:48at your case, you can include lifting them up off the floor
- 50:55and putting them all into a conveyance as part of your load
- 50:59time. If you use more than one
- 51:02conveyance, As long as both conveyances are loaded and ready
- 51:09to go. You start to load bring the
- 51:12first one out, loaded vehicle with it.
- 51:15Come back in for add the second one, go out, look that up.
- 51:20Come back in then and your load if you will only have one
- 51:26conveyance container. Once you come back in the first
- 51:30time you end load, we fill the conveyance.
- 51:36Then start loading again. Is there anything else that I
- 51:41might have missed or that? We just saying that.
- 51:45You've got to make sure that the load time does not include going
- 51:51to get your conveyance. Whether it's a, you know,
- 51:55nothing truck, a A, or green wire cage, whatever, whatever
- 52:01you want to call it, I use the word hamper to mean anything
- 52:04other than like a nutting truck. We have to call it.
- 52:07A pumpkin, a gurney, a trolley, a buggy whatever.
- 52:10Just call it a hamper but it doesn't include going to get
- 52:14that. It's and it doesn't include your
- 52:17pull down time. It's just like Josh said, when
- 52:20you have your conveyance loaded and you go to push out that's
- 52:25when you hit start load-in. The only exception to that is if
- 52:30clerks sort the parcels to the floor at your case and then when
- 52:35your you can start load, when you're picking them up off the
- 52:38floor and putting them into the convenient.
- 52:40Yeah. Yeah, that lets you in her each
- 52:43meal, if you get marriage mail and they put it on the floor and
- 52:47you take it to the street. That's also included.
- 52:49That's start load. Yes, yes.
- 52:53The key here in clerk courted. Clerk sorted on the floor.
- 53:00If you put it on the floor at the account, yes.
- 53:06If you if you pick it up and move it around after the
- 53:09clerk's, put it on the floor, then it doesn't count anymore
- 53:13because you've already handled it.
- 53:16That's the big discrepancy. A lot of people have with that.
- 53:19Oh, I just moved out of the way to see what the parcels were
- 53:22underneath it. Unfortunately, that takes, that
- 53:26package out of the mix. It's weird convoluted, but it's
- 53:30carrier discretion. Let's see.
- 53:33If you have the years in, you're eligible, you can choose the
- 53:35high option and Route you successfully bid on.
- 53:38Or do you have to wait until another mail survey?
- 53:42Unfortunately, this has been taken all the way to stuff for
- 53:45grievance twice and 78. They said it can only be done
- 53:48upon submission of the new 40 to 41 in 88.
- 53:53It was after a Eight count survey was conducted.
- 53:56So now you cannot take the high optional successful bid until
- 54:00the next mail. Survey occurs you can switch
- 54:02back to the low option. Any time?
- 54:05This is why I say this is correct.
- 54:09You can go from high to low but you cannot go low to high.
- 54:15I will say the only possible exception to this is if the
- 54:24carrier that was that vacated the route that when it went up
- 54:28for bid had the high option. If they post it as the high
- 54:33option If you are, have make all the eligibility have the years
- 54:39in, you could possibly keep that high option.
- 54:47But as Bill said, if you have the time in Josh, you can
- 54:52fortify option. Yes.
- 54:55And the only only if it's posted with the high option, right?
- 54:59And right. And the only other thing I can
- 55:02think of, but given the way that they have the mini mail surveys
- 55:05laid out to where the second one of the year.
- 55:08At the end of September will take an effect at the beginning
- 55:11of the new guarantee period. I know in the past the beginning
- 55:14of the new guarantee period was also when you got to The higher
- 55:17low option if you qualified. So that kind of Falls
- 55:22hand-in-hand with the mini mail survey at this point.
- 55:25No, but yeah, the beginning of the new guarantee period was the
- 55:28other one. And then again, it's again if
- 55:34qualified. Yes.
- 55:38Which means 10 years. In the end of the original
- 55:43carrier, for the regular carrier.
- 55:46Yeah. It's it's PTF time.
- 55:50Count in that. Yes.
- 55:53Yes because your career employee or employees.
- 55:56So it's 10 years of the career employee not just as a regular
- 55:58carrier correct. It takes 10 years from your
- 56:03retirement eligibility date or compensation date.
- 56:08Yes. So if you've got military time
- 56:10that you bought back that would add in there as well.
- 56:15All right, I have a question about railroad track crossing
- 56:20sections. I don't have any but should
- 56:22could I get credit for funeral processions since I pull over
- 56:26stop for them. I work by delivered to a
- 56:28veterans cemetery. I don't get stopped every day
- 56:31usually two to three times a week but neither do people who
- 56:35have trained tricks or crosswalks depending on when
- 56:38they get there. Some of these are very long
- 56:40especially if it's for a for a cop says should I start keeping
- 56:45Tracks of the time and get some kind of mystical Aeneas average
- 56:49time credit for them. Thanks in advance.
- 56:54This has been debated multiple times in multiple locations, but
- 56:57if you can get management to agree to give miscellaneous time
- 57:00based off a stopwatch edit, together in seconds and I had
- 57:04all the time up for every single day.
- 57:06You stop then divide it by 3 0 1.
- 57:08That should be your miscellaneous time.
- 57:10However, this is carrier and management discussion.
- 57:14Again, I would also refer to your assigned union rep on this
- 57:20as well. I'm just going to add to this
- 57:24during the mini mail survey meetings in my district.
- 57:31One of the things that we were told was any miscellaneous time
- 57:36local management had to get District approval for So they
- 57:43couldn't just enter it. They had to submit it to one of,
- 57:47I think three people in my district and want to end those
- 57:50three people were reply, yes, or no.
- 57:53If they could put that in 8127 time and I'll put, I'll put this
- 57:59to you. We had that in one of our
- 58:01offices, in the district, here, in my district and their route,
- 58:07they have a train yard and their route goes across that Back
- 58:13about the same time that they're always switching cars in that
- 58:16train yard and blocking the crossing and it's not just 0dr
- 58:20down a block and go to the next Crossing.
- 58:23If you got to drive five miles around to get around this this
- 58:27train. So they actually got approval
- 58:30from District management to do it, the timing and then divide
- 58:36it by 3 0 1, because that's how many days out of the year, we
- 58:39work is 301 and that's how they got the The miscellaneous time
- 58:43for it. But it was approved by District
- 58:45because they're sitting at those tracks for 20-30 minutes at a
- 58:48time. This one's kind of interesting
- 58:52when the customer has their mail on hold or they get a package to
- 58:55you scan it at the office or take it out with you and scan
- 58:58that the Box just curious how everyone does things seems to be
- 59:02so many different ways of doing things.
- 59:05In our opinion, if is on hold save it and during start mode,
- 59:09scan has a hole and place it in the proper place.
- 59:12Then when it's time to go out under Start load Vehicles, scan
- 59:16it Alfred delivery and take it to the truck that way, you get
- 59:20the credit for the scan and the credit for it.
- 59:23The time it takes for you to do it.
- 59:25However management. They have may have different
- 59:27instructions and so you met, your designated union
- 59:30representative We've had this question, I brought up in our
- 59:35office in regards to scanning in the office.
- 59:40We scan at the office that it's on hold.
- 59:43We don't we don't take the package out a you know just in
- 59:48case you miss delivering be because you might lose it and
- 59:51see because you might not remember the skin at the Box,
- 59:55just do it where it's expedient in regards to doing it at your
- 1:00:01case. So when we take it back out, we
- 1:00:05don't do anything during the start load.
- 1:00:07As far as putting it out for delivery.
- 1:00:09It's the first I've heard of that.
- 1:00:10So if anybody has a different opinion.
- 1:00:13Yeah. With Express that we take it.
- 1:00:15Yeah, we take it to the customer's house.
- 1:00:18We delivered to the door to box wherever and we scan, as being
- 1:00:21delivered and management has different.
- 1:00:25Instructions, management has no clue.
- 1:00:28Because of the fact that most of our people who have been
- 1:00:31trained, Under the Rex programs, still have no clue.
- 1:00:35You may want to check with your designated union representative
- 1:00:38on that. I don't give them any
- 1:00:41opportunity that say that I'm falsifying or adding scans on
- 1:00:44there. So, that's the way I do it.
- 1:00:45I take it, I deliver it and I scan it at place in the proper
- 1:00:50place. Whether set the door to mailbox
- 1:00:52at the garage, but I have a Target on my back because of who
- 1:00:59I am and I don't give them any opportunity.
- 1:01:01Opportunity to give me. So you do, as we say carry your
- 1:01:07discretion, I do the same thing as you.
- 1:01:10I scan it as customer. Hold the day.
- 1:01:13I get it. And then I mark it and load it
- 1:01:16with the rest of my Parcels the day of the whole resumes.
- 1:01:20But I have heard Different management people saying that
- 1:01:26they want you to scan it out for delivery route, for redelivery
- 1:01:31that morning. So the customer knows is
- 1:01:33actually coming out. But like you say, I follow what
- 1:01:37your local management and union rep, tell you advise you to do
- 1:01:42for your area. Yeah, I am in my office.
- 1:01:47We some people do skin it out for delivery.
- 1:01:52And in my opinion, we I do that because if the customer comes in
- 1:01:58and just looking for their mail or something or package and
- 1:02:01they're like, well, it shows that it's on hold here.
- 1:02:04And then, the management looks up the number in the computer
- 1:02:07and tracks, it says, out for delivery.
- 1:02:10So that way management can see that.
- 1:02:12Hey, the package is out for delivery and but again, carrier
- 1:02:18discretion consult your local management and union
- 1:02:22representative for your own guidance on this.
- 1:02:26And if your regular your customers know that you'll
- 1:02:30deliver all the mail, and their packages, unless it's something
- 1:02:34that they're, they're need that day.
- 1:02:36They're really not going to, you know, come into the office to
- 1:02:39look for a package while they were out on vacation.
- 1:02:43That's that's the that's the advantage of having your own
- 1:02:47route and knowing your customer base.
- 1:02:50So you know like I said that I do it the way I do it because
- 1:02:54that's what I feel most comfortable about and I know my
- 1:02:57customer base. So if you want to do it with the
- 1:03:00out for delivery, go ahead knock yourself out.
- 1:03:05I'm just wondering if I'm just wondering, though, if we, as we
- 1:03:12is, if we as carrier scan it as out for delivery route for
- 1:03:18redelivery, does that actually update the tracking that they
- 1:03:22that they see if they if they go to look up the, the the tracking
- 1:03:27number on the on the post office website.
- 1:03:32These scanners are allegedly, supposedly uploading.
- 1:03:38Every 5 to 20 minutes, they upload data supposably it.
- 1:03:43So it's quicker than that. It's quite.
- 1:03:46So every minute, every time you guys can and then every five
- 1:03:50minutes If it's not, if it doesn't move for five minutes,
- 1:03:55then it sends up another signal. I've got a doozy one here, guys.
- 1:04:01Let me, let me, let me preface this.
- 1:04:03I have one more on that and the reason why you scan it in the
- 1:04:06morning in the office, if your customer has your hold on pick
- 1:04:10up and they come in at data, pick it up.
- 1:04:12Guess what? That package is there waiting
- 1:04:14for them with their whole? Absolutely.
- 1:04:17So don't forget that part two. Yeah, well the yeah because I
- 1:04:22was told when I at my office, when I first got there, they
- 1:04:25told me that I had to scan my hold, my hold Parcels as
- 1:04:31delivered. Even if I was holding it in the
- 1:04:35office and I said, well, you know, if you've got a customer
- 1:04:37that's that's holding their mail and they something comes in and
- 1:04:44they say it's delivered. I'm going to get a complaint
- 1:04:47saying, why are they delivering my Parcels?
- 1:04:49When I'm not there to when I'm not there.
- 1:04:51Why the hell are they delivering them?
- 1:04:54I'm just I'm just saying that because I just continue to do it
- 1:04:59the way I was trained. Say no, it's on hold.
- 1:05:00I'm scanning it Islam. Hold and Of course it's the
- 1:05:04broad brush. Well, some carriers are
- 1:05:08forgetting to scan them delivered when they deliver
- 1:05:11them, it's like, well, okay then why aren't you deliver?
- 1:05:13Why aren't you addressing that with the carrier's involved?
- 1:05:16Instead of making, some no made of become yourself, brought some
- 1:05:21made of excuse some dumb planket policy address, it will enable
- 1:05:25who aren't doing it, right? The caveat to that.
- 1:05:28Also, Mike on what you're saying or on because at one point, my
- 1:05:33logo management was telling us scan, it delivered.
- 1:05:39Also and when they were pushing that, I would follow it with a
- 1:05:44hold scan after I did the delivery scan but If you scan it
- 1:05:51delivered. A lot of these companies have a
- 1:05:5530 day return policy from the data delivered.
- 1:06:00So that's the day. One of a five-day of a week-long
- 1:06:04cold. They've just lost a week for
- 1:06:09them to decide that they want to return it.
- 1:06:11Yep. They one of a 30-day hold yeah.
- 1:06:16Yeah yeah. We or had a thing in our office
- 1:06:20where they started by my former postmaster of scanning them
- 1:06:25delivered to agent. When they were cold.
- 1:06:30Well, number one, that does not stop the clock with Amazon.
- 1:06:35And that was because had something to do with the
- 1:06:38clerk's. I don't know exactly what it was
- 1:06:41but it's still one of those things.
- 1:06:44I am trying to rework back out to scanning as customer, hold
- 1:06:49properly. But yeah.
- 1:06:55It's probably because the clerks were scanning them delivered.
- 1:06:58Exactly. Which brings me to a question
- 1:07:03about scanning as anybody been advised or directed to scan the
- 1:07:09certified letters that are in your DPS.
- 1:07:14As being received in office. No, no, no.
- 1:07:19In fact, are we have right on are accountable?
- 1:07:22Cart, there's a printout of this says, do not scan arrived at
- 1:07:26unit for certified. It's even for the clerk's for
- 1:07:30the ones that created the wrong mail.
- 1:07:32Yeah, yeah. They're just going to the route
- 1:07:37now. Yep.
- 1:07:38Then why are they paying for the service?
- 1:07:41They're now treated as dissipator.
- 1:07:43First class mail with a signature confirmation
- 1:07:46basically. Yeah.
- 1:07:48Oh wow. It's just like the international
- 1:07:52registers that were used to be on the accountable carton.
- 1:07:55Now they're being thrown in your parcel cart.
- 1:07:59Yeah they're counted as a certified don't have any way.
- 1:08:05All right, so I have this email that I didn't, I don't remember
- 1:08:07if I shared with you guys or not, but I'm going to read this
- 1:08:11and I'm going to let you guys answer this for me more than
- 1:08:16what I go boy with whom do I grieve when I'm denied a
- 1:08:21volunteer assignment by labor. Me and a couple other co-workers
- 1:08:26had the opportunity to go help in another state.
- 1:08:29It all came to a halt when I was told District labor manager had
- 1:08:33denied it. I asked the gentlemen in that
- 1:08:37state. If he often sees request tonight
- 1:08:40and he said only from City carriers.
- 1:08:42And that there is nothing in writing that says a role,
- 1:08:45carrier cannot take an assignment.
- 1:08:48Not long. After I received an email from
- 1:08:50the union rep, I think they were the ADR asking for info about
- 1:08:56it. So they could send it to the
- 1:08:58board. I sent them a copy of the flyer
- 1:09:01weeks passed, and I heard nothing.
- 1:09:03They happened to be in the office one day and I asked them
- 1:09:07about it. They didn't offer an explanation
- 1:09:10except saying that it was only for RCA's, which I took is not
- 1:09:15legitimate seeing as I had been in contact with the Requesting
- 1:09:18volunteers and he knew our positions were regular rural
- 1:09:22carriers. The other thing that really
- 1:09:25rubbed me the wrong way was that they tried to discourage me by
- 1:09:28saying that it wasn't worth it and the per diem I'd make
- 1:09:31wouldn't cover housing costs again contradicting.
- 1:09:34The flyer I was ready to explore all possible means of resolving
- 1:09:39this and even wrote my congressman, they reply to try
- 1:09:42and have it taken care of locally.
- 1:09:44First, it kind of moot at this point because I'm going, Going
- 1:09:48into management. But I know my co-workers still
- 1:09:50would like to go and I'm still wanting a solid black and white
- 1:09:53answer as to why we couldn't. Thank you. as far as I know
- 1:10:03assignment details are just for RCA since there's no way to pay
- 1:10:06a regular outside of their office on the rural side and my
- 1:10:11correct, Is it there's no way to pay them outside of the current
- 1:10:19mou for anything other than the route?
- 1:10:21At least there's no contractual way to pay them.
- 1:10:24Yeah. Fall for their route except for
- 1:10:27during the mo use allowing them to with system routes.
- 1:10:32But again, that's all within your office, this is an
- 1:10:34assignment. Yeah, totally different state.
- 1:10:36Yeah, right. Yeah, that's that's why, because
- 1:10:42I did one of those as an CA and the only ones, the only the only
- 1:10:50carriers that were allowed to do it where cca's and RCA's.
- 1:10:53And I think in, I believe it was for that reason that there's no
- 1:10:57way there's there's this no way to legally pay the regular
- 1:11:02carrier for working outside of their outside of their aside
- 1:11:07route, and then, I think you run into things like, if if you're
- 1:11:13on say say your routes of 40 45k and they put you and they don't
- 1:11:20have a 45k route available for you.
- 1:11:23Then what happens you know you're going to run into getting
- 1:11:26paid less. I just think there's I just
- 1:11:31don't think there's I think there's it's just too convoluted
- 1:11:35to try and pay regular to work outside their office.
- 1:11:39I agree. Okay.
- 1:11:41So also just some clarification when we were talking about
- 1:11:46manually entering the barcodes typing a man.
- 1:11:50We weren't talking about using option, five manual entry, where
- 1:11:53it allows you to change the date.
- 1:11:55In the time we were talking about actually manually keying
- 1:11:59in the barcode, not under the manual entry, that I know, has
- 1:12:03popped up a few times. When we say manually, enter it,
- 1:12:06we're not talking about doing it under Oscars.
- 1:12:09We're talking about under the regular scanning The regular
- 1:12:13skin option. A you have to type in the
- 1:12:16number, the numbers because because they won't scan, right?
- 1:12:22Yeah poor. And whenever we were when we
- 1:12:25were discussing the eight digits at the beginning of the scan
- 1:12:30when you actually use the barcode and scan it with the
- 1:12:35scanner, you're not manually inputting, you scan it with the
- 1:12:37scanner whether it's a first class or priority.
- 1:12:42Image or an Amazon package when you scan it with the scanner,
- 1:12:47you will look at the numbers that pop up on the screen, you
- 1:12:50will see a three digit number prior to the ZIP code, that that
- 1:12:54package gets delivered to. And then you will see the
- 1:12:57numbers that are listed below the barcode.
- 1:13:00Those first eight numbers on that scan are the ones we were
- 1:13:03talking about, not the first eight numbers, you see, on the
- 1:13:06parcel, their numbers, you won't see unless you hit it with the
- 1:13:10barcode scanner. And if you have to key, if you
- 1:13:17have to type it in, you're just typing in.
- 1:13:19What's on the actual package? Yeah.
- 1:13:23And cussing, especially if you have another 25 of them.
- 1:13:31Yo, if you're eight as p.m. for today, yeah, on a Monday or
- 1:13:40Tuesday after a Monday holiday. Yeah.
- 1:13:42And it's and it's raining out. Or snowing or sleep.
- 1:13:50Yeah, our Dark Night like some of your cases tornadoes today,
- 1:14:00Virginia Beach today. When we were recording this had
- 1:14:03a tornado go through. Don't worry it'll blow by it's
- 1:14:12just a giant wind bag anyway. I didn't know bill was in
- 1:14:17Virginia. Oh right now, yeah.
- 1:14:25That that manual entry option to be honest I'm surprised they
- 1:14:30haven't removed that from the scanner and yeah I think the
- 1:14:35only ones of the fact that If it requires you to add once you put
- 1:14:39in the barcode or tracking number, it requires you to add a
- 1:14:45date and a Time. Yep.
- 1:14:48Which is manipulating and potentially could be falsifying
- 1:14:54and the reason they put a stop to that is because carriers were
- 1:14:58going into that or management. For express mail to beat that
- 1:15:0412:00 cut off. So they weren't failing that
- 1:15:09they used to. Am I talking about the alleged
- 1:15:12Integrity scans? And I was just going to talk to
- 1:15:15him or that I was just going to touch on that is I think I've
- 1:15:19actually only used that mantle and manual entry Weiss in my
- 1:15:24going on eight and a half years and that was /.
- 1:15:28The supervisors directive at the time, I'm for a scan ahead been
- 1:15:33missed the day before and I knew I had delivered it.
- 1:15:36So she had me punched it in under manual with the
- 1:15:39approximate time. Yeah, it was prior to the whole
- 1:15:44Integrity scan stuff. Yeah.
- 1:15:47Yeah. I would say that I did that at
- 1:15:49my, at my old office when I was an RCA with the Two scanners
- 1:15:58ago. Not.
- 1:16:01So we have the ones we're using now.
- 1:16:02We had the big bricks. The ones before that.
- 1:16:05Oh yes. Yeah, the ones with the green
- 1:16:06scan light. Yeah.
- 1:16:08Yeah. Well no, well, the ones that we
- 1:16:11were discussing before that you that we had a that we sink to a
- 1:16:15Bluetooth. Yeah.
- 1:16:17The fluid flow than you think with the with the with the
- 1:16:20Bluetooth to to get the GPS locators on it.
- 1:16:25Yeah. Would we would they have the
- 1:16:26report with the Miss scans? I did it.
- 1:16:30I did it once or twice the next day.
- 1:16:32Hey, did you do you remember a parcel for this guy?
- 1:16:34And it's like to say to my man by supervised man, I don't I
- 1:16:39don't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday and you want
- 1:16:41me to remember if I ski but normally it's like, you know, I
- 1:16:45came back with the truck empty. So I'm pretty sure I delivered
- 1:16:47it. All right, said, okay, well I've
- 1:16:50got another one that we haven't followed up on you.
- 1:16:52That came as a private message into the page.
- 1:16:57This is one more question if you have the time is blue box, scan
- 1:17:00and pick up. A neither Rex guide or contract.
- 1:17:04I have paper copies both in front of me and cannot find it.
- 1:17:06Trying to put together documentation to present to the
- 1:17:09postmaster request. The UPS Store.
- 1:17:12Drop off pickup location, be added as a blue box on mapping.
- 1:17:21Because I assume as the UPS Store drop off pick up, she
- 1:17:25probably has like a blue box scan code that she has to scan
- 1:17:29it. Think that I answered.
- 1:17:31Let me answer this because we have, I have this situation in
- 1:17:35my office because we have a UPS carrier, my office has a UPS
- 1:17:40store on her route and yeah she goes in, she takes an empty tub
- 1:17:48in, you know, behind the counter.
- 1:17:50They They accept mail, she swaps an empty tub for a full tub.
- 1:17:54And there is a, there's a barcode, there's a blue box
- 1:17:58barcode on that, on the door to their mail drop And it has to it
- 1:18:06has to be cleared like any other blue box can on any other route
- 1:18:13and you know, there have been times that you know, when I was
- 1:18:16an RCA that it's like hey can you run out to the UPS Store and
- 1:18:20stop by because that that scan hasn't cleared yet?
- 1:18:26So, you know, people that are CA might have to run out there for
- 1:18:31some reason, it is just didn't clear, so you had to go out and
- 1:18:34get it. So yes, I would say, I don't
- 1:18:38know where it's in writing, but if but if it's a scam that has
- 1:18:42to be clearer than I would, I would definitely talk to your
- 1:18:45postmaster and your local and your local union representative
- 1:18:51about that. Having it having it added.
- 1:18:54It was I was just going to say the same thing it you know, if
- 1:18:57it is if there is a collection box scan that is required every
- 1:19:03day saying that you were there and collected the mail.
- 1:19:09Then it should be, it should be notated in the mapping.
- 1:19:14That's, you know, some way. And don't forget to get the
- 1:19:19Dismount distance to yes. Yes.
- 1:19:23Hopefully, it's already an authorized dismount.
- 1:19:27With and measured on how far from the truck to go in and get
- 1:19:33everything. Yeah, you have a lot of faith in
- 1:19:35management. I said, hopefully, I want to
- 1:19:39make sure you measure from your truck to where you drop the mail
- 1:19:43off to where you pick up the mail back to your truck for the
- 1:19:48authorized this mail. Don't scan it.
- 1:19:51One minute early, it doesn't count as a scan.
- 1:19:53Oh God, yes, just going to. I know I've had to sit at my
- 1:20:00blue. I've had to sit at my blood
- 1:20:02works for like two, three minutes a couple times.
- 1:20:04Yeah. All right, we got anything else.
- 1:20:08We want to touch on guys? Are we going to wind it down for
- 1:20:11the night? Only thing I would wanted to
- 1:20:15would add is look forward to a bonus light-hearted episode
- 1:20:23later this week. I've hopefully everyone will
- 1:20:27enjoy it and I will put out the caution that the language can be
- 1:20:33a little explicit at times. We have a couple special guests
- 1:20:37that we recorded a. I will put this out there.
- 1:20:41We recorded a little bit of a crossover episode with Damien
- 1:20:46and Sean from attempted delivery.
- 1:20:48I do believe we will be releasing that.
- 1:20:51I think we agreed on Wednesday since their podcast drops on
- 1:20:55Thursday morning. We Every be dropping that on
- 1:20:58Wednesday morning. So look forward to that, it was
- 1:21:02good. Like I said, I'm going to
- 1:21:04caution you language. May fly a little bit.
- 1:21:09Yeah, it was definitely a lot. And hope hopefully if you guys
- 1:21:16like what you heard on that episode, you'll actually find
- 1:21:22them and start listening to them and supporting them.
- 1:21:26Definitely, go check them out. That's attempted delivery.
- 1:21:29They are a couple roll, carrier brothers that are making their
- 1:21:36way into stand-up. Comedy open mic night, so it was
- 1:21:40really cool to finally, get a chance to talk to them.
- 1:21:42I will have to admit. It was a little bit of a weird
- 1:21:45fangirl moment because I'm so used to listening to them on
- 1:21:48Thursdays that actually talking to them was kind of like, oh,
- 1:21:52wow, this is cool. But hmm, That's what they said
- 1:21:57about you. It really will almost was they?
- 1:22:03Yeah. So I know they've mentioned us a
- 1:22:05couple times on their podcast and we've mentioned them a
- 1:22:07couple times now, but we will probably in the future.
- 1:22:11Eventually do something else with them as well, but look
- 1:22:13forward to that that'll just kind of be our midweek.
- 1:22:15Special on Wednesday. I will let you guys James and he
- 1:22:21last Thoughts Sammy commentaries.
- 1:22:27Yeah, make sure you subscribe to There's podcast, subscribe to
- 1:22:32ours. You know, this was a little bit
- 1:22:35different type of podcast that we normally do.
- 1:22:38You usually wear a lot less scripted than we were today, but
- 1:22:42a lot of that had to get out. A lot of that had to be brought
- 1:22:45up and we want to make sure that we cover.
- 1:22:48What people want to hear from us.
- 1:22:52Because that's what we're here for is, we're here for you guys.
- 1:22:56That's our whole goal in. This is just a reach out to our
- 1:22:58fellow brothers and sisters in the craft and no matter what
- 1:23:03we're here for you guys, people can say bad things about us
- 1:23:09anywhere they want, they can say, whatever they want about
- 1:23:12us, that's their right. They have the freedom of
- 1:23:15expression to do so, and we have the freedom of expression to
- 1:23:20bring information Nation to you guys on this podcast.
- 1:23:25We're not here, trying to circumvent anybody.
- 1:23:27We're not here. Trying to take away from
- 1:23:30anybody, we're trying to give and build up people.
- 1:23:36And if you take away, just one thing that you can talk with
- 1:23:38your fellow carriers about or your local union rep for your
- 1:23:42management about. Then we've done our job here,
- 1:23:46just one person. Does that I feel we've done our
- 1:23:48job. To thank you to each and every
- 1:23:51one of you that listens to us every time we post a podcast and
- 1:23:55be safe out there and take care of your fellow carrier.
- 1:23:59Josh following James is cinnamon, you know as long as
- 1:24:06We're making at least one person's life job easier.
- 1:24:13We're doing, we're doing what we set out to do.
- 1:24:17Don't get overwhelmed if you do. Step, take a step back.
- 1:24:21Take a deep breath. And step back in and get at it.
- 1:24:24Have a good week hike. Well, this is going to be a
- 1:24:28short week for me this week, Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, then.
- 1:24:31Thursday will be at mid states convention in Wichita, Kansas
- 1:24:37So, if you're in the 12th, if you're in one of the 12 State,
- 1:24:41well, even if you're not, I look forward to seeing, I believe, we
- 1:24:45have 230, people registered for mid states.
- 1:24:48Wow, looking forward to, to seeing you all there.
- 1:24:51Of course, national board members.
- 1:24:53The national board will be there for Q&A on Saturday.
- 1:24:58There's also going to be an address from someone from the
- 1:25:02Postal Service. On Saturday.
- 1:25:05So I'm looking forward to seeing what the national board and the
- 1:25:09in the USPS have to say about oh I don't know car wrecks.
- 1:25:16Maybe they are supposed to be implemented.
- 1:25:20Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:25:21It's supposed to be Saturday the day.
- 1:25:22It's supposed to go into effect so supposedly so we'll see if
- 1:25:27you're registered. I'm looking forward to seeing
- 1:25:29you there and if you're coming safe travels bill, Oh just to go
- 1:25:35back a little bit. You know, in regards is talking
- 1:25:38about people working off the clock.
- 1:25:41This bugs me because of the fact that, you know, if you work off
- 1:25:45the clock. Yeah.
- 1:25:46And you devalue your routes evaluation keep in mind.
- 1:25:50When you bid off that route, you're doing a disservice to the
- 1:25:53next carrier. And I think that's probably one
- 1:26:00of the things that irks me. The most is that you don't think
- 1:26:03Beyond yourself. And that's not the premise of
- 1:26:06the Union. The union is the think about the
- 1:26:10entirety, the entire craft, your office, your District.
- 1:26:16So don't do it. Don't work off the clock.
- 1:26:18Don't cheat yourself and don't check cheat the next guy in
- 1:26:21line. Okay, or girl, we're here giving
- 1:26:23our time freely Eve. And we're trying to educate the
- 1:26:28craft. We're trying to make management
- 1:26:31and the union no more responsible in regards to our
- 1:26:35concerns. And by offering this service,
- 1:26:39like you said, if we help one person, if we get to positive,
- 1:26:44you know, comments and we get some feedback, we have people
- 1:26:47asking questions. I mean, you know, it's showing
- 1:26:50the level involvement that people are actually starting to
- 1:26:53take seriously in regards to how there's been They pay is you
- 1:26:56know actually calculated I think that's the best part of this.
- 1:27:00This whole podcast is that we are getting people involved and
- 1:27:05with that, you know, make sure you go out do the job to the
- 1:27:07best of your ability. Don't cheat yourself, don't do
- 1:27:10anything outside. The guidelines that you feel
- 1:27:13comfortable with or outside and you know what management gives
- 1:27:15you written directions in regards to doing these say folks
- 1:27:20I do the best job you can at the end of the day, go home to your
- 1:27:23loved ones. And You know, God bless you all
- 1:27:27because, you know, this is a tough job and a tough time, for
- 1:27:31this craft and for the post office.
- 1:27:33So take care of yourselves. Get home to the people who care
- 1:27:37about you. Thank you Bill.
- 1:27:40It's going to be a short week for me as well.
- 1:27:43I am off tomorrow for celebration of life services for
- 1:27:46my daughter's grandfather and then I will be Tuesday and
- 1:27:51Wednesday running two routes as usual.
- 1:27:55And then Wednesday evening after work, I'm going to take off and
- 1:27:59downstate to my parents house. Spend the night, get up really,
- 1:28:01super early and hit the road about five a.m.
- 1:28:03Thursday to head to Wichita. So I know we have myself Mike
- 1:28:08and I do believe James is going to be making it down to Wichita.
- 1:28:11So we three of us will be at mid states.
- 1:28:14We look forward to meeting anybody.
- 1:28:17That's going to be there. That's a listener.
- 1:28:18That will be. That'll be fun.
- 1:28:21And on that note, I want everybody to stay safe this
- 1:28:24week. Safe travels, if you're
- 1:28:26traveling, stay safe out on the route and we will see you back
- 1:28:31next week. Well, technically, see him
- 1:28:35Wednesday when we post the joint with attempted delivery.
- 1:28:40So, we'll see you on Wednesday and then our normal time for a
- 1:28:43regular podcast. Well, don't forget to like,
- 1:28:46share and subscribe. Well, maybe I'll have to see
- 1:28:49what's going on Sunday because I probably will still be driving
- 1:28:52home. So we might have to change it
- 1:28:55up. We will get back to you on when
- 1:29:00the next official episode will be.
- 1:29:02Yeah, well Pope will post. If it's not on Sunday night or
- 1:29:08Monday on the page will post it on the page.
- 1:29:11We're not going to do their normal lunch date.
- 1:29:15We'll work it out amongst ourselves once we figured out
- 1:29:18because I just dawned on me, I will be driving, well, Plus
- 1:29:22hours on Sunday. So ya better way to talk with
- 1:29:28all of us. Now, we can talk to you all the
- 1:29:30way home. But anyways, everybody have a
- 1:29:36safe week and we'll see you next time.
- 1:29:41Bye-bye.
