- 0:00Hmm, that sounds Are you sure you don't have ADHD. I'm pretty sure
- 0:47I did get tested. It's just h Hi, welcome to book watchers.
- 0:57Great a intro here, ladies and Jens raid a good intro. You're doing
- 1:04great, We're doing great, honey, you're doing great. Thing. Uh
- 1:11I'm Devin. What's good is poppin'. And of course we got the one
- 1:17and only the six foot giant who's a butt face Jacob. Hi, Jacob,
- 1:25welcome, Welcome, welcome, blood face, sort of blood face.
- 1:30Well you would put a butt to your face, but as a terrible joke,
- 1:37you do it like one slap two about six times and suddenly it labeled
- 1:41for life. I mean, you'll call me a horse, and I'm labeled
- 1:46for life. It's only fair cutting all that part out and were Hi.
- 1:51Welcome the book watchers. We're here today doing stuff and saying things and gay
- 1:57shit, lots of gay shit, lots of gains, ship, lots of
- 2:01shi. Hey, how's it going? My name is Jacob's well yeah,
- 2:07yeah, wow wow, So what are we doing today? We just got
- 2:13off of the got off oh god, not the two vampires. That sounds
- 2:20so terrible. We did a vampire month. We got damn it. We
- 2:30just had the month of vampires, okay for October. And now what we're
- 2:35doing, what we're doing today, I can't. I can't speak today.
- 2:38I'm not talking today we're doing today. Yeah, you're just just myself a
- 2:42hole I'm saying. I'm just making digging a hole of myself. Yeah,
- 2:49just just stay just stay over there, I'll stay here. Looks pretty,
- 2:53yes, God, just look pretty. So today we are taking a step
- 3:00away from the vampires. Whether or not we go back to vampires will probably
- 3:07to be determined. Uh. Today we are gonna be talking about the other
- 3:12kind of Plassic monsters and Jacob's favorite thing, one of his favorite things ever.
- 3:22Yes, yes, yes, so like believe it or not, people
- 3:30believe it or not. Vampires are not my favorite type of monsters, all
- 3:35right, And aside from kaiju, my favorite type of classical monster is actually
- 3:40were wolves. And don't yes, Harry, I thought you want to like
- 3:46I thought you want? Are you going ill for you're the technical fucker over
- 3:50here? I am not. It's been established and well on multiple podcasts all
- 4:02under the Boy Please the Fifth and the United States, Thank you, leave
- 4:10me and the technical monsters alone, leave me in the Elder tors alone.
- 4:15Okay. Yeah, So anyway, so today I just wanted to do something
- 4:23a little different. The book we're reviewing today, it doesn't have it doesn't
- 4:29have a movie adaptation yet. I don't think it has an adaptation. You
- 4:34know, I probably should. I don't think it has an adaptation as of
- 4:39yet. Okay, yeah, no it doesn't. So the book we're going
- 4:47to be reviewing is a I think this is probably gonna be our first romance
- 4:55novel that we've done, and that got the bromances the romance. Oh no,
- 5:05it's not. I I know it's not. It's like I love this
- 5:09book anyway, the move. The book we are reviewing today is called Wolf's
- 5:14Song by TJ. Clinton. Gay. Yeah, it really is. It
- 5:21is. It is a gay romance novel. And yes, the romance is
- 5:29between a were wolf and a human. Yeah. So I just want to
- 5:40like put this out there that I have already, Like I actually just read
- 5:46this book, like I bought it earlier this past week. We're recording on
- 5:50a Sunday right now, and I bought it on I believe I bought it
- 5:54on a Monday, like this past Monday, and I spent the day the
- 6:00next day reading it, and by the end of that day I was finished.
- 6:05Damn. Yeah, so I only finished books within a day or so.
- 6:12If if it's not not only because it was short. This book is
- 6:15only like about home? Want is this book? This book is the edition
- 6:19I have, which is the kindle edition, only has five hundred and fifteen
- 6:23pages. But uh, the story just got me so hooked that I spent
- 6:30the entire day. I took the day off on Tuesday, this past Tuesday,
- 6:33and I spent that entire day reading this book. Like I seriously couldn't
- 6:39put it down. At one point I looked at the time. It was
- 6:42already mid like late afternoon, and I was like, oh shit, I
- 6:45was supposed to make food. Yeah, this this is the first book of
- 6:50six books by the way, six I thought, Yeah, the sex there's
- 7:00in this series, in this lovely series that you all soon hear about.
- 7:04You got Wolf Song, you got Raven Song, then you got love Song,
- 7:12Heart Song, Faral Song, Brother Song, and then as the last
- 7:19one that got released back in twenty twenty. So there's six books in total
- 7:27as of right now. Oh fun Fact BYJ and Yeah and since I started
- 7:39reading this book. I'm already on book three, of which is Heart Song.
- 7:45Yeah, I finished reading it. I believe it was either. Yeah,
- 7:51it was Tuesday night when I finished reading Wolf Song, and I just
- 7:58sat there just like a there's a phenomenon that some readers may get where they
- 8:03finish they finished reading a book that was so good that you just don't know
- 8:07what you're gonna do with your life until you find out there's another book in
- 8:11this series, and you're just like, so that's what I'm doing. I
- 8:16need more. I don't need sleep, I need answers. So I bought
- 8:22the second book, Raven's Song, and I read that in It took me
- 8:26a little bit longer to read that one because since I had to go,
- 8:30I went back to work. I was reading it every chance I got,
- 8:33and I finished it. I think Friday I finished it. And then I
- 8:37got the third book yesterday, like Friday night, and I started reading it
- 8:41yesterday work. And so now I am on Heart Song. Oh I'm sorry.
- 8:50Yeah, I'm on Heart Song book three, and I'm already how far
- 8:54am I in this book? Now? There's four hundred and forty nine pages
- 8:58in this book, and I'm already on page ninety three, oh, almost
- 9:03a quarter into the book. Yeah, so Wolf Song is all a part
- 9:13of the Green Creek Chronicles, and so it the story not just a Wolf
- 9:24Song, but pretty much all of the sequels, preceding all the preceding books.
- 9:30They center around a wolf, a werewolf pack, or a family of
- 9:35werewolves. They are the Bent Packed. So a little background about the Bennetts
- 9:41is that they are considered royalty among were wolves because they're their alpha is considered
- 9:50the alpha alphas because he is in charge of not just his own little pack,
- 9:58but every pack out there. And uh, there's just like there's As
- 10:03you read the books, you learn more about their dynamics, Like in every
- 10:07wolf pack there is a an alpha who is a leader, and then there
- 10:11are the betas who are just basically they're just like the normal werewolves. And
- 10:20there's omegas. But the thing about omegas is that they don't You only become
- 10:24an omega if you don't have a pat and uh, the story talks about
- 10:30how were wolves need something to anchor themselves, like a tether, like an
- 10:35emotional tether, and that's why werewolves have packs, because the pact anchors them.
- 10:41It keeps them in control. It keeps them from giving into their animalistic
- 10:46urges, so they don't go crazy. They don't go crazy and wolf out
- 10:50on people. And an omega is a wolf that, either by choice or
- 10:56by circumcertain circumstances, have lost their pact and they don't have an alpha or
- 11:03family to keep them from going you know, cuckoo. And over time in
- 11:09omega will lose their Omegas will lose their their's, their humanity and just completely
- 11:16wolf out. And they're basically like they're the The omegas are basically like the
- 11:22classical like feral werewolf goes around killing people and bloodthirsty. But in any case,
- 11:31the Bent family they left their home of Green Creek, I believe this
- 11:41is important, Green Creek, Oregon. And they had been gone for some
- 11:46like probably about let's say about good fifteen years, almost twenty years, and
- 11:56the story fall Fall. The story of Song follows is from the perspective of
- 12:03the main character. His name is ox Nerd Mathieson. Kind of I hate
- 12:09that name. I don't like it because it's like it's hard for me to
- 12:13pronounce, but I'm gonna uh for me. It's hard because it's I feel
- 12:18like I'm saying Ox Nerd, and I'm trying to say Ox Nerd, but
- 12:26I posted his name in the chat. That's that's how you spell his name.
- 12:31Yeah, but everybody, uh so, it's it follows from the perspective
- 12:35of a human boy named Ox Nerd math mathieson. Now everyone just calls him
- 12:41Ox. Now. The thing about Ox is that he is He comes from
- 12:50a very troubled family, so his dad was an alcoholic. He was also
- 12:56verbally and physically abusive. While his dad never raised a hand raised a hand
- 13:03against Ox, he had. His dad did used to beat his mother,
- 13:09although Ox never witnessed it. He suspected it, but he never witnessed it
- 13:13himself. When Ox was about twelve years old, because when the book starts
- 13:18out doesn't really tell you how old Ox is, but it's implied that he's
- 13:22very young. But when his dad finally walks out on his family, abandons
- 13:26him and his mom, Ox is about twelve years old. And the thing
- 13:31about Ox is that he's dealing. He does. He does deal with his
- 13:35own form of emotional trauma, and a lot of it comes from his dad
- 13:41because his dad would put him down a lot, call him like slow stupid,
- 13:46even at one point retarded saying he would tell him that you would always
- 13:50get shit for the rest of your life because how slow you are, and
- 13:54make allig like he would make references to the fact that because Ox is such
- 14:01a big kid, even at twelve, he was already like pretty big,
- 14:03like pretty like sizeable, pretty tall for his age, Like when he was
- 14:07six years old, people thought he was already twelve. His dad told him,
- 14:15would like make like would uh compare him to like what he was named
- 14:18after, like people call him, everyone calls Max. And he was like,
- 14:22yeah, you're just as slow as one too, So that's really fucked
- 14:26up. That's that's fucked up, Like like that saying shit to your own
- 14:31like that to your own son, that's fucked up. But the thing is
- 14:35is that what's really sad is that at that age Oxton know better. This
- 14:41was before he was old enough to really understand that that's just not normal.
- 14:46You know, your parents aren't supposed to say shit like that to you,
- 14:50And so for him it was normal. And he still loved his dad,
- 14:52and when his dad walked out, he actually wanted to go with him,
- 14:56but Guy left him behind, and of course gave him more words of wisdom
- 15:01quote unquote. By words of wisdom, I mean calling him slow and just
- 15:05like that, And I just felt I immediately felt like I immediately related to
- 15:16Ox because I've got I myself have experienced stuff like that before. For me,
- 15:22it was more from my brother than my parents. But I just felt
- 15:26like, oh my god, I feel for you, kid, I feel
- 15:28for you here. I've been there. It gets better, and it does,
- 15:33it does, it does so. Uh So Ox's dad before he left,
- 15:41used to work at a at a auto body shop and the owner of
- 15:46the shop a guy named Gordo. He takes a liking to. It's an
- 15:52Ox he always when he first met Ox, he was always very kind to
- 15:56him. Even though Gordo comes across as like this total asshole, you know,
- 16:03really gruff man, but Ox really looks up to him. Gordo access
- 16:07kind of becomes his uh, he becomes his fatherly figure to him and helps
- 16:14him out, helps him and his mom out after Ox's dad dips. At
- 16:18one point, Ox like not long after his dad leaves, he talks to
- 16:23Gordo asking Gordo if he could come work at the shop because Gordo and the
- 16:29other guys at the shop. Uh, they come to see Ox is like
- 16:36a like you know, like this as so they view Ox's family and Ox
- 16:44views them as family as well, and they taught him how to work on
- 16:48cars from a very young age. So Ox when he goes up to he
- 16:52goes to Gordo and asks him if he can have a job because since his
- 16:56dad left, they don't have they're not they don't have as much money anymore.
- 17:00Or his mom is struggling because she works as a waitress at a diner.
- 17:03And he pretty much begs him to give him a job so he can
- 17:07help his mom pay like ketch up on all the bills that have either gone
- 17:12the collections or are very behind on. And Gordo agrees to let him work.
- 17:21And of course this is all under the table because Ox is still twelve
- 17:25years old at this point, and he loans Gordo loans his Ox his mother
- 17:30the money. I think his mom's name is Maria. Let me look up
- 17:37the character's name, because he know me. I am terrible with names.
- 17:44Yep, yep, ye, I am terrible with names. I'm terrible with
- 17:48names. Let's see did to do? Where's the and no, I don't
- 18:00use Wikipedia, who I Almos said, let me look at Wikipedia, like,
- 18:06wait, no, I don't know, bad Jacob. You don't use
- 18:10Wikipedia. It's not a credible source. But uhlen Lee, okay, look
- 18:18at the actual book. Wrong book oo, wrong book again, future Devin
- 18:26edit this out or unless you want to leave this in first comedic effect,
- 18:29go for it and don't your ship. Uh uh, Gordo, my mom,
- 18:42do you know? Let me look at the table contents, because you
- 18:45know there's an index with all the names and shit like that, so page
- 18:53copyright dedication, the graph. Uh, I'm just gonna go to the beginning
- 19:06of the book because that's where all the names get thrown out there. Okay,
- 19:25well until his mom's name, Like, it'll hit me later when I
- 19:29don't really need it. I'm just we're just gonna be like, well,
- 19:32tonight, when we're playing D and D, you'll just hear me go,
- 19:33oh that's her name. Yeah, that's that's what I'm gonna remember it.
- 19:38That's what that's my name. That's her name. Yeah, I thought I
- 19:42thought, y'all he thought I forgot, but I didn't. But I totally
- 19:47did anyway. Uh So, yeah, so Gordo ends up leaping uh loaning
- 19:52UH Ox's mother some money to catch up on bills, and he agrees to
- 19:57let Ox work with it work for him for the next six months. Now,
- 20:03Ox suspected that he didn't actually work off all the money that was loan
- 20:07to his mom, But after six months of working with Gordo, Gordo just
- 20:14says, all right, you've paid your debt, you've paid your due.
- 20:18You don't owe me anything else. But Ox continues to work in the garage,
- 20:22uh pretty much for the rest of his life, because yeah, for
- 20:27Ox, that's just what he's good at. He's good at working on cars.
- 20:32He actually helps Gordo figure out newer merging technologies when it comes to auto
- 20:38body repairs, because now, like it's not like back in the eighties and
- 20:41nineties where you could just like listen to the engine and be like, all
- 20:45right, I know what's wrong with it. Now everything is more automated and
- 20:48shit, so like you got to do diagnostics and plug in the computer to
- 20:52the car to like check like what the system says and everything. And so
- 20:57Ox becomes an invio, He becomes an invaluable part of that body shop.
- 21:03Of course, being underage, he's being under the age of sixteen. He
- 21:08can't exactly legally work, so a lot of his work is done under the
- 21:12table and he works. So he continues working. Three years ago by,
- 21:22like three years go by, and on his sixteenth birthday, Gordo officially hires
- 21:27him as a member, like an official member of the crew, part time,
- 21:33of course, and as a gift to As a gift for Ox,
- 21:41he gives Ox a shirt. It's a uniform shirt with his name stitched on
- 21:47it. And this was such an emotional scene because growing up, Ox remembered
- 21:52his dad having a shirt like it with his own name embroidered on it,
- 21:56and he always thought for him that made his dad want like a very important
- 22:00person because like his name is on a stitched onto a shirt. Well,
- 22:03Gordo gave Ox some shirts with his own name stitched on it, and for
- 22:08Ox that was such an emotional moment because it made things more real, like
- 22:12he was now a part of a part of the crew of Gordo's shop,
- 22:19and it made him feel like he had worth, like he was valuable,
- 22:25like he was valued. And after the upbringing he had under his dad,
- 22:32his dad left him feeling like he did not have much self worth and it
- 22:37was so emotional. I was like, oh my god, stop it.
- 22:41I can't take it. Feelings, feels, all the feels. And also
- 22:52on his sixteenth birthday, no, no, only was he officially hired part
- 23:00of the crew, Gordo gave him a set of keys to the shop.
- 23:03And of course I've made him even happier because it made him feel more responsible.
- 23:08The thing now not long after this, actually this is on the same
- 23:15day. Where Ox lives. He lives out in the country. He lives
- 23:25out in the countryside. Green Creek is a mountain village. It is like
- 23:30a mountain community, so like it's where it's set is like in a mountain
- 23:36and is very forested area, so it's very rural. The population of this
- 23:41town is not very large. It's probably like a couple hundred people. And
- 23:47where Ox lived, his house was like way out in the country and in
- 23:52a very secluded area. And his house in the dirt road leading to his
- 23:56house not only led to his house, but a house not like a couple
- 24:03hundred feet down the road. This house for most of Ox's life had been
- 24:07empty. Every now and then he would see somebody up here like come to
- 24:11the house. But other than that it was empty until his sixteenth birthday,
- 24:17when an entire family of were wolves moved in. Now they moved in.
- 24:22He didn't know that the Bennett family were were wolves. He didn't know.
- 24:26He did notice that there was something strange about them, just how they acted
- 24:30and how they interacted with each other. It was pretty odd to him at
- 24:34first, but being who he is, he's never been one to like question
- 24:40things like, Okay, it's kind of odd, but whatever. So the
- 24:48Bennett pat the Bennett family moved into the house, and the way he finds
- 24:52out that they moved in was because usually whenever Ox comes home from school slash
- 24:56work, he walks down the dirt road leading to his house, and as
- 25:03he's walking down the dirt road, he runs into a boy, a little
- 25:08boy about ten years old. Like brought up a ballet the first description of
- 25:15the boy. So I'm just gonna go ahead and read you a little paragraph.
- 25:22You know, there was a boy standing in the dirt road watching me.
- 25:26His nose was twitching and his eyes were wide. They were blue and
- 25:30bright, short blonde hair, tan skin almost as much as mine. He
- 25:33was young and small, and I wondered if I was dreaming again, and
- 25:41after saying hello to the boy, the boy, the little this boy asking
- 25:48like starts asking him like a lot of questions. He's like very enamored with
- 25:52Ox because even at sixteen, Ox was a big kid. He was like
- 25:57already over six feet tall. And uh. First thing the kid asks him
- 26:06is like do you smell that? And Ox is like, uh, trees,
- 26:12I smell trees, He's like. And the little the boy is like
- 26:17no, no, no, no, it's something bigger. And then this
- 26:21child runs up to Ox and he immediately like climbs literally climbs up Ox.
- 26:27Like he just latches on and just climbs up to like climbs up him,
- 26:32and it's like looking at him, like examining him and everything and even sniffing
- 26:37him, and he's like that smells you. And Ox is like like super
- 26:41confused. He's just standing there. There's a ten year old child just climbing
- 26:45up him, and He's like, what is what's going on? What is
- 26:48this? And uh? This little kid is just like it is like like
- 26:56why do you smell so? Why do you smell like that? This is
- 26:59so weird. Where do you come from? Where's your house? Like I
- 27:04don't get it. What is this, and he and before Ox can't even
- 27:10say anything, he's like, we should we should go see my mom and
- 27:12dad. They'll know what this is. And he like jumps down and leads
- 27:18Ox further down the road. They passed by his house. Ox tells him
- 27:23they're like, yeah, that's where I live. And the boys like,
- 27:26cool, let's go to my house. And they go down to the other
- 27:27house and there they see There Ox sees the rest of the family. Uh,
- 27:34this boy who is introduced to be Joe Bennett. He has two older
- 27:41brothers. His oldest brother Carter, who was about the same age as Ox.
- 27:45He has an another older brother named Kelly. Kelly is younger than both
- 27:52Ox and h Carter. And then there is their parents, Elizabeth and Thomas
- 28:00Bennett. Thomas is as it's later revealed to be the alpha of their pact.
- 28:06And then Thomas's younger brother Mark. I just want to mention Ox actually
- 28:11had actually met Mark earlier in the book. This was at his mother's diner.
- 28:19Mark had been in town, had come into town to check up on
- 28:22the house and make sure that make sure everything's in place for them to move
- 28:26back. Because the Ben family, as I said before, they used to
- 28:30live in Green Creek, but decades ago they had to leave because of werewolf
- 28:37shit that will go into later, and they didn't they haven't been back since.
- 28:44They haven't really been back since, and now they're back in Green Creek
- 28:47and they're making it their home again. Ox is introduced to the whole family
- 28:52and while he's talking to while he's talking to them, Joe he's just going
- 28:59off. He's like, he's this like really energetic kid and uh, it's
- 29:08uh. Ox compares him to a little tornado. And while he's introduced to
- 29:18the Bennett family, he notices that they're looking not only at Joe and not
- 29:22only at him out of curiosity, but they're watching Joe like they're very shocked
- 29:27to see Joe act like they're very shocked to see Joe uh so energetic like
- 29:33this, and uh, Joe is going is going off, saying like like
- 29:41can't you like like I like, guys, can't she just got can't you
- 29:45smell him? Like he's like his smells so weird. It's so like it's
- 29:48like candy canes and pine cones and epic and awesome. And they all stared
- 29:55at him as if he'd come across something unexpected. H uh the Elizabeth,
- 30:03the uh Joe's mother. She starts to like she starts to she responds to
- 30:10him, but she sounds uncertain, like what like okay, uh yeah,
- 30:17candy canes, pine cones. That's very interesting. Uh so ox he gets
- 30:23he learns who they are, He tells them who he is, and he
- 30:30lets slip that that very day it's his sixteenth birthday, and Joe gets even
- 30:36more excited, like what like, oh it is your birthday, Hey,
- 30:37happy birthday. Like we need like I should get you something, and he's
- 30:42like that's not really necessary, it's just it's very I thought this scene was
- 30:47very cute because like this this little kid is like, you know, like
- 30:51some kids they really they really bond with like kids older than them, like
- 30:56the teen there's always that teenage. There's always that one teenager that seems to
- 31:02have like a kid that just really like latches onto them. But it's cute.
- 31:08I don't know what that. I don't know what that's called. But
- 31:11don't look at me weird. Okay, I don't English very well even though
- 31:15it's my first language. But yeah, So after getting acquainted with this new
- 31:25family, he goes home, he spends his birthday with his mom, and
- 31:32pretty much from here, this book has a lot of time skips, so
- 31:38Wolf's Song takes place over a period of ten years I'd say like ten to
- 31:47let's say about thirteen years, because from the point ox Is twelve, starts
- 31:51when Ox is twelve years old, and by the end of the book he
- 31:53is about twenty six, So this takes place over period of thirteen years,
- 32:00and ox Is now becomes a part of a new routine. He gets settled
- 32:07into a new routine. Every day from this point forward, he goes school,
- 32:14go to work, and then when he comes home, Joe is there,
- 32:17this little ten year old boy is waiting for him every day and he's
- 32:22always talking to He always talks to Ox. He's always bringing Ox home to
- 32:25his house, and Ox enjoys it. He's he's really he's starting to enjoy
- 32:30this because the Bennett family they welcome in, They welcome him into their home.
- 32:37They really enjoy having him there. He becomes friends with Carter and Kelly
- 32:40because he becomes more close friends with Carter and Kelly because they're closer to his
- 32:45age and they all start at the same school together. In fact, once
- 32:51the Bennett family starts school with him, Carter and Kelly immediately stick by Ox.
- 33:00They're always near him. They're always like almost like they're protecting him,
- 33:04like first first day, literally the first day Ox he was He's always been
- 33:09a bit of a loaner. He doesn't have many he doesn't have any friends
- 33:13really aside from the Bennetts, and when he gets to school, there are
- 33:16a few there are a few groups of kids that do bully him. And
- 33:20when one of these groups try to bully him, Carter and Kelly immediately jump
- 33:23on the guy and force the guy to apologize, which he does because they're
- 33:29literally being pinned down by two werewolves, but nobody knows that yet. Eventually,
- 33:36Ox let's uh, he lets it slip to Gordo at the shot that
- 33:42the Bennett family had moved in next door. And when Gordo heard about this,
- 33:46he let's just say, let's put it this way. He got upset,
- 33:52not at Ox, but at the fact that the Bennett family had returned,
- 33:57and he immediately warns Ox to stay away from them because they're bad news.
- 34:02And Ox is confused because, for one thing, he's been spending all
- 34:06this time with them, He's pretty much there every day. They invite him
- 34:08every week to their Sunday dinner because it's tradition. And he's like, they've
- 34:14been nothing but good to me. Why would I what's so bad about them?
- 34:17And Gordo doesn't really elaborate on what's what the issue with them are,
- 34:22and he does tell he does reveal a little bit about their family history,
- 34:31how they've been gone. They used to live here in Green Creek, long
- 34:36before your family moved in, and then and then one day they just up
- 34:40and left and the reason why they came back was because of certain extenuating circumstances,
- 34:46and those circumstances actually surround Joe, little ten year old Joe, and
- 34:52Ox was confused about this and he was like, why would I like,
- 34:55why would they need to come back because of Joe? And Gordo began telling
- 35:00him that something had happened to Joe, that the poor child had actually been
- 35:06kidnapped. And before Gordo can explain any further, uh, Ox stops him.
- 35:17He puts his foot down and says, no, I don't want to
- 35:21know, because for Ox he felt like this was not something that he should
- 35:24be hearing from Gordo. It doesn't sound like something he should be hearing at
- 35:29all, because it sounds like it's something It sended it to him like it
- 35:31was a very personal thing and if he if he's going to find out,
- 35:37it should be from the Bennett family themselves. And eventually he does find out,
- 35:46but he also finds out so much more about the Bennett family. So
- 35:53no, it wasn't too long after Gordo told him, told him what happened
- 36:00to Joe about the kidnapping, that the Bennett family. In the middle of
- 36:05the night, they they come to Ox's house. They call I'm sorry.
- 36:10They call Ox and ask him to come over. It's in the middle of
- 36:15the night, about three o'clock in the morning, and he's confused because it's
- 36:19like it's so late. What's going on? And they tell him it's Joe.
- 36:22Joe has been having night terrors and while they've they are prepared for his
- 36:30night terrors and they usually handle it themselves. This particular night, joe night's
- 36:37terror is really bad, and it seems like the only person who can calm
- 36:40him down is Ox because Joe is really bonded to has become really bonded to
- 36:45Ox. So Ox, without hesitation he gets up, he runs over to
- 36:50their house and he goes up to Joe's room and Joe immediately latches onto him
- 36:55and he's scared. He's terrified. His night terror was brought on by his
- 37:02his past trauma with the kidnapping. At this point, Ox hasn't found the
- 37:08entire doesn't know the entire story yet, but it doesn't matter to him.
- 37:13He's come to love Joe unconditionally like a little brother, and he stays the
- 37:19night with him, make sure and make sure that he's okay. And I
- 37:22thought that was really sweet because like for Ox, Joe is like it's just
- 37:25a he's a he's family now, and it's really and the and he also
- 37:31sees the Bennett fam the Bennett Pact as his family too, because they've really
- 37:37accepted him and they've helped him to see that he has so much more self
- 37:42worth and he's actually loved. Not that his mom doesn't do that for him,
- 37:47but the fact that he has other people reaffirming that for him is just
- 37:53something that made him feel makes him feel more accepted and more loved. And
- 37:58I love that something love that we see We start to see Ox throughout this
- 38:04book come out of his shell. He by the time he meets Joe,
- 38:08he's basically just surviving. He's just taking every day, every day, one
- 38:14step at a time. He's not actually living. And then he meets the
- 38:17Bennett family and now he has so much more in his life now. And
- 38:23I don't know what, toe that's a really I thought that was a really
- 38:25beautiful thing. Like I was just talking about like the impact that the benefit
- 38:30the Bennett family has had on Ox, Yeah, because his dad really ingrained
- 38:38in him that he doesn't have much self worth. Yeah, and meeting the
- 38:50Bennett family and the way they include him, you know, he sees him
- 38:53every day every day he comes back when he comes back from school slash work,
- 38:59Joe is there waiting for him on the dirt road and they walk back
- 39:04to their houses together. And every every Sunday, Ox is invited to their
- 39:10family dinner because it's a tradition for them to have family dinner every Sunday.
- 39:15And they make them feel as much a part of their family as they make
- 39:22them feel a part of the family. Yeah, and he just feels so
- 39:29much, so much more love now and support. And this book takes place
- 39:36over a ten year period and he really changed. He really comes out of
- 39:45his show. Did you hear the part where I was talking about how like,
- 39:52oh fuck, I got distracted, I lost my strength? Thought,
- 39:59okay, so you heard the part about where Ox had like he found out
- 40:09that he found out that Joe had been kidnapped before they moved back into Green
- 40:16Creek m M. And then Joe because of that, has night terrors.
- 40:22And this is when they were still kids, right, yeah, so Joe
- 40:28I think at this point, yeah, there's still kids. Joe's I think
- 40:30either like somewhere between ten and twelve at this point, like sometimes passed and
- 40:37uh, you know, one during one of his night's terrors, nothing that
- 40:43his parents could do would like shake him out of it. So they asked
- 40:45Ox to help him because he's gone. He's grown really attached to Ox,
- 40:51and Ox, without hesitation, comes over and I mean and calms him down,
- 40:57and he stays with Joe the rest of the nights to make sure he's
- 41:00okay. And for me personally, I thought this was so this is so
- 41:02beautiful because like you know, for Ox, he sees Joe as his little
- 41:07brother, and you know, it's just like he's found he's found his family
- 41:14and he still has his mom, and he loves his mom very much,
- 41:16but he found a new family too. Yeah, and it's I think it's
- 41:21just so great. So when it comes to the romance in this book,
- 41:34to the romantic aspect of this book, I I know, like when I
- 41:38was first reading it, I was thinking, like I knew immediately, like,
- 41:42Okay, Joe is going to be Oxford's Oxford's love interest. But I
- 41:49was a little concerned. I'm like, I seriously hope there's a time skip
- 41:52to where they're both legal adults. Yeah, emphasis on both, because I'm
- 41:59not sure how I feel about there being like teen romance, but because there
- 42:05is a clear six year age difference between the two of them. But thank
- 42:10god there I was right, there is an age there is time skit and
- 42:15all the time hallelujah. And by the time they they both actually get together,
- 42:21is Joe at this point is twenty years old and ox is twenty six.
- 42:25And some people would still some people would they'll say, like, oh
- 42:29man, that's such an age gap, Like not really, I don't think
- 42:34of it that way, because my own parents have a six year age difference
- 42:37between them. Yeah, So for me, like once they're once they're both
- 42:44legal adults. Age is just a number at that point, do whatever the
- 42:49hell you want it no matter. But when it comes through like Joe's relationship
- 42:57with Ox. So the thing is is that since Joe's a werewolf, werewolves
- 43:04have this thing where they can tell when they've met there the one mm hmm,
- 43:15the person that they're supposed to they're meant to be with for the rest
- 43:16of their lives. Because because where wolves are very instinctual, even when they're
- 43:22in their human forms, they have their sense of sight, all their senses
- 43:28are way sharper than humans, their sense of smell especially, and so that
- 43:36yeah, they know exactly who you're supposed to be with. Yeah, so
- 43:40with the with were wolves, they can smell it. So for them with
- 43:45if they meet somebody who has such a distinctive smell that it's not it's pretty
- 43:52much unlike anything that they've ever smelled before, or like it could be something
- 43:54that they have smelled before, but for this one person it's just so dis
- 44:00just so then then that at that point they know this is the person,
- 44:07they're the one. And well I mentioned earlier that Ox smelled to Joe.
- 44:13Ox smelled like pine cones, and Candy canes epic and awesome. It even
- 44:22at ten years old, he already knew that Ox was going to be that
- 44:25person, his mate. Yeah, And you can see it through the relationship
- 44:31UH for the next decade, how Joe views Ox. And at first Ox
- 44:37is pretty oblivious to it because for him is like, oh, Joe,
- 44:39he's just he's he's like my little brother, right. And though we can
- 44:45see that Joe does get jealous because Os does live his life, he does
- 44:52meet other people, and he had he has like several relationships throughout the course
- 44:58of the book. His first serious relationship is with a girl named Jesse m
- 45:05And for one thing, Jesse is the girl that Ox ends up losing his
- 45:08virginity to. They have like their relationship lasts for several years and they do
- 45:15eventually break up. But for Jesse, she was always like one thing that
- 45:21always uh bugged her was the fact that UH was the relationship between Ox and
- 45:31Joe. Now for Ox, to him, he didn't see anything wrong was
- 45:36wrong with it. To him, Joe was just to was based was his
- 45:38friend and like a like a brother to him. But she could clearly see
- 45:43how uh the only word I could think of to describe how Joe views books
- 45:52as something like possessive and jealous because like, like Joe never was, never
- 46:00really liked Jesse. When he found out that Jesse and Ox were dating,
- 46:04Joe was upset about it, but like, what can you do? You're
- 46:09like, at this point, you're like, what twelve, Yeah, and
- 46:16Joe is already like almost eighteen, so I'm sorry Oxes. Ox is almost
- 46:22eighteen. Joe's like twelve, So it's not nothing's gonna happen there, kid,
- 46:29uh, But they're Jesse's and an Ox's relationship does eventually end, and
- 46:39that's because by this point uh, Ox has already discovered what Joe and his
- 46:47family are, and he also discovers that his boss and slash father figure Gordo,
- 46:58is also not entirely human. So the way he finds out about all
- 47:04of this is it happens when Joe has his first shift into a were wolf.
- 47:09So when a were wolf hits puberty, they begin they have their first
- 47:16shift, and Joe is about twelve years old when he has his first shift.
- 47:22The think about the thing is though, because of how because of the
- 47:24things that Joe experienced with the kidnapping, it severely traumatized him, and it
- 47:30made it difficult for him to go to experience his first shift. So when
- 47:32he begins to shift into his wolf form for the very first time, it's
- 47:37just not really sticking, like he's starting to shift, and he's caught in
- 47:42this like painful in between of where he's like shifting partially into a wolf,
- 47:46but he can't shift fully because, like I said, were wolves need something
- 47:52to like some form of emotional tether to anchor them to their humanity. And
- 47:59usually in a werewolf pack, the alpha is that tet is that tether,
- 48:04it's what hold the alpha is what holds everybody together. But for whatever reason,
- 48:07his dad, who is the alpha, is not able to actually like,
- 48:13is not able to help him. So as the last resort, they
- 48:17call Gordo. And because Gordo, as it turns out, is a witch
- 48:24who and yep, and the thing is witches and worlds, they do have
- 48:30a mutual relationship with each other. So some wolf packs will have a witch
- 48:37become a part of their pact, and the witch, of course provides things
- 48:44like protection and support when it comes to other supernatural matters. And Gordo originally
- 48:52was supposed to be the witch for the Bent Pact. That's a whole nother
- 48:58story that we'll get into later. But because of certain unfortunate reasons, when
- 49:05the Bennett Packed left Green Creek, they had to leave Gordo behind. And
- 49:08when they left Gordo behind, he was only fifteen. Now he's nearly forty,
- 49:15so you can imagine what would happen to a fifteen year old when he's
- 49:17abandoned by people that are basically his family. So Gordos he has a lot
- 49:25of resentment towards the Bennett Packed, especially Thomas the Alpha, but when they
- 49:32ask him to help with their son, Joe, he of course he comes
- 49:37to help them, but nothing he does with his magic can Nash is doing
- 49:43anything to help Joe fully shift into his warwolf form, and this is during
- 49:49a full moon, so he can't. It's not like you could just say,
- 49:51okay, well, I'm gonna stop shifting and go back to human.
- 49:53No, the full moon is compelling him to transform, so he's stuck in
- 49:58this in between it and it's very painful for him. So as an even
- 50:00more last resort, they finally decide let's let's bring in Ox because Joe clearly
- 50:08has a Joe has a has really bonded with Ox and Oxes is the only
- 50:15person that can really ground him, so they get so. Gordo gets Ox
- 50:20and tells him that Joe's that Joe needs his help, and before Ox can
- 50:25go help go to help him, Gordo tells him that he needs to be
- 50:30prepared for what he's about to see because the Bennett family and himself they're not
- 50:36normal, and he reveals that they are werewolves. And when he questions how,
- 50:42When Ox questions how Gordo is a part of this, Gordo tells him
- 50:45that he is a witch. The thing about Gordo to explain, to describe
- 50:50how he looks, He looks at us like a regular man, but he's
- 50:52covered. He has a bunch of tattoos on his arm, like different aren't
- 50:58like a spools sleeve, tattoos of like like rosevines, rosebuds, and ravens,
- 51:07and there are a few other things like rooms. There's like a torch
- 51:10and a few other there's a few other tattoos. These tattoos act as a
- 51:15form of arcane focus for him, so that's how he's able to focus his
- 51:19magic. And they also shift and move around. Now of course, ox
- 51:23has always known about them. He's seen the tattoos before, but when he
- 51:28sees them that night, he sees how they're glowing and how they're shifting.
- 51:30He realizes this is like it's real, but either way to him, it
- 51:37doesn't matter. Joe needs his help, so he goes to so Gordo leads
- 51:42him deeper into the forest to a clearing where the werewolves were congregated. He
- 51:46sees his extended his adoptive family in their wolf forms, and then he sees
- 51:53Joe himself, who's stuck in this like half transformed state. By his presence
- 52:00alone, UH Ox is able to help UH Joe transform. Joe is able
- 52:08to finally able to find that tether and connect with Ox and is able to
- 52:16fully shift into his work, into his warrel form now in his wolf.
- 52:22In his wolf form, Joe looks is just a pure white wolf. Now.
- 52:25The rest of his family they share similar attributes, like they're all white,
- 52:31but they all have like patterns like like like black spots or streaks on
- 52:37them, while Joe himself is just a pure white wolf. Mhm. So
- 52:43now Oxes realizes that he's been basically adopted into a werewolf family, mm hmm,
- 52:52and he he knows their secrets now. He understands them better now,
- 52:55and uh, it makes sense because some of the things that they do have
- 53:00all have always stuck out to them, like like aside from being very affectionate
- 53:07with each other, like they're always hugging each other, pressing up against each
- 53:10other. Nothing like sexual, but like you know, they're very like they're
- 53:20very intimate. I guess, you say, yeah, and he realizes that's
- 53:24because as were wolves, they tend to they like physical contact because for one
- 53:30thing, it helps because were wolves are very scent base, like they rely
- 53:35on their sense of smell more than sight and anything else. They like to
- 53:39when they're with their packed and with others they're close, they're closer to they
- 53:44like to make sure that they're scent is on each other because it brings them
- 53:50comfort. I guess it brings them comfort. So like, yeah, so
- 53:52whenever they go into like new places, they tend to touch things and they
- 53:55tend to like put their hands on the walls because they're trying to leave their
- 53:58scent behind and make it more comfortable for them, you know, like I
- 54:02guess, like knowing that their scent is there, like it's brings that sense
- 54:06of familiarity, right uh yeah, where wolves were wolves, So I love
- 54:20them, I like, I just love the dynamic between this family. Ox
- 54:25does also learn he finally learns from Thomas the Alpha Josephull story because Ox uh
- 54:36spend some time, will often spend quality time with Thomas, and Thomas reveals
- 54:42to him the full story behind Joe and why the packs left their uh left
- 54:49Green Creek in the first place. So it goes back decades, so a
- 54:55long time ago. I'd say about I think a little over seventeen years.
- 55:01At this point, the Bennett Pact used to be much bigger. It had
- 55:09more family. There were more families and more people as a part of the
- 55:15as part of that family. And the problem with werewolves is that werewolves are
- 55:27often target become target practice for hunters. So there are hunters in this in
- 55:35the Green Creek chronicles, and at one point there was a massive attack on
- 55:44the Bennett home. Hunters came and they killed dozens of werewolves and other and
- 55:50even regular people. Because because the Bennet packed and other werewolf packs, they
- 55:53will often include humans into their packs, welcome humans and their pats, and
- 56:01these hunters they ended up killing dozens of werewolves, you know, men,
- 56:07women, and children alike, and the survivor the survivors which really only encompassed
- 56:15the central Bennett family that we know now, so like Thomas, his wife
- 56:20Elizabeth, his brother, his brother Mark, and even Gordo because back then
- 56:27Gordo was still a part of the pact. They were pretty much the only
- 56:30survivors aside from a couple others. And there was one survivor of that attack,
- 56:37a guy named Richard Collins. Richard Collins was a werewolf and a close
- 56:46pact member of the Bennett family, and when those hunters attacked, they ended
- 56:51up killing his his his own close family, his parents, his siblings,
- 56:55they killed them all, and because of that, Richard ended up losing sight
- 57:02of his tether and break and cuts ties with the Bennett family. And as
- 57:08a result of this, he goes rogue and he ends up killing people,
- 57:15and at one point he tries to kill Thomas, who had at the time
- 57:21just became the alpha the Bennett Pact because he wants to be in alpha and
- 57:24he wants to run things. So because of everything that happened, the Bennett
- 57:32family had to leave Green Creek and go to some packed owned lands out on
- 57:39the east coast in Maine. When they left their original they were originally going
- 57:49to take Gordo with them because Gordo was a part of their pact and he
- 57:52was their witch. But the thing is is that a lot of were wolves
- 57:58and other packs are deeply mistrustful of humans, and after the Hunters attacked the
- 58:06Hunters attacked the Benettact, they're deeply mistrustful even then, and they're especially mistrustful
- 58:13of Gordo, not because Gordo is a witch, but because of who he's
- 58:16related to. So before Gordo became the official Pact which he that title was
- 58:27used to belong to his father. And the thing is witches like where wolves
- 58:31need an emotional tether to help them stay in control and basically remember who they
- 58:40are as humans. And his dad, his dad, I'm just gonna put
- 58:49this out there, wasn't exactly the greatest guy. He was. You don't
- 58:58actually learn much about him until the second book. But from what I learned
- 59:01about his dad is that he is not exactly He's a pretty self centered man.
- 59:13He's traditional, and he's also paranoid like. While the wolves value their
- 59:20witches and they and they believe that witches and war and wolves need each other.
- 59:27His dad, even as they're packed witch, didn't believe that. He's
- 59:30like, they need us, we don't need them, and his traditional ideals
- 59:37put some really negative ideas into his son's mind and also left him emotionally damaged
- 59:43as well. But at one point his father was married. Not only was
- 59:52he was married first of all to Gordo's mother, who was just a normal
- 59:55human, but he began having an affair with an woman. And the thing
- 1:00:00is is that witches, like I said, need an emotional tether, and
- 1:00:04he made that woman his emotional tether. And Gordo's own mother was already beginning
- 1:00:12to have develop mental disabilities of her own, and she became very paranoid and
- 1:00:22very mistrustful of anything supernatural, like the werewolves and the witches. And she
- 1:00:25actually tried to kidnap Grido when he was like about twelve years old and get
- 1:00:30him away from all that. But his father's put a stop to it.
- 1:00:34And I think, doesn't it exactly say what he did what he did with
- 1:00:39her. He ends up sending her away, and he moves Grdo closer to
- 1:00:46the pack. But at the end of everything. His wife ends up having
- 1:00:52a mental breakdown and she ends up murdering the woman that he was having an
- 1:00:57affair with, and because that woman was his emotional tether, it caused his
- 1:01:06dad to snap, and his dad ends up lashing out with his magic,
- 1:01:10killing not only Gordo's mother, but sixteen other people. He ends up basically
- 1:01:17he levels a small neighborhood. That's what he ends up doing with his magic,
- 1:01:23and because of that, the Bennett Packed as well as the other werewolves,
- 1:01:27have to call in more witches. They arrest him, and they strip
- 1:01:31him of his magic and imprison him. And because they had to do all
- 1:01:36that, Gordo was forced to become the Packed Witch at age twelve. So
- 1:01:40it was a very trying time for Gordo. He's basically an orphan at this
- 1:01:45point, and while he considers the Bennett Packed his family, it was still
- 1:01:50very trying for him. But when the Bennett Packed realizes they need to leave
- 1:02:00Green Creek in the aftermath of the Hunter attack, the Thomas faces the issue
- 1:02:08that he can that he's gonna get a lot of pushback from the other wolf
- 1:02:14packs because of his because of Gordo, because of what his father did,
- 1:02:21no one really, A lot of other people believe that Gordo will be the
- 1:02:23same thing, will end up doing the same thing. So Thomas ends up
- 1:02:30leaving Gordo behind in Green Creek, and Gordo was only fifteen at that time.
- 1:02:37So as a result, Gordo over the next decade and a half grows
- 1:02:43to resent the Bennett Packs and wearwbls in general and doesn't really want anything to
- 1:02:49do with them, which is heartbreaking because he is actually, he actually was
- 1:02:54meant to be the mate of Mark, Thomas's younger brother. So that all
- 1:03:06happens, and the thing back to go back to the issue of the other
- 1:03:09Werewolf Richard Collins, because Richard had was going was losing control of himself and
- 1:03:19becoming a rage monster. About a year a little over a year before the
- 1:03:25Bennett Pack returns to Green Creek, Richard kidnapped Joe. He had Joe for
- 1:03:35set about seven to eight weeks, and during that time he would torture Joe.
- 1:03:47He and what's fucked up is that he was doing it to hurt Thomas
- 1:03:52because he was trying to get back at Thomas, because he holds Thomas and
- 1:03:55the Benet Pack responsible for the Hunter attack, and he would call Thomas's phone,
- 1:04:04and as he's talking and as he was threatening and making and taunting Thomas,
- 1:04:11he would start torturing Joe. He would break his fingers, he would
- 1:04:16break his leg bones, he would cut him up with his claws. And
- 1:04:21his fam his family could hear him crying over the phone, and that's why
- 1:04:27Joe was so by the time he meets Ox, he was already very traumatized.
- 1:04:34Now they did manage to find Joe and rescue him, but for the
- 1:04:41next fifteen months after rescuing him, Joe couldn't Joe refuse to speak. He
- 1:04:47was so traumatized that he wouldn't speak at all. And Thomas finally makes a
- 1:04:55decision to return to Green Creek because for him, Green Creek is home.
- 1:05:00That's where his Pact has put their roots down for generations. They've been there
- 1:05:04for hundreds of years, so it's his territory, it's his home. He
- 1:05:11decides, I think the best thing for our family now that everything with Richard
- 1:05:15has been settled, because after they not long after they found Joe, they
- 1:05:21did manage to capture Richard and they locked him away. So after everything was
- 1:05:30settled, they Thomas was like, all right, let's go home. My
- 1:05:36son has been severe. My son has been so much harm was done to
- 1:05:41my son. I think the best thing for all of our family, for
- 1:05:45the whole family, is to just go home, finally go home. So
- 1:05:48that's why they moved back to Green Creek. And the very day that they
- 1:05:53moved back into their home was the day that Joe spoke for the first time
- 1:05:58in over a year, and that was when he met Ox than done done.
- 1:06:03So, as you can see, the Bennett family they really think that
- 1:06:11Ox is a very special person. And he is all right, he's slow
- 1:06:15to speak, he doesn't really do well with words, but he even when
- 1:06:21he even when Mark met him for the first time before the Bennett family officially
- 1:06:26moved back, Mark knew something was there was something special about Ox. And
- 1:06:30throughout as the story progresses, we see more and more of them, We
- 1:06:38see Ox come more, come out of his shell more. Uh there.
- 1:06:43Once he finds out that the Bennetts are werewolves, he becomes so much closer
- 1:06:46to them because he now understands them and he realizes that they they consider him
- 1:06:55a part of their pact, and it's just such He's just filled, he's
- 1:07:00realizing. He comes to realize that his life is now is filled with so
- 1:07:04much love and support that it's almost too much for him at times. He
- 1:07:10comes to he eventually comes to see Thomas as his father because the time he
- 1:07:16spends with Thomas and his family, he realizes that Thomas has taken on that
- 1:07:20role of a fatherly figure. Now Gordo still considered is still somewhat of a
- 1:07:26fatherly figure. And he also realizes that Gordo had made had made him his
- 1:07:31emotional tether. So and the way he did that was when it wasn't really
- 1:07:39on purpose, it just kind of happened. But when Gordo gave Ox his
- 1:07:45own official work shirt with his name and bordered in it, that created that
- 1:07:48emotional tether between him and Ox. So even though Gordo still resents the Bennett
- 1:07:57family, he cares very deeply for Ox because Ox is still in his emotional
- 1:08:00tether. So some there there's Ox has become a bridge between him between the
- 1:08:08Bennett family and Gordo. Gordo's uh from time now helps the Bennett family more
- 1:08:15and more, but he but he bitches about it the whole time. UH.
- 1:08:19We've seen more of Ox's various relationships. After he breaks up with Jesse,
- 1:08:28he has several other relationships. He graduates high school, he begins exploring
- 1:08:35his gay side because Ox is bisexual. It's established in this book pretty quickly
- 1:08:44that he's bisexual. Mm hmmm, I'm getting to that. We're getting to
- 1:08:53that. So I just want to talk. So I just want to point
- 1:08:57something out. When Ox first met Jesse, Jesse was actually the little sister
- 1:09:02of one of the mechanics in the shop he works at. And when he
- 1:09:06first meets her, he Chris, her older brother, brings her to the
- 1:09:11shop, and when he meets her, he is so smitten with her that
- 1:09:15he becomes this blushing mess and he turns into a total klutz. H So,
- 1:09:21imagine this big old galoot of a guy, like seventeen years old,
- 1:09:28and he's just like falling head over heels for this girl, and he became
- 1:09:31he starts losing his control of his hand eye coordination, he trips all over
- 1:09:35the place, he drops tools, he's he's just like he's a mess.
- 1:09:42This poor boy turns into a mess. And I think that I was reading
- 1:09:45that part and I was like, Oh, that's cute. He's smitten,
- 1:09:47that's adorable. And relatable because that happens to me too. Yeah. Like
- 1:09:54yeah, anyway, so several years pass, Like I said, he graduates
- 1:10:01high school and he works, He goes to work at the body shop full
- 1:10:05time. His adoptive brothers, Kelly and Carter. They began doing their own
- 1:10:12things, taking uh, going going to college, ah and everything. Joe
- 1:10:19is every time. So every time Ox has like a like a small like
- 1:10:27a relationship or a small flame, Joe being a werewolf, can smell can
- 1:10:32smell it. He can smell it. Uh. Every time Ox you know
- 1:10:42has a thing, Yeah, yeah, he can smell it, and he
- 1:10:48gets very jealous and sometimes not really want to talk to Ox for for days.
- 1:10:56And at first Ox like Ox doesn't really seem an issue with it.
- 1:11:00He's confused, but he's like, Okay, well Joe will be Joe.
- 1:11:03I guess now we're starting at this point, we're gonna start seeing more of
- 1:11:13their relationship beginning to grow in a romantic sense. There are several times where
- 1:11:20Ox proves himself to be very like where we can there are several things that
- 1:11:25happen. The very first thing that we see that indicate a romantic relationship,
- 1:11:31which is kind of like it's very sweet because when Joe was still about ten
- 1:11:40years old. It was not long after. It was not very long after
- 1:11:45Ox's birthday, which was sixteenth birthday, which is when Joe first meets him.
- 1:11:50Joe gives Ox a present of his own, and the present that he
- 1:11:56gives Ox is a little stone wolf. It's a carved wolf. The way
- 1:12:02it's described is like it's sitting unsconscious, its head is thrown back a mid
- 1:12:06how, and it's very detailed. It's ornately carved, and it's a it's
- 1:12:15a beautiful gift if you could, if you could just I'm able to picture
- 1:12:18things like that very easily, and uh so I'm just imagining this like little
- 1:12:28stone wolf, and I'm like, oh, that's a that's actually a really
- 1:12:30cool gift. But it's not until later that we learned the significance of that
- 1:12:34stone wolf. So that wolf. So every were wolf when they are born,
- 1:12:43their alpha will give them a little stone wolf, a carved stone wolf,
- 1:12:49like a little totem. And in with within werewolf culture, if you
- 1:12:59find the one person that you are meant to be with your mate, it's
- 1:13:03tradition to give your little stone wolf to that person. MM hmm, it's
- 1:13:09a promise. It's a promise gift. Mark. Yeah. Mark actually gave
- 1:13:15his stone Wolf to Gordo a long time ago, although because of everything that
- 1:13:18happened, Gordo ended up giving it back. But we'll go into that later.
- 1:13:24I know sad and Joe gives his two Ox and Ox loved it.
- 1:13:30He thought it was very sweet and he but he didn't understand the significance of
- 1:13:32it yet and he won't for a long time, which is good because I
- 1:13:40could, I'd be I would have problems if it happened way sooner. But
- 1:13:48when the So that's the first hint of other other romantic relationship. Joe gives
- 1:13:57Ox the wolf, and other time is from time to time omegas, which
- 1:14:05are rogue where wolves were wolves that don't have a pact and are giving in
- 1:14:11give and have given into their instinctual urges. They will from time to time
- 1:14:16attack like they will invade a packs territory and they just go crazy. And
- 1:14:26at one point some omegas actually attack the Bennett's home and while they defend themselves
- 1:14:34easily enough, one attacks Ox and he manages to defend himself and he and
- 1:14:40Joe actually work together and they end up killing the wolf together. And I
- 1:14:45think like at this point, Like, so Joe is sixteen at this point
- 1:14:49and Ox is already twenty twenty two, and we can see like that it's
- 1:14:58not really so much of a romant antic thing, but we can see how
- 1:15:01close they're getting. Yeah, like they're willing, they're willing to die for
- 1:15:05each other, Like they're willing to jump into a fight for each other.
- 1:15:09Yeah, so it's not so I'd say less than a year later. Hm.
- 1:15:19At this point, Joe is seventeen and Ox is a few months away
- 1:15:27from turning twenty three. It's a Sunday. They're having their traditional Sunday dinner
- 1:15:38there or they're about to Ox every Sunday. He likes to help Elizabeth in
- 1:15:44the kitchen, but she needs him to do anything, He'll do it.
- 1:15:46Mix this, toss the salad, get ingredients from the pantry or the garden.
- 1:15:51He'll do it. What what what? What I just hear? What
- 1:16:00did you hear? I don't know if I should repeat it, just send
- 1:16:08it out? What did you hear? Host the salad? Shut the fuck
- 1:16:15up? No? Like literally no, literally, like he if she needs
- 1:16:23you know, that's what they say when you're mixing it. Bade, get
- 1:16:30your head out of the gutter. God, damn it. It's like it's
- 1:16:36not it's gonna get into the gutter anyway. But this is not the point
- 1:16:41for you to put your head in the gutter. Okay, we're not there
- 1:16:45yet. I swear to God. I swear to God. God like he
- 1:17:04didn't me too so much. I didn't mean too I didn't do that,
- 1:17:11And I'm like what anyway, So moving on, continue, Continue. It's
- 1:17:23been established long before this that Devin has a gut her mind. I do
- 1:17:27I have I have roasted in the gutter? Yes, he does, so.
- 1:17:31Yeah, so this happened. So this next scene happens during one of
- 1:17:34their Sunday dinners. Joe does note that what happens next is not was not
- 1:17:44something that was not a gradual thing. Mm hmm, well wait, that's
- 1:17:48a lie. He didn't know it was a gradual thing. But it must
- 1:17:53have. It had to have been, because it it's the only thing that
- 1:17:57explained the cosmic explosion that was the feeling of want and need and mind mind
- 1:18:00mine. The force of this, the force of it was ridiculous. It
- 1:18:04had to have been there for a long time. So this part is hilarious,
- 1:18:10It's cute. It had me rolling. I was literally just like when
- 1:18:15I read this scene, I was dying. I was I was living.
- 1:18:21I was dying. I was just making these little like excited slash hilarious noises
- 1:18:28like god, O my god, fuck, like oh Jesus, this poor
- 1:18:33boy, Oh my god. Yeah. Yeah so too. Yeah. So
- 1:18:41when you made me, when you literally made me read that part, yes,
- 1:18:46I went off. Like when I got to the scene, I was
- 1:18:48texting Devin here just like the bisexual panic. I'm living for this book.
- 1:18:56Yeah, because right around the time Joe is seventeen and Ox is about to
- 1:19:01turn twenty three, Ox has this moment where he realizes that Joe is no
- 1:19:06longer a little is no longer that little boy that would wait for him in
- 1:19:11the dirt road every day. Yeah, Joe is uh, he's grown up,
- 1:19:18grown man, grown man, and uh, let's see here, go
- 1:19:27ahead. And so the day that this happens, yeah, this is like
- 1:19:43I said, It was a Sunday, and uh, Ox was at the
- 1:19:49Bennett house helping Elizabeth make put everything together, and then she h Elizabeth asks
- 1:20:00Uh if he could get some tomatoes out of the garden. So he goes
- 1:20:05into the backyard to where their garden is and picks some tomatoes. And he
- 1:20:09hasn't he has a good armful of tomatoes. And while he was out there,
- 1:20:15just as he was about to go back into the house, his adoptive
- 1:20:17brothers, Joe, Carter and Kelly. Uh, they were just coming out
- 1:20:21of the woods. They had just gone for a run. And uh when
- 1:20:28he sees them, he sees them just being brothers, laughing, pushing each
- 1:20:32other around, and he realizes he loves he loves He realizes he loves all
- 1:20:38of them. There's family, yeah, except except to see. So he
- 1:20:51notices Joe is wearing a pair of uh, low slung shorts. That's the
- 1:20:58exact wording in this book. M h just the smallest of things. Mm
- 1:21:03hmmm. And there it was, and that was dudes. Yeah yeah.
- 1:21:10Uh. He realizes Joe is now almost as big as he is. So
- 1:21:15ox, like I said, is a big guy. He's like over six
- 1:21:16week tall. They never say he's exact height. I'm assuming he's over like
- 1:21:21six foot five. And now Joe is almost his height. They were close
- 1:21:28to eye level, and he realizes that like Joe, girl, just like
- 1:21:43just the way like he's just like this scene is being described, I was
- 1:21:45losing my ship because it was like, uh, you know, he notices
- 1:21:50how much Joe has filled out. He's very athletic, muscular, he's pretty
- 1:21:56broad. And as Joe and his brothers are walking out of the forest,
- 1:22:03he kind of turns a bit and Ox notices the He saw the dimples above
- 1:22:11his ass, the way his legs flexed and everything, and he looked,
- 1:22:18I'm just gonna I'm just gonna read this, read it. I'm just gonna
- 1:22:23read this part. So he was almost as big as I was. Now
- 1:22:27we were eye level or so closed that it didn't matter, which put him
- 1:22:30a couple of inches over six feet. There was a sheen of sweat over
- 1:22:34his torso, splattering of wet blonde hair is curling on his chest that looked
- 1:22:39to be cut out of granite, soft definition of muscles on his stomach,
- 1:22:44a line of sweat that hit his happy trail and soaked into the waist span
- 1:22:47of his shorts. I feel weird. This is a seventeen year old.
- 1:22:55Oh god, but I was trust me, people, nothing happens, nothing
- 1:23:00happens until much later, until they're until they're both much older. So yeah,
- 1:23:06he turned saying something back to Carter, and I saw the dimples above
- 1:23:12his ass That got me. I was rolling, like the way his legs
- 1:23:16flex I know. I was like, oh, oh, okay, this
- 1:23:23is gas fuck. This is the way his legs flexed and shift and shifted
- 1:23:27as he hopped from one foot to the other. He pointed wildly at something
- 1:23:30back in the woods, and there was a blue vein that stuck out along
- 1:23:33his bicep, and I wanted to trace it with my fingers because when did
- 1:23:38that happen? Oh, and those hands, those big fucking hands, and
- 1:23:43I Joe had grown up and somehow I hadn't really seen it until it was
- 1:23:50on full display right in front of me. He must have seen me out
- 1:23:55of the corner of his eyes. He turned and grinned at me, and
- 1:23:59it was Joe. But it was Joe, so naturally. That's when I
- 1:24:03walked into the side of the house. This poor boy literally walked into the
- 1:24:12side of the house. This part right here, I was dying. I
- 1:24:15was like, no, oh, my god. The tomatoes in my hands
- 1:24:24crushed against me. My head hit the wood siding, and I thought,
- 1:24:28oh shit. I stepped back from the house. Bits of tomato fell in
- 1:24:31the grass. Damn it. I felt my face flushing as I looked back
- 1:24:36at the Bennett brothers. They all stood there watching me with concerned expressions on
- 1:24:41their face. On their faces, What the hell, carterirass, You know
- 1:24:45there's a house right there, right It's been there pretty much forever, I
- 1:24:50said, with my voice dropping lower. I couldn't even stop it. Hey,
- 1:24:55guys, what's up? Just tomatoes. I crossed my arms over my
- 1:25:02chest and got tomato on them. I went to lane against the house,
- 1:25:06but I was further away than I thought and fell into the dirt. I
- 1:25:12was just like, oh, this poor boy, this poor guy. Mm
- 1:25:16hmmm. Yeah. So Joe took a step towards me, and his stomach
- 1:25:23muscles were flexing, and the low base of the low base heat of want
- 1:25:28roared through me, and I remembered werewolves can smell it, and I took
- 1:25:30a step back in absolute horror. Hey, I said again, and my
- 1:25:33voice was breaking. I cleared my throat and tried again. Hey, so
- 1:25:38there's a thing that I have to look at in my house before dinner.
- 1:25:45Now they were all looking at me weirdly. They couldn't smell my immoral raging
- 1:25:48lest yet or whatever it was my feelings that I couldn't be having. Joe
- 1:25:54took another step towards me, and he had pecs, he had a chest
- 1:25:59that was just it was just very nice and it gave me ideas. And
- 1:26:02I said, whoa there, cowboy, and kicked myself internally for such bullshit.
- 1:26:10No, I'm just like, I was just lit. I was rolling.
- 1:26:14This scene got me so hard. I was like, this poor man,
- 1:26:19oh now, And I was thinking this scene also got me like,
- 1:26:27Okay, he's seventeen. We can't be like doing that. They can't be
- 1:26:31doing that. Ah. But I just have to remind myself it's okay.
- 1:26:39They don't get together. They don't actually do anything together until they're much older.
- 1:26:45Okay, and this is like this. That's my only complaint with this
- 1:26:53is just how young Joe is. M But I have topreciate the fact that
- 1:27:00they do wait, that there is a time there's more of times. There's
- 1:27:03a huge time skip where they do spend some time apart from each other.
- 1:27:10And when Joe returns, he is twenty years old, he's matured, and
- 1:27:15you know, this is where things can actually kick off where they can actually
- 1:27:19be together, and I appreciate that. I'm like, Okay, thank god,
- 1:27:24thank you, because I don't think i'd be able to finish reading this
- 1:27:27book if he started dating a seventeen year old. Yeah, but I mean
- 1:27:32there So when so Joe does come to realize that Ox is now starting to
- 1:27:40feel something for him, you know, start is starting to feel attracted to
- 1:27:45him. And that's another scene that was really funny because like his older brothers
- 1:27:53realize it first and they're like, oh my god, I can't believe it.
- 1:27:57Like Carter especially begins giving Joe a lot of shit, a lot of
- 1:28:00shit for it, not like like, oh my god, I'm a chilly
- 1:28:03for uh for lusting after my brother. No, it's more of all like,
- 1:28:08oh, this is the greatest thing to ever happen in the history of
- 1:28:11ever. And Joe tries to when Joe realizes that Ox is feeling the same,
- 1:28:20is feeling that way towards him, because Joe is known for years that
- 1:28:25he is in love with with ox m and he's even tried to drop hints
- 1:28:30like hey, I love you. Oh no, it's not nothing that direct,
- 1:28:39but like subtle and uh. Now he knows now that he knows,
- 1:28:45and they also The Benett family also explains to Ox the significance of the stone
- 1:28:50wolf that Joe gave him, and Ox makes it clear he sets boundaries like
- 1:28:57we can't. You're you're seventeen, you still need to graduate high school,
- 1:29:00you still need to live all right, go live your life. And of
- 1:29:08course Joe bites it. He as a werewolf. Were Wolves age differently and
- 1:29:15they view they for them like an adult is they're viewed as an adult at
- 1:29:24a different age. Mm hmm. So to him this is completely normal,
- 1:29:30but Ox of course sets his boundaries. They do go on a quote unquote
- 1:29:34date together, stopped for dinner, like just to like spend time to together.
- 1:29:42They run into some people that they know and it's embarrassing all around,
- 1:29:45and it's kind of overwhelms Joe. Uh So they end up leaving. And
- 1:29:54so we're coming up to this, uh to the point in the story where
- 1:29:59the next major time skip is going to happen. Now I say time skip,
- 1:30:04but it's just really like we still see things happening. It's not like,
- 1:30:10okay, three years later, and then it starts off from a different
- 1:30:13point. So there's a series of events that lead up to it. The
- 1:30:21first thing, the first major thing, is they learned that two very powerful
- 1:30:27and very dangerous individuals have escaped from captive from their captivity, Richard Collins,
- 1:30:36the rogue werewolf that had kidnapped and tortured Joe, had escaped his prison.
- 1:30:44And Gordo's father, a witch who had lost control of his powers and murdered
- 1:30:50dozens of people, had also escaped from his own magical prison and somehow managed
- 1:30:56to regain his own magic because when he was arrested, other witches came together
- 1:31:03and they stripped him of his magic. So somehow he managed to regain his
- 1:31:11magical abilities, and it was believed that it was Orto's father. I think
- 1:31:19his name is what was his father's name? Okay, you know what,
- 1:31:29let me pull up my other notes. Let's see Richard Collins. So Richard
- 1:31:46Collins was the name of the Also, while you're looking for the notes,
- 1:31:58what was I gonna say? How much more of the book is there?
- 1:32:10So we're a little bit over halfway through the book at this point. Why
- 1:32:14no, because I know you wanted to make them before we played. That's
- 1:32:18right, it's already, it's already gonna be six ship. Yeah, you
- 1:32:23know that's fine. I'm gonna just go get food. I was gonna make
- 1:32:27food, but I might as well just go get well. I need to
- 1:32:30make I need to make so what we can do well, Cortel, we
- 1:32:34need to pause it now. We don't have to posit like right now about
- 1:32:39sex o'clock. I'm mon, need to pause it. We can always try
- 1:32:43to finish this. Tomorrow be over, Okay, we'll figure something out.
- 1:32:47Uh you know, I think I can think we can finish the book.
- 1:32:51I really wanted to just talk more about the book itself. A natural plot,
- 1:32:55uh huh so uh So from here we do get more into the times
- 1:33:02the time skip. They find out that Gordo's father of rogue Witch and Richard
- 1:33:08Collins the rogue where Wolf escape their prisons, and at first the Bennett Pack,
- 1:33:14they decide they while they are very concerned, they decide that the best,
- 1:33:17the safest place for them is right here in Green Creek. So they
- 1:33:21get God, they get Gordo to help them, and they make sure that
- 1:33:26the wards that are protecting their territory are completely set and unbreakable. But unfortunately
- 1:33:35it's not enough, because not long after this, Richard Collins does invade their
- 1:33:41territory with Gordo's father's felt, God, what's his fucking name? I literally
- 1:33:47had his name? Well, let meet some book two. I know that
- 1:34:06Robert that's his name. So yep, so Robert Livingstone Gordo's father. He
- 1:34:17uh used, he uses his magic to conceal himself and uh Richard the rogue
- 1:34:29werewolf. They and Richard, along along with a small band of other Omega
- 1:34:34werewolves uh invade the Bennett Pax territory and they kidnap Ox's mother. They hold
- 1:34:45her hostage and uh when Ox comes up comes across them because they were about
- 1:34:54to have their traditional Sunday dinner his mother. Uh. He told his mother
- 1:34:59about the werewolves a long time ago, so she's now also a part of
- 1:35:02the pact. And the day that they were this day they were going to
- 1:35:09have their traditional Sunday dinner and his mom needed to go back to their own
- 1:35:15house to pick up some stuff. But it was just something like a quick
- 1:35:19back and forth. But Ox realized she's been gone longer than he would have
- 1:35:26expected her to be gone, so he decides to go back to their house
- 1:35:29and see if she's okay. He gets there, he finds that it's He
- 1:35:33finds four other werewolves Omega werewolves, including Richard Collins, and Richard, had
- 1:35:44taken her hostage, and he begins making threats He's He tells him that he
- 1:35:48wants Thomas, and he wants Ox to lead Thomas away from his pack so
- 1:35:54that way Richard can get at him. Because when it kills another, when
- 1:35:59a werewolf kills an alpha, that werewolf becomes an alpha. That kind of
- 1:36:01deal, and Richard has all he wants to become an alpha so he can
- 1:36:06run things his way, and he wanted to do it using Thomas. Now
- 1:36:15Richard makes his threats. Ox is caught between a rock and a hard place
- 1:36:20because he's now has to make a choice either give up his adoptive father or
- 1:36:28lose his mother. And before he can make this decision, though, his
- 1:36:32mom, God, his mom is a badass. She's so brave. She
- 1:36:39manages to cause a scuffle with the with the Omegas because she wanted to give
- 1:36:47Ox a chance to run away, but unfortunately, when she does that,
- 1:36:55Richard kills her. Yeah, so Richard kills his mom and Ox. He
- 1:37:02runs from the house and he calls out to the were wolves. They they
- 1:37:06arrive as quickly as they can, but unfortunately Richard gets away for the time
- 1:37:13being. Yeah, they chase. They end up chasing him into the forest
- 1:37:19and it's then that they are surrounded by dozens of Omega wolves. They don't
- 1:37:28know how these Omegas manage to get into the house, get into their territory
- 1:37:30without setting off the wards, but they don't have much time to think about
- 1:37:34it. After exchanging words with Thomas, Richard and his Omegas attack the pack.
- 1:37:41They do everything they can to defend themselves, and they do end up
- 1:37:45uh and in the end, the Bennett pack comes out on top. Because
- 1:37:49Omega wolves, they're uncoordinated and they're feral, so they don't work together as
- 1:37:57a team like a packed like an actual pack to werewolves would being led by
- 1:38:01an alpha. Unfortunately, the Omegas focused their attack on Thomas as the alpha,
- 1:38:10and they severely weaken him and Richard tries to kill him to take on
- 1:38:16the role of alpha, but Ox comes to his defense and manages to get
- 1:38:23Thomas away from Richard. Richard, I can't believe I read that. Don't
- 1:38:33look at the don't look at the chat that killed my train of thought.
- 1:38:39I'm know I'm trying to fake finish like speed this up. Uh. Yeah,
- 1:38:44so anyway, John uh So. Ox manages to temporarily uh he temporarily
- 1:38:51gets Thomas away from from Richard. M hm. Thomas. He's severely injured
- 1:39:00at this point and he can't heal. He won't be able to recover,
- 1:39:05and he tells Ox that he needs somebody to take on the role of alpha.
- 1:39:11That way. Richard doesn't and he tries to convince Ox to let him
- 1:39:15turn into to let Thomas turn him into a werewolf, and he wants Tom.
- 1:39:19He wants Ox to kill him so that way Richard can't get to his
- 1:39:26werewolf gets uh, can't become the alpha. Yeah. But Ox doesn't get
- 1:39:31a chance to make a decision. His first thought is hell, no,
- 1:39:34it's not going to do that, but then Richard ended up tracking them down
- 1:39:39and attacks. Thomas defends himself, but he's so badly weakened that he gets
- 1:39:44struck down by Tom by Richard. But before Richard can deal a killing blow,
- 1:39:48Ox again steps in and wax Richard on the head with a rock and
- 1:39:56Richard turns it. Yeah. Richard turns his attention to Ox and tries to
- 1:40:00attack him but that's when Joe jumps in and attacks Uh. He manages to
- 1:40:04fend off Richard for the time being, and once the attack is once Richard
- 1:40:11and the Omegas are repelled, they turn their they turn back their attention back
- 1:40:16to Thomas. And Thomas unfortunately is so badly injured that he's going to die,
- 1:40:21and he tells his son he needs to do it, he needs to
- 1:40:26take he needs to take on the role of alpha, or else Richard will
- 1:40:29become or else Richard may end up coming back to take it. So Joe
- 1:40:38the only way, Like there are different ways for an alpha for a wolf
- 1:40:43to become an alpha, like there's a way for one alpha to transfer their
- 1:40:47title and power to another werewolf, because being in alpha is more than just
- 1:40:51a title. Like when you're in alpha, you are in alpha. It's
- 1:40:59not just a word, it's an actual thing. And so in order for
- 1:41:04a werewealth to become an alpha, they either can do the quick and ease,
- 1:41:09the quick and not so easy way, and that is to kill another
- 1:41:13alpha and take on their power becoming an alpha, or that alpha can transfer
- 1:41:20their power to you. Now that takes time and energy, which Thomas unfortunately
- 1:41:28no longer had so Joe was forced to kill his own father and taking the
- 1:41:35role of alpha for himself. Oh yeah, So it's a very sad scene
- 1:41:44because Joe was forced to kill his dad to take on the alpha role.
- 1:41:54And this all happened within the same night Ox's mother was murdered. Their packed
- 1:42:00is attacked by dozens of omegas and Thomas dies. Now immediately after this,
- 1:42:08after they've had time to calm down and regroup, Joe reveals that he wants
- 1:42:15to go after Richard. But the thing is is that he wants to do
- 1:42:20it alone, or rather with a small group. He doesn't want to take
- 1:42:26the whole pack. He just wants to go take a small team and chase
- 1:42:29down Richard, and Ox is opposed to this completely. He begs him to
- 1:42:35stay because one thing, his mother is just literally just died and they just
- 1:42:46about they were just like this was a few days after the attack, and
- 1:42:53he was just about to bury his mom, Thomas. A cover story was
- 1:42:57made for Thomas's death, so nobody really knows he's dead just yet. His
- 1:43:00mom, his his wife Elizabeth, was going to release an obituary and announce
- 1:43:06his death later, but Ox is still dealing with the fallout of his mom's
- 1:43:15death, and he's realizing already that he does care for Joe much more,
- 1:43:20and now that Joe is leaving him, he's like, he feels lost,
- 1:43:24and he's like, I can't do this without you and needs you here.
- 1:43:27We all need you here. But Joe is adamant about tracking down Richard because
- 1:43:32Richard has already done so much damage to his family. You know, he
- 1:43:36kidnapped and tortured Joe when he was just a kid, and now he killed
- 1:43:41his Uh, he's responsible for his dad's death. So Joe ends up taking
- 1:43:46Gordo and his two brothers, Carter and Kelly. They end up leaving Green
- 1:43:54Creek and for the next three years they spend their time chasing down Richard.
- 1:44:04Now in that time, Ox does begin to resent. He begins to resent
- 1:44:10Joe because he's still he's dealing with his own grief because he lost two of
- 1:44:16his parental two of the most important parental figures in his life. Mm hmm,
- 1:44:21yeah, his adoptive father and his his mother, and the pact that
- 1:44:29he's been that he's become a part of has been cut in half with especially
- 1:44:35especially since Joe left. So for the next three years. Ox spends that
- 1:44:43time pretty much picking up the pieces of his of this picking up the pieces
- 1:44:48of their family. He brings his wolf family back together. He's there to
- 1:44:54support his adoptive mother Elizabeth, his friend mar because those are the only two
- 1:45:01wolves left after his brother after the Yeah, because after Joe and his brother's
- 1:45:08leave, there's only two other wolves, so they're the only two left from
- 1:45:11the pack. But their pat ends up growing even more because Ox. As
- 1:45:17a way of fighting both Gordo and Joe for leaving, he tells he tells
- 1:45:26the guys at his body shop the truth about wolves and about Gordo mm hmm.
- 1:45:31And he even tells his ex girlfriend Jesse the truth. But he was
- 1:45:36he actually was forced to do that with her because he finds out that some
- 1:45:43omegas that were following Richard they had captured her when she left the town to
- 1:45:48go visit some friends out of town, and so he ends up rescuing her.
- 1:45:54She finds out the truth about were wolves and realizes like, oh,
- 1:45:57it makes so much more sense now, you and Joe, that whole dynamic
- 1:46:00you two have, it makes so much sense. Werewolves fucking werewolves and uh
- 1:46:10so they're packed grows more, Jesse and the three mechanics from the body from
- 1:46:16Gordo's body shop. Now those three guys, they're hilarious, Chris, Tanner
- 1:46:20and Rico. They're actually they're actually Gordo's oldest friends. I think is Gordo
- 1:46:27never told them about the fact that he's a witch and that he were and
- 1:46:30that there are werewolves in Green Creek. He wanted to keep them out of
- 1:46:32the loop because you know, they were the one normal thing he had in
- 1:46:35his life aside from Ox. Yeah, and uh, Ox ends up ends
- 1:46:42up telling them as a way of like getting back at Gardo, like,
- 1:46:45you know what, fuck this guy he left us behind. Hey, guys,
- 1:46:47guess what, Gordo's a witch and there and these and these guys over
- 1:46:54here are werewolves. So over time, with Jesse, Tanner, Chris,
- 1:47:00and Rico joining the pact as humans they're not werewolves, Ox realizes that he's
- 1:47:10created a whole new pack with him, the three, the four Stooges,
- 1:47:14and the two other werewolves. Well three because the third werewolf ends up coming
- 1:47:18to town. This guy guy named Robbie. He was sent by the interim
- 1:47:26alpha of Alpha's Alpha Hughes. So, like I said, before the Bennett
- 1:47:31Pact are like royalty. Their alpha is the alpha of all wolf packs,
- 1:47:36not just their own, and Thomas was the one was originally that alpha,
- 1:47:45but when he died and Joe took his place, Joe didn't formally accept the
- 1:47:47role of alpha of Alpha's just the alpha of his pact, of his own
- 1:47:53little pact. So and for the time being, the other packs appointed another
- 1:47:58alpha to be that to take on that role until Joe was ready. And
- 1:48:02since there's a whole lot of bureaucracy involved in needing to wanting to keep in
- 1:48:08touch and uh keep track of all the packs she sent, she ends up
- 1:48:12sending a wolf, a werewolf representative to the Bennett Pack to keep tabs on
- 1:48:17them. And that's who Robbie is, uh now Robbie. He describes himself
- 1:48:24as a bit of a drifter because he's not he's not fully a part of
- 1:48:28anyone packed. But over time, over the next three years that he spends
- 1:48:32with the Bennett PA, with the Bennett Packed, he ends up deciding to
- 1:48:38just settle down with them, and he becomes a part of Ox's new path.
- 1:48:42And when I say Ox's new path, I mean Ox. For some
- 1:48:45reason, Ox somehow becomes a human alpha like he actually gets the powers of
- 1:48:56an alpha like other will the so like in it's not just like it's it's
- 1:49:01not just something that affects his the werewolves in his pact, but it also
- 1:49:04affects other werewolves too, like when Robbie shows up, he's not an official
- 1:49:10member of the pact, but he's already looking at but when he first meets
- 1:49:14Ox, he was like, wait, I thought the alpha was gone.
- 1:49:16What who's this guy? Yeah? And Ox Ox slowly realizes that the other
- 1:49:24werewolves like began looking at him as if he was the alpha, and quickly
- 1:49:30becomes apparent when he fight when more Omegas attack their home and capture more innocent
- 1:49:38people. When Ox goes to fight them, the Omegas are terrified of him
- 1:49:42because they realize, wait, this human's in alpha what the fuck? Like
- 1:49:49he's actually controlling the other werewolves because one thing about alpha's their power allows them
- 1:49:56to control where the wolves of their packed and no, who yeah, it
- 1:50:00kind of cool, actually it is. Uh. Now, there are different
- 1:50:04physical differences between an alpha beta and omega's, like especially their eyes. So
- 1:50:12like when a when a were wolf normal werewolves that are part of a pat
- 1:50:17their eyes naturally turn into like a golden Halloween colored eye colored so like think
- 1:50:24like a bright orange m hm. And Omega's eyes turn violet. So if
- 1:50:32you see a werewolf with violent eyes, uh, it's a feral wolf right
- 1:50:36there. And Alpha and alpha werewolf's eyes are red like a blood red.
- 1:50:45Now Ox doesn't have that, but he's seen in clear and via clearly as
- 1:50:50an Alpha. At one point, about two and a half years after Joe
- 1:50:58left, a guy comes into town and tries to talk to Ox about Joe,
- 1:51:06and he tells it's revealed that this guy, a man named David King,
- 1:51:12was actually a part of a clan of hunters, or at least he
- 1:51:17used to be. In fact, he was part of the very clan of
- 1:51:21hunters that attacked Green Creek decades ago. So huh ooh ooh yeah uh.
- 1:51:35Ox may or may not have dropped the dude on his ass, because as
- 1:51:40soon as he mentions Joe, he immediately thinks that the guy had ill intentions
- 1:51:44and like drops him. But the guy's like, wait, no, I
- 1:51:45come in peace. Uh. Because at this point, Joe used to keep
- 1:51:51in contact with Ox. They would text him from burner phones. Let him
- 1:51:56know he's okay and what's going on. But at one point, like about
- 1:51:59two years into their after like their second year, Joe, wanting to focus
- 1:52:03more on his hunt for Richard, stops contacting, like goes completely radio silence,
- 1:52:13and Ox at this point hasn't heard anything from him from him. And
- 1:52:17then this guy shows up says, hey, I have a message from Joe
- 1:52:21and messages not yet, that's all the message was not yet. Now this
- 1:52:30infuriates Ox because he's at this point he's he misses Joe terribly and he's pissed
- 1:52:36at him for a bent for leaving them for so long. But either way,
- 1:52:43another six months pass. Six months pass before they hear anything about Joe,
- 1:52:47and at this point this is when Joe actually comes home. So the
- 1:52:55words that Gordo had placed around the packs territory, Ox being the new alpha
- 1:53:04of the territory, can feel it because now since he's so deeply connected to
- 1:53:10where it's the wolves now and the magic and the magic that surrounds them,
- 1:53:14he can feel the He can sense the words that Gordo put in place,
- 1:53:19and so he feels when a small group of individuals enter their territory and as
- 1:53:26it turns out it's there. It's Joe, and the it's Joe his brothers
- 1:53:30in Gordo. Now, when Ox sees Joe for the first time, he
- 1:53:36realizes, oh, he's grown. He's really grown into himself, because Joe
- 1:53:43looks way more mature. He looks like he doesn't look like a gangly teenager
- 1:53:45anymore. He looks like an actual adult. He's more, he's filled out,
- 1:53:51more and more muscular, and same thing with his brothers. Carter and
- 1:53:59Kelly both look like They all basically came back looking like rough biker dudes.
- 1:54:06And even though they returned, they realized that the Pact has become two separate
- 1:54:14entities, the Pact under Joe and the Pact under Uh the Pack under Ox.
- 1:54:21So even though like yeah, Elizabeth and Marker are happy to see their
- 1:54:28family again, they're still part of Ox's new pact and they defer to Ox
- 1:54:31as the alpha, while Kelly, Carter, and even Gordo they look to
- 1:54:35Joe as the alpha. So the two alphas and two different groups. Now.
- 1:54:42Yeah, so there's a bit of the next few months are rough for
- 1:54:45all of them because one everyone is pitt is understandably upset with the with Joe
- 1:54:51and the rest of his pact that left because well they left, and they've
- 1:54:56been gone for three years with hardly any contact. And and the thing is
- 1:55:00the reason why they came back was because it was not only because they couldn't
- 1:55:03find Richard, like they would get close to finding him, but he would
- 1:55:06always slip through their fingers. But what drove Joe to finally come back to
- 1:55:13Green Creek was when he came across the dead corpse of David King, the
- 1:55:18hunter he sent to Green Creek to send the message, to give the message
- 1:55:21to Ox. So when he found that the guy had been murdered, and
- 1:55:26he knew the guy had been murdered by Richard, he decides it's time to
- 1:55:30come home because where the guy was murdered was very close to Green Creek.
- 1:55:36That meant Richard was not far away. So yeah, Richard does eventually attack
- 1:55:49them again. Next few months are filled with everyone trying to the two packs
- 1:55:58trying to come back together under one banner. And it's an oddity, to
- 1:56:02say the least, because there's two alphas. Now that's not that's not common.
- 1:56:08There are no it's typically just one alpha per pact. But now we
- 1:56:12have one packed, or at least half two halves of pack trying to come
- 1:56:15back together. But they're coming back together under the banner of two wolves,
- 1:56:19of two alpha werewolves, well two alphas. Ox does and Oxen his side
- 1:56:29of the back of the pack do end up mending things with Joe's half of
- 1:56:34the pact. He meant, he makes amends with Gardo first, because Gordo,
- 1:56:42he's known Gordo the longest and he's the only person he has left that's
- 1:56:46like a father to him. Uh. He also ends up making amends with
- 1:56:54Carter and Kelly because those two they're more direct. They were more direct about
- 1:56:58it. They basically just picked They basically kidnapped Ox and you know, they
- 1:57:05hashed it out, they got they got ship. They needed to stay off
- 1:57:09their chests, Ox especially, and then they made up. Yeah, but
- 1:57:15Ox was still really mad at Joe. Yeah, it's funny. Yeah he
- 1:57:19should be because they were all going through a lot, and you know,
- 1:57:26Ox was just coming was at the time, just coming to terms of the
- 1:57:30fact that he cares about Joe and in a much deeper way. And Joe
- 1:57:33left and he was basically alone and had to pick up the pieces. So
- 1:57:40he's Eventually he finally does reconcile with Joe, and you know, they admit
- 1:57:47their feelings for each Well, Joe has always been trump like, has always
- 1:57:51been open about how he felt about Ox, but Ox actually admits it to
- 1:57:57Joe that he loves him, and I was just like, oh he said
- 1:58:01it, finally, yeah, and then everything changed from the fire Nation attacked.
- 1:58:16Oh god. Well, you know, when you think about it,
- 1:58:19what happens next is basically that, like, that's basically what happens next,
- 1:58:25because Richard he returns, and he does and he does funck some shit up.
- 1:58:31The thing is though, because Richard, because Bordeo managed to place stronger
- 1:58:38wards around the territory, Richard can't enter the can't enter green Creek, so
- 1:58:43he has to he has to resort to subtlety and you know, fuckery.
- 1:58:49So what he ends up doing is he ends up waiting for several residents of
- 1:58:56Green Creek to leave the town and they would he would catch them. We
- 1:59:00caught about So he kidnapped about six people and he calls up Ox and he
- 1:59:06tells Ox, here's what you're gonna do. You're gonna you're not gonna tell
- 1:59:13your pact anything you're just gonna get up and walk away and we're gonna talk.
- 1:59:16So and if you don't, I'll kill the people I have. I'll
- 1:59:21start killing the people I've taken. And like you get, you really realize,
- 1:59:26you get a real sense of how deranged Richard is because he's completely out
- 1:59:30of his mind. So Ox listens to what he has to say. Uh.
- 1:59:36Richard tells Ox that he wants him now. He doesn't want Joe.
- 1:59:41He wants Ox because Joe being a full blown, full like a fully fledged
- 1:59:46alpha with all everything included the extra strength, strength and abilities, he has
- 1:59:51all of that. But Ox, even though he's an Alpha, he does
- 1:59:56not have any of those werewolf abilities, other werewolf abilities. So to Richard,
- 2:00:00he's just he's just a weak human and he really looks down on humans.
- 2:00:06Uh. So he tells Ox that he needs to come to this place
- 2:00:14outside of the Wards and they're going and he's going to give himself up to
- 2:00:18Richard so Richard can take the alpha power from him. And if he does
- 2:00:23that, he'll let he'll let the he'll let his hostages go and he won't
- 2:00:27and he won't ever bother the Bennett packed again. And yeah, but Ox
- 2:00:34didn't want to risk it. So it's very heartbreaking because of course it happens
- 2:00:41on there on a Sunday, just before they're about to have their their traditional
- 2:00:46dinner, of course because it's tradition. And afterwards, like he had,
- 2:00:56he had to pretty much lie to them like everything's fine. He doesn't tell
- 2:01:00him anything, but once he knows that everyone is the Once the day is
- 2:01:06over and everyone's gone to sleep, he sneaks out of the house. He
- 2:01:12has an interaction with Gordo and Gordo meet of course, being the sassy queen
- 2:01:16he is, they ever a paranoid queen he is. He sent he senses
- 2:01:21somethings up, even though Ox tells him everything's fine. Ox drives out of
- 2:01:27the town and meets up with Richard, and Richard has the cost the hostages
- 2:01:34there and he tells Ox and he needs to give himself up, and so
- 2:01:40Ox does, but before Richard can do anything, Gordo, who had followed
- 2:01:46Ox to the meeting point, attacks and he separates Richard from Ox. Ox
- 2:01:54manages to free the hostages and tells him to get back head back to town
- 2:02:00well within the safety of the Wards and uh So in this book, Ox
- 2:02:06was given a silver weapon because were wolves are are affected by silver in this
- 2:02:13so he has a silver plated crowbar and he eases it to defend himself every
- 2:02:18time he fights the werewolf, and he manages to get in a good few
- 2:02:21hit hits on h Richard and his omegas that he had with him, but
- 2:02:29he knows that he can't beat him because Richard is a ah is a menace
- 2:02:38and uh so, Richard ends up chasing Ox over this old wooden bridge.
- 2:02:45It's very rickety, very near collapsing, and uh Ox goes him and manages
- 2:02:53to trap him on the bridge and because oxen is because and his omegas were
- 2:03:00like running up all over the bridge, it begins to collapse. Ox barely
- 2:03:05makes it out of there. The thing is, when Ox was when the
- 2:03:14con when the whole thing, the confrontation started, everybody, the rest of
- 2:03:18his pack could sense his fear because they're all they're all emotionally connected like that.
- 2:03:24So when Ox, when they sensed Ox's fear and that he was under
- 2:03:28duress, the rest of the pack that he left behind immediately was alerted to
- 2:03:33it and they come running, including Joe, and Joe is like frantic because
- 2:03:39he also suspects he suspected something, and he followed uh. He also followed
- 2:03:44Ox to the meeting point, but he was further behind than Gordo. So
- 2:03:48just as soon as Joe arrives, that's when the bridge collapses on Richard and
- 2:03:54his omegas and Ox. At first things it's over. It's finally over,
- 2:03:59like Richard's dead. Could he managed to He managed to gank Richard with the
- 2:04:03with his silver crowbar mm hmm. But when Ox's back was turned, Richard
- 2:04:13jumps out of the uh out of the river that the bridge collapse in,
- 2:04:17and he he base. He he stabs uh Ox in the stomach with his
- 2:04:29claws. Yep, and for a brief moment, Richard becomes an alpha because
- 2:04:39since Ox was a human, was an actual alpha and every and everything but
- 2:04:43the werewolf turn Richard actually becomes an alpha for just the briefest of moments.
- 2:04:49And then Joe, seeing the man he loved, his mate being eviscerated by
- 2:04:57a rogue werewolf, literally rips off Richard's head. Oh yeah, finally,
- 2:05:04finally, after decades of trying to become in alpha, Richard Collins became an
- 2:05:10alpha. And then Joe set off damn but it's not over. Ox is
- 2:05:20very close to dying, but in desperation, Joe bites Ox and turns him
- 2:05:28into a werewolf. And when he does that, because Joe technically killed another
- 2:05:34alpha, it gave him. He took back the alpha power that Richard had
- 2:05:41that Richard took from Joe, I'm sorry from Ox. And so when Ox
- 2:05:45and Desperation bites, I'm sorry Joe, I'm swear to God. So when
- 2:05:49Joe bites Ox and Desperation to save him, he also transfers that alpha power
- 2:05:57back into Ox. So Ox so biting him turns him into a were wolf.
- 2:06:03Because the thing is only alphas can turn humans into were wolves. So
- 2:06:12when Joe bites him, he becomes a were wolf and he takes back and
- 2:06:15he also gets back his alpha status, so he When Ox wakes up,
- 2:06:21he's surrounded by his pack. They uh it's not uncommon for the wolves to
- 2:06:28like have like, uh spend the night together where they're all just like pile
- 2:06:32together and just sleep like that. So they're all piled around him, except
- 2:06:36except for Joe, who was out in the forest just clearing his mind because
- 2:06:44he's because he's not sure if Ox will survive. Or not. When Ox
- 2:06:47wakes up, he's a work. He's a fully fledged werewolf. Now he
- 2:06:50immediately runs to Joe and as he goes to Joe in the forest, he
- 2:06:57has his first shift into a wolf and his wolf is pure black. Mm
- 2:07:03hmmm. So I was like, oh, that's cute. Joe is a
- 2:07:10pure white wolf and Ox is completely black. So that's cute. White and
- 2:07:17black. That's cute contrasting each other. Yeah, and they're both alphas.
- 2:07:23Ox is still in alpha now he has all the powers to go with it.
- 2:07:27Damn. Yeah. So there are some spicy scenes after this. I
- 2:07:33will not go into detail. Oh oh yeah, so when yeah, so
- 2:07:40when werewolves mates, when they find their their true mate, everything like that.
- 2:07:47After there's a little process of becoming mates, which involves sex and sex
- 2:08:01and biting. Uh oh so yeah, when a werewolf mates. Yeah,
- 2:08:07when it werewolf becomes a mate, they become mates of course, involve sex
- 2:08:11and one has to bite the other, which creates a mating bond. So
- 2:08:20aside from their pack bonds, their mating bond is a lot more intimate,
- 2:08:24kinky, kinky. Yeah. So yeah, they eventually did that, and
- 2:08:28the book pretty much ends on a very happy note. You know, their
- 2:08:33families together again, and because the two of them are now mates, their
- 2:08:37pact is able to become one again under their under both of them, two
- 2:08:43gay alphas. Yeah and Uh. When the book ends, there's a bit
- 2:08:50of foreshadowing of what the next book is going to be centered around, because
- 2:08:54it's one of the last scenes in the book. In this book is uh,
- 2:08:58Gordo and Mark. They're sitting close together and their hands are almost touching.
- 2:09:05Because I've said before Gordo is supposed to be Mark's mate, but because
- 2:09:09of everything that happened, Gordo ended up breaking out off with Mark because he's
- 2:09:16dealing with a bandoned issues. Let me tell you something, and that's pretty
- 2:09:20much what the next book, Raven Song, is gonna be about. It's
- 2:09:22gonna be about Gordo's and Mark's relationship and how they come back together. But
- 2:09:31that is it for Wolf's Song. Now, I know I did not do
- 2:09:35a good job. I did not do this book justice. I personally love
- 2:09:39this book. I love the characters and I relate to Oks so much because
- 2:09:45like our circumstances are different, not like with the Wharols and shit, but
- 2:09:48with like family and our personal lives like he did with a lot. He
- 2:09:54dealt with a lot of emotional and verbal abuse as a kid, which left
- 2:10:01him with feelings of like of self value, issues of self value. So
- 2:10:09he does not he didn't see himself as having much self worth. He was
- 2:10:13quiet. He was this big guy, and I'm like, that's me.
- 2:10:18I've gone through that, not with so much with my dad, but my
- 2:10:22brother. Yeah, so I was just like, oh, I relate to
- 2:10:28this guy so much. Yeah, so I definitely recommend reading this book.
- 2:10:35I know, like I've several I've recommended this book to several friends and they
- 2:10:39started reading it and they immediately pointed out, like, Okay, that's just
- 2:10:41problematic with their age difference, and like, yeah, I know, but
- 2:10:46just bear with it. They don't do anything until they're both way older and
- 2:10:52they're actually adults, so you can appreciate that. But for me, like
- 2:10:56I appreciated how we saw it go from something like like we're it's more like
- 2:11:01their their found family. Like they started off as like adopted brothers and they
- 2:11:07grew up with something more. Their relationship grew into something so much more,
- 2:11:11and there's just so much history that they share with each other, and I
- 2:11:16just love it. It's like I love that. I love that for them.
- 2:11:22Hell yeah, talking about that book got my boyfriend doing. Eventually,
- 2:11:28I'm going to read those books with these books, Yes, missed thaying over
- 2:11:33here still needs to finish reading fairy Tale, which is gonna be one of
- 2:11:39the next books that we're going to review. Yeah, probably the next episode
- 2:11:43of a Certain Ginger Bitch over here, even though I even though I dropped
- 2:11:52some small spoilers for him to get them motivated, especially considering that the big
- 2:11:58bad of the book is an Eldric terror. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 2:12:03and this certain ginger Bitch is a horror for for eldric terrors. I am
- 2:12:09a whore for elder chairs. That is correct. That is correct. But
- 2:12:13well we do Will we do fairy Time next week? Maybe? Who knows.
- 2:12:20Actually we'll see end up doing Ravens song. Yeah, and then fairy
- 2:12:24Tale. Well, we'll see, we'll see. We'll see how quick I
- 2:12:26can read, Yeah, we'll see, who will see? All right,
- 2:12:31yeah, read the book. It's great. All right, guys, We're
- 2:12:35gonna go and go because it's almost six thirty our time, and we are
- 2:12:39probably not going to record for the we're literally recording D and D. After
- 2:12:43this that, we'll probably can we do it? Like at seven thirty son't
- 2:12:48have enough time to make food? Yeah yeah, well I'm gonna have to
- 2:12:56go get food because I don't have time to make food right now ya which
- 2:12:58is but anyway, uh, y'all bye next time, Bye bye. The
- 2:13:03Tootles read the book, yay,
