- 0:03Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:06Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Bars Bazaar from Lazarre.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Everybody nailed it, joined us always by our bar.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Here is Evan Lazar and Alex Bars.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Does not having and maybe Romeo Dobbins is good enough
- 0:22Speaker 2: that they avoid this, But does not having a J.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Brown or a player of that caliber in their passing arsenal?
- 0:30Speaker 3: Does that put too much stress on Drake May to
- 0:34Speaker 3: elevate what's around him and make the whole thing better.
- 0:38Speaker 2: That's a developmental thing.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Like I still feel that Drake May is in a
- 0:42Speaker 3: developmental phase of his career. We're not at the point
- 0:45Speaker 3: yet where he's bulletproof that we can just sit here
- 0:47Speaker 3: and say we could trade coordinators, we could trade receivers,
- 0:51Speaker 3: we could trade whatever and it won't matter. Like I
- 0:53Speaker 3: don't know for a fully there yet.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Catch twenty two.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Well, Alex, the Patriots in their four years truly are
- 1:07Speaker 3: going back to Germany, are going back across the pond.
- 1:11Speaker 2: That is the big news here today.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Schedule release tomorrow night at seven point thirty ish, I
- 1:18Speaker 3: think is the full schedule release. But we found out
- 1:21Speaker 3: this morning that the Patriots will be playing a game
- 1:25Speaker 3: in Munich, Germany, at the home of FC Bayern Munich,
- 1:29Speaker 3: which I think is probably the part of this I'm
- 1:31Speaker 3: most looking forward to is seeing Byron's stadium and their
- 1:36Speaker 3: facility like those big time European soccer teams have, like
- 1:40Speaker 3: legit stadiums like these are not even you know, bigger
- 1:45Speaker 3: and nicer than the ones that we have here. So
- 1:48Speaker 3: I assume that that place is is the taj Mahal
- 1:52Speaker 3: of soccer stadiums, if you will, football stadiums, So very
- 1:57Speaker 3: much looking forward to that. So we do have some schedule,
- 2:01Speaker 3: let's call it scuttle butt rumors, some of it confirmed,
- 2:04Speaker 3: like the Germany trip, But November fifteenth, which is Week
- 2:08Speaker 3: ten of the NFL season, the Patriots will be playing
- 2:12Speaker 3: the Detroit Lions in Munich. I think that there's a
- 2:16Speaker 3: couple of different things, just to quickly touch on this
- 2:19Speaker 3: opening point one. I do think it's a little bit
- 2:22Speaker 3: of a break to not play the Lions in Detroit,
- 2:24Speaker 3: like that is a legit home crowd. That place as
- 2:27Speaker 3: loud as heck. It is indoors, and it it's loud.
- 2:31Speaker 3: It's loud, and it's a legit home field advantage in
- 2:34Speaker 3: the NFL in Detroit. The last time that we were
- 2:37Speaker 3: in Germany, and I would say when we were in
- 2:39Speaker 3: London as well, was that two years ago, Yeah, two
- 2:42Speaker 3: years ago. There are a ton of European Patriots fans,
- 2:48Speaker 3: So it's not just Patriots fans in Germany, it's also
- 2:51Speaker 3: Patriots fans in neighboring countries in Europe as well, and
- 2:55Speaker 3: since this is really their only opportunity, they kind of
- 2:58Speaker 3: all converge in the area that you know, London, Germany, whatever.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Uh So there there's a ton of Patriots fans over there.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I think a lot of that has to do with
- 3:07Speaker 3: the fact that the sport gained its popularity in Europe
- 3:11Speaker 3: when Tom Brady and Bill Belijack were winning six Super
- 3:13Speaker 3: Bowls with the Patriots, so it was a popular team
- 3:16Speaker 3: to latch onto.
- 3:17Speaker 1: And the Patriots have had some of the more notable
- 3:19Speaker 1: German players Yakab Johnson.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, I mean Sebastian Vohmer is definitely, yeah, the biggest,
- 3:26Speaker 3: and I'm sure he will be heavily involved in everything
- 3:28Speaker 3: that we do over there for the game in November.
- 3:31Speaker 2: So, uh, pro Patriot crowd, I think is possible.
- 3:36Speaker 3: You avoid going to Detroit and playing like a true
- 3:39Speaker 3: road game against the Lions in Detroit. Not always, but
- 3:45Speaker 3: sometimes there's the teams take the bye week the week
- 3:48Speaker 3: after that. So it's possible that the Patriots could have
- 3:52Speaker 3: a week eleven bye with Week ten being, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 3: the game in Germany, which I think would be a
- 3:58Speaker 3: nice landing spot for a by certainly better than the
- 4:01Speaker 3: last bye week of the year that they've had the
- 4:03Speaker 3: last couple of years, So that would be good. But
- 4:06Speaker 3: what is your just overall take on what we know
- 4:08Speaker 3: about the schedule. We have no confirmation whatsoever that they
- 4:12Speaker 3: are opening this season in Seattle. I know that report
- 4:15Speaker 3: is out there. I haven't I swear I haven't seen
- 4:18Speaker 3: the schedule yet. I don't know what it looks like.
- 4:20Speaker 3: I don't know if they're playing that game in Seattle
- 4:22Speaker 3: or not.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I mean, the reality is it's like they're not gonna
- 4:25Speaker 1: open against the Cardinals, right or so, it's basically the
- 4:28Speaker 1: Patriots of the Bears are the only two real components.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's definitely possible.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I think it should be the Bears. That would just
- 4:34Speaker 1: be a good game. And I think the Super Bowl
- 4:36Speaker 1: rematch Week one. They did that ten years ago. People
- 4:39Speaker 1: widely hated it.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Well, they used to do it pretty regularly, like ten
- 4:42Speaker 3: years ago. Is that I think maybe the last time
- 4:44Speaker 3: that they did it.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and people didn't like it. Yeah, it's supposed to
- 4:48Speaker 1: be celebrating the start of a new season, just doesn't
- 4:50Speaker 1: end up feeling that way.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Well, I don't know if that one is true or not,
- 4:56Speaker 3: but we do know about Germany. I did see something
- 5:00Speaker 3: earlier before we started recording the show about the miles
- 5:03Speaker 3: traveled this season, which you basically know except the International Games,
- 5:07Speaker 3: what that looks like. And now that we know the
- 5:09Speaker 3: entire international slate, I think there's nine international games this year.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Now that we know the entire international slate, the Patriots
- 5:17Speaker 3: are fifth in that list. Over twenty seven thousand miles
- 5:21Speaker 3: they're going to travel this year because they do have
- 5:23Speaker 3: at Seattle, at Chargers and now Munich on the schedule,
- 5:28Speaker 3: So it's going to be a little bit more of
- 5:30Speaker 3: a travel heavy scheduled this year. Last year, we didn't
- 5:33Speaker 3: leave the Eastern time zone.
- 5:35Speaker 2: We did Nashville, yeah, the one. Yeah, New Orleans might
- 5:39Speaker 2: be central too, but it's we didn't leave the.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Right generally twenty seventh and miles traveled last year, Yeah,
- 5:46Speaker 1: so this.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Is going to be a different story.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I think that those to me, you know, I know,
- 5:50Speaker 3: the schedule thing, it has picked up steam, has became popularity,
- 5:54Speaker 3: how far you're traveling.
- 5:57Speaker 2: When your bye week is. And then one other thing
- 6:00Speaker 2: that I think is maybe a little bit.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Should hold more credence than I because I know a
- 6:05Speaker 3: lot of people also talk about days off, like, you know.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Is it a short week, long week? Partly a long week?
- 6:13Speaker 3: Coming off buys things like that, that's part of it.
- 6:15Speaker 3: And then the last thing, you know, the amount of
- 6:17Speaker 3: primetime games, especially road primetime games, I think really does
- 6:22Speaker 3: matter a lot. Those are those are grinds. Like there
- 6:25Speaker 3: it's a late long day. You know, you play a
- 6:29Speaker 3: primetime game eight o'clock Eastern. You play the game, let's
- 6:34Speaker 3: say the game ends eleven eleven thirty, You do media,
- 6:37Speaker 3: you know, locker room, all that stuff. Afterwards, get on
- 6:40Speaker 3: the bus to get on a plane. We're pulling into
- 6:43Speaker 3: the lot here at Juleett at four or five o'clock
- 6:45Speaker 3: in the morning sometimes after those primetime games. And then
- 6:48Speaker 3: the players most importantly have to you know, wake up
- 6:51Speaker 3: and turn around and start the process all over again
- 6:53Speaker 3: for the following week. So those late primetime games. And
- 6:57Speaker 3: some of the players that are younger players on this
- 7:00Speaker 3: team that have been a part of you know, not
- 7:03Speaker 3: a lot of winning until last season, Like they're not
- 7:05Speaker 3: a ton of experience like this used to be like
- 7:07Speaker 3: a regular commonplace thing when the Patriots are rolling that
- 7:10Speaker 3: they had all these.
- 7:11Speaker 2: You know, logistical things to maneuver.
- 7:14Speaker 3: This will be that will be a test, like if
- 7:16Speaker 3: you have multiple primetime games and packed into a short
- 7:20Speaker 3: period of time, if you have road primetime games like
- 7:23Speaker 3: those can be grueling, it can make an impact. So
- 7:27Speaker 3: we'll see all those different things about the schedule. No
- 7:31Speaker 3: thoughts on Germany, no, none.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Not really.
- 7:35Speaker 2: They need to match up.
- 7:36Speaker 1: They haven't won internationally like ten years. Their last one
- 7:38Speaker 1: was Mexico City twenty seventeen.
- 7:40Speaker 3: I remember that last Brandon Cooks Patriots. Yeh, twenty seventeen.
- 7:45Speaker 1: They've lost last Tuesday. Got to get back to winning,
- 7:47Speaker 1: hopefully in Europe again.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Yeah, the last time we were both of the last
- 7:51Speaker 3: times that was over there were not at least the
- 7:53Speaker 3: London game.
- 7:54Speaker 2: They started out well in that game.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Because the game where the Jags was it eighteen runs
- 7:59Speaker 1: and yeah.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Something, but that the Patriots put some points on the
- 8:02Speaker 3: board early in that game. Drake May looked really good
- 8:06Speaker 3: out of the gate and that in that one, I
- 8:08Speaker 3: think they drove right down the field and scored on
- 8:10Speaker 3: their opening possession. The game in Frankfurt in Germany in
- 8:14Speaker 3: twenty twenty three was one of the worst football games
- 8:16Speaker 3: I've ever seen that that was Professionally, that was a
- 8:21Speaker 3: It was ten to six, but it felt like it
- 8:23Speaker 3: was zero to zero. It was an absolutely I felt bad,
- 8:28Speaker 3: honestly for the fans and for the people that the
- 8:32Speaker 3: paying customers over in Frankfurt. I legitimately felt bad that
- 8:35Speaker 3: that was the product that they're watching. It does feel
- 8:38Speaker 3: like a little bit that the league is trying to
- 8:40Speaker 3: put better teams in those games so that they don't
- 8:44Speaker 3: have ten to six clunkers like we did in Frankfort
- 8:47Speaker 3: a couple of years.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I mean, that was the game last year. I think
- 8:49Speaker 1: it was Jet's Broncos right that the Jets had negative
- 8:52Speaker 1: passing yards, Yeah, it was.
- 8:54Speaker 3: I mean, obviously we all remember it being capped off
- 8:56Speaker 3: by mac Jones throwing the backfoot interception.
- 8:59Speaker 1: So back to bat it was mac Jones through that
- 9:01Speaker 1: and then Bailey's Appy had like the face spike in
- 9:04Speaker 1: four defenders. Yeah, like what's going on?
- 9:06Speaker 3: Yeah, the Mac Jones, I think it was Kasiki right,
- 9:09Speaker 3: that was wide open in the end zone behind the
- 9:11Speaker 3: safety and short armed it and that was that was that.
- 9:14Speaker 1: That was the end. That that was for everybody.
- 9:17Speaker 3: That was the end for Bill Belichick, the end for
- 9:19Speaker 3: Mac Jones, That was the end for everybody. So hopefully
- 9:22Speaker 3: it goes better this time around. We also have Rookie
- 9:25Speaker 3: Mini Caamp to talk about plenty to discuss there. Alex
- 9:28Speaker 3: and I were both there on Saturday, so we'll do
- 9:32Speaker 3: deep dive into Rookie Mini Caamp. We did do a
- 9:35Speaker 3: show on your show on ninety five, so hopefully it's
- 9:39Speaker 3: not too redundant of what we just did some days
- 9:42Speaker 3: to process things like that, So we'll touch on that
- 9:47Speaker 3: next and then obviously we'll take your calls and emails
- 9:51Speaker 3: as well, and we'll talk I'm sure about all the
- 9:54Speaker 3: latest news in terms of the AJ Brown and Kyle
- 9:57Speaker 3: Williams changing numbers or not change numbers and all that
- 10:00Speaker 3: good stuff.
- 10:01Speaker 2: When we opened the show up.
- 10:03Speaker 3: But it's Evan, it's Alex, it's Ace behind the glass
- 10:06Speaker 3: and we're rolling.
- 10:08Speaker 2: I wanted to start like cold open.
- 10:10Speaker 3: With the Germany thing because there was news that was
- 10:13Speaker 3: exciting here today, and I am excited to go to
- 10:16Speaker 3: this one because I've heard a lot of really good
- 10:19Speaker 3: things about Munich, like that this is actually a pretty
- 10:22Speaker 3: fun trip and looking forward to it. So a little
- 10:26Speaker 3: over eight hours on the plane, it's not ideal, but
- 10:28Speaker 3: other than that, I'm looking forward to it.
- 10:30Speaker 2: So let's get into rookie Minicamp. And you know, we
- 10:33Speaker 2: were both there.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Like I mentioned, the practice for about seventy five eighty minutes.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Wasn't a overly long or competitive practice. We did not see,
- 10:43Speaker 3: just off the top, just the full disclosure, we did
- 10:46Speaker 3: not see Gabe Acis or Eli raridd And participate in
- 10:49Speaker 3: this practice. Gabe Acis was physically there, oh, watching, observing,
- 10:55Speaker 3: but he was not in, you know, in practice participating.
- 11:00Speaker 3: He did not see Eli Rearden at all. He signed
- 11:03Speaker 3: his contract, but he was not out at practice. So
- 11:05Speaker 3: those two guys are not going to be in our
- 11:07Speaker 3: deep dive here. But let's just go in order, I
- 11:11Speaker 3: you know, have some thoughts on pretty much all the
- 11:13Speaker 3: draft picks, and then we'll talk about some of the
- 11:15Speaker 3: udfas and the two tryout guys that they ended up
- 11:17Speaker 3: signing to the ninety man roster after rookie minie camp
- 11:22Speaker 3: Let's start with at the top though, with Lomu, you know,
- 11:25Speaker 3: I think the big question coming out of this is
- 11:27Speaker 3: is there anything to him repping at left tackle for now?
- 11:32Speaker 2: I don't necessarily think so. You know, they only had three.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Tackles out there, somebody had to play left tackle. They
- 11:37Speaker 3: kind of seemed like they just settled on, Hey, let's
- 11:40Speaker 3: just go out there and get a practice in, and
- 11:42Speaker 3: let's not worry about flipping sides, because crown Over did
- 11:45Speaker 3: the same thing.
- 11:45Speaker 1: He played his.
- 11:46Speaker 2: College position on the right side. The one thing that
- 11:48Speaker 2: I thought that stood out to me about Lomu though,
- 11:51Speaker 2: is that he looks a lot like Will Campbell. Honestly,
- 11:55Speaker 2: like his dimensions.
- 11:56Speaker 3: He's a little bit longer, he's a little bit wider
- 11:58Speaker 3: in terms of his actual dimensions. His arm length and
- 12:01Speaker 3: his wingspan are a little bit longer than Will Campbell.
- 12:05Speaker 3: But I think we can safely kind of say at
- 12:07Speaker 3: this point, at least in the top one hundred ish picks,
- 12:11Speaker 3: like the Patriots sort of have a type right now.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I've had tackle with this kind of body type, maybe
- 12:16Speaker 3: sacrificing a little bit of length in a little bit
- 12:18Speaker 3: of size for athleticism. But my initial oppression of Caleb Blomo,
- 12:24Speaker 3: along with where he was playing was I flashed back
- 12:27Speaker 3: to last year's Rookie Minicamp and remembering what Will Campbell
- 12:31Speaker 3: looked like at Rookie Miniicamp, and I was kind of like,
- 12:33Speaker 3: this looks like we kind of just printed out the
- 12:35Speaker 3: same guy here, So they look very similar, honestly.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it definitely seems like they are transitioning. And they
- 12:43Speaker 1: were already kind of here a bit but more athletic
- 12:46Speaker 1: on the offensive line.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:47Speaker 1: They had Campbell and Jared Wilson last year, Caleb Blomoo
- 12:51Speaker 1: this year. Like that's putting a premium to me on
- 12:53Speaker 1: athleticism up front.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think we.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Had talked about that. I firs it was on or
- 12:57Speaker 1: off the air, but we definitely talked about this maybe
- 12:58Speaker 1: on the show a little bit, like trying to get
- 13:01Speaker 1: more athletic upfront so they can maximize on Drake May's mobility,
- 13:05Speaker 1: do some more rollout bootleg type stuff. It's going to
- 13:07Speaker 1: expand you in the run game as well, some more
- 13:10Speaker 1: of that outside's own stuff. So that seems to be
- 13:13Speaker 1: where it's trending. I don't read a ton into him
- 13:15Speaker 1: playing left tackle, like when he's taking left tackle reps
- 13:18Speaker 1: next to Elijah H. Tucker with Drake May under center
- 13:23Speaker 1: and Will Campbell's out there, like then we can talk
- 13:25Speaker 1: about it. Yeah, it's not like he repped over Will Campbell.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I just think to your point, they're trying to ease
- 13:29Speaker 1: him in. It's the first practice. It's also you know,
- 13:31Speaker 1: I say this every time this time of year, and
- 13:35Speaker 1: it's the one thing that really annoys me about covering
- 13:37Speaker 1: it this time of year. It's not linear. So for
- 13:41Speaker 1: all we know, they practice Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Yeah, they're
- 13:44Speaker 1: cross training these guys. Friday, they're cross training. Saturday, they're
- 13:48Speaker 1: back their natural positions. Sunday they're cross training again. Right,
- 13:51Speaker 1: And we were only out there one day. Like if
- 13:54Speaker 1: you remember last year, do you remember what the big
- 13:56Speaker 1: story was from the first day of OTA's last year,
- 14:00Speaker 1: Drake May threw foreignerceptions in his first right, I do
- 14:04Speaker 1: remember which one shows you how this time you're gonna
- 14:08Speaker 1: be in terms of results. This year is about usage
- 14:10Speaker 1: where guys playing who's playing over who? Right? If I
- 14:13Speaker 1: told you that today, no, it's fine, they're going to
- 14:14Speaker 1: the super Bowl. You would have called me a lunatic. Yeah.
- 14:16Speaker 1: The other thing is, I remember then there was a
- 14:18Speaker 1: report I think was Reese or somebody the next day
- 14:20Speaker 1: was like, hey, Drake May bounce back really well, but
- 14:22Speaker 1: we didn't see it because we were there. We weren't there,
- 14:24Speaker 1: and it becomes like Drake May's having this horrible start
- 14:26Speaker 1: to Mini camp. So it's like you just have to
- 14:28Speaker 1: remember this time of year or to OTAs until we
- 14:32Speaker 1: get to Mini Caamp, which is three days in a row,
- 14:34Speaker 1: and then obviously training camp are out there every day
- 14:36Speaker 1: like we're only seeing a sliver and it's just important
- 14:40Speaker 1: to remember that. And no, this is not just excusing
- 14:42Speaker 1: a way things you don't want to see, but it
- 14:45Speaker 1: is you're really just looking at the usage and keeping
- 14:49Speaker 1: in mind that, hey, we're only seeing a tiny bit
- 14:52Speaker 1: of what they're doing. We're probably seeing the stuff like
- 14:54Speaker 1: we're not seeing the stuff they don't want us to
- 14:56Speaker 1: see too, because they can control that a little more.
- 14:59Speaker 1: And it's not until you get to mini camp that
- 15:01Speaker 1: you get an idea of really how it's all lined up.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and plus I think it's a great point in
- 15:06Speaker 3: terms of us not seeing every practice, like once we
- 15:10Speaker 3: get into training camp and you're out there every single day,
- 15:13Speaker 3: you start to see how things are stacking and you
- 15:16Speaker 3: can see how that linear progression happens, where you know,
- 15:19Speaker 3: a guy is getting reps at this spot, or he's
- 15:23Speaker 3: getting more reps yesterday than he did today, and then
- 15:25Speaker 3: he gets even more and even more, and you see
- 15:27Speaker 3: this progression for players. Right now, we are like parachuting
- 15:30Speaker 3: in for one day, right then they're taking us out,
- 15:33Speaker 3: and then in three weeks we're going to parachute in again,
- 15:35Speaker 3: and then they're gonna take us out.
- 15:36Speaker 2: And that's why that's different.
- 15:37Speaker 1: That's what covering the time the team at this time
- 15:40Speaker 1: of year is to me, like and when I say
- 15:42Speaker 1: this time ere, I mean like this in the summer.
- 15:44Speaker 1: It's the practices don't exist in a bubble. We cover
- 15:48Speaker 1: training camp as a linear event. Who's doing better, who's
- 15:51Speaker 1: doing worse, what's changing, And you just don't get as
- 15:54Speaker 1: much of an opportunity to do that this time of year.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I did, you know, and look it for what
- 15:59Speaker 3: it's worth, right Obviously, you know they did do a
- 16:02Speaker 3: run game period towards the end of practice that was
- 16:04Speaker 3: more at a jog through pace and they were doing
- 16:07Speaker 3: a lot of zone and bootleg and move the pocket.
- 16:11Speaker 3: You know, Barred Morton was back there playing quarterback and
- 16:13Speaker 3: they were doing a lot of that different kind of stuff.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Now are they really thinking, as Josh McDaniel's really thinking about,
- 16:20Speaker 3: we're going to rep these guys in a certain scheme
- 16:22Speaker 3: right now?
- 16:22Speaker 2: Like probably not.
- 16:23Speaker 3: And to your point, was the day before a downhill
- 16:27Speaker 3: gag scheme day and then Saturday was the zone day
- 16:30Speaker 3: and this is how we're installing things and all that
- 16:32Speaker 3: good stuff as well. So I didn't really have a
- 16:36Speaker 3: ton I don't know if you did. I didn't really
- 16:39Speaker 3: want to look too much into like how did Caleb
- 16:41Speaker 3: blue moo Lomu.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Perform in this practice?
- 16:44Speaker 3: Like I don't really I'm not great in his blocks
- 16:47Speaker 3: right now right Like I don't think we're there yet.
- 16:50Speaker 3: I wouldn't even really start doing that until they put
- 16:52Speaker 3: the pads on in training camp. But just generally, you know,
- 16:56Speaker 3: he was there at left tackle that for the most part,
- 16:59Speaker 3: and all that good stuff. The other thing I wanted
- 17:02Speaker 3: to do on the talk about on the offensive line
- 17:04Speaker 3: because you know, you try to keep me in check
- 17:07Speaker 3: sometimes with getting too excited about the spring Alex, But
- 17:10Speaker 3: how excited am I allowed to be about Demetrius crown
- 17:13Speaker 3: Over because as a guy that appreciates offensive line play,
- 17:18Speaker 3: all you need are guys that are just huge.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Sometimes and athletic.
- 17:24Speaker 3: And he is huge and athletic, and he's got a
- 17:28Speaker 3: lot of seasoning in between there that needs to happen. Right,
- 17:32Speaker 3: There's a lot of technique stuff that he needs to
- 17:34Speaker 3: work on, and he's going to have to learn how
- 17:37Speaker 3: to use all of his raw measurables. But I'm excited
- 17:41Speaker 3: about what we saw. I'm excited about what he looks
- 17:44Speaker 3: like on a practice field. You know, give this guy
- 17:47Speaker 3: to Doug Moron and Jason Haddling their offensive line staff
- 17:50Speaker 3: and let's see if they can develop a Day three
- 17:52Speaker 3: steel because he's got some freakish measurables like thirty five
- 17:57Speaker 3: plus inch arms, athletic kid played some tight end earlier
- 18:01Speaker 3: on in his college career before converting to tackle. I
- 18:05Speaker 3: for what we how excited you can be about a
- 18:07Speaker 3: player out of rookie Mini caamp in one day at practice.
- 18:11Speaker 3: It was exciting to see a guy like that that
- 18:13Speaker 3: that was just humongous, and it looks like he can
- 18:15Speaker 3: move pretty well too.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, it's the size stands out. He looks
- 18:21Speaker 1: the part of an NFL tackle, and you can't teach size.
- 18:25Speaker 1: That's something that's just going to be there. Again. We
- 18:26Speaker 1: got to see when the pads come on. I'm gonna
- 18:28Speaker 1: pump the brakes there a little bit. Yeah, because being
- 18:32Speaker 1: athletic and being like, how does it look when he's
- 18:35Speaker 1: getting They don't really have any speed rushers I guess
- 18:37Speaker 1: Braden Swinton, but like, how does it look when a
- 18:39Speaker 1: speed rusher is coming at him?
- 18:40Speaker 5: Right?
- 18:40Speaker 1: And can he move with those guys? So we'll see that,
- 18:43Speaker 1: but no seeing him in person, Like, that's the thing.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Obviously the team they go to all that, they go
- 18:47Speaker 1: to the games, they go to the All Star Games,
- 18:48Speaker 1: they do all that. But for us falling on the outside,
- 18:51Speaker 1: we can't be at every single scouting event. So for
- 18:53Speaker 1: some players, it's our first chance to seehim in person. Yeah,
- 18:56Speaker 1: and I think, what is he listed at six six
- 19:00Speaker 1: three seventeen.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Yeah, over six to seven.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I'm taking the over on that.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:05Speaker 1: And that's not to say he's like I don't I'm
- 19:07Speaker 1: saying he's out of shape. He just looks huge. Yeah,
- 19:10Speaker 1: he's massive, six seven three, nineteen thirty six inch arms,
- 19:13Speaker 1: the arm length.
- 19:14Speaker 2: It really does stink.
- 19:15Speaker 1: He's filling out every bit of that and then some.
- 19:18Speaker 1: So you got to coach it up. Yeah, but a
- 19:20Speaker 1: ton of good tools to work with.
- 19:22Speaker 3: That's exactly what you're looking for on day three of
- 19:24Speaker 3: the draft with these picks like that, That to me
- 19:26Speaker 3: is how I would like. I think there's two different
- 19:28Speaker 3: ways to approach day three. You're either approaching day three
- 19:31Speaker 3: to get like culture guys, like guys that are gonna fit,
- 19:34Speaker 3: guys that maybe are going to play on special teams,
- 19:36Speaker 3: you know that sort of thing. And the other way
- 19:38Speaker 3: to approach day three is to just trade take right
- 19:42Speaker 3: bets on traits like athletic pure athletic trades. And I
- 19:45Speaker 3: think the two guys that they kind of did that
- 19:47Speaker 3: with were Prunty, who I want to talk about in
- 19:50Speaker 3: a second, who's just like a long you know, got
- 19:52Speaker 3: the long speed and you know, top end speed and
- 19:54Speaker 3: also has the length of a good cornerback on the outside,
- 19:58Speaker 3: and crown Over. And I really think that if crown
- 20:00Speaker 3: Over puts his head down, puts the work in, gets
- 20:04Speaker 3: the coaching, takes the coaching, that there's just a lot
- 20:07Speaker 3: of tools there that you at least could project him
- 20:11Speaker 3: to be a quality swing tackle maybe, And I don't
- 20:15Speaker 3: know if I'm ready to go starter yet, Like that's
- 20:16Speaker 3: a long way away. But if you can get a
- 20:19Speaker 3: six round pick to be a quality swing tackle, that's
- 20:23Speaker 3: a pretty good pick.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Adrian Watta's I'm gonna keep saying that that's the bar
- 20:27Speaker 1: for Like, if they can at least get him there,
- 20:30Speaker 1: feel good about where they're at. Ideally a little more
- 20:32Speaker 1: than that, but if they can get him there, feel
- 20:33Speaker 1: good about where they're at.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Yeah, they would have.
- 20:35Speaker 3: And you look, I'm not throwing Marcus Bryan out either,
- 20:38Speaker 3: who's also humongous by the way in his own right.
- 20:41Speaker 2: But you know, Crownover is just as current.
- 20:43Speaker 1: They're built differently, like Brian's very like high hip, yeah,
- 20:47Speaker 1: and like Crownover just it looks athletic, right yeah.
- 20:51Speaker 3: But if you have let's just take Brian out of
- 20:53Speaker 3: it for a second. If you have Campbell, Lomu crown
- 20:56Speaker 3: Over as your three tackles long time, obviously taking Morgan
- 21:01Speaker 3: Moses out too because of his age. Like those are
- 21:03Speaker 3: three tackles that starting left, starting right, swing tackle that
- 21:08Speaker 3: are all going to be on rookie contracts for the
- 21:10Speaker 3: next four years, right, Yeah, that's.
- 21:11Speaker 2: A pretty good thing to have great shape a tackle, Yeah,
- 21:14Speaker 2: pretty good thing to have.
- 21:15Speaker 3: The other story coming out of Mini camp Baron Morton,
- 21:19Speaker 3: do we, Alex, do we have a backup quarterback competition
- 21:23Speaker 3: in this summer or are we too far away from
- 21:26Speaker 3: calling it that with Morton we're against Tommy DeVito, We're.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Too far away from calling it that. DeVito's played in
- 21:32Speaker 1: the league. He has experienced that Morton doesn't. But like again,
- 21:35Speaker 1: I try to tell everybody Morton might be able to play.
- 21:38Speaker 1: We would. The biggest knock on him was not a weakness.
- 21:41Speaker 1: It was an unknown and those are two. It's a difference. Yeah,
- 21:45Speaker 1: it's not that he didn't have the arm strength. We
- 21:47Speaker 1: didn't know whether or not he had the arm strength.
- 21:49Speaker 1: And that was the first thing I wanted to look
- 21:51Speaker 1: at when we got out there, is how does the
- 21:52Speaker 1: ball come out of his hand? Because it wasn't like
- 21:55Speaker 1: I feel like people think of arm strength, like how
- 21:57Speaker 1: far can you throw the ball?
- 21:58Speaker 6: Right?
- 21:58Speaker 1: Joe Milton could throw it a hundred twenty yards and
- 22:01Speaker 1: it's that's part of the conversation. But to me, the
- 22:04Speaker 1: other part of the conversation is velocity and can you
- 22:07Speaker 1: get good zip on the ball because in the NFL,
- 22:08Speaker 1: these windows close really quick. And you know, if you
- 22:11Speaker 1: can throw the ball sixty five miles now verse sixty,
- 22:13Speaker 1: that might be the difference in hitting some of these
- 22:15Speaker 1: windows versus Nope, they close by the time you get
- 22:17Speaker 1: the ball out. So again, he's not Joe Milton, right,
- 22:21Speaker 1: But the balls come out of his hand with good zip. Yeah,
- 22:24Speaker 1: and that's you know, they're jogging half speed, but he's
- 22:26Speaker 1: still doing a full throw. And so I like the
- 22:29Speaker 1: way the ball came out of his hand. I thought
- 22:32Speaker 1: something he did well in college, even through the injury
- 22:34Speaker 1: that you saw. He's able to vary the arm slot
- 22:37Speaker 1: without losing accuracy, throws a good anticipation, so at that
- 22:42Speaker 1: big unknown like okay, you have my attention and maybe
- 22:46Speaker 1: not this year, maybe that's the next year thing. But
- 22:47Speaker 1: could he light it up in the preseason maybe Yeah.
- 22:52Speaker 3: So he definitely has a nice compact release, and he's
- 22:56Speaker 3: got that ability, like you said, you know, to change
- 22:59Speaker 3: arm slots kind of like that sleight of hand too
- 23:01Speaker 3: with the ball handling, where you know, if it's a
- 23:04Speaker 3: quick screen or it's an RPO. In his college system,
- 23:07Speaker 3: he has that ability to just kind of quickly get
- 23:10Speaker 3: the ball out of his hands and execute fakes well
- 23:12Speaker 3: and all that good stuff. I thought he threw the
- 23:14Speaker 3: ball pretty well, like you said on Saturday, with some zip,
- 23:18Speaker 3: especially in some of those throws at he into the
- 23:20Speaker 3: middle of the field. He threw like a really nice
- 23:23Speaker 3: dig route to Kyle Dixon into a crowd and was
- 23:25Speaker 3: able to just kind of zip it in there on
- 23:27Speaker 3: a line. That's what you want to see. I actually
- 23:30Speaker 3: went back on Monday and watch more of his college game.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie to you. I didn't spend a
- 23:35Speaker 3: ton of time watching the third string quarterback when they
- 23:38Speaker 3: drafted him, so I went back and watched a little
- 23:40Speaker 3: bit more. His bowl game against Oregon was really rough.
- 23:44Speaker 3: That was I think he had four turnover where he
- 23:46Speaker 3: plays in that game alone. But I think that what
- 23:50Speaker 3: you saw with him, though, is what you were talking
- 23:52Speaker 3: about a little bit. He looks like a guy that
- 23:55Speaker 3: hasn't played a ton of football, because you know, I
- 23:58Speaker 3: didn't really think he saw the field great, and it
- 24:00Speaker 3: was kind of like staring down reads and like you know,
- 24:03Speaker 3: locked down on one side of the field and like
- 24:06Speaker 3: that sort of thing, and was kind of missing stuff,
- 24:09Speaker 3: you know, and maybe forcing the ball into some tight
- 24:12Speaker 3: windows because he wasn't coming off reads and getting into
- 24:15Speaker 3: you know, the open receivers in the progression. I thought
- 24:18Speaker 3: he threw the foot ball pretty well on the Texas
- 24:21Speaker 3: Tech tape, but I just saw some overall inexperience and
- 24:26Speaker 3: rawness to his game.
- 24:27Speaker 1: So he has played a lot though. That's the thing.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Like he was a four year starter a Texas Tech.
- 24:31Speaker 1: It's just and he kind of talked about this, and
- 24:34Speaker 1: we talked to him after practice. He's never really been
- 24:38Speaker 1: able to go out there and just play because he's
- 24:39Speaker 1: spent most of his career with significant physical limitations. Yeah,
- 24:42Speaker 1: played two years through his sprain shoulder, then mostly last
- 24:44Speaker 1: year with a broken leg. And he said, like, it's
- 24:48Speaker 1: nice to go out there and just think about football
- 24:50Speaker 1: and not how my body feels.
- 24:51Speaker 2: So, you know, maybe that was it.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I think that's more it. I think he was forced
- 24:55Speaker 1: to play a certain way in college because of those
- 24:58Speaker 1: injuries that now isn't something that he has to deal with.
- 25:03Speaker 1: He really hasn't been fully healthy since twenty twenty two.
- 25:05Speaker 1: And I'll tell you I pulled it up right here,
- 25:08Speaker 1: all right. It's all about even turnover worthy play percentage.
- 25:10Speaker 1: By year twenty twenty two to four point three, than
- 25:13Speaker 1: four point four, than two point eight in twenty twenty four,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and then up to four point five last year.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Yeah, he had a rough Bowl game.
- 25:21Speaker 3: I thought he had some really good throws though down
- 25:24Speaker 3: the field, you know, some of those big time throws.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Also had a pretty high rate of big time throws
- 25:29Speaker 3: last year at Texas.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Tech six point three percent career high.
- 25:32Speaker 3: He certainly has ability in that respect. I didn't love
- 25:36Speaker 3: how he saw the field. I thought he was delayed processing,
- 25:38Speaker 3: Like I said, a little bit some of that also,
- 25:40Speaker 3: is this the nature of these offenses. They're very screen
- 25:43Speaker 3: bubble screen, bubble screen RPO, you.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Know that sort of thing, especially Texas Tech.
- 25:47Speaker 3: So it wasn't a ton of like exposure to downfield
- 25:51Speaker 3: progression reads and things like that.
- 25:53Speaker 2: So maybe he just needs more of it. I think,
- 25:55Speaker 2: is just more repping it.
- 25:56Speaker 3: But what I thought, you know, impressed me as well
- 26:00Speaker 3: as the zip on the ball on Saturdays. I thought
- 26:02Speaker 3: he looked like he was kind of getting it pretty well. Yeah,
- 26:06Speaker 3: and that that was not what I saw on the
- 26:08Speaker 3: college tape. So maybe he's gonna make some strides in
- 26:11Speaker 3: that area. I'm not ready to say it's a competition
- 26:14Speaker 3: with the Vito yet, but I think that DeVito has
- 26:17Speaker 3: got to have a pretty good summer in a good spring.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Oh, I don't think it's impossible we get to that point.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, yeah, I mean I think it's it's in
- 26:24Speaker 3: play that if the Vito kind of goes the other
- 26:27Speaker 3: direction and backslides, and what we saw on Saturday for
- 26:30Speaker 3: Morton is kind of how he plays throughout training camp,
- 26:34Speaker 3: then maybe there is a scenario where he's the backup
- 26:36Speaker 3: in DeVito's the emergency quarterback. Luckily for both of them,
- 26:39Speaker 3: they're probably gonna keep all three on the roster with
- 26:41Speaker 3: the rules the way that they are now. But you know,
- 26:44Speaker 3: that's just the way I looked at that. Moving down
- 26:47Speaker 3: now to some more of these day three guys wasn't
- 26:51Speaker 3: a ton to glean. I don't think about some of
- 26:53Speaker 3: these others. You know, Prunty is playing on the outside.
- 26:56Speaker 3: I didn't really see positively or Negati anything out of
- 27:01Speaker 3: him necessarily. Maybe I needed to watch him a little
- 27:03Speaker 3: bit more, but he was playing on the outside. We
- 27:06Speaker 3: have been getting a lot of questions just big picture, Alex.
- 27:09Speaker 3: We got to call in yesterday to Pu about this
- 27:12Speaker 3: about their cornerback depth, and you know where things stand
- 27:15Speaker 3: after that, the big three, after the top three of Gonzales,
- 27:18Speaker 3: Davis and Marcus Jones. You know, how do you feel generally,
- 27:21Speaker 3: you know, what did you see anything about Prunty and
- 27:23Speaker 3: how do you feel generally about where their cornerback depth
- 27:26Speaker 3: is right now?
- 27:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's gonna be a competition for There's
- 27:29Speaker 1: a lot of names there, right and it's it's who's
- 27:32Speaker 1: the third boundary guide? You know, Charles Woods, Kobe Minor,
- 27:35Speaker 1: a lot of these names we've talked about.
- 27:36Speaker 3: Yeah, Charles Woods, Kindallvilldor, Kobe Minor, now Caleb Prunty, the
- 27:41Speaker 3: two udfa's Canada. Harris Brendan Crossley is still kicking around
- 27:48Speaker 3: Marcella's dial is a guy that I don't think we
- 27:49Speaker 3: should forget about now. He was playing more inside and
- 27:52Speaker 3: like kind of nickel safety before he got hurt in
- 27:54Speaker 3: camp last summer. But he's a guy that I I
- 27:57Speaker 3: meant to mention yesterday on PU I don't think we
- 28:00Speaker 3: should totally forget or.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Cross off Marcella's dial.
- 28:03Speaker 3: I thought he was kind of making a push to
- 28:05Speaker 3: contribute last year before he got hurt in practice. If
- 28:09Speaker 3: he's healthy and he's you know, able to get back
- 28:12Speaker 3: to that this summer with an entire year off by
- 28:15Speaker 3: the way, you know, because he didn't play at all
- 28:16Speaker 3: last year, you would hope that he would be able
- 28:19Speaker 3: to get back there.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I'm not totally ruling out Marcella's Dial coming out of
- 28:22Speaker 2: this group.
- 28:23Speaker 1: That's a really good special teams player, and like that's
- 28:25Speaker 1: going to help him make the roster. Yeah, I I
- 28:27Speaker 1: don't think Prumpty stood out one way or the other.
- 28:29Speaker 1: It was. It's really tough with these secondary guys in
- 28:31Speaker 1: this kind of practice.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Yeah, if they're not getting thrown at, then you're.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Not gonna you know, big dude, good size, corner, good
- 28:38Speaker 1: stands out, long arms. Yep. So they're like physically looks
- 28:41Speaker 1: like one of their corners, which we kind of knew
- 28:43Speaker 1: coming in. That's one to but he'll be somebody to
- 28:47Speaker 1: watch because I don't feel definitively like any of those
- 28:51Speaker 1: guys are positioned over him. Now, maybe he's not positioned
- 28:54Speaker 1: over them, but I again, minor prunty Crossley, Dial, build
- 29:00Speaker 1: or Woods, that's all pretty even. Does anybody there have
- 29:02Speaker 1: the advantage over anybody else? Do you think going in
- 29:05Speaker 1: maybe Charles Little Billion because he was here last year,
- 29:08Speaker 1: but they've also brought in all these guys compete with him. Yeah,
- 29:11Speaker 1: and then you know, I again dials different because I
- 29:15Speaker 1: think he's going to have a special team's edge that's
- 29:17Speaker 1: gonna help him. But he's gonna be in the mix
- 29:20Speaker 1: for sure.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:21Speaker 3: I think Vildor is also a guy that profiles very
- 29:25Speaker 3: similarly to Woods, and so maybe they see a similar player,
- 29:29Speaker 3: body type, that sort of thing. Has a little bit
- 29:31Speaker 3: of NFL experience on a ton but like has played
- 29:34Speaker 3: some snaps in the NFL. So maybe that's, you know,
- 29:37Speaker 3: a guy that has I think Woods has the inside track.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Maybe the guy in the lane next to him might
- 29:42Speaker 3: be Kendall Vildor right now, and then you know it's
- 29:45Speaker 3: kind of a rookies in dial bouncing back and everybody else.
- 29:48Speaker 1: The thing Pronty is, like the size, he has a
- 29:51Speaker 1: higher ceiling maybe because of that size. I just just
- 29:54Speaker 1: getting there, yeah, you know, I just.
- 29:58Speaker 2: On his college tape.
- 29:59Speaker 3: I just really worried about the details with him, like
- 30:02Speaker 3: the technique, the route anticipation. I mentioned after the draft
- 30:06Speaker 3: when we did our draft recap, Like he get beat
- 30:09Speaker 3: by double moves, like once or twice a game where like,
- 30:12Speaker 3: you know, the quarterback runs a little stutter and go
- 30:14Speaker 3: on him on the outside. The quarterback gives a pump
- 30:17Speaker 3: and he's just jumping the route right and the guy's
- 30:19Speaker 3: behind him. I think there's just a lot of sort
- 30:23Speaker 3: of seasoning there. I use that word again, that has
- 30:26Speaker 3: to go on in terms of seeing it route, anticipation,
- 30:30Speaker 3: you know, not getting taking the cheese, like all those
- 30:33Speaker 3: different little things that you know, if you are doing
- 30:36Speaker 3: that in an NFL practice and let's say six weeks
- 30:40Speaker 3: from now, he's doing that and aj Brown's lining up
- 30:43Speaker 3: across from him and he hits him with a little
- 30:45Speaker 3: slant and go, and you're still biting on those types
- 30:48Speaker 3: of double moves. You're you're gonna look silly, like it's
- 30:50Speaker 3: not gonna look good for you. So hopefully, you know,
- 30:52Speaker 3: they can get that cleaned up.
- 30:54Speaker 1: And he's a year older than Gonzales, but like he's
- 30:57Speaker 1: talked about, I mean, he didn't say looking up to
- 30:59Speaker 1: gonzaust like studying Gonzalez snapping so many madls game after Yeah, obviously,
- 31:03Speaker 1: Christiannzalez has done a really good job of the film
- 31:06Speaker 1: room side of it and kind of studying these receivers
- 31:08Speaker 1: and learning the run out. So you know, you hope
- 31:10Speaker 1: that's maybe something he picks up from Gonzalez.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Namdy Obiis or head. He called himself Namdy, so it's Namby.
- 31:17Speaker 3: I'm going with that.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I think it's Obie Eiser, Obie Eiser.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 31:22Speaker 3: One thing, I you know, just again like about where
- 31:24Speaker 3: they were playing more so than what they did. He
- 31:27Speaker 3: was playing that week side role that usually Christian Ellis
- 31:30Speaker 3: is in. That that is exactly how I see him,
- 31:33Speaker 3: and I assume that that's where we're headed with. This
- 31:35Speaker 3: is sort of like a week sidelinebacker, developmental player, obviously
- 31:40Speaker 3: a guy that could probably be a core special teamer,
- 31:43Speaker 3: you know, basically the pat that Christnellis has taken in
- 31:46Speaker 3: his NFL career, they profiled pretty similarly. They're playing similar spots. Again,
- 31:51Speaker 3: not a guy that necessarily flashed one way or the other.
- 31:54Speaker 3: But I thought it was notable that that's where they
- 31:56Speaker 3: were starting him, and that's where they're gonna put him
- 31:59Speaker 3: in these practice and we'll see where it goes from there.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think he pretty much nailed it.
- 32:04Speaker 1: I think that's it. He's here. They're gonna develop him
- 32:07Speaker 1: as a coverage linebacker special teams upside a little bit
- 32:11Speaker 1: on the on the smaller side, but sometimes for those
- 32:13Speaker 1: coverage linebackers it's you know, it helps with the movement skills.
- 32:15Speaker 3: I think they think you worry about with him in
- 32:17Speaker 3: terms of his size is he doesn't have a very
- 32:20Speaker 3: He's not very long, so like when you're dropping over
- 32:23Speaker 3: the middle of the field, like you'd like your linebackers
- 32:25Speaker 3: to be able to almost like a goalie in soccer,
- 32:27Speaker 3: like cast like a wide neck gives you a little
- 32:29Speaker 3: more ring, yeah, right to like have to throw around them.
- 32:31Speaker 3: And he doesn't necessarily have that, uh jam Miller running
- 32:35Speaker 3: back very like almost Dion Lewisy like a squatty, you know.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Explosive Lewis.
- 32:42Speaker 1: He's he's got some mass.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Yeah, but he was like like you know exactly what
- 32:46Speaker 3: I kind of expected. He's what like five nine five ten, right,
- 32:48Speaker 3: he's not a tall yeah.
- 32:50Speaker 1: But Dion Lewis was what one hundred and seventy pounds.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Dion Lewis though like he was bigger than his that
- 32:56Speaker 2: he like played bigger than his measurement.
- 32:59Speaker 1: I don't think so he was quick. He was a
- 33:00Speaker 1: jenner bo Dean Lewis who by the way, is the
- 33:02Speaker 1: assistant running backs coach at Alvin You now that's kind
- 33:04Speaker 1: of nice. Dean Lewis was one ninety five. Yes, okay,
- 33:07Speaker 1: never mind, Yeah, he was like the one seventies. I
- 33:10Speaker 1: think Jan Miller's a little taller five ten, two ten.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Jim Miller's got like more of a Doug Martin build
- 33:16Speaker 1: to me.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Doug nice, good pull.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I don't want to hate on a guy for Ricky minicamp,
- 33:21Speaker 1: but they do that Doug Martins five nine two.
- 33:23Speaker 2: They do that tackling drill. We see the Patriots do
- 33:25Speaker 2: this drill.
- 33:26Speaker 3: I've seen the Patriots since Mike Raywell was hired probably
- 33:29Speaker 3: do this drill one hundred times.
- 33:30Speaker 1: It's it's like a non contact Oklahoma basically.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Yeah, great way to put it.
- 33:35Speaker 3: So they put the they each like are they're back
- 33:39Speaker 3: to back basically where the defender is facing one way
- 33:43Speaker 3: the offensive player is facing the other. They toss a
- 33:45Speaker 3: ball to the offensive player. He does like a banana curl.
- 33:48Speaker 3: He like loops around. The defensive player loops around, and
- 33:51Speaker 3: they meet in the middle like an Oklahoma. They don't
- 33:53Speaker 3: actually hit, but they wrap and they and they take
- 33:56Speaker 3: the right.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Douche Week over here and do it.
- 33:58Speaker 2: No, we should not, wait, they do. They do the
- 34:00Speaker 2: right angle.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Sure, the offensive players obviously making a guy missing the
- 34:06Speaker 3: phone booth. The defensive player is not only trying to
- 34:09Speaker 3: wrap the guy, but he's also trying to take the
- 34:11Speaker 3: right angle and play the right lever. Yeah, like all
- 34:15Speaker 3: that good stuff as well. Watching Jan Miller try to
- 34:18Speaker 3: make a guy miss in a phone booth was not great.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Now, Jim Miller's more of a run three than run
- 34:22Speaker 1: by you guy.
- 34:23Speaker 2: But I thought that, like at Alabama, I thought he
- 34:25Speaker 2: had a little bit of a jump cut to his game,
- 34:27Speaker 2: you know, like I thought there was some jump cut
- 34:29Speaker 2: ability there. It did not translate in this particular joke.
- 34:33Speaker 2: It was one drill.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Yeah, he took like two reps, but he did it.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Did not decide the side movement, did not.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Just seeing the way he runs with the ball, see
- 34:42Speaker 1: the way he's built, I want to see him run
- 34:44Speaker 1: through a guy rather than run around a guy.
- 34:46Speaker 3: I thought Miles Montgomery looked a little bit like smoother.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I thought jam Miller looked a little bit more literally explosive.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Miles Montgomery looked a little looser, you know, like somebody
- 34:55Speaker 3: that was a little bit more fluid with his movements
- 34:59Speaker 3: and then last draft pick here, Hugh Hutchins. The team
- 35:03Speaker 3: released a statement about him this morning. We're not going
- 35:06Speaker 3: to go too far into that.
- 35:07Speaker 7: Uh.
- 35:08Speaker 3: He practiced a little bit, uh, but then was hurt,
- 35:11Speaker 3: made about midway through practice, left practice. So not much
- 35:15Speaker 3: else to add to that right now with that situation,
- 35:18Speaker 3: So we'll see how that plays out. The UDFASU Kyle
- 35:22Speaker 3: Dixon kind of the star of the show, if you will,
- 35:24Speaker 3: among the udf as, the wide receiver from Colver Stockton.
- 35:28Speaker 3: But they did also sign to tryout players that are
- 35:32Speaker 3: also undrafted rookies, Peter Manua Manu. I'm not going to
- 35:36Speaker 3: be able to do this, Manamua Manuma.
- 35:40Speaker 1: I thought that was it.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Manuma and from Hawaiian Xavery Holmes, from James Madison.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Let's talk about all three. Let's start with Dixon. NOA, okay,
- 35:50Speaker 2: I don't know why that was so difficult for me.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Who knows.
- 35:54Speaker 7: Well.
- 35:54Speaker 1: They had that other guy, that defensive tackle we were
- 35:56Speaker 1: talking about the oh I kind of wanted them to
- 35:59Speaker 1: sign it.
- 35:59Speaker 2: He's huge.
- 36:00Speaker 1: He is a big dude. The guy from f IU.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what we're gonna call him, the guy, The
- 36:04Speaker 3: guy from f y f I U because I can't
- 36:07Speaker 3: not even gonna try.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Hang on, I have it right. Well, maybe he's one
- 36:09Speaker 1: that like comes back around at some point, yeah, hang on.
- 36:14Speaker 3: I think it was like Ola something or other going. Yeah,
- 36:17Speaker 3: I'm gonna call him Ola from f IU. That's what
- 36:20Speaker 3: I'm gonna call him.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Ola sukmi ag loke. He was. He was a big,
- 36:26Speaker 1: big often referred to by off virgub nicknames. Sue.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Oh, well that's a lot easier than there's other name.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Yeah, No, he's big boy.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Where are you at with Kyle Dixon?
- 36:37Speaker 3: Are we are we a full eft chisholm uh star
- 36:41Speaker 3: of the summer freight train yet?
- 36:44Speaker 2: Or are we are we cool and off? On that one?
- 36:46Speaker 1: I'll say the same thing I said about Chism, Like
- 36:48Speaker 1: I remember I didn't get hot and bothered about fon
- 36:50Speaker 1: Chism last year because it's just like I need to
- 36:54Speaker 1: see more. I need to see it against high level competition.
- 36:57Speaker 1: It's also the thing this year, I there just might
- 37:00Speaker 1: not be a path for UDFA receiver to make the team.
- 37:02Speaker 2: I don't see it, especially if AJJ.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Brown's here. Yea, you know there's some more of these
- 37:07Speaker 1: stuff on Diggs rumblings. Now, But if it's so, who's
- 37:11Speaker 1: gonna be here?
- 37:12Speaker 8: A J.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Brown, mccollins, Kyle Williams, I'm gonna forget somebody, A J.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Brown, Romeo, Dobbs Romeo, Well, no, definitely gonna be here.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Definitely gonna be here, Kyle Collins. So I think you
- 37:29Speaker 3: could maybe take Hollins. I think you can maybe take
- 37:31Speaker 3: Booty out of that list. And I'm not saying that
- 37:34Speaker 3: they're all gonna make the team, but I would say
- 37:37Speaker 3: in camp you might have seven guys for six spots
- 37:41Speaker 3: right already and not including any of these, Okay, like
- 37:45Speaker 3: they have.
- 37:45Speaker 1: To beat out Chisholm or pop. But the reality is,
- 37:48Speaker 1: if you have a J. Brown, if you have Mac Collins,
- 37:50Speaker 1: you have Kyle Williams. These are all outside guys. Yeah,
- 37:53Speaker 1: the path to make it is an inside guy. So
- 37:55Speaker 1: maybe that helps a Cameron Dorner or Nick Dejon Arrow.
- 37:58Speaker 1: It's gonna be even tougher for Dixon, I think is
- 38:00Speaker 1: going to be here. If he doesn't make the team,
- 38:02Speaker 1: He's gonna be on the practice squad, similar to C. J.
- 38:04Speaker 1: DePree last year, who got the same kind of UDFA bonus.
- 38:06Speaker 1: But like when we talk about maybe these guards or
- 38:10Speaker 1: the safeties or the defensive tackles. There's just such a
- 38:13Speaker 1: clear path. There's a spot needed to fill on the roster.
- 38:17Speaker 1: That's not the case a wide receiver. They're in good shape.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I agreed.
- 38:19Speaker 3: I mean, if they get AJ Brown, and you know,
- 38:23Speaker 3: we're gonna probably get plenty of calls and emails. I'm
- 38:25Speaker 3: already seen the emails come in about AJ Brown and Diggs.
- 38:28Speaker 3: If they get AJ Brown, this is honestly one of
- 38:30Speaker 3: the best receiving cores that they've had in a long
- 38:34Speaker 3: long time. Yes, like I said yesterday, probably like the
- 38:37Speaker 3: twenty seventeen Patriots, you know, and then going into Brandon
- 38:41Speaker 3: Cooks with Julian Edelman Gronk at tight end, like that
- 38:43Speaker 3: was an elite group, right, This isn't quite.
- 38:46Speaker 2: That because you don't have a well, you don't have
- 38:48Speaker 2: a Gronk, so you know you don't have.
- 38:50Speaker 1: I mean a Browny got Brown and Digs?
- 38:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean I think Dobbs.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Is your top three, Matt Collins, Kyle Williams mixing.
- 38:58Speaker 3: I want to get to that in the second because
- 39:00Speaker 3: we were debating that yesterday on PU. Let's just stick
- 39:03Speaker 3: with the udfas for now. And then we'll circle back
- 39:05Speaker 3: to that.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Uh.
- 39:06Speaker 3: Kyle Dixon. The one thing I you know, the two
- 39:08Speaker 3: things I would say about Kyle Dixon.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Uh.
- 39:10Speaker 2: The first thing I thought out of him basically the.
- 39:13Speaker 3: Guys that were on the field at that position, him, Kibble, Dorner, Dejonio,
- 39:19Speaker 3: he looked the most like an at NFL wide receiver
- 39:21Speaker 3: just his body. Uh uh Dixon like just like physically
- 39:27Speaker 3: like he's a six two two twenty like looks the part.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Where's the suit? I thought the other guys looked a
- 39:32Speaker 3: little small, to be honest, like and not like yeah,
- 39:35Speaker 3: I mean the receivers, yeah, you.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Know it didn't fill it out like he did.
- 39:39Speaker 3: I thought he was like explosive in his movements, like
- 39:42Speaker 3: you could kind of hear it and see it that
- 39:44Speaker 3: he has a little bit of physicality and explosiveness to him.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Attacked the ball pretty well. There's a couple that were
- 39:50Speaker 2: not great throws.
- 39:51Speaker 3: One of them in particular, was like on a quick
- 39:53Speaker 3: hitch that was over his head that he had to
- 39:55Speaker 3: climb the ladder, go up and get so the athleticism,
- 39:59Speaker 3: you know, the off the butt smeasurables like that checked
- 40:02Speaker 3: that box. Seeing him for the first time you wondered
- 40:05Speaker 3: about that because of where he played, right Like, It's
- 40:07Speaker 3: not like we're talking about.
- 40:09Speaker 2: A UDFA that played in the SEC, so you see
- 40:12Speaker 2: those things.
- 40:13Speaker 3: I think that's the best compliment I can give to
- 40:15Speaker 3: him right now is that he, out of the four guys,
- 40:18Speaker 3: his body type, his movements looked the most like an
- 40:21Speaker 3: NFL wide receiver in a rookie mini camp practice. I
- 40:25Speaker 3: wish that we could have seen him against like a
- 40:26Speaker 3: top one hundred guy, you know, like somebody that was
- 40:28Speaker 3: drafted higher. But we didn't have that luxury. But you know,
- 40:31Speaker 3: that's what stood out to me about Dixon was just
- 40:34Speaker 3: he looks the part of being on an NFL run.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, stood apart from the other receivers.
- 40:39Speaker 3: What did you see from the two guys that they signed.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I honestly, Xavier Homes did not flash too much to me.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Xavier Holmes. I mean, it's tough for those line of
- 40:45Speaker 1: scrimmage guys in this kind of self.
- 40:47Speaker 3: The only think that flashed to me about him is
- 40:48Speaker 3: that he was wearing fifty one at practice.
- 40:50Speaker 1: That that that kind of stood out to me. Why
- 40:53Speaker 1: it was Drod Mayo's number.
- 40:54Speaker 9: Fair.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Yeah, Manu was a really smooth mover. Yeah, he's fast,
- 40:59Speaker 1: really smooth naturally, He's not just fast, he can change direction,
- 41:03Speaker 1: he tracks the ball. Well, he's a guy that in
- 41:08Speaker 1: high school, he's a highly you know he was. He
- 41:11Speaker 1: went to I think it's the Chaidler School. Like there's
- 41:15Speaker 1: been some other NFL players out of that school. That's
- 41:16Speaker 1: like a known pipeline. Yeah, went to I've been in
- 41:21Speaker 1: high school. He played running back, tight end, linebacker, corner,
- 41:24Speaker 1: and safety. So he was just an athlete and tore
- 41:27Speaker 1: it up. And then he was a four year player,
- 41:30Speaker 1: three year starter at Hawaii, multi year team captain, multi
- 41:33Speaker 1: year All Mountain West. Like a guy that just kind
- 41:36Speaker 1: of hit the ground running and has always kind of
- 41:38Speaker 1: found a way to make an impact. So you like
- 41:42Speaker 1: to see that from guys they're gonna need they like
- 41:45Speaker 1: safety depths in need. Yeah, they don't have a ton there.
- 41:48Speaker 1: And if he has maybe some upside, like he's definitely
- 41:51Speaker 1: gonna be able to play special teams. He's totally got
- 41:53Speaker 1: special teams to make up six foot two, twenty good size,
- 41:57Speaker 1: he's gonna have a chance. I think he's gonna have
- 41:58Speaker 1: a chance to make a team. I do, so I
- 42:01Speaker 1: liked what I saw and clearly they did too, and
- 42:03Speaker 1: I'll be to ask Rabel when we talk to them next,
- 42:05Speaker 1: like what he saw specifically in them. But yeah, I
- 42:09Speaker 1: like that one. I think that's the kind of guy
- 42:11Speaker 1: like you want to get a longer look at.
- 42:13Speaker 3: So definitely can see like he's one of those guys,
- 42:17Speaker 3: not to use a cliche, that kind of like plays
- 42:18Speaker 3: with his hair on fire, Like he just plays fast and.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Flies to the football.
- 42:22Speaker 3: I'm sure just based off of the fact that he
- 42:24Speaker 3: got signed to this contract and skill set and what
- 42:27Speaker 3: he looked like in college, he's probably a pretty quick study.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Like I assumed that he learned it and picked it
- 42:32Speaker 3: up pretty quickly for all these things to happen.
- 42:34Speaker 1: So you're right.
- 42:35Speaker 3: You know, at safety it's Byered, it's Craig Woodson del Pettis.
- 42:41Speaker 3: They signed Mike Brown as a free agent, kind of
- 42:43Speaker 3: a lesser known free agent John Saunders, and now Manua.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Why can't I say his last name? I don't know.
- 42:49Speaker 1: It's literally phonetic. I don't know why you're struggling with.
- 42:52Speaker 1: I don't know why they have Muma.
- 42:55Speaker 2: I can't tell you.
- 42:57Speaker 1: It just is it doesn't want to You can do
- 42:59Speaker 1: Chad Muma. Right, yeah, but that's just Muma. So this
- 43:02Speaker 1: is just an extra symbol. I don't know Muma and Manuma.
- 43:06Speaker 2: I'm just struggling. Yeah, it's it's tough.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Oh I need.
- 43:10Speaker 2: It's killing me. Like, I don't know if it's phonetic.
- 43:13Speaker 2: I'm not saying that it's logical.
- 43:16Speaker 1: But you're saying you're struggling. I'm just saying sounded it
- 43:18Speaker 1: like that's you can just sound Manuma. There you go.
- 43:21Speaker 2: So they only go six deep at safety, Yeah, right now,
- 43:26Speaker 2: I'm well seven with schooler. But yeah, I don't count schooler.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Uh but yes, you're right.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Uh.
- 43:31Speaker 3: And then we they have Bayern and Woodson are kind
- 43:33Speaker 3: of in their own tier obviously as the as the.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Start, it's who's behind them.
- 43:37Speaker 2: And I think that del Pettis will be here. I
- 43:39Speaker 2: think he'll make the team.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Uh, but Cam Minuma, Mike Brown, can one of these
- 43:44Speaker 3: guys push to be a four safety, fifth safety if
- 43:48Speaker 3: you want to count school you're on the roster. Maybe
- 43:50Speaker 3: even push del Pettis to for playing time, you know,
- 43:53Speaker 3: and as the third safety, true third safety, maybe Minuma
- 43:56Speaker 3: can do it. I think that they like what they saw,
- 43:59Speaker 3: and I'm obvious Lad I watched a couple of his games,
- 44:03Speaker 3: and you know what that was what stood out to
- 44:05Speaker 3: me was more him coming downhill at the line of
- 44:07Speaker 3: scrimmage than him in cover.
- 44:08Speaker 1: He's an intense, intense player.
- 44:10Speaker 3: Yeah, there was a lot of guys in this safety
- 44:13Speaker 3: class that were like that, that were highly touted players
- 44:16Speaker 3: that were more downhill trigger guys like I the guy,
- 44:19Speaker 3: the kid from Miami who I'm blanking.
- 44:21Speaker 1: On Koby Thomas.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Yeah, Jacoby Thomas, the other kid too from Miami.
- 44:25Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Trade trade and Stuke Kante Scott, thank you trade on
- 44:31Speaker 3: Stuke saw. You know, like a lot of guys that
- 44:32Speaker 3: were playing safety in college that the number one thing
- 44:35Speaker 3: that stands out to you is like their downhill trigger, right,
- 44:38Speaker 3: whether it's blitzing against the run. Manuma was kind of
- 44:41Speaker 3: the same way. My guess is that there was so
- 44:43Speaker 3: many safeties in that mold in this class that he
- 44:46Speaker 3: just had a long shot to get drafted because of that. So, uh,
- 44:50Speaker 3: he was, you know, not a guy that was highly touted.
- 44:53Speaker 3: He wasn't in the Beast, you know, it was it
- 44:55Speaker 3: wasn't he was in there. He was in like the also, Yeah, yeah,
- 44:58Speaker 3: he was you know, he had his men. I'm a
- 45:01Speaker 3: little surprised that he wasn't more.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Like a pure UDFA.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Yeah, tryout. The interesting thing with him, he never really
- 45:08Speaker 1: had the one season where he popped, which is what
- 45:12Speaker 1: these teams are really looking for, Like, do you have
- 45:14Speaker 1: that season where you so clearly look above and beyond
- 45:17Speaker 1: the competition, And he never really had that. But he
- 45:21Speaker 1: had four very solid seasons starting as a true freshman,
- 45:26Speaker 1: So I think there's something to be said for that
- 45:28Speaker 1: consistency and the fact that he kind of figured it
- 45:30Speaker 1: out as young as he did. You'd like to see
- 45:32Speaker 1: more growth from his freshman year to his senior year,
- 45:34Speaker 1: and that's probably why he was off the radar. I'm
- 45:37Speaker 1: a little surprised looking back at put him off the
- 45:38Speaker 1: radar that much. So again, there could be something else,
- 45:41Speaker 1: an injury or whatever that we should know about.
- 45:43Speaker 2: But yeah, no, so that was pretty much it that
- 45:46Speaker 2: stood out to me.
- 45:47Speaker 3: I mean, some of these other udfas, I thought Khlil
- 45:50Speaker 3: Jacobs looked kind of like Obiz or like a similar
- 45:54Speaker 3: kind of player. I think those two guys are going
- 45:56Speaker 3: to be in the competition all summer long. We both
- 46:00Speaker 3: kind of clocked David Bloyle was pretty small. Yeah, pretty
- 46:04Speaker 3: small for a nose.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Help that he was standing next to the giant guy.
- 46:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, pretty small.
- 46:09Speaker 3: You were clowning on my boy, Tanner Arkin doing practice
- 46:12Speaker 3: though you were, you were, you were.
- 46:14Speaker 1: He just doesn't change like you said about jam Miller,
- 46:17Speaker 1: like going through that drill, he doesn't change direction. Well, okay,
- 46:20Speaker 1: but he's a blocking tight end.
- 46:21Speaker 2: That's what he is, right.
- 46:22Speaker 3: But if he's blocking and he's running the seam and
- 46:25Speaker 3: he's running a shallow cross, like, does he need to
- 46:27Speaker 3: like be Hunter Henry and be able to break down
- 46:29Speaker 3: at the top of the route and like make most pretty.
- 46:32Speaker 1: He's pretty stiff.
- 46:33Speaker 3: He's stiff, But like does he is he gonna run
- 46:35Speaker 3: routes that are going to ask him to really be anything?
- 46:38Speaker 1: But where's the room for that guy on the roster
- 46:40Speaker 1: they have that it's Julian Hill fair enough?
- 46:43Speaker 9: I I I.
- 46:45Speaker 3: Wonder, and I think we're going to get into it,
- 46:47Speaker 3: you know, in training camp, Like him versus C. J.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Dupree is interesting.
- 46:51Speaker 3: I think they profiled pretty similarly in terms of what
- 46:53Speaker 3: they're good at. I think Arkins maybe a little bit
- 46:56Speaker 3: better of a college blocker and Deprie's a little bit
- 46:58Speaker 3: more athletic, so Arkan might.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Be better than Dupre, but that's you're talking about fourth
- 47:02Speaker 1: tight end.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Now we are, we're.
- 47:03Speaker 3: Talking we're keeping a catch two. We're talking about the
- 47:06Speaker 3: This is we're filling out the practice.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Trust me, the these ones are fun where it's okay,
- 47:10Speaker 1: these two players are battling for who's better. Ultimately, neither
- 47:14Speaker 1: of them is probably gonna make the roster.
- 47:15Speaker 2: But I guess, uh that that's that's what we do.
- 47:19Speaker 2: I mean, you know that's what we do.
- 47:21Speaker 3: I like I said about Miles Montgomery, I thought he
- 47:24Speaker 3: looked a.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Little bit looser, a little bit more fluid than jam Miller.
- 47:27Speaker 3: Maybe a little less explosive, you know, literally explosive in
- 47:30Speaker 3: a straight line. Uh, but I I thought that he
- 47:33Speaker 3: uh looked okay, Uh to me as well, didn't see
- 47:36Speaker 3: a ton and look, interior offensive line play is not
- 47:39Speaker 3: This is not the time or the place for you
- 47:41Speaker 3: if you are an interior or no defensive or offensive lineman.
- 47:45Speaker 3: So Gendarius Morgan was getting reps at right guard with
- 47:49Speaker 3: the the ones. You know, yeah, it was crown over Morgan.
- 47:53Speaker 3: Uh who was at center? I think Rizzy was at center?
- 47:56Speaker 3: Maybe yeah, and uh Lomu obviously on the left side there,
- 48:00Speaker 3: so Jen Darius Morgan was getting reps.
- 48:03Speaker 2: I think Makai Butler was the other guard that was
- 48:05Speaker 2: getting reps.
- 48:06Speaker 3: He was a guy that was here last year on
- 48:07Speaker 3: the practice squad, so not much to stand out in
- 48:10Speaker 3: terms of what their performance, but they were on. I
- 48:12Speaker 3: did see Morgan getting a significant amount of run with
- 48:16Speaker 3: that top group.
- 48:17Speaker 1: They clearly wanted to take a longer look at him,
- 48:20Speaker 1: and I put.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Top group in quotations for those people that are listening
- 48:23Speaker 3: on the audio vers top rookie, Yeah, yeah, which is
- 48:27Speaker 3: I don't know what not saying a ton there. Okay,
- 48:30Speaker 3: So that was rookie Mini camp was a pretty good
- 48:32Speaker 3: synopsis there of that, Let's take Patty's call and then
- 48:36Speaker 3: we're gonna hit the brake and then we'll open the
- 48:39Speaker 3: show up to all your calls and emails after that,
- 48:41Speaker 3: what's up, Patty?
- 48:42Speaker 2: How are we doing?
- 48:44Speaker 4: But how you guys are doing today? Good?
- 48:49Speaker 10: So I had a big picture question regarding the twenty
- 48:54Speaker 10: six season and something.
- 48:56Speaker 11: That I heard on Callahan's podcast that.
- 49:00Speaker 10: Damn who gets hosted it? I think Grdi and Phil
- 49:03Speaker 10: Perry were on it, and that is and they didn't
- 49:07Speaker 10: bring this up specifically. They just thought they just addressed
- 49:10Speaker 10: drink may going into.
- 49:12Speaker 11: The second heir of Josh McDaniel's system.
- 49:15Speaker 10: But are we kind of onderating that as fans.
- 49:17Speaker 11: Of sports media, national sports media, because I mean, we
- 49:22Speaker 11: saw the big jump that he took a last year
- 49:25Speaker 11: and I forgot where I heard it, but I heard
- 49:27Speaker 11: it somewhere that this past year he was kind of
- 49:31Speaker 11: just kind of learning on the fly and just playing
- 49:34Speaker 11: even you know, even as as obtuse or not obtuse,
- 49:38Speaker 11: but as as broad as McDaniel's system is, he was
- 49:42Speaker 11: kind of drinking.
- 49:42Speaker 10: Through a fire hose and like I said, but on
- 49:46Speaker 10: the fly and he played great. So is it crazy
- 49:50Speaker 10: to think that he could possibly take like another huge
- 49:53Speaker 10: leap going into the second year of McDaniel's system. And
- 49:56Speaker 10: that's that's the question I got. Guys, will take it
- 49:59Speaker 10: out there.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Thanks for the call.
- 50:01Speaker 3: Okay, it's definitely possible. I wouldn't say that he how
- 50:06Speaker 3: did he categorize it? I wouldn't say that he was
- 50:10Speaker 3: overwhelmed by the amount of information, right.
- 50:13Speaker 2: I think what I saw, and this.
- 50:15Speaker 3: Is just what I saw, was that I think that
- 50:17Speaker 3: there was less information like I think that they're I
- 50:20Speaker 3: think that they went like this with the playbook last year,
- 50:24Speaker 3: and as somebody that studies their tape every single game
- 50:28Speaker 3: of the entire season, by the end of the season,
- 50:31Speaker 3: you were starting to see a lot of the same
- 50:32Speaker 3: repeat plays pop up on the tape, right, like they're
- 50:35Speaker 3: running the same thing. Maybe McDaniels is dressing it up
- 50:38Speaker 3: a little bit differently, and it's tweaked the formation, the
- 50:41Speaker 3: personnel grouping, whatever the case may be. But go watch
- 50:45Speaker 3: like the Super Bowl tape if you can, if you
- 50:47Speaker 3: can bear it, it's it's not a great it's not
- 50:49Speaker 3: a great time. I'm not gonna lie, but go watch
- 50:51Speaker 3: the Super Bowl tape and watch how many times they
- 50:54Speaker 3: run dagger, which is the slot receiver runs a vertical
- 50:57Speaker 3: and the outside receiver runs that deep dig. That's or
- 51:00Speaker 3: that he made to MATC Collins on that one touchdown
- 51:02Speaker 3: drive they put together at the end of the game
- 51:04Speaker 3: that was on that concept. They must have ran that
- 51:07Speaker 3: into Super Bowl like eight to ten times, right, And
- 51:10Speaker 3: I think what they're hoping is it's not so much
- 51:12Speaker 3: that he was drinking from a fire hose or anything
- 51:15Speaker 3: like that. McDaniels has talked about this in the past.
- 51:18Speaker 3: It's like filling a bucket, like a bucket with water,
- 51:21Speaker 3: and they filled the bucket, like, let's say they filled
- 51:23Speaker 3: it halfway last year, Well, this year, they can fill
- 51:26Speaker 3: it the rest of the way. And so now he
- 51:29Speaker 3: does the whole birth of the playbook at his disposal,
- 51:32Speaker 3: and all the different checks and all the different calls
- 51:34Speaker 3: at the line of scrimmage, and all the different protections
- 51:37Speaker 3: and all the different route combinations, and that way there,
- 51:41Speaker 3: maybe they get to the end of the season. And
- 51:43Speaker 3: I do think this was a factor at the end
- 51:45Speaker 3: of the season because if me, as a im media
- 51:49Speaker 3: person can watch their tape and start to see repeat plays,
- 51:53Speaker 3: I can only imagine the repetitiveness to certain coaches that
- 51:56Speaker 3: are watching the tape right, especially the minutia Like I
- 51:59Speaker 3: think that in the Super Bowl, my guess is that
- 52:02Speaker 3: Seattle saw something on their tape about how they were
- 52:05Speaker 3: going to check to slot pressure, and they knew that
- 52:07Speaker 3: if they did this with this guy and that with
- 52:10Speaker 3: that guy, that it was going to open up a
- 52:12Speaker 3: blitz out of the slot. And that's why we saw
- 52:14Speaker 3: Devin Witherspoon kind of take over the Super Bowl. Now
- 52:18Speaker 3: that the Patriots have that ability to kind of expand
- 52:21Speaker 3: on the playbook. Hopefully Drake May has the ability to
- 52:24Speaker 3: have more answers to the test at the line of
- 52:26Speaker 3: scrimmage for these types of things. Hopefully their route combinations
- 52:29Speaker 3: and their passing concepts aren't as predictable. They have other
- 52:32Speaker 3: things that they're going to run and other things that
- 52:34Speaker 3: they're going to go to. Like they ran like four
- 52:37Speaker 3: or five different plays, and they just would spam them
- 52:39Speaker 3: like over and over again. And because they had were
- 52:42Speaker 3: really really good at executing them for most of the season,
- 52:45Speaker 3: and they had good players in those positions, it didn't
- 52:48Speaker 3: really burn them until the competition took a step up
- 52:51Speaker 3: in the playoffs, and then we obviously saw how much
- 52:54Speaker 3: of a struggle it was with the playoffs.
- 52:56Speaker 2: So I think it's a factor.
- 52:58Speaker 3: With Josh McDaniels in the second year in the city,
- 53:00Speaker 3: I think it's great for Drake May that he finally
- 53:02Speaker 3: has it. He really hasn't had it going all the
- 53:05Speaker 3: way back to college. North Carolinas switched coordinators on him
- 53:09Speaker 3: as well in his two years as the full time
- 53:12Speaker 3: starter there. It was the guy at Wisconsin that I'm
- 53:16Speaker 3: terrible with names today. The guy that Wisconsin was his
- 53:19Speaker 3: first coordinator, Phil Longo and then he had another coordinator.
- 53:24Speaker 3: Scott Chadwick was his coordinator the second year. I think
- 53:28Speaker 3: it's Scott definitely Chadwick, and he was his second year
- 53:34Speaker 3: and they had to change that, you know, one year
- 53:37Speaker 3: to the next, and they changed.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Systems on him.
- 53:39Speaker 3: This is the first time in a while that he
- 53:41Speaker 3: hasn't had to change systems. So I think that that's
- 53:43Speaker 3: going to pay huge dividends for him. But I don't
- 53:47Speaker 3: think that last year it was necessarily that it was
- 53:50Speaker 3: they were overloading him with information and it was too
- 53:52Speaker 3: much for him to absorb. I think they pulled back
- 53:55Speaker 3: on what they gave him so that he could handle
- 53:58Speaker 3: all of it. I think this year, too, there's gonna
- 54:00Speaker 3: be less leeway, like if he makes a mistake. I
- 54:04Speaker 3: don't think that last year they might have overlooked some
- 54:06Speaker 3: of the mistakes because it was his first year in
- 54:10Speaker 3: the system and he's a young quarterback. I think this
- 54:12Speaker 3: year they're gonna coach him harder, and that's a good thing.
- 54:15Speaker 3: I think that could make them better. All Right, So
- 54:17Speaker 3: we're gonna take a quick break when we come back.
- 54:19Speaker 3: I do want to talk about this. AJ Brown and
- 54:21Speaker 3: Stefan Digs stuff. And then we'll take all your calls

- 57:11Speaker 3: don't care about your golf game. I don't care about

- 57:14Speaker 1: I don't care about your kids. I don't care about.
- 57:17Speaker 2: Haven't figured out the kids want around here.
- 57:19Speaker 3: You have to make that very clear, like good for
- 57:22Speaker 3: your son that he made he played well in his

- 57:26Speaker 1: I don't care. I'm sorry.

- 57:30Speaker 1: I don't know, but someone's got to be man.
- 57:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, And you know over.
- 57:35Speaker 3: Here where we're talking about about, I don't know if
- 57:38Speaker 3: we have any golf sponsors, so I don't want to
- 57:40Speaker 3: use brands. But you know, mister, mister Tiger Woods over here,
- 57:44Speaker 3: going out there and golf, you.
- 57:46Speaker 1: Figured out why the brand ping is called ping.
- 57:49Speaker 2: So that was I mean I thought that was a
- 57:50Speaker 2: pretty that was a layo. Yeah, I mean yeah, that
- 57:58Speaker 2: was a layup.
- 57:59Speaker 1: That was a layob. But it's a good sound though
- 58:02Speaker 1: you you flush it. It's it's like baseball.
- 58:04Speaker 2: I wouldn't know. I don't think I've ever baseball. It'd
- 58:09Speaker 2: be vague.
- 58:09Speaker 1: I was pretty bad. But you've watched that. First of all,
- 58:12Speaker 1: you probably never played with a metal bat with a
- 58:14Speaker 1: wood bat. No, I'm saying, like, if you watching a
- 58:17Speaker 1: baseball game and somebody truly barrels the fastball, you know
- 58:21Speaker 1: that sound is one of the best sounds in sports.
- 58:26Speaker 1: The golf that's not quite as good, but it's up there.
- 58:28Speaker 1: Would be what's the best sound in football?
- 58:30Speaker 2: Somebody getting smacked.
- 58:32Speaker 1: I think it's the pad pa, that's definitely, honestly, Like,
- 58:36Speaker 1: that's the helmet.
- 58:37Speaker 2: And yeah, somebody just Sean Taylor.
- 58:40Speaker 1: You just like that like a crack. Yeah, it's just good.
- 58:43Speaker 2: I mean no, I like, I don't want anybody to
- 58:44Speaker 2: get hurt, right, Like.
- 58:45Speaker 1: No, even just even just like you go out there
- 58:47Speaker 1: for training camp, first day padded practice and you hear
- 58:49Speaker 1: the shoulder and the bigger hits. Obviously I'm louder, it's better. Yeah,
- 58:53Speaker 1: that was kind of a no brainer. Do you know what.
- 58:55Speaker 1: The other thing that I really is underrated because some
- 58:57Speaker 1: people might say doink the.
- 58:59Speaker 3: Underrated is uh, when you have a quarterback, like an
- 59:02Speaker 3: actual quarterback like Drake May, when you hear the ball
- 59:05Speaker 3: whizzy through the air, Like that's when you know that
- 59:09Speaker 3: a quarterback's got real strength.
- 59:11Speaker 2: Because when you hear you can literally hear it.
- 59:13Speaker 1: The average fan doesn't get too experience because like you
- 59:15Speaker 1: don't hear that on TV. No, and like even if
- 59:18Speaker 1: you're a training camp, you're probably too far away to
- 59:20Speaker 1: hear that. Like you can hear the pads.
- 59:23Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 59:23Speaker 3: Like when you if you're on field level and you
- 59:26Speaker 3: hear uh, like Drake May on corkadeep ball, like down
- 59:30Speaker 3: on the sideline and it's on the sideline that you're
- 59:32Speaker 3: on and you can see it coming, you can hear it.
- 59:34Speaker 1: You can hear it a little bit.
- 59:35Speaker 3: Yeah, but you hear the ball like kind of like
- 59:38Speaker 3: whizzing like almost like a vortex member the vortex back
- 59:41Speaker 3: in the day that.
- 59:42Speaker 1: It's like a like a baseball or a golf ball,
- 59:44Speaker 1: like you hear it freaking missile. But that doesn't really
- 59:48Speaker 1: come across on TV. No, I don't think I've heard
- 59:50Speaker 1: it's cool, though it is cool, yeah, but no, best
- 59:54Speaker 1: football sounds definitely the pads.
- 59:55Speaker 3: I often think about how much that like these receivers.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: All their hands are all like jangled up from catching
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: passes they got, you know, their fingers are going the
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: wrong way, and their palms are all bruised. And I'm like, geez,
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: Louise that that looks tough. But let's open the show

- 1:00:48Speaker 3: obviously a lot of aj Brown questions Diggs questions two
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: parter one, do you make anything of Kyle Williams deciding
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: to keep eighteen and not going to eight like he said,
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Let's start there, and then I'll ask my second question,
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: So you are you actually seriously looking into that or
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: are you just joking?
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Well, here's the thing. Twice this seat this offseason, once
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: when they introduced the free agents here yeah, and then
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: once when he was on with Kay Adams at the
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: league meetings, Elliott Wolfe was asked directly and the exact
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: term that was used was close the door. Do you
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: want to close the door on Stephan Diggs returning to
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: the Patriots, And neither time he definitively said no. Yeah.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: He didn't say like, yeah, we're still talking to him,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: we want to bring him back, but like he didn't.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: He had every chance to say, like, we thanks to
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: fall and it was a great year, but we're just
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: you know, we're moving on. He had every chance in
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: the world say that, and he didn't. So that puts
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: your antennas up a little bit. And then the Kyle
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Williams thing, like yeah, there's some breadcrumbs there. Now to
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: the Ellie Wolf comments, maybe they don't want to throw
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: him under the bus when he doesn't have a team
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: and you know, potential teams see that and like why
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: are the Patriots done with them? They need a receiver?
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: Like what what?
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: What don't we know? Right? So maybe they're trying to
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: do him, you know, help him out. Maybe it's like, Okay,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: if a bunch of guys get hurt in camp, they
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: call him, so you don't want to close the door,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: but it's really an emergency thing. Maybe they're maybe it's
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: a leverage thing with goals. So that's what I'm hoping
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: it is, right, and it's hey hoping it is.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: Like you know, you're in a little bit of a
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: love trying, right, Not that I've ever experienced this, but
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: you're in a little bit of a love triangle and
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: you're more interested in the other girl than you're interested
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: in the one girl, but you don't want to get
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: rid of the other girl yet because you're not sure
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: about the main girl. So you're just trying to kind of,
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: you know, leverage it a little experience, right, And so
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: you're just trying to leverage it a little bit. And
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: I if I was the Patriots, and I'm not saying
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: they're doing this, so don't put words in my mouth.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: But if I was the Patriots, I'd be keeping that
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: Digs door just cracked open a little bit to say
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: to Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles, Yeah, we'd like
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: to have a Brown, but we don't need aj Brown
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: because we have Digs.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: He's right here, whether they plan on actually are interested
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: in bringing in Digs back, or not being able to
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: say to the Eagles, Oh, you want a first round pick,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: we'll call Steph. Yeah, right like him. There's year now.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I still think the ideal situation is both.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: Okay, so that was my second question.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: But you know, is there is there some meamesmanship with
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Steph Diggs where it's like, hey, man, okay, we want
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: you back, but we need this leverage with the Eagles,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: so like, hang tight, let's string.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: This out a little.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: You don't have to come to ot As. You can
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: go party and do whatever. No, this is like, this
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: is like, hey, if you don't mind waiting a little
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: bit to sign the contract, you don't have to come
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: to O t As. You don't have to come to
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: mini camp. You can go chill and hang out and
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: have fun, do whatever you want. You don't have to
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: be in the building. And so he gets an extended
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: little like spring brace. Right, yeh Will the Patriots used
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: this leverage and then could you imaginett Now we're going
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: totally okay, now own pants on no just the joint.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: AJ Brown Stefan Diggs introductory press comp.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: So let me ask you this because we talked about
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: this yesterday on PU and I I am in the pro.
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: Let's let's just push all the chips in. Let's sign Digs,
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: let's trade for AJ Brown.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: And let's go for this thing. So you weren't there.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: I think last time we did a show, Paul was
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: very against it.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: Okay, the reason why Paul was against it, I don't
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: want to put words into his mouth, but I'm I'm
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: just summarizing what he said as best I can. The
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: reason why Paul was against it was because of the
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: diva personalities. He thought it would be. It would be
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: clashing like it would do. There would be too many
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: coaches in the kitchen. It happens at that position, there's
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: only one football. Now you have three highly paid receivers
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: and Brown, Dobs and Digs.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Are you going to be able to feed all these mouths.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: I joked and was taken a little bit too literally,
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: but I joked and said, throw it fifty times.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: Like now you're talking about it, just just throw it
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: fifty times.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: And Led Drake may throw ten passes to each one
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: of those Pro Bowl receives.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: So you're talking about having Josh mcdanigels brush off the
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: seven playbook.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: Yeah, like, I mean, if you're gonna have the if
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: you're gonna have that three headed monster.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: And maybe Dobbs isn't quite a Pro Bowl.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: No, but Dobbs is a third. Dobbs a high level third.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Just sling it, man, I mean, it would be without
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: a question.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: Pergets ran the ball the ninth most times in the
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: league in two thousand and seven. Well, well they had
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: the lead all the time, so that's that's true. Uh,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: for us, it would be amazing.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: I mean, covering a team with two bona fide like
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: star receivers on it would just be incredible to go back.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: But and I don't want to make too many of
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: these comps because it's obviously very very very lofty. But
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Romeo died a different play style. But like Romeo Dobbs
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: in the Dante stalwarth role, right, like Dante star Wars
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: or Jabar Gaffney, whoever you want to put in there.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: I was always parsonal Stall.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: Me at me too, like as a third guy.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Yeah right, And so if that's Romeo Dobbs and I'm
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: not saying that aj Brown and uh Steph Digs or
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: Wes Welker and Randy Moss, right, but like there, that's
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: kind of the dynamic. So I and sorry, one more
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: for what it's worth. You talk about throwing what'd you say,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: throw the ball ten times to each of them? Yeah? Sure?
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: You know how many targets Randy Moss had in two
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: thousand and seven? I forgot This number is insane, like
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: one sixty five, one sixty which is a lot. How
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: many did Welker have? One? Did you know that? Off
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: top of your head? Maybe? Okay, like that's and then Stall,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: we're still having seventy five. They threw the ball five
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: hundred and eighty times. Yeah exactly. I mean you're just
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: telling Josh McDaniels, go go get that playbook out of
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: the attic and run it back.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Yeah, we know who needs to run the ball. And
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: you have aj Brown and Steph Diggs and Romeo Dobbs
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: and Drake May at your as quarterback, at your quarterback.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Marx Maroney still ran for eight hundred and thirty five yards.
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: Like remindre can run like wheel routs and stuff out
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: of the backfield, will getting the ball somehow, like yeah,
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: where spread in the field and we're we're we're.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: Chucking it man. I mean that that is what we're
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: doing with that offense.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I'm just having some fun comparing him.
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: Hot yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, But I think that you know,
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: that's in terms of the pantheon of Patriots skill position talent, right,
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: O seven is in its own like seven ten, But
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: this would be sort of in that like in the
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: running for that next group, right, Like the.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Ten was the year they had Moss, Welker, Gronk and Hernandez.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: Right, they were rookies, Grounk and Hernandez and Moss was
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: fading obviously that year he was they had.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: All he got traded, but they had all that talent
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: on one team, yes, and they uh and Dean Branch yes.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: And then you know, twenty nineteen they had Antonio Brown
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: and Edelman in one game like quarterly like not even
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: a full game.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: It was like he played like eighteen snaps and Tonio.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: Brown he still put on forty three points. He was, Yeah,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: that was fun. Uh So it already three to be
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: out there. I I.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: Don't think that it's gonna happen.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: He hit eight targets in that game.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: I came around, you know, just on.
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: The surface with AJ Brown and Dobbs, like you can
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: see it very easily fit that puzzle fitting together nicely,
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: Like Antonio Brown or Antonio AJ Brown is kind of
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: the your outside guy down the field receiver. Romeo Dobbs
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: is your inside guy, your chain mover. It's not quite
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: Moss and Welker, but it's the same idea, right in
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: terms of where they're gonna win on the field and
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: where they're gonna line up and all that good stuff.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: Adding digs in there.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: You know, last year he played fifty two percent of
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: the snaps, fifty one percent of the snaps, played a
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: majority of those in the slot. Like, is he the
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: best third receiver in an eleven personnel that you could
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: possibly have?
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: Right, Like, well, wouldn't wouldn't that be Dobbs Or you're
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: saying Dobbs in Brown is your.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: I think Dobbs and Brown would be your base receivers. Yeah, probably,
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: And I think Diggs would be in more of like
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: a passing game third receiver. Eleven personnel, You're probably gonna
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: run a lot of eleven if you have those guys.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: You sure are.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: I mean, what do you think they ran in? No set?
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: I need this now, this is this is.
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: If this would be, it would be like we would
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: not have to talk about them not having enough weapons
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: for the first time and interesting like like we wouldn't
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: have to talk about them not having enough offensive lineman
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: for the first time in eight years.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: Like it would just be like what this is? Yeah,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Like holy crap, Like there's probably the best offense we've
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: ever cover.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: He's still Hunter, Henry's coming off a career year.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: Yeah, Like, yeah, it would be great. I mean it'd
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: be loaded.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Am I drooling a little bit here?
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: Or be a loaded game? Loaded?
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: It would be very fun.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, there's there's no doubt about that.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: Like we covered the eighteen team, which had Gronk on
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: his last leg with the Patriots, Edelman still pretty much
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: peak powers, made anyone super Bowl MVP and had a
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: great playoff run. Josh Gordon for sixteen weeks or whatever
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: it was. Was on that team two years, but didn't
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: finish the season. Well, he finished, you're right, he didn Yeah,
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: he didn't the season, but didn't he come back the
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: next year for like a week or two. Yeah, he
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: came back at the beginning of nineteen. But they when
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: they I don't remember exactly. I think they signed them
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: off the street when they got Josh Gordon. No, they
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: traded for him, oh, because Cleveland still had his rights,
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: and I think the Browns drafted like somebody notable with
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: that pick. So when they had Josh Gordon in eighteen,
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: he was in a lot of ways like that eighteen
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: offense was like stuck in the mud for a lot
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: large portions of that season. It didn't fully hit until
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: nineteen when it really got stuck in the mud.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Also, the Browns took Nick Scott with that pick.
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: I think that was a good trade. The eighteen offense
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: wasn't great either, and then Josh Gordon. I think people
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: under sell just a tiny bit like Josh Gordon wasn't
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: He wasn't Cleveland Josh Gordon. He wasn't the guy that
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: put up fifteen hundred yards and led the league in
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: receiving early on in his career with the Browns, but
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: he brought it outside down the field element that that
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: team absolutely needed at the time, and he was pretty
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: good in eighteen. He had a pretty good run there
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: with the Patriots. I think, didn't he catch like a
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: record breaking touchdown from Brady at some point, like it
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: was like his fiftieth different receiver.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: Or something.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Touchdown and the most different receivers. Also, I got that wrong.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: The Patriots traded a seventh round pick or the Browns
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: trade seventh thrownd pick with Gordon, which the Patriots then
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: traded the Browns got Austin Sebert, who was a good player.
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: Okay, So yeah, Josh Gordon I thought, was, you know,
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: pretty good for where it was in his career. So
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: maybe that team had the eighteen team would rival this
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: a little bit. I mean, you did still have Gronk
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: wasn't quite at the peak of his powers at that
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: point with all the injuries and wear and tear. Edelman
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: was really really good. Hogan was still on that team,
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: Josh Gordon was on that team for most of the season.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: James White, Sony Michelle out of the backfield. That was
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: a pretty good, pretty good group too. But this would
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: be right up there. Question here from Don and Philly.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: Uh he asks who would we prefer to have the
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: opener daytime home away?
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: What opener would we prefer?
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: So the reporting again reporting Kirk manaheen saying that they're opening.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: Who Kirk is that? How you say it?
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: You never heard his name pronounced minihan minyhean. I know
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: it's possible to work in Boston media not know that.
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: Yeah, now he's gonna clown me on his podcast because
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: he freaking bully.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: The guy's an asshole. Uh so he uh, he's know
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: how to announce it.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: He's good like talk about me again for the seventh time. Uh,
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: Seattle in Seattle, right, Yeah. I don't know if that's
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: true or not, but that's what the reporting is. Let's
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: just assume that it isn't not because of anything that
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: I just said. Just to play this game with the emailer, Uh,
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: what would you be your ideal opener? Because my ideal
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: opener is like one o'clock against like Miami or the Jets,
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: Like let's have a very nice home cushiony, let's like
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: blow him out and win the game, like That's that's
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: where I'm at.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Well, even if it is, like I I'll rip the
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: NFL for it. I said this earlier in the show
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: Super Bowl Rematch Week one, bad, stupid, annoying, don't do it?
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: Why don't both teams Uncles and Panthers talking about and
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: they continue to everybody's too tight playing a familiar opponent
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Week one. I remember the players explaining it was like
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: weird because it didn't feel like it just felt like
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: a continuation of the previous season. And that's a big
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: game anyway. I don't need it to be the opener
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: throw that it should be early throw that Sunday Night
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: football weeks three through five is when that game should be.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: I guess I am not.
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: I they're not in this like they're not even in
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: the same conference obviously, so okay, so like it's not
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: a division game, like sometimes people don't like the division
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: games out of the shoe because they're important and right.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: So here's where I'll contradict myself a little bit. As
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: a rule, I would like an NFC game Week one,
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: Week one and two possible, Yeah, because Week one we
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: know as weird as hell twenty four Patriots one in
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: Week one twenty five. Patriots lost to the team that
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: got the first overall pick in Week one, so I
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: want a game with the least amount of meaning. So
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: I guess I'd rather the Seahawks than say, like the Bills,
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: although I think Patriots at Bill's Week one opening the
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: new stadium would be very cool just as a fan.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: But like, give me an NFC game, ideally at home
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: so you don't have to travel.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: So you want an NFC game, But it can't be
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: said not, well.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Not this is one odd specific situation. As a rule,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: I usually want an NFC game. I think this it
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: being the Super Bowl rematch Week one for the league.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: I don't like the league doing that, especially what it's
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: gonna be played on a Wednesday. It feels kind of
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: minor league playing on a Wednesday. This is my other
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: thing with the NFL, that they're playing all these different
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: How much.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: About your your Labor Day weekend plan?
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: So, like, how much is that involved in Let's be honest,
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: let's peel back the curtain like it would there's all
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: of our late five percent. This is what you said.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: This is very much a you take. But like no
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: I said this last year, I forget what it what?
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: But like, there was a Super Bowl rematch last year,
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: wasn't there between the Chiefs and Eagles.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: There was, but it wasn't Week one.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: No, But they were talking about it being a Week
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: one game leading up and I said the same thing.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: That might have been that was late in the year.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: That might have been two years ago, right, because there was.
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: I remember the Eagles won the regular season game and
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: Nick Sirianni acted like they won the Super Bowl even
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: though they lot.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: I think that was two years conference championship rematch. Go
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: for it, Patriots Broncos, which we know it's not going
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: to be, but like Patriots Broncos Week one would be
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: very cool. Not the ideal matchup for the Patriots that onpening,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: that would be very cool to me. Packers or Vikings, Okay,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: like a game that doesn't hold as much weight in
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: the standings, but it's still those are good games, especially
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: Patriots Packers. Like that's a legit game. There's buzz. Oh yeah,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: but I I am I don't want Super Bowl remains
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: that's probably gonna happen.
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: I am totally cool with with marching out in a
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: Tomato can Week one. I like last year it should
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: have been against the Raiders. That should have been a
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: tomato can work out.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: I don't want the tomato can week one. I want
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: the tomato can later in the season when you're banged
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: up and you kind of need. There's something about starting
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: the year one when I want the tomato can. It
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: is something nice about that. But it's weak ones too unpredictable.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: That's why I want the last year.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: They they the last year of the game. They lost
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: to the Raiders. They weren't whole yet. They weren't the
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: Patriots that we.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: So if you're not going to be whole, wouldn't you
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: rather play a game that holds the least weight in
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: the standings. No team's whole Week one, okay, but they're
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: like the road teams.
- 1:16:30Speaker 8: One one just doesn't make a difference in the standings anyway,
- 1:16:33Speaker 8: no matter who you play.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: Or uh, it's very Usually it's very unpredictable, like the
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: DRAWD Mayo Patriots beat the Bengals the Week one of
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: the DRAWD Mayo year. Last year, the Patriots that ended
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: up going to the Super Bowl lost to the Raiders,
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: who were the worst team.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: In the league.
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: So it's just there's not it's no rhyme or reason
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: to week one.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: You know what I want? Tomato? Yeah?
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: Who?
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: You know what I want? The tomato can game. Thursday
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: night football, Well, Thursday night football at home.
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: That is the best ball they us because they put
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: The Patriots played the Jets, the Aaron Rodgers Jets in
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: a Thursday night game Gerromeo's year, and the Jets just
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: blue doors off the Patriots in that game. So the
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: Patriots are owed, like I guess they kind of got
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: it with the Giants. Well, it was out of Monday
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: night or Thursday night.
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: It was Monday night. No. Last year was Thursday night
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: against the Jets against the Jets Tampa. That was the
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: rivalry's game.
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and they beat him pretty good that night. It
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: wasn't it could total blow.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: Up Thursday night football against the Jets are Dolphins is
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: what I'm looking for or I get Do they have
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: any other They don't really have any true tomato cans on.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: I guess the Raiders, depending on what you think of Mendoza,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: but they don't really have any true I think schedules
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: a little easier than people are making it, but they
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: don't have any true tomato cans on here because The
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: thing is like, even if you.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: Think you know the schedule is uh, I agree with that,
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: So you don't.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: Think the Jags are tomato can Like it's still a
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: road game on a Thursday night if you.
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: Go based off of last year's when percentages is the
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: bane of my existence and just the worst way to
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: do it.
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: They have a pretty hard schedule. I think they're sixth toughest.
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: If you go buy Vegas win Total or some of
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: the analytic models, it's like more middle of the road.
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: I think Vegas win Totals has it at twelve. It's
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: not a small thing. And I know people know this,
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: but like, you play four games against the Jets and
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: the Dolphins, right, and then you also are going to
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: play the Raiders. So even though they lost the Raiders
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: last year. I know they lost the Raiders last year
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: in the opener, we just talked about it. They didn't
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: have Christian Zalez. It was wonky. It was a weird game.
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: It was Mike Rabel's very first game as the coach
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: of the Patriots. It was not what the Patriots we're
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: hoping are going to hit the ground running from last
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: year Patriots that we're going to see in week one
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: of September this year, those are, in my opinion, that's
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: five free wins. In theory, you need nine or ten
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: wins to make the playoffs, right, let's call it ten
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: just to be generous here. Way there, just by playing
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: two teams in your division twice. So, like, even though
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: it is harder than last year, no doubt about it,
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: you still have some some games in there that should
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: be extremely winnable, like layup kind of wins. And so
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: then even if you if you play those five games
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: and you go five and oher in your four games
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: against the Jets, the Dolphins, in the one game against
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: the Raiders, then then that means that you have to
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: go what like five hundred the rest of the way
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: basically against everybody else to to have ten wins and
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: make the playoffs. Like that seems pretty doable. So it's
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: a it's not it's one hundred percent of harder schedule.
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: I wouldn't say it's this impossible last year, but.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: It's a it's middle of it.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: It's a it's not like a gauntlet.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: No, no, all right, this email is from Chris or Colt.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: I guess the email says Chris, but his name is
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: cold here and tree word as we say in the
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: middle of May post draft, everyone currently healthy. Do we
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: have the players to just get the one to five
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: yard we need in another year in Josh's system to
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: execute or are we going to see similar struggles? So
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: I think that he's talking about, you know, short yardage offense,
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: third and fourth down, would they call power situations right
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: third and one, fourth and one goal line, which last.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: Year was up and down. I think this is why
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: a lot of these guys are here.
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: Reggie Gilliam, Julian Hill, Elijah Vera Tucker beefing up the
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: offensive line, improving your offensive line. This is when Mike
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: Rabel talks about we had the explosive plays in the
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: run game, but we didn't have the consistency in the
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: run game. To me, the consistency part he's referencing there
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: is situational football, like if we have it when we
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: need it. I think that's why all these guys are here.
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: This is probably the one thing, and you know, removing
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: the AJ Brown from the equation, this is the one
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: thing I'm most optimistic of that they will improve is
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: being a little bit more consistent and a little bit
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: more have a higher success rate in short yardage running,
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: whether that's goal line and that's third and one in
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: the middle of the field, whatever the case may be.
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: I think that's why all those guys were signing brought
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: in here.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: Or even I kind of took that you have to
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: eat it again. But like I think I heard it
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: is like, are they just gonna do a better job
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: of staying on schedule and not getting into these third
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: and longs that they right how many timeslast year they
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: had like third and eight, third and ten third, well.
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: Especially in the playoffs, like that probably wasn't as much
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: of a problem for them during the regular season because
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: everything went well for them.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: They they didn't the highest rates of like third law,
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: they just kept converting them because Drake was that good.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: They were good, but like that's not sustainable. Yeah, So
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: I just like them better as a team that can
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: get how many times do you talk about the run game,
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: Like there wasn't consistency. They would break these big runs,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: but in between that, there was nothing and so they
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: would get stuck. Yeah, and you know, and this is
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: the offensive line upgrades in the full back and Julian Hill,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: and like, I think they're going to have a more
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: sustained run game. This year, they'll be able to do
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: more that, all right, four yards, three yards, four yards,
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: five yards.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: That's certainly as a hope.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: They need more of that stayed run game. And I
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: do think they made a point in their additions this
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: year of like being better at that.
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's exactly what the idea is there.
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: Here's an email from Barton Poll and he's got a
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: bone to pick with you, Alex. Okay, so he said
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: that last week we were talking about candidates to be
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: the Patriots of last year, like the worst of first,
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: you know, candidates.
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: We brought up the Tennessee Titans.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: We talked about that really mad. I said that the
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: Titans playing a weak division.
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: Yeah, he's mad about it. He said, that's exactly what
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: he's mad about. Wile I agree.
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: One of his points is that they play in a
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: bad division. Are you serious, Alex? I know it's a
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: stereotype that the South divisions are always bad, but for me,
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: the AFC South has a better case to be called
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: the best division in football than the worst. The Texans
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: were a playoff team, have the best defense in football,
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: and have a very good offseason. The Jacks won thirteen
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: games last year. The Colts were the number one seed
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: before Daniel Jones' injury. Come on, man, that's just lazy.
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: I am probably in the middle of the two of
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: you if you said that. I don't remember if you
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: said that they were.
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: They play in a bad division or what I think
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: will be that bad division. The Colts are not gonna
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: be good this year. Who knows what the hell Daniel
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: Jones is gonna look like?
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: They lost, you know, players this offseason. I I and
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: I've been a big I liked what the Texans have
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: done and their defense is still elite. What the hell
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: is going on with that offense? You have uncertainty around CJ.
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: Stroud looming over that whole thing. How do you feel
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: going into the year if you're do you feel better
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: about the Texans now or how you felt about him
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: last year? Are they a regression candidate or an improvement candidate?
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: Well, I just I think that they're probably a team
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: that's stagnant right now, and that's not necessarily.
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: May twelve games last year more or less this year.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: If you had to guess, I'd say less. If I
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: have to guess, the Colts won eight games last year
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: more or less this year, if you're to guess same less. Uh,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: the Jaguars thirteen and four. They alternate being good and
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: bad less right, So, And I don't think I said
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: they were the worst division of football. Fight Well, yeah, no,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: they're not the worst of it. They're not the least
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: the South. But like I see three teams primed for regression.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: And by the way, isn't that kind of what helped
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: the Patriots? The Bills regressed, the Dolphins regressed, the Jets
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: the Jets Like, no, I I stand by. I don't
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: know if I said a very bad division. Maybe I
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: didn't need very That division to me screams regression outside
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: of the Titans, and I think Titans three wins last
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: year more or less more right, I think the Jaguars,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: the Texans, and Colts are all may you could sell
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: me on the Jaguars be thirteen wins a lot? Maybe
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: they don't regress a lot, But like I think all
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: three of those teams project to win fewer games this year.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: I don't know what the Vegas totals are, but I
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: think they all project to win fewer games than they
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: did last year. And so somebody's gonna benefit from that,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: and the Titans are right there.
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: So I the thing about the Texans is that their
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: defense is dominant. Defense can keep them in games. I
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: don't know what they're doing offensively, both from a roster
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: building standpoint and a coaching standpoint, And c J. Stroud
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: seems like he's kind of broken. I think they've just
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: like stagnated.
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: Like that program. They came in hot. You know, Nickosario
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: mixed those.
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: Trades for he drafts Stroud trades back up for Will Anderson.
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: Demiico Ryans is like the bell of the ball, right,
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: you know, He's this great hot shot coaching candidate that
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: they get and then all of a sudden, that whole
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: thing is just kind of stagnated. And people talk about
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: the Patriots as sort of being a paper tiger.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: Last year.
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: They dominated the Texans here last year, like they they
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: turned c J. Stroud over five six times?
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Was that a blueprint game? Well, I'm just saying, like,
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: you know, it might be a blueprint game if.
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: The Patriots were considered a team that was overachieved, it
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: was a little bit of a paper tiger.
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: What's that make the Texans?
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: And by the way just because I pulled it up.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: Vegas odds here. According to SI, these were published on
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: April thirtieth, so after draft a couple of weeks ago,
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: but after the draft. Colts last year won eight games,
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: their Vegas total seven and a half. Jaguars last year
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: won thirteen games. Their Vegas total is nine and a half.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: The Texans last year won twelve games. Their total is
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: nine and a half. And then the Tennessee Titans should
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: be on here somewhere won three games last year. Their
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: total is six and a half. So I'm not the
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: only one saying this. All three of those teams Corn
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: Vegas gonna win fewer games this year and they did
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: last year.
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: The Jaguars, you believe in them? Do you believe in
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: Liam Khan?
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: I find it the Jaguars are or circus?
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: Should he keep his headhiled high?
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: I forgot about that. The Jaguars are still unpredictable. They've
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: been for years. The talent on the roster doesn't matter.
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: They're gonna be good one year, than bad the next,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: and good one year. I don't know what the hell's
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: gonna happen with the Jaguars. I don't think they're gonna
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: win thirteen games again.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: Though, no, there's like that. I don't think the Patriots
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: are gonna win fourteen.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: The Patriots probably gonna win less.
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: I look at the Jaguars as a team that still
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: has a little bit of that Jaguars on them.
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: Where like this whole for example, like.
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: This whole Travis Hunter thing, right, they draft, they trade
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: a bunch for this player. They draft Travis Hunter, whether
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: they didn't have a plan for him or he didn't
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: live up to the hype so the plan didn't match
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: what the player was once they got Regardless of the
- 1:27:15Speaker 3: case of all that, the Travis Hunter thing is already
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: kind of a disaster for them. And I know it's
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: only one year in and maybe disaster is a little
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: bit strong, but it's not going great. Like they don't
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: really know where he's gonna play. He got hurt last year,
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: they gave up a boatload of picks to go get him.
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: It's just kind of all over the place with it
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: right now with Travis Hunter. And I'd be the first
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: one to put my I thought he was going to
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: be a blue chip. I thought he was a stud, right,
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: you know, maybe I was wrong about him too.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: They can't really figure that thing out yet. Uh, Brian
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: Thomas Junior was this like really like impressive rookie receiver,
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: like breakout rookie receiver. He regressed last year. He's in
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: trade rumors all off season, like this is Jaguars, Like
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: that's just Jaguars, Like you know, you're doing Jaguars things.
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: And I'm not just totally sold that they have that
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: regime pointed in the right direction yet. So, like I said,
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: I'm kind of in the middle of you and Bart,
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: but I think I don't necessarily look at the AFC South.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: There's a bunch of gang, but I don't look at it.
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: Just again, if I called it very weak, maybe I
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: shouldn't have used very I don't think it's as good
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: of a division as it was last year.
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: So I'm putting us both on the spot here because
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: I didn't really think of this before. But like we
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: all agree, the NFC West is probably the best division
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: in football, right, Yeah, so I would say NFC West.
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: It's the NFC West or the NFC North. Yeah, those
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: are probably the two best, depending on what the hell
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: happens with the Vikings.
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: But the Vikings are always like competent, like they're not.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: They're not.
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: Last year they won nine games. Yeah, so they're not
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: like a complete disaster even with JJ McCarthy.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: Yeah, the Cardinals are kind of a complete disaster.
- 1:28:52Speaker 7: So that.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: Yeah, the the Seahawks, Rams, and Niners are all probably
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: better than any team in.
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: The top ten teams in the league. Yeah yeah, all right,
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: back to the phone. See, so, way, who is the
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: weakest division?
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: NFC South? NFC South, I.
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: Think I mean they didn't the Panthers win it with
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: a sub five hundred record last year or kid?
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so NFC South, they were all eight to nine
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: except the Saints for six and eleven. A.
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: It's not quite like you know, Dan shaughnessy, Tomato can
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: AFC East right now.
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: Because of the Bills, the Bills are still there. The
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: AFC A saying great, I.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Has never been like in its history, has never been
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: a competitive division because you think about you had the
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: Bill the Patriots last year, I guess the Bills are
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: they still won it by two games. Then you had
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: the Bills for like five years, You're the Patriots for
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: twenty years before that, you had the Bills for ten
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: years before that year. The Dolphins, Like, it's never been
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: it's just kind of always been these runs. It's never
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: really back and forth.
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: I actually do like Jeff Affley a little bit as
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: a coach. I thought he was a really good coordinator
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: in Green Bay on the defensive side. I don't know
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: if he has the horses right now to put together
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: a great team, But maybe he's one of those guys
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: that have they're patient, you know, they give him a
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: two to three years, Like in the third year, could
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: he have that program pointed in the right direction.
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: Possibly.
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: I really do feel like the Jets have a chance
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: to not only have the number one overall pick. I
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: think Aaron glenn is maybe on one of the hotter
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: seats in the league.
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: Do you know the last time an AFC East team
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: I'm trying to think I've had a phrase this. So
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: obviously the Bills won it in twenty four, didn't win
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: it in twenty five, but they'd won it consecutively.
- 1:30:25Speaker 13: Right.
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: Do you know the last time an AFC East team
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: won the division without winning it in consecutive years? No,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: two thousand and eight Dolphins. Oh yeah, obviously there's no braiding.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: The last time that the AFC East had three different
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: winners in three years two thousand to two thousand and two, Dolphins, Jets,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: and Patriots.
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: Well that's not happening this year because the Bills of
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: the Patriots are winning that division.
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: The last time you had three before that was ninety
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: to two thousand. The Jets, the Colts, and the Dolphins.
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: It's rough. I mean, the Colts have won this division
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: more than the Jets have, by the way. Awesome fun fact.
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: The Jets and the Dolphins I think combined could have
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: like as many wins combined as the Patriots have losses
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: this year.
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: I don't think that that's like that hot, you know,
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: say that just because I pulled up the AFC East page.
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: Now we're doing fun facts. Do you know where the
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Jets rank in division titles all time in the AFC
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: East keep minds of fourteen division for most of its existence. Fifth.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: They are tied for fifth with the Houston Oilers. Oh nice,
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: The Houston Oilers have won the AFC East as many
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: times in New.
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: York Jets, Warren Moon slinging and around for the AFC East.
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: That's right. And yeah, the the Houston Oilers have not
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: been in the AFC East since uh I think nineteen
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: seventy it was the AFL East at the time.
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: All right, let's get back to the phones. Jeff is
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: in Maine. What's up, Jeff?
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: Hey, what's going on? Guys? So I got a couple
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: of things. One, it's been a while since I've called,
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: so to update you on how Island did. Part of
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: the Only Catch twenty two fantasy football segment got off
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: to a rough start one in three, finished fifth out
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: of ten at a I believe it was eight and five.
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: So finished seven and two, which we will take. Kiven
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: need a new name for next year, but we got
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: time for that. Speaking of the Jags and our favorite
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: sounds in sports, one of my all time favorite sounds
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: was when the Pats played the Jags. And I mean
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: it's true across a lot of sports when there's a
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: big moment, but you could even hear it on the
- 1:32:43Speaker 4: broadcast when Steph went up and swatted that pass and
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: the crowd just absolutely erupted. If I ever come across that,
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: I am watching that ten times in a row just
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: to listen to it.
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: Yeah, in sports, across all of it, we need we
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: need to bring back the crowd. Were on broadcasts, right
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: like TV broadcasts. They they shout. They want you to
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: hear the announcers instead of the crowd, which is the
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: exact opposite of what it should be. Like, let's hear
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: the crowd, not not you know whoever is played by
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: play giving his iconic call that we all care so
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: much about.
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: I don't know about that, Jim.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: Yeah, he loves the talk. He loves to talk to
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: He talks over the moment all the time.
- 1:33:31Speaker 4: He's a big he's a big fan of it.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33:34Speaker 4: And then in terms of Tad's cracking together, I know
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: I've brought it up on this before, but that one
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: time that James Devlin and Tremaine Edmund shit each other
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: in the hole in Buffalo, and it was just like
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: they each ran into a brick wall. I mean it was.
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: It was the only time I've seen two people run
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: at each other full speed and they both just stopped
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: in their tracks when they hit each other. There was
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: there was no win. I mean, I guess James de
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: would kind of one because he stopped him. But still, anyway,
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: that's all I got, and I will aspire to represent
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: Catch twenty two better in the Fantasy League next year
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: than love.
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: Thanks for the call, Jeff, I appreciate it. Mark is
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: back Marks in Connecticut.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: What's that? Mark?
- 1:34:17Speaker 14: Hey, guys, been a little while, probably before the drafts.
- 1:34:20Speaker 9: I just wanted to go over a couple.
- 1:34:22Speaker 14: Of things that you guys, the Eli reard and pick Evan.
- 1:34:26Speaker 14: If I remember correctly listening to you on it, you
- 1:34:29Speaker 14: didn't think that they were gonna pick him. You know,
- 1:34:33Speaker 14: that wasn't their kind of guy, which which is kind
- 1:34:36Speaker 14: of weird because I mean, he's he's got the size.
- 1:34:39Speaker 14: I mean, if he puts on like he says he
- 1:34:41Speaker 14: wants to, if he puts on ten pounds, I think
- 1:34:43Speaker 14: he's going to be a really good athlete in this
- 1:34:46Speaker 14: league and in the offense. And then the other one
- 1:34:51Speaker 14: was a sneaky, really good pick is the Alabama running
- 1:34:54Speaker 14: back towards the end of the draft. I think he's
- 1:34:56Speaker 14: actually gonna be a little bowling ball, you know, one
- 1:35:00Speaker 14: through there. I think he's going to be pretty pretty
- 1:35:03Speaker 14: good on that. And then the last thing I wanted
- 1:35:05Speaker 14: to say is, I know it's uh, we're talking about Patriots,
- 1:35:08Speaker 14: but what's your take on the Giannis antetkoupo.
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: Oh another basketball Celtics call. I appreciate that, Mark, would
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: you make.
- 1:35:18Speaker 14: Would you make the trade, Evan in Alex would you
- 1:35:21Speaker 14: make the trade? Last thing we need to get ninety
- 1:35:24Speaker 14: eighty five the sports up down here in Connecticut, Alex.
- 1:35:28Speaker 14: I'm miss listening to it all the time up in
- 1:35:30Speaker 14: Massachusetts because that's where I'm from. But you know, I
- 1:35:33Speaker 14: know I have it on the app, but it's just,
- 1:35:35Speaker 14: you know, I wish that we had a station down
- 1:35:37Speaker 14: here because you know, it's awesome.
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: So thanks for the call, Mark, I appreciate.
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: We'll get to the honest thing in a second, even
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: though people hate when we talk about basketball. But to
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: his first couple of questions, oh, by the way, just
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: as mom, she lives in Connecticut still or Jess grew up.
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: She listens to watches the simulcast all the time on
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: NBC sp that too. Yeah, she's she's big with that
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: and put it on in the background when she's you know,
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: putting around the house or whatever.
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: Eli Randon, Yeah, I was. That one shocked me like I.
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: Had kind of, you know, jotted him down on my
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: list as a guy that might fit them. And I
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: don't feel like I was totally off base because Elliott
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: Wolf came out after the draft and admitted that there
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: was some healthy debate about that pick. So I don't
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: think I was totally off base in terms of what
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: they thought. The one thing that I think, you know,
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: that I probably should have just ignored kind of what
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: I was the chatter about it and gone with my gut.
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: I do think they really have emphasized catch radius as
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: something that they want to highlight. And he has a big,
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: big hands, like almost eleven inch hands, above average catch
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: radius obviously, you know, long kid, you know tall kid.
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: I think that that element of it probably pushed it
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: over the edge, and with some of the concerns that
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: they maybe had about his plate demeanor and his blocking
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: not superseding the athletic profile and the catch radius.
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: But it does feel like catch radius.
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: And I don't know exactly if this would apply to
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: wide receivers too, but Drake may catch radius. That seems
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: to be a thing like they want to look at
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: guys that are a little bit longer, that have a
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: little bit more of a quarterback friendly frame, a little
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: bit more quarterback friendly targets, which I think makes sense
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: based off the way Drake may throws the ball, especially
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: when he.
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: Drives the ball.
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: Sometimes he puts a little bit of air under it
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: and can overthrow the ball just a little bit and
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: you can like see it in your head, you know,
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: a Matt Collins like going up and catching the ball right,
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: you know, over his head for Drake May and bringing
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: those passes in. So I think that was a big
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: part of what ultimately won out on Eli Raridan was
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: the way the board fell at tight end and the
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: measurables you know, athleticism, catch radius, things like that. So
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: I think that that ultimately is what won the day.
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: Along these same lines here it's an email from Noah Inter.
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: I'm glad he emailed in about this because somebody put
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: me on the spot Alex a couple of days ago.
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: You know, I would like to say to put a
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: name to the claim.
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right.
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: So I have been saying that, you know, Caleb Bluemo
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: would not have been the guy I picked at twenty eight.
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: So then somebody said to me, well who would you
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: have picked?
- 1:38:17Speaker 12: Right?
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: If you're gonna say that, you have to put a
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: name to the claim, very fair? Uh clap back, You're like,
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: if I say it to you, then I gotta, you know,
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: walk a practice what I preach. I think what makes
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: this one so difficult because it kind of stuck me.
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: It did, like what would I have done there? What
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: makes this one so difficult to me is if you
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: were dead set on taking a tackle, there was only
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: one tackle that you could have taken, right, So if
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: that was like really how they felt like they had
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: to go about this draft, then they were kind of
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: it wasn't really much of a decision, Like there was
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: one guy left, so they took the last guy.
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: You know, it's easy to sit here and say, oh,
- 1:38:56Speaker 2: I would.
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: Have traded down, you know, like I would have traded
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: out of the pick, straighted up and got Caleb Lomu
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: if it were me, Like, I think that there were
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: guys on the board at that time that I just
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: felt were better players, like an Omar Cooper junior potentially,
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: or you know, I was a big Casius Howl guy.
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: You know, he ended up going like forty, so you know,
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: maybe I was off unaware exactly he was going to go.
- 1:39:20Speaker 3: But it when I got asked that question, it was
- 1:39:23Speaker 3: hard to answer because if you were saying that we
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: were going to take a first round tackle, well, there
- 1:39:28Speaker 3: was only one option, so like it wasn't like I
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: could have pivoted to somebody else. They didn't have the
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: luxury of sitting there with Ianachor and Lomu on the
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: board and having the choice between the two players. But
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: if you didn't, did you have somebody like that that
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: you like would have taken or who was your second
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: choice if Lomu was your first?
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: Honestly, at that point on the board, I remember thinking Acus, Yeah,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: and they got him anyway, they got him in the
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: second that was I was kind of the same thing
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: with the pick, like, I don't know who else you
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: take in that scenario.
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: Yeah, that's kind of how it went. It fell to
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: that it was not a good board for them. Yeah, no, eight,
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: Yeah that's fair. Do you want to do a quick
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: Celtics minute on his Gianni's question? So I have hesitations
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: on Giannis, I do. I obviously it's it's a little
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: Danny angish to make a trade like that where the
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: ceiling is probably higher if it works right, if Yannis
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: comes in and he's the same guy that he was,
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: you know, when he's healthy and he's an MVP candidate
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: and all that kind of stuff, then it's going to
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: have a higher ceiling than Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum. Right,
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: when's the last time that Jannis was that guy for
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: an extended period of time. When's the last time that
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: Yanna's finished a season for the Milwaukee Bucks healthy.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: It's been a minute.
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: Twenty twenty two, twenty twenty two playoffs against the Patriots
- 1:40:52Speaker 3: or Patriots against the Celtics, I think was the last
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: time that Jannis went wider and wired with Milwaukee. And
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: last year they didn't make the playoffs obviously, so that's
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: a little bit of a different thing. So it's kind of,
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: you know, we talk about it on this show all
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: the time about football. He's kind of a it's a
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: boomer bust move, like it's either gonna turn out that,
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: you know, they hit another level because Giannis is a
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: perennial MVP candidate again and Jason Tatum is an l
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: NBA player, and they have a higher ceiling as a team.
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: There's a lot of really attractive sort of two man
- 1:41:23Speaker 3: game stuff that you can do with the two of
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: those guys. If the other thing that I worry about
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: a little bit with it if Jannie is willing to
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: like play the role that they're gonna ask him to play,
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: you know, he with Tatum, Like he's kinda he's the screener,
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: he's the role player. He's the and I don't mean
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: role player. I mean like he's rolling to the hoop
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: on the pick and roll, not literal role player. Like
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: he's gotta almost be like a de facto center, you know,
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: and like be willing to protect the rim and play
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: inside and like do all that kind of stuff.
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: Is that really what Giannis? Is he game for that?
- 1:41:59Speaker 4: Like?
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: Is that?
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: Because if he, if he is, and I think it
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: could be dynamite, there's also a small green team or
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: a piece of me that just wants to go down
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: with the ship with the Jays. Like we drafted him,
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: you developed them. They've been here together for ten years.
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: Like I I, well, now you have all these like that.
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: How do you get Yannis without trading Jalen. I don't
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: think you can. Derek Whitehouser picks whatever. I'm not saying.
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: Maybe you could, Brad Stevens, maybe could pull off a
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: miracle and do it in terms of the compensation, But
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: then you have a lot of cooks in the kitchen,
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: Like Jalen Brown's already unhappy that he's not guy.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: What would be more fun? Aj Brown, Stefan Diggs and
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: Romeo Dobbs or Tatum Brown and Giannis oh Man.
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: Those are two really good ones.
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: The fandom would definitely be more fun for the Celtics,
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: but to cover the Patriots with those three guys would
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: be a lot of fun.
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: Jannis, to me, would be an interesting test for Joe
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: Mazula because you talk about the role Jannis in to play.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: Are they gonna use him as that kindkind of hybrid
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: center screen role because I think he would thrive in
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: that role. I think that would be a good fit.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: But are they gonna do that or Joe Mizula gonna
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: tell him to go out to the wing and shoot threes? No,
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: which he can't do, but the high level like is
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: Missoula going to let him cut to the basket? That's
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: not a big part of the game, but they don't like.
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: But they have They have done that with centers like
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: Kid that's Kada right now.
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: Kata doesn't. I'm talking about like slash, like get the
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: ball at the wing and put your head down and go. Yeah,
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: Kata doesn't do that well.
- 1:43:30Speaker 3: But no, but I think Kaita is the guy that
- 1:43:33Speaker 3: he's He's set screens and I will be the basket
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: and he catches lobs and like.
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: We kind of heard in that press conference, Brad Stevens
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: hint that the spray and pray three point thing isn't
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: going to be there, shouldn't be their identity anymore, and
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: it's is Joe Mazula going to listen to that? I
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: think it's gonna be one of the big questions this
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: upcoming season.
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: I think that's regardless though, like.
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: The next would make it even more fascinating because of
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: the way he plays.
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: If you add Yannis and then we can move off
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: of this after this. If you add Yannest, then like
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: the blueprint, there is Tatum and Yannis in a two
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: man game with shooters around them. Right like then you
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: put Pritchard in one corner, you know, a Baylor Housier
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: in the other corner. You know, maybe Derek White's still
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: here and he's roaming, you know, as sort of like
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: a fluid player that can you know, be in the
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: dunker spot or be outside or whatever. But you're basically
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: opening the court up for those two guys to play
- 1:44:29Speaker 3: a two man game. And then the threes are still
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: going to be there because the kickout is going to
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: be to the three point shooters like that, that's still
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: gonna so like Yiannis to me, is like just a
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: much much better version of like porzingis like that, that's
- 1:44:44Speaker 3: like the ideal type of thing in terms of where
- 1:44:47Speaker 3: he's going to operate on the floor. I don't know
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: if Jes like Yiannis is a guy that wants to
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: play in transition. He wants the ball in his hands.
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: So is he going to allow Tatum to be real,
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: like really the real trigger of the offense and he
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: he's kind of like the pick and pop player.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: Like is he going to be cool with that?
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: I don't know, but that team would have a really
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: really high ceiling if if everybody's healthy, there's your Celtics minute.
- 1:45:10Speaker 3: If you hated it, you can fast forward through it.
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: I don't care. Todd is in Gardner?
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: What's up?
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: Todd?
- 1:45:17Speaker 7: Hey, So I've already got this answers from you, but
- 1:45:19Speaker 7: I would like this from Barth two. What do you
- 1:45:22Speaker 7: think are they going to run to set up the past?
- 1:45:24Speaker 7: Are they going to pass to set up the run
- 1:45:25Speaker 7: next year? Or maybe something else? And I'd like to
- 1:45:28Speaker 7: hear you guys discuss that, because it just seems to
- 1:45:30Speaker 7: me like they're trying to be a punch in the
- 1:45:32Speaker 7: face team with run your ball down your throat and
- 1:45:36Speaker 7: then make you pay with Drake May. So I'd like
- 1:45:38Speaker 7: to hear your guys' thoughts on that.
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: Thanks guys, Thanks Todd.
- 1:45:42Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:45:44Speaker 3: I I'm always a pass to score, run to win
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: type of guy.
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: That's that's the analytics nerd in me, right.
- 1:45:51Speaker 3: You pass to get a lead, you pass the score points,
- 1:45:54Speaker 3: you run the football in the fourth quarter when you
- 1:45:56Speaker 3: have a lead in your ice in the clock like that.
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: That's my philosophy on it.
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: I assume when you have a quarterback like Drake May
- 1:46:03Speaker 3: and they're talking about drafting athletic off offensive lineman because
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: they want to be able to pass, block better and
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: like all these different types of things, I would assume that.
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: I but I think that that's a very fluid question.
- 1:46:15Speaker 3: Like I think that some games they might be more
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: run heavy, some games they might be more pass heavy.
- 1:46:20Speaker 3: And I think there's always going to be sort of
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: a game plan element to what they do with that
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: type of stuff.
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think it's a game plan, is
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: the best way to put it. Like I don't think
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: it's one. I think they want to have the ability
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: to do both and depending on the opponent and depending
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: on what the situation of the game is. I know
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: it's kind of a cop out answer, but I think
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: they want to be able to do both. Yeah, that's
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: that's when Jos mcgaine's off. That's right.
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: I don't mean to like turn my nose up to
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: the question, but I just don't know if that's really Like,
- 1:46:47Speaker 3: I don't know if they're going into a season or
- 1:46:49Speaker 3: going into you know, a stretch of games and being like,
- 1:46:54Speaker 3: we need to establish the run today. Like, I don't
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: know if that's necessarily how they think about it, you
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: know what I mean saying?
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: Right, well, I think they might go into a game
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: thinking that. I don't think they're going into the season
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: thinking like, we got to establish the run first. In
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: all these games they play, they're going to do it
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: based on the matchups.
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: All right, sal is in Connecticut?
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: What's up?
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: Sal?
- 1:47:13Speaker 9: Hey, guys? How are you great? Show?
- 1:47:17Speaker 13: You know?
- 1:47:18Speaker 9: Last week I think it was I think Alex you
- 1:47:22Speaker 9: were telling you were wondering whether or not there's a
- 1:47:25Speaker 9: conditional a pick regarding aj Brown trade. Obviously, whether a
- 1:47:30Speaker 9: trade can be conditioned on the Patriots making the playoffs.
- 1:47:34Speaker 9: I took a look at the rule book. I couldn't
- 1:47:35Speaker 9: see anything. But one thing I did see, which is
- 1:47:38Speaker 9: probably the answer, is the commissioner has to approve all trade.
- 1:47:41Speaker 9: So obviously, if Philadelphia and the Pats agree to something
- 1:47:45Speaker 9: that's conditioned on a playoff success of the Patriots and
- 1:47:52Speaker 9: they're okay with it, the commissioner has to approve. And
- 1:47:54Speaker 9: if he does, then well, there you go. You've got it.
- 1:47:57Speaker 9: That's my understanding. I don't know if you saw I
- 1:48:00Speaker 9: think differently, but I did want to. I don't know
- 1:48:03Speaker 9: if you saw anything to that effect, Alex, did you
- 1:48:05Speaker 9: at all?
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: Or well, yeah, the commissioner, thanks to the calls out.
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: Obviously, the commissioner approves all trades ninety nine point nine
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: percent of the time.
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: There's never an issue.
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: I can't really remember a time that there was an
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: issue in an NFL trade that the commissioner.
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: Somebody sent me one.
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: So it was Sam Bradford, there was, Yeah, there's a
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: quarterback trade. I was just trying to look at us.
- 1:48:28Speaker 3: Sam Bradford was was contingent on the team. Now, that
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: was a long time ago, though, right, that was and
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: that was a quarterback. Yeah, and that was a quarterback.
- 1:48:34Speaker 3: The only time, and I'm swear I'm not trying to
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: talk basketball, The only time that I remember a commissioner
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: vetoing a trade was Chris Paul to the Lakers.
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: And that was a little different because the league owned
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: one of the teams.
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: Yeah, they owned the was it whatever, the hornet, hornet,
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: whatever team it was that the team was at that point.
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: I don't remember that happening in the NFL, that the
- 1:48:54Speaker 3: commissioner vetoed a trade. No, at least like off the
- 1:48:59Speaker 3: top of my head. Yeah, uh, Eldred, what's up, Eldrid?
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: Hey Evan, Hey bar, how y'all doing.
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: Hey?
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: I got a question for you, because I know everybody
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: keeps saying I hated that pick two, but they.
- 1:49:14Speaker 11: Won't get him to transfer to the right side, right right?
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: Okay, what if crown Over proved out to be a
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: better right tackle, then what you do with so ain't
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: nobody asking that question? Yeah, you know, it's a it's
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: a wondering. I mean, it'd be good.
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: It's a good problem to have. Thanks for the call, Eldrid.
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: That's exactly what I was about to say that's a
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: that's a first world problem. If I've ever heard when
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: we have too many good offensive linemen. Uh, I don't
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: know if we're there with crown Over yet to say
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: that we have to start thinking about it like that.
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: But is there a world you know.
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: It's always When I was talking to Caleb Blomo's offensive
- 1:49:52Speaker 3: line coach at Utah, I was talking to him too
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: about how they settled on Fino on the right side
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: and Lomu on the left, and he just simply said
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: best five, like we just wanted to get our best
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: five out there and where they all were comfortable and
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: where they all could play at a high level, and
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: that ended up shaking out that way.
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: Is there a chance that the Patriots.
- 1:50:11Speaker 3: Down the line, I know this is not gonna happen
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: in twenty twenty six, but down the line, their best
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: five involves all three of those players, Lowmu, Crowdover, Campbell.
- 1:50:20Speaker 3: I guess in theory it's possible. So probably one of
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: Lomu and Campbell kicks inside in that situation. I think
- 1:50:28Speaker 3: we're ways away from that, but that would probably be
- 1:50:30Speaker 3: the answer. I don't I don't think Crowdover has the
- 1:50:33Speaker 3: body type to play inside. He's he's cut like a
- 1:50:36Speaker 3: tackle like he's tall, he's heavier, he's you know, more upright.
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: I don't know if he's got the bend in that
- 1:50:42Speaker 3: ability to play inside consistently. So it's probably gonna be
- 1:50:45Speaker 3: one of Lomu or Campbell. But if that happens, then
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: they probably have a pretty good offensive line because they
- 1:50:51Speaker 3: hit on three draft picks on the offensive line. Seana
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: Vancouver's with you on the Seattle Thing Week one. Okay,
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: he says it's for selfish reasons partially, but he doesn't
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: want them to be the first game either.
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:51:06Speaker 2: I just want I think there's something to be saying.
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: I know they lost the.
- 1:51:09Speaker 3: Opener last year and then went on and when fourteen
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: and three and made the Super Bowl. I just think
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: that there's something to be said for getting off to
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: a good start to seasons. I still think that that
- 1:51:18Speaker 3: matters statistically. It's there's been some outliers recently, but like
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: there was a time recently where teams have started oh
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: and two, like never made the playoffs, right, you know
- 1:51:28Speaker 3: that that was like a death sentence.
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: I don't know if that's as much recently.
- 1:51:32Speaker 3: I think it's gotten a little bit better on that front,
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: but I think that's still possible. Do you have any
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: other schedule predictions while we're on it. I honestly have
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: not seen it, but do we I assume we're they're
- 1:51:46Speaker 3: opening against Seattle. I don't think Kirk would throw that
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: out there if he didn't have a pretty good source
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: on it. So opening the season against Seattle week ten
- 1:51:55Speaker 3: in Germany, probably a week eleven by, I think Thanksgiving
- 1:51:58Speaker 3: is out.
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: I mean unless they get that random.
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: Which I hate.
- 1:52:03Speaker 3: By the way, Like this is something that's starting to
- 1:52:05Speaker 3: bug me about the NFL. It's you know, the whole
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: pigs get slaughtered.
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: Sure, no, this is a real problem. So I can
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: do that whole rant right now if you want.
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: Okay, we can. You can do it in a second.
- 1:52:15Speaker 2: I'll set you up for it.
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: And I swear to God, I'm doing this the third time.
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: I'm not trying to just to do this to talk
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: about basketball. But there's certain nights and days that it's
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: okay to let the other sports have their day, like Christmas.
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: Like Christmas has always been an nbad that though the
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: night before Thanksgiving has always been a just an it's
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: not a it's not a football day. It's you go
- 1:52:38Speaker 3: out with your high school friends at at the bar
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: in your hometown and you.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Get dropped something you love to do. I love it.
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: It's one of the It's on the top of my list,
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: you know. But that's like, I that's what you do.
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: Like Black Friday here in Boston is Red Sox or
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: Red Sox Bruins Celtics doubleheader, right, Like, that's that's Black
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: Friday in Boston.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: The NFL doesn't have to own everything, so it doesn't
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: have to run the otherly is irrelevant to this because
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: the NFL is still king. My bigger issue is part
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: of what's great about the NFL is the rarity of it.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: That's always been what's great. And an NFL Sunday, you know,
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: even to your point, if I talk about like an
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: NBA Saturday, that doesn't mean that doesn't actually mean anything, right, right,
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: an NFL Sunday. And they've already, by the way, they've
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: already said fu kick Rocks to the four to twenty
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: five window. It's maybe three games. One of them is
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: always the Cardinals getting their doors blown off.
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: They're watering down the Sunday PA.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: They have said f you to the four o'clock window
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: for years now. Now, I mean you're talking about it
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: shouldn't be on every day of the week. I get
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: they want to be on every day of the week,
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: but you're getting rid of and maybe the NFL is
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: too big to fail. Maybe I don't want them to
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: test it.
- 1:53:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and you will get.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: Look, they're never gonna be baseball playing one hundred and
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: sixty two games. But one of baseball's biggest problems is
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: there's no urgency in watching baseball. The regular season games
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: don't mean anything because the season's long enough enough teams
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: make the playoffs and it's on every day. So and
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: again this is an extreme example, but they're gonna go
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: to eighteen games in twenty weeks. They're gonna start playing
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: five days a week, and it's it's they're gonna probably
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: add a nother team to the playoffs. The rate they're
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: watering down the regular season, you're gonna have less games
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: on Sundays, spread they're spread out more, and now you're
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: doubling up on the primetime games. The special thing about
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: the prime it's prime time. It's everybody, it's all eyes
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: on you. That's a cool thing. The entire football world
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: is watching this game, and oh no, we're gonna have
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: Monday night games on up against each other on different networks.
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: That takes out the whole it's called a standalone window.
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: It's not a standalone game now. And you just know
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: they're gonna line up to do this on Thursday nights too.
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: By the way, the bread crumbs are there for.
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: That at least start to at least stagger the start time.
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: So here's the and I know people hate it.
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: If you're gonna do the primetime doubleheader, it has to
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: be seven and ten o'clock for the whole point of
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: what a primetime game is.
- 1:54:58Speaker 2: Well, that's like NBA coast to coast. It's you know,
- 1:55:00Speaker 2: there's an East Coast game in, there's West coast.
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: Let them be in the basketball. We don't do that
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: exclusive window thing because there's always a game on, right,
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: I guess maybe like Saturday night Sunday night. Yeah, but
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: I just I am a little worried about them watering
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: it down.
- 1:55:15Speaker 3: I'm worried about I think the Sunday watering down is
- 1:55:19Speaker 3: a very good not just not just.
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: Taking away from the Sunday slate, but also Thursday night
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: Sunday all day, Monday night that and you want to
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: do a couple of Saturday games late in the year
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: when college fine, right, kind of like standalone window, right,
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: the whole calendar is gone. But like now it's all right,
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: We're gonna open on Wednesday, then play Thursday. Are they
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: doing a Friday game this year?
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: They do?
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: It's a Thursday game.
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: It's okay. But then like they're trying to play some
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: more Saturdays. They're gonna play Sunday, They're gonna double header
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: on Monday, and then you know, and then okay, when
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: you get to Christmas and New Year's it's gonna be
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: like four game, four games a week, and it's just no,
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: it's supposed to be an event, and when you play
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: every night, it's not an event anymore. So I would
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: be And maybe I'm yelling about nothing because it's oh,
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: it's the NFL, people always gonna watch, are always going.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: But the other part about it, sorry, one more thing,
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: that's okay. It makes the product worse. The players need
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: time to rest and prepare, The teams need time to
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: rest and prepare. What is going to Australia in Week one?
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: Gonna do to the Rams and the Niners who, by
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: the way, also have to go to Mexico City.
- 1:56:31Speaker 3: Like the Niners got mad that they were going to
- 1:56:33Speaker 3: Australia and the league said, f you, now you're also
- 1:56:36Speaker 3: going to.
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: Mexican You gotta and I profit above all. Fine, it's
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: a business. You don't want to do it. To the point,
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: remember some of those game like Christmas games last year,
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: they forced on short weeks and it was bad football.
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: So I think you got to give these teams an
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: opportunity to actually rest and prepare for these games.
- 1:56:52Speaker 3: Agreed on all fronts, I think that the one thing,
- 1:56:55Speaker 3: and I'm sure that you know, our listeners would back
- 1:56:58Speaker 3: this up. We don't do this where with the Patriots
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: and covering the Patriots games. But I know from you know,
- 1:57:05Speaker 3: my wife and my family like red Zone Sunday is
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: like what they do, right They sit there on their
- 1:57:11Speaker 3: couch on Sundays and they watch the Patriots, but they
- 1:57:14Speaker 3: also watch red Zone. And if you start watering down
- 1:57:17Speaker 3: the Sunday slate more and more and more, now red
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: Zone as an entity becomes less and less interesting, right,
- 1:57:25Speaker 3: like it just that, right, and itself becomes less interesting.
- 1:57:28Speaker 3: So if I was the league, like I think red
- 1:57:31Speaker 3: Zone is one of the most important elements of this
- 1:57:34Speaker 3: whole thing. It ties together fantasy, it ties together gambling,
- 1:57:37Speaker 3: and it ties together like diehard fans that want to
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: see as much football as possible on a Sunday. If
- 1:57:42Speaker 3: you take that slate and now there's fewer games in
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: that slate, there's fewer good games in that slate, Like
- 1:57:48Speaker 3: there were some Sundays last week last year where the
- 1:57:50Speaker 3: Sunday slate just kind of stunk, like it just there
- 1:57:53Speaker 3: wasn't any good matchups, Like there wasn't five games, right,
- 1:57:56Speaker 3: And so I would worry about that element of it too,
- 1:57:59Speaker 3: Like Sunday's still needs to be the day, Like Sunday
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: still needs to have some real ammo, like a real
- 1:58:07Speaker 3: punching power.
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: The thing you always heard about the NFL is the
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: NFL is so powerful that it owns a day of
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: the week, Which was true. Yeah, don't give that up.
- 1:58:17Speaker 3: Well, guess what now the Patriots might open the season
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: on a Wednesday, and then they're gonna have a Thursday
- 1:58:22Speaker 3: game in Australia, and then they're gonna have a Sunday
- 1:58:24Speaker 3: and Monday game.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: I sent you it's gonna be for joke. Earlier, somebody
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: tweeted out all the holidays, the Patriots. The NFL is
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: playing on us like, and the Patriots are playing on
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: every single one of them. They'll have a team play
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: New Year's even New Year's Day.
- 1:58:35Speaker 3: If they think they'll make money off the The Wednesday
- 1:58:37Speaker 3: before Thanksgivick is the one that I just can't like.
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: Why just just why?
- 1:58:43Speaker 2: All right, that's gonna do it for today's show.
- 1:58:46Speaker 3: We'll be back next week here on Catch twenty two
- 1:58:48Speaker 3: PEU tomorrow at his normal time at noon.
- 1:58:51Speaker 2: Schedule release tomorrow night.
- 1:58:53Speaker 3: I think it's gonna hit social media at around seven thirty.
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: I know the official launches eight o'clock is eight a clock.
- 1:59:00Speaker 3: But they're letting teams go early because it's really like
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: a social media event, Like it's not really a TV event.
- 1:59:07Speaker 3: It's more about content on social media and just like
- 1:59:10Speaker 3: get the schedule on your phone and things like that.
- 1:59:12Speaker 3: So tomorrow'll be the big day. I'm sure there'll be
- 1:59:15Speaker 3: leaks earlier in the day that we cannot confirm here,
- 1:59:17Speaker 3: so don't come call in on that. But we'll talk
- 1:59:19Speaker 3: to you guys tomorrow on PU and next week here
- 1:59:22Speaker 3: on cash Pointy.
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: We'll see then. Hey, this is Deuce, thanks for tuning
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: into the show.
