- 0:01Welcome to Season 2 of Go Wildly podcast.
- 0:04We are Emily and Heather, 2 childhood friends who carry a
- 0:07mic into wild places like rivers, trails, and forests with
- 0:12wild people to host raw, honest conversations about adventure,
- 0:16healing, identity, and the transformative power of nature.
- 0:20In this season, we're centering the voices of people who call
- 0:23Southern Oregon home. Outdoor enthusiasts and outdoor
- 0:26professionals whose lives have been shaped, changed or are
- 0:30continually influenced by time outside come along as together
- 0:34we go wildly. Hey, you wildly wonder.
- 0:38Thank you so very much for listening to the podcast.
- 0:41It means the world to us. Okay, I have a little mission.
- 0:45Pause the podcast right here. Make sure that you're subscribed
- 0:48to this guy. Okay?
- 0:50It's going to be a fun time over here.
- 0:52And if you so wish, we would love a five star review or
- 0:55whatever your hearts inclined to do.
- 0:58Also, leaving us a review truly helps the algorithm and we
- 1:02appreciate you doing that. Thank you so very much.
- 1:04Also, little tidbit over on Instagram, we're having so much
- 1:07fun over there. Lots of behind the scene
- 1:09footage, some POV's, and just some fun unhinged content.
- 1:13If you love the pod, that's where we go wildly for sure.
- 1:16So don't forget to follow us over there.
- 1:19OK, back to the show. Thank you.
- 1:31Shake that ass, watch yourself shake that ass.
- 1:34Show me what you're looking with.
- 1:35I got these off of Facebook Marketplace.
- 1:38What? Yeah.
- 1:39For real I'm for real. 15 bucks from some gal in Brookings.
- 1:45My mom. It was when my mom was staying
- 1:46in Gold Beach for that month and she picked them up for me in
- 1:50Brookings on her way home. And those fresh purple lavender
- 1:56shoes, are they lavender? Are they wisteria?
- 1:58They're totally wisteria. Or are they lilac?
- 2:02Wisteria. Lilac Wisteria.
- 2:05Lilac has multiple purples. I guess wisteria does also, but
- 2:10these look more like as well. Facts.
- 2:14Purple is such a spectrum of color.
- 2:20I love purple. Do you want to comment on my
- 2:23purple cup as well? They're all shades.
- 2:25I'm wearing purple. Shorts, bag and my purple hat.
- 2:29Do I have enough purple? Am I purpley enough for the
- 2:32purple club? Purple.
- 2:34Purple. Yes, I'm just a little worried
- 2:39like I'm going to like leak out my paleols.
- 2:44That's gross. I know.
- 2:45I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 2:46I'm sorry, K, that's all I'm going to say for all of our
- 2:48groups, for all of our, for all of our male listeners.
- 2:54We are significantly more female than male in our listenership, I
- 2:57will say. So girls tell the guys to listen
- 3:00to us. We have male guests as well.
- 3:04We actually have this season we will have recorded, we have
- 3:10recorded exactly 17 male episodes and 17 female episodes.
- 3:16And this is the end of the season podcast.
- 3:20We're going to wrap it up here, baby.
- 3:22The end of our. Recording season, not the end of
- 3:24our production. Season.
- 3:27So. No, we will still be going
- 3:29throughout the year once a week. Yeah, we will have episodes
- 3:33running through likely the end of October and then we will take
- 3:36a little winter break from production.
- 3:40Or from from posting them. From from auditing and posting
- 3:47and producing episodes. Yeah, publishing.
- 3:52So for our listeners, thanks for being here.
- 3:55This is our second season of Go Wildly Woo Woo Woo.
- 4:00We just wrapped up our last recording.
- 4:03OK, Yeah. So what we what we did this
- 4:05season was we stacked all of our episode recordings to occur
- 4:11between February and May. Did we do a January?
- 4:15You're right, we started recording in January and January
- 4:20to May. We put out our first episode in
- 4:22February. So sometimes I get confused, but
- 4:25we did. We started recording in January
- 4:28and we scheduled recordings, 2 recordings every Monday from mid
- 4:35January till mid-May being this week of the mid-May.
- 4:40And we did it. We did it.
- 4:43It was a. It was.
- 4:45Long it was work. It was a load.
- 4:47It was a load. We just the load was loading.
- 4:49Yeah, it was a lot. And especially right now
- 4:54building my career too, building the real estate career, it's a
- 4:58it's a lot. That was a lot.
- 4:59But like it worked out. Yeah, it worked out great.
- 5:02And I imagine that it felt better to have just one day of
- 5:08the week a full day of recording, rather than
- 5:12scattering it out through the week trying to find little
- 5:14pockets to. That didn't.
- 5:16Work. No, that's what we did last year
- 5:17and it created a lot of inconsistency for us, a lot of
- 5:23scheduled dysfunction. Which is I think a good take
- 5:26away for anybody listening. Like just start and you can
- 5:29perfect it as you go. Like you will learn the lessons
- 5:32you need to do, you just have to stay consistent and keep going.
- 5:38Make it What's the quote that you have on your computer?
- 5:40Make it exist first, you can make it perfect.
- 5:43Later, yes, and that's what we've been doing.
- 5:44We've made this podcast exist last year and we've been
- 5:48perfecting as we go. Yes, Yeah, yeah.
- 5:51I feel really good about where it was this year and I want to
- 5:54do that for probably next year too.
- 5:55But. Next year, we'll be even more
- 5:57dialed in. This year taught us so much
- 6:00about how to be consistent and focused and.
- 6:04Can we talk in an accent? Sure.
- 6:05Which accent would you like to use?
- 6:11I love, I'm always like, hey, how about this?
- 6:13And Emily's like, sure, let's do that.
- 6:17I can I can do that. Yeah, and also if I think it's
- 6:20dumb, I will say no thank you. I don't think you've ever told
- 6:23me anything's dumb. No, I've never said it's dumb,
- 6:25but I have said write it down. We'll think about that later.
- 6:31Because not because I don't think it's dumb.
- 6:33I think that it, there are sometimes ideas that we're not
- 6:37ready for. Yeah, we don't have the capacity
- 6:39for or there maybe there's been some that I'm like, I don't
- 6:47really see how that fits in with what we're doing.
- 6:50But if you feel really excited about.
- 6:53That my my mailing, my mailing newsletter letter I had an idea
- 6:58for because we're trying to monetize this at the end of the
- 7:00day, right? Like this this is.
- 7:03We are monetizing this. This is a business.
- 7:05It is. And we are currently.
- 7:07Which is I'm going to segue into that because if you have not
- 7:10checked out our promotional partners and gotten yourself
- 7:14some of those perks, you're missing out.
- 7:16And there are absolutely more to come.
- 7:18This is just the beginning. This is just portfolio building.
- 7:21This this season we have partnership with Calvin
- 7:25Livingston with Lean In Breath Work.
- 7:28Wow. It would be great if I could
- 7:29enunciate he's offering a discount to our listeners for
- 7:33his sauna bus. So go to our website, click on
- 7:36the promo tab and you'll see all of these offerings.
- 7:40Oh my God. The train's coming by and it
- 7:42literally comes by like 2 feet from us.
- 7:44Shit, I love a train. I do too.
- 7:49I love me in good train I. Bet you do I.
- 7:52Bet you do. We also have a partnership with
- 7:56Row Adventures, a rafting outfitter, that they are
- 7:59offering $100 off to Go Wildly listeners if they book a multi
- 8:04day rafting trip in 2026 or 2027 you can use code Go Wildly.
- 8:102027. Did I say 2027?
- 8:12Yeah. OK, good, because the other day
- 8:14I called Sierra Sara and I don't know what my mouth is saying
- 8:17these days sometimes I. Well I was going to say, doesn't
- 8:20Calvin also do online breath work stuff?
- 8:23Which do we have a link? I don't know if it's quite that
- 8:26the disc. I got to see the.
- 8:27Code that he's offering to go wildly listeners, I got to see
- 8:31is for the sauna bus. But he does do.
- 8:36Can you see the train? No, I can hear it.
- 8:39Dude, it's like. Loud.
- 8:42Oh, I see it. I see.
- 8:43It I see it, it's yellow. Cool that train tracks getting
- 8:57railed. How do trains stay on the rails
- 9:01so good? They've got little like
- 9:04grippers. I love, I love me a train dude.
- 9:09Like that's have you? Ever ridden a train?
- 9:11Yes, like cross country. My dad not a cross country.
- 9:14You're showing your butt to the camera.
- 9:16My dad, my grandpa was a train. Conductor.
- 9:20Oh, engineer. Yeah.
- 9:22That's really cool. We went on them.
- 9:25Have you ever taken your kids to the Railroad Park in Medford?
- 9:28Yeah, Cruz has been there, not Roscoe.
- 9:30We need to go there. Yeah, I want to go.
- 9:35Take me when you go. There's a Weiner right there
- 9:37next to you. About time anyways.
- 9:44Yeah, you can get a rafting trip with Rd.
- 9:46Adventures and a discount on that.
- 9:49Soma. Soma Southern Oregon Martial
- 9:52Arts you can get 2 free weeks of training and then if you sign up
- 9:57for a membership that helps out the show.
- 10:01We are working on other partnerships with other really
- 10:05cool businesses that you'll hear more about if you keep listening
- 10:10to the pod. And I'm not going to give
- 10:13anything away right now, so just stay tuned.
- 10:16Pretty good, pretty good. Really awesome small women owned
- 10:21businesses that we've connected with that love what we're doing
- 10:24and we love what they're doing and they want to collab so.
- 10:29Collab. We are open to more.
- 10:32This season we really did focus on partnerships with our guests
- 10:36who have services and offerings so that we can.
- 10:39That was the most obtainable. Yeah.
- 10:41And it really felt like a great way to highlight the amazing
- 10:45people that since this season is all about celebrating the voices
- 10:48of Southern Oregon. Yeah, that was a great way to
- 10:52celebrate those voices. Yes, it was.
- 10:54And we are very intentional about the partnerships that we
- 10:59create, being absolutely authentic to us and actually be
- 11:04products and services that we use ourselves and it'll have
- 11:08pride behind. Yeah, we're not here to just say
- 11:11yes to the dress. Yes to the dress.
- 11:17In fact, it's probably pretty rare that we would say yes to a
- 11:20dress. I don't know if I've ever seen
- 11:21you in a dress. Very rare.
- 11:23Would you wear a dress for your wedding in the event that you
- 11:26had a wedding? Yeah.
- 11:27Yeah. OK, cool.
- 11:30I'm going to wear a dress for Kobe's wedding.
- 11:32Nice. Me too.
- 11:33Yeah, I think it's going to be pink, which is going to be
- 11:36weird. Not purple, but.
- 11:40There's a man. There's a man.
- 11:41Oh. My God, look at that cute little
- 11:42dog. He's kind of cute.
- 11:53I'm always scoping out the cuties for because I am.
- 11:56I am a really good wing woman. Yes, you are though.
- 12:02You're just looking at them. You're not doing anything about
- 12:04it. Go chase him down.
- 12:07I said hi and did you thinking that?
- 12:09He waved. Yeah, Yeah.
- 12:11Well. If it's meant to be, it'll be.
- 12:13Yeah, absolutely. And I'm intentionally boy sober
- 12:16this year, taking a break after some less than ideal experiences
- 12:23last year. If you know, you know.
- 12:27And yeah, intentionally boy sober this year.
- 12:31This is the closest I've been to a penis in months and it's just
- 12:33painted on the wall. Oh, I should be getting that on
- 12:35video. Well, they can't see the penis.
- 12:40Oh, they might be able to, but it's pretty small.
- 12:45Well, I, I mean, I guess it's average.
- 12:47It's pretty thick, but otherwise it's pretty drippy, which is not
- 12:55a good sign. Anyways, it's.
- 12:58Very girthy. Some girth Brooks right there.
- 13:01It's a little beer can. OK.
- 13:05Anyways, so back to what we've been doing this season.
- 13:09So we've finished all of our recordings rather than a couple
- 13:12of random ones that are scattered through the summer.
- 13:16And one part part of why we did this recording stacking at the
- 13:22front end of the year is that I work as a river guide over the
- 13:26summer and my season starts in five days.
- 13:30So it's just not practical for me to be a.
- 13:33Zookeeper during the summer time.
- 13:37Did you know that? It's a fact.
- 13:39It's a fact. It's a fact.
- 13:40I'm a zookeeper for my wild children.
- 13:44Yeah, so our summer lives are just a little too busy this
- 13:49current season of our lives and do.
- 13:51Anything outside and our shit over heat like we we have to
- 13:55like we're out here in the elements.
- 13:57Yeah, we're not in a studio, as you know.
- 13:59And so we do have to be considerate of weather.
- 14:02The temperature, the rain, the climate.
- 14:05It's the climate. It was such a good recording
- 14:08season. It really was.
- 14:10Tell me. Yeah.
- 14:11Tell me about it for you. Well, I do think I hit like a
- 14:16little bit of a wall maybe a month ago.
- 14:19And I was like, fuck, bro. I was like, I really had to
- 14:22evaluate like internally, I did not tell you this, this is fresh
- 14:26news. But I was like, am I doing this
- 14:28podcast? But then I stuck with it and
- 14:32more things started to like happen.
- 14:34And I started to see like, more like light at the end of the
- 14:37tunnel for recording, but also just like light at the end of my
- 14:42tunnel personally. And like feeling.
- 14:45Yeah. And just like feeling less of a
- 14:48winter wait, you know, coming more into like better weather,
- 14:53opening up doors. It was literally, it's like a
- 14:56all around felt better. It just felt better.
- 15:01And that also made me feel better about everything.
- 15:05And then I got to reflect upon the few months prior to that and
- 15:10I was like, Oh my God, like, we're doing it.
- 15:14And that made that gave me a lot of momentum and positive
- 15:18positivity and like kept me going to the end.
- 15:22Truly, I'm so glad. I'm glad you powered through
- 15:23that. Yeah, no, I there was some, but
- 15:26I was also pretty busy this winter really trying to do some
- 15:29things. And now I've found my cadence
- 15:32with some things like the gas is not necessarily off my foot is
- 15:39not off the gas with like real estate per SE, but like I got a
- 15:42few under me. I kind of feel that.
- 15:44I feel like what I'm doing, I know what I'm doing kind of sort
- 15:47of like you never really know what you're doing.
- 15:49But like I feel like I have a grasp on things.
- 15:51I've made some money. I'm not as like desperate for
- 15:54money and you know. Yeah, you've made some great
- 15:57connections and you have some really awesome colleagues who
- 16:01are in your corner and love all of the things that you do.
- 16:04They see you as more than just a realtor.
- 16:07They see you as podcast host and food reviewer and mother and
- 16:12wife and mountain biker. And I think that really helps in
- 16:16the way that they're able to support you and show up for you
- 16:19and celebrate you. Yeah, no, yeah, I definitely had
- 16:23a moment this season with but I'd I have that a lot and I
- 16:28need. I know that it was best and I
- 16:31know all along I was going to power through it.
- 16:33But I know I hit I know that I have a wall at some point with
- 16:37everything I do, literally everything, even like a mid bike
- 16:40ride wall I'll have and I'm like, right, if I just
- 16:43breakthrough that wall, the the other side of that wall is so
- 16:48glorious that I just have to remember that while doing the
- 16:53thing. Absolutely, whether it's.
- 16:55A break on through to the other side, Heather.
- 16:57Break on through. To the other side.
- 16:59Break on through to the other side.
- 17:01Cuz there's something good over there.
- 17:03Even if it's an hour long trail run.
- 17:05Yeah. Even if it's a what would we do?
- 17:084 month, 5 month recording? Yeah, five months of recording
- 17:12it. Whatever it is, you will get to
- 17:15the other. Side and I think for the
- 17:17recording what really I'm assuming helped you was that not
- 17:23only could you see the light at the end of the tunnel but there
- 17:26was a date that it was going to end Yeah.
- 17:28So rather than this like ambiguous, well, like for a run
- 17:35like, well, I don't know, I'm just going to go till I don't
- 17:37want to go anymore unless you set a I'm only going to go 4
- 17:40miles or I'm going to run for an hour.
- 17:42But having that bookend of the activity can really help to
- 17:47know, OK, like, you know what? I can do this.
- 17:50I can do this for three more Mondays.
- 17:51It literally challenged me in the best way possible and it
- 17:55made me be so for sure of this good.
- 17:58Yay breaking through. OK, what was?
- 18:00Your I'm so proud of you. I'm proud of you.
- 18:04Cuz Emily also took on all of her editing this year and like
- 18:07also admin logistics, which is something I was doing editing
- 18:12last year. And that's when it like I was
- 18:15like, wow, burnout with editing. That's a lot of work.
- 18:18But Emily took it over. We refined some things from last
- 18:21season so it's easier editing. Thank God.
- 18:24I probably will pick up a few episodes of editing over the
- 18:27summer time as Emily's pretty busy, but.
- 18:30Yeah, yeah. So I last year I was a full time
- 18:35house cleaner and river guide and doing this on the side.
- 18:39And at the end of last year I quit full time house cleaning
- 18:43and made this my essentially my full time job.
- 18:48So I've done all of the guest recruitment and coordination and
- 18:53communication. So cold calling guests, giving
- 18:59them the whole spiel of what it is that we do, arranging the
- 19:03location that we're going to meet them at, coordinating all
- 19:07of the transportation logistics for us to get there and how the
- 19:11day is going to run with having two interviews in a day.
- 19:16Making sure that they've signed all of our vital paperwork and
- 19:20such, put together all of our live read BIOS with a with the
- 19:25assistance of AI. And then come home after all of
- 19:30that and get all of the files onto my computer, into our
- 19:34Dropbox, and do the editing process, the publishing, the
- 19:38show notes, I monitor the e-mail inbox, and I take care of
- 19:45Heather. I'm am I Are you my handler?
- 19:49Yeah, I'm your handler. Dude, Emily's done a lot this
- 19:52and I've totally like, well, I've been doing social media.
- 19:55And that's my job. We have had immense growth on
- 19:59our Instagram page in the last, I'd say since mid March.
- 20:05It's been like. Wildfire.
- 20:08Yeah. We just had a wildfire.
- 20:10Nice. I.
- 20:12Thought you were going in for a high 5?
- 20:13Sure. We've had like minimum 50 new
- 20:16followers a day. It's been a lot since mid March.
- 20:21Go check it out. It's pretty fun over there.
- 20:22Yeah. And I'll probably put more time
- 20:24into it now that I have two days essentially in my week that have
- 20:27opened up. Yeah, it's been really a lot of
- 20:30fun. I really do enjoy and.
- 20:35Emily is the tentpole holding this tent up, and I am the
- 20:40flappy rain fly that is flapping in the rain and wind.
- 20:47That's our analogy for our rules in this podcast, this season and
- 20:52this season. Yeah, shift a little bit next
- 20:54season. Yeah.
- 20:54We don't know where we'll be at. We're never gonna be the same
- 20:57thing forever, yeah. But yeah, I really enjoy and in
- 21:04some ways kind of thrive in that administrative, logistical
- 21:10space. I have a lot of professional
- 21:12history in that. And so I'm really good at it.
- 21:16And I do really, I'm good at it and I enjoy it.
- 21:20So there were definitely some days where I was just like, all
- 21:23I want to do is contact guests and coordinate our logistics and
- 21:28yeah, I would. Like awesome, I didn't know
- 21:29that. Get high on it.
- 21:31Cool, you can continue to do that next.
- 21:33Season I love it I love reaching out to people and making them
- 21:38feel at ease about what we're inviting them to do explaining
- 21:43our structure and our story to them and making sure that they
- 21:48feel set up for success for this experience and and coordinating
- 21:55the like OK we're going to have somehow we've most of the time
- 22:00would happen to have two guests on the same day in Ashland or in
- 22:03Medford and a lot of that just happened really organically and
- 22:07magically and I think. That was you, baby.
- 22:11But yes, and it really just like.
- 22:15But it happened. Also, it happened and a lot of
- 22:19the time it didn't take much effort from me to have it work
- 22:23out like that. Like maybe one person would say
- 22:27I'm available this time on this day in this location.
- 22:30And then somebody else would say, I'm available this day,
- 22:34give me a location and there would be some alignment in the
- 22:37schedule and I'd say, OK, meet us in this town and we'd be able
- 22:41to touch I'm. Surprised how all of our guests
- 22:43were able to do Mondays. Like all of most of the people
- 22:46that you even reached out to. Like we record on a Monday,
- 22:49that's usually a work day for people.
- 22:52Cool. Thank you.
- 22:53There was only one person. I mean, there were probably 4,
- 22:59I'm going to guess 4 people, and that might be an exaggeration of
- 23:04people that I reached out to who said they were interested but
- 23:06were not available on a Monday. One of them we did on a Saturday
- 23:12and it worked out really great. But otherwise, you're that fart.
- 23:18I heard your fart. I don't know if the microphone
- 23:20did it, sorry. Yeah, it just like I, I set out
- 23:26with that intention and it worked out really magically.
- 23:29And I think while yes, I was putting very intentional effort
- 23:34into it, for me it was a sign, very consistent signs along the
- 23:41way to hear of that we were doing the right thing.
- 23:43Bro I do have to say like since I have, we have rekindled our
- 23:48friendship from yesteryear. Everything that you say you're
- 23:57manifesting, that you're actively manifesting is
- 24:01happened. Oh, thanks.
- 24:03Dude, hell yeah. So like, I don't know, like
- 24:07everything that you've like put energy into making happen has
- 24:10happened. Thank you.
- 24:11Even stuff outside of the podcast.
- 24:12I, I'm see, I see you, I see the manifesting and I see it coming
- 24:17to fruition and it's really cool and I like being around it.
- 24:20I'm hoping it rips off on me. Thanks.
- 24:22I think it is. I've been, I've seen, I've seen
- 24:24it happening for you too. It is for sure.
- 24:26I'm I'm a very intentional person and I am a very devoted
- 24:32to my intentions and I also give myself a lot of grace and.
- 24:39Yeah, you've helped me with my grace over the last year.
- 24:43You're welcome because it's only been a year, but this is season
- 24:462 recording wrap up. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:48Because we launched our first episode of Go Wildly Podcast
- 24:53April 26th, 24th of 2025 and it today is May 13th, 2026.
- 25:04So Go Wildly Podcast has been in publication for just over a year
- 25:10and we're crushing it. We're doing really well.
- 25:13We have, well, last time I looked we have 20 reviews on
- 25:18Spotify. Five stars.
- 25:20Five stars. Make it 50.
- 25:22Yeah, make it 50. I actually had a thought in the
- 25:24shower this morning. I was like, should we do like a
- 25:27giveaway of some sort? And I was like.
- 25:29We don't have anything to give away right now.
- 25:31That's. The thing I was like, well, what
- 25:32do we do? How does that feel like?
- 25:34Does it feel authentic? I asked Claude.
- 25:36I was like, huh, just some like fun thought of like maybe we do
- 25:39a giveaway to get people get our Instagram followers because we
- 25:44have over 1500 now to come over to Spotify and actually consume
- 25:50our product, our product. Spotify, Apple, YouTube, Amazon,
- 25:53wherever you get your podcasts, you can find.
- 25:55Us and that's our product, yeah. And that's the podcast.
- 25:59That's something that I really want to make sure we stay
- 26:01intentional about is that we aren't a stuff in things.
- 26:07We are podcast, yes, we are an immersive podcast experience.
- 26:14We're not. If we're going to talk about a
- 26:17product, it's because we are using it and loving it.
- 26:20It's not because we just want more consumption and stuff out
- 26:25there. Right.
- 26:26And then I. Got these pants off of Facebook
- 26:28Marketplace. And that's also in the same vein
- 26:31as we have way more Instagram followers.
- 26:35It's like, yeah, we have an Instagram account, but we're
- 26:39not. The Instagram account isn't our
- 26:42business and our product, yeah, it's just snippets of the actual
- 26:46product that we're making, which is the podcast.
- 26:48It should be a pipeline into becoming a listener, watcher,
- 26:53follower of the pod. If that's all you can do is
- 26:55follow an Instagram because you're not really into podcasts.
- 26:57So the little like snippets and stuff like if that's what you
- 27:00like to consume, we will continue to post them.
- 27:02Absolutely. We're just saying that we're
- 27:04bigger than that. Yeah, we're cooler than that,
- 27:07Yeah. We are more than just Instagram
- 27:10influence. We're more than just acid.
- 27:12Today's well. I don't know about you, but
- 27:17yeah, yeah, yeah, we're, we're very intentional with what we're
- 27:23doing here. And I think we've that's really
- 27:28been evident to me this season with how frequently we are
- 27:31discussing what we're doing, why we're doing it, where we're
- 27:35going with it, what we want to get out of it, when we're when
- 27:39we are seeking funding sources, what is that money going to pay
- 27:43for? We still have yet to really dial
- 27:45in our code of ethics for that which we will, we have intended
- 27:50to, you know, make sure we, at least for now, thoroughly review
- 27:54every opportunity that is presented to make sure that it
- 27:57aligns with both of us. And then I also wanted this
- 28:03little pokey. Did you see that?
- 28:06I'm watching you. What was your favorite episode
- 28:11to record this year? Thank you for asking.
- 28:14That's a really good question. And I every episode where
- 28:19somebody says that's a good question, I get a little, I get
- 28:24a little tickle because like obviously like we should be
- 28:27asking good questions. We're hosting a podcast and that
- 28:31is just affirming. Affirming Affirm.
- 28:35We've had several episodes where if you had to.
- 28:40Pick 1. Emily.
- 28:41Emily. I can't pick my favorite child.
- 28:44Yes, yes you can. Can I pick two or you can pick?
- 28:48One and then two. OK.
- 28:52If you had gun to your head. Don't threaten me with violence,
- 28:57Sorry. I was, I don't know, I was going
- 29:02to grab your boob or something. I thought we were going to high
- 29:055 or hold hands. OK well I do.
- 29:09I do have two and for different reasons.
- 29:11That's fine. OK.
- 29:12That's good. That's good.
- 29:12That's good. OK.
- 29:13I like it. Thank you.
- 29:14Shoot, shoot. OK, go.
- 29:16OK, shoot. Rock, paper, scissors.
- 29:21Shoot. I went yes.
- 29:23OK. Probably my favorite episode to
- 29:25record was with Julie Norman. This episode has not been put
- 29:29out yet, and it was my favorite to record because she has known
- 29:35me my entire life. She was literally at my parents'
- 29:40house when my mom got up and said I'm going to the hospital
- 29:44to birth this baby. That's probably not what she
- 29:47said or how she said it, but she has literally been in my life
- 29:51since day one, so that was special.
- 29:54Her. Yeah.
- 29:55Her and my mom and my dad have been friends for 50 years and
- 30:01she is part of this greater river community river family
- 30:06that I have. And she was so intentional about
- 30:12her interview experience, she spent weeks like essentially
- 30:17researching her own life so that she would know what she wanted
- 30:23to share and how she wanted to share it and what her timeline
- 30:25was and what the highlights were.
- 30:28And she just has the most positive, uplifting and grounded
- 30:38perspective on herself and life that is so admirable and has
- 30:44been influential to me in so many over and subvert ways
- 30:49throughout my life. And because part of the
- 30:53intention of this podcast is to host a container for the elders
- 31:01to share their stories. Because much of the inspiration
- 31:04of this was that I was recording stories from my dad as he was
- 31:08dying, stories of his life in the outdoors.
- 31:10And I saw the importance and the value in capturing these stories
- 31:15and having a record of real human stories outside that are
- 31:22otherwise going to be lost when their lives move on.
- 31:25And because of this river community that I've grown up in
- 31:29that has been very informed by storytelling, there's like
- 31:36documentarian that is part of this community that has filmed a
- 31:40series, a trilogy of document documentaries about these
- 31:45people. Storytelling and history
- 31:48capturing has been a through line in my life.
- 31:52And so to get Julie on to kind of pull all of those pieces
- 31:58together was really valuable for me.
- 32:00And that it also met our criteria of highlighting voices
- 32:04of Southern Oregon. And she's lived in Southern
- 32:05Oregon for like 30 years, you know?
- 32:07What about Julie? Everything.
- 32:10She's an old school liberal. When we need more of that
- 32:13energy, Yeah. Like but like looks.
- 32:15Like that core? She's like, not even like a
- 32:18like. You don't even need to classify
- 32:20her as that. Like she is an earth lover, she
- 32:23is a human lover, she is a community lover, and she fights
- 32:28for and engages in the issues that affect the places that she
- 32:34loves. But that's my.
- 32:35That's, that's what I resonate most with.
- 32:39That's my, that's my liberal side.
- 32:42Yeah, that. She was like, I'm spending all
- 32:45my time on rivers and I see that the forest around this river
- 32:49that I'm recreating in is being overlogged.
- 32:52I'm gonna go participate in a campaign to slow or stop the
- 32:58logging of this environment that I enjoy that informs my life.
- 33:04And dude, I love it. There's Even so much more to.
- 33:07I bet the. Beauty and wonder of her story
- 33:09than what she shared in our hour and a half episode.
- 33:12I could see it. We have to have her back on.
- 33:14Yeah, and I think more. That's part of.
- 33:17I also just want to say too, like I'm also, I have my liberal
- 33:21side and I have my conservative side.
- 33:22Yeah, we're a little bit. We're a little bit of everything
- 33:24and but. That's what that's the like, I
- 33:29just resonate so much with that because that's where my my earth
- 33:33loving side comes from. That's where all of my things
- 33:35stem from, from that. Same.
- 33:38So, and we've had a, we have a lot of guests who are in their
- 33:4330s, twenties, 30s, because that's 40s, because that's us
- 33:48and they have great stories and they have great lives.
- 33:51And also the people who are in their 60s, seventies, 80s have
- 33:55had so much more life and more stories.
- 33:58My dad will be coming on. Yeah, there might even be a
- 34:00Wyman's Wyman series. His name's Wyman, by the way.
- 34:07And then my second favorite episode was with Ryan Garn.
- 34:11We've known each other for many years, several years, but we've
- 34:15never really had the chance to really connect in person.
- 34:19And what I mean, it was a wonderful episode.
- 34:24It was a unique episode. It was a safe container for her
- 34:28to share her story and it was an awesome experience.
- 34:33Like I think we just had so much fun.
- 34:36But what made it the best, one of the best for me was her
- 34:39feedback afterwards about how special and safe and fun and
- 34:46awesome the experience was for her.
- 34:48Getting that feedback of that. She's done public interviews.
- 34:53She's been on, you know, shows and she's been recorded before,
- 34:59but we gave her the best experience that she'd had and.
- 35:03Damn straight. Yeah.
- 35:05And shout out, Ryan, congratulations on your
- 35:07engagement. Yeah.
- 35:09And happy late birthday. Yeah, happy late birthday too.
- 35:12So many. Great things happening for Ryan.
- 35:13Dude I'm always so gung ho with birthdays at the beginning of
- 35:16the year for like Facebook looking at everybody's birthday
- 35:19and then I forget one day and then it's all downhill from
- 35:21there. Yeah, you can't.
- 35:22You can't keep up on. It I was like fuck, I miss one
- 35:24day, might as well miss mall. Yep.
- 35:27That's so that's that's really special for me.
- 35:30When we get feedback from guests, that's their experience
- 35:34was. Top notch, top notch.
- 35:36That's what's up. So I'd say those those have
- 35:39presented to the top for me for. Sure, for sure.
- 35:42And Julie also sent us gifts afterwards she sent us.
- 35:46Who else did gifts? Was it just?
- 35:48Julie. Julie gave us gifts.
- 35:52Arrowhead Adventures gave us, oh, I'm not wearing it.
- 35:55Gave us hats. Shout out Ashley and Kel.
- 35:58Sierra at the Oregon Caves gave us bandanas.
- 36:02Where's my bandana? I don't know.
- 36:05I put mine in the wash today. I don't know where My.
- 36:08Yeah, we've received some gifts. We're going to.
- 36:12Have gifts next year for our guests.
- 36:13Yeah. Can I talk about that for a
- 36:15moment after? My yeah favorite.
- 36:17Episodes. You tell us your favorite
- 36:19episodes. I have to say my favorite
- 36:21episode was Sophie. Yeah.
- 36:24She's just such a vibe. I just love silly, fun people.
- 36:30She's really smart too, so I love that all combined.
- 36:32That's like literally when I'm trying to be, even though she
- 36:35just turned 29 and I'm 30, going to be 37, I still, I want to be
- 36:40Sophie when I grow up. Yeah.
- 36:42Age is just a number, and that was also one of my takeaways
- 36:46with Julie was like, she's 70 something, but she is, it feels
- 36:52like she's still just as like lively and spry and vibey as
- 36:58when she was so much younger. So we are going to wrap this up
- 37:02because we're almost out of time, but.
- 37:06What else? What were you?
- 37:07Oh, I want to say that. Oh, for next.
- 37:09Yes. So one of the other really
- 37:12amazing things that has come out of this season is that my mom.
- 37:18Sweet surprised us at our million 1,000,000 cups episode,
- 37:23which is a whole nother bag of worms for Emily.
- 37:25I'm I'm neutral now but. We.
- 37:27Did do our our first public speaking event this season.
- 37:31And I think that in and of itself was really beneficial for
- 37:34at least me. I mean, I know it's beneficial
- 37:36for you and us as a whole, but like, for me, getting back on
- 37:39the stage in front of people, I was a little nervous and I'm
- 37:42going to continue to be, but exposure therapy is the best
- 37:45therapy. Yeah, that opened us up to.
- 37:48Some other. Things other opportunities that
- 37:49we can see ourselves doing of doing public speaking
- 37:52presentations and at that presentation, which we don't
- 37:57have an episode on, it was filmed and live streamed on
- 38:02YouTube. But you can't actually hear us
- 38:04talk because our theme music though, it wasn't playing in the
- 38:07room, it was playing on the YouTube live stream.
- 38:10So you can't actually hear us at all, but you can watch it with
- 38:14closed captioning and kind of know what we're saying.
- 38:18But at that presentation my mom approached us at the end and
- 38:22said told us that she is hand sewing with a sewing machine but
- 38:27she is sewing tote bags for us and having them all screen
- 38:32printed at Talent Maker City who I have a deep connection to with
- 38:37the Go Wildly logo and she's going to make us like 50 some
- 38:40odd bags. Oh my God, that many.
- 38:42Yeah, we went fabric shopping together and Chelsea donated a
- 38:46bunch of fabric to her to use and she's going to make a shit
- 38:51load of tote bags that we can give as giveaways or give to our
- 38:56guests or do whatever we want with.
- 38:58That's really. Cool.
- 38:59Maybe we'll do a giveaway with that.
- 39:01Yeah, just. So sweet and special and the the
- 39:06handmade component and the family component that my mom
- 39:11decided to do that out of her own volition.
- 39:13I never said anything about like, would you do this for us?
- 39:16She just decided to do it. And I think she's just so
- 39:21thoughtful and kind and generous.
- 39:23And I also, yeah, that was amazing.
- 39:25I also want your mom shout out Teal.
- 39:30Do we need to have teal on? I've asked.
- 39:32She's not interested. At this moment, yeah.
- 39:35Yeah. Totally.
- 39:35And that makes sense. I'm gonna keep working on.
- 39:37Her, well, I've had to work on my dad.
- 39:38I mean, obviously we haven't recorded an episode yet with
- 39:41him. Well, we've only been doing this
- 39:42for a year. That's true.
- 39:43So but I have I do want to make a little statement like as we're
- 39:47growing, we are getting more people kind of like I feel like
- 39:51hitting us up trying to get their shoe in the door of like
- 39:54recording. And I wanted to just say, like,
- 39:56we see you. We had a really tight recording
- 39:59season, so we just did what we could do.
- 40:02I've been stopped numerous times being like, yeah, we need to do
- 40:05this. That's right.
- 40:07Yeah. And it's like, we're gonna get
- 40:08to you. We'll get to you.
- 40:09We're not stopping this. It'll.
- 40:10Be better. It'll be even like there'll be
- 40:12more, it'll be more serious because we keep growing.
- 40:15So there'll be more of an audience when you come on or
- 40:18whatever the case may be. Not that that's important
- 40:20because that's not what we're trying to do here in a, in a, in
- 40:23a sense, yeah. Like we're trying to make this a
- 40:25monetary our dream career, but like also like.
- 40:30With the, with the intention of we're telling amazing outdoor
- 40:34stories with good audio and video quality.
- 40:37Boom. Yeah.
- 40:38And that to that point, we had multiple guests this season who
- 40:42I contacted for last season and it didn't work out.
- 40:46And then when we got them on the season, it was like the most
- 40:48perfect conditions and circumstances and like they were
- 40:52further along in their careers. And so timing is magical and
- 40:58meant to be and absolutely if you are interested in joining us
- 41:04here on Go Wildly and being a guest and going on a little
- 41:07outdoor adventure. With US submission, Yep, you.
- 41:09Can put a make a submission on our website or you can e-mail us
- 41:13directly at gowildlyoregon@gmail.com and
- 41:18that will come to me and I will put you on our list.
- 41:20We have a very long list that is growing of people who have
- 41:26reached out to us interested in being guests and people that we
- 41:29have identified as potential guests.
- 41:31And we've recognized that everybody has a story and most
- 41:38of those stories happen outside. So if you've got that, let us
- 41:43know. We'd love to have you at some
- 41:45point in time. We record in person.
- 41:49Yes, no virtual. No virtual and.
- 41:53And only outside. And only outside.
- 41:55And we don't do over Zoom. So if you listen to this from
- 41:58far away, maybe one day we'll come to you.
- 42:01Yeah. Did that rhyme a little?
- 42:02Bit a little bit cool and that's those are our aspirations.
- 42:06I feel like it's fair to put put this in before we wrap up of
- 42:10that. We do have vision and
- 42:13aspirations of being able to travel as go wildly podcast and
- 42:17be in other regions interviewing outdoor enthusiasts.
- 42:24That would be like a great funding pinnacle for us to be
- 42:28able to take time to travel and go other places.
- 42:30Yeah, and let's talk about maybe what's on the agenda for like
- 42:34pod specifically for summer, keeping it just rolling and
- 42:37going. Yep, episodes every Wednesday.
- 42:40I'm gonna keep refining and like Instagram and stuff.
- 42:45I'm actually currently building a portfolio to send to our
- 42:49favoritist brands that we would potentially like to work with
- 42:54and then or just to have as like a portfolio and potentially
- 43:00getting some sort of a Patreon started rolling, maybe some
- 43:04merch. That's kind of something I'm
- 43:05going to work on intermittently between like now and next
- 43:08season. Like so, you know, next year,
- 43:10next season, so that when we launch next season, we're just a
- 43:13little bit more, we're just a little bit grow.
- 43:16Like so you can buy for the price of a cup of coffee a
- 43:19month. You can become part of our
- 43:21Patreon and like get a sticker, whatever we decide.
- 43:24Get some more behind the scenes footage.
- 43:28Yeah. When we're when we're making
- 43:30money from this, we'll be able to spend more time creating our
- 43:36beautiful product here. Yeah, it's gonna be lovely.
- 43:39Yeah. So there's a lot we still have
- 43:41in the works. It's not just, you know, a dead
- 43:44summer. Yeah, no, episodes are still
- 43:47coming out every. Week.
- 43:49Through the end of October, we just won't be actively recording
- 43:53yes. That's the only thing that's
- 43:54stopping. Yeah, we will continue to
- 43:56snowball. We do.
- 43:57Have technically we do have four more recordings on the calendar.
- 44:02You have two solo ones coming up, two, Yep, 2 next week.
- 44:07You have one next week and then you have 1-2 weeks after that.
- 44:11Oh, I thought you were doing that one with me.
- 44:12Nope. I am on the.
- 44:13River Was that the June 22nd? That's a different one.
- 44:18I will be at that one and then we'll have another one in July.
- 44:22Emily just tells me what to do. Yes, I'm the tent pole.
- 44:27I'm pitching the tent. So Yippy skippy what?
- 44:33Who's that one with? Which one?
- 44:35The other solo 1? Not the leash guy, but.
- 44:40A gal who saw us at 1,000,000 cups.
- 44:43The farmer. Nope, she's June 22nd farmer.
- 44:47The farmer is in June. Oh, OK.
- 44:50And then the July 1 is that is Chris from Worldwide Rafting.
- 44:56He's going to come through from Colorado.
- 44:59That's our 22nd. That's in July, July 23rd.
- 45:03Really. Yeah, that's sick because we
- 45:05potentially have a partnership going going to happen with him.
- 45:08That'll be good that he's coming through.
- 45:09Yeah. Awesome, awesome.
- 45:11Yeah, No, who's the other one to a gal from 1,000,000 cups?
- 45:14Yeah. Whom saw us there?
- 45:15OK. Yeah.
- 45:16Sick. I'll tell you more.
