- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark Review podcast. I'm Megan,
- 0:14Speaker 1: and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater.
- 0:17Speaker 1: On today's episode, we're discussing Pumpkin Regatta Romance, which originally
- 0:21Speaker 1: aired on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, September 26th, and
- 0:24Speaker 1: is now streaming on Hallmark Plus. It feels like we're
- 0:29Speaker 1: in that limbo, like two movies left to go. It's
- 0:33Speaker 1: almost countdown to Christmas. I think there's like two strong camps.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Of people who are like, get this Halloween nonsense out
- 0:41Speaker 1: of the way and move on. And some people are like, no, no.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I don't start Christmas content until Halloween is over.
- 0:48Speaker 2: You know where I land.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I mean, only because of this job do you start
- 0:52Speaker 1: Christmas content early.
- 0:53Speaker 2: That is correct.
- 0:55Speaker 1: And I do not like Halloween. I am looking forward
- 0:57Speaker 1: to our next two Hallmark movies, however.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I'm excited for them as well.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Let me tell you how excited I am about the
- 1:06Speaker 1: fact that I have a teenager now. My youngest is 16,
- 1:10Speaker 1: and that means that I don't really have to participate
- 1:12Speaker 1: in anything Halloween.
- 1:14Speaker 2: You're just going to let her go out? Yeah. Halloween weekend? Yeah.
- 1:20Speaker 1: She's dressing up, but like, I don't, I'm not in
- 1:22Speaker 1: charge anymore.
- 1:23Speaker 2: You don't have to like.
- 1:24Speaker 1: We used to do like a whole neighborhood situation. I
- 1:28Speaker 1: don't know if that's happening this year. I'm certainly not
- 1:31Speaker 1: planning it. And all I need to do is buy candy,
- 1:34Speaker 1: maybe order pizza for her friends.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Here's, here's the life of an empty nester. Me.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Me.
- 1:41Speaker 2: This year– I don't even want to hang out candy
- 1:43Speaker 2: this year.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I'm like– Do you get a lot of trick-or-treaters in
- 1:46Speaker 1: your neighborhood?
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 2: And last year– and the last year and the year before,
- 1:49Speaker 2: we sat outside and– because, you know, we have dogs
- 1:52Speaker 2: and you've got to answer the door. Yes, I do.
- 1:53Speaker 2: And the dogs are a pain.
- 1:54Speaker 1: We do the same thing.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Last year, we sat outside and then we ended up
- 1:58Speaker 2: going inside because, like, the Dodger game was on.
- 2:01Speaker 1: It was like– Oh, yeah. World Series. The World Series. Yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I don't know if that was the last game, the
- 2:06Speaker 2: final game, or if it was, like, right at the end.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Anyway, we ended up watching that. Yeah. This year it's
- 2:11Speaker 2: like a Saturday night and part of me feels like
- 2:16Speaker 2: I don't, I don't, I think maybe I'm going to
- 2:20Speaker 2: plan to go do something instead.
- 2:23Speaker 1: What?
- 2:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Yeah. What are you going to do?
- 2:24Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe we'll go out to dinner or
- 2:26Speaker 2: to a movie or something like that.
- 2:28Speaker 1: All right.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I don't know. I just, I don't want to hand
- 2:30Speaker 2: out candy. Blasphemy. I know. And I love Halloween. So
- 2:35Speaker 2: it doesn't mean I'm not going to buy candy.
- 2:42Speaker 1: What? Not to hand out.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Oh, just to enjoy in the house?
- 2:47Speaker 1: Yeah. For our seasonal candy displays.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I haven't even been in your kitchen yet. Is it out?
- 2:52Speaker 1: All that's out right now is candy corn and mellow
- 2:55Speaker 1: cream pumpkins, which I hate. Both versions of those. I
- 2:57Speaker 1: love those. But I did buy some Reese's pumpkins and
- 3:01Speaker 1: they haven't been put out yet, but I did bust
- 3:03Speaker 1: into them last night.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Did you?
- 3:04Speaker 1: I needed a sweet treat.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I hate that word, sweet treat. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:12Speaker 2: One more thing before we move on. Hey, if you
- 3:14Speaker 2: just want to hear Megan and I talk like this
- 3:17Speaker 2: for an hour, come join us on Patreon. Patreon.com slash
- 3:21Speaker 2: Megan and Wendy. That's right. Do it.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Hey, let's hear a synopsis of Pumpkin Regatta Romance.
- 3:28Speaker 2: A headstrong marina owner teams up with the local pumpkin
- 3:32Speaker 2: farmer to resurrect their lakeside town's beloved Pumpkin Regatta after
- 3:38Speaker 2: a family feud cancels it, igniting old wounds and new
- 3:42Speaker 2: sparks in the process.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, everything about that synopsis does no
- 3:48Speaker 1: justice to this movie. I didn't write it. I know
- 3:51Speaker 1: you didn't. I'm saying the premise of this movie does
- 3:55Speaker 1: not light me up, but the movie itself might.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I mean, we laughed about this movie in our preview.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Once I saw the pictures, I was all in. Once
- 4:06Speaker 1: I realized what a pumpkin regatta is. Hey, Liz Phair
- 4:09Speaker 1: directed Pumpkin Regatta Romance. This is just her second Hallmark movie.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Her previous is the 2026 movie Because of Cupid.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Which- The only movie we haven't reviewed this year.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Wendy did not like, but I maintain that's because she
- 4:23Speaker 1: watched it in a cold medicine induced haze.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Thanks to Chris Palaha's Nevada trip that I went on.
- 4:30Speaker 1: That's right.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I came home so sick, so sick from his movie premiere.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Not thanks to Chris Palaha himself, to be clear.
- 4:41Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Just Reno did you in.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Reno did me in. Kate Pragnell wrote the screenplay for
- 4:47Speaker 2: this movie. This marks her 14th movie and has previously
- 4:50Speaker 2: penned The Christmas Charade, Take Me Back for Christmas, and
- 4:54Speaker 2: Christmas in Toyland.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Daytime Emmy winner Michelle Morgan stars as Nadine. Michelle appeared
- 4:59Speaker 1: in all four of the Hearts Are on the Table
- 5:02Speaker 1: movies from 2025.
- 5:08Speaker 2: More Michelle Morgan on Hallmark.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Corey Sevier stars as Ethan. We last saw Corey on
- 5:19Speaker 2: Hallmark in The Christmas Charade from 2024. He also recently
- 5:23Speaker 2: appeared in a few episodes of the series Hudson and Rex.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Eugene Clark appears as Nadine's dad, George. Eugene has a
- 5:32Speaker 1: deep resume of work, including everything from Star Trek, Sue Thomas, FBI,
- 5:37Speaker 1: and voice work in Blue's Clues. Who does he play
- 5:42Speaker 1: in Blue's Clues?
- 5:43Speaker 2: It was Blue's Clues and something. It was like that.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And Friends? Yeah, something like that.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Is he like Mr.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Pepper? I don't know. Okay.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Okay.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Rob Stewart appears as Ethan's dad, Andrew. You might recognize
- 5:56Speaker 2: him like I did.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Sam!
- 5:58Speaker 2: Sam Bishop from The Way Home. He also appeared in
- 6:00Speaker 2: The Christmas Charade, which I was unaware of.
- 6:05Speaker 1: So was I. If you want to hear more about
- 6:07Speaker 1: the actors in this movie, including a nice cameo from
- 6:10Speaker 1: one Jake Epstein, visit GirlsConHallmark.com. Hey, Wendy, what was your
- 6:14Speaker 1: first impression of Pumpkin Regatta Romance? Cake pops are overrated.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Enjoy a cake pop.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I love a cake pop. No, they're so gummy.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Love a cake pop.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Get out of here.
- 6:28Speaker 1: My first impression is me think some people are going
- 6:30Speaker 1: to be very pleased at that long pause on the
- 6:33Speaker 1: shirtless scene in the movie.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Including me. Me.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I am pleased.
- 6:39Speaker 2: It's me.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Hey, Wendy, what did you like about Pumpkin Regatta Romance?
- 6:44Speaker 2: Well, I can't believe I like this movie, first of all.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I was just ready to clown on it 100%. It's
- 6:51Speaker 2: so fun. I really enjoyed it. While there were lots
- 6:55Speaker 2: and lots and lots of faux flowers and fall leaves.
- 7:01Speaker 1: So many.
- 7:02Speaker 2: So, so many. I did really enjoy it. And the
- 7:05Speaker 2: reason I enjoyed it so much is because I really
- 7:08Speaker 2: loved Michelle Morgan.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I thought she was exceptional.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I cared... She made me care about Nadine, like, instantly. Like,
- 7:16Speaker 2: I cared about her business. I cared about her dad.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I cared about her friend group. And I cared about
- 7:23Speaker 2: this pumpkin regatta.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Yes! I couldn't believe it, guys. I couldn't believe it.
- 7:31Speaker 1: More on Michelle Morgan. She and Corey Seve have incredible
- 7:35Speaker 1: chemistry in this movie.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Oh, Wendy doesn't think so. Well... Let's fight. I thought
- 7:40Speaker 1: they had great chemistry. I was like, just kiss her already.
- 7:44Speaker 2: What do you mean you.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Have to stay professional? It's a pumpkin regatta, for goodness sakes.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I enjoyed them very much. Corey Sevier and his 90s
- 7:53Speaker 1: child star floppy hair that he kept pushing out of
- 7:56Speaker 1: his face. The whole, I just, great, fun casting. Enjoyed them.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And his facial hair, too.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yes. Although my husband was like, could he not have, like, cleaned.
- 8:06Speaker 2: It up no husband no no no he he just
- 8:09Speaker 2: doesn't like like.
- 8:10Speaker 1: The next i don't care you don't like her you
- 8:12Speaker 1: like the next gruff it's.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Too boy band if it when it's too clean it's
- 8:16Speaker 2: too aj from backstreet boys talk about 90s 90s you
- 8:22Speaker 2: know throwback i man cory sevier i forget that he's
- 8:28Speaker 2: easy on the eyes He doesn't do a ton of
- 8:32Speaker 2: Hallmark movies. He has all these other projects that don't
- 8:35Speaker 2: air on Hallmark.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I wasn't familiar with your game, Corey Sevier.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Especially when you took your shirt off. I was like, hello.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Is this AI slop?
- 8:42Speaker 2: No, it's not. It was doing it for me. No notes.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I just appreciate that Nadine, like, just double takes and is...
- 8:52Speaker 1: Momentarily speechless.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Such a real moment. It was such a real movement.
- 8:57Speaker 2: You know, his wife is the screenwriter. Yes, I remember
- 9:02Speaker 2: that moment that we had. So I wonder if she's, like,
- 9:03Speaker 2: on set, too. Like, you know, hanging out.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Quite possibly.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Not that there's, like, anything to be, like.
- 9:11Speaker 1: She's like, his eyes are up there.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Overlooking, yeah. You know, I'm like, yeah. I'd be like, yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 2: my husband looks good. It's all right. Also, what I
- 9:20Speaker 2: really liked... I loved Nadine and her dad. I'm going
- 9:25Speaker 2: to talk about the dads and their beef in a minute.
- 9:29Speaker 2: But I loved Nadine's dad with her relationship. And this
- 9:33Speaker 2: kind of goes back to a recent review that we
- 9:37Speaker 2: did about like family relationships and culturally diverse families and
- 9:43Speaker 2: how they're written. I thought these two were amazing. Not
- 9:47Speaker 2: transactional at all. Even the actor who played Dad George,
- 9:52Speaker 2: like at the moment, he's like singing some lines and.
- 9:54Speaker 1: He's very like, very dad like doesn't have to change
- 9:59Speaker 1: in here yeah very very dad like I really enjoyed
- 10:04Speaker 1: them it made me believe that this was an actual
- 10:07Speaker 1: adult daughter and her dad and I really loved them
- 10:15Speaker 1: and I love that like Nadine could be like irritated
- 10:18Speaker 1: with her dad And it didn't turn into like a
- 10:21Speaker 1: feud between them. There wasn't like father-daughter conflict. Yes, he
- 10:25Speaker 1: gets pissed off a little bit at the end. But
- 10:27Speaker 1: like he comes around a lot because she's got valid points.
- 10:31Speaker 1: So I enjoyed it. I also really enjoyed Nadine's group
- 10:36Speaker 1: of girlfriends.
- 10:39Speaker 2: One of them I have a wish I'm going to
- 10:42Speaker 2: talk about. But I love that the reason they're bringing
- 10:45Speaker 2: the regatta back is because they're trying to help her
- 10:48Speaker 2: friend's son. With college financing.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 10:54Speaker 2: And then he ends up winning the regatta, which doesn't
- 10:56Speaker 2: really mean anything, but it just was, like, cute. I
- 11:00Speaker 2: felt myself get choked up when he crossed the finish line.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I don't know why. And his big foam pumpkin. I'm
- 11:05Speaker 2: going to talk about it. I'm going to talk about it.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But I like that this wasn't a movie about we
- 11:12Speaker 2: need to save the regatta because it's tradition. It was like, no,
- 11:15Speaker 2: we're going to bring it back because there's a good
- 11:17Speaker 2: cause attached to it.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yes.
- 11:20Speaker 2: And this is why we should be doing it. And like,
- 11:23Speaker 2: if you're Nadine's dad, how can you say no to that? Right.
- 11:27Speaker 2: So I just love that.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Nadine's dad, I like their reconciliation storyline because he
- 11:34Speaker 1: has that moment where he gets upset. And ultimately, you
- 11:39Speaker 1: can understand, like, he's upset that she was lying to
- 11:41Speaker 1: him and hiding this from him and trying to pull
- 11:44Speaker 1: a fast one on him and, like, make him make
- 11:46Speaker 1: an emotional decision. Like, I couldn't possibly say no when
- 11:49Speaker 1: all of these people are here. And then given a
- 11:52Speaker 1: few moments, he comes to the right conclusion. It's nice.
- 11:56Speaker 1: It's real, I thought. Yeah. Let's talk about the regatta.
- 12:00Speaker 1: The regatta itself is one of my favorite parts. As
- 12:03Speaker 1: much as I understand that they're in those foam pumpkins.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And of course, we're going to talk about it. Like
- 12:08Speaker 1: they're in the water. There's a whole fleet of them
- 12:09Speaker 1: out there. They're paddling. It looks hard. That was really happening.
- 12:15Speaker 2: There was a part of me that was like. Is
- 12:18Speaker 2: this a Fred Flintstone situation? Like, are there legs coming
- 12:21Speaker 2: through the bottom of those pumpkins and they're in the
- 12:23Speaker 2: water and they're trying to move these things?
- 12:25Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 12:26Speaker 2: What is happening?
- 12:27Speaker 1: Because when Sam, when Sam's paddling like it's very clearly
- 12:32Speaker 1: like the pumpkins twisting from side to side as he
- 12:34Speaker 1: paddles oh my god i'd be seasick i i i
- 12:38Speaker 1: am glad that we saw them actually get in the
- 12:41Speaker 1: pumpkins and paddle them in the regatta and do it
- 12:43Speaker 1: yeah it wasn't just like shot from the waist up
- 12:46Speaker 1: they were clearly in the water yeah i hear you
- 12:49Speaker 1: there is like a a real pumpkin regatta that happens
- 12:53Speaker 1: i think it's an organ oh yes someone emailed us
- 12:55Speaker 1: about it Kimberly emailed us and she said, this morning
- 12:58Speaker 1: I woke up thinking about the Toulaton Oregon Pumpkin Regatta
- 13:01Speaker 1: and wondering if I could talk my husband into going
- 13:03Speaker 1: this year. He's a crowd averse and the regatta definitely
- 13:06Speaker 1: draws a crowd. It takes place in a man-made lake
- 13:09Speaker 1: in the Toulaton Commons. We lived there for 13 years
- 13:13Speaker 1: and trust me, you're not the first, nor will you
- 13:15Speaker 1: be the last to mispronounce it. I would suggest Toulaton
- 13:19Speaker 1: or Toulaton is the best I can suggest it. With
- 13:23Speaker 1: helping with the pronunciation. Oh, that's the town.
- 13:26Speaker 2: It wasn't me. It was probably me.
- 13:28Speaker 1: No, it was me because we looked it up.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Oh, okay. I was like, we mispronounce regatta?
- 13:36Speaker 1: Anyway, you know what?
- 13:38Speaker 2: I got to give it to them. Like, nobody's embarrassed here. Like,
- 13:41Speaker 2: they're all in on their pumpkin boats. Dude, I'd get
- 13:44Speaker 2: in a pumpkin boat. God, I want to see this
- 13:46Speaker 2: in real life.
- 13:47Speaker 1: You want to go to Oregon? Yeah.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I can't, when is it? Is it this year or
- 13:51Speaker 2: is it in the spring?
- 13:52Speaker 1: Is it in the fall?
- 13:53Speaker 2: It's gotta be in the fall, right?
- 13:54Speaker 1: It's a pumpkin regatta. A pumpkin regatta in April. West
- 13:58Speaker 1: Coast giant pumpkin regatta.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the problem is when they filmed this movie,
- 14:03Speaker 2: there was no pumpkins available.
- 14:06Speaker 1: It takes place Sunday, October 18th, 2026. Unfortunately, Saturday, October
- 14:15Speaker 1: 17th is homecoming. Next year, maybe. But you're in town.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Great. I'm not going by myself.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Well, maybe we could leave. What time is it?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Maybe next year they'll be like hosted by Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 14:27Speaker 1: 10 to 4. It's from 10 to 4. Maybe we
- 14:32Speaker 1: can make it.
- 14:32Speaker 2: No, you, no, no.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Can we fly out on Saturday night? All I got
- 14:35Speaker 1: to do is take a ho-co pic and then. No.
- 14:38Speaker 1: It's on Sunday? Yeah. Oh. Wendy's that meme. You know
- 14:42Speaker 1: what I'm talking about? Where she's like, I do know
- 14:45Speaker 1: what I'm talking about. So not, not really translating on
- 14:48Speaker 1: a auditory medium, but.
- 14:50Speaker 2: It's that white lady that has the question mark on
- 14:52Speaker 2: her face and then she turns her, cocks her head
- 14:54Speaker 2: with her eyes open like, hey babe, that's me. Maybe.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Can we do that? I don't hate it. Every day
- 15:03Speaker 1: I look at the weather in Cannon Beach, Oregon and
- 15:05Speaker 1: lament that that's not where I live.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Well, how far, where in Oregon is this?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Look up that city. To Wallaton. Yeah.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Where in Oregon is it? I don't think it's by
- 15:14Speaker 2: Cannon Beach because she said it's in a man-made lake.
- 15:17Speaker 1: It's not. Let me, I'm just going to map it
- 15:19Speaker 1: from the airport. I am also crowd adverse. So how
- 15:23Speaker 1: crowded is it going to be? It is a 34
- 15:26Speaker 1: minute drive from the Portland airport. Oh. That could be
- 15:30Speaker 1: a quickie little, that could be an Uber ride.
- 15:32Speaker 2: We don't even have to rent a car, but we
- 15:34Speaker 2: should probably rent a car because then the content is
- 15:37Speaker 2: just sitting there waiting for us to grab.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Stay tuned, guys. Stay tuned. What else did you like?
- 15:42Speaker 1: That's it. Well, let me just say I liked the
- 15:45Speaker 1: supporting actor features. Like when Sam, Rob Stewart, on stage.
- 15:50Speaker 1: I'm like, Sam. And then Jake Epstein. Loved it. That
- 15:54Speaker 1: just makes me happy. I can't remember.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Were she and Jake a couple in Hearts Around the Table?
- 15:59Speaker 2: Do you remember? Or were they brother and sister? Because
- 16:02Speaker 2: that's like a real adoption heavy movie.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I don't think they were a couple.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I can't recall.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I don't think they were a couple. No, I think
- 16:08Speaker 1: she and Jake are siblings.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Let's take a quick break and come back to talk wishes. Hey, Wendy,
- 16:22Speaker 1: what'd you wish for from Pumpkin Regatta Romance?
- 16:26Speaker 2: Those pumpkins, guys. When they're like out at the pumpkin
- 16:30Speaker 2: farm and they're standing forever in front of these two
- 16:34Speaker 2: huge pumpkins, I'm like, please stop showing the pumpkins.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And the stem is so smooth.
- 16:39Speaker 2: The stem.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Never. Never. It's no.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I was like, just give a whiff of a pumpkin.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Give like the corner of the, don't show the stem.
- 16:49Speaker 2: The stem is what's making it look so fake. You're right.
- 16:52Speaker 2: It was so bad because you all know, like the
- 16:56Speaker 2: stem of a pumpkin is so woody. It's not going
- 17:00Speaker 2: to be like a clean cut like that. It's not
- 17:03Speaker 2: like a tree. I can't imagine that. Or maybe it is.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Do you think they cut it with a saw?
- 17:09Speaker 1: Even if it is like a tree, it was too smooth.
- 17:11Speaker 1: It was Botox forehead smooth.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. And painted like the perfect color brown,
- 17:18Speaker 2: both identical. It was terrible. And then when they show
- 17:22Speaker 2: the wide shot of them on the water and then
- 17:24Speaker 2: there was like a variety, I was like props to
- 17:27Speaker 2: being all a little bit different. Those big pumpkins are in, but.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Yeah, there was the faux foliage and the faux flora
- 17:37Speaker 1: in this movie. It was a lot like the, the leaves,
- 17:40Speaker 1: the decorative pumpkins, the gourds that they get in for
- 17:43Speaker 1: the water.
- 17:44Speaker 2: I mean, it's, it's, They had this like hedge behind
- 17:47Speaker 2: them and then all these like fake perfectly like placed
- 17:52Speaker 2: colorful leaves. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you remember the
- 17:55Speaker 2: scene I'm talking about? I do, I do. I was
- 17:56Speaker 2: just like, what are we doing here?
- 17:57Speaker 1: You know, I got to say it didn't bother me though.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Like it was just noticeable, but I wasn't, what are
- 18:01Speaker 1: you going to do other than film it at a
- 18:03Speaker 1: better time?
- 18:04Speaker 2: I know, I know, I know, I know. Okay, I
- 18:06Speaker 2: want to talk about Nadine and Ethan.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Okay.
- 18:09Speaker 2: And you thought they had great chemistry. I did. I
- 18:13Speaker 2: thought they had great friendship chemistry. I mean, like they
- 18:18Speaker 2: cared for each other. And they have this history. But
- 18:21Speaker 2: I don't, it wasn't like sex popping off the TV
- 18:25Speaker 2: or anything like that. I don't think it's always sex, no.
- 18:27Speaker 2: I know, but you know what I like from my movies.
- 18:30Speaker 2: So I just need a little bit of romantic heat.
- 18:35Speaker 1: You were fresh off your Steve basic.
- 18:39Speaker 2: You're right. Yeah, exactly.
- 18:40Speaker 1: What's the word I'm looking for?
- 18:42Speaker 2: Hi. Sure, that works. And then, and this could also
- 18:49Speaker 2: be kind of a did you see that, but it's not.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Stop wiping this woman's face. It was not once or twice.
- 18:56Speaker 1: While they're baking.
- 18:57Speaker 2: But three times. I, if I, I would be like,
- 19:01Speaker 2: oh my God, I'd be so self-conscious. Like, am I
- 19:03Speaker 2: a mess that you have to keep wiping my face?
- 19:05Speaker 2: Like there was something in her hair and then something
- 19:08Speaker 2: on her face that I'd be, nope, nope, nope. I get,
- 19:12Speaker 2: I get the message. Ethan is attentive. Like, you know,
- 19:16Speaker 2: trying to make it sexy. You know, we love a
- 19:17Speaker 2: hair tuck, right? This could have worked, but not three times,
- 19:21Speaker 2: not three times. I hear you.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I hear you.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Not three times for me. I have some more. The
- 19:26Speaker 2: dad's beef was so ridiculous.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Get over it.
- 19:29Speaker 2: This is something that could have been worked out in 2017.
- 19:32Speaker 2: It did not need to cancel the town's big event
- 19:36Speaker 2: over who won.
- 19:38Speaker 1: When they get in the boats, my husband goes, looks
- 19:40Speaker 1: like it'd be pretty easy to bump into another pumpkin.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I was like, what are these guys? You're not going
- 19:46Speaker 1: to turn on a dime. Get over yourself.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I'm so annoyed by it. He cheated. He bumped me.
- 19:52Speaker 1: They're all bumping each other.
- 19:54Speaker 2: That was so dumb. Did your husband like this movie?
- 19:57Speaker 2: Because it was way fall.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Fall 100%. He thought it was fine.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I was in work mode.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I still got a few more I want you to
- 20:05Speaker 2: jump in. Well, I don't know why Allie needed to
- 20:08Speaker 2: be such a fence or this. Because she is discouraging
- 20:13Speaker 2: Nadine and Ethan's relationship the entire movie. Maybe you're not
- 20:17Speaker 2: what Ethan needs right now. What kind of line was that?
- 20:21Speaker 1: I was like, that's so rude. Well, my husband was like,
- 20:24Speaker 1: is she trying to like horn in on like the
- 20:27Speaker 1: Ethan of it all? But I just didn't understand it
- 20:30Speaker 1: because they didn't have bad history. They just were kind of,
- 20:33Speaker 1: it had never worked out. The timing had been bad.
- 20:35Speaker 1: He was the one that got away.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you didn't like... break her heart into a million
- 20:39Speaker 2: pieces as 17 year olds and then her friend is
- 20:42Speaker 2: ride or die for her and you know saying like
- 20:44Speaker 2: don't do it again it's.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Just life circumstances had kept them apart Nadine's clearly into
- 20:50Speaker 1: this guy he he's got a job he's not a
- 20:53Speaker 1: bad guy Like, there's no red flags here.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I didn't like that either. But then, like, Nadine takes
- 20:59Speaker 2: it one step further and, like, is trying to matchmake
- 21:02Speaker 2: with the other, like, farmer girl.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Lola.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Yeah. She's like, oh, you guys make a cute couple.
- 21:07Speaker 2: I'm like, what are you doing? You like this man.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Why are you doing this? You're self-sabotaging.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Yes, I didn't like that either. And I saw that
- 21:14Speaker 1: Lola storyline coming from a mile away because at one
- 21:16Speaker 1: point before we meet Lola, the mom mentions Lola. And
- 21:20Speaker 1: I was like... Who's Lola? And of course, as soon
- 21:23Speaker 1: as they show up and Lola's like real cute, I
- 21:25Speaker 1: was like, oh no, it's a faux conflict.
- 21:29Speaker 2: It's a.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Totally. What do we call misdirection? It's... A red herring. Yeah,
- 21:34Speaker 1: kind of.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just like an obstacle that they're like, we're
- 21:36Speaker 2: not thrown away here.
- 21:38Speaker 1: She and Mayor Jacob have their little connection. So that's great.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Now I'm going to agree with you a little bit.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Cake pops are a cute food, not a good food.
- 21:47Speaker 1: So the fact that they do a cake pop taste
- 21:50Speaker 1: test to determine the winner is the wrong competition. It
- 21:53Speaker 1: should be who made the cutest cake pops. Of course,
- 21:55Speaker 1: the cake pops themselves look identical. They were obviously made
- 21:58Speaker 1: by a master cake pop maker because cake pops are
- 22:01Speaker 1: very hard to make.
- 22:02Speaker 2: So hard to make.
- 22:03Speaker 1: And I enjoy cake pop.
- 22:05Speaker 2: I do. But when is the last time you had
- 22:07Speaker 2: a cake pop?
- 22:08Speaker 1: I buy them in the store. What?
- 22:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Really? I love a cake pop.
- 22:14Speaker 2: No, I'd rather buy a slice of cake in the
- 22:16Speaker 2: grocery store.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I like both, but I like a cake pop. Anyway.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I'm really craving a slice of carrot cake right now.
- 22:22Speaker 1: That sounds good.
- 22:23Speaker 2: It's the season, I think.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Tis the season. Yeah. What kind of birthday cake should
- 22:27Speaker 1: I get?
- 22:28Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm not going to be here. What
- 22:30Speaker 2: kind of birthday cake do you want when I come back?
- 22:33Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I don't know what I want.
- 22:35Speaker 2: By the time this airs, your birthday will.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Have long since passed. Yes.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Yes.
- 22:41Speaker 1: You know, I don't know if this is a wish
- 22:42Speaker 1: or not. It's just something I was thinking about. This
- 22:43Speaker 1: is pretty low conflict. Like the entire movie centers around
- 22:47Speaker 1: like this dumb conflict between the dads. And is the
- 22:51Speaker 1: regatta going to happen? Which, of course, we know that
- 22:53Speaker 1: the regatta is going to happen. And then there's like
- 22:56Speaker 1: a brief, brief whiff of a moment of conflict with
- 22:59Speaker 1: Nadine and Ethan where she gets like kind of irritated
- 23:01Speaker 1: with him when it looks like it's not going to happen.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I don't know if it's a wish. Just this pretty
- 23:07Speaker 1: low conflict.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Well, I have a wish with the regatta logistics here.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Is it not on her dad's property? And that is
- 23:16Speaker 2: the whole snafu of trying to get him to sign
- 23:18Speaker 2: the permit and et cetera, et cetera. You're just going
- 23:21Speaker 2: to take this man out for breakfast and you're going
- 23:23Speaker 2: to set up this whole huge ass town event while
- 23:27Speaker 2: the man is having pancakes.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:29Speaker 2: At the local diner.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Nobody else is talking about, hey, the regattas this weekend.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Nothing. He has he's completely unaware of it.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Yeah. Weren't they going to have to advertise? Like, how
- 23:38Speaker 1: are they getting signups that this man doesn't know about?
- 23:40Speaker 1: I know he's not on, you know, the Internet. Right. Yeah.
- 23:45Speaker 2: They did try to make him be like he'd is
- 23:48Speaker 2: unaware of like life that's going on around him.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Modernization. Yes. But it just drives, it just drove me crazy.
- 23:54Speaker 1: It just drove me crazy.
- 23:56Speaker 2: We're going to set it all up in a span
- 23:58Speaker 2: of maybe an hour. No, you're not. No, you're not.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Those things, sometimes I can overlook them. This one, it
- 24:07Speaker 2: bothered me.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Yeah. But that was it. Let's talk. Did you see that?
- 24:11Speaker 2: I only have one.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Let's hear it.
- 24:13Speaker 2: First of all, Nadine is right. They need to make
- 24:15Speaker 2: that little cute store at the marina so much cuter.
- 24:19Speaker 2: It needs to have an espresso machine there. It needs to,
- 24:23Speaker 2: it needed so much stuff, but here's my did you
- 24:25Speaker 2: see that. They have like shelves behind them and there's
- 24:28Speaker 2: absolutely no merchandise on them. Nothing. There's like two books.
- 24:33Speaker 2: I'm like, what are you selling here? Like you don't
- 24:36Speaker 2: have sunscreen, hats. You're at the marina where.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Like people coming. Yeah.
- 24:41Speaker 2: What are they?
- 24:42Speaker 1: They need their stuff.
- 24:43Speaker 2: It needed to be cute little tchotchkes.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Yes.
- 24:48Speaker 2: That's my favorite kind of store to go into.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Me too.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Where you got some stationery and some pins and some
- 24:52Speaker 2: like cute this and a cute local stuff and like
- 24:54Speaker 2: a dish towel.
- 24:55Speaker 1: A little sweatshirt and a. Sweatshirt.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I was freaking lonely. None of that. Like please spend
- 25:01Speaker 2: some budget. Like gather up things. Ask the community to
- 25:04Speaker 2: bring things so you can like outfit this set.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Go to the damn Dollar Tree.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Something.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I think they did go to.
- 25:11Speaker 2: The Dollar Tree for all that.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Faux foliage.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Yes, ma'am.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Okay, well, speaking of things that are faux, the pumpkin. Okay,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I love how they're like, we're going to carve it
- 25:21Speaker 1: and then cut, right? So they cut to, because obviously
- 25:25Speaker 1: it's fake, this vat of pumpkin guts. And then they've like,
- 25:30Speaker 1: the thing that I feel bad about is now they
- 25:31Speaker 1: filled this faux pumpkin with real pumpkin guts. And now
- 25:34Speaker 1: they have to get them all out because they're showing
- 25:36Speaker 1: them scooping it out of there. Yeah, but you don't
- 25:38Speaker 1: actually see inside of it. They could just have like
- 25:40Speaker 1: a real small pumpkin in there. I know, but they
- 25:42Speaker 1: still made it messy. Nonetheless, yes. Yeah.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Did she get pumpkin on her face and then he
- 25:47Speaker 2: had to like wipe it off?
- 25:48Speaker 1: I can't remember.
- 25:49Speaker 2: It might have been one of the scenes. I think
- 25:50Speaker 2: it was in her hair. It was. There was a
- 25:52Speaker 2: seed in her hair. You're right.
- 25:53Speaker 1: That's a good one. That's a lucky seed. Oh, that's
- 25:55Speaker 1: a good one.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Don't touch my hair. Don't touch my hair. Unless you're
- 25:58Speaker 2: tucking it behind my ear.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Okay. So when they have their meeting about the regatta,
- 26:03Speaker 1: the ladies are all there. And I think Ethan is too.
- 26:06Speaker 1: The meeting has lasted maybe 90 seconds. They sit down.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Allie is making coffee for everyone. She sits down for
- 26:12Speaker 1: 10 seconds and goes, more coffee, anyone? And someone goes, yes, please.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Y'all haven't even had a chance to touch your coffee.
- 26:18Speaker 1: She just sat down and she said, it doesn't make
- 26:20Speaker 1: any sense.
- 26:20Speaker 2: She goes, your machine's on the fritz again or whatever.
- 26:23Speaker 2: I just saw Ethan pour himself a cup.
- 26:26Speaker 1: This movie names its own trope. Nadine at one point
- 26:28Speaker 1: says like, the Friends to Lovers pipeline isn't a romantic
- 26:31Speaker 1: trope for no reason. Great. Thank you.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Thank you. Great.
- 26:35Speaker 1: And that's it. What did you rate Pumpkin Regatta Romance?
- 26:38Speaker 1: I'm like hovering.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I can't decide. I think I'm a 3.75 stars.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Okay. That's where I'm at too. 3.75.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Almost four.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Almost four.
- 26:45Speaker 2: But not quite four.
- 26:46Speaker 1: It was fun though. Yeah.
- 26:48Speaker 2: I can't believe I liked it as much as I did.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Me either. I can't wait for these two Halloween movies
- 26:52Speaker 1: to come. Me too. By the way, tomorrow is the
