- 0:07Speaker 2: What's up, everybody, welcome to move the sticks. DJ Bucky
- 0:09Speaker 2: Ratt back with you, Buck, what's going on and how
- 0:11Speaker 2: you doing?
- 0:12Speaker 3: I am doing well. I'm not doing as well as
- 0:15Speaker 3: my two partners on the podcast because both of you
- 0:17Speaker 3: guys have these grins like the cat that ate the canaries.
- 0:21Speaker 3: I have on my left, I have the padres man
- 0:24Speaker 3: who just feels like it's on and pops and you're
- 0:26Speaker 3: so excited. You already have the I won't say champagne
- 0:30Speaker 3: because knowing you, you have the sparkling apple cider Martin Ellie's.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Martin ellis good idea.
- 0:37Speaker 4: You got the Martin Elli's ready to just pop the top.
- 0:40Speaker 3: And then I got my unbeaten Indiana hoosier over here.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Who's already I didn't know he owned this much Indiana gear.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I see all of it.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Who is already googling where should I see at possible
- 0:52Speaker 3: playoff destination?
- 0:53Speaker 4: So yeah, a lot right now? Yeah I am good.
- 0:58Speaker 1: News is guys, the first first round in Bloomington. So
- 1:01Speaker 1: don't worry. We're all good. First rounds in Bloomington. We're
- 1:04Speaker 1: welcoming we'll welcome the Crimson Tide to Bloomington and then
- 1:07Speaker 1: we'll see where we go from there.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Oh, man, don't be the first. Don't be the first
- 1:11Speaker 2: who's here to say we want Bama. Don't be that guy, right,
- 1:14Speaker 2: don't do that. We setting up, all right, all right,
- 1:18Speaker 2: it's time for the lead block, presented by Team Mobile
- 1:21Speaker 2: for Business, football needs and network willing to go the
- 1:23Speaker 2: extra yard. So do you now go further with Team
- 1:26Speaker 2: Mobile for Business and leading things off? Today? Guys, we
- 1:28Speaker 2: have breaking news just came down maybe an hour or
- 1:31Speaker 2: so ago before we started recording that as Robert Salad
- 1:33Speaker 2: has been let go as a head coach of the
- 1:35Speaker 2: New York Jets. Buck, I'll go to you. I mean
- 1:37Speaker 2: it just first immediate reaction. We can get into this.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Man, it's such a weird thing, right. I know that
- 1:43Speaker 3: there've been a number of coaches that have been fired
- 1:45Speaker 3: after a London trip. I don't know if this was
- 1:48Speaker 3: I don't know if this was necessarily the time, right
- 1:51Speaker 3: because like the team starts off, they stumbled, then they
- 1:54Speaker 3: come back and win to then they lose to I
- 1:57Speaker 3: don't I don't know if you could say, like, hey,
- 1:59Speaker 3: Robert Salad is the problem the issue that you have though,
- 2:03Speaker 3: and I saw Woody's Woody Johnson's statement, you talked about
- 2:07Speaker 3: expectations and how they had an expectation to be an
- 2:10Speaker 3: elite team.
- 2:12Speaker 2: And those things.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I don't know, man, it's too early to tell, Like
- 2:16Speaker 3: who's going to shake out? I mean we're only a
- 2:18Speaker 3: quarter the way through the season, and so I think
- 2:21Speaker 3: Robert solid is a victim of expectations. But I will
- 2:24Speaker 3: say this, whenever the team, like you have a game
- 2:28Speaker 3: against the Denver Broncos where the team didn't look like
- 2:31Speaker 3: he was prepared to deal with inclement weather, and then
- 2:34Speaker 3: you go on the road and you have a slow
- 2:36Speaker 3: start against the Minnesota Vikings, it just puts him under
- 2:41Speaker 3: the spotlight like, hey, did you have your team ready
- 2:43Speaker 3: to play? And sometimes for an owner that could be
- 2:46Speaker 3: a fireball offense.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Man.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean like Bucky, like, does this make them
- 2:53Speaker 1: a better football team today?
- 2:56Speaker 4: I don't know that it does.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I still feel like there was certain a lot of
- 3:00Speaker 1: things that didn't go Robert Sala's way that we're probably
- 3:03Speaker 1: a little bit out of his control, you know with
- 3:07Speaker 1: starting with the whole Aaron Rodgers, you know situation. I
- 3:10Speaker 1: think there's a lot of people that probably where where
- 3:13Speaker 1: they are right now. And look the head coach, obviously,
- 3:17Speaker 1: you know, get gets the hook on that one.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Could they have fired Nathaniel Hackett?
- 3:21Speaker 1: No, right, I mean unless you were gonna jettison Aaron
- 3:24Speaker 1: Rodgers too, right, I mean like that's a that's a
- 3:26Speaker 1: package deal. I mean, like there's that felt like if
- 3:28Speaker 1: they were going to make a move, this is the
- 3:30Speaker 1: only one that they could really make.
- 3:32Speaker 4: DJ It's unfortunate as it sounds.
- 3:36Speaker 2: This was the parallel I was looking at this morning.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And then why in the process of doing that, actually so,
- 3:41Speaker 2: I think Chris Simms had tweeted something about it, about
- 3:44Speaker 2: this parallel, because I wanted to look at this and say,
- 3:48Speaker 2: how does this compare to Tampa and Brady? Right, Obviously,
- 3:51Speaker 2: the forty plus quarterback long time success one place goes
- 3:55Speaker 2: to a new place, and when's the super Bowl? So
- 3:57Speaker 2: obviously the ultimate level of success there when he got
- 4:00Speaker 2: to Tampa. And I'm like, okay, there's a lot of
- 4:02Speaker 2: things that are similar here, but then there's some differences.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Let's start. First of all, they both went to talented rosters.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Tampa when Tom got there was talented. The Jets are talented.
- 4:11Speaker 2: They both brought some buddies with him. You know, you
- 4:14Speaker 2: think about Gronk shows up down there and Tampa to
- 4:16Speaker 2: kick the tires on Antonio Brown, you know, tried to
- 4:18Speaker 2: get him in there, who Brady had had a relationship with,
- 4:21Speaker 2: So you got kind of the buddy thing going on.
- 4:24Speaker 2: And I'm like, okay, well, what's the difference. Well, you start,
- 4:26Speaker 2: first of all the coaches. I think Bruce arians on
- 4:30Speaker 2: the offensive side of the ball, and Bruce arians more
- 4:32Speaker 2: of a all you know, all kind of talk down
- 4:35Speaker 2: to any of you guys. I don't care if you're
- 4:36Speaker 2: the greatest of all time, whoever you are. It's a
- 4:39Speaker 2: I'm at top and you're beneath me. And I think
- 4:42Speaker 2: maybe from the jet side of things, I think they
- 4:44Speaker 2: might have elevated Aaron, you know, ahead to the top.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Really if you could make a case to the top
- 4:49Speaker 2: of the organization in terms of the influence and power
- 4:52Speaker 2: in direct line to the owner everything else. I mean,
- 4:54Speaker 2: that's just what it looks like from the outside. So
- 4:57Speaker 2: that's one difference. And then even that, I mean, you
- 4:59Speaker 2: remember there it was a lot of frustration with Tom
- 5:01Speaker 2: Brady early on there with the Bucks, with how they
- 5:04Speaker 2: were not it was I think they were three and two.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I think they were three and two after their first
- 5:09Speaker 2: five games. Not that different from the record here where
- 5:12Speaker 2: the where the Jets find themselves. The other thing that
- 5:15Speaker 2: and this is not this is not a it's not
- 5:19Speaker 2: a podcast fun topic. It's not a talk radio fun top.
- 5:23Speaker 2: But you know, one of the things I was thinking
- 5:24Speaker 2: of that that it was a little bit odd to me,
- 5:27Speaker 2: like if you're Tom Brady and you're going into the
- 5:29Speaker 2: last part of your career, You've been playing in cold
- 5:31Speaker 2: weather your whole life. You go down there and play
- 5:33Speaker 2: in Tampa. You're playing in great weather in Tampa. Look
- 5:36Speaker 2: at the look at their logs of where they played
- 5:38Speaker 2: that year. I mean they're in warm weather. They're in domes.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Like I think he had a game against Chicago. It
- 5:42Speaker 2: was the game against Chicago somewhat early in the season.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Remember when he forgot it was fourth down, Buck, We're
- 5:47Speaker 2: doing the the Mssile game that night. He didn't know
- 5:50Speaker 2: what down it was. But that was like the only
- 5:52Speaker 2: like outdoor like tough of like Aaron Rodgers, you could
- 5:56Speaker 2: have you could have gone and played in the dome somewhere.
- 5:58Speaker 2: You could have you know, as an older player gone
- 6:00Speaker 2: to warm weather like you're going and playing with the Jets,
- 6:03Speaker 2: and obviously we haven't even got to the you know,
- 6:05Speaker 2: the messy part of the season, but he already played
- 6:06Speaker 2: the monsoon against the Denver Broncos in one game. So
- 6:10Speaker 2: I don't know. I just thought like, it's interesting to
- 6:11Speaker 2: how they both kind of picked the places that they went.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Some things they had in common, but I think just
- 6:17Speaker 2: kind of the maybe the presence of the head coach
- 6:19Speaker 2: was a little different in each place. And honestly, I'm
- 6:21Speaker 2: just going through. You tell me if I'm crazy, but
- 6:23Speaker 2: I'm like, one of the major differences is actually the
- 6:26Speaker 2: environment in the weather is actually pretty significantly different from
- 6:30Speaker 2: from Tampa to the Jets.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Buck.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it's funny you brought that up because
- 6:35Speaker 3: I would say, you talked about two MVP quarterbacks, super
- 6:40Speaker 3: Bowl winning quarterbacks going to different destinations. I would say
- 6:43Speaker 3: it probably illuminates maybe the leadership difference between Tom Brady
- 6:47Speaker 3: and Aaron Rodgers and the connectivity that Tom Brady appeared
- 6:51Speaker 3: to have with his teammates in Tampa, and maybe Aaron
- 6:54Speaker 3: Rodgers has some of that. But I just think it
- 6:56Speaker 3: speaks to their different leadership styles and what they were
- 6:59Speaker 3: able to get. But I think it's also important that
- 7:01Speaker 3: you're right. The Ten Bay Buccaneers, I think at one
- 7:04Speaker 3: point during this season was set that they might have
- 7:06Speaker 3: been seven even five seven.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Before did a losing streak, Like yeah, seven five before
- 7:12Speaker 2: they got it going.
- 7:13Speaker 3: And it wasn't just that. It was the friction between
- 7:15Speaker 3: Bruce arians and Tom Brady. Tom Brady wanting maybe a
- 7:20Speaker 3: firmer hand when it came to the coach dealing with
- 7:23Speaker 3: other players as opposed to what it was, and it
- 7:25Speaker 3: took them a while to find that that that happy medium.
- 7:29Speaker 2: That's why I say, like a quarter of the season
- 7:31Speaker 2: is so hard. It's an early hook man. That's an
- 7:34Speaker 2: early hook And I know Roger dude, when he pushed
- 7:37Speaker 2: him away Buck though and Wrett, I mean when they
- 7:40Speaker 2: go to hug it pushed the way. I'm like, I
- 7:41Speaker 2: don't where you go from here.
- 7:42Speaker 3: It's done.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It was done, and they played it off right and
- 7:46Speaker 1: tried to like it was just you know, it was
- 7:49Speaker 1: a back and forth thing, kind of an inside thing
- 7:51Speaker 1: about something that's you know.
- 7:52Speaker 4: It felt weird right the side eye, the whole thing
- 7:55Speaker 4: it felt weird. I'll say this that.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I mean, you were you were playing on Monday night
- 7:59Speaker 1: in week six for first place in the AC East.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So you could make the argument that the raised It's true,
- 8:07Speaker 1: you could play that from two separate sides of it. Right,
- 8:10Speaker 1: You're like, all right, Woody Johnson's looking at this and
- 8:13Speaker 1: he's like, it's now like this is our this is
- 8:16Speaker 1: an opportunity for us to turn this thing in a
- 8:18Speaker 1: different direction. You're like, all right, Like he's got this
- 8:23Speaker 1: team able to play for first place in the division
- 8:26Speaker 1: of week six and despite the fact that the offense
- 8:29Speaker 1: has been terrible, right since twenty twenty one, the Jets
- 8:32Speaker 1: offense has averaged seventeen points a game, you know, And
- 8:35Speaker 1: then you look at the defense, solid specialty over the
- 8:38Speaker 1: course of his career there and they're number one and
- 8:41Speaker 1: a majority of important categories. So like, you know, that
- 8:45Speaker 1: side of it is working, but like the collective part
- 8:48Speaker 1: of it, there has been a disconnect.
- 8:49Speaker 4: The complimentary part of it has been disconnected.
- 8:52Speaker 1: And you can say there's a lot of different circumstances
- 8:54Speaker 1: for that quarterback missing on, Zach Wilson, Rogers getting hurt.
- 8:59Speaker 1: All that plays apart, but here they are in week
- 9:03Speaker 1: six with an opportunity to take control of the division.
- 9:06Speaker 1: So let's see if jeff Olbrick can get it done.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I guess is where we're at on this thing. But
- 9:10Speaker 1: does it change the offense? Does it change the way
- 9:12Speaker 1: that the offense is planned? No?
- 9:14Speaker 2: I mean they have no timing, no rhythm whatsoever. Yeah,
- 9:17Speaker 2: and that's not going to be impacted by this decision
- 9:20Speaker 2: right now.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Look, I think it also from an ownership standpoint, everyone
- 9:25Speaker 3: has heard great things about jeff Aulbrick, right, and so
- 9:28Speaker 3: if you remove solid, you really haven't changed any of
- 9:30Speaker 3: the structural stuff that you do. Like they may change
- 9:33Speaker 3: the practice schedule a little bit or whatever, but you're
- 9:35Speaker 3: still getting the same defense to go with the offense
- 9:38Speaker 3: to Aaron Rodgers prefers. And if you believe that Ober
- 9:41Speaker 3: can be a valuable head coaching candidate, you're giving him
- 9:45Speaker 3: a long run to get the job. And so I
- 9:48Speaker 3: think it has to be an internal thing where people
- 9:51Speaker 3: in the building feel like jeff Oulbrick has potential as
- 9:54Speaker 3: a head coach, and so you want to give him
- 9:56Speaker 3: an opportunity to fully take over and take command. Because
- 10:00Speaker 3: even talked about we believe we have a staff and
- 10:02Speaker 3: a team that can win and we believe it Olbrick
- 10:05Speaker 3: could be the guy to get the best out of them.
- 10:08Speaker 4: And we we're on that topic.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I know you guys are going to talk to Jim
- 10:11Speaker 1: Maggie coming up this week here, but Jeff Olbrick was
- 10:15Speaker 1: elevated to the head coaching role, you know, in the
- 10:17Speaker 1: Senior Bowl, and so you know, be curious to see what,
- 10:20Speaker 1: you know, how that kind of resonated with players and
- 10:22Speaker 1: with other you know.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Coaches there.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Schrager also mentioned that that, you know, he was told
- 10:27Speaker 1: that Rogers did not have a significant role in the
- 10:29Speaker 1: firing run.
- 10:30Speaker 4: It's alid maybe not directly, but indirectly.
- 10:33Speaker 1: The issues with the offense are a big reason why,
- 10:36Speaker 1: because you can't you can't just sit here and pinant.
- 10:38Speaker 4: You know, they can't stop anybody.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, yeah, that's interesting, I would say, if
- 10:46Speaker 2: I'm remembering correctly in the office, you know, as last
- 10:48Speaker 2: year was not going well, right, Rogers gets hurt, Zach
- 10:51Speaker 2: Wilson is not. It's not panning out. They're losing a
- 10:53Speaker 2: bunch of games. I'm almost positive I have to go back
- 10:56Speaker 2: and look it up that Aaron Rodgers at one point
- 10:58Speaker 2: time late in the season or maybe even at the
- 11:00Speaker 2: end of the season, had said I give full support
- 11:03Speaker 2: to Joe Douglas and Robert Slid Like he came out
- 11:08Speaker 2: and staunchly defended them, and they ended up, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 2: running it back. So I don't know, maybe maybe that
- 11:13Speaker 2: didn't have any impact on them surviving last year. But
- 11:18Speaker 2: I've got to believe that when you go out and
- 11:20Speaker 2: hire his hand picked offensive coordinator before you trade for
- 11:25Speaker 2: him in order to lure him there, it's hard for
- 11:27Speaker 2: me to believe that he just has He's just an
- 11:30Speaker 2: innocent bystander and has no sense and everything that goes on,
- 11:34Speaker 2: what does.
- 11:34Speaker 4: It tell you? And look at DJ.
- 11:36Speaker 1: I know you're you're close with Joe d but like,
- 11:38Speaker 1: what does it tell you when an owner makes the move?
- 11:41Speaker 2: Yeah? Well, first of all, like everything gets busy in
- 11:44Speaker 2: the football world. And I known Joe for twenty years,
- 11:47Speaker 2: but I haven't talked to Joe since before the draft.
- 11:49Speaker 2: So I know, I always am always leary because I
- 11:52Speaker 2: think anytime I say stuff, people like you. Right every week,
- 11:56Speaker 2: I'm like full transparency. We have not spoken since the draft.
- 12:00Speaker 2: He's got a job to do, so yeah, he's a
- 12:02Speaker 2: little busy, but so uh no, I you know, I
- 12:06Speaker 2: think it came. I believe that that it came straight
- 12:08Speaker 2: from the owner, and that's that's his prerogative when he
- 12:10Speaker 2: owns the team. And look, you this could end up
- 12:13Speaker 2: working out great. They win this week, like you said,
- 12:14Speaker 2: right there in first place, and whatdy, Johnson will get
- 12:18Speaker 2: applause for doing what you know you felt like needed
- 12:21Speaker 2: to be done. You own the team, you get to
- 12:22Speaker 2: make those decisions. But yeah, I wasn't surprised that it came,
- 12:25Speaker 2: you know, from the ownership level this early in the season.
- 12:28Speaker 2: That usually is something from the very tip top.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just I don't know, Like I can't say, look,
- 12:35Speaker 3: you had three plus years. I just think when your
- 12:38Speaker 3: team is close and the defense is playing well, we
- 12:41Speaker 3: can't minimize solid contributions to the defense playing well. You
- 12:45Speaker 3: remove him from the situation. And even though Ubrick is
- 12:47Speaker 3: the defensive coordinator, when you're the defensive head coach and
- 12:50Speaker 3: they're running your system, you have some of the answers
- 12:54Speaker 3: to the tests when problems arise in those things, and
- 12:57Speaker 3: so do you weaken the strength of your team. We're
- 13:00Speaker 3: moving to hate coach and the defense was his baby,
- 13:02Speaker 3: So we're just going to see how that plays out.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's uh, it's fascinating when you look at
- 13:07Speaker 2: at this decision coming at this moment in time. We'll
- 13:09Speaker 2: see how the Jets react and respond with a big
- 13:12Speaker 2: game coming up on Monday night against the Buffalo Bills.
- 13:14Speaker 2: That's a wrap for the lead block presented by T
- 13:16Speaker 2: Mobile for Business. Football needs a network willing to go
- 13:18Speaker 2: the extra yards. So do you go further with T
- 13:21Speaker 2: Mobile for Business. Let's say quick break, we come back.
- 13:24Speaker 2: We'll get into the rookie draft right after this. All right,
- 13:31Speaker 2: we got a it's time for a little rookie draft.
- 13:33Speaker 2: We can look back. We don't need to be much time.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Four four four, uh, Moses Malone right there with time.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I mean technically I win though, right because I was
- 13:40Speaker 1: only playing with two players.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Well, I mean maybe maybe read the injury report and.
- 13:50Speaker 3: On your own.
- 13:52Speaker 4: There's no injury reports.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Boys, Well you know maybe later in the week when
- 13:57Speaker 2: you see an injury report, you try and get yourself
- 13:58Speaker 2: a new guy in the lineup. You know, it's fair,
- 14:00Speaker 2: all right, all right, fine, we're going on this thing.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Let's where we're going. Let's find solutions. Let's not let's
- 14:05Speaker 2: not identify the problems. Let's find solutions. Here. Congratulations RTT,
- 14:09Speaker 2: you got the first pick.
- 14:11Speaker 4: I do.
- 14:11Speaker 1: And this is an interesting one because you know, now
- 14:14Speaker 1: we have two quarterbacks that you know, you can kind
- 14:17Speaker 1: of fight over, because I won the quarterback battle last
- 14:19Speaker 1: week with Caleb Williams and not as the number one pick.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And Caleb's been playing some good ball and he's got
- 14:24Speaker 1: the Jaguars Bucky coming coming into Soldier Field, whereas the
- 14:29Speaker 1: commanders and Jayden Daniels are going into Baltimore right and
- 14:33Speaker 1: taking on a defense that just gave up what thirty
- 14:35Speaker 1: eight points did Joe Burrow, although I can't imagine that happening.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Really, you're really waffling here on this decision.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Yeah, give me, give me Caleb. Let's go Kleb. Let's
- 14:51Speaker 4: go Kayleb at number one.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Come on, all right, I'm not going to spend much
- 14:56Speaker 2: time going say I'll take Jaden Daniels with the second one.
- 14:58Speaker 2: It's a short trip, short trip over there at Baltimore.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Go ahead, Buck, you got back to backers, Okay, back
- 15:04Speaker 2: to back.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Well, I mean, since the quarterback thing has been decided
- 15:08Speaker 3: for me, I'm gonna go and take two weapons. And
- 15:10Speaker 3: so let's take Brian Thomas Junior. Just because he's a giant.
- 15:15Speaker 3: I want to make sure I give him his proper respect.
- 15:18Speaker 3: But then let's go with Marvin Harrison. At some point,
- 15:22Speaker 3: at some point, we got to get we got to
- 15:23Speaker 3: feed him, so we gotta we got to find a
