- 0:11Hello, and welcome to Nick and Kristen in the podcast.
- 0:13I'm Nick. That's Kristen.
- 0:15It's a podcast and we have a daughter that's seven and we're
- 0:17married. So there's your brief summary of
- 0:19what you've stumbled upon in the weird world of podcasting.
- 0:23And we're going to talk more about being married and having a
- 0:27kid and, and the things that go along with that.
- 0:30So we're going to kick it off with a new segment that I'm
- 0:33going to call Married People's Problems.
- 0:36So just fun quick questions that we get to ask our significant
- 0:39other just to see how they react because we're getting to know
- 0:41each other even though we've been married for now for 10
- 0:43years. Yeah.
- 0:44I think we know plenty about each.
- 0:46Other we do, but there's questions like some of these
- 0:47questions we've never asked each other, so I'm curious.
- 0:50They're not going to be deep, not not at first.
- 0:52We're going to have fun. With them, OK, sure, because.
- 0:53Like, no one wants to go diving. Yeah.
- 0:56So the first one is what is a household chore that you
- 0:59secretly think you do the right way and I do wrong?
- 1:03Well, all of them. All of them?
- 1:05Yeah, all of the chores. You think I.
- 1:07Do all of the chores right and you do them wrong and I can back
- 1:10it up. OK, so you cleaned the house
- 1:14today? I did.
- 1:15OK. Great.
- 1:16Very appreciative that. I feel like it.
- 1:18That's not going to be what you're saying next.
- 1:20So how was dusting? It was fine.
- 1:24Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 1:25Did you dust the upper cabinets in the living room?
- 1:29No. OK so when I clean I dust all.
- 1:33Parts of the house, everything when you clean every week.
- 1:36Well, no, I haven't done that in a while.
- 1:38But when I do clean, I take everything off the shelves and I
- 1:42wipe it all down so it's nice and clean and then I put and I
- 1:45dust the things and then I put them back up.
- 1:48That's. What I call a deep clean.
- 1:50I'm not deep cleaning every two. Weeks that's what actual
- 1:52cleanliness looks like it doesn't I mean what did you dust
- 1:56today I. Didn't dust anything.
- 1:57Yeah, exactly. So you don't do it.
- 1:59Right. I don't dust.
- 2:00So you can say that the chore that I don't do to your standard
- 2:04is dusting, but me cleaning it doesn't.
- 2:08It's not all negated because it didn't.
- 2:09Dust example #2 the shower that you clean.
- 2:13Yeah, OK. It has had hair dye on it on
- 2:17the, the, the the shower door. Since I dyed my hair over a
- 2:22month ago, it has not been cleaned.
- 2:25Every time I look I see that brown hair dye on it and I go,
- 2:29huh, He's not cleaning the doors.
- 2:32Go check out the door. Did you I?
- 2:34Cleaned the door today, Yes, because I just noticed that
- 2:36there's some ugly brown stuff on that door.
- 2:38Yeah, 'cause it's a. Bad door.
- 2:39It's my hair dye. It's been there since I dyed my
- 2:42hair last, which could have. Been a month ago, could have
- 2:43been a month ago. It's been there a month and
- 2:46every time you've cleaned, I've looked and I've still seen it
- 2:49there and I've gone. Huh.
- 2:50Is he just not cleaning the shower?
- 2:53But I'm. Grateful for you to do anything
- 2:56so I'm not complaining. So the doors are the last thing
- 3:00I cleaned. So I don't clean the doors
- 3:02because I'm like, they're that, that like frosted glass.
- 3:05And so you like can't really tell.
- 3:07You can't really tell them you're dirty, but.
- 3:09Like how? Many more.
- 3:10Occasionally do you want? Occasionally I do clean the
- 3:12doors, but I mostly clean the inside.
- 3:14And this recent time I was like, hey, that door is gross, let me
- 3:18try and clean it. And I bought a special like
- 3:21cleaner because I didn't have anything to like scrub it with
- 3:23because I've cleaned the door before and it didn't come off.
- 3:26So I was like, oh, no, door screwed.
- 3:27So I went and bought a scrubber and that today I used that
- 3:30scrubber for the first time. It came right off.
- 3:31Yeah, it was great. So what else do you got?
- 3:33What else do you want to complain about?
- 3:34What else don't? I do, I'm just saying like you
- 3:36asked me what do I not clean to my specifications?
- 3:40I've given you 2 very. Concrete ideas.
- 3:43So now it's your turn. It is my turn.
- 3:45That's right. You know what you don't clean
- 3:47well? Dishes.
- 3:48What? Do you mean?
- 3:49Every time you clean the dishes, like the pots and the pans,
- 3:52there's always some gunk left in the pan that I have to scrub
- 3:55out. Like today you made or you clean
- 3:58the one that we made her cheesy pasta in and like I pull it up
- 4:01and there's a full cheese ball right in the middle.
- 4:04So you scrub the edges. No, I don't.
- 4:06And you leave the middle to be unscrubbed.
- 4:09And so it's not the first time. And pretty much every time you
- 4:12like hand wash dishes, there's something there.
- 4:14So you don't do the dishes to my standard.
- 4:16Well, I'm the person that would put my pots and pans in the
- 4:19dishwasher. The fact that I'm washing them
- 4:21by hand at all is because of you.
- 4:24I'm trying to accommodate your request well and I will try and
- 4:27I will try. Expensive pots and pans so
- 4:29you're accommodating your. Wallet I will try to.
- 4:32I thought I was doing a good job.
- 4:33If I'm not doing a good job, this is how I know and learn.
- 4:35I yes, but it doesn't bother me enough that I would bring it up
- 4:38to. You exactly.
- 4:39I'm not bringing up the other things.
- 4:41Well, just because that's the only thing I have in life and
- 4:43you're going to take that away from me.
- 4:44But yeah, if you want me to dust, I I've never been a fan of
- 4:48dusting, but I know that it needs.
- 4:49To be done now I. Just I don't, we don't have
- 4:51like, I'm not saying it doesn't need to be done, I just don't.
- 4:54Like I'm not a fan. Of.
- 4:56Dusting, like I understand nobody's a fan of anything, like
- 5:00nobody's a fan of vacuuming unless you're a weirdo.
- 5:03OK, like but if you if you notice that the carpets need to
- 5:07be clean like you have to dust because that's also getting on
- 5:11top of the cabinets and all that stuff like.
- 5:14Well, in our house, dusting is such a, it's such a pain in the
- 5:17ass because we have, well, you have 1000 books and I have 1000.
- 5:21Like if I needed to dust my nerd room, like that's a once a year
- 5:24thing because, well. You also don't spend any time.
- 5:27In there, dusted, like it's like a rearrangement.
- 5:30It's just a whole thing. They don't have a cluttered
- 5:33room. I don't, I just have a shelf and
- 5:36like I'm assuming you want us to dust the blinds.
- 5:38I don't know if our blinds are dusty.
- 5:39They're incredibly dusty. Are they?
- 5:41Well, I'm sure they're dusty, but they're not like the foldy
- 5:43blinds. Those get dusty.
- 5:45All dines all all blinds get. Dusty.
- 5:47Yeah. So everything's kind of dusty
- 5:48but you. Know and that's like that's 90%
- 5:51of cleaning well then. It's not oh, that's like the
- 5:54it's. 51% because the dust. Disagree.
- 5:58The dirt. But everything else is clean.
- 6:00I wipe down the counters, I vacuum, I sweep.
- 6:03All the things that we touch are clean and that's the important.
- 6:06I think that's. 90. Percent is dusting.
- 6:10But you understand that even if you can't see it, it still needs
- 6:13to be cleaned, because then you can't call it.
- 6:15Clean once he's. Sneezy everywhere.
- 6:21Oh gosh, my allergies. It's like, oh, I'm allergic to
- 6:24the house. It's no, because you're not
- 6:25dusting. Go.
- 6:26Ahead and ask your significant other this same question and see
- 6:29how they respond. See what fight it brings you.
- 6:32Yeah, this is your own therapy at home that you it's like a a
- 6:35fun play at home game now. Yeah.
- 6:37So this is the thing that I popped up on Reddit that I
- 6:40thought would be a fun conversation for us.
- 6:42Well, what do you think your most uttered phrase is as a
- 6:45parent? So some of the answers that we
- 6:48had was please keep your hands to yourself.
- 6:50Who's turning to take a bath first?
- 6:53Bring your plate to the counter. Please say that.
- 6:55So yeah, we don't ever say that. So what do you think is your
- 6:57most uttered phrase as a parent? Yeah, it's probably can we, can
- 7:02we lower the volume? Did you know that I was going to
- 7:05say that? No, I didn't know, but I I
- 7:06understand. That of the music of the person.
- 7:12It's all the things, everything that you and the child do are at
- 7:16full volume all the time. And there's just no reason for
- 7:20the TV to be that loud. There's no reason for me to have
- 7:22to yell over the music. There's no reason that the the
- 7:25singing in the back of the car has to be so loud.
- 7:28The singing is loud. And I'm always like, can we turn
- 7:30it down like, and I've been treating it like an Amazon Alexa
- 7:34device. I've been going volume 5 like
- 7:37you're at an 8 right now. It's it's a volume.
- 7:39I needed it a volume 5 because I'm trying not to be
- 7:42discouraging like when. She's singing.
- 7:45And stuff like that. Like I want to encourage her
- 7:47creativity because she's making up songs in the back of the car.
- 7:49It's just at like ear piercing level.
- 7:52And I'm already like on edge from having a difficult day or
- 7:56whatever it is. Or it's like we drove to the
- 7:58beach over the weekend. It's a 2 hour drive, both the
- 8:01air and back. Like there's like so much, so
- 8:03much that I can tolerate in a small vehicle.
- 8:06It's like volume 5. You would drive with silence.
- 8:09I do. And so I would, I would drive
- 8:11blasting music and so would Lily.
- 8:13And so but Lily does her own music while I'm blasting music.
- 8:15So it's like a it stacks on you. What's your most uttered phrase
- 8:20from her? Let's see, as a parent, can you
- 8:27put your pants on? I think is 1.
- 8:29I say a lot. The amount of times I have to
- 8:31remind her to get dressed in any situation, just any clothes at
- 8:35all. Not that she's like running
- 8:36there the house naked she does after her bath but like it's the
- 8:41girl would live in PJS all day if we could and it's just like
- 8:44it's. I've never realized what a
- 8:46hassle it is to get her to get into like regular clothes.
- 8:49It's so frustrating. Yeah, it's brush your teeth.
- 8:51I say that a lot. Yeah.
- 8:53What is the problem? Can you, can you put your pants
- 8:55on some of the other phrases were we can go straight to bed.
- 8:58If you're going to have an attitude, I don't say.
- 9:00That I've never said. That get your finger out of your
- 9:02nose. Never said that, but I say it.
- 9:04Get your fingers out of your mouth.
- 9:05Yeah, where she's. A nail biter.
- 9:06Where are your socks? I've.
- 9:08Said that plenty of times. Said that twice today.
- 9:10Yeah, we have sticks at home. Oh my gosh, I.
- 9:14Thought that was. That is a hard one because I I'm
- 9:17constantly like, how many more sticks do we need?
- 9:20She's like, but this stick is really great.
- 9:21I'm like granted it's a great stick but.
- 9:23I watched some videos back from when she was a kid and she has
- 9:26been a forager her whole life. It's the weirdest thing.
- 9:30Even as like a tiny baby, she sees something sparkly, she
- 9:33picks it up and she takes it home and we have just areas of
- 9:37just piled rocks. And she comes home like she
- 9:40would come home from school with like, garbage, but it was shiny
- 9:43garbage, yes. And like rappers of things that
- 9:46were, she's a, she's a crow. It's yeah, she sees little
- 9:49things and she's creating like little nests with these.
- 9:52And I, I I throw it all away. When she sleep like she doesn't
- 9:55really remember it all most of the time but she like just picks
- 9:58up I mean. The girl's got eyes like a hawk.
- 10:02I'm all the bird metaphors are coming out today.
- 10:04Eyes like a hawk, scavengerness like a crow.
- 10:08Like she's just constantly like seeing little things.
- 10:12And then she picks it up and puts it in her pocket and I'm
- 10:13like, do we need to take that? And lately I've been having a
- 10:16lot of success with like we leave the parks as we find it.
- 10:21So like the leaves and the, the rocks and the sticks, like if
- 10:26everybody took a stick home, if everybody, everybody took a rock
- 10:29home, there'd be nothing left in the forest.
- 10:31Like we leave the forest as is. If we have a snack, we bring the
- 10:35trash with us. We don't leave it in the forest.
- 10:38We leave the rocks and everything as it is.
- 10:40But even her first grade teacher was like, boy, she really loves
- 10:43nature, doesn't she? And I was like, yeah, why?
- 10:45She's like, she's always coming in from recess with all kinds of
- 10:48sticks. And then she has like these name
- 10:50tags that were on her desk. I don't even know if you know
- 10:52this. Yeah.
- 10:53Like, they have the name tags. If you lifted up her name tag,
- 10:57there's tiny pebbles and little little leaves and stuff
- 11:00underneath it that she was keeping but then she forgets
- 11:02about. Yeah, it's wild.
- 11:03It's the weirdest thing. Like, I don't know if kids do
- 11:06this. I don't see any other kids doing
- 11:08this. No.
- 11:08And so we thought rock hunting was perfect for her because she
- 11:11loves going around picking up rocks.
- 11:12But now she's accumulating just a like a butt load of rocks that
- 11:16aren't agates. Like we're like, agates only,
- 11:18please. Yeah.
- 11:19Which is sports or something like, you know, really, really
- 11:21like not valuable but like interesting, right?
- 11:23But she picks up just. Granite.
- 11:25This one's Yeah, Granite. Like how much yellow Jasper do
- 11:28we need, kid? But like my mom got her a rock
- 11:32and mineral book for for the end of school.
- 11:35And so it's like she likes looking through that and like
- 11:37categorizing it. We need to get a wildflower one.
- 11:40We need to get a plant 1 so she can like learn about these
- 11:43things. Yeah, she's going to do
- 11:44something, something with nature at some point, I think.
- 11:46Or what she said one time she's like, I want to be a geologist.
- 11:49I was like, that checks out. You love looking to the ground
- 11:53and picking up stuff and it's your whole thing.
- 11:55Yeah. And I worry that it's hereditary
- 11:58like you know, cuz I have broken tendencies or I have like a
- 12:02habit of collecting things. Yes.
- 12:05And you're a broken. Man who's trying to be fixed.
- 12:07I thought it was damaged, like, I thought it was like, no, no, I
- 12:09have to hold on to these things. Yeah, because.
- 12:12And I have to treat them nicely or I'll lose them forever.
- 12:15And I don't. It doesn't seem like that's the
- 12:18case. Like it seems that we have just
- 12:20a foraging attitude in the blood where she's just like forage or?
- 12:24Foraging. I think the thing in the blood
- 12:26is ADHD because that's the foragingness.
- 12:29This like the accumulation, the little the little trinkets, the
- 12:33little piles of things. Surrounding by clutter.
- 12:35Yeah, like that's what it really kind of is.
- 12:38That's symptomatic of it. Again, I'm not like diagnosing
- 12:41anybody, but like that it's not that you just have a gene.
- 12:45So wait of forging. I'm not passing down the singing
- 12:48of myself, making up songs, being loud all the time.
- 12:50Like all of this is those classic ADH.
- 12:53That's not genes, I'm just the distracted gene.
- 12:57It's. An ADHD Jane and you've passed
- 12:59it on to our kid. You're unmedicated.
- 13:02And at one point she, if she if this continues and we realize
- 13:06that this is what it is, there will be medication involved.
- 13:10But yeah, but there is a it's funny because there's a forest
- 13:13camp and it's like a summer camp.
- 13:16No, it's, it's not a summer camp.
- 13:17It's an actual school. And they spend 90% of the class
- 13:21outside. I told you about this.
- 13:23And like, they learn what all the flora and fauna is.
- 13:26They walk through the nature stuff.
- 13:28They have all, they do all their homework out there.
- 13:30And then like they go inside and do some like educational.
- 13:33She would die for that. But it's in Portland and I'm not
- 13:37driving every day to Portland. It does feel like Portland.
- 13:39But it's like, I would love like she would flourish in that
- 13:43environment, but it's also like not traditional education and
- 13:46like I kind of want her to have a traditional.
- 13:48Education. Like if you could have a
- 13:49traditional education in nature, would that would be cool.
- 13:52We're just open the windows at your school and that would be
- 13:55cool too. I know she's the typical like I
- 13:57want, can't we have class outside like that's essentially
- 14:00what this is. Barefoot on the grass kind of
- 14:02kid. She would do so, so well, and I
- 14:05wish that I could pull the trigger on something like that.
- 14:07But first of all, it's too far. I'm not driving.
- 14:09I'm not driving to Portland every day.
- 14:11And 2nd, that's like, I'm like, OK, well who's graduating?
- 14:14Like what have they gone on to? Like I.
- 14:16Want to make sure that like, oh all of our graduates go on to
- 14:19four year educations because we do instill a love of learning.
- 14:22All of our graduates are artists.
- 14:24Right. And then there's nothing wrong
- 14:26with that. And she wants to be an artist
- 14:27and that's fabulous. But I want there to be some sort
- 14:30of living within the structure and finding the creativeness
- 14:33within it. Something to fall back.
- 14:35On yes, as as sort of education as our present current situation
- 14:40goes, it was yes. We can't put all our eggs in one
- 14:42basket. She can be an artist and also
- 14:45learn how to program. AI and also own a business or.
- 14:47Something like that. Take a business.
- 14:49Class. Something well, this podcast is
- 14:51brought to you by Yeah, that's right, we have a sponsor.
- 14:53I know you've got through this. You went.
- 14:54How the hell is anybody paying? For this, my mom actually asked
- 14:56me. She's like, is the Clark County
- 14:57Trash Panda is actually paying you guys?
- 14:59And I was like, yes. Yes, I've tried to tell them to
- 15:02stop, but they won't. They keep sending me money.
- 15:04So Clark County Trash Pandas, They're coming to Clark County
- 15:07and they're going to be a basketball team with the
- 15:09Basketball League 40, three teams in that league and you can
- 15:12go see them for like less than 20 bucks.
- 15:15You can go and get these tickets to this game.
- 15:16They're going to be in the community supporting everything
- 15:18that they do here in the community.
- 15:19They're popping up. Look for Bandit, the Trash
- 15:21Banda. They're looking for a dance
- 15:23coach and all sorts of things like this.
- 15:24They're putting this team together.
- 15:26March is when they're launching the whole thing 2027 so you got
- 15:30to be a part of this. You got to go look at Clark
- 15:32County Trash pandas.com and just to read the official copy, the
- 15:35Clark County Trash Pandas where community, passion and
- 15:37professional basketball come together.
- 15:39And it's true. The guy behind it really wants
- 15:41to do something in this community and really thinks that
- 15:43it's a shame that there's a other big basketball team here
- 15:47in the. Area Blazers.
- 15:48That don't do anything so. Yeah, they.
- 15:49Don't do anything. You never see the Blazers do
- 15:52anything, and it's such a shame because other cities have these
- 15:55basketball teams where they're like always going to the
- 15:57schools, meeting the kids. The Golden State Warriors are in
- 16:02the community, like everywhere I know so.
- 16:04They actually win. And, well, they don't start
- 16:07throwing shade. I don't need people coming
- 16:09after. Us now look, I'm not from here,
- 16:10OK, I'm not like I love the Blazers no matter what like I
- 16:13didn't grow up with the Blazers, OK All I know is they that you
- 16:17rarely see them and like you see these other teams that have like
- 16:20Steph Curry on it who's like a household name he's on the
- 16:23Wheaties boxes and he's like going down to the schools and
- 16:26meeting the kids. It's like, OK, can we have?
- 16:29Maybe we just don't know about these.
- 16:30They're maybe they're visiting Portland.
- 16:32I don't know. They don't.
- 16:33They need a better publicist then.
- 16:35I don't know. All right, I'm sorry, Trail
- 16:36Blazers. I'm just this is a perception.
- 16:38Problem. But either way, the Clark County
- 16:39Trash bandits are on the perception train.
- 16:41Like we're here to tell people that they're out there and
- 16:43they're taking pictures and stuff, so follow them.
- 16:45On social. Media take a picture, but yes,
- 16:48go follow them and make sure you get your tickets, the tickets.
- 16:50Season tickets go on sale in October.
- 16:53Thank you for watching and we'll see you next time.
