- 0:00Speaker 1: Section thirty of the Heart of the New Thought by
- 0:04Speaker 1: Ella Wheeler Wilcox. This LibriVox recording is in the public domain.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Woman's opportunity, the greatest opportunity to better the world which
- 0:18Speaker 1: can come to any woman, is through the experience of maternity.
- 0:23Speaker 1: The power of pre natal influence which a mother possesses
- 0:27Speaker 1: is oh inaspiring to realize. It has been said upon
- 0:33Speaker 1: excellent authority that Napoleon's mother read Roman history with absorbing
- 0:40Speaker 1: interest during the months preceding his birth. Think of the
- 0:44Speaker 1: nations and the centuries. Influenced by that one woman's mental concentration,
- 0:50Speaker 1: the geography of the world was changed by her power
- 0:54Speaker 1: of focused thought. In all probability, Napoleon's mother did not
- 1:00Speaker 1: know what she was doing. She was not conscious of
- 1:03Speaker 1: the destiny her mind was shaping for her unborn child,
- 1:09Speaker 1: nor of the law governing such conditions. Women have been
- 1:13Speaker 1: strangely ignorant of this vital truth. Until recent years. It
- 1:19Speaker 1: has not been considered a proper theme for tongue or
- 1:23Speaker 1: pen and to day the great majority of young women
- 1:27Speaker 1: marry absolutely uninformed upon the subject of prenatal influence. Men
- 1:34Speaker 1: are equally oblivious of any knowledge regarding the matter, and
- 1:39Speaker 1: consequently make no special effort to keep the expectant mother
- 1:45Speaker 1: of their offspring, happy, hopeful, or free of anxiety and
- 1:49Speaker 1: worry during this period. Often they do not strive to
- 1:55Speaker 1: aid them in their own attempts to bestow a desirable
- 1:58Speaker 1: temperament upon the unborn child, but heedlessly and needlessly every
- 2:05Speaker 1: gate or grief the mind which is tamping its impressed
- 2:09Speaker 1: upon an unborn soul. It is just here that the
- 2:15Speaker 1: new thought can perform its greatest miracles of good. Even
- 2:20Speaker 1: the woman who has not been enlightened upon the law
- 2:24Speaker 1: of anti birth influence, will, if a true disciple of
- 2:29Speaker 1: the religion of right living, bring healthy and helpful children
- 2:34Speaker 1: into the world, because her normal state of mind will
- 2:38Speaker 1: be inclusive of those three qualities, and her continued and
- 2:43Speaker 1: repeated assertions of her own divine nature will shape the
- 2:47Speaker 1: brain of her child in optimistic and reveential mold. There
- 2:53Speaker 1: is the old law of the continual falling of the
- 2:57Speaker 1: drop of water upon the stone, to be verified in
- 3:00Speaker 1: the spiritual plane. Continual assertions of a mother that her
- 3:06Speaker 1: child will be all that she desires it to be
- 3:10Speaker 1: will wear away the stone of inheritan tendencies and bring
- 3:15Speaker 1: into physical being, a mallible nature, wholly amenable to the
- 3:20Speaker 1: after influences and efforts she may bring to bear upon it.
- 3:25Speaker 1: It is a tremendous responsibility which rests upon the woman
- 3:30Speaker 1: who knows she is to be a mother of a
- 3:33Speaker 1: human being. A hundred ancestors may have contributed certain qualities
- 3:40Speaker 1: to that invisible and formless atom which contains an immortal soul.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Yet the mother's mind has the power to remake and
- 3:50Speaker 1: rebuild all those characteristics, and to place over them her
- 3:56Speaker 1: own dominating impulse, whether for good or ill. Surely, if
- 4:02Speaker 1: success in the arts or the sciences is worthy of
- 4:05Speaker 1: years of devoted attention and interested effort, the molding of
- 4:10Speaker 1: a noble human being is worth eight or nine months
- 4:14Speaker 1: of concentrated thought and unflagging zeal of purpose. Every expectant
- 4:22Speaker 1: mother should set herself about the important business God has
- 4:27Speaker 1: entrusted her with, unafraid and confident of her divine mission.
- 4:33Speaker 1: She should direct her mind into wholesome and optimistic channels.
- 4:38Speaker 1: She should read in aspiring books and think loving and
- 4:43Speaker 1: large thoughts. She should pray and aspire, and always should
- 4:48Speaker 1: she carry in her mind the ideal of the child.
- 4:53Speaker 1: She would mother and command from the great source of
- 4:57Speaker 1: all opulence, the qualities she would desire to perpetuate, and
- 5:03Speaker 1: they will be given. End of Section thirty
