- 1:41Speaker 8: I'm Fred.
- 1:42Speaker 9: I'm Marlena.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And we're back.
- 1:44Speaker 8: As we continue this non-stop Oscar party.
- 1:49Speaker 1: The Muppets just won Best Original Song.
- 1:52Speaker 8: That's pretty awesome since there were only two options. As
- 1:56Speaker 8: we round out this, the fourth annual Movie Meltdown Oscar
- 2:00Speaker 8: festivities and all the episodes that take place around them.
- 2:04Speaker 8: This one, once again, being the fourth installment, is Oscar Meltdown.
- 2:09Speaker 10: Pigs in space.
- 2:15Speaker 8: Man, we don't need any of those special effects. We're
- 2:17Speaker 8: just that damn good. We are coming to you live
- 2:20Speaker 8: via digital recording from Nancy's Bagel Grounds where we'll get together,
- 2:23Speaker 8: eat dessert, which some people are going to miss out.
- 2:26Speaker 9: Maybe I'll stay back.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Sucker! Has Fred ever had... Is this the.
- 2:31Speaker 8: Yes, it's coming very soon.
- 2:35Speaker 2: It's crack.
- 2:36Speaker 8: Oh, crack. I love crack. It's not cake eating.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It's like dessert crack.
- 2:45Speaker 11: I didn't know you had a crack.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Pastry crack.
- 2:48Speaker 9: I was wondering if it was going to be dessert.
- 2:52Speaker 11: We're calling it Bobby Brown.
- 2:54Speaker 8: We will have our pastry crack and discuss a fine
- 2:57Speaker 8: outer space film. So we once again welcome our mascot.
- 3:02Speaker 8: We have Babe the Pig here standing by, guarding over
- 3:05Speaker 8: us like the Mary on your dashboard. Babe will see
- 3:09Speaker 8: us through and keep us safe throughout this ongoing battle.
- 3:13Speaker 8: It is Oscar Meltdown. You can wear one of those
- 3:15Speaker 8: around your neck.
- 3:19Speaker 12: Wow.
- 3:19Speaker 8: So I guess we can get out the crack now.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Get out the crack.
- 3:23Speaker 8: All right.
- 3:23Speaker 9: We're wearing out the crack on the crack box.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Everybody left and right.
- 3:34Speaker 8: Break it down. Back in 79.
- 3:36Speaker 6: The Jambaloo Shee in 1992.
- 3:38Speaker 9: I did the Chris.
- 3:39Speaker 6: Ball in 2008. I did the Cloverfield Monster.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I said, fuck that shit.
- 3:42Speaker 6: I went back to the Belushi. It's like gas, gas, gas, gas, gas.
- 3:46Speaker 9: It's just like, you know, like.
- 3:47Speaker 8: My boyfriend and I had this conversation last night about how.
- 3:50Speaker 13: There's posters everywhere that say Crack.
- 3:54Speaker 9: Hill's Crack doesn't fucking kill. It makes you live forever.
- 4:14Speaker 9: Crack makes you live forever. If Whitney Houston had stuck
- 4:17Speaker 9: with crack, she would still be alive 40 years from now.
- 4:20Speaker 8: That's true.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Damn it, Whitney. Crack is good.
- 4:25Speaker 9: The only thing it kills is other people that you
- 4:27Speaker 9: have to kill to steal their money and buy your film.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Oh, Lord. So this is... Are you going to tell
- 4:33Speaker 2: me what's in this, or do I want to know?
- 4:34Speaker 2: You don't want to know.
- 4:35Speaker 8: Crack. It's crack with extra crack.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 4:40Speaker 9: Maybe a little foil if you're not careful.
- 4:43Speaker 8: That's because I'm too poor to have a real pan.
- 4:46Speaker 8: If by next year somebody buys a real pan that
- 4:48Speaker 8: I don't have to put foil in.
- 4:50Speaker 2: The Jeff pan. That's what I need. Everything will be like,
- 4:55Speaker 2: the Jeff pan. I'm fine with that. The Jeff microphone.
- 5:00Speaker 8: If he's up for that, I'm fine.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Jeff Meltdown.
- 5:06Speaker 8: That might be taking it too far.
- 5:08Speaker 11: We're coming to you from Jeffersonville.
- 5:11Speaker 8: No.
- 5:12Speaker 2: No.
- 5:15Speaker 8: We'll get our own studio then.
- 5:17Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:18Speaker 14: Jeff Studios.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Jeff Studios in Jeffersonville.
- 5:21Speaker 9: He just loves us so much.
- 5:23Speaker 11: I like that lady who gave her life savings. She
- 5:27Speaker 11: was going to donate it to the public library, but
- 5:30Speaker 11: then she gave it to Charles Bronson. Do you remember that?
- 5:33Speaker 2: No.
- 5:34Speaker 8: And he wouldn't turn it down either. This was in
- 5:37Speaker 8: the newspaper. I like that guy.
- 5:39Speaker 11: When we first moved to Louisville, this was going on.
- 5:43Speaker 9: What?
- 5:43Speaker 11: And the library was trying to contest her mental health.
- 5:47Speaker 8: Charles Bronson's awesome. And say that he wouldn't turn it down.
- 5:53Speaker 11: No, he was gonna take it.
- 5:55Speaker 9: He's like, I need, like.
- 5:58Speaker 11: I'm sure she had.
- 5:58Speaker 8: I'm sure the lady had her reasons.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I'm sure the lady.
- 6:01Speaker 8: Had the crackdown. Okay, I need this lady's money. Come on.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Maybe he just.
- 6:07Speaker 9: Wasn't earning enough money from his man boom club.
- 6:11Speaker 2: This stuff's wrong.
- 6:13Speaker 8: That's what makes it so right.
- 6:15Speaker 11: If cracked is wrong, I don't want to be right.
- 6:20Speaker 2: So could we call it a Bobby Brownie?
- 6:23Speaker 8: We love Bobby Brown so much.
- 6:28Speaker 9: What's not to love?
- 6:30Speaker 1: It's my prerogative if I want to call this the
- 6:33Speaker 1: Bobby Brownie.
- 6:34Speaker 15: Do you know one of his newer songs since then?
- 6:36Speaker 16: Oh wait, you're done.
- 6:40Speaker 15: You can't go past Brody Canyon.
- 6:43Speaker 1: The theme from Ghostbusters 2.
- 6:45Speaker 8: And what after that?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Every Little Step.
- 6:49Speaker 8: I think that was before. The theme from Hoodwinked 2.
- 6:52Speaker 15: Was it really?
- 6:56Speaker 9: No.
- 6:57Speaker 8: Nobody would give him a job, man.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Was it really?
- 6:59Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 7:02Speaker 2: You could call Whitney Houston one of his hits. I'm
- 7:04Speaker 2: sure he hit her at one point.
- 7:07Speaker 11: I heard this interview with Norm MacDonald, who I kind
- 7:10Speaker 11: of love, and he was talking about jokes because he
- 7:15Speaker 11: depended on jokes because he's not one of those people
- 7:18Speaker 11: who can just be funny. Like he was somewhere at
- 7:22Speaker 11: some award show and He had his memorized word-for-word material.
- 7:28Speaker 11: And Sinbad was there. It all comes back to Sinbad.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I love that guy's movies.
- 7:33Speaker 11: Yeah, and Sinbad was just all relaxed and calm. And
- 7:37Speaker 11: he's like, I need some socks. You go with me
- 7:39Speaker 11: to buy some socks. So he goes with Sinbad. They
- 7:42Speaker 11: go to a store. And they go in. And there's
- 7:45Speaker 11: nobody there. But a lady comes out from the back.
- 7:47Speaker 11: It takes her like a second to come out. And
- 7:50Speaker 11: he buys socks.
- 7:51Speaker 8: And they go back.
- 7:52Speaker 11: And then they go on that night. And Norm does
- 7:56Speaker 11: his like word for word material. And then Sinbad goes
- 8:00Speaker 11: out and says, what is it with these stores that
- 8:03Speaker 11: sell socks? You go in there and there's nobody there.
- 8:08Speaker 8: And the audience is like agreeing with him.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 8: And Norm was just like, what the fuck is this?
- 8:16Speaker 17: What happened?
- 8:20Speaker 11: But the joke I was I was remembering that was
- 8:23Speaker 11: like the holy grail joke for him it was like
- 8:26Speaker 11: it was a joke that what was it the setup
- 8:29Speaker 11: and the punchline were as close to being the exact
- 8:33Speaker 11: same thing as possible it's just you're just saying this
- 8:38Speaker 11: is funny.
- 8:41Speaker 1: He did that a lot on Saturday Night Live where
- 8:43Speaker 1: he would say you know you.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Know no that was the joke everybody.
- 8:47Speaker 11: Yeah just say it again yeah yeah So the joke
- 8:50Speaker 11: was that Lyle Lovett and Julia Roberts were getting divorced,
- 8:56Speaker 11: they announced. And people close to the couple said the
- 8:59Speaker 11: reason was because he's Lyle Lovett and she's Julia Roberts.
- 9:05Speaker 18: I forgot that they were married.
- 9:10Speaker 15: That's just so weird.
- 9:11Speaker 9: Is she still married to that one guy that she
- 9:13Speaker 9: had all those kids with?
- 9:14Speaker 2: The photographer? Yeah. I think so. Yeah, I think so.
- 9:19Speaker 9: It was kind of sweet because once she was on
- 9:21Speaker 9: Oprah and she was talking about how much she loved him,
- 9:23Speaker 9: it was kind of almost believable.
- 9:25Speaker 15: It seemed legit.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 6: Which is weird for any Hollywood relationship.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Her timer went off. Yeah.
- 9:35Speaker 8: It's true.
- 9:36Speaker 9: Or she could have just been a really good actress.
- 9:38Speaker 9: I mean, you can argue all you want about finding
- 9:41Speaker 9: her attractive or not, but she is.
- 9:42Speaker 2: A good actress. I think she even used to be attractive.
- 9:45Speaker 15: Now I just haven't... I don't.
- 9:46Speaker 8: Know what happened. She's kind of... Skinny.
- 9:52Speaker 11: I mean, she wasn't like, you know, super attractive, but man,
- 9:55Speaker 11: she had that smile. Her smile was wider than her
- 9:59Speaker 11: whole face. Her smile like went out.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I think she'd be the type that once you got
- 10:07Speaker 1: her completely away from anything that.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Had to do with Hollywood.
- 10:11Speaker 11: And had sex with her.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Well, no. I'm talking about you'd be sitting around.
- 10:17Speaker 1: reading a book or something like that, I think she'd
- 10:19Speaker 1: be infinitely more attractive in that situation than on television.
- 10:25Speaker 8: I think she's more likable on that stuff, just like
- 10:28Speaker 8: her as herself. As herself, yeah.
- 10:30Speaker 9: Was that the first of, like, America's Sweethearts?
- 10:32Speaker 8: No, that was a horrible fucking movie.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I never watched it.
- 10:36Speaker 11: I never watched that movie.
- 10:37Speaker 2: I mean.
- 10:39Speaker 8: It was on cable.
- 10:40Speaker 11: That was like the.
- 10:41Speaker 8: I saw it. I just sat there going, these are
- 10:43Speaker 8: all people that have been good in other movies. What
- 10:46Speaker 8: is going wrong with this?
- 10:49Speaker 2: Everybody that's in it, I'm like, I like these people
- 10:52Speaker 2: in one role or another.
- 10:53Speaker 11: What the fuck happened here?
- 10:55Speaker 1: Is that Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell?
- 11:00Speaker 11: Will Ferrell.
- 11:01Speaker 8: Why?
- 11:02Speaker 11: And what's his name?
- 11:03Speaker 2: I'm sure they've got, that's not Judd Apatow, is it? Probably.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Wasn't he nominated for Best Screenplay?
- 11:11Speaker 8: For what? I'm trying to think what came out there.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Bridesmaids.
- 11:17Speaker 8: But I thought that was Kristen Wiig. Was Will Ferrell
- 11:21Speaker 8: in that?
- 11:22Speaker 11: Was he the bride?
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, he was.
- 11:25Speaker 8: I thought Kristen Wiig and her friend were the ones
- 11:28Speaker 8: that wrote it. Okay.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're probably right.
- 11:32Speaker 8: But I'm trying to think. There was something else that
- 11:34Speaker 8: came out. It was probably his, because he's involved in
- 11:38Speaker 8: fucking everything now.
- 11:39Speaker 9: They don't make a comedy about it.
- 11:41Speaker 16: I don't want to think about movies.
- 11:43Speaker 8: Because that's the only thing they were up for. He's
- 11:45Speaker 8: pretty good. Was he involved in that.
- 11:51Speaker 11: Paul Rudd thing? Just about every Paul Rudd thing he's
- 11:54Speaker 11: involved in.
- 11:55Speaker 8: Hopefully not that new crap.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 11:59Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I want to see that.
- 12:01Speaker 9: He's not actually that good.
- 12:03Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 12:04Speaker 8: That new horrible one pairing him with Jennifer Aniston doesn't
- 12:08Speaker 8: fix anything.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Oh, the one where the preview is like, where's the
- 12:13Speaker 1: funny part?
- 12:14Speaker 8: Yeah. The whole time I just sat there going, this
- 12:17Speaker 8: looks like... Oh, the hippie commune. Yeah. Like the worst.
- 12:21Speaker 1: It's like they throw out the punchlines of the scenes.
- 12:25Speaker 9: Is it like an extension of My Idiot Brother?
- 12:28Speaker 11: No, it's like a couple.
- 12:31Speaker 8: They wind up in a hippie commune. Oh, God.
- 12:35Speaker 9: It sounds like the premise for that fucking movie is, like,
- 12:37Speaker 9: Kirstie Alley.
- 12:38Speaker 8: And Tim Allen.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Oh, my God. I think a Kirstie Alley, Tim Allen
- 12:43Speaker 2: movie would kill me.
- 12:46Speaker 9: They, like, end up in Amish land.
- 12:48Speaker 2: You know, there's Amish women, though.
- 12:51Speaker 9: I know. They're pretty hot, but they're kind of dirty.
- 12:54Speaker 2: You know who's really hot?
- 12:55Speaker 3: Oh, wait.
- 12:56Speaker 8: Witness.
- 12:57Speaker 11: Witness. Witness was the hot Amish lady.
- 13:00Speaker 9: What's the movie with Patricia Arquette and Joseph Gordon-Levitt? I
- 13:03Speaker 9: love that movie when I was a kid.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Patricia Arquette.
- 13:06Speaker 8: I remember, yeah. I don't remember what the hell it was,
- 13:10Speaker 8: but I remember it being on cable.
- 13:11Speaker 9: I saw that for sale at a flea market or
- 13:13Speaker 9: something the other day.
- 13:14Speaker 8: I do know which one you're talking about.
- 13:16Speaker 9: Yeah. She's like hiding. She like robbed a bank or something.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Wow.
- 13:21Speaker 8: Hiding out the Amish version.
- 13:24Speaker 9: Why would the Amish people just let you hang out there?
- 13:26Speaker 6: Like they're Amish.
- 13:27Speaker 9: They don't even let you use your cell phone in
- 13:29Speaker 9: their presence.
- 13:30Speaker 11: Well, they do that thing like with teenagers where they
- 13:34Speaker 11: have like six months.
- 13:36Speaker 16: Or a year or something.
- 13:37Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 11: I was hearing this story by a guy who wrote
- 13:39Speaker 11: a book called, uh, the Amish guide to fucking.
- 13:43Speaker 9: And, um, is that a real book?
- 13:45Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 13:45Speaker 9: I must buy that.
- 13:46Speaker 11: Yeah. And, uh, And it was about he and his
- 13:50Speaker 11: girlfriend had been together since, I think, high school, and
- 13:53Speaker 11: they were like the stable couple that all their friends
- 13:55Speaker 11: came to when they were upset. They just seemed more
- 13:59Speaker 11: grown up than everybody else. But then they were going
- 14:01Speaker 11: to get married, but she thought before they got married,
- 14:05Speaker 11: they had to have like an Amish break period where
- 14:09Speaker 11: they saw other people so they'd know that, you know.
- 14:12Speaker 11: And so they tried doing that for three months, and
- 14:15Speaker 11: then they both agreed that three months wasn't long enough.
- 14:21Speaker 11: Then they did it for another three months, and then
- 14:24Speaker 11: they just sort of split up.
- 14:27Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, if you kind of have to be
- 14:29Speaker 9: with other people to figure out if you want to
- 14:31Speaker 9: be together, you probably don't want to be together.
- 14:34Speaker 2: It's just code for, I want to fuck other people.
- 14:36Speaker 2: I need a good way out.
- 14:38Speaker 6: This seems like the foot's.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Out the door.
- 14:40Speaker 11: Looking back on it, they thought really that You know,
- 14:43Speaker 11: they really just needed to break up, but they couldn't.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:47Speaker 11: Because they were so comfortable with each other. And things
- 14:50Speaker 11: were basically good that they couldn't make it happen without
- 14:54Speaker 11: this excuse.
- 14:56Speaker 9: Yeah. Like a transition.
- 14:58Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 14:59Speaker 11: But he said the weirdest thing for him was, you know,
- 15:01Speaker 11: because he had never dated. He said, if you want
- 15:06Speaker 11: to have sex... Like, that night you just have to
- 15:10Speaker 11: stay at a bar till four and lower your standards,
- 15:12Speaker 11: and that's all there is to it. But the part
- 15:15Speaker 11: he really enjoyed was just, like, seeing people's apartments. Because
- 15:20Speaker 11: you just wind up, like, you go to somebody's apartment
- 15:23Speaker 11: and here's their stuff. Oh, and this is how you
- 15:26Speaker 11: arrange your kitchenware, you know.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Oh, you keep the forks on the left.
- 15:31Speaker 8: Yeah. And this is what gets in my face.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I'm not interested in your vagina. I'm interested in your forks.
- 15:37Speaker 11: So, like, you use a different sponge to wipe up
- 15:41Speaker 11: countertops than the sponge you use to clean.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Why?
- 15:45Speaker 1: So how well does that cascade work on cleaning spots
- 15:48Speaker 1: off your glasses?
- 15:50Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 9: I just feel like I would be really, I don't know.
- 15:53Speaker 1: You know, yeah, if you're going to put your penis
- 15:56Speaker 1: inside of someone, at least you can know how they
- 15:58Speaker 1: keep their fork.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:59Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 16:00Speaker 8: You kind of owe it to yourself. Yeah. Really.
- 16:05Speaker 9: How could you do it without knowing?
- 16:06Speaker 4: Right.
- 16:07Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 16:08Speaker 8: You kind of want to know that first.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 16:10Speaker 15: I mean, that's one of those questions.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Are they a person that is a multiple towel user
- 16:15Speaker 1: or they use the same towel?
- 16:17Speaker 20: You know.
- 16:18Speaker 9: To dry their hands and the body.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 16:20Speaker 8: That's weird.
- 16:21Speaker 9: And do they reuse that towel?
- 16:22Speaker 2: Or do they fold or crumple when using toilet paper?
- 16:26Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 16:27Speaker 8: Do you really want to know that firsthand?
- 16:30Speaker 2: You know, if you're going to be doing weird stuff
- 16:32Speaker 2: with a person.
- 16:33Speaker 8: How weird? When you get to that point.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Well, when you're inserting parts of your body into another person, that's,
- 16:40Speaker 2: I mean. Oh, it's not that big.
- 16:42Speaker 8: Yeah, but that's a different process to me.
- 16:45Speaker 9: The way you just described sex made me never.
- 16:51Speaker 8: Yeah, you're mixing your bodily functions together.
- 16:56Speaker 9: Ew, you just make sex sound disgusting.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Greg makes sex sound disgusting.
- 17:03Speaker 11: Welcome back to Greg Makes Sex Sound Disgusting.
- 17:12Speaker 8: The highest rated podcast in all of podcast history.
- 17:16Speaker 11: Can that please be the title?
- 17:18Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't want anyone that ever has known me
- 17:22Speaker 2: outside of this to know it.
- 17:25Speaker 8: I don't know that anybody would download that. I don't
- 17:27Speaker 8: think that's a good idea. My favorite podcast.
- 17:33Speaker 9: It's like the age to have the talk with your children.
- 17:37Speaker 9: Just remember what you just did.
- 17:40Speaker 11: Yeah, that'll put them off of it.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Well, my daughter is very smart and asks a lot
- 17:46Speaker 1: of questions. And she's eight, and she kept asking my wife,
- 17:50Speaker 1: and they had to end up having the talk on
- 17:52Speaker 1: a basic level. And the other day, she was kind
- 17:57Speaker 1: of revealing to me that they'd had that conversation. And
- 18:00Speaker 1: she goes, yeah, it's just weird. I was like, yeah,
- 18:04Speaker 1: it's a little weird, isn't it? You know, that's all
- 18:07Speaker 1: we need. I don't want to go any deeper into
- 18:09Speaker 1: that at all.
- 18:10Speaker 2: But she's like, yeah, it's just weird.
- 18:12Speaker 8: Yeah, I had to do the talk with my kid.
- 18:15Speaker 11: And, you know, my daughter and I can talk as
- 18:19Speaker 11: much as she can stand.
- 18:20Speaker 8: I mean, I don't care. I'll talk about anything.
- 18:23Speaker 11: But it was kind of tricky with my boy because
- 18:26Speaker 11: I found myself like, really starting to try to give
- 18:30Speaker 11: him advice based on my experience.
- 18:33Speaker 8: Which I never try to do with anybody.
- 18:35Speaker 11: It's really hard to do. And so it kind of
- 18:39Speaker 11: came off sounding like a commercial for heterosexual monogamy.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Right.
- 18:44Speaker 8: I'm like, I don't mean that. That's just the way
- 18:47Speaker 8: things worked out for me.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:49Speaker 11: And I don't even necessarily believe in that. I mean,
- 18:52Speaker 11: I'm pretty sure I don't. It's just the choice we
- 18:55Speaker 11: made for ourselves as a... It's like not an institution
- 19:00Speaker 11: of marriage or anything.
- 19:02Speaker 8: It's just.
- 19:03Speaker 11: We just wanted to have this kind of trust, this
- 19:06Speaker 11: kind of relationship where we didn't hurt each other's feelings
- 19:11Speaker 11: and stuff. And that's how all the math shook out.
- 19:14Speaker 11: But I'm not telling you you have to want that.
- 19:17Speaker 11: I don't know. It was a nightmare to try to
- 19:20Speaker 11: work it out and say anything worth saying.
- 19:23Speaker 9: My mom just said... Did they show you a video
- 19:26Speaker 9: at school?
- 19:27Speaker 8: I was like, you know.
- 19:29Speaker 1: My number one reason for monogamy is I don't like
- 19:32Speaker 1: people that much.
- 19:33Speaker 9: It's just like, hey, baby, you know the only reason
- 19:37Speaker 9: we're still together? I kind of hate everyone else.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I just, I don't know. I don't want to go
- 19:42Speaker 2: through that awkward, creepy, weird.
- 19:45Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 19:46Speaker 11: A lot of guys I know, they go through maybe
- 19:48Speaker 11: a year of their lives where magically, out of nowhere, they're.
- 19:54Speaker 8: Interesting to women. And you don't.
- 19:56Speaker 11: Know why it happens or what's going on. And you
- 19:59Speaker 11: look in the mirror and you're like, what? But all
- 20:02Speaker 11: of a sudden, women are available to you. And that
- 20:06Speaker 11: happened to me when I was 17. I knew another guy,
- 20:09Speaker 11: a friend of mine. It happened to him when he
- 20:10Speaker 11: was 20. He's like, what the fuck is going on?
- 20:13Speaker 8: He was sleeping with another student in college.
- 20:16Speaker 11: He was sleeping with a professor. I don't know what's
- 20:20Speaker 11: going on. But it happened to me when I was 17.
- 20:22Speaker 11: All of a sudden, like, women were interested in me.
- 20:28Speaker 11: And I got so disgusted by it so fast.
- 20:31Speaker 8: It just.
- 20:34Speaker 8: And I really like women.
- 20:36Speaker 17: A lot.
- 20:37Speaker 8: More than the average bear. You know, I really do.
- 20:41Speaker 11: I never had any like, you know, I'm on the
- 20:45Speaker 11: fence about this. No, I'm pretty clear. Always have been.
- 20:50Speaker 11: But it was like right before I met Lynn. And
- 20:54Speaker 11: I just, I don't know. I don't like lots of,
- 20:57Speaker 11: I wouldn't go to a, I wouldn't want to go.
- 20:58Speaker 8: To a strip club where there are like lots of women.
- 21:01Speaker 8: Lots of women are not sexy.
- 21:03Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 21:04Speaker 8: You know, one.
- 21:06Speaker 15: I can't handle you all in groups.
- 21:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 21:09Speaker 9: Is that why there's only one girl here? I'm the
- 21:12Speaker 9: only girl here?
- 21:13Speaker 11: Yeah, we had a conversation about that.
- 21:18Speaker 8: No, so that's what happened to me.
- 21:20Speaker 11: And, you know, Lynn and I, we were hipsters.
- 21:23Speaker 8: We thought we were.
- 21:24Speaker 11: Too cool to be jealous or stuff like, or possessive.
- 21:28Speaker 8: But, you know, we were idiots anyway.
- 21:33Speaker 1: We were.
- 21:33Speaker 11: We were fucking idiots. But we thought we were pretty cool, but,
- 21:37Speaker 11: you know, things worked out.
- 21:38Speaker 9: No, we play it fast and loose. No, no, we can't.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Never mind.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Never mind.
- 21:45Speaker 11: And I don't know if you've ever tried to have
- 21:47Speaker 11: sex with two women at once. The math does not work.
- 21:52Speaker 17: Right.
- 21:52Speaker 8: That's one of those mythological fucking things.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Well, I had a friend explain that to me once.
- 21:59Speaker 1: He had said, well... You know, there was one girl
- 22:02Speaker 1: and another guy. I knew both of them, and they
- 22:04Speaker 1: had approached him. And I said, well, how was it?
- 22:08Speaker 1: He goes, leading up to it, it was fantastic.
- 22:11Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 22:12Speaker 2: And then very soon I realized that I was irrelevant.
- 22:17Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Didn't matter anymore. It was really, he said, I was
- 22:21Speaker 2: the excuse. Yeah.
- 22:23Speaker 1: So, yeah, that's like, I don't need to know where
- 22:25Speaker 1: your forks are, where you keep your towels.
- 22:27Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 2: What kind of shampoo you use.
- 22:31Speaker 8: Are those people who.
- 22:35Speaker 11: Buy sponges that are named on them for what their
- 22:39Speaker 11: use is? You cannot have sex with those people. That's
- 22:43Speaker 11: just crazy.
- 22:44Speaker 9: They're going to try to tell you exactly where to
- 22:48Speaker 9: put things.
- 22:48Speaker 11: They're going to tell you where to put parts of
- 22:50Speaker 11: your body. It's going to sound disgusting and obsessive. It's
- 22:57Speaker 11: going to be like OCD sex.
- 22:59Speaker 9: Right.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Oh, Lord.
- 23:02Speaker 9: Seven centimeters to the right.
- 23:04Speaker 11: Or like, you know, those people who flip the light
- 23:06Speaker 11: switch on and off and on and off.
- 23:08Speaker 8: You don't want that in sex.
- 23:10Speaker 2: No. You don't need OCD behavior. Unless flipping the light
- 23:14Speaker 2: on and off is really good.
- 23:14Speaker 8: Yeah. Oh, Jesus. Can you imagine Monk? Do I want to?
- 23:22Speaker 2: First of all, it's Tony Shalhoub.
- 23:24Speaker 11: So there's that. He's a total Shalhoub.
- 23:26Speaker 8: They always Shalhoub my favorite show. All right, we will
- 23:34Speaker 8: take a break and be back with more of our
- 23:36Speaker 8: Oscar shenanigans.
- 23:37Speaker 21: In a world torn apart by war and intolerance, one
- 23:41Speaker 21: voice stood out.
- 23:43Speaker 22: A voice that was strong.
- 24:03Speaker 17: A voice that was inspiring. A voice that was sometimes
- 24:08Speaker 17: hard to understand.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I want to drive the truck! I want to drive
- 24:11Speaker 2: the truck!
- 24:13Speaker 3: Askel, no! Be quiet!
- 24:14Speaker 8: Vroom!
- 24:15Speaker 21: Vroom!
- 24:16Speaker 1: Vroom!
- 24:17Speaker 12: Vroom!
- 24:17Speaker 2: Vroom!
- 24:18Speaker 17: As if it wasn't enough that he was Jewish.
- 24:22Speaker 23: I am sorry to say that your son is mentally retarded.
- 24:27Speaker 3: What does that mean, Doctor?
- 24:29Speaker 17: It means.
- 24:30Speaker 4: He'll never not be retarded.
- 24:38Speaker 17: And as if it wasn't enough that he was Jewish
- 24:41Speaker 17: and mentally retarded. Where is the wine? He was an alcoholic.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Oscar, no!
- 24:52Speaker 17: You can't have that!
- 24:55Speaker 2: I want more dizzy water!
- 25:05Speaker 8: I want to play more, puppy.
- 25:07Speaker 17: Oscar, I have some bad news for you.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Your puppy has cancer.
- 25:15Speaker 17: And it took the death of his best friend to
- 25:18Speaker 17: realize sometimes strength comes to us all.
- 25:23Speaker 24: Ah!
- 25:29Speaker 17: This holiday season, go for strength. Go for inspiration. Go
- 25:36Speaker 17: for Oscar Gold.

- 26:13Speaker 8: This is Anne Hathaway.
- 26:14Speaker 6: This is James Franco.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Be sure to watch the Oscars.
- 26:16Speaker 21: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 26:33Speaker 4: In the near future, in the shadow of Saturn's rings,
- 26:39Speaker 4: stranded beneath the surface of the barren moon called Titan,
- 26:45Speaker 4: scientists find the one thing they never expected.
- 26:48Speaker 8: Is anybody here?
- 26:50Speaker 4: Was expecting.
- 26:56Speaker 21: Oh, my God!
- 27:00Speaker 4: And suddenly, those who had traveled across the galaxy had
- 27:04Speaker 4: run out of space.
- 27:08Speaker 17: Creature. Who wants to keep us here?
- 27:16Speaker 21: What's that?
- 27:17Speaker 9: It's opened one of the doors. This thing is using
- 27:21Speaker 9: it for food.
- 27:24Speaker 6: It's using our own man to kill each other. Now!
- 27:36Speaker 17: Creature. It kills to live.
- 27:39Speaker 4: And it lives to kill.
- 27:58Speaker 9: Put your comfort supplicant.
- 28:01Speaker 25: Let me tell you what I want.
- 28:04Speaker 11: What's the use of void of course?
- 28:08Speaker 21: To be abused, make it worse.
- 28:39Speaker 2: All right, and welcome back to Movie Meltdown Sofa Theater.
- 28:43Speaker 8: And somewhere in the middle of that break, we found
- 28:46Speaker 8: Steve wandering around the parking lot.
- 28:48Speaker 6: I think he was still, like, kind of hungover from
- 28:50Speaker 6: pork earlier.
- 28:52Speaker 8: I got the diabetes.
- 28:55Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 28:56Speaker 8: We saw it off a foot, and he's ready to go.
- 28:59Speaker 2: He's fine.
- 29:00Speaker 15: We love you people with diabetes.
- 29:04Speaker 8: Oh, Lord.
- 29:05Speaker 2: All right.
- 29:05Speaker 8: This week's Outer Space Adventure Sofa Theater feature is Creature.
- 29:13Speaker 2: The year is 1985. The director, William Malone.
- 29:16Speaker 8: The plot, possibly, and this is saying a lot, one
- 29:21Speaker 8: of the laziest IMDb plots. An expedition to Titan uncovers
- 29:25Speaker 8: an alien being that goes on a rampage.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Thanks. Thanks. Thanks for clearing up the plot for me.
- 29:32Speaker 1: I could have gotten that from the cover.
- 29:35Speaker 17: Really?
- 29:35Speaker 6: So, spoiler alert, if you haven't seen this.
- 29:38Speaker 9: I feel like the Netflix breakdown of movies is more
- 29:41Speaker 9: in-depth than that. Cerebral movies with a strong female lead.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Right. It tells more about that.
- 29:47Speaker 8: It kind of does. So, spoiler alert, if you missed
- 29:52Speaker 8: this in 85, we've been slacking, so.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:55Speaker 8: Although, truthfully, I just watched it, so it could very
- 29:57Speaker 8: well happen, so.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Go watch it now. Shh, don't tell them. Go watch
- 30:02Speaker 2: it now and come back. Okay, you're back.
- 30:05Speaker 8: Yes, suckers.
- 30:10Speaker 2: I loved this.
- 30:11Speaker 8: This, before we even get to our discussion, the reason
- 30:15Speaker 8: it was even on the list was because it was
- 30:19Speaker 8: one of the premier video boxes that worked my brain.
- 30:24Speaker 8: that box for years like i just remember the cheesy
- 30:28Speaker 8: box art of the alien's face you know busted on
- 30:30Speaker 8: out of the box it wasn't a 3d when it
- 30:32Speaker 8: would only have been better if it were 3d or.
- 30:35Speaker 6: Had light up eyes or something those are my favorite boxes.
- 30:37Speaker 8: But this was close this was this was pretty high
- 30:40Speaker 8: up there of cheesy vhs box art so little did
- 30:46Speaker 8: i know how it was going to compare to the box.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Right just look at the box art for a few
- 30:51Speaker 2: hours it's yeah it's pretty awesome.
- 30:53Speaker 15: It was pixelated.
- 30:54Speaker 19: The pirated copy of Invader Zim that I bought off
- 31:01Speaker 19: of eBay five years ago and worked for maybe 38 seconds.
- 31:09Speaker 15: Looked much better than that.
- 31:11Speaker 8: That's because sometime after the release, the film fell into
- 31:15Speaker 8: public domain.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's weird.
- 31:17Speaker 8: And there are like a million.
- 31:19Speaker 6: Bad VHS and DVD copies of it.
- 31:21Speaker 8: I wonder how it fell into public domain. Usually it's
- 31:24Speaker 8: just somebody didn't license something they were supposed to. Didn't
- 31:28Speaker 8: do what they go through the motions.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Or the wrong title. It did have a title mixed up, right?
- 31:34Speaker 2: Was it?
- 31:35Speaker 8: See, that's why Night of the Living Dead is on
- 31:38Speaker 8: public domain and everybody's had a million copies of it.
- 31:40Speaker 8: It's because they licensed an entirely different title and changed
- 31:44Speaker 8: it after the paperwork was done and It got released
- 31:47Speaker 8: under one title, but all the licensed stuff is under
- 31:49Speaker 8: this movie that never happened. Well, since then, things are
- 31:52Speaker 8: technically copyrighted when they're created now.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:56Speaker 8: Just they are.
- 31:57Speaker 11: But if you want to have offensive legal rights, you
- 32:00Speaker 11: have to register it. Back then, I think it was different. Probably.
- 32:04Speaker 8: You had to make some effort.
- 32:07Speaker 2: So right off the bat, I like when a movie
- 32:09Speaker 2: reads to me.
- 32:12Speaker 8: I love when they put the text on the screen
- 32:13Speaker 8: and then they also read it to you.
- 32:15Speaker 6: I was like, yes, I don't have to read.
- 32:17Speaker 8: So aside from that, do you want to take I've
- 32:22Speaker 8: got more stuff going, but if you want to run
- 32:24Speaker 8: with it first, I am. My first thought is, OK,
- 32:28Speaker 8: we're about a minute in and man, these spacesuits already
- 32:32Speaker 8: look a lot like Alien.
- 32:34Speaker 6: We're a minute in and you're already seeing the rip-offs.
- 32:36Speaker 11: But the helmets also looked a lot like Power Rangers.
- 32:41Speaker 2: They did.
- 32:43Speaker 6: That would make them responsible for Power Rangers.
- 32:45Speaker 8: That makes this a wonderful creation that spawned TV series
- 32:49Speaker 8: and whatnot.
- 32:51Speaker 12: This movie was much better in 1979 when it was
- 32:54Speaker 12: called Alien.
- 32:55Speaker 6: Yes, yes it was.
- 32:56Speaker 2: It really, really, really was.
- 32:58Speaker 8: Except that actually had a very specific plot and... Interesting characters.
- 33:04Speaker 11: It was a cerebral movie with a strong female lead.
- 33:07Speaker 2: That one was.
- 33:08Speaker 6: This one was not.
- 33:11Speaker 12: Honestly, after I watched it, I did not get that
- 33:15Speaker 12: it was a cerebral movie with a strong female lead.
- 33:17Speaker 6: Because it wasn't.
- 33:19Speaker 2: It was not.
- 33:19Speaker 9: I don't know if that's what Netflix told us about.
- 33:23Speaker 8: No, not this one.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Netflix wouldn't recommend this one. This one was called.
- 33:30Speaker 16: Klaus Kinski in space.
- 33:32Speaker 9: Right.
- 33:33Speaker 2: It's got a whole category of Klaus Kinski in space.
- 33:36Speaker 6: Klaus Kinski in space.
- 33:39Speaker 2: You know, I will say he was... I was waiting
- 33:44Speaker 2: for him to show up. I knew he was going
- 33:45Speaker 2: to be there.
- 33:46Speaker 8: We all were.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Other than Ferris Bueller's dad. Thank you.
- 33:53Speaker 16: Ferris Bueller's dad.
- 33:55Speaker 11: Going around in what looked like a sweatsuit.
- 34:00Speaker 2: He's going to go jogging. Just that look on his face.
- 34:04Speaker 2: That hang dog look.
- 34:06Speaker 15: That guy, I don't know.
- 34:07Speaker 11: The whole movie I was distracted by, well, there's that guy.
- 34:11Speaker 2: That's true of all of them.
- 34:14Speaker 6: As you get in, like you walk in that room
- 34:16Speaker 6: and they're all sitting there. It's all like, oh, look
- 34:19Speaker 6: who it is.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Oh, look who it is. None of these people belong
- 34:21Speaker 2: in space.
- 34:22Speaker 1: No.
- 34:23Speaker 6: Because, yeah, I'm looking at him. I'm going, why does
- 34:26Speaker 6: he look so familiar? Oh, shit, that's Paris' dad.
- 34:29Speaker 7: Yep.
- 34:30Speaker 2: And then, oh, man, they go to all of them.
- 34:33Speaker 6: Then you get to, like, that blonde girl's been in everything.
- 34:35Speaker 8: Like, every TV series made from, like, the 80s till now,
- 34:40Speaker 8: she is in.
- 34:41Speaker 6: And still is.
- 34:42Speaker 11: She's an American dad girl.
- 34:44Speaker 6: Yeah, she's Francine on American Dad.
- 34:47Speaker 8: Oh, really?
- 34:47Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 34:48Speaker 2: So she's still.
- 34:49Speaker 8: Working on TV. She's come so far.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Yeah, because she's much better.
- 34:51Speaker 15: Because I actually like American Diamond.
- 34:53Speaker 8: I do too.
- 34:54Speaker 2: And she's pretty good on it.
- 34:55Speaker 15: I was not a big fan of Creature.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Well, she did all right in it.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I mean, it's not better than what it is.
- 35:02Speaker 16: It's a knockoff movie. I had forgotten that kind of 80s.
- 35:09Speaker 8: Lead chick.
- 35:10Speaker 16: Existed.
- 35:11Speaker 8: And it's like, oh, remember that?
- 35:13Speaker 2: They had the short, coiffed.
- 35:15Speaker 11: Hair and a kind of semi-androgynous look.
- 35:19Speaker 8: It's space Final Girl, you know? It's like, we gotta
- 35:21Speaker 8: have somebody still survive.
- 35:23Speaker 12: But on top of that, what about the quintessential 80s
- 35:26Speaker 12: guys that were all through this?
- 35:28Speaker 15: Like, honestly.
- 35:29Speaker 2: And there were little.
- 35:30Speaker 11: Nods to 80s fashion and what they were wearing.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Like the little... I don't know.
- 35:36Speaker 15: The mullet. The mullet was all through this picture.
- 35:39Speaker 6: Not just that. To me, I was just like.
- 35:42Speaker 26: The creature had kind of an alien mullet.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Okay.
- 35:48Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 35:49Speaker 15: I hate to hijack, but the very first movie, the two.
- 35:54Speaker 12: The two astronauts. The one guy is like, hey, come on,
- 35:58Speaker 12: sit in this thing. The creature is moving. It's okay,
- 36:01Speaker 12: sit on it. And he actually pulls out.
- 36:03Speaker 8: Like a point and click camera.
- 36:06Speaker 15: You're astronauts. Couldn't it at least be a little bigger? No,
- 36:09Speaker 15: it was pretty huge.
- 36:10Speaker 2: That was my thing. It was a point and click
- 36:12Speaker 2: camera from 1969.
- 36:12Speaker 8: In 1990, I had a Walkman that was five times
- 36:15Speaker 8: that size.
- 36:24Speaker 9: Oh, yeah.
- 36:25Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 36:25Speaker 8: It seems like that camera should have been a little
- 36:27Speaker 8: fancier if we were in the future. Assuming we weren't
- 36:31Speaker 8: actually in 1985. But that was, to me, looking at
- 36:35Speaker 8: the cast, that was almost the prerequisite for whatever this
- 36:38Speaker 8: space program at work is.
- 36:39Speaker 6: You've got to have a lot of hair.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 36:42Speaker 8: Not even like mullets or big or fat. Just like
- 36:44Speaker 8: everybody just had all kinds of hair.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Well, how....
- 36:50Speaker 1: You know, Diane Salinger was... attractive in Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
- 36:55Speaker 6: That's what I was going to get to.
- 36:57Speaker 2: I mean, you know, you were like, oh, she's this French,
- 37:00Speaker 2: you know... Not.
- 37:01Speaker 15: To mention he had a kick-ass bike.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Well, yeah.
- 37:05Speaker 8: And there were giant dinosaurs in her.
- 37:07Speaker 2: She was this... Don't even get me started.
- 37:13Speaker 1: She was about as unappetizing as you could get.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Yeah, kind of. And she had a mullet.
- 37:21Speaker 12: That first sex scene, I think, was probably the most boring.
- 37:26Speaker 15: Like, honestly.
- 37:28Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 37:30Speaker 6: Yeah, it got to her. I dozed off.
- 37:33Speaker 8: We get to Bryce.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Bryce.
- 37:35Speaker 6: I was just like.
- 37:36Speaker 2: With the only one with a gun. That was my
- 37:38Speaker 2: same response was just like, hey, she looks kind.
- 37:41Speaker 8: Of, oh, my God, is that Simone? So, yeah, then
- 37:46Speaker 8: like the whole time. And it's weird because this is
- 37:49Speaker 8: the same year. Like, this isn't even her before and
- 37:53Speaker 8: her weird early days.
- 37:54Speaker 6: No, this is the same year she was Simone.
- 37:57Speaker 2: This is 20 years before.
- 37:58Speaker 6: I'm like, how could she be so, like, good and
- 38:01Speaker 6: at least.
- 38:01Speaker 8: Entertaining in Pee Wee and, like, so horrible in this?
- 38:06Speaker 2: In the same span of time.
- 38:07Speaker 15: The power of a good director.
- 38:09Speaker 12: It is.
- 38:10Speaker 6: It obviously is.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Apparently, yeah. And a budget. Yeah. This had no budget.
- 38:14Speaker 9: It's probably better if you know you're going to get
- 38:16Speaker 9: a pretty sizable paycheck. But Pee Wee was.
- 38:18Speaker 8: Still pretty minimal budget.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 38:21Speaker 15: I'm sure it was like one of his first movies.
- 38:23Speaker 6: But Pee Wee's a pretty minimal budget, really.
- 38:25Speaker 8: I mean, the most they spent was for his house
- 38:28Speaker 8: and his toy.
- 38:29Speaker 1: But this had maybe $ 30 of budget.
- 38:32Speaker 15: No, there was a little more.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Really?
- 38:34Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 38:35Speaker 3: $ 34.
- 38:35Speaker 2: 98.
- 38:36Speaker 1: The same room was the computer room as the engineering room.
- 38:42Speaker 2: The ships were the same ship.
- 38:44Speaker 15: What the hell are you saying? They did rent a
- 38:45Speaker 15: couple of the leftovers from Alien.
- 38:47Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure.
- 38:48Speaker 1: And the ball on the front of the ship, didn't
- 38:51Speaker 1: that look like the Death Star?
- 38:53Speaker 2: I don't know if anybody knows. No, yeah.
- 38:55Speaker 4: Totally.
- 38:56Speaker 15: I was watching and I'm just like, why did their escape.
- 38:59Speaker 12: Pods Why does it look like the Death Star?
- 39:02Speaker 6: Because Star Wars was already out and you can steal
- 39:05Speaker 6: stuff from it.
- 39:05Speaker 13: I don't think.
- 39:06Speaker 11: Anybody even wrote any dialogue. I think they just told
- 39:09Speaker 11: them the situation and said, say stuff.
- 39:13Speaker 6: What was up with the guy sleeping in the window?
- 39:17Speaker 6: He was reminiscing about home in Michigan or where was
- 39:21Speaker 6: he from?
- 39:21Speaker 14: I don't remember.
- 39:23Speaker 2: It didn't matter.
- 39:23Speaker 8: It doesn't matter.
- 39:25Speaker 15: They were all very forgettable.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Hi. I guess you didn't expect to see me again.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Where the hell have you been?
- 39:31Speaker 8: I'm on board.
- 39:32Speaker 2: The German ship.
- 39:33Speaker 7: Are you alright?
- 39:35Speaker 8: I'm fine.
- 39:36Speaker 2: I'm okay. I'm better than okay.
- 39:39Speaker 6: Sorry I didn't tell anyone where I was going, but
- 39:41Speaker 6: I had a feeling you might not let me try to.
- 39:42Speaker 19: Make it here.
- 39:44Speaker 2: You got that right.
- 39:45Speaker 6: How's your air supply holding up?
- 39:46Speaker 8: We're almost out.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Well, don't worry.
- 39:50Speaker 4: There's plenty over here.
- 39:51Speaker 11: What was weird was the alien could latch onto somebody's
- 39:55Speaker 11: head and work them like a puppet.
- 39:59Speaker 16: And that was the most.
- 40:01Speaker 22: Convincing acting in the movie was when the guy had.
- 40:05Speaker 6: The creature and all of a sudden he kind of
- 40:10Speaker 6: woke him up.
- 40:10Speaker 11: He's like, hey, yeah, everything's cool over here.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Everything's fine. He's like, how come.
- 40:15Speaker 18: There are no believable moments Until this space creature that
- 40:21Speaker 18: apparently studied with Sanford Meisner or something latches onto your
- 40:26Speaker 18: brain and starts to activate you.
- 40:28Speaker 15: It's because the creature feeds off of bad acting.
- 40:30Speaker 2: I guess.
- 40:31Speaker 15: Yeah, did you miss that in this conversation?
- 40:34Speaker 8: Well, yeah, they got to that part and I was
- 40:36Speaker 8: just like, isn't this just the brain slugs from Futurama? Yeah.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Like, are they making fun of this movie with that?
- 40:41Speaker 2: It might be.
- 40:42Speaker 8: That's my favorite, you know, little side plot that they threw.
- 40:46Speaker 6: In the middle of Futurama, which is pretty damn entertaining anyway.
- 40:49Speaker 6: But I always liked the brain slug. Which is pretty
- 40:52Speaker 6: much what this is.
- 40:53Speaker 8: Like, you don't even get a creature until most of
- 40:56Speaker 8: the movie is done.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I didn't get the mechanics of the creature. Was the
- 41:00Speaker 1: creature something else that was being taken control of?
- 41:04Speaker 2: Because he said, what does.
- 41:05Speaker 15: It was someone's collection of life.
- 41:07Speaker 19: Right.
- 41:08Speaker 2: So there were many creatures, right?
- 41:10Speaker 8: Yeah, so the brain slug creatures aren't the same as that.
- 41:13Speaker 8: It's not like it is the total alien ripoff. Like,
- 41:16Speaker 8: they're not mini versions of... Then become that one? Again,
- 41:21Speaker 8: they're kind of working with both of them. It's like
- 41:22Speaker 8: they've got little creatures that attach themselves to you, like Alien.
- 41:26Speaker 2: There's a big one that looks way too much like
- 41:28Speaker 2: the alien at the end. There's lots of cobwebs everywhere
- 41:33Speaker 2: for some reason. And thunderstorms in space.
- 41:36Speaker 8: A lot of thunderstorms.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Down in a really deep hole.
- 41:40Speaker 12: At that point, though, I really thought to myself, this
- 41:42Speaker 12: is just like that episode of Invader Zim with the
- 41:44Speaker 12: Snatchers where they keep splicing them with duct tape.
- 41:48Speaker 15: Remember the little guy? I've been spliced so many times,
- 41:51Speaker 15: I don't even remember what I am.
- 41:53Speaker 8: That was so much better than this movie.
- 41:58Speaker 6: Well, Invader Zim is worlds better than this movie.
- 42:02Speaker 8: Any episode.
- 42:03Speaker 15: By the way, later on, I bought the DVD that
- 42:07Speaker 15: I bought off of.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Legally. Yeah, legally.
- 42:10Speaker 6: Totally clearing yourself.
- 42:12Speaker 15: Piracy is bad. eBay defrauded me.
- 42:15Speaker 2: I had no idea.
- 42:16Speaker 6: Yeah, you thought it was legally released.
- 42:18Speaker 2: I totally did.
- 42:19Speaker 6: Okay, you've cleared that up now.
- 42:22Speaker 2: For the record, please don't come and get me.
- 42:25Speaker 4: Well, Mr.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Hoffner, how did you get aboard?
- 42:28Speaker 16: We hadn't noticed.
- 42:29Speaker 23: If your spaceship was missing, I'd come in from the back.
- 42:33Speaker 23: Whose clever idea was it anyway to.
- 42:35Speaker 8: to land on the surface.
- 42:37Speaker 21: Listen, let's not waste time talking to this guy.
- 42:38Speaker 8: Let's throw him out and.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Save the air.
- 42:41Speaker 23: Now, we all want the same thing, no? We want
- 42:47Speaker 23: to take off this moon alive.
- 42:50Speaker 2: Yes?
- 42:53Speaker 23: So I can help.
- 42:55Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 42:56Speaker 4: How's that?
- 43:00Speaker 23: I know something you don't. I've seen what it is
- 43:06Speaker 23: you are up against, and I have the way to
- 43:09Speaker 23: destroy it.
- 43:10Speaker 6: So, yeah.
- 43:13Speaker 8: I mean, this was one of those looking again at
- 43:15Speaker 8: the box for years and hearing about it for years,
- 43:18Speaker 8: I assumed that this was a Klaus Kinski feature.
- 43:23Speaker 6: Like, this was his movie.
- 43:25Speaker 8: And he was in it for... He's in space, and he's, like,
- 43:27Speaker 8: leading the team and fighting the creature, and he had, like,
- 43:31Speaker 8: two days' work, tops.
- 43:32Speaker 15: I had issues with the fact that he was a Nazi.
- 43:37Speaker 6: Do we assume that he was a Nazi?
- 43:40Speaker 15: No, he was in the army and he was captured.
- 43:43Speaker 15: He was a captured Nazi.
- 43:46Speaker 2: In space? No, he really was.
- 43:49Speaker 6: He was a real Nazi.
- 43:50Speaker 2: He claims he gave himself up.
- 43:53Speaker 11: He surrendered. But, you know, his biography is like a
- 43:57Speaker 11: bunch of stories.
- 43:59Speaker 9: Isn't there a movie about Nazis in space?
- 44:01Speaker 8: Yeah, it finally got made. That one we were gunning for.
- 44:06Speaker 8: They were trying to get funding. I think it's actually
- 44:08Speaker 8: out now. It's just started making the scene.
- 44:11Speaker 15: Is this a movie meltdown production?
- 44:14Speaker 6: Do we have funding for a movie? I will certainly
- 44:16Speaker 6: make a movie.
- 44:17Speaker 8: If somebody wants to get that money rolling, I have
- 44:20Speaker 8: ridiculous ideas.
- 44:21Speaker 2: It'll turn out horrible.
- 44:22Speaker 11: I had an idea for a movie we could do.
- 44:25Speaker 11: I sort of cast it and put it together.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay.
- 44:30Speaker 6: Again, as long as the funding comes in, I am
- 44:33Speaker 6: all for this.
- 44:34Speaker 16: Well, there's no money.
- 44:35Speaker 8: That's the problem.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Then we're making creatures. I think we might.
- 44:38Speaker 9: Be able to borrow a camera from school.
- 44:41Speaker 8: I have access to a legit camera. I have, like,
- 44:44Speaker 8: not a very legit camera, but we could make it anyway.
- 44:48Speaker 2: It's a pretty high-end camera. You can make a.
- 44:50Speaker 6: You can make a movie.
- 44:53Speaker 12: As long as you write it in, the reason why
- 44:55Speaker 12: it's been filmed on an iPhone, I think it is
- 44:58Speaker 12: totally permissible to make a movie entirely filmed on iPhones
- 45:02Speaker 12: or droids.
- 45:03Speaker 6: Chronicle.
- 45:06Speaker 11: I think for me, the apotheosis of the badness of
- 45:11Speaker 11: this movie, if you want to get to the core,
- 45:14Speaker 11: there is the point, which is sort of the peak,
- 45:17Speaker 11: when you realize that this guy is dead and the
- 45:20Speaker 11: alien is controlling him, and suddenly he seems more alive,
- 45:24Speaker 11: more credible as a guy. They say, well, now he
- 45:28Speaker 11: doesn't seem all that broken up about her dying. But yeah,
- 45:31Speaker 11: but at least he seems like a human being now.
- 45:34Speaker 2: And he says, I want to go home.
- 45:36Speaker 18: Hey, guys, let's get out of here. Yeah, suddenly he
- 45:39Speaker 18: seems sort of believable.
- 45:41Speaker 11: But after that, I think it's the plan they hatch
- 45:45Speaker 11: to lure.
- 45:46Speaker 8: the alien out of the room with the girl.
- 45:49Speaker 16: I forget which girl is it.
- 45:51Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
- 45:52Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 45:53Speaker 6: The blonde girl from American dad.
- 45:54Speaker 8: Okay.
- 45:55Speaker 16: So it's yeah.
- 45:56Speaker 11: The blonde girl from American dad is in the room
- 45:59Speaker 11: with the creature. They can't go in there and they.
- 46:02Speaker 8: Hatch a plan.
- 46:03Speaker 11: And, and as they do it, you know, they're kind of.
- 46:05Speaker 16: Taking their time.
- 46:07Speaker 17: Right.
- 46:07Speaker 2: You know, they're like, no, wait a minute.
- 46:10Speaker 16: I've got an idea.
- 46:11Speaker 11: There's gotta be another way into that room.
- 46:14Speaker 8: I'll go around.
- 46:15Speaker 16: And look at me, I'm Ferris Bueller's dad.
- 46:17Speaker 11: I mean, I look like I might go jogging on
- 46:23Speaker 11: my way around to find a door. So he's going around,
- 46:27Speaker 11: he's going to lure the.
- 46:29Speaker 2: And it's just the quality.
- 46:32Speaker 22: the intensity that is not there right there's no it's
- 46:35Speaker 22: just amazing at all yeah it's just like what are
- 46:39Speaker 22: we gonna do next in this movie is the feeling
- 46:42Speaker 22: you get i've.
- 46:43Speaker 8: Got way bigger holes in the plot before we even
- 46:46Speaker 8: get to the wrap-up there like unless i missed the
- 46:50Speaker 8: scene was there like as they collapse into the dirt
- 46:53Speaker 8: what the hell was that about but he told him
- 46:56Speaker 8: not to park there but whatever it So, as they
- 46:59Speaker 8: collapse in, like, did they damage things? They never really mention, like,
- 47:03Speaker 8: they say, oh, we gotta do this, or we gotta see,
- 47:05Speaker 8: but they didn't say, like, specifically, hey, we messed up this,
- 47:08Speaker 8: we lost this, or whatever. So then as they get
- 47:11Speaker 8: a little further in, and they're like, oh, we don't
- 47:13Speaker 8: have enough oxygen!
- 47:15Speaker 2: Why not?
- 47:16Speaker 6: You were flying to Jupiter and you had to get home.
- 47:20Speaker 8: If you're almost out of oxygen and you're at Jupiter,
- 47:23Speaker 8: how the fuck were you going to get home?
- 47:25Speaker 1: I took the doors wide open in space.
- 47:30Speaker 2: They're like, hey, let's go out here.
- 47:31Speaker 18: We've got a garage door opener.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Every door, every time it opens or closes, sounds like
- 47:39Speaker 1: a laser gun from Star Wars.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Did you pay attention? It's like... Every door.
- 47:44Speaker 6: In their defense, it was the 1980s and people weren't
- 47:47Speaker 6: recycling yet.
- 47:49Speaker 9: I mean, Laser Blaze probably has like... more high-tech scenery.
- 47:56Speaker 8: The one behind him was a pegboard, I'm pretty sure.
- 47:58Speaker 8: It was just a piece of pegboard.
- 48:00Speaker 13: It was painted gray, wasn't it? I was like, that's
- 48:03Speaker 13: a pegboard. It was space pegboard. It had dryer vent
- 48:07Speaker 13: tubing going across the background of one. I was like,
- 48:10Speaker 13: that's shiny dryer vent tubing.
- 48:12Speaker 8: Space dryer vent tubing.
- 48:15Speaker 2: I'm like, why'd you suck on that? That's probably got
- 48:17Speaker 2: some oxygen in it. Yeah, it's like getting poor.
- 48:20Speaker 8: They had no.
- 48:22Speaker 6: They had no oxygen. And then a couple scenes later,
- 48:25Speaker 6: they're like, oh, we're almost out of power.
- 48:28Speaker 8: They've got to get over to the German ship, which
- 48:29Speaker 8: for some reason has loads of oxygen and power. But
- 48:32Speaker 8: it's been there forever.
- 48:33Speaker 6: I'm like, why are you guys such idiots? The West
- 48:37Speaker 6: Germans are way smarter than you.
- 48:40Speaker 8: I don't know. I was just like, to me, unless
- 48:43Speaker 8: they damaged it or something, they should have explained a reason,
- 48:47Speaker 8: or they're just idiots for not packing enough when they left.
- 48:50Speaker 11: It just seemed to me like the reason they didn't
- 48:52Speaker 11: explain what happened when they crashed is because the people
- 48:56Speaker 11: making the movie hadn't decided yet where this was going.
- 49:01Speaker 11: It's like, we'll get to that when we film it.
- 49:04Speaker 11: The actors are probably going, so what happened when the
- 49:07Speaker 11: ship crashed?
- 49:08Speaker 8: Is that.
- 49:10Speaker 1: We're on a need-to-know basis.
- 49:12Speaker 2: Bring that up later.
- 49:13Speaker 8: After lunch.
- 49:14Speaker 1: There's another scene missing. When Klaus Kinski shows up and
- 49:19Speaker 1: he rapes Simone.
- 49:22Speaker 2: He just touched her inappropriately. Yeah, but it's borderline rape.
- 49:28Speaker 2: It jumps. It doesn't just kind of transition. It jumps
- 49:30Speaker 2: to the scene where they're all in, like, the... Hanging around.
- 49:33Speaker 20: Hanging around.
- 49:34Speaker 1: And he's explaining things like he's just one of the guys.
- 49:37Speaker 9: Who does he think he is? Chris Brown?
- 49:40Speaker 16: Exactly.
- 49:41Speaker 2: But he has a Grammy, so... Yeah, that makes it okay. But, yeah,
- 49:45Speaker 2: he just.
- 49:45Speaker 6: How come they never gave Claus a Grammy?
- 49:48Speaker 2: You know, where did you come from?
- 49:49Speaker 16: No, the door was open.
- 49:51Speaker 13: Shut up.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Again, why aren't the damn doors open?
- 49:55Speaker 12: I thought I fell asleep in the middle of it.
- 49:57Speaker 12: I missed part of it. I stopped and maybe I
- 50:00Speaker 12: just blinked.
- 50:01Speaker 2: What? It's that fast. And he says the door was
- 50:04Speaker 2: wide open in the back. But you have no air.
- 50:07Speaker 2: You left the door open. That's where all the oxygen went.
- 50:10Speaker 2: You left the garage door open on the ship.
- 50:13Speaker 6: At least partially in space.
- 50:15Speaker 2: Even if it's not a total vacuum.
- 50:17Speaker 6: Wouldn't it be sucking things out the door or something?
- 50:22Speaker 2: I mean, sure.
- 50:23Speaker 15: I don't know how to say this.
- 50:26Speaker 12: I BDM'd this movie and I found the writer's name
- 50:29Speaker 12: and I clicked on it.
- 50:30Speaker 15: Only thing he's ever done.
- 50:31Speaker 12: And it was just like, this was your one big thought.
- 50:35Speaker 11: I shouldn't watch it all in one sitting. I watched
- 50:40Speaker 11: some of it one night and then it's like, oh,
- 50:42Speaker 11: I'll get back to this.
- 50:44Speaker 2: It's, uh, No, I rented this like in high school
- 50:49Speaker 2: or something. I don't remember. Don't you think it was awesome?
- 50:53Speaker 2: We turned it off.
- 50:54Speaker 8: That's bad.
- 50:54Speaker 6: It was that bad. You can't even entertain high school kids.
- 50:58Speaker 2: It was that bad. I think we got, yeah. And
- 51:01Speaker 2: there were boobs in it. Right.
- 51:02Speaker 9: What the hell?
- 51:03Speaker 1: But there were bloody boobs. Who wants to watch that?
- 51:05Speaker 2: No, that's hot.
- 51:07Speaker 6: Oh, maybe that's just me.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Anyway, but no, that was my other thing. There is
- 51:13Speaker 2: an answer to this question.
- 51:14Speaker 6: I was like, what is it with naked chicks in space?
- 51:16Speaker 6: It's because nerds write all this stuff.
- 51:18Speaker 15: How did they make it so boring?
- 51:20Speaker 8: But yeah, as soon as they got that, I was like,
- 51:22Speaker 8: is this around the same time as Life Force?
- 51:24Speaker 6: Yeah, it kind of was.
- 51:27Speaker 2: It's like, naked chicks in space, that's all we need,
- 51:29Speaker 2: and nerds get all excited.
- 51:31Speaker 11: Well, it is, especially when you're a teenager, because it's like,
- 51:34Speaker 11: how am I going to get this chick away from.
- 51:36Speaker 16: Her friends and family?
- 51:37Speaker 2: Get her out in space. Or I can talk her
- 51:39Speaker 2: into stuff.
- 51:41Speaker 15: We're going to launch her into space. We're going to
- 51:43Speaker 15: leave our garage.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Space is like a nice little plan.
- 51:48Speaker 8: We're almost out of oxygen.
- 51:50Speaker 2: We need to have sex.
- 51:52Speaker 15: And this is why Brian's lured you here.
- 51:56Speaker 9: I'm the only, like, female.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Like.
- 51:59Speaker 9: I said I was talking to him. I mean, but
- 52:03Speaker 9: I just... I don't remember it being that hard for
- 52:07Speaker 9: guys to, like, see boobs for girls in high school.
- 52:10Speaker 9: I mean, I don't... A few years younger than some people.
- 52:14Speaker 6: Yeah, by the 80s it was still pretty difficult.
- 52:16Speaker 9: Was it really that hard?
- 52:17Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 52:18Speaker 2: You didn't have the internet. There was no internet.
- 52:20Speaker 9: Well, I mean like real live boobs.
- 52:21Speaker 2: Oh, real live boobs?
- 52:22Speaker 9: It's not that hard to get a teenage girl to
- 52:24Speaker 9: take her shirt off.
- 52:25Speaker 2: I keep trying. Really? It's not happening. I hate to
- 52:28Speaker 2: tell you.
- 52:29Speaker 15: So, this is the next Marlena moment.
- 52:31Speaker 1: Oh, yes it is!
- 52:32Speaker 2: It is!
- 52:39Speaker 16: Wait, a moment of silence, please.
- 52:42Speaker 9: All right.
- 52:43Speaker 8: Do you want the intro?
- 52:44Speaker 2: Okay, yeah. All right.
- 52:46Speaker 8: And now it's time for a Marlena moment.
- 52:49Speaker 9: Speaking of teenager boobs, yesterday I had to take my
- 52:54Speaker 9: comforters and my duvets to the locker mat because they
- 52:56Speaker 9: don't fit in my apartment washing machine. This guy comes
- 53:00Speaker 9: up to me, who I recognized and was trying to avoid.
- 53:03Speaker 9: He used to be in a band with some douche
- 53:05Speaker 9: that I work with. And he's like, excuse me, how
- 53:10Speaker 9: long does it take this washer to run a cycle?
- 53:12Speaker 9: And I'm like, I don't fucking know. And he's like,
- 53:16Speaker 9: you look really familiar. And I was like, did you
- 53:19Speaker 9: work at the animal hospital? I was like, no. But
- 53:24Speaker 9: this guy got arrested for having child pornography on his computer.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Nice.
- 53:31Speaker 9: And his wife kicked him out of the house. And
- 53:34Speaker 9: he lives in this giant bread truck. Which is just like.
- 53:37Speaker 2: That's really creepy.
- 53:38Speaker 16: I'm sorry, what? He lives in a giant bread truck?
- 53:43Speaker 2: He lives in a giant bread truck. Not a normal
- 53:44Speaker 2: sized bread truck. He lives in a giant bread truck.
- 53:46Speaker 12: Do you ever look up people you know on the
- 53:49Speaker 12: sex offender registry?
- 53:50Speaker 15: I don't know.
- 53:52Speaker 16: So he's inbred.
- 53:53Speaker 8: Go on.
- 53:54Speaker 9: He's inbred.
- 53:55Speaker 2: He's inbred, yeah.
- 53:56Speaker 9: He's in the bread.
- 53:57Speaker 6: Oh, God.
- 54:00Speaker 9: But I just think, like, if you're going to be
- 54:02Speaker 9: a sex offender, like, don't add to your, like, stigma.
- 54:06Speaker 9: You know, it's just like.
- 54:07Speaker 2: Don't ask people how long I cycle.
- 54:10Speaker 9: No, I just live in the bread truck.
- 54:11Speaker 2: I know.
- 54:12Speaker 16: I live in a giant bread truck.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:15Speaker 9: But the day before, my best friend has to ride
- 54:19Speaker 9: the bus to come to work. And this creepy guy
- 54:21Speaker 9: got on the bus, and he turned around, and he goes, hi,
- 54:24Speaker 9: how are you? And she's like, I'm good. He's like,
- 54:28Speaker 9: how old are you? She goes, I'm pushing 30. He goes, oh,
- 54:31Speaker 9: never mind.
- 54:34Speaker 12: Wow.
- 54:34Speaker 9: And she just was like, ha, ha, ha. This guy,
- 54:38Speaker 9: she said he was probably in his mid-50s to late-50s.
- 54:43Speaker 2: That's some creepy shit.
- 54:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:45Speaker 2: He's inbred, though.
- 54:46Speaker 8: You want to hear something else that's creepy about teens and.
- 54:49Speaker 9: That was a weak highlight of my last story.
- 54:52Speaker 2: No, it's creepy, but it was worth it for the
- 54:54Speaker 2: inbred thing, right?
- 54:55Speaker 16: I was hearing it from some.
- 54:59Speaker 11: Older lady who dates young guys. She has this theory
- 55:04Speaker 11: that all the guys who have grown up with porn,
- 55:07Speaker 11: or it's not a theory, it's based on her, I
- 55:09Speaker 11: guess it's a theory based on her experience, all these
- 55:12Speaker 11: guys have grown up now and they can all see porn.
- 55:16Speaker 8: And they do.
- 55:17Speaker 11: And they're really, really bad at sex because they're not
- 55:22Speaker 11: bad the way like, oh, guys of my generation were
- 55:26Speaker 11: because we didn't know anything. They're bad because they think
- 55:30Speaker 11: they do and they're wrong.
- 55:31Speaker 14: Right.
- 55:32Speaker 11: Which is a lot worse because, you know, they're not
- 55:36Speaker 11: learning as they go.
- 55:38Speaker 2: Right. They're not teachable. They watch porn. They think they
- 55:43Speaker 2: know what they're doing. Right.
- 55:45Speaker 16: And they're horrible at it.
- 55:46Speaker 6: Wait, I'm going to try this one thing I saw.
- 55:49Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 55:50Speaker 11: And I just, for a moment when I read, I
- 55:54Speaker 11: don't know, she wrote something about it.
- 55:56Speaker 16: I read it.
- 55:56Speaker 11: I was just overwhelmed by the sadness. It's just I
- 56:01Speaker 11: had to walk it off. I didn't want to read
- 56:05Speaker 11: any news headlines for the rest of the day. It's
- 56:07Speaker 11: like that's my dose of sad reality for the day.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Is that like George and the counterclockwise swirl?
- 56:16Speaker 8: I guess, yeah. Is it a swirl?
- 56:21Speaker 16: The whole point is to swirl.
- 56:23Speaker 2: You can't be more than six inches different in height.
- 56:27Speaker 6: You could seriously hurt someone.
- 56:30Speaker 2: All right, creature. Creature. You know, there were a lot of....
- 56:38Speaker 1: Boredom for me for a sci-fi adventure yeah i i
- 56:41Speaker 1: mean that's the thing i like cheesy low budget movies but.
- 56:45Speaker 8: Even then like as much as i like like the
- 56:48Speaker 8: bad ones that i've watched a lot of crap similar
- 56:51Speaker 8: to this.
- 56:51Speaker 6: On cable late at night you know over the years i'm.
- 56:54Speaker 8: Just like yeah this looks kind of fun but yeah
- 56:58Speaker 8: i was still.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Kind of let down by it yeah.
- 57:01Speaker 6: I didn't think that was possible but in Yeah, it
- 57:05Speaker 6: was pretty bleak.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Speaking of porn, it almost was like it was set
- 57:09Speaker 1: up to be a porn.
- 57:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 57:12Speaker 2: It wasn't.
- 57:12Speaker 6: Well, even the love scene, they cop out on it.
- 57:16Speaker 8: That first point, I'm like, oh, okay, we got one
- 57:18Speaker 8: of these kind of movies. They're going to work it
- 57:19Speaker 8: in there.
- 57:20Speaker 6: And then they cut before you even get to nudity there.
- 57:22Speaker 2: So I was like, well, what are you doing? Now
- 57:25Speaker 2: we're just watching this.
- 57:25Speaker 6: For the story?
- 57:28Speaker 8: Something's gone horribly wrong.
- 57:30Speaker 2: Oh, and then it gets.
- 57:32Speaker 11: to the end and there's no spoiler alert because it's
- 57:35Speaker 11: not fucking possible to spoil this movie but it's just
- 57:40Speaker 11: so casual and TV size and it's like so where
- 57:44Speaker 11: were you you were gone for hours I got lost.
- 57:55Speaker 2: Oh man it's all.
- 57:57Speaker 8: Like that I mean yeah well Before they even get
- 58:02Speaker 8: to that, there's the movie line. I was like, wait,
- 58:06Speaker 8: did she just reference the thing? I'm pretty sure that's
- 58:10Speaker 8: the movie. She's like, I saw this movie and I
- 58:12Speaker 8: was like, okay, okay, wait a minute.
- 58:14Speaker 2: I was like, unless you're the kind.
- 58:16Speaker 6: Of movie that sort of takes place in.
- 58:18Speaker 8: A meta world, you know, if you're fucking Scream, that's cool,
- 58:21Speaker 8: you know? But like, in this very serious... disconnected from
- 58:26Speaker 8: the world as we know it, you can't all of
- 58:29Speaker 8: a sudden go, I saw this movie once, and here's
- 58:31Speaker 8: what they did. I was like, it's one way or
- 58:33Speaker 8: the other. It's like you can't switch up and just
- 58:36Speaker 8: throw that one line in in the middle.
- 58:38Speaker 2: Of a regular.
- 58:40Speaker 11: Plot that's why I'm saying they didn't write dialogue for
- 58:44Speaker 11: this movie people just had to make something up moment
- 58:47Speaker 11: to moment.
- 58:48Speaker 8: I was just like that's like to me I was
- 58:50Speaker 8: like that's just lazy like they were just like well we.
- 58:52Speaker 6: Don't want to come up with our own way to
- 58:54Speaker 6: round this out.
- 58:54Speaker 8: So let's just have her reference the way they did
- 58:57Speaker 8: it in another much better movie I actually agree that's.
- 59:00Speaker 9: The way Bollywood movies work there's almost like no script
- 59:03Speaker 9: they just kind of ad-lib. They're just like, whatever. We're
- 59:06Speaker 9: doing this.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Bravo.
- 59:09Speaker 11: Well, this was a Bollywood movie, then.
- 59:11Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 59:11Speaker 17: You know, I always.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Speaking of Bollywood, I don't think I've ever brought it
- 59:14Speaker 1: up on the show. I always thought that Gonzo was
- 59:18Speaker 1: total shit in the Muppet movie.
- 59:20Speaker 8: When they said.
- 59:21Speaker 2: What are you doing? He said, I've always wanted to
- 59:23Speaker 2: go to Bombay, India to become a movie star. And
- 59:26Speaker 2: they said, well, we're going to Hollywood. He goes, yeah,
- 59:28Speaker 2: if you want to do it the easy way.
- 59:33Speaker 6: I love gonzo so much i know.
- 59:35Speaker 1: And i thought it was just some they were just
- 59:37Speaker 1: goofing around but there was really some you know merit
- 59:41Speaker 1: to what he was saying and you know.
- 59:42Speaker 8: And maybe not so much at the time i doubt
- 59:46Speaker 8: the industry was near what it became by like the
- 59:49Speaker 8: 90s but apparently you know they still have i'm sure
- 59:51Speaker 8: they had it yeah you know movies.
- 59:54Speaker 6: There so it's funny that uh I forgot it.
- 59:58Speaker 9: Actually, I bought my niece Muppets in Space last week.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: Would have been great for her this.
- 1:00:05Speaker 13: Week.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: Muppets!
- 1:00:07Speaker 9: She didn't get it at first, but then she just like,
- 1:00:09Speaker 9: there's funny sounds.
- 1:00:12Speaker 16: And then when Klaus Kemski came out, I was.
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: Really confused by that.
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: For that extended cameo. I was still like the whole time.
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: I was just like, really? Is he gone now?
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: I was like, what the fuck? When he was eating,
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: I wonder, I was like, is that his part of
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: his pay for this? Like he got the craft services.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: As much as you can cram in during this scene,
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: you're good.
- 1:00:33Speaker 8: Thanks for coming in, Klaus.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: It was, uh.
- 1:00:41Speaker 8: And I like he's only got, like, two scenes, and
- 1:00:43Speaker 8: yet they really go out of their way to make
- 1:00:44Speaker 8: him a perv.
- 1:00:45Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: Like, even when they go outside, he grabs their ass.
- 1:00:48Speaker 8: Right. I was just like, what the hell is that?
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: Like, how does any of this factor in?
- 1:00:53Speaker 16: Yeah, that wasn't scripted either.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 1:00:56Speaker 16: Cross-improvising.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: He's just like, ah, that Simone's a hot piece of ass.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: I thought none of that made sense.
- 1:01:03Speaker 8: No, not at all.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: It was just creepy for no reason.
- 1:01:07Speaker 8: And I swear, like, later on, when you get to
- 1:01:09Speaker 8: him in the makeup, I guess we'll call it, whatever
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: that look is later, I swear there's.
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: One shot, I don't think it was even him.
- 1:01:16Speaker 8: It looked like it was just a random extra with
- 1:01:19Speaker 8: the same makeup on.
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: And I was just like, he wasn't even there that day.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: The craft services table wasn't there. He was like, fuck.
- 1:01:27Speaker 8: This, I'm out of here.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: If I don't get to eat a sandwich, I'm not coming.
- 1:01:30Speaker 8: That's right.
- 1:01:32Speaker 9: Someone's trying to contact us.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Well, how come I'm not hearing anything? Well, because it's
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: coming in on a European-assigned phase.
- 1:01:38Speaker 9: Hold on a second, and I'll convert us.
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: So anyway, we mentioned the recycled-looking things in this. Like
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: he was talking about they thought they stole stuff from Alien.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: No, actually Forbidden Planet.
- 1:01:51Speaker 8: If you look up that info on it, the director
- 1:01:54Speaker 8: is like a huge Forbidden Planet fan.
- 1:01:56Speaker 6: Has tons of props and stuff he bought over the years.
- 1:01:59Speaker 8: And threw them into this movie.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:02:01Speaker 8: And I was like, well, see, again, I think this
- 1:02:04Speaker 8: is part of the problem. I think I'm so much
- 1:02:07Speaker 8: more forgiving with Forbidden Planet. And, you know, it's not
- 1:02:10Speaker 8: like it's a masterpiece, but it's pretty damn good. You know,
- 1:02:14Speaker 8: it's pretty well put together. Again, it's a well-stolen script.
- 1:02:19Speaker 8: They scammed it from another writer.
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: And, you know, they.
- 1:02:24Speaker 8: Again, it's some cheesy acting. It's some silly special effects
- 1:02:27Speaker 8: here and there, but... It's still a pretty damn good movie.
- 1:02:30Speaker 8: And I don't know that I'm just more forgiving because
- 1:02:32Speaker 8: of its age.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: To me, it's always like that.
- 1:02:35Speaker 8: With the old cheesy sci-fi stuff we watch, it's like
- 1:02:38Speaker 8: the older ones I just kind of enjoy for their cheesiness.
- 1:02:42Speaker 8: It's something about by the time you hit the 80s
- 1:02:44Speaker 8: that you just don't buy it anymore. I don't know.
- 1:02:47Speaker 16: It's the 80s.
- 1:02:48Speaker 8: I didn't buy any of the 80s.
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: Or maybe it's that.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: It's just not believable. RoboCop still had a world that
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: was believable.
- 1:02:55Speaker 16: No, I don't mean movies.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: I mean the 80s.
- 1:02:58Speaker 8: The 80s.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: You still buy the 80s.
- 1:02:59Speaker 11: There are a lot of 80s movies you can believe.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: I was thinking maybe it's that post-Star Wars thing, too.
- 1:03:05Speaker 8: It's like we hit that where all of a sudden
- 1:03:07Speaker 8: you took this big space opera thing and you kind
- 1:03:10Speaker 8: of found a way to do both. I mean, it's
- 1:03:12Speaker 8: sort of over the top and silly, but at the
- 1:03:14Speaker 8: same time, they play it pretty straight.
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: It's got a decent budget.
- 1:03:16Speaker 8: It sort of delivers on all those and finds that
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: balance that you watch this kind of stuff after that
- 1:03:22Speaker 8: and you're just like, well.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: This is just lame. I don't know.
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: I'm not sure what the difference is between them.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: I think that there is a lot that is stolen
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: from Alien.
- 1:03:32Speaker 8: Oh, definitely.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Because you can see them thinking, okay, if we make
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: the corridors dark, if we make the exterior dark, if
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: we just hide what we're showing you, we can get.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: By on cheap. But that's not the case.
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: Yeah, it's funny how.
- 1:03:51Speaker 8: Much of a difference you could tell, and a lot
- 1:03:52Speaker 8: of that is budget and having the budget to afford
- 1:03:55Speaker 8: a real cinematographer.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Because we talked about that when we were.
- 1:03:58Speaker 8: Talking about Aliens, and then we went back and Lucy
- 1:04:01Speaker 8: had just watched Alien, and she was talking about the
- 1:04:03Speaker 8: whole cinematography.
- 1:04:05Speaker 6: Of it and the light and dark.
- 1:04:07Speaker 8: You know, everything is dark, but they find a way
- 1:04:09Speaker 8: to light it so that you can see everything. Or
- 1:04:12Speaker 8: they make the weird water and chains and all that
- 1:04:15Speaker 8: stuff creepy and.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: Doesn't look cheesy anymore.
- 1:04:18Speaker 8: You know, and it's not that different than what they're
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: trying to do here, but it just goes horribly wrong here.
- 1:04:23Speaker 11: Well, that's why the one actress is attractive in one
- 1:04:26Speaker 11: project and then unattractive in the.
- 1:04:29Speaker 8: Other is because you have to be able to photograph people.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right.
- 1:04:33Speaker 8: And not give her that hair.
- 1:04:34Speaker 11: Yeah, and that's, you know, an actor is consciously relying
- 1:04:39Speaker 11: on people to make them look good.
- 1:04:41Speaker 16: And there are people who know how to do it.
- 1:04:43Speaker 8: I mean, they really do.
- 1:04:45Speaker 9: I mean, you know, like Amy Sedaris said, lighting, it's
- 1:04:48Speaker 9: the difference between lady, can I buy you a drink,
- 1:04:50Speaker 9: or lady, can I call you a cab?
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Yes, it is.
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:04:54Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know.
- 1:04:57Speaker 8: We've gotten to sort of the end of this one.
- 1:05:00Speaker 8: So there's just, I mean, you were mentioning the door noises.
- 1:05:04Speaker 8: So many of the other noises, like the lightning sounded
- 1:05:07Speaker 8: like gunshots.
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:05:09Speaker 12: Yes.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: What the hell?
- 1:05:10Speaker 8: Like normal guns, not like space laser guns. Like gang
- 1:05:14Speaker 8: drive-bys are going by across the other side of this planet.
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: Well, that's on Titan.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: I mean, it sounds a little bit different. I guess.
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: I think so.
- 1:05:22Speaker 8: And then, well, all of them, because then you get
- 1:05:24Speaker 8: that scene of the monster coming out of the hallway,
- 1:05:26Speaker 8: and it's like creaky old house noises. I'm like, why
- 1:05:28Speaker 8: is this monster not making monster noises?
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: He's just making creaky noises. Is it his.
- 1:05:35Speaker 9: College humor skitters at a Saturday Night Live skit where
- 1:05:38Speaker 9: it's like, in a world where guns don't sound like guns.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: Probably.
- 1:05:43Speaker 9: I think it's college humor.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: Probably college humor.
- 1:05:46Speaker 8: I don't know. I thought that was all a mess,
- 1:05:47Speaker 8: and then we get to, you were talking about Fred
- 1:05:50Speaker 8: the hallway. Yeah. What? So once they had this convoluted
- 1:05:54Speaker 8: plan that they made up on the spot, and we're
- 1:05:55Speaker 8: very casual about.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: So they get them in this hallway. They didn't rig anything.
- 1:06:00Speaker 6: They didn't do anything extra.
- 1:06:02Speaker 8: There's just somewhere a button that fires lightning down this hallway.
- 1:06:05Speaker 8: Is that what?
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: That's just on the console. It's in the garage.
- 1:06:10Speaker 8: We'll hit the blue lightning button, and there you go.
- 1:06:13Speaker 6: It takes care of all your problems.
- 1:06:16Speaker 8: Once again, just like nothing is plotted or spelled out
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: as to why it does anything.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: It's just conveniently, here's the next part of this plot.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: Well, the one part where she's trying to fix something
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: that they had to go across everywhere to get.
- 1:06:29Speaker 16: Who's the waffle iron?
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: She just takes a screwdriver and jams it in a
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: hole about five times.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: And you're like, is this fixing anything? She kind of
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: jams it and turns it.
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: She's an engineer, damn it. Don't question her.
- 1:06:43Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: And, like, she says something about circuits. Oh, okay, so
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: we'll just believe you.
- 1:06:48Speaker 16: Oh, yeah, we need to stab the circuits.
- 1:06:50Speaker 6: Once you get technical and start talking circuits, I mean, shit.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:06:54Speaker 9: I like that these people are so far away from
- 1:06:56Speaker 9: where the actual Oscars are taking place. All they have
- 1:06:59Speaker 9: is snapshots.
- 1:07:00Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:07:00Speaker 9: The actors are actually close.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: They're about as close as we are. Oh, my gosh.
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: Who are sitting just feet away from the red carpet.
- 1:07:06Speaker 12: Right.
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: We are connected.
- 1:07:09Speaker 24: Yeah.
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: And not really even watching it, but Dancy's Babel Grounds West.
- 1:07:14Speaker 9: And I wonder why they have so many cue cards.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Like, are there things in those cue cards?
- 1:07:18Speaker 9: I don't know. They haven't looked at the cue cards once.
- 1:07:22Speaker 11: How many different tones of red are they going to
- 1:07:25Speaker 11: have going on here?
- 1:07:27Speaker 16: Oh, it's Busy Phillips.
- 1:07:29Speaker 14: Yes.
- 1:07:29Speaker 16: And Michelle Williams.
- 1:07:33Speaker 6: It's a reunion. The Dawson reunion.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: The later and even more sucky years.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Yes. That's after she was on Freaks and Geeks.
- 1:07:45Speaker 8: Yeah, what did Busy Phillips do lately?
- 1:07:50Speaker 6: She's on Cougar Town.
- 1:07:52Speaker 9: Is she?
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: Which is not as horrible a show as I expected, actually.
- 1:07:56Speaker 9: Both of those girls were blonde.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: What the hell is she? She looks like a velociraptor.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: What the fuck is that? I mean, she does, doesn't she?
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: I love how the girl on the left has no
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: ability to sit up straight.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: She's got spina bifida or something.
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: I love spina bifida.
- 1:08:21Speaker 8: Hey, come in, dearie.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: And no one in the world is watching this stream
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: except for us.
- 1:08:28Speaker 8: That's the best part.
- 1:08:30Speaker 11: It's like we're providing like a DVD commentary with something
- 1:08:35Speaker 11: nobody's watching.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: We are like the R.
- 1:08:37Speaker 9: Kelly's of the Oscars.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: So then, I open the closet. What I want to
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: know is have more people watched our stream of the
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: Oscars or have more people watched Creature? That would be the.
- 1:08:54Speaker 8: Oh, Lord.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Oh, shit.
- 1:08:56Speaker 8: Okay, so then it's do you fire blue lightning down
- 1:09:00Speaker 8: the hallway no so he gets real technical speaking of
- 1:09:04Speaker 8: technical and pokes it once it's dead it's dead Are
- 1:09:09Speaker 8: you a doctor or a scientist or what? I mean,
- 1:09:12Speaker 8: what was this technical reasoning for thinking it's dead?
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: Because one girl was a doctor. The other girl was the.
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: The technical chick.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: Yeah, the mechanic. Another girl was the... Security. The security.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: What did these guys do? There were like five other
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: guys that did nothing. Well, there's the captain guy.
- 1:09:28Speaker 20: Right.
- 1:09:29Speaker 8: Ferris' dad is like the businessman. He's the Burke of
- 1:09:32Speaker 8: this ship. He's there to screw people over.
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: Although he doesn't, really.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Yeah, they know nothing. You know, yeah.
- 1:09:38Speaker 24: Yeah.
- 1:09:38Speaker 8: But the other guys, like the other random guys, I
- 1:09:41Speaker 8: don't know what, like, Dreaming in the Window guy was
- 1:09:44Speaker 8: supposed to be doing.
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: They had no technical expertise in anything.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: They were just there.
- 1:09:48Speaker 16: They're like building maintenance guys.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: They're pushing a mop bucket around the space. They have
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: to keep Steve around. He knows how to make the
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: good coffee.
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: Sometimes that'll save your job.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: So, yeah, I don't know. Just like he pokes him.
- 1:10:03Speaker 8: Oh, he's dead. I mean, not only would that not
- 1:10:05Speaker 8: tell you it was dead if it were a person,
- 1:10:07Speaker 8: but you don't know.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: Anything about this life form. Right. Why not kick it
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: out into space that you have available?
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: Well, and then, like, so then that next scene went,
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: guess what?
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: He's not dead.
- 1:10:15Speaker 8: Spoiler alert.
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: So it's not dead. Well, then Ferris' dad is fighting
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: with it. They just happen to land directly on top
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: of the door.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: Is that how that went? We just, oops, happened exactly
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: on the door.
- 1:10:30Speaker 8: Door in the middle of the floor here feel free
- 1:10:32Speaker 8: to drop us out into the space at what point was.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: It where they were back in the bulkhead or whatever
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: and she'd gone out and they were supposed to be
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: protecting her or whatever and you hear her screaming you
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: know bloody murder screams top of her lungs and he's
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: like did you hear that Oh, it was nothing.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: You're in space. There's three people on this ship. There's
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: something chasing after you. Who do you think it was?
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: You're talking to the other guy. Anything else we need
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: to cover on the creature here?
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: Don't watch it. There are a hundred other bad sci-fi movies.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: That you can enjoy for being bad.
- 1:11:16Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: There's nothing.
- 1:11:17Speaker 8: And enjoy, like legitimately enjoy, not just acknowledge that it's bad.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: Right. There was very little redeeming qualities about this at all.
- 1:11:28Speaker 16: Yeah, there was nothing even to hate.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: Yeah, it wasn't even like.
- 1:11:31Speaker 8: It's just like, oh, come on.
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: It wasn't so bad that it was good. Again, it
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: was just bad.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: It came up to that point and backed off a little.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it was sad.
- 1:11:41Speaker 8: So, I don't know, I think they almost sum up
- 1:11:43Speaker 8: their own movie with that last line, more or less, of,
- 1:11:47Speaker 8: are we having fun yet?
- 1:11:49Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:11:49Speaker 6: I'm like, no, actually.
- 1:11:51Speaker 8: It's like, it's bad to put that at the end
- 1:11:54Speaker 8: of your movie, because the audience is going.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: To answer for you. Well, and I really kind of
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: wanted the creature to win. Yeah, kind of. So, and
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: how did all of a sudden... They had a bomb...
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: That was supposed to blow up when it counted down.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: Or was it counting down to being armed? And it
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: didn't go off?
- 1:12:13Speaker 8: I guess.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: It didn't go off.
- 1:12:15Speaker 8: Oh, yes, it did. And then she shot it and
- 1:12:17Speaker 8: it went off?
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: Oh, yes, it did.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Like a gun that wasn't effective?
- 1:12:20Speaker 8: Oh, no, you didn't.
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: It didn't make any sense.
- 1:12:23Speaker 8: Don't go to that planet, girlfriend. You tell them, Simone.
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: Yeah, that scene was terrible. That line was terrible.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: And how did she have enough oxygen to wander around
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: for six hours in space?
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: She hooked up with some German technology, I suppose. She
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: got lost.
- 1:12:43Speaker 8: She got lost.
- 1:12:46Speaker 6: No.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: You think I wouldn't have, once we got the ship started,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: I wouldn't have just killed her for being inept?
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: No.
- 1:12:52Speaker 24: Oh.
- 1:12:57Speaker 8: All right, I say we take a break and come
- 1:12:59Speaker 8: back with more of this crazy coverage.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: I've been growing for so long.
- 1:13:18Speaker 21: This twisted tale I told makes me feel so wrong.
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: The speaker speaks of the weaker. Preacher's preacher teach this
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: teacher to feature this creature.
- 1:13:35Speaker 8: You created this creature.
- 1:13:40Speaker 21: You created this creature.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: Hi, everybody. I'm Steve Martin. Be sure to watch this
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: year's Oscars. Big stars, big movies. I can't wait.
- 1:14:09Speaker 8: Hi, this is Louis Gossett Jr. This is Movie Meltdown.
- 1:14:21Speaker 8: One man, one goal.
- 1:14:24Speaker 21: One mission, one heart, one soul. Just one solution, one
- 1:14:35Speaker 21: flash of light.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Live this Sunday, celebrate the biggest entertainment event of the
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: year with two incredible hosts.
- 1:14:47Speaker 8: Hi, I'm Alec Baldwin.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: Hi, I'm Steve Martin.
- 1:15:03Speaker 8: We just don't want to.
- 1:15:11Speaker 12: Change the past.
- 1:15:19Speaker 8: If you fuck up the space time continuum, I swear
- 1:15:23Speaker 8: to God.
- 1:15:23Speaker 9: My eye is twitching. It's really awkward.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: Did you not get enough sleep? I never do. It's mine.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Whenever I don't get enough sleep, mine just starts to
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: do this. It's all the pork. Pork.
- 1:15:35Speaker 8: Pork spasm.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: I'm having a pork spasm in my eye.
- 1:15:43Speaker 8: Pork spasm.
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: Pork spasm.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: It's when you're fucking a pig, right?
- 1:15:47Speaker 15: It's a pork spasm.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: That's legal in this state.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: Come on.
- 1:15:55Speaker 9: If we have access to the time-space continuum, can we
- 1:15:57Speaker 9: go back two minutes and pretend you never said that?
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: I'll say it again, so it won't really do you
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: any good. Okay, can you handle something for me? I
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: needed people that I've never asked this before. Many years ago,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: maybe I did bring this up once. They were talking
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: about the, I worked with a maintenance crew, and they
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: were talking about the Love You dolls, which is a
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: blow-up doll that's a, you know, a you, not a human.
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: A what?
- 1:16:25Speaker 8: A sheep.
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: So it's a love you doll. Love you. No, they
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: made a doll of you.
- 1:16:32Speaker 22: We assumed you knew.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: Remember when you were doing that mold that you were like,
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: what is this for again? Don't you worry about it.
- 1:16:41Speaker 9: Now that you mention it.
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: It's for you.
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: I said at the time, I said, well, check the
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: anatomy because at least it can be female. And they
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: all just were flabbergasted at the fact that it mattered
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: to me and i kind of.
- 1:17:01Speaker 12: Am right now actually i'm just thinking you know what.
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: If you're gonna fuck a goat or a.
- 1:17:07Speaker 12: Sheep or whatever i'd be picky yeah honestly why does
- 1:17:12Speaker 12: it have to matter i.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: Think the point was for me at that point it is.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: Not that I have any problem with the sodomy end
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: of it.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: The sodomy end of it? In fact, that part is
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: really good.
- 1:17:31Speaker 15: For the record, he likes the butt.
- 1:17:33Speaker 8: Yeah, okay, continue.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: But what I'm saying is, at least you don't have
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: two taboos.
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: Thrown at you.
- 1:17:41Speaker 15: How is that not making it hotter?
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: And you can at least have.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: um you know you could like pretend it was still
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: you know the female anatomy.
- 1:17:52Speaker 8: So i'm you know i'm into bestiality but i'm not
- 1:17:55Speaker 8: gay all right let's get that straight.
- 1:18:00Speaker 12: Actually hold on let's go back to that line of
- 1:18:02Speaker 12: thought he has an interesting point because more than likely
- 1:18:08Speaker 12: and pardon me if i'm stereotyping i don't know white
- 1:18:11Speaker 12: guys um Who.
- 1:18:13Speaker 15: Happen to wear white hoods. But chances are, if.
- 1:18:18Speaker 12: You're racist from the deep south, maybe in the KKK,
- 1:18:26Speaker 12: you might be fucking a goat and you don't want
- 1:18:29Speaker 12: to be gay.
- 1:18:31Speaker 8: Yeah, there's probably a lot of people that fall into
- 1:18:34Speaker 8: that situation.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: You know, it was tongue-in-cheek for me to have said it,
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: but they said how stupid of me that it mattered.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: And I was like, what?
- 1:18:44Speaker 8: Well, your response should have been, look, look, look.
- 1:18:46Speaker 9: You're the one talking about fucking sheep.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: If I'm fucking a sheep, it's on. for procreation, all right?
- 1:18:53Speaker 8: I'm not trying to get off and do anything weird.
- 1:18:56Speaker 6: It's only, you know, like the Bible says, only to procreate.
- 1:19:01Speaker 6: And that's how the goat man of Alcatraz.
- 1:19:04Speaker 15: No, not Alcatraz.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: The Trestles.
- 1:19:06Speaker 15: The J-Town Trestles.
- 1:19:08Speaker 12: The only non-sexual goat man in the United States.
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: The only non-sexual goat man. He has a t-shirt.
- 1:19:15Speaker 15: I'm the only non-sexual.
- 1:19:18Speaker 6: But it's written in goat, so you can't read it.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: He's got a timeshare with the Jersey Devils. And that alphabet,
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: the F comes after the G.
- 1:19:26Speaker 12: So we're in goat alphabetical order.
- 1:19:30Speaker 15: And this ties into a movie.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: Well, wait, that was a callback.
- 1:19:34Speaker 11: I was watching something yesterday that this conversation happened in.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: And it's killing me.
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: Were you in hell somewhere?
- 1:19:42Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:19:43Speaker 8: I think.
- 1:19:44Speaker 11: Was there something on The Office or something?
- 1:19:46Speaker 8: I don't know. I was watching.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: We are way better than The Office.
- 1:19:49Speaker 8: I'm sorry.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:19:50Speaker 11: Actually, the new season is looking kind of interesting.
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:19:54Speaker 8: They had an off year.
- 1:19:55Speaker 15: I think it's because I work in an office. I
- 1:19:57Speaker 15: just look at it and I'm like.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: My point originally was, and I was much younger, I
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: was 18 when this occurred.
- 1:20:05Speaker 11: I still said, at least the first conversation about.
- 1:20:10Speaker 8: The love you call. When we started this conversation right now.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: It was, at least if you were having intercourse with
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: the female, it would be using it for its intended purpose.
- 1:20:22Speaker 12: Right.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:20:25Speaker 6: Yes, goat fucking. Sheep fucking, as it were.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: The dual taboo. I don't think.
- 1:20:32Speaker 15: The intended purpose is for you to have sex.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: With a goat. Well, that's where you and I differ.
- 1:20:38Speaker 15: I think the intended purpose is because goats are delicious.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: Wow. Okay, I'm just going to drop it because no
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: one's ever.
- 1:20:47Speaker 15: I'm thinking of pig. I'm thinking of pig fucking.
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: Because pig fucking, it doesn't matter which orifice you use.
- 1:20:56Speaker 15: Exactly.
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: You know, pigs don't really care.
- 1:20:59Speaker 15: Look at babe.
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: Don't not babe though.
- 1:21:02Speaker 8: He's different.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: I'm sorry I ever brought it up.
- 1:21:09Speaker 11: Fuck it, I'm out of here.
- 1:21:11Speaker 6: And with that, you've creeped out Steve and he's leaving. Fuck,
- 1:21:13Speaker 6: you know I'm leaving. You people are awful.
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: That's true. You know what?
- 1:21:21Speaker 12: It's important after we watch Creature that there is at
- 1:21:24Speaker 12: least some convincing acting involved.
- 1:21:28Speaker 25: Well, when does it start? I think it was Marlena's moment.
- 1:21:43Speaker 25: We are in their world.
- 1:21:45Speaker 9: I was curious why these girls were slightly less attractive
- 1:21:48Speaker 9: and less well-dressed than most girls that covered the runway.
- 1:21:51Speaker 9: It's because it's not really like E! News or like ABC.
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: It's lame internet. It's basically what we're doing.
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: They're set up in a bagel shop.
- 1:22:04Speaker 6: We're way cooler than these two losers.
- 1:22:08Speaker 9: That girl on the right didn't even get her hair done.
- 1:22:12Speaker 16: Her lipstick is totally wrong. It's got this orange tone
- 1:22:17Speaker 16: to it.
- 1:22:17Speaker 6: Teen Choice Awards? They just handed her a surfboard. Hold on.
- 1:22:23Speaker 11: Best Supporting Female. Not actress, just female. Out of all
- 1:22:28Speaker 11: the cast, crew, the producers. She's the best. Most supportive.
- 1:22:36Speaker 11: Where's the best extra award?
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: They should really have that.
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: 14th guy on the right.
- 1:22:41Speaker 11: There are some people who are really good at that.
- 1:22:45Speaker 11: And there are people who are horrible. And you can't
- 1:22:48Speaker 11: even figure out why they're so horrible. They just ruin
- 1:22:51Speaker 11: the scene.
- 1:22:51Speaker 9: All you have to do is stand there and you're failing.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: There's a woman that's been on at least two episodes
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: of How I Met Your Mother in the bar. And
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: I think they probably filmed it on the same day,
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: but it was different episodes. So they kept the same extras.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: And every time they're looking over Ted's shoulder with her
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: in the booth behind him, she'll look directly at the camera.
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: She'll be talking to the person across from her and
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: look and smile at the camera and then go right
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: back to it.
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: So worst extra award goes to her?
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: Right. I'm calling you out right here. You know who
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: you are. And it's almost like she's saying, Hi, Mom,
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: right there on camera.
- 1:23:32Speaker 11: In Paris, Texas, when he pulls into town to find
- 1:23:37Speaker 11: Natasha Kinski, And for some reason there's a shot of
- 1:23:41Speaker 11: the car pulling in and parking. And in the building
- 1:23:45Speaker 11: behind him, up in a window, somebody waves.
- 1:23:48Speaker 6: Nice.
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:51Speaker 11: And there's in Zeffirelli's Hamlet with Mel Gibson, when they're
- 1:23:56Speaker 11: doing the play within the play, but they're just doing
- 1:23:59Speaker 11: the little comic stuff, there's a woman in the audience
- 1:24:02Speaker 11: who just laughs. And you can see her whole life
- 1:24:06Speaker 11: in that moment. She's the greatest extra in any movie
- 1:24:09Speaker 11: I've ever seen.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: Did you see your girl on the stream there, Brian,
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: a second ago?
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:24:16Speaker 6: I was distracted.
- 1:24:17Speaker 16: I wasn't really listening to what you were saying.
- 1:24:19Speaker 8: Selena was on the screen.
- 1:24:21Speaker 9: I mean, seriously, what's wrong with this girl? It's just
- 1:24:23Speaker 9: like she's never seen a curling iron before.
- 1:24:26Speaker 16: That is kind of a scraggly look.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: It's horrible.
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: Oh, there's the snarky comments we're known for.
- 1:24:33Speaker 9: You know what's really funny? It's like her job to
- 1:24:36Speaker 9: make snarky comments, and then we're like second-hand snarky comments.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: This is like a meta snarky comment. We're circling back around.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: What's with the Superman-colored outfit? Right. And her red shirt
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: does not go with her red hair.
- 1:24:52Speaker 9: I love to wear red shirts with my red hair.
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 1:24:55Speaker 16: You've done it all wrong.
- 1:24:57Speaker 8: Shut up.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: No, it's okay.
- 1:24:59Speaker 9: I want to hope that I pull it off a
- 1:25:01Speaker 9: little better than she does.
- 1:25:02Speaker 11: Some of those work when they're not supposed to.
- 1:25:05Speaker 9: I like his glasses.
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: Who the hell is it, though? I can't tell from here.
- 1:25:12Speaker 11: I'm getting a Richard Gere vibe from him.
- 1:25:14Speaker 16: But it's not him.
- 1:25:15Speaker 9: It's that distinguished older man look.
- 1:25:18Speaker 11: It's that practicing rapist.
- 1:25:20Speaker 16: I mean, Buddhist.
- 1:25:22Speaker 8: Which is it? He's a practicing.
- 1:25:25Speaker 6: Hey, that hamster was asking for it.
- 1:25:28Speaker 8: Come on now.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: That's rude.
- 1:25:31Speaker 11: No, actually, that was from an SNL skit the year,
- 1:25:34Speaker 11: and it was a really good one, and it was
- 1:25:36Speaker 11: like negative ad.
- 1:25:37Speaker 6: Campaigns for the Oscars.
- 1:25:39Speaker 16: And it was Frida saying, Was up against Chicago, I guess.
- 1:25:55Speaker 8: Probably right.
- 1:25:55Speaker 11: And so she was coming on and she was saying
- 1:25:57Speaker 11: things like, you know, and Richard Gere is a practicing rapist.
- 1:26:03Speaker 16: Well, that was an error. I meant Buddhist. That was
- 1:26:07Speaker 16: a really funny bet.
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: Voting for Hayek.
- 1:26:12Speaker 16: Voting for Frida.
- 1:26:14Speaker 9: Wow, she's so much taller than he is. It's kind
- 1:26:17Speaker 9: of awkward.
- 1:26:18Speaker 16: Is that Natalie Portman?
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: That's Natalie Portman.
- 1:26:21Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:26:22Speaker 9: Here's a photograph of Natalie Portman.
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: It's from two years ago.
- 1:26:27Speaker 8: We're just thumbing through an Us magazine at this point.
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: See, that's Michelle Williams. She wasn't wearing that today.
- 1:26:35Speaker 11: Yeah, so we're talking to a photograph of Michelle Williams.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: Wait, this is like our coverage. The old Conan episodes
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: when they had the mouth.
- 1:26:44Speaker 8: The living lips.
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: Yeah, how's it going? I'm Bill Clinton.
- 1:26:51Speaker 6: That's what we should just do with our Oscar coverage.
- 1:26:54Speaker 16: Oh, that would be great.
- 1:26:57Speaker 11: Is she wearing poison ivy on her boobs?
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: That was from years ago.
- 1:27:01Speaker 11: Yeah, that was when she got her crazy Oscar.
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: They don't even.
- 1:27:04Speaker 9: Have access to this year's Oscar.
- 1:27:06Speaker 24: Where am I from four years ago's Red Carpet? We're
- 1:27:12Speaker 24: filming at my dentist's office. We've got some magazines here.
- 1:27:19Speaker 24: It looks like a dentist's office. Well, not that.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: What dentist do you go to? No, that looks like
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: my pediatrician. No, it was the other place where they're
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: sitting on the two sides.
- 1:27:33Speaker 8: That looks like a dentist.
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: Yeah, here we go. It's a dentist office.
- 1:27:36Speaker 8: Look at that stack of magazines.
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: It looks like they broke.
- 1:27:39Speaker 9: Into the set for the Nate Berkus show.
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: They wish. Right. It wouldn't look that gaudy.
- 1:27:46Speaker 9: That's true.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: Oscars.
- 1:27:48Speaker 16: Gwyneth Paltrow.
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: And is that information that's blacked out?
- 1:27:53Speaker 6: That's her address.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:27:56Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Those are like the vulgar.
- 1:28:01Speaker 15: Comments on some online thing.
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: It looks like the comments on Twitter feed. Green and
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: Paltrow is a dumbass. Love it.
- 1:28:14Speaker 16: I fucking hate it.
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: Let's call that 85%. Johnny 85. I'd fuck that.
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: This is how most comments see sections go.
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: I'd hit that twice.
- 1:28:25Speaker 8: This is why you can't show things on the internet
- 1:28:28Speaker 8: on television.
- 1:28:29Speaker 9: I'd let him punch me in the face any day.
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: Oh, God. Like 400 comments of that.
- 1:28:33Speaker 9: I want to go punch those women in the face.
- 1:28:35Speaker 8: I'm so sad for our society.
- 1:28:38Speaker 9: Oh, man. I forget. posted something on Facebook and it
- 1:28:41Speaker 9: was like Apparently this girl had complained about a prayer being,
- 1:28:46Speaker 9: like the Lord's Prayer being posted at school. And like
- 1:28:48Speaker 9: the Twitter feed about it was like, I'm going to
- 1:28:50Speaker 9: fucking rape that bitch. And it was like, that atheist
- 1:28:56Speaker 9: motherfucker is going to go to hell. And God's going
- 1:28:58Speaker 9: to ass fuck her with that banner.
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: Oh, charming. Wow. I love the world.
- 1:29:03Speaker 6: I love Christianity. It's a wonderful place, isn't it?
- 1:29:07Speaker 8: It's magical.
- 1:29:08Speaker 11: Oh, at least now her lipstick matches something for a minute.
- 1:29:13Speaker 9: I really have to go.
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: Yes, it's a hour and a half later than you said.
- 1:29:18Speaker 8: Alright, Marlena's out of here, so do your special Oscar wave.
- 1:29:23Speaker 9: Is it like the queen wave?
- 1:29:25Speaker 15: I don't really.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: Do your Oscar dance.
- 1:29:28Speaker 8: Is it the Angelina Jolie thing? Yeah, show your leg.
- 1:29:32Speaker 8: That's not an Angelina face. Wait a minute.
- 1:29:35Speaker 9: There was this meme on Facebook and it was like,
- 1:29:41Speaker 9: how girls think they look. It has a picture of
- 1:29:43Speaker 9: Angelina Jolie.
- 1:29:46Speaker 8: And what they look like.
- 1:29:47Speaker 15: That's most of my scene.
- 1:30:10Speaker 8: Mummy?
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: Yes, dear.
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: Mummy, I want to hear some of Nick Tan's wonderful songs.
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: Do you, dear? Yes, Mummy. What can I do? Well, dear,
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: you can go to www.nictan.co.uk. Will there be details of
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: his gigs there too, Mummy? Yes, dear. Will there be
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: pictures of him and his instruments?
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: Oh, Mummy, please say yes.
- 1:30:41Speaker 21: Yes, dear.
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: Will there be widgets, too, to click on? You know,
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: those ones that link to his blogs and his podcasts?
- 1:30:50Speaker 8: Yes, dear.
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: And links to his friends' websites, too? Yes, dear.
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: Mummy?
- 1:30:59Speaker 21: Yes, dear.
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: Are there links to simply everything that Nick Tan does there?
- 1:31:04Speaker 26: Yes, dear.
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: What was the address again, mummy dearest? www.nictan.co.uk Oh, thank you, mummy.
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: Thank you so very much.
- 1:31:23Speaker 20: As you know, this program has a history in the
- 1:31:25Speaker 20: past of running a tad too long. But this year,
- 1:31:28Speaker 20: our producer Howard Koch assured me that this program tonight
- 1:31:31Speaker 20: is going to be fast-paced and will end exactly on schedule.
- 1:31:36Speaker 20: But I wouldn't go by Howard.
- 1:31:37Speaker 9: Um....
- 1:31:39Speaker 20: Last month he bought a summer home on Washington's Mount St. Helens,
- 1:31:43Speaker 20: so his timing may be a little suspect.
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 1:31:50Speaker 14: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 1:31:55Speaker 12: And now, on with the show.
- 1:31:59Speaker 21: I think my feet just look down and turn. No,
- 1:32:05Speaker 21: that's the way it's starting again. Toby, Toby, I'm on
- 1:32:12Speaker 21: the wall. Toby, you're my own wall. A tribute in
- 1:32:20Speaker 21: the ground.
- 1:32:35Speaker 15: Take it to the wall.
- 1:32:36Speaker 8: All right, so we've ditched Marlena and Steve so we
- 1:32:38Speaker 8: can move on and get the really good stuff going now.
- 1:32:42Speaker 6: Lost those slackers.
- 1:32:44Speaker 8: I thought they'd never leave. No, really?
- 1:32:46Speaker 17: God.
- 1:32:48Speaker 8: All right, so we're back with the rest of the
- 1:32:50Speaker 8: Meltdown Awards. Once again, all the voting is provided by
- 1:32:54Speaker 8: the Movie Meltdown Secret Circle. And if you want to
- 1:32:56Speaker 8: hear the official information on tabulating the votes, go back
- 1:32:59Speaker 8: and listen to last week's episode. Okay, let's see. We
- 1:33:03Speaker 8: left off. We were at Category 9 is Best Villain.
- 1:33:07Speaker 16: Ooh, dastardly.
- 1:33:10Speaker 8: So once again, this one actually has a winner, and
- 1:33:14Speaker 8: I think I've even mentioned this last week, that this
- 1:33:17Speaker 8: was sort of one of the more impressive semi-villain roles
- 1:33:21Speaker 8: I've seen lately. Albert Brooks in Drive. Very unexpected from him,
- 1:33:27Speaker 8: and yet still plays it pretty well. We had several
- 1:33:32Speaker 8: for that. We also had votes for Red Skull and
- 1:33:34Speaker 8: Captain America, which turned out to be a lot better
- 1:33:38Speaker 8: than I... Again, that one could have gone really cheesy,
- 1:33:41Speaker 8: and it didn't. And I think the actor kind of
- 1:33:44Speaker 8: helped elevate that. But yeah, it ended up being a
- 1:33:46Speaker 8: lot better than I expected. This one I like.
- 1:33:49Speaker 24: Um.
- 1:33:50Speaker 8: Justin Bieber in Never Say Never. Oh, that's funny. And
- 1:33:57Speaker 8: then Reverend Cooper in Red State, which I still haven't
- 1:34:01Speaker 8: gotten to see yet.
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's worth seeing.
- 1:34:04Speaker 8: Talk to Netflix on that.
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: Oh, did they not make it unavailable?
- 1:34:08Speaker 8: I don't know. It wasn't working that first time, and
- 1:34:11Speaker 8: I still haven't had a chance to go back.
- 1:34:13Speaker 11: Yeah, every now and then I've got one that says,
- 1:34:16Speaker 11: Will not play at this time.
- 1:34:18Speaker 8: We're having trouble playing it. But, yep, Albert Brooks and Drive.
- 1:34:22Speaker 8: I can't argue with that. He was really good in that.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: I like Albert Brooks.
- 1:34:28Speaker 8: He's one of those, and that's the thing. Even in comedy,
- 1:34:30Speaker 8: he almost was a little too familiar sometimes. I think
- 1:34:33Speaker 8: that's why I like this so much. Like, I like
- 1:34:36Speaker 8: him as a person, but then they would throw him
- 1:34:38Speaker 8: in movies, and a lot of times he would end
- 1:34:40Speaker 8: up being that same guy. So I think that's why
- 1:34:42Speaker 8: I was so happy to see him in Drive, because
- 1:34:44Speaker 8: it's not what he always does. There's a touch of it.
- 1:34:47Speaker 8: There's just enough that it kind of suckers you in,
- 1:34:50Speaker 8: and you feel okay with his character, but you know
- 1:34:52Speaker 8: something's not right, and you know things are not going
- 1:34:55Speaker 8: to go well, so... Yeah, I think that was my
- 1:34:57Speaker 8: favorite part, that it's just different enough.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: Out of him.
- 1:35:02Speaker 8: The next category is Best Monster. I thought it was
- 1:35:05Speaker 8: pretty fun. Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber, never say never. No,
- 1:35:10Speaker 8: we have... This one we don't have a specific winner,
- 1:35:15Speaker 8: but I don't know, there's one I'm definitely leaning towards.
- 1:35:17Speaker 8: We have Trolls and Troll Hunter.
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: You know what? Well, anyway....
- 1:35:26Speaker 8: Oh, Super 8. I kind of figured that one was coming.
- 1:35:31Speaker 8: It's all right. Aliens in Attack the Block. I got
- 1:35:35Speaker 8: to say, I really ended up liking them. As much
- 1:35:39Speaker 8: as that, again, could have gone really bad, I ended
- 1:35:42Speaker 8: up liking those creatures. I think the effects that they used,
- 1:35:47Speaker 8: you know, it was... On a budget, but I don't
- 1:35:51Speaker 8: think it suffered from it. I think it still ended
- 1:35:53Speaker 8: up looking pretty good. So I'm kind of sold with
- 1:35:56Speaker 8: that one.
- 1:35:57Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: Is that, there were no clear winner on that one? No.
- 1:36:00Speaker 8: That one was just. So are you going to decide?
- 1:36:03Speaker 11: I think I gave it to a.
- 1:36:05Speaker 8: Unless you guys have other options.
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: Decide.
- 1:36:07Speaker 8: I'm leaning towards it. Go ahead.
- 1:36:09Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:36:10Speaker 8: I'm sold on the aliens and attack the block.
- 1:36:12Speaker 6: So they were pretty awesome.
- 1:36:15Speaker 8: Oh, let's see.
- 1:36:16Speaker 6: This I thought was fun.
- 1:36:18Speaker 8: The best or worst, depending on how you look at it,
- 1:36:20Speaker 8: product placement in a 2011 film.
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:36:25Speaker 8: So we have Chronicle with Pringles and Pepsi featured in
- 1:36:30Speaker 8: a bit.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Obnoxious.
- 1:36:33Speaker 8: We have Kodak in Super 8.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: Yeah, but that seems, that's fair.
- 1:36:40Speaker 6: That one's pretty, yeah, I thought that was pretty minimal, really.
- 1:36:42Speaker 8: Yeah. This one is the one I kind of expected
- 1:36:46Speaker 8: everybody to put. Everything and Thor. Thor got a lot
- 1:36:50Speaker 8: of hype for being massively product placement.
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: But, I don't know.
- 1:36:55Speaker 8: I'm leaning towards the final one here. Zookeeper. Zookeeper, they
- 1:37:01Speaker 8: drive to TGI Fridays with the animal and go... I mean,
- 1:37:05Speaker 8: the whole thing is centered around going to Fridays.
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: I just... Oh, man. Yeah, and he says... I had
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: to see that one. And how they... Talk about it
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: being the best place in the world.
- 1:37:17Speaker 8: Yeah, it just seems obnoxious.
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: You know, there were more.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: I remember as soon as you said zookeeper, there are
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: more product.
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: Placement moments in it. But I don't remember them all.
- 1:37:33Speaker 8: So, yeah, I think that's the most obnoxious one.
- 1:37:36Speaker 11: Not remembering product placements is the best revenge.
- 1:37:41Speaker 8: That's what I'm thinking.
- 1:37:42Speaker 17: No, definitely.
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: Intentionally buying their competitors' product is the best revenge.
- 1:37:50Speaker 11: When I saw the Facebook movie, I had to look up,
- 1:37:53Speaker 11: I looked up online, I Googled, how does Facebook make money?
- 1:37:56Speaker 11: And then I read this thing about how it's ads,
- 1:37:58Speaker 11: and I'm like, there are ads on Facebook?
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:38:02Speaker 11: Because they have become completely invisible to me.
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: Now, I.
- 1:38:07Speaker 8: Oh, look, yeah, there I am. I don't pay attention to.
- 1:38:10Speaker 6: Every once in a while.
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: I found a way to shut them off.
- 1:38:15Speaker 8: Every once in a while, one will catch me off
- 1:38:17Speaker 8: guard as to what it is, and then I'll be like, wait,
- 1:38:20Speaker 8: what does that say? But, yeah, a good 90% of
- 1:38:22Speaker 8: the time.
- 1:38:22Speaker 11: They're so good at gathering information, how come I never
- 1:38:25Speaker 11: see any fucking thing I want? I mean, that wouldn't
- 1:38:29Speaker 11: be a terrible thing if they would show me shit
- 1:38:31Speaker 11: I want, but they can't seem to do it.
- 1:38:37Speaker 8: All right, the next one I figured is right up
- 1:38:38Speaker 8: our alley.
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:38:40Speaker 8: This is... Forget their impressive acting skills. Hottest actor or
- 1:38:45Speaker 8: actress in a 2011 film. All right. I was like, yeah,
- 1:38:48Speaker 8: let's just go straight to the superficial. That's how we roll.
- 1:38:51Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: So, yeah, we have.
- 1:38:56Speaker 8: One I think they're being a smartass. Somebody here put
- 1:38:59Speaker 8: Tara Patrick. Yes, I know this person watches a lot
- 1:39:03Speaker 8: of porn, but I don't know if I'm going to.
- 1:39:06Speaker 8: And then, well, first of all, I recognize the name, but. Obviously,
- 1:39:09Speaker 8: my porn isn't her porn because I was like, I
- 1:39:11Speaker 8: don't even remember what the hell she looks like. So
- 1:39:13Speaker 8: I looked her up. I was like, eh, I don't
- 1:39:16Speaker 8: get it. I mean, I get what she's selling. I
- 1:39:19Speaker 8: see her assets, but as far as being genuinely attractive, eh,
- 1:39:25Speaker 8: I'm not sold on her. She is half Thai, so
- 1:39:30Speaker 8: that's kind of cool in this show because it's almost
- 1:39:34Speaker 8: the exact same story, so it sounded like, but yeah.
- 1:39:37Speaker 6: I thought that was interesting.
- 1:39:38Speaker 8: But other than that, yeah, it wasn't all that sold
- 1:39:40Speaker 8: on her visually. The other three, I can't argue with
- 1:39:44Speaker 8: any of them. I'm leaning towards one, especially on this show.
- 1:39:48Speaker 8: One is Amber Heard.
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:39:51Speaker 8: She's kind of a favorite as the show goes, so
- 1:39:54Speaker 8: it's hard not going with that one. But this one's
- 1:39:57Speaker 8: kind of up and coming. Imogene Poots from Fright Night.
- 1:40:02Speaker 8: She's ridiculously hot in that movie. I'm not going to
- 1:40:05Speaker 8: argue that.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: I didn't see Fright Night, so.
- 1:40:10Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:40:11Speaker 8: She's, and again, it's one of those, I guess it's
- 1:40:13Speaker 8: kind of weird, because I don't remember seeing her and
- 1:40:16Speaker 8: stuff in the middle, and the last thing I saw
- 1:40:18Speaker 8: her in, she was still kind of a kid.
- 1:40:19Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: So it's really kind of weird now. That's hard.
- 1:40:24Speaker 8: But I can't argue the fact that she's ridiculously hot now.
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: Like, she's grown up, she's an adult, and she's ridiculously hot.
- 1:40:32Speaker 8: Just when you think you're not a pedophile... Some new
- 1:40:36Speaker 8: young actress comes along. Once she's 18, you can't argue anything.
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: Yeah, but once she's 18, but you still watch her
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: when she's 14, that's.
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: The crazy part.
- 1:40:47Speaker 8: You can't prove that. Actually, I think with the new
- 1:40:52Speaker 8: Google privacy changes, yes. We're going to have to stop
- 1:40:57Speaker 8: the show now. I have to go take care of something.
- 1:40:59Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: They go back through your entire history. I'm fucked.
- 1:41:05Speaker 11: I only searched for one thing one day, and now
- 1:41:09Speaker 11: it keeps coming up there.
- 1:41:11Speaker 8: It was just idle curiosity. I wanted to know. I
- 1:41:14Speaker 8: had a question. If ever anybody types an H.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: It's right there. What are you looking up for? What
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: starts with H?
- 1:41:26Speaker 8: I don't know. So the other option is Emma Watson.
- 1:41:30Speaker 6: You know, kind of the same thing.
- 1:41:31Speaker 8: I was like... It's creepy. It is, but she's really
- 1:41:35Speaker 8: pretty now. She is. She's become a woman in front
- 1:41:40Speaker 8: of our eyes over the span of a hell of
- 1:41:42Speaker 8: a lot of movies.
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: You know, what's strange is when I did first see
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: Lemony Snicket's, and I go, she's going to be attractive.
- 1:41:48Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: And that's the weird part. It's like you feel weird
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: when you go... When you look back, you look back
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: five years later. Yeah, that's right.
- 1:41:56Speaker 8: I think that, well, I think there's a different mode
- 1:41:59Speaker 8: that's not so creepy. That is sort of, it's, it
- 1:42:01Speaker 8: kind of is that thing with Emma Watson. I'm like,
- 1:42:03Speaker 8: she's just really pretty, you know? It's like, I think
- 1:42:06Speaker 8: as a person in general, I think most girls do
- 1:42:09Speaker 8: that in general. So it's not even a pervy guy thing.
- 1:42:12Speaker 8: I think girls do that. Marlena was here. I'm sure
- 1:42:14Speaker 8: she would tell you who is or isn't pretty on
- 1:42:16Speaker 8: the Oscars right now.
- 1:42:17Speaker 14: Right.
- 1:42:18Speaker 19: No.
- 1:42:18Speaker 8: I think you can do that. And I think there
- 1:42:20Speaker 8: is a setting back from being pervy that, you know,
- 1:42:23Speaker 8: you're just acknowledging the fact that, you know, someone is
- 1:42:27Speaker 8: not horrible looking. They've actually turned out to be quite attractive.
- 1:42:31Speaker 8: But it's a fine line, I suppose.
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: The older she gets, the more attractive Michelle Williams gets
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: to me. And I know a lot of people don't
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: like that.
- 1:42:41Speaker 11: All right.
- 1:42:43Speaker 8: I don't say you can't like her.
- 1:42:44Speaker 11: I think people who can act get attractiveness points.
- 1:42:50Speaker 8: Sometimes. I give more personality points, I think, than anything.
- 1:42:54Speaker 8: If I feel like I like them as a person,
- 1:42:57Speaker 8: I think they get way more points from me.
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: I think that's her biggest problem is you don't get
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: anything of who she is. Which one?
- 1:43:04Speaker 8: Michelle Williams?
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43:05Speaker 8: I've never gotten, and I've seen her in a lot
- 1:43:07Speaker 8: of stuff, and I'm just like, you still never get
- 1:43:10Speaker 8: any idea of who she is at all.
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:43:13Speaker 8: I don't know. So, yeah, we'll just, across the board,
- 1:43:17Speaker 8: those other three are hot. I'm not going to argue
- 1:43:19Speaker 8: any of them. If we're leaning towards one, you know,
- 1:43:21Speaker 8: we've got a history with Amber Heard. Somebody on our
- 1:43:24Speaker 8: show has a crush on her, and it's not me.
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:43:28Speaker 8: It's one of the females, so what are you going
- 1:43:29Speaker 8: to do with that? All right, so I thought this...
- 1:43:32Speaker 8: I'm thinking, what will I do with that? Use it later. Okay.
- 1:43:35Speaker 8: I figured this one needed to happen. Worst talking animal
- 1:43:40Speaker 8: movie of 2011. Zookeeper. We do have an answer, but
- 1:43:45Speaker 8: first I do like the first answer. Fuck them all.
- 1:43:52Speaker 8: And in parentheses, and double to anything with Eddie Murphy
- 1:43:55Speaker 8: in it. I don't even think he did one in
- 1:43:58Speaker 8: this year, but you get bonus points just for referencing
- 1:44:01Speaker 8: him because he did several, and they were horrible.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: I think, is there another one coming up? No, there's
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: a movie about him not being able to talk.
- 1:44:09Speaker 12: Oh, God.
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: I give up. Yeah.
- 1:44:12Speaker 11: So he has, it's like Dr. Dolittle, but he has
- 1:44:14Speaker 11: laryngitis with the animals.
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: He has only so many number of words he can
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: say the rest of his life.
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: Or something like that. Oh, God.
- 1:44:25Speaker 8: Sounds ridiculous. That sounds like a concept comedy. That sounds
- 1:44:29Speaker 8: like Liar Liar done a little different.
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:44:33Speaker 8: Or Yes Man done a little different. Wait, haven't we
- 1:44:35Speaker 8: already done that movie twice now with Jim Carrey?
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: Let's do it some more and.
- 1:44:38Speaker 8: Throw Eddie Murphy in the middle of it. Okay, so yeah,
- 1:44:43Speaker 8: we have another one that says, does Smurfs count? Yeah,
- 1:44:48Speaker 8: because that sucked too. So I'll allow that one, but
- 1:44:51Speaker 8: we already got several votes for For Zookeeper, you can't
- 1:44:55Speaker 8: argue Zookeeper. It's like a couple in a row already.
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: You know, looking completely objectively, it was not a horrible
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: movie for what it was. For a family comedy, it
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: wasn't bad.
- 1:45:16Speaker 2: I saw someone I know.
- 1:45:20Speaker 8: Go for several minutes.
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: into how excited they were after they saw that.
- 1:45:26Speaker 8: Ad on tv for that movie and how much they
- 1:45:28Speaker 8: were looking forward to seeing that and i i just
- 1:45:31Speaker 8: kind of sat there like dumbfounded like i i mean
- 1:45:35Speaker 8: they're being.
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: Genuine they're not you know they're not being a smart.
- 1:45:38Speaker 8: Ass like i always am so i don't know how
- 1:45:41Speaker 8: to respond to that with something that to me seems
- 1:45:44Speaker 8: so stupid but You know, what are you going to do?
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: It's like people, if they genuinely like it, fine. I
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: can't knock it.
- 1:45:52Speaker 8: I mean, I don't want people telling me what I
- 1:45:54Speaker 8: can't see because they think it's stupid because I'm sure
- 1:45:57Speaker 8: most people think what I like is stupid.
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: So what I found funny about it.
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: Was the fact that they put Rosario Dawson in a
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: hat and a brown shirt, you know, and less makeup.
- 1:46:14Speaker 2: And she was supposed to be unattractive and awkward.
- 1:46:18Speaker 26: Yeah boy yeah i love when they do that and
- 1:46:21Speaker 26: and then you know they put a dress on her
- 1:46:23Speaker 26: and her hair's down and put makeup on her and
- 1:46:24Speaker 26: he's like oh my god this is the first time
- 1:46:27Speaker 26: i've seen you this way yeah yeah.
- 1:46:29Speaker 8: Is that just her because i mean that was basically
- 1:46:31Speaker 8: the entire setup for clerks too right it's like he's
- 1:46:34Speaker 8: sitting there with her the whole time but dating this
- 1:46:36Speaker 8: horrible woman And then all of a sudden he's like, oh, man,
- 1:46:39Speaker 8: look what I just noticed. You're right here. It's like,
- 1:46:44Speaker 8: is Rosario Dawson, what the fuck are you doing? Pay attention,
- 1:46:47Speaker 8: you jackass.
- 1:46:47Speaker 11: Rosario Dawson looks a little bit like every woman I've
- 1:46:51Speaker 11: ever cared about at all. She just looks a little
- 1:46:56Speaker 11: like everybody that you've ever taken an interest in of
- 1:47:00Speaker 11: the female persuasion.
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: And you know what? She looks.
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: Again, about her personality, she looks really cool.
- 1:47:09Speaker 8: What I've seen of her, she seems pretty damn cool.
- 1:47:13Speaker 8: On board with Rosario Dawson. Yeah, she's totally hot.
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: But yeah, that was the funny part. I was like,
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: you mean he isn't noticing that she's attractive?
- 1:47:22Speaker 8: Man, if you put glasses on her, she's invisible.
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:47:27Speaker 8: Oh, movies.
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: And Kevin James would pass that up.
- 1:47:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:47:35Speaker 8: Because a guy like that, you know, he has his
- 1:47:38Speaker 8: pick of women. No offense. I don't even hate Kevin James.
- 1:47:41Speaker 8: I just hate the movies they make him end up in.
- 1:47:44Speaker 8: They keep giving him this stuff.
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: I think it's Adam Sandler.
- 1:47:48Speaker 8: I couldn't. I mean, yeah. If I were him, the
- 1:47:51Speaker 8: kind of money they throw at him at these last
- 1:47:53Speaker 8: couple of movies, I wouldn't be turning him down either.
- 1:47:56Speaker 8: So I can't blame him. But, yeah, I wish they
- 1:47:59Speaker 8: would stop putting him in stupid movies.
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: Well, I mean, The Mall Cop was like one of
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: the longest runs of number one. for a long time.
- 1:48:06Speaker 8: Probably one of the longest ones that sat in theaters.
- 1:48:08Speaker 8: I mean, you don't get more than about three weeks
- 1:48:10Speaker 8: in a theater these days. So yeah, it's amazing. Once again,
- 1:48:15Speaker 8: that's our society so uh the next one is and
- 1:48:19Speaker 8: i again i thought this was a good category the
- 1:48:22Speaker 8: 2011 movie you expected to hate but ended up enjoying
- 1:48:27Speaker 8: i thought that i i'm finding a few of those
- 1:48:29Speaker 8: along the way.
- 1:48:30Speaker 10: So um see what did i expect to hate i
- 1:48:35Speaker 10: expected to hate the hell but uh I hate it,
- 1:48:39Speaker 10: and I think some of the criticism of it is overblown.
- 1:48:42Speaker 11: It kind of is that kind of movie, but when
- 1:48:46Speaker 11: you compare it to some of the cross-cultural male fantasy-driven movies,
- 1:48:52Speaker 11: it's really not nearly as bad.
- 1:48:54Speaker 8: It's really not.
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: I'm still boycotting it, so, in my brain.
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49:00Speaker 11: Well, it's not great.
- 1:49:01Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:49:02Speaker 11: But some of the criticism against it is really overwrought.
- 1:49:08Speaker 8: Well, the options we have are Killer Elite, which, again,
- 1:49:12Speaker 8: I don't think I have low expectations on that one.
- 1:49:15Speaker 8: I think I was sort of middle of the road
- 1:49:17Speaker 8: on the movie, and I was sold on the cast.
- 1:49:20Speaker 8: So that was sort of a middle range for me. Limitless?
- 1:49:27Speaker 8: I'm still not sure. I still haven't bothered to watch it.
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: I did watch it, and... Yeah, it.
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: It was, because when I first saw the preview, I thought,
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: this is going to be trash.
- 1:49:42Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: It was all right.
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: And unfortunately, I heard a lot of praise for it.
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: And so that's when I went out and watched it,
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: and I was like, oh. And so it's kind of
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: yes and no. You know, my initial reaction was, it's
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: going to suck.
- 1:49:57Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: But it wasn't as good as what people said it
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: was going to be.
- 1:50:01Speaker 8: And I think if any of them actually fit, well, no,
- 1:50:03Speaker 8: we got the... This one, but I was not convinced
- 1:50:06Speaker 8: I was going to hate it. I was convinced it
- 1:50:08Speaker 8: was probably going to be terrible, and I was really
- 1:50:10Speaker 8: going to like it. And I was right. Drive Angry.
- 1:50:13Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 1:50:16Speaker 8: I had a lot of fun with Drive Angry. It
- 1:50:19Speaker 8: was kind of fun. I'm not going to pretend it's
- 1:50:21Speaker 8: a good movie, but I had a lot of fun
- 1:50:23Speaker 8: with it.
- 1:50:24Speaker 11: I just, I guess from what I heard, I never
- 1:50:27Speaker 11: really expected to hate it.
- 1:50:28Speaker 8: Yeah, that was my thing. I thought it looked like
- 1:50:31Speaker 8: it was going to be bad, but kind of an
- 1:50:34Speaker 8: epic good-bad.
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: And it was.
- 1:50:36Speaker 8: Everything about it fell right in.
- 1:50:37Speaker 11: That's kind of how I heard of it, was that
- 1:50:40Speaker 11: it was kind of good, bad, so I didn't really
- 1:50:42Speaker 11: expect to hate it.
- 1:50:44Speaker 8: Again, that's more of a misleading trailer because they really
- 1:50:49Speaker 8: don't clue into what all is going on in that movie.
- 1:50:51Speaker 8: And you get midway into watching it and went, whoa,
- 1:50:54Speaker 8: where did all this stuff come from? And then I
- 1:50:56Speaker 8: ended up kind of liking that even more than if
- 1:50:58Speaker 8: it were just a normal, boring revenge flick. I liked
- 1:51:02Speaker 8: the weird extra angle. By now, you've probably all seen it,
- 1:51:06Speaker 8: but I won't go into it. So, yeah, it was
- 1:51:08Speaker 8: a lot of fun for a dumb movie. I'm almost
- 1:51:12Speaker 8: citing for the one that I really legitimately expected to
- 1:51:15Speaker 8: not like, ended up really liking, the Thing prequel. No.
- 1:51:21Speaker 8: It was, I mean, yeah, we'll talk about going in
- 1:51:25Speaker 8: with a bad attitude and being surprised how well They
- 1:51:30Speaker 8: put it together and did a pretty good companion piece.
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: Sort of tied it to the other one relatively well.
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: What about the Planet of the Apes? Anybody mention that?
- 1:51:41Speaker 20: No.
- 1:51:42Speaker 8: But again, that's kind of the one I was thinking.
- 1:51:44Speaker 8: When I thought of it, I figured a lot of
- 1:51:46Speaker 8: people would come through with Planet of the Apes. People
- 1:51:49Speaker 8: forgot that early for us.
- 1:51:52Speaker 11: Because it blew over so fast that everybody was saying, no,
- 1:51:56Speaker 11: it's all right.
- 1:51:56Speaker 8: Like I said before, I've never seen one do a
- 1:51:58Speaker 8: turnaround like that. I mean, everybody hated the trailer, and
- 1:52:02Speaker 8: that next week, you know, once it opened that weekend,
- 1:52:06Speaker 8: everybody loved it, like across the board. It's, yeah, it's amazing.
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: Everybody forgot that.
- 1:52:10Speaker 8: And then everybody forgot because they didn't mention it on this. But, yeah,
- 1:52:15Speaker 8: I'm siding with the Thing prequel. That one caught me
- 1:52:18Speaker 8: off guard how much I liked it.
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: Did you have the converse of that, movies that you
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: expected but disappointed? Disappointed.
- 1:52:26Speaker 8: No, do you have one?
- 1:52:28Speaker 2: I just was interested.
- 1:52:29Speaker 8: That's so many at this point.
- 1:52:31Speaker 11: I expected to like Drive more than I did, but
- 1:52:34Speaker 11: just by sort of a margin.
- 1:52:36Speaker 8: I think I've just, I'd heard way too many people
- 1:52:38Speaker 8: talk about that one to almost not even have an
- 1:52:41Speaker 8: unbiased opinion, period.
- 1:52:43Speaker 11: I didn't really hate it, but there are parts of
- 1:52:45Speaker 11: it that I think are not very good. And overall,
- 1:52:50Speaker 11: it's just, it's not a big movie.
- 1:52:51Speaker 8: I think, yeah, I think I liked it, but I
- 1:52:53Speaker 8: don't know that it was... great. You know, it was like,
- 1:52:56Speaker 8: it was a good movie and it had some great performances,
- 1:53:00Speaker 8: but yeah, I, I, I don't know. I don't think
- 1:53:03Speaker 8: I was sold as it as a whole. It was good.
- 1:53:06Speaker 8: It just wasn't like the best movie. Yeah.
- 1:53:09Speaker 11: I don't know about others. I, um, I think it's
- 1:53:12Speaker 11: something that I expected to like bridesmaids and I kind
- 1:53:15Speaker 11: of liked it.
- 1:53:16Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 1:53:16Speaker 8: What are the, Oh, uh, midnight in Paris. I, I
- 1:53:22Speaker 8: actually didn't see that. I expected to like that more
- 1:53:24Speaker 8: than I did.
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: I have low expectations, and movie lovers would probably hate
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: me for it, but I expect very little out of him.
- 1:53:35Speaker 8: I think he's gotten a lot of that in the
- 1:53:37Speaker 8: last 15 years. He let a lot of people down
- 1:53:41Speaker 8: with a lot of his movies. What I didn't understand
- 1:53:44Speaker 8: is why.
- 1:53:44Speaker 11: People were talking like this. It was like, oh, is
- 1:53:47Speaker 11: he back? Is he back in form? Has he done
- 1:53:50Speaker 11: something new?
- 1:53:51Speaker 8: Nobody's really liked anything in 15 years or more. There's
- 1:53:55Speaker 8: no reason to.
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: Really.
- 1:53:57Speaker 11: I mean, I don't even know why he bothers to
- 1:53:59Speaker 11: write his own stuff. Because everybody knows what Woody Allen
- 1:54:02Speaker 11: stuff is. He could hire writers to do Woody Allen stuff.
- 1:54:06Speaker 11: And they'd probably bring more energy to it.
- 1:54:08Speaker 8: From that, I mean, I would say, having seen it,
- 1:54:11Speaker 8: I did like it. Again, I didn't love it, but
- 1:54:15Speaker 8: it's exactly what I expected. It's like, it's Woody Allen dialogue.
- 1:54:20Speaker 8: I will give him credit now that he's stepped out
- 1:54:22Speaker 8: of the way. I think it goes better. I like
- 1:54:25Speaker 8: it with him not delivering it. I mean, it still
- 1:54:28Speaker 8: kind of sounds like it, but I will also give
- 1:54:30Speaker 8: Lucy credit because she said when she watched it and
- 1:54:32Speaker 8: I hadn't seen it yet, she said she thought Owen Wilson,
- 1:54:37Speaker 8: she said she thought he was probably the most natural
- 1:54:40Speaker 8: delivering character Woody Allen dialogue. I think she's right. It
- 1:54:44Speaker 8: doesn't seem forced. I can still hear Woody Allen in there,
- 1:54:48Speaker 8: but I can also see it naturally sort of fumbling
- 1:54:51Speaker 8: out of Owen Wilson. But it's more of a West
- 1:54:54Speaker 8: Coast fumble. Yeah.
- 1:54:56Speaker 11: He has like a comparable fumble, but instead of an
- 1:55:00Speaker 11: East Coast fumble, it's a West Coast fumble.
- 1:55:03Speaker 8: Yeah, so I think she was right on that one.
- 1:55:05Speaker 8: It definitely plays better from him than just about anybody
- 1:55:08Speaker 8: else that's sort of stepped into that role in the
- 1:55:11Speaker 8: last few years.
- 1:55:12Speaker 11: I was just surprised because I thought there was going
- 1:55:14Speaker 11: to be something newish about it, but it's like formula.
- 1:55:17Speaker 8: Woody Allen and not really.
- 1:55:19Speaker 11: I mean, I didn't hate it or anything, but you
- 1:55:24Speaker 11: know pretty early on that that dude's marriage is fucked.
- 1:55:29Speaker 8: It's a Woody Allen movie. It's not about infidelity.
- 1:55:33Speaker 11: It's like you're being spoon-fed this stuff and it's kind
- 1:55:39Speaker 11: of cute and funny but it's not really there's no
- 1:55:42Speaker 11: real drama unfolding because you kind of know where it's
- 1:55:46Speaker 11: going you kind of know where what it is i
- 1:55:49Speaker 11: don't know i'll agree with most so it just feels.
- 1:55:52Speaker 8: Tired i think it just seems kind of run of
- 1:55:54Speaker 8: the mill yeah i tired seems a little harsh because
- 1:55:57Speaker 8: that seems like i don't want to watch it i
- 1:55:59Speaker 8: enjoyed watching it i just i agree i kind of
- 1:56:02Speaker 8: knew where most of it was going but i mean
- 1:56:04Speaker 8: it was enjoyable along the way it.
- 1:56:06Speaker 11: Was okay it i don't know I like seeing Kathy
- 1:56:12Speaker 11: Bates as Gertrude Stein with the Picasso portrait behind her.
- 1:56:16Speaker 11: That was pretty cute.
- 1:56:18Speaker 8: It did occur to me that if you're watching Midnight
- 1:56:22Speaker 8: in Paris and you're dumb, you have no idea who
- 1:56:25Speaker 8: all these people are. Really, the movie makes no sense
- 1:56:29Speaker 8: to you if you don't have some sort of grasp
- 1:56:32Speaker 8: on history and important artists.
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: Same thing with Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
- 1:56:40Speaker 8: Those are a little bigger names. They dig pretty deep
- 1:56:46Speaker 8: on Midnight in Paris. I know. Abraham Lincoln I think
- 1:56:49Speaker 8: most people can get. Now, there are some people that
- 1:56:52Speaker 8: probably don't know why it's funny when they're talking to Socrates.
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:56:57Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:56:58Speaker 8: So, all right. Speaking of Woody Allen, best action sequence.
- 1:57:03Speaker 17: Okay.
- 1:57:04Speaker 11: You notice there's never been in film a black Woody
- 1:57:07Speaker 11: Allen type character? I want to see him get an
- 1:57:10Speaker 11: actor like a black actor to be his stand in,
- 1:57:14Speaker 11: because the way films portray black guys is if there's
- 1:57:19Speaker 11: not any bad stuff going on right now, they're cool.
- 1:57:25Speaker 8: You know, they don't they don't stress and worry.
- 1:57:28Speaker 11: It's like a very white guy thing to just be
- 1:57:31Speaker 11: wracked by neurotic worry and mortality and bullshit and you
- 1:57:36Speaker 11: don't you don't see that portrayed in film donald glover
- 1:57:40Speaker 11: that's what i was.
- 1:57:40Speaker 8: Just thinking i was like if anybody can pull it
- 1:57:42Speaker 8: off i'm trying to think of who i'm like actually
- 1:57:44Speaker 8: donald glover could do it i was just thinking that
- 1:57:47Speaker 8: yep interesting I.
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: Think he'd be great at Woody Allen, a black Woody Allen.
- 1:57:51Speaker 8: I would like to see, yeah, if they could write
- 1:57:54Speaker 8: a smart Woody Allen script.
- 1:57:55Speaker 2: Somebody come up with that.
- 1:57:57Speaker 8: Give it to him. Yeah, or somebody just rip off
- 1:57:59Speaker 8: the style of Woody Allen and do it better. Yeah,
- 1:58:02Speaker 8: because you know what it is. We all know what
- 1:58:05Speaker 8: it is now.
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: He can write well off he could probably.
- 1:58:07Speaker 8: Oh yeah actually Donald Glover could do it himself so
- 1:58:10Speaker 8: Donald write this cast yourself.
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: Because we know you listen to the podcast I'm.
- 1:58:14Speaker 8: Sure he does after the nice things we said we
- 1:58:17Speaker 8: talked to his friend Dan you know we're pretty tight
- 1:58:20Speaker 8: you know so.
- 1:58:21Speaker 11: Anyway yeah So, action sequence.
- 1:58:23Speaker 8: Action sequence.
- 1:58:24Speaker 15: Action sequence.
- 1:58:25Speaker 8: So... Action sequence. Our options here... Actually, there's a couple.
- 1:58:31Speaker 8: We've mentioned one already last week. The no-cut scene from Super. Oh, yeah.
- 1:58:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:58:40Speaker 8: When I think action sequence, that's not disturbing sequence, maybe.
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: But, I don't know. Action.
- 1:58:45Speaker 8: I think I just go more grand in my thinking.
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 1:58:50Speaker 8: This one I didn't see, so I don't know. It
- 1:58:52Speaker 8: might be very good. The Taking of the Bridge in
- 1:58:55Speaker 8: Battle LA. I'm kind of going to have to watch
- 1:58:57Speaker 8: it just for cheesy sci-fi reasons, but I still haven't
- 1:59:01Speaker 8: gotten to it yet.
- 1:59:01Speaker 11: If somebody's nominating it for Best Action Sequence, I kind
- 1:59:05Speaker 11: of want to see it just for that.
- 1:59:07Speaker 2: I've got a nomination, but I want to hear the
- 1:59:09Speaker 2: list first.
- 1:59:10Speaker 8: The next one, again, is probably your go-to for last year.
- 1:59:14Speaker 8: The train scene from Super 8 is pretty awesome. I
- 1:59:18Speaker 8: can't argue that's pretty badass. And the last one, it's
- 1:59:23Speaker 8: sort of the underdog, but I really like this scene.
- 1:59:26Speaker 8: And we probably talked about it in the parking lot
- 1:59:28Speaker 8: for an hour and a half. The Eric Bana fight
- 1:59:31Speaker 8: versus the agents and Hannah in that parking garage. That's
- 1:59:36Speaker 8: a good scene. That's an amazing, well-shot action scene.
- 1:59:41Speaker 2: It's a well-shot... That was... I think I mentioned it
- 1:59:44Speaker 2: that night.
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that was my best, my favorite scene in that movie,
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: but it was a Jason Bourne moment.
- 1:59:51Speaker 8: Yeah, but that's really the only one we get out
- 1:59:54Speaker 8: of him. All the other ass-kicking is Hannah. So this
- 1:59:57Speaker 8: is the one time we kind of get to see
- 1:59:59Speaker 8: him in action, and he does not disappoint. It's a
- 2:00:01Speaker 8: badass scene.
- 2:00:03Speaker 2: Yeah, he needs more of that. I think he'd be
- 2:00:06Speaker 2: great at it.
- 2:00:07Speaker 8: I think so.
- 2:00:07Speaker 2: Plus, I think it was just shot well.
- 2:00:10Speaker 8: It wasn't just him. Yeah, if it were just that
- 2:00:12Speaker 8: scene done really... boring, yeah, I don't think it would
- 2:00:17Speaker 8: rescue it. I think it's the way that it was
- 2:00:19Speaker 8: shot that makes it that much better.
- 2:00:21Speaker 11: I'm kind of thinking the mechanic had something, but I
- 2:00:26Speaker 11: can't think which scene specifically I would.
- 2:00:29Speaker 2: That wasn't 2011. That's what I was trying to think.
- 2:00:32Speaker 8: Was that year before? No, it was 2011.
- 2:00:36Speaker 17: Really?
- 2:00:36Speaker 11: Yeah, it's just early on. Nobody remembers it because I
- 2:00:40Speaker 11: still haven't.
- 2:00:41Speaker 8: It's even started coming on now, and I keep looking
- 2:00:44Speaker 8: at it on cable going, I guess I'll get to
- 2:00:46Speaker 8: it eventually.
- 2:00:47Speaker 11: It had some cool, clever stuff in it, kind of
- 2:00:50Speaker 11: like in the professional, you know, just good.
- 2:00:54Speaker 8: He kills good? Yes, he does.
- 2:00:57Speaker 11: He had a good kill good in the beginning of
- 2:00:59Speaker 11: the movie, but I can't really think of the action
- 2:01:02Speaker 11: sequence that I would pick out, so I guess not.
- 2:01:08Speaker 2: I hate to sound like a real geek in this,
- 2:01:10Speaker 2: but the.
- 2:01:12Speaker 2: The Siege of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movie.
- 2:01:15Speaker 8: I've heard that, actually.
- 2:01:16Speaker 2: It's really one of the best parts of that entire series.
- 2:01:20Speaker 8: I've heard other geeks mention that, actually, so I won't
- 2:01:23Speaker 8: falter for that. Yeah, it... That was pretty cool.
- 2:01:26Speaker 1: You kind of get, like, now it feels like what
- 2:01:30Speaker 1: it should be.
- 2:01:31Speaker 2: You know, they.
- 2:01:32Speaker 8: Yeah, it's finally come around. So this last one of
- 2:01:37Speaker 8: the regular... Wow!
- 2:01:38Speaker 2: Do you want to mention? Meryl Streep.
- 2:01:41Speaker 8: Hmm.
- 2:01:42Speaker 19: One.
- 2:01:42Speaker 8: She won the best action sequence.
- 2:01:45Speaker 2: Best action sequence.
- 2:01:46Speaker 8: Interesting. It's about time. She kicked ass, man.
- 2:01:50Speaker 11: Some Nazi asked her to choose between her kids, and
- 2:01:54Speaker 11: she just beat the living fuck out of them.
- 2:01:56Speaker 8: There was this really cool shot that spun around, and
- 2:01:59Speaker 8: then she kicked them all in the head. She's like, oh,
- 2:02:01Speaker 8: I'm going to pick one. Oh, no, I'm not. Beats
- 2:02:06Speaker 8: the crap out of it. She goes like kicking him
- 2:02:09Speaker 8: down the road like he's a can. It was badass, Matt.
- 2:02:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:02:16Speaker 8: Amazing actress. Just her range.
- 2:02:19Speaker 3: Oh.
- 2:02:19Speaker 8: Mm-hmm. So this last category in this regular section here
- 2:02:26Speaker 8: is the only one that was sent in by one
- 2:02:29Speaker 8: of the listeners. The rest of this nonsense, either I
- 2:02:32Speaker 8: or you guys suggested. So this one is the dreariest
- 2:02:36Speaker 8: study of the human condition.
- 2:02:41Speaker 2: Oh, yay. Oh, I like this.
- 2:02:43Speaker 11: Oh, that's great.
- 2:02:44Speaker 8: That's great.
- 2:02:46Speaker 2: So.
- 2:02:46Speaker 8: I thought, once again, that's very fitting for us.
- 2:02:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:02:52Speaker 8: So the votes we have are The Road. Can't argue that.
- 2:02:58Speaker 11: Uh-huh.
- 2:02:59Speaker 2: Yogi Bear.
- 2:03:01Speaker 8: Can't argue that.
- 2:03:02Speaker 2: Wow, these are good nominees.
- 2:03:03Speaker 17: We have Glee 3D.
- 2:03:10Speaker 8: Or Bucky Larson.
- 2:03:11Speaker 2: Oh, I forgot that they even made that.
- 2:03:15Speaker 8: Oh, and Contagion.
- 2:03:17Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 2:03:19Speaker 8: I don't know what to do. They're all pretty grim. Oh,
- 2:03:24Speaker 8: I just like that category still. Across the board.
- 2:03:28Speaker 2: Good on you, Secret Circle member.
- 2:03:30Speaker 12: Yep.
- 2:03:30Speaker 8: Yeah, I saw The Road.
- 2:03:32Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 2:03:34Speaker 8: Yeah, you can tell it's going for that. People.
- 2:03:38Speaker 11: I think who've read the book think more highly of
- 2:03:41Speaker 11: it than I tend to. I haven't read the book,
- 2:03:45Speaker 11: but to me it kind of seems like an apocalyptic
- 2:03:50Speaker 11: zombie movie.
- 2:03:51Speaker 8: I don't see the literary... Without the zombies. Yeah. It
- 2:03:56Speaker 8: really is, actually.
- 2:03:58Speaker 2: But.
- 2:03:59Speaker 8: I'm kind of going for Yogi Bear. I don't know.
- 2:04:02Speaker 8: What do y'all think?
- 2:04:04Speaker 2: Did you see it?
- 2:04:04Speaker 8: No, I just liked the nomination. I'm basing it on
- 2:04:07Speaker 8: the trailer, and I'm already... It gets pretty dreary.
- 2:04:11Speaker 2: It's maybe the worst animated movie I've seen.
- 2:04:16Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:04:18Speaker 8: That's pretty bad.
- 2:04:19Speaker 2: Period at the end of that.
- 2:04:20Speaker 8: That's a different category. That's pretty bad.
- 2:04:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:04:23Speaker 1: It's... I can't believe somebody made it, and I can't believe,
- 2:04:27Speaker 1: I guarantee you they'll make a sequel out of it.
- 2:04:29Speaker 8: Oh, I'm sure.
- 2:04:29Speaker 2: Just because it's that bad.
- 2:04:31Speaker 11: Did you ever see Young Moby Dick, The Adventures of
- 2:04:34Speaker 11: Young Moby Dick? Because that sets the bar for animated
- 2:04:39Speaker 11: movies pretty high or low or somewhere.
- 2:04:43Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 2:04:44Speaker 9: I don't know. Hmm.
- 2:04:47Speaker 8: So yeah, that rounds out the regular categories.
- 2:04:50Speaker 2: I mean, it was made well. It was just shit.
- 2:04:55Speaker 11: I'm going to try to leave that.
- 2:04:59Speaker 8: Dreariness behind and go on to the last few in
- 2:05:03Speaker 8: the movie meltdown specific category. This one was the much-hyped
- 2:05:09Speaker 8: which celebrity would you most like Misty to punch in
- 2:05:11Speaker 8: the face? And this category was Misty approved. She specifically
- 2:05:16Speaker 8: liked this question. There's a shocker. So the options we have,
- 2:05:21Speaker 8: Will Ferrell for Land of the Lost. I think for
- 2:05:24Speaker 8: specifically messing up.
- 2:05:26Speaker 2: Land of the Lost. Was that last year?
- 2:05:28Speaker 8: I don't know. It feels like it's been a million
- 2:05:30Speaker 8: years ago. It might have been a million years. We
- 2:05:33Speaker 8: can say Will Ferrell in general, but I don't hate
- 2:05:36Speaker 8: him in general. That just seemed like a bad idea
- 2:05:39Speaker 8: for a movie.
- 2:05:41Speaker 2: I never liked The Land of the Lost.
- 2:05:43Speaker 8: I liked it, but again, I will not pretend like
- 2:05:46Speaker 8: it was a good show. I liked it because I
- 2:05:48Speaker 8: was a dumb kid, and I think Sleaze Stack are awesome.
- 2:05:51Speaker 8: That's pretty much it, really. I watched that show a lot.
- 2:05:55Speaker 11: I didn't see the movie. I just wasn't up to it.
- 2:05:58Speaker 11: I do think Will Ferrell is pretty amazing sometimes.
- 2:06:02Speaker 8: He's got moments.
- 2:06:04Speaker 11: Since SNL, uh wow and he did that everything must
- 2:06:10Speaker 11: go that was a oh bleak study of the human
- 2:06:15Speaker 11: condition but it was.
- 2:06:16Speaker 8: Fun it was fun.
- 2:06:18Speaker 1: Have you seen the one where uh it's it's the
- 2:06:22Speaker 1: homemade video or whatever.
- 2:06:24Speaker 2: Where it's.
- 2:06:26Speaker 1: His daughter is the landlord and comes to yell at
- 2:06:29Speaker 1: him about paying the rent, and he yells back at her.
- 2:06:33Speaker 8: That's pretty funny.
- 2:06:34Speaker 2: That's one of the best Will Ferrell moments I've seen. Lord.
- 2:06:39Speaker 8: So, who else could Misty punch in the face? The
- 2:06:42Speaker 8: other options we have, Snooki. Snooki. Who doesn't want to
- 2:06:46Speaker 8: punch Snooki? Now, this one, you might be going for
- 2:06:49Speaker 8: the wrong crowd. I'm thinking our best bet's Greg.
- 2:06:54Speaker 2: Tim.
- 2:06:55Speaker 8: Tebow?
- 2:06:55Speaker 2: Oh, a football player, yeah.
- 2:06:59Speaker 8: I had to check.
- 2:07:01Speaker 1: He's an ultra-Christian Bible thumper, and you could call into
- 2:07:10Speaker 1: question his talent.
- 2:07:12Speaker 3: Nice.
- 2:07:13Speaker 1: So, yeah, he's the pretty boy. Picture if Justin Bieber
- 2:07:22Speaker 1: were A football player and ultra right-wing Christian.
- 2:07:29Speaker 2: That's who Tim Tebow is. Nice.
- 2:07:32Speaker 8: This is quite a combination we've got going.
- 2:07:35Speaker 2: Yeah, just disgustingly perfect.
- 2:07:39Speaker 8: I'm sure, for those reasons alone, without knowing anything more,
- 2:07:43Speaker 8: Misty would like.
- 2:07:43Speaker 2: To punch him in the face. I would like for
- 2:07:45Speaker 2: Misty to punch him in the face.
- 2:07:47Speaker 8: But again, we've got the last option here, and Based
- 2:07:51Speaker 8: on the way this show has gone, sometimes just based
- 2:07:53Speaker 8: on history, you have to sort of lean towards one
- 2:07:55Speaker 8: of these. So the last one says... Edward and Bella
- 2:08:00Speaker 8: in that aura fuck those actors names I couldn't be
- 2:08:03Speaker 8: bothered again based on this show yeah she's gonna get
- 2:08:10Speaker 8: a little extra uh fun out of that anyway she.
- 2:08:13Speaker 2: Might even at that point she'd be like no not anymore.
- 2:08:17Speaker 8: She'll probably say line them all up she'll just take
- 2:08:19Speaker 8: them out so i thought that was pretty fun all
- 2:08:23Speaker 8: right um then then we went with more of the
- 2:08:25Speaker 8: specific movie we've done a lot of movie discussions and
- 2:08:31Speaker 8: um Yeah, I threw it out there and said, you know,
- 2:08:34Speaker 8: what was your favorite overall? Not just our random mention,
- 2:08:38Speaker 8: but the entire, you know, sofa theater kind of segment
- 2:08:41Speaker 8: that we did on a specific movie. And we got
- 2:08:46Speaker 8: a pretty big mixture here. I was surprised. Again, we've
- 2:08:49Speaker 8: got one that sort of gives a rundown of them.
- 2:08:53Speaker 8: So I'll come back to, I guess, what the vote
- 2:08:57Speaker 8: for the final one is. But before that, they say... Martin,
- 2:09:02Speaker 8: best dissection of actual film technique and theory. Splice, best
- 2:09:07Speaker 8: thanks guys, but I wish you'd covered it a little
- 2:09:09Speaker 8: sooner before I took my daughter to see it with
- 2:09:10Speaker 8: me to the theater review. Oh, wow.
- 2:09:13Speaker 22: Nice.
- 2:09:14Speaker 8: Summer School, best podosphere celebrity appearance by Katie. 999, best
- 2:09:20Speaker 8: back and forth Greg versus Brian dissection of art and
- 2:09:23Speaker 8: clay animation and philosophy episode.
- 2:09:26Speaker 2: That was a fun episode.
- 2:09:27Speaker 8: It kind of was. More than I expected out of
- 2:09:30Speaker 8: that movie.
- 2:09:30Speaker 24: Yeah.
- 2:09:32Speaker 8: Again, here we go. Drive Angry. Best Exploration of Misty's
- 2:09:37Speaker 8: Inner Rage. I don't think it's inner. I think it's
- 2:09:40Speaker 8: all over. It's very external.
- 2:09:45Speaker 11: She's all kittens and rainbows on the inside.
- 2:09:49Speaker 8: There's a little of that, but most of it's just
- 2:09:52Speaker 8: fire and hatred. So, State Clan. Best Whoa, Dude. That
- 2:09:58Speaker 8: was awesome discussion of an awesome film. Mm-hmm. Charlie Baric,
- 2:10:02Speaker 8: best review that made me stop playing the episode and
- 2:10:05Speaker 8: go view the film within eight hours and return to
- 2:10:07Speaker 8: finish the episode. There you go.
- 2:10:10Speaker 2: See, that says something.
- 2:10:11Speaker 8: That's pretty cool. We're winning people over.
- 2:10:13Speaker 2: That is one that you want to stop.
- 2:10:15Speaker 8: Yeah, you do need to go watch it. Somewhere in Time,
- 2:10:18Speaker 8: best conversation about a movie I couldn't begin to give
- 2:10:20Speaker 8: a shit about. creature from the black lagoon best fred's
- 2:10:26Speaker 8: verbal meandering of the year slash the best discussion about
- 2:10:29Speaker 8: baseline men's needs oh and black christmas best oh yeah
- 2:10:37Speaker 8: they deserve to die discussion but they rounded it out
- 2:10:41Speaker 8: with uh back to steak land i had a lot
- 2:10:45Speaker 8: invested in steak land and i like this reasoning again
- 2:10:49Speaker 8: it tells you a lot about this show It was
- 2:10:50Speaker 8: a rare discussion wherein you stayed on topic and didn't
- 2:10:53Speaker 8: get into porn shag carpeting or some other such delightful nonsense.
- 2:10:59Speaker 2: That's because it wasn't the normal cast.
- 2:11:01Speaker 8: That's what I was going to say. I think it's
- 2:11:02Speaker 8: because I wasn't there. I was like, let's identify what
- 2:11:06Speaker 8: was going on in the episode. Most of the people
- 2:11:09Speaker 8: weren't there, and one of them is somebody who's never
- 2:11:12Speaker 8: been on.
- 2:11:12Speaker 2: The show before. So, yeah, what does that tell you?
- 2:11:17Speaker 8: You whittle down the rest of the usual cast, you
- 2:11:19Speaker 8: might get a discussion that stays on topic. But, again, that's...
- 2:11:24Speaker 8: kind of how we operate.
- 2:11:25Speaker 2: So what they're saying is they don't want.
- 2:11:27Speaker 8: To listen to us. This is how we operate. I
- 2:11:30Speaker 8: think you have to sort of embrace that if you're
- 2:11:31Speaker 8: on board for the show. But the other options, that
- 2:11:35Speaker 8: was all, they sort of centered on Stakeland. We also
- 2:11:38Speaker 8: had one for Martin, Rockula, which really caught me off guard,
- 2:11:44Speaker 8: and Aliens. Okay. Oh, okay, yeah. You know, I can see.
- 2:11:49Speaker 16: The Rockula episode was fun.
- 2:11:50Speaker 2: It was a lot of fun. I didn't expect anybody
- 2:11:53Speaker 2: to go specifically with that one. I mean, we had
- 2:11:55Speaker 2: a lot of fun talking about it.
- 2:11:57Speaker 8: And again, for a movie that everybody kind of writes off,
- 2:12:00Speaker 8: I think we found some good stuff in there. It's
- 2:12:03Speaker 8: not detestable. It's just a silly 80s movie that got
- 2:12:07Speaker 8: held back a couple of years. But yeah, it's fun.
- 2:12:11Speaker 8: You just have to be in the right state of mind.
- 2:12:14Speaker 8: But yeah, again, I like that we had different answers
- 2:12:17Speaker 8: coming from a lot of different people. And yeah, sort
- 2:12:20Speaker 8: of across the board, people are enjoying different stuff.
- 2:12:23Speaker 6: So that's kind of cool.
- 2:12:26Speaker 8: So the last one was, what movie that Movie Meltdown
- 2:12:29Speaker 8: watched in 2011 would you be most embarrassed to tell
- 2:12:33Speaker 8: your friends you have actually seen?
- 2:12:37Speaker 2: Somewhere in Time?
- 2:12:39Speaker 8: The quote is, screw my friends, I'd have a hard
- 2:12:43Speaker 8: time looking myself in the mirror in the morning if
- 2:12:45Speaker 8: I sat through Somewhere in Time.
- 2:12:47Speaker 2: Nice.
- 2:12:49Speaker 8: In addition to that, we have votes for Police Academy.
- 2:12:53Speaker 2: Oh, that's a fun movie.
- 2:12:54Speaker 8: No, it's not.
- 2:12:55Speaker 4: No.
- 2:12:56Speaker 8: Have you watched it?
- 2:12:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I haven't watched it in a while. Sorry.
- 2:13:00Speaker 8: Yeah, I thought it was fun before I went back
- 2:13:02Speaker 8: and watched it. Michael Winslow's cool. It's pretty much all
- 2:13:07Speaker 8: I have to say. The other one, you'll like this one, Greg.
- 2:13:12Speaker 8: Red Riding Hood.
- 2:13:13Speaker 2: Hell yeah. Spiky trees are awesome.
- 2:13:16Speaker 8: You love that movie.
- 2:13:17Speaker 2: I love that movie.
- 2:13:20Speaker 8: And this one, I won't go so far as to
- 2:13:22Speaker 8: say embarrassed to admit myself, but this person felt Scream 4. Yeah.
- 2:13:28Speaker 2: Really?
- 2:13:29Speaker 8: I certainly don't have a problem with saying I'd seen it.
- 2:13:31Speaker 8: I even had a lot of fun discussing it for
- 2:13:35Speaker 8: a great length of time there.
- 2:13:36Speaker 2: So I think there's a lot of interesting stuff going
- 2:13:39Speaker 2: on there.
- 2:13:40Speaker 8: Certainly not a perfect film, but I liked the fact
- 2:13:45Speaker 8: that I'd seen it, and I think we got a
- 2:13:47Speaker 8: lot of good discussion out of it. You know? But yeah,
- 2:13:50Speaker 8: those are our embarrassed-to-admit movies.
- 2:13:53Speaker 2: I figured that Somewhere in Time was going to be the.
- 2:13:57Speaker 2: One that would come up.
- 2:13:59Speaker 8: Yeah, I've never seen that. So, ha-ha. Yeah. I don't
- 2:14:03Speaker 8: know what to tell you. It's well shot. It's dreamily romantic.
- 2:14:12Speaker 8: There's two hot people in it.
- 2:14:13Speaker 2: How about that?
- 2:14:14Speaker 8: Hot people going at it. I think that's all Doug meant.
- 2:14:19Speaker 8: Two attractive people going at it. What more do you want?
- 2:14:23Speaker 8: Can't argue, I suppose. Oh, more explosions, I guess.
- 2:14:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I like when stuff explodes.
- 2:14:32Speaker 8: Oh, Lord. Have we figured out who won all these
- 2:14:35Speaker 8: awards yet?
- 2:14:37Speaker 2: Yes. All of them?
- 2:14:40Speaker 8: Yes, Meryl Streep won all of them. Best film, Meryl Streep?
- 2:14:44Speaker 2: Best film, Meryl Streep.
- 2:14:45Speaker 8: Best picture, Meryl Streep.
- 2:14:47Speaker 2: Best actor in a film.
- 2:14:48Speaker 8: Best actor, Meryl Streep. You don't argue that. Let's see.
- 2:14:51Speaker 24: Uh.
- 2:14:53Speaker 11: No, I've only seen a couple. They have these different
- 2:14:57Speaker 11: feeds on here, and you can't really tell. You have
- 2:15:01Speaker 11: to switch around to find the one that has any
- 2:15:04Speaker 11: information on it.
- 2:15:06Speaker 8: It looks like they're filing out now.
- 2:15:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I think.
- 2:15:10Speaker 8: I figured it'd be about over by now.
- 2:15:12Speaker 2: The artist won for Best Picture.
- 2:15:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:15:15Speaker 8: Okay, wait, here's a list, I think. You guys at
- 2:15:18Speaker 8: home already know this, but for us, we're trying to
- 2:15:20Speaker 8: figure out what the finals here were. So, let's see.
- 2:15:23Speaker 8: The Artist for Best Picture. The Artist for Best Actor. No.
- 2:15:29Speaker 2: The Picture for Best Actor.
- 2:15:31Speaker 8: The Artist won Best Actor. We already said Meryl Streep
- 2:15:35Speaker 8: for Best Actress. Sporting Actor, Christopher Palmer. Octavia Spencer for
- 2:15:42Speaker 8: The Help.
- 2:15:43Speaker 6: I was sort of where everybody was leaning anyway.
- 2:15:47Speaker 8: Let's see. Best Director was The Artist. Best Documentary Undefeated.
- 2:15:53Speaker 8: Best Original Screenplay, Midnight in Paris.
- 2:15:56Speaker 17: Wow.
- 2:15:57Speaker 8: Really?
- 2:15:58Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 2:15:59Speaker 8: Really?
- 2:15:59Speaker 9: Yep.
- 2:16:00Speaker 8: I'm sorry, I'm going to say it one more time.
- 2:16:02Speaker 2: Really?
- 2:16:02Speaker 8: Let me check. Let me read here. Midnight in Paris. Winner.
- 2:16:07Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 2:16:08Speaker 11: Winner. Wow.
- 2:16:10Speaker 8: That's just.
- 2:16:12Speaker 11: I mean, I thought it was crazy that that was
- 2:16:14Speaker 11: even nominated for Best Picture.
- 2:16:16Speaker 8: And yet.
- 2:16:17Speaker 11: Come on.
- 2:16:19Speaker 8: It's cute, but come on. I don't know. That's probably
- 2:16:23Speaker 8: taking it too far. And I don't even hate it.
- 2:16:25Speaker 8: It's just not... Best adapted screenplay of The Descendants. I
- 2:16:30Speaker 8: had a lot of people saying they had issues with that, too.
- 2:16:33Speaker 8: So that's... That it's good, but it's not... Yeah, there's
- 2:16:37Speaker 8: issues with the story along the way. Ooh, best animated feature, Rango.
- 2:16:42Speaker 8: That's cool.
- 2:16:43Speaker 3: Rango.
- 2:16:43Speaker 8: Rango was great.
- 2:16:44Speaker 10: That's cool.
- 2:16:45Speaker 8: Did you happen to see it? No, I just, everything
- 2:16:47Speaker 8: I've heard is good.
- 2:16:48Speaker 2: It's a lot of fun.
- 2:16:50Speaker 8: I figured it'd go to Puss in Boots or something.
- 2:16:53Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 2:16:54Speaker 8: That's pretty cool.
- 2:16:55Speaker 7: No.
- 2:16:55Speaker 2: No, yeah, Rango was a lot of fun.
- 2:16:58Speaker 8: Best cinematography, Hugo. That's probably deserved. It's probably the only
- 2:17:03Speaker 8: one that wrestled away from the artist. Film editing, Girl
- 2:17:07Speaker 8: with the Dragon Tattoo.
- 2:17:08Speaker 2: What was it?
- 2:17:09Speaker 8: No, best art direction, Hugo, as well. Wow. Costume designs,
- 2:17:13Speaker 8: the artist. Sound mixing, Hugo. It's getting the technical awards, yeah.
- 2:17:19Speaker 8: Best visual effects, Hugo. Best makeup, Hugo.
- 2:17:22Speaker 11: Oh, yeah, once you get into the technical awards.
- 2:17:23Speaker 8: Yeah, it's pretty technical.
- 2:17:26Speaker 6: So, yeah, I think that's about it.
- 2:17:28Speaker 8: Who got best picture of Al?
- 2:17:32Speaker 11: A couple of black maids who tell their story.
- 2:17:36Speaker 6: To the artist.
- 2:17:37Speaker 8: It's the damnedest thing.
- 2:17:39Speaker 2: Best picture, yeah, of making us feel better about racism.
- 2:17:45Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 2:17:45Speaker 11: See, I don't think that movie really makes anybody feel
- 2:17:48Speaker 11: much better about anything.
- 2:17:50Speaker 8: I really question that. It really doesn't.
- 2:17:55Speaker 11: I mean, it's like, okay, they get to tell their stories,
- 2:17:58Speaker 11: but it's not really, it doesn't have like this reassuring effect. Like,
- 2:18:02Speaker 11: this is okay kind of moment.
- 2:18:04Speaker 8: It doesn't fix anything. It's just stating that it all happened.
- 2:18:07Speaker 11: I don't think it claims that it really fixed anything.
- 2:18:11Speaker 11: It's sort of like it worked out well for that
- 2:18:14Speaker 11: young journalist chick.
- 2:18:15Speaker 8: Yeah, the white girl. Yeah, fine. Damn white people.
- 2:18:20Speaker 11: And there were some off moments, but I don't know.
- 2:18:26Speaker 11: I noticed those actresses, they were on the Tavis Smiley show,
- 2:18:31Speaker 11: and he was sort of like, attacking you know and
- 2:18:34Speaker 11: he made some points about some other films like you
- 2:18:37Speaker 11: know you'll see movies like uh the malcolm x biography
- 2:18:41Speaker 11: you'll see all kinds of but what hollywood will recognize
- 2:18:47Speaker 11: is always going to be the movies like like this
- 2:18:51Speaker 11: yeah you know um which about you know uh powerless
- 2:18:57Speaker 11: people who Doing the.
- 2:18:59Speaker 8: Best they can, but that doesn't make it really.
- 2:19:02Speaker 11: And the actresses argued with him, and they didn't really
- 2:19:05Speaker 11: seem to be talking about exactly the same thing. They
- 2:19:08Speaker 11: were talking about, you know, well, when you're an artist,
- 2:19:11Speaker 11: you don't want to play somebody who's two-dimensionally heroic. But
- 2:19:16Speaker 11: I don't think the Malcolm X movie.
- 2:19:21Speaker 11: They were sort of arguing about different things.
- 2:19:23Speaker 8: But I guess.
- 2:19:25Speaker 11: feel like it's not really a damnable movie. It's just
- 2:19:29Speaker 11: not really all that great. It is a little bit
- 2:19:32Speaker 11: of a formulaic movie. It's just not one of the
- 2:19:36Speaker 11: worst ones. It's careful about what it claims to be achieving.
- 2:19:43Speaker 8: I mean, you could say that about Huck Finn.
- 2:19:45Speaker 11: You could say that's white people solving racism.
- 2:19:49Speaker 8: Well, usually they just take the safe road. is when
- 2:19:52Speaker 8: it comes to the Oscars. I mean, look, one of
- 2:19:55Speaker 8: the best examples of that, like the year that Do
- 2:19:58Speaker 8: the Right Thing came out, they gave the best picture
- 2:20:00Speaker 8: to Driving Miss Daisy. You know, it's like they got
- 2:20:04Speaker 8: the same thing working there, but they're like, let's go
- 2:20:07Speaker 8: the safe road. You know, let's go the one that
- 2:20:09Speaker 8: doesn't push.
- 2:20:12Speaker 15: I.
- 2:20:12Speaker 11: Just don't think it's really fair to hang all of
- 2:20:14Speaker 11: that on this particular movie, which isn't really one of
- 2:20:18Speaker 11: the more glaring examples of I don't know, they keep
- 2:20:23Speaker 11: bringing up the Gone With the Wind Oscar win for
- 2:20:26Speaker 11: the maid. What's her name?
- 2:20:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I forget her name.
- 2:20:33Speaker 8: But I don't know.
- 2:20:34Speaker 11: It's just a little overworked, the whole politics. Because you
- 2:20:39Speaker 11: don't want to have to do image awards when you're
- 2:20:42Speaker 11: doing best picture. That's not what it's about, is trying
- 2:20:47Speaker 11: to show any particular people at their best. It's about
- 2:20:51Speaker 11: You know, trying to show people, tell stories.
- 2:20:55Speaker 8: Again, it all becomes political anyway. And everything is won
- 2:21:00Speaker 8: for a specific reason or gets nominated for a specific reason.
- 2:21:04Speaker 8: So it's not the art in a vacuum situation that
- 2:21:08Speaker 8: it should be. Everything's sort of acted upon by outside forces.
- 2:21:11Speaker 8: So it's a nice idea.
- 2:21:14Speaker 1: You almost wish the votes were in a vacuum where,
- 2:21:18Speaker 1: you know... the people voting don't have access to the press.
- 2:21:25Speaker 2: This isn't impossible. Oh, I know. But the people voting,
- 2:21:29Speaker 2: it's almost as if they had....
- 2:21:34Speaker 1: Placebo votes, and only a certain percentage really were the voters.
- 2:21:37Speaker 8: But then you'd also have to disconnect because everybody voting
- 2:21:41Speaker 8: is also in the industry.
- 2:21:43Speaker 6: Right.
- 2:21:43Speaker 8: Which you could never. So you would have to take
- 2:21:45Speaker 8: people completely detached from the industry and then sequester them
- 2:21:49Speaker 8: their entire lives.
