- 0:11Speaker 1: Oh you, Demanda Bote already did.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Last year, after our first trip to Rome to
- 0:17Speaker 2: investigate this case, I told Lee Clark about how he'd
- 0:20Speaker 2: spoken to several members of Brian Bowling's family, including Brian's
- 0:24Speaker 2: sister Amanda. Oh no, she was really nice and helpful,
- 0:32Speaker 2: and she wanted to tell someone about her brother. She
- 0:35Speaker 2: wants her brother's story to be told. Lee asked me
- 0:39Speaker 2: if Amanda thought that he had killed Brian. Yes, I
- 0:42Speaker 2: told him she does, even after all these years in prison.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Lee seemed kind of surprised every time I had to
- 0:48Speaker 2: tell him this that someone had spoken to had in
- 0:50Speaker 2: fact believed he was guilty.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know what lay about. I'll let's of
- 0:56Speaker 1: you now. I don't say anybody down there at the
- 1:01Speaker 1: house at night. I see how they at anybody complete
- 1:04Speaker 1: that I was outside. I just don't make no sense
- 1:06Speaker 1: to me.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Well, Brian's family never got closure because they still don't.
- 1:12Speaker 2: None of them feel like they know what happened.
- 1:16Speaker 1: No, they don't. But I'll tell you this right here, Susan,
- 1:18Speaker 1: don't for one second on everything that I don't feel.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Simp you do for them for them losing her son,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I do, my heart goes out to them. It really does.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I mean, I can't imagine what it's like to sit
- 1:28Speaker 1: here and have somebody that you love to lose them
- 1:31Speaker 1: to such a young age. My heart pours out to them.
- 1:34Speaker 1: What they don't realize is I'll sit behind these walls
- 1:37Speaker 1: for all these years and that stuff. It's at at
- 1:40Speaker 1: least to sit there and know if Brian is dead
- 1:44Speaker 1: here he's here, is it's gone at a young age,
- 1:46Speaker 1: never had a chance to leave his life. But the
- 1:48Speaker 1: same way, they haven't had to get closer because they
- 1:51Speaker 1: don't know what went on in their room. Well, I'm
- 1:53Speaker 1: in the same I'm in the same shoes there. I
- 1:56Speaker 1: want some closure for myself too. The problem the probably
- 2:01Speaker 1: get all kinds of shilp in their mind. They've probably
- 2:02Speaker 1: naked and I got a lot of heelpen and thorn
- 2:04Speaker 1: and I don't. But it would mean the world to
- 2:07Speaker 1: me for one day, for minded even love me and
- 2:09Speaker 1: I her and fail me if she knows if I
- 2:13Speaker 1: didn't have anything to do with anything to happen with
- 2:15Speaker 1: her brother.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Hi.
- 2:23Speaker 2: My name is Susan Simpson. I'm an attorney and podcaster.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Hi.
- 2:28Speaker 5: I'm just in to Davis and I'm a true crime
- 2:31Speaker 5: TV producer. Last year, Susan and I decided to team
- 2:35Speaker 5: up and reinvestigate the murder of Brian Bowling. Along with
- 2:39Speaker 5: Kevin Fitzpatrick, president of Red Marble Media, we decided to
- 2:42Speaker 5: launch Proof. You can listen to Proof like you would
- 2:46Speaker 5: any podcast, and you can follow us everywhere with the
- 2:49Speaker 5: handle at proofcrime pod and on our website proofcrimepod dot com.
- 2:56Speaker 2: For this episode of Proof, we have accompanying videos that
- 2:59Speaker 2: you won't on a miss. You can check them out
- 3:01Speaker 2: on our YouTube page or linked on social media. Wrongful
- 3:18Speaker 2: convictions don't just affect those who have been wrongfully convicted.
- 3:21Speaker 2: These cases have deep and traumatic impacts in the wider
- 3:23Speaker 2: community around them, including especially on crime victims and their families, who,
- 3:28Speaker 2: when they find out that the criminal justice system never
- 3:31Speaker 2: given the answers that they thought they'd found, are victimized
- 3:34Speaker 2: for a second time. Most of the time, for the
- 3:37Speaker 2: families of victims, the process of coming to terms with
- 3:40Speaker 2: a wrongful conviction doesn't begin after there's been in its honeration,
- 3:44Speaker 2: until after the legal systems declared that someone innocent was
- 3:47Speaker 2: convicted of the crime, which is why I have surprised
- 3:50Speaker 2: when a few weeks back, Brian's uncle, Michael Baker sent
- 3:53Speaker 2: me a message. Do you think it'd be possible for
- 3:56Speaker 2: me to meet with Glenn Clark? He asked, We asked
- 3:59Speaker 2: Glenn thought about the idea. He was open to it,
- 4:02Speaker 2: but also hesitant. I think he was a little nervous,
- 4:06Speaker 2: even though he told us he wasn't.
- 4:09Speaker 5: Were you worried, though?
- 4:10Speaker 6: Are you worried about what.
- 4:12Speaker 2: They might want to say to you?
- 4:14Speaker 6: I ain't nothing say that I can't answer. I don't
- 4:16Speaker 6: care what it is.
- 4:17Speaker 4: They ain't nothing, adn't say that I can't answer for them.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Not long after I'd gotten the message from Brian's uncle,
- 4:26Speaker 2: Amanda sent a message to Glenn via Facebook.
- 4:34Speaker 5: Do you still have the message that Amanda sent you?
- 4:37Speaker 5: Would you mind meeting it to us?
- 4:40Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 4:40Speaker 6: I read it to you. It says, mister Clark.
- 4:44Speaker 4: I would like to start off by saying I am
- 4:47Speaker 4: truly sorry from the bottom of my heart, and so
- 4:51Speaker 4: about the last twenty five years.
- 4:54Speaker 7: Lay deserves to be home. He should have never been
- 4:58Speaker 7: charged or in prison. I pray Lee can't forgive me
- 5:02Speaker 7: one day for believe in what Dallas told us. I
- 5:07Speaker 7: have been praying so hard for God to help me
- 5:09Speaker 7: with this my mind and my heart has changed how
- 5:14Speaker 7: I feel Lee had nothing to do with my brother's death.
- 5:19Speaker 7: There is no way I can ever make it up
- 5:22Speaker 7: to Lee or you for the past twenty five years.
- 5:26Speaker 7: I pray you all can't forgive me and my family.
- 5:30Speaker 7: I just wanted to tell you this and if you
- 5:32Speaker 7: could please.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Read this Lee and tell him I am so sorry
- 5:37Speaker 4: and I pray he gets to get set free. If
- 5:41Speaker 4: there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Prayer to Brain's stuff. Brain's family and King's family hadding
- 5:58Speaker 5: on one another Kane's conviction. They continue to be in
- 6:02Speaker 5: touch from time to time, no matter how strange those
- 6:05Speaker 5: interactions might have been. But Brian's family and Lee's family
- 6:10Speaker 5: had never met. The only time they'd ever laid eyes
- 6:14Speaker 5: on one another had been at the courthouse during Lee's
- 6:16Speaker 5: and Kane's trial. In fact, before Amanda sent her message
- 6:21Speaker 5: to Lee's dad, the two families had never contacted one another.
- 6:27Speaker 6: It took a lot for her to do that. I'm
- 6:30Speaker 6: just telling you I didn't.
- 6:33Speaker 4: I didn't respond to that because it's hard for me
- 6:37Speaker 4: to respond and show feeding on a text. I ain't
- 6:40Speaker 4: a texture. I'm a talker, but that was real sweet
- 6:45Speaker 4: for her to do that.
- 6:45Speaker 7: Okay, she says, she hopes you can forgive her.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Does she need forgive her?
- 6:49Speaker 6: Care herd I gave her. I love her.
- 6:51Speaker 4: She was done wrong, you know. And I'm not saying
- 6:54Speaker 4: that they owed me anything. They did not.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Susan, Kevin and I traveled down to Rome, Georgia and
- 7:03Speaker 5: arranged for Glenn to meet with Michael and Amanda at
- 7:06Speaker 5: Glenn's church in Cave Spring.
- 7:14Speaker 4: My heart was heavy for me, you know, because I
- 7:16Speaker 4: know they're going through the hard time. I want to
- 7:18Speaker 4: talk to him. I love to talk to him to
- 7:21Speaker 4: just let them know that I have no hard feelings
- 7:24Speaker 4: told them whatsoever. You know what I'm saying.
- 7:27Speaker 5: Are you ready?
- 7:28Speaker 6: Oh yeah, all right, let's do this. I'm ready. Swee.
- 7:46Speaker 6: I read what you put on Facebook. I pray for you.
- 7:52Speaker 6: Lord take care of everything.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Okay, We'll put all our faith in him, He take
- 7:57Speaker 4: care of the rest.
- 7:59Speaker 6: Thank you so much, I say, man, let's see you. Man,
- 8:06Speaker 6: I've never got to meet neither want you'll never meet you.
- 8:10Speaker 6: I kind of feel bad.
- 8:11Speaker 2: About that, really bad about that.
- 8:14Speaker 8: We've really wanted to meet with you and talk with you.
- 8:18Speaker 8: The other side of the story finally after all these years,
- 8:23Speaker 8: and honestly, we're on your side.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Man.
- 8:25Speaker 8: We praise Yeah, we know that he's innocent. A lot
- 8:28Speaker 8: of people's not been truthful. We want to do what
- 8:31Speaker 8: we could do to help you and to help Lee
- 8:34Speaker 8: and to get him out of this mess. Like I said,
- 8:37Speaker 8: after all this, we agree on thousand percent over that
- 8:40Speaker 8: Lee had nothing to do with it.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 8:48Speaker 5: The members of Brian's family that we spoke to all
- 8:51Speaker 5: agreed to be interviewed for this podcast. They wanted Brian's
- 8:55Speaker 5: story to be told, but this hasn't been an easy
- 8:58Speaker 5: process for them.
- 9:00Speaker 6: How difficult had there last few.
- 9:02Speaker 8: Months then it has been difficult to listen to it,
- 9:05Speaker 8: kind of reliving the whole thing again. We went through
- 9:09Speaker 8: this year's you know, a couple of years before the trial,
- 9:11Speaker 8: just pure hell. I mean, we're open to opening our
- 9:15Speaker 8: wounds again just for the real true answers, and we
- 9:18Speaker 8: don't want anyone that sent us it to be in jail,
- 9:21Speaker 8: and we feelt guilt for that.
- 9:25Speaker 7: It's a hard process and I've impressed and Reform that
- 9:30Speaker 7: your family has been so open to this process because
- 9:32Speaker 7: it's hard.
- 9:33Speaker 6: It is hard.
- 9:34Speaker 2: It is very hard, very hard, but.
- 9:37Speaker 8: We're doing it for the whole family. You know, my sister,
- 9:40Speaker 8: her and her husband both had passed my mother and father.
- 9:45Speaker 8: But that's all we've been looking for as answers.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Listening to this podcast reopened old wounds for Brian's family,
- 9:54Speaker 5: but it also opened entirely new ones. They learned that
- 9:58Speaker 5: the justice they thought had been obtained in this case
- 10:01Speaker 5: had it been justice at all, and that as a
- 10:04Speaker 5: result of Brian's tragic death, two of his friends have
- 10:08Speaker 5: been wrongfully taken from their families and sent to prison
- 10:12Speaker 5: for the past twenty five years.
- 10:21Speaker 8: We definitely sincere from bottom of our heart's apologize. We
- 10:27Speaker 8: feel somewhat it fault for it, but we hope you
- 10:30Speaker 8: understand it was what we were being fed from the
- 10:33Speaker 8: police department. Yeah, and from all the rumors, and we're
- 10:38Speaker 8: glad after all these years to discover the truth.
- 10:44Speaker 4: Well answer prayer, my friend, I've been praying for it
- 10:47Speaker 4: for a long long time. How you have some and
- 10:52Speaker 4: I hated that y'all been put through what y'all been
- 10:54Speaker 4: put through, and my mind, I thank you for what
- 10:57Speaker 4: you sent out to me and it meant a lot
- 10:59Speaker 4: to me.
- 11:00Speaker 6: And I did read that to Lee and he was
- 11:05Speaker 6: he was choked up. Baby. He was. He was, he
- 11:07Speaker 6: really was. And I'll tell y'all both it. He don't.
- 11:11Speaker 6: He don't have no hard feeding toward y'all.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Glenn says that when this first happened twenty five years ago,
- 11:17Speaker 5: he did have mixed feelings about the bullyings and what
- 11:20Speaker 5: had happened to his son A.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Long long time ago, long time ago, when all this
- 11:25Speaker 4: first went down.
- 11:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I had some mixed feelings.
- 11:28Speaker 4: You know, you know, you know, I actually you know,
- 11:33Speaker 4: and you know, he said, Diddy, he said, you know,
- 11:35Speaker 4: it's we didn't do it.
- 11:37Speaker 6: He said, we didn't do it, you know. And uh,
- 11:40Speaker 6: with all this.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Stuff going on, with battles and all this, and he
- 11:43Speaker 4: feeding y'all all this stuff, and I understand, Hey, i'd
- 11:45Speaker 4: have been a slave boy.
- 11:47Speaker 6: I would have been. I mean, you don't you didn't
- 11:49Speaker 6: know who Lee was.
- 11:51Speaker 5: Glenn came to realize, though, that Brian's family had also
- 11:54Speaker 5: been victims of the investigation that was done in this case.
- 11:59Speaker 4: He said, two young boys off of prison for something
- 12:02Speaker 4: they didn't even do, and they destroyed this family right here.
- 12:06Speaker 4: I mean, they took something from them and stuff. It's
- 12:09Speaker 4: going to Hey, look here, everything's going after everything's gone,
- 12:13Speaker 4: they still I.
- 12:14Speaker 6: Still gotta live with it. They gotta live with it.
- 12:18Speaker 6: Uh yeah, I'm gonna live with it.
- 12:21Speaker 4: But to me, mine's not as bad as theirs. Even
- 12:24Speaker 4: though my son been locked up twenty five years. My
- 12:27Speaker 4: son will get to come home Brian, ain't.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I want you to know how sorry and deeply sorry
- 12:34Speaker 3: I am for every doubt and listening to the colts.
- 12:39Speaker 3: I mean, you know, we're supposed to be able to
- 12:42Speaker 3: trust them, you know, and they're not supposed to.
- 12:45Speaker 6: Do us like that.
- 12:47Speaker 3: So I blame I blame the system. I blame the Dallas.
- 12:51Speaker 6: It was a different for me, But it's just the
- 12:54Speaker 6: way that they use y'all to do what.
- 12:57Speaker 4: They do, what you want to do, get y'all think,
- 13:00Speaker 4: and hey, look, yeah he done it. He needs to
- 13:02Speaker 4: go with prison, this and that.
- 13:03Speaker 6: Yeah, And that's all that was. And it been the
- 13:07Speaker 6: same way it had been on myself.
- 13:14Speaker 5: When Cain and Lee were convicted, Brian's family had not
- 13:17Speaker 5: doubted that they were guilty of conspiring to murder Brian,
- 13:21Speaker 5: but at the same time, they'd always been hesitant about
- 13:25Speaker 5: some aspects of the prosecution's case. Take, for instance, the
- 13:30Speaker 5: theory that Brian had been murdered because of the Freebird gang.
- 13:34Speaker 5: As Glenn pointed out during the meeting with Brian's family,
- 13:38Speaker 5: it was the centerpiece of the prosecution's.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Case, and the disc attorney says, look, and he said,
- 13:46Speaker 4: disinclosed arm.
- 13:47Speaker 6: We're going to set as an example here.
- 13:49Speaker 8: Today that we're not gonna take gangs.
- 13:51Speaker 6: If Floacan were not tolerant gangs. There ain't no gang,
- 13:55Speaker 6: ain't no gang. But what he did, he puts in
- 13:57Speaker 6: the jurorsm in they're head Oh yeah, yeah.
- 14:02Speaker 8: So there was a group of kids, just a group
- 14:05Speaker 8: of boys, And I never believed for one minute about
- 14:07Speaker 8: a gang. They've wasted us over and over about games.
- 14:12Speaker 8: We got to tell them, you know, it's just a
- 14:13Speaker 8: group of kids.
- 14:16Speaker 2: The gaps and inconsistencies in the prosecution's case meant that
- 14:19Speaker 2: even though Brian's family got the verdict that they believed
- 14:21Speaker 2: to be just, there'd been no sense of closure for them.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Y'all didn't ever get an answer. It never really was
- 14:31Speaker 2: totally resolved for you, y'all.
- 14:35Speaker 6: Y'all never was at peace with.
- 14:37Speaker 8: It, even on behalf of my sister Deborah, Brian's mom.
- 14:41Speaker 8: You know, her and her husband both have passed away,
- 14:43Speaker 8: but even after the trial, she still sleeeked the truth.
- 14:47Speaker 6: From then on.
- 14:48Speaker 8: So I know in my heart that she knew in
- 14:52Speaker 8: her heart that something wasn't right well while we were
- 14:55Speaker 8: being fed and she went to her grave trying to figure.
- 14:58Speaker 6: Out a man. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 15:01Speaker 8: Yeah, I know she's here with us, amen, and I
- 15:05Speaker 8: know she knows that we're doing the right thing.
- 15:08Speaker 2: The lingering uncertainties about some aspects of the state's case
- 15:11Speaker 2: had been one of the reasons why when we'd asked
- 15:13Speaker 2: to interview them for this podcast, Bryan's family had agreed.
- 15:17Speaker 8: That's kind of why we've been so open to all
- 15:18Speaker 8: of this, because we wanted to know the truth. That's
- 15:22Speaker 8: kind of why we're listening, you know, to the whole
- 15:25Speaker 8: podcast to kind of get to the other side of
- 15:27Speaker 8: the story, because you know, we'd never heard from Lee
- 15:30Speaker 8: or your family, and very little from the stories, you know,
- 15:34Speaker 8: so we just wanted to make sure that all the
- 15:38Speaker 8: truth was out there and for us to make up
- 15:40Speaker 8: our mind you know what truly happened, because, like I said,
- 15:43Speaker 8: for years and years ever since, you know, all the years,
- 15:47Speaker 8: we just didn't feel right that it was the truth.
- 15:50Speaker 8: There's still something missing.
- 15:54Speaker 2: The whole process of participating in and then listening to
- 15:57Speaker 2: the podcast has probably been hardest on the ada. For weeks,
- 16:02Speaker 2: she'd be up at five am every Monday to listen
- 16:04Speaker 2: to the newest episode as soon as it was released.
- 16:08Speaker 2: At first, hearing Kin and Lee deny that they had
- 16:11Speaker 2: murdered her brother had been upsetting, But then listening to
- 16:14Speaker 2: the podcast started to become difficult for a different reason.
- 16:18Speaker 3: When this podcast come out, it really really took a
- 16:21Speaker 3: toll on me, because, you know, I felt bad for
- 16:24Speaker 3: believing that for twenty five years.
- 16:27Speaker 2: You know, but when we first talked to you, I
- 16:29Speaker 2: remember being struck by how little you and Kenneth knew,
- 16:32Speaker 2: how little had ever been shared with you.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Yeah, we was kind of shielded from it.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Week by week, as she listened to the podcast, Amanda
- 16:43Speaker 5: started to realize that what she thought she knew about
- 16:45Speaker 5: the case, what she'd been told about the case all
- 16:48Speaker 5: those years ago, was not necessarily the reality of what
- 16:52Speaker 5: had happened.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it takes a lot to convince somebody
- 17:00Speaker 3: thing that they thought of for so long. It's hard
- 17:03Speaker 3: to convince them that something really didn't happen.
- 17:07Speaker 5: I was hoping Amanda Michael, if you could talk to
- 17:11Speaker 5: Glenn a little bit about your personal process of changing
- 17:15Speaker 5: your minds, your hearts, about what happened and how how
- 17:19Speaker 5: that's been for you.
- 17:21Speaker 3: It's been. It's been rough, you know it. I I
- 17:26Speaker 3: spent many a night on my knees praying because you know,
- 17:30Speaker 3: I always thought that he did right, you know, And
- 17:35Speaker 3: I've been praying, and you know that's helped me get through.
- 17:39Speaker 3: This is praying, mm I pray now without that, I
- 17:44Speaker 3: just I'm not too sure. But whenever all this has
- 17:51Speaker 3: come out about Dallas, it's when my whole outlook changed
- 17:56Speaker 3: when I heard and seeing the things that he had done.
- 18:03Speaker 5: In the lead up to the trial, investigators had been
- 18:06Speaker 5: telling Brian's family that they had solid proof that Lee
- 18:09Speaker 5: had been at the Bowlings trailer that night and they
- 18:13Speaker 5: had no reason to doubt this.
- 18:16Speaker 8: The only thing we could go on was the Charlie
- 18:19Speaker 8: Childer's statement, which was long after the fact as well.
- 18:22Speaker 8: Yeah but yeah, kind of the turning point was a
- 18:26Speaker 8: lot of things on the podcast. They kept telling us
- 18:29Speaker 8: that they sent his body to the crime lab. We
- 18:32Speaker 8: were told that from the funeral home was William's. The
- 18:36Speaker 8: police apartment corner. Just a lot of the lies, I
- 18:39Speaker 8: mean just didn't never add up. You know, it's just
- 18:44Speaker 8: hearing the podcast and hearing the lies, corruption from the
- 18:47Speaker 8: police apartment, things.
- 18:48Speaker 6: We were told.
- 18:48Speaker 8: Kind of piecing it back together showing that they were
- 18:52Speaker 8: just not being truthful with us is what got me
- 18:55Speaker 8: to open my eyes and heart. But like I said,
- 18:57Speaker 8: we went into this podcast wanting to know the truth,
- 19:01Speaker 8: warning answers. That's what we've been looking for for, like
- 19:03Speaker 8: I said, twenty five years, And like I said, my sister,
- 19:06Speaker 8: you know, they went my mom, they went to their
- 19:08Speaker 8: grave trying to search for the answers pleasure to hear.
- 19:13Speaker 8: We're thankful to finally get them.
- 19:16Speaker 3: I felt dumb on my part for believing them, but
- 19:21Speaker 3: you know I can't take that bag. But I can
- 19:24Speaker 3: go forward now, ma'am. Just do what I can to
- 19:29Speaker 3: help both of them.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Don't feel dumb for believing the detectives who are responsible
- 19:35Speaker 2: for that's right. And I will say, from the very
- 19:41Speaker 2: first time we met you, I was impressed and grateful
- 19:45Speaker 2: about how open you were, how much you wanted to
- 19:49Speaker 2: find the truth.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Yeah, that's all I wanted to know. That's all we
- 19:53Speaker 3: all wanted to know. We wanted the truth to come out,
- 19:58Speaker 3: and it's finally coming out. But we still will never
- 20:01Speaker 3: know exactly what happened in that room, but we know
- 20:06Speaker 3: it was not intentionally.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Brian's family does not believe that Lee was involved in
- 20:16Speaker 2: any way with Brian's death, but Lee's co defendent Cain's
- 20:20Speaker 2: story indisputably was involved and to some degree responsible for
- 20:24Speaker 2: what happened to Brian.
- 20:25Speaker 5: I wonder now what your feelings are at this point
- 20:28Speaker 5: about Cain and his involvement or Josh. I'm sorry, I
- 20:31Speaker 5: know you guys call him Josh.
- 20:33Speaker 8: Well, I mean, I still kind of wonder you know
- 20:38Speaker 8: exactly what happened. I know for sure that Lee's not
- 20:41Speaker 8: involved for as Kine or Josh, just from hearing the
- 20:48Speaker 8: copterdicting stories. And then, like I said, when he met
- 20:51Speaker 8: me at the door, seeing that, you know he didn't
- 20:53Speaker 8: mean to shoot him. I'm not sure if it was
- 20:56Speaker 8: an accident or I'm not sure if it's suicide. I
- 20:59Speaker 8: wouldn't to talk to Kane as well, you know, to here.
- 21:07Speaker 2: As Kane himself acknowledges it was his actions that night
- 21:10Speaker 2: that led to Brian's death.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I had no business down there with this gone, and
- 21:18Speaker 1: I had no business playing in Russian Roulette, and I
- 21:20Speaker 1: had no business allowing bi to do what he did,
- 21:23Speaker 1: not need anything, and for bad I thought.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Kane says it was Brian who fired the shot that night,
- 21:30Speaker 2: but Kan also acknowledges that he brought the gun and
- 21:33Speaker 2: the bullet to Brian's bedroom and gave them both to Brian,
- 21:37Speaker 2: and that he too was playing Russian Roulette with Brian
- 21:39Speaker 2: before the fatal shot was fired, even if at first
- 21:42Speaker 2: the two of them have been cheating at the game.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Well.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Brian's family remains unsure about what exactly went down in
- 21:47Speaker 2: Brian's bedroom. The exact details are less important to them
- 21:50Speaker 2: now than is the knowledge that whatever happened, it was
- 21:53Speaker 2: no murder conspiracy.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Either Brian accidentally hisself or Josh accidentally shot Brian. You know,
- 22:03Speaker 3: either way, it's was an accident.
- 22:06Speaker 8: I'm not sure if it was suicide or if it
- 22:08Speaker 8: was an accidental shooting, but I definitely do not think
- 22:11Speaker 8: it was on purpose. That he had no kind of
- 22:13Speaker 8: intentions to harming Brian at all, And either way, you know,
- 22:18Speaker 8: I forgive him either way, in my opinion, he's served
- 22:22Speaker 8: more than enough time as well, you know, even if
- 22:24Speaker 8: it was an accidental shooting.
- 22:27Speaker 2: If you ever wanted to talk to Canamandas or Josh, yeah.
- 22:32Speaker 4: I do.
- 22:34Speaker 2: He's really struggled in prison. He's had a real hard
- 22:37Speaker 2: I know Lee has two, but yeah, he's.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I know it's been hard. I know. I mean, I
- 22:44Speaker 3: can't put myself there, but I can only imagine what
- 22:50Speaker 3: it's been like for them. I'm sure it's been.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Pure hades for them, and that from talking to both
- 22:57Speaker 2: of them. I mean, you've heard a lot from Lee,
- 22:59Speaker 2: but Josh has just giving up hope, and.
- 23:02Speaker 3: I could tell, I can really tell he just give up.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Really, he agreed to talk to me, but the sort
- 23:08Speaker 2: of since every time I've talked to him is like,
- 23:11Speaker 2: why bother, what's the point?
- 23:13Speaker 3: Like he don't have no hope?
- 23:15Speaker 6: That's right, but he needs to.
- 23:18Speaker 2: He needs to have hope, and it's a hard it's
- 23:20Speaker 2: a different situation. I do feel confident that whatever happened,
- 23:24Speaker 2: he never meant for Brian to die.
- 23:25Speaker 3: No, he didn't, I know he didn't. It was a
- 23:30Speaker 3: complete accident. And I forgive Josh, you know, for bringing
- 23:34Speaker 3: the gun in, you know, and I know that's what
- 23:37Speaker 3: he feels so guilty for. And then having to watch
- 23:40Speaker 3: Brian die because they.
- 23:42Speaker 8: Were best friends. I mean, yeah, I don't think there's
- 23:44Speaker 8: no way in the world he would have ever harmed him.
- 23:46Speaker 8: I think he would have took up for him to yeah,
- 23:48Speaker 8: protect Brian even you know, just the day before they
- 23:51Speaker 8: were playing, I had a bar in there and they
- 23:53Speaker 8: were running around the barn sporting each other of water guns,
- 23:55Speaker 8: you know, playing so just being the kids hardcore game
- 23:59Speaker 8: members right there.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Yeah, really, ain't they water gun?
- 24:05Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 24:05Speaker 5: It seems like Brian and Josh were particularly close.
- 24:11Speaker 3: There was we had good times.
- 24:14Speaker 5: Yeah, And it seems like your family was just so
- 24:16Speaker 5: welcoming to Josh whenever he was in trouble or was
- 24:19Speaker 5: getting kicked out.
- 24:19Speaker 6: Of his house or.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Like, yeah, we loved him and we still do, you know.
- 24:26Speaker 8: And I'd like to see Josh get out as well.
- 24:28Speaker 8: You know, there's no way you could repel or do
- 24:32Speaker 8: anything for their time lost. I mean they've lost. Like
- 24:35Speaker 8: I was telling mister Clark, Uh, they spent more time
- 24:39Speaker 8: in jail than they you know, have actually outside of jail.
- 24:44Speaker 8: And it was sad, very very sad that they're both
- 24:48Speaker 8: grown up in jail.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I was just a year old, dumb man kid no
- 24:55Speaker 1: mo ten year old middle by thing. I've been here
- 24:58Speaker 1: ever sing. I love to have my chance to get
- 25:01Speaker 1: out there and be the man and my daddy always
- 25:04Speaker 1: wanted me to be. But if I don't, I feel
- 25:09Speaker 1: the suth to be non adults. That's that's what I
- 25:12Speaker 1: hope it's done.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Only two people were charged and put on trial for
- 25:22Speaker 2: Brian's murder, but there'd also been a third allegend member
- 25:25Speaker 2: of the conspiracy, Brian's girlfriend, Caprice for twenty five years.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Brian's families believe that she helped kill Brian and then
- 25:33Speaker 2: manage to escape justice. How do you feel about Caprice.
- 25:42Speaker 3: I'm still dealing with that, you know. I don't think
- 25:45Speaker 3: she had anything to do with it. It's hard to
- 25:49Speaker 3: hate somebody that you have, you know, had hard feelings
- 25:54Speaker 3: against for so long. I think it'll just take a
- 25:56Speaker 3: little time.
- 25:58Speaker 8: We're actually just talking about that on the way. We
- 26:02Speaker 8: owe her an apology.
- 26:02Speaker 6: As well, Yeah, we do.
- 26:10Speaker 5: Bryan's family is not the only family to be impacted
- 26:13Speaker 5: by this podcast. When we were down in Rome on
- 26:17Speaker 5: our recent trip, we also met with someone else.
- 26:21Speaker 9: My name is Matt Battle. I am the middle child
- 26:25Speaker 9: of Dallas Battle. I heard about the podcast through my sister.
- 26:30Speaker 9: She's a fan of the podcaster, at least she was
- 26:33Speaker 9: until she heard one of the episodes and she was upset.
- 26:38Speaker 9: She was very upset. She loved her father and he
- 26:43Speaker 9: loved her, so she texted me and gave me the links.
- 26:48Speaker 9: So I listened to the podcast, and I believe that
- 26:51Speaker 9: it showed, of course, if the police officer does his job,
- 26:57Speaker 9: he's going to make a lot of people mad. I
- 27:00Speaker 9: believe that it showed an unfair percentage of people who
- 27:06Speaker 9: obviously hated my dad for obvious reasons, and it was
- 27:11Speaker 9: just disproportionate and never showed what good he did, and
- 27:16Speaker 9: it by no means reflected the type of person he was.
- 27:20Speaker 9: Just an element of his job that some people hated.
- 27:26Speaker 9: And there's nothing wrong with them having their own point
- 27:30Speaker 9: of view. But my father can no longer speak for
- 27:34Speaker 9: himself as he's passed away. My dad loved his job,
- 27:39Speaker 9: he wanted to help people. But yeah, he definitely definitely
- 27:45Speaker 9: is a hero. Nobody will ever make me believe any
- 27:48Speaker 9: different because I knew him.
- 27:56Speaker 5: After hearing the episode about his father, Matthew Battle reached
- 27:59Speaker 5: out to give us the point of view about Sergeant
- 28:02Speaker 5: Battle that no one else had been able to give
- 28:04Speaker 5: us on the record.
- 28:07Speaker 9: I'm in a unique position where I did work with
- 28:10Speaker 9: Floyd County, but I don't work with Floyd County anymore.
- 28:13Speaker 9: I'm not bound by the same tithes that some of
- 28:18Speaker 9: the other people you spoke with are bound by. Some
- 28:22Speaker 9: of them, if they spoke were worried about their job security,
- 28:26Speaker 9: I'm worried about their retirement, and unfortunately that is absolutely true.
- 28:34Speaker 9: But I'm not employed by Floyd County. I'm no longer
- 28:38Speaker 9: in law enforcement, and if you have any questions you'd
- 28:42Speaker 9: like to ask me, I will answer them to the
- 28:45Speaker 9: best of my ability.
- 28:47Speaker 2: If you were still employed by Floyd County, do you
- 28:48Speaker 2: think you could talk to us?
- 28:50Speaker 9: No, I would. If I was still employed by Floyd
- 28:52Speaker 9: County then they found out I was sitting here talking
- 28:55Speaker 9: to you about it, There's no doubt in my mind
- 28:58Speaker 9: I would be fired. I grew up in Floyd County,
- 29:02Speaker 9: and I know wherever I speak it's they're very oppressive
- 29:10Speaker 9: when it comes to their employees and what they do
- 29:13Speaker 9: and don't want employees to say.
- 29:16Speaker 5: Having grown up in and worked for Floyd County, Matthew
- 29:19Speaker 5: Battle was not surprised when he heard on the podcast
- 29:23Speaker 5: about some of the trouble we've had obtaining records from
- 29:26Speaker 5: some of the agencies in Floyd County.
- 29:31Speaker 9: This is an opinion. Okay, this is not fact. I
- 29:34Speaker 9: don't have anything factual to back it up. However, I'm
- 29:39Speaker 9: not stupid, and I certainly don't believe that either one
- 29:41Speaker 9: of you are.
- 29:44Speaker 4: I lost.
- 29:44Speaker 9: It is an excuse for either I'm incompetent at my
- 29:49Speaker 9: job or I don't want to give it to you.
- 29:53Speaker 6: So a way to.
- 29:56Speaker 9: Kind of go around the legal system and say we're
- 30:01Speaker 9: making an effort, we're trying to locate it.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I know we've discussed that if they truly couldn't find
- 30:07Speaker 2: these files, you think could be embarrassed. And there's no
- 30:11Speaker 2: sign of embarrassment.
- 30:13Speaker 9: No, there's and that's because they're confident because it's worked
- 30:18Speaker 9: so many times that people will just stop and say
- 30:24Speaker 9: it's too much trouble, I have other things to do,
- 30:26Speaker 9: and let it go. And that's the strategy that's being used.
- 30:31Speaker 9: That that's my opinion. The strategy that's being used is
- 30:35Speaker 9: will ignore them, They'll go away. However, I do know
- 30:39Speaker 9: that filing the correct paperwork asking for open records under
- 30:45Speaker 9: the Open Records Act. You should be given what is
- 30:51Speaker 9: legal for you to have. But if anybody was holding information,
- 30:55Speaker 9: I do know it's a crime.
- 30:59Speaker 5: Matthew Idol told us he didn't know much about the
- 31:02Speaker 5: Brian Bowling case, so there wasn't too much he could
- 31:04Speaker 5: share with us about it, though he had known one
- 31:07Speaker 5: of the defendants.
- 31:09Speaker 10: Well.
- 31:09Speaker 9: We knew Kane's story. We grew up in church with
- 31:14Speaker 9: him up until about age thirteen, twelve or thirteen, and
- 31:20Speaker 9: dad didn't want to put people in prison, especially people
- 31:26Speaker 9: that you know he may have seen growing up. But
- 31:30Speaker 9: it's not easy to have to arrest somebody that you know,
- 31:33Speaker 9: but you have to arrest.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Did your dad ever mention this case.
- 31:39Speaker 9: When Brian was actually killed. I was fifteen and I
- 31:45Speaker 9: was working as a bag boy Peggy Wiggley, you know,
- 31:47Speaker 9: saving up money for a truck when I turned sixteen,
- 31:51Speaker 9: and my dad wouldn't share a lot.
- 31:55Speaker 6: With me about it.
- 31:56Speaker 9: I remember he told me that Cain was in a
- 31:58Speaker 9: lot of trouble, and he he didn't want us to
- 32:01Speaker 9: be upset that somebody we knew was in a lot
- 32:05Speaker 9: of trouble.
- 32:09Speaker 5: Even though his father never shared details about the investigation
- 32:13Speaker 5: with him, Matthew Battle does feel confident that there are
- 32:17Speaker 5: things Sergeant Battle would absolutely have done as he investigated
- 32:21Speaker 5: the case.
- 32:24Speaker 2: And according to Craig Burns, your dad was like, no, it's.
- 32:27Speaker 10: Fine, No, no, no, no, he would have had an autopsy.
- 32:36Speaker 10: Why would he not?
- 32:40Speaker 2: Do you know of your dad in any other cases
- 32:43Speaker 2: not seeking an autopsy. It seems like a strange thing
- 32:45Speaker 2: for an investigator not to do.
- 32:47Speaker 9: No, I don't. I know that he and David Stewart
- 32:52Speaker 9: would go and witness autopsies. They didn't have to go
- 32:55Speaker 9: as the investigator to see the autopsy, but they would go.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Your dad clearly took a personal interest or understood the
- 33:03Speaker 2: importance of the autopsis if he went in person.
- 33:06Speaker 9: He took it very seriously. He would go to every
- 33:11Speaker 9: autopsy he could. So No, he dad that the Dallas
- 33:16Speaker 9: Battle that I knew would have wanted an autopsy. I
- 33:21Speaker 9: don't know why there wasn't an autopsy.
- 33:25Speaker 5: Matthew Battle couldn't tell us much about the specifics of
- 33:28Speaker 5: the Bowling case, but he does know someone who could,
- 33:33Speaker 5: Officer David Stewart.
- 33:39Speaker 9: David is a plesora of information. He does very much
- 33:44Speaker 9: want to talk about this case to you, and.
- 33:50Speaker 6: He is stuck.
- 33:51Speaker 9: Between a rock and a hard place, because he's close
- 33:56Speaker 9: to retirement and he needs this retire But if there
- 34:02Speaker 9: is something that suggests that there could be evidence that
- 34:08Speaker 9: Lee Clark is innocent, or even Caine's story was innocent,
- 34:14Speaker 9: If there were anything to suggest that, my dad and
- 34:19Speaker 9: David Stewart would be all four, let's get it right.
- 34:26Speaker 9: If there was a wrong done, let's get it right.
- 34:30Speaker 9: They're not monsters. They've served their community, they love people,
- 34:36Speaker 9: they love their families, and if they could go back
- 34:41Speaker 9: and do it again because of some evidence that came up,
- 34:48Speaker 9: they would do it. My dad would do it. That's
- 34:54Speaker 9: the kind of people they are. They would go back.
- 34:56Speaker 6: And do it.
- 34:57Speaker 9: They wouldn't want to send somebody in prison that didn't
- 34:59Speaker 9: deserve to go there. They know how horrible prison is.
- 35:06Speaker 9: I wish David could talk to you.
- 35:13Speaker 5: Matthew Battle told us that his dad and officer David
- 35:15Speaker 5: Stewart had worked together on hundreds of cases.
- 35:19Speaker 9: It went way beyond coworkers. We were a family still are.
- 35:24Speaker 9: David's a dear friend. You don't find many friends like
- 35:29Speaker 9: that in life. I remember one time David told me
- 35:34Speaker 9: a murder suspect was raising a gun to shoot David.
- 35:38Speaker 9: They were hunting him in Polk County, and Dad got
- 35:42Speaker 9: between him and David Stuart and started wrestling with the
- 35:45Speaker 9: gun and got the gun down, and then David was
- 35:48Speaker 9: able to engage in the fight and they were able
- 35:52Speaker 9: to wrestle the gun away and uh, nobody got shot.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Before Matthew Battle I met with us, he'd called up
- 36:01Speaker 2: David Stewart and met with him first to talk about
- 36:03Speaker 2: the case and to let him know we plan to
- 36:05Speaker 2: speak with us. And he told us that David Stewart
- 36:07Speaker 2: told him that he'd been listening to the show, and
- 36:10Speaker 2: he said Stuart told him he felt like he had
- 36:12Speaker 2: been thrown under the bus, not by the podcast, but
- 36:15Speaker 2: by Floyd County. Glenn Clark has held onto the hope
- 36:31Speaker 2: that one day his son will be able to come home,
- 36:34Speaker 2: but for a long time, for decades now, he and
- 36:37Speaker 2: Lee have been at a loss for how to make
- 36:39Speaker 2: that happen.
- 36:41Speaker 4: I've been waiting and looking and searching all these years
- 36:46Speaker 4: to try to find somebody that had a little leverage
- 36:49Speaker 4: that could.
- 36:49Speaker 6: Help on this.
- 36:50Speaker 4: You know, would leave because I knew that he was
- 36:53Speaker 4: an innocent man.
- 36:54Speaker 6: And I prayed about it, prayed about.
- 36:56Speaker 4: It and let me tell you now, I've questioned the Lord.
- 36:59Speaker 6: He don't mind question. But it's on his time.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Will will be done, and it's working now because I
- 37:07Speaker 4: pray for him to send somebody our way, and he.
- 37:11Speaker 6: Did he did.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Susan called me one day and she wants gonna save me,
- 37:15Speaker 4: and that's when the lower started work. And he's working
- 37:18Speaker 4: it right now, just like right now, he's bringing us together.
- 37:22Speaker 6: I talked to Lady last night.
- 37:24Speaker 4: He's ever since all this podcast stuff and all's been
- 37:27Speaker 4: going on, he's his mind's just racing.
- 37:33Speaker 6: You know, you got somebody that's been in there as
- 37:36Speaker 6: long as he has.
- 37:37Speaker 4: And then when it comes by to y'all listen to
- 37:41Speaker 4: the podcast and all, and.
- 37:44Speaker 6: It was he said me, he said did He said,
- 37:46Speaker 6: you realize what this means?
- 37:48Speaker 4: You know?
- 37:49Speaker 6: It just really just broke him down.
- 37:57Speaker 2: It was nineteen ninety seven when Lee Clark was arrested
- 38:00Speaker 2: and taken away from the life he had just started
- 38:02Speaker 2: to make for himself. That life he will never be
- 38:06Speaker 2: able to get back.
- 38:08Speaker 6: Lisa.
- 38:10Speaker 4: I saw Lee go into prison as a boy, young boy,
- 38:13Speaker 4: scared to death.
- 38:15Speaker 6: I've watched him become a man in prison.
- 38:19Speaker 8: It's hard way to come up.
- 38:22Speaker 4: I just don't thank to put the Lord in a
- 38:24Speaker 4: this all this stuff has came out, I really am.
- 38:29Speaker 4: I came out a lot sooner, Amen, may too a lot.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Sooner, because you can't get back twenty five years, no,
- 38:38Speaker 3: and there's just no way, you know. And I hope
- 38:42Speaker 3: he does get out soon and maybe he can find
- 38:45Speaker 3: him a girl.
- 38:46Speaker 6: And maybe he can have him a baby.
- 38:48Speaker 4: I sure hope.
- 38:49Speaker 8: So now I think about after the podcast, what you know,
- 38:56Speaker 8: twenty five years later that we've been living lie or
- 39:02Speaker 8: been decepted, you know, can't change it at all. Just
- 39:07Speaker 8: like mister Clark, though I wish the balls will get
- 39:09Speaker 8: turning rapidly. I like to see him out of jail today,
- 39:14Speaker 8: you know. I think it would be too soon. There's
- 39:18Speaker 8: no way to go back in the past, just like
- 39:20Speaker 8: he said. But I do think about it every day,
- 39:22Speaker 8: and my heart goes out to you and your family, Lee, Josh,
- 39:27Speaker 8: and my story as well, June, all of them. My
- 39:30Speaker 8: heart hurts for every one of them for having to
- 39:33Speaker 8: go through this as well. I know we've lost bride
- 39:36Speaker 8: where he is gone, they've lost their child where hopefully
- 39:42Speaker 8: they will be able to see him, you know, very soon.
- 39:44Speaker 8: But it's been. I would imagine just like a death
- 39:46Speaker 8: to you guys as well, you know, not being able
- 39:48Speaker 8: to see or just like you said, Christmases and birthdays,
- 39:52Speaker 8: you know, special cages, and I think every day you
- 39:56Speaker 8: know about I've been wanting to talk to you to
- 39:58Speaker 8: kind of get all this off my chest too, but
- 40:01Speaker 8: just anything we could do to help you to correct
- 40:05Speaker 8: the wrong.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Now after the podcast, all I can think about is
- 40:10Speaker 3: how to make this wrong a rock. That's my main
- 40:15Speaker 3: concentration now, you know, I still think about my brother
- 40:19Speaker 3: and all love my brother. I always will, you know.
- 40:22Speaker 3: But we need to do what we need to do
- 40:25Speaker 3: now to help Lee and Josh both. Whatever we can
- 40:29Speaker 3: do world to help get him out. We will go
- 40:34Speaker 3: to pro board, meet, go write letters, talk to attorneys,
- 40:39Speaker 3: do whatever we can. I had the investigator from the
- 40:44Speaker 3: Georgia Innocent Project contact me, oh did. I talked with
- 40:48Speaker 3: him yesterday and so then he told me that our
- 40:51Speaker 3: attorneys is gonna come and talk with me. So I
- 40:55Speaker 3: told him I'll do whatever I can to help y'all.
- 41:05Speaker 5: Bryan's family wants to see the justice system act quickly
- 41:09Speaker 5: to right the wrong that occurred here. Unfortunately, when it
- 41:13Speaker 5: comes to innocent's claims. The wheels of justice often turn slowly.
- 41:19Speaker 5: It can take years just to get a court hearing,
- 41:21Speaker 5: and sometimes years more before the court gets around to
- 41:24Speaker 5: issuing a ruling, and then add some more time on
- 41:28Speaker 5: top of that for the decision to get appealed and
- 41:31Speaker 5: ruled on, and then, depending on what was ruled on,
- 41:34Speaker 5: that whole process can start over at the beginning and
- 41:37Speaker 5: go back to the trial court and get appealed again
- 41:39Speaker 5: before some kind of final decision is ever reached. In
- 41:43Speaker 5: other words, it can take a really long time. But
- 41:47Speaker 5: if and when the day comes that Lee wins his freedom,
- 41:51Speaker 5: Glen Clark is ready to help his son return to
- 41:53Speaker 5: the outside world.
- 41:57Speaker 4: Well, I'm sixty three year old now, and I pray
- 42:01Speaker 4: to the Lord all the time that he'll let him
- 42:04Speaker 4: out soon and where I can spend some time with him,
- 42:07Speaker 4: I can help him get on his feet, help him
- 42:10Speaker 4: be established, you know. And that's that's what I want
- 42:13Speaker 4: to do, because we've there's been a lot of time lost,
- 42:16Speaker 4: you know.
- 42:16Speaker 11: Yeah, And when he does, it's going to be a
- 42:22Speaker 11: shocker and him, Yeah, because you imagine there, Lord, than
- 42:26Speaker 11: he was out, you know what, right over, right for life?
- 42:32Speaker 6: All he knows is gray walls and muddle chairs and metle.
- 42:35Speaker 1: Beds, and I got my family out there and got
- 42:44Speaker 1: my dad, my mom and stuff like that. I love
- 42:48Speaker 1: my dad and I love my mom unconditionally, but just
- 42:52Speaker 1: saying that that's all I've got out there makes me
- 42:54Speaker 1: feel like I'm still a teenager.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Lehn is down of close, But in some ways Lea's
- 43:01Speaker 2: told me he thinks his dad still sees him as
- 43:03Speaker 2: that teenager that he was when he went in.
- 43:06Speaker 1: I tell him all the time, my some mond, I said,
- 43:08Speaker 1: I just want to get out of here. I I'm
- 43:10Speaker 1: a good girl, getting married and having some kids. You
- 43:12Speaker 1: know he does mat or y'are big name. Well, he
- 43:16Speaker 1: ain't got no Why worry about you got no kid?
- 43:19Speaker 1: You ain't got worried out all problems, walking problems. I
- 43:23Speaker 1: walked him problems. Been a big forty two years old.
- 43:26Speaker 1: I know everything I want out of line, I know
- 43:28Speaker 1: what I want to do with my life. I don't
- 43:30Speaker 1: even know what I want to do as far to
- 43:32Speaker 1: work for the rest of my life. It ain't cut trees,
- 43:36Speaker 1: not my nitty. I don't tell you that right now.
- 43:38Speaker 1: I'm wanting to use that work though, to give what
- 43:40Speaker 1: I'm wanting to accomplish though. I'm wanting to use that
- 43:42Speaker 1: to get the money up.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Lee knows that if he ever gets out of prison,
- 43:49Speaker 2: his best shot at finding work is to go into
- 43:52Speaker 2: the tree business like his dad, but long term, he
- 43:56Speaker 2: hopes to open up his own business.
- 43:59Speaker 1: It's compleat it's like a place for animals, and it's
- 44:02Speaker 1: like animal hotel hotel. Yeah, let's take this for instance.
- 44:05Speaker 1: You can take your dog to the dog can if
- 44:06Speaker 1: you're going out of town. You know what I'm saying, right, Well,
- 44:10Speaker 1: this place is a step up from there, you know,
- 44:12Speaker 1: and I know take your dog for instance, to treat
- 44:15Speaker 1: your dog by family and your cat, right yep, Okay,
- 44:18Speaker 1: So you're naturally gonna want the best for them if
- 44:20Speaker 1: you're going out of town and you're giving difference to
- 44:22Speaker 1: somebody else to watch out for, right, So why would
- 44:25Speaker 1: you take them to a Dolph kennel when you could
- 44:27Speaker 1: bring them to my place. It's gonna be a good
- 44:29Speaker 1: little set up once I get it up running. I
- 44:31Speaker 1: got a lot of good things in mind for it.
- 44:33Speaker 1: Something that people will come up in there and when
- 44:36Speaker 1: they see it and they say how they're their animals
- 44:39Speaker 1: are being treated them like, Yeah, well we're gonna come
- 44:41Speaker 1: back here. It's gonna be pretty cool.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Glenn is not surprised that his son doesn't plan to
- 44:50Speaker 2: follow in his footsteps if he ever does get released.
- 44:53Speaker 6: He's a cat. Yeah.
- 44:55Speaker 4: When he's up at wall for up, he had a
- 44:57Speaker 4: cat and uh he said. He called me, said, Daddy,
- 45:00Speaker 4: He said, I need you to send some money to
- 45:03Speaker 4: buy his cat cat food, you know, And uh what,
- 45:08Speaker 4: Lee told me That cat loved to him because every
- 45:10Speaker 4: time he go over there to go to work, that cat.
- 45:13Speaker 6: Love to see him coming jump up. And he was
- 45:16Speaker 6: crazy about that cat. You know, Lee got a vision.
- 45:20Speaker 4: And I told late that's a good thing, I said,
- 45:22Speaker 4: cause people like their animals as much as they do
- 45:24Speaker 4: to kids and family.
- 45:26Speaker 6: I mean, you get attached to him.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Lee has lots of plans what his life will be
- 45:31Speaker 2: like once he's out of prison. First, though, he'll need
- 45:34Speaker 2: win his freedom, however long.
- 45:37Speaker 11: That may take.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Brand's family is now united with Lee's and canes to
- 45:40Speaker 2: see that it happens.
- 45:44Speaker 6: Oh thousand times better, ain't no doubt.
- 45:48Speaker 8: So we've been needing for years.
- 45:50Speaker 4: I mean I never met this man till today, and
- 45:53Speaker 4: her either, I never laid eyes on.
- 45:55Speaker 6: Him you know and uh yeah, yes, Sir Brian to
- 46:04Speaker 6: yeah it does me. I know it does. I feel
- 46:07Speaker 6: like I've known them forever.
