- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Danish with Fexingo? Luna: Yeah, I'm excited! What are we learning today? Lucas: We're continuing with ordinal numbers. Last time we did femte, sjette, syvende, ottende. Luna: Right, those were fun. So today we go further? Lucas: Exactly. Today we learn niende, tiende, ellevte, and tolvte. That's 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th. Luna: Okay, let's hear them. Niende? Lucas: Niende. Say it with me: niende. Luna: Niende. Lucas: Great. The next is tiende. Luna: Tiende. Lucas: Good. Now ellevte. Luna: Ellevte. That's a bit tricky. Lucas: You got it. And tolvte. Luna: Tolvte. Lucas: Perfect. Let's practice them in order: niende, tiende, ellevte, tolvte. Luna: Niende, tiende, ellevte, tolvte. Lucas: Now let's use them in sentences. For example: Han kom på niendepladsen. He came in 9th place. Luna: Han kom på niendepladsen. That's a long word. Lucas: Niendepladsen just means ninth place. Another one: Det er hans tiende besøg. It's his tenth visit. Luna: Det er hans tiende besøg. Lucas: Next: Hun bor på ellevte sal. She lives on the 11th floor. Luna: Ellevte sal. So 11th floor. Lucas: Yes. And: Han fylder tolvte år i dag. He turns 12th year today. Actually, we usually say han fylder tolv år, but tolvte is used for the date. Luna: Ah, so for birthdays we say the number, but for dates we use ordinal. Got it. Lucas: Exactly. Let me give you a little story. I was at a running race. There were twelve participants. I came in niende. Luna: Niende? That's 9th. Not bad. Lucas: My friend came tiende. And another friend came ellevte. And the last person came tolvte. Luna: So they all placed: niende, tiende, ellevte, tolvte. Lucas: Right. Let's say them again: niende. Luna: Niende. Lucas: Tiende. Luna: Tiende. Lucas: Ellevte. Luna: Ellevte. Lucas: Tolvte. Luna: Tolvte. Lucas: Now, Luna, a quick thing. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Danish, consider supporting the show. Lucas: Absolutely. Anyway, back to our numbers. Can you count from first to twelfth in Danish now? Luna: Let me try: første, anden, tredje, fjerde, femte, sjette, syvende, ottende, niende, tiende, ellevte, tolvte. Lucas: That was perfect! You've come a long way. Luna: Thanks. It's fun to see the pattern. Lucas: Yes, the pattern is clear. Now let's use them in a conversation. Imagine you are at a hotel. You want to say your room is on the 9th floor. Luna: Mit værelse er på niende sal. Lucas: Good. And if it's on the 11th floor? Luna: Mit værelse er på ellevte sal. Lucas: Great. And what about the 12th? Luna: Tolvte sal. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's do a quick review. I'll say the English, you say the Danish. Ninth? Luna: Niende. Lucas: Tenth? Luna: Tiende. Lucas: Eleventh? Luna: Ellevte. Lucas: Twelfth? Luna: Tolvte. Lucas: Awesome. You're ready to use these in real life. Luna: I think so. Thanks, Lucas. Lucas: You're welcome. That's all for today. Practice these numbers, and we'll see you next time for more Danish. Luna: Hej hej!
