- Preston owns Vancouver! This is The Sports Reset for Sunday August 2nd Taylah Preston took the WTA Odlum Brown VanOpen final, beating Maddison Inglis in straight sets, 7 6, 6 3, in an all-Australian finish in Vancouver. The third seed handled the tighter first set, then closed it with a more comfortable second, which is exactly how a final can tilt from tense to controlled. In UFC, Uroš Medić beat Daniel Rodriguez in the welterweight main event, while Aleksandar Rakic also picked up a heavyweight decision over Marcin Tybura. In MLB, the Jays beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5 to 1 at Rogers Centre, a useful home result before the series wraps today. The Boston Red Sox also edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 3 to 2 at Dodger Stadium, one of the sharper baseball results on a packed Saturday slate. Looking ahead, the golf focus is the AIG Women’s Open, where Yealimi Noh starts the day at 7 under with Esther Henseleit and Lucy Li chasing at 4 under, so the final round has both a major-title lead and a small enough gap to keep it live. On the PGA side, Davis Riley leads the Rocket Classic at 15 under, one ahead of Michael Brennan, with Rasmus Højgaard three back at 12 under. In tennis, Taylor Fritz faces Rafael Jodar in the ATP Mubadala DC Open final, while Jessica Pegula meets Alexandra Eala in the WTA final, a nice contrast between established American star power and a fast-rising finalist. In MLB, the Jays get the Cardinals again, and the Red Sox-Dodgers series continues in Los Angeles.
