- 0:00Speaker 1: Want more Treehouse, check out our YouTube exclusive shows at
- 0:02Speaker 1: YouTube dot com. Slash at Treehouse on air.
- 0:09Speaker 2: It is time to leave your worries outside and laugh
- 0:13Speaker 2: with us inside the Treehouse. I'm Daniel Malley along with
- 0:17Speaker 2: Trey Trenholm and Rebecca Black coming up on the show today.
- 0:25Speaker 2: When you're in the middle of doing your job and
- 0:27Speaker 2: suddenly a bear and we're going to start with gym
- 0:35Speaker 2: z is rebranding things yet again. They just can't stop,
- 0:40Speaker 2: won't stop, and they can't stop, won't stop. I'm afraid
- 0:42Speaker 2: they may get their hands on that and change it
- 0:44Speaker 2: up to where we have to learn a new language
- 0:46Speaker 2: just to communicate with these kids. Lol is over. According
- 0:54Speaker 2: to a new report.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Generations like us used LOL the show that they were
- 1:01Speaker 3: laughing in a text conversation laugh out loud right. Gen
- 1:05Speaker 3: Zers say emojis have made it easier to convey when
- 1:08Speaker 3: someone's laughing more than texting letters ever could. They're using
- 1:13Speaker 3: LOL as a social qu to be sarcastic.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Normally, when I use LOL, it's because like I'm annoyed
- 1:20Speaker 1: with what you're texting.
- 1:21Speaker 2: May sarcastically Now like like lool not actually lack laugh
- 1:24Speaker 2: out loud. It just like LOL, Like, yeah, that's like
- 1:27Speaker 2: it's it's not funny.
- 1:28Speaker 3: So the next time someone says LOL to you, if
- 1:32Speaker 3: they're younger, you better think twice because they may be
- 1:37Speaker 3: giving you a little bit of shade and thinking you
- 1:39Speaker 3: don't understand it.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Is it just me? Or is gen x? How do
- 1:48Speaker 2: I put this? A bunch of little jerks?
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean you mean gen Z.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Sorry, Yes, we're big jerks as gen X. Let me
- 1:57Speaker 2: rephrase Is it just me? Or is a bunch of
- 2:00Speaker 2: little jerks?
- 2:01Speaker 4: Yes? Absolutely, they're the worst.
- 2:04Speaker 2: It's really starting to feel like they're finding they're trying
- 2:07Speaker 2: to find different ways, in different angles to make fun
- 2:11Speaker 2: of the olds.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Like don't they know LOL walked so that their little
- 2:16Speaker 5: smiley face laughy face emojibs could run.
- 2:21Speaker 4: You're welcome.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I'm a big fan of perspective, and I've always felt
- 2:26Speaker 2: that in order to appreciate the things you have, you
- 2:30Speaker 2: need to have started someplace without those things. So in
- 2:33Speaker 2: order to appreciate the emoji. When we got our first
- 2:38Speaker 2: cell phones, we had you know, I mean we were
- 2:40Speaker 2: doing colons, semi colons, hyphens, and parentheses to make our
- 2:47Speaker 2: own emoticons. And before that, it was calculators typing out boobs.
- 2:54Speaker 2: So you know, back off, kids. If it wasn't for
- 3:02Speaker 2: the boobs on the calculator, you wouldn't have LOL to
- 3:05Speaker 2: use against us sarcastically your little words correct.
- 3:10Speaker 5: By the way, I'm not even using LOL like as
- 3:14Speaker 5: a Joe. It's it's just easier, it's faster. I'm very lazy.
- 3:17Speaker 5: I don't want to have to switch the keyboard over,
- 3:20Speaker 5: so I'm just gonna type the LLL rather than get
- 3:22Speaker 5: an emoji.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you're in the habit and I get it.
- 3:25Speaker 1: What is it?
- 3:25Speaker 6: Trey?
- 3:26Speaker 1: I always hated LOL, so I don't mind this one
- 3:29Speaker 1: at all.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Oh what what's your hatred of LOL?
- 3:33Speaker 1: I'm curious, overused, simplistic and and a lot of times
- 3:38Speaker 1: I always felt it was condescending. So see, now I
- 3:43Speaker 1: got no problem with this one. I mean, I hate
- 3:45Speaker 1: gen Z.
- 3:45Speaker 4: And it's still all in on that. I love it.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, but I I if LOL is very boomerish to me.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I actually I agree with Trey to a extent on
- 4:00Speaker 2: the LOL. I was anti LOL because I felt like
- 4:07Speaker 2: so many people, especially men older than me, overused it,
- 4:12Speaker 2: and I don't know why they over used it. One
- 4:15Speaker 2: of the great examples is Sean Salisbury. Love Sean Salisbury,
- 4:20Speaker 2: very talented man on the ESPN until he showed some
- 4:22Speaker 2: photos to people he shouldn't have, and then he ended
- 4:24Speaker 2: up on local radio in Dallas and that's where he
- 4:26Speaker 2: and I met and hung out for a handful of months.
- 4:29Speaker 2: But he was the worst culprit when it came to
- 4:32Speaker 2: LOL via text. I'm like, Sean, why are you l
- 4:35Speaker 2: oling me? All I sent was I'll see you at nine.
- 4:38Speaker 6: Oh.
- 4:38Speaker 2: He's like, and he's like cool LOL. I'm like, what's
- 4:40Speaker 2: stop it?
- 4:41Speaker 5: No, that's just inappropriate? You see the LOL that? No,
- 4:44Speaker 5: here's the thing. Boomers just don't even know what it means.
- 4:47Speaker 5: They don't I don't think they know what it means.
- 4:49Speaker 5: So they're like, ah, this is what the kids are
- 4:50Speaker 5: doing LOL.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And maybe that's what it is. Maybe maybe that's why
- 4:55Speaker 2: gen z Is is twisting the LOL and trying to
- 4:59Speaker 2: use it again us older generations, because we have bastardized it.
- 5:05Speaker 5: What if we just said no, we've been using it
- 5:08Speaker 5: sarcastically this whole entire time, and then we got them now.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I don't think we have though, Like you're on record
- 5:18Speaker 2: just a few minutes ago saying that you loved using lol.
- 5:21Speaker 4: It's all about spin. It's all about spin, Dan.
- 5:23Speaker 5: We got to spend it in our favor so that
- 5:25Speaker 5: they realize how stupid they are for trying to steal
- 5:27Speaker 5: all of our stuff.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Okay, that I'm on board with. It's not necessarily what
- 5:33Speaker 2: you said before. It's that you may have evolved on
- 5:35Speaker 2: the matter correct, even if it was only two minutes ago.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Exactly exactly, shows that I'm open to change.
- 5:43Speaker 2: But going back to what you said, Trey, it's like
- 5:46Speaker 2: I had seen so many people older or even around
- 5:50Speaker 2: our age, millennial and Gen X using lol so much
- 5:54Speaker 2: that I just I just didn't want to use it
- 5:57Speaker 2: unless it was actually appropriate, because I really felt like
- 6:01Speaker 2: so many people were doing it when they weren't actually
- 6:05Speaker 2: experiencing laughter.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I think it became especially people a little
- 6:12Speaker 1: bit older, used it way too much on stuff that
- 6:17Speaker 1: really wasn't that funny. And that's where you know, sometimes
- 6:20Speaker 1: I would raretimes I would ever type out lol it
- 6:24Speaker 1: was kind of of oh yeah that was funny. Uh huh.
- 6:27Speaker 5: So essentially we've been using it like it's a courtesy laugh,
- 6:30Speaker 5: is what you're saying.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Patronizing?
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah, a little bit yeah, and between those two the
- 6:38Speaker 2: it's kind of gray, like it could go a little
- 6:40Speaker 2: bit of both ways.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 2: So in that regard, maybe we were the pioneers of
- 6:47Speaker 2: using LOL in this fashion. It's just like you said,
- 6:51Speaker 2: Rebecca gen Z has run with it.
- 6:54Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, Rebecca doesn't get off here. She took
- 6:57Speaker 1: a stand that she absolutely was four loll and she
- 7:00Speaker 1: used it and was defending it. She needs to know
- 7:02Speaker 1: you sit down.
- 7:05Speaker 4: I am agreeing with you, Trey. I am agreeing with you.
- 7:08Speaker 4: You are one hundred percent correct.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I said, I don't raise your hands like victory.
- 7:15Speaker 5: No, no, no, I'm here for the spin job. I
- 7:17Speaker 5: am here for the spin job.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Uh uh no, just say, just say you evolved on
- 7:23Speaker 2: the matter.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I did. I evolved.
- 7:26Speaker 5: Now I use it sarcastically, obviously, God lo o L.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I love that nothing gets Trey.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Matter is when you immediately flip on something in the
- 7:40Speaker 5: middle of the show.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Oh no, no, tray tray tray is an immediate hold
- 7:44Speaker 2: feet to the fiery guy.
- 7:49Speaker 1: You took a stand. I admire it. Now you have
- 7:52Speaker 1: to die on that hill.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Why I'm learning I am evolving in real time.
- 7:58Speaker 2: That seems a little rigid, because trust me. There's lots
- 8:03Speaker 2: of things we used to believe many years ago. That
- 8:05Speaker 2: that's a hill I do not not only not want
- 8:08Speaker 2: to die on, I don't want to be anywhere near
- 8:10Speaker 2: that hill.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I have I have died on on hills, you know,
- 8:14Speaker 1: stacked high with your stupidity. So I'm I'm not really
- 8:20Speaker 1: throwing a stone. I'm just saying, you know.
- 8:23Speaker 4: I better be willing to just go ahead and fall
- 8:25Speaker 4: on the sword. Here is what you're saying.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I guess I'm a little more fluid, not in that way.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Shut up. What I mean is if there's a hill
- 8:32Speaker 2: that I've decided that I might die on, if I
- 8:35Speaker 2: look around and see a bunch of corpses around me,
- 8:37Speaker 2: I may rethink my position. Yeah, we just got to
- 8:43Speaker 2: see it with lightning speed out of Rebecca exactly.
- 8:46Speaker 4: I can't know. I turned very quickly. It was it
- 8:49Speaker 4: was easy. What can I say? I should be a
- 8:52Speaker 4: politician or something.
- 8:54Speaker 2: That's all you gotta do. That, that's that's the ultimate
- 8:57Speaker 2: political thing. It's like, oh, well you know, oh you
- 9:00Speaker 2: said this the other day. Well I've evolved done the
- 9:02Speaker 2: issue in two days.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Yes I have, Yes, I have seen the error of
- 9:07Speaker 4: my ways. Lol. Is stupid, and so.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Is gin Z.
- 9:14Speaker 2: That's the hill. We can all party on raw Yes.

- 11:57Speaker 2: your regular job and suddenly a bear showed up?
- 12:00Speaker 1: Tray, I'd assume he'd want a Vouka Sota.
- 12:07Speaker 2: And you don't discriminate? What about you, Rebecca? What if
- 12:12Speaker 2: you're I'm sorry.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Coming off Texas Bear Round Off weekend in Dallas.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I didn't even make that connection. I should have.
- 12:19Speaker 2: You're right coming off of Texas Texas Bear Round up
- 12:23Speaker 2: the old tbr.
- 12:25Speaker 1: TB Are you TB?
- 12:27Speaker 6: Are you?
- 12:29Speaker 2: Rebecca? What about you?
- 12:31Speaker 4: I think I'm quitting. I think I'm done. I think
- 12:34Speaker 4: the job is over. Goodbye.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Well, now you're now. Imagine you're a TV reporter at
- 12:41Speaker 2: kt LA in Los Angeles and you're doing a report
- 12:46Speaker 2: on a bear attack in a neighborhood, and that's when
- 12:50Speaker 2: a bear just happens to show up.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Good morning.
- 12:52Speaker 6: I'm Aaron Myers in Monrovia. A bear attacked a woman
- 12:57Speaker 6: walking her dog in this neighborhood, and and now they're
- 13:00Speaker 6: trying to determine if it is the same bear that
- 13:03Speaker 6: lives underneath the house here behind me, All those details
- 13:06Speaker 6: coming up.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I'm going to back this up for a moment to
- 13:11Speaker 2: the very beginning of the clip. Look over on the
- 13:14Speaker 2: right over her shoulder.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 13:17Speaker 2: What do you see?
- 13:20Speaker 4: There's definitely some movement.
- 13:26Speaker 2: A bear that's not a dog. Good news is that
- 13:32Speaker 2: people back in the studio, do notice this.
- 13:35Speaker 6: Myers and Monrovia lives underneath the house here behind me.
- 13:40Speaker 6: All those details coming up, and yes, we all see
- 13:47Speaker 6: that bear off to the right side.
- 13:48Speaker 4: We'll get back it with Aaron in just a moment.
- 13:50Speaker 4: We all know California.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Now do you hear that? The voice over, I see
- 13:55Speaker 2: it now, that's Aaron. When she finally pays attention to
- 13:58Speaker 2: I'm assuming the little rock that her photographer is pointing
- 14:02Speaker 2: at when she's doing this shot, She's like, oh, it
- 14:04Speaker 2: is the bear right there. So they do what you
- 14:07Speaker 2: should do in television news when you're alive, You go
- 14:11Speaker 2: back to the reporter who's in peril.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Let's go back to Aaron Myers. We're going back now, Aaron,
- 14:17Speaker 4: what are you seeing out there? And be careful?
- 14:19Speaker 6: Please, Hi you guys, you can see the bear actually
- 14:23Speaker 6: walking into the trap or.
- 14:25Speaker 2: So here you got the house in the background behind
- 14:28Speaker 2: her she's across the street and then in the house
- 14:31Speaker 2: behind her there's a trailer which is apparently a trap
- 14:35Speaker 2: for the bear, and that's where the bear was hiding,
- 14:37Speaker 2: in between the house and between this trailer. So she
- 14:40Speaker 2: hasn't even seen the full breadth of the bear yet.
- 14:45Speaker 2: But she's about to.
- 14:47Speaker 6: No, it was going to do. But now it's walking out.
- 14:49Speaker 6: We're gonna step back a little bit. We're told by
- 14:52Speaker 6: the man who lives here that this bear has been
- 14:55Speaker 6: here for several months and they do believe it has
- 14:59Speaker 6: a baby. That's all also living in the house. So
- 15:01Speaker 6: it's walking out this way. We may get back in
- 15:04Speaker 6: the car, depending on what it does.
- 15:06Speaker 2: But what do you mean? May that bear is way
- 15:08Speaker 2: bigger than I thought it was. It comes around the
- 15:11Speaker 2: back of that trailer. I don't know how she's still standing,
- 15:13Speaker 2: let alone talking. May get back in No, I'd already
- 15:17Speaker 2: be in that van. I can be from the.
- 15:19Speaker 5: Vand yes, I'm like, we can roll the window down,
- 15:22Speaker 5: crack the window, put the camera lens outside, and stay
- 15:25Speaker 5: inside the vehicle so we don't lose.
- 15:26Speaker 2: A limb or two if you want, get the boom
- 15:29Speaker 2: microphone so you can stick it out and ask the
- 15:31Speaker 2: bear for comment.
- 15:32Speaker 5: Correct, Why are we still doing this in news? Why
- 15:35Speaker 5: are we sending people to a location that is known
- 15:38Speaker 5: to have a bear sighting?
- 15:39Speaker 1: This is like for this very reason right that we're watching.
- 15:44Speaker 5: They want her to be eaten, like we want the
- 15:47Speaker 5: ratings of her being eaten.
- 15:49Speaker 6: It's they care.
- 15:51Speaker 2: They can't officially say they want her to be attacked,
- 15:55Speaker 2: but they do want the possibility of it.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yes, roof of it. Yes, if you took away the
- 16:03Speaker 1: superfluous live shot out of news, they wouldn't know what
- 16:09Speaker 1: to do with themselves. They actually have to go go
- 16:12Speaker 1: find news.
- 16:13Speaker 4: Would they?
- 16:13Speaker 5: Though, Like, we got AI now, that can cover this,
- 16:16Speaker 5: no problem. We can make it look like she is
- 16:19Speaker 5: about to be attacked by a bear with a green screen.
- 16:21Speaker 5: There's a number of ways to do this without actually
- 16:23Speaker 5: endangering this poor woman.
- 16:25Speaker 2: That is a slippery slope, Rebecca, because if you start
- 16:28Speaker 2: putting AI reporters in the field, then you don't need
- 16:30Speaker 2: the regular reporters in the field and they will start
- 16:33Speaker 2: losing their jobs.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Well, I meant keep her and then let's do an
- 16:37Speaker 4: AI background.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Oh gotchak right now?
- 16:41Speaker 4: You can see it here in the driveway.
- 16:44Speaker 6: They say, he usually or she usually comes out a
- 16:46Speaker 6: couple times a day and just hangs out in this
- 16:49Speaker 6: neighborhood a lot. And you can see her right there
- 16:51Speaker 6: going onto the grass and they don't know, I do
- 16:54Speaker 6: want to say, they don't know if this was the
- 16:56Speaker 6: bear that attacked the person walking.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Odds are I don't think that. Yeah, there's that many
- 17:01Speaker 2: bears in the neighborhood.
- 17:03Speaker 6: No, that woman did have her dog with her. The
- 17:07Speaker 6: bear swiped her leg. We're told she's going to be okay.
- 17:12Speaker 6: But this is like around the seven hundred block of
- 17:14Speaker 6: Oak Blade Drive, And once again, this bear been here
- 17:17Speaker 6: for some time. Residents say they have seen it for
- 17:21Speaker 6: quite a while. And you do see fish and wildlife
- 17:23Speaker 6: here too. They are out here monitoring the situation.
- 17:26Speaker 2: That's my favorite part of this, outside of the bear
- 17:29Speaker 2: coming around the back of the trailer so you see
- 17:31Speaker 2: how large it is is when she mentions that game
- 17:33Speaker 2: and wildlife is there monitoring the situation. But you don't
- 17:37Speaker 2: see a person. No, you just see the truck because
- 17:40Speaker 2: even they know that it's stupid to be outside the vehicle.
- 17:46Speaker 5: Like, at the very least, shouldn't the news station have
- 17:49Speaker 5: sent her out with like a good pair of running
- 17:51Speaker 5: shoes and maybe I don't know.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Because that's what you want to do, is run from
- 17:55Speaker 1: a bear. Like, clearly we haven't done our research on bears.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Hold on, I'm not finished.
- 18:01Speaker 5: I know they're very fast, but also with like one
- 18:03Speaker 5: of those like the dog attack outfits, so that in
- 18:07Speaker 5: the event she does get mauled, she's got some protection.
- 18:10Speaker 2: The byte suit.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, the byte suit. That makes an effort here.
- 18:16Speaker 2: That I'm sorry, but that would actually make for excellent
- 18:18Speaker 2: television to send Aaron Myers out on location. And would
- 18:24Speaker 2: you just imagine you're sitting at home having your morning
- 18:26Speaker 2: coffee and you're like, I'm gonna watch KTLA today. It's
- 18:28Speaker 2: a good day, love, and they're like, now we're gonna
- 18:30Speaker 2: go to Aaron Meyers Live. And then when they show
- 18:32Speaker 2: her on camera, it's full on byte suit. Yes, yes,
- 18:35Speaker 2: i am. I am locked in all morning. I'll just
- 18:38Speaker 2: carry that live all day. Maybe a helmet, oh, definitely,
- 18:43Speaker 2: a helmet.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Screw the byte suit if you're gonna do that, because
- 18:46Speaker 1: then it's multipurpose. Put them in a bomb bomb suit, yeah, okay,
- 18:51Speaker 1: because then they can go to the you know, potential
- 18:54Speaker 1: bombing targets, and then that's for the.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Story afterwards, it works for both.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I agree, that makes sense.
- 19:00Speaker 6: Uh.
- 19:00Speaker 2: And then if you just want to really go ridiculous,
- 19:03Speaker 2: you cut to her and she's in a full like
- 19:05Speaker 2: medieval night get up. So then that way she can
- 19:08Speaker 2: go through her shift at medieval times.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Afterwards with some chain mail.
- 19:11Speaker 2: With some chain mail, absolutely you got to protect yourself
- 19:14Speaker 2: from the bear. That would make for good TV. It'd
- 19:16Speaker 2: be dumb, but that's what I want to watch.
- 19:18Speaker 1: And clearly LA does as good of a job at
- 19:22Speaker 1: bear traps as they do at fire prevention.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Like what Like, I want to know what was in
- 19:29Speaker 2: that bear trap to entice the bear that the bear
- 19:32Speaker 2: went up to. It was like nah, and it just
- 19:34Speaker 2: continued on down the street.
- 19:36Speaker 1: And had they just put a twink in there, they
- 19:37Speaker 1: would have got them.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Could have said twinkie, But you stayed with the Texas
- 19:47Speaker 2: bear around that breath. Thumbs up, buddy, same okay. So
- 19:52Speaker 2: if I was to tell you that in a survey
- 19:55Speaker 2: a few years ago done by you govs so very official,
- 19:58Speaker 2: that six percent of a Americans think they could beat
- 20:01Speaker 2: a grizzly bear in a fight, would you believe me? M?
- 20:06Speaker 1: Six percent? Yeah?
- 20:08Speaker 2: Six percent? You hang on hang on, I just I
- 20:11Speaker 2: forgot I have this. Believe it or not. Six percent
- 20:19Speaker 2: of Americans think they could beat a grizzly bear in
- 20:22Speaker 2: a fight.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I believe that right.
- 20:27Speaker 1: The only reason I don't believe it is I just
- 20:29Speaker 1: think there's a greater chunk of the population that's dumb,
- 20:32Speaker 1: so I would think the number would be higher.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Balance.
- 20:35Speaker 2: That is alarming and it feels right. Uh, Rebecca takes
- 20:41Speaker 2: this one. Uh, technically correct. Believe it. Six percent of
- 20:45Speaker 2: Americans think they could beat a grizzly bear in a fight.
- 20:49Speaker 1: But almost half think they could land a jet.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Yes, in an emergency. In an emergency, could land a
- 20:56Speaker 2: commercial jet. To be fair, there are thousands of experts
- 21:01Speaker 2: that could talk you through landing a commercial jet in
- 21:04Speaker 2: a crisis. I don't know if there's any quote unquote
- 21:07Speaker 2: expert that could talk you through a bear mauling.
- 21:11Speaker 5: Technically, yes, I could probably land a jet, but it's
- 21:14Speaker 5: also gonna flip and roll at the end.
- 21:17Speaker 2: It'll reach the ground, Yeah, it'll get there.
- 21:20Speaker 4: Ye. Safely is questionable.
- 21:22Speaker 1: If landing is a subjective term, then yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Absolutely yeah. When you approach the person when you ask
- 21:29Speaker 2: that in the survey, like if it was me, and
- 21:31Speaker 2: they're asking, could you land a jet? I would respond back,
- 21:34Speaker 2: you mean land to jet or air quote land correct.
- 21:39Speaker 2: So I don't know what's more alarming on this study
- 21:43Speaker 2: the fact that six percent of Americans think they could
- 21:45Speaker 2: beat a grizzly bear in a fight, or that only
- 21:48Speaker 2: sixty one percent of Americans could beat a goose in
- 21:52Speaker 2: a fight.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 21:55Speaker 5: Geese are mean, man, really, I don't think I could
- 22:00Speaker 5: beat a goose.
- 22:01Speaker 4: They're scary. Are you attacked by one?
- 22:03Speaker 2: I've been attacked by a swan and I live to
- 22:06Speaker 2: tell the tale. I won that fight sort of sort
- 22:09Speaker 2: of sort of asterisk sort of it did and I
- 22:12Speaker 2: ran away, or you.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Just, you know, just grab it by the neck.
- 22:20Speaker 5: I don't know if I could do that, though, that
- 22:24Speaker 5: would make me sad.
- 22:26Speaker 2: So in the same survey, six percent of Americans think
- 22:29Speaker 2: they could beat a grizzly bear in a fight. Seventy
- 22:32Speaker 2: two percent of Americans think they could take a rat.
- 22:36Speaker 2: I'm assuming that the twenty eight percent that said they
- 22:39Speaker 2: couldn't are just going to be catatonic or phobic and
- 22:42Speaker 2: they just wouldn't be able to function.
- 22:44Speaker 4: I guess right.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Sixty nine percent feel they could take a house cat. Okay,
- 22:52Speaker 2: so you know, thirty one percent of people feel like
- 22:54Speaker 2: they couldn't. Sixty one percent feel they could take on
- 22:58Speaker 2: a goose. Fortn think they could beat a medium sized dog.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I think that just depends on the dog. Thir of
- 23:06Speaker 2: Americans think they could beat an eagle in a fight. Now,
- 23:10Speaker 2: if we're talking about an actual bird of prey, we're
- 23:13Speaker 2: talking about the radio station that that numbers should be
- 23:16Speaker 2: way higher because everybody's beating them.
- 23:21Speaker 1: What kind of eagle harpy no, probably gonna lose all?
- 23:30Speaker 4: Is that a really big one that can pick up
- 23:31Speaker 4: like a dog off the ground.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Okay, I'm not familiar with the different breeds of eagle.
- 23:36Speaker 2: The only eagles I know of are the bald eagle
- 23:39Speaker 2: and I think the golden eagle. So what's a what's
- 23:43Speaker 2: a harpy eagle?
- 23:46Speaker 1: It's king of the eagles. It's it's got like a
- 23:50Speaker 1: I forgot how big. It's like a seven or eight
- 23:52Speaker 1: foot wingspan that they can they can pick up like
- 23:57Speaker 1: they're they're at slent hunters.
- 24:02Speaker 4: That's my thing.
- 24:02Speaker 5: How much weight can they pick up with their claws?
- 24:04Speaker 5: Because if it's like I would say even over thirty pounds.
- 24:08Speaker 4: I'm toast.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Yeah, are we talking like picking up toddlers?
- 24:14Speaker 1: Probably Jesus, Yeah.
- 24:16Speaker 4: I don't want to fight that. I'll just let it be.
- 24:19Speaker 2: So the one we talked about yesterday Tray was seventeen
- 24:23Speaker 2: percent of Americans and specifically twenty two percent of men,
- 24:28Speaker 2: think they could take a chimpanzee, which we know is
- 24:30Speaker 2: absolute nonsense.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Ain't no way, but see that that number is in
- 24:35Speaker 1: line with the number of if you said, you know
- 24:39Speaker 1: what percentage of people are absolutely a thing stupid twenty percent.
- 24:46Speaker 2: That's one of me.
- 24:47Speaker 1: That's why, that's why the bear numbers surprises me.
- 24:50Speaker 2: You know what, I think. I'm kind of with you there,
- 24:52Speaker 2: but this one, this one surprises me. The next one.
- 24:55Speaker 2: So seventeen percent of Americans, twenty two percent of men
- 24:57Speaker 2: think they could take a chimpanzee. Next up on the
- 25:00Speaker 2: list the king cobra. No, fifteen percent of Americans think
- 25:05Speaker 2: they could take a king cobra in a fight, and
- 25:08Speaker 2: I feel like that number should be higher. I could
- 25:10Speaker 2: take a king cobra in a fight. I think I
- 25:13Speaker 2: feel like I would stand a way better chance at
- 25:15Speaker 2: the king cobra than most of the other animals we've mentioned.
- 25:18Speaker 4: What's your tactic. I'm curious because those things are freaking fast.
- 25:22Speaker 4: They're not I thought they were.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Now here's the thing with cobra's. Whereas cobras don't, like
- 25:28Speaker 1: a rattle steak, can strike from feet away, the cobras
- 25:32Speaker 1: raise up because basically all they can do is fall
- 25:35Speaker 1: over on you.
- 25:35Speaker 4: Oh, I didn't know that. I thought they struck.
- 25:38Speaker 1: At They are fast as far as on the ground,
- 25:40Speaker 1: but as far as their striking ability, okay, it's it's
- 25:43Speaker 1: very different.
- 25:45Speaker 2: And we know this from working in radio. The day
- 25:49Speaker 2: that we decided to bring a cobra to the radio
- 25:52Speaker 2: station to terrorize our program director, it was a great
- 25:54Speaker 2: day for us. It was terrible day for Gavin. But
- 25:57Speaker 2: that's when that's when I learned that, Yeah, cobras don't
- 25:59Speaker 2: act strike, They just kind of fall forward. Of course,
- 26:02Speaker 2: we didn't tell our boss.
- 26:04Speaker 1: That, or that had been defanged, didn't tell them that either.
- 26:10Speaker 2: You are so mean pretty much, aren't you glad we
- 26:14Speaker 2: do this show remotely? Rebecca?
- 26:15Speaker 4: Yea, thank you, I'll think, but you.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Can never be too sure.

- 27:29Speaker 2: Treehouse on Air. Back inside the Treehouse, Dan Trey and
- 27:33Speaker 2: Rebecca coming off the Great Animal Debate, which is still
- 27:39Speaker 2: shocking on so many levels. Here's one that is also shocking,
- 27:42Speaker 2: but it's not really a debate. It's just a statistic
- 27:45Speaker 2: that is alarming. The average date in America. The average
- 27:51Speaker 2: date in America now costs one hundred and eighty nine dollars,
- 27:56Speaker 2: which is up twelve and a half percent year over year.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Now that's crazy to me and Rebecca. You and I
- 28:08Speaker 2: have been out of the dating pool for a very
- 28:10Speaker 2: long time. I have not been on a first date
- 28:13Speaker 2: since two thousand and nine. Trey, you are in a relationship,
- 28:19Speaker 2: but it is new, which means you've been on a
- 28:20Speaker 2: first date in the last year. How do you remember
- 28:26Speaker 2: how much your first date with Brandy cost?
- 28:32Speaker 1: First date wasn't that? Here's the big X factor on
- 28:36Speaker 1: this whole subject is alcohol. But I that that number
- 28:44Speaker 1: doesn't surprise me at all. Like, you go on a date, dinner,
- 28:50Speaker 1: a few drinks, Yeah, you're easily going to be and
- 28:53Speaker 1: you throw in tip, maybe go to a second bar,
- 28:56Speaker 1: have another round of drinks. You're easy at that. You bucks.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I think the first date I had with Brandy, neither
- 29:03Speaker 1: one of us drank, so it was probably, you know,
- 29:07Speaker 1: still seven eight bucks forty five dollars.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, because I'm assuming you went to a decent restaurant.
- 29:14Speaker 2: I'm sure you get actually to like someplace crazy fancy,
- 29:18Speaker 2: but it's not like you took her to Applebee's.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Actually we went to this, uh, this great little Mexican
- 29:25Speaker 1: joint called the Villa's and but still you get a
- 29:29Speaker 1: couple of you know, ordered some caeso and a couple
- 29:35Speaker 1: of entrees you're still looking at and with tip, I
- 29:38Speaker 1: probably close to sixty bucks.
- 29:41Speaker 2: I mean still, that's a lot better than you know,
- 29:43Speaker 2: nearly two.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Hundred f sixty is more normal than one hundred and eighty.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Like, yeah, but that's no drinks like eighties, like.
- 29:51Speaker 5: Anniversary type date like Milestone, right? Or am I just
- 29:56Speaker 5: that old and cheap?
- 30:00Speaker 2: I think Trey's right. I think it's a combination of age. Yeah,
- 30:04Speaker 2: and that's how long it's been since we've been out
- 30:06Speaker 2: on a early in the relationship date.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Think about it, especially if you have drinks, like a
- 30:16Speaker 1: drink right now, and this is why restaurants and bars
- 30:19Speaker 1: are going under so fast. A drink right now probably
- 30:22Speaker 1: averages any place you go. I mean, beer is probably
- 30:27Speaker 1: going to be seven eight bucks. A mixed drink is
- 30:29Speaker 1: probably going to be around fourteen. Yeah, so you throw
- 30:32Speaker 1: in to a piece, you're now at another sixty bucks
- 30:38Speaker 1: and that's just one spot.
- 30:41Speaker 4: Sorry, daters, that sucks.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Oh, it's it's yet another reason I love, Yes, yes,
- 30:50Speaker 2: our budget loves being married.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Right.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Look, look, if we're being honest, dating's always been expensive.
- 30:59Speaker 2: It's just I think with the times that we're living
- 31:02Speaker 2: in and training. You and I've talked about this a lot,
- 31:06Speaker 2: everything's getting more expensive, but wages haven't necessarily kept up,
- 31:11Speaker 2: So everything is more expensive and feels more expensive because
- 31:14Speaker 2: we're not all making the same money we were. So
- 31:16Speaker 2: like when I went last went on a first date
- 31:19Speaker 2: in two thousand and nine, Well, no, I was poor
- 31:21Speaker 2: then too, So.
- 31:23Speaker 1: No, what listen, it's it's the biggest thing is after
- 31:27Speaker 1: COVID and all these places got shut down, then everyone
- 31:31Speaker 1: came back, and you have a combination of people trying
- 31:34Speaker 1: to make their money back from being shut down and inflation.
- 31:37Speaker 1: At the time, prices skyrocketed. And now they haven't, you know,
- 31:41Speaker 1: as no one thought they would. They haven't come back down.
- 31:45Speaker 1: And but yeah, no, it is ridiculously. I spent I
- 31:51Speaker 1: got takeout there's from a Mexican place around me that
- 31:55Speaker 1: I hadn't been to before. Ordered some Caeso chicken, flottas
- 32:01Speaker 1: and chips and salsa. Okay, I went and picked it up.
- 32:06Speaker 1: No delivery, okay, forty five dollars.
- 32:10Speaker 6: No.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Give me that.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Give me that order again.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Queso Chicken floutas and.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Chips and salsa chips with a fifteen percent tip forty
- 32:23Speaker 1: five dollars.
- 32:24Speaker 4: This is where I'm like Costco Costco hot dog dollar
- 32:28Speaker 4: fifty with a soda.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Ultimate date, Sam's better hot dog?
- 32:32Speaker 5: Oh, I like Sam's too. Don't get either one either.
- 32:34Speaker 5: Hot dog is delicious for me. I will take either.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Oh why aye, ladies, if you want, if you want
- 32:38Speaker 2: him to put a ring on it, you go on
- 32:39Speaker 2: that first date, go on that first date, and you
- 32:44Speaker 2: just let you focus on the chemistry. Yeah, and not worried,
- 32:48Speaker 2: not worried about all the other crap. Then that's yeah,
- 32:52Speaker 2: what happened to like.
- 32:53Speaker 4: The coffee first date where you're just going and you're
- 32:55Speaker 4: getting coffee and it costs you, like less than twenty
- 32:58Speaker 4: dollars and you get to know each other? What happened
- 33:00Speaker 4: to that?
- 33:01Speaker 2: So that's where I'm wondering if maybe this study might
- 33:04Speaker 2: be a little off because different people have different ideas
- 33:07Speaker 2: of a first date.
- 33:08Speaker 6: Yeah, So.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Is your actual first date when you actually go and
- 33:14Speaker 2: get the cup of coffee or do you consider your
- 33:17Speaker 2: first real date to be the time you go out
- 33:20Speaker 2: after you've had the cup of coffee?
- 33:22Speaker 1: Yeah? I think the coffee is more of a meet
- 33:27Speaker 1: and get to know you, not really a date.
- 33:29Speaker 2: That's what dating is like. The coffee the coffee date
- 33:33Speaker 2: is sort of a pre date.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Yeah, but you got to remember though, most people dating now,
- 33:40Speaker 1: if you're thinking about going back to when we were
- 33:43Speaker 1: in our twenties, that was you probably met in a
- 33:46Speaker 1: bar and so you actually hadn't met and then you know,
- 33:49Speaker 1: maybe yeah, you consider that a first date. Now most
- 33:51Speaker 1: of them are meeting online, so the first interaction is
- 33:56Speaker 1: more of a let's go someplace in public and let's
- 33:58Speaker 1: feel each other out. So that's where I think the
- 34:01Speaker 1: coffee is. The let's get a cup of coffee comes
- 34:03Speaker 1: into play.
- 34:04Speaker 2: And I wonder if if that and this is kind
- 34:07Speaker 2: of going back to like a gen Z type mindset
- 34:09Speaker 2: I'm imagining, actually no any age group, because you meet
- 34:13Speaker 2: people these days. You meet people these days more commonly online,
- 34:18Speaker 2: so it's usually through a dating app or whatever. So
- 34:20Speaker 2: a lot of the stuff you might talk about on
- 34:23Speaker 2: a coffee date you're talking about via text through the
- 34:27Speaker 2: app or actual text through your phone. So maybe so
- 34:31Speaker 2: the first time you meet up, you don't need the
- 34:33Speaker 2: coffee date, so you go straight to dinner in a
- 34:36Speaker 2: movie or whatever for a few hours, so that that
- 34:39Speaker 2: could be why the first date. Another reason why the
- 34:41Speaker 2: first date is more expensive because you're skipping over certain
- 34:45Speaker 2: you know, earlier dates.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Chances are a first date if if you like the person,
- 34:52Speaker 1: especially for guys, you're going to try to show off
- 34:55Speaker 1: a little bit, take into someplace memorable, and and you
- 34:58Speaker 1: have a memorable night. Memory cost is so memorable.
- 35:03Speaker 2: I'm wither Rebecka on that.
- 35:04Speaker 4: One, like I would remember that forever.
- 35:07Speaker 2: And honestly, it's like, it doesn't have to be, you know,
- 35:11Speaker 2: a Costco or a Sam's hot Dog date night. Oh,
- 35:14Speaker 2: but you can find the date that is sort of
- 35:17Speaker 2: your red flag green flag date. It's a litmus test date,
- 35:21Speaker 2: so it's your standard thing. I'm gonna see if this
- 35:23Speaker 2: person is really my person by taking them to what
- 35:27Speaker 2: I think they're either gonna love or hate. If they
- 35:30Speaker 2: hate it, then we both know that there's no reason
- 35:32Speaker 2: for date number two. If we both love it, then
- 35:34Speaker 2: green flags all around and everyone eats a hot dog.
- 35:37Speaker 1: That was listen the Old Loon. That was my best
- 35:41Speaker 1: first date spot because either they girls would turn up
- 35:45Speaker 1: their nose and be like ooh, or if they sit
- 35:47Speaker 1: down and enjoy it. They're like, oh, the food's great,
- 35:49Speaker 1: and you know it's a strong drink and a good time.
- 35:52Speaker 1: That was a great litmus test. Those days are long.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Gone, I know.
- 35:56Speaker 5: I think it's wild that everybody expects the first date
- 35:59Speaker 5: to be just something ridiculous and insane and spend all
- 36:01Speaker 5: of this money. And I'm like, you're not here for
- 36:03Speaker 5: the food. You're here to get to know somebody else.
- 36:06Speaker 5: That's what it should be about, not all the other stuff.
- 36:08Speaker 5: So what does it matter where you're at.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Right.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Unless maybe you really are just out for a free meal.
- 36:15Speaker 5: I mean, which I have definitely heard some ladies do that,
- 36:20Speaker 5: trying to get the most expensive meal they can possibly
- 36:22Speaker 5: get and eat free.
- 36:23Speaker 4: For a week.
- 36:23Speaker 2: So yeah, but you know what, for for every ten
- 36:26Speaker 2: of those, there's there's gonna be one guy that's doing
- 36:28Speaker 2: the same thing. Haha. Turn the tables on your lady, I.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Mean, and it is probably it's probably a good lesson.
- 36:39Speaker 1: It is all probably overboard. And if you're a guy,
- 36:44Speaker 1: you know, taking them to someplace just normal. Yeah, and
- 36:47Speaker 1: again if they turn up their nose at it, then
- 36:49Speaker 1: you know, all right, she's gonna be a high maintenance
- 36:51Speaker 1: pain in the ass.
- 36:52Speaker 5: Like, Yeah, you could easily do Chili's, Olive Garden, any
- 36:54Speaker 5: of the regular eating establishments.
- 36:56Speaker 4: They don't have to be the fanciest of the fancist.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Oh and I'm just thinking about what I might have
- 37:02Speaker 2: accomplished if I had taken my wife to Olive Garden
- 37:04Speaker 2: on our first date. Oh wait, no, she's given me
- 37:09Speaker 2: the scal I forgot she worked there for many, many years.
- 37:11Speaker 2: That would have been bad.
- 37:14Speaker 5: I was about to ask if your first date with
- 37:16Speaker 5: your wife is it a step up from Olive Garden
- 37:18Speaker 5: or was it a step down from Olive Garden?
- 37:20Speaker 2: It was definitely a step up as far as as
- 37:25Speaker 2: far as I'm trying to think of the word.
- 37:28Speaker 1: You're trying to think of the word because she's in
- 37:30Speaker 1: the room show.
- 37:34Speaker 4: Yes, tray is correct.
- 37:36Speaker 2: No, it is not correct.
- 37:37Speaker 4: No, Oh, you have to be all careful around the
- 37:39Speaker 4: wife right now.
- 37:41Speaker 2: No, it's because I can't think of the exact word
- 37:43Speaker 2: I want. What I'm trying to say is this, for
- 37:45Speaker 2: our first date, it was better than Olive Garden. It
- 37:48Speaker 2: had more pizazz than Olive Garden, but we still it
- 37:53Speaker 2: was actually cheaper than Olive Garden.
- 37:56Speaker 4: Oh okay, so.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Here's what I was able to do. I had for
- 37:59Speaker 2: our first date. I had just started working at one
- 38:01Speaker 2: O five to three the Fan. So for our first date,
- 38:04Speaker 2: we went to a Frisco Roughriders game. Oh fun, tickets
- 38:08Speaker 2: free from the radio station. That's great and better than
- 38:11Speaker 2: Olive Garden. And the tickets that we got came with
- 38:14Speaker 2: a pregame buffet at inside the Diamond Club, which also
- 38:19Speaker 2: included hot dogs. So more pizazz than Olive Garden, yeah,
- 38:24Speaker 2: but cheaper.
- 38:27Speaker 1: I like it.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Well done, Yeah, well done, Dan, good.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Job, thank you very much. So on you Tree and
- 38:35Speaker 2: you know what on YouTube, Rebecca for dog piling whatever,
- 38:40Speaker 2: I'll take it.
- 38:41Speaker 4: I don't care.
- 38:45Speaker 2: That that that to me. I think that that was.
- 38:50Speaker 6: To me.
- 38:50Speaker 2: That's kind of an all time first date because, like
- 38:52Speaker 2: I said, you get to have something like a fun,
- 38:54Speaker 2: memorable experience and it didn't cost me an arm and
- 38:57Speaker 2: a leg, which is great because I had just gotten
- 38:59Speaker 2: that job. So I mean, I was just coming off
- 39:02Speaker 2: of unemployment. You needed some help, and so it worked out.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and then I got choked and then I
- 39:10Speaker 2: got choked out by the mascot.
- 39:11Speaker 4: Oh nice on purpose.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Well not on my part, that's what I mean. I
- 39:18Speaker 2: had brought a blanket just in it May. It was
- 39:21Speaker 2: May fourth, two thousand and nine, and so I didn't
- 39:24Speaker 2: know if it was going to be cold, so I
- 39:25Speaker 2: brought a blanket just in case. And then one of
- 39:27Speaker 2: the mascots came over and then, I guess was making
- 39:30Speaker 2: fun of me, picked up the blanket that was sitting
- 39:31Speaker 2: on the seat next to me and put it over
- 39:33Speaker 2: me as if to say, oh, you must be cold,
- 39:35Speaker 2: and in doing so.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Was cutting off the circulation into my neck.
- 39:41Speaker 2: So technically I got choked out on my first date
- 39:43Speaker 2: with my wife, just you know, not by her.
- 39:46Speaker 1: That was the second date.
- 39:51Speaker 2: I knew you'd have something. Hang, I'm curious, Rebecca, what
- 40:00Speaker 2: was your first day with your husband?
- 40:02Speaker 5: It technically was like on Valentine's and it was in
- 40:05Speaker 5: the afternoon, early lunch at Louby's.
- 40:08Speaker 4: I paid.
- 40:09Speaker 2: By the way, Oh, there need to be there need
- 40:13Speaker 2: to be statues in honor of your husband.
- 40:16Speaker 4: He loves loubies. We love lubies.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Well, there's nothing wrong with that. I'm just saying the
- 40:22Speaker 2: fact that a late lunch at Louby's and you paid
- 40:27Speaker 2: for it, and you guys are married.
- 40:30Speaker 5: Yep, we've been married for God it'll be almost in
- 40:33Speaker 5: nineteen years, twenty years.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, your husband, Oh my god, he is.
- 40:43Speaker 6: Well.
- 40:44Speaker 2: I don't think we've yeah, I don't know if we've
- 40:45Speaker 2: ever done this inside the Treehouse, but I think it's
- 40:48Speaker 2: time that we goat our first person, and it is
- 40:51Speaker 2: mister black.
- 40:53Speaker 4: Oh thank you for saying that. That's not his last name.
- 40:57Speaker 4: He hates it when he gets called mister Black.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Well, I don't want to piss him off. Because any man,
- 41:06Speaker 2: any man that takes a potential, any man that takes
- 41:08Speaker 2: a date to Lubies when the sun is up and
- 41:13Speaker 2: is not to be messed with. Yeah, wow, what did
- 41:19Speaker 2: you say, Trey and gets her to pay and get
- 41:22Speaker 2: her to pay, Yeah, I paid.
- 41:24Speaker 4: That's right.
- 41:25Speaker 1: It's a player.
- 41:30Speaker 2: He was that day, that day.
- 41:32Speaker 4: One time.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Uh huh. That's all it takes, man, One time. All
- 41:37Speaker 2: it takes is one ring to forever be known as
- 41:41Speaker 2: a champion, and that is your husband. For all things
