- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture
- 0:08Speaker 2: news twice a week.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm Sophie Torber. And I'm Kate Torber. And coming up
- 0:13Speaker 1: on today's show, Sky Wheatley admits she's hit rock bottom
- 0:16Speaker 1: after being charged with drink driving. And the Aussie mummy
- 0:20Speaker 1: blogger's own Wagga for Christy style drama. But first, Matt
- 0:24Speaker 1: Hay has put Australian influencers on notice for not being
- 0:28Speaker 1: up to scratch. The Australian content creator and podcaster best
- 0:31Speaker 1: known as All Right Hey said this to his 431,000 followers.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I'll say what everyone's thinking. There's too many influencers and
- 0:39Speaker 3: you're all fucking boring. Where is the personality? Bring back
- 0:43Speaker 3: being interesting. I don't need to see another boost juice
- 0:48Speaker 3: taste test review of the Air One dupes. I want
- 0:51Speaker 3: the internet to be as unhinged as Tana Mongeau getting
- 0:54Speaker 3: fucked by a toothbrush.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I have to second what Matt said and I've been
- 0:58Speaker 2: thinking this for a while now. I mean, we obviously
- 1:00Speaker 2: have an influencer podcast and I would have to say
- 1:04Speaker 2: the stories that we were covering back in 2019 when
- 1:07Speaker 2: we first started were far more out there and crazy
- 1:11Speaker 2: than what we talk about now.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I have to say Tammy Hembrough must have sore shoulders
- 1:15Speaker 1: because she has definitely been been carrying the load for
- 1:18Speaker 1: the other influencers. She has been delivering some absolutely gold
- 1:22Speaker 1: stories across the last couple of years, but other influencers
- 1:26Speaker 1: have been letting us down. They need to pick up
- 1:28Speaker 1: the slack.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I mean, we often cop criticism for talking a lot
- 1:31Speaker 2: about Tammy Hembrough, but it's because so many other influencers,
- 1:34Speaker 2: as Matt said, are fucking boring.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And the thing is, I feel partly.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Responsible though, because I do think a lot of the
- 1:41Speaker 2: reasons why so many influencers have become boring is because
- 1:44Speaker 2: they don't want to be put up on gossip forums.
- 1:47Speaker 2: They don't want to be on the watchdog accounts. They
- 1:49Speaker 2: don't want the mainstream media picking up on things that
- 1:52Speaker 2: they do. I wonder if there's also a level of
- 1:54Speaker 2: embarrassment because they know that their family and friends are
- 1:57Speaker 2: also watching them. Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I mean, for those not across the Tana Mongeau reference,
- 2:01Speaker 1: Matt was referring to this infamous 2016 YouTube that she
- 2:05Speaker 1: uploaded where she spoke about a high school rumor that
- 2:08Speaker 1: someone started about her and her toothbrush. The YouTube was titled,
- 2:12Speaker 1: I got banged with the toothbrush story time. And you
- 2:15Speaker 1: better believe that clickbait headline generated a lot of views.
- 2:18Speaker 1: It's had 7.4 million views since it was uploaded. Now,
- 2:21Speaker 1: Tana uploaded that video in 2026. Can you imagine the
- 2:25Speaker 1: media headlines? But there wouldn't have been any 10 years
- 2:28Speaker 1: ago because media weren't across the influencer space.
- 2:31Speaker 2: It is wild to think about how much the influencer
- 2:33Speaker 2: landscape has changed because really before it was a group
- 2:37Speaker 2: of teenagers who were sitting in their bedrooms speaking.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Directly to a camera. they felt pretty.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Confident in knowing it was just their followers who were
- 2:45Speaker 2: hearing their stories. They would never have dreamed that large-scale
- 2:48Speaker 2: news outlets would pick up on these like they are
- 2:51Speaker 2: doing a decade later.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Well, influencer Bella Messina actually commented something quite similar to
- 2:56Speaker 1: your sentiment, Sophie, on Matt's video. So she wrote, being
- 2:59Speaker 1: unhinged is fun until you have to deal with real-life consequences.
- 3:03Speaker 1: People forget the cardinal rule of everything stays on the
- 3:05Speaker 1: silly little phone and we don't talk about it in
- 3:07Speaker 1: real life. And that's essentially what happened before, I'd say, 2020.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I think the pandemic and people being at home and
- 3:14Speaker 1: really being invested on what was going on in their
- 3:16Speaker 1: phones changed everything.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's because the sentiment also really shifted with influencers. Pre-2020,
- 3:23Speaker 2: I felt like it was this sort of make-believe fun
- 3:26Speaker 2: land where you could really get lost in the escapism
- 3:29Speaker 2: of it all. But when 2020 hit, everyone suddenly turned
- 3:33Speaker 2: on influencers and started hating their guts and everything that
- 3:36Speaker 2: they did became a news headline.
- 3:37Speaker 1: It's funny you say that because Matt posted a follow-up
- 3:40Speaker 1: video where he said he wanted to bring back influencers
- 3:43Speaker 1: being out of touch. And he said he would eat
- 3:45Speaker 1: up and influence a brand trip to the Maldives and
- 3:48Speaker 1: then getting gifted $ 10, 000 worth of free products. And it
- 3:51Speaker 1: was all about escapism at the time. It was like,
- 3:54Speaker 1: we weren't actually jealous because it was only happening to,
- 3:57Speaker 1: as Matt also touched on, there were like 20 influencers then.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Now there are 2000. So I think back then we
- 4:03Speaker 1: saw influencers as celebrities, but now because the industry is
- 4:07Speaker 1: so saturated with influencers, it's kind of like, oh, well,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I could be an influencer and I'm just like them.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Why aren't I getting this stuff? I disagree.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I reckon the reason why we didn't have such an
- 4:17Speaker 2: issue with it a decade ago was because we felt
- 4:20Speaker 2: like influencers were the girl next door and our best
- 4:23Speaker 2: buddies because it wasn't seen as this huge industry.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that it definitely was an element of that.
- 4:31Speaker 1: But I also think it was like these lucky few,
- 4:34Speaker 1: like you really have to be on your game and
- 4:37Speaker 1: be in that top echelon to get that. It's not
- 4:39Speaker 1: like everyone is being treated like that.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yeah, because now there's a lot of micro-influencers who really
- 4:45Speaker 2: get showered in free gifts and admiration as well.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And a lot of money. And let's not pretend that
- 4:51Speaker 1: that doesn't have anything to do with influencers sanitizing themselves
- 4:54Speaker 1: because brands don't want to work with controversial influencers. It
- 4:57Speaker 1: damages their brands. But ironically, audiences are getting fed up
- 5:02Speaker 1: with boring influencers and they want the controversy. And it
- 5:04Speaker 1: makes me think, well, what's the longevity of the influencer industry?
- 5:07Speaker 1: Are we going to see influencers having to turn to
- 5:11Speaker 1: subscription channels rather than making money off advertising dollars. That
- 5:14Speaker 1: way they can actually be a bit more interesting and controversial.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Well, ironically, it was two influencers who make a hell
- 5:20Speaker 2: of a lot of money off subscription platforms who weighed
- 5:23Speaker 2: in under Matt's post. So Michaela Testa wrote, I'm trying
- 5:26Speaker 2: my best while Veruca Salt added, I'm holding it down
- 5:29Speaker 2: as best I can. And Matt replied, and thank God, girl.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And again, I think that Michaela and Veruca can be
- 5:37Speaker 2: controversial and.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Really out there. because they don't have to rely on advertising. Also,
- 5:42Speaker 1: both of them have done stints in the US, so
- 5:44Speaker 1: they would be making money from the US creator fund.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Maybe that's what we need to make things interesting in Australia,
- 5:50Speaker 2: an Australian creator fund, because then people aren't relying on advertisers.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Well, that's exactly what I was thinking, because at the moment,
- 5:56Speaker 1: Australian content creators don't get paid for how many views
- 5:59Speaker 1: they generate. They're having to rely on brand deals. So
- 6:02Speaker 1: TikTok Australia, if you're listening, can you please bring in
- 6:05Speaker 1: the creator fund? Us audiences need it. We want some controversy.
- 6:10Speaker 4: I'm still yet to work out like what the purpose
- 6:13Speaker 4: was for that because I'm like, what's this person getting
- 6:17Speaker 4: out of that?
- 6:18Speaker 2: Sky Wheatley has spoken out after being charged with drink driving.
- 6:22Speaker 2: The former Big Brother contestant told her 618,000 Instagram followers
- 6:27Speaker 2: she's hit rock bottom but is undertaking counselling. Kate, can
- 6:30Speaker 2: you take us back to the start when the incident
- 6:32Speaker 2: took place?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so two Saturday nights ago, Sky was breathalysed outside
- 6:36Speaker 1: a Gold Coast McDonald's. Now, according to reports, she'd been
- 6:39Speaker 1: parked outside the fast food restaurant for four hours trying
- 6:43Speaker 1: to sober up when a passerby contacted the police. Once
- 6:47Speaker 1: police arrived, she allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading more
- 6:50Speaker 1: than double over the legal limit. It was actually the.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Daily Mail who broke the news first behind a paywall,
- 6:57Speaker 2: but it didn't take long for other media outlets to
- 6:59Speaker 2: pick up on the story.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Now, while Sky is.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Yet to publicly confirm the charges, In the aftermath, she
- 7:06Speaker 2: told her followers she had the worst two days of
- 7:08Speaker 2: her life. She also went on to say, I'm realizing
- 7:12Speaker 2: how horrible and scary people can be in this world.
- 7:15Speaker 1: At the time she made those comments, it was unclear
- 7:17Speaker 1: who she was referring to. However, on Thursday night, she
- 7:21Speaker 1: took to her Instagram story after a counseling session. In
- 7:24Speaker 1: a 14-minute address to the camera, she revealed that someone
- 7:27Speaker 1: on her Instagram close friends leaked personal information about her
- 7:32Speaker 1: to the Daily Mail. Now, she refused to name the
- 7:35Speaker 1: person but said she was naive to trust them and
- 7:37Speaker 1: now realizes they have, quote, screws loose. Let's take a
- 7:41Speaker 1: listen to more of what she said.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Basically, they took all of my close friend's mental breakdown
- 7:47Speaker 4: shit to Daily Mail and they deny it, but it's facts.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Like, I know. I'm not stupid.
- 7:56Speaker 4: I'm still yet to work out, like, what the purpose
- 7:59Speaker 4: was for that because I'm like, what's this person getting
- 8:02Speaker 4: out of that?
- 8:03Speaker 5: Because I don't think they would have got paid. Maybe.
- 8:07Speaker 5: I would love that for some closure. I would love
- 8:10Speaker 5: to know if, like, they were dishing dirt and then
- 8:14Speaker 5: getting money for it.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Because, yeah, that would make sense. But, like, if they're
- 8:20Speaker 4: just giving information to Daily Mail for.
- 8:23Speaker 6: No reason, just to, I don't know, fuck with people's
- 8:28Speaker 6: heads or try to ruin someone's life, or whatever the
- 8:32Speaker 6: fuck they were trying to do, it.
- 8:34Speaker 5: Just doesn't make sense to me. Like, it just, I
- 8:38Speaker 5: sat there for, when it happened, I was like, but why?
- 8:43Speaker 5: But why? Now I'm like, I could not give a
- 8:46Speaker 5: fuck why.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Look, awful to have your trust betrayed like that.
- 8:50Speaker 2: But one thing I will never understand is why people,
- 8:54Speaker 2: in particular influencers, want to jump on their close friends
- 8:58Speaker 2: list and divulge all of this personal drama. Like if
- 9:02Speaker 2: I was pulled over by the police, I wouldn't want
- 9:05Speaker 2: to jump on my story and talk to my, you know,
- 9:08Speaker 2: 50 close friends about it.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I wouldn't want anyone to know about it. Look, I
- 9:12Speaker 1: thought the same thing. I would never do it, but
- 9:13Speaker 1: we've got to remember Sky Wheatley. She's been sharing her
- 9:16Speaker 1: life online for the past 10 plus years. She was
- 9:19Speaker 1: on Big Brother. She doesn't really have many inhibitions. And
- 9:22Speaker 1: I think that she's just so used to talking to
- 9:23Speaker 1: the camera and sort of venting on there that that's
- 9:27Speaker 1: probably why she did it.
- 9:28Speaker 2: It just doesn't make sense to me. Like, yeah, if
- 9:29Speaker 2: something bad like this happened, maybe I'd ring up my
- 9:31Speaker 2: mom or my best friend or you guys, but I
- 9:33Speaker 2: wouldn't really think I'm going to go on my story
- 9:36Speaker 2: and talk to my 50 close friends on Instagram.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I mean, particularly when so many influencers have been burnt.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I mean, we were only talking last week about Indie
- 9:43Speaker 1: Clinton opening up about that doghouse incident with her husband
- 9:47Speaker 1: and how someone from her close friends list leaked it
- 9:50Speaker 1: to an influencer watchdog account. It's kind of like when
- 9:53Speaker 1: influencers DM us. And they send us voice messages and,
- 9:57Speaker 1: I mean, luckily we are.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Very ethical and I would actually never, ever screen record
- 10:02Speaker 2: those to put on the show.
- 10:03Speaker 1: But sometimes you're like, God, they're handing you the material there.
- 10:07Speaker 1: There was an incident earlier this year where I'm like, God,
- 10:10Speaker 1: if we were unethical, this would have made absolute headlines.
- 10:13Speaker 1: But it seems like Sky is trying to put a
- 10:15Speaker 1: bit of a spin on this betrayal from a friend
- 10:17Speaker 1: because she said, She's no longer angry about the situation
- 10:21Speaker 1: and it's given her the wake up call she needed.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And she conceded that she had been spiraling and going
- 10:27Speaker 1: down the wrong path. And she teased that there was
- 10:29Speaker 1: a lot more to the story with this close friend,
- 10:31Speaker 1: but she won't be sharing it.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I really hope that that friend isn't Michael Finch because
- 10:35Speaker 2: we've recently spoken about how Sky and Michael have rekindled
- 10:39Speaker 2: their friendship.
- 10:39Speaker 1: They're following each other once again.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Could you imagine if this was all in a bid
- 10:44Speaker 2: to get on the close friends list just to kind.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Of reveal something. I'm a hundred percent confident it's not
- 10:49Speaker 1: Michael Finch. She actually referred to the person as a she.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I didn't think it was either, but just imagine how
- 10:54Speaker 2: classic that would be because they originally had that fight
- 10:57Speaker 2: because in Michael Finch's vlog, he included a conversation in
- 11:02Speaker 2: the car with Sky where she was talking about OnlyFans
- 11:06Speaker 2: creators and about how she would rather be an influencer
- 11:09Speaker 2: than take a vibrator to herself for money.
- 11:11Speaker 1: So imagine if he turned around and exposed something about her.
- 11:14Speaker 1: The way Sky spoke about it, I actually wouldn't be
- 11:17Speaker 1: surprised if it was someone in the industry, but not Michael.
- 11:21Speaker 1: On a more serious note, over the last week, Sky's
- 11:24Speaker 1: followers have been growing increasingly worried for her. So the
- 11:28Speaker 1: drunk driving charges come off the back of her breakup
- 11:31Speaker 1: with long-term boyfriend and baby daddy, Lockie Waugh. And on Wednesday,
- 11:35Speaker 1: before she put the full 14 minute debrief on her
- 11:38Speaker 1: Instagram story, she told her followers that she was at
- 11:41Speaker 1: a low point in her life and wants to escape,
- 11:44Speaker 1: but said it wasn't an option. Then in that 14-minute update,
- 11:48Speaker 1: she admitted that she's been manic and spoke about her
- 11:50Speaker 1: anxiety and depression. At points, it was actually quite difficult
- 11:54Speaker 1: to follow what she was saying because she was talking
- 11:57Speaker 1: in riddles and metaphors. The general gist was, though, that
- 12:01Speaker 1: she'd hit rock bottom and the only way was up
- 12:04Speaker 1: from here.
- 12:04Speaker 2: This is all very sad, and I understand that Sky
- 12:07Speaker 2: has a lot going on in the background, but drink
- 12:09Speaker 2: driving is a very serious offence with real-life consequences. There
- 12:14Speaker 2: are so many families whose lives will never be the
- 12:16Speaker 2: same again because a drink driver has taken a loved
- 12:20Speaker 2: one from them. And I just think it's very lucky
- 12:22Speaker 2: that Sky didn't injure herself or anyone else on the road.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Oh, I couldn't agree more. I do want to point
- 12:29Speaker 1: out that Sky was very remorseful in the quotes that
- 12:31Speaker 1: she gave the Daily Mail. She's also spoken about how
- 12:34Speaker 1: she's completing an online module for a therapy course that
- 12:38Speaker 1: she's been doing. And she said it was separate from
- 12:40Speaker 1: her own personal therapy. So it sounds like it could
- 12:43Speaker 1: be a mandatory course related to her drink driving charge.
- 12:47Speaker 1: And it does seem to be having a positive effect
- 12:49Speaker 1: on her because she said, It's finally made her realise
- 12:52Speaker 1: that she's been using alcohol to mask her pain and
- 12:55Speaker 1: as a coping mechanism since she was young. She also
- 12:59Speaker 1: said she now needs to learn how to sit in
- 13:00Speaker 1: her pain so she can stop being stuck in an
- 13:03Speaker 1: unhappy place. Presumably she's talking about her relationship with Lockie Waugh.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Is that how you took that?
- 13:08Speaker 2: I think it's safe to say yes. The breakup seemed
- 13:11Speaker 2: to be a long time coming and I think it
- 13:14Speaker 2: was six months ago when they initially announced their split,
- 13:17Speaker 2: but then Sky basically said they were back together because
- 13:19Speaker 2: she didn't want to sit in the pain of it
- 13:21Speaker 2: for too long.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yeah. So it kind of makes sense.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I mean, I wasn't sure if this next bit was
- 13:26Speaker 2: a potshot at Lockie or another family member, because while
- 13:29Speaker 2: she was talking about the course, she said she thought
- 13:32Speaker 2: of a few other people to send it to, but
- 13:34Speaker 2: then conceded the person in question's self-awareness, anxiety, depression, and
- 13:38Speaker 2: addiction is something for them to figure out when they're ready.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I don't think it's fair to talk about someone else's
- 13:44Speaker 1: private mental health battles publicly like this. I think that
- 13:48Speaker 1: was unnecessary. One thing that's really stood out to me
- 13:50Speaker 1: is the fact that Sky is yet to actually directly
- 13:53Speaker 1: address the drink driving charge on her Instagram. So she's
- 13:56Speaker 1: spoken sort of in riddles about this incident that's happened,
- 13:59Speaker 1: but she's never actually said, oh, I've been charged with
- 14:02Speaker 1: drink driving. As I touched on, she has given an
- 14:05Speaker 1: interview to the Daily Mail about So she labelled her
- 14:08Speaker 1: actions as a really poor decision and said that she
- 14:10Speaker 1: was taking responsibility for her actions. She also said she
- 14:14Speaker 1: hoped speaking publicly about the incident would encourage others to
- 14:17Speaker 1: think twice about doing the same thing as her. Yet
- 14:20Speaker 1: she actually hasn't spoken publicly about it on her social media.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I'm guessing that would be because she's trying to avoid
- 14:26Speaker 2: as many sponsors as possible saying no.
- 14:29Speaker 1: The drink driving incident.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I mean, and obviously a great sentiment, but the reality
- 14:33Speaker 1: is this is not Sky's first driving offence. So her
- 14:36Speaker 1: licence was actually suspended for nine months in 2013 after
- 14:40Speaker 1: she was charged with being under the influence of alcohol.
- 14:43Speaker 1: She lost her licence again in 2018, this time for
- 14:46Speaker 1: six months after she was caught speeding in a school zone.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Now that penalty was more serious. because she was on
- 14:53Speaker 1: a good behavior bond for another speeding offense. Now, at
- 14:56Speaker 1: the time, she actually addressed the incident in a YouTube video.
- 15:00Speaker 1: And wow, that was a blast from the past. Very
- 15:03Speaker 1: Tana Mongeau vibes. I think Matt Hay would have liked
- 15:05Speaker 1: this content. Let's take a listen to what she said.
- 15:07Speaker 7: So I lost my license six months ago. I literally
- 15:12Speaker 7: get my license back in two weeks. Hello, fucking Luya.
- 15:16Speaker 7: I'm literally so excited. I'm just going to get in
- 15:20Speaker 7: my car and I'm going.
- 15:21Speaker 5: To drive I'm going to fuck shit up. I'm going
- 15:25Speaker 5: to fuck the roads up.
- 15:26Speaker 7: But I'm going to obey all the rules because I
- 15:29Speaker 7: do not want to lose my license again. Obviously, I'm
- 15:32Speaker 7: literally not going to speed at all when I get
- 15:34Speaker 7: my license back.
- 15:35Speaker 5: I'm not even going to, like, break any of the
- 15:37Speaker 5: road rules. That's really the only road rule that I
- 15:42Speaker 5: continuously broke.
- 15:44Speaker 7: I'm just going to be very cautious when I'm back
- 15:48Speaker 7: on the roads because, obviously, one, I'll be a mum.
- 15:50Speaker 5: I'll have a baby in the car. Two.
- 15:53Speaker 4: I don't want to.
- 15:54Speaker 7: Lose my license again because it is so fucking depressing.
- 15:59Speaker 1: This is just a classic example of why Sky desperately
- 16:02Speaker 1: needs an editor or at least someone reviewing her content.
- 16:05Speaker 2: I mean, I think this content is just indicative though
- 16:07Speaker 2: of what people were sharing in 2018 as we're going
- 16:09Speaker 2: back to all right, hey sentiment, people kept it a
- 16:13Speaker 2: lot more real. I mean, I definitely don't think that
- 16:16Speaker 2: we need people drink driving to keep things interesting on
- 16:19Speaker 2: social media.
- 16:19Speaker 1: No, we don't want that. My comment about the editing
- 16:22Speaker 1: was more about how Sky was like, oh, I'm not
- 16:24Speaker 1: going to break any of the road rules. That was
- 16:27Speaker 1: the only rule that I continuously broke. It's like, oh
- 16:29Speaker 1: my God.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Look, all jokes aside, this is a very serious matter.
- 16:33Speaker 2: If we take a look at the most recent drink
- 16:35Speaker 2: driving incident, it's quite disturbing because Sky actually uploaded a
- 16:40Speaker 2: video of her driving on the night that she got charged.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So in the video, she was driving around miming to
- 16:47Speaker 2: songs in her car. At one point, she took both
- 16:50Speaker 2: hands off the wheel to run her hands through her hair.
- 16:53Speaker 2: At another point, it looked like she swerved and wasn't
- 16:56Speaker 2: in full control of the car. If you look closely
- 16:59Speaker 2: at the vision, you can even see the golden arches
- 17:01Speaker 2: of McDonald's in the background.
- 17:03Speaker 1: So it appears that she was not only driving but
- 17:06Speaker 1: filming herself whilst under the influence. I just don't get
- 17:09Speaker 1: why influencers have to film themselves driving. It is so dangerous.
- 17:13Speaker 1: And then when you add alcohol in the mix, it
- 17:15Speaker 1: is a disaster waiting to happen. Sky's followers have actually
- 17:19Speaker 1: complained of other recent incidences where she's filmed herself in
- 17:22Speaker 1: the car. So two weeks ago, a Reddit user posted
- 17:26Speaker 1: a thread in Aussie Influencer Snark claiming that Sky had
- 17:29Speaker 1: uploaded an Instagram story talking about getting kicked out of
- 17:32Speaker 1: a bar. And in the vision, she appeared to be
- 17:35Speaker 1: slurring her words before she got behind the wheel of
- 17:37Speaker 1: her car. So it potentially may not be an isolated incident.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Well, she is set to appear in Southport's magistrate's court
- 17:46Speaker 2: on the 24th of August. I'm sure there will be
- 17:48Speaker 2: an absolute media storm around that one. It'll be interesting
- 17:51Speaker 2: to see what penalties will apply. Queensland punishes repeat offenders
- 17:56Speaker 2: much more harshly, which is a tough one because She
- 18:01Speaker 2: has two young children now who.
- 18:03Speaker 1: She has to drive to school.
- 18:05Speaker 2: If they're having their kids, it appears to be half-time each.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and I don't want to speculate on it, but
- 18:11Speaker 1: these sorts of charges don't really bode well if you
- 18:15Speaker 1: are in a custody battle. At the moment, it appears
- 18:18Speaker 1: that her and Lockie are quite amicable, but you never
- 18:20Speaker 1: know what happens later down the track. Now, the maximum
- 18:23Speaker 1: licence disqualification rate is two years for drink driving. Skye
- 18:27Speaker 1: could also potentially face additional penalties, including a fine of
- 18:33Speaker 1: up to $ 10, 326, as well as a maximum of six
- 18:36Speaker 1: months imprisonment and a mandatory alcohol ignition interlock once she
- 18:41Speaker 1: gets her license back. So some pretty hefty penalties there.
- 18:45Speaker 5: Mate, it is a beautiful Sunday.
- 18:47Speaker 6: The sun is out.
- 18:48Speaker 5: Can I suggest getting a hobby.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Instead of Over me all the time. You don't follow me,
- 18:55Speaker 1: but you've left multiple comments now.
- 18:56Speaker 5: You're watching like.
- 18:57Speaker 2: A f * * * ing bork.
- 18:58Speaker 5: I would say that you are a Reddit rat without
- 19:00Speaker 5: a doubt.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Controversial influencer Sarah Mills has revealed she performed her own
- 19:06Speaker 1: Wagatha Christie style expose on her Reddit haters. The 38-year-old
- 19:10Speaker 1: released a fake baby name to catch out her trolls.
- 19:14Speaker 1: So before we get into the drama, can you bring
- 19:16Speaker 1: us up to speed with who Sarah is? Well, she
- 19:18Speaker 1: is a content creator who shares about motherhood. She is
- 19:21Speaker 1: a single mom.
- 19:22Speaker 2: She has just had her fourth child and she has
- 19:24Speaker 2: 30,000 followers on Instagram and 387,000 on TikTok. And she
- 19:30Speaker 2: has found herself in the center of quite a number
- 19:33Speaker 2: of controversies. So she is a well-known anti-vaxxer who previously
- 19:37Speaker 2: declared that she would rather inject heroin than get the
- 19:41Speaker 2: COVID jab. She was also accused of comparing her limited
- 19:45Speaker 2: freedoms as an unvaccinated person to the Holocaust. So back
- 19:49Speaker 2: in 2020, 2021, Sarah uploaded a family photo showing her
- 19:53Speaker 2: and her kids all wearing yellow six pointed stars on
- 19:56Speaker 2: their chest. So she was trying to replicate the star
- 19:59Speaker 2: of David badges that Jewish people wear. living in Europe
- 20:03Speaker 2: were forced to wear during World War II. So the
- 20:05Speaker 2: badges were used to shame Jewish people, track them and
- 20:08Speaker 2: separate them from other people. And on the badges, Sarah wrote,
- 20:13Speaker 2: and she included the caption on Instagram, As of today,
- 20:16Speaker 2: I may no longer enter restaurants, cafes, theatres, cinemas, concerts, museums,
- 20:21Speaker 2: sporting events, pools, clothing stores or anything deemed non-essential. I
- 20:36Speaker 2: live in regional New South Wales so we've been living
- 20:38Speaker 2: freely for a while now until today. Yesterday I was
- 20:41Speaker 2: safe to be in public, today I am a threat.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Now at the time she denied comparing lockdowns to the
- 20:47Speaker 2: Holocaust saying she merely wanted to highlight whether that them
- 20:52Speaker 2: us situation began. Now in 2021 she was also charged
- 20:56Speaker 2: after an alleged incident at a subway at Coffs Harbour.
- 21:00Speaker 2: She was charged with assault as well as stalking and
- 21:03Speaker 2: intimidation charges. The charges were later withdrawn in 2022 after
- 21:08Speaker 2: a year of legal battle.
- 21:10Speaker 1: So she has found herself in the headlines quite a lot. Yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 1: and I suppose that gives some context as to why
- 21:15Speaker 1: she has such a active Reddit thread because she is
- 21:19Speaker 1: very divisive. Now, as we touched on, she recently had
- 21:23Speaker 1: her fourth child. She admitted that she was a little
- 21:25Speaker 1: bit nervous about the age gap because her eldest is
- 21:29Speaker 1: 16 and then she's got a 13-year-old and a nine-year-old.
- 21:32Speaker 1: But she said she's always dreamt of having a big family,
- 21:35Speaker 1: so she ended up taking the plunge to have her
- 21:37Speaker 1: fourth son on her own. Now, throughout the pregnancy, she's
- 21:40Speaker 1: been dropping baby name clues here and there. Her other
- 21:44Speaker 1: children have quite unique names, so she's got a Hendrix,
- 21:47Speaker 1: a Monroe, and a Morrison. So Clearly she was going
- 21:50Speaker 1: to name the baby something a little bit out there.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and because she has been dropping all of these clues,
- 21:55Speaker 2: there's a real thirst to know what the name is.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Like, you know when influencers really build it up? Yeah.
- 22:01Speaker 2: And last week she revealed that she had actually performed
- 22:04Speaker 2: her own Wagatha Christie-style expose on her Reddit haters. So
- 22:09Speaker 2: for those who aren't across the story, Wagatha Christie is
- 22:12Speaker 2: the nickname of a very public British celebrity feud between
- 22:15Speaker 2: football wags Colleen Rooney and Rebecca Vardy.
- 22:19Speaker 1: For those who aren't across it, they need to watch
- 22:21Speaker 1: the doco. I think it's on Amazon Prime because it
- 22:24Speaker 1: is so juicy. Colleen Rooney thought that someone was leaking
- 22:28Speaker 1: her private information to the press. It turned out that
- 22:31Speaker 1: it was another wag called Rebecca Vardy and it was sensational.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Yeah, because Colleen started planting fake stories about herself on
- 22:40Speaker 2: a close friend's list to try and see who took
- 22:42Speaker 2: the bait and reported it to the press. Now, Sarah
- 22:46Speaker 2: has taken inspiration from this story and she released a
- 22:49Speaker 2: fake baby name on her Instagram story. So she shared
- 22:53Speaker 2: a photo of her new baby in hospital and she
- 22:57Speaker 2: doctored the little name card above. So it read Western Trump.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Bit of rage baiting going on, naming your kid after
- 23:05Speaker 1: Donald Trump. Definitely.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Now, she left the post up for only a few
- 23:08Speaker 2: minutes before deleting it, but it gave her enough time
- 23:11Speaker 2: to take a screenshot of the names that saw it.
- 23:14Speaker 2: And as expected, it wasn't long before the baby name
- 23:17Speaker 2: appeared on her Reddit thread. Now, Sarah said she kept
- 23:20Speaker 2: an eye on who commented the name in the thread
- 23:24Speaker 2: and also took note on who would comment the name
- 23:26Speaker 2: on her Instagram posts. And this was her way of
- 23:29Speaker 2: whittling down who was involved in the Reddit thread. A
- 23:32Speaker 2: couple of days later, she revealed the baby's real name,
- 23:36Speaker 2: announcing it first on her subs channels. So the real
- 23:39Speaker 2: name is Denver Lior Mills.
- 23:41Speaker 1: I mean, a lot nicer. I'm not a massive fan
- 23:44Speaker 1: of unusual baby names, but I have a soft spot
- 23:47Speaker 1: for Denver. It was my favorite character from Money Heist.
- 23:49Speaker 1: So much better than Western Trump.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I remember throwing this around as a possible dog name.
- 23:52Speaker 2: So I was quite keen on this name too. Now
- 23:54Speaker 2: the real name then popped up on Reddit, which revealed
- 23:57Speaker 2: to Sarah that one of her Reddit haters is.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Actually a subscriber. Of course they are, because it's a
- 24:03Speaker 1: fact that often your biggest haters are the ones that
- 24:06Speaker 1: actually most tuned into what you're doing.
- 24:08Speaker 2: When you look at the psychology behind it, it's interesting
- 24:11Speaker 2: to think that someone who hates you that much is
- 24:13Speaker 2: willing to pay to see your content.
- 24:15Speaker 1: It's pretty disturbing, really. Now, strangely, Sarah.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Dealt with this leak by blocking all of the 89
- 24:22Speaker 2: subscribers who saw the post.
- 24:24Speaker 1: That's losing quite a bit of revenue for her. How
- 24:26Speaker 1: many subscribers does she even have on Instagram?
- 24:28Speaker 2: Well, I think it was actually on her TikTok subscription.
- 24:31Speaker 2: When I clicked on it, it said she had like
- 24:32Speaker 2: 39 subscribers. So Maybe that's because she's blocked the other 89.
- 24:36Speaker 1: A bit of a strange move. I know we said
- 24:38Speaker 1: that your trolls are often the people who are most
- 24:41Speaker 1: engaged with their content. And, you know, presumably some of
- 24:44Speaker 1: those 89 people are feeding her content back to Reddit.
- 24:47Speaker 1: But what about the ones that genuinely like her and
- 24:49Speaker 1: have been paying money to subscribe to her?
- 24:52Speaker 2: Well, the reality is she's probably now got 88 new
- 24:55Speaker 2: people who are.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Going to go and join the Reddit thread. Exactly right.
- 24:58Speaker 1: That's the irony of the whole thing.
- 25:00Speaker 2: It's quite interesting because as soon as she announced the
- 25:02Speaker 2: real baby name, people started asking her if she changed
- 25:05Speaker 2: the name due to the original leg. There was a
- 25:08Speaker 2: lot of confusion over this name. So she wrote on
- 25:11Speaker 2: her stories, And no, I did not change his name
- 25:13Speaker 2: because people found out. I just wanted to have a
- 25:16Speaker 2: laugh at how fucking gullible.
- 25:17Speaker 1: These Reddit rats are.
- 25:19Speaker 2: She added also, apart from proving how moronic Reddit users
- 25:22Speaker 2: are with the fake name, I also took note of
- 25:24Speaker 2: which of you still keep running to comment his name
- 25:27Speaker 2: everywhere the second you saw it and then following when
- 25:30Speaker 2: I said don't leak it.
- 25:31Speaker 1: It's been a fun experiment all around.
- 25:33Speaker 2: But thanks to the haters for the money, because all
- 25:35Speaker 2: the money I got will be going to pay for
- 25:37Speaker 2: this mama to get a massage, get her hair done,
- 25:39Speaker 2: a facial... And all the things to give me a
- 25:42Speaker 2: pampered day. Appreciate it with a laughing face.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Look, I know at the start of this episode, we
- 25:46Speaker 1: were saying we want influencers to be more interesting. And
- 25:48Speaker 1: this definitely is interesting. But it does rub me up
- 25:51Speaker 1: the wrong way when influencers then take it really personally.
- 25:54Speaker 1: It's like you baited people. You wanted this attention around
- 25:58Speaker 1: the baby name. You've been dropping baby name clues. So
- 26:01Speaker 1: why are you so offended when people are actually talking
- 26:05Speaker 1: about your baby name?
- 26:06Speaker 2: She definitely hasn't been as clever as Colleen Rooney either
- 26:09Speaker 2: because Colleen was able to whittle it down to one
- 26:11Speaker 2: person who was leaking the information about her, whereas her
- 26:15Speaker 2: approach seems to be like, I'm just going to block
- 26:18Speaker 2: a whole load of you because you might be the
- 26:20Speaker 2: Reddit user.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like, okay, well, one of the 89 of
- 26:23Speaker 1: you did it, so I'm just going to punish all
- 26:25Speaker 1: of you. Sarah has a really interesting relationship with her, quote,
- 26:30Speaker 1: haters and also with Reddit because she and fellow influencer
- 26:34Speaker 1: Tegan Deville, as well as Carly Moussa, claimed that they
- 26:37Speaker 1: had identified the person behind Australian TikTok's snark, as well
- 26:41Speaker 1: as its moderators. That was earlier this year. Now, the
- 26:44Speaker 1: women claim that they spent three years investigating the page
- 26:48Speaker 1: and the subreddit got shut down. Since then, similar pages
- 26:52Speaker 1: have popped right back up.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Well, on that note, I think that is all we
- 26:55Speaker 2: have time for today. Thank you so much for joining us,
- 26:58Speaker 2: for this episode. If you have enjoyed it, could you
- 27:00Speaker 2: please make sure you are subscribed on Apple Podcast and
- 27:03Speaker 2: also Spotify and leave us a five-star review.
- 27:07Speaker 1: It really means a lot to us. This episode was recorded.
- 27:10Speaker 2: On the traditional land of the Kaurna people of the
- 27:12Speaker 2: Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to elders past and present.
