- 1:48Dayna Roselli: Uh, it's been two years, like Sean said.
- 1:51Dayna Roselli: And, you know, Sean and I left the TV broadcasting business to start our own media company together.

- 2:00Dayna Roselli: We had planned it.
- 2:02Dayna Roselli: And, you know, we basically have kicked it off and then just done it weekly for two years.
- 2:08Dayna Roselli: We have missed maybe one, two, and then we just took two weeks off now.
- 2:12Dayna Roselli: Maybe maybe four weeks.
- 2:14Sean McAllister: Four weeks over two years.
- 2:15Sean McAllister: It's not bad.
- 2:16Sean McAllister: I know.
- 2:16Sean McAllister: Any employer would love to have employees who will only take two-week vacations each year, right?
- 2:23Sean McAllister: Not that we're looking for employers since we work for ourselves.
- 2:26Sean McAllister: But you know.
- 2:27Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 2:28Dayna Roselli: Well, it's been, you know, a rough two years, but also, you know, there are some really great things that happened.

- 2:39Dayna Roselli: We're gonna talk about all that stuff.

- 5:35Dayna Roselli: And say, hey, did you know?
- 5:37Dayna Roselli: That is like, um, yeah.
- 5:40Dayna Roselli: Or sometimes we don't know.
- 5:41Dayna Roselli: And we're like, no, we need to go edit that.
- 5:43Dayna Roselli: Thanks.
- 5:45Sean McAllister: And and shout out to mom.
- 5:47Sean McAllister: She has been spreading the word.
- 5:49Sean McAllister: She has uh bought Vegas Revealed merchandise from the Vegas Revealed merchandise store.
- 5:55Sean McAllister: By the way, there's a link down in our show notes for that.
- 5:58Sean McAllister: And she's sent that to her friends.
- 6:00Sean McAllister: She spreads the word on Facebook.
- 6:03Sean McAllister: So, Priscilla, thank you for your loyal support.
- 6:06Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 6:07Sean McAllister: And Diane.
- 6:08Dayna Roselli: Yeah, Diane's done the same.
- 6:10Dayna Roselli: My mom and uh dad.
- 6:11Dayna Roselli: I went home for Christmas, and dad was in one of the sweatshirts without a hood.
- 6:15Dayna Roselli: He was.
- 6:15Dayna Roselli: I liked it.
- 6:16Dayna Roselli: I was like, oh, I hadn't even seen one of these yet.
- 6:18Dayna Roselli: There he was in his Vegas revealed sweatshirt.
- 6:20Dayna Roselli: It was, you know, it was nice.
- 6:21Dayna Roselli: So yeah, our parents are very supportive through the years.
- 6:24Dayna Roselli: We're thankful for them.
- 6:25Dayna Roselli: They always listen and always critique.
- 6:29Dayna Roselli: And they like our jokes sometimes.

- 7:10Dayna Roselli: We appreciate those so much.
- 7:12Dayna Roselli: Everything helps the podcast grow, and we have really grown over the last six months to a year.
- 7:19Dayna Roselli: Even we were looking at the numbers the other day and saying, wow, we're impressed and we're proud.
- 7:24Sean McAllister: Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:25Sean McAllister: And uh keep in mind that we love to get feedback from you all as well.
- 7:32Sean McAllister: Let us know what you want to hear about Las Vegas.
- 7:36Sean McAllister: We live here, we're ingrained in Las Vegas society.
- 7:41Sean McAllister: So if there are topics that uh you haven't heard us discuss here on Vegas Revealed, let us know and we'd be happy to explore anything that you bring up.
- 7:52Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 7:53Dayna Roselli: You can always email us ideas at vegas-revealed.com.
- 7:57Dayna Roselli: Well, one of the biggest questions that we have had over the last week, week and a half is how is this new COVID surge affecting Las Vegas?
- 8:06Sean McAllister: Another surge.
- 8:07Dayna Roselli: Another surge.
- 8:08Dayna Roselli: Even, you know, when we talk about episode 100, uh, we were gonna do something for like episode 50 and then or like episode 10, you know, and then uh things keep happening where we go, oh, I don't know if like a big gathering is is good right now.
- 8:20Dayna Roselli: But anyway, um, again we have a surge and people are in many ways scaling back on things, but I don't know, in Las Vegas we went ahead with New Year's Eve and did not hold back.
- 8:34Sean McAllister: Well, and as we uh are recording right now, the consumer electronics show, CES, is underway, which is one of the largest trade shows in Las Vegas all year.
- 8:46Sean McAllister: Uh there have been major companies that have pulled out of uh exhibiting here in person and only taking part virtually.
- 8:54Sean McAllister: Um, and as a result of everything that's going on with COVID, CES made a decision to shorten the length of the conference by one day.
- 9:05Sean McAllister: Lots of people still are here in town for CES and for other conventions that are, you know, planned in the near future.
- 9:14Sean McAllister: But, you know, it's there are still big impacts happening.
- 9:18Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and so let let's talk about that.
- 9:20Dayna Roselli: So what has changed?
- 9:21Dayna Roselli: What's new?
- 9:22Dayna Roselli: Well, when it comes to masks indoors, that has not changed.
- 9:25Dayna Roselli: They're on.
- 9:25Dayna Roselli: We have no end in sight or any talk about when that could possibly end.
- 9:29Dayna Roselli: We've had masks on indoors for a while now.
- 9:33Dayna Roselli: So I know like New York added masks indoors, and they were all like, uh, you know, oh no, we have to go back to masks.
- 9:38Dayna Roselli: Or like, we've already had our masks on.
- 9:40Sean McAllister: So we had like a month over the summer when masks were allowed to come off, and then there was a spike and masks went back on, and here in Vegas, indoors, masks have been back on ever since.
- 9:53Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 9:53Dayna Roselli: Now, people will ask as well, do people really wear them indoors?
- 9:58Dayna Roselli: And you have to be honest, you know, and it's like uh certain things we've gone to, the masks have been off.
- 10:03Dayna Roselli: You know, a lot of times it's people have a drink in their hand and people find ways around it because you know, if you're eating or drinking.
- 10:09Dayna Roselli: So yes and no, I think they have slowly come off a little bit more.
- 10:16Dayna Roselli: You can't have the mask police constantly telling you to pull it up.
- 10:20Dayna Roselli: However, more recently, I think I've noticed the masks back on inside more.
- 10:28Dayna Roselli: People following the rules.
- 10:30Sean McAllister: Yes, if you're going through a casino or something like that, there's a considerable number of masks.
- 10:39Sean McAllister: Obviously, there's you know, some people who are gonna pull them down, whatever, you know, nurse their their beer bottle and pretend that they're eating or drinking or smoking the whole time.
- 10:52Sean McAllister: Um by and large, I think indoors people have been following the mask requirement.
- 10:59Sean McAllister: Where that's a little different is for big sporting events and concerts.
- 11:05Sean McAllister: Once people are in their seats, I have noticed personally that a lot of the masks come down.
- 11:12Sean McAllister: And you know, when you're packed into an arena or a theater, yeah, there is a big open you're in a big open space.
- 11:21Sean McAllister: However, you're also packed in pretty closely with people around you too.
- 11:26Sean McAllister: And you're yelling and cheering and singing, and there's you know Spittle that's flittering.
- 11:32Dayna Roselli: This new variant is a lot more contagious.
- 11:37Sean McAllister: Yeah, it's spreading like wildfire.
- 11:39Sean McAllister: I I just saw a report that 95% of cases now are this Omicron variant.
- 11:47Sean McAllister: So it does spread very easily.
- 11:50Sean McAllister: It's out there, it's you know, the cause of this big surge right now.
- 11:54Sean McAllister: We do our testing lines here in Las Vegas are hours long, and this is for drive-through testing.
- 12:01Sean McAllister: People go in and and get in line, and it takes hours for them to get in line, and it's hard to find home test kits at at stores.
- 12:13Sean McAllister: So you know, it is it's a real thing.
- 12:15Dayna Roselli: It really is.
- 12:16Dayna Roselli: And I just was watching on the news yesterday, and there's a whole plan here to try and get more of these testing sites available.
- 12:23Dayna Roselli: Because yeah, the traffic I was driving through an intersection the other day was all backed up.
- 12:27Dayna Roselli: When I got home, I realized it was because of was a line of a cars heading to a site near UNLV for testing, so it was crazy.
- 12:35Dayna Roselli: But when you ask, is Las Vegas a ghost town because of what's going on?
- 12:38Dayna Roselli: No, no, it is busy.
- 12:40Dayna Roselli: We had our New Year's Eve fireworks, we had all of our lounges and and nightclubs and shows open, so we have not, you know, canceled anything.
- 12:50Dayna Roselli: And I know a lot of people have canceled things because there's been a shortage of staff, like people are calling in sick.
- 12:56Dayna Roselli: Well, we haven't experienced that just yet.
- 12:58Dayna Roselli: However, after New Year's, I mean, this is something that we could definitely see a spike in.
- 13:03Sean McAllister: That's true, that's true.
- 13:05Sean McAllister: But as you mentioned, visitor numbers have not really dipped because of you know the the spike in cases and whatever, or because of of mask requirements.
- 13:16Sean McAllister: It has not stopped people from coming here to Las Vegas.
- 13:20Sean McAllister: If you plan a trip here, you are not going to be alone.
- 13:24Sean McAllister: You're gonna be with many other people who have the exact same plan.
- 13:28Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 13:29Dayna Roselli: So we'll we'll have to see what happens, but for now, restaurants, shows, everything's open, right?
- 13:34Dayna Roselli: As long as as long as we have the staff and and everyone's working, that's as of now.
- 13:38Sean McAllister: Yeah, but as we know, things can change at the the drop of a hat.
- 13:42Sean McAllister: And as you also know, Vegas Revealed will keep you in the know about what's going on here in Vegas.
- 13:49Sean McAllister: And something else that's new here in Las Vegas, Dana, and if visitors are booking trips to come here to Las Vegas, you may notice that the international airport here in Vegas now has a new name.
- 14:03Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 14:04Dayna Roselli: It's now the Harry Reid International Airport.
- 14:06Dayna Roselli: And, you know, you're used to seeing McCarron when you pop in some searches.
- 14:11Dayna Roselli: Our call letters or airport letters or airport code, whatever you call it, is still LAS, okay?
- 14:17Dayna Roselli: But you might have seen McCarron a lot, and now you're gonna see the Harry Reid International Airport pop up.
- 14:22Sean McAllister: Yeah, the signage around the airport is gonna be changing uh very soon.
- 14:27Sean McAllister: Um, and it's named after our longtime uh Nevada senator.
- 14:33Sean McAllister: He was Senate Majority Leader for years, Harry Reid, and he recently passed away, but he was able to live long enough to see the airport named after him.
- 14:44Dayna Roselli: I can only imagine it was a huge moment for him.
- 14:47Dayna Roselli: He passed away shortly after the airport was officially named after him.
- 14:52Dayna Roselli: He had been struggling with pancreatic cancer for a while.
- 14:55Dayna Roselli: Um, and you know, let's just put politics aside and take a quick moment to say, you know, shout out to everything that Harry Reid did for Nevada.
- 15:03Dayna Roselli: Um, because he really brought Nevada to the forefront.
- 15:07Dayna Roselli: I mean, we were known as just Las Vegas, you know, this big empty state with just Las Vegas and it's in the middle of nowhere, it's in the desert, blah, blah, blah.
- 15:14Dayna Roselli: But we have a lot of things going on here that are important to us and a huge important industry and other industries besides just tourism that affect our state.
- 15:22Dayna Roselli: And I feel like he really, you know, brought that I I guess I should say brought attention to that.
- 15:28Sean McAllister: Yes, he did.
- 15:30Sean McAllister: He he's really was instrumental in turning the Las Vegas Strip into what it is today.
- 15:35Sean McAllister: He did a lot for for public lands down here in southern Nevada and really across the state, and uh really helped push forward a lot of uh plans that have helped the entire country as well.
- 15:48Dayna Roselli: Our condolences to Harry Reed's family.
- 15:50Dayna Roselli: Sean and I have worked with his son Rory Reid over the last two years a lot with projects for the Rogers Foundation.
- 15:56Dayna Roselli: Um they have a huge just impact in our area, you know, the entire family has.
- 16:00Sean McAllister: So Yeah, and a memorial is planned for Harry Reid at the Smith Center for Performing Arts.
- 16:07Sean McAllister: Uh a former president Barack Obama is set to give the eulogy.
- 16:11Sean McAllister: They were very close friends, and um, you know, Barack Obama has credited Harry Reid with uh him winning the presidency.
- 16:20Sean McAllister: So many uh friends, colleagues, family members uh will be there uh to pay their respects uh for Harry Reid at that memorial.
- 16:31Dayna Roselli: And then he will lie in state at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.
- 16:36Sean McAllister: So again, among the honors for Harry Reid, you will now notice his name on uh Las Vegas' International Airport, now known as Harry Reid International Airport.
- 16:47Dayna Roselli: Well, the new year obviously brings with it a lot of headlines and Las Vegas news, and we're gonna get to all of that in just a minute, but we quickly want to tell you more about our sponsor, Targeted Tax Relief.
- 16:57Sean McAllister: Yeah, I mean 2020 caused a lot of money problems for a lot of people.
- 17:03Sean McAllister: And 2021, let's face it, it wasn't much better.
- 17:06Sean McAllister: There were a lot of businesses that had to close down after the shutdown, and now they're facing tax issues, and all of that is just hanging over people's heads.
- 17:16Sean McAllister: And those people in those businesses are going to need help, and that's just one of the problems that many people across the country are facing right now, Dana.

- 18:18Dayna Roselli: Speaking of money problems, let's get right into our topics and talk about Martha Stewart.
- 18:24Sean McAllister: Oh, you're going there, huh?
- 18:26Sean McAllister: I'm going there.
- 18:27Dayna Roselli: It was just a good transition.
- 18:28Sean McAllister: I see how we're doing this.
- 18:29Dayna Roselli: Listen, Martha went away.
- 18:31Dayna Roselli: She did did her time.
- 18:33Dayna Roselli: She's out, she's cooking with Snoop Dogg and all sorts of stuff.
- 18:36Dayna Roselli: Um, people love Martha Stewart.
- 18:38Dayna Roselli: And you know what?
- 18:40Dayna Roselli: She's opening her first ever restaurant in Las Vegas.
- 18:43Dayna Roselli: We're pretty excited about this because there's no doubt Martha Stewart's recipes and cooking are top-notch.
- 18:49Dayna Roselli: So she's coming to the strip.
- 18:50Dayna Roselli: We talked about it before, but now we have some more details.
- 18:54Sean McAllister: We do.
- 18:54Sean McAllister: The restaurant is going to be called The Bedford by Martha Stewart.
- 18:59Sean McAllister: Um, and it's supposed to be a country farmhouse-inspired restaurant.
- 19:05Sean McAllister: She lives in Bedford, New York, by the way.
- 19:07Sean McAllister: That's kind of where the name comes from, and also lives on a you know big farm.
- 19:11Sean McAllister: Right.
- 19:12Sean McAllister: So, you know, it's kind of gonna be Martha's home cooking.
- 19:16Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 19:17Sean McAllister: At the Bedford, and this is at Paris, Las Vegas.
- 19:20Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's something different.
- 19:21Dayna Roselli: It's gonna open in spring of 2022, so this spring.
- 19:24Dayna Roselli: So look forward to that.
- 19:25Dayna Roselli: Lots of new restaurants opening here in Las Vegas, and that is one of them.
- 19:30Dayna Roselli: Well, soon Martha's gonna be waking up in Vegas.
- 19:33Sean McAllister: Just like Katy Perry.
- 19:35Dayna Roselli: These transitions for for episode 100 man top notch.
- 19:39Sean McAllister: Fire.
- 19:39Dayna Roselli: Fire.
- 19:40Dayna Roselli: Well, Katy Perry opened her new show at Resorts World, and boy, from the clips we've seen, we have not gone yet.
- 19:46Dayna Roselli: We're we're gonna go, we will be there eventually, but from the clips that we have seen circulating, it was big, right?
- 19:53Dayna Roselli: The props, what do you call it?
- 19:54Sean McAllister: It's like the scenery, the props, the screen, yeah.
- 19:58Sean McAllister: I mean, there's a giant singing uh turd, a poop, yeah that that comes out of a toilet and sings, and I think she eventually flushes that away when it's time is done.
- 20:12Sean McAllister: Um there are I mean, if you've seen Katy Perry at the Super Bowl, you know, with the dancing sharks and riding in on the big horse and all that, it's that scale except times 25.
- 20:29Sean McAllister: It is a visual spectacle.
- 20:33Sean McAllister: It's Katy Perry's songs, which you know are just so fun to sing along with.
- 20:40Sean McAllister: It's a party.
- 20:41Sean McAllister: You go and play, which is the name of the show.
- 20:44Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 20:44Dayna Roselli: The name of the show is play.
- 20:45Dayna Roselli: And I was seeing that like some of the quotes they put out, like Vogue magazine said Katy Perry is still the queen of camp.
- 20:50Dayna Roselli: So, you know, it's a very campy show, apparently.
- 20:53Dayna Roselli: Um, and people are raving about the you know the visuals too.
- 20:57Dayna Roselli: It's just fun, it looks fun.
- 20:59Dayna Roselli: I know people seem to have a great time.
- 21:01Dayna Roselli: I saw someone say it was one of the best shows they'd ever seen in Vegas.
- 21:04Sean McAllister: Um, so we'll be the judge of that when we go, but and I saw another headline that says that uh Katy Perry lactates beer at one point in the show.
- 21:14unknown: What?
- 21:15Sean McAllister: You don't get that with with Celine.
- 21:17Dayna Roselli: No, and I know you were watching a live feed on one of the nights, I think it was the night before New Year's Eve, her first show.
- 21:23Dayna Roselli: And you were saying you heard her talking about how she has a lot of history in Las Vegas.
- 21:27Sean McAllister: Yeah, her uh so Resorts World is built on the site where the Stardust used to be.
- 21:35Sean McAllister: And Katy Perry was telling a story up on stage about how uh her aunt was a top showgirl at the Stardust, and her grandma also worked there as a seamstress for the showgirls.
- 21:49Sean McAllister: So she has family history, and she said to be there on that site where her family had had worked for years is just kind of like a full circle moment.
- 21:59Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that's.
- 22:00Dayna Roselli: That's a big deal, I'm sure, to to her and her family.
- 22:02Dayna Roselli: Um, something else that she had commented on was that, you know, she couldn't have done this show like in an arena, like to move all the props and sets.
- 22:11Dayna Roselli: So it was just been a little bit more than a lot of people.
- 22:12Dayna Roselli: Like a touring show.
- 22:13Sean McAllister: It's not even possible.
- 22:14Dayna Roselli: No.
- 22:14Dayna Roselli: So she was so thankful, and she said, like, this show was basically built for this theater.
- 22:19Dayna Roselli: So that's really cool.
- 22:20Dayna Roselli: She's got a lot of dates still left in January, and then she will be back in March if you'd like to see Katy Perry play.
- 22:27Sean McAllister: Uh, someone we will not see coming back, Dana, is David Lee Roth.
- 22:32Sean McAllister: We'd mentioned uh uh few episodes ago that David Lee Roth was doing this big kind of coming out of retirement series of shows here in Las Vegas.
- 22:43Sean McAllister: Uh he had to cancel the New Year's Eve show for COVID purposes.
- 22:48Sean McAllister: Uh and then uh apparently the rest of them have just kind of been yanked as well.
- 22:54Dayna Roselli: Okay.
- 22:54Dayna Roselli: Well, yeah, we had him, you know, talking on the, I think it was the last episode that we did of the year that he was excited to add on.
- 23:00Dayna Roselli: He said, I guess people really want to come see me because he had sold out.
- 23:03Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 23:04Dayna Roselli: Like you said, the first the first batch.
- 23:06Dayna Roselli: So we aren't sure what happened there, but um we wish David Lee Roth well, and maybe we'll see him back here in Vegas if he decides to bring those shows back.
- 23:14Dayna Roselli: Hey, some big breaking news over at the Tropicana.
- 23:18Dayna Roselli: We saw our friend Frank Marino, and I say our friend, because I actually am friends with Frank, but he kept this from me.
- 23:25Dayna Roselli: Um, he wouldn't tell me what was going on.
- 23:28Dayna Roselli: I knew something was brewing.
- 23:29Sean McAllister: I know next time you talk with him or go out and play tennis, yeah.
- 23:32Sean McAllister: You're gonna be like, Frank, what's up with this?
- 23:34Dayna Roselli: Well, we went to his last show in Legends.
- 23:37Dayna Roselli: He was the host of Legends for a long time over at the Tropicana, but Legends was kind of shutting down as far as like just moving.
- 23:43Dayna Roselli: We didn't know what with the future of Legends, but we figured it was gonna move properties because they were moving in MJ Live from from the Strat, which is a Michael Jackson tribute concert.
- 23:53Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 23:53Dayna Roselli: They're moving that before the Prince show, which is called Purple Rain, and so they kind of go together, but apparently Frank is bringing back Divas, which was a long time show up and down the strip in different locations for many, many years, but he's bringing it to the Tropicana, but it's not the same exact thing, it's legend-esque.
- 24:18Sean McAllister: It is so the original Divas production uh was a drag performance, it was guys impersonating you know female superstars.
- 24:28Sean McAllister: Well, in this iteration of Divas, Frank is going to be hosting the show as he does so well and tying the whole thing together, introducing different acts, but the rest of the cast is all female and they are all tribute artists.
- 24:44Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 24:44Dayna Roselli: Apparently, it's gonna have a live band, it's gonna have dancers, it's singers, uh, some of the artists that will be included in the show, Adele, Cher, Celine, Gaga, and then of course Frank Marino as Joan Rivers himself.
- 24:58Dayna Roselli: I knew he couldn't give it up.
- 24:59Dayna Roselli: He had talked sometime about, you know, when when do I, you know, move on, but he loves it so much, and so this'll give him a chance to still do his jokes, you know, probably open the show, make a couple appearances throughout the show.
- 25:12Dayna Roselli: I think it's gonna be great.
- 25:13Sean McAllister: And he's great at what he does.
- 25:15Sean McAllister: And what are all of those wigs and gowns and jewels and shoes going to do if Frank isn't wearing them up on stage?
- 25:24Dayna Roselli: It's so true.
- 25:25Dayna Roselli: He's gotta make use of them.
- 25:27Dayna Roselli: So we look forward to that.
- 25:28Dayna Roselli: That is coming to the drop starting February 2nd, so a little over a month from now.
- 25:33Sean McAllister: Congratulations, Frank, and the entire cast.
- 25:36Sean McAllister: Um Cheap Trick is a band that people absolutely love.
- 25:42Sean McAllister: So much fun to go see their live shows.
- 25:44Sean McAllister: Uh, they are going to be sitting down at the Strat for a little bit.
- 25:48Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I think they've got like four shows planned now, two kind of weekends, and we'll see if more pop up.
- 25:54Dayna Roselli: But people love Cheap Trick, and I know a lot of people are excited about this one.
- 25:58Dayna Roselli: So congratulations.
- 25:59Dayna Roselli: They'll be going over to the Strat.
- 26:01Dayna Roselli: I think the shows are in February and March.
- 26:04Sean McAllister: All right, so there are some headlines, some moving and shaking from the strip.
- 26:08Sean McAllister: And uh, Dana, before we move on, you saw some moving and shaking down on the strip on New Year's Eve, and I was absolutely shocked by the plans that you had on New Year's Eve.
- 26:23Dayna Roselli: You texted me and said, Doing anything fun for you know New Year's Eve?
- 26:26Dayna Roselli: Because I had just kind of gotten back into town after Christmas break.
- 26:30Dayna Roselli: I went home to New York to see the fam, which, you know, was great.
- 26:32Dayna Roselli: Um, and I said, Well, if I tell you, you're gonna kill me.
- 26:35Dayna Roselli: And you wrote back right away you knew what it was.
- 26:38Dayna Roselli: You said, You're not going clubbing, are you?
- 26:41Sean McAllister: And the response was, uh-huh.
- 26:44Dayna Roselli: I think there was an OMG in there.
- 26:45Dayna Roselli: There was.
- 26:46Dayna Roselli: OMG, yeah.
- 26:47Sean McAllister: OMG.
- 26:48Dayna Roselli: I'm not gonna tell the story leading up to it of how it ended up because it's a whole thing.
- 26:52Dayna Roselli: I kind of got uh ultimately it doesn't matter.
- 26:55Dayna Roselli: It doesn't matter.
- 26:55Dayna Roselli: I got sucked into going to a club.
- 26:57Dayna Roselli: Um we the the the people that I was invited by, some friends of mine had a table at Marquee at the Cosmopolitan.
- 27:05Dayna Roselli: Uh the DJ was Fisher.
- 27:08Dayna Roselli: We had, I don't know, they were bringing out, you know, Don Julio and Cristal.
- 27:13Dayna Roselli: But they we ordered food, which was I didn't realize Marquis had food.
- 27:16Dayna Roselli: I had some great quesadillas and pizza and sushi and yeah, because they kept saying, well, we've got like a um, you know, what do you call a minimum?
- 27:23Dayna Roselli: Yeah, like a minimum.
- 27:24Dayna Roselli: So just order whatever you want.
- 27:26Dayna Roselli: Well, I did, and uh it was a great night.
- 27:28Dayna Roselli: Um our table was great because it was set back off the dance floor and roped off.
- 27:32Dayna Roselli: So I didn't feel like because you know, with everything going on with COVID and stuff, no matter if you're masked, you're unmasked, people are don't have their masks on.
- 27:38Dayna Roselli: We just talked about that.
- 27:39Dayna Roselli: Obviously, they got a drink in their hands, so I was a little nervous, but I thought, okay, I like that I'm set back a little and we were kind of near the back door, which was great because when it struck midnight, we were able to go out and see the fireworks.
- 27:50Dayna Roselli: Oh, nice.
- 27:51Dayna Roselli: So I was really excited to be a part of that, and it ended up being fun, but no, clubbing is not my thing.
- 27:56Dayna Roselli: Do I want to run back to Marquee next week?
- 28:00Dayna Roselli: No.
- 28:01Sean McAllister: But it was fun.
- 28:02Dayna Roselli: But it was fun and it was memorable.
- 28:03Sean McAllister: And you were dressed to the nines in your new silver dress.
- 28:07Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 28:07Dayna Roselli: My new dress that my parents got me for Christmas that I had sequence from the knees up, Sean.
- 28:14Dayna Roselli: And you were a little more low-key.
- 28:16Dayna Roselli: You went to a great dinner in the Henderson area, right?
- 28:18Sean McAllister: Uh yeah, we went to a place called uh Spaghetto, which is a great Italian place.
- 28:23Sean McAllister: They had uh live music there.
- 28:25Sean McAllister: They had a Frank Sinatra tribute artist who was singing.
- 28:29Sean McAllister: It was it was a really great dinner, and then um we stopped at a casino, the M Resort we stopped at um to gamble a little bit, and then we were home by 11 to watch the the countdown.
- 28:42Sean McAllister: So that was my wild night.
- 28:44Sean McAllister: You were still ordering sushi and quesadillas at 11.
- 28:47Dayna Roselli: Listen, I went to bed at 5 a.m.
- 28:48Dayna Roselli: Oh my god.
- 28:49Dayna Roselli: I'm not we had a limo.
- 28:51Sean McAllister: I didn't know.
- 28:52Dayna Roselli: Oh yeah, we had a limo.
- 28:53Dayna Roselli: So we're like, so then crap.
- 28:54Dayna Roselli: And some of the people we were with were like, oh, um, you know, I could go for a diet coke right now, you know.
- 28:59Dayna Roselli: So we were like, you know, we had time to kill because we had the limo for a certain amount of time.
- 29:02Dayna Roselli: So we're like, hey, let's go to Taco Bell.
- 29:05Dayna Roselli: So we went to Taco Bell in the limo.
- 29:09Dayna Roselli: Anyway, I figured might as well make the best of it.
- 29:14Dayna Roselli: And then and then yeah, finally we got home.
- 29:16Dayna Roselli: So anyway, I think I went to bed at five, which is why I'm still I'm mad because I was really doing well before the holiday of like my eyes were opening right up at like 7.15.
- 29:26Dayna Roselli: Now I am all off.
- 29:27Dayna Roselli: First of all, I went to the East Coast, then I came back, then I had a couple nights where I went to bed at 4 and 5 a.m.
- 29:32Dayna Roselli: And then here I am today, and so now I'm like tired.
- 29:36Dayna Roselli: Like my alarm goes off at like eight because I have to set it because I'm all off, and I'm slowly getting earlier and earlier.
- 29:42Sean McAllister: But I know, I'm the same way sleeping in.
- 29:45Sean McAllister: I had to get up for a doctor's appointment and be there at 7:30 this morning.
- 29:48Dayna Roselli: Wow.
- 29:49Sean McAllister: That was rough.
- 29:50Dayna Roselli: That is.
- 29:50Dayna Roselli: When you told me you had that, I was like, have fun.
- 29:52Sean McAllister: I know, I know.
- 29:53Sean McAllister: Gotta reset the body clock after the holidays.
- 29:56Dayna Roselli: It's true.
- 29:57Sean McAllister: Okay, let's get to our tips.
- 30:02Sean McAllister: And we're going to start with uh a Twitter question that we received from a listener.
- 30:07Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 30:08Dayna Roselli: And you know, we've never really gotten this specific question before, so I thought let's talk about this.
- 30:12Dayna Roselli: Um, because this is something that a lot of people I see on Twitter talking about is like, you know, what's it like to live in Vegas and things like that.
- 30:20Dayna Roselli: So um we had a question that said, what are some of the unique things only in Las Vegas to consider if moving here?
- 30:28Dayna Roselli: Um so I was quickly thought, and it was like rambling out a bunch of things, and then you had some ideas.
- 30:33Dayna Roselli: So we thought, well, let why don't we put this into our tips?
- 30:35Sean McAllister: And and really quick, this is relevant because we have had an influx of people uh from California, Arizona, Utah moving to Las Vegas.
- 30:45Sean McAllister: So this is there are a lot of new uh residents here right now who may not know some of these things.
- 30:52Dayna Roselli: Very true.
- 30:53Dayna Roselli: And I start off with it's hot in the summer, which everyone kind of knows, but if you've never been to Las Vegas and you just think, eh, I can deal with a little heat in the summer, if you have issues with heat, it is really hot here in the summer.
- 31:10Dayna Roselli: Yes, it's a dry heat, and so you know, if it's in the 90s, you may not notice the difference.
- 31:18Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 31:18Sean McAllister: Up to 105, I feel.
- 31:20Dayna Roselli: It's okay.
- 31:21Dayna Roselli: But we have many days that are in the 115s, 12.
- 31:26Dayna Roselli: Well I think sometimes we have like a day or two that's like 120.
- 31:30Sean McAllister: Yeah, but we had a stretch where it was like 117 this past summer.
- 31:34Dayna Roselli: True, true.
- 31:34Dayna Roselli: So anyway, if it's something that you're not into, prepared for, it's not good for your health, any of that kind of thing, you might want to just keep that in mind.
- 31:43Dayna Roselli: But I love the heat because we have air conditioning going all the time in Vegas.
- 31:46Dayna Roselli: Um, all our properties and indoor, you know, things are and and we have covered parking mostly everywhere.
- 31:52Dayna Roselli: We have plenty of pools to go to, access to pools, public pools, hotel pools.
- 31:58Dayna Roselli: So it's great if you love if you do love the heat.
- 32:02Sean McAllister: And something to go along with the heat.
- 32:03Sean McAllister: Be prepared to drink more water than you think you need.
- 32:07Sean McAllister: Like a lot more water because it is a dry heat, and so you'll get dehydrated really quick.
- 32:14Sean McAllister: So you gotta stay on top of drinking your water.
- 32:16Dayna Roselli: And then something kind of related is when it's cold, it's cold.
- 32:19Sean McAllister: It is.
- 32:20Dayna Roselli: Because people will say, Oh, it's the 50s, you know, in Las Vegas in the you know, winter, and I'm like, it's 50s, but if the sun is not shining, it is a dry 50, which makes it very cold.
- 32:32Sean McAllister: It does.
- 32:32Dayna Roselli: And overnight when we have like 30s and 40s, it is like a bitter cold.
- 32:38Sean McAllister: I've gone out around my neighborhood these past few mornings, and the uh water from people's irrigation is in the the gutters and it's frozen over.
- 32:46Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 32:47Dayna Roselli: We've had a couple nights in the what was it, 28, 32?
- 32:50Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 32:51Sean McAllister: And my car dings and notifies me when it gets to 39 degrees, a big snowflake pops up on the dashboard.
- 32:57Dayna Roselli: True.
- 32:57Dayna Roselli: It does I know.
- 32:58Dayna Roselli: And sometimes our tires go a little flat and it says need air.
- 33:01Dayna Roselli: But here's the deal that happens like probably five days out of the year, right?
- 33:06Dayna Roselli: True.
- 33:07Dayna Roselli: Like around so it's not terrible.
- 33:10Dayna Roselli: Um December at the beginning half was beautiful, November was beautiful, but um the second half of December and January now that we're into, it's been pretty cold.
- 33:21Dayna Roselli: And then February, we usually have like it could be this or that.
- 33:25Dayna Roselli: There's years I've been like barbecuing on the back patio in a tank top during the Super Bowl.
- 33:29Dayna Roselli: I always say the Super Bowl because it's always in February, and there are other times where it's been chilly, you just don't know, hit or miss.
- 33:36Dayna Roselli: Then it really starts to kind of warm up and it's nice in March and April, and then it gets really hot in May.
- 33:41Sean McAllister: And listen, compared to other places in the country, we're not like sub-zero cold.
- 33:47Sean McAllister: However, people think Las Vegas and they think it's warm and hot all year round.
- 33:52Sean McAllister: And they come to Vegas in the wintertime with shorts and tank tops, and then they freeze their asses off.
- 33:57Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 33:57Dayna Roselli: No, it's true.
- 33:58Dayna Roselli: Very true, very true.
- 33:59Dayna Roselli: They think desert hot, but not all year, people.
- 34:02Sean McAllister: Right.
- 34:02Sean McAllister: So that's why you need to know that in the wintertime it does get cold.
- 34:06Dayna Roselli: Okay, another thing.
- 34:07Dayna Roselli: We have no state taxes.
- 34:08Dayna Roselli: It's a huge bonus.
- 34:09Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 34:10Dayna Roselli: I love it tax time that we don't have to fill out a state form.
- 34:13Dayna Roselli: I love that state taxes don't come out of our check.
- 34:16Dayna Roselli: You get a little bit more in the bank, but our car registration here in Nevada, in southern Nevada at least, is super high.
- 34:26Dayna Roselli: Well, you and I were lived in New York State, where listen, that's a whole that was state taxes and there were a lot of expenses there.
- 34:32Sean McAllister: Taxed out the wazoo.
- 34:33Dayna Roselli: But our like registration, I don't even know if they called it that.
- 34:35Dayna Roselli: Well, we had to get an inspection, right?
- 34:37Dayna Roselli: It was like 11 bucks or 18 bucks back.
- 34:39Dayna Roselli: This was back, I don't know what it is now, but say it's in the 20s, 30s.
- 34:42Sean McAllister: You take you go to the mechanic, they do an inspection on your car, and you get an inspection sticker, and that qualifies you to yeah, re-register your vehicle.
- 34:51Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 34:51Dayna Roselli: Well, not here in Nevada.
- 34:52Sean McAllister: No.
- 34:52Dayna Roselli: I have a 2019, literally just paid my registration last week, and it was four hundred and thirty-eight dollars.
- 35:01Dayna Roselli: And that's a three-year-old car.
- 35:03Dayna Roselli: As your car decreases in value through the years, your price will go down.
- 35:07Dayna Roselli: But if you have a brand new car, if you have an expensive car, the more expensive it is, the higher your registration.
- 35:14Dayna Roselli: But we're talking in the hundreds at least.
- 35:18Dayna Roselli: Oh, easy, above that per year.
- 35:20Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 35:21Sean McAllister: I think I my uh vehicle before the one that I have now uh was uh 2003 Mitsubishi Montero, and I drove it until the beginning of 2019, so that was 16 years old.
- 35:37Sean McAllister: I think I did end up getting my registration down to$98.
- 35:41Dayna Roselli: Wow, I've never heard of that.
- 35:43Sean McAllister: And I the it was like that voice in the back of my head, it was like, no, don't get rid of your car because you finally don't have to you're finally paying under a hundred bucks for registration.
- 35:55Sean McAllister: Right.
- 35:55Sean McAllister: And then of course I got a new car and then it was skyrocketed to like the five hundred several hundred, yeah.
- 36:03Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's it's huge.
- 36:04Dayna Roselli: So keep that in mind.
- 36:05Dayna Roselli: Car registration is expensive.
- 36:07Dayna Roselli: Something else that's expensive is car insurance, depending on where you live, and I'm not sure if it's like this everywhere, but all around the Las Vegas area, there are zip codes that are, you know, more accident-prone.
- 36:22Dayna Roselli: Accident prone.
- 36:23Dayna Roselli: That's what I'm looking for.
- 36:24Dayna Roselli: Yes.
- 36:25Dayna Roselli: Mine being one of them.
- 36:26Dayna Roselli: I live in the area of 89109, which is near the strip, and the car insurance is high there.
- 36:31Dayna Roselli: It's the price I pay because there are more accidents near the strip.
- 36:35Dayna Roselli: There are, you know, people that are up late at night and things like that.
- 36:39Dayna Roselli: So um it's pretty high.
- 36:41Dayna Roselli: But if I live and when I live down in the southwest part of the valley, it was significantly lower.
- 36:47Sean McAllister: Yeah, so that's something to keep in mind, you know.
- 36:50Sean McAllister: Even though we don't have the income tax, they do get the money out of you one way or another, don't they?
- 36:56Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 36:57Dayna Roselli: Uh one of my other kind of things to know is the highway isn't always the way around in Las Vegas.
- 37:03Sean McAllister: No.
- 37:03Dayna Roselli: It you know, because we've got like we've got highway and it's very busy and things like that.
- 37:08Dayna Roselli: But we're almost like, I want to say almost like a big circle with a big act uh big T in the middle.
- 37:15unknown: Yeah.
- 37:15Dayna Roselli: Some highway or like a T and then a little bit more in the north.
- 37:20Dayna Roselli: We've got the spaghetti bowl.
- 37:22Dayna Roselli: So we have I-15 that runs straight through the middle of Up and down.
- 37:26Dayna Roselli: Up and down.
- 37:27Dayna Roselli: 215 that runs, you know, east to west in the kind of lower-ish part.
- 37:33Dayna Roselli: Summerland Parkway in 95 that runs east to west, and then 95 that continues up north to the west, 15 who continues up north straight down the middle, and we've got the 95 on the east side.
- 37:46Dayna Roselli: But that's really it.
- 37:47Dayna Roselli: So we have a lot of space in between and pockets where what I'm trying to get at is sometimes the surface streets are the way, and a lot of people choose to take surface streets.
- 37:55Sean McAllister: I know you are a surface street lover.
- 37:57Dayna Roselli: Love it.
- 37:58Dayna Roselli: Whenever I have to drive to Sean's, I have to take the highway, and I always complain about it.
- 38:03Dayna Roselli: But yeah, so anyway, the highway isn't always the way.
- 38:06Dayna Roselli: If you love highway driving and you like to just get places by just being on the highway, that's not the case here.
- 38:12Dayna Roselli: Sometimes you got to take the surface streets to kind of maneuver around to get places.
- 38:16Dayna Roselli: And we have a lot of roads that start and then stop too, and then continue on another.
- 38:20Sean McAllister: And then pick up later somewhere else in the valley.
- 38:23Sean McAllister: Uh, for people looking for homes, something that you may want to know is uh if you're coming from a part of the country where there's a lot of different types of architecture, generally speaking, you're not gonna find that here.
- 38:37Dayna Roselli: No.
- 38:38Dayna Roselli: We call it cookie cutter homes, right?
- 38:40Dayna Roselli: Track homes, very popular stucco.
- 38:43Dayna Roselli: Yeah, a lot of stucco.
- 38:44Sean McAllister: Tile roofs.
- 38:46Dayna Roselli: It's different, you know.
- 38:46Dayna Roselli: I mean, and some people like the the look and feel of a newer home and a kind of a cookie cutter home, and the everything kind of looks the same feel.
- 38:54Dayna Roselli: Others do not.
- 38:55Dayna Roselli: So keep in mind you will find a lot of that here.
- 38:58Dayna Roselli: And when I say that, I also mean like the entire yard.
- 39:01Dayna Roselli: Like your yard is sometimes in the back, just like a brick wall, literally, you know, surrounding a very small yard.
- 39:08Dayna Roselli: Big yards are not and you'd think because we're in the middle of the desert and we have all this land that big yards would be all over the place, but they they they are not.
- 39:16Sean McAllister: Especially in the newer neighborhoods that are that have been built and are being built, the lot sizes are very small.
- 39:24Sean McAllister: It's enough for a house, maybe a small patio, and that's it.
- 39:29Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 39:30Dayna Roselli: I mean, if you're looking for a larger yard, you usually have to go to older neighborhoods and more of the older Vegas homes.
- 39:35Dayna Roselli: But and then obviously, you know, the rich will always be the rich.
- 39:38Dayna Roselli: They have big homes and big yards.
- 39:41Dayna Roselli: Right?
- 39:42Dayna Roselli: So we do have plenty of those available too.
- 39:44Dayna Roselli: Such is life.
- 39:45Dayna Roselli: So we do life.
- 39:46Dayna Roselli: No, but a lot of the um just want to point out some of the track homes, if they're a neighborhood with like, you know, a gate or something like that, they usually have like a community area, like a park and a pool.
- 39:54Dayna Roselli: So it kind of is sort of your community, your community backyard.
- 40:00Sean McAllister: And something else I wanted to point out for people who are new to Las Vegas, uh, you know, people always make fun of us for uh making a big deal out of it when it rains.
- 40:11Sean McAllister: Mainly because it doesn't really rain a lot.
- 40:14Sean McAllister: But one of the reasons that we do make a big deal out of it is because it is very hazardous on the roads.
- 40:22Sean McAllister: What happens here is that because most of the year it is so hot, the oil from the asphalt in the roads uh rises to the surface of our streets.
- 40:34Sean McAllister: And then when it rains, oil and water don't mix very well, and it makes the streets very slippery.
- 40:40Sean McAllister: And for people who are not used to driving in Las Vegas in the rain, sometimes they go a little too quick.
- 40:48Sean McAllister: And that causes accidents, people spin out all the time.
- 40:52Sean McAllister: That's why when it rains in Las Vegas, any amount, you see a lot of accidents.
- 40:57Sean McAllister: So just keep that in mind and be extra cautious.
- 41:00Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and if it's our version of black ice, right?
- 41:03Sean McAllister: It is, it is exactly.
- 41:05Sean McAllister: So there's a lot of information and tips for you if you are planning to move to Las Vegas or if you're a new resident here.
- 41:13Dayna Roselli: Um, and just quickly, hey, but we love it.
- 41:16Dayna Roselli: We have a variety of things to do.
- 41:18Dayna Roselli: You can go luxury, or you can just go to a movie theater and a mall and be a normal person, or you can, you know, stay home and go swimming.
- 41:27Dayna Roselli: We have such a we can go to the best shows, you can go to small shows, uh, all sorts of stuff to do here.
- 41:34Dayna Roselli: It's really one of the greatest cities on earth, is what I like to say.
- 41:39Dayna Roselli: Forget Disney World.
- 41:40Dayna Roselli: We're the greatest city on earth.
- 41:42Sean McAllister: We really are.
- 41:42Sean McAllister: It's amazing here, and that's why we've each been here for so long.
- 41:45Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 41:46Dayna Roselli: We moved here in in 2004, 2005 and never looked back.
- 41:49Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 41:49Dayna Roselli: All right, two other quick tips we wanted to go through because they were pre-planned before we got this question.
- 41:54Dayna Roselli: I wanted to mention that the drop bar reopened over at Green Valley Ranch.
- 41:58Dayna Roselli: That is the uh hotel casino that is in the southeast part of the valley in the Henderson area, Green Valley area, a station casino, right?
- 42:07Dayna Roselli: And I know you lived near there for a very long time.
- 42:10Sean McAllister: I love it over there, yeah.
- 42:11Sean McAllister: So you know the drop bar.
- 42:12Sean McAllister: I know the drop bar very well, right in the center of the casino, and now it's got a whole new look.
- 42:18Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 42:18Sean McAllister: It's been renovated.
- 42:20Dayna Roselli: I'm excited to go see it.
- 42:21Dayna Roselli: They have a DJ that performs there now.
- 42:23Dayna Roselli: They've got a new craft cocktail menu and all that kind of stuff.
- 42:27Dayna Roselli: They just celebrated 20 years at Green Valley Ranch.
- 42:30Dayna Roselli: So congratulations and happy, happy anniversary.
- 42:33Sean McAllister: Also, uh the Palms, as we've mentioned in the past, is getting ready to reopen with new ownership, San Manuel Gaming.
- 42:41Sean McAllister: Uh, and they're looking to hire.
- 42:43Sean McAllister: They need to fill some positions over there.
- 42:45Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I mean, it's a whole property, right?
- 42:47Dayna Roselli: So if this kind of goes along with if you're thinking about moving to Vegas.
- 42:50Dayna Roselli: If you need a job, you might want to check out the Palms.
- 42:53Dayna Roselli: That's the Palms, yeah, we'll be opening at some time here in the next, you know, probably first quarter of the year.
- 43:00Sean McAllister: First quarter, yeah.
- 43:00Sean McAllister: So springtime.
- 43:02Dayna Roselli: So uh they need people, and we're talking all sorts of positions.
- 43:05Dayna Roselli: So check them out online.
- 43:08Sean McAllister: Whew, man, that was a packed hundredth episode.
- 43:12Sean McAllister: It was.
- 43:12Dayna Roselli: I think I'm gonna go back and listen to our answering machine again.
- 43:16Sean McAllister: That is a wrap for us.
- 43:18Sean McAllister: We will see you back here for episode 101 next week.
