- Sean Graver: You just realize something. Nothing's actually wrong today. No fires to put out, no emergency emails, and no one waiting on you with bad news. And somehow, instead of just enjoying the calm, you find yourself scanning for something to worry about anyway. Maybe that project might go sideways, or maybe that conversation you had yesterday might have landed wrong. you're manufacturing stress out of thin air. And you've noticed you're doing it more and more. Well, my name is Sean, and welcome back to Prayer Before Work. Jesus addresses this exact pattern pretty directly in Matthew 6, verse 34. He says, Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. And that last phrase is almost funny if you think about it. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Jesus is basically saying there's already enough real trouble built into an ordinary day. You don't need to go borrowing tomorrow's on top of it. So if you've noticed yourself hunting for problems on a calm day, it might be worth asking what that habit is actually protecting you from. Sometimes constant vigilance. seems safer than letting your guard down. Like if you stay braced for bad news, it can't catch you off guard. But that kind of approach, I mean, there's a cost to it. It it steals the peace of an actually good day, which is a real and limited resource. Today, when you catch yourself scanning for a problem that isn't there, try try just admitting it even to yourself and then intentionally let it go. A quiet day isn't something to be suspicious of. It's something to receive with genuine thanks. So let's pray. God, thank you for the calm days and forgive us for how quickly we fill them with worry that isn't ours even to carry yet. And help us notice when we're borrowing tomorrow's trouble and remind us to set it back down. Teach us to actually enjoy the peace you give us instead of treating it as something. suspicious and help us trust that you'll be present in tomorrow's problems when they actually arrive without us needing to rehearse them today. In Jesus' name, amen. Now go make today count.
