- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: What's up everybody and welcome to another episode of Scouting Defends right here on the The Raspberry Carrier podcast.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Now we're also part of the five reasons sports network coach.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: We are just about just under a week away from the 2026 NFL draft.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost here.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well a little more than a week now, but.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we've been doing this for feels like a couple of months now we've been going through all of these prospects talking about every position group the guys that we really like the guys that we would like to see more out of and as we get closer here now it's time to kind of put that all together and see what we as, you know, kind of pseudo GMs can do in the in the mock draft world.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: We're actually going to be doing a dueling a three round mock draft.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: So what's going to go is we're going to be using the PFF mock draft simulator first.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: We're going three rounds because the dolphins have.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: about seven picks in the top 100.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: So that's seven potential players.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: We both could be put picking each.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: So Eric will go first on the first half of the show.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go last on the second half of the show.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: So let's go ahead and get right into it.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: Coach, here we go.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, we're going to go ahead and enter the draft.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins obviously are picking number 11
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: If the board fell the way you wanted it to, is there a specific player you would be targeting at number 11 regardless of what their position, their value is?
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think that if I had my perfect scenario, it would be to see sunny styles fall to the dolphin at 11.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's outside of,
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: Fernando Mendoza being the number one overall pick.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think that sunny styles is probably the one player that I feel has the most potential to kind of be a generational type player.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: When we talk about the different guys and the draft I understand, there's a position value conversation to have there as well, but had he fallen that would have, you know, I'd have been running in that pick, but clearly didn't have it that way.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it looks like sunny styles goes to pick number eight with the Norley and Saints, then Dylan Thuneman, number nine to Kansas City, and Monroe Freeling at number 10, which has the dolphins and their options at number 11 with Caleb Downs.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: Carnell Tate, Spencer Fano, Canyon Sadique, Mackay Levin, Vega Ion, Dremon McCoy, CJ Allen, Jordan Tyson, and a little bit of more good blue chip prospect players.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then you also have trade down options as well with several teams going on.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll probably avoid the trade down options just because in my opinion, it's tough to,
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like to trade down in mock drafts for me just because if a team is going to trade down in the NFL draft, then they're also going to be trading up also and I don't think that mock drafts really give great options.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: To be able to trade back up, you may see years a little different, but probably with the trade talks, I'm probably going to stick and pick with most of them.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: Looking at what's on the board here, like this is kind of, I don't want to say
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: because when we look at the names that are on here, there's well, three names, right?
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: I do like Cornell Tate, probably can't see us in area where he's my top guy, Spencer Fano is another one that makes a lot of sense for the dolphins.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I think a lot of that comes down to how they feel about their existing line.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, they could, you know, they have a starting five they could put out there.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: It might not be the best starting five.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: Fano would be a piece that would improve that offensive line
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: One way or another, whether he's a guard, whether there's a tackle, whether they, you know, play him as the left guard or somewhere on the right side.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: But the player that I'm gonna choose here is going to be Caleb Downs.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like this was going to be the pick for a while if Downs is on the board.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: The way the Jeff Haffley has talked about safety's and the way that he sees the game through them.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think Caleb Downs is a perfect fit to be the inaugural pick of this draft for a Jeff Haffley team.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: But just looking at those three players, I don't know if we traded down five six spots
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: available and that's, you know, when it comes to pick 11, that's probably why I would most likely stick and pick regardless of what options there are.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a really good pick for Caleb Downs.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: He bolsters the secretary, you need a guy who can control the deep third of the fuel, a guy who can play that box can be that nickel-safe, dehybrid, tap the player as well.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: He played a lot
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know cover two tap a coverage and also it held up the back end half part of the field I'd Alabama and you know map Patricia used him a little bit more so in the box Because you know Ohio State's defensive line was just that good where they could get pressure And Caleb Downs could just come swing right through rack up tackles make plays on the ball and break up those picks where
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: opposing offense is really couldn't get the ball going anywhere, it'll be a little bit different in my, I do think if Caleb Downs is picked there.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: Alright coach, you got pick number 30 now in the first round, a couple of guys have gone already like Germán McCoy, Caldric Folk, Omar Cooper, Jr. Blake Miller, Ione has gone as well.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: And Fanna was picked up 15th by the book and years.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: You have a couple of options like Max Ayonacho, Denzel Boston, Peter Woods, Colton Hood,
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and a lot of good options still here.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: Casey can set you on.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: May you my highest rated player that's left on the board, but I love him as a player.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know if that's the type of receiver that they wanna add to the room with what they have there.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: Can you show me what else is available in the wide receiver position?
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, you have Denzel Boston, Conceptione, Chris Bell, Jeremy Bernard, Brazil, the second Skyler Bell and Bryce Lans.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: And can you also show me the edges that are available?
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: So the edges, the highest ranked right now is Zion, Zion, Jung, Armace and Thomas, Jockeys, Malachi Lawrence, Joshua Josephs, and Derek Moore.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, so the one that I was probably hoping really fell to this position was gonna be TJ Parker.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's another edge that I have a round one grade on.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think it would be a really good fit.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: For what the dolphins are missing defensively right now is that four, three defensive end that can also play some three, four outside linebacker.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think that Parker would be a good fit in that.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: But if we go back to the overall listing here,
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: I got, so I have a lower grade on Maxi and Nacho than what it is here, right?
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: But I also think that given the potential he has, I think he's going to get drafted higher than what his tape is right now.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, when I look at the options going down further,
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: Ian Notch was a player that I don't know if he would be ready to start day one, but I think the ceiling is through the roof for him, I think that if you get him in and start to develop him, that this could be somebody that takes over for Austin Jackson a year later, right?
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: And he may even be able to spend some time at guard as well.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: They're not satisfied with what they have there, but based on the way,
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: this fell right i i think that maxi a natural is probably going to be my pick here just to give us that swing tackle from day one kind of bills that depth that we're missing on the offensive line right now yeah big big athlete six six three hundred and thirty pounds still development technically inconsistent but again you see it pfff is saying you know he has the physical tools
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: of an offensive tackle that can work in zone schemes that Arizona State runs, you know, he's able to move with his feet, guard the backside or guard the play side, three tech, five tech and really get physical and mall players in the running game.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: And you know,
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: with this selection, Bobby Slowix run game, it's very powerful.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: You have very, very big guys and obviously Austin Jackson, John Patrick Paul, and now Max Eheonacho, and you couple that with Jonas Savinaya and Jamari Sallier potentially, as you're two maybe three guards, those are big bodies that can really move people in the run game.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: Pick number 43 coach the highest rated player on the board right now is Brandon Sissy case he concept she on was taken by the Raiders pregnant on by the Titans Denzel Boston by the Cardinals Jeremy Bernard was the last pick to the New Orleans Saints Yes, I think I know what direction I'm going here.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Let's take a look at the corner backs.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see what's on the board there
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: So some some good names there, but nobody don't really thrilled with it this position.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Ignos and would be one that would get some serious consideration by do think there is a bit of overlap between Ignos and what you have in a guy like Marshall, judo, brensos, bigger, more physical type cornerbacks.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: Go over to the edge room for me.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: I got you, unless the deep ones won.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: Ed, you have Armace and Thomas, Gabe Jockus, Malachi, Lawrence, Joseph, some more Denison and Romero height.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess that Zion Young came off the board there as well.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: And that was kind of hoping that he would make it here.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: I have him just a tick below TJ Park right there, very similar players.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think that Zion Young gives you a lot of the same things.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: Take you back to the wide receiver group.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: Your next highest is Chris Bell, Chris Brazil, the second scholar, Bell, Bryce Lens, Antonio Williams.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: And so with this one, I'm gonna go with Elijah Sarat.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: I know this is a little higher than what the board here shows, but I don't have confidence that
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Sarat is going to be there for our next pick.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: And this is, you know, a bigger receiver that gives Malik Willis a guy that you can throw it up to and go get.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think when we talk about receivers that block in this type of offense, that, you know, that Sarat's going to give you a lot of that.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think that he would be a good fit in this offense.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you play a wider silver and safety and high school, 700 yards, 13 touchdowns.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: in high school.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Then he committed to James Madison, leading wide receiver with 1200 yards, 8 touchdowns.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: Returned further final season Indiana to help win that national title, 824 yards, 15 touchdowns.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: I do think this is a bit too high for Elijah Sarat just where he's being picked.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, look, I get he's reliable.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: He has those active hands.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's a big body guy, but when you're talking about light or severs, especially in the second round, these are guys that can be your predominant XY receiver that have that juice, that sunness, that, you know, twitch, that can gain that yak.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: And Serat is necessarily not really that type of guy.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting, you know, that's your determination picking him up when you have a guy like, you know, Chris Bell six to a much bigger guy can block.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: But Chris Bell does have that injury ACL history as well, that does make it a bit weary for John Erick Sullivan and Jeff Hathley.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I don't have a whole lot of separation between Serat, Brazil, Chris Bell.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: Those are all pretty similar on my board.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: where to look at the wider severs that are left.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I think most of those guys probably went off the board there, which is why I wasn't necessarily comfortable waiting to see if one of them would fall.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, with this one, that's okay.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, with the next pick.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, go ahead.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Number 75.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: As you said, those wide receivers are gone.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the good cornerbacks are gone.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: And Davis and Ignosen was the last pick to the chiefs at pick number 74 coach.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: So let's, let's take a look at the tight ends and see what's on the board, right?
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: I do think that they need to add a wide type
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: There's a few guys that I like in this draft for that purpose, rouse and dollar and Bentley, both still available both, you know, probably the top two why prospects that I have.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: Take a look at the linebackers.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: You got a linebacker safety type of hybrid and Kyle Lewis available a 61220 pounds Anthony Hold Jr out of Texas, Kishan Elliott out of Arizona State, Deonte Lawson out of Alabama too.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so, and this is not necessarily the position of most need, but this is a place for me that a player that I really like.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: I have him as my second linebacker on the board.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: And if we get down here into round three now and this player's still there, Anthony Hill Jr is gonna be my pick no matter what if he is on there.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, not necessarily the biggest position of need, but I think that he is a really good player.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: And if he's on the board at this point, he's a great value regardless of positional need.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: Interesting.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: So with Anthony Hill Jr.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: He's what, six, two, six, three, two, 20, or on two, 22, 25, right coach, right?
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: Sounds about right.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: How do you see him fitting alongside Jordan Brooks in this defense?
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think he would take your Tyrell Dodson role right off the bat.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think that he becomes, you know, whether you're running a four, three, a three, four, a four, two, five, a three, three, five,
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: You're almost always going to have two linebackers on the field.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think that you put Jordan Brooks and Anthony Hill together is your two primary linebackers.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, think about the way that the Ravens did it with Patrick Queen and number zero, I am drawn on Smith like, yes, the way the two of them played together.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think you'd have kind of a similar relationship there, where the two of them are on the field constantly together.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: All right, now we're getting into the final three picks for the Dolphins 8790 and 94.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: Pick number 87, Coach, you're on the clock.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Titan Max Clare was pick, Chandler Rivers at a Duke was picked by the Chargers at number 86.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: Kamari Ramsey, the safety from USC is off the board for the Carolina Panthers.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so with that last pick, we talked about Titan a little bit, right, and
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: Sam Ralph's probably what do I pick at the last spot had Anthony Hill not been on there.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: I do think that the wide tight end is a big need for the dolphins right now.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: So knowing that I passed up on him once and he is my number two tight end on the board.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to pass on him again here.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think that he you know adds more in the running game than any tight end that we have on the roster right now.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: and has upside as a receiver as well.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: He would, his skills would match up really well with Greg Dolcech and kind of fill out that room.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I like him with that pick.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: All right, in between those two picks, Edge Rush or LT over to Notta Valabama and Sam Hett out of Kansas State or picked up, you're still on the board at number 90 coach.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: So let's see what's there in the safety room.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: Because I do think that's positioned that Miami would like to go with two players there.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: And as I see here, I'm pretty sure I know where I'm going to go with this one.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: Let's look at the edges again.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: So you have Kieran Crawford, Jason Barham, Anthony Lucas, the Kilcomera Tyrexat.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: Let's look at the corners and I'll make my decision after that one.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: You have Dale and Everett, Malik, Mohammed will leave the third.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: Tack Davis, Jalen, Kilburr.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought I was going to go Bud Clark.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: I really like Bud Clark.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think the him paired with Caleb Bounds would make a lot of sense, but seeing Malik, Mohammed still on the board.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: high on and I think that he brings something a little bit different to the corner back room.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: So my pick here is going to be Malik Mohammed because there are still some other safetys that I do like on the board.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: but there's no corners that I like as much as I like Malik Ma'am.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: I like that pick of Malik Ma'am at six foot just a tad under 200 very scrappy guy.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: He can play the nickel and primarily it was utilized outside at taxes as well.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: He might look a little bit under size but don't let his size and wait for you.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: He can really work with the best of them.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: He's SEC battle tested, played on a Texas defense with some great players, and really held his own.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: Especially in a sophomore junior year, but just the production wavered a little bit in his senior season, and you have to add a little bit of context to that because quarterbacks weren't necessarily throwing his way coach.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you got to have opportunities, right?
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a cornerback.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's easy for quarterbacks to avoid you.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's easy for those opportunities to go down.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: So if the target's dropped and chances are your production and your box score numbers are going to drop with that as well.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: Last pick in the third round pick number 94.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: Ted Hearst was picked up by the Dallas Cowboys.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'd number 92.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: Dale and Everett out of Georgia was picked up by the Rams at number 93.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so I mean, there are, I would like to see opportunities for the dolphins to double down in this draft.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that I've done that yet here.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: Jalen Farmer would be another good opportunity to do that on the offensive line to add some more depth there.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: Kira and Crawford, another good player to add to the edge room, bring something a little bit different there.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: Do we, we didn't pick an edge yet, did we?
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: No, he's kind of missed out on the ones that I like the most there.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: So let's take a look and see what is in the edroom currently.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: You got Curing Crawford, Jason Barham, Anthony Lucas, McKill, Camira.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I don't think that I like, so I like some of those players.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: I like Curing Crawford, I like Jason Barham.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're kind of similar tight players and maybe not the type of
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: I would like to add.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: I like Michaela Kamara, but kind of reminds me a little bit of.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: What was the Kamara that we brought in?
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, mom and Kamara, we brought him in.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of has some length issues the same way, and I have some concerns there.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_00]: Tyreeksat probably fits physically what I would like most out of the edges, but that's not a player that I've really looked at, so I'm not going to go and make that pick just because I haven't
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: given him the detail that I would like to.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: But if we go back over to the safety room, I think that Bud Clark was still on the board.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, he is.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I, you know, I think there's enough edges that you could get by.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's enough safety that you can really get
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: I like him a lot, but I don't know if I like him as a starter.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of like Lonnie Johnson, but that's not a position that are not a player that I'm avoiding upgrading.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I would go bud Clark here, that gives you Caleb Downs, bud Clark, is your likely starting duo rate away in the rest of him, can battle it out for that third sea deep position.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think that Downs and
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: bud Clark would pair really nicely together in Jeff Halfley's defense.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a pretty good defense.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: A hall right there.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: You have three defensive backs, downs, and Clark is two storing safeties, both rookies.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I hear a notch over as your potential right guard swing tackle replacement for Austin Jackson Elijah Serrat as another weapon.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: from Malik, Willis, Anthony Hill, Jr., to pair up what Jordan Brooks and Sam Rusch, six, six, wide-eyed end that can beat your tie-dend to as your blocker, your guy who's your motion man, who can pretty much replace Julian Hill snaps from last year.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: I would say that's a pretty good haul their coach.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty satisfied with it.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is going to be a draft that you're not going to be able to fill every hole that you have.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that when you, you know, we added to safety, this is a room we added a verse, ile offensive lineman that has upside.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: I do think that Sarada brings something different to that wide receiver room, Anthony Hill was more of a best player available.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: Roush is a tight end that we needed.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: Malik Mohammed adds something different to that cornerback room.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: If I have one regret about the draft,
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't find that four, three defensive end has that hybrid ability that I would have loved to come away with a TJ Parker, a Zion young, a Gabe Yakis, a Celtic fall.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: I would have loved to come out with one of them, but I don't know who I would have necessarily given up here for either.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: So like I said, I think there are a lot of holes that would be filled with this three round mock draft, but the edge room is the one that
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: kind of got away there.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think Malachi Lawrence was available at pick number 43, for sure.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: And he could have been a stand-up past pressure of 43334 type of guy that could have switched, could have been used in the buck roll.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: Same way with Kiran Crawford as well, but Crawford's arms and hands are a little bit shorter than that.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um,
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: But you're analysis of Malay Kuala's needing a wide receiver weapon.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you had taken Lawrence over Sarat and then put in Anthony Hill at number 75, you still would have the option to pick up Rouge at number 90 and Ted Hurst at pick number 87,
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: you could have got in potential better fits.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just, one, it's not a guarantee that Ted Hurst makes them, right?
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: You're rolling the dice out of the same way that I did with the ad-droom.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: And two, I think that Elijah Sarat is a more NFL ready, wide receiver from day one, than what Ted Hurst is, so that kind of played into it.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: as well is getting somebody getting the league somebody that is ready to contribute from day one versus a smaller school guy like Ted Hearst that you know is probably going to have at least some sort of adjustment to the NFL.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so PFF grades your draft as a B minus more so but the bottom 33% of many blind me dolphin straps because do you feel like you got your guys in this draft?
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I like what what I got.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: I like some of the the edge room would have been the one.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: The wider receiver was the one pick that I felt that I kind of reached a little bit, but that's also
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: the biggest gap in the draft that are going from 43 to 75 for the Dolphins, I wanted to make sure that I got Malik Willis some sort of weapon to work with and I wasn't confident in what was going to be there if I didn't make that move at 43.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well coach, thank you so much
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: So now coach did his three round mock draft picked up Caleb Downs at number 11 which was a phenomenal pick by the way, I'd be ecstatic.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: Max, I hear not sure.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: I pick number three, Elijah Sarat at number 43 Anthony Hill Jr at 75 San Rouge at 87, Malik Muhammad at 90 and Bud Clarke at 94.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: as a very solid hull and players that can contribute to the Miami Dolphins right away and we'll go ahead and do my three round mock draft.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: All right, you ready for this one, Coach?
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: Always look forward to what you're going to do here.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's do this.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: sunny styles goes number two.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: You go back to back in Ruben, Bane, Jr., and Maui, go of five to six.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: Carnal T at seven, Caleb Downs at eight.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: David Bailey drops to number nine with Vega, I own at 10.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: And coach, we have a lot of good options here at number 11.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to lie.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: you have Mansour Delane, Dylan Theonamin, Spencer Fano, Monroe Freeling, Canyon Sadique, Mackay Lem and Jamad McCoy.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: With six trade-down options available, got the jets, lions, tie-ins, packers as well.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, I wonder who could be available and who actually fits the dolphins the best because I'm kind of leaning towards a trade-down here at Coach, what are your thoughts?
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: It does not surprise me that you are leaning towards a trade-down, I kind of expected that for me to sound, I'd be disappointed if you didn't.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: But now, there are good options here still.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: Delane is my number one corner on the board.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: Thineman has gotten a lot of steam and I could understand going that direction at 11, because there is a big gap between Thineman and my third safety, which would be Emmanuel McNeil Warren.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: But if that was a scenario that you didn't, if Thineman was your guy, right, you'd want to get him, but you weren't confident you could get him at 30, then I could definitely see a scenario where you'd go there, talked about Fano, freely is my top tackle on the board.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_00]: some good options here.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_00]: But before you trade down, if you had to stick here to 11 of you, did not have a trade down partner, who would be your pick here at 11?
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: If I did not have a trade down partner, my pick here at number 11, and this is a hard one.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, just based off a Jeff Hathley's interest, because I know he would be loving having one sword delay in here.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: This is not Jeff Hathley's draft.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: This is John Eric Sullivan's draft.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: And he's not going based off of emotions for Jeff Hathley.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's going based off the structure of the team.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: And right now, the structure of the team is Jeff Hathley's defense and Malikul is a Bobby Slox offense.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: And who could actually have a much bigger
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: Impact, and it's obviously the offense, right?
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: You need to give Malik a willest time.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: You need to give him time to throw to the receivers.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: You need to give Devon H lead some support with his offensive line that can open up lanes, and my pick here would be Spencer Fano at number 11.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: I talked about it on my Twitter how he pretty much fits the Dolphins offense like a glove, but
- 31:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the GM here and I'm actually going to trade down and collect some picks here as well.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: And guys going to hate me, but the best available picks right now is with the New York Jets.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to send a New York pick 11 for pick 16 and pick 44 so that way I get a second second round pick as well.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: And it's accepted.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see how the board falls here guys.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: And who did you give the jets when you did that?
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I gave him Spencer Fano.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, look at here, I think Jeff Hathley must be looking his chops, because you have the highest rated quarterback still available on at the board.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: And your number one offensive tackle on the board coach.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: So let me ask you,
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think Monroe Freeling can be a right tackle in the NFL with Bobby Slurrex?
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: Bobby Slurrex often?
- 32:25[SPEAKER_00]: Do I think he can, yes, but we also just saw last year that it's not flipping sides as not a guaranteed thing, right?
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, right if I'm drafting for the dolphins,
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: Left Tackle is obviously in one of the best situations of the entire NFL for the dolphins.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't, Monroe Freely is not gonna be a left Tackle in Miami.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: So you'd have to go to the right side.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't, I don't know that I like Monroe's Freelying ability to transition to guard as much as I do Spencer Fano.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: ton of separation between the two for me, but even though freely is my number one guy on my overall board, I would pick Fano for the dolphins ahead of him because I do think that he can be a right tackle, but even if he can't be a right tackle, I think he's got a very high ceiling as a guard as well.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that Fano is one of these safest picks in the draft,
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: it would be a great start to, you know, the Jeff Haffley, John Eric Sullivan, era for the dolphins, so that would be my thoughts, I know.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I gave him over to the jets instead.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: And they tried to do it.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: And it's weird though, because the jets already have a plethora of offence of linemen.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_00]: What do they have to do?
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: Too many, right?
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: You can never have too many.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, my pick right here is actually going to be one sore delay out of Ellison and
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: This comes out of point where Jeff Haffley really hasn't made his defense yet, right?
- 34:14[SPEAKER_01]: And he said in his presser, he's going to build his defense based on the players that he has.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: Now, when Sword Delane, it's very sticky in man coverage.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: And guess what, at Virginia Tech, he played a lot of cover 3, played a lot of cover 6 as well.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_01]: So he can also work in zone coverage.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: when Sword Delane can play as well.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: He's got patient feet and hips when working in press covers.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins don't have a good press corner right now.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: Jason Marsha, Jr. can be your nickel or maybe your number two guy.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: You have Lonnie Johnson who's 6263.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: He could be your opposite boundary corner.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: And not only that, Delane has impressive ball skills with eight intersections in his career.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: I do think his arms are a little bit shorter for a boundary corner.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_01]: and he's not as aggressive in the run game but Jeff Halfley's corners.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: They see the ball, they attack the ball and that's why his defensive backs are going to do and that's what one sort of lane has done at Virginia Tech and LSU and he's going to be doing the same thing in my Amoeefy's picked here.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah and I think it was John Eric Sullivan who talked about I think there was a question about that and he talked about corners and the different ways that
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: metrics versus measurements can kind of work together right if a player is not as tall for example I think that you said but he has a giant vertical leap that it kind of makes up for something I think you see some of that with the lane.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: In the time that I watched the lane there was never a point in that film and I'm like hey he's got short arms right that's one of the things that came out you know when the measurements come out so I don't see that being a big negative for him
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's also got really nice defensive stops, 14 in 2024 and 2023, less than 550 yards allowed in 2024, less than 323, only less than 170 in 2025, which is phenomenal.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: less than, you know, 60% completion rate in 2023, 47 in 2024, 40% in 2025.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_01]: He was thrown at 30, he was thrown at 35 times and only gave up 14 catch-ups coach.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that is phenomenal right there.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: All right, next pick is number 30.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: And we've got TJ Parker gone, Blake Miller gone, Keldrick Falk gone, a manual with Neil Warren gone.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_01]: What we do have two offensive tackles and Caden Proctor, Max Aheonachow, Denzel Boston, Caleb Banks, Colton Hood, Casey Conceptione, and Emmanuel Pregnant.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think right here, at pick number 30,
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go with Max.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: I hear Nacho.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean coach you made some very good points about him.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: He can be your swing tackle when Austin Jackson has down has the ability to play it right tackle, play it a little bit of right tackle at Arizona State can also slide into guard, you know, if
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: He can't necessarily move his feet that well, you know, on those outside zone blocks, he can at least help inside, you know, on those men, those, uh, pull reads and those pull lead plays that Devon Hane and Mike McDaniel cooked up last year, and I'm sure Bobby slowly could have the same too.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: So we're picking a max out here, not show here at pick number theory.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and don't know a whole lot to add to it like I think that he is, like,
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: When the light bulb clicks, I think that you're going to be talking about one of the high level tackles in the league for Eonachor.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: For me, the biggest thing that I need to see him do is to be able to handle those explosive past rushes through his chest like I feel like there's times that he hasn't learned how to play big in those scenarios.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: And when he does learn how to play
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: uh we've got two back-to-back picks here in the second round pick number 43 and pick number 44 right here I think there's no need based on how the board has fallen you know we've got Zion Young Ty Simpson, D'Angelo Ponds, Jacob Rodriguez, Chris Johnson, Armace and Thomas you have Gabe Joccus, Halcy, Eli Stower's Malachi Lawrence Keyante Scott available
- 38:58[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like maybe you go back just a little bit.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: You have pick number 43.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: You also have pick number 44.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: You can use that pick 43 to get a little bit more of a haul.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe an extra pick in the later fourth or fifth round as well, but obviously we're not picking here for this mock trap.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: I do like Zion.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: Young here, he can play 34, 4, 3.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_01]: He can be a lineback or two.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean Malachi Lawrence is also available later on same with Gabe Jocas.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: I do like Jacob Rodriguez here as a linebacker, maybe even Chris Johnson as the secondary guy.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe Jeff Haffley could be seeing and John Erick Sullivan could be seeing.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_01]: Let's have an aggressive press heavy defense that can also couple, you know, with cover two, cover three as well with our boundary corners and safeties that we pick up here.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think I'm going to trade back with the Pittsburgh Steelers here with pick number 53, 46, and see if we can get also pick number 76 in the third round.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: So who would be your pick at 43?
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, my pick at 43 would have been Zion Young here.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm willing to give up as a man, young to be honest.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's got some off-field character issues as well.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not so sure that I'll boldwell with Jeff Haffley and John Erick Sullivan, they want high character guys.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: There was a theme in last year's draft as well.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: They want young guys as well.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think right here, Coach, now we have a bunch of options.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: We can pick and choose and we can get kind of greedy here.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_01]: We can get a linebacker to pair up when Jordan Brooks and Jacob Rodriguez.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: Six one, two hundred thirty five pounds, you know, he can really bulldoze offensive guards, really work in the run game.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: He's not necessarily the best in coverage.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: But that's what you're asking Jacob Rodriguez to do.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: You can have Jordan Brooks be that guy in coverage and he's been able to carry running backs and tight ends, especially last year in Miami.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: Then you have a guy like Chris Johnson, who can play a lot of press as well.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: Do you double dip in defensive backs here?
- 41:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think if it was up to me,
- 41:25[SPEAKER_01]: I would get another corner back and really solidify what Jeff Hathley wants.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_01]: He wants a multiple defense that can play press that can also be in zone coverage, with whoever he has for his safety or his quarterback.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm picking up a high character guy in Chris Johnson coach.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I like Chris Johnson as a player.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: It'll be interesting to see how the rest of it goes just because we're not like we're adding a lot of a lot of bodies that still have a lot to uncover in that room, right?
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: You have the two rookies now.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: You have juju-brens.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_00]: You have Jason Marshall Jr.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: Still need to find out what Storm Duck is.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: So you know, you are likely going to come out with some good players out of that.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: but look forward to see what the rest of it looks like.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: All right, next pick at number 53, I'm getting my guy, Malachi Lawrence out of UCF coach.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is a really, really good pick-up, especially in the second round.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, my God, he's what?
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: Six, four, six, five I want to say.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: 250, 260 pounds can play that buck rule three, four standup guide, four, three edge can hold his own in the run game.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: Has a couple of swim moves, has a couple of chop moves, can also go a little bit inside and play as a five-technic and a three-technic, if you know Jeff Haffley wants to have like a nickel type of formation where he just has speed guys.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: on those third and longs that can actually really get after the quarterback.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm picking Malachi Lawrence up here.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I like that pick.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: I like Malachi Lawrence.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: I have him in a two to three ranges.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: The grade that I have on him, but I, you know, I have my notes like there's enough high stuff.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: I could easily see him getting further up into day two.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that he could be a day one starter.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: He has some of the best flashes of anyone in this draft.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: I do have a little bit of concerns about the motor, right?
- 43:45[SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't always seem like he's playing at full speed.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: Would it like to see him dominate a little more at UCF at that level of competition?
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: Then what he did dominate more consistently.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: He had the dominant reps. And if you're grading the flashes, I would certainly understand why he's there.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: I do like to pick right.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_00]: And if we talk about the trade-down scenario
- 44:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you passed on Zion Young Zion Young got drafted with that pick before, but then you turn around got Malachi Lawrence, and you're able to get the other corner Chris Johnson to go along with that, right, then you know, when you pack exactly all together, it's a nice nice combination.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: All right, now once again the dolphins back to back picks here number 75 number 76, but the dolphins have five third round picks here.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and I don't think I want to trade back here and I have my eye.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_01]: on two to three guys right here coach.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: The first guy I'm seeing right now is healing Rutledge.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: But the guy before who just got picked up was Max Claire out of Ohio State.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I would have picked him.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: up if he was there.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: He could be, you know, a solid receiving block as well gives you another receiving and blocking threat.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: He can line up in line.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: He can be your slot.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: He can also line up all the way to the X very, very multi-dimensional here.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: Remember in our interior offensive line show, we talked a lot about killing Rutledge.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: How he's able to work in outside zone schemes, inside zone schemes, man and gap schemes.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: He's able to play left guard, he's able to play a right guard.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_01]: There is the potential for him to potentially play center as well, just oozing with versatility right here.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then the next guy is Kyle Lewis,
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle Lewis reminds his playstyle reminds him of what's that book and years linebacker back in the day in that Tampa 2 defense.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: I just had it in your books like Derek Brooks and
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, you know, that it's really enticing on the defensive side of the ball to have a partner with Jordan Brooks.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: You have two cornerbacks right there.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: But also, you don't really have anyone in the safekeeper.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm also taking a look at Kamari Ramsey, who's available,
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about his archetype is like a chameleon.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: He can play a nickel.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: He can play the box safety.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: He can play the deep safety as well.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: Again, versatility is the name of the game here, and I think if you really want to better your team, obviously you invest in the offensive line, right?
- 47:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then good.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_00]: I would be pretty angry if you did not get him there because you know I'm a big fan of killing Relage.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: And now I do have a trade option just for Seattle at pick number 96, but I don't think I want to go that far because we still have a lot of good guys here, right?
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: You have wide receiver Antonio Williams, Kyle Lewis, Camari Ramsey, Anthony Hill Jr. Sam Rouge as well.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: But I think we could pick up those guys a little bit later on.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think coach for me right here, you've got to talk about need, okay?
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: We have to talk about need here.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: You have two offensive linemen already.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: Your wide receiver group is a little bit thin, but there are still more wide receivers available in the third, fourth, and fifth round as well.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, John Eric Sullivan's philosophy from Green Bay, you fill it out with third rounders, fourth rounders, fifth rounders, you really build your breath and depth there.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_01]: You don't necessarily need a number one guy.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_01]: Malik Willis didn't have a number one guy, either in Green Bay.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_01]: And he was used to that last year.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: He was also used to that in Tennessee.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Antonio Williams is a number one guy.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_01]: Neither is Azacaraa branch or Dion Brooks, but there are a couple of people later on who I do think can really benefit from Monique Willis and Bobby Slowix offense later on.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I think my pick here will be on the defensive side, and it will be safety Camari Ramsey coach.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I like Camari Ramsey.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_00]: So he was a player that
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: into the future.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like I really haven't looked at any 2021 prospects.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: But Ramsey was a player that at one point I thought was coming out last year.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I did look at him last year.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I really liked him last year.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't like his tape as much this year.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: But he is still a player that I like.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_00]: But then I was listening to Todd McShaze show earlier today.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_00]: And they were also talking about how Ramsey's 2000
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: 24 tape was a lot better than there's 2025 tape.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I do think that player that I really fell in love with before is still there.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: And the experience that he gained in 2025, when you talk about that community, that ability to do different things, he got that experience in college, and he's gonna be a really good player in the NFL.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_01]: So right now, we have...
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: Three defensive backs.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_01]: We picked up Kamari Ramsey, Chris Johnson, Matsura Delane, two offensive linemen, Max Ayin Nacho, and Malachi Lawrence.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: Pick number 87 on the board for the Miami Dolphins.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_01]: We've got Devon Moore, Jalen Farmer, Dalen Everett, Slater, LT overton, Kirin Crawford, Garrett, Nussmire.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I do have two trade-down options.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: One with the Cowboys, one with the Patriots.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: We have another pick at number 90 and another pick at number 94 and again, I don't think this will actually happen in the NFL draft, but this is a mock draft anything can happen right here and some of these guys in this 87 pick range and their ranks right here, especially these top four of slaughter every farmer more, it's just repeated guys that we already have.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: and I can skip those.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm more so targeting a guy like either overton or Kirin Crawford right here as another edge to really build that defense that defensive line.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: Have that rotation that Miami has.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_01]: I know they signed a couple of guys in the edge room, but they need a power guy.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_01]: They need a guy like a LT overton that you know is a phenomenal run defender.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_01]: or a Kirin Crawford who, if Malikai Lawrence and Chopra Robinson are on the other side, he can be that cleanup guy where he was when Keldrick Folk.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_01]: He played alongside him at Auburn.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_01]: So these are the two guys that I'm looking.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I think I'm going to trade down and grab another pick for the fourth or fifth round.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to see if I can get a pick later on because they don't necessarily have one between round, they don't necessarily have anything in the range of 180 to 190.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm hoping this one gets picked up by Dallas.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_01]: And it does.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_01]: And let's see if the bore falls the way it does.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_01]: It does, coach, that's a fine one.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_01]: I know what.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_01]: So now it's, who do we choose?
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: Now, LT overton or Keirin Crawford.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_01]: Both have their pros, both have their cons.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: With overton, he can't be that buck guy.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: He can't be that guy that can drop.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: And he's much heavier on that side.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: But you already have a guy like Lawrence, right?
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: You have a guy like Top Robinson as well.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: And there's another edge defender that the dolphin side in free agency too, Coach, I'm kind of blinking on the name here.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_01]: But you have guys on that edge unit that can drop off in coverage.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: You need a guy that can also help to play the run alongside Jordan Phillips, alongside Kenneth Grant, alongside Zeke Biggers as well.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: And LTO over to him would be my pick right here.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: And we talked about it in our edge podcast as well coach that
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's one of those heavier guys, heavier sets guys that green bay would target like they did in Lucas Venice, like they did in Roshan Gary in previous drafts.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just U.J.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_00]: Robert Beale, those are some of the edges they signed in free agency, you know, I wanted to see what you did there and I had to go on LTO over to him also and LTO over to his not a player that I am overly
- 53:16[SPEAKER_00]: by himself.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: If that was the guy they draft is that solution that I don't like that, but what I do like with the way that you did that is that when we talked about Malachi Lawrence and I put out there that I have some questions about his motor, right?
- 53:33[SPEAKER_00]: This is the way that you keep that motor going, right?
- 53:36[SPEAKER_00]: You doubled down, you get a guy that's drafted a little bit lower, and now Malachi
- 53:41[SPEAKER_00]: can't take plays off right now he's going to have somebody that plays the same position as him right that more of a fourth three-style defensive end that heavy handed set the edge type guy that if Malachi Lawrence comes in and that motor isn't running 100% then LT overton could very well just from a consistent see perspective takes snaps away from him so I I really like it from that perspective that you know when you
- 54:07[SPEAKER_00]: when you double down on a position like that, especially two players that are similar style in a position of need for the dolphins.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think this really gives you an opportunity for one of them at least to really shine just because of, you know, cream rise in the top of the competition.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: And guess what, Jeff Hathley's defense is being made right here.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to shed some salary with Josh UJ and a couple of other veterans and you want these rookies to play, and you know it's a year where you're not going to be necessarily competing for playoffs, get these rookies in, get them their reps next season.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: And then you have experienced young guys in rookie contracts that you can play for the next three, maybe even four years out of here.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right, next up on the list, pick number 92.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna go with the Wad receiveer right here.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_01]: Ted Hurst, coach, the dolphins are due for a Wad receiveer.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Ted Hurst has had a massive, massive rise from the all-star circuit to now in this pre-draft process.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: He's what, six, three, maybe six, four, just under 200 pounds, played out Wisconsin for two, three years in the big 10, played up against some good, big 10 competition, has had, has had some questionable quarterback play out Wisconsin, transferred over to UConn, was there number one guy, beat up, you know, on a lesser known talent, you know, again in the big 10 over there.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_01]: Now, my question to you is, I don't necessarily see him as a starter just yet, but at the peak where I would take him at number 92, do you see it as a valuable investment?
- 56:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this would be where I would see it.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: As you said, like you can't, you can't wait to make this pick and expect this to be your
- 56:15[SPEAKER_00]: the size and the skills of a number one wider sea, right?
- 56:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think I said that in our wider sea or podcast, that had he played at a bigger school the whole way through.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think that he probably be knocking on a round one grade, but for whatever reasons, he transferred around ended up at Georgia State, obviously have the level of competition factor there.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_00]: But when you look at the skills that he brings right, even if he's got to refine his route running,
- 56:44[SPEAKER_00]: whatever, right, you can still bring him in to be a red zone target, to be, you know, a contested catch guy, and he can do that from day one while he learns the nuances of the NFL.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_00]: And if he, you know, puts the effort in, then this is a player that two, three years and now from now can end up being one of the steals of the draft is not forced to do too much too early.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right, last pick in the draft here, Coach.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we've had, we've got a lot of defensive backs.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: We already picked.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to take Bud Clark here, but...
- 57:23[SPEAKER_01]: We've got Delane.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_01]: We've got Johnson.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_01]: We've got Camari Ramsey already.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're getting a bit too greedy in the defensive back room.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_01]: You do have like other safeties here in Miami that can play like AJ green the third Ethan Robinson.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe even storm duck can be a safety same with Isaiah Johnson.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_01]: You have Dante Trader Jr. who played some starting snaps.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_01]: Lonnie Johnson is six, two, but he's 30 years old.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_01]: Who could be, you know, a backup type of safety.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: They have enough in the defensive back room where I feel confident, hey, you could go out with these guys that you have and still be successful, along with the edge room that we've built and the defensive line.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_01]: me right here at number 94, I'm going to go with an offensive weapon.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to give you know, Malik Willis, another offensive weapon that can be utilized in the running back growth.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_01]: And it's going to be Jonah Coleman.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_01]: And here's my reason why.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_01]: We're so used to seeing Devon Hain be utilized as a slot wide receiver and in the running back room.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: You need to be able to spell him where he's not touching the ball 20 25 times a game and he could potentially get injured.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you want to minimize the risk for Devon H and also you have guys like Ali Gordon and Jalen right we've heard that Jalen right was in the dog house with Mike McDaniel we don't know what his relationship is with Bobby Slywick you already have a pal a a a a a a a three down a third down pounder and Ali Gordon
- 59:17[SPEAKER_01]: Jonah Coleman can be your third-down pounder as well.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_01]: Also catch the ball out of the back field.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_01]: And if you don't secure a contract for Devon Hane, that's your number one running back in a year or two years out.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, Jonah Coleman talked around the running back episode.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_00]: He is my number two running back with a big drop off from number one, but similar to what we talked about with the double dipping if the in the edge room
- 59:48[SPEAKER_00]: Right, and Ollie Gordon both have had some flashes, but neither of them have really taken a hold of that number to job, so would have no issues at all bringing in somebody like Jonah Coleman to kind of light a fire there, right, and that's another position that you can't have too many of their running backs are fairly easy to rotate and find ways to get snacks for the guys that earn it and like you said, right, it sounds like there may be a gap.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_00]: in the negotiations with the Vaughan agent so that provides you a bit of a security blanket that you can still fill out that room if you end up having to to move on from him in a year.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_01]: Final three round draft for the Miami Dolphins.
- 1:00:33[SPEAKER_01]: When Sword Elaine Max Ahien Nacho, Chris Johnson, Malachi Lawrence, Kielin Rutledge, Kamiaramsi, LTO
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_01]: three trade downs coach and some extra picks recouped here pff gives me a grade of a and I feel like I got my guys to coach.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, one of the things I definitely like about your draft with the number of picks that you were able to acquire there, you were able to double down at some positions.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing that I've talked about multiple times to
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_00]: to be able to do because I think that any time that you add two young guys into the same room that, you know, at least one of them is going to rise to the occasion, so you definitely feel some holes with this draft.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's pretty much it for this episode.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_01]: Stick with us here on scouting the fans part of the Director of Prairie Postcast.
