- 2:09Speaker 2: I don't remember the date, but we did chat before and I am so looking forward to today.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It was on the phone.
- 2:16Speaker 3: That's how long ago it was.
- 2:18Speaker 3: It was on the phone.
- 2:19Speaker 2: It wasn't even on Zoom, no, and now I I mean we're, we're totally different, right, we're not doing just talking cat and her confidence, we're talking cat and her confidence and how she runs her business.
- 2:33Speaker 2: So I'm gonna, we're gonna, dive into this conversation.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I'm really looking forward to it.
- 2:38Speaker 2: So the first thing I want to know from you so we're talking boss, babe, summer and up leveling.
- 2:45Speaker 2: You know our business and our life.
- 2:48Speaker 2: So the first thing I want to know from you what is your word of the summer and do you have one?
- 2:55Speaker 3: my, it might be a string of words of get my butt in gear and I don't know if it's.
- 3:08Speaker 3: I know it's not just me, but a lot of times we hit that wall and it's like, oh, I don't know which path I need to take, what that next step forward is.
- 3:24Speaker 3: And lately I've been like bold action.
- 3:28Speaker 3: It's like let's just step in, let's take the action, let's just do it, and then, if we stumble, then we'll figure it out.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Right, and that's what we call it Right, yeah, so now it's, it's more.
- 3:43Speaker 3: I guess my word is bold, action and visibility.
- 3:46Speaker 2: That's my, that's my phrase right, like, it's still the summer and now is a time to sort of maybe, you know have fun with all the different ideas that can come up, right, oh, that would be great for the fall.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Oh, I could do that in the spring.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Like, now is a good time to come up with all the the fun and enticing ideas, right?
- 4:21Speaker 2: I mean, they say that, you know, summertime is the time to party and enjoy life.
- 4:26Speaker 2: So you know we need to do that while we're coming up with all these cool ideas.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Now tell me you're in Florida.
- 4:34Speaker 2: No, you're in California, california, right?
- 4:38Speaker 2: So are you close to a beach?
- 4:40Speaker 2: No, no.
- 4:42Speaker 2: So you wouldn't have a beach read unless you go to the beach on your on the weekends.
- 4:48Speaker 3: No, I am going, I am leaving.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I'm leaving the country next week for a little bit and going on a retreat and I think there's some beach in there somewhere.
- 5:01Speaker 3: So that's good.
- 5:04Speaker 3: And to what you said I would say that the fun and the joy and the reflection and all of that isn't just summer.
- 5:16Speaker 3: It's building that in continuously, because if we wait until summer, then by the time we get to summer we're like oh, I just want to now go summer long.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Well, this, this is very true, that's part of that's part of our routine, right.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Rest, rest and reflection has to be in our daily routine, for sure.
- 5:38Speaker 2: But I find that in the summertime nobody wants to sit in the office all day, right, like I noticed yesterday and the day before here in Edmonton.
- 5:48Speaker 2: The weather was just beautiful and I was like looking out my window, when what am I doing in here, right?
- 5:55Speaker 2: And so I packed up my computer and I went and sat.
- 5:58Speaker 2: You know, well, I went to for lunch with a friend and we sat outside.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I didn't open my computer because I'm, you know, socializing, but I had my computer because I thought, just in case I get there a little bit early, right, I can do a little bit, right.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And so I find that's what I do over the summer, like I sort of squeeze in, you know, as much of the fun as I can, because I mean, we still got to work, we still, you know, you can't just stop working, right.
- 6:38Speaker 2: But I find in the summertime it's easier to take a little, you know, an extra hour here and there, right.
- 6:42Speaker 2: And then in the wintertime, when you don't want to be outside as much's, you know, maybe for your business or just for you know?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Recreation, do you have a favorite?
- 6:52Speaker 3: I I have the list of many books, um, that I I would say I I'm probably in the middle of a few books, Because I get intrigued when people are like this book would be really good for you to read right now.
- 7:16Speaker 3: No, don't give me another book, or you know, like you know, we talked about some.
- 7:28Speaker 3: We talked about Jen and you know how real she is, and I have a few of those mentors that are like that from you know.
- 7:38Speaker 3: They come from different spaces, different coaching paths and they're like oh, the book that got me, you know, to take more action is this one.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I'm like, all right, I'll just add it to my list right, I have, I have an extremely long list, but what I started doing, so I listened to audible and when I'm talking with someone and they, you know at the time that they suggest, you know, oh, you got to read this book, I write it down and as soon as my visit with them is over, I go on my phone and I download that that read, because I know if I don't do it right now it's not going to happen.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And now it's on my phone.
- 8:19Speaker 2: That doesn't mean I'm going to read it right away, but it's on my list, right.
- 8:22Speaker 2: So it's like okay, I finished that book, let's what's next.
- 8:24Speaker 2: And then I just pick one.
- 8:26Speaker 2: So eventually I will get to it.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And I joined a book club and this is really strange for me.
- 8:32Speaker 2: So I joined it on Friday, so that was due July 4.
- 8:37Speaker 2: And on July 28, we're having a book club meeting, right, and I have to read this book.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Well, this book is See you at the Top by Zig Zig Ziglar.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Right Now, I don't know if you have read this book, but it's super fine print.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Like I opened it up this morning and I was like, oh no, I won't have this done by the 28th.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Like there's just no way right, with everything else on top.
- 9:00Speaker 2: But I will do the best I can Right, because I'm'm like I don't know how I'm gonna get that.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Like you know, like Mel Robbins books, they're easy reads, right, you could read them in a week, but this one is not that easy.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Anyway, let's talk about Boss Babe Summer.
- 9:18Speaker 2: What does Boss Babe Summer look like for you this year?
- 9:24Speaker 3: I think Boss Babe, summer resonates with my bold action and visibility and, you know, really stepping in and taking risks and really being more bold in who I want to be, love that and shedding the old skins of, or the old identities of.
- 9:56Speaker 3: You know, I sat in corporate.
- 9:59Speaker 3: I used to sit behind a computer.
- 10:01Speaker 3: I used to just do the thing that they said to do, to get it done to you know, make them look good.
- 10:08Speaker 3: And now it's like, wait, we gotta, we gotta.
- 10:11Speaker 3: You know, we gotta do that, for you know my business and we got to get out there and really speak about who I am and you know how I can, you know, really help others on their journeys.
- 10:32Speaker 3: So it's really, you know, it's really that blend of who I am and what I bring to the table and, you know, really leading life in a different way.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I love that, and so now I know that you have many new coaching strategies and tools that you're teaching others and your clients, so are you finding that this is going to be the time for you to?
- 11:02Speaker 2: Sort of put that all together in packages, or have you already done that and now you're promoting the packages?
- 11:11Speaker 3: So yes and no.
- 11:13Speaker 3: So yes and no.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Um, I have.
- 11:19Speaker 3: I have some things that we talk about, you know, stepping in, and then all of a sudden it's like that didn't work so well.
- 11:25Speaker 3: So I have workshops that I have been experimenting with.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Well, my experimentation in some levels didn't quite work as well, and a lot of that was when you are taking different actions and experimenting and I've become more, I guess, more risky.
- 11:50Speaker 3: In my experimentation of business it's like well, let me get out to eventbrite and play in that land, and let me get out here and play in that land and see who I can meet and all of that.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Well, you know some mistakes, you know I had a whole bunch of people sign up for a workshop and it's like, oh yeah, they weren't getting my direct communication.
- 12:11Speaker 3: They were only focused on the Eventbrite communication, which didn't have all the information.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Oh, that's part of the learning right.
- 12:20Speaker 2: I mean that's, yeah, I get that, I get that, and then now you have to learn how to navigate that.
- 12:30Speaker 3: So, yeah, earlier in the summer, you know, last month, I learned that you know I had 30 people sign up for a workshop and only three showed up, because you know there was a communication gap that I didn't know about.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Know, building those relationships and helping you know, really getting to know all these tools that I'm working with and understanding where my flaws and lack of understanding is so I can build that understanding, so, yeah, those are, those are the things that we have to step into and go.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, let me just think about that and let me Because it's not.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, because Grab my brain around it.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not always as easy as it sounds.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Right, you know there's other things involved that you don't consider if you've never done it before.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yeah, wow, that's awesome, that's awesome.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yes.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you learn about yourself and how to use the systems right.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I mean, that's what it's all about, yeah, so how are you using this season of summer and boss babe, to recharge and refocus I think I want to get a tattoo, kidding and I'm using the summer to really look at what's working, really do a deep reflection of what's working, what really speaks to my current clients, and what words or phrases or, you know, even in social media land, what things do I say that create that interest, so I can really, you know, figure out what I want my vision to look like.
- 14:36Speaker 3: It's like really stepping back and pulling back the curtain and going let's see how we can, you know, take this in a way, take this journey or, you know, create this journey that speaks to my heart.
- 14:52Speaker 3: This journey that speaks to my heart isn't, isn't in this have to land, speaks to my heart and allows me to continue my journey of growth and development and passion for who I am and where I want to go, and also, you know, helps me help my clients in bigger, bolder ways, so they can be on their journey and expand on their own path of experimentation and life and reflection.
- 15:28Speaker 2: So, I love that.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Yeah, this whole pulling back the curtain and seeing what's possible.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that and it makes me think like every year is different, right, every year in our own business is different and we can we have the control to expand that or shrink it if we need to Like, if we know it's going to be a heavy year, say in our personal lives.
- 15:53Speaker 2: We have that ability to look at, you know, I mean we know what.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I mean we don't know everything, but you know, sometimes you know stuff is coming up Right and so you can look at that and go, okay.
- 16:03Speaker 2: So this year, you know I need to sort of scale back on the hours I put into my business.
- 16:09Speaker 2: What can I do so that it doesn't affect maybe the income or the like, the revenues and all the things, without my time right, or I got nothing coming right, everything that that was supposed to happen has happened and now I can be in the business a little bit more.
- 16:26Speaker 2: So, yeah, I love that.
- 16:28Speaker 2: I love the whole pull back the curtain concept, right, because then you can look at everything as much as we can know.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Right, because life has the tendency of showing up when we don't expect it.
- 16:39Speaker 2: So I love that.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Now we kind of we kind of talked about mentors earlier and then I just want to know like do you have like a boss babe role model?
- 16:51Speaker 3: Well, I kind of think of Jen as a boss babe role model, because it's like oh, I want to be like her.
- 16:57Speaker 3: And then me too there's, there's a few of them, you know.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Uh, I think you know.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Joey Joey's.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Uh yes, joey Flessner, absolutely, I love her too.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, katarina Rando, there's, you know things?
- 17:14Speaker 3: that are very boss babish.
- 17:16Speaker 3: And then another gal that I am in one of her groups why am I not Amanda Kaufman?
- 17:28Speaker 3: So I don't know if you know her.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I met her when I was in Dallas recently with Elaine Williams and I was doing like a photo shoot and I was getting.
- 17:42Speaker 3: That's another place where I had to get out of my comfort zone.
- 17:45Speaker 3: All right, let's just do it is.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Elaine Williams is like a videographer and you know total videographer and you know total.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Let's, let's get that camera in your face and let's just do it.
- 17:59Speaker 3: And so in three days time we recorded 30 videos.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Talk about out of my comfort zone.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I'm like, and all like in public.
- 18:09Speaker 3: It's like walking through a park.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Let's sit here and let's record a video.
- 18:12Speaker 3: And there's people walking by.
- 18:13Speaker 3: I'm like, all right, what are we talking about now?
- 18:18Speaker 2: what?
- 18:18Speaker 2: But that is, that is like the way to get you out of that comfort zone, just to expand that just a little bit more.
- 18:26Speaker 2: That's great.
- 18:27Speaker 2: I don't have the guts for that.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I think I need her, oh my gosh.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I I love routines.
- 18:34Speaker 2: I love, you know, knowing about routines.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I like creating new routines.
- 18:38Speaker 2: I want to know what your summer morning routine is.
- 18:41Speaker 2: If you could summarize it in three words, what would you say?
- 18:44Speaker 3: Coffee reflection and it's like coffee food coffee reflection.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I love that, I love that, you know.
- 19:19Speaker 2: And it's funny that, like, not all women are quick to admit that, right, most women are like give me coffee, right, and then I do a little bit of exercise, I do a little bit of this, and then food seems to be last on the list.
- 19:31Speaker 2: No one wants to admit it.
- 19:33Speaker 2: But, yeah, you're right.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Right, if you're hungry, you need to eat.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Your body is telling you something.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, I need to eat.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Yeah for sure.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Well, we all do, right, we all do.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Is there a move that you're making for, like, during the summer, to set yourself up for a stronger fall?
- 19:52Speaker 2: Um?
- 19:55Speaker 3: um One for Stronger Fall.
- 19:59Speaker 3: It's really making sure I take time for me.
- 20:03Speaker 3: It's also making sure that I take all the actions.
- 20:09Speaker 3: So I made that bold, scary move of bringing on assistants to help me with some of the things that I don't always take the time to do.
- 20:24Speaker 3: It's like I can do it and I don't always take the time to do.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Like social media.
- 20:30Speaker 3: It's like, you know, if I, if I am, if it's up to me to post everywhere in social media, then I sometimes get busy on the scroll.
- 20:44Speaker 3: It's like, well, let's see what everybody else.
- 20:47Speaker 3: And then when I get into scroll land, it's like I don't get anything done and you're posting might get me yeah, I can relate with that a 100.
- 20:58Speaker 3: So it's really setting myself up by having somebody else handle the stuff that distracts me and doesn't keep me focused on the actions that are really going to help me move forward.
- 21:12Speaker 3: So it's, it's, and that's a whole new path of communication also.
- 21:20Speaker 3: So it's really learning how to communicate with somebody else, what the vision is, what the language is, what the you know the direction and the path of the journey that I'm on right now.
- 21:34Speaker 3: To have them take it and run with it, and then letting go of control and letting them do it.
- 21:43Speaker 3: So, yeah, so it's really, you know, stepping into that.
- 21:49Speaker 3: You know, all right, I can't be 100 in control.
- 21:54Speaker 3: So it's like how can we, you know, let go of that slice and know that they've got it?
- 22:00Speaker 3: That trust, you know, of somebody else taking on that responsibility, so I can focus on, focus on my clients, having those conversations, really being present, because presence is so powerful, and so that's what I'm focused on this summer is like what are those things that I can let go of?
- 22:25Speaker 3: What are those things that don't need my full on attention?
- 22:30Speaker 3: So I can put my attention in the places that make the most sense and build those connections in that path forward that really speaks to me, and so I love others.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I love that, and so tell me, what is one habit that you either have created or are continuing with that keeps that possible for you?
- 22:58Speaker 3: it's really really noting down where.
- 23:05Speaker 3: It's tracking my strengths and weaknesses to determine where I either need to build my strengths or where it's better to let those weaknesses go to somebody else that is stronger in it.
- 23:21Speaker 3: So, like canva not exactly a strength for my, for me and you know, can hit a few frustration buttons like, all right, we gotta let that one go, we gotta let somebody else handle that one it's like that is not the creativity path for me.
- 23:38Speaker 3: There's another creativity path somewhere else, because it's really looking at and I think you know well if you're part of GU, you you know the language of energy.
- 23:51Speaker 3: It's like what are those things that raise my energy?
- 23:54Speaker 3: And one of those things that are like Ooh, that was an energy drain and we need to find another path for that one, because it's not going to work If my energy goes this way and then it goes straight down this way.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Right, yeah, it doesn't.
- 24:09Speaker 3: You can't connect with others if your energy is constantly tanking.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Right, but you also need to be aware of what energy vibe you're holding.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Right, and some of us are not totally in tuned with that and I've noticed that in myself.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Right, that sometimes I'm like I come to a meeting and I don't know where my headspace is.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Right, I'm like.
- 24:29Speaker 2: I don't, I'm just coming because it's on my calendar, right, and so that's something that I've had to like actually like look at and say why are you doing this?
- 24:38Speaker 2: Because being on your calendar is you're being busy, yes, but you're not being productive, Right.
- 24:45Speaker 2: You need to have intentions, Right, and I think that's where you know, I think that's where we need to go Right, Like we need to know what we're doing, why we're doing it Right, and so, yeah, yeah I.
- 24:58Speaker 2: That really resonates with me as well.
- 25:00Speaker 2: So if you were to give, you know, your fellow female entrepreneurs, like some kind of advice or you know pointers for the summer, what would that be?
- 25:23Speaker 3: what you just said.
- 25:23Speaker 3: One thing I started doing with my calendar.
- 25:24Speaker 3: When you know, I am looking at my calendar and I see an appointment on there, if it's a client appointment then those are the ones.
- 25:28Speaker 2: You know what you're doing.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Yeah, those you.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Yeah I know what I know?
- 25:31Speaker 3: Yeah, but if there's a class or a program or something that has landed on my calendar, it's a, it's not, it's not.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Uh, it's not going to kill me to miss it and my energy and my head space are not in the proper space.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Or sometimes, you know, my calendar has two or three things and I'm like all right, which one is actually going to feed me, you know, versus which one is going to deplete me?
- 26:01Speaker 3: Yes, it might have information.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yes, it might not have a recording.
- 26:05Speaker 3: You know it's really looking at and questioning within which one makes the most sense for moving forward or is it just on there because somebody else said, oh yeah, that was the class I wanted and really, you know it's really going inside versus paying more attention to the external forces.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Right yeah, 100%.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I love nation versus external, you know, unknown.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, and having intention right, like having you know the knowledge of this is going to bring me forward, or it's just going to be more knowledge to add to my brain, right, right, yeah, I mean, we can't know what we already know.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Right, there's always room to know more, but is it going to bring me forward?
- 26:56Speaker 2: Is often you know what has to bring you there is often.
- 27:03Speaker 3: You know what has to bring you there.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, like.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Right now I'm doing a training on understanding the power of Facebook groups because I know one of my weaknesses is that building of relationships in social land.
- 27:16Speaker 3: It's, and it's really understanding.
- 27:21Speaker 3: You know that's.
- 27:22Speaker 3: That's one of my my um challenges for myself this summer is how do I build those social connections and understand the building of relationships and not?
- 27:35Speaker 3: You know that, yes, I connected.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Bye now know that.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Yes, I connected by now.
