- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hey, Lucas, last episode we were talking about our mouths and teeth. Lucas: We did. But now let's take a break from body parts and head somewhere more fun. Luna: Ooh, where are we going? Lucas: To the beach. Today we're learning phrases for the beach, all about pwani. Luna: Pwani. I like that. So if I want to say I want to go to the beach, what do I say? Lucas: You say Nataka kwenda pwani. Nataka means I want, kwenda is to go, and pwani is beach. Luna: Nataka kwenda pwani. Lucas: Exactly. Now imagine you're in a new town and you're looking for the beach. You'd ask Pwani iko wapi? Luna: Pwani iko wapi? Where is the beach? Lucas: Perfect. And when you finally see it, you might say Pwani ni nzuri. The beach is beautiful. Luna: Pwani ni nzuri. That's a good one. I can already picture the white sand. Lucas: And to say you're enjoying the beach, you say Nafurahia pwani. Nafurahia means I enjoy or I'm enjoying. Luna: Nafurahia pwani. I'm enjoying the beach. Lucas: You've got it. And as you leave, you might tell your friend Tutaonana pwani. See you at the beach. Luna: Tutaonana pwani. That's a nice way to end a beach day. Lucas: Before we practice more, you know what? If you're enjoying learning Swahili with us, and Fexingo has been helping you make progress, think about supporting the show. Luna: Yeah, it keeps us ad-free and helps us keep making these episodes. Lucas: If you'd like to support, you can visit buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Every little bit means a lot, but no pressure. Now back to the beach. Lucas: Right. So let's put these together. Imagine you're at a party and someone asks what you want to do. Luna: I'd say Nataka kwenda pwani. Lucas: And they might ask where it is. You don't know, so you ask them Pwani iko wapi? Luna: Pwani iko wapi? And they say it's over there, and I see it and say Pwani ni nzuri. Lucas: Then you're having a great time, and you tell your friend Nafurahia pwani. Luna: Nafurahia pwani. And as the sun sets, I say Tutaonana pwani. Lucas: Beautiful. Let's do a quick review. Repeat after me. Nataka kwenda pwani. Luna: Nataka kwenda pwani. Lucas: Pwani iko wapi? Luna: Pwani iko wapi? Lucas: Pwani ni nzuri. Luna: Pwani ni nzuri. Lucas: Nafurahia pwani. Luna: Nafurahia pwani. Lucas: Tutaonana pwani. Luna: Tutaonana pwani. Lucas: And one more time, in a sentence. Nataka kwenda pwani kesho. I want to go to the beach tomorrow. Luna: Nataka kwenda pwani kesho. Lucas: See how easy that is. You just add kesho for tomorrow. Luna: That's a useful trick. So I could also say Pwani iko wapi? and then add kesho to ask where the beach is tomorrow? Lucas: You could, but it's more natural to just say the full sentence like we did. Remember, keep it simple. Luna: Got it. This has been such a relaxing topic, I feel like I'm already on vacation. Lucas: That's the spirit. Before we go, let's hear all five phrases one more time. Luna: Okay, here I go. Nataka kwenda pwani. Lucas: Pwani iko wapi? Luna: Pwani ni nzuri. Lucas: Nafurahia pwani. Luna: Tutaonana pwani. Lucas: Perfect. You're ready for your next beach trip. Luna: Asante, Lucas. And thanks to all our listeners. Remember to practice these phrases, and we'll see you next time. Lucas: Kwaheri for now.
