- 0:00What's up everyone, it's friendly.
- 0:03Happy Saturday. Welcome to another episode on
- 0:07the podcast, y'all. I am not gonna lie, I feel like
- 0:11this is a very, very important episode and I'm realizing that I
- 0:18don't think the enemy wants me to share this because there have
- 0:21been several distractions, umm, one being my dog, like coming
- 0:26and barking and just keeping me from recording this.
- 0:31And so this is my take 3. So I just really want us to
- 0:36listen in and not miss what the Lord is trying to teach us this
- 0:42morning. We are going to be continuing in
- 0:45Matthew chapter 24 and this is the final part of breaking this
- 0:50chapter up into the three episodes.
- 0:53There has been so much speculation and curiosity as we
- 0:56see among the disciples surrounding Jesus's return.
- 1:00And of course, we have that today as we inch closer to his
- 1:06return. But Jesus himself is bringing us
- 1:09back to the bottom line. We don't know when He's coming
- 1:13back, and we're not supposed to. So with that, let's go ahead and
- 1:17dive into verses 36 through 51. I'm going to skip a few verses
- 1:23in the middle just to save some time 'cause I have a lot here
- 1:27that I want to say, but I'm going to give y'all the meat and
- 1:32the good chunk of it concerning that day, an exact hour.
- 1:37No one knows when it will arrive, not even the angels of
- 1:41heaven. Only the Father knows, for it
- 1:44will be like it was in the days of Noah when the Son of Man
- 1:48appears. Before the flood, people lived
- 1:51their lives eating, drinking, marrying, and having children.
- 1:56They didn't realize the end was near until Noah entered the ark
- 2:00and then suddenly the flood came and took them all away in
- 2:03judgment. It will happen the same way when
- 2:07the Son of Man appears. OK, skipping a few verses, but
- 2:11realize this. If a homeowner had known what
- 2:15time of night the burglar would come to rob his house, he would
- 2:18have been alert and ready and not let his house be robbed.
- 2:23So always be ready, alert and prepared because at an hour when
- 2:28you're not expecting him, the Son of Man will come.
- 2:33What would qualify A servant to manage his master's house?
- 2:37He would be a wise servant who is both faithful and dependable.
- 2:41The master would Commission him to oversee others, for he would
- 2:45lead them well and give them food at the right time.
- 2:48What joy and blessing will come to that faithful servant when
- 2:53the master comes home to find him serving with excellence, I
- 2:57can promise you the master will raise him up and put him in
- 3:01charge of all that he owns. But the evil servant says in his
- 3:05heart, My master delays his coming, and who knows when he
- 3:09will return? And because of the delay, the
- 3:12servant mistreats those in his master's household.
- 3:15Instead of caring for the ones he was appointed to serve, he
- 3:19abuses the other servants and begins to party with drunkards.
- 3:24Let me tell you what will happen to him.
- 3:27His master will suddenly return unexpectedly, and he will remove
- 3:31the abusive, selfish servant from his position of trust, and
- 3:36the master will cut him in two and assign him to the place of
- 3:40great sorrow and anguish along with all the other hypocrites.
- 3:45Another translation says where there will be weeping and
- 3:48gnashing of teeth. So bam, that ends abruptly and
- 3:54harshly. But what stands out immediately
- 3:58to me is how normal life looks before Jesus returns.
- 4:04We see in this passage he's talking about the days of Noah.
- 4:07There was eating and drinking, hosting.
- 4:10There were weddings and celebrations, just ordinary
- 4:14routines. Now, nothing about those things
- 4:17were necessarily simple. But the danger is being so
- 4:21absorbed in everyday life that we become spiritually asleep.
- 4:26And Jesus makes it clear nobody knows the day or the hour, only
- 4:31the Father. But that's intentional, because
- 4:35think about it, if we knew the exact time that Jesus was
- 4:39returning, how tempting would it be to continue in sin until the
- 4:44last minute? Or to slow down spiritually and
- 4:47then scramble at the end? So it looks like we were
- 4:50faithful. Instead, God is calling us to a
- 4:54life of consistent readiness. Yes, we are told to store up
- 4:59treasures in heaven. Matthew 619.
- 5:01We are not to find our worth in our work or worldly pleasures.
- 5:06But remember that heaven is not just the end goal.
- 5:11Because y'all as long as we have breath in our lungs and a
- 5:15beating heart. God woke you up this morning for
- 5:19a reason. And your physical body.
- 5:22It's on this earth to glorify God through the work that He has
- 5:25given you. So you don't just do the bare
- 5:28minimum. You don't have to follow Jesus.
- 5:30You get to follow Jesus. We know works do not save us.
- 5:36We are saved by grace through faith.
- 5:39Ephesians 28 But our works are evidence and proof of that
- 5:44genuine faith. They're fruit if you truly want
- 5:49to honor your master, like the faithful servant in this
- 5:52passage, if you really do want to honor God, you work
- 5:56diligently with integrity, with perseverance.
- 6:00You don't stop when it gets hard or when you don't feel like
- 6:04doing it because you want to please Him and you want to be
- 6:08trusted with more. Y'all, our work is a reflection
- 6:13of how we actually view Jesus. I like to think about it in this
- 6:18scenario. OK, so for Christmas if I'm
- 6:21getting my mom or my dad a Christmas gift, I don't rush
- 6:25that or put no thought into it. I plan for it.
- 6:29I'm intentional because I care that they like the gift.
- 6:35They they actually want it. And our life is our gift unto
- 6:40the Lord. How you steward your time, your
- 6:44relationships and friendships, opportunities that the Lord
- 6:47gives you, and ultimately his breath in your lungs.
- 6:52And this doesn't stop with believers.
- 6:55We're not just to serve the church.
- 6:57We're called to love and care for those outside the faith too.
- 7:00All of his creation matters. Jesus says Matthew 516, let your
- 7:06light shine before others that they may see your good works and
- 7:10glorify your Father in heaven. So our reminder to stay
- 7:16spiritually alert is so significant too.
- 7:20Jesus uses the example of a robber, and that's not just
- 7:24symbolic because guys, we have an active robber in our lives
- 7:28today, our enemy Satan. He prowls around you.
- 7:34He studies your habits. That's what prowling is
- 7:37referring to. He's looking at your routines,
- 7:40your weak spots, and he is waiting for you to relax, to get
- 7:44careless and to lower your guard so that he can attack.
- 7:48So I just want to stop and ask ourselves, are we bolting the
- 7:53door shut? Are we setting our alarms
- 7:56spiritually? And if the enemy tried to get
- 8:00in, would you notice? Would your alarm go off?
- 8:06My family, we set our house alarm every night before bed.
- 8:09And we're not just assuming danger, we're preparing for it
- 8:14because it says in Scripture we will face temptation and walking
- 8:19daily by the Holy Spirit's leading.
- 8:22It makes you more sensitive and it makes you more aware.
- 8:26But the enemy, he's always working against God.
- 8:29He wants the opposite. He wants distraction and
- 8:33numbness and compromise. So the urgency here, the final
- 8:39call that Jesus is giving us, his return, his second coming,
- 8:44it's going to be sudden and it's going to be swift.
- 8:46He doesn't say he might come when you don't expect him, He
- 8:49says that he will. So don't wait until the last
- 8:53minute. Don't bet on last minute
- 8:56repentance. The delay of Jesus return.
- 9:01It's not permission to procrastinate.
- 9:04It's actually God's great overwhelming mercy.
- 9:08Scripture tells us second, second Peter 39 that the Lord is
- 9:13patient, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to
- 9:17repentance and y'all we're without excuse like I we cannot
- 9:23sugarcoat the truth anymore. This is too serious to sugarcoat
- 9:27it's life or death for eternity. We have been given God's Word,
- 9:33the Spirit of truth, access to wisdom, and God even tells us.
- 9:39James 15. James says if you ask for
- 9:43wisdom, God will give it to you generously.
- 9:46He freely offers more. So here's the part that hit me
- 9:51personally, and maybe it'll hit you too.
- 9:54Scripture never says to start following God when life gets
- 9:59less busy. It doesn't say to wait until
- 10:02after college when you get your fun years out of the way first
- 10:06or when you have more time and you're not running around with
- 10:10little kids. Obedience is not scheduled for a
- 10:14more convenient season. So I just want us to ask
- 10:18ourselves honestly, if Jesus came back right now, would he
- 10:22find you faithfully, consistently, and diligently
- 10:26doing what He has assigned you to do?
- 10:29And this is not just in public for others to see.
- 10:33It's not only in a morning devotional when you wake up, but
- 10:38all throughout the day at 3:00 PM, in the afternoon at 9:00 PM,
- 10:42when you're alone in what you're watching and what you're
- 10:45listening to and allowing to shape you, the people you're
- 10:49letting speak into your life. And here's just some final
- 10:55reflection questions to ask the Lord to minister to your heart
- 10:59and reveal things to you too. Number one, am I living with
- 11:03daily readiness or spiritual procrastination?
- 11:08Two, does my work reflect a heart that truly honors Jesus?
- 11:14And three, are there areas where I'm delaying obedience instead
- 11:18of responding right now? So let's go ahead and move into
- 11:22prayer really quick. Dear Jesus, we don't want to
- 11:30procrastinate. We do not want to delay
- 11:34obedience or avoid the calling that you've placed on our lives.
- 11:39Would you forgive us for waiting for convenience or less busyness
- 11:46or more comfort before fully going all in for you and
- 11:50following you? Teach us to live ready, Jesus,
- 11:56not out of fear, but out of love.
- 12:00Would you help us to steward our time and our work day-to-day,
- 12:06our relationships, opportunities with faithfulness and with
- 12:10integrity? Like the faithful, dependable
- 12:13servant in the passage, strengthen us by your Spirit to
- 12:18stay alert and diligent until you return.
- 12:21Jesus, we want you to find us ready, waiting for you, pure and
- 12:29holy as your children. God, we ask this all in your
- 12:33name, Jesus. Amen.
- 12:36OK, well I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your weekend.
- 12:39This one was just such a great reminder for me and I hope it
- 12:43was for y'all too. And I will see you on the next
- 12:47episode.
