- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, Luna is here with me. Luna: Hey everyone. And Lucas, I'm so ready for summer. All this talk about spring weather last time got me thinking. Lucas: Oh, good call. So today we are talking about summer weather. Sun, heat, perfect beach days. Luna: Yes. I need some beach vocabulary. Where do we start? Lucas: Let's begin with the most important phrase for summer. Hace calor. Luna: Hace calor. That sounds like 'hace' and 'calor'. Lucas: Exactly. Hace calor means 'it's hot'. Say it with me. Hace calor. Luna: Hace calor. Lucas: Perfect. Now, what do you say when it's not so hot? Hace fresco. Luna: Hace fresco. So 'hace' plus 'fresco' means it's cool, right? Lucas: Right. Hace fresco. It's a nice breeze. Hace fresco. Luna: Hace fresco. Lucas: Good. So we have hace calor and hace fresco. Two ways to describe temperature. Luna: And how do I ask someone what the weather is like? Like, is it hot or cool out? Lucas: Great question. You ask, ¿qué tiempo hace? Luna: ¿Qué tiempo hace? Let me try. ¿Qué tiempo hace? Lucas: That's it. You can say, ¿qué tiempo hace? And someone might answer, hace calor or hace fresco. Luna: So it's like asking about the weather. Hey, if it's sunny, do we need a word for sun? Lucas: We do. The word is el sol. El sol. Luna: El sol. Like the sun in the sky. El sol. Lucas: Exactly. And a common phrase is 'hace sol', which means 'it's sunny'. Luna: Hace sol. So we can say, hoy hace sol. Lucas: Perfect example. Hoy hace sol. Today it's sunny. Luna: I love this. So when it's sunny and hot, I can say, hace sol y hace calor. Lucas: That's exactly right. And that brings me to one more phrase. When you want to say you're going to the beach, you say, voy a la playa. Luna: Voy a la playa. I'm going to the beach. Voy a la playa. Lucas: Good. So let's put it together. If it's sunny and hot, you might say, hace sol y hace calor. Voy a la playa. Luna: Hace sol y hace calor. Voy a la playa. That sounds so summery. Lucas: It does. And before we keep going, I want to mention something quickly. Lucas: Muy bien. You used hace calor, hace sol, and voy a la playa in one sentence. Luna: Yes. And if it's cooler, I could say, hace fresco. Maybe I'll stay home. Lucas: Exactly. Hace fresco. Now let's do a quick review. Repeat after me. Hace calor. Luna: Hace calor. Lucas: Hace fresco. Luna: Hace fresco. Lucas: ¿Qué tiempo hace? Luna: ¿Qué tiempo hace? Lucas: El sol. Luna: El sol. Lucas: Voy a la playa. Luna: Voy a la playa. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's try one more scenario. You call a friend and ask about the weather there. What do you say? Luna: ¿Qué tiempo hace? Lucas: And your friend says, hace calor y hace sol. What do you reply? Luna: Voy a la playa. Lucas: There you go. You're ready for a summer conversation. Great job today, Luna. Luna: Thanks, Lucas.
