- 1:55Welcome to the Mac and Jack Show with Jack and Sonya.
- 1:57Happy Monday to everybody out here.
- 1:59First Monday of June. We are now in our summer months
- 2:03here, Jack. And this is where we get a
- 2:05little bit of a sports law, but we got some baseball and some
- 2:08basketball to keep us going here.
- 2:10Yesterday's games raged theirs. I know Yankees had a big series
- 2:16this weekend with the Dodgers. Yeah, well, yeah, but the.
- 2:20Sports come around the clock. I mean, we could talk golf, but
- 2:24I'm not the biggest golf fan. Race car driving or WNBA, you
- 2:30know, it's not, it's on the map. WNBA was never on the map until,
- 2:34you know, the last year too. And, and all due respect to the
- 2:37other great players they had in the league, it didn't translate
- 2:41into ratings. But I guess with this Caitlin
- 2:44clock, you know, coming on the scene, you know, where Angel
- 2:47Reese's name is prominent, etcetera, etcetera, you know,
- 2:51they're getting a little bit of a buzz there.
- 2:54But I, I, you know, for every show, we like to talk you and I,
- 2:57Sonia, what's the biggest storyline?
- 3:00And they're 365 days out of the year, and on some particular
- 3:06days, there's not a major storyline, per SE.
- 3:11Now, we know the Indiana Pacers are going to be playing the
- 3:13Oklahoma City fund and the playoffs, but we've been.
- 3:17Talking NBANBANBA, we'd like to talk that with NBA to the point
- 3:22we. I'm not saying we need a.
- 3:23Day off. Obviously there's a lot going on
- 3:26in the NBA. Not.
- 3:27Just with the finals, but with potential.
- 3:30Offseason moves as. Well.
- 3:33So you never get tired of it. The same with the NFL.
- 3:36You can only talk about the Aaron Rodgers drama with
- 3:39Pittsburgh. For so long, but then there's
- 3:42baseball that you know, it wasn't as prominent, but now you
- 3:46know baseball. 'S getting a little more the
- 3:49center stage, especially when you have to type a marquee
- 3:52matchup you had this weekend, the Yankees and the Dodgers.
- 3:56Now if I said to you of all the sports, this is interesting,
- 4:01what is the most major mash up impact for wise historically?
- 4:08I think it would be debatable between the Celtics and Lakers
- 4:12and the Yankees and Dodgers. Debatable because of the history
- 4:17that the two have with one another and the Dodgers and the
- 4:20Brooklyn Dodgers moving to Los Angeles that, you know, a little
- 4:25bit of a buzz. But the Yankees played the
- 4:27Dodgers three games over the weekend, a rematch of the World
- 4:32Series. Dodgers are prohibitive
- 4:34favorites to get back to the World Series this year.
- 4:38The Yankees are, you know, one of the teams that it's thought
- 4:43up to have a reasonable chance of getting back to the World
- 4:47Series, even though it's going to be maybe a little harder for
- 4:50them than the Dodgers, maybe because the Dodgers are
- 4:53considered to be stacked and the World Series favorites.
- 4:57But they play the three-game series, which I thought was a
- 5:00little more important to the Yankees going in because they
- 5:02lost to the Dodgers in five games in the World Series.
- 5:07And people forget how easily it could have been 32 Yankees.
- 5:13After no one. No one.
- 5:15Brings it up game one of the World Series last year.
- 5:18The Yankees are one out away from winning the game, and they
- 5:21give up the Freddie Freeman home run if they get.
- 5:25Freeman out, the Yankees up, won nothing and then in game. 5
- 5:29which is the final game of the series.
- 5:32They they're up five nothing. They make 3 mistakes if Aaron
- 5:39judge. Drops, you know, an easy fly
- 5:42ball which shall. Net might never do in his career
- 5:45again that that's an absolute fluke.
- 5:48Aaron Judge driving the boat so. Yeah.
- 5:51And then there was Garrett Cole wouldn't cover first base, he
- 5:55had a mental lapse and Anthony Volquez throw was a little off
- 5:59the third base so he got an error there if.
- 6:03Just one of those three things didn't happen.
- 6:06The Yankees don't go give up any runs that inning instead of
- 6:09giving up five runs and they win the game.
- 6:12And that means the Yankees. Could have easily gone back to
- 6:15Los Angeles, up 3, two. So the narrative is, Sonia, the
- 6:19Dodgers are so much better, but they play the rematch.
- 6:23You know, we're kind of in LA and even though it's not the
- 6:26same as the World Series, it didn't go, you know, the way the
- 6:31Yankees wanted to free. You know, Max Free gets hit hard
- 6:36in the first game of, you know, the series.
- 6:38And he's been having a sensational year till then.
- 6:43Bad game. And then Saturday nights at
- 6:45Fiasco. The Dodgers, that was.
- 6:47Horrible. And that.
- 6:49But the Yankees come back. They showed they were resilient.
- 6:53They won the third game, you know, 73 yesterday.
- 6:56DJ Lemayo gets four hits. Isn't it the round if the
- 7:00Yankees get slaughtered 18 to 2 and only two runs to Judge
- 7:03homers and then the game they win?
- 7:06Judge, you know, doesn't get on base?
- 7:08Yeah, that that was that was a slaughter.
- 7:11That was a slaughter. Let's talk about Jack Kegelione
- 7:14going to be coming up to the major leagues here for the
- 7:17Royals. He's going to be activated on
- 7:19Tuesday. That's big news because I think
- 7:21he's coming from like the farmland, right, Jack?
- 7:24Yeah, you know a lot of these teams.
- 7:25They have. They're like blue chip
- 7:27prospects. And it's a.
- 7:29Question of when they're going to bring them up.
- 7:31They kind of want the timing to be right.
- 7:34They don't want to panic. They kind of baby them along,
- 7:37move them along and then they bring them up at the right time
- 7:40because you know, once you bring up these type of players, you
- 7:43don't want to send them down later on.
- 7:45You know. You kind of want it to be for
- 7:47good. And there's also another element
- 7:50involved too. So you just service time.
- 7:53That's a big element because if they leave, if they have their
- 7:58prospects on the big team at the beginning of the year, that
- 8:03means they have credited time in the big leagues, meaning they
- 8:07can become a free agent a year sooner.
- 8:09One year sooner to the team by holding off, bringing them up a
- 8:14little later, you know, in the spring or early summer can hold
- 8:19on to that player for an extra year.
- 8:21It's one year more of control. OK.
- 8:24And good morning to Rochelle. Good morning to Miss Linda.
- 8:27Of course. Happy birth.
- 8:29Listen, I already texted her. Happy birthday, Linda.
- 8:34And happy and good morning to Brian as well.
- 8:39Yeah, happy birthday, Miss Linda.
- 8:41Big hugs to you on this June 2nd.
- 8:46Yeah, literally the name. Says Brian Happy goes by three
- 8:49names. He goes by a definitely no.
- 8:54Repeat one of them. No, repeat one of them.
- 8:58He goes by Beast Thriller. Oh, OK, I thought.
- 9:02Well, the day goes by, Brian. Yes, and Miss Linda, I want to
- 9:06thank you for your text that she wish me blessings on my new job
- 9:11today. I'm starting a job as I'm in
- 9:13between classes here. Super blessed about that.
- 9:16I'll be jumping on that after Jack and I are done.
- 9:19So thank you for your text, Miss Linda.
- 9:20That's amazing that she literally already text me.
- 9:25Yeah. So, yeah, I mean that that's
- 9:28really big. And I didn't realize, does
- 9:30baseball actually have a time a timing like how some like you
- 9:35only have a certain amount of time to play like red shirt and
- 9:38stuff like that? No, no, they.
- 9:40Can do it. Some teams don't do it.
- 9:42Some teams have a player who's phenomenal, you know, in spring
- 9:47training and by then not putting him on the big team in the
- 9:52beginning of the year. It's.
- 9:54Obvious what they're doing because they want more team
- 9:57control. Other team like decide, you
- 10:00know, we're not going to do that because everyone knows that
- 10:03we're playing kind of playing games doing this.
- 10:05But there's nothing wrong with the team doing it.
- 10:08Those are the rules. They want to have extra control
- 10:10of the players. But it's hard when you have.
- 10:13A player who's ready for the big leagues finally and right and
- 10:17he's and you're counting on them to be part of the future, your
- 10:21team and you're not bringing him up in the beginning of the year.
- 10:25You have to tell him he's in the minor leagues for a few more
- 10:28weeks. I mean, he doesn't belong in the
- 10:30minors and you know it. It depends on the case, of
- 10:33course. Some guys could go out of the
- 10:35way, but sometimes they have an exceptional prospect, you know
- 10:39who belongs in the big leagues, but they keep them down in the
- 10:42minors, you know, a month or two more.
- 10:45Yeah, that's, that's that's how it usually runs.
- 10:48I mean, I guess I always wondered because you don't with
- 10:51baseball, they're using their arms the whole time.
- 10:54You got to worry about, you know, I don't know,
- 10:57misalignment. That's just seems a lot,
- 10:59especially if you're a pitcher. If you're a pitcher, that's a
- 11:01lot. Yeah, I mean, Tim's going to be
- 11:04making a lot of moves to take a team like the Saint Louis
- 11:07Cardinal. A lot of people thought they
- 11:09were going to be sellers this year, but they only them second
- 11:13place. They're four games out, so
- 11:15certain teams are kind of caught in the middle between wanting to
- 11:20sell a stay, you know, whether they think they could contend or
- 11:23not. And, you know, and other teams
- 11:27you just don't understand, like the Colorado Rockies.
- 11:30I mean, they don't tend to always trade players often, but
- 11:35they're awful, you know, Year after year it seems.
- 11:38Yeah, that's true. All right, let's get into.
- 11:40Thanks for that historical lesson there, Jack.
- 11:43You always have a great night with the background on.
- 11:46All right, so NBA Finals, let's talk about those.
- 11:53Of course, they are now set the finals.
- 11:55Oklahoma City Thunder is going to face the Pacers.
- 11:57They're getting a little bit of a break right now, Jack, so
- 12:00they're going to be playing their first game later on this
- 12:02week, June 5th in OK C to start off and they're actually
- 12:06favorite to win. Of course, the Pacers eliminated
- 12:09the knee. What would have been?
- 12:11Actually favorite. To.
- 12:12Win. Yeah, the Thunder are favorite
- 12:14to win it all, actually. They should be favorite to win.
- 12:17They're the better team. I mean if I.
- 12:20Know. Not going to be the Pacers are
- 12:23not going to be a serious. Match for the Thunder if the.
- 12:28Pacers can take the six. Games they would have they would
- 12:33have done well, OK, if they lose in six games, I mean, that's
- 12:37about the Max that I'm going to give them.
- 12:41I mean the Thunder just. Better, I mean, if you want to
- 12:44compare, you know, the star players.
- 12:47On the. Team, I mean SGA is clearly.
- 12:50Better than Halliburton. I mean, it's not close.
- 12:53No disrespect. To.
- 12:54Halliburton. Who's there?
- 12:55Who proved? Himself, you know before, even
- 12:59before the next. Series.
- 13:00He was a heck of a player and he was very, you know it.
- 13:04And and it has moments of brilliance in the next series,
- 13:08you know, but you know. It's done that, just a better
- 13:11team. I mean, they are, but this is
- 13:15this is what's really interesting to me, Jack.
- 13:17Either winner is going to be the first time winning.
- 13:20That's what's super exciting and the this is the Pacers first
- 13:23time even making it to the playoffs since 2000 and so dull.
- 13:30Sonia. Huh.
- 13:32Stupid exciting. It's super dull super.
- 13:34Dull. Yeah, I wanted.
- 13:36It's like we have to have. The first time NBA champions?
- 13:40Yeah, we have to. We have no choice in the matter.
- 13:43If the Knicks were playing the Thunder, at least the drama
- 13:47would be the Thunders trying to get their first NBA title ever.
- 13:50The Knicks are trying to get their first one since forever.
- 13:541973 was the. Last time, I mean, or if the
- 13:58Pacers were play, it wouldn't have been the same way if the
- 14:01Pacers played the. Timberwolves.
- 14:03The Timberwolves. They haven't even gotten to
- 14:05final. September wolves you know
- 14:07before. Yeah.
- 14:08Period. I mean Canada has to be happy.
- 14:11Four players from with Canadian roots are in the playoffs, 2
- 14:16from each team. Of course you mentioned SGA,
- 14:19Shay, Gillis, Alexander for the Thunder, Dort for the Alex for
- 14:23the Thunder. Or is also from Canada And from
- 14:26the Pacers you got Nathan and Nemhart, also Canadian, you
- 14:32know, residents, all that good stuff.
- 14:36That, that is, that's a good question, you know, to bring up.
- 14:40And I'd like, you know, I, you know, I, I, I, I don't think
- 14:44we've asked Priscilla. That's when Matthew Stafford
- 14:46played for the Rams. The fans in Detroit supposedly
- 14:50were rooting for him. I'd like to get his reaction on
- 14:53this. And you kind of wonder, but he's
- 14:56playing for the Rams now. I know he.
- 14:58Played for the. Lions for years and you can be
- 15:00happy for him. Fine, you know, winning the
- 15:03Super Bowl because it was a long time lying it.
- 15:06Should be happy fun, but to get to the.
- 15:08Point to root fun. Wouldn't you rather be, you
- 15:12know, if you have a fan in Canada and Toronto, wouldn't you
- 15:16rather win with American players for your team than and even guys
- 15:21were born in Toronto for. I've said that I had to sip on
- 15:28that one. I've said that, but I don't
- 15:31know, I think this is what I think, Jack people that live in
- 15:36those areas like Detroit, all those Canadian border type
- 15:41locations, Michigan I should say, even maybe even Illinois a
- 15:46little bit as well as even. I mean, what is it all those
- 15:51states that border up there, Rhode Island and all that, I
- 15:55feel like they have like a different standard with that
- 15:59with the Canadian players than most people are.
- 16:01Because like for me, I'm in the South.
- 16:03I 100% I'm like, OK, let's get it done with our players.
- 16:07I don't know why we have to bring in all this talent from
- 16:10everywhere else to get it done, but it happens.
- 16:14And so as I like to say, the Northeasterners or the, you
- 16:18know, those people that border the the Canadian border, they
- 16:21look at it differently because they just merge everybody as one
- 16:24big group of people. Yeah, and you mentioned bringing
- 16:28in players. Now you kind of want the
- 16:30philosophies of teams that they always feel they have to make a
- 16:34move. Every team that doesn't win a
- 16:36championship or most teams, unless you're an up and coming
- 16:40team, always feels they can't stand pat.
- 16:44Well, we didn't win the championship.
- 16:45We have to do something. And they make moves that, you
- 16:50know, very rarely help. Like I'm thinking of the next
- 16:54example, OK, they lose to the Pacers, but they run it back
- 16:59with the players they have and see can they win the
- 17:02championship next year? And my feeling would.
- 17:05Be Yeah, you do that. But let's say the Knicks
- 17:08decided. They wanted to get Giannis.
- 17:10OK, let me, you know, think of a deal for Giannis, for example,
- 17:18for the Knicks to get them what it would mean they would be
- 17:21giving up hot Mitchell, Robinson, Mckell.
- 17:30Let's say they gave up Mckell Bridges, Josh Hart and Mitchell
- 17:33Robinson and two number ones and they got Yanis.
- 17:39It sounds like it's something. That's a lot.
- 17:41Milwaukee, right It's. A.
- 17:44They get a. Superstar in Yanis.
- 17:47How does he work with Jalen Brunson?
- 17:50I mean, and, and the rest of the team and how does you know, you
- 17:53have Karl Anthony Towns, you have your big three and everyone
- 17:58is excited. It's off the rails.
- 18:00You know a deal like that. But that's that's why I'm not
- 18:05big on getting rid of all your all these people for one player.
- 18:10I'm not a fan of that in any sport, Jack, because yeah,
- 18:14anytime you no, no, you're good. Anytime you start moving around
- 18:18a lot of people, even if they're not your top players, those
- 18:23people are still responsible for the top plays of the team.
- 18:27And so when you're moving around these like you got to think
- 18:30about it, no team is going to be willing to take, I don't care
- 18:34how many people you could offer the whole team if you want, if
- 18:36they're no good, no team is going to want to trade for them.
- 18:39But if you're trading these people, they've got to bring
- 18:42something to the table besides an appetite.
- 18:44And so if you look at it like that, they if they move around
- 18:48too many people just for Giannis, then their team has
- 18:52changed. And, and at the at the least,
- 18:54you're bringing in just Giannis himself.
- 18:57And now you're back to to square one, trying to build around him
- 19:00with just a new team. Yeah, yeah, but but.
- 19:02The mindset of people is this I I propose that deal just now and
- 19:09from Milwaukee's viewpoint, no more Giannis, but you know,
- 19:12Mikkel Bridges, Mitchell Robinson, Josh Hart, a couple of
- 19:16number ones. You know it it definitely perks
- 19:20the interests. Would they make that deal?
- 19:23I'm not. I'm not sure.
- 19:24But with the. Next, let's say the next made
- 19:27that deal. People be looking.
- 19:29Well, we match, you know, Giannis with Hanson.
- 19:34Karl Anthony Towns on the Nobby. You know, and all of a sudden
- 19:38it's exciting, you know, that we have this impact, we have this
- 19:42powerhouse team, but we see it doesn't really work in the NBA
- 19:47if just 'cause you put match a star on top of stars.
- 19:53You know, even even when LeBron went to the Miami Heat, I mean,
- 19:57they were saying the Heat is automatically going to win the
- 20:00championship every year. The four years LeBron was.
- 20:03There, they did win two NBA titles.
- 20:06It could have easily been one, but and they went to the Finals
- 20:10for years, but everyone figured with him, Dwyane Wade, Chris
- 20:14Bosh, they're unbeatable. But you know it didn't.
- 20:17Quite turn out, you know, fully that way.
- 20:20I mean, I definitely agree that and that's the reason why I
- 20:25don't, I don't necessarily match up Giannis with only like the
- 20:29the Knicks or only, you know, playoff teams that we just saw.
- 20:33He could go somewhere like the Spurs.
- 20:36They have a draft asset that they'd be able to to move around
- 20:40and pay him and get him the contract he needs.
- 20:43I mean, especially if you pair him with with Winby Yama, if you
- 20:47prepare him with Winby Jack. Like that, That's nice what
- 20:53you're saying, Sonia, and it's correct what you're saying, but
- 20:58you have to acquire Giannis. The only way you acquire
- 21:02Giannis, I'm not sure. San Antonio goes number two
- 21:05overall. In the draft.
- 21:07They have to give up that pick and what are they going to do
- 21:11give up five number one draft picks?
- 21:13Besides that, I, you know, I don't know is Giannis obtainable
- 21:19unless the player Milwaukee would be in love with the player
- 21:25go being. Picked who they take #2 overall
- 21:28in the draft behind Cooper flag. If they see a.
- 21:31Player who they think is going to be an absolute star at #2
- 21:36overall in the draft, whoever it might be.
- 21:39And yeah, then you make the deal because you you're going to
- 21:43immediately hit upon it with a start back and have some number
- 21:47of the number one picks. I could then see that.
- 21:50But but why would San Antonio want to do that?
- 21:54They go #2 over on the draft. Why get a 30 year old Giannis
- 21:59when you can get a stud coming out of college?
- 22:02I mean, you couldn't. Good morning to you, Rick.
- 22:05You could, but these are just like possibilities, like teams.
- 22:08I heard, you know, rumblings. You do speak solidly about the
- 22:11Knicks. But this is the thing.
- 22:13Remember, we talked about moving players around.
- 22:16If he comes to the Knicks, they're talking about trading
- 22:19Karl Anthony Towns. For what?
- 22:21I don't think they're going to trade.
- 22:23Them I mean that that's kind of news on this now.
- 22:27Karl Anthony Towns is going to be a Knick, you know.
- 22:30Next year and Karl Anthony Towns, we saw what he could do
- 22:33when he's at his best. Karl Anthony Towns at times had
- 22:38wasn't adjusting maybe to the team concept.
- 22:42I mean, maybe he didn't, you know, the flow of the game kind
- 22:45of got away from him. He was committing a lot of silly
- 22:48files in the Indiana series, a lot of them.
- 22:51But we saw the way he could take over a game, the way he could
- 22:54drive to the basket, the way he could rebound.
- 22:59You know, it's hard to move on from a guy like Karl Anthony
- 23:01Towns. But then consider this.
- 23:04If Karl Anthony Towns was truly a dominant player with any
- 23:08consistency, at some point he would have gotten the
- 23:12Timberwolves to now the Knicks into the Finals, you know, and
- 23:17you know, they couldn't quite take the next step.
- 23:19But then again, you want to know something.
- 23:21But then again, it's hard because if you take away Jokic,
- 23:27we might agree that Jokic is the best player in the NBA.
- 23:31OK, we might. There's a good chance most.
- 23:33People would say that. That Jokic is the best player.
- 23:38Jokic has only gotten to the Finals 1.
- 23:40Time where they won it. Where they won the championship,
- 23:43but look at year after year, he doesn't get his team to the
- 23:47finals. And if he didn't win that one
- 23:50championship and let's say they got eliminated before the
- 23:53finals, what might we be saying about them?
- 23:59I don't know Jack, I disagree just a little bit.
- 24:03Even though Karl Anthony Towns had these subpar games, you
- 24:08definitely well, no, I do agree with the part you you definitely
- 24:11don't want to really put him in a trade package.
- 24:14He's one of your bigger names. Even if he, I mean, let's
- 24:19compare him for a small moment, even though there's really not a
- 24:21real comparison. It's enough Anthony Edwards for
- 24:24a little bit. People were talking about how
- 24:26they wanted him to be the face of the MB, the league, blah
- 24:29blah, the NBA for the MVP candidate and all this stuff,
- 24:32the series, and he definitely wasn't.
- 24:35We saw him flop. We saw him struggle offensively.
- 24:38We saw him not even go for the big plays that he normally had
- 24:40gone for. I think this is kind of a
- 24:43similar comparison with Carl Anthony Towns because he too,
- 24:48you know, all players have this tendency of being up and down,
- 24:51up and down. I think it just depends on the
- 24:54the players that are surrounding you.
- 24:56I think it's you're just as good as, I don't want to say you're a
- 25:00game manager, but you're not a good solo breakout player like a
- 25:04Kobe or LeBron or, or those type of players in those eras.
- 25:09And even now, Jack, with that one, I mean, he has been linked
- 25:14though, of course, to the Celtics, but the Celtics
- 25:17reportedly can't afford him because they got some financial
- 25:20issues to deal with. Celtics want to link themselves
- 25:24to everybody. They will link the Cooper flag.
- 25:27How are they going to get Cooper flag in this draft?
- 25:29Come on. What are they going to?
- 25:31What ships? Do they have?
- 25:34I don't. Know I.
- 25:35Mean they. They're not getting Cooper flag.
- 25:41They, they interviewed them, work them out or whatever they
- 25:44did beforehand. And he's not, yeah, he's not
- 25:48going there. Cooper flag's gone to Dallas and
- 25:51Dallas, you know, Dallas would be borderline insane.
- 25:56Trade Cooper flag 'cause I can't see anything that they could
- 26:01trade them for, short of San Antonio, which San Antonio
- 26:05wouldn't even consider it giving Wemby if they call them and
- 26:08offer them Wemby, Yeah, but that's ridiculous for me.
- 26:12Maybe even bring that up. So he's going to, he's going to
- 26:17be a Maverick, considering his age and everything.
- 26:21But the point is, we see when you take a.
- 26:24Star like a Giannis and you put them on another team.
- 26:28It doesn't mean success. Let's look at.
- 26:31How many times that's been done and hasn't worked out OK, Lucas
- 26:36went to the Lakers. It didn't work out this year.
- 26:39Lakers weren't any better, you know, in the playoffs.
- 26:42Yeah. That would have been with
- 26:44Anthony Davis and they did win an NBA title with Anthony Davis.
- 26:49And this two star system doesn't work if the rest of the team is
- 26:55not this cohesiveness. I mean, we see it with the
- 26:58Sixers. When that beat is in, he has
- 27:00maxi. You know Damian Lillard went and
- 27:03he joined the Bucks and the Bucks is supposed to be
- 27:06championship contenders. You know, him joining Giannis.
- 27:10It didn't work out. I mean, listen, when teams win
- 27:13in the NBA championship, you normally point to a second star
- 27:16player because winning makes it a player star as opposed to a
- 27:22star making a team a winner, OK, like Chad Holmgren, he's the
- 27:27perfect #2 you know, on that OKC team.
- 27:31But Holmgren, you know you can label him a stop you want.
- 27:35He's a Staun OKC. But if you put him on another
- 27:39team like the Washington Wizards, he's not.
- 27:42You know it's effective. Yeah, that team doesn't even
- 27:46have anything there. I mean, so two things, Jack, I
- 27:49want your opinion on this. One, you brought up OKC put a
- 27:53pin in that because I want to, I want to bring up something about
- 27:56if he were to go there because that's how we kind of started
- 27:59this whole conversation. But let's think about you talk
- 28:03about like how Giannis went to the Lakers and it didn't make a
- 28:08difference. Oh, Luca, Luca.
- 28:09Excuse me? I always mix them up, Luca to
- 28:14the Lakers and even with LeBron there.
- 28:17It did. It just was not enough.
- 28:20The Warriors were eliminated when Stephen Curry went down,
- 28:24even though Jimmy Butler was there.
- 28:25Jack, that's the first part of this question.
- 28:28Was he supposed to be a difference maker?
- 28:30And then I want to talk to you about possibly if they get
- 28:33Yannis, do you like the problem? With Jimmy Butler, he's a twina.
- 28:40They're stars and they're. Superstar type players.
- 28:44Jimmy Butler has never been a superstar type player.
- 28:47I know he took the heat to the finals a couple of times and
- 28:51he's been tremendous in certain spots.
- 28:55Big respect to Jimmy Butler's a player, but Jimmy Butler is a
- 28:59little below the level of the Giannises, the Lucas, you know.
- 29:05He's gone down to his, he's gone down.
- 29:08No, well, he's older, getting older.
- 29:11He might be at the. Back end of his prime, put it
- 29:14that way. OK, that's a a polite way of
- 29:17putting it, but Jimmy Butler has never been a stupid star type
- 29:21player. He's.
- 29:22Been, you know, when you talk Batman and Robin, he's been more
- 29:26like in between the two of them, OK.
- 29:30And you know, he can elevate, he can elevate A-Team and be a
- 29:33scarf a given amount of time. But, you know, he's not.
- 29:37He was never on the level of Steph Curry.
- 29:40Not quite, you know. And this is Jimmy Butler.
- 29:43That's best. And no disrespect to Jimmy
- 29:45Butler, a great player. But when we talked about the top
- 29:50five players in the NBA, Jimmy Butler's name never came into
- 29:54the equation when he was at his best of being one of the top
- 29:58five players. Now all these other.
- 30:00Names they they have been brought up when we plucked top
- 30:05five players at one point another like Giannis, Kevin
- 30:08Durant, Tatum, you know, and well, Jimmy, yeah, Jimmy Butler,
- 30:14it's a good fit that he went to the Warriors.
- 30:17They're going to run it back with Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler,
- 30:21Raymond Green. Like they should run it back, I
- 30:24think because Sonia. Your players on your team, like
- 30:30the Warriors, other teams, other teams want them.
- 30:34If other teams want them bad enough, why don't you just hold
- 30:37on to them? Yeah, I just, this is my thing
- 30:42on it. I feel like Jimmy Butler overall
- 30:45has kind of like I was just pulling up his stats while we
- 30:48were talking and sorry, I had to mute my line because for some
- 30:52reason I have my Alexa where she gives me the weather every day
- 30:55at 8:30. And so I don't want people to
- 30:57hear that it just she. Just started talking about the
- 30:59weather is. One of the most anticipated
- 31:01things that people turn to. People check on the weather
- 31:04before they check on our show. I'll tell.
- 31:06You. Yeah.
- 31:07I mean, yeah, they want to know if they need to take out a
- 31:09jacket or an umbrella for today, Jack.
- 31:11I mean, this weather, I mean, it's 60° here in Atlanta and has
- 31:15been cool the last couple of days in June now that we're in
- 31:19June. But listen, Jimmy Butler in
- 31:212023, which is only a couple of seasons ago, he was the Eastern
- 31:26Conference Finals MVP. Yeah, but he averages.
- 31:34OK. So over his fourteen seasons, I
- 31:36didn't realize he'd been with with in the league so long.
- 31:40He was with the Bulls, T, Wolves, 76ers, Heat and now the
- 31:44Warriors. I didn't realize he was such a
- 31:46journeyman in the league either. Jack, He's been circumstances
- 31:5118. In 2324, he had 20 points per
- 31:55game, but in the other games he averaged almost 18 points.
- 31:58So his points are not really that different.
- 32:01I don't know if he ever was a big haymaker, as you say, as we
- 32:04talked about to be that maybe you know, you're right.
- 32:08He's this tweener that just basically assist everybody.
- 32:12But with him, OK, I brought Jimmy Butler up because if you
- 32:17bring Giannis there to pair with Jimmy Butler, Stephen Curry, of
- 32:22course, Draymond Green, they they have expressed reservations
- 32:26and now bringing Giannis in there, another big name as well.
- 32:37To give. For Giannis.
- 32:38OK, they'll have to pay him. They just have to pay him.
- 32:41Yeah, no, Giannis isn't a free agent.
- 32:44The Bucks would have to trade them.
- 32:46Yeah, I don't mean, I mean, can they, can teams do they always
- 32:51have to trade? Can they ever offer like a
- 32:53financial, you know, switch out so the other players, other team
- 32:57can get another player? That's a trade.
- 33:00That's what it's called a trade. Milwaukee has yet to talk to
- 33:04Giannis on knowledge, at least, and they're going to find out
- 33:08from him. You want to be traded or not if
- 33:11Giannis says he wants to be a Milwaukee Buck.
- 33:14For the rest of his career, then maybe the Bucks make that
- 33:17commitment to him and he's a Buck the rest of his career.
- 33:23If Giannis says he'd like to go elsewhere, then the Bucks could
- 33:28look and work out the best deal they can.
- 33:30Or maybe do nothing and maybe say no, we want to keep you.
- 33:34And if Yanis shows a lot of discontent, really shows him
- 33:39he's unhappy to be there, than a work out a deal if Yanis says.
- 33:43He. They can do whatever they want.
- 33:46If they want to trade them, it's OK.
- 33:48If they don't want to, it's up to them.
- 33:51Then. We don't know what Milwaukee
- 33:53does, but you want to. Sell.
- 33:55When the selling price is high, when you could get a high price
- 33:59back. And Giannis can get a lot back.
- 34:03Now, sometimes if you wait an extra year, the play is a year
- 34:07older, his performance might go down a little, He might get
- 34:12injured. I mean, a case in point, the
- 34:15Celtics never would have traded Jason Tatum.
- 34:19No, no way, No way. But let's say for one moment
- 34:23they would have traded Jason Tatum before last year.
- 34:28Imagine what they could have gotten in return for Jason Tatum
- 34:32now if they tried. To trade Jason Tatum now coming
- 34:35off his injury, you know they're not, they're not going to get
- 34:40much in comparison to what they would have gotten when he was
- 34:42healthy a year. Earlier.
- 34:45And but what you said about Jimmy Butler, Jimmy?
- 34:47Butler Times carried the Miami Heat.
- 34:50To me, Jimmy Butler is a future Hall of Famer.
- 34:54He would get my vote for the Hall of Fame.
- 34:56So I don't mean to diminish Jimmy Butler.
- 34:58He's been a great player. He's been a great player and at
- 35:03times he's played like a superstar.
- 35:06But he's not one of these superstars, you know, of the
- 35:10NBA. He's just a kind of a little
- 35:13below that. And that should be accepted and
- 35:17we could. When you talk about superstar
- 35:19type talents, you talk about Luka, you talk about Giannis,
- 35:24you talk about Djokic, obviously SGA.
- 35:29You. Can't you run SIN?
- 35:32Let's give him a little more time as far as entering that
- 35:35territory, Halliburton. Give him more time to see what
- 35:39he could do going forward. Anthony Edwards, give them more
- 35:43time, you know, going forward, you know, you have a number of
- 35:46guys like that. Let's see whether they progress.
- 35:50To. Superstar level or not.
- 35:52Yeah, and let me talk about something Speaking of big NBA
- 35:57news, Jack, and trades, because we know the draft is coming up
- 36:02later this month, last week of June, yesterday marked the first
- 36:07day of this month. So people are are definitely
- 36:09looking because the offseason has officially started.
- 36:12Kevin Durant, Jack looks like there is a mess in Phoenix.
- 36:18Of course, it looks like the Suns tried to trade him before
- 36:23the deadline without him even knowing it.
- 36:26And now the relationship between Durant and the and the Suns is
- 36:30fractured. And I mean, now it looks like
- 36:34the trade is inevitable because the relationship has been
- 36:37severed and the Spurs may or the Warriors have mentioned actual
- 36:43interest in him. Like what in the world?
- 36:48You're muted, Jack, your, your line is muted.
- 36:50You're muted. The Warriors were interested in
- 36:53trading for Durant last season. Phoenix did speak to Durant
- 36:58about it. Durant didn't want to go back
- 37:01there. And the thing about Phoenix was
- 37:04a couple of years ago, it didn't work out.
- 37:06When they got Durant didn't work out.
- 37:08So the owner decided we're going to run it back with the same
- 37:11same guys. You know my formula.
- 37:13Sometimes running it back, sometimes it works.
- 37:17A lot of times it doesn't work. It failed dismally running it
- 37:22back with Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
- 37:25You. Know they were.
- 37:26Terrible. They didn't even make the plan
- 37:28tournament. So to hold on to Durant now?
- 37:32What's the purpose? They're not going to bounce back
- 37:35from anything. I mean, they're not.
- 37:37They're going to be. If they've been bad with them
- 37:40the last couple of years, it's going to just continue.
- 37:44So they're going to see what? Type of value.
- 37:46They can get, I mean, I would think Durant's main value would
- 37:51be to a team that has a chance of winning the title.
- 37:55I mean, there's a familiarity with them at Golden.
- 37:58State, obviously he did get along with the coach there, you
- 38:02know, the front office, the other players, because if he
- 38:07didn't, they wouldn't be trying to get him back.
- 38:09And when he left Golden State, he left as a free agent to go to
- 38:14the Brooklyn. Nets and you know, Durant's won
- 38:18a couple of championships. He won him in a great situation.
- 38:23He went to a 73 win team in Golden State who set in NBA
- 38:27regular season record and when he won those championships and
- 38:32got Finals MVP both years, we thought to ourselves, you know.
- 38:36Durant proved how greatest. You know he's.
- 38:39Better than Steph Curry. We see him side by side, but now
- 38:42we know Steph Curry was the Ultimate Team player.
- 38:46He deferred to Durant that Steph Curry, I think when all is.
- 38:49Said and done with. That's the.
- 38:51Chef Steph, Steph's a better player than Durant.
- 38:55I mean, Durant's a great player. Steph's a better player.
- 38:59Durant, I would label him as kind of a little bit of a
- 39:04disappointing superstar because you know, such great talent,
- 39:08great player. He's been.
- 39:10Good every time he takes the court, it seems, but something
- 39:15is lacking now. He could go back to Golden State
- 39:18and the whole crew will be together and it could help the
- 39:21team. It would be, I guess, a good fit
- 39:24for him. I mean, you don't want to see
- 39:26Durant go somewhere like the Utah Jazz, you know?
- 39:31You know the Charlotte Hornets and teams like that, you know
- 39:35it. You want him to go to like a
- 39:38stable group. I think going back to Golden
- 39:41State would have been good for him, but I think he had some
- 39:43issues with Draymond Green that may have turned them off.
- 39:48I mean, yeah, I I would like him in Charlotte, but it's for
- 39:51selfish reasons. I don't think he'd be enough to
- 39:53turn the team around. Speaking of teams in that same
- 39:57division, that same league, the Hawks, every year we hear them
- 40:01talk about Trey Young and possibly moving on like they
- 40:04just have not gotten class that play and stay in phase to go to
- 40:08the make a solid run for the championship.
- 40:11Now it looks like they're looking to finally trade him
- 40:14again. His name has been coming up in
- 40:16in trade discussions. He's one of my favorite Hawks
- 40:19players and so I just, I don't know where they would send Trey,
- 40:24but. They're looking to try to get
- 40:27their offense rebuild like they've got to make a solid run.
- 40:30The Hawks have not been where they need to be for quite some
- 40:33time. Yeah, the more.
- 40:34Things to look. Into, believe it or not, to
- 40:37just. Winning and losing the fan base.
- 40:42You could. Tell me, is Freddie Young?
- 40:44A big fan favorite. Do they love him?
- 40:47Does he raise the profile of the Hawks franchise in Atlanta?
- 40:54OK. If he's one of these popular.
- 40:57Atlanta Hawk players who everyone loves.
- 41:00I guess maybe you? Hold on to him unless someone
- 41:03off. This year just.
- 41:04But that's why they've been holding on to him.
- 41:07That's the whole line. Very.
- 41:09You're saying he's extremely popular?
- 41:11He's OK. So for me living in Atlanta, I'm
- 41:14a Hawks fan, but I but I like the Hornets because that's my
- 41:17home team. But I go to Hawks games and
- 41:20people literally love Trey Young.
- 41:24Like he's just one of those players that kind of sticks out.
- 41:28He's personable, everything. And so that's, I think that's
- 41:31why the Hawks have been hanging on to him As for as long as they
- 41:33have Jack, because they feel some sense of loyalty for the
- 41:37fans. OK, then you then let him be a
- 41:41career Atlanta Hawk. He.
- 41:43Certainly doesn't hurt the. Team.
- 41:46But is he? If you're good enough players,
- 41:49you stop player to take you to the next level.
- 41:52He was projected to be a big star in the league.
- 41:55And he's the kind of guy who hit a wall.
- 41:57Like we were talking about Jimmy Butler before I put Jimmy Butler
- 42:00ahead of Trey Young, of course, with all he's done over his
- 42:03career. But it's, you know, Trey.
- 42:07Young is never going to. Be one of on the short list of
- 42:11elite players in the league. Let's accept that he's going to
- 42:14have great moments and he's going to be a tweener, but on
- 42:18the lower end, you know, from being a superstar.
- 42:25I mean, so I don't know because they literally have Trey as I
- 42:29was just looking while we're talking, they have they have
- 42:32Trey Young as like literally being one of their volume
- 42:35players. So it's not just from a
- 42:38perspective of the fans. Let's see his stats overall,
- 42:42just in general. He's he played 76 of the games.
- 42:47He's averaging 24.2 points per game, which is higher than Jimmy
- 42:52Butler. Jack.
- 42:53Somebody has got to score, somebody has got to put on nice
- 42:59stats for the team. It's so deceiving.
- 43:03I used to laugh with Mac like he for the box.
- 43:06Scores and say, Oh, no one so chipped in with 28 points and I
- 43:11said, yeah, they shot 10 for 30, you know?
- 43:16Who I. We would joke.
- 43:19Around about it, he would laugh about it and we'd have fun with
- 43:22that. Well, he won't just sit.
- 43:25He is. He was the number one leader in
- 43:27the NBA for assist this last season.
- 43:30I mean, is that that enough for you assist?
- 43:34To the. Most might have got to do it
- 43:35assist. Such an.
- 43:38Overrated stat. I mean you just bring the.
- 43:42Ball up slowly. Pass it to someone, they score,
- 43:45you get an assist. I mean, it's just he's just
- 43:50helping. He's a.
- 43:53Very good player, I don't mean to diminish.
- 43:56Him, yeah, No. Back up a player.
- 43:59But the Hawks, are they going to take the next step with them?
- 44:03Would they be better off working out a deal for him or not?
- 44:06That's the question. But if he's extremely popular
- 44:09with the fan base, maybe you don't want to work out a deal.
- 44:13Look, we talked on the past show with the fan base.
- 44:17One of the most courageous moves.
- 44:20Ever was made by Donnie Walsh with the Indiana Pacers.
- 44:24Everyone. In Indiana, wanted Steve Alfred
- 44:26for him to draft him. Steve Alfred from Indiana, you
- 44:31know, great college player on the Barbie Knight, you know, a
- 44:35hero in Indiana. He drafted Reggie Miller, a
- 44:40black player, OK, from California.
- 44:44I mean, think of that. OK, Reggie Miller and the people
- 44:49with furious, Donny Walsh said. As soon as I drafted Reggie
- 44:52Miller, I went into hiding. And by and that was the right
- 44:56move to make. That was the brilliant move to
- 44:59make, the gutsy move to make. And imagine had the Pacers had
- 45:04another GM. And they wimped out and they
- 45:07took Steve out, but who never turned into a quality NBA
- 45:10player. And Reggie Miller goes
- 45:12elsewhere. He would have been a star no
- 45:14matter where he went. I mean, think of what that would
- 45:17have meant for the Pacer franchise.
- 45:20I mean, just to Donnie's credit, he is an attorney.
- 45:25So maybe he just felt like he was analytically choosing
- 45:28things. He's still in fact, connected
- 45:30with the Pacers, you know, because he's had such a
- 45:32respected tenure with that organization as as being in the
- 45:36front office. But he also was with the Knicks
- 45:38for a little bit. Now he's just in an advisory
- 45:41role. You know, he's a little older or
- 45:42what have you, but he's one of the reasons why they have such a
- 45:46strong culture. Even today.
- 45:49They are so I, I don't know Jack, I feel like sometimes
- 45:53people can overanalyze things and and you just can't ever know
- 45:58100% what you're getting when you're bringing players in.
- 46:01You could be thinking you're just getting an OK person and
- 46:03they blow up, or you think they're a * athlete and they're
- 46:07not. What you you never know what
- 46:10the. Top basketball minds a sharp NFL
- 46:14and Major League Baseball thinking, For example, this
- 46:16year's draft. Dallas is excited and we're
- 46:19assuming and I feel guilty. How you doing?
- 46:23Yeah, you like? That I I was going to talk about
- 46:26your shirt before we got out. Good morning, Brent.
- 46:32We're we're assuming The Mavericks.
- 46:33Are going to take Cooper flag #1.
- 46:36What happens if they're looking at the draft and they're
- 46:39thinking there's someone else that they absolutely feel is
- 46:44going to be a better NBA player? But if you don't take Cooper
- 46:52flag, you imagine your Nico Harrison and they say he's done
- 46:56it again. He traded Luke and he's
- 46:58bypassing, you know, Cooper flag.
- 47:03It would take extraordinary courage to do that if you draft
- 47:08Cooper flag and he doesn't make it.
- 47:11That is, he's not a star. He's going to be a good player
- 47:14at the very least. But if he's not a star, not a a
- 47:18true impact player, no one is going to criticize Dallas
- 47:22because everyone else would have made that move, for example.
- 47:27The year, Michael. Jordan got drafted.
- 47:28He went #3 over raw. Everyone criticizes the way they
- 47:33should. The Portland Trail Blazers for
- 47:35taking Sam Bowie at #2 That was a mistake.
- 47:40But no one criticizes the Houston Rockets for taking Hakim
- 47:44Elijah one at #1 because Hakim Elijah.
- 47:47One was from the University of Houston.
- 47:50He was a hero in Houston and everyone knew he was a great
- 47:53player. Of course, if the Rockets could
- 47:56do the draft all over again, it's great as Hakeem was.
- 47:59They probably would have taken Jordan, OK number one in the
- 48:03draft and then Hakeem would have gone second.
- 48:06If there was a redrafting. But some mistakes, you know,
- 48:12it's, it's some picks it takes. An extraordinary amount of guts
- 48:17to go against what everybody wants.
- 48:20I'm going to tell you this because Cooper flag has such a
- 48:25comprehensive talent of the game on both sides of the ball.
- 48:30Like they've compared him to so many greats and they're actually
- 48:34talking about he well, he's the youngest player now to be
- 48:37drafted. He's only 18, won't be 19 until
- 48:40December. But basically they've compared
- 48:44him to when LeBron was was drafted and you know LeBron when
- 48:48he first came out. But with Cooper, he's going to
- 48:51make up a be a playmaker from day one.
- 48:54Doesn't have to be groomed or acclimated or any of that stuff.
- 48:57Jack, if, if Dallas decides for whatever reason, like, oh, we'll
- 49:02just go ahead and and give him to someone else, they are going
- 49:06to be laughed for probably durations.
- 49:09I mean, you think they laugh at the Cowboys?
- 49:12Imagine the way they will laugh at the Mavs if they pass on
- 49:16Cooper flag. Cooper, excuse me, is is very
- 49:21sought after and Dallas got very lucky to be able to get #1
- 49:25because I don't. I don't know if they've had a
- 49:27number one pick, if ever or either quite some time.
- 49:30I can't remember at the moment. But it's up there that they
- 49:33never really land the number one pick on the flip side.
- 49:38And Marcus Wire years. Ago, Marcus, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 49:42yeah. Gary yeah.
- 49:43Marcus Wire, that was. Marcus Wire.
- 49:46Yeah, yeah, yeah. I will tell you this.
- 49:50On the flip side of that, if they draft him and he's a bust,
- 49:54at least people will know they did what they were supposed to
- 49:57do. You don't want to be in a
- 49:59position where it's the shoulda, woulda, coulda and you were on
- 50:03the side that it could have been beneficial and now somebody else
- 50:06has him and they're going to the championship, but you're sitting
- 50:09at home. If that was to happen, Jack,
- 50:11somebody's going to lose their job.
- 50:14Well, yeah, I mean, he's the obvious.
- 50:17Pick Cooper flag with Dallas but I'm.
- 50:21Just. Saying that basketball minds, if
- 50:23they like another guy ahead of them, for example, and Zion
- 50:28Williamson, the year he went, you know that the Pelicans
- 50:32picked them. Number one, you had Jay Moran at
- 50:35#2 and it would have taken a lot of guts by the Pelicans to draft
- 50:41Jay Moran. The head of.
- 50:42Zion Williams Because everyone wanted Williamson, you know.
- 50:48When he on the Pelicans he was the constenses pick so.
- 50:55I mean Zion was, but jaw. Jaw has really stayed in the
- 51:00league for the most part. Been uninjured Zions been
- 51:03plagued with injuries and that's the other thing you have to
- 51:05think about. Zion came into the draft not
- 51:09really in his top physical health.
- 51:12Jack, he was overweight. You know, to this day they've
- 51:15talked about how he needs to slim up, you know, all that
- 51:18stuff. He burst out of his shoes.
- 51:20None of that's happened with Cooper Flag.
- 51:22Cooper is slim. He's tall, he's athletic.
- 51:26He looks, you know, very much in good health.
- 51:29I don't think injuries would be a concern that the injuries Zion
- 51:33are having are because of his own health, you know, his own,
- 51:36the way he takes care of his body conditioning.
- 51:39Look the the fans in Dallas just.
- 51:40Want to win with no matter who what other type of player but no
- 51:45one likes to gross the topic but Kuperflex White too.
- 51:49And it's red. I have.
- 51:51A white superstar. So it's going to invoke memory.
- 51:56Memories, maybe. Oh, is he going to be the next
- 51:59Larry Bird? You know, it's wonderful.
- 52:02Stuff, I mean, let's, Yeah, you know.
- 52:04Yeah, I guess, you know, yeah, you talk about it like that.
- 52:07I mean, because there's been so many, you know, black or African
- 52:10American leaders for so long. I mean, there's there's a a
- 52:15funny movie White man can't Jump that kind of like relates to the
- 52:19whole basketball thing. And I guess maybe now, you know,
- 52:21it is trying to transcend, transcend back to, OK, let's get
- 52:26a, a leader that is, you know, white.
- 52:29But then they get Yanis people from.
- 52:31Overseas. Lead us the wrong word.
- 52:35Cooper flag on to Dallas. Keep this in mind.
- 52:39The moment Dallas traded Luca, there was a storyline developing
- 52:45that people weren't thinking about.
- 52:47It makes Kyrie Irving the leader that Team Kyrie Irving could
- 52:52never. Be the leader.
- 52:54Of the Dallas Maverick team, as long as Luca was there, now
- 52:57Kyrie, the leader, Anthony Davis came on board.
- 53:01Anthony Davis is willing not to be the leader per say.
- 53:06I mean, he'll lead during the game, Anthony.
- 53:09You know, but so Cooper flags coming on as a rookie.
- 53:15OK, Anthony Davis, listen to Kyrie, just play the game hard.
- 53:21And Cooper? Flag.
- 53:22You know Kyrie's going to want to take him on this.
- 53:25Wing this and that, and I don't mean Kyrie's intentions.
- 53:29Are going to be good. Don't get me wrong, I don't
- 53:31think he has an ego. Let's keep this kid in his
- 53:34place. He's he's going to sincerely
- 53:36want Cooper Flag to do well, that Kyrie's basically going to
- 53:40be running things in a sense. And.
- 53:45That could backfire, backfire. The.
- 53:48Celtics, he was there with Tatum and Brown and look what
- 53:52happened. Kyrie was in the leadership role
- 53:54in it. Like I said, it backfired in
- 53:57with the Nets. It was a disaster.
- 54:00You know, with Durant and Harden, with Kyrie there, I
- 54:03shouldn't say a disaster. One year.
- 54:05They could have a fit and have injuries.
- 54:07They could have conceivably won the NBA title.
- 54:10But Harden and then Kyrie got hurt.
- 54:13I let me tell you this Kyrie Irving is is borderline toxic in
- 54:22my opinion. I don't want to hear of him
- 54:25leading anybody, Jack. He's controversial to the point
- 54:30of, and everybody's entitled to their own opinions and their own
- 54:33beliefs, etcetera, etcetera. But some of the stuff that Kyrie
- 54:36does and says on social media and his own, you know, the
- 54:40behavior that we've seen all the way back from during the
- 54:43pandemic that that started everything, I don't want to hear
- 54:48about him being a leader of anybody.
- 54:50Well, he's called it a Dallas, I mean, and he's just played ball
- 54:55and he's kind, I don't want to say reinvented himself, but he's
- 54:59kind of slipped under the radar and there's there hasn't been
- 55:04any controversial comments. He's kind of kept it quiet, you
- 55:07know, in a sense. So he.
- 55:11Told him he needs to start silencing it a little bit if he
- 55:14wants to keep a career in the league.
- 55:15Like whoever his advisor is, is probably like look dude, simmer
- 55:20down a little bit as we see in the South, simmer down because
- 55:24you are going to have yourself over here blacklisted at some
- 55:27point with with your comments and your behavior.
- 55:30Well, I think it's more problem we mentioned Zion before, you
- 55:34know with his off the court issue coming on right now, he
- 55:38has a serious, you know, off the court issue.
- 55:41Oh my God. Let's not pass judgement,
- 55:45because we're not. But.
- 55:48Let's not pass judgement on it. I'm just saying it's been in the
- 55:52news once. It's once it's in the news, in
- 55:55your public personality, you know, it's it's something that's
- 56:01bad at the New Orleans Pelican front office.
- 56:05No say we got to deal with this. We got.
- 56:08It's out of your control once it makes mainstream because listen
- 56:12to this, Jack, even though you and I are saying we're not
- 56:16passing judgment because we know whatever, whatever, you know,
- 56:19things happen when a person is is accused of certain things.
- 56:24It doesn't matter what the court of law figures out for that
- 56:28person. It's always going to now be in
- 56:31people's minds. You can't unthink what you know.
- 56:34That's what I always say. You can't unknown what you
- 56:37already know. Absolutely, 100%.
- 56:41And then that person is, you know, if someone else accuses
- 56:46them of something or they're on the suspicion, that's.
- 56:50You know, it's unfortunate that the.
- 56:52You wish these things didn't come out publicly unless there
- 56:57were until there was at least a resolution of the case or.
- 57:00If he wasn't, if he's never found guilty of anything, that
- 57:04doesn't come out altogether. Well this case was not even
- 57:09criminals so this is just civil which would mean liability.
- 57:12She just wants money basically. They didn't.
- 57:15But see a lot of times when cases come out civilly, then the
- 57:19prosecutors will be like, wait a minute, we didn't know about
- 57:22this. Let's look at the statue of
- 57:23limitations in our state to see if we still have enough time to
- 57:27bring a criminal suit against this person.
- 57:29And then it's built or innocence.
- 57:31So this thing could go crazy. Like if they had met with a
- 57:34mediator and set up behind closed doors, it would have
- 57:38never made it to the media and it would never be right now.
- 57:41Right now, if there's any hint of truth to this, he has to pay
- 57:46just to get get this thing to go away.
- 57:48But your, your reputation is now out there.
- 57:51You already been injured, you already haven't been performing
- 57:54at your peak level that they thought you were number one
- 57:56pick, and now you have this huge personal accusation against you.
- 58:00Yeah, it could be a career killer.
- 58:03Really, Jack? If it's just a simple thing and
- 58:08he has to pay a lot. Of money, his career is going to
- 58:11continue. Well, you're.
- 58:13Paying. He won't.
- 58:14Be out, he won't be out of the league.
- 58:17But Jack, I always say, why would you pay if you're totally
- 58:20innocent of something? I agree completely.
- 58:23Sometimes someone likes to. Pay a little money just to make
- 58:27something go away. It's not worth the headache to
- 58:29them, you know? And it depends, you know, really
- 58:33depends on what's what. And you don't want to get tied
- 58:38up in court and all that. What can I say, you know?
- 58:42That's how it, that's how it goes.
- 58:43That's how the chips fall. Jack, always a great show with
- 58:47you on Wednesday. Jack and I will join you again
