- 0:07Speaker 1: This immediated podcast. Welcome to Mediator Trivite, the only game
- 0:12Speaker 1: show conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Orthan.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Today we're joined by many special guests, including Brandon Butler,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Brad Cape, and Phil Yeomans. Am I saying that right?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Or I mess it up again? That is correct? Awesome?
- 0:24Speaker 1: All right? In addition to them, we also have Steve Karin,
- 0:27Speaker 1: Brody Jannis, and Sean Well. Let's point out, um, Brandon
- 0:32Speaker 1: butler'sn't been on the show many times ye several times
- 0:36Speaker 1: he people would know would recognize people to listen to
- 0:38Speaker 1: me Eater podcasts with his story about turning in some
- 0:43Speaker 1: poachers and in retaliation having his home burnt down. Pat
- 0:48Speaker 1: Durkin has written about it twice on the Mediator dot com.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Covered the story and introduce our other fellers here because
- 0:53Speaker 1: you guys have covered that, it's right. We also have
- 0:56Speaker 1: the Wyoming Corner crossing victims. Two of the b of
- 1:00Speaker 1: you correct for two of the four of you. What
- 1:02Speaker 1: happened to the other two guys? Why couldn't they make
- 1:04Speaker 1: it the good prior obligations? Yeah, maybe they're too good
- 1:11Speaker 1: at trivia, that's right, Brandon, Brad, Phil how you guys
- 1:13Speaker 1: feel about trivia. I've got a stack of trivial pursuit
- 1:16Speaker 1: games in the corner at home. Really, I get them
- 1:19Speaker 1: at like the Good Finishing. It's one of my life
- 1:21Speaker 1: garage sale look for things. Sure, can I play partners? Yeah? Now,
- 1:28Speaker 1: if you're not familiar, this is a ten round quiz
- 1:30Speaker 1: show with questions from our four verticals of one more thing, Yes,
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yanni wants to Brianni brought up a great question while
- 1:38Speaker 1: we were making nineteen pounds of meatballs for a four
- 1:41Speaker 1: each event yesterday. And when you're frying nineteen pounds of
- 1:43Speaker 1: one inch meatballs, you've got a lot of time to talk. Yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I was kind of surprised. It was one of those deals.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I feel like Steve's mind was somewhere else because I'd like,
- 1:51Speaker 1: ask a couple of questions, I get an answer or two,
- 1:54Speaker 1: but it never would go anywhere and be quiet for
- 1:56Speaker 1: a minute or two, and then I'd be like, well,
- 1:58Speaker 1: what about in trivia? You know what I say? We
- 2:00Speaker 1: haven't had a person to have a clean sweep and
- 2:03Speaker 1: win and get every question right. Now we have sitting perfect.
- 2:07Speaker 1: We had a perfect game. Oh we think that a
- 2:09Speaker 1: perfect game? Should you get a thousand dollars donation. We
- 2:14Speaker 1: could retroactively do that. I think that was even during
- 2:16Speaker 1: the hundred dollar days. I didn't know he played a
- 2:22Speaker 1: perfect game. But I think if you get a perfect game,
- 2:24Speaker 1: it's a thousand bucks. I don't know. Sean sitting over
- 2:26Speaker 1: my shoulder here, I need some folders to put up.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I would feel you can trust him. I would feel
- 2:32Speaker 1: as though I failed the podcast. If I allowed another
- 2:35Speaker 1: perfect game. I think then I'm not I don't have
- 2:37Speaker 1: good trim. Challenge accepted. That's right, I like it. We
- 2:42Speaker 1: can do that going forward. Thousand bucks if you pitch
- 2:44Speaker 1: a perfect game. Now again, these questions are from our
- 2:48Speaker 1: four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking, and
- 2:50Speaker 1: there is a prize. Media will donate five hundred dollars
- 2:54Speaker 1: or a thousand to the conservation organization of the winners choosing.
- 2:58Speaker 1: So far, we've had Steep winning six times. We're already
- 3:00Speaker 1: went into no. So here's here's the problem. Are you
- 3:05Speaker 1: not doing it? Here's I vow to you that it
- 3:08Speaker 1: will get done. Problem is I have to go back
- 3:10Speaker 1: and listen to twelve podcasts that are thirty minutes each.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Don't Yeah, dude, because it's not a better way to
- 3:16Speaker 1: do it than that. Here's the problem. We tend to
- 3:18Speaker 1: get to the end of the show, and when Phil
- 3:21Speaker 1: gives his updates, he's only giving updates for the people
- 3:23Speaker 1: that are in it. So I want to figure out
- 3:25Speaker 1: who's getting If I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do it.
- 3:27Speaker 1: We're gonna get how many questions everybody in the room
- 3:30Speaker 1: gets right. So we're gonna do this right. I may
- 3:33Speaker 1: even need to like get some listener help if you
- 3:35Speaker 1: want to help me out and h help me keep
- 3:38Speaker 1: a spreadsheet for this email trivia at the meader dot com.
- 3:41Speaker 1: If I have you go back and listen to an
- 3:43Speaker 1: episode and figure out the winner and who got what right,
- 3:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna march over to our merch room. I'm gonna
- 3:47Speaker 1: grab you a box. It may have binoculars, and it
- 3:49Speaker 1: may have a T shirt, it may have a water bottle,
- 3:50Speaker 1: and I'm gonna send that to you for helping me
- 3:53Speaker 1: a peece Steve and get everybody's score and the just
- 4:00Speaker 1: send the email there, well we'll figure it out. I
- 4:02Speaker 1: think Peter always send one in or the subject line
- 4:05Speaker 1: to Spencer Consucker. You're saying Spencer, You're not gonna do
- 4:09Speaker 1: it by game, You're gonna do it by question. We
- 4:13Speaker 1: will go by question. We'll get SATs like Broody averages
- 4:16Speaker 1: five point seven, right, Yanni's averages six point three. We're
- 4:20Speaker 1: gonna if we're gonna do this is gonna look like
- 4:22Speaker 1: a baseball box score when we're done. We have to
- 4:25Speaker 1: know which player is good at which vertical too, like
- 4:27Speaker 1: Yanni's like sent in conservation. Wow, yea yeah, yeah, that'd
- 4:32Speaker 1: give people like they could have a whole show where
- 4:34Speaker 1: people put suits on and argue about the trivia sent
- 4:38Speaker 1: right this this I am. I'm certainly going to need
- 4:42Speaker 1: listener help. Now email Spencer can suck it to Trivia
- 4:48Speaker 1: the Media dot Com and it'll be helping. It'll be
- 4:52Speaker 1: to help Spencer. That's right. Now, we have some housekeeping
- 4:54Speaker 1: to get to. On a previous episode of Trivia, you
- 4:57Speaker 1: our guests may not know this, but I named Missouri
- 4:59Speaker 1: is having the greatest game agency logo in America. Well, recently,
- 5:05Speaker 1: you point you made that that wasn't like a tribute
- 5:07Speaker 1: questions as you saying that it was a trivia question.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I declared it the greatest game agency logan. Then I
- 5:12Speaker 1: showed it to the room and you guys had to
- 5:14Speaker 1: figure out what stated. Yeah, but you were just clarifying
- 5:17Speaker 1: that you wouldn't ask a trivia question like who has
- 5:19Speaker 1: the greatest You were just observant, correct. Yep. Now we
- 5:22Speaker 1: had Missouri Department of Conservation District Supervisor Lieutenant Kevin Eulinger
- 5:28Speaker 1: reached out and thanked us for that declaration. He said
- 5:31Speaker 1: it brought him a real sense of pride, and as
- 5:33Speaker 1: a token of his appreciation, he sent us ten logo
- 5:36Speaker 1: patches that were worn by Missouri Conservation officers in the
- 5:40Speaker 1: line of duty. Thank you, Kevin. Now, the real cool
- 5:44Speaker 1: thing about these patches is that not only do they
- 5:47Speaker 1: look good like it's a digital file, but when you
- 5:50Speaker 1: put them on a T shirt as a as a
- 5:52Speaker 1: patch that someone wears, it looks just as good. There.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Not everything translates well from digital to the physical world,
- 6:00Speaker 1: but these look amazing. So are one of these for
- 6:05Speaker 1: brand among or take a lighter and kind of burn dark.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Steve's gone dark. So thank you, Kevin. Also, on a
- 6:16Speaker 1: previous episode of Trivia, I asked what the five countries
- 6:19Speaker 1: are that have polar bears. A few folks into this again,
- 6:22Speaker 1: we got we got another thing to address here. A
- 6:24Speaker 1: few folks in the doom said Antarctica, which is incorrect
- 6:27Speaker 1: because it's not a country and it doesn't have bears. Now,
- 6:30Speaker 1: this inspired about five people to write in and point
- 6:33Speaker 1: out that the name Antarctica actually translates to no bears.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Here's what they mean. The name Arctic comes from the
- 6:41Speaker 1: Greek word arctos, which means bear, and the ant at
- 6:45Speaker 1: the beginning of Antarctica is supposed to be anti, as
- 6:48Speaker 1: in the opposite of so Antarctica means the opposite of
- 6:52Speaker 1: the land of bear. Now, the explorers who named it
- 6:56Speaker 1: that weren't referring to physical bears like polar bears, but
- 6:59Speaker 1: instead they were talking about the Great and Little Bear constellations,
- 7:03Speaker 1: which are only visible from the northern hemisphere. So although
- 7:07Speaker 1: they were talking about space bears, it actually works with
- 7:10Speaker 1: polar bears as well. And now you'll always remember that
- 7:14Speaker 1: neither one exists in Antarctica. Um, I don't remember this.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I was probably very excited about having gotten it right.
- 7:21Speaker 1: But are you talking to that people in this room
- 7:24Speaker 1: put down the Antarctica has polar bears. I'm telling you
- 7:28Speaker 1: that people did that, and then you even Shad, we
- 7:33Speaker 1: have one. We have one person. That's fine. We also
- 7:37Speaker 1: had a couple of our guests at the time, Cam
- 7:40Speaker 1: and Rihanna that said that because I would have to
- 7:44Speaker 1: go HR would have to pay these people a visit. Grin.
- 7:52Speaker 1: All right, let's keep moving and with that we are
- 7:54Speaker 1: onto Meeta to Trivia, play the drop Phil, Look, I
- 8:00Speaker 1: need to know what I stand to win everything? How
- 8:04Speaker 1: sad just tend to win everything? Game? On Suckers Question one,
- 8:16Speaker 1: the topic is conservation and as always it is multiple choice.
- 8:20Speaker 1: This first great question comes to us via Derek Stamy.
- 8:23Speaker 1: If you have a question you think is right from
- 8:24Speaker 1: media to trivia, send it to Trivia to the mediator
- 8:27Speaker 1: dot com. Which of these is not one of the
- 8:31Speaker 1: five tools of wildlife management listed in the nineteen forty
- 8:35Speaker 1: nine book A Sand County Almanac. Oh, I'm back up,
- 8:38Speaker 1: said it again? Which of these is not one of
- 8:42Speaker 1: the five tools of wildlife management listed in the nineteen
- 8:46Speaker 1: forty nine book A Sand County Almanac? Is it ax, cow,
- 8:52Speaker 1: water or gun? Which is not one of the five
- 8:57Speaker 1: tools of wildlife management in a Sad and County Almanac? Again,
- 9:01Speaker 1: your choices are ax, cow, water, or gun. So three
- 9:07Speaker 1: of those are a tool, and one of them is not.
- 9:14Speaker 1: How I feel about this one, Steve fifty fifty Mmm,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I'm feeling fifty fifty two. I got a little I
- 9:21Speaker 1: got a little trivia for you. Spencer. Okay, what year
- 9:24Speaker 1: was most of that book written? Well, I would say
- 9:28Speaker 1: nineteen forty five, and I was written the twenties. Wow,
- 9:31Speaker 1: why didn't come out until so much later? It was
- 9:33Speaker 1: all it was, basically, it's his collected writing. How many
- 9:38Speaker 1: folcations over years and years? How many folks in the
- 9:41Speaker 1: room I've read that book? Wow? Okay, you never read
- 9:46Speaker 1: that book. I read the book. Give me a break.
- 9:50Speaker 1: So about eighty percent of the folks? All right, does
- 9:51Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal the answer?
- 9:54Speaker 1: We have Steve saying cow, Sean saying X, Brandon saying cow,
- 9:58Speaker 1: Brad saying cow, Brody saying how, Krin saying gun, Phil
- 10:02Speaker 1: saying gun, and Yanni saying cow. Now all the every
- 10:05Speaker 1: other word, every three words, Leopold uses the axe. The
- 10:12Speaker 1: correct answer, which nobody got water. Here is Leopold's famous
- 10:22Speaker 1: quote from the book. The central thesis of game management
- 10:26Speaker 1: is this game can be restored by the creative use
- 10:30Speaker 1: of these same tools which have HERETO four destroyed it ax, plow, cow, fire,
- 10:37Speaker 1: and gun. So we never mentioned water. I don't know
- 10:41Speaker 1: if we've ever had an offer on the first question
- 10:43Speaker 1: before multiple choice. I remember I remember going Anyone's game.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I remember someone was talking about desert Uh. Someone was
- 10:53Speaker 1: talking about desert big Horn recovery, and he said he
- 10:57Speaker 1: was saying, usually while they're recovering the as it comes
- 11:00Speaker 1: down to water and money, and he's talking about a
- 11:03Speaker 1: certain spot, but he goes in this spot, it's just water.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So they have the money, they need water. Question to
- 11:11Speaker 1: the topic is fishing. This type of rig, which is
- 11:15Speaker 1: popular among bass anglers, is a finesse fishing style that
- 11:19Speaker 1: involves hooking a soft plastic through the middle of the body.
- 11:25Speaker 1: This type of rig, which is popular among bass anglers,
- 11:29Speaker 1: is a finesse fishing style that involves hooking a soft
- 11:33Speaker 1: plastic through the middle of the body. Did you know
- 11:35Speaker 1: that he was a He was a He used to
- 11:38Speaker 1: be a competitive bass fisherman who did Brad. Yeah. I
- 11:43Speaker 1: felt as though, are Missouri folks, there probably some bass
- 11:46Speaker 1: anglers that may have a good chance. Yeah, he'll tailor
- 11:49Speaker 1: he'll throw you like not two bones, but he might
- 11:51Speaker 1: throw you a bone. I like that. I can handle it.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? We had some quick answers there, Yeah,
- 11:57Speaker 1: I quite cockily. Okay, I've even fish this rig, but
- 12:01Speaker 1: I can't remember for sure. Again, Brod, he's looking at
- 12:04Speaker 1: me like I was staring at me. This type of
- 12:08Speaker 1: crag small mouth on that lake by your old house,
- 12:11Speaker 1: which is popular. No, don't touch your board. Does everybody
- 12:19Speaker 1: have an answer? Let's go go ahead and reveal. We
- 12:21Speaker 1: have Steve saying whacky, Sean saying whacky, wacky, whacky, Brody
- 12:25Speaker 1: saying sinko. What are you saying? Karan without an answer,
- 12:29Speaker 1: Phil saying jig Yanni saying Carolina, I'm ahead of bro
- 12:33Speaker 1: he cracked. Answer is whacky or Nico sinko is not correct,
- 12:36Speaker 1: But a sinko worm is what we would traditionally use
- 12:39Speaker 1: on a wacky rig. So you were on the right
- 12:43Speaker 1: last time we play it. Bro you were ahead of
- 12:45Speaker 1: me early and I whooped you. Going back to just
- 12:49Speaker 1: not talking about it too like. Usually a wacky rig
- 12:55Speaker 1: is fished without weight senko with the sanko, but you
- 13:00Speaker 1: can also use it with a creature bait or any
- 13:02Speaker 1: the other stuff. Isn't sink like a it's a specific product. Yeah,
- 13:06Speaker 1: that's like Gary, Yeah, yeah, m yes he made those now,
- 13:10Speaker 1: Whacky or Nico usually a wacky rigs fish without weight,
- 13:14Speaker 1: making it the ideal set up for catching shallow bass
- 13:16Speaker 1: near docks and weed lines. And because wacky rig baits
- 13:19Speaker 1: have so much action on their own, they require very
- 13:21Speaker 1: little rod movement to get bites. Now, is that what
- 13:25Speaker 1: Janie was referring to that you used on the lake? No,
- 13:27Speaker 1: he's thinking of what's that call where you got the
- 13:29Speaker 1: hook tied directly into the main line. He was talking
- 13:32Speaker 1: about drop shotting. I'm impressed you got like such a
- 13:36Speaker 1: hardcore bass question, right, dude. I guarantee, I guarantee I've
- 13:42Speaker 1: caught more largemouth bass than you have. That's fine question
- 13:48Speaker 1: a large mouth bass lake, that's great. The topic is conservation.
- 13:54Speaker 1: The extinct Dodo bird was only found on one island
- 13:58Speaker 1: in what ocean? Again, the extinct dodo bird is only
- 14:04Speaker 1: found on one island in what ocean? Karin, how do
- 14:07Speaker 1: you feel about this one? Since you have the trophy
- 14:09Speaker 1: game piece that has a Dodo bird on it. I'm
- 14:13Speaker 1: not quite sure. Okay, not totally sure. One more time,
- 14:19Speaker 1: the extinct Dodo bird was only found on one island
- 14:22Speaker 1: in what ocean? Does anybody know this? Or is everybody's
- 14:26Speaker 1: taken a guess? Yes, I can't remember the name of
- 14:32Speaker 1: the island and I don't know where it was. That
- 14:36Speaker 1: makes it tough. Well, I thought long and hard, and
- 14:39Speaker 1: I have an answer that I'm not embarrassed by. Does
- 14:41Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 14:44Speaker 1: We have Steve saying Atlantic, Sean saying Atlantic, Brandon saying Indian,
- 14:49Speaker 1: Brad sang Pacific, Brodie sang Indian, Karn saying not a
- 14:55Speaker 1: lot of ghosts, Phil saying Pacific. In Yana saying Indian.
- 14:59Speaker 1: The correct answer is Indian. Oh, a few people get
- 15:04Speaker 1: it right. I thought you had to give an island. No, no, no,
- 15:06Speaker 1: we're just looking brody. Ties are up. The species was
- 15:12Speaker 1: discovered by sailors about six hundred miles east of Madagascar
- 15:16Speaker 1: in fifteen oh seven. In less than two hundred years later,
- 15:19Speaker 1: the last dodo died. They were driven to extinction through overharvesting,
- 15:23Speaker 1: habitat loss, and the presence of invasive species like rats
- 15:27Speaker 1: and pigs. That's another one where my homunculus knew because
- 15:32Speaker 1: there was like a voice, a voice somewhere in my
- 15:35Speaker 1: body was like, I was like, how's the Atlantic? It
- 15:40Speaker 1: just looks like a more like a warm, colder weather bird.
- 15:43Speaker 1: When I look at him, I wonder if you can
- 15:44Speaker 1: call him in not anymore? No, so I didn't see ship.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Question for the topic is biology, and this question comes
- 15:57Speaker 1: to is via Brandon coal Gazer. You have a question
- 16:00Speaker 1: you think is right from meat Eater Trivia, Send it
- 16:02Speaker 1: to trivia at the meat eater dot com. Besides whales,
- 16:06Speaker 1: there are only two animals with ivory in North America?
- 16:09Speaker 1: What are they? Besides wales? There are only two animals
- 16:15Speaker 1: with ivory in North America? What are they? We need
- 16:20Speaker 1: both animals? Oh, both of them. I feel like there
- 16:26Speaker 1: should be one of Dude, I've got questions about I'll
- 16:29Speaker 1: get either a lot of folks thinking hard, like a
- 16:36Speaker 1: trick element to it. Yeah, besides whales, there are only
- 16:42Speaker 1: two animals with ivory in North America? What are they?
- 16:48Speaker 1: I want to ask a question, but it just can't.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Wouldn't You wouldn't answer it anyway? Because can I confer
- 16:57Speaker 1: with you outside from now? With you? You can you
- 17:01Speaker 1: can ask Brody, you can ask your question and I'll
- 17:03Speaker 1: tell you I'm not gonna tell you anything, or you
- 17:05Speaker 1: could just not ask yours. I feel like I'd give
- 17:07Speaker 1: too much away by it. I can't. I can't do.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? And I'm gonna be mad
- 17:14Speaker 1: if I'm leaving what I had. I'm leaving what I had,
- 17:18Speaker 1: so if I'm wrong, I could be like, but I'm
- 17:21Speaker 1: kind of rightous. Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 17:25Speaker 1: have Steve saying Walris and elk, Sean saying elk, Brandon
- 17:29Speaker 1: saying elk and the Ivory build Woodpecker, Brad saying Walris
- 17:33Speaker 1: and elk, Brody saying Walris and elk, Corin saying elk
- 17:36Speaker 1: and narwhal which is a whale? Phil saying elk and Walris,
- 17:40Speaker 1: and Janna saying Walris and elk. The correct answer is
- 17:44Speaker 1: elk and Walris. You guys did very well. What about
- 17:48Speaker 1: the narwal that's a whale. Yeah, that's why I am
- 17:51Speaker 1: and whale wales. God, I never listened the whole question.
- 17:57Speaker 1: It was literally the first two words sides whales. Yeah,
- 18:01Speaker 1: there are only two miss a lot by talking there is.
- 18:06Speaker 1: That's why I wanted to confer with him to be like,
- 18:09Speaker 1: how nitpicky are you being out? What's a whale? Yeah?
- 18:12Speaker 1: Other animals with ivory include elephants, hippos, narwalls, Orca's sperm whales,
- 18:17Speaker 1: and ward hogs, But thanks to a twenty sixteen US
- 18:20Speaker 1: Fish and Wildlife Service law, it is now actually harder
- 18:23Speaker 1: to buy ivory from any of those animals than it
- 18:26Speaker 1: is to buy ivory from an extinct mastodon. If you
- 18:30Speaker 1: go on eBay and you're trying to like buy ivory,
- 18:32Speaker 1: you can find all sorts listing for like mastodon, but
- 18:35Speaker 1: nothing from those old other criters. Do you know that? Um?
- 18:38Speaker 1: I have? I want to go find out what's up
- 18:41Speaker 1: with it? But I talk about the dagger my dad
- 18:43Speaker 1: brought back from World War Two that you got in
- 18:44Speaker 1: North Africa. That's way cool. It's got a big ivory
- 18:47Speaker 1: handle on it, and I think you can you can
- 18:50Speaker 1: still like barter with those or sell them. It's pre
- 18:52Speaker 1: nineteen seventy two, which is old. But I just want
- 18:56Speaker 1: someone to look at it and see if they can
- 18:57Speaker 1: tell what kind of ivory it is. Those enough of
- 19:00Speaker 1: a deal where he brought it home with him. He's
- 19:01Speaker 1: trying to bring a Tommy gun home. But couldn't Maybe
- 19:06Speaker 1: that question five. We'll get a scoreboard update from Phil
- 19:09Speaker 1: after this. The topic is public lands. In twenty nineteen,
- 19:15Speaker 1: bush Light did a promotion where they gave a lifetime
- 19:17Speaker 1: supply of beer to someone who found their pop up
- 19:20Speaker 1: bar in the Mark Twain National Forest, which is located
- 19:24Speaker 1: in what state? Again, in twenty nineteen, bush Light did
- 19:28Speaker 1: a promotion where they gave a lifetime supply of beer
- 19:31Speaker 1: to someone who found their pop up bar in Mark
- 19:33Speaker 1: Twain National Forest, which is located in what state? Can
- 19:40Speaker 1: I get a bonus point if I know what his
- 19:41Speaker 1: real name was? Noll know Phi? Philli gets a bonus point?
- 19:48Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Brody, yep, where do you
- 19:51Speaker 1: got by just staring at my answer hoping it's right?
- 19:54Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying Missouri,
- 19:57Speaker 1: Sean saying Missouri, Missouri, Missouri, Missouri, Krant saying Arkansas, Phil
- 20:01Speaker 1: saying Missouri, and Yana saying Missouri. The correct answer is Missouri.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I know somebody that went to it. Yeah, you know
- 20:07Speaker 1: what I think? If I can name what town he
- 20:11Speaker 1: was born and I get a point, you can tell
- 20:13Speaker 1: us the name, but we will not give you a point.
- 20:17Speaker 1: What was it, Hannibal, Missouri, Hannibal. That promotion was a
- 20:21Speaker 1: disaster because apparently Bush only planned for a few hundred
- 20:24Speaker 1: fans to show up, but got a few thousand instead.
- 20:27Speaker 1: One person I interviewed back in twenty nineteen told me
- 20:30Speaker 1: that they took a vacation day and drove fourteen hours
- 20:32Speaker 1: to find the bar, and when they did, all they
- 20:36Speaker 1: got was one single warm beer. Another attendee I talked
- 20:40Speaker 1: to you said they saw someone pass out from heatstroke
- 20:42Speaker 1: on the hike there. But the good news is this
- 20:44Speaker 1: Bush ended up planning thousands of trees and donating thousands
- 20:47Speaker 1: of dollars to the National Forest Foundation. So cheers to them. Now,
- 20:51Speaker 1: did you guys attend that at all? I know somebody
- 20:53Speaker 1: that did. And what was exactly what you said it was?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Everything was gone by the time people got there. Brad
- 21:00Speaker 1: tried to corner cross his way in there. You didn't
- 21:04Speaker 1: go because it was a straight line. Yeah, right, but
- 21:06Speaker 1: no corners. Phil, here's with this for board update. Yes,
- 21:09Speaker 1: we have a Corinne in third place with eight or
- 21:13Speaker 1: zero points excuse me, eight tied for second place. We
- 21:16Speaker 1: have Phil and Seawn of two points, and then tied
- 21:19Speaker 1: for first five people. We Brad, Brandon, Brody, Janis and
- 21:24Speaker 1: Steve halfway through the game of trivia. Wow, this happened
- 21:29Speaker 1: to us last time we played, but winter emerged. Question six.
- 21:44Speaker 1: The topic is foraging. This next great question comes to
- 21:47Speaker 1: us via Dave Kalishek. If you have a question you
- 21:50Speaker 1: think is right from meat Eat to Trivia, send it
- 21:52Speaker 1: to Trivia to mediator dot com. Ostrich ferns produce edible
- 21:57Speaker 1: fronds that are more commonly known as what Ostrich Ferns
- 22:03Speaker 1: like the bird in ostrich. Ostrich ferns produce edible fronds
- 22:08Speaker 1: that are more commonly known as what Steve you should
- 22:13Speaker 1: pay Spencer more. I've known Steve now for it's coming on.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm like a month or two away, and Spencer makes
- 22:20Speaker 1: I'm a mother or two away from knowing him for
- 22:22Speaker 1: ten years and working out with him for almost as
- 22:25Speaker 1: long ten years. No do you think you do? I mean, oh,
- 22:30Speaker 1: I'm saying, okay, yeah, keep going. I'm trying to think
- 22:34Speaker 1: right now. I know what it is. I know what
- 22:36Speaker 1: it is. I feel like, can you repeat it one more?
- 22:40Speaker 1: Distracting mestwer, I don't know, it's very important thought from
- 22:47Speaker 1: your honest, and then I'll repeat I know if I
- 22:49Speaker 1: can't remember honest is getting at the old stump Steve thing.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I think you guys gotta shut up all right one
- 22:59Speaker 1: more time. Ostrich ferns produce edible fronds that are more
- 23:03Speaker 1: commonly known as what that humunculus is working real hard
- 23:10Speaker 1: over here. I'm listening for him. Just doesn't it's under
- 23:18Speaker 1: the main me to find out. But I know what
- 23:22Speaker 1: it is. I've been with Steve through a lot of experiences.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Does everybody else have an answer? I'll save my comment
- 23:33Speaker 1: till afterward. You got it, Steve, go ahead and reveal
- 23:39Speaker 1: your answer. Steve doesn't have an answer, Sean doesn't have
- 23:41Speaker 1: an answer. Brandon saying, hey, Brody saying fiddleheads, Karin saying folix,
- 23:49Speaker 1: Phil saying Brussels sprouts, and Yanna saying fiddleheads. Correct answer
- 23:54Speaker 1: is fiddle heads or fiddleheads are sweet and crisp making
- 24:00Speaker 1: I'm a great option for saute or roasting. If you
- 24:02Speaker 1: want to learn how to cook them and find them,
- 24:04Speaker 1: then check out our article at the media dot Com
- 24:07Speaker 1: called four delicious plants you can forage in spring. You
- 24:10Speaker 1: gotta cook him right then make you sick. If you don't,
- 24:14Speaker 1: I to know that, but I would imagine you'd want
- 24:16Speaker 1: to cook them anyway. Now, you honest, you had something
- 24:18Speaker 1: very very very important. More Like, I've seen Steve through
- 24:24Speaker 1: a lot of highs and a lot of lows over
- 24:26Speaker 1: the last ten years, and even through like I would
- 24:30Speaker 1: watching Steve played trivia, he's as happy as killing a
- 24:33Speaker 1: two hundred in buck, as happy as having like brand
- 24:37Speaker 1: newborn babies around. Wow. Yeah, seriously, he's so excited. Was
- 24:43Speaker 1: he this happy when we were just recording for three
- 24:45Speaker 1: hours talking about Corner Across at all? And he's not
- 24:50Speaker 1: even winning? Run to question seven. The topic is nature.
- 24:57Speaker 1: This person who has more than twenty plants and animals
- 25:00Speaker 1: named after him narrated the documentaries Planet Earth and Blue Planet. Again,
- 25:08Speaker 1: this person who has more than twenty plants and animals
- 25:11Speaker 1: named after him narrated the documentaries Planet Earth and Blue Planet.
- 25:21Speaker 1: You know what, I complain about him all the time? Okay,
- 25:28Speaker 1: I think that he should hang it up. They should
- 25:29Speaker 1: let somebody else take crash at it one more time.
- 25:32Speaker 1: This person who has more than twenty plants and animals
- 25:34Speaker 1: named after him narrated the documentaries Planet Earth and Blue Planet.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer. Steve is doing some more writing.
- 25:44Speaker 1: That was my initial bit of writing. Go ahead and
- 25:46Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Steve saying Sir Attenborough. Sean
- 25:50Speaker 1: sang Attenborough, Brandon saying Morgan Freeman, Brad saying, nah, he's
- 25:57Speaker 1: not right. Brody's saying Richard Attenborough, which is Attenborough's dad.
- 26:01Speaker 1: He's not right. I think it's his dad. Oh brother, Okay,
- 26:05Speaker 1: Karin saying David Attenborough, Phil saying Pekins, Brianna saying Attenborough.
- 26:10Speaker 1: The correct answer is David Attenborough had on because he's
- 26:16Speaker 1: Sir David. Broody is wrong. He is wrong. Yeah, just
- 26:23Speaker 1: Attenborough enough that that is acceptable in jeopardy. But last
- 26:29Speaker 1: name's not right. No, he's not right. If he gets Attenborough,
- 26:34Speaker 1: he gets that less more with less, all right, I've
- 26:40Speaker 1: had enough of this. His most recent documentary is the
- 26:46Speaker 1: five part series Prehistoric Planning on Apple TV. I binged
- 26:49Speaker 1: it last week and it's genuinely one of the greatest
- 26:52Speaker 1: things I've ever watched. If you're your family's even remotely
- 26:55Speaker 1: interested in dinosaurs, you need to watch this show. It's
- 26:59Speaker 1: so damn good. I took I did a little burned
- 27:01Speaker 1: out on that guy. You need to watch Phi where
- 27:04Speaker 1: you're like They're like, he's like wait, he very much
- 27:06Speaker 1: reads to the edit. You know, it's like a it's
- 27:08Speaker 1: like a whisper, like a whale shop whales. That drives
- 27:14Speaker 1: me a little bit nuts. I'd rather have my kid
- 27:16Speaker 1: narrate it. My kids like, oh my god, you should
- 27:22Speaker 1: watch Prehistoric Planning and just put it on mute and
- 27:24Speaker 1: then your kid can narrate it. That's good, dud. Question A.
- 27:28Speaker 1: The topic is fishing. Catagramus fish spend most of their
- 27:33Speaker 1: life in freshwater, but go to saltwater to spawn, and
- 27:36Speaker 1: there's only one catagramous fish in North America? What is it?
- 27:43Speaker 1: Catagramus fish spend most of their life in freshwater, but
- 27:47Speaker 1: they go to saltwater to spawn, and there's only one
- 27:50Speaker 1: of these fish in North America? What is it? Did
- 27:54Speaker 1: brod did you write cockily? Oh yeah, look like it,
- 27:57Speaker 1: but your mic was kind of I mean, but we're tides.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Your mic was blocking or Brad's no, sorry, Brandon's mike,
- 28:05Speaker 1: so I couldn't see if you're writing cockily. Just writing yep,
- 28:10Speaker 1: very cockily. Almost used all caps. He's got an exclamation point.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I want to know if for the next game. Any
- 28:18Speaker 1: you boys want to get in on a little Calcutta
- 28:20Speaker 1: before we start. Oh, I'll do a side bet any time,
- 28:24Speaker 1: every time. Alright, we should just have a like running pool.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I also think we should do an episode where like
- 28:32Speaker 1: like are you guys from me with the show Drunk History. Yeah,
- 28:34Speaker 1: we should do one of those. But for this you know, oh,
- 28:38Speaker 1: you've done drinking that involved us drinking? No, I mean
- 28:41Speaker 1: I do. I'd do it for that. There you go.
- 28:43Speaker 1: I just have Kylie schedule my hangover the next day
- 28:48Speaker 1: like Steve hangover. Yeah, but you need two days. You
- 28:53Speaker 1: need two days for a real hangover. Does everybody have
- 28:56Speaker 1: an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answer. We have
- 28:59Speaker 1: Steve saying American eel, Shane without an answer, Brand without
- 29:02Speaker 1: an answer, Brad saying the king salmon, Brody saying the
- 29:05Speaker 1: American eel, Krin saying shinook salmon fill without an answer,
- 29:09Speaker 1: and Yanni saying American eel. The correct answer is American eel.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Is janis winning. We'll get a scoreboard up date. In
- 29:16Speaker 1: a second catadrumus fish makes some of the most extreme
- 29:20Speaker 1: migrations in the animal Kingdom. The best example is an
- 29:23Speaker 1: American eel that was caught in southern Minnesota in twenty seventeen.
- 29:27Speaker 1: For that fish to end up there, she likely made
- 29:29Speaker 1: a four thousand mile journey from where she was born
- 29:32Speaker 1: in the Atlantic Ocean. There they spawn in the Sargasso Sea,
- 29:38Speaker 1: and it's a FreeCast egg just drifts and turns into
- 29:42Speaker 1: like a thing called the elver, and that drifts around
- 29:45Speaker 1: eventually hits big enough for locomotion in the halls and
- 29:48Speaker 1: coas of the American coast. The most idea around of
- 29:51Speaker 1: listing them because they're doing pretty badly in some areas. Yeah,
- 29:55Speaker 1: one of the most mysterious spawners. But I'll just still
- 29:58Speaker 1: know like very little about how the whole thing works.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Phil hit us with a scoreboard update. We have two
- 30:03Speaker 1: questions left. We do We have Karin Schneider with one point,
- 30:07Speaker 1: Phil with two points, and then tied for third place,
- 30:10Speaker 1: we have Brad, Brandon and Sean all with three points.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Tied for second place, we have Brody and Steve and
- 30:16Speaker 1: in first places. How many six points? Six? How many questions?
- 30:23Speaker 1: We got two questions left? Boy, the topic is cooking.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Oh Yanni, this is pretty good. Cook Spoon University said,
- 30:33Speaker 1: Mexico's most popular sandwich is best described as if a
- 30:38Speaker 1: taco and HOGI got married and had a baby. What
- 30:41Speaker 1: is it again? Spoon University said, Mexico's most popular sandwich
- 30:48Speaker 1: is best described as if a taco and HOGI got
- 30:51Speaker 1: married and had a baby. What is it? Jannie? You
- 30:57Speaker 1: seem confident that taco truck all the time? Which taco chuck?
- 31:03Speaker 1: You like? They don't have it there anymore. I don't
- 31:06Speaker 1: know where they moved to. That red one that was
- 31:08Speaker 1: saw the other day. It's on seventh. They moved it
- 31:11Speaker 1: over to seventh. Do a good business, top notch? Brodie,
- 31:17Speaker 1: How are you feeling about this one? Not great? But
- 31:19Speaker 1: I think I have a shot. Steve, how you feeling
- 31:22Speaker 1: about this one? Man? I ate one not long ago? Yeah,
- 31:27Speaker 1: I can't remember. What's I mean? I kind of got it,
- 31:32Speaker 1: I can't. I can't even tell you what meat you
- 31:35Speaker 1: had on? Yeah, that's gonna give a lot of tip
- 31:39Speaker 1: one more time. This is Mexico's most popular sandwich, and
- 31:42Speaker 1: it's best described as if a taco and HOGI got
- 31:44Speaker 1: married and had a baby. I'm writing my letters, so
- 31:47Speaker 1: you can't really tell it, they say, so I could
- 31:50Speaker 1: argue a variety of like things here man. Does everybody
- 31:52Speaker 1: have an answer? Oh, Steve is scribbled, he is he raised,
- 31:58Speaker 1: He's thought of something else else. Go ahead and reveal
- 32:02Speaker 1: your answers. We have Steve saying what does it say?
- 32:04Speaker 1: Saving in the mic. I think it's like something like SOPA's,
- 32:07Speaker 1: but I had teutopas said Silva's Brandon sang Chilupa, Brad
- 32:12Speaker 1: sang Chikaren sang Burrow, Phil saying a peanut, butter and jelly,
- 32:19Speaker 1: and Yana saying a torta. The correct answer is torta.
- 32:22Speaker 1: All right, there's no catching him. Now if you want to,
- 32:28Speaker 1: you can catch them. I could. I hope you catch them.
- 32:30Speaker 1: If you want a great recipe for a torta, we
- 32:32Speaker 1: actually have two of them on the meadeta dot com.
- 32:34Speaker 1: There is a mountain goat torta from Chef Kevin Gillespie
- 32:37Speaker 1: that uses any meat on the planet, avocado and caeso,
- 32:41Speaker 1: and a fish torta from Chef Lucas Leaf that uses
- 32:44Speaker 1: refried beans, pickled halapinos, and chipotle mayo. Now I'll give
- 32:49Speaker 1: you a hot too. Let's hear it. Uh, we're making
- 32:52Speaker 1: those refried beans. You should never buy refried beans. You
- 32:56Speaker 1: buy the pinto beans, get some bar oil or oil.
- 33:01Speaker 1: We haven't these barrel which is cool. Nothing takes a difference.
- 33:04Speaker 1: But and then just mash your own beans up in
- 33:07Speaker 1: your own oil. It's so much better and so easy. Yeah,
- 33:13Speaker 1: both of those recipes explain how to do that in detail.
- 33:17Speaker 1: It's easy. I can't win something done. Question ten. We
- 33:22Speaker 1: have Brody and Jannie left. Now. What we need happen
- 33:25Speaker 1: to happen to go to overtime is for Yannis to
- 33:27Speaker 1: get it wrong and Brody to get it right. Is
- 33:30Speaker 1: that right? That's correct? The topic is hunting or Yanni's
- 33:34Speaker 1: only got two career wins. Y'all didn't really start playing
- 33:38Speaker 1: until two weeks ago. I'm rude. I'm kind of pulling
- 33:41Speaker 1: for Yanni because Brody's like my nemesis and everything. According
- 33:45Speaker 1: to Boone and Crockett America's Top ten Biggest Canada Moose,
- 33:50Speaker 1: we're all killed in two states. Name one of them.
- 33:56Speaker 1: According to Boone and Crockett America's top ten Biggest Canada Moose,
- 34:01Speaker 1: we're all killed in two states. Name one of them,
- 34:08Speaker 1: ze Ze, Yeah, that is how you feeling all the
- 34:14Speaker 1: way back there in third place. Yeah, that's how you
- 34:17Speaker 1: feeling pretty good, pretty good. We need him feel worse
- 34:23Speaker 1: than that, Brodie, how you feeling well? I'm confused by
- 34:25Speaker 1: the question. There's nothing confusing about the question. That's weird.
- 34:28Speaker 1: I'm confused that you're confused. That's easy for you to
- 34:31Speaker 1: say because you're not gonna win anyone. I'll read it
- 34:34Speaker 1: one more time, Brodie. According to Boone and Crockett, America's
- 34:38Speaker 1: top ten biggest Canada moose, we're all killed in two states.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Just it was me not listening again, name one of them?
- 34:47Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? I look at them out
- 34:51Speaker 1: a lot of writing from Brody. When you read my answer,
- 34:53Speaker 1: can you say competing for second place? Okay, go ahead
- 34:57Speaker 1: and rebel your answer is competing for second place. Steve
- 34:59Speaker 1: says Maine. Sean says Alaska, Brandon says Alaska, Brand says Alaska.
- 35:04Speaker 1: He says Montana, Crin says North Dakota, Phil says Alaska,
- 35:09Speaker 1: and Yannis says Maine. He's right, The correct answer is
- 35:12Speaker 1: Minnesota and Maine. So nice, well done. Yes, would you
- 35:19Speaker 1: get eight correct? That was an authoritative victory. Yeah. I
- 35:24Speaker 1: just read a thing about how they in a portion
- 35:28Speaker 1: of Montana like they're they were confused as of whether
- 35:32Speaker 1: the moose were Shiris moose or Canada moose in northeastern Montana. Wow,
- 35:39Speaker 1: good job. Yeah, Yanni's third career win. Thank you, thank
- 35:42Speaker 1: you done. Don't forget it. I want to picture with
- 35:45Speaker 1: my with the trophy him and as I'm taking a
- 35:48Speaker 1: little uh peg, I'll peg out and put mine in.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I want to give it to Howell dot org. Howell
- 35:56Speaker 1: dot org. What do you like about Howell? I just
- 35:59Speaker 1: feel like they in the world right now where we're
- 36:04Speaker 1: getting hammered by so much like anti hunting stuff. Those
- 36:09Speaker 1: guys seem to have really simplified, like, hey, here's what's
- 36:13Speaker 1: going on, and here's how you can help out very easily,
- 36:17Speaker 1: Like I even will take the time, not always but
- 36:20Speaker 1: sometimes just followed the few clicks and links and going,
- 36:23Speaker 1: you know, send the letter to whoever they're wanting to
- 36:26Speaker 1: send it for. But it's just very simple and easy
- 36:29Speaker 1: to follow along with, um uh you know the things
- 36:33Speaker 1: that are you know, coming against the hunting community. So
- 36:36Speaker 1: it's a nonprofit called Howell. Yeah. Now, Jannie, you have
- 36:39Speaker 1: really diversified your winning. I think every time you've won,
- 36:42Speaker 1: you've given to somebody else. Yeah, And is that bad. No,
- 36:47Speaker 1: that's great, keep it up. Well done. Well, thank you ladies,
- 36:51Speaker 1: Jon two away from the Perfect Game, Brandon, Brad, Phil,
- 36:57Speaker 1: thank you guys for joining us. Next time we'll have
- 37:01Speaker 1: more media or trivia, the only game show where conservation
- 37:04Speaker 1: always wins. If I had remembered Fiddlehead, would it be
- 37:08Speaker 1: a showdown? Right now? I can't remember how that's how
- 37:15Speaker 1: sure I lost fair and square,
