Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: time for the 49ers rush podcast.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: and here's your host, John Chapman.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_02]: What is going on, faithful coming to you live from Melbourne?
- 0:38[SPEAKER_02]: We are back in the the mother ship recording in the hotel room.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_02]: You can see the city behind me.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I'm pumped, guys.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_02]: NFL season is upon us.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_02]: You've got the Eagles game, you know, I'm sorry, the Seahawks game, taking place very, very soon.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_02]: 49ers play here in just a couple of days.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_02]: And it's our first inaugural kind of preview, scouting report, predictions, bets, you name it.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: This was the flagship the initial show that I did in season was like, okay, this is what we're going to do.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_02]: And for those of you that haven't been with us,
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: me and it whenever I first got into coaching back in Texas, like I was the scouting report time.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: And so you know, it worked my way up through whatever coach that dunkedville.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, I was one of the guys that would get the scouting report.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'd go watch another team play and I just had all these things that I had to fill out in the answer.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: You know, best player on the opposing team, what's their warm-up like, where they're biggest weaknesses, where can we exploit what do we need to watch out for, you know, any tendencies, all that kind of stuff.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: And so, did that for a few years?
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: Thankfully, got promoted out of that one.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of works my way up to eventually being a head coach, not a dunkle deal, but it's so whenever I started this podcast, it was like, man,
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: You know, this scouting report, understanding, going through tape, going through film, and filling out a lot of the same questions answers that I used to do as a coach.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_02]: And just so just bringing that over, we do that with the film on the 4000 trash.com and our Patreon and so the scouting reports as well.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: So, this is our most long-winded show.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: If you have not been with us before, I have to say thank you to Josh 49ers Josh, he's the best there is.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: We've got a 10 page Google Doc together.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: Just a preview of this show going through what they did last year.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: We can exploit, scheme, schematic tendencies, play calling tendencies.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: vulnerabilities, strengths, all these different things, all three phases, and we kind of combine film analytics, personnel, injury reports, all those different things.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: So the goal is whenever you walk away from the show today, you're going to be able to watch the game and say, oh,
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's what they're doing here, and this is what they cannot have happened.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: If this keeps happening, this is bad for the 40 diners.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: If this keeps happening, this is good for the 40 diners.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: So, just kind of a peak behind trying to understand what's happening in the game itself.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: Look at this, my man coming in big, thank you so much, Tray.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'll also see him mad in the picture there.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for the super chat.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_02]: It says, good day.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: saw up in on the report Achilles also just wanted to say you're living the dream and you're one of the good ones go Niners, Math says, what's up, Math?
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, Math is a freaking legend.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so we'll get to the full injury report up to that was a full participant.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_02]: It was listed as an Achilles which the Achilles calf kind of back of the foot is all kind of lumped into
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: But the fact that he was a full participant, that is huge.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: And so as we get into the season, and we get into these mandated practice reports, you're paying attention to several key factors.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: One, did not practice is the most important.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: There's did not practice limited full.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: They're used to be probable and blah, no, no, it's so simple now.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: Didn't practice limited full.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: There's only three categories now.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: And so what you want to pay attention to is back to back missed practices, that is huge, especially now does not apply, I'm about to go all back to the future here.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: The first practice and second practice or the traditional Wednesday Thursday practices are the most important.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: So whenever you get a player that misses a Wednesday and a Thursday practice or the first and second practice leading up to the game, that raises the alarm bells stereotypically,
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the caveat is the experience veterans, your Christian McAfrey's, your Kyle use checks, your Trent Williams, your Nick Bosa's, your Fred Warner's, your Drake Green laws, which this team has in spades.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: But with the younger guys up in Stout, Renardo Green, Carver Willis, Grace and Halton, you know, your first second, even third year players, don't traditionally overcome that.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't think that that's going to be applying to the 49ers this week against the Rams does apply to the Rams against the 49ers.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: They're in to report and in case you have missed it, Aaron Toddle does not only not claim and he was a limited practice participant.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: He's not coming.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: You stay your ass and all the United States, my friend.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: You are not coming out here.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: So major, major good news.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_02]: That is great.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: So we've talked about on this show, how.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: strong likelihood he would not be playing week one week two.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: But now it is official.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm out of the Rams mouth themselves.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: So that is huge.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: But my overall concern for up and sell very, very minimal of the fact that he got a full practice in on the very first day.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely love that absolute love that they appreciate all the chat.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: You guys are awesome.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: If yeah, I don't know if you guys saw this.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: We posted this on our socials.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: Probably need to get posted
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: box local news over in the Bay Area for bringing all these people over in party and and stuff.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_02]: That was really, really cool.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's been really, really
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: Awesome, just the love and do we're having a blast out here and it's not lost on me down the luckiest person in the world that I get to do this and the only reason why I get to do this is because if if you're watching this right now, thank you.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: This is here 10 of the 49th George podcast.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: This was never the goal.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_02]: This was never, I'm going to feed my family with this.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: This was never whatever.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_02]: you guys are incredible and generous and gracious and part of the community and I cannot say thank you enough.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: I really, really can't.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: And so Joel, who's here with us from the Philippines, my man, he says, do we have the interior port of the rent?
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: Man, let's just
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: This is notorious for us because we work so hard on this sheet and it's tid pages and I've never I don't think once completed a show just sticking to the order we have so for those keeping track at home I'm just going to scroll down to page six and that's where we're going to start today.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: The Rams entry report is out.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers and the Rams had to officially.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's a timeline based release.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: You have to follow and comply.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: Here is the Rams first official injury report.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: Now go over the Niners immediately afterwards.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: Limited practice, Aaron Donald, not coming, not playing.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: Lucas not only injury report, he is 100% playing, he is not getting suspended.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: Adam Shepter talked about that.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: So, Lucas gonna be out there 100%.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_02]: Did not practice, these are the very first practice.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: Miles Garrett, he is not practiced in months.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: months longer than the post and the post is back already.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_02]: I do expect Miles Garrett to play though.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: He does fall into the category of, this guy doesn't have to practice too much, defensive end is one of the easiest.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_02]: to just plug and play in the NFL and Miles Garrett, you know, decade long player in the NFL, like he's got to figure it out, he will play.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: You're hoping he's on a pitch count, snap count, whatever else.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: Tyler Hink, he's starting tight in.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_02]: Did not practice, not injury related.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to kind of plug that in there too.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: So it's not like he's overcoming something.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: He's physically capable.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: No clue what's going on off the field.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: I am not a rams, whatever.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: A large Jackson, not injury-related.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: He, again, multiple arrests, domestic abuse, not being suspended yet.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see, Brian Young, not injury-related, did not practice either.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: One of their best past wrestlers and it's kind of that,
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he is the identical player to Ramello height.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: He was as advertised.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: Your Hoping Ramello height is Bironia.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_02]: That's what you're hoping for.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: And then probably the most intriguing to me, outside of the Aaron Donald Miles Garrett, Jalen Watson, the corner that everybody knows about Trent McDuffie and the trade bringing him over from Kansas City.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: You also brought over Jalen Watson, the opposite corner, the outside corner from the cheese.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_02]: He has not practiced.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: He's got toe.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: Furners with toe issues, man, planting, all that stuff.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's the number one thing that I pay an attention to in the coming days, whenever the new Rams injury report comes out.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: If Jalen Watson misses
- 9:54[SPEAKER_02]: The next full practice report, that is alarming, because the Rams are not a depth team.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: This is a starter that they signed in free agency to come over very similar to kind of that char various word, you know, moved at the 49ers made when they brought him in.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like they signed him to come in and be an outside starter.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: Period, he's not their number one corner.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Trent and the Slot slash outs outside.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: Janet Watson's their number two corner and it's not close.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_02]: So that is one of the things that I think is huge.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: That's the Rams injury report.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers injury report is longer, but much more positive.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: Upt and stout full participant.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: This is the limited section, okay?
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: All of these players I'm about to list for the 49ers were limited.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_02]: Meaning they didn't complete the entire practice.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: Usually that means they don't do the team contract, contact place.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: Nick Bosa, Alfred Collins, Luke Gifford, Renardo Green, Drake Green Law, Grayson Halton, Ramelo Hight, Juice, George Kittle, almost all of those are positives, Alfred Collins, not a positive, Grayson Halton, not a positive, Ramelo Hight, not a positive.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: The older players,
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: Again, Renardo Green was a candidate to end up on IR design agency return.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: The fact that he's logging practices is huge, so that's huge.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: Nick Boses, that's great.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: Luke Gifford, first practices of this entire.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: OTA's mini camp off season preseason whatever doubt he's going to be playing week one, but it's possible.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's a vet.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: He knows the system.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_02]: He's been in it.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: You just put them out there in special teams, right?
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: That's probably what all the 49 fans won.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: And so in James Thompson.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: That one kind of hurts a little bit more than most.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: because we were excited and past rush is what the 49ers need.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_02]: He's the past rush, kind of specialist from the inside, but you got Grayson Halton.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: So you needed one of those guys.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so the fact that you've got two out of three of your rookie past rush,
- 11:58[SPEAKER_02]: defensive lineman.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: You got grace and halting back practice and you've got Romero height back practice and you lost James Thompson Jr. who made it all the way through OTA's mini camp training camp preseason just got banged up.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: So you get two out of three there.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: I do not anticipate James Thompson Jr. probably playing.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's going to be a scratch.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think Jordan walkins is going to be a scratch.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think
- 12:22[SPEAKER_02]: The gift for it's going to be a scratch.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think Curtis Roach's going to be a scratch.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: And so then you're looking at like one or two more players, one of the offensive linemen probably and reakeek crews probably going to be a scratch of a dairy and low.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: He's practicing out there.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_02]: So that's huge.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: So you can kind of already make out the inactive list for the 49ers and again, just off the top of my, this is into my notes.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'd say Jordan what you have to get six.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan Walkins, Luke Gifford, Enrique Cruz.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_02]: One of the linemen, one of the interior linemen, maybe.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_02]: Um, might be Carver Willis to be honest.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know about that one.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_02]: That one.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to hold.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: He might be out there because special teams.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: But he hasn't practiced much.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see how that goes.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: But pay attention to those names.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to see a lot of those names come up because you've got to have those healthy scratch scratches.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, that's where it is.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: What is, uh, all the hydrovillapondo, the legend man.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_02]: Captain, uh, I hope this doesn't have said anybody.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_02]: He says, can you eat kangaroo meat there?
- 13:34[SPEAKER_02]: The answer is yes.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: The answer is yes, I did.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm from Texas.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_02]: I have no qualms with eating extravagant, uh, pieces of meat.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's gaming.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: It is gamey.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_02]: Some of the little upset, but a win-row man, win-in-row.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, we were talking, we were doing like a whole tour throughout the city and bright beach, which was awesome yesterday.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yesterday was a wonderful day.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm still exhausted.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: still completely exhausted.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: I got barely got six hours sleep last night, which is way better than what I've been doing.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: I have not been able to catch up from being up 37 hours straight.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: And like this is the way my body always reacts during football season like stress and events and whatever struggle with sleep, no matter what I take.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: But so I'm still a mess.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: We have now been here over 48 hours.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_02]: blown in, played, flown out in the time I've been here and 48 hours.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: They're entire trip we're taking place in that.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: I am still not normal and I would argue never been normal.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_02]: Rams, uh, it's what it is, man, and it is what it is.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, so do with that.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: Look at this.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: No, what's up with it.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: John, my man, you look vital despite all the beers.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm on vacation in Thailand, dude.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: Have a blast, my friend.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_02]: Gonna watch the game with my breakfast.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: Can't wait for life football.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, I did.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Jo, I was with the guy.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: I saw King Guru and I was done look.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, dude, yes, you had to all crazy.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: I got like,
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: My hardcore espresso coffee, which yesterday that probably didn't help either.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_02]: The coffee was so good.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_02]: I had like three of them on the tour.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: They're all set out as a freaking jittery.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like, uh, oh, this ain't normal coffee that you should get back home.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I love it.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, look at this, Peter, what's up, man?
- 15:24[SPEAKER_02]: I live in Melbourne, been listening to you for years.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_02]: I can't wait to share beer with you tomorrow.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, that is why we do it, my friend.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: Love it, love it, love it, love it.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's a sin of my worker home early, can't bloody weight.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so if you're in Melbourne,
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: Local or not, we're gonna be at the Duke of Wellington.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_02]: The oldest hotel in Melbourne, which is converted into an awesome awesome restaurant.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: We rented out pretty much the entire freaking thing.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna be up on the third floor from two to six tomorrow, the day before the game.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: And then our tailgate, which is up right now, starting at seven a.m. baby, drink and beers on the beach.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_02]: Why not right next to the stadium, say the answers beach bar.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: Those tickets are up now.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: They are going to sell out.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: They are going to sell out 49ers rush road trip.com 49ers rush road trip.com go get your tickets you can try to show up and I hope you do and I hope we can get everybody in but only fits a few hundred people and man I love it the turnout's been amazing okay our 16 minutes into this I haven't even
- 16:37[SPEAKER_02]: The Rams 40 vitres, both starting the season, no wins, no losses, you got to love it.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: Aaron Donald's back, and not so fast, my friends.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_02]: The honorable Lee course of, and not so fast.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_02]: This is turned into, and again, had to hat the old hats here, the hate for the Rams continues to grow in the 40 dives fan base,
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: I've never considered the Rams the threat.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: They're same old, sorry, S Rams.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: Haven't really, you even like to show on turf was just a blip.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, it was incredible, but they were in St. Louis.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_02]: They weren't amnoxious, whatever else.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_02]: They just abandoned cities over and over and over again.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: Then they trade all of their draft picks.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_02]: The FM picks, less need, you know, all that stuff.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_02]: They get their championship.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks to Kwaski Tart.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_02]: Um, thanks to the refs that phantom P.I.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_02]: call against the Bengals in Super Bowl, but whatever.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_02]: They get it.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: And now the hate for the Rams in the McVay shenan.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's one of the best rivalries in the NFL.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: I love that aspect of it.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: They've got an elite offense and defensive unit.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like they had the best offense in the NFL last year.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: They trade for the defensive player the year.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_02]: You get Aaron Donald back, not in this game.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_02]: But like they're good.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_02]: They finished 12 and 5, the exact same record as the 49ers.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: But ahead of us, which was a good thing because we got a third place, the edge of they got a second place schedule.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: So that's three games a year that knocks a little benefit for the 49ers.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_02]: But
- 18:10[SPEAKER_02]: similar seasons last year, both lost to the Seattle Seahawks given they were the Rams way more healthy, shocker, they are every single year.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_02]: They lost the Seahawks, we got blown out by the Seahawks.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: So that was there.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: But the Rams have and will continue to be one of the most top heavy rosters in the NFL.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_02]: Now, McVay and his voodoo magic has been able to keep the Rams one of the healthiest teams in the NFL since 2017.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: One year he was not a top 10 healthy team.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't make the playoffs.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_02]: Every other year there are top 10 healthy team year and year out.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: That's what is the one year they have it.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_02]: Boom.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like, like, and that's one of the biggest differences.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_02]: between Shanahan and Xavier.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: Shanahan teams are never healthy.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: 49ers teams are never healthy.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: Not since they moved from candlestick.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: You've had one healthy year for the 49ers since he's been here.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: They made it to the Super Bowl in 2023.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's the only year in the 10-year span that Kyle Shanahan's been here.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_02]: You've had a top 10 healthy team.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: McVase had it nine out of 10 years, right?
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: So you can dive into substation whatever I don't care.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_02]: The results are what the results are.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_02]: Shanahan can do way more with less.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: McVay, and what makes him so special, he adapts to the talent around him better than anybody in the NFL.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, and again, Shanahan, this is the system and the system works.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: The answers are built into the system.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_02]: We're not changing it.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: McVay,
- 19:36[SPEAKER_02]: starts off his first year in the Rams and he's doing 12-21 personnel because he's part of the Shanahan coaching tree and he looks over the very first training camp and he's like, dude, why is Cooper Cup on the sidelines for 70% of our plays?
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: This rookie is special.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_02]: We're changing everything.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to 11 personnel.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: The rest is kind of history with that movement.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: Now you plug Pook into that role.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then last year, man, all their wide receivers are hurt, all their
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: whatever.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_02]: So what do they do against the 49ers is where the movement started 13 personnel, one back three tight ends, only one wide receiver out there.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_02]: The whole NFL catches onto it.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_02]: Rams do it the same day or the Cardinals do it the next week to the night as well.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_02]: Robert saw a can't catch up.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_02]: And then you get to the draft this year and you've got all these second round tight ends with fifth round grades.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody's just tied in Renaissance, which is beautiful.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: They've very started that.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: but different approaches to what they have around them.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_02]: Cheneyans, much more of this scheme works, we're gonna build the answers into the scheme to counter.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_02]: McVey is, we're gonna change up personnel, we're gonna change up everything, we're reinventing everything all the time.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: So two different approaches there.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think either one is wrong, I think.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the, the athletic puts out, you know, where they interview team execs and defense of coordinators and ask them to rank play callers.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: Shanahan was number one again, back to back years.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_02]: He's the number one guy that throws fits for defensive coordinators.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: McVay was number two.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_02]: dare the best of the best and different but same different but still same.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully somebody got that one.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_02]: All right Scott, what's up man?
- 21:22[SPEAKER_02]: Appreciate the super chat.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: ESPN Australia had a stream.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_02]: They mentioned the 49er traveled the best in the international team.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_02]: I commented John Chapman's the 49er's Rush play a big role.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_02]: I got mentioned by the host.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for what you do.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: Man Scott, thank you for what you do.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: Did, thank you, man.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: Love you, guys.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_02]: God, leave it.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's so cool like the amount of positivity and outpouring that comes when people just get together for whatever reason.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't give it to him.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: Like it could be anything.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: But when humans get together from different backgrounds and break bread, have beer, talk, share stories, go on experiences together, something magical happens.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_02]: And again,
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: The only reason why I would love to do this is because of you watching this right now, and so I just want to say thank you very, very much.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_02]: You guys are freaking one of one, and I love it.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: Now Matthew Stafford has to be talked about.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: He is the second oldest quarterback in the NFL.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: He was in hyperbolic chambers and stuff last off season.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_02]: His back, he couldn't make it through one practice, whatever else, goes on in the MVP season.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think it should have been Drake May, but that's okay, hard for me to crown NVP when you have the best wide receiving corn in the NFL and best play collar.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, hold another story.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_02]: Matt's new step for was amazing.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely deserving of the MVP, I don't think he was the most deserving.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: Unbelievable here.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: Is that going to continue?
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: The reality is, Stafford is a play away from being done.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: Not that I want that to happen.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: I hate him.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: I can't stay at about these horrible person.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't like him.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't like his wife.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_02]: I remember watching him play in high school in Texas.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: You know, at baseball, hitting Kershaw, like when two game live, I was like, dude, these guys are unreal.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_02]: And they're still playing.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: They're amazing.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_02]: What is that going to look like?
- 23:24[SPEAKER_02]: Is he going to continue to put up MVP numbers?
- 23:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think if he's healthy, the offensive line is the top 10 unit overall.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: They invested big time the last two off seasons ago and three off seasons ago and the offensive line is paid dividends.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: They have a great ranking.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: They have five tight ends that are very, very capable.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like their tight end room is stacked.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: They don't have all pro or pro ball type tight ends.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_02]: But they have five legitimate tight ends.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: I am comfortable saying, and this is going to hurt my feelings.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go toast, I love you.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: If you had to stack to 49ers, tight ends in the Rams tight ends, it would go George Kittle 1, all 5 Rams tight ends, Jake Tonchis.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_02]: Jake Tonchis is awesome.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's not a knock on him.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: The Rams just have invested a lot of draft capital in the tight end position because they'd use 12 and 13 personnel.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_02]: And I expect him to do that again, because when the 49ers are
- 24:21[SPEAKER_02]: You're keeping up to install on the sideline.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: You're not going to be in nickel as a defense.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to be in a fourth or three.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: So you're going to have the rookie jade and Doug about there.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: That's one of the matchups I want to see.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: Kyle Shanahan is going to go after their linebackers.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: Shot and advanced.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: Going to go after our rookie linebacker jade and Doug or who I expect to start.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: I expect to start.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, let's up now.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate you, man.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much for the Super Chat.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_02]: You definitely bring people together, J.C. More fans here than so far, dude.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: It is.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's awesome.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's so awesome because you're walking around the street and there's Niners fans everywhere.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_02]: And then you'll see a Rans fan every now and then.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a Where's Waldo puzzle.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: And they're like, oh, look, it's almost like if you saw a kangaroo.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like, oh, look, there's a kangaroo.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, oh, look, you're seeing one of these things that don't exist in the world.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_02]: Look at it.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: It's a raresp fit.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_02]: And then you're like, oh, no, they're just wearing a blue shirt.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: They're not really wearing a fan.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: But there are some.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_02]: There's a few of them.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: And they are magical creatures.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, like, I am one of those people.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: I love opposing fans.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: And like, shout out to the two Rams fans that came out here, like, that's crazy.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go across the world to a Rams game, and there's one other of me.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's easy for us because you have family community everywhere, you go if you're not your same.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_02]: But imagine being a Rams fan, you're on the back of the old gardens.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you're not a real thing.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: And so like, you know, we're going to go see platypus is those are more believable, then ramps fans in Australia.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, do with that, what you will do with that, what you will.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's get through the top five offensive players.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: This is kind of a summary of last year based and politically.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_02]: The top five offense of players based on PFF grades, do with this what you will, but it's a non-biased snapshot on a snap or snap facious basis how they impact the games.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_02]: Pook and Akua was first among wide receivers, 96 grade, Matthew Stafford, first among quarter packs, 92 grade, Kevin Dodson, their guard, who they paid a lot for, 87 grade, Kyron Williams,
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: 85, they have two very good, Blake Quorum, Kiren Williams, two very good running backs.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: You want to see them both.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_02]: And they're going to be closer to kind of a 60, 40 split, 70, 30 split, whereas the 40 van is going to be Christian Kaffrey, 20 snaps, two snaps for whoever the running back to is.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: We shall find out.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: Devontae Adams.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: just scoring touchdowns red zones.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: And what's crazy to me is to volunteer.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so my Kevin's same draft class and now they're planning against each other all these years later.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_02]: They're top five defensive players by far my favorite player on the ramps.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: Pune a forward.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: One of the most unsung players in the NFL.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_02]: he was awesome with Seattle.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: I remember I did the draft thing.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_02]: I had a fourth round great on him.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_02]: He goes undrafted.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember who it was.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_02]: Probably nobody watching live.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like Chad and you know what to tell you, talking about Puno Ford.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_02]: You had a fourth round great.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_02]: He goes undrafted.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, I think they were wrong on this guy.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_02]: he's by far one of the best run stuffy defensive tackles in the NFL.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: He was their highest rated defense player.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_02]: Byron Young, he's their second the edge rusher who did not practice, did not practice personal reasons.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: Kobe Turner, another defensive tackle and it's like Aaron dollars not playing.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, congratulations.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_02]: They still got Puna Ford and Kobe Turner.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, Kobe Turner, he is the player responsible for giving Dominic Pune his not only his worst game, his top two worst games of his entire career so far.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: Man, you say, well, it's only been two years, but in the four games they played the Rams, he's had two adequate games and two Pittsburgh games.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: Kobe Turner is a difference maker.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_02]: Their D line is unbelievable.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_02]: Cameron Curl, they're safety and Cameron Kitchens, they're other safety.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: They've got great safety.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: They've got great defensive line.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_02]: They have horrible linebackers.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: Their corners are good because they pay for them and trade it for them.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: But they're number two corners not practicing.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_02]: So that's important.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: Now, what's up, man?
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: Love this.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: Do appreciate you.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_02]: But not hurt.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much for the super chat you're the man.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_02]: John, I love watching you with your awesome knowledge of football and with our Niners again.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_02]: You are very, and it's it.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, man.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_02]: We've only done 1,700 shows, we're still improving.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_02]: We got a ways to go.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_02]: But if anything comes across, hopefully it is passionate.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_02]: I am a fan, I am a fan, I am a fan.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_02]: Not a beat reporter, I'm not an insider.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_02]: Not gonna be those.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm a former coach.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_02]: So hopefully the knowledge comes across too.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_02]: Call defense has been a head coach, been a play caller, done those things.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_02]: And hopefully we bring that to the stream.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully it's passion, positivity, community, with the little knowledge sprinkled in there.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_02]: Do the little salt thing, right?
- 29:12[SPEAKER_02]: There we go.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_02]: Scott, back at it, Nant thank you, brother.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_02]: Is it true that the MCG field is painted for Rams and the signage says Rams House, why does that piss me off so much?
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: So this is a Rams home game.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: When the NFL went to 17 games, because it's not even, it was eight and eight.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_02]: And so whatever there's a ramps home game and so the idea was they were going to build this in and so now you can do these international games because you still get your eight allocated home games.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_02]: That's the idea.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_02]: So this is a rams game.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_02]: So the rams are going to like all the cheering and all the stuff on the announcements and whatever else.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like they're going to do the Who's House, which is the funniest shit in the world because they've never had an advantage and fan base ever, anywhere they've been.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: So what happens when you crap on multiple cities?
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, this is a rams home game technically, even though just like sofai,
- 30:07[SPEAKER_02]: Not just going to be there.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_02]: The good news is, hopefully the NFL won't let the Rams pipe in noise like they do and so far through the speakers, but this is the Rams home game.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_02]: So it's going to be all the Rams, you know, stuff on the screen and cheering and whatever else, but everybody knows.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, that is what it is.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_02]: It is a Rams home game, but
- 30:31[SPEAKER_02]: We're all the way across the world, all the way across the world.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: Now, what's interesting?
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: is one of the approach and how these two teams are traveling to Australia, which we've talked about.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_02]: The second thing that's interesting is the plays at the games after.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: The Rams play the 49ers than the Giants than the Broncos than Philly than Buffalo.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_02]: They have a very, very touch touch stretch.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_02]: Giants not so much, but at Broncos at Eagles than home against Buffalo,
- 31:08[SPEAKER_02]: Man, at home versus Miami, at home versus Arizona, then at home versus Denver.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_02]: So you get this kind of two week blanket where I would argue you're playing two of the bottom three teams in the NFL and the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_02]: So it's something to look at, you know, for sure.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's something just to pay attention to.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: Now, if we step back,
- 31:34[SPEAKER_02]: and look at just the overall units and how they finished last year.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: This is a PFF collected grade offense defense special teams overall for the Rams and the 40 miners.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_02]: Really good, just snapshot of how they finished.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_02]: The Rams were bonkers, dude.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: First in defense, first in offense, 20 sticks in special teams that's their weakness.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_02]: First overall, they were the highest graded PFF team.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_02]: on a snap person at base is across the board like you could have made the argument a lot of people did the ramps were probably the best team football last year.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_02]: They don't win it all.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_02]: Their coach made a lot of mistakes and that's another thing like if I want to get on Shania in the Super Bowl you go watch that you know Sean McVeigh against Ciax and the Anderson championship to he cost them that game late.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_02]: one of the many things, but whatever.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: Now the 49ers, okay, they were second on offense, 30 itth on defense, how they won 12 games.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_02]: Like these two teams had the same record.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_02]: 30, it's on defense, second in special teams, 12 total overall from a PFS standpoint.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_02]: No doubt about it with all the injuries and the way the season went, the Rams, too.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: They had the MVP, they were awesome.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: They were awesome.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: Still beat them, took over time, it took over time, but still beat them.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's huge.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_02]: Now,
- 32:56[SPEAKER_02]: Once the game is over, obviously we're going to be here for one full day after the game.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying my heart is not to say days.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: We fly back to the states and we land before we take off.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_02]: Again, figure that out.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_02]: And as soon as I get back, hopefully I'm sure I'm not going to be able to sleep.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to crash for a little bit.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_02]: Then the film breakdowns happen.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_02]: Thankfully, we have 10 days before the second game, but if you want to learn more about football, if you want to support the show, if you want to increase your knowledge on anything, there's only one place to do it.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_03]: I paint until I really see the tape, but you gotta see the tape to really see what it looks like, but then I'll see it close from the film.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_04]: The things that we still take, the things that we require.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_03]: I hope you look the same on tape.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: Get better from the tape, but before we open up some good film on those guys, and we'll get to those things we get on the plane.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_02]: If the 49ers coaches and players have to watch the tape, what do you think you need to do?
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: Well, guess what?
- 33:52[SPEAKER_02]: We got the tape.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers rush.com and our Patreon channel, patreon.com slash 49ers rush.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_02]: podcast.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_02]: We have every offensive defense and special teams play outlined in all 22 and in zone coaches tape to go through and show you play by play, what this guy did wrong, what this guy did right, who was wrong, who was right all those things.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's way better than just grades or anything you got.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_02]: Trust me, once you sign up, you get it all.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_02]: Seven day free trial right now.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_02]: Plus we have monthly Zoom hangouts, we place our monthly bets, weekly bets, season long bets all on there.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: If you wanna be a better fan, you wanna understand football better, guess what?
- 34:30[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers rush.com is the place to go.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's dive into, we're changing some things up.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_02]: They had shout out to Josh.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_02]: He crushed it right here.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: Offensive line deep dive.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: This composite kind of view of the two teams, 49er's Rams, offensive line.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_02]: I believe in the trenches.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_02]: I think that that changes things.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_02]: And there are two very different views.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's both outside zone scheme, both these teams.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_02]: But the Rams have a huge line, 49er's one of the smallest in the NFL.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_02]: The average offensive line you average their five starters together for the Rams 64321.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, that is 15 pounds heavier per player times five.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's 75 pounds extra.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: Did I do that right 20.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think I did it right man.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_02]: Look at me.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it says this.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, that's kind of what they bring now.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_02]: The Rams last year allowed the fewest stacks in the NFL.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_02]: 49ers defensive line last year, fewest stacks in the NFL.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: Rams only allowed 23 stacks, 49ers only had 20 stacks all last year.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: Now, part of that is the offensive line.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_02]: Part of that is the way Sean McVay uses wide receiver plus blockers.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: What does that mean?
- 35:48[SPEAKER_02]: He goes after these wide receivers that are big body guys, Puka, Cooper Cup, Jordan Winnington to Vante Adams.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_02]: He does not like a lot of small wide receivers.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_02]: He will use them sometimes, but three tight ends out there.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_02]: That Puka's one of the best is not the best blocking wide receiver in the NFL.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_02]: Cooper Cup was before him.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: And John Jennings tight guys.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: that can block defensive ends, multiple tight ends that can super pass bro.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_02]: And then on top of all that you have Matthew Stafford, which I think his skill set, the thing that makes Matthew Stafford so dangerous, my least or most respected trade about him, how good he is first to blitz.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_02]: That is what separates him.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_02]: If you bring five or more guys against Matthew Stafford, you better get there pretty damn quick.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise, you are in a heap of trouble.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_02]: You combine all those things and guess what?
- 36:42[SPEAKER_02]: They're very good at not taking sex.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_02]: Very, very good.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: Now, they're not like the best out there ever.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_02]: You look at the collective grades.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_02]: A large Jackson, he was 11th PFF grade for his position.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_02]: Coleman Shelton 13.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's probably the weakness Kevin Dodson third out of 81 right guards and then you got Warren McClendon who's seven.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: He kind of shot up last year.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_02]: He came out of nowhere and was awesome.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_02]: 49ers allowed the fourth few effects offensive one.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: So it's not like they're, you know, horrible in and of their self.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_02]: Jake Brindle who's one of your weaknesses in the run game.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_02]: He's very good in past protection.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_02]: Brock Perty, he has the highest or the best is probably the better way to put it.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_02]: Pressure to sack ratio.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: He gets pressured all the time, but he makes people miss it in the back.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_02]: He only gets rid of the ball quick.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_02]: That quick release is awesome.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_02]: So don't expect a lot of sacks.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_02]: Who's gonna start at left cards for the 49 games?
- 37:44[SPEAKER_02]: I still think it's gonna be Connor Colby.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully there's a rotation there.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_02]: If Carver Willis starts, there's gonna be sacks.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: He's very poor in past bro, and he's going to be going up against some of the best defensive tackles in the NFL.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_02]: Even though Aaron Donald's out, who's going to start at left guard?
- 38:01[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to prioritize the run game?
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: You go Carver Willis.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to prioritize the past game?
- 38:06[SPEAKER_02]: Are kind of the balance approach to be cornered Colby?
- 38:10[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see there.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that the the cat that they trade for Jared Patterson is going to be heavy in the rotation.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's going to be kind of the back up learn.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see what happens.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_02]: Give him some more time.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_02]: But I could be wrong there.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: That is my own interpretation.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: already want a super bowl, already one coach of the year.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_02]: Amazing guy, I love listening to his press conferences.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: A little bit of American psycho kind of vibe to him and don't mean that in negative way, Patrick Bateman.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I should, but like he's got some of that kind of just like idiots of want, something's not right upstairs, but beyond kind, remembers everything, love his answers, just a little too over the top,
- 38:57[SPEAKER_02]: Um, he's seven and eleven for his career against Kyle Shannon, but he has one for the last five.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_02]: And so this this entire whatever back and forth between the Rams or McVay and Shannon in,
- 39:13[SPEAKER_02]: McVay came into a great team or much not great team, but better team and was winning right off the bat.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_02]: Shannon had to be rebuilt.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_02]: So McVay had it early.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: Shannon, hand in one against them in the middle.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_02]: Now it's kind of swinging back to McVay since they've gotten a Stafford.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: do with that, what you will.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_02]: And they've coached together.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_02]: They've been friends.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_02]: Offensive coordinator who doesn't call plays very similar to the 49ers make up Nate Skillhase, 35 years old, first time O.C., he's young, he's technically O.C., but he won't call plays.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_02]: He was on Iowa State's
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: staff with Brock pretty was there on a Matt Campbell.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_02]: So again, like it's kind of fun to look at this.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: It just see how they've gone.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_02]: Chris Shula, the defensive coordinator for the 49ers played at Miami of Ohio with McVay.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, he's a Shula team nepotism for the win, baby.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: He's part of that family.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_02]: He has been there for a while.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_02]: And he, where he Morris was the defensive coordinator over
- 40:15[SPEAKER_02]: Bring him more, it goes to becomes a head coach, Chris Shula steps into the vacated space.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_02]: So these are going to be two very similar defenses.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: Going to see a lot more odd fronts for the 49ers, a lot more, I'm sorry, odd fronts for the Rams, even fronts for the 49ers.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_02]: If you don't know what that means, 434, but they're all multiple now.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_02]: We've gone over the injury report.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_02]: Now these two teams hate each other.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_02]: And in all the divisional shuffles throughout the, you know, NFL's past, the Rams and 49ers have played each other continuously.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: The Niners have the lead, 79 wins to 72 with three ties, um, it's, it's interesting.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_02]: Now since 2019, the 49ers are 10 and five doubled them up, but Rams have won four
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see what that looks like.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: In the last time we played, it was bad.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_02]: Robert Salle, I got taken to the wood shed.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: I would argue probably his worst coaching game, all of last season.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_02]: Robert Salle struggles against elite play college quarterbacks.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: You lost 42 to 26.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: They put it on you.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_02]: Losing by 16's not great.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_02]: Matt Jones was the quarterback.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: Matt Stafford threw for four touchdowns.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_02]: Matt Jones threw for three.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: gave up a lot of rushing yards, 120 plus yards to their two backs, to want to add them when off, who couldn't cool it went off, their tight ends went off, like they could do anything that they wanted to.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_02]: It was bad.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_02]: Now, let's do kind of a quick deep dive looking into the unit rankings of the defense because they return a lot of the same players.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_02]: This is the Rand's defense,
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: This is kind of an EPA statistical analysis of how the Rams did last year.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's a different team.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: And as we go through these throughout the season, you get more data, you update the data.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_02]: We update it before every game.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's a lot of work, but it's a cool snapshot.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_02]: But this is week one.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_02]: So all you've got to go on is last year that same coordinators, a lot of the same start players.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_02]: So you take that away.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so the ramps defense, 10th and points a lot of 32 teams, 17th and yards.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's average.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_02]: Fourth and turnovers.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: They force a lot of turnovers.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_02]: You're adding miles care.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_02]: You're adding Trent McDuff.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_02]: You're adding Jalen Watson.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_02]: You're adding Aaron Donald eventually, even though he ain't played in here.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_02]: 19th and past touchdowns.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's why they win.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_02]: Got two corners.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: 12th in rush arts allowed first best in the NFL few is rushing touchdowns allowed They are a bin but don't break Fantio shell style defense okay a lot of cloud a lot of cover three a lot of cover six Keep it all in front of you that's what keep it in front of you get pressure keep it in front of you Similar to solid but a little bit more wave filled sprinkled in there if you want to get into the coaching history
- 43:09[SPEAKER_02]: But once they get into the red zone, it gets congested.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_02]: They don't play shell over the top because you can't the red zone, then it starts to get kind of tight.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: And they've done very well there.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers game plan is to establish the run.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: If Kyle Shananne can run the ball well, that's what they're going to do.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_02]: The Rams, if they could stop the run, it's going to be a mess for the 49ers.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'm telling you right now.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_02]: Um, dead is huge.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_02]: Now the Rams offense, this sucks.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_02]: First and points.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_02]: First in yards, fourth and turnovers.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_02]: These don't do it.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_02]: First and first downs, first in passing yards, first in passing touchdowns, third in yards per pass the tint, seventh and rush yards, 14th and rushing touchdowns, but you've got Stafford, Devante Adams, and Puka, they do not have qualms though in the ball in the red zone.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: six in yards per rush a tent, fifth and fourth downs, 17 and third downs.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_02]: That is the one metric that is below average.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_02]: They don't convert a lot of third downs.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_02]: To be honest, they don't get to a lot of third downs.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's how good this offense is.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: The $40 going to have a chance, third down is going to be one of the key metrics.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to be able to convert it a close rate, if not better rate, then the ramps do on third down and sustain drives.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_02]: If the four of them are just gonna sustain drives, that means they're getting their rush attempts.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: That means they're wearing down the ramps defensive line.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: That means they're controlling the clock.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to help out all across the board.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: That is huge.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_02]: So, ramps defense is getting into some x and o's,
- 44:48[SPEAKER_02]: 34 fancio style with the way he filled sprinkled in and Rahim Morris kind of came in and adopted that.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: And now it's on the Krishula.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_02]: They run the most dime packages in the NFL.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: Why?
- 45:03[SPEAKER_02]: They have arguably, I don't want to say, I didn't do a team by team analysis and rank their linebackers.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_02]: They're at bottom five linebacker team.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_02]: but they don't use linebackers.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: They're in nickel 425, 42% of the time, and they're in dime, one linebackers, six dBs, 32% of the time.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_02]: So that's 75%.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'll look at that.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, it's reasonable.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_02]: So 25% of the time to have two linebackers sets.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_02]: They don't ever really do base 20% of the time.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_02]: I misspoke while I go.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_02]: They only have three linebackers out there, 20% of the time, right?
- 45:42[SPEAKER_02]: Two linebackers, about 70% of the time, and then one linebacker out there for not very much.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_02]: So like that's huge.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_02]: They don't blitz a lot because they win with their four.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_02]: They keep everybody over top.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: The ram's offense, play action, play action, play action, play action.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_02]: 60% of their snaps are under center.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_02]: So you have to respect your run read.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: The reason why under center is such a big deal.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_02]: If you are a linebacker,
- 46:10[SPEAKER_02]: Your key, you have to wait.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_02]: Quarterbacks got a snap to ball, step back, two to three steps, play action, then turn around.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: You don't get your true pass key to get your pass step, five by seven outside on most zone drops for linebackers.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_02]: You don't get into that until two to three steps later versus shotgun.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_02]: Under center, you've got to kind of wait and just sit there and be patient until you get your true key.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_02]: Then you get there.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_02]: So that gives the offense, the wide receivers bigger passers zones against against don't coverage.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_02]: If you've got a quarterback that knows where the defense is going to be with their back turn to them, Brock pretty Mac Jones, Stafford's definitely in the class of his own out of those two.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_02]: huge advantage for the offense, and they do that all the time.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_02]: 62.8% pre-stant motion, not overly conservative.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_02]: We've got Fred Warner, that's not really a big deal.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the 13 personnel, they led the NFL in this.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_02]: This one running back three tight ends.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_02]: One, the first number is how many running backs.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_02]: The second number is how many tight ends, right?
- 47:14[SPEAKER_02]: 30% one out of every three snaps.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's no up to the stop.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's no up to the stop.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: They are an 11 person now or 13 person now.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_02]: They only run 12, 9% of the time.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_02]: So there's one time to enter three.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_02]: They're never two.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_02]: If you're going to do something, go all the way.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_02]: Niners, one of the few is 13 person health teams and it failed, do not expect that to change.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_02]: Do not expect that to change.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: do not expect that to change.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_02]: So the past run, Rams 52% past plays 43% run.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: They throw the ball a lot.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_02]: Last year, the 49ers, second most in Kyle Shanahan's tenure in his 10 years here couldn't get the run game going, Jake Brindle, left guard, didn't have tight instructions to fill vertically, teams crowded the boxes, 54.4% past last year for the 49ers.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_02]: Second most after the very first
- 48:13[SPEAKER_02]: They don't want to throw the ball.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_02]: Four airs want to run the ball, but this roster is built that if you can't run the ball and it looks like last year where you have its 3.8 yards per rush, not good.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_02]: You now have the wide receiver weapons to combat that.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_02]: You have my weapons.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_02]: You added to Sean Stripley.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_02]: Perks on IR, he'll be back eventually.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: You added depot.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_02]: Your three starting wide receivers have completely been overhauled.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_02]: in a positive way, in a positive way.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_02]: Now, because of the linebackers, I wanted to, and I talked about this the last show, I don't expect a lot of 11 personnel for the 49ers, which means to Sean Strippling is not gonna be getting a lot of snaps.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_02]: I expect a lot of 12 and 21, especially George Kiddles playing, which he is.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_02]: You want to keep their linebackers out there.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to give them the affordability to go to time and bring in another stud safety and take off a bad linebacker.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: Scan a hand goes after linebackers.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_02]: The Rams, they're going to try to do time and see how that does.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to try to do base and see how that does and gets 1221.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to force them if they're in time, you run the ball.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: And if they're in base, you throw the ball.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_02]: And these are the can, can, cause can, can.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's based off of the, how they're lining up and their personnel packages against the nitrogen when they come out and those have you personnel.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_02]: One of the things that you gotta keep watching.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_02]: So, vulnerabilities for both sides, the Rams, they gotta go after that left guard.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_02]: They've got to go after that left guard.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that that is huge, Jake Brindle, obviously.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_02]: They've had success against Dominique Pumi.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_02]: If you start Connor Colby at left guard, I expect to see a lot of stunts.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: If you start Carver Willis, I mean, it's on tape.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_02]: And you put it on tape.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_02]: You got a bull rush that dude.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_02]: You put Colby Turner on top of them.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_02]: He can't anchor.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_02]: And so let's see who is that left card.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_02]: I think they're going to see both of them.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_02]: Stunts against Connor Colby, scare me, bull rush against Carver Willis, scare me.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_02]: The tape says they can be exploited that way.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers, defensive tackles, man, too, well, they run too well.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_02]: Inside zone, you get this combo block off.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_02]: 40 matters, defensive tackles have not shown that they can anchor outside of also a Diggasewa period.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_02]: Grace and Halton has, but he only played one preseason game.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_02]: CJ West, Alfred Collins, one of those guys going to start, can they anchor?
- 50:41[SPEAKER_02]: Can they not get pushed back?
- 50:42[SPEAKER_02]: Can they play with good pad level?
- 50:44[SPEAKER_02]: These are the questions.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_02]: Safety's dear God.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_02]: I hear Brown has not put up good football tape in two consecutive seasons.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_02]: Ricky here is pretty solid.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_02]: Marky Seagull, I'm way less concerned about.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_02]: He's always where he needs to be.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_02]: He can tackle one of the best tacklers on the team.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_02]: He has top-end speed, but not a good safety room.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_02]: The same caveat that goes towards Sean and Ve in the Rams, not
- 51:10[SPEAKER_02]: taking advantage or carrying about the linebacker position, 49ers left garden safety, same conversation.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_02]: What should the 49ers do?
- 51:18[SPEAKER_02]: Go after the linebackers, man.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_02]: Omar Spate, Nate Landman, put their heads in a blender.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_02]: You want to go after them in the run game.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of B-gap, C-gap, stretch, quick toss, whatever.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_02]: Same motions with the play action after back, tied in lead, tied in cross, dig crossers.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_02]: Just go at the linebackers.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_02]: can't get third and long.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_02]: Stay ahead of the chains.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_02]: Second and seven is a good thing.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_02]: Third and four is a good thing.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_02]: These are the constant goal posts and stay ahead of the chains that allow you to do whatever it is you want.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_02]: Third down runs are a great thing.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_02]: Third and four runs are going to have success in this game.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_02]: Third and four runs for the 49ers offense.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_02]: You want to know what turns me on more than anything.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_02]: It is run in the ball and third down.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_02]: It third in the intermediate.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_02]: I absolutely, especially gets a group that will have four guys jetting up field.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_02]: There's going to be creases there with these linebackers.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_02]: Third and four run game.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_02]: John Chapman's going to be going crazy at the Melbourne Kirk at Gowns.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_02]: Uh-huh.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_02]: Quentin Lake, the Ramston Nickel player.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's the weakest member of their secondary.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_02]: Um, that's a good player, but he's the weakest and special teams.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_02]: Good gosh, man.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_02]: That's the biggest discrepancy in this game.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_02]: I think the 49ers have a top five special teams unit.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think the Ramms could be bottom two.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_02]: Hidden yardage.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers offense has to get one less first down per possession to get his core in position.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_02]: One less.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_02]: 49ers defense gets one more first down before the Rams offense gets into all because of Coralist Waitman, all because of Eddie Peniero, all because of guys like Serenil, right?
- 53:06[SPEAKER_02]: Luke Gifford if he plays, Tatum Betton if he plays.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_02]: You've got this elite specialty unit, Brent Boyer, changed everything, man.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, changed everything.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_02]: So, let's get into it is time.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_02]: I just posted our week one bets.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_02]: Those are up on the 49ers rush.com.

- 55:14[SPEAKER_02]: All right, our key's to victory, which we do three keys to victory for each team.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of times there is, you know, the NFL, especially whenever you have two teams that are predicated upon the run game as you do with the Rams, the first key to victory for both teams to establish the run control the clock.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_02]: You go back to the Rams blowing out the 49ers.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_02]: They rush for 120 plus yards.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_02]: You go back to the 49ers winning against the Rams in over time.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_02]: Lots of first down runs.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you get to that magical 28 Russia tint number.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_02]: Good things happen.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_02]: If you can run the ball and keep the opposing offense off the field.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_02]: Keep the opposing defense on the field.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_02]: Big play start to happen up as the game gets later and later.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_02]: So Rams 49ers, if you can establish the run, which is going to help out play action.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_02]: These are two of the best play action.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_02]: Run to establish teams.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_02]: That is huge.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_02]: Rams got to keep pretty from extending plays.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_02]: They want to rush and hit pretty a lot.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_02]: Broad, pretty outside.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_02]: You know, scrambling out and getting out.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_02]: You know, outside the pocket, that's dangerous.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_02]: They want to keep him inside.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's small, he's one of the shortest quarterbacks in the NFL, but they want to keep him contained inside.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_02]: That's what they want to do, and they want to make the 49ers go straight past heavy.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like, run the ball on offense if you're rims, make the 49ers pass the ball nonstop.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's what they want.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_02]: You keep this team guessing the rims, you can exploit the defense.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_02]: 49ers, man, you've got to run the ball.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to run the ball if you're on the win this game.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to be able to run the ball and just keep drives alive.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_02]: That's what the kind of caution in like president is.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_02]: Whenever you have those horrible games, like you can see here, so the Texans last year,
- 56:57[SPEAKER_02]: we just couldn't get first down to keep our drives out there to sustain and get the carries.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_02]: We need it.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_02]: That's what you always hear.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_02]: Cubeac, you always hear Shannon and you always hear Perty.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_02]: We just couldn't sustain drives.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_02]: When they get those eight, nine play drives, everything starts to just seamlessly come together and everything works.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_02]: When you miss those rush attempts and you just start passing on 30 longs,
- 57:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's where the three and out stack.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's where all those things go.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_02]: Attack the middle of the field, go after the linebackers, go after the linebackers, go after the linebackers, and get pressure on staff for somehow some way.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_02]: Can they do that?
- 57:32[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, I don't know.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_02]: We shall see.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_02]: You don't stop to run, you don't get pressure on staff or you don't win this game.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care how good your offense is.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_02]: I do think it's going to be, shout out to Shane, a little bit of a rocky ballbow at game.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's going to be close, it's a divisional game, it's week one, and like, and I put this in my betting, you know, notes online.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_02]: This is one of the most unpredictable games week one I can remember.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_02]: Once a divisional game, two were across the world, three of the travel plans of these two different teams.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_02]: You have all these new major key additions for both squads, incredible injury.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_02]: People not practice in going to play, not going to play.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's just weird.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_02]: divisional games I don't like.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_02]: Thursday games I don't like, and this is a Thursday Friday game across,
- 58:24[SPEAKER_02]: betting wise.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_02]: I like sustainability and like if you're a gambler, we want your thing.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't like gambling.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a Tony Gwyn better.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_02]: I like paying attention to the small wins and, you know, rounders like dude, I'm a grinder because I don't like losing money for me.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_02]: I don't make a lot and I sure as hell don't want people following my advice in losing.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_02]: That's why we've posted positive seven out of eight seasons.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_02]: Which I'm very proud of.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to make anybody rich, but man if we can post a weekly profit and keep stacking those up.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_02]: That is huge pay for your membership and then some that's huge for me week one.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_02]: This is scary asking.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_02]: Probably my favorite game bet of the week.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_02]: I did a two teams stacked teaser for six and a half points you add that on to the spread.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_02]: So 40 and I just get 10 and a half points.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_02]: So the 49ers can lose
- 59:18[SPEAKER_02]: by 10 or less, and we still get paid.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_02]: The chargers just have to beat the cartels by three and a half points.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think the cartels are very, very bad team.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think the chargers are very, very good team.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_02]: I've got 10 pets over there if you want to go check that out, that's up.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_02]: And it gets you to talk about how difficult a game this is.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's going to be close.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's going to be a fun, fun game back and forth.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_02]: Are they special teams or that left guard spot that that's going to determine the winner?
- 59:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's a matchup league and these two teams know each other inside now.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_02]: Can the 49ers mitigate the left guard spot?
- 59:55[SPEAKER_02]: This safety spot.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_02]: Can the Rams overcome poor special teams?
- 59:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure they can.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is going to be close.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_02]: I've got the 49ers win in this game 24 to 23 in the Rams missing the field goal as time expires.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's going to be a slug fest.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_02]: I have both teams scored over 20 and I think it's just going to be, it's going to be fun, man.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to give the Aussie something to see.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to give the Aussie something to see and they're going to fall in love with that even euro.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they love their kickers out here, bigger of the partners, but come on, any kick in Aussie's like, shout out to Josh, his wild prediction, his wild, but not so wild predict.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_02]: He thinks to Sean Stribling catches the very first $40 touchdown, which
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think strippling is going to get a lot of snacks, but once you're in the red zone, strippling is going to have his ass out there on the field.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_02]: That is the time.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see Mike Evans.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see the Sean strippling.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see the Marcus Robinson out there in the red zone.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_02]: Three, just great red zone space creators with size all power forwards.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see that.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so pumped to see that.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_02]: think it's going to be a freaking fun man.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_02]: This is awesome.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so pumped.
- 1:01:06[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, step in what's up, man.
- 1:01:07[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for the super chat.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_02]: Our run game would be number one if we trade for Nelson at left guard and with Carver Willis to center.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_02]: I do agree with that.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_02]: Um,
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_02]: Barbara Willis will be the eventual center next year.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's not ready to play center.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_02]: He would be a better fit at center, but I don't think he understands all the calls.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the Chris Forster Shanahan scheme, you learn guard for a year than move to center.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_02]: That's just what you do it.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's where he'll be eventually.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't trust him at center right now.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_02]: Jake Brindle, you could God trust him in pastbro.
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, you're right.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_02]: If you did those two things that would be huge one,
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_02]: The culture not trading Quentin Nelson right now.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_02]: If they trading Quentin Nelson, they would fire their general manager Chris Ballard who has a lot of good will in that community for some reason.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's a good guy is a terrible TM.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_02]: But they're not trading they're I mean, they just traded two first for a corner which we won the double straights ever they just paid you know a quarterback Daniel Jones would take this amount of money.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_02]: They're not.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_02]: selling.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_02]: Now, maybe the quotes will be selling later on this year, but they're not right now.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_02]: So like, I think you can call it off for a first round pick for Quentin else, and I don't think they take it.
- 1:02:19[SPEAKER_02]: This is the team that traded two first just last year, six months ago for sauce garden, which was so stupid.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think that the run game is going to be improved this year.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_02]: I really, really do, I really, really do.
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_02]: Right here, where do they run behind Trent or Colton and Pony?
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think you can run anywhere.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_02]: The A-Gap to the left side is going to be the biggest problem.
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to run behind Connor Colby and Jake Brindle.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_02]: If Carver Willis is there, I don't mind running there, but now past pros and issue.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_02]: But I think you call your, whatever you want.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_02]: Because the Rams will shoot up field.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_02]: You can do inside zoning and do outside crack toss.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_02]: You do outside toss.
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_02]: You can do your, you know, kind of gap stuff, which is there inside.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you're gonna be able to run the ball.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_02]: I do believe that.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_02]: Just gotta stay committed, get first stance.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_02]: Got to stay committed, get first downs.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think that that's a big deal.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_02]: Now, after the show, y'all've got, after the game, you guys got to join us.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be live from Melbourne, cricket ground.
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'll do a live show right there at the stadium, which you'll get to see what that's like and all that stuff.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_02]: So when the game is over, I need you to come back to this channel and for all my Spotify, you know,
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_02]: wherever you listen to your episodes, you gotta come join us live over on YouTube, or on Twitter, or on Twitch, will not be live on Instagram, can't do that from the mobile cell phone, whatever, but right as soon as the game's over, you got to jump over to our YouTube channel 49ers rush podcasts.

- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_02]: I need you to be with us for our first.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_02]: What's it going to be?

- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_02]: we will find out.
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_02]: We will find out.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think I'm going to be able to get a show in tomorrow.
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_02]: We're hosting that huge event.
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_02]: If you're in Melbourne, come up.
