- 0:00SPEAKER_01: It's let's stick together.
- 0:01SPEAKER_01: We are finally back.
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: It's season six, episode one, brought to you by Y1 Hockey.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Welcome back.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: We finally managed to uh get in a room together since December.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: It's now April the second, third.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: How are you guys?
- 0:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, pretty good.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: Uh although I am spending quite a lot of time with you at the moment, so you know.
- 0:39unknown: Good.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sorry, you uh yeah, good.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: It's bad for me.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm you know on the edge, but what are you gonna do?
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: You how are you?
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Let's not start on a negative.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Who gets more who gets more annoyed by who?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Is it Brendan with Phil or Phil with Brendan?
- 0:55SPEAKER_03: Uh it's definitely Phil by Brendan.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: Ah, okay.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: It kind of goes without saying, but yeah, okay.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: Phil has been pointing a lot of fingers this week and unfortunately losing.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: That that also sounds like Phil.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: That's vintage Phil.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's been solid.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: But you how are you?
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Before we get into who did who's done what, let's how are you?
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: I'm good.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I'm good.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Uh we uh just had just uh had training today again with national teams, started back up last week after a uh small uh hiatus, is what you guys call it, right?
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've I've learned the past three months I've studied English just for our listeners to to get even better, so they can understand me better.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Uh, but no, I'm good.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Can't complain.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And how are you, Philip?
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm pretty good.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: I did write down a few things because we we actually Brendan already put this out very, very um, he started strongly on social media.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: He said, What do you guys want to hear?
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: and our good friend um Flo Van Oble, he did he wanted a little recap from all of our lives.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: So before I ask you what you've done, I did I wrote that I wrote down the highlights of what I thought thought has happened.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: It's episode one, Brent.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have to roll with the punches here.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: That's fine.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: You went to South Africa twice.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: He also went to India for a month.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: He won a shootout, he was clutch and won a shootout for Holland.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Like wow.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Oh big time.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: We went to Oman and qualified for the Olympics.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Brendan went to the Maldives with Maddie.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: What a guy.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: And uh I started um joined the social bean, a coffee uh coffee company with uh good friends Chris Griffiths Jacob Draper and Dave Goodfield and my lovely wife.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: That was a very, very quick fire.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: You do you want to pick up any of them?
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Fuck me, we've been away for a long time, man.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: That's uh that's uh I I also didn't do a couple things, but um, yeah, it's been it's been a while.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: A lot a lot has happened.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Uh you also forgot that I also, but you we we went to Argentina.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: It's I think it was in December, or that's before we stopped.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: We didn't we did an episode there, didn't we?
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Ah, fair, yeah.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: But that was also this winter.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: So I've had a pretty I think I've spent two weeks at home in the past four months.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: That's how it felt.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Um, and now can finally talk with you guys about um what a shithole Hujera is.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Um because it's nothing, it doesn't deserve any more credit besides the stadium, besides like the the the the the the the the village we called a stadium, like and everything around which was the best I've ever seen.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: But besides that, it was complete and utter shit.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Uh it was uh it was a very uh uh uh busy summer, but uh winter, but I I enjoyed it.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: I've I have two questions.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: Number one, is it still as smoggy in Rokala?
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, we we we were first in Bhubaneshwa, and there you could look directly into the sun without sunglasses because that there was like smog in front.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: So I I got kind of used to it because I've spent uh what feels like half a lifetime there, but it was only a month.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: Uh and the second question is is it still genuinely just the village, like the little houses or apartments, whatever you want to call it, and the stadium, and then there's just nothing else still.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, a proper runway.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Uh still no, still.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Uh we we we went this time we went by bus.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: We flew through to I don't I don't know, another place.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: And don't don't I no clue what it's called, and then all the teams that went the same day with the same plane went by bus, which was like a two and a half hour drive, which was okay, like not gonna complain there.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I am gonna complain.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: It was fucking shit as well because it was like it was a bus and the roads are fucking dangerous there.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: And um I'm you the good thing is you're in a bus, so you can't look at the road, so you're not as worried, you just hope you'll you'll end up there.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, the village is just it's fucking it's it's it's disgusting to be honest.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: I just don't know it's a whole different topic, and we'll get into it probably later.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: But I don't know how you started really we started really positive and strong here, haven't we?
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, but I don't know how you expect people to to give a top performance when they have to lay on on what is a wooden table and they call it a bed.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Uh it's there's there's dust and there's dirt everywhere in your bathroom, everywhere.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Uh it's they did they did paint it, which uh it was all gray, I heard, and now they painted it.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: So good job by them.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: And how is you also went to South Africa?
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Ah, what a country.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: I have no clue if we have any South African listeners, probably not, but fuck me, that's a good country, man.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: They they they they they got lucky where they where where they are.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Fucking Cape Town is fucking beautiful with the with the ocean and with the table mountain and shit.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: And we had uh I first went to give some clarification.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: I first went on a holiday, which was planned a long, long time ago.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Then I came back, and uh eight days later I was again uh in the in the uh 12-hour flight to South Africa uh because we had a training uh camp there, and I didn't know we had a training camp when I booked well, we booked the flight to uh South Africa with my entire family.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: So uh yeah, I've seen a lot of South Africa and it's uh it's fucking amazing.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: I would recommend it to anyone who uh who can.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: And yeah, like you said, I mean, first of all, I should have said shout out to Flo uh Van Oble, like we're all on the same page.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: We want to do a little recap.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: We're also gonna talk, I'm sure, a little bit about him and his team uh later on.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: But also, you were you you you your own Del May, who's the Dutch men's national coach, must really like spending time with you because he thought we'll go to Argentina for a bit and then we'll chuck in a South Africa tip just before we go to India for a month.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, he must really enjoy enjoy uh your company.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I uh I don't know if he enjoys my company because a month I can imagine two weeks with Yub de Mall is already quite heavy, but a month with Yub de Mall, I can see people were getting and could get annoyed by um the amount of energy and possess I bring.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Um but I was rooming with Floss Wuttebuch.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Uh like uh uh I don't know if he's an avid listener anymore, but like he probably forgets, but like that we even have a podcast.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: But he was a guest.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: And at the end of the two and a half week Rukhela, um it was good that it was only two and a half weeks in Rukkela because I don't know if we would be friends by now if it was any longer.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: And Brendan, just on to you.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, like I mentioned, we we qualify for the Olympics, but more importantly, you went on holiday to the Maldives.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Um, because suddenly you've you've got cash from somewhere, we just need to know where.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: And you thought, well, let's go to the Maldives and let's let's lap it up in one of them fancy, fancy houses that go on to over the sea.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: How is that?
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, first holiday with Maddie in what four years, so yeah, pretty nice holiday.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, it was lovely.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, I I don't think I'll ever go on a holiday like it.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: It was genuinely unbelievable.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: Um, but it was one of them where probably similar to you, where it's like it's the one chance you can basically have a holiday between now and the Olympics.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: So I was like, I've got to take this opportunity and go.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: Um, and thankfully did go.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, we brushed over Oman.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: Oman was different, wasn't it?
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, true, true.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, we qualify for the Olympics.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: We can do a very brief rundown.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Um, was was was was amazing country.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: I would recommend it to anyone.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's so for some winter sun.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: I really enjoyed it.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: I would say we were staying in an amazing hotel.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: They put together a really cool hockey setup, um, and you know, we were treated really nicely.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, everything was perfect apart from the fact that no one cares about hockey in Oman.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Um, since no one watches.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: And um, that is quite a key part, I would say.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: But other than that, it was enjoyable.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: We probably made it as fuss-free as possible to get through to the Olympics in a while.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: Um, so it was pretty good.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: Visit Oman.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: I'm not getting paid to say that.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: I I I yeah, the sum was great, but I wouldn't necessarily say I'd want to go back to Oman.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because you didn't leave.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: I didn't, I just didn't really and I didn't think much of it to be honest.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: I thought it was really it's just a really odd country, not in a not in a negative way or a positive way, it's just an odd country.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Quote Brendan, I don't like taxis, so I'm not going anywhere.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: I've I've been on a holiday to Oman.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Genuinely.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: I've really it it's uh it's one of my favorite countries as holiday.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: I know I sound sarcastic now, but it's it's a really good holiday.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: Is it is it because it's really clean in certain areas?
- 9:49SPEAKER_03: Almost a little bit spookily clean.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: You know what, Brendan?
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Not everyone has the money to go to the Maldives every winter.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Um I I I don't have the money to go every winter or any winter.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: I like I like them, man.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: I'm Timo man.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, same.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: Screw you, Brendan.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: Well, we we we asked a load of you, uh Brendan put it out.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: We got a load of responses, so thank you for that.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: We're gonna go into some of them.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Uh we've got some bigger topics, but firstly, we'll do a little bit on the news.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Um, very recently we had Brendan put it out.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: I missed that one.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Sorry, go on, Phil.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: The news, the Hockey India League is officially set to return this year.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: It's come out, just come out for anyone who's actually interested.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Um, hopefully, I part hopefully they don't hear Yupes rant about Bubineswam Ruchella because he's otherwise got no chance of getting picked.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, it's set to return on the 28th of December 24, and it's going through until the 2nd of Feb 25, so just over a month.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Um, it's uh eight men's teams, six women's teams.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Not sure why they couldn't have just made it eight of each, but they've got you know, do that.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Um, and yeah, they they the selection, the auction is due to happen after Paris.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: It's pretty exciting, guys.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and by the way, uh Bubaneshwa, I love the hotel we're in is fucking amazing.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Bubaneshwa, I love Rukela is not uh that amazing, but I would happily go and play for Rukela Hockey Club or whatever it's gonna be called if they pay me some money.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: The sound of that was it was heavy backtracking.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: You have literally banking on us not having any Indian listeners, basically.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: Well, you know what?
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: If they listen to to any episode, don't think I have a good shot of going, like apart from my hockey skills, which which also make it debatable whether someone wants to actually pay money for me to have them on their team.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: But I mean, yeah, big picture, it's good for hockey, I think.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: 100%, and I think I think a lot of people, a lot of hockey players, a lot of top hockey players were waiting for them to come back.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: It's been a topic in the last couple years, and I think they planned it perfectly the year after the Olympics.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: Uh, I don't know how much it's going to interfere with international hockey, as in the Pro League, which uh December till February, I think.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Um the pro or the hockey India League, they want to do it somewhere mid-December to February, and that's most of the time like the busy period, uh, pro league-wise.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm curious how that's gonna develop, but uh yeah, I think it's really good for hockey, and I think uh uh I hope uh they have deep pockets.
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: Um surely, surely people are gonna choose money over caps.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: Surely.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Well, no, I think to be honest with you, if you look at the schedule from this year, just to be nerdy, is that we played the first games in Argentina and ended that about the 19th of December.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: And I think the first pro league after that wasn't until early Feb.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: So so um the there was a gap there, I'm pretty sure.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: Don't maybe don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure there was a gap there.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: So maybe they have they they say they've worked with the FIH to create create the right timing.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: Um the big thing is like no if you want to get paid, there's officially no holiday time.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: You'll you'll basically won't have any holiday time from internet, from like hockey then, surely.
- 13:28unknown: Yeah.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Well, let's be honest, Brent.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: People people people want this to happen.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Like, first of all, for the for the sport, it creates a different like idea.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: You watch watch more interesting, I guess, like less um tactical hockey, like really cool teams, like hopefully really well televised, and you know, it gives the option for players to well, there's eight teams, so I don't know how many players are actually gonna get picked.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: It'll be it'll be we worked it out of if there's like eight internationals, it'd be around 64 players for the men's.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Um, and you know, it there's gonna be stiff competition to to get uh get a spot, I think.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: But it's very, very exciting.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure 90% of people are gonna be happy that the hockey in the league is returning because I watched it when uh it first came out, I thought it was awesome.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: Um hockey focus got in touch and actually said they've given us a great idea on the pod to try and build a team with a budget, so maybe that's a topic for future discussions about who you go after if you were an owner of a team.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: So we'll give Brendan like Kalinga Lancers.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: I'll take a face.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: It's a no-brainer.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Send to send him as the he's the pinnacle of your team.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: Hey, the spearhead, 100%.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: What what's what's your do you guys have a because you have to fill in uh a base price?
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: What when do you what's your base?
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: What are you guys going for?
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Like you don't want you don't want it to be too low because you'll end up in Rujera for for six weeks uh on on like 5,000 euros, and but you also don't want to go too high and that they think oh this guy's so full of himself, I'm not gonna buy him.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Well, they already know that about you, so yeah, I'm going I'm I'm going really high as a base price.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: You know you either like me or you don't, but it's also me as a hockey player.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: You really like me or you really don't.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: So I hope one of them does.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: So what so what price are you giving yourself?
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: I I'll go I'll go for 40.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: I don't think the base price last time even went that high.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: No, I think I think the base price you can know you can go like 20, I think.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: You can go for a base price of 20 or something.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: It was yeah, I think the max was 20.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, then I'm going for 20.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Bill?
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Brent Brent, I was just gonna say, I I my prediction about you is either you just randomly decide that it's too popular and you're not putting your name in the hat at all, or you go and you'll be like, 2,000 euros is my base price.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: No, I'll go for the experience.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: I'd start, I'd start at eight.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: That would be my number.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Oh mate, six weeks of India for 8,000, then you'll end up with 4,000.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: That's doesn't get you to the Maldives, mate.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Maddie.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: Maddie's expecting more than that, bro.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: Hey, people might bid if you start low, people might bid.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: You don't know.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: Fair, fair.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: Don't know.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: Bill, what are you saying?
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'd probably somewhere in the middle, like 15.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Like it's gotta be worth your while, but you don't want to over.
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: That's that's that's not in the middle.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Middle would be 10, Phil.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: If between you and oh, right, okay.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, nice save, bro.
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Right, we're definitely getting into some more hockey and did league chat in uh in the next few episodes, but um, thanks for putting that out.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: Hockey focus will definitely do that.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Can't wait for Brendan's ridiculously rash uh rash uh team.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: Um more news.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: I've got to bring it up.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: Maddie, Maddie Hinch, our our very own, is um got the USA field hockey goalkeeper women's job.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Have I got that right, Brendan?
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, terribly worded, but yeah.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, awful.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Um, and that is up to Paris and then on to LA.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: So um very exciting for her, you know.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: She's uh officially moving up in the world in the US.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: She she is the goalkeeper coach of the US women's team.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, I said it really badly.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: Okay, yeah, that's you you've just worded it much better, yeah.
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I to be honest, like I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity from a GB point of view that they've kind of lost their probably most successful ever goalkeeper and like person who's been probably the most clutch that they've ever probably ever had, and they've they've not really tried to like keep her at any stage.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: So I find that quite odd.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: Um but I think it's a I think it's an amazing opportunity for US women's to be honest.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: Um, I think they're gonna gain quite a lot from having her on board.
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: Because I think if she when she if she goes to Paris, which I think she is, then she's the only person within that camp that has been to an Olympics before.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: So I think that's like invaluable experience as well to have amongst the group.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: So I think from that point of view, it's kind of like it's a bit twofold from them.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: Obviously the goalkeeping side, but also just kind of like having somebody who's been there and kind of quite probably quite relaxed in that environment because she's been there a few times, like I think makes a huge difference for a group.
- 18:22SPEAKER_03: So yeah.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: But I wonder if she's gonna feel weird putting the team USA kit on.
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: Well it's gonna be she'll be over for pro league.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: So she'll have a taste of it in London anyway, being in a different kit, which I think will be it'll definitely feel a little bit different, but I think it'll be one of those things that I think you'll just get used to it quite quickly.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: Same way we would do if we moved the club sides, it's obviously yeah, it's nations, but it's it's past playing, it's now a job, isn't it?
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: So and are you are you a bit worried, Brendan?
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: With like LeBron James and Tatum and like Steph Curry there going to sneak in on Medi.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: They're all in the same room in the same uh in the same uh flat.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: Uh I was wondering where that question was going.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I'm not not really to be honest.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: Such a weird question.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: I tell you what, though, everybody wants to get photos.
- 19:21SPEAKER_03: I'll be so jealous if she gets photos with those guys.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: That'll kill me.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I know it'll kill you as well.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it will.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: I will ask if she'll like if I will like make a standard sticker of myself doing this and then ask her if she can like put it in the photograph with her in the carbo cut out, yeah.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Right, moving on.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: We got quite a lot of stuff about the Euro Hockey League, which has just finished.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Um, we wanted to get down into some some some um detail on that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Did you guys watch it firstly?
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I did.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: I I watched a lot, which is a first, as in that I can actually talk with you guys about.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: So so um for anyone who didn't, uh the Euro Hockey League finals were over Easter weekend, and um on the men's side, uh Pinnacle ended up beating Campong in the final, and then um old Georgians beat Rottweiss in the bronze medal match, um, and on the women's side, um Amsterdam beat Mannheimer in the final, and junior in the final match.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: They beat they beat them in the bronze medal match.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: But I wanted to talk about firstly my first takeaway is I'll ask all of you actually what what you what your takeaway was from the weekend.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: I'll go first to give you a little bit of time.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: But mine was that I think that when the EHL gets down to the final 16 and onwards, I think it's way more exciting to watch than most international hockey.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: I think the the product of firstly uh the the gap between the best players and the worst players being bigger, and the fact that there seems just more freedom, more um like creativity, it lends to watching the hockey being way better.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: And the examples are like Rottweiss and Campong played an insane five all, you know, like old Georgian's quarterfinal against Campo wasn't the like the best game to watch, but there was so much like um like bite in it, there was so much like freedom to play, there was so much end-to-end, there was lots of action in both circles.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: I found that really, really exciting.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: What's your what's your take?
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: Well, my uh my rebundle to that is that uh a rebuttal, rebuttal, yeah, rebuttal is um that the final was the most boring final I've maybe ever seen.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: Uh I think uh we were we were spoiled with the semifinal i think it was the best semi the best hockey game i've watched in ages uh rotweiss against uh kampool and you kind of knew uh rotweis was coming back you you felt it the second half you knew those german fuckers were were gonna do it again um my biggest takeaway was that uh ashley jackson is uh the biggest legend i have ever seen uh the way he the way he was on the field he did absolutely fuck all just just throw throw a couple eyeballs in there he he does it looks like he really doesn't give a shit and he he got away with the bronze medal at the eHL I mean yeah that's just for me that was the biggest takeaway like what an absolute legend that is but I was I was kind of disappointed with the with the OGs team because I gave them a good chance against uh Pinocchio but they I I missed quite a lot of good players uh because Aubrey is he is he injured or he's he plays for OGs right yeah Aubrey um broke his foot uh last week so the week before the EHL and San Ward uh had an operation on his hip a few months ago so he's still recovering from that yeah I I think yeah you you you felt that they were missing a couple solid players to really make it tough on Pinocchio um but I expected a bit more from that game because I because once the game started I I noticed I missed a couple guys um so that was kind of disappointing but I that they did well for what they for uh for what they could uh and I didn't expect them to win the bronze meta match to be honest because I I rate cologne pretty highly uh mats grambush um was insane thought he was really good tombus uh also didn't disappoint with getting a red card in the final game uh he did his part again flicked a couple corners gave a couple insane high balls was extremely annoyed all tournament long and ended up with a red card so if you if you don't know him and want to know just watch the entire year shell back and you'll get the gist of it but that was my biggest takeaway there was a lot of takeaways there's I'll um I'll I'll weigh in uh I I actually agree with you Phil I think it is the most exciting form of hockey but I think it's also because it's just a knockout the whole way through is a knockout and you've got people that want to win rather than a happy drawing.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: So I think from that point of view it definitely sets it up until you get to the final obviously um I agree with you but I think it was a real stalemate in the final a genuine lack of quality um more from the point of view of like neither team really looked like they wanted to go and win it it was a case of once Pinake scored it was defend and it wasn't really didn't even look like Campong really would they look knackered to be honest which again lends itself to the tournament format of teams basically playing back to back I think is a bit bullshit um doesn't just to just to give people information on that because what what was interesting was the um the the games and the way that they did the schedule meant that there was a semifinal on Friday and then one on Saturday is that right there was a semi-final on Saturday a semifinal on Sunday and then the final was on Monday Monday yeah yeah so it meant that Pinake got an extra 24 hours rest on Campong which when you when people won't maybe understand this completely but for hockey that's a pretty huge deal like the turnaround time the recovery time and OGs also had an extra 24 hours on Rottweiss and it was not that much of a shock that both OGs and Pinake won that game and I don't think it's a I don't think it's um a coincidence that that happened.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: No so apparently the team that has the extra day is always one yeah and especially the fact what kind of game the semi-final of Kampung and Rottweiss was which you can which you cannot control as a as a uh as a tournament but I think that kind of maybe but I don't know why they why they don't but maybe it has to do with ticketing and stuff.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: But I don't know why they don't just get a women's day and a men's day because then you can then every team has the same amount of rest and has the same preparation.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah and it showcases the sport for what it is rather than actually just trying to pack too much in and not really formatting the tournament well enough.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: Like you shouldn't have just a finals day you should have a two finals day because it makes it like the yeah like they do with European cups I think they always have a women's final day and a men's final day and uh yeah um I think that that that that helps the quality of the of the of the game I don't know if it helps with ticketing and stuff because I don't know how popular how much more popular the women's game is or how much more popular the men's game is and down the tickets but I think that would help a lot.
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: I think um yeah yeah the other thing I was going to there's two other things was the other thing I was going to say was stadiums being packed I think makes such a huge difference like the atmosphere looked amazing at the EHL like genuinely sold out on the final day I think makes such a big difference for us as athletes um let alone obviously everybody else watching in the stands um and my third point is backing up you's point I'm so happy that the world got to see Tom Grandbush for what he is a complete and utter ball bag he moans like that all the fucking time and gets away with it and this is the first bloke that's just gone do you know what you're a prick mate see you later and I I'm here for it I absolutely love it.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: If you're not gonna get sent off for anyone who doesn't know it came up on the microphone pretty pretty clearly that he did he see he was yeah he dropped the C bomb he said he he I mean I don't understand why I mean it's part of the reason Germans do this a lot I feel like as soon as you get to like a hundred caps as a German lots of them just are under this weird impression that nothing can ever be blown against them.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Like I really really like Max but whenever you play against him the the he gets so angry about everything and you're just like you just need to chill out a bit mate it's everything's alright like like sometimes someone tackles you and that's okay I'm maybe pot kettle black maybe not but at the same time I'm not always shouting and screaming and turning greens into red I do yeah you don't you don't turn greens into red but you definitely do the bit before where you shout and scream from a distance that's a different no not always from a distance no no bit of substantial please Phil by the way um also uh the the guy from uh Ghent uh the French guy in the quarter final game he also got a red card or like he got a suspension really yeah gone to Pinocch uh Campbell uh the guy also really yeah they they should have gotten a stroke or at least a penalty corner and the referee said play on and then I think Mason is his name yeah he uh he went at it against the ref and he got a suspension as well what was the what is the suspension then when you get red card now does it depend on how the severity of it he gets one game he got one game he was very aggressive apparently and they don't say he's he yeah he he he he didn't spit to he spit towards the referee if that makes sense so not yeah so not not like the Spanish guy did but he spat like towards him bands are pointless like you might as well just not have a ban one game ban is nothing you might as well bin that off like well then let's go back to let's go to five and ten game bands let's make it really worthwhile yeah they used to do that in hockey it used to be like 30 days or something didn't it yeah yeah I also I also didn't but I'll we we'll do it I'll I'll have my my my little um piece of advice towards the referees after the break and we're back I mean let's let's let's finish off the EHL segment with some umpires I've got some but you wanted to weigh in first yeah I think I think the the the I I think yeah how am I going to put this um the the there were some some mistakes all fine because I think that's I I've learned that I need to ex agree or accept um that I make mistakes in the field so the referee is also allowed to make mistakes so don't get me wrong on that yeah Brent but I'm waiting for the butt but the one the one thing that really annoys me is the video referee and and the amount of talking they do now just because you're mic'd up doesn't mean you have to you have to constantly talk and explain yourself like sometimes they they they also like like and you you you have to to to to to to referee a game between sonder the wine and the grambus brothers yeah if you give them a just a little bit too much they were going to whine all game against you and they were I don't I don't know the what her what her name was I think Alice Alison Bree or something or whatever.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: She like or Alison something she with every decision she started explaining herself as kind of like looking for validation from the players that she said yeah she was constantly saying guys make it easy for me I'm like just shut up and blow the whistle if you feel like there's a there's a there's a there's a foul and then also the the video referee made some critical errors which I which are really like the one the compound game against uh Pino K.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: Like I'm sorry but I it's never it's never uh what do you call the shadow or like uh uh obstruction like Duco gets get Hendrix makes a makes a back stick like what what's the foul I don't get so so I have an issue with this and the issue is Hendrix isn't allowed to speak to the umpire at all no so camp refer Hendrix then wades in after camp referred and says can you have a look for obstruction which he's not allowed to do so that's that's mistake number one by umpire at this point so this is obviously European final then the second part is the umpire then says to the video refan you also have a look for obstruction that's mistake number two so he's heard the mistake and hasn't said anything second one he's then relayed the the information which he shouldn't do and the third one is I don't I don't think she'll see that if that was the case I don't think she'd see that scenario she will never because you wouldn't be looking for it and it 100% was a back stick and it'd be a corner and then you're giving away a a corner against Kampong which is which is potentially a pretty good opportunity for them to score so I think from that point of view it's a big thing.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: And especially as you said because basically Pinoquet is using Kampong's video referral in their own good yeah they don't have to read so it's it it makes absolutely zero sense so yeah I I think the I don't think the referees did did a horrible job or anything don't get me wrong but I think there was like at a certain point I was like I got kind of annoyed with like the amount of talking they did with and and I don't mind referees talking a lot because it it it helps sometimes in their explanations and I I I prefer them to talk more as much as they did than then that they they're arrogant and don't talk at all but like kind of annoyed me at a certain point they took a lot of the spotlight and that's not the referees job in my opinion.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: So the first thing is like just on the other side of the coin is that Hendrix did a good job didn't he?
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah fair like very very clever he it was very clever and he did very well and I think that that it that it's not a knock on Hendrix I think it's a knock on no no no it's just interesting isn't it like that that players can manipulate and um get their own way a little bit which like we went into a lot in like the European final last year in the in the in the summer about how you can like use the time or use the umpires in your own favour what I would be intrigued about does it still deeper you guys say it still sits deeper it does with me yeah yeah don't worry we'll also maybe on that point was was was like are umpires training like they're gonna go and like play like doing EHL stuff like are they are they training at all and like are they actually looking and reviewing the performances and then like handing out the right games to the right people because it just seems like it's like oh well now this person is a well renowned umpire so we're just gonna give them the the EHL final I I think I think they review stuff but I would question the training bit because like I I have a real issue especially in the UK I think the standard of officiating isn't good and the people that are on arguably the biggest games of the of the season now I don't think are up to scratch majority of the time if I'm putting if I'm being brutally honest.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: And it's so frustrating because like our especially the English league has now been orchestrated that you have high pressure games high pressure moments more often but then I don't think the officiating is up is up to the same level as what the game is and I think that's what and for me it's frustrating because I'd I would love an umpire genuinely would love an umpire to come down to training and run and like umpire during our sessions like for me that's a great opportunity for one to have training as a high a standard as possible because let's face it coaches umpiring doesn't necessarily help but also like it shows that their willingness to get better as well is a huge thing for me.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah and then and then then I think you should pay them and I don't think there's any referee that's uh that's being paid I think they're all doing it for uh for um I don't know how you guys call it volunteering yeah volunteer when they only get expenses back like the traveling back yeah they're being covered but if you really want them to to invest and grow they're all doing it as kind of like a hobby or kind of like uh on the side they're all they all have day jobs and and and um so I think if you really want them to get to get better and invest in it's it's actually tough on them because they're probably they're just doing it as a hobby and they'll get yelled and they get yelled at all Sunday for 60 minutes or all game.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah they won't they won't they won't get better because they don't train and I think uh uh it's it's it's also it's fucking difficult to umpire like don't get me wrong uh but yeah then you should pay them you should pay them and give them give them like uh at least a couple hundred euros a game or whatever that they at least like have an incentive to uh to train do you know do you know also on the initial point about like a little bit about you said about the Sandy Vine and the Granbush brothers like and I kind of like against you but I kind of like when you hear a lot from the umpire and them trying to talk to like players constantly I do understand maybe the over explaining point but like wouldn't it be nicer for us to go in a more direction of like the rugby where there's like a greater level and again I understand like myself with pot Kell Black here but like a greater level of respect towards the umpires as opposed to going in a football direction where you've just abused them and everything's okay like could we get to that point by just being way harsher for like you you could turn around and say like across the board for international games and club games from next season basically any chat back is like a card would would it change or do are we too deep in it?
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: I think it would yeah I agree I think the I think the the issue is is consistency of it because I think like in in like in any referee scenario rugby there's so much consistency on it the fact that all um all referees basically do the same thing I think once we get to a level of consistency I think it will see a stark change but I think the only way it's gonna go is if we do start cards are just given out for people all players are the same as well because all players refer to them as uh don't they yeah yeah but I I think I think it um they they should always then they should also uh stop with making um rules which are uh interpretable interpretable yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I think is as soon as the interpretation comes into play like with the high ball or with dangerous or not I think and there are there are it's tough to make like a clear black or white rule about it but then as soon as there is interpretation there's discussion I have a question on that.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: So are we at the point now where we can change the interpretation so an umpire seeing interpret so for example if an umpire sees it from their point of view they're given their point of view can we now as players ask the question from our point of view and it be held in the same regard?
- 38:23SPEAKER_03: Does that make sense?
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: No like because that's where it should if we're talking about interpretation that's where it should be where you're basically it's two different points of view like there should be held in equal hands from their point of view but I think the problem is is with interpretation we basically ask a question and the umpire always puts their spin on the question and I think it's now I think we're at that point where we should be able to ask the questions equally if that makes sense with equal weighting.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah I don't I don't think we we we just have I think every team I've played in now has the appointment as soon as it's interpretation you don't ask a video yeah that's what we it's the final minute or final second of a game but like that that that that there's nothing the referees can do about it or we can do about it.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: I think I think as soon as interpretation comes into play it's tough to make like I agree with Phil with like the consistency thing and with the talking I think as soon as you make like the rule that as soon as you you talk unrespectful uh uh without respect or unrespectfully to a referee you just get a green card yeah and if it's if it's twice it's a yellow and if it's three times it's a red like I think as if you make that a rule and you can you can talk to him you can ask what are you with what are you whistling for whatever whatever but like not I think that's good I agree.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah we got there in the end nice Brendan getting on his high horse about interpretation well that well you've so valid though no all I'm gonna say is like the aerial rule now is because there's so much interpretation on it nobody really understands what the rule is so therefore as you says the minute a decision's made whether or not you agree you just get on with it but it is to the point that it is so individualized for each umpire that it's now so confusing I think yeah but it's gone even that far with me that I just don't care like I don't I don't question anything with the aerial anymore.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: It's basically someone the the a ball gets chucked I've chugged a 50p piece up in my mind and then it's just like oh well that that that way they're gone okay cool just get on with it like I can't believe people still get angry by it it's like no one fucking knows.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: No one knows what why are we starting well let's let's yeah let's let's end let's end the EHL with the with a shout out to our to our avid listener and uh a fan of the podcast and we are a fan of him with uh Van Album getting uh EHL because I I now think he has won everything there is to win for him he's won the Belgium League with Raghon he's won the league last year with Hofklasse with Pinocchio he's won the EHL now and has won the Europeans Olympics World Cup so big hats off to him from but has but has he won the Indian hockey league?
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: Ooh I don't know if he played in it if he no I don't I don't know if he played in it but we're gonna look it up and he fucking will have done winning that's depressing.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah that's probably he he he will go for a big money uh for big money I think yeah or we might slip through the net because someone's put so much money on Hardik Singh and he and he comes out he's only gone for five grand to Raw Keller yeah Pinake Amsterdam congratulations for winning um shout out to Flo no just for no not been okay just for noble and Drake and Drake oh and Dukie I also like Duke just hosted right let's move it on um oh yeah so someone someone asked the question EGC VW that's actually going to be one of my pet peeves is that when people do ridiculous Instagram handles and I'm trying to write them down this is eg underscore cv wrote in saying should the EHL be hosted in UK soon I think yes it should it could be good crack we have we have some decent fans show up you shut up can't be in Holland every year some bit go make another picture with each other on the balcony right because we're back and Brendan's done this nice uh shout out to you guys we're gonna do some like quick fire topics from you uh and then we're gonna get into the coop so I'm just gonna choose the ones that are pretty easy to to to get out there and and just see if you guys can can um can can give me a quick lowdown.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: First one is Kerry X26 Margot Van Geffen and Ava Drummond being dropped this close to Paris is it a shock or did you see it coming what's going on I'll let you answer this one.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: It's quick fire um is it a big shock?
- 42:50SPEAKER_00: No it's not a it's not a the timing of it is is the shock I think I don't think uh it's uh it's a huge shock I think the shock is is is in that they both have 250 something caps um uh yeah uh I don't think the the the the correct action uh question is whether it was a shock that they got dropped uh I for me it's it's unexpected as in that I I don't necessarily completely agree with with the decision I think especially Ava still brings a lot of value to the women's team in both experience but also in play um and I think yeah I like they're they are 34 and 35 so they they are probably on the back end of their career um it's always a bit painful because they they've meant so much for Dutch hockey uh they're they're both double Olympic gold winners multiple world cups I think the European Cups are not even mentioned because they have won so much more um which says a lot about them uh and Eva would have gone to her fifth Olympics um so yeah I think that that makes it a bit Bit more painful.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, it's always painful to get dropped, especially such a legend as those two.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: Uh, yeah, I I think the women's team is just such an incredible team right now, and they're uh I think they're on their way to a gold medal um without any bumps in the road, to be honest.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: Um, so they'll probably still end up winning gold.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's kind of a shock, but also not.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: I don't I know I know Paul wasn't the biggest fan of both Eva and uh Margot.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: Or I know, I think.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: Uh so yeah, it wasn't the biggest shock, but uh I think it was more in their experience and their value for Dutch hockey.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, nice quick fire questions that um you know what?
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: Fuck you, Phil.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: It's a podcast.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: You should you're supposed to talk.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: That's a perfect answer.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: You a lot of time for that.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: No, that was good.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: That was good.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, next question, Phil.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: Um, let's do a quick one.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: Is the coop with you coming back?
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: Yes, next question.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: Yes, good, right.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: Um, are English clubs happy that OGs came third?
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: Um, or are they only are the only people happy, the OGs people, Brendan?
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: Uh yes, clubs are happy because it also gives us a better opportunity to get back to three teams in Europe.
- 45:19SPEAKER_03: So, yes, other teams are happy as well.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: And yeah, there isn't this.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: I don't think there's this big like we we need different teams, like you have a rivalry with most teams, but yeah, I think it's pretty simple.
- 45:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's not a hate, it's it's a very much a yeah, it was a good weekend for English club teams, full stop, men's and women's.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Rupert Shipley is a huge fan, he's put in some questions.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Um best beer of choice post-game.
- 45:45SPEAKER_00: Well, uh Rupert, I'm um I'm an athlete.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: I don't drink.
- 45:50SPEAKER_00: So um not just say a beer.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: Uh beer.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, to be honest, I don't really give a shit.
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: Whatever, whatever it is put in my hands, I drink.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: I like apples for me.
- 46:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, cider.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: Uh in the apple cider.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm running with my apple cider.
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: No, I don't know.
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: I think I I just I just like after the game, I just like a good old-fashioned, like a like a from the top.
- 46:17SPEAKER_00: Just next question, please, mate.
- 46:21SPEAKER_01: All right, two more from Shippley.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: Umpartisan shorts.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: What do you think?
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: Sorry?
- 46:27SPEAKER_01: Umpartisan shorts.
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: No, not a thing.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: Next one.
- 46:31SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna I'm gonna plead the fifth.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: Unless it's with hockey socks, in which case, yes, I'm all in.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: Um, and Simon Organ sent a message to a question to you you said, uh, will Oranye Road become Dutch champions this year?
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: I I sure fucking hope so, but I have no clue.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm I'm I'm kind of kind of nervous of how good Bloomelow is starting to become again.
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: Oh, they're on the roll.
- 46:59SPEAKER_00: No, I think we have a good shot at it.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: And I'm and I think we're not the team with I think we have a lot of quality.
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: I don't think we're the team with the most quality, and as Spinockey showed last year, I think you also need a bit of luck and a bit of being in form at the right time.
- 47:14SPEAKER_00: Uh so I hope that the right form is not there yet with us.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: So I hope that's a good sign, and I hope we get informed exactly at the right moment.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: Um, someone's asked about cut socks.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: Have we done this before?
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we've done it.
- 47:31SPEAKER_00: We want to look like football players, and they're fucking awesome.
- 47:34SPEAKER_00: Listen more avidly.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: That's a great response.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: Very quick response.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: Um, where is the new logo with UPIN?
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: Um, I think you're mistaking yours for a productive and efficient podcast.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: Um it will happen?
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: Probably not, but sometime soon.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 47:58SPEAKER_00: Um I I think this is a very, very good question.
- 48:02SPEAKER_00: I think Brendan is now actually putting some time in uh to actually get us in some new graphics and stuff, right?
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: Which is like a good job.
- 48:10SPEAKER_00: But I'm I'm also kind of done to only give, give, give, being the absolute, the the one who keeps the show going, who is always on time, who who puts in the work, uh, who who who gets everything done with this podcast and not get the credit.
- 48:27SPEAKER_00: I'm really done with not even being in the photo.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: You guys, you are you this podcast is nothing without kidding.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: But it would be nice if I could get in the logo.
- 48:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: Brendan, can you sort that out or not?
- 48:41SPEAKER_03: I will try.
- 48:43SPEAKER_00: We've tried fucking seven times.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: Just make it fucking happen, Brendan.
- 48:47SPEAKER_00: Jesus.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: Come on, commit to it, Brent.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Give us give us uh give us so we can come back to episode one and say, Brendan, you said it.
- 48:54SPEAKER_01: Can you give us an assurance?
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: I cannot give you an assurance, but I will try my hardest.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: Right, and the last one after this episode, I'm on a strike until there is a logo.
- 49:05SPEAKER_00: Absolutely fine.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, okay.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: No, you you you stay, you stay.
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: You see, Phil's kept.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: That's because Phil then has to spend more time with just me and him, and that's not good for our relationship.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: Don't leave me.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: And last one is a more of a more of a medium response.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Does hockey Fazer putting does hockey need more pundits and opinions, i.e.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: Neville and Carragher?
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: I could I mean there is a simple answer of yes.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: I think it might have been why this podcast started.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: We're not looking to be Neville and Carragher and um Gary Lineker or Mika Richards.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: But we're we're what's wrong, Brent?
- 49:49SPEAKER_03: That's a man who doesn't watch football to put those three together.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, because they're not on Monday night football.
- 49:54SPEAKER_01: Okay, thank you.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: Um we do need more, like people need to be more opinionated.
- 49:59SPEAKER_01: People need to be the problem is I think hockey's still such a small world that if you say something bad about someone, it's eventually going to come back to them.
- 50:05SPEAKER_01: And I think that's the the challenge that the three of us face um on a weekly basis.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: That you well, you doesn't you kind of says it, but I'd also say you two you two feel like very, very uh like on the closet all the time.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: I actually give some like valid opinions, actually say what I think.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: Hey, don't don't don't drag me around in this little little no no no I was gonna give you two.
- 50:29SPEAKER_01: I was gonna compliment Brendan because Brendan went at Tom Grambush today, and I'm proud of him bullsack.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: He is a bullsack, yeah.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: So we've comprehensively answered the questions there.
- 50:43SPEAKER_01: Um let's move on to uh what we've all been waiting for, and I'm looking forward to the sound effect again.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: It's uh in the coop with you.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the main event, everyone.
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: Back in the coop.
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: I've actually put in a lot of work to give you guys another season of Coop and another like some banger questions.
- 51:09SPEAKER_00: I hope my two other colleagues slash friends um also give me some magic to work with.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: First question if we were a sitcom character, who would we three be?
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: So, like which sitcom character represents us?
- 51:31SPEAKER_00: Phil.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: So I've got like one me and Brendan talk this through because I was trying to offend him at the same time as like talk it through.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: We the really easy one to start with, which is just like completely generic, is is the in-between us because there's three characters in that that I think what we all you know relate to uh quite closely.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: You hopefully you know that you're Neil.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: Um no, sorry, of course, sorry, yeah.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: Jay, yeah, I thought Jay is all Brendan is Simon because he's he's he's like Maddie is Carly, yeah, and I'm the briefcase wanker.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, I think, yeah, I I couldn't have yeah, I think that's very, very good.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: I was actually I was I was also like thinking about uh Phil, you being like uh Chander Bing a bit, uh you know, settled with uh settled with like Monica, like you don't have the funny side of him, but you have the you have like the sarcastic uh uh comments, you're very settled.
- 52:38SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, so I was thinking a bit with you, that I came with Brandon I kind of came with um yeah, both Creed from the office or like so something along those lines.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: Um can I just jump in on the office?
- 52:59SPEAKER_01: Because I also had that, and we we we moved around with this, and Brendan's not gonna be happy, but you're you're Michael Scott, yeah, right?
- 53:08SPEAKER_01: Brendan's Dwight, and I'm Jim.
- 53:11SPEAKER_01: And again, for similar reasons, is like I'm kind of I know that maybe that's a push for me, but in terms of the relationship of you're kind of needy you, but you're like a large than life needy character.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: Um Brendan's just a moron, and I am the guy who is settled who bullies the moron.
- 53:31SPEAKER_03: I tried to push for Phil to be Oscar, but Phil didn't agree.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: I hope people know the office, otherwise, this is badly.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: I hope so as well.
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: But I also I also thought uh Harry Potter.
- 53:42SPEAKER_03: I genuinely sat there for a while.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: Just I went on to films.
- 53:45SPEAKER_00: Harry Potter is a great sitcom by indeed.
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I went on to films.
- 53:49SPEAKER_01: Brendan didn't like Harry that you're on.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was also thinking Family Guy.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: That like I'm probably uh Peter Griffin without without the big fill.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: Phil is probably Stewie.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: And you are Meg.
- 54:13SPEAKER_01: You see, you can just fit, I just fitted it around Brendan, like so.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: I just it was like stay where they were terrible, like like but but just finishing off with Brendan is Meg, it just makes it good.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: I thought Chris was the worst on the show.
- 54:25SPEAKER_04: Shout out Meg as well.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: Well, can I guess just the last one?
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: Um, and I had um Cam from Modern Family for Brendan.
- 54:37SPEAKER_01: Cam.
- 54:37SPEAKER_03: Oh, very dramatic.
- 54:40SPEAKER_03: Never seen Modern Family.
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: Okay, yeah, it's he's really cool.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's compliment.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: He yeah, and who are you from Modern Family then, or you don't have one for yourself?
- 54:51SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I'm Phil.
- 54:54SPEAKER_00: I think that's a stretch.
- 54:56SPEAKER_00: No, it's a big stretch.
- 54:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's way too funny to be you.
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: Um okay, thank you guys.
- 55:02SPEAKER_00: Uh next one.
- 55:03SPEAKER_00: Uh, would you rather be chronically underdressed or overdressed to every occasion?
- 55:11SPEAKER_00: So let me give some some like um context.
- 55:15SPEAKER_00: It means like if you go to to like just uh just to get together with friends, you will come in the tuxedo.
- 55:21SPEAKER_00: It also means that when you play a hockey game and you're chronically overdressed, you're wearing double gloves, uh helmet, uh shin guards, big shoes with protection, or you go underdressed and you don't even wear shin guards, you just wear your like like your not even your jersey, don't wear shin guards, like so you're chronically underdressed or overdressed.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: Under just because it's double gloves, uh Phil.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: I sealed it.
- 55:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, this is tough.
- 55:52SPEAKER_03: I I was gonna choose under, but the thought of playing hockey with no protection actually scares me a little bit.
- 55:59SPEAKER_00: It's also very annoying when you or like when you have to go to like a like a black tie party and you you come in your shorts and just a white shirt.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty happy.
- 56:08SPEAKER_01: I know that makes me happy.
- 56:09SPEAKER_03: Well, funeral funeral, and you're there in shorts and t-shirts.
- 56:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know, I have to make it morbid, mate.
- 56:15SPEAKER_01: Well, that's just how it is, Phil.
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: Like if you're saying that we're going to a wedding and I'm like, oh no, I don't have to wear a suit, I'm not that mad about that.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: But being overdressed at a wedding and coming with like sparkles and shit is also like it's also part over overdressed, you're in a wedding dress too.
- 56:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: But the double glove thing is also that that really sets me off wearing double gloves and like the the helmet and shit that would say around with a face mask the whole time would be quite funny, though.
- 56:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but okay, but what would you choose?
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: You would go overdressed, Brent, or not?
- 56:45SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think I'd have to choose overdressed, yeah.
- 56:48SPEAKER_03: And yeah, I would go underdressed as well, Phil.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: Just quit hockey.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: Don't play hockey, right?
- 56:56SPEAKER_00: If I can't wear a mouth guard and shingles, hey, I'll figure out something else.
- 57:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm quite happy.
- 57:03SPEAKER_01: You know, wearing the tiny shingards that you get from footballers.
- 57:07SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, you think I've got a real issue with that, but anyway, go on.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 57:13SPEAKER_00: Um, would you do you guys want another we want a hockey one or you do you want a let's let's put in a hockey one.
- 57:20SPEAKER_00: A hockey one.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: Um which coach would you like to work with in the future?
- 57:28SPEAKER_00: Or what is a coach to which you would say, Oh, I would really love to work with him.
- 57:32SPEAKER_03: There's there's one coach that I've had one session by and I would love to have worked with him for longer, and that was Eric Vaboom.
- 57:40SPEAKER_03: He came, he came, he applied for the assistant role uh a few years ago, and came and did one session, and during the session, I genuinely think 80% of the people in our team couldn't do the drills that he gave us, and I was like, this guy's actually this guy's a genius.
- 57:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you guys missed that.
- 58:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I he was he was the one coach that I've been like holy but uh that I've had like experience of, and I was like, Oh shit, this guy's unbelievable.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: And you feel I think I think from what I've heard about him, uh Shane McLeod.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: I think I had him as well.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: The better the other Belgian guy who won all that stuff.
- 58:23SPEAKER_01: I just everyone who I've spoke to who's had him co who's been coached by him has spoken incredibly highly.
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like amazing management um reviews and the way he treats people are really that sound pretty cool.
- 58:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he apparently is run like a really good people's manager.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: He's uh I I just have it from here say he's not the best hockey coach, as in like giving training and shit, but he's like really good at making people be their best selves on the field and shit.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: So I think he would be really can I add in because I've heard so many great stories, and the fact that he's like completely out of the box is Paul Van Us because it's yeah, I wanted to say him as well.
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: Oh Phil, look at look at us, two minds think alike, great minds think alike.
- 59:06SPEAKER_00: Like I would I I wanted to say exact same thing because he's uh not because I think he's the best coach, just because he seems like and I mean this in the best way possible.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: He's such an idiot sometimes that I think it would be really, really funny to work with him.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: I think you'd be amazed every week with the amount of shit he says and does and whatever.
- 59:26SPEAKER_00: But on the other hand, you're also like, I don't think you'll ever feel secure or anything with him.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: You're also your toes, probably, because he is going to be like yeah, for the stories for the like for the like to work with what we gained today, like what's he gonna do?
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: Because I've heard some really funny stuff when he like at halftime or something.
- 59:44SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure I've got this right, but at half time I've been told that he went in and gave him all a score out of ten, and he just pointed at them and gave him a score.
- 59:51SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, that's absolute gold dust.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: Like, I'd aspire to be a coach like that, and then be really highly regarded as well.
- 59:58SPEAKER_01: You guys, two out of ten.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_00: He did some really rogue shit, apparently.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I don't have all the stories, but he has he did some rogue shit.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: Love it.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: Come on, give us one more.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, one more?
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_00: You guys are such one more.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: You guys are such okay.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_00: I'll do a not, I'll do a non-hockey one.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, do I do a hockey one?
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_00: Do another hockey one.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_00: We had two.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_00: Um, you're really putting me on the spot here, Philip, but I'm very well prepared.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_00: Um, all right.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: Would you rather room?
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_00: Oh, who would you rather room with for a six-week trip to India out of the other two?
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: Like, I think for Brendan and me, it's quite like it's I think Phil needs to make a tough decision here.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_01: No, it's not that tough.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe it is tough actually.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_00: It's choosing between your mom and your dad, but in the in a bad way for Phil.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: I think.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_03: Do you think it's I I'll flip the question.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_03: Do you think you'd survive six weeks in India as a three if we went to the same team in the Hockey League?
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_03: Do you think we'd survive as a three?
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_00: Uh easy.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_00: I think it'd be easy.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'd I'd survive.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you guys, I'd survive easy.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_01: I also think that would be that just makes me really excited if we could some power putting it.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_01: I'd I realize after I said it.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: Putting me in a bid, like the auction, it doesn't come up as our names, it just comes up as let's stick together.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: The threesome.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: How much do you think we're worth as a three?
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_00: 55, 50 to 60 for me, six for you, Brendan, and ten for Phil.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_00: So it would come up around 80.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_01: I I mean, going back to your question, the the problem is that like I know what I'm getting with Brendan, um, because I see it day in and day out, and and and that's you know, that's not it's not that exciting to to think about for six weeks in India.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Brendan.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: Like the problem would be is that I it's a bit of an unknown with you, you like yeah.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_01: You're intrigued, are you?
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm intrigued, but I'm I would be also worried about our friendship.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's intrigued, but not for the right reasons.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_01: But me and me and Brent could last because there's so much like love hate there that that even if we came out and hating each other, it'd be okay.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: I think that's pretty fair.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna go with you.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna glass half full, we'd have a great time.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: I listen, you would have a great time, Philip.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_00: I do sleep naked.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_02: Dude, do you not find that uncomfortable?
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_00: And I don't flush toilets.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: Sorry, sorry, Brendan.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: Well, sorry?
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_00: What do you do you not find that uncomfortable sleeping naked?
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: It's mate.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_00: Honestly, try it once, you'll never go back.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_00: It's I've tried it, I don't like it.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_00: I like wearing bokies.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_00: It's a sense of freedom you'll never experience anywhere else in the world.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_03: That is why he's Jay.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_03: It's a sense of freedom you don't get with other holidays.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_03: That is why he's J from between us.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_02: Oh god.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: Okay, sorry.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_01: I think that's been I you know, this has been a really, really enjoyable first episode back.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: It's been season six, it's been a long time coming.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: Say again, it's been very hockey for us.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Brendan, we're a hockey podcast.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: I don't know what else you'd expect, right?
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know if people's expectations went up or down from season five, but we are back.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_01: Like, thank you for getting in touch with um us on social media.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_01: Please um tell other people about our podcast.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_01: Like, we're we're Brendan, are you alright?
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, podcast.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_03: I was just sorry.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's been a long day.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_00: And also, and also let us know whether whether you think um it was good, but also let us know do you think we are worth a season six?
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_00: Are we like the hangover and are we just doing one too many, or do you want us to keep on going like Fast and the Furious?
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm on the Fast and the Furious side.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: I think we still have a lot of gold to give you guys, but let us know.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_01: Great analogy.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_01: This has been Let's See Together with uh me, Phil, and the likely man.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_01: See you next week.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: Cheerio.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_02: Oh man with my apple slider.
