- 0:01Speaker 1: In this corner standing it six foot five, weight class
- 0:05Speaker 1: unknown hailing from Sin City, Las Vegas, Jamison Wells. And
- 0:12Speaker 1: in this corner standing it five foot nine, Wayne Towns
- 0:18Speaker 1: with six wins, three.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Losses, two arrests, four late.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Payments on student loans, and two total bankruptcies hits Doug Classy.
- 0:27Speaker 3: I'll go high. Welcome and thank you for another edition
- 0:34Speaker 3: of the Mixed Company Podcast. Of course, I'm one of
- 0:37Speaker 3: your hosts, Jamison Wells, and as always I am joined
- 0:40Speaker 3: by the classic alcoholic Classy. What's going on? Man? Oh,
- 0:44Speaker 3: what's up?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Jamison?
- 0:45Speaker 4: I am feeling pretty damn good today. Happy to be
- 0:48Speaker 4: here recording episode seventeen of our show. We had a
- 0:51Speaker 4: really interesting weekend in the boxing world, and we've got
- 0:53Speaker 4: a lot of upcoming stuff to talk about.
- 0:54Speaker 2: So before I get.
- 0:56Speaker 4: In all that, I think I want to get up
- 0:58Speaker 4: give out a couple of shout outs. Episode drops June fifth,
- 1:01Speaker 4: but we're recording a couple of days early.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Today.
- 1:03Speaker 4: June and third is actually the ninth anniversary of the
- 1:06Speaker 4: passing of Muhammad Ali lug Out, and I gotta say
- 1:09Speaker 4: I'm a shocked that it's been almost a decade since
- 1:11Speaker 4: we lost the man did you know it been that long?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Doesn't it feel like just yesterday?
- 1:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it feels doesn't feel not in years, but the
- 1:18Speaker 3: way time flies, I'm not surprised, like time really flies.
- 1:21Speaker 3: So unfortunately, it does make sense.
- 1:25Speaker 4: And I have been told by many times by friends,
- 1:28Speaker 4: including our producer, who is a few ages a few
- 1:30Speaker 4: years older than we are, that as you get older,
- 1:32Speaker 4: it just seems to move fast.
- 1:34Speaker 2: You know, times move faster.
- 1:35Speaker 4: We're almost forty, and damn man, I just turned thirty
- 1:39Speaker 4: like six months ago.
- 1:42Speaker 3: That's what it feels like until it ain't. Well.
- 1:45Speaker 4: If you're just joining the show, be sure to check
- 1:47Speaker 4: out our previous episode Uber sixteen, because we discussed the
- 1:49Speaker 4: documentary called When We Were Kings.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It's all about all these.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Legendary fight against George Foreman in nineteen seventy four, which
- 1:55Speaker 4: is called The Rumble of the Jungle. We probably should
- 1:58Speaker 4: have saved that movie for this episode, but I'm bad
- 2:00Speaker 4: at playing stuff.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Honestly.
- 2:02Speaker 4: The reason I realized that it was the passing is
- 2:05Speaker 4: because I coincidentally I was listening to an old episode
- 2:08Speaker 4: of the Bodigga Boys podcast from June twenty sixteen, so
- 2:11Speaker 4: they mentioned that Ali had just died. So shout out
- 2:14Speaker 4: to uh DeJesus and Marrow for that reminder. I'm still
- 2:18Speaker 4: not over the breakup. And since we're sports podcasts, you know,
- 2:21Speaker 4: shout out to all the New York Knicks fans disappointed
- 2:23Speaker 4: that they did not make it to the NBA Finals
- 2:25Speaker 4: this year.
- 2:26Speaker 2: So yeah, I know, I mean necescerely.
- 2:31Speaker 4: I don't follow basketball, but I follow I keep an
- 2:34Speaker 4: eye on the Knicks and the Yankees because if they
- 2:36Speaker 4: either win the championship, that's a chance that we can
- 2:38Speaker 4: get Theesus and Marrow back. Maybe not for podcasters, I know,
- 2:45Speaker 4: I know.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I follow the SUS a lot on other things.
- 2:54Speaker 2: He ain't nah, I know, listen, I know me right.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Not like if you see how they've operated since they've split,
- 3:05Speaker 3: You've seen ones way more active than the other.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Sure, sure, and I know you're right.
- 3:10Speaker 4: I just I think I don't know if maybe, if
- 3:12Speaker 4: the Yankees win, maybe at least an Instagram life together
- 3:14Speaker 4: where they're like a shot at Yankees twenty seven rings.
- 3:17Speaker 2: That was twenty eight d X all day.
- 3:19Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I just I don't think I've ever gonna get over it.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I'm never gonna let it go.
- 3:25Speaker 3: No Marrow is a guy. Merrow was the one really
- 3:27Speaker 3: carrying that show, and you can tell since why it's
- 3:33Speaker 3: been different now. I fall both of them on social media,
- 3:35Speaker 3: but Merrill is the one really really really really really
- 3:39Speaker 3: like he was the one, and he ain't. The way
- 3:41Speaker 3: he operates, he ain't going back to that. He ain't.
- 3:46Speaker 4: I deep down, I know you're right, I know, but
- 3:50Speaker 4: I still, like I said, I still keep an eye
- 3:51Speaker 4: on it.
- 3:51Speaker 3: When the Knicks are going to be at the damn
- 3:52Speaker 3: finals or not. Yeah, it'll be good for business. Everything's
- 3:57Speaker 3: good whenever the Knicks are lakers or in the playoffs
- 3:59Speaker 3: or anything. It's always good for numbers of business. No
- 4:02Speaker 3: matter what you're doing, everyone's gonna take a look. Everybody's
- 4:04Speaker 3: gonna be engaged. So I get it. I get it. Well.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Next shout out, June is Pride month, So shout out
- 4:11Speaker 4: to all of the LGBT boxing fans out there. Field
- 4:14Speaker 4: the need to mention it because unfortunately, boxing fans aren't
- 4:17Speaker 4: always the most inclusive punch. I see people on boxing
- 4:19Speaker 4: Instagram still using comments like using gay as an insult,
- 4:23Speaker 4: like we're not in twenty twenty five. Just to be clear,
- 4:25Speaker 4: we don't fuck with that here, this is an inclusive podcast,
- 4:28Speaker 4: and we believe boxing is for everybody, not just to watch,
- 4:30Speaker 4: but to participate it. But because I was curious if
- 4:32Speaker 4: there were ever any openly gay boxers in recent times,
- 4:35Speaker 4: I found what now retired?
- 4:36Speaker 2: But Jameson, have you heard of Orlando Cruz from Puerto Rico.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I saw something like that recently when you did the rundown.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I saw that somebody else tweeted or something. But yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 3: I was not that's likely familiar with them, but I
- 4:49Speaker 3: would learn something new this week.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Sure, Orlanda Cruz like he was never an amazing next
- 4:54Speaker 4: level fighter, but he had a solid record twenty five wins,
- 4:57Speaker 4: seven losses, two draws, thirteen ko out of those wins
- 5:01Speaker 4: he came out. Yeah, he came out in twenty twelve.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Of course, he had to deal with homophobia from the
- 5:06Speaker 4: boxing world, including from trainer Peter Fury, who is Tyson
- 5:09Speaker 4: Fury's uncle. His last fight was a twenty eighteen and
- 5:13Speaker 4: it was a draw against our friend Lamon Roach of
- 5:15Speaker 4: all people. So cru said he'd been in contact with
- 5:18Speaker 4: a few other gate boxers who hadn't come out, and
- 5:20Speaker 4: I just want to say, you know, hopefully the sport
- 5:21Speaker 4: can catch up with the times eventually and welcome more
- 5:25Speaker 4: openly gay fighters. So shout out to Orlando Cruz, No,
- 5:28Speaker 4: shout out to boxing fans.
- 5:29Speaker 2: He used the gay slers. We're off that shit.
- 5:32Speaker 3: So it's tough because here's a situation I don't care,
- 5:36Speaker 3: Like when someone is gay straight with her I person
- 5:38Speaker 3: don't care. I don't know what you do. But I
- 5:41Speaker 3: don't think we're mature enough as a community to deal
- 5:44Speaker 3: with a good boxer that is gay or bad. I
- 5:47Speaker 3: don't think we are mature enough. I don't think we
- 5:50Speaker 3: are ready for it. Like boxing is a different sport.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I don't think you understand the ruleness that comes with
- 5:57Speaker 3: the fan base of boxing, and I don't think I
- 6:00Speaker 3: just don't think we're ready for that. Could be wrong,
- 6:02Speaker 3: but I thowt they we're ready for that.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Well, I would just like for all of us.
- 6:07Speaker 4: You know, if if this show does anything, hey, maybe
- 6:09Speaker 4: somebody will listen to us and think, you know what,
- 6:11Speaker 4: these guys are cool. They're not talking shit about you know,
- 6:14Speaker 4: we get using gay as a slur for boxes or
- 6:16Speaker 4: anything like that. Plus, you know we talk about women
- 6:18Speaker 4: who fight all the time. You know this is not
- 6:20Speaker 4: a macho for men. Only manly sport. You know, there
- 6:23Speaker 4: are a lot of great women fighting out there, and
- 6:26Speaker 4: we're we're absolutely in sport of them.
- 6:28Speaker 2: So yeah, let's let's jump into the news.
- 6:32Speaker 4: So as always, I woke up this morning at the
- 6:34Speaker 4: krak of noon, went to the newsstand and got a
- 6:36Speaker 4: copy of the Boxing Gazette and right at front page news.
- 6:41Speaker 4: This past Saturday, May thirty, first, we had a major upset.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Caleb Plant lost by split decision to Adamannotics. In these
- 6:47Speaker 4: Plant's record now stands at twenty three wins and three losses,
- 6:50Speaker 4: all three of them to Mexican guys. Because he lost
- 6:53Speaker 4: to Canelo and David Benavidez Jamison spite was in Vegas.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Did you make it out?
- 6:57Speaker 3: Did not make it out? Unfortunately, however, it was wrong timing.
- 7:03Speaker 3: So here's the thing. That fight was the same night
- 7:06Speaker 3: as a Kindred concert, not a smart as susicion. Sorry, Like,
- 7:12Speaker 3: it's already tough getting down to the strip in that
- 7:14Speaker 3: area already. If you have another event in town, like
- 7:17Speaker 3: you gotta be mindful of that. And the tour skin
- 7:20Speaker 3: has been out since that timber, so there is no
- 7:23Speaker 3: excuse for this to take place. But no, unfortunately was
- 7:26Speaker 3: not able to make it out, but I did watch
- 7:28Speaker 3: and definitely surprised. But also, when boxers don't come in prepared,
- 7:33Speaker 3: you fuck around and find out. I think that's a
- 7:37Speaker 3: big thing we're noticing more is that when the boxes
- 7:39Speaker 3: down on their air game and they're fighting someone who's hungry,
- 7:42Speaker 3: they're gonna find out that this is not a walk
- 7:44Speaker 3: in the park, and sometimes they don't find out so
- 7:46Speaker 3: too late.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Well, on that note, did you think Plant was unprepared
- 7:50Speaker 4: or maybe you know, there's a difference between unprepared and
- 7:53Speaker 4: just the other person just had a great night and
- 7:56Speaker 4: you know, studied them well and all that.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I don't think he took the opponent seriously.
- 8:00Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 8:01Speaker 3: I think that's where more come from. I don't think
- 8:03Speaker 3: he took them point of seriously. But also when you're
- 8:05Speaker 3: a guy like Kayleb Plant that has something to lose
- 8:08Speaker 3: to where when you have a contingent fight based off
- 8:11Speaker 3: of this result, there are certain mindset I expect a
- 8:13Speaker 3: boxer to have when you're in that kind of stage,
- 8:16Speaker 3: that kind of situation, and when you don't bring your
- 8:19Speaker 3: egg game, I have some returns.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Sure, And I'm glad you brought that up because another
- 8:23Speaker 4: point I wanted to make during this fight, and that
- 8:26Speaker 4: just kept saying, Oh, for the next fight Jamal Charlow.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And Plant, you know, this would be the big one. Ba.
- 8:32Speaker 4: We're sitting up this fight, so I know that if
- 8:35Speaker 4: you're a boxer, you're always gonna be looking at you know,
- 8:37Speaker 4: what's my next move? What's my next move? But I'm
- 8:39Speaker 4: kind of getting tired of fights being billed as the
- 8:43Speaker 4: setup for the next thing, Like, can we just can
- 8:46Speaker 4: we just treat this like a big important fight because
- 8:48Speaker 4: they're all important, they're all they're all a big deal
- 8:51Speaker 4: because getting in that ring is a big fucking deal.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Every time you.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Know it is what it ain't though, because you remember,
- 8:56Speaker 3: you still got a market thing, So I understand why
- 8:59Speaker 3: it's done. However, it's one of those things where you
- 9:02Speaker 3: can do both. You can stress the importance of this
- 9:05Speaker 3: fight while also marketing the potential fight next.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Yeah, but I understand that.
- 9:11Speaker 4: I guess you know me, I'm always gonna go back
- 9:13Speaker 4: to movie references.
- 9:15Speaker 2: It kind of feels like.
- 9:16Speaker 4: When you're watching a movie, a comic book movie, and
- 9:18Speaker 4: they're talking about that they're setting up this guy is
- 9:20Speaker 4: the bad guy for the next one, and bringing up
- 9:21Speaker 4: this thing. I just want to sit there and enjoy
- 9:23Speaker 4: this damn movie. I don't want to think about what's
- 9:25Speaker 4: gonna happen six months from now, a year from now.
- 9:27Speaker 4: It takes me out of it just annoys me that
- 9:29Speaker 4: I'm like, I'm not here for Plant versus Charld, I'm
- 9:32Speaker 4: here for Plant versus the guy that's in the ring
- 9:34Speaker 4: with them.
- 9:36Speaker 3: I feel you, But here's the issue. The way that
- 9:39Speaker 3: we've always market and fights, especially when fighter contingent on results.
- 9:43Speaker 3: That's kind of all they know. They don't know how
- 9:46Speaker 3: to market without mentioning the next possibility. It's always the hey,
- 9:51Speaker 3: if this happens, this is next, instead of hey, let's
- 9:54Speaker 3: just figure out this one first and go from there.
- 9:56Speaker 3: It's always been a contingency based sport and a lot
- 9:59Speaker 3: of in a lot of stuations. That's fair.
- 10:03Speaker 4: I mean, I had the same complaints about the New
- 10:07Speaker 4: York Times boxing event where you know, Haiti and Garcia
- 10:11Speaker 4: were fighting, simple and they would not they would not
- 10:13Speaker 4: shut up about oh.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Haiti versus Garcia, event, Haiti versus Garcia.
- 10:16Speaker 4: It just it made what I was watching feel less important,
- 10:19Speaker 4: Like this wasn't I mean, obviously after the fact that
- 10:23Speaker 4: New York type of boxing thing was not important because
- 10:25Speaker 4: it was shitty, But that's either here or there.
- 10:28Speaker 2: It just it just dilutes what what I'm watching.
- 10:31Speaker 4: You know, I'm sitting there stoked to watch this fight
- 10:33Speaker 4: and all you're talking about, Well, the next one is
- 10:35Speaker 4: gonna be even better, you know what I mean.
- 10:39Speaker 3: I understand where you're coming from, but they gotta here's
- 10:42Speaker 3: the issue though, I think like this, whenever there's a
- 10:45Speaker 3: storyline or intrigue, you gotta sell it like you have to,
- 10:49Speaker 3: like you, they would be dis honest not doing it.
- 10:53Speaker 3: So I understand where you're coming from, and I actually
- 10:55Speaker 3: agree with you. Like you, they focus more on the
- 10:59Speaker 3: fight itself because it's disingenuous to the people watching that
- 11:03Speaker 3: you you think about something else that hasn't even happened
- 11:06Speaker 3: yet to what's going on here. I really one hundred percent. However,
- 11:10Speaker 3: you still got a marketing, especially his part of the
- 11:12Speaker 3: story white the rematch or a potential fight is a
- 11:15Speaker 3: parlor story of this fight as well, and that's fair.
- 11:20Speaker 4: All I'll say is that, you know, I just I
- 11:21Speaker 4: wish it took a different approach. But either way, the
- 11:24Speaker 4: plant to send these fight was awesome. Amanda to send
- 11:26Speaker 4: these was an excellent form.
- 11:28Speaker 2: You know.
- 11:28Speaker 4: He the last half was brutal man. He caught a
- 11:31Speaker 4: Plant with a couple of really good hopes. I think
- 11:33Speaker 4: around the seventh round wobbled him. Plant just never really recovered.
- 11:37Speaker 4: He never got back his mojo. And I'm excited to
- 11:41Speaker 4: see what Amanda to send these does next. You know,
- 11:43Speaker 4: he was a real uh definitely an underdog in this fight,
- 11:47Speaker 4: another fight that if it occurred to me, I would
- 11:50Speaker 4: have bet on because I was gonna bet on the
- 11:51Speaker 4: Mexican guy, of course, and it just I have to
- 11:55Speaker 4: I feel like I'm never gonna not bet again.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I feel like I've been.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Burned too many times between this at the Rolier Meryl
- 12:01Speaker 4: fight against Garcia, that I just missed the boat on.
- 12:05Speaker 3: I feel you, I understand. Before we move on to
- 12:08Speaker 3: the next topic, we had to also calm down on
- 12:12Speaker 3: the prospects. So there's a lot of energy around Carmaro Motin,
- 12:15Speaker 3: but we need to slow down a little bit, like
- 12:18Speaker 3: we need to slow down just a bit. There's a
- 12:19Speaker 3: little too much gas on it. And I feel that
- 12:22Speaker 3: whenever we see a spark in someone young, it feels
- 12:25Speaker 3: like we try to instantly compare him that greats and
- 12:27Speaker 3: we do it in every sport, but we do it
- 12:29Speaker 3: in boxing way too quickly, and especially when no one's
- 12:32Speaker 3: really fought anybody of record or similar talent as them.
- 12:37Speaker 3: So I just hope people kind of slowed things down.
- 12:39Speaker 3: We've seen too many young guys get put on a
- 12:41Speaker 3: certain veedestal and they fight real fights and they lose.
- 12:45Speaker 3: It changed everything. Like Adrian Brauner had a lot of issues,
- 12:49Speaker 3: and that's a whole different episode for another day, But
- 12:52Speaker 3: we tried to escalate his career so fast and we
- 12:55Speaker 3: found out he wasn't even that good, and then when
- 12:57Speaker 3: he got humbled, it was over. I hope that we
- 13:01Speaker 3: want to learn the lessons from guys in the past
- 13:03Speaker 3: when it comes to the under eyes that show talent,
- 13:05Speaker 3: and we bring them up accordingly and kind of have
- 13:09Speaker 3: similar expectations to their skill set into their situations that
- 13:12Speaker 3: to say, oh, they're the next the next that they're
- 13:15Speaker 3: the next PPV star. No, we need to, you know,
- 13:18Speaker 3: we take things.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Fight by fight, like you mentioned, No, I definitely agree
- 13:22Speaker 4: with that. I mean, I've been burned.
- 13:23Speaker 2: You know.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Jared, the big baby Baby Anderson was supposed to be
- 13:26Speaker 4: the next big heavyweight superstar and he's a talented fighter,
- 13:29Speaker 4: don't get me wrong, but.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Uh, I don't remember.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Actually where he's from, honestly, but they put him up
- 13:37Speaker 4: against Martin mccoley and he uh.
- 13:42Speaker 3: I remember, I remember. I remember. That sucks because we
- 13:47Speaker 3: try to or looking for the next star instead of
- 13:49Speaker 3: enjoying the good fighters that they are in their current state,
- 13:51Speaker 3: We're looking for something more that sometimes they're there, and
- 13:53Speaker 3: that's not fair to the fighter the times.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Right, So I had to look it up. Jared the
- 13:58Speaker 4: big baby, andocent is from a high actually yeah, And
- 14:02Speaker 4: you know, I remember the big old fuss everybody was
- 14:05Speaker 4: making about Niko Oli Walsh, you know, the uh to
- 14:09Speaker 4: his credit he always said and the interviews, you know,
- 14:13Speaker 4: they're really pushing my career because of my name and
- 14:15Speaker 4: my background. He never hid that. He was never like, oh, hey,
- 14:18Speaker 4: I'm a I'm the next big thing. I'm the you know,
- 14:22Speaker 4: the next superstar. He would always put it out there like, yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 4: you know, I got a lot of backing. They're really
- 14:27Speaker 4: believe in me because of my name, so you know,
- 14:29Speaker 4: to shout out to him for that, But yeah, I.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Agree with you.
- 14:32Speaker 2: It's kind of the same thing.
- 14:33Speaker 4: It's can we focus on the current fight fighter is
- 14:36Speaker 4: fighting and not worry about the next ten things they're
- 14:37Speaker 4: going to do.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Right that goes for him and and for Marvel movies
- 14:41Speaker 2: and Spider Man movies as well. Uh.
- 14:45Speaker 4: On the same night then we had plant Ver Citizen These.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Right before that, we had the return of Jamal Charlow
- 14:50Speaker 4: against the guy named Thomas Lamana. Did you watch that
- 14:53Speaker 4: fight against the guy nicknamed Cornflake?
- 14:56Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, thing I have. The Charlote brothers in general
- 15:01Speaker 3: kind of disappoint me because its talented as they seem,
- 15:06Speaker 3: and as much as they talk, we don't get the
- 15:08Speaker 3: performances to back those things up. We just don't like
- 15:11Speaker 3: for all the things we've heard, all things we've seen
- 15:14Speaker 3: flashes of we just don't really see it. We have
- 15:18Speaker 3: one guy been begging for a Canelli fight one guy.
- 15:21Speaker 3: It's just no, no, Like, I'm not a huge fan
- 15:25Speaker 3: at this point. Like I've seen enough to where I'm
- 15:29Speaker 3: not gonna go out of my way to see them
- 15:30Speaker 3: fight someone less. They're fighting a better fighter than that.
- 15:33Speaker 3: They got to fight somebody better. I mean, I'm gonna watch,
- 15:35Speaker 3: of course, but I'm not really too thrilled about it anymore.
- 15:38Speaker 3: They've had their chances to really make us make a
- 15:41Speaker 3: name and take a leap. I just ain't seen it.
- 15:43Speaker 3: But I've seen more out of the ring situations, ironically,
- 15:48Speaker 3: plant ironically in the last few years, but it's just
- 15:52Speaker 3: always something non boxing. The actual boxing itself has been
- 15:56Speaker 3: very underwhelming. Yeah, I know.
- 15:59Speaker 4: There's a differ between of course I'm gonna watch a
- 16:01Speaker 4: fight because it's on, and being invested in a fight.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Yes, yes, that's why.
- 16:05Speaker 4: I Yeah, I think, uh, I think I saw oh Man,
- 16:08Speaker 4: don't quote me exactly, but I'm pretty sure right before
- 16:11Speaker 4: the Charlo fight and said that second that he had
- 16:13Speaker 4: two fights in four years before this one or something
- 16:15Speaker 4: like that.
- 16:16Speaker 2: That's way too long. And now I'm.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Not gonna I'm not gonna do the thing the boxing
- 16:20Speaker 4: fans do when they haven't heard of someone and call
- 16:22Speaker 4: somebody and nobody blah blah blah. But also, who the
- 16:25Speaker 4: fuck is corn Flake? And why haven't I heard of
- 16:27Speaker 4: a dude? Was such a stupid nickname? Have you heard
- 16:29Speaker 4: of this tape?
- 16:30Speaker 3: Park? Did? Did you?
- 16:34Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 16:34Speaker 3: You know?
- 16:35Speaker 4: Cornflake? He he had, he had the technical skills, he
- 16:39Speaker 4: was just too slow on the draw. You could see
- 16:41Speaker 4: the way he was moving. He was doing the right
- 16:45Speaker 4: things you needed to do for defense. He just could
- 16:48Speaker 4: not defend fast enough against Charlo's Charlo's punches back, so
- 16:55Speaker 4: he you know, he also had a good record I
- 16:57Speaker 4: got to here, he was He's thirty nine, thirty nine
- 16:59Speaker 4: with six losses.
- 17:01Speaker 2: One draw, so you know, not.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Yeah nothing nothing, yeah yeah yeah.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Also another thing I noticed, when Cornflick was landing, you
- 17:12Speaker 4: could even tell there wasn't much power behind those fights,
- 17:15Speaker 4: those punches, compared to when yeah, Charlie, you could you
- 17:18Speaker 4: could hear that ship with Charlo landed on Cornflake.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Yes I did, I am no.
- 17:24Speaker 3: And then Charlo's gonna get a decent fight going forward,
- 17:26Speaker 3: because you know, this is like a tune up fight basically,
- 17:28Speaker 3: like hey, I'm around, so he'll get a better fight
- 17:31Speaker 3: going forward. But I need to see him versus someone
- 17:34Speaker 3: that's equally as talented, if not better, both of them, actually,
- 17:38Speaker 3: but I need to see them versus guys that are
- 17:40Speaker 3: equally talented, if not better, to see how they formed,
- 17:43Speaker 3: because I've kind of seen what I need to see
- 17:46Speaker 3: out of them, Like there's nothing really special. It's way
- 17:49Speaker 3: more gas than anything. And I'm not a fan of
- 17:52Speaker 3: getting gassed up when it comes to boxing anymore. I'm
- 17:55Speaker 3: tired of benefit of the doubts. I'm tired of the
- 17:58Speaker 3: oh well you know they're at home or oh no,
- 18:01Speaker 3: I'm tired. I need to see results. I need to
- 18:04Speaker 3: see results. Until then, I'm cool.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Well with that said, now that we've seen Caleb Plant
- 18:10Speaker 4: lose three times to Mexican guys, and we saw Charlotte,
- 18:12Speaker 4: you know, do do a great job against some guide
- 18:15Speaker 4: in porn flake, what do you think if they do
- 18:17Speaker 4: end up matching up? What do you think about Charlie
- 18:19Speaker 4: versus flat?
- 18:20Speaker 3: What's going on to me?
- 18:22Speaker 2: So?
- 18:23Speaker 3: Uh, you know, stick up is what it is? You know,
- 18:26Speaker 3: I mean I'll download to before it. It's not all
- 18:30Speaker 3: interesting right now, like they're gonna have to build that
- 18:32Speaker 3: back up, like you're gonna need to fight. I would
- 18:34Speaker 3: say between now and probably like October, just to get
- 18:38Speaker 3: things back rolling, because once once somebody lose, it just
- 18:41Speaker 3: shakes everything out like there's no there's no interest, no
- 18:43Speaker 3: more unless it's on the bottom en of a card.
- 18:46Speaker 3: It's a part of a car. Like let's say, I'm
- 18:48Speaker 3: not saying it's an afternoon fight, but it was like
- 18:50Speaker 3: the third fight before main fight. Okay, cool, but it's not. No,
- 18:54Speaker 3: it's no more like co feature or in the top
- 18:57Speaker 3: headlines that ain't hit no more. Nah.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Sure, sure, and you know, hey, maybe I'm Mando Sendys
- 19:03Speaker 2: couldn't take.
- 19:03Speaker 4: On Charlie or some other people in that weight class
- 19:06Speaker 4: and had built up his name because you know, he's
- 19:07Speaker 4: he's earned, he's earned his shot. He definitely had a
- 19:09Speaker 4: wonderful performance. Charlo had a very good performance against a
- 19:13Speaker 4: guy that just was wasn't on this level. No disrespect
- 19:16Speaker 4: to you, cornflake. Oh again, shout out to you, corn
- 19:18Speaker 4: flake for getting in that ring that always takes guts.
- 19:22Speaker 3: I will give him credit for being prepared. It looks
- 19:24Speaker 3: like he took the assignment seriously. And as all we
- 19:27Speaker 3: asked for from guys that we know of that are
- 19:29Speaker 3: still have their skill set is take the assignment seriously
- 19:33Speaker 3: when you're in a tune up fight or stay ready fight.
- 19:35Speaker 3: That's all we asked for. We don't have for anything else.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Absolutely, and uh yeah, for that particular fight, it went
- 19:42Speaker 4: five rounds and the doctor recommended it stopped right at
- 19:45Speaker 4: the beginning of the sixth, right when the bell rang
- 19:47Speaker 4: in the sixth round, And honestly, I'm I'm surprised the
- 19:49Speaker 4: rerec didn't stop at himself at the fifth because court
- 19:54Speaker 4: corn Flake was getting his ass frosted. Ah, you can
- 19:58Speaker 4: cut that out, we can, we can we get keep
- 20:02Speaker 4: him the drafts folder this saturdyday, dude seventh. Speaking of prospects, actually,
- 20:09Speaker 4: the Zone is going to have an event called Most
- 20:12Speaker 4: Valuable Prospect. The main fight is two women, Betris Ferreda
- 20:16Speaker 4: with an eye and Maria Freda with a wi. So uh,
- 20:19Speaker 4: this is med school that's got a lot of up
- 20:20Speaker 4: and comers nobody ever heard of. Beatris is six and oh,
- 20:24Speaker 4: Maria is eleven and zero. And the showcase will have
- 20:27Speaker 4: folks that you know, very very early in their career.
- 20:30Speaker 4: You know, they got a guy named are Vias Ingram
- 20:33Speaker 4: eleven or no, Alexis chapano four and o and Rene
- 20:37Speaker 4: t Is eleven or no.
- 20:38Speaker 2: So again names I haven't heard of.
- 20:40Speaker 4: But hey, you know we've talked about before that we
- 20:42Speaker 4: used to see people that are had you know, four
- 20:44Speaker 4: and O, six and oh, and then we're.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Not seeing enough of it.
- 20:48Speaker 4: I suffice to say, you know, I can't ignore that
- 20:50Speaker 4: this is Jake Paul's promotional company MVP, and the Zone
- 20:54Speaker 4: has been pushing the ship out of Paul because he's
- 20:56Speaker 4: a money maker. He's got his own fight coming up there.
- 20:59Speaker 4: We'll talk about it as it gets closer. But look,
- 21:02Speaker 4: I'm on the record, I do not respect Jake Paul
- 21:05Speaker 4: as a fighter.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I do not, straight up. I would have more.
- 21:08Speaker 4: Respect for him if he was taking his time in
- 21:10Speaker 4: his cloud and his money to put together events like this,
- 21:13Speaker 4: you know, for him up and covers that we want
- 21:15Speaker 4: to keep an eye on.
- 21:17Speaker 2: I think the biggest thing.
- 21:18Speaker 4: Though, for me to say is why is he the
- 21:21Speaker 4: one doing this and not the boxing veterans? Like where
- 21:24Speaker 4: where are all these young kids that deserve a spotlind
- 21:27Speaker 4: I don't know what you're thinking.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I believe it has to be something
- 21:30Speaker 3: financially based. That's not everything has to be something based
- 21:34Speaker 3: off finances because he's doing He's not doing just because.
- 21:38Speaker 3: I just think thats wherever's putting enough money together, where's involved?
- 21:42Speaker 3: They have picked who's involved because it makes financial sense.
- 21:45Speaker 3: No one's doing it just just because. Unfortunately right now,
- 21:49Speaker 3: Box is in a weird spot where you need to
- 21:52Speaker 3: have your promotion team. You have your team and everybody
- 21:56Speaker 3: you're well, all the sponsors on the same page because
- 21:58Speaker 3: right now, the money's not tricky. The money is just
- 22:02Speaker 3: very it's very committed. So it's committed to certain fighters
- 22:06Speaker 3: and certain companies. The days are just getting on a
- 22:09Speaker 3: card and fighting and getting a check are long gone.
- 22:14Speaker 3: That's that's going. You need to have your stuff straight
- 22:16Speaker 3: because what's happening is we're finding out guys are ready
- 22:20Speaker 3: to fight, they've been training, but there's no incentive to
- 22:23Speaker 3: put them on a car because they're not. There's no
- 22:26Speaker 3: one invested up having people watch them. And I think
- 22:29Speaker 3: going forward it's gonna be more of I'm not saying
- 22:32Speaker 3: content creators got's the business stretch, but boxers got to
- 22:35Speaker 3: have their business stuff in order all the way around
- 22:38Speaker 3: because things are things are changing and I don't know
- 22:42Speaker 3: if y'all have paid atention to our economy, but our
- 22:44Speaker 3: economy is changing as well. So if there's not an
- 22:46Speaker 3: incentive for somebody to actually tune in and watch you fight,
- 22:50Speaker 3: I don't know what's gonna happen.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Right And oh boy, it it kind of does burn
- 22:56Speaker 4: to give you a little bit heartburn to give Jake
- 22:58Speaker 4: Polony creditor know any any respect. But if his whole
- 23:03Speaker 4: thing is yeah, I'll fight with you on his own
- 23:05Speaker 4: and make you a show a little money. And also,
- 23:07Speaker 4: you know you bring this promotional event that I have
- 23:10Speaker 4: for my folks, people that I sign my up and
- 23:12Speaker 4: comers on as well.
- 23:13Speaker 2: You know that's a good use of your club.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Okay. That's people are always saying like, well, is are
- 23:19Speaker 4: the Paul brothers good or bad for boxing?
- 23:21Speaker 3: You know?
- 23:21Speaker 4: Did they bring people in? Blah blah blah, Like I don't.
- 23:24Speaker 4: I don't like that cliche conversation. You know, we've seen
- 23:26Speaker 4: the guy fight. His fights are not the spights of trash.
- 23:29Speaker 4: He's not a good fighter. He used this cloud to
- 23:31Speaker 4: bring Mike Tyson onto the ring. That doesn't Oh god,
- 23:36Speaker 4: I forgot the country girl's name. That don't impress me
- 23:38Speaker 4: much like this. However, if you're going to use your
- 23:43Speaker 4: cloud to do something like this and really showcase up
- 23:45Speaker 4: and comers, I will begrudgingly give you some respect on
- 23:50Speaker 4: this show, just not so much in public. You know
- 23:53Speaker 4: it's you can tell him joking on my words here
- 23:57Speaker 4: all got you?
- 23:59Speaker 3: But and also here's the thing.
- 24:02Speaker 2: But Paul, my brother, you don't have to fight.
- 24:04Speaker 4: You know, you can be a promoter, the guy promoting,
- 24:07Speaker 4: you know, the biggest bands in the world aren't up there,
- 24:09Speaker 4: you know, with Coldplay on a quitar on stage, you
- 24:12Speaker 4: know what I mean, the managers and all that stuff.
- 24:14Speaker 2: You don't have to be center stage.
- 24:15Speaker 3: But he can pay himself more if he fights, that's true.
- 24:18Speaker 2: That's true.
- 24:19Speaker 3: You know, he can get two checks one as a
- 24:22Speaker 3: fighter on a promoter, so you can technically right off
- 24:24Speaker 3: one of them if you decide to. That's fair.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Well, we'll talk more about the guy as it gets
- 24:31Speaker 4: closer to his fight with Javis Junior and July. So
- 24:36Speaker 4: let's see what else we got going on this weekend. Oh,
- 24:38Speaker 4: on the very same night, on Saturday two seventh, we've
- 24:42Speaker 4: got the return of Keishawn Davis or Virginia's own versus
- 24:47Speaker 4: Dominicano Edwin Delosantos shout out to dr In fact, this
- 24:52Speaker 4: fight has the potential to be loca, as Dominicans say.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Kishan is a talented fighter, but is now he's now
- 25:00Speaker 4: the recipient of like the most annoying title in boxing, which.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Is yeah, well, he doesn't flutter anybody. He doesn't fluted
- 25:05Speaker 2: anybody in a real competition.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Look, the man's thirteen to oh so far, you know,
- 25:10Speaker 4: he's how many more fights does he need to have
- 25:13Speaker 4: before he's no longer the guy who's never had a
- 25:15Speaker 4: lead competition like plus he is, he's a world champion,
- 25:19Speaker 4: he's got the WBO lightweight belt from this year.
- 25:22Speaker 3: That But also, here's the thing I said earlier, we
- 25:25Speaker 3: have to gradually have our guys come up like this
- 25:30Speaker 3: generation doesn't understand a boxer fighting twenty five fights when
- 25:34Speaker 3: he's a tyler shot. They don't understand that nowadays you
- 25:37Speaker 3: fight tenn fight fight for a belt. That was never
- 25:39Speaker 3: the case in the in the past. That's something relatively new.
- 25:43Speaker 3: So we're we're about on page. With that being said,
- 25:47Speaker 3: I expect him to put on a performance like when
- 25:51Speaker 3: you're the guy when you're labeled the next guy. I
- 25:54Speaker 3: need to see it, and I expecting it, and I
- 25:56Speaker 3: believe we'll get it. And he's at home too, so
- 25:59Speaker 3: I believe it is going to be a good showing.
- 26:02Speaker 3: But I gotta see it, and I'm expecting it. I expect.
- 26:05Speaker 3: I'm gonna watch with intentions of me being the guy.
- 26:09Speaker 3: He put it on performance. He's basically saying, Hey, this
- 26:12Speaker 3: guy doesn't belong in the same ring as me. That's
- 26:14Speaker 3: how I'm going to watch in the fight. Now that changes,
- 26:17Speaker 3: it changes, but that time going into the.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Fight, sure, and you know, I'm excited to look. I
- 26:22Speaker 2: am a fan. Shout out to Keisha. I am absolutely
- 26:24Speaker 2: a fan.
- 26:25Speaker 4: I watched him fight Dennis Barncheck on Valentine's Day of
- 26:28Speaker 4: this year at Austin. We talked about that in the
- 26:30Speaker 4: previous episode. Fantastic performance, had a great time, and yeah,
- 26:33Speaker 4: you know, maybe he he didn't get his he didn't
- 26:35Speaker 4: deserve let's say he didn't deserve his title shot early.
- 26:38Speaker 4: But he's still a young fighter and he is an
- 26:41Speaker 4: active fighter. He thought he's about three times a year
- 26:43Speaker 4: the last few years. You know, we've been complaining about
- 26:46Speaker 4: fighters not fighting enough for since the beginning of this
- 26:48Speaker 4: goddamn show.
- 26:50Speaker 3: So it's a big part of fighting a lot of times.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Sorry Country, I did not mean to cut you off there,
- 26:54Speaker 3: but a big time A big thing of staying active
- 26:57Speaker 3: is staying out bullshit. So that's a young guys. And again,
- 27:01Speaker 3: everybody's different, everybody's lifestyle is different. But the main thing
- 27:04Speaker 3: that the main reason why I want guys fighting more
- 27:07Speaker 3: is because the more time you're fighting, the more time
- 27:09Speaker 3: you're training for a fight, the more time you're staying
- 27:11Speaker 3: in shape. You're not in the clubs, not in the streets,
- 27:13Speaker 3: and not hanging around with bad people. You're not doing
- 27:15Speaker 3: dumb shit, not at tempted to do dumb shit, especially
- 27:17Speaker 3: when you're younger. The older guys I expect better from
- 27:19Speaker 3: them because they're older. But the young guys, I expect
- 27:22Speaker 3: them to fight multiple times a year because they stay ready.
- 27:25Speaker 3: And also, nowadays is in a different era where you
- 27:28Speaker 3: might get a title fight just based off of being
- 27:31Speaker 3: in game shape. You know, with somebody coming out last minute,
- 27:35Speaker 3: you might get a title fight with three weeks to prepare.
- 27:36Speaker 3: But if you already in shape, you're good. How many
- 27:39Speaker 3: times have we seen somebody take a fight last minute
- 27:42Speaker 3: and look terrible because they're not in shape and they're
- 27:44Speaker 3: just there for the check. It happens way too often.
- 27:47Speaker 3: But I'm a big believer of staying active as much
- 27:50Speaker 3: as possible because you just never know. And what Kishan,
- 27:53Speaker 3: The thing I like about him is he looks ready
- 27:57Speaker 3: and he feels like boxing the priority. Then it doesn't
- 27:59Speaker 3: feel like he's involved in anything else. You know, no
- 28:01Speaker 3: content creator, you know, trying to be a mobile It
- 28:03Speaker 3: feels like he's trying to be the best possible boxer
- 28:05Speaker 3: you could be, and I can respect.
- 28:06Speaker 2: It, sure absolutely.
- 28:08Speaker 4: I mentioned his last fight was just in February, and
- 28:11Speaker 4: who knows if after this one he might fight again
- 28:13Speaker 4: in twenty twenty four. That would make nine fights in
- 28:16Speaker 4: three years, which is you know, unheard of for the.
- 28:18Speaker 2: For the big names.
- 28:19Speaker 4: So uh yeah, and I totally get what you're saying
- 28:22Speaker 4: about there's not enough. You didn't get a title shot
- 28:25Speaker 4: after ten bites, but he did win the fight, and
- 28:28Speaker 4: I just I just don't like to get the boxing
- 28:31Speaker 4: experts in the Instagram comments being like, well he's fucked nobody, okay,
- 28:36Speaker 4: but he still fought a champion and he won. Don't
- 28:38Speaker 4: immediately write somebody off, you know, nobody.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Nobody title gets a little old because we're direspecting someone
- 28:44Speaker 3: that is actually is not a nobody. I think people
- 28:47Speaker 3: need to start using the world I'm not familiar with
- 28:48Speaker 3: that boxer or I've seen a whole lot, but nobody less.
- 28:51Speaker 3: It's true and nobody I hit. For instance, if you
- 28:53Speaker 3: and I started fighting professionals, we're nobody's in that craft.
- 29:00Speaker 3: You eating certain things and training a certain way and
- 29:02Speaker 3: not doing this, not doing that, you're not nobody. You
- 29:06Speaker 3: may be a guy that people don't know a whole
- 29:07Speaker 3: lot about, we're not nobody. That's very unfair because you
- 29:09Speaker 3: gotta realize these dudes are making sacrifices that no one
- 29:12Speaker 3: else is gonna make. They're making life sacrifices and doing
- 29:15Speaker 3: things that in ninety nine point nine percent of people
- 29:19Speaker 3: cannot do. So, yeah, nobody is a is a harsh term,
- 29:22Speaker 3: and I wish there's other terms we use because it
- 29:24Speaker 3: disrespectful action. Agreed.
- 29:26Speaker 2: I've never liked that.
- 29:27Speaker 4: I've I've and the thing I dislike the most about
- 29:31Speaker 4: things like that is just the cliches that boxes you.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Is like they only say like two or three things
- 29:37Speaker 4: fought nobody, or that you know, oh he's ducking Everybody's
- 29:40Speaker 4: ducking everybody.
- 29:41Speaker 2: There's always somebody that ducks somebody.
- 29:43Speaker 3: So the ducking thing is weird, right, because we come
- 29:46Speaker 3: from an era where gods from much fought everyone, like
- 29:50Speaker 3: Vanner Field, Oscar Aloya fought everybody, but they fought everybody,
- 29:54Speaker 3: and they fought often, like Shane Moseley fought everybody. The
- 30:00Speaker 3: Floyd and Packiach thing left the sour tastes in our mouths,
- 30:03Speaker 3: and since they got paid so much money. Everybody that
- 30:06Speaker 3: came up underneath them and after them, they feel that
- 30:09Speaker 3: they can mile themselves after that model, so they can
- 30:12Speaker 3: pick and choose fights and do things and blame other
- 30:15Speaker 3: people and the whole nine yards. And it's just like, no,
- 30:19Speaker 3: that's not how it worpacially at a young age. Like
- 30:22Speaker 3: if look, if you're thirty four, then yeah, you can
- 30:24Speaker 3: pick and choose who you want to fight. Why are
- 30:26Speaker 3: you ducking people at twenty seven? This is ridiculous. Like,
- 30:31Speaker 3: like I said, Oscar has been a wild boy. He's
- 30:33Speaker 3: done a lot of things. However, the one thing none
- 30:36Speaker 3: of us can you know, say he did was duck.
- 30:39Speaker 3: He didn't duck anybody. And I have a lot of
- 30:41Speaker 3: respect for him as a boxer because when Loser draw
- 30:44Speaker 3: he was ready to fight anyone. Now, I know he
- 30:46Speaker 3: needed the money because there's a lot of financial stuff
- 30:49Speaker 3: going on, but he fought everyone. We don't have that
- 30:53Speaker 3: same thing anymore, Like it's just not the same thing.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Well as part of it that you know, Floyd the
- 30:59Speaker 4: retire the zero losses and everybody wants to be Floyd
- 31:02Speaker 4: and the boys losing that that oh on the record,
- 31:04Speaker 4: is that part of it?
- 31:06Speaker 3: Yep? As part of it, but also the money part.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Floyd has basically said, hey, be your own entity. Don't
- 31:13Speaker 3: listen to a promotion company, Don't be this, don't be that.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Be your own man. So we got people making demands
- 31:20Speaker 3: and living a life that they don't have the skill
- 31:21Speaker 3: set for. You've got too many people trying to be
- 31:24Speaker 3: the boss, but they don't have a boss skill set
- 31:27Speaker 3: of all. Due respect to Shaker Stevenson, uh to Jonta
- 31:33Speaker 3: Ta Davis, to Boots, all the guys hani to a femo,
- 31:40Speaker 3: y'all ain't gonna to be ducky nobody. I'm sorry, y'all
- 31:43Speaker 3: are good talented guys. Y'all have shown a lot of
- 31:46Speaker 3: promise in different ways. I'm not trying to hear y'all
- 31:50Speaker 3: duck anybody, y'all, I'm not good enough for that. Like
- 31:53Speaker 3: I'm sorry. Like no, y'all need to fight the good
- 31:56Speaker 3: fight because right now, the biggest issue we have is
- 32:01Speaker 3: Gavante should be a household name for boxing. As for
- 32:04Speaker 3: what he does now, he has flaw. I'm not not
- 32:07Speaker 3: saying part of fighter, but for how he fights and
- 32:09Speaker 3: persona he lives on, he should be a household name
- 32:12Speaker 3: for boxing and right now we're entering at Dane rezone
- 32:15Speaker 3: where it's one fighter year territory. It's not good. It's
- 32:19Speaker 3: not good, a massive thing. We need more fights with
- 32:22Speaker 3: more people fighting teno few Mo. Lopez should not have
- 32:24Speaker 3: the power to duck anybody. Shouldn't. Like he has not
- 32:27Speaker 3: accomplished enough to duck anybody in this sport. Shouldn't. That's sorry,
- 32:34Speaker 3: and boots boots saving. He has done a lot in
- 32:38Speaker 3: the sport to get a name for where he's at
- 32:40Speaker 3: his age. But come on, man, we'll be talking about
- 32:43Speaker 3: why does he have a decision on who he should
- 32:46Speaker 3: be fighting? Who's no, No, this is ridiculous, It's truly ridiculous.
- 32:51Speaker 4: You know, we have a lot of complaints about the
- 32:53Speaker 4: boxing commissions, and you know they're they've they've done a
- 32:55Speaker 4: lot of should that just kind of has not been
- 32:58Speaker 4: great for boxing. We're all, but I think, why aren't
- 33:01Speaker 4: they just making more mandatory fights. Yeah, if you're saying like, well,
- 33:04Speaker 4: you're gonna do fight this here, you're gonna fight that guy,
- 33:06Speaker 4: and if not, I'm sorry, you know you'll pass you up.
- 33:09Speaker 4: Because that's the problem is that if you're not fighting.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Tank is a big name, yes, and but like you said,
- 33:16Speaker 4: he's maybe not a household name. He's not considered the
- 33:19Speaker 4: face of boxing. Million maybe should be. But the more
- 33:21Speaker 4: time you spend away, the more time people are gonna
- 33:23Speaker 4: forget about you because there's always the next guy ready.
- 33:26Speaker 4: It doesn't mean that you're a shitty fighter now, it
- 33:29Speaker 4: just means that there's always going to be somebody else,
- 33:31Speaker 4: a new kid on the horizon. And we're boxing is
- 33:35Speaker 4: a short term sport. You know, you're it's a short
- 33:37Speaker 4: term lifestyle.
- 33:38Speaker 2: You're not going to be.
- 33:39Speaker 4: Here, you know, probably in your forties. Maybe some folks
- 33:42Speaker 4: can come back in their forties. Maybe that's something a
- 33:44Speaker 4: conversation will have in a minute. But at the end
- 33:47Speaker 4: of the day, thirty is a senior citizen in this sport.
- 33:50Speaker 4: So you got to strike while they Aron is hot.
- 33:52Speaker 3: And also you're jeopardizing your fan base because if you
- 33:56Speaker 3: only fight once a year, unless of that fight is
- 33:58Speaker 3: like kind of lackluster. So you're saying that you might
- 34:01Speaker 3: go like eighteen months, well on like one fight. It's
- 34:05Speaker 3: just not a lot of you're not helping your family,
- 34:07Speaker 3: but people who pay your salary and who put the
- 34:10Speaker 3: money you pocket. You're not doing a lot for them,
- 34:12Speaker 3: and I think I think we've lost focus of that.
- 34:15Speaker 3: The boxing business, the business of boxing has taking the
- 34:19Speaker 3: fans for granted all the way around, from Bay per
- 34:22Speaker 3: view stuff to the where fights you can watch fights at,
- 34:26Speaker 3: to the price of tickets, to all that stuff. They've
- 34:29Speaker 3: taken us for granted, and the boxers basically cherry picking
- 34:32Speaker 3: opponents to make a bunch of money but not put
- 34:34Speaker 3: on compelling fights. I'm cool, I'm not not thrit about that.
- 34:38Speaker 4: So, you know, I think the last thing I have
- 34:41Speaker 4: to say on that is this, speaking of Tank, you know,
- 34:43Speaker 4: when he fuck Garcia went down to the neighborhood downtown,
- 34:48Speaker 4: not the originals in the ghetto of the Stabby one
- 34:50Speaker 4: there is they have like more upscale club type spot.
- 34:54Speaker 4: And there was a lot of people there, mostly Garcia
- 34:57Speaker 4: fans because it is two so a lot of Mexicans
- 34:58Speaker 4: here well, and but there there was a good continguent
- 35:01Speaker 4: to Tank fans. You know, when he came out, there's
- 35:02Speaker 4: a lot of cheers in the crowd, and I saw
- 35:04Speaker 4: a guy wave like a Tank Davis T shirt, and
- 35:06Speaker 4: I saw that, I was like, oh, hell yeah, I
- 35:07Speaker 4: want a Tech Dave's T shirt.
- 35:09Speaker 2: But then I thought, for a second.
- 35:10Speaker 4: I was like, Okay, if I wear a Tank Davis
- 35:12Speaker 4: T shirt, who the fuck is gonna know I'm wearing
- 35:14Speaker 4: a Tank David shirt, you know what I mean? Like,
- 35:15Speaker 4: if I'm just out in public, like I could wear
- 35:17Speaker 4: a Canelo shirt and people are like, oh yeah, even
- 35:20Speaker 4: if they're not even boxing fans, a lot of them,
- 35:22Speaker 4: you know, just a Mexican guy who doesn't follow boxing,
- 35:24Speaker 4: he'll know that.
- 35:25Speaker 2: But that's kind of like it's.
- 35:27Speaker 4: A very simplistic way of putting it, I admit, but
- 35:31Speaker 4: that's kind of what came to mind when I saw
- 35:32Speaker 4: that shirt.
- 35:33Speaker 2: I was like, it's a red shirt.
- 35:34Speaker 3: You know, I would wear it. But that's fair. But
- 35:37Speaker 3: the style of Tank Davis should be like a he
- 35:40Speaker 3: should be a household thing. We should know that, oh
- 35:42Speaker 3: he's fighting such as such, he knocks everybody out at
- 35:44Speaker 3: the time he fights. That should be a national thing,
- 35:47Speaker 3: not just a boxing thing. That should be not a
- 35:49Speaker 3: sports fan. That should be a household Oh shit, Tank
- 35:53Speaker 3: Davis fight. I gotta watch, but we're just not there yet.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Sure, And everybody, even if they weren't boxing fans, they
- 35:59Speaker 4: knew who Floyd was, they knew that he was fighting,
- 36:01Speaker 4: they knew if I was happening right back in the day. Yeah,
- 36:04Speaker 4: so yeah, you know, shout out to Takeishano. Abdullah Mason
- 36:09Speaker 4: is going to be on that card as well, and
- 36:10Speaker 4: up and comer, very talented young man. He's one of
- 36:13Speaker 4: those that I'm looking forward to seeing how he grows,
- 36:16Speaker 4: how he develops, and hopefully it's not one of those
- 36:18Speaker 4: where he gets into a big match and I go, oh, no,
- 36:22Speaker 4: what happened. But I've been wrong before, you know, Hey,
- 36:26Speaker 4: I'm never I'm never afraid to admit that when I'm
- 36:29Speaker 4: wrong and say that I have been wrong. But I'm
- 36:32Speaker 4: hoping I'm not on this one because Abdullah Mason, you know,
- 36:35Speaker 4: talented kid, and I want to see fixed up from him.
- 36:38Speaker 4: And yeah, another another guy is actively fighting, so fingers
- 36:41Speaker 4: crossing things go well for him.
- 36:43Speaker 3: So a good friend of mine once told me that
- 36:46Speaker 3: if you've been in this business long enough and ain't
- 36:48Speaker 3: got one long that you're not doing it right. Okay,
- 36:51Speaker 3: how it goes like you're gonna if you watch enough
- 36:53Speaker 3: boxing and you have an idea of a prospect, but
- 36:57Speaker 3: you know, I'm asking you a question. So you were
- 36:58Speaker 3: to ask me questions? Who was the one prospect where
- 37:01Speaker 3: you thought it was gonna work out. You just didn't
- 37:04Speaker 3: where He's like, okay, good, it looked good. We got
- 37:07Speaker 3: the skill sets, and it just never happened.
- 37:10Speaker 4: I think it was I already said I already said it.
- 37:12Speaker 4: Jared the big Baby Anderson, you know, he was getting
- 37:16Speaker 4: you know, lots of lots of early knockouts, lots of
- 37:19Speaker 4: knockouts and like early rounds never went distance. Edgar Burhlanga,
- 37:23Speaker 4: you know, he was what was it, He has like
- 37:26Speaker 4: eight or nine first round knockouts. So I was like, okay,
- 37:30Speaker 4: that's cool. I'm excited to see. You know, he's Edgar Berlanga, skilled, talented,
- 37:37Speaker 4: you know, a lot of power.
- 37:38Speaker 2: So I was very excited.
- 37:40Speaker 4: To see what he looked like when he you know,
- 37:42Speaker 4: fought real competition, and that just kind of went downhill.
- 37:46Speaker 4: I that's one we want to talk about, you know,
- 37:49Speaker 4: the not living up to the opportunity is he should
- 37:52Speaker 4: not have gotten the Canelo fight. Luckily, that was a
- 37:55Speaker 4: very entertaining fighter and I had a good time. But yeah,
- 37:58Speaker 4: I would say the biggest disappointment recently were Jared Big
- 38:02Speaker 4: Baby Anderson and Edgar Berlanga.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Adrian Broner for me, and when he was at one
- 38:08Speaker 3: thirty he looked like the goods he watched by that
- 38:12Speaker 3: was coming to be next. However, our producer and third
- 38:16Speaker 3: host on this show knows exactly what I'm want to
- 38:19Speaker 3: talk about. There's a picture of Adrian Browner doing adult
- 38:23Speaker 3: things in a place where he should not be doing
- 38:25Speaker 3: the mat and once that happened, we both said it's over.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Why we knew at that point that he's not serious
- 38:30Speaker 3: and it was over. We will discuss it off air
- 38:34Speaker 3: about what he was doing on stage details, but we
- 38:37Speaker 3: both saw that a picture and we thought the same
- 38:39Speaker 3: thing at the same time, and we were head of
- 38:41Speaker 3: the game because it was never the same after that.
- 38:43Speaker 3: And now Adrian Broner is doing them the cash app
- 38:46Speaker 3: scam on Instagram. So it's all bad, It's all bad.
- 38:52Speaker 2: It's all bad.
- 38:52Speaker 4: Well, okay, and another question on this very topic, So
- 38:55Speaker 4: what is the what is the biggest issue here with
- 38:58Speaker 4: these prospects that flame out. Is it that, yes, the
- 39:02Speaker 4: promoters are building them up without the real skills.
- 39:05Speaker 3: But here's the thing.
- 39:06Speaker 4: If you're building somebody up and they develop the skills,
- 39:08Speaker 4: you know, they might make a name for themselves. Or
- 39:11Speaker 4: is it that they're just not focused and they're doing
- 39:13Speaker 4: you know, stupid shit outside of the ring.
- 39:15Speaker 3: It's the focus with the elevated hype. So as the
- 39:18Speaker 3: hype grows, you've got to be more and more focused
- 39:21Speaker 3: because you got now you have a target on your
- 39:22Speaker 3: face and on your head. If you're not prepared for that,
- 39:25Speaker 3: then you're gonna get bad results. And unfortunately it's not.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Everybody's built to be focused, and then everybody's built to
- 39:31Speaker 3: be on point every time, and some people just don't
- 39:35Speaker 3: have the structure in their own lives. So now you're
- 39:37Speaker 3: giving somebody money, you get fame and expectations, and then
- 39:40Speaker 3: they're built to handle that, right.
- 39:43Speaker 4: And that's something I've said, we both said, you know,
- 39:46Speaker 4: there is a thing, a real issue, not just the
- 39:50Speaker 4: boxing and a lot of different things, but it's getting high.
- 39:52Speaker 2: On your own supply.
- 39:53Speaker 4: And that's probably that even even the big guys, even
- 39:56Speaker 4: you know, the big names, even you know, my boy Canelo,
- 39:58Speaker 4: I've said absolutely he's been high on don't supply when
- 40:00Speaker 4: he's taking out of fights, and uh, I think that's
- 40:04Speaker 4: what's I agree that that's probably the biggest killer of
- 40:06Speaker 4: these potential prospects with a lot of talent and just
- 40:09Speaker 4: you know, doesn't work out for them, So hopefully, hopefully
- 40:14Speaker 4: they can listen to the show and just you know,
- 40:16Speaker 4: think twice about doing stupid shit outside of outside.
- 40:19Speaker 3: Of the ring. Can you only have your You only
- 40:23Speaker 3: have a certain window to do what you're trying to do.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Some people's windows a year, some people's your windows fifteen.
- 40:29Speaker 3: You only got a certain amount of time to capitalize
- 40:31Speaker 3: on your peak earnings. And once it's gone, it is gone,
- 40:34Speaker 3: And you end up being the third fight on a card,
- 40:37Speaker 3: in the fore fight of a car. Then you end
- 40:39Speaker 3: up fighting before the before everybody starts finishing up the
- 40:42Speaker 3: chairs in the event. Are you fighting when it's sunlight out? Yeah?
- 40:47Speaker 3: You fight at three thirty pm when the main cars
- 40:49Speaker 3: are to seven. Ship went bad.
- 40:52Speaker 4: When you when you're only on ESPN Plus and you
- 40:55Speaker 4: see there's only like twenty people in the stadium, like
- 40:58Speaker 4: like the.
- 40:58Speaker 3: People who Plus on an iPhone. H Yeah, it's all bad.
- 41:02Speaker 3: I've done quick story though. We saw a mirror con
- 41:05Speaker 3: fight at three forty five on someone's card and I
- 41:08Speaker 3: think he won, but it was like it was maintenance
- 41:11Speaker 3: people in the crowd. It wasn't even family and friends.
- 41:14Speaker 3: They out there doing enjoying Vegas. It was just family
- 41:17Speaker 3: and friends and events setter up roots. That was it.
- 41:19Speaker 3: So again, you can go from headlining event to being
- 41:23Speaker 3: there with Janders real quickly. You don't take your shit.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Seriously, Yeah no, And you know I've I've never I
- 41:31Speaker 4: don't think I've ever tuned in. Even I as a
- 41:33Speaker 4: boxing super fan who loves fighting so much, never tuned
- 41:35Speaker 4: in that early.
- 41:36Speaker 3: It's not all no, that's so the TV don't start
- 41:38Speaker 3: tilling six. So when you go so they have an event.
- 41:41Speaker 3: So when they have any event, there's a bunch of
- 41:43Speaker 3: fights before y'all even get to watch on TV. There's
- 41:46Speaker 3: a gang of local fights, all kinds stuff, four round fights, six,
- 41:49Speaker 3: there's a gang of smaller events because it's a card
- 41:53Speaker 3: and you need to fill up the card. With that
- 41:55Speaker 3: being said, the TV starts around six, depending on the
- 41:59Speaker 3: little but normally six pm, three or four under cards
- 42:03Speaker 3: in the main event. That's normally how it goes. Sometimes
- 42:06Speaker 3: the ten starts at seven and then two under cards
- 42:09Speaker 3: and then the main just put him on. How it's
- 42:11Speaker 3: set up. But if you actually go to the venue
- 42:14Speaker 3: when the door's open at two pm, oh yeah, you
- 42:16Speaker 3: go see some ship, you see some round fights for sure.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Well shout up, speak a shot out to a mere con.
- 42:24Speaker 2: I say, always the brides maid, never the bride. I
- 42:26Speaker 2: like him though. He's kind of funny.
- 42:28Speaker 3: You know.
- 42:28Speaker 4: What was it something that he was accused of juicying
- 42:32Speaker 4: or having using pds or whatever, and he said, if
- 42:34Speaker 4: I did, I would have been better.
- 42:35Speaker 3: Come on guys, Yeah and mpds And I hope that
- 42:38Speaker 3: jaw that he's got.
- 42:42Speaker 2: He's got a sense of keber about himself. So I've
- 42:43Speaker 2: always I've always thought.
- 42:44Speaker 3: Him in deering. So he's rich, rich right like he
- 42:48Speaker 3: has ye.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, Like I don't know much about
- 42:53Speaker 2: his background his money comes from. But he seemed to
- 42:56Speaker 2: never really need this, you know.
- 42:58Speaker 4: Maybe maybe that's why he You know, the most dangerous
- 43:01Speaker 4: fighters are people that like can't go back to the
- 43:05Speaker 4: ghetto where they came from. You know, the people that
- 43:07Speaker 4: came from nothing, have nothing that if they lost they
- 43:10Speaker 4: they will not lose everything to go back. So correct,
- 43:13Speaker 4: maybe he never had he never had that hunger so well,
- 43:17Speaker 4: speaking of people who maybe missed their window when it
- 43:22Speaker 4: comes to fighting, speaking of people who are rich and
- 43:26Speaker 4: have a lot to have no reason to be in
- 43:29Speaker 4: the ring. The boxing world is buzzing because Manny Pacchio
- 43:33Speaker 4: will return to fight Mario Babrios on July nineteenth. Now,
- 43:37Speaker 4: this is a legit title shot for the WBC. Well, yeah,
- 43:41Speaker 4: so this is this is what I want to ask.
- 43:42Speaker 4: So we've talked about how you know, Mike Tyson coming
- 43:45Speaker 4: back against Jake Paul is not real boxing.
- 43:47Speaker 2: It's a showcase. We don't care.
- 43:49Speaker 4: Is it more legit? Do you care more? Because he's
- 43:51Speaker 4: actually up for a belters a sham? What's your what's
- 43:53Speaker 4: you're doing?
- 43:55Speaker 3: Taxes? You gotta fight when you over, when you o irs,
- 43:58Speaker 3: you gotta put them up. You know that's the wrong
- 44:01Speaker 3: way of getting income. You gotta you gotta fight until
- 44:03Speaker 3: you're clear with him. Them folks don't play. And I
- 44:06Speaker 3: think he owed taxes here and in the Philippines or
- 44:08Speaker 3: shit like that because the same people are talking about
- 44:11Speaker 3: the So everyone likes to talk about like you know
- 44:16Speaker 3: PBC and you know don King Bob Aram gets away
- 44:22Speaker 3: with murder, how he treats his boxers and sometimes the
- 44:26Speaker 3: band situations of those guys alt him. And you know,
- 44:29Speaker 3: from most of my knowledge, did really well with the
- 44:31Speaker 3: boxers money wise, probably too well, because that's kind of
- 44:34Speaker 3: the issue we're in now. But there's no way pack
- 44:36Speaker 3: yall should have had tax issues. There's no way ten
- 44:40Speaker 3: years ago that or no, it was a not not
- 44:42Speaker 3: to know it was ten years He thought maybe they're
- 44:44Speaker 3: ten years ago, and they both clear over one hundred
- 44:49Speaker 3: million dollars in that fight. There is no reason why
- 44:53Speaker 3: money is an issue. There's no reason why someone should
- 44:57Speaker 3: have tax problems after that. So that leads me to
- 45:00Speaker 3: believe something ain't right. Something we don't know something because
- 45:03Speaker 3: something that does not pass the smell test. And there
- 45:06Speaker 3: was no one hill after that night that anyone should
- 45:09Speaker 3: have issues. Goll through you one better. Floyd fought Connor McGregor,
- 45:12Speaker 3: and Connor gregor a hain't been oda gone since. So
- 45:15Speaker 3: something right with Pachia?
- 45:18Speaker 4: Okay, I am with you. I agree with everything you said.
- 45:21Speaker 4: And also, Maddy's a legend. He doesn't have to actually
- 45:25Speaker 4: compete for a belt against a guy who's thirty, you know,
- 45:28Speaker 4: to make his money. You know he can do a
- 45:30Speaker 4: showcause he can. He can come back and do I
- 45:32Speaker 4: don't know, fight a goddamn kickboxer. People will come out.
- 45:34Speaker 4: He could do a reality show. I don't know, people
- 45:36Speaker 4: will tune in if he can, which I believe he
- 45:40Speaker 4: can come back with some dumb little showcase that nobody
- 45:42Speaker 4: cares about. Why would he do this, like he said,
- 45:46Speaker 4: you know of course, Oh I love boxing. I've always
- 45:48Speaker 4: thought about it, and I want to come back and passionate.
- 45:51Speaker 3: What's funny, I'll tell you why he wins this one.
- 45:54Speaker 3: It sets up the next fighter for more money. Okay,
- 45:57Speaker 3: that's all it's for. He's not fighting, it's just because because,
- 46:00Speaker 3: like you mentioned, if that was the case, he can
- 46:01Speaker 3: fight the work so he can fight anybody like. But
- 46:04Speaker 3: this is for a purpose. You suck around to get
- 46:06Speaker 3: a belt at forty plus years old, there's there's intrigue
- 46:10Speaker 3: in you. Then you can start having conversations with other
- 46:13Speaker 3: boxers and next thing you know, he messed around fighting
- 46:16Speaker 3: you know whomever. I've heard want rumors, but we're not
- 46:20Speaker 3: going to go into that today. But yeah, there's a
- 46:23Speaker 3: payday for someone out there. I'll put it that way.
- 46:25Speaker 3: If he has a belt, there's a there's a huge
- 46:28Speaker 3: payday for somebody out there that normally wouldn't be out there.
- 46:32Speaker 4: Really, Romero already said that he would want to fight
- 46:34Speaker 4: many Yeah, okay, yeah, and then and again that's fair.
- 46:41Speaker 4: I'm just kind of wondering, Like you know, we talked
- 46:44Speaker 4: on this very show about George Foreman coming back in
- 46:46Speaker 4: the forties becoming the world heavyweight champion at forty five.
- 46:49Speaker 4: You know what's the and George Farmon needed money. We've
- 46:52Speaker 4: seen we saw the movie all that too, But the
- 46:54Speaker 4: man still pulled it off. Does many have the chance
- 46:56Speaker 4: to pull it off?
- 46:57Speaker 2: Or how about this? Do we think his hard is
- 46:59Speaker 2: even gonna be? I guess it's the question.
- 47:01Speaker 3: I would venture no, and no, I don't think he
- 47:03Speaker 3: would pull it off. And I think at that age
- 47:06Speaker 3: for his skill set is not good fighting younger fighters.
- 47:09Speaker 3: When you're that old and that kind of skill set
- 47:12Speaker 3: where you're not your punches lack power, and you're not
- 47:15Speaker 3: as sharp, it's just a very dangerous proposition. But and
- 47:20Speaker 3: also the motivation, like deep downside, you know, you don't
- 47:23Speaker 3: have to do this, Like you said, there's other ways
- 47:25Speaker 3: of getting money. But norm what we know about boxers
- 47:29Speaker 3: is the only reason they're still fighting at forty plus
- 47:32Speaker 3: is because they owe, and they owe a lot of money.
- 47:34Speaker 3: That's the only reason. That's it. There's no other there's
- 47:37Speaker 3: no other reason. But when I saw this fight. I
- 47:39Speaker 3: was like, Oh, he's trying to get another big fight.
- 47:41Speaker 3: He's trying to get one last big fight to make
- 47:43Speaker 3: a lot of money. Whether it's Roly, whether it's Tank,
- 47:45Speaker 3: whether it's whomever, whomever it might be. He's in the
- 47:49Speaker 3: position to get in there with a big name, draw
- 47:51Speaker 3: a lot of buzz, and then cash out one more time. God.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Okay, so Many is the underdog in this fight. So
- 47:58Speaker 2: I'm assuming you would I don't have that, give it
- 48:01Speaker 2: the addo.
- 48:02Speaker 3: I gotta see it first. I can't. You can't give
- 48:04Speaker 3: you no. I can't tell him any Congomy's tough right now?
- 48:08Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, you know, and Floyd is speaking of which
- 48:11Speaker 4: he said it's actually well, first he said it's a
- 48:13Speaker 4: cash scrap, which we can all see that, but he
- 48:16Speaker 4: also said it's unfair to younger fighters who are putting
- 48:19Speaker 4: in the work, you know, trying to get the shot
- 48:21Speaker 4: and for Many to come back, you know, after retirement,
- 48:24Speaker 4: and after his last fight was in August August of
- 48:26Speaker 4: twenty twenty one when he lost against York Nugas.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Mind you, so I don't know.
- 48:34Speaker 4: Legacy counts for a lot, you know, obviously that name
- 48:36Speaker 4: has a lot of weight to it. But should it,
- 48:39Speaker 4: I mean should we should we be seeing Manny coming
- 48:42Speaker 4: back in the ring and going this is ridiculous, this
- 48:45Speaker 4: is a shif, this is stupid.
- 48:46Speaker 3: You know that.
- 48:47Speaker 4: But again, people were actually intrigued to watch Mike Tyson
- 48:52Speaker 4: come back as a senior citizen to fight Paul.
- 48:54Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 48:55Speaker 4: I think it's more of a mindset thing of how
- 48:56Speaker 4: we as fancy. It's like you got to let your
- 48:58Speaker 4: guys go. Your guys are done, let him go, let
- 49:01Speaker 4: him right off into the sunset, and yeah, let him
- 49:03Speaker 4: make a goddamn reality TV show to make money if
- 49:05Speaker 4: they need to. I don't know.
- 49:06Speaker 2: That's that's my take.
- 49:07Speaker 3: Something to write a book, something, This ain't it though?
- 49:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, well let's just say you know what, Let's
- 49:14Speaker 4: say this, stay safe, Manny, stay safe in that ring. Yes, yes,
- 49:18Speaker 4: so yeah, maybe the maybe you can fight the loser
- 49:21Speaker 4: of Canelo versus Crawford.
- 49:23Speaker 3: No, no, that's not a safe that's safe.
- 49:28Speaker 2: So no, well, hey, Madia, bother is no slutch. You know,
- 49:32Speaker 2: he's he's a he's a good fighter.
- 49:34Speaker 3: So he's a younger fighter. Like it's just nah, I mean,
- 49:38Speaker 3: but he if you if you them people, if you
- 49:40Speaker 3: o them. People gotta do what you gotta do. If
- 49:42Speaker 3: you if you l I R S seven eight figures,
- 49:45Speaker 3: I get it, Like I get it. I ain't hating
- 49:47Speaker 3: on that, but they got me another way.
- 49:50Speaker 2: What he was a politic Mann, He was a politician
- 49:52Speaker 2: in the Philippines. I believe he was a senator.
- 49:54Speaker 4: So if you're like a senator, like a like a
- 49:57Speaker 4: full fledged politician, and you're not corruptly skimming money from
- 50:01Speaker 4: every you can, you're really bad at the job.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Like that's really the job. I know, it's just like.
- 50:05Speaker 3: Passing exact what are you doing? Anyway?
- 50:09Speaker 4: Funny, here's the thing I'm not even saying, like stealing shit.
- 50:13Speaker 4: And basically there are legit legal ways for politician to
- 50:16Speaker 4: shadely get a shitload of money from like you.
- 50:18Speaker 2: Know, contracts and this and that.
- 50:20Speaker 3: What what happened?
- 50:21Speaker 4: You know what I would I would be less likely
- 50:24Speaker 4: to vote for a senator who is broke after they
- 50:26Speaker 4: become a senator, you know what I mean?
- 50:28Speaker 3: Right, what the hell?
- 50:31Speaker 2: You're just clearly you're just clearly a dummy if you
- 50:33Speaker 2: can't make a shitload of bundy, you know, hold the
- 50:36Speaker 2: of federal office.
- 50:36Speaker 4: But anyway, yeah, shout out to well, we'll talk a
- 50:39Speaker 4: little bit more about this particular fight and say it
- 50:42Speaker 4: gets closer more about the undercard. I just kind of
- 50:44Speaker 4: wanted to get this out there and see, you know,
- 50:46Speaker 4: where we stood on the legitimacy, legitimacy of many coming
- 50:49Speaker 4: back in the ring versus you.
- 50:51Speaker 2: Know, for a title shot versus just a showcase. But yeah,
- 50:55Speaker 2: you know this is with the show.
- 50:56Speaker 4: It's always like things get announced, there are a few
- 50:58Speaker 4: months out, we talk about it, but then it always
- 51:00Speaker 4: comes back out because the fight is about to happen,
- 51:03Speaker 4: and you know, maybe some shit.
- 51:04Speaker 2: Happened, some drama in between, which is cool.
- 51:07Speaker 4: I just don't want to get into a situation like
- 51:10Speaker 4: Tank and Roach, where we talked about it for six months.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Over and over and over.
- 51:14Speaker 2: I'm like, Oh, just let the fight happen and get
- 51:17Speaker 2: out of my life, all right.
- 51:21Speaker 4: Does up next, we're going to get into our recurring
- 51:25Speaker 4: segment called pop Pugilism, in which we discussed a movie,
- 51:28Speaker 4: TV show, or documentary about boxing. Today we're talking about
- 51:33Speaker 4: a film from twenty thirteen called Grudge Match, directed by
- 51:36Speaker 4: Peter Siegel, starring from usis Loan, Robert de Niro, Kevin Hart.
- 51:40Speaker 4: For some reason Kim Basinger and the great John Berenthal
- 51:44Speaker 4: wasting his time. It's a movie about two fighters from Pittsburgh.
- 51:48Speaker 4: Stallone is Henry Razor Sharp and de Niro is Billy
- 51:51Speaker 4: the Kid Done and the laziest, dumbest screenwriter nickname for boxers,
- 51:57Speaker 4: like what's the easiest nick nackam I cold?
- 51:58Speaker 3: Come up with?
- 51:59Speaker 2: Kickity klapp raise the sharpened? Billy the Kid with Donna.
- 52:02Speaker 4: They fought twice in the eighties, so long quits before
- 52:05Speaker 4: the trilogy. Thirty years later, both fighters are convinced to
- 52:07Speaker 4: get into the ring as geriatrics. So there's a theme
- 52:10Speaker 4: in today's episode about it. Yeah, jameson, what did you
- 52:15Speaker 4: think about this? This twor de force of cinema?
- 52:21Speaker 3: So all right, So with all that being said, I
- 52:27Speaker 3: had to go out after round three, which means I
- 52:30Speaker 3: watched about thirty minutes of it and I hadn't go
- 52:32Speaker 3: on a towel. I couldn't do it, like after all
- 52:34Speaker 3: the good stuff we've watched, I couldn't go any further. Like,
- 52:38Speaker 3: I just could not. It was not it. It had
- 52:43Speaker 3: some names in there, had some big names, but it
- 52:45Speaker 3: was a very rough watch. And I try to value
- 52:47Speaker 3: my time like, I know, you try to value your time.
- 52:49Speaker 3: I personally could not do it. With all due respect
- 52:53Speaker 3: to the names that were in the movie.
- 52:57Speaker 2: With you, this movie, I watched the whole thing straight up.
- 53:00Speaker 2: This movie sucks. It sucks shit.
- 53:03Speaker 3: It was really it was the point where I was trying,
- 53:06Speaker 3: and then ten minutes later I was like, nah, I
- 53:09Speaker 3: just can't do it.
- 53:10Speaker 4: Like no, I had to watch it in shifts. I
- 53:13Speaker 4: took like three shifts to watch it because it was
- 53:16Speaker 4: a tough, tough watch.
- 53:18Speaker 2: So Jesus where to start. Well, first of all, it's
- 53:20Speaker 2: almost two hours, it's an hour and fifty minutes. And
- 53:22Speaker 2: then there's.
- 53:24Speaker 4: Yeah, the So I saw the trailer years ago. I
- 53:27Speaker 4: don't know what I expected. I saw it and I
- 53:29Speaker 4: thought that looks dumb. But I did not expect it
- 53:33Speaker 4: to try to be a comedy. And it's even worse
- 53:36Speaker 4: because it's aggressively unfunny, like all the comedy fell flat.
- 53:42Speaker 4: There's only they actually only have two jokes. It's you're
- 53:44Speaker 4: old a europeussy, Like that's basic.
- 53:48Speaker 3: It felt like they threw some names in there just
- 53:51Speaker 3: to have some star power. But it felt forced. It
- 53:54Speaker 3: didn't feel genuine. It felt real, real force and for me,
- 53:59Speaker 3: it just wasn't it. It just wasn't at all. I
- 54:01Speaker 3: was just like, nah, like we gotta get back to
- 54:05Speaker 3: documentary or something, because it's like it wasn't me it was.
- 54:08Speaker 3: It was not like boxing boxing either, right, it's not
- 54:10Speaker 3: even like it's not something that happened or is depicting
- 54:14Speaker 3: something like this is isn't it? Is it?
- 54:18Speaker 2: I'll take the blame on this.
- 54:19Speaker 4: I picked it for it because I wanted to watch
- 54:22Speaker 4: something kind of dumb and to make fun of. But
- 54:24Speaker 4: this was like way worse than I expected. I thought
- 54:26Speaker 4: it was just like, oh, this is silly, silly, it's
- 54:29Speaker 4: actually embarrassing. I'm sorry, it's embarrassing. So what they do
- 54:33Speaker 4: at the beginning is when stallone and and the Nero's
- 54:35Speaker 4: characters are young, and then their first fights they do
- 54:38Speaker 4: the worst like CGI put the actor's face on a
- 54:41Speaker 4: younger guy thing and it looks like dog shit. It's
- 54:46Speaker 4: just it's they basically turned into a cartoon for for
- 54:49Speaker 4: those flashbacks.
- 54:49Speaker 2: It's it's rough.
- 54:52Speaker 4: The actual fighting, the actual match between the two of
- 54:56Speaker 4: at the end, it looks like too Grandpa's in the ring.
- 54:58Speaker 4: All they're doing is just like throw swing hooks back
- 55:00Speaker 4: and forth, back and forth. There's nothing that looks like
- 55:03Speaker 4: real boxing at all. There's nothing in this that even
- 55:05Speaker 4: looks like actual fighting. It's just like I said, this
- 55:09Speaker 4: guy shows a hook. This guy shows a hook. This
- 55:10Speaker 4: guy baby slips and does another hook. It's you know
- 55:14Speaker 4: what this this is the type of movie that's for grants.
- 55:17Speaker 4: They this is called a geezer pleaser. This is specifically
- 55:20Speaker 4: for old folks to slap their knees at the at
- 55:23Speaker 4: the Rocky references right right, there is a terrible scene
- 55:28Speaker 4: where they promote their fight at an MMA match at
- 55:32Speaker 4: the beginning of an MM match, and I don't.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Even like HMMA, Like I don't care. We neither of us.
- 55:36Speaker 4: We've talked about how we don't watch it, we don't
- 55:38Speaker 4: care about it. But the whole thing in this movie was, yeah,
- 55:41Speaker 4: MMA is so gay. It's like they ask the guys
- 55:45Speaker 4: if they're fans.
- 55:45Speaker 2: Are just stillone's like, ooh, I don't like watching guys
- 55:48Speaker 2: rolling around the floor in my fights.
- 55:51Speaker 4: And somebody's fucking grandpa in the theater was just like
- 55:55Speaker 4: hep slapping the knees, you know, elbowing his friends. It's
- 55:59Speaker 4: it's bad, It's it's not clever. I've watched Kevin Hart's
- 56:04Speaker 4: stand up when he has made me laught few TETs
- 56:06Speaker 4: here and there, Like I think he made me.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Laugh once in this movie.
- 56:11Speaker 4: The worst part, the worst what's worse than the comedy
- 56:13Speaker 4: is when it tries to be like heartfelt and emotional
- 56:16Speaker 4: and shony pathos and it's god, it's it's hard to
- 56:20Speaker 4: even find more adjectives to just take to terrible.
- 56:23Speaker 2: You know, John Berthal, I love the man, one of
- 56:27Speaker 2: my favorite actors.
- 56:28Speaker 3: I bet you he was.
- 56:29Speaker 4: Thrilled you tell him like, oh I get to be
- 56:30Speaker 4: in a movie with Robert de Niro. I love John Bernthal.
- 56:33Speaker 4: He had some probably didn't have much heat on him
- 56:36Speaker 4: at this time. Now he's like hot commodity for the
- 56:39Speaker 4: Walking Dead. He's the punisher, you know, he's the movies.
- 56:42Speaker 4: But the poor guy he's doing, he's really trying. He's
- 56:45Speaker 4: he's a talented actor. He's really trying to make this
- 56:47Speaker 4: movie work. And like I said, he is just wasting
- 56:49Speaker 4: his time.
- 56:52Speaker 3: You know what, I think.
- 56:53Speaker 4: You know it's probably the same. I don't know if
- 56:55Speaker 4: it's the same. And from your neck of woods, but there,
- 56:58Speaker 4: when you get to a certain age, the DNB will
- 57:01Speaker 4: only give you a driver's license for like four years
- 57:03Speaker 4: at a time. Yeah, yeah, we need to do that
- 57:06Speaker 4: with actors. I don't care how much of a legend
- 57:08Speaker 4: you are. When you reach a certain age, like DeNiro,
- 57:11Speaker 4: you get to make like two or three movies in
- 57:13Speaker 4: four years, and if they're just not working, I'm sorry,
- 57:16Speaker 4: mandatory retirement. We're taking your fucking sad cart away. You
- 57:20Speaker 4: know what, you had, your chance, you had, you had
- 57:22Speaker 4: an amazing career. What do you do in making grudge match?
- 57:25Speaker 4: Or like, what was it like Dirty Grandpa? I think
- 57:28Speaker 4: he was in that terrible Last Vegas movie. It's don't
- 57:33Speaker 4: respect your legacy, dammit you DeNiro stallone Mani Pacquiao.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Respect your legacy and don't do stuff like this in
- 57:40Speaker 2: your old age, is what I have to say.
- 57:42Speaker 3: So yeah, uh oh.
- 57:45Speaker 2: One more thing.
- 57:47Speaker 4: There's this band, the s British band called the Heavy.
- 57:50Speaker 4: Nobody knows it by that name, but you have heard
- 57:53Speaker 4: of them because they have the song the how You
- 57:56Speaker 4: Like Me Now?
- 57:56Speaker 3: Song? Okay, it's in this movie.
- 57:59Speaker 4: It's in so many movies, in so many commercials. If
- 58:02Speaker 4: you heard the song, you know it. I don't know
- 58:05Speaker 4: this band. If like they're British. Maybe they have like
- 58:08Speaker 4: a picture of somebody from the royal family doing something illegal,
- 58:11Speaker 4: like literally like eating a baby or something. Because this band,
- 58:15Speaker 4: their songs are in every movie trailer. They have two
- 58:20Speaker 4: songs in this movie. There are songs I heard that
- 58:23Speaker 4: band come up again and I'm like, why the hell
- 58:26Speaker 4: is the Heavy have such cloud?
- 58:28Speaker 2: I'm sorry, and it's on it. It's been on Entourage,
- 58:30Speaker 2: it's been in the Fighter with Mark Wahlberg.
- 58:34Speaker 3: Uh.
- 58:35Speaker 4: That song is like it's like a cancer from the
- 58:38Speaker 4: early two thousands and early odds that it just won't die.
- 58:43Speaker 4: So with that said, we usually rate movies out of
- 58:47Speaker 4: four gloves. Jamison, Well, would you rate this movie?
- 58:54Speaker 3: Yeah, no, contest, you won't even rate it. Aby. That'so
- 59:01Speaker 3: point five out of four.
- 59:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's what I was thinking.
- 59:05Speaker 4: This point five, Like the point five goes to John
- 59:08Speaker 4: berthal because you know, I love the man. He's a
- 59:11Speaker 4: great punisher and like I said, he's trying. But man,
- 59:16Speaker 4: here's the thing I'm kind of I'm hoping that John
- 59:18Speaker 4: Berthall doesn't have to go back to doing crap like this,
- 59:20Speaker 4: Like his star is rising. He hasn't really led a
- 59:23Speaker 4: movie yet. I think he deserves it. But yeah, point
- 59:26Speaker 4: five gloves for John Birthal. I'm glad you got to
- 59:30Speaker 4: work with the Nero. I'm sure he's probably one of
- 59:31Speaker 4: your idols. But please don't watch this movie. Don't waste
- 59:34Speaker 4: your time. Right, all right, let's get out of here. Jamison,
- 59:38Speaker 4: Where can people find you?
- 59:39Speaker 2: On social media?
- 59:40Speaker 3: Twitter? At the Jamison Vere I'm at I'm watching the fights,
- 59:44Speaker 3: always interested in the fights and whatnot. But yeah, we
- 59:48Speaker 3: got a lot of stuff coming up soon, so I
- 59:49Speaker 3: can't wait. But at the Jamison on Twitter excellent.
