- 0:21Speaker 1: Welcome the Eagles postgame analysis here at the Philadelphia Sports
- 0:24Speaker 1: Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast
- 0:27Speaker 1: show in the world, over eleven and a half years strong.
- 0:29Speaker 1: The Philadelphia Eagles here in Week sixteen, losing to the
- 0:34Speaker 1: Washington Commanders by a score of thirty six to thirty three.
- 0:37Speaker 1: The Eagles are now twelve and three on the season.
- 0:41Speaker 1: In a very very disappointing game that we watched that
- 0:44Speaker 1: was coming to you from Washington while technically landover Maryland.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I guess I'm Jeff Warren. I am here with my
- 0:50Speaker 1: good buddy from the honorable mentioned podcast. Should subscribe on
- 0:54Speaker 1: YouTube and also on Apple Podcasts. That's where I listen
- 0:57Speaker 1: to the honorable mentioned podcast. Listen on whatever platform you're
- 1:00Speaker 1: listening to us on. Again, the Eagles losing Week sixteen here, Matt,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I kind of had a feeling it was coming to
- 1:08Speaker 1: have ten wins in a row, which is difficult in
- 1:11Speaker 1: itself to do in the NFL. Eleven though, I thought
- 1:14Speaker 1: was going to be a tall task when this Eagles
- 1:16Speaker 1: team is on the road. Lots of themes to get into,
- 1:20Speaker 1: Buddy on this particular podcast, a show in Eagles post
- 1:24Speaker 1: game we got to get into it. We saw Jalen
- 1:27Speaker 1: Hurts heading out in the first quarter after it appeared
- 1:29Speaker 1: that he had a head injury. Kenny Pickett came in,
- 1:32Speaker 1: he went three for three, threw a touchdown. I think
- 1:34Speaker 1: a lot of us were you know, who are sitting
- 1:36Speaker 1: on our couches, are thinking, okay, all right, not right,
- 1:38Speaker 1: not bad. And then Hurtz goes back into the locker
- 1:41Speaker 1: room to be evaluated for a concussion. Then we're like,
- 1:44Speaker 1: oh no, oh no, and he wasn't coming back out
- 1:46Speaker 1: when like oh no. Then Kenny Pickett throws an interception
- 1:49Speaker 1: and we're like, oh, dear God, please Jalen be okay,
- 1:52Speaker 1: be okay. He is not okay and has a concussion.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Gave Washington that interception that cany Pickett through that first
- 1:59Speaker 1: one gave gave Washington really good field position, and then
- 2:02Speaker 1: Jayden Daniels ended up throwing a touchdown pass to Jamison Crowder.
- 2:05Speaker 1: It was and it was right at that moment, that
- 2:09Speaker 1: moment Matt, that level of unease just scept or receieping,
- 2:13Speaker 1: I should say, right into my body. That feeling of
- 2:17Speaker 1: not having Jalen Hurts under center a very weird feeling
- 2:20Speaker 1: to know that we were going to be seeing this
- 2:21Speaker 1: for then the rest of the game, and this offense
- 2:25Speaker 1: certainly performed much differently without him under center.
- 2:28Speaker 2: My friend I I so thmes. I want to say
- 2:33Speaker 2: for all the listeners appreciate Jalen Hurts. That's just what
- 2:36Speaker 2: he's able to do in the passing games, because there
- 2:39Speaker 2: are some throws that Kenny Pickett just flat out missed.
- 2:42Speaker 2: There were open running lanes that Kenny Pickett just flat
- 2:45Speaker 2: out missed.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yep.
- 2:46Speaker 2: There were five yard runs from Kenny Pickett that we
- 2:49Speaker 2: were all excited about jumped out of our seats, but
- 2:52Speaker 2: that were twenty five yard runs or or way more
- 2:55Speaker 2: effective places from Jalen Hurts. So that's one thing. There's
- 2:58Speaker 2: also the un noticed thing about what Jalen Hurts has
- 3:02Speaker 2: done and people have kind of not spoken about this
- 3:06Speaker 2: and all the great talk about how well Saquon Markley
- 3:09Speaker 2: has played this year, is that is that the way
- 3:13Speaker 2: that they're that that exchange goes with the option, that
- 3:18Speaker 2: pulling back, having to that backside defender having to hold
- 3:25Speaker 2: and not collapse. In on Saquon, you can totally see
- 3:28Speaker 2: in this game when the guy's basically like screw it.
- 3:31Speaker 2: If Kenny Pickett comes out the back door for ten yards,
- 3:35Speaker 2: then I'll live with that.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Exactly. We're not gonna around with Kenny Pickett, you know.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Exactly, We're gonna just go right in and they just
- 3:45Speaker 2: shut off the running game. And I want to say,
- 3:48Speaker 2: you know, to all those folks, I mean, give all
- 3:50Speaker 2: the credit to Saquon. Saquon has played amazingly this year.
- 3:53Speaker 2: But this idea that any quarterback could just step into
- 3:58Speaker 2: the eagle, you know, and manage all this and make
- 4:02Speaker 2: sat Quan be as efficient as he is. Let's put
- 4:05Speaker 2: that to bed here today. Absolutely, that's what I would say.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Absolutely, Matt, I don't care if I don't care if
- 4:10Speaker 1: this podcast platform loses listeners for this. All you dopes
- 4:15Speaker 1: that have been critical of Jalen Hurts, Oh dude, you
- 4:18Speaker 1: can't throw over the middle. Oh he's not able.
- 4:21Speaker 2: To do this.
- 4:21Speaker 1: He's not able to do that. You shut up, people.
- 4:25Speaker 1: We saw Matt just described to you what he has
- 4:28Speaker 1: meant from this team. From a pure football perspective. He
- 4:32Speaker 1: is not the most perfect quarterback in the league. He's
- 4:35Speaker 1: probably not the top three quarterbacks in the league. Definitely
- 4:37Speaker 1: a top ten quarterback in this league for sure, But
- 4:42Speaker 1: the intangibles because of his athleticism, what he is able
- 4:46Speaker 1: to do on the field. If you want Kenny Pickett
- 4:49Speaker 1: feel free. We saw him. We saw him, folks, we
- 4:51Speaker 1: saw what he is able to do. He looked like
- 4:54Speaker 1: the guy from Pittsburgh who he saw for the past
- 4:57Speaker 1: two seasons.
- 4:58Speaker 2: That's what Kenny.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Pickett looked like. There was some good, but guess what,
- 5:01Speaker 1: there were a lot of inaccurate throws and was a
- 5:03Speaker 1: lot of bullshit too coming from Kenny Pickett. And I
- 5:06Speaker 1: wish each and every one of you dopes out there
- 5:09Speaker 1: who are Jalen Hurts haters realize no and understand now
- 5:14Speaker 1: after this game what he means to this team. It
- 5:18Speaker 1: doesn't mean that the defense. It's all about the defense
- 5:20Speaker 1: trying to keep keep this team alive. No, it's not,
- 5:24Speaker 1: it's not. It's Jalen Hurts and it's in tangibles. And yes, yeah,
- 5:29Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm yeah. Fucking people out on the exactly.
- 5:33Speaker 2: All of what you're saying, and it's complementary football. You
- 5:37Speaker 2: guys are all upset about these things, these parables. You
- 5:40Speaker 2: guys are saying that Jalen is just giving you these
- 5:43Speaker 2: beautiful words. No, listen to what he's saying. He's saying
- 5:45Speaker 2: that the team is playing complimentary football. If I've got
- 5:49Speaker 2: the ball out of sixty minutes and we're hammering you
- 5:52Speaker 2: with quarterback counter runs, we're hitting you with sweeps, we're
- 5:56Speaker 2: hitting you for six yards, it's not pretty. But Jalen
- 5:59Speaker 2: is completely seventy percent of his passes in sixty rushing
- 6:03Speaker 2: yards a game. He's got two three rushing touchdowns. And
- 6:06Speaker 2: our team has the ball for thirty six thirty seven minutes.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Our defense is getting a breather. That defense was tired.
- 6:16Speaker 2: They get a pick and Kenny Pickett put him right
- 6:18Speaker 2: back out on the field. Folks, Yeah, you gotta recognize
- 6:22Speaker 2: that it's this isn't Madden with the damn fatigue turn off.
- 6:26Speaker 2: These people are tired. It's twenty degrees outside. These are
- 6:31Speaker 2: real human beings. Like yep, complimentary football, folks, put some
- 6:36Speaker 2: damn respect on this man, Jalen Hurt's name.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Absolute.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yah. They put up thirty three points today, but that
- 6:42Speaker 2: was with a guy who nobody after today, nobody's looking
- 6:47Speaker 2: at Kenny Pickett like, oh, maybe he should be our
- 6:49Speaker 2: guy week one.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Day exactly exactly. I mean, there's people saying that Tanner
- 6:54Speaker 1: McKee should have been in instead of Kenny Pickett. Maybe
- 6:58Speaker 1: that is the case. I'm gonna say, yeah, before we
- 7:01Speaker 1: get off the Jalen Hurts stuff here, his injury, what
- 7:03Speaker 1: it meant for this game too, I will say I'm
- 7:05Speaker 1: a bit pissed Matt that the rest didn't call penalty
- 7:08Speaker 1: on Frankie Louvo who put the hit on Jalen Hurts
- 7:11Speaker 1: and it appeared appeared to be a targeting call as
- 7:13Speaker 1: Hurts was going to the crowd. Yeah, it was. I
- 7:16Speaker 1: mean it was very reminiscent quite frankly when Carson Wentz
- 7:19Speaker 1: went downwards concussed by Jendavian Clowny years ago. Yes, yes,
- 7:22Speaker 1: and Eagles still don't get a call on it. It's
- 7:24Speaker 1: absolutely amazing to me anyway. I just wanted to throw
- 7:26Speaker 1: that out there and to call out all the dopes
- 7:29Speaker 1: out there who piss and moan and bitch and gripe
- 7:33Speaker 1: about Jalen Hurts. Just shut up from here on out,
- 7:36Speaker 1: a bunch of fucks. I'm sorry. I can't. I can't.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I can't take it. Probably wouldn't be talking.
- 7:40Speaker 2: About he started sixty five games. Yes, you guys have
- 7:45Speaker 2: against you guys, will he has started sixty five football
- 7:48Speaker 2: games and your team won forty six of them. Yep.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Yes, Oh we don't like him. We don't throw her
- 7:56Speaker 1: in the middle of the field. Look, I mean I wish,
- 7:58Speaker 1: I wish, I wish there'd be more throws over the
- 8:00Speaker 1: middle of field. But guess what.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Wins talked about it here?
- 8:02Speaker 1: Yes, wins or wins though too and you know what
- 8:05Speaker 1: a cohesive offense. That's saying something in this league too.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Uh.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Yes, we could keep going on and on about this
- 8:11Speaker 1: for an hour, but I did want to mention injuries
- 8:14Speaker 1: were a key in this game and certain guys not
- 8:16Speaker 1: being on the field. Josh Swett went out with an
- 8:18Speaker 1: ankle injury in the second quarter. Yeah, he did come
- 8:20Speaker 1: back in the fourth. Will Shipley not that he's necessarily
- 8:22Speaker 1: a major contributor by any stretch, but he went out
- 8:24Speaker 1: with a concussion on special teams. Jordan Davis went out
- 8:28Speaker 1: at one point in this game. I mean he was
- 8:30Speaker 1: he had to be helped off the field. Darius Slay
- 8:32Speaker 1: went out in the fourth, but he came back. There
- 8:34Speaker 1: were a lot of injuries in this game, and if
- 8:37Speaker 1: we shift over to the defense really quick, Matt, I
- 8:39Speaker 1: wanted to talk about one guy who was really having
- 8:41Speaker 1: an impact I thought in this game, which was CJ.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Gardner Johnson nice interception right before halftime. It was the
- 8:48Speaker 1: fourth of his season. At that point in the game,
- 8:51Speaker 1: he was leading the Eagles team in interceptions. Then he
- 8:54Speaker 1: was ejected in the third quarter for his second one
- 8:56Speaker 1: sportsman like conduct penalty, right, and.
- 8:58Speaker 2: It was did you see what happened? I didn't know
- 9:00Speaker 2: what happened on the second one?
- 9:01Speaker 1: No, I didn't.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Has anyone seen what happened?
- 9:06Speaker 1: I would love to I would love to know. But
- 9:08Speaker 1: it was significant Matt not having him out there on
- 9:10Speaker 1: the field, especially in the first quarter when Jane Daniels
- 9:14Speaker 1: throw a touchdown pass to a lot of days of
- 9:16Speaker 1: kas Tristan McCollum was out there out of position, seemed
- 9:20Speaker 1: to be lost on that particular touchdown play. Uh, we saw.
- 9:25Speaker 2: It, And I'm can we put to bed this idea?
- 9:28Speaker 2: You know that everybody's just so comfortable with this idea
- 9:32Speaker 2: that like, if it's somebody's first unsportsman like conduct penalty,
- 9:38Speaker 2: and oh the second man, the second person to come
- 9:41Speaker 2: in and antagonize the situation, even if they get hit
- 9:44Speaker 2: and their helmet gets knocked off of their body Oh,
- 9:49Speaker 2: it's fine that it's the first, it's only their first penalty. Well,
- 9:52Speaker 2: I don't know what kind of dumb ass is gonna
- 9:55Speaker 2: go what some idiot's gonna call in a quarter, right,
- 9:58Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm not to be able to control that,
- 10:01Speaker 2: So don't call. Don't throw that that first one that
- 10:04Speaker 2: everybody saw, Yeah, where he had a guy basically swing
- 10:08Speaker 2: at him and knock his helmet off. He gets an unsportsmanlike.
- 10:11Speaker 2: I mean, these refs, there's been. There's been some pretty
- 10:16Speaker 2: bad refereeing this year.
- 10:17Speaker 1: There has been. There absolutely has been. But it just
- 10:21Speaker 1: it sucked that CJ. Gardner Johnson was not out there
- 10:24Speaker 1: on that last touchdown play. You had Tristan McCollum on
- 10:28Speaker 1: Alamade's Cinicaiis instead of CJ. And it just it's stunk.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Not having certain key personnel out there really really meant
- 10:36Speaker 1: a lot to this loss, quite frankly, and as I mean,
- 10:41Speaker 1: it meant a lot in terms of having you know
- 10:43Speaker 1: whether or not this team was gonna win or lose,
- 10:45Speaker 1: and they ended up ended up losing here. I mean,
- 10:47Speaker 1: we didn't see all garbage necessarily in this game either,
- 10:50Speaker 1: I'll tell you right now. We saw a Christmas miracle
- 10:53Speaker 1: right off the bat. Now the Eagle. Look, we know
- 10:56Speaker 1: the Eagles are one of the worst scoring teams in
- 10:57Speaker 1: the first quarter in the league, but not this this week.
- 11:00Speaker 1: The Eagles actually scored a touchdown yes, on their opening drive,
- 11:04Speaker 1: first one of the season. Then Saquon Barkley runs for
- 11:07Speaker 1: a sixty eight yard touchdown the first quarter. Eagles led
- 11:10Speaker 1: to twenty We're leading twenty one to seven after the
- 11:13Speaker 1: first quarter. It was like the complete opposite of what
- 11:15Speaker 1: we have seen throughout this entire season, Matt. It was
- 11:18Speaker 1: a Christmas miracle, my friend.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Unbelievable, truly.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, but you're absolutely right earlier what you said
- 11:26Speaker 1: about Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts and what both of
- 11:31Speaker 1: those guys and their intangibles mean On the field, Saquon
- 11:34Speaker 1: Barkley became the first Eagles player to ever rush for
- 11:37Speaker 1: one thy seven hundred yards in a season. He did
- 11:40Speaker 1: it today. No one has ever done it in Eagles uniform.
- 11:43Speaker 1: We were watching history, which was awesome even given that
- 11:46Speaker 1: this was a shitty loss. But I mean, an interesting
- 11:50Speaker 1: stat that I read. I'm sorry, I forget who tweeted
- 11:52Speaker 1: it out, but Saquon Barkley has four runs of sixty
- 11:56Speaker 1: five plus yards this season entering today, the entire rest
- 11:59Speaker 1: of the league had seven. He specialized. But again, it
- 12:03Speaker 1: also goes back to the Jalen Hurts aspect of this too.
- 12:06Speaker 1: It does because the Commanders ended up really stopping Saquon
- 12:10Speaker 1: in the rushing attack, you know, during the much of
- 12:13Speaker 1: the second, third, and fourth quarters.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I think you know, Saquon has been amazing. I think
- 12:20Speaker 2: you can etch his name on the Offensive Player of
- 12:23Speaker 2: the Year. That's his. They just mail it to his
- 12:25Speaker 2: house wherever he's living in back in Bethlehem or Allentown
- 12:28Speaker 2: or wherever it is around you. And and but he's
- 12:32Speaker 2: out of MVP with a law for with an Eagles
- 12:36Speaker 2: loss today. Today was one of those situations where Saquon
- 12:40Speaker 2: could have stamped it and said, like, sa Quon runs
- 12:43Speaker 2: for two point fifty, Eagles still win by ten points
- 12:46Speaker 2: with Kenny Pickett, you know, hit or miss right. But
- 12:50Speaker 2: today's the exact example why folks who say basically that
- 12:54Speaker 2: the MVP is and should be a quarterback award is
- 12:58Speaker 2: because so many other factors are play. Now that Jalen's
- 13:01Speaker 2: out of the game, I can now load up the
- 13:04Speaker 2: damn box. On every play, I'm bringing five. I'm bringing
- 13:07Speaker 2: at least five on every play, and I'm loading the
- 13:10Speaker 2: box up with eight and I'm basically shut off, shut
- 13:13Speaker 2: off the running game. And so it's unfortunate, but one
- 13:17Speaker 2: hell of a season from sa Quon Barkley that continues.
- 13:20Speaker 2: He's got two more games. I think if he rushes
- 13:22Speaker 2: for three hundred, what's he need? Jeff, do you know
- 13:26Speaker 2: that number on five? I'm not.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I'm not sure if that I thought heading into well
- 13:30Speaker 1: at one point through the fourth I'm sorry, through the
- 13:32Speaker 1: first quarter, I think he needed like another two hundred
- 13:36Speaker 1: and fifty ish two hundred and forty somewhere around there
- 13:40Speaker 1: to break Eric Dickerson single season rushing records. So I
- 13:44Speaker 1: think there's a possibility that he could do it. Given
- 13:46Speaker 1: the opponents of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants
- 13:49Speaker 1: over these next two weeks, I think it's possible.
- 13:53Speaker 2: It would be great. It would be great. What about
- 13:55Speaker 2: breaking it against the Giants? O, boy, that that.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Would be sweet, wouldn't it be sweet? Yeah? Yeah, last
- 14:03Speaker 1: game of the season. That would be very very sweet.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I would love that. My gosh, do you have any
- 14:09Speaker 1: other themes? Buddy to get into here. I mean, I
- 14:11Speaker 1: have a couple more with regard to some of the
- 14:14Speaker 1: defensive side of things. But do you have anything in
- 14:17Speaker 1: particular you really wanted to hone in on.
- 14:20Speaker 2: No, I think we covered all I think we covered
- 14:23Speaker 2: all that terrain.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Okay, I just want to say, really quick in terms
- 14:26Speaker 1: of defensive playmakers on this team. Of course, we know
- 14:30Speaker 1: how valuable Jalen Carter is. On the Commander's first play
- 14:34Speaker 1: of their second drive, Jalen Carter strips Brian Robinson, Nolan
- 14:38Speaker 1: Smith recovers the fumble. Pure dominance, and we saw that
- 14:41Speaker 1: dominance much throughout the first quarter. But then, of course
- 14:44Speaker 1: Jalen Hurt's getting hurt really just really threw a wrench
- 14:48Speaker 1: into everything. But I also wanted to say Darius Slay
- 14:51Speaker 1: as well, big play. Sligh really helping to set the
- 14:54Speaker 1: tone early for the Eagles defense in the first quarter.
- 14:57Speaker 1: He was a tone setter. And Zach b as well.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Once again, my gosh, give him a blank check. Give
- 15:03Speaker 1: him a blank check, Cowie. I mean, his fifth forced
- 15:05Speaker 1: fumble of the year. Constantly getting into the backfield. He
- 15:09Speaker 1: is great with regard to pressure, his pursuit of the ball.
- 15:12Speaker 1: It never ceases to amaze me. Matt zach Bond should
- 15:15Speaker 1: be on this team long term if he continues to
- 15:17Speaker 1: perform like this.
- 15:19Speaker 2: He's doing like every time you see every time you
- 15:22Speaker 2: see fifty three, He's doing everything so technically sound. Yes,
- 15:27Speaker 2: I mean he's just so like. I mean, he's while
- 15:30Speaker 2: he's bringing the guy to the ground, he's punting at
- 15:34Speaker 2: the ball yep, turning the guy's body to the right
- 15:37Speaker 2: direction so that he doesn't get any more yardage. I mean,
- 15:41Speaker 2: just it is unbelievable what we're seeing from this guy
- 15:45Speaker 2: who was basically a special teams guy.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly exactly. It's it's it's something incredible to see
- 15:54Speaker 1: when coaches are able to take talent that is there
- 15:58Speaker 1: in a player and really apply it with the game.
- 16:01Speaker 1: We're seeing that with Vic Fangio, and I think we're
- 16:03Speaker 1: seeing that with other parts of the offensive side of
- 16:05Speaker 1: the ball where we're not seeing it from the offensive perspective.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I just want to mention real quick before we go
- 16:10Speaker 1: to the break and before we get to our grades.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Matt Greant cal Katara is a complete liability as a blocker.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Dear freaking lord, they should have put Tyler Steen in
- 16:19Speaker 1: to block since they weren't passing to cal Katara anyway.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Greg kl Katara completely sucked in this game. Holy shit.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I kind of told I mean, this was a liability
- 16:30Speaker 2: before the year started. And I continue to say it
- 16:33Speaker 2: for folks continue to say it. And I don't want
- 16:36Speaker 2: to be a hater. I'd hate to be a Debbie downer.
- 16:38Speaker 2: If they have another parade, I'll be there. But I say,
- 16:43Speaker 2: year after year, we're not gonna get seventeen from Dallas Goddard. Folks, Yeah,
- 16:47Speaker 2: we are paying this man, So we got to find
- 16:49Speaker 2: a diamond in the rough guy who's another pass catching
- 16:53Speaker 2: Even if Dallas Goddard was healthy, cal Katara is not it.
- 16:57Speaker 2: He's a guy who can make a splash play here there. Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 2: he's not going to be some game changing guy. And
- 17:03Speaker 2: he was whiffing today on big plays that guys were pulling.
- 17:08Speaker 2: He is. All he had to do was chip for
- 17:10Speaker 2: a second. He didn't even have to hold guys up.
- 17:12Speaker 2: He was getting blown pass blown over. I mean, it
- 17:17Speaker 2: was highly frustrating.
- 17:19Speaker 1: It was. It was highly frustrating. We're certainly going to
- 17:22Speaker 1: get to our grades in a bit here, but before
- 17:24Speaker 1: we go to break two Eagles defense giving up five
- 17:27Speaker 1: touchdown passes. They certainly haven't done that in quite some time.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels for the Washington Commanders ended this game with
- 17:33Speaker 1: those five touchdowns that were thrown, just want to say,
- 17:36Speaker 1: the most since Mark Rippin when he did it in
- 17:40Speaker 1: nineteen ninety one. And Jayden Daniels pretty good, pretty good
- 17:45Speaker 1: against this Eagles defense. Yes, an Eagles defense that was
- 17:47Speaker 1: banged up throughout this game, have to point that out
- 17:51Speaker 1: for sure, but Jade Daniels is going to be a
- 17:53Speaker 1: pretty good quarterback for this Washington Commanders team well into
- 17:56Speaker 1: the future. So yes, yeah, buddy, why don't we go
- 17:59Speaker 1: to break and then we come back. We'll get some
- 18:01Speaker 1: grades that sound.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Good to you.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, all right, We're gonna take a quick break, folks.
- 18:05Speaker 1: We'll be back in just a bit. All right, We
- 18:09Speaker 1: are back and again with our friend Matt Rodgers from
- 18:12Speaker 1: the honorable mentioned podcast on YouTube and you can subscribe
- 18:16Speaker 1: on whatever podcast platform you're listening to us on as well.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Let's start with our grades here. Coming back from break,
- 18:23Speaker 1: quarterback position. Boy, we like we know, Jalen Hurts went
- 18:27Speaker 1: out and only after four pass attempts, he had three
- 18:30Speaker 1: carries for forty one yards averaged thirteen point seven yards
- 18:35Speaker 1: per carry on those in the first quarter before going
- 18:37Speaker 1: out with the concussion. Kenny Pickett really kind of sucked.
- 18:41Speaker 1: He was sacked three times, went fourteen of twenty four
- 18:44Speaker 1: for one hundred and forty three yards, one touchdown, one interception,
- 18:48Speaker 1: average six yards per attempt. I'm gonna be giving Kenny
- 18:51Speaker 1: Pickett a straight up C minus in this game. He
- 18:55Speaker 1: was not good. Did throw that touchdown that he's getting
- 18:59Speaker 1: a's getting this like a seat, Well, I'll give him
- 19:02Speaker 1: C C minus. He's getting a C minus from me
- 19:04Speaker 1: actually because he actually threw a touchdown in this game.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I don't know what do you give the quarterback play
- 19:09Speaker 1: this week?
- 19:10Speaker 2: I think you're spot on, Jeff. I think I think
- 19:13Speaker 2: what people who watch this game, you can pull these up.
- 19:17Speaker 2: There are places online where you can just pull up
- 19:19Speaker 2: and watch the game film. So for people who are
- 19:21Speaker 2: game football junkies, what you saw today from Kenny Pickett
- 19:26Speaker 2: was NFL replacement level play at the quarterback position. Yes,
- 19:30Speaker 2: not horrible, not good at times, good at times, horrible
- 19:36Speaker 2: at normal In this class, he got a seventy three
- 19:40Speaker 2: on the test. That's C C minus. I'm more in
- 19:45Speaker 2: the neighborhood. I'm calling this a c minas.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Okay, That's where I'm going to go with it, all right.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Running Back Saquon Barkley twenty nine carries, twenty nine carries
- 19:54Speaker 1: for one hundred and fifty yards, five point two yards
- 19:56Speaker 1: per rush, two touchdowns, as long as sixty eight yards.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Kenny p I'm sorry, Kenny, Kenny Gainwell, only four carries
- 20:03Speaker 1: for seven yards. He did a whole lot of nothing
- 20:05Speaker 1: in this game. But Saquon Barkley doing what he did,
- 20:09Speaker 1: seventeen hundred total yards over seventeen hundred total yards on
- 20:12Speaker 1: the season. He's uh, he's gonna be getting an A
- 20:15Speaker 1: minus for me. I'm gonna I'm not even putting Kenny
- 20:18Speaker 1: Pickett in here with the running backs this week. No, no,
- 20:21Speaker 1: not at all. But I'm gonna give Saquon Barkley an
- 20:23Speaker 1: A minus. Those are those are pretty damn good numbers.
- 20:26Speaker 1: What do you give me?
- 20:26Speaker 2: Yeah? But I got it. But it's the group. So
- 20:29Speaker 2: I'm going with a b okay, because because you're right,
- 20:33Speaker 2: it was absolutely nothing from from from and this was
- 20:36Speaker 2: a game where we needed game well to break one.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I mean, and I'm sure he was trying his best
- 20:40Speaker 2: that it's not about effort, but but he needed to
- 20:44Speaker 2: break a tackle. This was this is a big yat game.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Yep.
- 20:47Speaker 2: This was a spot for him and he came up
- 20:50Speaker 2: short today. So I would give Picket a d give
- 20:54Speaker 2: Saquon an a yeah, I'll come. I'll it shakes out
- 20:59Speaker 2: for me with.
- 20:59Speaker 1: The Okay, I'm gonna give Kenny Pickett as we move
- 21:03Speaker 1: on to the receivers here, I'm actually gonna give Kenny
- 21:06Speaker 1: Pickett credit for something really like throwing to AJ Brown
- 21:11Speaker 1: because he tried fifteen times. Yes my god, yes, love
- 21:15Speaker 1: it fifteen times. But guess what. Aj came down with
- 21:18Speaker 1: eight balls. That's it, only about only about half of them.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Eight balls for ninety six yards average twelve point one
- 21:23Speaker 1: yards per reception, one touchdown. Davonte Smith targeted eight times,
- 21:27Speaker 1: came down with six balls for fifty one yards, and
- 21:29Speaker 1: that's that's about it, folks. Kenny Gainwell caught one ball
- 21:32Speaker 1: for six for six yards. And I will say this too.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I wanted to get into this. I was thinking of
- 21:38Speaker 1: getting into this during our themes. But critical drops in
- 21:41Speaker 1: the game in the fourth quarter from Davonte Smith and
- 21:44Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley, who was only targeted once in this game,
- 21:47Speaker 1: dropped that ball. Yeah. If both of those balls had
- 21:50Speaker 1: been caught, this would have been perhaps a different outcome,
- 21:54Speaker 1: quite frankly. I mean there would have been.
- 21:55Speaker 2: First down, yeah, from two of their best players, from
- 21:58Speaker 2: from from maybe being on the way to finishing the
- 22:01Speaker 2: season sixteen and one exactly.
- 22:03Speaker 1: So I'm going to be given the receivers this week,
- 22:06Speaker 1: all of them here, they're getting a B minus from me.
- 22:08Speaker 1: What do you give them?
- 22:12Speaker 2: I go it would B plus. I really think it
- 22:16Speaker 2: took extra effort to do what AJ Brown was able
- 22:20Speaker 2: to do with Kenny Pickett.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Yeah, he was in a category of his own today.
- 22:24Speaker 1: He really was AJ Yeah.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I mean, and if it wasn't for some of I
- 22:28Speaker 2: mean some of these some of the calls, there were
- 22:32Speaker 2: more personal fouls than were called. Yeah, and minus that
- 22:39Speaker 2: AJ Brown statistics might have been absolutely ridiculous. I mean
- 22:42Speaker 2: we might be talking about, you know, sixteen catches for
- 22:46Speaker 2: a buck eighty and three touchdowns if it wasn't for
- 22:49Speaker 2: all of the damn holding from LA I mean, why
- 22:53Speaker 2: would somebody pay that guy again? I mean, I could
- 22:56Speaker 2: go out there tonight, Jeff, if people want to meet me,
- 22:59Speaker 2: I'm not too far from the field over in Maryland.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Somebody could wait for you know, I'll just go and
- 23:06Speaker 2: grab wide receivers and just ride with them all the
- 23:10Speaker 2: way down the football field. If if y'all are auditioning commanders,
- 23:14Speaker 2: if you're listening, I'm down of six ' four, not
- 23:18Speaker 2: as fast as I used to be, but I can
- 23:20Speaker 2: I can do what Latimore was doing.
- 23:21Speaker 1: It.
- 23:21Speaker 2: You can do.
- 23:22Speaker 1: You can absolutely do it. I've seen, buddy, I have
- 23:25Speaker 1: seen you. Okay, you're nice and I got some lank
- 23:28Speaker 1: to you. You can be able to get up to
- 23:30Speaker 1: catch point. You and Marshawn Laddimer, I you know you're
- 23:34Speaker 1: mad and ratings should be higher.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Yes, based on today's Yes, based on today it says
- 23:41Speaker 2: more about him than it says about me.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, all right, Well let's move to the offensive
- 23:48Speaker 1: line here. Offensive line, I mean it was it was
- 23:52Speaker 1: rough with regard to the rushing game in the second,
- 23:56Speaker 1: third and fourth quarter, but like in past pro I
- 23:58Speaker 1: thought they actually did a pretty good job overall. I'm
- 24:01Speaker 1: gonna give the offensive line a B today. What do
- 24:03Speaker 1: you give them?
- 24:04Speaker 2: Me too? Me too often in the in the running game.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I kind of give them, not a mulligan, but kind
- 24:12Speaker 2: of a pass because of the ends crashing down. I
- 24:16Speaker 2: think if Jalen was in there, they protect they run
- 24:21Speaker 2: blocked well enough for us to have run for two
- 24:23Speaker 2: point fifty. But it's not the same dynamic without Jalen
- 24:27Speaker 2: Hurts in there. So the pass protection was was worrisome though.
- 24:32Speaker 2: I mean, they were loading up but it was obviously
- 24:34Speaker 2: that they were loading up the box. They weren't even
- 24:36Speaker 2: be they weren't disguising the blitzes right, and they had
- 24:40Speaker 2: a free rusher every time Kenny was under pressure. I
- 24:42Speaker 2: do got to give credits. We've thrown a couple of
- 24:44Speaker 2: shots his way warranted, albeit, but he was under pressure
- 24:49Speaker 2: every snap.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Basically, it wouldn't surprise me when we see the stats
- 24:52Speaker 1: after this game if Washington blitzed eighty eighty five to
- 24:57Speaker 1: ninety plays, seriously, it wouldn't surprise.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Quinn was like, screw it, take it, beat me.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, yeah exactly. So I think that's why you
- 25:09Speaker 1: got to give some grace to the offensive line this
- 25:11Speaker 1: week too.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Yeah you're right, you're right, you're right, Yeah, you're right.
- 25:14Speaker 1: All right, I'll go with the b beat. Okay, sounds good.
- 25:17Speaker 1: All right, let's move over to the defense, defensive line again,
- 25:21Speaker 1: not having not having Josh Sweaton there for part of
- 25:23Speaker 1: the game. Jordan Davis going out, this is a team
- 25:28Speaker 1: or there's a team. This is a unit that ended
- 25:30Speaker 1: up only with one sack today, four tackles for a loss.
- 25:34Speaker 1: There were only two quarterback hits. Jade Daniels. He is
- 25:38Speaker 1: a good good passer. He's a good passer. He went
- 25:41Speaker 1: twenty four to thirty nine for two hundred and fifty
- 25:43Speaker 1: eight yards, averaged six point six yards per attempt, five touchdowns,
- 25:47Speaker 1: two interceptions. Look, Jane Daniels, very very good quarterback for
- 25:51Speaker 1: a rookie, and it was it was a tough day
- 25:54Speaker 1: for the defensive line. I thought, you know, they did
- 25:56Speaker 1: bring the pressure, but Jayde Daniels, he was able to
- 25:58Speaker 1: escape pressure. Alle in this game. I'm going to give
- 26:02Speaker 1: the defensive line this week of B minus. What do
- 26:04Speaker 1: you give them?
- 26:06Speaker 2: Wow, it's I arrived at the same places. It's really
- 26:12Speaker 2: frustrating because they were pressuring him all the time, but
- 26:16Speaker 2: he was so slippery and they were not finishing. I
- 26:19Speaker 2: think that they were rushing too far upfield and then
- 26:22Speaker 2: he was Jaden was making very smart, good plays and
- 26:25Speaker 2: just stepping up in the pocket what they teach young
- 26:28Speaker 2: quarterbacks to do. So I'll go with yes, B minus
- 26:32Speaker 2: B minus sounds good.
- 26:33Speaker 1: All right. The linebackers, you had Zach Bond with twelve
- 26:36Speaker 1: total tackles led the team. NI Kobe Dean actually tying
- 26:40Speaker 1: him with twelve total tackles as well. Zach Bond two
- 26:43Speaker 1: tackles for a loss as well. Linebackers performed I thought
- 26:48Speaker 1: extremely well in this game. I'm going to give them
- 26:50Speaker 1: a straight up A what do you give them?
- 26:53Speaker 2: Same? Excellent every week. Weird to say it, but it
- 26:57Speaker 2: is kind of set it and forget it. If you're
- 26:59Speaker 2: a fantasy person. It's like we're gonna get a level
- 27:03Speaker 2: AA minus level linebacker play. It's it's really nice.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Absolutely. Look, I know we just talked about the defensive line,
- 27:09Speaker 1: but again, Nolan Smith, I think doing some really good
- 27:11Speaker 1: things in this game. We had three tackles, but he
- 27:13Speaker 1: had one sack on the day. He was the only
- 27:16Speaker 1: only guy with the sacked and a one quarterback hit there.
- 27:18Speaker 1: So I gotta say, Nolan Smith still continuing to develop.
- 27:22Speaker 1: We're still seeing good stuff from him. So I wanted
- 27:24Speaker 1: to throw that out there. Let's go to the secondary
- 27:27Speaker 1: here sucks the CJ. Gardner. Johnson was was ejected from
- 27:32Speaker 1: the game. Tristan McCollum, filling in for him, read blank
- 27:35Speaker 1: and ship with an interception Darius Slay, Like I said,
- 27:38Speaker 1: really helping to set the tone for the defense, I
- 27:40Speaker 1: thought early, even though the defense was just getting gassed
- 27:43Speaker 1: by the end of this game. I'm actually gonna give
- 27:46Speaker 1: the secondary in this game because I really think they
- 27:48Speaker 1: did a decent job. I'm gonna give him a B plus.
- 27:50Speaker 1: What do you think could be any too?
- 27:56Speaker 2: I want to give I want to give them a be.
- 28:00Speaker 2: But then I'm looking at the scoreboard. I'm looking at
- 28:02Speaker 2: the box score, like, how do you reconcile that? Jeff?
- 28:05Speaker 1: I know, I know, it's it's it's it's it's tough.
- 28:10Speaker 1: It's tough when, yeah, when Jamison Crowder is catching two touchdowns,
- 28:14Speaker 1: granted he is, yeah, granted, Granted, Jamison Crowder only had
- 28:17Speaker 1: fifteen touches or fifteen yards on the day. Terry McLaurin
- 28:21Speaker 1: was sixty yards. Uh, Diami Brown with fifty six yards
- 28:24Speaker 1: on the day with I mean was the chaus though
- 28:27Speaker 1: he's picking up those yards a lot of the yes.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Along was that forty nine yard er which was complete
- 28:32Speaker 1: broken coverage. Slagh was getting off the field. There was
- 28:35Speaker 1: twelve men on the field at that point, a penalty.
- 28:38Speaker 1: It was a mess. Like a lot of days. A
- 28:40Speaker 1: Chaus had the majority of his yards based on that
- 28:42Speaker 1: play for the touchdown. So I don't know. I actually,
- 28:47Speaker 1: like I said, like B plus, I think is actually
- 28:50Speaker 1: pretty fair for the secondary, given some of the injury
- 28:53Speaker 1: situations some of the guys they didn't have out on
- 28:55Speaker 1: the field with the especially with CJ. Gardner Johnson, I'll
- 28:59Speaker 1: grudging grudgingly give them a be okay BECAUSEJGJ went out. Okay,
- 29:05Speaker 1: we're not You're going to see trist In every week?
- 29:07Speaker 1: Thank god.
- 29:08Speaker 2: I'm worried to see too much of trist In now,
- 29:10Speaker 2: Yeah I am.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Yeah, because they were picking on them. They were they
- 29:13Speaker 1: were picking on them, and that's what happens in this league.
- 29:16Speaker 1: You know when you were when you're the next man up,
- 29:18Speaker 1: you are going to be getting picked on likely. So yeah,
- 29:21Speaker 1: let's move to coaching and let's get into special teams. First.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Here opening kickoff, boy bradon Man just didn't kick the
- 29:31Speaker 1: ball into the landing zone. It was a penalty. Gave
- 29:33Speaker 1: the Commanders a really good field position, to start the game.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I've never seen that to open a game. I've never
- 29:38Speaker 2: ever seen that.
- 29:38Speaker 1: No, I haven't seen it all seasons since this whole
- 29:41Speaker 1: dynamic kick kickoff bullshit has been in effect. Here, the
- 29:46Speaker 1: Commander started off the forty yard line. In fact, I
- 29:49Speaker 1: think the Eagles special teams kicking unit continued to give
- 29:53Speaker 1: the Commander's great field position on the little every in
- 29:56Speaker 1: this game. Every time, yes, every single time. And we
- 30:00Speaker 1: had Jake Elliott missing a fifty six yarder just a
- 30:03Speaker 1: little bit short. But then he made his first fifty
- 30:06Speaker 1: yard field goal of the season in the fourth quarter,
- 30:08Speaker 1: and I'm thinking, yes it was I'm thinking, Okay, he
- 30:11Speaker 1: was able to step up in a big spot. Maybe
- 30:14Speaker 1: he hasn't necessarily lost it. And then we see on
- 30:18Speaker 1: special teams that penalty on Sydney Brown on the last
- 30:21Speaker 1: kickoff of the game, which which sucked. I mean, Bradon
- 30:25Speaker 1: man like his punts were not good throughout at the
- 30:27Speaker 1: course of the day. Special teams had a tough day today,
- 30:30Speaker 1: And I'm gonna give him a C plus in general,
- 30:32Speaker 1: what do you give him?
- 30:35Speaker 2: I'll give him a straight up. See, Okay, it's kind
- 30:39Speaker 2: of like a left tackle, right tackle It's like, I
- 30:43Speaker 2: kind of don't want to see from you all day.
- 30:45Speaker 2: The more I the more I'm hearing your name unless
- 30:48Speaker 2: you're like pancake and a guy like a corner, Like
- 30:51Speaker 2: if I don't hear Quinnyon's name all day. That was
- 30:53Speaker 2: kind of probably means he was doing a good job.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Which I think he gave up. He gave up his
- 30:59Speaker 1: first touchdown I think of the year to uh, to
- 31:02Speaker 1: Terry McLaurin, I think gave it up the first I think.
- 31:06Speaker 1: So anyway, I just want to throw that out there.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah so so yeah, I mean in a similar vein,
- 31:12Speaker 2: I'm thinking of too many instances where I'm thinking bad
- 31:16Speaker 2: special teams play. So I'll go with c Okay, I'll
- 31:19Speaker 2: review it further, I'll send you updated.
- 31:21Speaker 1: It sounds good, sounds good, sounds good. All right, let's
- 31:25Speaker 1: head over to Vic Fangio and the defensive coaching this week. Man,
- 31:29Speaker 1: it was just it was kind of it was just
- 31:31Speaker 1: kind of brutal in certain situations, again given injuries. Giving
- 31:34Speaker 1: the fact to CJ. H. Gardner, Johnson was ejected as well, Uh,
- 31:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna give him a B minus this week,
- 31:41Speaker 1: just given the situation so you don't have Jalen Hurts
- 31:44Speaker 1: on the other side of the ball helping you out.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Your defense is gassed, you know, heading into the fourth quarter.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna give him a B minus. What do you
- 31:51Speaker 1: give Vic van Joe this week?
- 31:56Speaker 2: I gotta give him a.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Thinking in the Sea area because of the Sea I'm
- 32:03Speaker 1: thinking in the Sea area now that I'm thinking about it,
- 32:05Speaker 1: I may go there too. Maybe C plus here, C
- 32:08Speaker 1: C plus.
- 32:09Speaker 2: You're not holding when it's oh gosh, and then and
- 32:14Speaker 2: then this is you know, they went to Tampa. It
- 32:18Speaker 2: got lit up down in Tampa. Uh. These these playoff
- 32:22Speaker 2: NFC low level playoff NFC opponents now who have cooked
- 32:30Speaker 2: the Eagles defense this season? Who if if Philly you know,
- 32:35Speaker 2: ends up, you know, needing to go to Detroit, Detroit's
- 32:40Speaker 2: gonna feel very comfortable that maybe outside of Philly that
- 32:43Speaker 2: this defense isn't the same unit. So I want to say, see,
- 32:48Speaker 2: I don't think I think I was not impressed. I
- 32:51Speaker 2: can't say that I came away from this game feel better.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I'll go with the C plus because you know, you
- 32:57Speaker 1: put thirty six points up on this Eagles defense been
- 33:00Speaker 1: number ones over the past basically ten weeks in the league.
- 33:03Speaker 1: You know that. Yeah, it is pretty significant, you know.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I mean I will say too that. I mean, this
- 33:07Speaker 1: is a team though, that that did beat a prolific
- 33:09Speaker 1: Steelers team last week. They took it to the Ravens
- 33:14Speaker 1: as well, So they have to beat some pretty good teams. Yes,
- 33:18Speaker 1: I think we need to keep that in mind as well.
- 33:20Speaker 1: You know, we do have these games that are outliers.
- 33:22Speaker 1: It is the NFL. These are pro teams, professional athletes.
- 33:25Speaker 1: So all right, let's end things here with the offensive
- 33:29Speaker 1: coaching Matt Nick, Sirianni, Kellen Moore, they were probably just like,
- 33:34Speaker 1: damn it shit when Jalen Hurts went out, like I'm
- 33:39Speaker 1: freaking yeah. To be honest, I was actually gonna say
- 33:42Speaker 1: a minus. I was gonna say a minus when you're
- 33:44Speaker 1: able to get when you're able to sustain some drives
- 33:49Speaker 1: here and there with your backup quarterback and like you
- 33:52Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, made some good plays, made some bad plays.
- 33:56Speaker 1: You know, there was some plays he made, you know
- 33:58Speaker 1: in the middle where it was little lucky here and there. Yeah,
- 34:02Speaker 1: you know, yep, you you're only as good as what
- 34:05Speaker 1: your talent is on the field as well, So I
- 34:08Speaker 1: think a for me for for the offensive coaching staff
