siblings. She owns a crap business and a

you to just take us back to the day, your story, or your

journey, your journey began. First off, thank you so much for

We're going to get the ball rolling and I was diagnosed with

polycystic kidney disease, which is the PKD in 1986, I found out
5:24
when it says a doctor for a physical and my blood pressure
5:29
was elevated and they started to ask me all these questions, you
5:34
know, do you have any family history of kidney disease and at
5:39
the time my mother was on dialysis and of course, they
5:44
performed a kidney scan which reveal I to Have P KD.
5:51
So I inherited this disease from my mom.

Who inherited the disease from her mom, my mother had a kidney

transplant that lasted over 30 years.

But my grandmother died at 26. I also have two brothers with
6:14
this disease. One brother has had a had a
6:19
transplant that lasted him for 18 years and another has had one
6:24
for three and a half years. With all my family members
6:28
receiving transplants. I felt like if the Lord bless
6:32
them. When I was faced with needing a
6:39
kidney, he would do the same for me.

I mean, what you, he's not a respecter of persons and so that
6:45
was something that I had in the back of my mind, which I would
6:49
all please. Pray that the Lord would keep my
6:52
kidneys functioning and I would not need a kidney, that was my
6:56
prayer. But as it turns out, I did not

have to go on dialysis, which is a blessing.

Why My Town, even though I was in Stage 5 kidney failure, and

my kidneys only worked at 7%. I mean they're supposed to work
7:20
at 100% but they only were working at 7% and this happen
7:26
for over two and a half years. So I know without a doubt.

Grateful and thankful that I didn't start dialysis.

So my doctor had suggested years ago that I should become a big

part of his advice and years, this path.

but you know, I stopped my mom and pray and ask the Lord to

I'm not vegan or vegetarian. So and now and it does make a

big difference. It basically is the only working

7% a my body because and I did I have prayed and asked the Lord

to Leading. So I took my doctor's suggestion

and I gave up the meat and again if I mean I've never been a big

me, he heater but when you're Newt, you know, when you realize

something is not good for you, that's when you basically want

it. So, I did, I gave up me and I've

been a vegetarian now for this past, May was 22 years.

Wow. And my my kidney process, it

started and July 2019. At Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

And also, in August at UAB Hospital.

Well, in Birmingham, I had to go in for evaluations and which

lasted the entire day at each hospital and I mean, who are

you? Your they take at least, I think
10:40
Piedmont, I got twenty two vowels, they got twenty two,
10:44
vials of blood and their tests and everything.
10:49
I mean if I mean whatever you have, they're going to find it.

Because with that much, you know, That much blood that
10:59
they're taking and I'm thinking I don't have any blood but that

was that Piedmont. And then at UAB, I think it was
11:08
19 vials of blood and I mean it's which I'm not complaining
11:14
Laura because that's just the process.

And you know, a lot of people don't talk about takes to get to
11:20
the point of being able to get approved to get on that list to
11:25
receive a transplant. Because right, I mean, you have
11:30
to make sure for that, you're healthy enough and also you
11:37
cannot be overweight. And that was one of the things,
11:40
my doctor, he stressed with me as far as you know, I was
11:46
thinking along, it's not Gardens, I didn't talk about it,
11:55
you know. No, it started to just sink in
11:59
my doctor had told me. He's, you know what, if you're
12:01
not going to do what I say? I was overweight, you know, and
12:04
I just I didn't take it serious at first, that's again now.

So I was diagnosed 1986 and probably Lily, 10 years, or
12:16
maybe not that long, but I didn't, I didn't even talk about
12:21
it. I didn't, you know, sometimes
12:22
that like here but when he told me one day he said, you know
12:27
what, if you're not going to do what I say, you're taking up
12:30
time of other patients that are sick and they are trying to save
12:35
their kids. I mean, he was real blunt and he
12:38
just basically I mean and I needed that because yeah, you
12:42
know, When your kidneys fail, you know, he, he was he was very
12:48
just adamant about, you know, saying they might not fail or
12:51
whatever, but with this disease, basically, you know, it usually
12:55
comes to that, either a transplant or diodes.

And when he said at that day, it just resonated and then I was

like, wow, I have got to get serious about this and because
13:06
he said, one thing about it, you're not going to get a kidney
13:09
if you're overweight and I was I was I was very overweight and I
13:14
started to pray and ask the Lord to just And Brett me because I
13:23
needed help because I'm serious. I I love eating Donuts, a lot of
13:27
other people, you know. But in the meantime, I wanted
13:32
one of the precursors to this disease is having high blood
13:36
pressure. And again, as my blood pressure
13:39
was elevated, and I used to think that if I just eat it
13:43
because I had to cut out salt, pretty much out of my diet, to
13:47
try to keep my blood pressure, you know, Lowell On with
13:50
medications. So I figured hey, I if I can't
13:53
have salt, I can have sugar. So of course, then there I go
13:57
nuts. And, you know, just Little

Debbie cakes and you know, all the good right.

Yummy butter cakes and stuff. So anyway he was like no that's

not good enough. You can't just because you can't
14:10
have stopped. Don't mean.

You can have all the sugar you want, you know?

Again. So he basically just you know

like hey you You can't keep wasting my time and when I

realized I said you know what, I got to do better because this

this is real, you know, regardless of how I've been just
14:30
taking it because you see your family members.

So you know you know what? So I got really serious and I

started I he mentioned to me about a diet called Dash deep da
14:44
sh and I even did that even though, you know, with me not
14:49
eating meat but I went not exactly by it but it allowed me
14:53
to lose weight. Blood pressure got low and
14:56
everything so we're just going to just kind of fast forward and

I go back to what kind of go back when I mentioned the part

that put my journey started in 2019 and and when I went to get
15:12
evaluated, my family was with me.

I mean it was awesome because first of all Paul you're

nervous, but you're nervous anyway because you have a kidney

disease, you know, right. Which people look at me and they
15:28
say, oh, but you don't look like nothing is wrong with you, you
15:31
know, and I'm like, oh, okay and you know that happens on and it
15:36
happened. And that was why my doctor at
15:38
Piedmont said, you have got to put on Facebook that you need a
15:42
kidney because otherwise no one will ever be able to just look
15:47
at you and say she need a kidney.
15:50
Like when you need a lift when you need a liver you know you
15:53
basically start to get John does your eyes turn yellow now?

But with kidneys. It did, you know, it was it was
15:59
no change other than you start to get very tired.

And that I have always had bags. Even as a little girl, that's
16:08
just my trademark having bags under my eyes, I just got used
16:12
to because I always kind of look sleepy, but, hey, you know, I
16:17
have no problem with bags. It's okay.

Is it? But but some of my family went

with me. The whole day we went over and
16:27
made it like a, like a vacation trip a day trip.

It's they told me no kids and I tried to tell my children, we
16:34
can't take children but they were like we're all going Mama,

you know? And and when I and was going

through the evaluation and the nurse told me, she say this is
16:46
awesome because it makes a difference when you have soap.

family support and I said they couldn't come but and she was
16:55
like you know they hate it's okay that they come today but
16:59
you know right if you get a you know today is okay and because

Too many times. They've seen for per women

themselves to try to get evaluated to get on the list and
17:17
they're not going to be approved.

Because once you have the surgery, you have got to have
17:24
somebody to take care of you. I mean because you can't, once
17:27
you know, this is major surgery and you, you got to have some
17:31
help and my hat is off. I say, one thing you have to
17:36
think. about when you're talking about a mate, Is think I mean,

you pray for someone that's going to be there with you?

If when you're I mean it was things are going.

That's fine. Yes.

But when you get to wear hey I have had my abdomen cut.

I need some help. I can't even sneeze.

I can't cause I mean I need help getting up.

Yes. You have got to be mine forever.

I a having your husband being a support system in a whole lot.

Yes, it sure did. And he was a good old marriage

vows seriously. Yes, he was with me through the

whole process. Well, actually, all of my
18:27
children were and Beauty. I thank God for that because it,

I mean, your, it's enough to go through it.

But then when you got you, when you got your spouse, I said, oh
18:39
my goodness. I mean, and we've been there for
18:41
42 years and I said, wow. When it has usually, you know,
18:48
I'm the one that's, you know, looking out for me.

But it when the tables turn and I was like, oh my goodness,
18:57
that's because he was with me through the entire process in

town. I am so grateful and and again

you have got to think about it because you're going to have
19:07
some rainy days. I mean his week I was I was 17

and he was 19 when we got married.

Married and, you know, you ain't thinking about I get sick or
19:21
lose, is that right? But I'm here to tell you, you
19:26
never know what's headed down, down your path.

Go. Everybody has their own life and

it´s a life. And I'm just grateful to the

good Lord for having my soul, mate.

You know, because I was so used to being the one that's taken
19:46
care of everybody else. But when, when I was down it no
19:51
with surgery and all they could do anything.

But just sit there and being pain, it's like, oh boy, but he
19:59
was there. Step It Away.

Oh yeah, that's good. That's what it's all about

Through The Good, The Bad and everything and the Ugly we did

have some ugly moments that I'm thinking if you want to go,

okay, let me stay on point, but your family, the family support.

And first of all, I'll I got to give all glory to the Lord
20:30
because When I look back and think of all the times, I pray
20:36
for a kidney, if my kidneys should fail.
20:39
And then right, when I knew my kidneys were going to, I could
20:44
tell they would get rid of the fail.
20:46
But even though I kept going, I kept babysitting the kids and
20:50
but I knew it was getting close to the end.
20:53
And right after we got back from vacation, like the next week, I
20:58
got the call and it was it's like, This is something that we
21:05
all been praying for, and, of course, I do realize that once I
21:10
put it on Facebook, I put it out there.

There were people praying for me that I have no idea.

There Were Strangers, they were people, you know, friends, you
21:20
know church members, but I'll never know who I was praying.

And I am grateful for your prayers because I do.

I know for a fact that this is not ask Didn't this know, is

that it's not because I mean I don't believe in luck.

Exactly. And then when nothing but a

miracle and then now that I have it and, you know, sometime I
21:51
forget, because I feel so good. I feel I mean, I'm not bragging,

but it's like I feel just like, almost like Well, that was 30

something you know I'm and and you look amazing and I always is

Jesus. I'm serious because I don't know

again, though. The but there is a flip side

because when I think about the donor, I have a deceased donor

kidney. And I think about the family

because in order for me to Leah You and not be on dialysis, then

somebody has that, right? And which I hope and pray, that

one day I can meet this family because to be a for, but then
22:49
again, thank you is not. I mean, how can you, how can you
22:55
thank somebody for giving you the gift of your life?

Yeah. I mean, it is so, and when until

my mother needed a transplant, this never was on my mind.

I never thought about people meeting transplants because it
23:13
didn't affect me or didn't, you know, it hadn't affected, none
23:16
of my family members. But once you're faced with
23:21
something, you look at it on a whole, big new, schema thing.

Yeah, exactly. And and that to me is like, when

you have said 17 people died on a day on the transplant list
23:38
because a lot of people don't make it to get a kidney or a
23:43
heart love. I mean, that's why I say it's
23:47
only a miracle. Yes.

Wow. Grateful and thankful and I have
23:55
to give the Lord the praise because I mean, how do you know

how did he choose me? Yes, yes, yes.

Yes, I am forever grateful and I'm doing everything I can to

take care of this kidney because that's another thing.

And I started to say that before, not only can you not be
24:18
overweight, they make sure that you're going to exercise, you're
24:23
going to be taking care of this kidney.

They will not give a kidney or an organ to someone that is just
24:31
going to be a couch potato. They're not going to I mean in
24:36
they will not do that and they do a lot of, you know,
24:39
background check in and you know just asking you all kinds of
24:44
questions and all and because it's no I mean they want they
24:52
want they don't want to waste any time given to somebody this
24:55
night. They might say they grateful but

they might fall back in those same routine or not doing things

or not taking care of the bar tonight.

Even right, so Zach, God told you because he know that he

could trust you. And I tell you it is is

sometimes I get so overwhelmed because you know, it's like what

did I do to deserve this? Right.

Right. But since he has you here to

tell your storm cause there's a lot of people have had different

transplant and for some reason they don't share their story.

He knew that he could trust. Just you and then this testimony

that's why we had a hard time getting this recording I know.

We have had a hard time trying to get the support of the night

and I've been doing Zoom forever and own zoom and zoom, it kept

freezing up on us, had to change locations in the room.

We had to get on with the hanger, but somebody needs to

hear your story. And when you say that you have

this, This ministry in your ministry.

What is that you want to gain from that?

You what, what what's, what's your ultimate goal?

I just want people, you know, because and I'm not throwing any

shade on any of the other diseases.

But even though kidney disease, there's a lot of people with

kidney disease. And when you look around all the

dialysis units there like on all corners and, you know, in the
26:43
city and some, I mean, I know, because in my case, my disease,
26:49
Cerreta, Terry, but we can, we get Mike, you say the diet,

drink it being just staying hydrated, drinking water.

And I just alkaline water because that was one of the
27:02
things too that I started doing a.
27:04
I was a vegetarian already. But when I started drinking
27:08
alkaline water and it was a young lady that shared her dad
27:12
story with me, to tell me to drink the alkaline water and it
27:17
was but the Lord And intervening with me.

I had left my doctor's appointment that day and I went
27:23
by this store and the young lady, you know, said hello.
27:27
And she said, are you okay? And I said no because the doctor
27:31
told me then I was already stage five and he said, oh, you should
27:34
have been on dialysis, you should have been on dialysis at
27:37
stage 4 and I was like, really, and I mean, when I came out of
27:40
that office, I was in tears. And because I told my husband, I
27:44
say, he told me I need to make an appointment to get the shot
27:47
in my arm. And, you know, I don't think an
27:50
old boy. And again, I was so grateful
27:53
that day because Jeff said, see your knees auction and they are
28:00
just only fortunate 7% but they're not.

They had completely shut down yet.

So there's they're just then at seven percent and that's enough
28:10
to sustain you because I wasn't sick.

I would ride my bike, might write, three and a half miles a
28:17
day and I can't. Said, and I'm serious, and I
28:21
felt good, you know, except being a little tired.

But when I would wake up some mornings of course you know
28:26
you're going to have Satan sake. Hmm.

When it's today is the day your kidneys, bladder, right?

I would just dismiss that in like, go over there it.

Is it even on my face? Hey, you know, I would say no

negative Vibes and even when I would talk to people, you know,

they say, when do you need it kidney?

Well, you know what my son. So they They needed a kidney,

they didn't get it and I said, hey, that's and I spoke it.

I mean, I really believe that the words we speak.

That's what come in again. And I said, then I said, I'm not

even going to allow negativity nowhere on my platform and that
29:08
I would I would just shake that thought today is not going to be
29:12
the day that my kidneys fail and they did not.

And I just I had to Really, and truly get serious about my faith

in my walk with the Lord, because nobody can help you hear

your parents, your husband, your children.

This is between you and the Lord.

Yes. So, back to back to that and the

young lady told me after I told her what I said and she said,

you know about being on dialysis and she said, oh, they told my
29:48
head Six years ago and I said, oh, yeah, and she said, yeah

not. So how is he doing?

Because, you know, I'm thinking, maybe he's on dialysis or maybe
29:57
he had right. And she said, he's and I said

he's fine. And she said, yes ma'am.

She said, have you heard of alkaline water and I'm not
30:06
trying to promote promote, right?

Telling you. This is my story.

Really. Yes, he shared with me and I
30:14
told I hadn't heard that, so she was working behind the counter.

She's what I'm going to You over here and show you where, you
30:20
know, where it is, and she did. And from that day on, I started

drinking alkaline water and now I've been drinking it now.

I mean, I don't know how many years and again, I knew that was

just the Lord directed me today is in and she said, her daddy

started drinking alkaline water. He did not go on dialysis and
30:43
she said, he's fine. Now that again, my story is not
30:48
somebody. Else's story.

This is what the Lord did for me and I give him praise.

That's that's, but him to allow me to meet this young lady and

she shared that with me. I actually believe, well, it was

him first, but that stabilized, my kidney function until I
31:09
needed a kidney. And, I mean, they do, but they
31:12
came very close because, you know, you, there's finds that

you have you, you know, you when you urinate.

If you start to see bubbles in the water, then that means that
31:23
your protein is collected in your body, and that's not a good
31:28
sign. And I was, I was to that point
31:30
where I saw that, I didn't tell my husband, I didn't tell
31:33
anybody, but that's when I got the call for the kidney.

And I received my kidney transplant, July 20th 2021 and

now I have had a transplant for one.

One year and two months and my kidney working.

Awesome. And why?

I mean before, even like when I said it was working at 7%, huh?

Wow, it's working. Now in the Lord, the number the

better, the kidney function, it is.

I got my results today and it is working at one point for wow.

What a blessed. And I'm like, oh my goodness.

So I never complained that. I have to use the bathroom,

which I never stopped anyway, but sometimes that's how well it
32:27
happened to people. They can't urinate and I'm sorry

if I'm grossing people out, but no Union.

Thank you for being transparent because I mean, that's just some

of the things that people don't realize and then when you start

to, which I never started In your ankles start to swell then

fluid is being its retaining in your body.

And that's not a good sign, you know?

Because even, you know, people like to say, oh my ankle is

swollen. I've been up on it all day, I

know this already. So I just want people to be

mindful and just try to eat better and just take care of

themself because you can have all the money in the world.

I'm telling you, you can't. I kidding me.

I mean, there are people that try to do that, but money can't
33:21
even buy it and you're going to have all that money stacked up

in the corner if you need a glass of water.

If the money can't bring you a glass of water.

And I I mean your health to me is it's like you because you

can't put a price on it and and and I I am grateful and thankful

for the strides of medicine because I mean if the Lord has

not given them, the knowledge to be able to do this.

Because when you think about taking an organ out of one

person, something to somebody else, it into somebody else and

it works, I mean that's why it doesn't matter what color.

But it, I mean, you know, there's a greater being that you

do it but I just hope that I can just trying to bring kidney

awareness to people and and to eat, right to eat better and and

feel free to call me. I mean, ask me anything because

if I can help just one person as I travel.

My living won't be inviting Zhang because all the way I had

the Lord had position people in my path, for me to get here

again. Like you said, they're my story

and he know, I have a big mouth and well, that's two of us.

And I find myself just sharing it with whoever I can because I
