- 0:00Let's begin with the definition of the word mother.
- 0:05In the dictionary, it says a mother is a woman in a relation to a child or children
- 0:11to whom she has given birth to. Pretty straightforward, wouldn't you agree?
- 0:17It's not a flattering, though, or honorable definition. Always believe that.
- 0:22See, today, we're going to actually rewrite the definition. And we're going
- 0:28to set this record straight.
- 0:29See, together, we're going to use scripture and examples of just how important it is to be a mother.
- 0:36And I'm going to do it from a child's point of view.
- 0:40So let's face facts. Mothers have an incredible job. It is a job of no pay.
- 0:47No position in the business world compares to the physical, emotional,
- 0:52and spiritual commitment when it comes to motherhood.
- 0:55A mother doesn't take a course or preliminary test On how to prepare for such an important role,
- 1:03In the Bible it says May your father and mother rejoice May she who gave you birth be joyful.
- 1:12A mother's job begins from the moment we are born,
- 1:16She is the first person who ever touched you She kept us in her womb for months,
- 1:25And when we came out, her first priority was to hold you.
- 1:29And then she cuddled with you.
- 1:32She stroked your head. She rubbed your feet.
- 1:36She held your little cheeks against hers.
- 1:39She gave you a finger to grasp. She changed your diapers. She potty trained you.
- 1:47She watched you crawl. And when it was time, she held your hands out so you
- 1:54could take your first steps.
- 1:59She held the Kleenex for you to blow your nose. She wiped food off your faces.
- 2:04She rocked you back and forth until you fell asleep.
- 2:08She consistently touched you. She told you that she loved you.
- 2:15When you were little, she could say, give me a kiss.
- 2:20I've even heard mothers and grandmothers say the current expression,
- 2:24come and give me some sugar.
- 2:26And you'd pucker up And you'd even give her a kiss Even if her mouth was full
- 2:31of food And just saliva Just a sloppy kiss And they would even say thank you,
- 2:38When you were little You gave her a bear hug So tight She didn't have to hold on to you,
- 2:46You would just cling on to her As she walked around It was almost as if she
- 2:51felt A great relief Great pressure and great honesty and received this amazing
- 2:58pleasure of joy and happiness and love as she received those special hugs.
- 3:06When I speak of bear hugs and hugs in general, you know, I can't help but remember
- 3:10being young and in elementary school.
- 3:14And when I talk about hugs, that part reminds me of my mom.
- 3:20You know, growing up, I always was a mama's boy. I really was,
- 3:24especially during grades, kindergarten through fifth grade.
- 3:28As I attended my local elementary school, my mom was a crossing guard.
- 3:33Now you heard in, you know, recent episodes, she was a crossing guard for her town, our town.
- 3:39And I remember when I was the young boy who always cried when it was time to
- 3:43leave my mom just to go to school. I didn't want to leave her side.
- 3:48As a young boy growing up, I was never embarrassed to hug my mother, not even in public.
- 3:5440 years later, I still hug my mom in public with love and pride To me,
- 3:59once my mom gave me that special hug It was everything just seemed okay,
- 4:04And even though you had to let her go The feeling would last forever,
- 4:10I can recall being asked by my friends Why do you hug your mom all the time?
- 4:15To me, it was very simple My mom is my best friend,
- 4:21As I got older, I noticed the world today Too often, many kids are embarrassed
- 4:25To show affection to their mother or father So here's my question to all of
- 4:31you When was the last time you gave your mother a big hug?
- 4:36When was the last time you gave her a big hug Without asking for it?
- 4:42A kiss on the cheek, maybe even a back rub. Or maybe just sat on the couch and spoke with her.
- 4:50You know, mothers have a sympathetic ear. Mothers listen as you pour out your
- 4:55heart. Mothers have the best radar.
- 4:59I think a lot of moms would agree with that. Mothers always know when something's wrong.
- 5:06I've had friends who have lived hundreds of miles away, and the mother would
- 5:10call them out of the blue and say, Is everything okay?
- 5:14Growing up, I discovered a point in every kid's mind or young adult's life when
- 5:19sitting next to your mom in public or hugging her is the most embarrassing thing.
- 5:24Even if they kiss you in front of your friends. It's like a pretty much of a
- 5:28social nightmare. No, no, no, mom. Don't kiss me. Don't kiss me.
- 5:34Remember, the day a child is born, so is a mother.
- 5:39The woman was always there But it wasn't until the second Their little baby
- 5:45boy or girl was born That a mother was born,
- 5:49A mother and her child have a special bond That only they can understand,
- 5:56You know, you can fool most of your moms Or most of your friends,
- 6:00I should say Most of the time But you can't fool mom,
- 6:05She sees right through you and always knows when something's wrong.
- 6:11Some would even say that mother's radar is a mother's intuition.
- 6:15I say it's a mother's love and a bond for her child.
- 6:20A mother will always show you understanding even when you think you don't deserve it.
- 6:27The Bible will tell you that as a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.
- 6:35I can recall back in 2005 When a buddy of mine wanted to go out for the day
- 6:40to the beach It was a warm sunny day You know beach weather day As we were getting
- 6:46ready to go out His mother called and asked if he was there.
- 6:52You see, my buddy didn't want to do anything at that moment.
- 6:57He wanted to just go to the beach.
- 6:59And as we were getting ready to go out, you know, the mom had already reached
- 7:03out to him and asked if he was doing anything that day.
- 7:06And he was so quick to say, yeah, I'm busy, mom.
- 7:11And I remember saying to my buddy, I says, you know, why don't you just take her out?
- 7:17Do what you got to do. The beach isn't going anywhere.
- 7:21And as the mom eventually called him and he
- 7:24was still packing as if we're going to the beach he ignored her
- 7:27she's talking away he's packing the bag and i'm
- 7:30looking at him i'm like listen listen to your mom she's talking to
- 7:33you he had shown her no respect he
- 7:37was still packing his bag and she's talking away about how excited
- 7:40she was if she can go out and take her to you know the store and
- 7:43just run errands with her so i quickly jumped in on the conversation i was like
- 7:48hey how you doing you know no listen um yeah he's gonna pick you up in about
- 7:5230 minutes just get ready he's gonna be there so i hung up the phone and he
- 7:57began to argue with me he was like what are you doing man this is my day off
- 8:01i don't want to do anything but go to the beach,
- 8:05i said listen man go to go and be with your mom my mom's not here she's in new
- 8:10york and we're in rhode island i'm like listen go go be with your mom i killed
- 8:13out my mom here right now i was like go, have a good day.
- 8:17The beach isn't going anywhere. Go for two hours. We could still make it to the beach.
- 8:23So it was so early in the morning and I made him go. I told him he had to go.
- 8:28So he went and after about 15 minutes of arguing, I should say,
- 8:34he finally did decide to go and he went and I went back home.
- 8:39You know what's interesting? We never made it to the beach that day.
- 8:44He eventually called me back that evening and told me that he was having so
- 8:49much fun with her, he decided to take her out to dinner.
- 8:54You know, the Bible will tell you that children should obey your parents in
- 8:59the Lord, for this is right.
- 9:03It tells you to honor your father and mother, that it may go well with you,
- 9:08and that you You may live long in the land. It's right out of the Bible.
- 9:15Every year we celebrate Mother's Day. Every year we all go out,
- 9:20we buy flowers, we buy candy, we buy our mother's diamond necklaces. Well, wait a minute.
- 9:25I mean, maybe not diamond necklaces, okay? Let's not go too far.
- 9:32But here's a thought. Why do we have to wait once a year for that Mother's Day
- 9:37to come around for our children and our loved ones to treat their moms like queens and princesses?
- 9:46Why do we have to wait for Father's Day to do that or Grandparents' Day? Why?
- 9:52Our parents deserve our touch, our affection, our love each and every day. Believe me.
- 10:00It would mean more to them to show that type of commitment of respect,
- 10:04love, and affection each and every day than to shower them once a year with
- 10:08flowers, candy, or gifts.
- 10:13Honor your father and your mother So that you may live long In the land The
- 10:19Lord your God is giving you,
- 10:22So I This message is for all kids All teenagers All young adults Everywhere
- 10:29out there that listens to this show The next time your mother Asks you the following questions.
- 10:36That I know all of you have often heard Where have you been? Where are you going?
- 10:44When are you coming home? Did you clean your room? Did you make your bed?
- 10:51Did you do your homework? Did you feed the dog or the cat? Did you take the garbage out?
- 11:00Did you do the dishes?
- 11:04Did you pay your bills, fellow husbands, by the way? This message applies to us too.
- 11:12Because as a married man myself, I can recall a verse from the Bible and it's Proverbs 18, verse 22.
- 11:20It says, he who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.
- 11:28Always remember that mothers deserve our attention. Mothers deserve our affection.
- 11:35Mothers should always be told two things. Thank you. And I love you.
- 11:42Ladies, whether you have children of your own or not, you can still have the heart of a mom.
- 11:53The heart of a mom is one that encourages, inspires, invests in the lives of others.
- 12:00It is a heart that nurtures and influences people With love and tenderness,
- 12:08We all have the opportunities to influence and inspire others We all have the
- 12:15opportunity to deposit words of faith And encouragement into each other's hearts,
- 12:21We can be an example of love and faith Because there's nothing on earth like
- 12:27the treasure of a mother's heart,
- 12:30To all mothers who have invested so much into their lives of their children, may you be blessed.
- 12:37May you be strengthened and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
- 12:42May you know that the greatest of the gift that you are to this world.
- 12:52And let me just conclude by saying this, you know, I leave everyone with what
- 13:00my mom always tells me, you know, my mom always, since I was a kid, says to me,
- 13:05angel, when you know, when you were born, all the angels came from heaven.
- 13:08Do you know why? Because you're special.
- 13:10Moms always have a certain thing they say to you.
- 13:13So if there's a thing that your mom says to you or a grandparent that raised
- 13:16you and any of those, remember what they said to you.
- 13:23So my definition of mother comes out of the bible because when i hear the word
- 13:29mother i think of corinthians chapter 13 and it goes just like this if you've
- 13:34never heard it love is patient,
- 13:37love is kind it does not envy it does not boast it is not proud it does not
- 13:45dishonor others It is not self-seeking It is not easily angered It keeps no
- 13:51record of wrongs Love does not delight in evil But rejoices with the truth,
- 13:57It always protects Always hopes,
- 14:02Always perseveres,
- 14:05That is what a mother is all about,
- 14:10Parents Honor one another Believe in one another believe in yourself believe
- 14:19in God believe in your parents,
- 14:23honor them respect them,
- 14:27each and every day.
- 14:33Remember that a mother's smile can brighten any moment a mother's hugs put joy
- 14:40in all our days as we join together and honor each women every single day.
- 14:47Remember those who are smiling down from the heavens, and let us remember to
- 14:52honor them and honor our parents and our mothers each and every day.
- 14:59Have faith. Let it begin. I love you, Mom. You're my best friend.
