- 0:02SPEAKER_00: All right, everybody.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: How you doing this morning?
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Let's talk a little bit about where we've been lately, what we've been talking about, the whole idea of um what do you want?
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: And um I want you to live a life that you're proud of.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: I want you to live a life that's energized.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Um, I want you to live a life that you feel um represents uh your heart and your desire.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: So we've been talking about like we talked about blind Bartimaeus, Mark chapter 10, and uh blind Bartimaeus, and um, if you remember correctly, and you can look it up.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: I think it's verses 46 through 52.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: But bottom line is blind Bartimaeus got Jesus' attention.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Jesus calls him over, and Jesus asked a blind beggar, What do you want me to do for you?
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: What do you want me to do for you?
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: What have you decided that if I told you I'd do anything you wanted, what have you decided you want me to do for you?
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And um I just think it's interesting to think about wow, this is uh Jesus is a pretty intelligent person talking to a blind beggar and asking him, What do you want me to do for you?
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: It seems like the answer should be obvious.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: So why ask the question?
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And I believe this, guys, I believe, I believe you have to partner with God to create your miracle, if you will.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: And uh let me make it a little more down-to-earth.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: I believe you have to participate in your journey toward the future that you want.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: I believe you have to show up.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: I believe you have to um wake up every day and say, I want blank.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: And um there's just something about this is really important, guys.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: This is 40 years uh of plugging away, poking prodding, uh, you know, begging people, wanting to help them change.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Well, here's the deal, guys.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: I I've I've come to some conclusions about how God made us, how God designed us, how God created us, built us.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: And here's something I've concluded.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: You and I are designed by God to function at our peak.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: There's a there's a cool uh phrase that's out there in the business world: peak performance.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: There's a there's you know, you we talk about being in the zone.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Uh there's a lot of writing and uh psychological research done on the concept of flow.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And what that means is you're engaged in some activity, some pursuit, some endeavor that has you so energized, so focused, so at the edge of your seat and the edge of your current capability that you are fully awake, fully alive, fully energized.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: And it's this state they call flow.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: We've all experienced it, some more often than others, some very, very, very rarely.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: But here's my point: you are designed and created by God to function at your best when you're intentionally engaging the space between what is and what could be.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: In other words, um, something we're gonna talk about over the next few weeks.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: I'll throw the thought in here now, but we're gonna build on it.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Comfort, comfort, comfort.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Think about comfort.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Comfort is not your friend.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Comfort is not your friend.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Now I know I like comfort.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: I like comfort.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: I love getting home.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: I love I love being with my wife.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: I love it, I love a nice cup of coffee in the morning, um, I love sitting in bed reading a book, I love comfort.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: But listen to me, guys.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Too much comfort, too much desire for comfort numbs you, um, robs you.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Now, what am I getting at?
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: If I asked you what one word, what one word describes where you are in life right now?
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: What one word describes however many years you've been alive, right now, what one word, all you get's one, you just get one.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: What one word describes your life right now?
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Now, you could come up with lots of them, you know, you know, with that with COVID and all the craziness going on.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: You could say bored, tired, you know, depressed, anxious, uh, whatever.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: You could say, you know, joyful, expectant, all kinds of things.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Well, I've thought about this a lot and I've played with it a lot in speaking in small groups and big groups and playing with people's heads, which I like to do.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: And um I've come to this conclusion.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: There's one word that describes where all of us are right now and every moment of our lives.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: There's one word.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Now, there's probably more.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying this is the best or the only, but there is a word that I believe is helpful, useful, stirring, that helps us if we can wrestle it, grasp it, hug it.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: One word that describes where you are right now and every moment of your life.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: And here's my one word for this context.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: My one word is between.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Between.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: What do you mean?
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: One word that describes where I am right now in my life?
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: You're between.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: What are you between?
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: You're between yesterday and tomorrow.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: You're between your past and your future, you're between promise and provision.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: You're between deliverance and destiny.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: You're between what is and what could be.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: You're between what is and what could be.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: There is never a moment of your life that you don't live in this land of between.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Now, here's what I'm trying to say to you: the land of between is not comfortable.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: It's not comfortable to live in a place where you are intentionally, consciously aware that you're not where you were and you're not where you want to be.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: You're not where you were and you're not where you want to be.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: I'm on my way.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Now, why did I throw in the phrase that we're going to build on over the next couple of weeks?
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Comfort's not your friend.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Because here's the deal: if your goal is comfort, you've stepped out of the land of between.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: If your goal is comfort, you've stepped out of the land of between.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: We live every moment of our life between what we are currently competent at and what we're not yet competent at.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: We we live in this gap between what we know about ourselves and what we don't know about ourselves.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: We live in this between what we've what we've come to know and believe about God and the infinite wealth of what's left of what we could know and believe about God.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: We're always between.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: And living in between means we've got to make decisions about am I going to number one acknowledge that I'm between?
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: And then number two, what am I going to do with that?
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: And I believe, if you circle back around, I believe the question, what do you want?
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: What do you want?
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: What do you want?
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: What do you want?
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: What do you want?
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: What do you want, man?
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: What do you what do you need to just shake yourself?
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: What do you want?
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: And what do you want strongly enough, badly enough, that it makes you press into that zone of between and admit to yourself, I don't like this aspect of my life the way it is.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And I'm not okay with it.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: I'm not okay with what is.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: I want to go after what could be.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: Now, what you've just done is you've entered the land of between.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Guess what, guys?
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: You were designed to be at your best when you intentionally, courageously engage and live in this space between what is and what could be.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Let's learn to live there.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Let's learn to it's it's a it's a moving goalpost, you might say.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: But let's let's live in the tension, not the comfort.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Let's live in the challenge, not the everybody gets a trophy.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Because you know what?
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: In life, everybody doesn't get a trophy.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, but they don't.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Life's waiting for you.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: There's there's there's gifts hanging off the trees all around you.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: But you gotta come get them.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: You gotta come get them.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Alright?
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Love you guys, and I hope that comes through what I'm saying.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: But let's want, and let's admit we want, and let's embrace the discomfort when we're between what is and what could be.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Later, guys.
