Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: My thoughts on the Pay Equity Bill
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Rage in the House, Chaos in the House for a
- 0:02Speaker 1: second day in a row, this over the pay equity Bill.
- 0:04Speaker 1: The question for National is whether this outrage in Parliament
- 0:07Speaker 1: will translate to outrage at the ballot box. Sure there
- 0:11Speaker 1: is a new legal framework that's been set up with
- 0:14Speaker 1: higher thresholds for pay equity claims, but Labour is doing
- 0:17Speaker 1: its darndest to create the impression that there's not and
- 0:21Speaker 1: if that impression sticks, it could I stress, could be
- 0:25Speaker 1: a problem for National. Dutton was emasculated at the poll's
- 0:28Speaker 1: last Saturday in part because he wasn't well liked by women.
- 0:31Speaker 1: The red landslide sweets Heartland handed Elbow the wind and
- 0:34Speaker 1: cost him his own seat. In Brisbane's northern suburbs and
- 0:37Speaker 1: across Queensland, young voters and women broke for Elbow. So
- 0:41Speaker 1: the question for National is whether it's just created a
- 0:44Speaker 1: problem for twenty twenty six. Will women give Luxen a
- 0:49Speaker 1: swift kick in the gonads next year? That's the question.
- 0:52Speaker 1: The bill does create a risk of them doing so,
- 0:55Speaker 1: especially the fact it's ran through under urgency. To counter that,
- 0:59Speaker 1: you've got to sell the changes right now in the
- 1:02Speaker 1: fog of war, they're not getting the cut through the
- 1:04Speaker 1: critics your jan Tinetti's. They're winning the pr game, but
- 1:08Speaker 1: when the dust settles, they need to explain with specific examples,
- 1:12Speaker 1: which of those thirty three deals in the pipeline all
- 1:16Speaker 1: deals done thus far were bad or rotten and why
- 1:20Speaker 1: this is not to say all women vote the same
- 1:23Speaker 1: or even together in a block. Life is not one
- 1:25Speaker 1: big sister hit the hood of the Traveling Pants. After all,
- 1:28Speaker 1: women didn't show up for KRMLA Harris last November, and
- 1:31Speaker 1: the States remember that. Even though MSNBC was basically saying
- 1:34Speaker 1: Trump would remove your womb, women ditched labor after Jacinda
- 1:39Speaker 1: left the building and the NATS picked them up. This
- 1:42Speaker 1: pay equity bill is a risk to that support. A
- 1:45Speaker 1: bit of a gamble, not one that can't be overcome,
- 1:48Speaker 1: but you've got to sell your story. For more from
