Lucas: Today, we're going to the hairdresser — de kapper. You'll learn how to book an appointment and say what you want. Luna: Oh, that's perfect! I always get nervous saying 'kapper' in Dutch. Is it like 'capper'? Lucas: Close! It's 'kapper' — hard K, then 'apper'. De kapper. Luna: De kapper. Got it. So first, how do I say I want to make an appointment? Lucas: Great question. You say: Ik wil graag een afspraak maken. Luna: Ik wil graag een afspraak maken. That's a mouthful! 'Afspraak' means appointment? Lucas: Exactly. Afspraak is appointment. And 'maken' means to make. So literally: I would like to make an appointment. Luna: Ik wil graag een afspraak maken. Okay, I'll practice that. What if I want to say I want a haircut? Lucas: You say: Ik wil mijn haar laten knippen. Luna: Ik wil mijn haar laten knippen. 'Haar' is hair, right? Lucas: Yes. Mijn haar — my hair. Laten knippen means to have it cut. So you're saying: I want to have my hair cut. Luna: Ik wil mijn haar laten knippen. That feels good to say. Alright, and after the haircut, I need to pay. How do I ask for the bill? Lucas: You can say: Mag ik de rekening? Or if you want to ask the price, say: Hoeveel kost het? Luna: Mag ik de rekening? and Hoeveel kost het? Simple enough. And thanking the hairdresser is just 'dank u wel'. Lucas: Exactly. Dank u wel is polite. Let's practice a full dialogue. You're at the kapper. You walk in and say...? Luna: Ik wil graag een afspraak maken. Lucas: The hairdresser asks what you want. You say...? Luna: Ik wil mijn haar laten knippen. Lucas: Perfect. After the cut, you ask for the bill. Luna: Mag ik de rekening? Lucas: And they tell you the price. You ask 'hoeveel kost het?' if you need to confirm. Luna: Hoeveel kost het? And then I say 'dank u wel'. Lucas: Yes! You've got it.
