- Sean Graver: Do you work in a place where people cuss? Not occasionally. Just ⁓ that's the language of the room. You know, and somewhere along the way you've had to figure out how to navigate that. Whether to say something or whether just to ignore it, and whether over time you just start fitting in, whether you meant to or not. Well, welcome back. I'm Sean, and this is Prayer Before Work. ⁓ the Apostle Paul writes in Romans twelve, two. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Now he wrote this to people living and working inside a culture that didn't share their values. So that's not a new problem. It just sounds different in every generation. And let's be realistic. Our goal here is not to be the office language police. Nobody wants to be in that position. And you don't need to be. ⁓ but here's the real question Paul's asking. Over time, who is shaping who? Is the environment gradually reshaping your language, your tolerance, the way you talk about people when you're away from the building? Or is there something in you that's staying rooted, even when the defaults all around you are different? Because you can easily adopt the language of others. It may not be a sudden change, but one day you find yourself using words that you wouldn't use at home or at church, and you can't quite pinpoint when it changed. The renewal Paul is talking about is daily. It's bringing your mind back to what you believe and what you value, who you actually want to be, and not just on Sundays, but walking back into that building on Monday morning as well. You don't have to say anything to anyone about it. You just have to stay honest with yourself. Stay rooted. Don't let the room decide who you are. So let's pray. Lord, I'm in a world that has its own language, which is often offensive, and I don't want to be shaped by that and slip into a habit that's not honoring to you. So, Lord, renew my mind today. Give me the kind of conviction that helps me avoid conforming. to the world's norms and let me be a steady presence in my workplace. Not preachy, just grounded. Help me not lose myself in the noise of the day to day. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen. Now let's go make today count.
