- 1:04Speaker 1: This portion of the program is brought to you by
- 1:07Speaker 1: Radiant Dentistry. You're here on a really good day. In
- 1:10Speaker 1: just a few minutes, we're going to be joined by
- 1:15Speaker 1: Ranger Doug, the idol of American Youth and leader of
- 1:20Speaker 1: the group Writers in the Sky. They have a new
- 1:24Speaker 1: book out through a and im Press. They will be
- 1:26Speaker 1: here next Wednesday and Thursday, for the first events of
- 1:30Speaker 1: MSc Opus Ranger Doug is going to join me here
- 1:34Speaker 1: in a few minutes. We've got a high school report.
- 1:37Speaker 1: We're going to hear from defensive back Marcus Ratliffe in
- 1:40Speaker 1: the second hour. Did I say Ratcliffe? In the second hour,
- 1:46Speaker 1: we have the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition. I am gonna
- 1:52Speaker 1: replay an interview I did several months ago that was
- 1:55Speaker 1: one of my all time favorites, and that was Ryan
- 2:01Speaker 1: Crow wrote a article on Texas Monthly on growing big
- 2:08Speaker 1: largemouth bass, a gigantic double digit bass. Very interesting story.
- 2:14Speaker 1: We're going to visit with him coming up in the
- 2:16Speaker 1: second hour of the program. I need to pull this
- 2:22Speaker 1: up because I did not get this off the printer.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I just printed this story. It is a large news
- 2:30Speaker 1: concerning college football, and I'm going to find it here
- 2:37Speaker 1: very soon. But it has to do with changing the
- 2:42Speaker 1: transfer portal, a one time thing in January. Let me
- 2:50Speaker 1: see if I can get there. If I can't, I
- 2:53Speaker 1: will get the story here in a minute, and then
- 2:55Speaker 1: I'll read everything that I'm supposed to read about it.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Let me see if I can do this. Oh, I
- 3:09Speaker 1: can't do this. Quit that.
- 3:11Speaker 5: There we go all right, let's do this.
- 3:17Speaker 6: Now.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I have to wait. Anyway, they're changing kind of how
- 3:22Speaker 1: the transfer portal works. I think coaches everywhere will at
- 3:25Speaker 1: least be partially happy about the changes coming. Of course,
- 3:29Speaker 1: they have to go this is the NCAA. They have
- 3:33Speaker 1: to go through fifteen different committees because they're all paid,
- 3:36Speaker 1: you know, six figures to have big offices in Indianapolis
- 3:39Speaker 1: and not do anything. But hey, that's just me. The
- 3:42Speaker 1: Aggies are getting ready to host Utah State on Saturday morning.
- 3:46Speaker 1: That is an eleven forty five kickoff. Also, Ross Buyork
- 3:53Speaker 1: remember him. He's now the athletic director in Ohio State.
- 3:57Speaker 1: He still says they want a lie teams in the playoffs. Selfishly,
- 4:03Speaker 1: Ohio State could stay at four. We could go back
- 4:06Speaker 1: to four most years and be okay. At twelve we
- 4:09Speaker 1: should be okay. We got to keep doing our part.
- 4:12Speaker 1: We've got to keep investing and keep coaching and keep recruiting.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I'm a believer that for the good of the game,
- 4:19Speaker 1: for the health of the game, for content, for high
- 4:23Speaker 1: level matchups, we should expand. Could we go to sixteen,
- 4:30Speaker 1: could we go to twenty, could we go to twenty four?
- 4:34Speaker 1: There's proposals out there to go to twenty eight, A
- 4:37Speaker 1: couple would go to thirty two. But here's well, you
- 4:42Speaker 1: can't argue with nobody can argue with what's wrong with
- 4:46Speaker 1: more high level football? I would argue that if you
- 4:50Speaker 1: go with that many teams, you're not really seeing quote
- 4:55Speaker 1: high level football. Speaking of which, sixteen million par people
- 5:01Speaker 1: watched Texas and Ohio State on Saturday, and ESPN says
- 5:09Speaker 1: ten million more watched their games, So apparently college football
- 5:16Speaker 1: is not ruined. The new College Sports Commission has cleared
- 5:21Speaker 1: more than eight thousand, three hundred nil deals totally nearly
- 5:26Speaker 1: eighty million dollars. This is their first update on how
- 5:31Speaker 1: the new system is working. The college sports Commissions in
- 5:35Speaker 1: charge of approving contracts worth six hundred and more between
- 5:39Speaker 1: athletes and third parties. He says over twenty eight thousand
- 5:44Speaker 1: athletes signed up for the nil go platform and nearly
- 5:49Speaker 1: thirty two hundred agents, three hundred and thirty two deals
- 5:54Speaker 1: have not been cleared. Seventy five resubmitted in arbitration, but again,
- 6:02Speaker 1: twenty eight thousand student athletes signed up, over eighty million
- 6:07Speaker 1: improved so far. We have talked this weekend. It's a
- 6:12Speaker 1: Southwest conference weekend Baylor, and I beg your pardon. SMU
- 6:20Speaker 1: and Baylor playing SMU and TCU come next week, but
- 6:24Speaker 1: there's no guarantees these teams are going to play anytime soon.
- 6:28Speaker 1: The Mustangs will host Baylor this weekend. Next year will
- 6:33Speaker 1: be the last of the schedule SMU Baylor. After twenty
- 6:37Speaker 1: twenty seven, no Southwest Conference matchups remain on SMU's schedule.
- 6:47Speaker 1: SMU and Baylor will get two cracks. As I mentioned,
- 6:51Speaker 1: Rett Lashly, the SMU coach, says, we haven't beat Baylor
- 6:55Speaker 1: since anybody on our team was even remotely thought of
- 6:59Speaker 1: being alive. Says Dave Randa, I feel very much pressure
- 7:05Speaker 1: and need to win. Well, he just needs to win
- 7:08Speaker 1: a game. Playing SMU up the Annie Astros Yankees. The
- 7:15Speaker 1: Astros will try to split the series after winning last night.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Christian Xavier is on the mound. You can hear that
- 7:24Speaker 1: broadcast here on the Zone. Eight to seven the final.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Last night, the Stros scored five runs total in the
- 7:33Speaker 1: seventh and eighth inning but almost coughed it up. Gave
- 7:36Speaker 1: up three to the Yankees in the night, but hold
- 7:38Speaker 1: on to win eight to seven. Their lead is four
- 7:44Speaker 1: I believe over the Rangers and three and a half
- 7:49Speaker 1: over Seattle. Major League Baseball has suspended Giants third baseman
- 7:54Speaker 1: Matt Chapman for a game and fine fellow Giants Willia
- 7:59Speaker 1: Dam and Rafael Devers and Rockets left hander Kyle Friedland
- 8:05Speaker 1: as their part in a benches clearing on Tuesday. Two
- 8:10Speaker 1: batters into the game, Devers hit a long home run
- 8:17Speaker 1: and Friedland didn't like that. He admired it. If you've
- 8:20Speaker 1: seen the tape, I don't think he admired it very long.
- 8:24Speaker 1: He started yelling as Devers was going to first base.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Devers yelled back, and well, boys will be boys at
- 8:33Speaker 1: the US Open Women's semifinals tonight, Sabalinka against Pagula and
- 8:41Speaker 1: Osaka against Amanda Anissimova. That is the semifinals tonight, Men's
- 8:49Speaker 1: semis tomorrow evening Center advanced of course last night, so
- 8:57Speaker 1: we're getting closer to that. Men's finals on Saturday, Men's
- 9:03Speaker 1: finals on Sunday. All right, coming up, Ranger Doug is
- 9:09Speaker 1: going to join me. We've got a high school report,
- 9:12Speaker 1: we've got the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition, and of course
- 9:17Speaker 1: animals attacking all of that. Coming up tomorrow, I will
- 9:23Speaker 1: visit with Kirk Bowles also with we'll do our Aggie
- 9:29Speaker 1: football preview. Tony Catalina of the Austin American Statesman is
- 9:35Speaker 1: going to join me. He does every Friday for the
- 9:37Speaker 1: Aggie Football Preview. Young Ryan old Will will also be
- 9:41Speaker 1: in tomorrow hosting the program and Monday the writers Roundtable
- 9:47Speaker 1: rides again. We'll talk about the football weekend. All right,
- 9:52Speaker 1: Ranger Doug after the final lap. Brought to you by
- 9:55Speaker 1: Chad Jones Law.
- 9:58Speaker 7: I'm Chad Jones. Ward's injuries hurt, and so do injuries
- 10:01Speaker 7: from car recks. But you didn't sign up to be
- 10:04Speaker 7: in a car wreck with someone who wasn't paying attention.
- 10:06Speaker 7: It was their fault and now you're left to deal
- 10:08Speaker 7: with the consequences. You need to see a doctor, and
- 10:10Speaker 7: you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help. We've been
- 10:13Speaker 7: helping our neighbors for more than two decades. Stop getting
- 10:16Speaker 7: frustrated with the other side's foot dragging. Remember, don't get mad.
- 10:20Speaker 7: Get Chad. Call Chad Jones Law at ninety seven nine
- 10:23Speaker 7: five to ninety five five thousand, or go online to
- 10:25Speaker 7: Chad Jones Law dot com.
- 10:30Speaker 8: Cup Series Playoff driver Christopher Bell is on and he's
- 10:32Speaker 8: talking about Gateway heading into this weekend where that's where
- 10:35Speaker 8: they're racing.
- 10:36Speaker 9: At least by our standards, I was the best scar
- 10:39Speaker 9: at Gayway. You're going to have to pass Ryan for
- 10:42Speaker 9: the win, but I had more pace than him at
- 10:44Speaker 9: that time that my engine, you know, had had him.
- 10:46Speaker 10: In mechanical failure.
- 10:48Speaker 9: So Gayway is definitely one that I feel really excited
- 10:51Speaker 9: about and probably the most optimistic about. But really all
- 10:54Speaker 9: three of them are great tracks that we could We
- 10:57Speaker 9: could win at any moment, and we should score p
- 10:59Speaker 9: one points and you know a few score points you're
- 11:01Speaker 9: gonna do, you mean, a.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Good spot to advance.
- 11:04Speaker 9: Blaney do it at Martinsville last year, and they're clearly
- 11:07Speaker 9: a great team, a title contending team. Joey essentially did
- 11:10Speaker 9: it at Las Vegas. His likelihood of making it was
- 11:13Speaker 9: not high if he didn't win that race. Yeah, it
- 11:15Speaker 9: can be done by great teams. I would say that
- 11:18Speaker 9: our biggest strength is road course racing, but there's a
- 11:20Speaker 9: guy named Saint van Guezberg and that keeps taking that away.
- 11:23Speaker 9: So the road courses have been really good, So I'm
- 11:25Speaker 9: optimistic about the roble. And obviously short tracks, flat tracks,
- 11:29Speaker 9: you know, the Phoenix Loud and Gateway. Those style tracks
- 11:32Speaker 9: have been really really good for us for a number
- 11:34Speaker 9: of years now. So between the Roval and those the
- 11:38Speaker 9: Gateway Loud in Phoenix, I think that's our bread and
- 11:40Speaker 9: butter intermediates. We've been close and able to run well,
- 11:44Speaker 9: but just seems like we're we have been a little
- 11:47Speaker 9: bit off on winning pace. But you know, I say
- 11:51Speaker 9: any week and it could change it any week and
- 11:53Speaker 9: we could go out there and win any of those races.
- 11:55Speaker 3: This is the final lap.
- 11:57Speaker 6: Moms and dads, do you wish you could know where
- 11:59Speaker 6: you're kids shoes are at all times? Now you can

- 13:03Speaker 1: a Thursday afternoon. I am very excited about our next guest.
- 13:08Speaker 1: He will be in town next Wednesday and Thursday at
- 13:13Speaker 1: Rudder Theater with his group Writers in the Sky. There
- 13:17Speaker 1: is a book about Ranger Doug and Writers in the
- 13:21Speaker 1: Sky through A and M Press that is just out
- 13:25Speaker 1: called Writers in the Sky Romancing the West with music
- 13:29Speaker 1: and Humor, written by Bobby Malone and Bill Malone. It
- 13:32Speaker 1: is the history of the group. It is fantastic. I
- 13:36Speaker 1: can't recommend it enough. Let's jump out to the Player's
- 13:39Speaker 1: fun Center phone line and visit with the idol of
- 13:42Speaker 1: American youth. He is ranger.
- 13:44Speaker 11: Doug, Doug, how are you good afternoon. I'm doing just
- 13:48Speaker 11: great at Harmony Ranch here.
- 13:53Speaker 1: This is a treat for me. I've been listening to
- 13:56Speaker 1: classic Cowboy Corral for a while. I love your show,
- 14:01Speaker 1: I love the music. I'm looking forward to seeing you
- 14:03Speaker 1: guys next week.
- 14:05Speaker 11: And we're sure looking forward to getting there.
- 14:08Speaker 1: You have put a few miles on various vehicles over
- 14:13Speaker 1: the last forty eight to fifty years.
- 14:15Speaker 11: Correct, Yeah, that's right, yep.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Do you know how many?
- 14:23Speaker 11: Slim has an estimate of it, but I've forgotten what
- 14:25Speaker 11: he said. In the millions, it is in the millions.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Do you do you know how many times you've been
- 14:31Speaker 1: stuck on the side of the road over the years.
- 14:36Speaker 11: Not specifically, but we've spent plenty of time by the
- 14:39Speaker 11: side of the road.
- 14:42Speaker 1: But you have. But you had your own You had
- 14:44Speaker 1: your own traveling mechanic with Woody Paul right, right.
- 14:49Speaker 11: We always say he couldn't fix things, but he made
- 14:52Speaker 11: them work.
- 14:54Speaker 1: He could get you to the next gig.
- 14:57Speaker 11: Right.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I'm just I'm fascinated with the story. First of all,
- 15:02Speaker 1: you decided to reintroduce to America a genre of music
- 15:10Speaker 1: that basically, at the time I think I'm fairly correct
- 15:15Speaker 1: in saying not a lot of people were clamoring for
- 15:20Speaker 1: to hear this genre of music in the nineteen seventies,
- 15:23Speaker 1: were they?
- 15:25Speaker 11: No, They sure weren't. I was so disappointed to see
- 15:29Speaker 11: the music I love so much relegated to the discount
- 15:33Speaker 11: bins in the record store in nostalgia. And to me,
- 15:37Speaker 11: it was music that still speaks to anyone, and I
- 15:42Speaker 11: tried to introduce it to our generation. I was a
- 15:45Speaker 11: young once, believe it or not, and the kids of
- 15:52Speaker 11: our generation picked up on it. They found something fun,
- 15:58Speaker 11: a little bit kitchy, but yeah, the music spoke so strongly,
- 16:02Speaker 11: and the humor, of course, that helped.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Tell tell our listeners how you found the music dog
- 16:10Speaker 1: and why it became special to you.
- 16:14Speaker 11: Well, in my case, we all have our own stories,
- 16:17Speaker 11: of course, there are four of us. But in my case,
- 16:20Speaker 11: I had two uncles who played the guitar and sang
- 16:23Speaker 11: with my mother, who was an excellent singer, and she
- 16:28Speaker 11: didn't play anything. And then so I grew up hearing that,
- 16:32Speaker 11: and then we moved to California in the fifties. My
- 16:36Speaker 11: dad was serving in the Navy at the time, and man,
- 16:40Speaker 11: there was Western music all over the TV, and you know,
- 16:45Speaker 11: Spade Cooley, Townhall, party, Western varieties. There's notts. Verry Farm
- 16:50Speaker 11: had live cowboy music. It just infused my childhood and
- 16:57Speaker 11: so I sort of, you know, went through the folk
- 17:00Speaker 11: and rock and all that stuff that bluegrass in the
- 17:04Speaker 11: seventies and high school and well, I should say college.
- 17:09Speaker 11: I was in high school in the sixty and I
- 17:13Speaker 11: heard it again. I heard the Sons of the Pioneers
- 17:16Speaker 11: play at a festival, and my eyes got the biggest saucers.
- 17:20Speaker 11: You know, I just said, that's it. That's the music
- 17:23Speaker 11: that meant so much to me when I was little.
- 17:27Speaker 1: You know, I knew about Gene Autry, I knew about
- 17:30Speaker 1: Roy Rogers. I watched the Cowboys shows on Saturday morning.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I knew who Tex Ritter was. I knew who Marty
- 17:38Speaker 1: Robbins was. You've introduced me to Carson Robinson and Patsy
- 17:43Speaker 1: Montana and Rosalie Allen. I mean, you went back aways
- 17:51Speaker 1: and as I mentioned, you started playing this music and
- 17:55Speaker 1: I read I read the story. I read the book.
- 17:59Speaker 1: I mean, and there were times you guys weren't playing
- 18:01Speaker 1: for a lot of people, and you were playing at
- 18:04Speaker 1: high school gyms and proms and any kind of gig
- 18:07Speaker 1: you could find, weren't you.
- 18:10Speaker 11: Yeah, I think that's most of the story of most
- 18:12Speaker 11: bands as they start. You just take what you can
- 18:15Speaker 11: get and practice your craft and get better and start
- 18:19Speaker 11: to write your own songs, and eventually things either happen
- 18:23Speaker 11: or they don't. You know, we were enormously fortunate to
- 18:27Speaker 11: have made a living forty eight years doing this.
- 18:31Speaker 1: What did it mean when the sons of the Pioneers
- 18:34Speaker 1: gave your band a stamp of approval?
- 18:37Speaker 11: Oh, it meant the world. Bob Nolan wrote the liner
- 18:41Speaker 11: notes for our first album, and it gave us such legitimacy.
- 18:45Speaker 11: It's not it was showing people these weren't just goofballs
- 18:50Speaker 11: booing around and trying to be funny, that they were
- 18:53Speaker 11: playing the music and playing it right. And you couldn't
- 18:56Speaker 11: get away with the comedy if you weren't seriously good
- 19:00Speaker 11: the music, because then it would be like a like
- 19:04Speaker 11: a college frank you know. Yeah, But it wasn't that.
- 19:07Speaker 11: The music was very meaningful to us and it's been
- 19:11Speaker 11: a joy to be able to write music in that
- 19:13Speaker 11: style for years. Yeah, well over one hundred published songs,
- 19:20Speaker 11: recorded songs.
- 19:21Speaker 1: It's it's obvious that people like the music. It's more
- 19:27Speaker 1: obvious that they liked you guys. The comedy kind of
- 19:31Speaker 1: flowed naturally when y'all got on the stage, did it not?
- 19:35Speaker 12: It did?
- 19:36Speaker 11: Yeah, we all thought we were pretty funny. Turns out
- 19:40Speaker 11: only one of us is funny.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Not everybody can yodel. How did you learn now?
- 19:48Speaker 13: Well?
- 19:49Speaker 11: You know, I don't remember. It seems funny to say,
- 19:52Speaker 11: but once I found I could do it, I just
- 19:56Speaker 11: practiced it and it got better. I drove around with
- 20:02Speaker 11: the windows rolled up. What I didn't want to lose
- 20:07Speaker 11: my wife and neighbors and pats.
- 20:09Speaker 1: What did it?
- 20:09Speaker 3: What did it mean?
- 20:11Speaker 1: When you went on Ralph Emery's radio show in Nashville?
- 20:17Speaker 14: Well, you know that was.
- 20:20Speaker 11: One of the steps that any young artist took to
- 20:24Speaker 11: try to get well known. I mean they're still doing
- 20:27Speaker 11: it today. Of course, Ralph is no longer with us, Right,
- 20:30Speaker 11: people be on the air with WSM personalities and as
- 20:36Speaker 11: serious ExM personalities and whatever.
- 20:39Speaker 1: What this this the serious show that you've been You've
- 20:43Speaker 1: been taping that for quite a while.
- 20:47Speaker 11: Yeah, I just finished programming show number six hundred.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Wow, When did you know that was a hit?
- 20:55Speaker 15: When?
- 20:55Speaker 1: When did people start coming up to you and go, man,
- 20:58Speaker 1: I love this show pretty immediately.
- 21:01Speaker 11: You know, it took it. It took a little while
- 21:03Speaker 11: for people to find it. But not not a performance
- 21:06Speaker 11: goes by that somebody just comment on it or say
- 21:11Speaker 11: we should play this artist more, or play more scratchy
- 21:15Speaker 11: old timers or whatever. Should we tell them when the
- 21:18Speaker 11: when the thing is on?
- 21:19Speaker 13: Uh?
- 21:20Speaker 1: Absolutely please do. I mean it's it's repeated several times.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I listen on Sunday morning before church. But but tell
- 21:27Speaker 1: people when they can find it.
- 21:30Speaker 11: Well, it's called Classic Cowboy Corral and it's on after
- 21:33Speaker 11: the Grand Ole Opry on Willie's Roadhouse on Friday night,
- 21:37Speaker 11: and then before the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night,
- 21:41Speaker 11: same show, yep, and then repeat it once again Sunday morning.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I love the Old Time disc of the day.
- 21:50Speaker 11: Yeah, there's some weird stuff.
- 21:51Speaker 1: It's some weird stuff, but but I will tell you
- 21:55Speaker 1: I love it more than my wife does. But I
- 21:57Speaker 1: love it nonetheless.
- 22:01Speaker 11: I was especially so happy to get run across those
- 22:04Speaker 11: Edison cylinders from nineteen oh five and six and seven.
- 22:08Speaker 11: And no, that's old time.
- 22:10Speaker 1: That is old time. That goes back a little ways.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I talked about being on Ralph Emery. Then you guys
- 22:17Speaker 1: got on Austin City Limits I think about nineteen eighty eighty.
- 22:20Speaker 11: One, did you not, Yes, that was that was the
- 22:24Speaker 11: real great break that we got the first of three
- 22:29Speaker 11: to get on there. Andy suddenly have national attention and
- 22:32Speaker 11: we were able to get a booking agent and a
- 22:35Speaker 11: manager and a real career started.
- 22:38Speaker 9: Then.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I love the way you put it, a real career
- 22:43Speaker 1: in other words, you started getting paid for playing.
- 22:46Speaker 11: Music, right. Well, we you know, we made a scant
- 22:51Speaker 11: living through seventy eight seventy nine eighty, but we started
- 22:56Speaker 11: recording then too, when we recorded for Rounder and Team
- 23:00Speaker 11: seventy nine.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Toy Story two.
- 23:05Speaker 11: Yeah, that was the third great break exactly. That was huge.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I mean you got in with the bowse.
- 23:13Speaker 11: Yeah, we did. It was it man. It's still we
- 23:17Speaker 11: still get checks and people still every time we mentioned
- 23:22Speaker 11: it on the Grand Ole Opera or play the Little
- 23:24Speaker 11: Medley we do, the whole audience just goes, oh.
- 23:30Speaker 1: I've heard that. Yeah, I mean you got involved with
- 23:34Speaker 1: them and that and that was a gift that that really,
- 23:37Speaker 1: as you mentioned, it's still giving.
- 23:39Speaker 9: Is it not? It is?
- 23:40Speaker 11: Indeed? Yeah, what is round up? The occasional checks are
- 23:46Speaker 11: awfully nice.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly. Everybody needs mail box money. Right when
- 23:53Speaker 1: you were asked to do that, I know you knew
- 23:57Speaker 1: it was a big deal. Did did you realize how
- 23:59Speaker 1: big a deal it it ended up being?
- 24:02Speaker 11: No, not really. Originally it was just going to be
- 24:06Speaker 11: released to video. It wasn't going to be theatrically released.
- 24:10Speaker 11: But then they realized what a wonderful movie they had
- 24:13Speaker 11: in their hands, and it just exploded. It's my favorite
- 24:19Speaker 11: of the series, which is.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Hard to believe, because Toy Story was a big deal. Right,
- 24:26Speaker 1: I didn't know they weren't going to put that in
- 24:28Speaker 1: the theater. That's crazy.
- 24:30Speaker 11: Yeah, isn't that something?
- 24:31Speaker 1: Yeah, but there's not a lot of brilliant people out
- 24:35Speaker 1: out in Hollywood.
- 24:36Speaker 11: You already knew that, right, Yes, indeed.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I mean you guys. You guys have Grammys. You would
- 24:45Speaker 1: an Oscar, you would Emmy's. You need a Tony, you
- 24:50Speaker 1: need an egot, I guess.
- 24:53Speaker 11: So it's been a great ride. It really has eight
- 24:58Speaker 11: twenty some shows, two thousand, three hundred and almost almost
- 25:03Speaker 11: two thousand, three hundred Grand Ole Opery appearances. It's just
- 25:07Speaker 11: been wonderful.
- 25:08Speaker 1: What did what did that mean? When you guys were
- 25:11Speaker 1: asked to be members of the Grand Ole Opera. You
- 25:13Speaker 1: went by the way I saw you at the Ribad
- 25:15Speaker 1: several years ago.
- 25:17Speaker 11: Oh yeah, well, of course it was a dream come true.
- 25:22Speaker 11: As soon as we started this group, that was one
- 25:24Speaker 11: of our goals. We definitely wanted to be a part
- 25:28Speaker 11: of that because we'd grown up admiring it, and you know,
- 25:32Speaker 11: to us that was that was the pinnacle exactly.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you you moved you, You ended up
- 25:40Speaker 1: I believe, getting a master's at Vanderbilt because Vanderbilt was
- 25:44Speaker 1: in Nashville. Am I right about that?
- 25:46Speaker 11: Well, you're quite right. You must have read the book
- 25:48Speaker 11: I did. I talked to my dad and sending me
- 25:50Speaker 11: to graduate school, and I picked Vanderbilt so I could
- 25:55Speaker 11: play music all day.
- 25:58Speaker 1: You guys are called the most edge catered musical group
- 26:01Speaker 1: in the world. Tell our tell our listeners about that.
- 26:06Speaker 1: You guys all have not only college but post college degrees.
- 26:10Speaker 11: Well, what, he's the one with the PhD from MIT,
- 26:15Speaker 11: so that I know it's hard to believe. He can't
- 26:19Speaker 11: tell you how he can explain how the sun works,
- 26:21Speaker 11: but you can't tell you a day of the week
- 26:23Speaker 11: you do.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Which is the other thing for guys that have spent
- 26:29Speaker 1: almost fifty years together in all kinds of circumstances. Right
- 26:35Speaker 1: in my mind, the fact that you're still and I
- 26:38Speaker 1: guess you are still talking to one another, right, It's
- 26:41Speaker 1: pretty amazing how.
- 26:43Speaker 11: Many bands have broken up. You know, you just had
- 26:47Speaker 11: to put your ego in the backseat and work for
- 26:52Speaker 11: the team. And we believe in the music and we
- 26:55Speaker 11: believe in each other, and that that just keept this going. Yeah,
- 26:59Speaker 11: we've had our arguments and the flare ups and almost
- 27:03Speaker 11: quit a couple of times, but you know, you get
- 27:06Speaker 11: over that stuff and we just we still think we're
- 27:10Speaker 11: providing a quality entertainment and loving what we do, and
- 27:14Speaker 11: we're still creating and I'm still writing.
- 27:16Speaker 9: Yep.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Tell our listeners what kind of show to what kind
- 27:21Speaker 1: of shows to expect next Wednesday and Thursday night.
- 27:25Speaker 11: Well, we often said it's like the Sons of the
- 27:28Speaker 11: Pioneers meet Maddy Python. It's just there's just a whole
- 27:34Speaker 11: lot of comedy in there. It's some of it's pretty goofy,
- 27:37Speaker 11: but it's not like hillbilly comedy, right, And and then
- 27:44Speaker 11: we intersperse that with the instrumentals and of course the
- 27:47Speaker 11: beautiful music of the West. People always want to hear
- 27:51Speaker 11: the classics like Writers in the Sky and Tumbling Tumbleweeds. Yep,
- 27:55Speaker 11: we intersperse those with the songs that we've written or
- 27:59Speaker 11: old timers that we've discovered that we kind of bring
- 28:01Speaker 11: him back to life. And it's and you know, there'll
- 28:04Speaker 11: be sentimental songs, and there'll be philly songs and up
- 28:09Speaker 11: tempo songs, and you know, it's just very very great variety.
- 28:14Speaker 11: But it's entertaining.
- 28:15Speaker 1: It introduced. If you don't mind our audience to the
- 28:19Speaker 1: other three guys that'll be on stage.
- 28:21Speaker 11: With you, I would love to too. Slim is my
- 28:26Speaker 11: partner and we started the group together. And aside, Meat
- 28:31Speaker 11: will make an appearance. Yeah, he cooks for most of
- 28:34Speaker 11: the show. He's in the back, but he comes out
- 28:36Speaker 11: and makes an appearance, sings a song and usually recites
- 28:40Speaker 11: a poem. And then Joey the Kalpolka King. He's a
- 28:46Speaker 11: new kid. He's only been with us thirty eight years.
- 28:49Speaker 11: He plays the accordion and we'll have Justin Brandham playing fiddle. Okay,
- 28:58Speaker 11: Woody Paul is not able to travel anymore. Okay, age
- 29:03Speaker 11: is catching up with him, as it is with all
- 29:05Speaker 11: of us, and so he does the operay with us still,
- 29:09Speaker 11: but he can't go on the road anymore.
- 29:10Speaker 4: But you'll love Justin.
- 29:11Speaker 11: He plays with me in the Time Jumpers group too
- 29:13Speaker 11: nice and a brilliant, brilliant musician and a great guy.
- 29:17Speaker 11: And he played with the sons of the Pioneers, so
- 29:20Speaker 11: he knows the book.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Joey produces the classic Cowboy Corral, does he not?
- 29:27Speaker 9: Yes?
- 29:27Speaker 11: And he's won two Grammys' Producer and he produced a
- 29:31Speaker 11: Grammy awarding album for Frank Yankovic of all things, the
- 29:35Speaker 11: Polka King.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I can't tell you how disappointed I was to learn
- 29:39Speaker 1: that the show is recorded in Cleveland.
- 29:45Speaker 11: Well, if you want to know the story behind that,
- 29:47Speaker 11: it's this, Joey made a deal with his wife, who
- 29:50Speaker 11: is from Cleveland, and it was if she would come
- 29:53Speaker 11: to Nashville and be a nurse and support his career.
- 29:57Speaker 11: When she retired, they'd go back to her home. So
- 30:01Speaker 11: we build a beautiful house of the studio and we
- 30:05Speaker 11: fly up there once every couple of months and do
- 30:07Speaker 11: thirteen shows.
- 30:08Speaker 6: Nice.
- 30:10Speaker 1: The book is called Writers in the Sky, Romancing the
- 30:14Speaker 1: West with Music and Humor. It is through Texas A

- 30:27Speaker 1: the original date. They had to add a second date

- 31:13Speaker 1: so much, Doug.

- 32:52Speaker 15: the courier group opustickets dot org.
- 32:56Speaker 19: You know, every time we do one of the CJ
- 32:58Speaker 19: Barbecue commercials, they toss to come up with something clever,
- 33:01Speaker 19: but honestly, I never know what to say.
- 33:03Speaker 3: How about we're seeing J Barbecue. We make barbecue. It's good.
- 33:07Speaker 3: People like it. That's why we've been here smoking meats
- 33:10Speaker 3: and phil and bellies since the eighties.
- 33:12Speaker 19: Well, I guess that sums it up.
- 33:14Speaker 3: So if you're hungry, come see us. If you need
- 33:16Speaker 3: more convincing, well maybe you just don't like happiness.
- 33:19Speaker 19: Either way, we'll be here smoking meat like we always do,
- 33:22Speaker 19: serving up happiness on a tray.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Seeing J Barbecue, Let's eat.
- 33:30Speaker 20: In the high school report, I'm that ladies they were
- 33:32Speaker 20: going out to there's phone line to visit with head
- 33:34Speaker 20: coach of the Allen Academy Rams, Alex Simpson.
- 33:37Speaker 21: How are you doing today, Matt?
- 33:38Speaker 13: I'm doing well. How are you doing today, man.
- 33:40Speaker 20: I'm doing great. Thank you so much for asking. For
- 33:43Speaker 20: those who aren't familiar with six man football, just give
- 33:46Speaker 20: me a rundown. What are the differences between six man
- 33:48Speaker 20: and eleven man football? And why should area football fans
- 33:51Speaker 20: come watch some area six man football.
- 33:54Speaker 13: Yeah, so six man football eleven man is always the question.
- 33:57Speaker 13: You know, people ask me when they hear you play
- 34:00Speaker 13: six man. No, it's not seven on seven or anything
- 34:03Speaker 13: like that. It is a eleven man game.
- 34:05Speaker 12: Essentially.
- 34:05Speaker 13: That is a lot faster, it's quicker, it's more high scoring.
- 34:10Speaker 13: Everybody is eligible as a receiver, and there's a lot
- 34:13Speaker 13: of space and so high scoring games, a lot of action,
- 34:16Speaker 13: and it's just it's a fun thing you need to watch.
- 34:19Speaker 13: And every person that's come out and watched it, that's
- 34:21Speaker 13: so in love with the game. And I just say
- 34:23Speaker 13: that if you're if you love football, then I promise
- 34:25Speaker 13: you're gonna love six man so.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 34:29Speaker 20: And how do you think that dynamic changes the strategy
- 34:32Speaker 20: of football in general?
- 34:34Speaker 3: Like what are the.
- 34:35Speaker 12: Differences between two?
- 34:36Speaker 13: Absolutely, because you know, coming from eleven man, you know,
- 34:39Speaker 13: playing eleven man eleven man all pretty much all my
- 34:41Speaker 13: life until I came here at Allen Academy, you know,
- 34:44Speaker 13: four or five years ago. Was I think the biggest
- 34:47Speaker 13: thing is just utilizing your athletes in every way possible,
- 34:49Speaker 13: and you know, just getting everybody to the best of
- 34:52Speaker 13: the ability. I mean, you do that in leve Man,
- 34:53Speaker 13: but in you know, in six you know your center.
- 34:56Speaker 13: It could be one of your best athletes and he's
- 34:58Speaker 13: one of your top receivers in eleven man. That that's
- 35:01Speaker 13: not a thing.
- 35:02Speaker 20: So it's just.
- 35:02Speaker 13: Strategizing how you you certain positions, maybe a little bit
- 35:06Speaker 13: differently than eleven man.
- 35:07Speaker 12: That's cool.
- 35:08Speaker 20: Coach, this is your fifth season in the program, but
- 35:10Speaker 20: first as head coach. What has been your biggest surprise
- 35:12Speaker 20: about the transition.
- 35:14Speaker 13: The biggest surprise, I don't really have. I think it's
- 35:21Speaker 13: just more so just how well the guys adjusted to
- 35:23Speaker 13: me be in the head. I was kind of expecting
- 35:26Speaker 13: a hiccup or something like that, and it was there
- 35:30Speaker 13: wasn't anything like that. It was they took me on.
- 35:33Speaker 13: I mean, I've known these guys for a long time,
- 35:36Speaker 13: but I think they loved where we're heading. I think
- 35:38Speaker 13: they love the vision and I think they love the
- 35:40Speaker 13: standard that we have and I'm excited to keep leading
- 35:42Speaker 13: these guys in the right direction. M hm.
- 35:44Speaker 20: And what would you say your style of coaching and
- 35:45Speaker 20: philosophy can be best described as are you like a
- 35:48Speaker 20: defensive heavy coach and offense heavy or would you say
- 35:51Speaker 20: you're pretty balanced and how does that show up on
- 35:53Speaker 20: the field.
- 35:55Speaker 13: So for me, I feel like I'm a little balanced.
- 35:57Speaker 13: I was the DC last year, so I to guide
- 36:00Speaker 13: our DC now, help him grow in his aspects and
- 36:03Speaker 13: what he's trying to do. But I mean, I call
- 36:05Speaker 13: the offense, So I think that for me, that just
- 36:08Speaker 13: kind of helps me call the offense being on the
- 36:10Speaker 13: other side of the football, seeing how that looks, seeing
- 36:12Speaker 13: how that evaluates, and just more so think of what
- 36:15Speaker 13: is the DC thinking in this time. And I think
- 36:18Speaker 13: that's helped me be a better office coordinator. And I
- 36:20Speaker 13: had football coach and then also special teams. Man, we're
- 36:23Speaker 13: big on that, trying to capitalize on any opportunity we can.
- 36:26Speaker 13: And I think that even the offensive defense side, that's
- 36:29Speaker 13: helped me to help with special teams as well.
- 36:31Speaker 11: And we got a great coordinator doing that as well.
- 36:33Speaker 9: Right.
- 36:34Speaker 20: Could you had a rough opening game against Founders Christian
- 36:36Speaker 20: last Friday. What were you able to take from that
- 36:38Speaker 20: first game to build on for the next week and
- 36:40Speaker 20: the rest of the season.
- 36:42Speaker 13: Uh, the biggest thing is, you know, one game is
- 36:45Speaker 13: one game. That definitely the biggest thing I would tell
- 36:48Speaker 13: everybody is our first game does not define us. We're
- 36:51Speaker 13: talking about all week. We took a lot of little notes.
- 36:54Speaker 13: There's a lot of small mistakes that we were making
- 36:57Speaker 13: and we're going to get it fixed. And the biggest
- 36:59Speaker 13: thing is we don't let one game definance that is
- 37:02Speaker 13: probably we're going to have. Our worst game was our
- 37:05Speaker 13: first game, and that's hard. But my guys are hungry
- 37:08Speaker 13: and they're excited to go out and we do and
- 37:10Speaker 13: prove it too. While would play Westbury right and.
- 37:13Speaker 20: Despite the outcome, were there any stand up performances last Friday?
- 37:16Speaker 20: Perhaps some veterans are underclassmen that you believe set the
- 37:18Speaker 20: tone for your season.
- 37:20Speaker 13: I think we got some guys that are doing some jobs.
- 37:22Speaker 13: I think Logan president of the job. I think he
- 37:25Speaker 13: did his job. I want to challenge him to be
- 37:27Speaker 13: a more of a leader and he knows that and
- 37:29Speaker 13: I think he accepted the challenges. And Brockfield, I think
- 37:32Speaker 13: those two they didn't have their top notch games, but
- 37:35Speaker 13: they know they're getting better. Even in Hudson, Mary, you're
- 37:38Speaker 13: seeing those guys come out of their shell a little
- 37:41Speaker 13: bit more. And I just the biggest thing I told them,
- 37:43Speaker 13: even in hard times like that, that's the hardest time
- 37:45Speaker 13: to be a leader, and I feel like they're starting
- 37:47Speaker 13: to understand how to sit in their role as captains
- 37:49Speaker 13: and leaders, and I look forward to helping guide them
- 37:52Speaker 13: and do everything I can to help them out right.
- 37:55Speaker 20: And heading into this Friday's matchup against Westbury Christian, what
- 37:58Speaker 20: are the key points of infants just in practice this week.
- 38:02Speaker 13: Details, details, detail, I think that's the biggest thing for
- 38:04Speaker 13: us right now. We're Westbury's a very tight, heavy running team,
- 38:09Speaker 13: so just really working on the pools and doing everything
- 38:11Speaker 13: we can to make sure that we get it right.
- 38:13Speaker 13: And then on offense, trying to just utilize everything we can,
- 38:17Speaker 13: you know, maybe move some guys around, maybe do a
- 38:19Speaker 13: couple of different things, not because our offense is bad,
- 38:22Speaker 13: but just trying to mix it up so when people
- 38:24Speaker 13: play us, they don't have an idea of everything we're
- 38:26Speaker 13: trying to do. So and that's pretty much. And just
- 38:28Speaker 13: clean it up on special teams. I think that's execue.
- 38:31Speaker 13: We call a set operations for a reason. It's an
- 38:34Speaker 13: operation that we want to get done and just trying
- 38:36Speaker 13: to make sure we clean it up. That's it.
- 38:38Speaker 20: And what do you think are going to be your
- 38:39Speaker 20: biggest strengths facing Westbury Christian this Friday, And how does
- 38:43Speaker 20: their play style clash with your team's play style.
- 38:46Speaker 13: I think if you start on the defensive side, I
- 38:48Speaker 13: think they run the ball. I think that's something we
- 38:50Speaker 13: can match up really well too, because we've got some
- 38:52Speaker 13: guys that defend the well really well. I think We've
- 38:54Speaker 13: got some D linemen and some strategy that I felt
- 38:57Speaker 13: it could really help us do that. And then on
- 38:59Speaker 13: the offense side, I feel like the way they play
- 39:01Speaker 13: defense kind of helps us out on the offensive side,
- 39:03Speaker 13: and how they run their two four and how they
- 39:06Speaker 13: shift and how they roll will help us get plays
- 39:09Speaker 13: and hopefully bigger plays out of stuff. So I think
- 39:12Speaker 13: it's a great matchup. I think Westbury I got a
- 39:14Speaker 13: lot of respect for them. I naturally know their coaches,
- 39:17Speaker 13: so they're great guys over there. They do it the
- 39:19Speaker 13: right way, and I'm just I'm looking forward to the matchup.
- 39:22Speaker 20: That's exciting. And if you end up looking back on
- 39:24Speaker 20: your first season as head coach of the Rams as
- 39:26Speaker 20: a success, what players slash positions will have contributed most
- 39:29Speaker 20: to that success?
- 39:30Speaker 9: Do you think?
- 39:32Speaker 13: I mean, it's everybody. I don't think it's just one person.
- 39:34Speaker 13: I don't think it's just one coach. I think it's
- 39:38Speaker 13: from top to bottom. I think it's managers, it's the
- 39:41Speaker 13: guys who don't play as much. It's the star players,
- 39:44Speaker 13: the captains, it's elite, it's everybody. I mean, there's not
- 39:47Speaker 13: for me. There's not one single person that's going to
- 39:49Speaker 13: stick out. And I want to make sure everybody is
- 39:52Speaker 13: helping us roll into this new standard, new phase, new everything.
- 39:57Speaker 13: And I'm I appreciate everybody on the roster because I
- 39:59Speaker 13: feel like everybody's into what we're doing. And I think
- 40:02Speaker 13: that just makes for me as a coach. That makes
- 40:04Speaker 13: that exciting because I want to do more with them
- 40:07Speaker 13: and keep growing them and everything I can, right.
- 40:09Speaker 20: Of course, And I guess lastly, how would you describe
- 40:13Speaker 20: success as your first season as the head coach for
- 40:16Speaker 20: the Rams, not just in terms of on the field,
- 40:19Speaker 20: but also off the field with player development, culture, community engagement,
- 40:24Speaker 20: things like that.
- 40:25Speaker 13: I think it's setting a foundation of what people you
- 40:28Speaker 13: know us here at an academy have. I think our
- 40:32Speaker 13: football program is heading in the right direction. I feel
- 40:35Speaker 13: like the foundation is being laid. I'm also coaching our
- 40:38Speaker 13: middle school as well. I'm trying to make sure every
- 40:40Speaker 13: part of our foundation is set for years to come
- 40:44Speaker 13: so we can look back and be like, yeah, So
- 40:46Speaker 13: if you ask me what is my thing, It's a
- 40:47Speaker 13: foundation in relationship with my people. I want to make
- 40:50Speaker 13: sure people know that I'm here for them, and my
- 40:52Speaker 13: players know I'm here for them, and we just grow
- 40:55Speaker 13: and build that program. I think it's in a good spot.
- 40:58Speaker 13: I want to take it to the next level. And
- 41:00Speaker 13: so for me, you would talk about success is building
- 41:04Speaker 13: from a huge, great foundation and continue to build on
- 41:07Speaker 13: everything we got.
- 41:09Speaker 20: Wow, beautifully put well, thank you so much for your time.
- 41:15Speaker 13: That sounds good, Matt. I appreciate you man for giving
- 41:17Speaker 13: me a call. I think it's very cool what you
- 41:18Speaker 13: do these interviews and stuff.
- 41:20Speaker 20: Thank you, sir, Thank you. We're excited to see you
- 41:22Speaker 20: on the field.
- 41:23Speaker 13: Absolutely all right, Matt. You have a good one, O
- 41:25Speaker 13: greb thank you you too, all right, Bob.

- 44:33Speaker 4: four in the eighth, but Houston up eight to four,
- 44:36Speaker 4: but the Yankees came storming back in the ninth, scoring

- 44:58Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a big win and our offense quiet a
- 45:02Speaker 5: little bit early.
- 45:03Speaker 12: Warren was throwing the.
- 45:04Speaker 13: Ball really really well, sinker the four seam and then
- 45:07Speaker 13: Jeremy had the home run.
- 45:08Speaker 5: I felt like that woke our lineup up.

- 46:45Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to that show, and again my thanks
- 46:48Speaker 1: to Ranger Doug Saturday Morning eleven forty five A and
- 46:55Speaker 1: m Utah State the Aggies versus the Aggies. We're gonna
- 46:58Speaker 1: have Aggie on Aggie Crime coming up at Kyle Field
- 47:01Speaker 1: on Saturday. Here's defensive backfield and he was really good
- 47:09Speaker 1: by the way this last week. Here's Marcus Ratcliffe.
- 47:12Speaker 16: Hey, Marcus, how predictable do you think that performance from
- 47:17Speaker 16: the secondary was the other night? Because you haven't got
- 47:19Speaker 16: handsome issues last Yeah year, and I think they believe
- 47:23Speaker 16: that have a twenty yard completion until last pass.
- 47:26Speaker 24: Yeah, I think I think we wanted to clean up
- 47:28Speaker 24: our communication and our pass defense for sure. That's something
- 47:31Speaker 24: we've been hammering in the entire offseason. And I thought
- 47:34Speaker 24: we did a good job of clean up the communication,
- 47:36Speaker 24: being like super demonstrative at safeties, getting the call to
- 47:40Speaker 24: the corners. But I mean, I think there's levels to it,
- 47:43Speaker 24: and there's always another level we can take for next
- 47:45Speaker 24: week and the week after that.
- 47:46Speaker 16: How much of progress do you feel like you've made personally?
- 47:49Speaker 24: I think I've made progress from last year. I think
- 47:52Speaker 24: my second year being SEC, I feel a lot more comfortable.
- 47:54Speaker 24: I feel like I'm playing faster than my reads are faster.
- 47:56Speaker 24: But like I said, I even for myself, like there's
- 47:58Speaker 24: there's levels I can get to with my tw my
- 48:01Speaker 24: pursuits of the ball leverage, like because a levels to it.
- 48:04Speaker 16: And you were very productive in that game. I think
- 48:06Speaker 16: it was seven tackles, two pass is broken up. You know,
- 48:11Speaker 16: just was there first of all? Was there a play
- 48:13Speaker 16: that you made that kind of stood out to you?
- 48:15Speaker 16: And is that all you should expect from you?
- 48:17Speaker 12: Yeah?
- 48:19Speaker 24: Yeah, I definitely want to be a productive player, consistent.
- 48:22Speaker 24: That's always the goal for anyone and for me the
- 48:25Speaker 24: players that I was the almost interception, I got to
- 48:27Speaker 24: catch that and uh I should have made that play.
- 48:29Speaker 16: Yeah, because you've had a bunch of interceptions.
- 48:31Speaker 12: Last Yeah, yeah, I got hand I got to make
- 48:33Speaker 12: that play. I gotta make that play.
- 48:36Speaker 9: What do you see it from yusas state as you
- 48:38Speaker 9: guys started to scout them and get ready.
- 48:40Speaker 12: For this one. Yeah, they're a good team.
- 48:41Speaker 24: Uh, they use they do a lot formational wise, they
- 48:44Speaker 24: do a lot of shifts trades. Uh, they'll run some
- 48:47Speaker 24: two back, three back, and so that's something we have
- 48:49Speaker 24: to prepare for. I think communication this week is gonna
- 48:51Speaker 24: be at a premium even more compared to last week,
- 48:53Speaker 24: just because of all the shifts and trades they do.
- 48:56Speaker 24: And so that's something today we were really hammering in.
- 48:59Speaker 25: Sure you talked about communication and you can say anything else.
- 49:02Speaker 25: You guys did well that maybe you didn't do as
- 49:05Speaker 25: well last year connect game.
- 49:07Speaker 12: That's a good question.
- 49:10Speaker 24: I think our past defense past evens improved a lot.
- 49:13Speaker 24: I think our corners did a really good job of
- 49:14Speaker 24: shutting down the receivers. Like you mentioned, they didn't really
- 49:18Speaker 24: complete any long passes like that against us, and I
- 49:20Speaker 24: think that that'll be a trend moving forward.
- 49:22Speaker 25: What needs improve When you guys looked at the film,
- 49:25Speaker 25: what points did you say, Hey, we need to get
- 49:26Speaker 25: better at.
- 49:27Speaker 12: I think tackling overall is a defense. We can all
- 49:29Speaker 12: be better tackling.
- 49:30Speaker 9: For sure.
- 49:30Speaker 12: There's runs that should not have spit out. There were
- 49:33Speaker 12: some misfits where there's just no guys in the right hole,
- 49:38Speaker 12: and we definitely got to clean that up. That wasn't
- 49:41Speaker 12: you though, were you're in the right place all the time,
- 49:43Speaker 12: not all the time. I can improve too.
- 49:45Speaker 16: What do you think getting go and grips back maybe
- 49:47Speaker 16: help the guys.
- 49:48Speaker 12: Yeah, he's a great safety.
- 49:49Speaker 24: Eat me, Bryce him, Miles, our whole entire safety room,
- 49:54Speaker 24: we pride ourselves and just working hard every single day,
- 49:57Speaker 24: and so having a lot of depth in the safety
- 49:58Speaker 24: room helps us all marks.
- 50:00Speaker 16: There's something different physically reviewed from last year, and if so,
- 50:04Speaker 16: how has.
- 50:04Speaker 3: That changed you maybe mentally on the field?
- 50:06Speaker 9: Uh?
- 50:06Speaker 24: Yeah, I think I think getting stronger and faster and
- 50:09Speaker 24: really getting rid of like the lower body injuries I
- 50:11Speaker 24: was dealing with last year has helped me just to
- 50:13Speaker 24: play super fast, more aggressive, not so like hesitant, And
- 50:18Speaker 24: so I think mentally that really just allows me to
- 50:20Speaker 24: play fast.
- 50:20Speaker 13: Another dynamic running back this week of Miles Davis, What
- 50:23Speaker 13: can you guys do to kind of sure if some
- 50:24Speaker 13: of the.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Things that happened last week in the run game?
- 50:27Speaker 12: Could you repeat the question?
- 50:28Speaker 18: So?
- 50:28Speaker 1: So, another dynamic running back this week of Miles Davis.
- 50:30Speaker 13: How do you shure up to make sure he doesn't
- 50:32Speaker 13: have the same type of impact that you know Robert
- 50:33Speaker 13: Henry was able to have last week?
- 50:35Speaker 24: Yeah, I think I think that started to start yesterday.
- 50:37Speaker 24: Really in practice and in scout versus are good on
- 50:40Speaker 24: good finishing on our running backs the right way, getting
- 50:42Speaker 24: our footwork right, making sure they're wrapping up being strong
- 50:45Speaker 24: in our wraps and if we do all that, then
- 50:47Speaker 24: we'll completely be fun.
- 50:49Speaker 7: On Casey's punt return and rembers.
- 50:53Speaker 24: Yeah, yeah, that was insane. I was like, I was like, Wow,
- 50:56Speaker 24: there's no way he's taking this back.
- 50:58Speaker 12: And then he took it back. So he's a crazy,
- 51:00Speaker 12: crazy good athlete. Okay, Mark as.
- 51:02Speaker 16: Well said, I have time that lad.
- 51:03Speaker 1: You guys for six months in a row.
- 51:06Speaker 12: Did Delpe come make any any specific Uh?
- 51:10Speaker 24: Yeah, I think we changed a little bit scheme wise.
- 51:12Speaker 24: We tweaked the little things scheme wise. Like I said,
- 51:15Speaker 24: I think the big runs were really just misfits by
- 51:18Speaker 24: a couple of players. And if when we clean those
- 51:20Speaker 24: misfits up, we completely stopped and they the play they
- 51:23Speaker 24: spin on, they ran that same play against the same
- 51:26Speaker 24: defensive coverage and we've stopped it for negative too in
- 51:28Speaker 24: the second.
- 51:29Speaker 12: Half, and so yeah, it was just it was just misfits.
- 51:32Speaker 9: Really.
- 51:32Speaker 16: You've got some experience in the mountain less, right, Yeah? Yeah,
- 51:36Speaker 16: So what do you you know, what should you tell
- 51:39Speaker 16: your guys if you were had the conversation about what
- 51:41Speaker 16: to expect from these guys from you know, they come
- 51:44Speaker 16: from that conflict.
- 51:44Speaker 24: I mean, they played tough for sure, they're gonna play
- 51:46Speaker 24: with the ship on their shoulder.
- 51:48Speaker 18: I know what.
- 51:48Speaker 24: Every one of those players is thinking. They think they
- 51:50Speaker 24: should be at this level, and so they're gonna play
- 51:52Speaker 24: hard and they're gonna play on especially because they're playing
- 51:55Speaker 24: against us. This is their shot to prove they should
- 51:57Speaker 24: be at this level. So it's no, it's no like
- 52:00Speaker 24: that down game. We can't go in there thinking we're
- 52:02Speaker 24: just gonna give us something.
- 52:03Speaker 12: So we definitely have to play harder than they do.
- 52:05Speaker 12: Did you did you face?
- 52:07Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 52:07Speaker 12: I did my freshman year.
- 52:08Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 52:09Speaker 12: What do you remember about that game that he had
- 52:11Speaker 12: against I think I think it went to like triple overtime.
- 52:14Speaker 24: They barely beat us last overtime. Yeah, but it was
- 52:16Speaker 24: it was a good game. They play hard.
- 52:17Speaker 25: So you had to go against Craver a lot in
- 52:20Speaker 25: fall camp, which makes him so good able to make
- 52:23Speaker 25: those plays he made, I think.
- 52:26Speaker 24: Coach, I think, uh, I mean, I know, you guys
- 52:29Speaker 24: have seen. He's insanely shifty, he can move incredibly well
- 52:32Speaker 24: laterally and vertically, super fast, super smart player, he knows football.
- 52:38Speaker 12: And he's just a dog honestly, like he's a winner.
- 52:44Speaker 4: Some of the older guys just in every single game
- 52:47Speaker 4: seemed like from your first step to your last you
- 52:49Speaker 4: brought so much energy energy.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Do you feel like you went out there just with
- 52:53Speaker 1: a new perspective maybe?
- 52:54Speaker 12: Yeah, honestly, I just went out there and had fun.
- 52:57Speaker 18: Uh.
- 52:57Speaker 24: Like I said, I think in the offseason, I really
- 52:59Speaker 24: really worked hard to get stronger, get faster, and coach
- 53:02Speaker 24: maffin is stat did a great job of developed me
- 53:05Speaker 24: the entire offseason. So when I went out there, I
- 53:07Speaker 24: just went out with full confidence, knowing I've been trying
- 53:09Speaker 24: to do it I need to do.
- 53:10Speaker 17: You mentioned some of the best fits.
- 53:13Speaker 4: What would you say, is there like one or two
- 53:15Speaker 4: reasons why they're happening and how fixable.
- 53:17Speaker 3: Do you think they are?
- 53:19Speaker 24: They're super fixable. I think I think there's a plenty
- 53:22Speaker 24: ful of reasons on why that could happen, either like
- 53:23Speaker 24: fatigue or maybe just forget the call, see the wrong call.
- 53:26Speaker 12: There's there's a lot of reasons on why that could happen.
- 53:29Speaker 12: And yeah, that's an easy fix, super easy fix.
- 53:32Speaker 5: Marshall reed, great game Saurday night, almost three hundred gards
- 53:35Speaker 5: for a touchdowns.
- 53:35Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 53:36Speaker 25: Just what have you seen from just defending his passes
- 53:38Speaker 25: throughout camp?
- 53:39Speaker 24: Yeah, He's an amazing leader and an amazing quarterback. I
- 53:41Speaker 24: believe he's a true dual threat. He can defeat you
- 53:44Speaker 24: passing the ball, and then if he wants to, he
- 53:45Speaker 24: can defeat you running the ball, and so teams definitely
- 53:48Speaker 24: have to worry about both both aspects.
- 53:50Speaker 1: Did you think of the LED lights?
- 53:52Speaker 12: You take them minute too? Maybe watch them at the
- 53:54Speaker 12: start the fourth quarter? Yeah, now, they were sick. They
- 53:56Speaker 12: were sick.
- 53:57Speaker 24: I've never seen LED lights in person. That was my
- 53:59Speaker 24: first time, and oh yeah, that was amazing.
- 54:03Speaker 25: So you're playing in Utah State, is hard not to
- 54:05Speaker 25: think about Notre Day.
- 54:06Speaker 24: Uh No, honestly, not really because Utah Stay is capable
- 54:10Speaker 24: of beating us, and so I.
- 54:11Speaker 12: Don't want to get beat by Utah State, so we
- 54:13Speaker 12: have to think about them. Person.
- 54:14Speaker 1: Yeah that's Marcus Ratcliffe. I hope you enjoyed that. Coming up.
- 54:20Speaker 1: By the way, wild Wall coverage beginning Saturday morning and
- 54:27Speaker 1: then for two hours postgame on Saturday afternoon. The Division
- 54:34Speaker 1: one Administrative Committee has to improve legislative changes. There's a
- 54:42Speaker 1: recommendation undergraduate postgraduate student athletes could enter the transfer portal
- 54:47Speaker 1: between January second and January eleventh, ten day notification of
- 54:54Speaker 1: transfer would replace the current structure where there's twenty days
- 54:58Speaker 1: in December and ten days in April. December will be
- 55:02Speaker 1: a dead recruiting period. January fifth through thirty first is recruiting,
- 55:08Speaker 1: but that doesn't include the coaches convention. The bottom line
- 55:14Speaker 1: is one transfer portal period, not two, and it's nine
- 55:20Speaker 1: days not thirty days of transfer portal, so could be
- 55:25Speaker 1: an upgrade. We'll see how that works out. Brass Valley
