- 0:42different types of apps because I love apps and technology.
- 0:44But if you guys are new to this channel, my name is Dan and this
- 0:47is the apps. We will, but we think
- 0:48differently daily. What's up?
- 0:49Different thinker fam if you haven't already go and download
- 0:53my free PDF autism life hacks book.
- 0:56It will be on the end screen of this video or in a link in the
- 0:58description down below and if you're watching on Instagram, it
- 1:00will be in the link in my bio. Don't forget to go and get it
- 1:03OK, so basically I've done loads of videos on different types of
- 1:06apps for I don't know I've done loads right, but in terms of
- 1:11dyslexia, I haven't really done that many.
- 1:13So I've got my iPhone right here right now, which is the new
- 1:16iPhone that just came out actually.
- 1:18So yeah, this is this is cool. I'm really, I'm really excited.
- 1:21I'm using this new iPhone. It's kind of cool.
- 1:22It's groovy and the cameras are great.
- 1:23But that's beside the point. I actually have a video all
- 1:26about how this iPhone, the latest iPhone is very good for
- 1:29people on the autism spectrum and how this technology can
- 1:31improve the lives of people on the spectrum.
- 1:32So if you're interested in watching that, check out the
- 1:34link in the description. It'll be there for you, right
- 1:37then. So I wanted to talk about some
- 1:40of the tools which I used when I was doing my university degree
- 1:44and helping with my dyslexia. Because let's face it, having
- 1:46dyslexia and going to university or doing school is really
- 1:50difficult, right? And so I've made a list of stuff
- 1:53that I use and stuff that I've just come across that are
- 1:55actually really, really good. So without further ado, into it.
- 1:59OK, so the first thing I'm going to talk about here right now is
- 2:02text dictation software. Now if you're anything like me,
- 2:05then you're going to have problems in trying to write down
- 2:09things and you need help with speech and all that kind of
- 2:13stuff. So what I do is I get my iPhone
- 2:15and I open up a note and then I use the microphone and the
- 2:19little button at the bottom and I can just talk to my phone and
- 2:23it'll actually dictate what I'm talking and write it down in a
- 2:25note format. And also not only that, if we
- 2:30actually go to highlight a word and then you can actually scroll
- 2:34and see speak. Just talk to my phone and
- 2:37actually dictate what I'm talking and write it down in a
- 2:41note for me. The cool thing about this is
- 2:43that you can actually use this when you're in lectures to hold
- 2:46it up to the the air and just hear what your lectures are
- 2:48saying. And it's kind of like they're
- 2:49making notes of you, which is a pretty good hack.
- 2:50And I'm going to probably talk about that in a different video,
- 2:52but that is typically the one of the most used functions on my
- 2:57phone. I actually use it for pretty
- 2:58much everything because the app is native to the iPhone and the
- 3:01iPad. And so if you have these
- 3:03devices, I'm sure it works on Android as well.
- 3:05You're able to just speak freely and then you're able to actually
- 3:08get a really good kind of rock solid digital note of what you
- 3:11want to say. I use it for everything, right?
- 3:13Text messages to emails to even taking notes like you just saw.
- 3:16OK, yes, so #2 is an app I came across called crazy cursive.
- 3:20Now cursive writing is quite difficult because it's kind of
- 3:22like script writing, right? And we all know what kind of
- 3:24what cursive writing is. So check out this little clip of
- 3:27me now. So this is me actually going
- 3:29through crazy cursive, which is the, the app we're using right
- 3:32now to kind of just show you guys how, how it works.
- 3:37So, yeah, you basically make an account on on this actual on
- 3:41this app and then you go through and you can just take a word or
- 3:44a letter. And for instance, if we're just
- 3:46doing a letter, you kind of like it shows you what to do and you
- 3:48just drag your pencil down. And so it shows you how to
- 3:51actually draw the the cursive version of the letter you're
- 3:55using, which is pretty good. And it also says it out loud for
- 3:58you. So you know which, which word it
- 4:00is. But The thing is, it gets you
- 4:01used to that technique. I'm sure this is going to be
- 4:03really, really good on an iPad with the Apple Pencil where
- 4:05you're like, you know, using that kind of cursive or any kind
- 4:08of, you know, good stylus on a tablet will give you that real
- 4:12life feel like you're writing it on paper, which I sound really,
- 4:15really good. This app is called crazy Cursive
- 4:17and this is crazy cursive light. There is a paid version, I
- 4:20believe, but I'll leave all the links for it in the description
- 4:23below so that you guys can get access to all of these apps.
- 4:26You know that I'm talking about in this video, in case you
- 4:28think, Oh, that's a good one. Done, check it out.
- 4:30OK, so the next one I'm going to talk about is writing wizard.
- 4:34Now handwriting is really my handwriting is terrible, right?
- 4:36It's absolutely terrible. I never had any kind of luck
- 4:39doing it. It was always really rubbish
- 4:42really. And and you know, I, I tried and
- 4:43tried and never really worked. But this actual app, as you can
- 4:47see in this video, actually shows you the how to draw the
- 4:52letter. And then it also tells you the
- 4:54letter once you're completely drawing it.
- 4:55It kind of says whatever is this one, you know, if it's A or B or
- 4:58whatever, it will tell you the actual letter.
- 5:00And then you can like play a game by like moving it around
- 5:04and doing cool crazy stuff, which is pretty amazing because
- 5:06it kind of gamifies the whole experience.
- 5:08But it helps you learn the actual, the actual letter and
- 5:13the words whilst actually drawing and writing them out.
- 5:16So you get like more of a defined version of it because it
- 5:18had these lines of like separation of where you actually
- 5:21draw the word, which I found really, really helpful.
- 5:23OK, so the next one I'm going to talk about is Simplex Light.
- 5:26There is a paid version of Simplex, I think, but I'm
- 5:29actually just using the light version, which is just pretty
- 5:31much the best one to do because it's free at the end of the day.
- 5:35So basically you you pick a, you pick this basically pick a word
- 5:42or a letter or what you want to do.
- 5:43And this one is word list 1. So this is like a list of words
- 5:47and it basically says a phrase of what you should use the word
- 5:52for. And it's a 3 letter word and it
- 5:54says like whatever, like, I don't know, like find my way.
- 5:59So you have to do like WAY. And then it just basically gives
- 6:03you a, a score and it tells you if you're doing it perfect or
- 6:06doing it bad, but it kind of helps preempt you.
- 6:08One thing I do like about this app is that it shows you where
- 6:11all the vowels are, which is really, really helpful.
- 6:13But also it tells you the, the word in a sentence.
- 6:16It doesn't just tell you a random word.
- 6:18So it talks really good, it's really good at helping you
- 6:23understand how to talk properly and using the right words and
- 6:25the right sentences, which I found absolutely fantastic.
- 6:28Right now, last one I'm going to talk about #5 here is 1 called
- 6:30Me Books. Now Me Books is a reading app.
- 6:33You basically create an account on this app and as you log in
- 6:35there, you can see there's loads of different types of books in
- 6:37there. And what happens is this app
- 6:39actually helps you with the preset books that have pretty
- 6:42much, you know, a lot of books for kids.
- 6:43And this is mainly an app for kids who are struggling on the,
- 6:47on the reading skills or writing skills with the dyslexia.
- 6:50And basically what it does is the app helps you read the
- 6:54books. It kind of reads with you and
- 6:55reads for you and helps you breakdown the words and the
- 6:58sentences, which is really, really good.
- 7:00And it kind of highlights different words as well.
- 7:01And one of the things I found really interesting about this is
- 7:04that I had nothing this interactive when I was trying to
- 7:06learn to read. And it's just a big stretch and
- 7:08a big struggle when I was growing up.
- 7:09So now having an app like this is amazing.
- 7:12Now there is a free version and a paid version.
- 7:13I highly recommend checking out the free versions.
- 7:15I've linked all of the free versions down below.
- 7:17Some of them you have to create an account with, some of them
- 7:19you don't, but these are the best ones that I found for
- 7:21dyslexia. Now if you think that these are
- 7:23really awesome, please share this video on Facebook and
- 7:26Twitter. If you have anything to add, any
- 7:28other apps that you could suggest, put them in a comment
- 7:29down below because I read every single one.
- 7:31Give this video a thumbs up if you found value.
- 7:32I'll see you in the next one guys, peace.
