- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, welcome to Inside the Data.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I'm inside the Birds.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosher, and of course I am joined by
- 0:16Speaker 1: our data and analytics expert, you know him as Sam Finkel,
- 0:20Speaker 1: who has been doing a great job all season long
- 0:23Speaker 1: putting together the analytics, the data, the metrics for each
- 0:26Speaker 1: game that the Eagles play. And the last time I
- 0:29Speaker 1: spoke to you, Sam, I think I said, you know,
- 0:31Speaker 1: we'll see the next time we do what kind of
- 0:34Speaker 1: stats we have, because the Eagles were on a two
- 0:35Speaker 1: game losing streak, but they won. They obviously beat the
- 0:40Speaker 1: Vikings in a very interesting game twenty eight to twenty two.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And we'll get into the numbers, the charts, the data
- 0:46Speaker 1: inside it in a way that not in a lot
- 0:49Speaker 1: of people get into. So but before that anything, when
- 0:51Speaker 1: you were putting together you know, the information that jumped
- 0:55Speaker 1: out at the page at you in any kind of metrics.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Sure, I mean last time we focused a lot on
- 1:02Speaker 3: third downs and that was like one of the big
- 1:04Speaker 3: insights we had was about what type of third downs
- 1:08Speaker 3: they're facing and whatd it surprise you if I told
- 1:12Speaker 3: you that the Eagles faced one third and short this
- 1:17Speaker 3: entire game?
- 1:19Speaker 2: D Yeah, no, yes, yes, that would surprise me, because.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Would it surprise me even more if I told you
- 1:26Speaker 3: that that resulted in a false start and no longer
- 1:29Speaker 3: was a third and short.
- 1:30Speaker 2: That would not surprise me.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Like the Eagles struggled offensively in the first half to
- 1:37Speaker 1: find a rhythm outside of that backyard touchdown, and then
- 1:41Speaker 1: the deep ball just came alive. But it does to
- 1:44Speaker 1: your point, just like thinking about that, they still didn't
- 1:47Speaker 1: get a running game going, so it doesn't shock me
- 1:49Speaker 1: that they made a lot of hey on third and long.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's that's what we're gonna see. I did
- 1:55Speaker 3: include those statistics again because I think we're going to
- 1:58Speaker 3: keep it a running theme until everyone gets sick of
- 2:00Speaker 3: it or until the Eagles fix it and it's not
- 2:02Speaker 3: a problem anymore. But we'll see which one comes first.
- 2:06Speaker 1: All right, cool, Well, let's get right into the numbers.
- 2:09Speaker 1: And as we started the basic stats. And I love this,
- 2:13Speaker 1: uh the statistic because it's it's crazy and I probably,
- 2:17Speaker 1: if I had more time, would research it. But I
- 2:20Speaker 1: just wonder how many teams after their first seven games
- 2:24Speaker 1: are five and two or better. But it been out
- 2:27Speaker 1: gained in totally yardage in every single game because they
- 2:30Speaker 1: were again.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Yep, it's probably very unlikely. It probably happened very few
- 2:36Speaker 3: and far between times.
- 2:37Speaker 1: For Yeah, yeah, probably, I mean, yeah, it might happen,
- 2:41Speaker 1: but just kind of like that Giants Broncos game was
- 2:43Speaker 1: I think like the first time in like one thousand
- 2:45Speaker 1: and sixty one games that a team blew ay allowed like.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Thirty three points in the fourth quarter or something like that.
- 2:53Speaker 3: But that's not a bad time to face the Giants.
- 2:56Speaker 3: A little demoralized, true, you know, the Eagles are up,
- 2:59Speaker 3: you know, feeling good about their win. So we'll see
- 3:02Speaker 3: what happens in the upcoming team.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 1: So obviously, even though the Eagles were out gained, I mean,
- 3:07Speaker 1: they clearly averaged more yards per play, more yards per
- 3:10Speaker 1: pass by almost stubble on yards per pass.
- 3:14Speaker 3: HM.
- 3:14Speaker 1: That's pretty interesting. But then again not when you think
- 3:17Speaker 1: about all the deep shots that the Eagles hit.
- 3:19Speaker 3: In that shame, it makes a lot more sense. It
- 3:21Speaker 3: comes way more into picture. At that point, they won
- 3:24Speaker 3: the turnover battle, lost the time of possession, which is interesting,
- 3:27Speaker 3: but you got to also think that what factors in
- 3:30Speaker 3: there is the Vikings had more possession because the Eagles
- 3:33Speaker 3: had to pick six. So that does you know, factor
- 3:36Speaker 3: in there, and the Eagles were the last team to
- 3:38Speaker 3: hold the ball at the end of the first half.
- 3:41Speaker 3: And then the average starting field position better by the
- 3:44Speaker 3: Eagles and almost even so you'd love to see that.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Well yeah, I mean, I guess that's kind of crawling
- 3:49Speaker 1: before you walk, right, because it was really the last
- 3:52Speaker 1: pod we did, and we talked about two things that
- 3:55Speaker 1: sort of flew under the word it are. Average starting
- 3:57Speaker 1: field position was terrible in that two game, losing straight
- 4:00Speaker 1: and they lost the turnover. They hadn't created any takeaways
- 4:04Speaker 1: in those two games, and since the Eagles seem hell
- 4:07Speaker 1: bent on playing every game by one score, those turnovers
- 4:11Speaker 1: are really important. And here they but they do better
- 4:14Speaker 1: in field position, right, and then they win the turnover.
- 4:17Speaker 1: They get turnovers. That was the thing about those two losses.
- 4:20Speaker 1: They didn't have any takeaways.
- 4:21Speaker 3: In them, absolutely and that's a big difference maker, as
- 4:24Speaker 3: you can see.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, you're a big stat hound, right, obviously we
- 4:28Speaker 2: do this show. How about this step for you.
- 4:31Speaker 1: The Eagles have I think five or six interceptions now
- 4:34Speaker 1: on the season, and not one single one has come
- 4:37Speaker 1: from a cornerback.
- 4:39Speaker 3: That is interesting. I wonder like how much of that
- 4:44Speaker 3: is just because you know, I mean, I would. My
- 4:46Speaker 3: initial thought was there not targeting Q that much. But
- 4:49Speaker 3: at the same time, I feel like he has been
- 4:51Speaker 3: targeted a decent amount of times. He has interesting but
- 4:54Speaker 3: he did not have an interception until the postseason last
- 4:56Speaker 3: year either.
- 4:57Speaker 2: So that's right, that's right, he did not.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And Makuba just has that weird knack for being around
- 5:03Speaker 1: the ball all the time. So he's got a couple.
- 5:05Speaker 1: But Jalx, if I were Jaylex Hunt, I would absolutely
- 5:08Speaker 1: because he's a I can tell he's a little bit
- 5:10Speaker 1: of a prankster, like he likes to hand it up
- 5:12Speaker 1: with you guys. I would be walking by Q's locker
- 5:16Speaker 1: every single day now and be like, I got to
- 5:19Speaker 1: pick and you don't.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Maybe it'll motivate him get some interceptions. You would think
- 5:26Speaker 3: it'd be so funny if next week next pod, Q
- 5:29Speaker 3: has an interception, that would be perfect, that would.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Be all right.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So situational football always very big and just interesting. Because
- 5:38Speaker 1: we did talk about in our last pod one thing
- 5:41Speaker 1: about the Eagles offense.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Right you brought this out.
- 5:43Speaker 1: You had done the research that the Eagles have faced
- 5:47Speaker 1: third and long almost more than third and short and
- 5:51Speaker 1: third medium combined, I think almost twice as much. Right, Yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and here we go again, Minnesota, go ahead.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Honest with you, I think it got worse. I hard
- 6:02Speaker 3: to believe, so.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Hard to believe.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Yeah, thirty on third down the Vikings were almost forty
- 6:10Speaker 1: seven percent.
- 6:11Speaker 3: And you remember one of those plays was the snap
- 6:14Speaker 3: that went over Wentz's head.
- 6:15Speaker 1: That's right.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I mean they could have even potentially been better. And
- 6:18Speaker 3: I know that's a silly thing to say, because any
- 6:20Speaker 3: play could go that way. But I'm saying is like
- 6:22Speaker 3: a mistake impacted that as well.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and they had fifteen third down opportunities. So
- 6:28Speaker 1: the Vikings sort of moved the ball methodically in a
- 6:31Speaker 1: very weird way because they didn't run the ball well.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And they didn't I wouldn't say they had this great
- 6:39Speaker 1: intermediary pass game.
- 6:40Speaker 2: It seems like Carson Wentz threw outside.
- 6:42Speaker 1: The numbers quite a bit, but it seemed like they
- 6:45Speaker 1: moved the ball and Carson just scrambling around finding somebody
- 6:48Speaker 1: like sort of nickel and diming in a very weird way.
- 6:51Speaker 3: It's very Carson Wentz esque for sure. I mean he
- 6:54Speaker 3: really was. He plays hero ball, it's kind of his thing.
- 6:56Speaker 3: He likes to you know, go around make plays. Sometimes
- 6:59Speaker 3: it works, sometimes it doesn't.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Right, But as you point out here, the Eagles third
- 7:04Speaker 1: down percentage was not good. Now, sometimes they compensate when
- 7:07Speaker 1: they're really good on fourth down, and they did have
- 7:09Speaker 1: a fourth down touchdown, so that that's a big compensator.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Usually is if you're not getting the third down, you know,
- 7:15Speaker 3: if you're scoring on first or second. I mean that
- 7:17Speaker 3: contributes to it as well. That we didn't acknowledge last
- 7:19Speaker 3: week that I do think is something that is a
- 7:22Speaker 3: factor that could affect this for sure.
- 7:24Speaker 1: For sure, for sure. But you look again, way behind
- 7:28Speaker 1: twenty twenty five and even twenty twenty four's conversion rates
- 7:32Speaker 1: there as far as success. The opponent they allowed this
- 7:37Speaker 1: is no, no, I'm sorry it was Eagles.
- 7:40Speaker 3: End opponent is yeah, this is on the season, right.
- 7:43Speaker 2: So this divides third down between short.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Medium, and long, and this is for the season now,
- 7:50Speaker 1: third and short Eagles eight of eleven, seventy two percent.
- 7:53Speaker 1: That makes a lot of sense because you know they
- 7:55Speaker 1: on third and one, third and two they'll run that
- 7:56Speaker 1: touch push.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Absolutely, and that hasn't beged. That number hasn't changed.
- 8:00Speaker 1: So, right, did anything change from.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Yeah, there were more third and medium and more third
- 8:07Speaker 3: and long attempts, right, so it would skew the You'll
- 8:11Speaker 3: see that in the next chart if you go down,
- 8:13Speaker 3: you'll see the visual breakdown that it has actually grown.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Oh okay, nice, well, not nice for the Eagles, but.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I mean I'm not too happy about that.
- 8:24Speaker 2: It's a dangerous way to live.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I mean, it's great when you can convert on third
- 8:27Speaker 1: and long, but it's not great to be have to
- 8:29Speaker 1: be a shot play offense without a running game.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Absolutely, I mean there's a lot. The crazy thing is
- 8:35Speaker 3: there's a lot that they can improve on. Like that is,
- 8:37Speaker 3: and they're five and two. There's a lot that they
- 8:39Speaker 3: can improve on.
- 8:40Speaker 1: That is true.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Whether they do it or not is a difference.
- 8:44Speaker 1: You know.
- 8:44Speaker 3: It's exciting, honestly as a fan to just be like,
- 8:47Speaker 3: there's a lot that my team can do better. You know,
- 8:50Speaker 3: if you're a fan, you're sitting there, like, my team
- 8:52Speaker 3: is five and two, and there's so much that they
- 8:55Speaker 3: can and maybe will do better. So that's definitely something
- 8:58Speaker 3: to keep optimistic out.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it is still good that let's say the Eagles
- 9:04Speaker 1: opponents are in third and long thirty eight percent of
- 9:06Speaker 1: the time, The Eagles themselves, according to your charge, are
- 9:10Speaker 1: in third and long fifty six percent of time. I
- 9:12Speaker 1: find that discrepancy to be like jarring actually, for especially
- 9:19Speaker 1: for a team that's five and two. I mean, they
- 9:21Speaker 1: are really losing in the situational battle to their opponent
- 9:25Speaker 1: quite a bit, and yet they're winning games.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Yeah, do you find ways to win?
- 9:32Speaker 1: Do you think that it's sort of an ominous harbinger though?
- 9:37Speaker 1: For if they don't, to your point, they have chance
- 9:41Speaker 1: to improve If this number, if these numbers were to have
- 9:43Speaker 1: stayed this way for the next you know, Giants, and
- 9:46Speaker 1: then ten games after that, I think ten, yeah is
- 9:50Speaker 1: that right? Nine games after that? Would you think that
- 9:53Speaker 1: they could continue to win five of seven games this way?
- 9:57Speaker 3: If if I took the Eagles out of it, if
- 9:59Speaker 3: I just looked at the stats and just the stats alone,
- 10:02Speaker 3: I would say that there is no way. I mean,
- 10:05Speaker 3: you can't replicate the success over that time with these
- 10:08Speaker 3: numbers like it just it does not make sense. That
- 10:11Speaker 3: being said, the personnel that they have seems to find
- 10:15Speaker 3: ways to win when the stats just don't matter. And
- 10:17Speaker 3: as someone who loves statistics, you know I do. Yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 3: it hurts to hear that because they don't. They're playing
- 10:25Speaker 3: the game to win the game. They don't care what
- 10:27Speaker 3: the numbers say. But I do think like the numbers
- 10:30Speaker 3: do matter, you know that they do exist for a reason,
- 10:33Speaker 3: and they could be in some serious trouble if they
- 10:35Speaker 3: don't make any changes.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Some of this data that really you bring to light
- 10:40Speaker 1: here is it really?
- 10:42Speaker 2: It's eye opening, you know.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I mean you don't really think about it, but it's
- 10:45Speaker 1: eye opening. Like you know, just like last year they
- 10:48Speaker 1: win the Super Bowl and it makes sense because they're
- 10:51Speaker 1: in third and long less than their opponent. That shows
- 10:54Speaker 1: you they were more efficient on offense and their opponent
- 10:56Speaker 1: and they were better on defense, right, And you look
- 10:59Speaker 1: at it at how it's so different this year. Man,
- 11:02Speaker 1: it's just surprising me.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Yeah. And I mean even though they were better, it
- 11:06Speaker 3: was still close, right. I mean you look at their
- 11:09Speaker 3: third and long was forty six point six percent for them,
- 11:12Speaker 3: and their defense was forty seven point four percent. So yeah,
- 11:15Speaker 3: it's better, but they're close, They're they're not close.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Right In the other words, I said, staggering how different
- 11:21Speaker 2: it is?
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, all right, you have a cool stat here
- 11:26Speaker 1: prior to.
- 11:26Speaker 2: The Vikings game with this the Eagles.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Before the breaking games, the Eagles were the only team
- 11:30Speaker 3: in the NFL to rank bottom five in both offensive
- 11:32Speaker 3: and defensive substitution rate. The offense substituted forty nine percent,
- 11:37Speaker 3: which was the league worst. I guess the league least,
- 11:39Speaker 3: maybe not worse.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Because yeah, at least I would say, yeah, it's.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Probably a better way to articulate that. But they only
- 11:45Speaker 3: brought in one and a half players on average per
- 11:48Speaker 3: sub which was the fourth fewest in the NFL, and
- 11:50Speaker 3: the defense was fifty point nine percent. Again, third fewest,
- 11:53Speaker 3: is probably a better way to say that. I wrote
- 11:56Speaker 3: it that way, but you know, just talking it through,
- 11:58Speaker 3: it makes more sense to say that.
- 11:59Speaker 1: It makes sense to me because you know, Vic plays
- 12:03Speaker 1: his guys, and it seems like every week the Eagles
- 12:06Speaker 1: are playing a team that's got like not only a nickel,
- 12:09Speaker 1: but then a big nickel and then the dollar. I
- 12:11Speaker 1: think that the Giants were playing with like two dime
- 12:13Speaker 1: different dime defenses. I know the Rams were like everybody's
- 12:16Speaker 1: got these movable pieces.
- 12:18Speaker 2: On the back end, and that's great. I'm not knocking it.
- 12:20Speaker 2: I mean, if you play to your personnel, But the.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Eagles seem even even in on offense, right do they
- 12:26Speaker 1: Where they do rotate frequently between eleven and twelve personnel,
- 12:30Speaker 1: it's usually the same dude.
- 12:32Speaker 2: So it's not that much of a substitutional.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Pattern, absolutely, which we'll talk about later in this podcast.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Is that actually sort of changed this week?
- 12:40Speaker 1: Okay? Cool? Yeah, yes it did. All right, let's look
- 12:45Speaker 1: at the Eagles offense from an advanced analytics stand up point.
- 12:50Speaker 3: The Eagles have returned to form on offense the last
- 12:55Speaker 3: two weeks that we did this. How much green was
- 12:57Speaker 3: on the Eagle side? A lot less? Right?
- 12:59Speaker 2: Well? I remember were like what was the giants when
- 13:01Speaker 2: it was like everything was red? Yeah?
- 13:04Speaker 3: Yeah, so I mean to that degree, I mean it's
- 13:09Speaker 3: it's definitely a lot better. But then you look at
- 13:11Speaker 3: the numbers and you're like, was it actually that good? Right?
- 13:14Speaker 3: I mean they still had a negative EPA per play,
- 13:16Speaker 3: still had a negative EPA per pass, which is shocking.
- 13:19Speaker 3: They still had a negative EPA per rush, which is
- 13:22Speaker 3: less shocking. And then you look at their you know
- 13:26Speaker 3: net time before Oh, sorry that I I actually made
- 13:31Speaker 3: a mistake. I was looking that's on the season, right.
- 13:34Speaker 1: On the season.
- 13:34Speaker 2: That's what we're talking about.
- 13:35Speaker 3: That's what I was trying to say, but I I
- 13:38Speaker 3: think I didn't articulate that clearly enough on the season, right, yeah, right,
- 13:42Speaker 3: And you look at the Vikings game and it was,
- 13:44Speaker 3: you know, they they had positive EPA per play, a
- 13:48Speaker 3: positive EPA per pass, and then again not shockingly, a
- 13:51Speaker 3: negative EPA per rush.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm I'm really I've been using NFL Pro a lot.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I've been really getting involved with the EPA, even though
- 13:58Speaker 1: I can't say I understand. You know, I don't know
- 14:01Speaker 1: if anybody really knows how the formula works, but I
- 14:05Speaker 1: am no. Now, I studied it enough to know that
- 14:08Speaker 1: if you have a plus point six y two, that
- 14:11Speaker 1: is like ridiculously high.
- 14:14Speaker 3: But the crazy part is that without being that high,
- 14:17Speaker 3: it's still negative on the season. I think that was
- 14:19Speaker 3: the point I was trying to make, but I don't
- 14:20Speaker 3: think I made it clear enough when I was saying it.
- 14:22Speaker 2: That is a great point that this game could, even
- 14:24Speaker 2: as much of an outlier as it was, they couldn't
- 14:28Speaker 2: even skew the average for the season that much, which.
- 14:31Speaker 3: The average on the season was positive until I think
- 14:35Speaker 3: the Buccaneers week, and I think that became negative after that.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So the Eagles had for the season, their
- 14:44Speaker 1: average time to throw is up three to zero three.
- 14:46Speaker 1: For this game you have three three nine.
- 14:47Speaker 2: That's good, and that was very glaring. I thought it
- 14:50Speaker 2: was very.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Obvious that pass protection for Jill and Hurts was really
- 14:54Speaker 1: good and therefore that's why the higher time to throw
- 14:58Speaker 1: and and.
- 15:00Speaker 2: More beneficial time pressure.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Yeah yeah right. But that being said, Hurts obviously felt
- 15:06Speaker 3: comfortable because he held the ball on longer than you know,
- 15:10Speaker 3: the pressure he was getting pressured while he was throwing.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Yes, a couple of throws he went to Davante where
- 15:16Speaker 1: he was getting drilled while he threw.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Yeah, So I just think that it's interesting that when
- 15:21Speaker 3: his time to pressure goes up. You this is not
- 15:23Speaker 3: the first game that I saw where his time to
- 15:25Speaker 3: pressure went up where his time to throw also went up,
- 15:28Speaker 3: which you which is reasonable, but by that difference, like
- 15:31Speaker 3: it went from you know, negative, it went from zero
- 15:34Speaker 3: point one to nine seconds to zero point three four seconds,
- 15:37Speaker 3: and it almost effectively doubled. So when he wasn't pressured,
- 15:41Speaker 3: he's doubling the time he takes at that point on average.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Incredible separation pretty much the same run success not good
- 15:50Speaker 1: again good and run stuff rate higher I think that
- 15:53Speaker 1: that that just that just jumps out watching it stack
- 15:58Speaker 1: box percentage. So they saw more with stacked box by
- 16:01Speaker 1: the light. And that's kind of a function of how
- 16:03Speaker 1: the Vikings they think play defense. They play a lot
- 16:05Speaker 1: of six man fronts and five in the back and
- 16:08Speaker 1: then they'll bring.
- 16:08Speaker 2: They kept breaking.
- 16:09Speaker 1: This is why the Eagles passing, you know, passed the
- 16:12Speaker 1: ball well because the safety got into the box as
- 16:15Speaker 1: like a seventh defender, right, that would be would that
- 16:17Speaker 1: be a stack box seven defenders?
- 16:19Speaker 3: Uh? It would not, Oh that would be the okay. Yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 3: So I will say to the Vikings credit. They have
- 16:26Speaker 3: that guy forty four Mattelis ye who plays every position
- 16:30Speaker 3: on the field. It is insane. I've never seen anything
- 16:33Speaker 3: quite like it. He did get Burt pretty badly. I
- 16:37Speaker 3: believe it was the AJ Brown touchdown.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it was the one where he pointed and said,
- 16:43Speaker 2: just run.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Up the field.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Ye.
- 16:45Speaker 3: But that being said, you can kind of mix and
- 16:47Speaker 3: match and do whatever you want when you have a
- 16:49Speaker 3: player like that.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Oh. Absolutely, Plus that's what they kind of used to
- 16:53Speaker 1: do that with Harrison Smith. And now they found a
- 16:56Speaker 1: guy that the Harrison's Smith still playing, But they almost
- 16:58Speaker 1: found a successor.
- 16:59Speaker 3: In that way, we're back to win. So back to
- 17:03Speaker 3: the star of the statu sheet.
- 17:04Speaker 1: There we go, Star of the statuet.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Are you surprised that I went with Smitty?
- 17:09Speaker 1: No, not at all.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I could have gone with I could have gone with
- 17:12Speaker 3: aj Brown, could have gone with Jalen Hurts. But I
- 17:14Speaker 3: think we have to celebrate Smitty here in what he
- 17:17Speaker 3: did from a statistical standpoint, truly incredible. Recorded a career
- 17:22Speaker 3: high one hundred and eighty three receiving yards and a
- 17:25Speaker 3: touchdown on nine receptions. It is the most yards on
- 17:29Speaker 3: the season for any player as a receiver. He was
- 17:32Speaker 3: targeted six times down the field, catching five for one
- 17:35Speaker 3: hundred and sixty three yards in a touchdown. He had
- 17:38Speaker 3: one hundred and seven yards on deep perceptions, which are
- 17:41Speaker 3: perceptions twenty yards or more. And he had three receptions
- 17:44Speaker 3: one hundred and five yards and one touchdown against former
- 17:48Speaker 3: Eagle Isaiah Rodgers.
- 17:50Speaker 1: How about that.
- 17:51Speaker 2: So you're telling me.
- 17:54Speaker 1: It's basically had like seventy percent of his yards on
- 17:56Speaker 1: deep perceptions. Totally. Yeah, that's amazing. Wow, So I never
- 18:04Speaker 1: even checked, But it's hard to believe that his one
- 18:06Speaker 1: hundred and eighty three yards is the most by a
- 18:08Speaker 1: receiver this year, because there was that Thursday Night game
- 18:10Speaker 1: where I think Joe Flacco Pepper target. Yeah, I mean
- 18:14Speaker 1: I think Tom Chase called like twenty passes.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Let me see, let me see a stat line. It
- 18:19Speaker 3: was that directly from NFL Pro So I hope they
- 18:22Speaker 3: didn't lead me wrong.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I mean usually they're on top of that.
- 18:26Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. That was he had one hundred
- 18:30Speaker 3: and sixty one yards.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Ah, okay, because he had Wow, look at the jail
- 18:39Speaker 1: the Davante Smith route chart there. That just shows you
- 18:41Speaker 1: right there a lot of deep balls.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and honestly, it's just it's more diverse than what
- 18:48Speaker 3: we've seen.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Yeah, they lined them up everywhere inside the numbers, outside
- 18:52Speaker 1: the numbers.
- 18:53Speaker 3: I believe one of the stats I was looking at
- 18:55Speaker 3: was his slot percentage has increased significantly as to like
- 18:59Speaker 3: compare to last year, and so they're finding some success there,
- 19:02Speaker 3: which is interesting.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Well, I was thinking about that this week because you know,
- 19:07Speaker 1: for all of the headlines that he got in training camp,
- 19:10Speaker 1: Davante Smith and he had a great training camp. I'm
- 19:14Speaker 1: not Davonte Smith.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Johan Dotson.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Have you have we talked about Johan Dotson since.
- 19:18Speaker 2: The season started at all.
- 19:20Speaker 1: He might actually be on pace for fewer catches this
- 19:23Speaker 1: year than he was last year.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Yeah, so, I mean, you know how I feel about
- 19:29Speaker 3: Han you know, yeah, no, I'm not knocking the guy either.
- 19:33Speaker 1: It's a function of the offense not being really crisp
- 19:36Speaker 1: from game to day. But he's also not a archetype
- 19:40Speaker 1: slot receiver, and so it's just you know, you got
- 19:44Speaker 1: a bunch of move z's out there.
- 19:46Speaker 2: You know.
- 19:46Speaker 3: It's so interesting that you say that, because when kJ
- 19:50Speaker 3: Hamler left and the team had to decide what to
- 19:54Speaker 3: do and they decided to put Johan Dotson in the slot,
- 19:57Speaker 3: he had success, but he was so much better on
- 19:59Speaker 3: the outside.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:00Speaker 3: At Penn State we're talking about for sure, Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 1: State, right, all right, the boy Handler's out of the
- 20:05Speaker 1: league already. Huh.
- 20:06Speaker 3: That's a shame. I think he got hurt or something.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Yeah, man, he was so electric that when they had
- 20:11Speaker 1: him and Dotson. Man, it was I haven't seen that
- 20:14Speaker 1: Penn State team in a while.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Yeah. We can move on. We don't have to suffer.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 20:21Speaker 1: All right, all right, so go through some of the
- 20:23Speaker 1: stats here from Jalen Hurts is amazing spray chart.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Yeah. So look, let's talk about the deep attempts. Five
- 20:28Speaker 3: for five, two hundred and fifteen yards, three touchdowns, the
- 20:31Speaker 3: most deep passing yards in a single game of his career.
- 20:36Speaker 3: It's the second most by any player of the season.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Can you guess who the number one is? You're gonna
- 20:39Speaker 3: be shocked.
- 20:40Speaker 1: The most deep passing yards in a single game this
- 20:44Speaker 1: year deep passing yard, I'm gonna be shocked.
- 20:46Speaker 2: All right. So it's not golf and it's is it
- 20:49Speaker 2: bo Nicks.
- 20:50Speaker 3: It's a player that's not starting anymore.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Oh my, is it Russell Wilson from the Cowboys game?
- 20:58Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 20:59Speaker 2: Wow? Spect them up?
- 21:02Speaker 1: You think Jackson Dart's like, man, if I just had
- 21:04Speaker 1: Melik neighbors, how much even like we're already on a roll,
- 21:08Speaker 1: Imagine if I have Melik neighbors.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Yeah, they could be legitimate contenders. It's a little scary
- 21:12Speaker 3: for sure.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Yeah, of course you have the perfect passer rating, just
- 21:16Speaker 1: the third quarterback in Eagles history to have that, behind
- 21:20Speaker 1: Foles and McNab.
- 21:22Speaker 3: You know we did on seven touchdown game against Oakland. Yep, yes,
- 21:25Speaker 3: Las Vegas, but it was Oakland at the time.
- 21:27Speaker 2: It's crazy to me.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I've I started covering the Eagles in two thousand and
- 21:30Speaker 1: five and I've seen the best really overall quarterback play.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Because of the eleven best Eagles passer rating single game, right,
- 21:40Speaker 1: I've been at in person live to see I think
- 21:44Speaker 1: five or six of them.
- 21:45Speaker 3: So good luck for the Eagles. The Eagles should give
- 21:48Speaker 3: you tickets to every game at all times.
- 21:51Speaker 1: And you know I was the whole game though I
- 21:54Speaker 1: was there that was in Las Vegas or in Oakland,
- 21:58Speaker 1: I should say, all right, so you wanted to expand
- 22:02Speaker 1: a little bit more on the offense, Well, this is
- 22:04Speaker 1: good stuff versus Man versus own.
- 22:05Speaker 2: What do we got?
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yeah? So basically what's interesting with aj Brown is on
- 22:12Speaker 3: the season. I'm sorry now this season. In this game,
- 22:15Speaker 3: he had five routes run against Man. He had four targets.
- 22:20Speaker 3: On those five routes run, he caught three of them.
- 22:23Speaker 3: He had one hundred and eight yards thirty six yards
- 22:26Speaker 3: per catch, and two touchdowns.
- 22:29Speaker 1: So he basically had all of his production against Man.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Exactly five routes. But he ran twenty one routes against Zone.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Of those twenty one, he was targeted three times. He
- 22:41Speaker 3: caught one of them for thirteen yards no touchdowns.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Maybe, as everyone knows who's listening to the show. Probably,
- 22:49Speaker 1: and I'm sure yourself. You know, AJ was on Instagram
- 22:52Speaker 1: on Monday or Tuesday. You thought I would have thought
- 22:54Speaker 1: would be happy with one hundred and eight and two,
- 22:56Speaker 1: But he put up a cryptic message that said something
- 22:59Speaker 1: like use me, but don't use me. And maybe he's
- 23:02Speaker 1: feeling like, yeah, it's great when it's one on one
- 23:05Speaker 1: you throw me up the ball, but within the structure
- 23:07Speaker 1: of plays against zone where I'm running four times as
- 23:10Speaker 1: many routes, I'm not seeing the ball at all.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, listen, is that drama ever gonna die down?
- 23:18Speaker 3: Even with winning? It hasn't died down. So it's just
- 23:20Speaker 3: it's something you gotta deal with.
- 23:22Speaker 1: It's certainly something I'm more concerned about now than ever before, actually,
- 23:26Speaker 1: because I thought after a win it would go away,
- 23:29Speaker 1: especially after he had the two touchdowns and one hundred yards.
- 23:32Speaker 1: And when you see that, you wonder, is there an
- 23:34Speaker 1: agenda here? Is he trying to force something like that?
- 23:38Speaker 1: Was just a little bit of a surprise to me.
- 23:39Speaker 3: But just to be clear, they cannot trade him during
- 23:42Speaker 3: the season. The dead cap would be insurmountable.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think it would happen for this.
- 23:47Speaker 3: So I just just want to put that out there
- 23:49Speaker 3: that anybody that wants that to happen or things it's
- 23:53Speaker 3: going to happen, it's not going to happen.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I can't imagine that in a world this unless they
- 23:57Speaker 1: lose like seven in a row here and then like
- 23:59Speaker 1: they don't care about the cap.
- 24:01Speaker 3: At that point, at that point, the trade deadline is
- 24:02Speaker 3: gonna be over.
- 24:03Speaker 2: That's a great point.
- 24:04Speaker 3: It's not even gonna matter. It's just it's not happening
- 24:06Speaker 3: this season.
- 24:07Speaker 2: It's not happening, all right.
- 24:09Speaker 1: What do we have on the on the rushing here?
- 24:12Speaker 3: Yeah, so Saquon Barkley, and again your article talked a
- 24:18Speaker 3: little bit about this before, but he's been contacted behind
- 24:21Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage on fifty eight percent of his
- 24:23Speaker 3: carries this season while gaining the fewest yards before contact
- 24:27Speaker 3: negative too among running backs with greater than thirty carries
- 24:31Speaker 3: between the tackles.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's the answer to the test. So
- 24:35Speaker 1: someone I was doing an interview with Mike Gill on
- 24:37Speaker 1: Football four ninety seven three ESPN, and he was playing
- 24:40Speaker 1: some quote I can't remember who it was. It was
- 24:42Speaker 1: a a commentator who was breaking down the tape and
- 24:47Speaker 1: basically saying, Barkley isn't the same guy, or he's not
- 24:51Speaker 1: he's not seeing the holes, or it's and and I'm like, I,
- 24:56Speaker 1: how can you say that?
- 24:57Speaker 3: Like he I don't think that's true.
- 25:00Speaker 1: That he's getting mobbed as soon as he to. These
- 25:03Speaker 1: numbers say it all fifty eight percent of the time
- 25:06Speaker 1: he's getting hit behind the line of scrimmage. Now what
- 25:10Speaker 1: if you add it at the line of scrimmage or
- 25:12Speaker 1: just one yard about, it's probably become sixty sixty seventy percent.
- 25:18Speaker 1: And as you wrote here, last season, he was only
- 25:20Speaker 1: contact behind the line thirty eight percent.
- 25:22Speaker 3: That's a twenty percent drop. That's your Yeah. The offensive
- 25:27Speaker 3: line play, in particular in run blocking has just not
- 25:31Speaker 3: been what. It has not been the standard right And honestly,
- 25:35Speaker 3: a lot of it can be attributed to injuries, agreed,
- 25:38Speaker 3: I mean losing Beckton it has kind of hurt. I
- 25:41Speaker 3: think Steen has played well enough, but I think the
- 25:44Speaker 3: injuries have just been tough.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Absolutely, I just can't put this on Bonsaquon. I know
- 25:50Speaker 1: a lot of people people get frustrated and you know,
- 25:56Speaker 1: people look for things to blame and all that, but like,
- 25:59Speaker 1: this is not it. This is not the one.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, say, Quon's frustrated you hear him, but
- 26:06Speaker 3: he's he's happy, he's winning, but he wants to contribute.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Everybody wants to contribute on this team.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Other Eagles offensive stats.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Yeah, let's go kind of quickly. So the Eagles recorded
- 26:17Speaker 3: season highs and explosive play rate eighteen point four percent
- 26:21Speaker 3: and EPA per play plus zero point two to one
- 26:24Speaker 3: in Week seven. Person you want to talk about that
- 26:28Speaker 3: one or yet read it away. Personnel they I think
- 26:32Speaker 3: you might have something to say about this one. They
- 26:33Speaker 3: use eleven personnel at a season low forty four point
- 26:36Speaker 3: nine percent, but average the season high of eight point
- 26:39Speaker 3: six yards per play in eleven personnel. Uh. They used
- 26:43Speaker 3: seven different unique personnel groupings in total, most in a
- 26:47Speaker 3: game after not using more than five unique personnel groupings
- 26:50Speaker 3: in any other game this season.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Hmmm.
- 26:54Speaker 2: So that's a that's something interesting, right.
- 26:56Speaker 3: They're trying to do, you know, put little wrinkles in,
- 26:58Speaker 3: change things up.
- 26:59Speaker 1: I mean, and that, by the way, this does not
- 27:01Speaker 1: surprise me because I wrote about this for Philly Voice
- 27:05Speaker 1: they showed a different kind of look on sixteen snaps,
- 27:09Speaker 1: which was going under center. Fred Johnson on the field
- 27:12Speaker 1: for about half of them. At the eight or nine snaps,
- 27:14Speaker 1: he was an extra offensive tackle. So yeah, they had
- 27:17Speaker 1: different guys out there, and they were they were in
- 27:21Speaker 1: different formations.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I definitely it worked.
- 27:25Speaker 1: But I feel like this seeson, the average is a
- 27:27Speaker 1: little skewed by the big plays, but you could also
- 27:30Speaker 1: say the big plays came from what they were doing
- 27:33Speaker 1: that was different. I just don't know if that's sustainable
- 27:36Speaker 1: week after while, just because they're they're going under center. Now,
- 27:40Speaker 1: you know the offensive st people that that's like an
- 27:42Speaker 1: easy thing to find on film and adjust to if
- 27:44Speaker 1: you're a defense.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Well, I think Jordan Mylotta had this like quote, I'm
- 27:48Speaker 3: sure you know about it, where he was just saying that,
- 27:49Speaker 3: like under center is easier for them in terms of
- 27:52Speaker 3: like their past blocking lanes and you know the angles
- 27:55Speaker 3: that defenders take. It's actually a super interesting thing I
- 27:57Speaker 3: was reading about.
- 27:59Speaker 2: I think I can understand that. I think it was harder.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Though, for Brett toath sure center because they were asking
- 28:05Speaker 1: him to sort of make some blocks on on three
- 28:07Speaker 1: techniques that he that from that spot for his not
- 28:11Speaker 1: being who he not being like the same kind of
- 28:13Speaker 1: skill set as a cam as a Yeah, Jurgens are
- 28:16Speaker 1: a Kelsey A little bit tougher.
- 28:18Speaker 3: No, for sure. And that's the thing. They're gonna have
- 28:20Speaker 3: to do different things to make it easier on the
- 28:22Speaker 3: offensive line, which has honestly been a huge strength for
- 28:25Speaker 3: the past couple of years most of the like honestly,
- 28:28Speaker 3: maybe even longer than that. So they're gonna have to,
- 28:30Speaker 3: you know, make adjustments. And I think they are putting
- 28:32Speaker 3: things together that are working. I mean, hopefully it'll be sustainable.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 28:37Speaker 1: The only thing that is disappointing, right is that this
- 28:41Speaker 1: all only influenced the pass game, not the run game.
- 28:43Speaker 1: And normally, if you told me you were going to
- 28:45Speaker 1: put an extra offensive tackle as big as Fred Johnson
- 28:48Speaker 1: on the field and go under center, I would say, oh,
- 28:50Speaker 1: that shouna help you running game, right, Like, it's like
- 28:54Speaker 1: basically the whole point of.
- 28:55Speaker 3: It, to be honest with you, and this is it's
- 28:59Speaker 3: going to be interesting to say, but they need to
- 29:02Speaker 3: set up their run game with the pass. It's it's
- 29:06Speaker 3: almost the opposite of conventional wisdom, right you say you
- 29:09Speaker 3: have to set your pass game up with the run game.
- 29:11Speaker 3: But in this case they need to have concepts that
- 29:14Speaker 3: you can marry with, like passing concepts that you can
- 29:17Speaker 3: use to build off in your run game. I agree, Really,
- 29:20Speaker 3: that's what I'm thinking.
- 29:21Speaker 2: However, it can't be the shot pass. It's gotta be
- 29:25Speaker 2: more of an intermediary get the ball out of the hands.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Quick pass game that does that. And they haven't really
- 29:30Speaker 1: done well at that yet either. They've done it in spurts,
- 29:34Speaker 1: but they would need to improve there as well.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:37Speaker 4: Absolutely, Sky Motor Cars and we guess there's a different
- 29:40Speaker 4: building dealers game all the Texas one one with their
- 29:42Speaker 4: highline own vehicles, but people all over the country the
- 29:46Speaker 4: motor Breast. Make sure you don't spend the time with
- 29:48Speaker 4: your money before you've purchased the car. Sky Motor Cars
- 29:51Speaker 4: allows you to make all the decisions regarding your next vehicle.
- 29:55Speaker 4: At sky Motor Cars, you never have to spend more
- 29:58Speaker 4: than necessary. There's a sky Motor Cornas dot Com today
- 30:01Speaker 4: are called sixteen nine to one, eight seven fives.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Hey, Philly fans.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Game day is stressful enough, parking traffic, long lines, We've
- 30:13Speaker 1: all been there, But when it comes to your cannabis.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is the dispensary for
- 30:20Speaker 1: sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly, with plenty of

- 31:03Speaker 1: and an experience made for Philly fans.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Twenty one and up.
- 31:06Speaker 3: When I was particlarly running over these last things, you
- 31:09Speaker 3: know for no huddle twenty one point four percent of
- 31:12Speaker 3: offensive snaps this season, third highest the league average is
- 31:15Speaker 3: ten point two percent. Hurts average eight point eight yards
- 31:18Speaker 3: per attempt, and no huddle second best in QB is
- 31:21Speaker 3: greater than fifteen no huddle attempts.
- 31:23Speaker 1: He's always always been very good with no huddle.
- 31:25Speaker 2: That that's good stuff, yep.
- 31:27Speaker 3: But also Hurts has the sixth highest pressure to sack
- 31:30Speaker 3: rate in the NFL twenty three point three percent, but
- 31:32Speaker 3: one hundred and forty consecutive passes under pressure without throwing
- 31:35Speaker 3: an interception since Week two twenty twenty four.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yes, because the interception that he threw against the Giants.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Who is not pressured on.
- 31:41Speaker 3: That cr unfortunately not.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that really doesn't surprise me.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I mean, he's I don't know how he does it.
- 31:47Speaker 1: It's the most unconventional thing I've ever seen.
- 31:49Speaker 2: But he takes a lot of sacks, but he holds
- 31:51Speaker 2: onto the ball.
- 31:51Speaker 3: So yeah, you kind of take it. And then last
- 31:54Speaker 3: offensive stat before go to the defense, the Eagles skilled
- 31:57Speaker 3: players have combined for a record league on thirteen point
- 32:01Speaker 3: three percent for mistackle rate this season.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Wow, that's pretty interesting.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I've never even registered in my head that they weren't
- 32:09Speaker 1: making people miss.
- 32:10Speaker 3: That's interesting. I wouldn't have thought it too, but it
- 32:12Speaker 3: was one of the stats that NFL Pro put out, so.
- 32:15Speaker 2: It is also mixed.
- 32:16Speaker 1: I mean, there again, there've been a shot play passing game,
- 32:19Speaker 1: so they're getting a lot of deep strikes to Aj
- 32:22Speaker 1: and DeVante where you're not. There's no intermediary game, there's
- 32:25Speaker 1: no people to make miss. They're probably the only guy
- 32:28Speaker 1: who's doing that is when the ball goes to Dallas Goddard.
- 32:32Speaker 3: I was also thinking got her. But I mean there
- 32:33Speaker 3: was the game where aj Brown just took over in
- 32:35Speaker 3: the when he had the internet.
- 32:36Speaker 2: One game Rice, so he did.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Yeah, but besides that, not really not really.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, interesting stuff, good stuff, Sam, that was
- 32:43Speaker 1: a really good stat.
- 32:44Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 32:45Speaker 1: All right, defense, as we get to here, these are
- 32:48Speaker 1: the advanced stats.
- 32:50Speaker 3: You know what this says to me, Well, the defense
- 32:53Speaker 3: stepped up. I mean, look you look at the green
- 32:56Speaker 3: all the way on the right. I mean they played
- 32:58Speaker 3: better than their season average almost every category. Yep, that
- 33:02Speaker 3: is true except for the passing.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Right right. And you know, like we said against the
- 33:08Speaker 2: Giants was all red so.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Uh, time to pressure two point nine to six a
- 33:14Speaker 1: little that's interesting. It was a little bit longer than
- 33:17Speaker 1: their normal time to pressure. But they're they're a little
- 33:19Speaker 1: depleted at the edge. They didn't really get a lot
- 33:21Speaker 1: of great pressure in the game. They got timely red
- 33:24Speaker 1: zone pressure, so that makes sense. Yep, time to throw
- 33:28Speaker 1: time Oh no, I'm sorry, I was looking at time
- 33:30Speaker 1: to throw, but time to pressure was down at so
- 33:33Speaker 1: it was down.
- 33:34Speaker 2: So they had a better time time to pressure.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Than believe it or not, they did. Yeah, they did. Okay,
- 33:41Speaker 3: it's it's interesting where that that kind of comes from.
- 33:44Speaker 3: But we'll talk a little bit about I took. We'll
- 33:47Speaker 3: talk a little bit about it for sure, okay, But basically,
- 33:51Speaker 3: you know, there they made Carson Wentz hold onto the ball,
- 33:55Speaker 3: or Carson Wentz held onto the ball because that's what
- 33:57Speaker 3: Carson Wentz does. One of those two things happened, yes,
- 34:00Speaker 3: which led to it.
- 34:01Speaker 1: So the stack percentage was a little up. That's good.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Their quarterback pressure was right on on par with what
- 34:07Speaker 1: they've been all year, which has been decent. Their run
- 34:11Speaker 1: stuff that was a big thing right here, Sam, the
- 34:12Speaker 1: twenty six point one percent run stuff compared to their
- 34:15Speaker 1: season average of eleven point seven. They had to be
- 34:18Speaker 1: better there, and Joe and Carter playing in that game
- 34:20Speaker 1: really helped, Yeah, for sure. And look at that they
- 34:23Speaker 1: didn't even stack the box hardly a little bit because
- 34:26Speaker 1: you know, without Aaron Jones, you weren't really worried about
- 34:28Speaker 1: that Vikings running game.
- 34:29Speaker 3: A bit, but I think it's very encouraging, right that
- 34:31Speaker 3: they still had a better run stuff percentage while stacking
- 34:35Speaker 3: the box almost half as many times.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, I mean the Vikings were on that third
- 34:40Speaker 1: stringth center. They didn't have Aaron Jones, so it's a
- 34:42Speaker 1: little bit weighted. But nonetheless you're so so I was.
- 34:46Speaker 1: It doesn't surprise me. Vic felt that he could get
- 34:48Speaker 1: the job done in nickel or in lighter fronts.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Absolutely all right.
- 34:55Speaker 1: The star of the stat sheet the man Jalx Hunt.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, listen, it's hard to not pick the
- 35:03Speaker 3: edge that got a pick six.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Fair.
- 35:07Speaker 3: I knew as soon as it happened. I'm like, so,
- 35:09Speaker 3: as long as they win this game, that's gonna be
- 35:10Speaker 3: my start of the statue.
- 35:12Speaker 1: I was gonna say, he really, I mean, he made
- 35:14Speaker 1: the most important defensive player of the game, although O
- 35:16Speaker 1: Joe had a good third down sack.
- 35:17Speaker 2: But yes, this guy returned a pick for a touchdown.
- 35:20Speaker 1: That's that's pretty.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Big as an edge too. I just I love that.
- 35:25Speaker 3: But you know, he had five quarterback pressures as well,
- 35:28Speaker 3: and that's second on the team. Only Carter had more.
- 35:31Speaker 3: And again, you gotta be sort of careful with these
- 35:33Speaker 3: quarterback pressure stats because they're gonna be different depending on
- 35:36Speaker 3: which site you use. That's why I'm when I put him,
- 35:38Speaker 3: I'm just gonna tell you where I get him from,
- 35:39Speaker 3: just as an audience, just so everybody knows where these
- 35:42Speaker 3: numbers are coming from, because I think it's important. Yeah,
- 35:46Speaker 3: either way, again, the pick six, but his coverage GPA
- 35:49Speaker 3: was minus eight point one.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Oh, he's he's like he's the Quinon Mitchell right there.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Minus eight point one EPA.
- 35:56Speaker 3: That's pretty pretty special. And then they recorded twenty one
- 36:00Speaker 3: pressures without a sack this season. Uh, and that's tied
- 36:02Speaker 3: for second most in the NFL without a sack.
- 36:05Speaker 1: That's interesting. So he's doing it.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not been bad.
- 36:08Speaker 1: I know we've talked about him not really becoming yet
- 36:11Speaker 1: that killer, right, but I mean he's doing he's doing well.
- 36:14Speaker 1: He's just not getting the sacks and the turnover. Well
- 36:16Speaker 1: now he's getting the turnover. But in general, like the
- 36:19Speaker 1: way he ended last year.
- 36:20Speaker 3: For sure, And I was gonna put that he had
- 36:22Speaker 3: led the team and get off, you know, crossing the
- 36:24Speaker 3: line of scrimmage, but he didn't. I thought he did. But
- 36:27Speaker 3: but you know, guess who.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Did Ijali on the like the six naps he played?
- 36:34Speaker 1: Who was it?
- 36:35Speaker 3: Ty Robinson? Oh?
- 36:36Speaker 2: How about that? Okay?
- 36:38Speaker 3: Eddie was zero point seven to six seconds.
- 36:41Speaker 1: They were really beating up the interior that Viking line
- 36:44Speaker 1: with that third string center in there.
- 36:46Speaker 3: They certainly were. I thought that was worth saying that.
- 36:50Speaker 3: You know, maybe he'll be on here someday. Who knows?
- 36:53Speaker 1: All right?
- 36:54Speaker 3: General defense stats pressure. As a team, the Eagles have
- 36:57Speaker 3: recorded the third lowest pressure to sack rate in the
- 37:00Speaker 3: NFL twelve point six percent game for the season. Sorry,
- 37:04Speaker 3: say that again?
- 37:05Speaker 1: Is that this game or the season?
- 37:07Speaker 3: This is on the season.
- 37:08Speaker 1: That's what I thought. Okay.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Last season they recorded the seventh highest pressure to sack
- 37:12Speaker 3: rate in the NFL twenty one point two percent. The
- 37:15Speaker 3: net negative eight point six percent is the fourth largest
- 37:18Speaker 3: decrease in the NFL.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Wow, somebody, there are three teams that actually have a
- 37:21Speaker 1: bigger decrease than that, because that's a pretty significant decrease.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Yeah, wow, I don't know those teams because I pulled
- 37:27Speaker 3: this one from NFL Pro. Was an NFL Pro you know,
- 37:30Speaker 3: one of those highlight stats. But I thought it was interesting,
- 37:32Speaker 3: so I put it on there.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Interesting, I bet. I would bet the Chiefs are one
- 37:36Speaker 1: of those teams.
- 37:36Speaker 2: I don't think they have as many sacks as.
- 37:38Speaker 3: They usually That totally makes sense for sure.
- 37:41Speaker 1: And then probably the Cowboys without Mica maybe that also
- 37:45Speaker 1: makes Yeah.
- 37:46Speaker 3: That I think you might have came up with half
- 37:49Speaker 3: the team. There we go, teams, there we go.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Now this slot thing is really interesting.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I actually was super fascinated about this. So the
- 37:58Speaker 3: Eagles defense has allowed five point one yards per target
- 38:01Speaker 3: to opposing receivers in the slot, which is the second
- 38:03Speaker 3: fewest in the NFL. Sounds great. Yeah, he's one through five,
- 38:06Speaker 3: you know, sixty yards, zero touchdowns. But Week six and seven, right,
- 38:09Speaker 3: so that that was these last two games, uh huh
- 38:12Speaker 3: seventy three yards and one touchdown.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Uh yeah, because you know Jefferson, they lined him up
- 38:18Speaker 1: in the slot a lot to create some some issues there,
- 38:20Speaker 1: and we all know what. Wandelle Robinson did some dirty
- 38:24Speaker 1: work from the slot against the Eagles that they probably
- 38:26Speaker 1: still kicking themselves about.
- 38:28Speaker 2: But yeah, no, that's pretty interesting.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Wandale Robinson always had a special place in my heart.
- 38:32Speaker 3: I recruited him at Penn State. I was the first
- 38:34Speaker 3: person to show him to the staff. Nice and they
- 38:37Speaker 3: didn't want him, said he was too small, wind.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Up being a pretty good Where are we going to Kentucky?
- 38:42Speaker 3: Right? Yeah, well he didn't. I think he went to
- 38:44Speaker 3: Nebraska originally and then transferred to Kentucky.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Right now, Well, everybody goes somewhere and then transfer somewhere.
- 38:52Speaker 2: All right, what do we got on the corners?
- 38:54Speaker 3: All right? CB two, which again we're just talking about
- 38:57Speaker 3: opposite q because you know CB one Either way, Jackson,
- 39:02Speaker 3: Ringo and Bennett have combined to allow seven point nine
- 39:05Speaker 3: yards per target Darius lag last year, just him alone,
- 39:09Speaker 3: five point eight yards per target.
- 39:11Speaker 1: That's last boy.
- 39:14Speaker 3: So opposing qbs have targeted that second quarterback twenty two
- 39:18Speaker 3: point four percent of cover snaps and they've generated plus
- 39:21Speaker 3: seventeen point eight EPA on those targets.
- 39:25Speaker 1: You know, when you see that number, you're like, why
- 39:26Speaker 1: only twenty two percent? Why don't they just literally throw
- 39:29Speaker 1: at CB two every single chance they get?
- 39:32Speaker 3: You think you'd think that would be a strategy. I'm
- 39:34Speaker 3: sure it's not that simple. But at the same time,
- 39:37Speaker 3: like you think it's still be I are the twenty
- 39:38Speaker 3: two percent? Yeah, just for comparison versus Quinnon Mitchell, it's
- 39:42Speaker 3: minus one point three.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Oh my god, it's like the old Deon Sanders take
- 39:45Speaker 2: away half a field thing.
- 39:46Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, where else are you going to
- 39:49Speaker 3: throw at that point? Right?
- 39:50Speaker 2: Right?
- 39:53Speaker 3: Just a shout out to Drew mccuba second best coverage
- 39:57Speaker 3: EPA at minus seven point one. If you remember number
- 40:00Speaker 3: one was Jylex Hunt.
- 40:02Speaker 1: That's right, that's right. The two best covers guys on
- 40:05Speaker 1: the Eagles are Jylex Hunt and Drew mccuba.
- 40:07Speaker 2: If we we all have that on our Bingo.
- 40:09Speaker 3: Card interceptions significantly, So, yes.
- 40:13Speaker 1: It does help. That's why I said, as soon as
- 40:15Speaker 1: Quinyon gets his first pick, that EPA coverage number is
- 40:19Speaker 1: just gonna sky around, well, you.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Know, even more negative than it is now or whatever.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Yeah, awesome, and he will be able to wave that
- 40:28Speaker 1: finger in front of the Cuba and Jalx Hunt. So
- 40:31Speaker 1: that'll happen. Good stuff, Sam, a lot of really fat
- 40:35Speaker 1: I feel like every episode you uncover something even more
- 40:41Speaker 1: glaring about this team, good.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Or bad, you know, positive and negative.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Uh. That makes it really interesting. So I thank forward
- 40:47Speaker 1: for doing it again next week and we'll see if
- 40:49Speaker 1: your data against the Giants after this Sunday is different
- 40:53Speaker 1: from I think the Eagles hope this is I'm sure
- 40:55Speaker 1: they do.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Hope it's different from the first time around.
- 40:58Speaker 3: And we'll compare. I'm gonna put a comparison between.
- 41:01Speaker 1: The first great idea, all right.
- 41:04Speaker 2: That is the data. We went inside the data with
- 41:07Speaker 2: Sam Finkel. For Sam, I'm Jeff Mosher.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Thanks for watching Inside the Data on inside the Birds,
