- 0:16champions. We got the committee's rankings.
- 0:20We have a playoff set on this episode, Daniel.
- 0:22We're going to react to our conference champions, react to
- 0:25those games, what happened, what we learned from those teams,
- 0:29College Football Playoff rankings reaction.
- 0:31Did the committee get it right? What do they do?
- 0:34What do we think about it? Bowl games to keep an eye on.
- 0:37Bowl season is happening, happening still.
- 0:39Despite what Notre Dame would like you to believe, bowl games
- 0:42are still happening and they're still fun.
- 0:44Which teams in this field can actually win the whole thing?
- 0:48How many and which ones? You'll get our interest to that
- 0:51be thinking about that as you're listening.
- 0:53We'll go ahead and do our first round picks against the spread,
- 0:55not just straight up, but against the spread because I
- 0:58think two of those games it gets a spread will be more fun to
- 1:00pick than just straight up. And then lastly, Daniel, our
- 1:03full bracket breakdown. Who do we think at the beginning
- 1:06is going to win it all now that we have the final bracket?
- 1:09And we'll give you a chance. And if you're watching or
- 1:11listening, you can go ahead and click this link in the episode

- 1:18Fill out a bracket compete against us I think there's at
- 1:21least 10 or 15 people in there already before we even record
- 1:24this that we've kind of sent some invites out so be sure to
- 1:27join that compete against us if you think you're smarter than us
- 1:30as you're listening prove it join our bracket group and we
- 1:33haven't talked about this Daniel maybe we'll do a prize I know
- 1:35net like we're teasing stuff next year we're going to do some
- 1:38more pick stuff during the season we're going to offer some
- 1:41more prizes I will consider it this year I don't think
- 1:44anybody's going to beat me but you know if.
- 1:46Had people ask for hats for next year.
- 1:48So I know that they, they have really, you know, liked the
- 1:53extra point hat. But yeah, I don't know what else
- 1:55we could we could provide other than our expert analysis.
- 1:58But yeah, we'll certainly, we'll certainly see if there's
- 2:00something we could do. Yeah, for the fans as as we get
- 2:04started with that. Daniel, before we get into the
- 2:07playoff, we did just have some conference championship games.
- 2:10Look, I feel like an old man at heart.
- 2:13I I still like conference championship games, although I
- 2:16know they're not that old. They're older than me.
- 2:19So they've been around for as long as I've been around.
- 2:22Look, let's just start here. We, we, we don't hide this
- 2:24Daniel, you and I are Georgia fans.
- 2:26We, I'll start with the SEC championship.
- 2:30Georgia dominates Alabama and it it was the most statistically
- 2:33the most dominating performance of the weekend.
- 2:36You know, friend of the show Parker Fleming, stats of war on
- 2:40Twitter has the did we really get beat that bad graphic he
- 2:43posts on Mondays. That's just the net success rate
- 2:46Georgia over Alabama, worst one on their highest post game win
- 2:50expectancy from Bill Conley. You know, highest one was
- 2:53Georgia over Alabama. And then Daniel, if you, if you
- 2:56watch the game, 'cause I know you might be saying shut up,
- 2:59nerd. Who cares about stats, man?
- 3:02The difference in physicality was stark compared to that first
- 3:06game. That first game, I thought that
- 3:07Alabama matched Georgia's physicality.
- 3:10This one, whether it was Georgia was that much more physical or
- 3:14Alabama didn't want any of it. Regardless, the the difference
- 3:17in physicality was astounding. And yeah, I'm not going to, you
- 3:22know what, we'll save the can Georgia win it all?
- 3:24And if you want to nitpick Georgia, all that kind of stuff.
- 3:26But in this game, Daniel, that was an old, Yeah, someone who's
- 3:29an old school guy. That was an old school game, a
- 3:32field position and impressive. Georgia, you know, in the first
- 3:36two years without divisions has now gone back-to-back and won
- 3:39the SEC back-to-back years. So I think the SEC still runs
- 3:42through Athens, GA SEC still goes through Kirby Smart and
- 3:45again, old school. I love anytime Kirby Smart gets
- 3:48a microphone in front of him 'cause he's just an old school
- 3:50ball coach and love listening to him.
- 3:52But really, really impressive 1 from Georgia.
- 3:54They get a top four seed in the by and they win the SEC and it's
- 3:58really, really impressive win. Yeah, I think this is one that
- 4:00before the game everybody just had an asterisk by because what
- 4:05should happen was Georgia win based on, you know, Alabama was
- 4:09trending down, Georgia's trending up this last month of
- 4:12the season. And it just so happened that,
- 4:15you know, they were meeting each other.
- 4:16But, you know, I mean, Georgia has had problems with Alabama.
- 4:21They've never beaten Alabama in the SEC championship.
- 4:25Alabama had never lost a game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
- 4:28You know, obviously Kirby Smart, his record against Nick Saban
- 4:33and then now just Alabama as a whole has, you know, become a
- 4:37national talking point. So it was one of those things
- 4:40like, is this truly an issue? Is this going to last forever?
- 4:44You know, what should we make of this?
- 4:47This Kaylin Nabor have Kirby Smart's number as well.
- 4:50Is the black hoodie, you know, of death the greatest?
- 4:55You know, is it better than when Florida State used to wear the
- 4:58unconquered jersey? Like what?
- 5:00What do we make of all of it? And it turned out that no, you
- 5:03could trust your eyes. Kirby Smart and this Georgia
- 5:05team are in fact physical. The streak was going to end at
- 5:10some point and it kind of got exercised on that night.
- 5:13I mean, you and I are both obviously Georgia fans.
- 5:15We've been that, you know, for our whole life.
- 5:17We we've been, you know, in the middle of this fan base for so
- 5:22long. We kind of know what the vibe
- 5:24is. I don't know how you feel Jacob,
- 5:27but the vibe for me kind of felt like when Georgia won the
- 5:29national championship against Alabama in 2021 season, you
- 5:34know, 2020 to January of 2022 where it almost was like a sigh
- 5:38of relief. And finally, you know, I was
- 5:44watching intently, not believing it was true until honestly,
- 5:49until Chauncey Bowens broke that run on 3rd and 12 with two
- 5:53minutes left in the game. And especially.
- 5:55Clinched the game at that point, you know, I was like, oh, OK, I
- 5:59think Georgia officially has won this game.
- 6:00Up 3 touchdowns with two minutes left in the fourth quarter.
- 6:04I think you can say Georgia won, yeah.
- 6:07But you look back on it once as soon as it's over and you start
- 6:10to think Georgia dominated. Like you were talking about
- 6:15offense, you know, defensively just, you know, suffocating line
- 6:19of scrimmage, special teams, obviously the punt block,
- 6:23starting field position, all of that.
- 6:25Georgia had more penalties. So if you think about it, they
- 6:27were actually, you know, they had six more penalties and more
- 6:31penalty yardage. So it kind of held them back a
- 6:33little bit. And then, you know, you throw in
- 6:36the fact that the touchdown that Alabama had, you know, again,
- 6:40I'm not here to legitimize anything.
- 6:43Alabama scored that touchdown, but Georgia was going to get off
- 6:46the field on 3rd down and they had a player throw a punch.
- 6:49And then, yeah, then there was AAPI call and then a referee
- 6:56ended up setting a pick for the receiver that ultimately scored
- 6:58and Jeremy Bernard. So again, you don't have to make
- 7:02excuses because they scored a touchdown.
- 7:05Georgia still won by plenty, but and they covered, thank
- 7:08goodness, because they made that pick.
- 7:09But yeah, it's one of those things where you can almost say
- 7:12this was almost a shutout at one point, if that.
- 7:16Those things all didn't line up for Alabama to score.
- 7:19Yeah, I think it was impressive thing for Georgia.
- 7:21If you're a Georgia fan is and if you're trying to pick the
- 7:24playoff is, you know, early in the season, you and I said, OK,
- 7:27if Georgia's issue is the defense after the Tennessee game
- 7:30and boy, do they have a coaching staff to get that fixed by the
- 7:33end of the year because this is two seasons, right?
- 7:36I mean, whole new season now, three more games that got to go
- 7:39in man. The last month, George's defense
- 7:43has started off like George's defense again.
- 7:45And the the statistical profile, Daniel, I don't think they're
- 7:48ever going to touch that 21 defense ever again.
- 7:50Yeah, I'm I'm just telling you what the numbers are saying.
- 7:53The numbers have matched the 22 defense the last month and that
- 7:56one was good enough to win a title 2.
- 7:58So good win for Georgia felt like they did what they should
- 8:01have done, but I think it was impressive the way they
- 8:04physically dominated and the way I mean they got it seemed like
- 8:08they were in the backfield every play again, you know, getting
- 8:10going after Simpson. They got 3 sacked, but it seemed
- 8:12like they were in the backfield every play, which is something
- 8:15that was not happening early in the year.
- 8:17And again, if if you're looking at teams that are getting hot at
- 8:20the right time for this playoff, honestly, like Ohio State before
- 8:23they tried to win a game a different way last year against
- 8:26Michigan. George is fitting that profile.
- 8:28Which Speaking of Ohio State, Daniel, when is first Congrats
- 8:35to Indiana? I, I keep saying this to you and
- 8:38to to others, which is I'm having a hard time trusting my
- 8:42eyes with Indiana because I'm a nerd.
- 8:45I love recruiting, I love the sport, I love stats.
- 8:49And it's just it's not I'm watching them play.
- 8:51Their stats are great and I'm looking at the roster and it
- 8:53does not make any sense. Right.
- 8:56S2 plus they're a top four offense.
- 8:58Top two? I mean they're 4th on offense,
- 8:59second on defense. They looked like physically
- 9:03equal with Ohio State the other night.
- 9:05So huge Congrats to Indiana. You could argue Kurt Cignetti
- 9:09has done the best coaching job of all time the last two years,
- 9:13considering Indiana when he took over had the FBS worst winning
- 9:18percentage of all time as a program and he's now gone 11 and
- 9:23112 and O 13 and O Big 10 championship.
- 9:26So I'm not being hyperbolic when you could say Kurt Cignetti has
- 9:30done the greatest coaching job of all time over the last two
- 9:33seasons. I want to start there.
- 9:35I want to get to Ohio State, but I want to give Indiana all their
- 9:37flowers. This is really, really
- 9:39impressive, and it's not fluky. Yeah, they had to beat Ohio
- 9:44State. And this Ohio State team, we
- 9:47everybody knows the names. They've got Bo Jackson in the
- 9:50backfield, for goodness sake. I mean, and they're saying he's
- 9:52a freshman for some reason. This.
- 9:54Is Ultimate Team, you know, on, on NCAA, on college football, EA
- 9:59college football. But yeah, no Indiana.
- 10:01It's so weird because prior to the Oregon game this year, we're
- 10:05going to hit that nail on the head every time we're beat that
- 10:08beat the Dead horses. Yeah, before that game.
- 10:12Not to illegitimize anything, but the Big 10, as respectful as
- 10:17I can say, it is a joke. The bottom half is just, you
- 10:20know, hot dog water, as the kids say.
- 10:23So it's not, you know, very competitive.
- 10:26And if you have a pulse and if you have a good coach, which
- 10:30I'll say this, even before the Oregon game, I was like, no, no,
- 10:33no, Signetti's a great coach. I just think that Indiana is a
- 10:37fraud of the team because of they're held together with like,
- 10:41you know, stick, you know, some gum and like a rubber band and a
- 10:46paper clip. Like they're not there's no
- 10:48depth there. They'd haven't recruited.
- 10:51You know, they have a good quarterback, but outside of
- 10:54that, what do you really have? Then they beat Oregon, who
- 10:57everybody you and I both, you know, respect immensely and at
- 11:01one point were saying maybe the best team in the country the way
- 11:04they had played and they're still one of the best teams in
- 11:06the country when they beat them, immediately legitimized
- 11:09everything that Signetti had done up to that point.
- 11:12And we really had to start taking notice.
- 11:14Almost lose to a Penn State team that's a very talented team,
- 11:18come back and win that game. And then all eyes are on this
- 11:21one. Now.
- 11:23For some people, you're watching this game and it's like a punt
- 11:25fest. It's 13 to 10 as the final
- 11:28missed, you know, close field goal at the end.
- 11:31We're both teams as passionate. This isn't, you know, you come
- 11:34from watching the SEC championship where every inch
- 11:37matters. And this game is kind of like,
- 11:39you know, is more of a professional crowd, almost more
- 11:42corporate. But, you know, that being said,
- 11:44it was a good game. These two are close the whole
- 11:47time. Good coaches win games.
- 11:50Last week, Sig Nettie did. It is tough for me.
- 11:53We'll get to our playoff picks and stuff in a little while.
- 11:55It's still tough for me, man, to put respect on them, but I
- 11:59watched it with my eyes. They covered those receivers.
- 12:02They stopped them on 3rd down. They forced, you know, this
- 12:05great Ohio State team to punt. The Indiana's defense is
- 12:08legitimate. Just like you said, they play
- 12:10good team defense. I do wonder, I know this is, you
- 12:14know, Signet. He's just going to love this,
- 12:16that we're doubting him because he listens to the show.
- 12:19He does. I do wonder if you know, as
- 12:22three-year Letterman would say on Twitter, can they handle the
- 12:25grind of an SEC schedule? Could they handle playing every
- 12:28week a tough game? I do think that's where you
- 12:30would see this shine kind of rub off.
- 12:33I think the Indiana's type of team that's well coached enough
- 12:36and that can get up. They get up for every game.
- 12:38But you know, when you know that you're going to be able to
- 12:41outmatch your opponent, that's great.
- 12:45Indiana has not been, like you said, historically, one of those
- 12:48programs that can just outmatch even the lower half, the Big 10.
- 12:52So still have to be impressed by them.
- 12:54Will we be crowning them the champion come season's end?
- 12:58We'll see. With the playoff.
- 12:59They're going to have to earn it with, you know, three more
- 13:01victories. But huge, huge win in the Big 10
- 13:04championship. Ohio State, not Big 10 champions
- 13:07yet again. A position they like to be in,
- 13:10by the way. Yeah, that they're setting up
- 13:13fine for a title run. Quick mention because they're,
- 13:15you know, Duke wins the ACC Congrats to Manny Diaz for
- 13:18making and winning an ACC championship before Miami ever
- 13:21did. Miami's never made the ACC
- 13:23championship. Absolutely crazy.
- 13:25They joined the conference in what, 2003?
- 13:27Insane. They make the playoff though
- 13:28which So we'll have a chance to talk about Miami today and
- 13:31Texas. Under Mark Richt.
- 13:34No remember they they were 10 to no and lost the last two games.
- 13:37That's right, they were. Set.
- 13:40Yeah, like the last week of the season.
- 13:43That's right. Insane.
- 13:46And Texas Tech does exactly what they did to BYU the first time.
- 13:50Solidify their spot in the playoff, knockout their
- 13:52conference brethren brethren from playoff consideration, and
- 13:56get a top four seed. We broke down the Texas Tech BYU
- 13:59game the first time. Look, that game went exactly the
- 14:01way it did the first time. BYU is way over matched Texas
- 14:05Tech. This has a different caliber of
- 14:06body than the rest of the conference in the Big 12, so.
- 14:09Texas Tech, again, I mean, we kind of expected it.
- 14:13We've actually both got this pick, right?
- 14:15It was a blowout. It is what it is.
- 14:17Quarterback got hurt. I'm sorry BYU didn't make it,
- 14:20but they got beat by the one good team they played twice this
- 14:23year. So it was good run.
- 14:25Enjoy the Pop Tarts Bowl since Notre Dame is not going to be
- 14:28there either. Yeah, let's, let's just jump in
- 14:29a rankings reaction because we get the playoff field, Daniel,
- 14:33we get the I'm pulling the rankings now.
- 14:35We get the top 12 for the playoff.
- 14:37Of course, two of those were not in the top 12.
- 14:40This was, you know, you get Notre Dame at 11, they get
- 14:44knocked out. Miami moves up.
- 14:46Alabama does not move at all for getting blown out by Georgia.
- 14:49That was surprising to me. Georgia didn't.
- 14:51It seemed like the conference championships didn't affect
- 14:53anyone at all minus Ohio State, Indiana swapping, Texas Tech
- 14:56stay exactly where they were. Georgia said exactly where they
- 14:58were for a blowout win. Alabama said exactly where they
- 15:01were for a blowout loss. Well, he gets blown out.
- 15:04They were affected. Basically, it seems like they
- 15:07bumped BYU down and then were forced to finally consider head
- 15:12to head between Miami and Notre Dame.
- 15:15My reaction is they they finally got the right result.
- 15:19If I were handpicking the 12 teams giving given the current
- 15:23system and the parameters, who deserves to be the top 12?
- 15:27I think they got the final result right.
- 15:28But once again, it's like I say this every year, I have a huge
- 15:31problem with the process despite getting the right result.
- 15:34And I don't know that the answer is to do away with the weekly
- 15:37ranking show. But I think you have to because
- 15:41if you're not going to reference your previous week to week stuff
- 15:45at all, which we've said time and again on this podcast, which
- 15:47is the weekly rankings do not matter.
- 15:50They don't use the same logic now that they will use at the
- 15:53end of the season. Like Miami was 9 spots different
- 15:56than Notre Dame 4 weeks ago. You all of a sudden think them
- 16:00beating up on bad teams makes them close?
- 16:02No, it's just they got the result they needed to do.
- 16:05In the end they did the right thing.
- 16:06Miami should have never been that many spots behind Notre
- 16:08Dame. The only thing I'll say to the
- 16:11Notre Dame side Daniel is, and it sucks to suck, you lost two
- 16:14games. So again this is with expansion.
- 16:17We're going to argue over which 2, two or three lost team
- 16:20deserves to get in. It's who cares, but I do think
- 16:24this is this only second year, the 12 team playoff.
- 16:26This is the first time a team has been left out of the 12 team
- 16:29playoff that I think could have won the whole thing.
- 16:31And when we go to our next section of like which teams can
- 16:34actually win the national championship, this is a team
- 16:36that I would have had on my list of can win the whole thing.
- 16:39And they got left out. But you know where they get left
- 16:41out, Daniel, because they lost to the two best teams they
- 16:44played. They went ten and two and they
- 16:47don't have a chance to show that they're elite in the conference
- 16:49championship game. And I do think this is the first
- 16:51time Notre Dame's been punished for not being in a conference.
- 16:54The committee get the right result.
- 16:55I don't love the process still. I kind of think do away with the
- 16:59weekly rankings and think about how amazing that review would be
- 17:02on Sunday. If you actually have no idea
- 17:04which teams are locked in or not, like think about Alabama.
- 17:06If you have no idea where they are and you're like, are they in
- 17:08or are they out? And it's not like, Oh well, they
- 17:10were at 9:00 so they drop one they're at if you have no idea
- 17:15and you're like BYU, Vandy, Texas, like.
- 17:19But then I think the people who think it's all conspiracy just
- 17:22fuel their fire of the committee's doing whatever they
- 17:24want. Spoiler alert, they're doing
- 17:26whatever they want anyway. Yeah.
- 17:29It's which 12 teams can we justify the easiest?
- 17:32I think that is the formula for the playoff committee.
- 17:35I think they got it right. Hate the process, don't feel bad
- 17:38for Notre Dame, but I think they could have won the whole thing.
- 17:40There's my thoughts. I think it's very well said.
- 17:43It's it's funny because there's a college football world for the
- 17:47most part is divided on so many things.
- 17:50Yet I think that there's one thing that everybody can agree
- 17:54on is that they think that the committee is a bunch of idiots
- 17:57and that their process is wrong. They might even all and I'll say
- 18:01this, I've listened to someone that I think had, you know, Josh
- 18:06paid for another show. He was on ESPN yesterday on
- 18:11their get up show that they do in the morning.
- 18:13Jordan Rogers was on there with him.
- 18:15They're not normal guests necessarily.
- 18:17They're, you know, occasional guests.
- 18:19They had them on specifically the top college football
- 18:21rankings and they both and pay very eloquently.
- 18:25He's really good with how he sets things up.
- 18:27But he was like the exactly like you said, the problem is, is
- 18:32that across the board, if you asked like this is what should
- 18:35have been, you know, it's like, well, why are you upset?
- 18:38This is exactly what it should have been.
- 18:40It's because they lied to us for all this time.
- 18:42Like they told us the wrong process.
- 18:44They told us, you know, you really expect us to believe that
- 18:48you can't like look at Miami and Notre Dame and that head to head
- 18:53game doesn't matter until like this last week because BYU
- 18:57officially is out of the way. Like, no, you can definitely
- 19:00have done this, you know, four or five weeks ago when all the
- 19:04hay was in the barn. So I it's it's illegitimate the
- 19:08way that they do it. I think that they're purely on
- 19:12vibes until the last couple weeks and then they do what they
- 19:15have to do, which is just not a good way to do it.
- 19:18And the fact that, you know, I don't know if you saw the
- 19:22pettiness of the ACC Network, but they showed Miami's win over
- 19:26Notre Dame this whole week. So they were like, maybe this is
- 19:29the first time that the committee got to watch this
- 19:31game, but they showed it for the.
- 19:33There's a good chance that did happen all the way back in Week
- 19:351, so yeah. So that's.
- 19:38A long time ago for the committee.
- 19:40They don't start until November. The calendar turns to November.
- 19:44So it's just frustrating. You know, you and I are, you
- 19:47know, it just seems like the committee is a bunch of casuals
- 19:51and it's the most important thing you could be doing.
- 19:53And why are casual fans, which of course, these aren't fans.
- 19:57These are outside not fans. So, you know, of course you have
- 20:01the the changing of the chair in the middle of all of it.
- 20:05So all of that kind of going on, I just felt like neither chair
- 20:09gave us a good explanation. Last year's chair.
- 20:13Gave us terrible explanations on stuff.
- 20:15I don't think we've ever had a chair of the committee going
- 20:19back to 2014 that I remember feeling confident in what
- 20:24they've said. I remember usually coming away
- 20:26confused and it just gets more convoluted.
- 20:31So I just feel like there's a bunch of group think and then
- 20:34they just get something out. And then the chair gets up there
- 20:38and doesn't really have his talking points down and just
- 20:42tries to exist in the, you know, 2 minutes that he's going to be
- 20:46grilled with questions by softball, questions by Reese
- 20:49Davis, and then goes on about his merry way.
- 20:53So, you know, it's a broken system.
- 20:56It worked again, miraculously. But we'll see.
- 21:00We will see. They're going to keep doing this
- 21:02until they add 16 teams because that's the solution.
- 21:07Then we'll argue about 3 and 4 lost teams that should get in
- 21:10that are not going to win at all.
- 21:11We got a 24. It'll be four and five lost
- 21:13teams. Yeah, what a shame.
- 21:16All right? It's not a shame.
- 21:17Both. Two losses, Ohio State and
- 21:20Georgia, and their third loss, of course, on the road at
- 21:22Florida, they're eliminated and then half the teams on the
- 21:25schedule didn't have to play anything close to those teams.
- 21:28So it just seems kind of ridiculous, but.
- 21:32Once again, I don't feel bad for Texas either beat Florida, you
- 21:35know, beat Florida in your tenancy when you're in the
- 21:37playoff. Well, those two losses.
- 21:38So yeah, I we're we're arguing over mediocrity.
- 21:41Yeah. Don't fall out for Notre Dame.
- 21:43Excited to watch the Pop Tarts Bowl though, Daniel.
- 21:45Both season is still happening and Daniel, I just have
- 21:49extremely fond memories. I mean, as recent as last year
- 21:53and every year of my life before that of like being out of school
- 21:57and it being like Tuesday, December 21st and having bowl
- 22:01games on TV, like it's like 1:00 and you're like, yes, like,
- 22:05dude, the Birmingham Bowl, you know, like.
- 22:08The Capital One Bowl week. Yeah, dude.
- 22:10I mean, like the Sun Bowl and then of course, I mean, as
- 22:15college ball fans and you're fearless of this podcast, you
- 22:17probably feel the same way. Like the New Year's Eve and New
- 22:20Year's Day is what it is as far as it being the new year, but
- 22:23it's a football holiday, man. Like college football gets to
- 22:26own New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
- 22:28And those are typically when there's not just your playoff
- 22:31games and not just in New Year 6, but also like did the Citrus
- 22:35Bowl and the Gator Bowl and the Outback Bowl.
- 22:37And like these big New Year's Day bowl games were growing up a
- 22:40a fan of Georgia and an SEC team.
- 22:42It's like all three of those were an accomplishment.
- 22:44It's like you didn't get the Sugar Bowl.
- 22:46You know, if you're playing in the Outback Citrus or or Gator
- 22:49Bowl, that's a big deal. I mean, even did the Liberty
- 22:52Bowl, Music City Bowl like so I, I love bowl season, Daniel,
- 22:55we're not going to pick all these games, but how about we go
- 22:58back and forth? What's a bowl game that you're
- 23:00excited to watch this bowl season?
- 23:03Yeah, I I feel bad because we talked about conference
- 23:06championship week. I didn't mention Kennesaw State,
- 23:08so I'm mentioning. Dude, thanks.
- 23:10So that was a huge win on Friday night.
- 23:13We're jacked up about that. Yes, they were leading, they
- 23:17were controlling the game. The refs tried to steal it from
- 23:19them. They came back and scored on the
- 23:21last second. Dr. Omari Odom threw a touchdown
- 23:23in the end zone to avenge their their conference loss to
- 23:27Jacksonville State by winning the conference championship.
- 23:30So yes, naturally I am excited about the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
- 23:35The first time the state will play in a bowl game, it's going
- 23:38to be Friday, December 19th at 11 AM.
- 23:41I'll probably be working, so I'll probably be watching while
- 23:45I work because it's just a Friday at 11 AM But it's on
- 23:49ESPN. They're playing Western
- 23:50Michigan. Yeah, that's awesome.
- 23:53I love it. You shout out to the owls.
- 23:55They tried to steal it from us, Daniel, but you know that they
- 23:59couldn't take it. I want to you.
- 24:02Don't. Want to go to war with the Owls?
- 24:03That's right. I'll go to the bucked up LA
- 24:06Bowl. Daniel.
- 24:07We're calling this the Chris Peterson Bowl between Boise
- 24:10State and Washington. So just fun because it's the
- 24:13Chris Peterson Bowl and 8:00 PM on this, this is Saturday.
- 24:18It's the recording this on December 9th, December 13th.
- 24:21So if you listen to this before then, this game is Saturday at
- 24:238:00 PM on ABC. So they're getting a prime time
- 24:26slot there in Sofi Stadium. Yeah, I mean, we still have
- 24:31regular season games this Saturday.
- 24:32Technically it's Army Navy, so I don't even know if we can.
- 24:35We're not going to call that a bowl game, but I am watching
- 24:37that game on Saturday. Love it.
- 24:42All right, I had a few written down.
- 24:43I'm scrolling through here. Let's just go to the Bad Boy
- 24:46Mowers Pinstripe Bowl, we. That name gets me.
- 24:51Every I know. Me too.
- 24:53Penn State and Clemson shout out to Ben team member here at the
- 24:58extra point. He's running our social media
- 25:00marketing for the extra point go Tigers.
- 25:02Look, I mean, if you told me before the season, hey, Penn
- 25:05State and Clemson will be meeting for a post season get
- 25:08bowl game. What do you think it is?
- 25:10I would I guess I don't know like the the Peach Bowl, the
- 25:14Fiesta Bowl. Both of those are semi final
- 25:15games. Man, we got a noon on December
- 25:1927th in the Yankee Stadium in the Bad boy mowers Pinstripe
- 25:22Bowl. So I, I'm legitimately excited
- 25:24to watch it cause both teams showed effort down the stretch
- 25:28in the season and I think they'll, they'll show some
- 25:31effort in this game. So they're playing should be a
- 25:33game. That's right.
- 25:34Yeah, it's on ABC. I like that if you asked the
- 25:38people of the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl at the beginning
- 25:41of the season, hey, do you know that you'll have a chance to
- 25:44have Penn State and Clemson and they're looking and they're
- 25:48like, did we just become a New Year 6 bowl?
- 25:51That's right. Are we a?
- 25:52Playoff are we a playoff bowl are.
- 25:54We a playoff game. They would start and people are
- 25:57asking questions. So yeah, that's a great one.
- 26:00Yeah, I love that we already mentioned the Pop Tart Bowl, but
- 26:03just for our dude, shout out to our Georgia Tech listeners.
- 26:06This has been. I know how the season ended.
- 26:09There's still a way to play for pride.
- 26:11You're playing against the team that's ranked in the College
- 26:13Football Playoff top 12 in BYUBYU is coming into this game.
- 26:18They're still proud to. Play and they've lost the one
- 26:21team this season. Yeah, just lost him twice pretty
- 26:24badly. BYU is a 4 1/2 point favorite,
- 26:26at least right now. But that one's in the, you know,
- 26:29Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
- 26:30That's a fun trip, man. That's a fun trip.
- 26:33BYU people will not be able to partake in anything, but the
- 26:35George Tech people will have fun.
- 26:36But then you basically get to, you know, eat a mascot at the
- 26:40end of the game. And it's not cannibalism, it's
- 26:42just a huge pop tart. So that's awesome.
- 26:46I would love Jacob. Just really quick, since you're
- 26:50a connoisseur of, you know, uniforms and all things, you
- 26:54know, match up, would it not be awesome for the Pop Tarts bowl,
- 26:59the teams to just have special Pop Tarts branded or not branded
- 27:02but themed uniforms like, I don't know, sprinkles on their
- 27:07helmet or. The that means.
- 27:10That on there. The easiest thing would be I saw
- 27:12someone mock this up of like sprinkles inside the logo
- 27:16because that at that point you're just you're just adding
- 27:18stickers like a little. Thing.
- 27:23Yeah, because And that's easy to order, you know what I mean?
- 27:25That's not going to mess up your uniform.
- 27:26Yes, that'd be fun. That's like every team that
- 27:28plays in the Rose Bowl should add a rose in their uniform
- 27:31somewhere. You know?
- 27:32Dude, that'd be cool. Like Ohio State did, like the
- 27:34roses inside the red stripe of the helmet.
- 27:37Of course, Utah and TCU and Wisconsin, there's been a lot of
- 27:41teams who have done this. The full rose through the logo
- 27:44on the side. It looks awesome.
- 27:45Yeah, I'm all about especially just like something as simple as
- 27:48a helmet sticker to add a little spice to the uniform for the
- 27:52bowl game. Absolutely.
- 27:53I'm especially something like the Pop Tarts bowl, dude.
- 27:55Yeah, just do the sprinkles, man.
- 27:57It's awesome. They'll sell itself man.
- 27:59I mean it's a merch if that's the case.
- 28:01It's all I'm saying if they can make merch with that logo.
- 28:04I almost bought bought the Pop Tarts bowl polo last year.
- 28:07I might buy it this year because it was almost like the Robach
- 28:09look of like the print. It was just like a sprinkle.
- 28:11Polo elite pop tart. There's two bowl games.
- 28:16That get you fired up and that's one of them.
- 28:18You know, you think about like the Dukes Mayo bowl.
- 28:21I'm just kidding. No, that's.
- 28:24Why I I missed the Outback? Bowl.
- 28:25It's so fun, dude. Outback Bowl.
- 28:28I'll get out of here. They.
- 28:31Respect you. I'll add another one, the Gator
- 28:34Bowl. Virginia, Missouri.
- 28:37This is a class this. I love the Gator.
- 28:38Bowl. That one's good.
- 28:39Because it's always like the ACC 2 and this is exactly what it is
- 28:44this year. It's the ACC two against the SEC
- 28:478. It it all in like regardless
- 28:50the. Results favored by a touchdown.
- 28:52Yeah, yeah. So it's, you know, for people
- 28:56who hate people talk about the depth of conferences, you're
- 28:59going to hate bowl season. It typically is like this
- 29:01outside of like the Capital One Bowl or whatever the Citrus Bowl
- 29:04is usually like the, you know, SEC 3 versus Big 10 three,
- 29:09somewhere in there that's pretty even.
- 29:10Outback Bowl is usually about the same, but you get a few of
- 29:13these bowl games where it's like Seca versus ACC 2.
- 29:16Anyway, it always is. Can I?
- 29:17I'm looking forward to watching that one.
- 29:19Right, I've got one. It's off the radar.
- 29:22This one's not on the radar for folks.
- 29:25We got a rivalry game in a bowl game.
- 29:28Yes, yes, yes. The J Lab.
- 29:31Birmingham. That's right.
- 29:33OK, App State and Georgia Southern, OK.
- 29:36These are two hated rivals way back into their Big South
- 29:40Conference days. So Con, they've been rivals for
- 29:44a long time. They battled up in FCS.
- 29:47They were swapping championships back in the day before North
- 29:51Dakota State basically took hold of that.
- 29:53Then they both moved up to the FBS together.
- 29:56They're both in the Sunbelt. They've already played this year
- 29:59and yes, they're playing again in the Birmingham Bowl.
- 30:03This is awesome. These teams hate each other.
- 30:06App State is not qualified, but they got qualified because some
- 30:09teams did not play. So they're five and seven.
- 30:12They got the invite. They said sure, we'll come play.
- 30:15Checks notes, the Georgia Southern Eagles.
- 30:18So this was going to be awesome, man.
- 30:21George Southern favored by 2 1/2.
- 30:23I mean, if you love ball, there's going to be two teams
- 30:26that hate each other in a bowl game.
- 30:28They're going to be on vacation hating each other.
- 30:31What's better than that? I love it.
- 30:34I got two more. I'll let you mention one of
- 30:37them. If if I don't mention it, I'll
- 30:39start with the Alamo Bowl. The Alamo Bowl is always a fun
- 30:42game. It seems like I'm actually
- 30:44looking up to see, like, game history.
- 30:46I mean, the one that sticks out is that TCU comeback where Gary
- 30:51Patterson changed his polo. Was it TCU?
- 30:54Yeah, it was Oregon. It was 2016.
- 30:56It was 4741. They were down, I think they
- 31:00were down like 31 points. I'm not kidding.
- 31:02And he changes polo at half time and they come out and complete
- 31:05the comeback. One of the best games you'll
- 31:07ever watch. But I mean I'm.
- 31:08Expect fans to not be superstitious after a coach
- 31:11changes his polo and they complete the game.
- 31:14How are fans ever supposed to be like I nothing I do matters.
- 31:18It's like, no, I'm wearing the wrong socks.
- 31:20Doggone it. That's right.
- 31:24See Alamo Bowl. That'll be a good one between
- 31:26USC and TCU, you know, TCU back in the game.
- 31:30But yeah, that'll be a really fun game in the Alamo Bowl, 9:00
- 31:33PM on December 30th. So that's always a fun one and a
- 31:37fun little bowl, you know, Forever bowl venue.
- 31:39My last one is you probably were going to mention this one, but
- 31:43cheese at Citrus Bowl. Yeah, that's the one.
- 31:45Texas, Michigan, both 9:00 and 3:00, both had, you know, lofty
- 31:50expectations. You know, Texas more so than
- 31:52Michigan, both had good season, still considering and two fun
- 31:56quarterbacks that should be back next year.
- 31:59So maybe a good launching point for whoever wins.
- 32:02And this is a Citrus Bowl is a big bowl.
- 32:04So I don't care what you say, you know, with the new Year 6
- 32:07and all that kind of stuff or the playoff and everything,
- 32:09Citrus Bowl is a big bowl. It's important also in Orlando.
- 32:13So yeah, that one. Michigan, Texas.
- 32:16Yeah, give me that one every day of the week.
- 32:18I love it. All right, Daniel, we've got our
- 32:22playoff bracket. We've got 12 teams.
- 32:24I don't think all 12 teams can win the national championship.
- 32:29How many teams do you think can win the national championships
- 32:32and which ones are they? I've got 234.
- 32:38Sorry I did do this before but I changed something later. 234
- 32:465:00 I've got 5 teams. OK, I've got 4.
- 32:50I started with six and I took two off.
- 32:52We've got 4. OK.
- 32:53Yeah, I've addressed a couple times as well, OK.
- 32:56Or give me one and I'll I'll save.
- 32:57It's on my list. We'll, we'll go that way.
- 32:59OK, let's knock out the big hitters, Ohio State.
- 33:02Yes, yes. Georgia.
- 33:05Also yes. OK, I've also got Oregon.
- 33:10Yes. OK.
- 33:12And let's see if I go 4 for four here.
- 33:15Your 4th 1 is crap. Oh, Indiana.
- 33:19I do not have AS in Indiana as a team.
- 33:21I think can win the whole thing. What's your other one?
- 33:24My other one is I have Alabama. OK, Alabama was on my 6th and I
- 33:29took them off. Miami is my last one.
- 33:32Dude, that is sneaky. And I have some stuff to say
- 33:36about them as far as when we get to our picks.
- 33:38But I agree as far as I can see the vision where you're going
- 33:44with that. Let me ask you this, Daniel, we
- 33:47don't have to dive into the like Ohio State we agree on, Georgia
- 33:49we agree on Oregon we agree on I don't think it's hard to see why
- 33:53these are talented rosters. They show the you know, 2 losses
- 33:58between the three of the nut three loss from three of them.
- 34:00They show they can win championships level of coaching,
- 34:03all that stuff. Here's where I started was I
- 34:05start with a blue chip ratio, which is why I eliminated
- 34:07Indiana and Texas like it because I just I told David, I
- 34:13told David Cobb, this friend of the show CBS writer, until it
- 34:16happens, I'm not going to pick. It's like picking a 16 to be the
- 34:18one in the NCAA tournament for basketball.
- 34:21It's like, yeah, you can pick it and it's happened one time.
- 34:25But like until it happens, now it's I guess it's happened
- 34:27there, but I'm not going to pick it because now it's an
- 34:31interesting dichotomy. Now you have to win more games,
- 34:33which I would say that let's that's not going to allow non
- 34:37blue chip teams to win it because now you get a good beat
- 34:40probably three other blue chip teams.
- 34:42It lowers your percentages for sure.
- 34:45Except I do think that rosters talent is more spread out than
- 34:50it was four years ago. So does that cancel that out?
- 34:53I don't know. But I'm still I'm still in the
- 34:55camp of I am going to have to see in Indiana go and win the
- 34:59whole thing for me to have them on the list and say a non blue
- 35:02chip team can go win it all. I'm just not going to pick it
- 35:05nor am I going to believe it until I see it.
- 35:07Maybe that's on me. But that's that's my first line
- 35:10is are you a blue chip team? And that eliminated, I think
- 35:14there's 8 blue chip teams in the field.
- 35:16I then went, if you remember this, Daniel, before the season,
- 35:19I had my little formula for what makes a national champion.
- 35:22You've got to be at the end of the season, top 6 and defense on
- 35:27SP plus top 10 on offense or number one in the opposite
- 35:31category. So if you don't have a six
- 35:33defense, you've got to be the best offense in the field.
- 35:36And if you don't have a top ten offense, you've got to be the
- 35:38number one defense right now, Daniel, there are only, sorry,
- 35:44let me double check this real quick.
- 35:45There are only two schools that are in the top ten and top 6
- 35:49right now. But it's not the end of the
- 35:51year. You're going to play three more
- 35:52games. There's six teams that are
- 35:54within striking distance. One of those is Texas Tech Texas
- 35:58Tech is one of the two teams that qualify for that right now,
- 36:00but they're not a blue chip team.
- 36:01The other one's Indiana, they qualify for that right now, but
- 36:03not a blue chip team. The teams that are within
- 36:05striking distance are Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia and
- 36:07Miami. There's my 4:00 and I initially
- 36:09had Alabama and Oakland and Texas A&N on that list because
- 36:13some of my other parameters are do you have obviously a blue
- 36:16chip roster, but on the line of scrimmage, do you have the size
- 36:21and speed to go win three or four of these games?
- 36:24So Texas A and IT in Alabama were initially on my list.
- 36:28But like Alabama's offense, Daniel makes 26th MSP, plus
- 36:32they're not in striking distance of historically what has made-up
- 36:36a national championship contender.
- 36:38Same thing with Texas A&M, their defense is 21st, so they're not
- 36:42in striking distance of having a top 6 defense.
- 36:46So those are teams that like on eye test, I just wrote down
- 36:48those six. I eliminated Alabama and Texas
- 36:51Santa because of that and I'm left with those four.
- 36:54Miami is my sneaky one. We'll we'll get to them, but at
- 36:57their peak they've shown they can do it.
- 36:59Now do I really think they can be at their peak for the full
- 37:02playoff? We'll get to my picks, but I
- 37:06wouldn't, you know, I wouldn't be like shocked, shocked if they
- 37:08wanted. I'll be surprised.
- 37:10I will say if you gave me the top 4 seeds versus the field, I
- 37:13would take the top 4 seeds versus the field.
- 37:15Yeah, that's fair. What I mean, you get Georgia and
- 37:19Ohio State in that. In Indiana, if you really
- 37:21believe the best team in the country which they played like
- 37:23it, you get Indiana too. That is true, yeah.
- 37:26For me, I mean, you know, similar, but I, you know, I just
- 37:30for Indiana purposes, I feel like Indiana and Alabama both
- 37:35have that, you know, from the the side of the bracket that
- 37:39they're coming. I think certain matchups could
- 37:41work out for both of them. I just think Ohio State,
- 37:46Georgia, of course, we don't have to argue those.
- 37:48Oregon, you know, these teams have been resting.
- 37:52I'm I'm curious how the teams that haven't had to play
- 37:55championship games are going to pan out.
- 37:58So I'm interested to see like Oregon and Texas A&M and how
- 38:01those teams will, you know, show up on, you know, their that week
- 38:061 or, excuse me, the first round, not week 1.
- 38:08But yeah, I, I don't think that there's I Miami, I'll say this
- 38:13for Miami, a team that thought they were dead, being
- 38:18resurrected. There's something about a second
- 38:21chance at life. So Miami knowing that they've
- 38:24got a second chance that, you know, think about BYU, Notre
- 38:28Dame, Miami, they're all saying just give us a shot.
- 38:31Think about Vanderbilt. They're trying to play a game
- 38:34last weekend. Give us a shot and let us show
- 38:37you what we can do. If Miami was in the ACC
- 38:40championship, they would have pummeled either one of those
- 38:42teams. They would have pummeled them.
- 38:43We think we we think, I think that given the opportunity,
- 38:48Miami, I mean, just looking at what they did to Pittsburgh kind
- 38:51of gives me that vibe of like, Nah, they're they're ready.
- 38:55Like they're trending back up for the playoff.
- 38:58And I think they're a tough draw.
- 38:59That's a tough like Ohio State being the two seed, I think is
- 39:03actually worse than being the three seed because they're going
- 39:05to either play Texas A&M or Miami and I think they're going
- 39:07to play Miami. And I think that like you're,
- 39:09you're right, that is a tough one.
- 39:11I yeah, I was back and forth on Miami, so put me down for for
- 39:15Miami as well. How about that?
- 39:17All right, Daniel, let's get to picks against the spread.
- 39:21We've got our first four games, got our first round on college
- 39:25campuses, which is a lot of fun. And we have two rematches in the
- 39:28first round, which, hey, I will say credit to the committee for
- 39:30saying they're not going to consider rematches when they're
- 39:33making the rankings because I thought for sure, oh, they're
- 39:36going to say that. But you know, they'll do a
- 39:37little. We have Alabama at 9 and Miami
- 39:40at 10. We'll just move those to avoid a
- 39:42rematch. You know, not a huge difference.
- 39:45They they didn't, we got 2 rematches in the first round.
- 39:48Let's start with one of them, Oklahoma versus Alabama.
- 39:51Oklahoma one round one in Tuscaloosa.
- 39:53We get round two in Norman, Alabama 1 1/2 point favorite on
- 39:58the road in Norman. You might ask how could this be?
- 40:01If you look at how that first game played out, I mean.
- 40:03But Ellie said this right after the game of Alabama would be
- 40:05favored by moreover Oklahoma than they were yesterday and
- 40:08doubled them up in yardage. Turnovers are considered a
- 40:11random stat. I would argue for these elite
- 40:14defenses. They create way more
- 40:15opportunities for turnovers and Oklahoma's is one of those that
- 40:18does that and capitalizes. But Alabama 1 1/2 point
- 40:22favorite. First round of the playoff, they
- 40:24get their chance still Oklahoma gets a chance to show the
- 40:27defence wins championships. Man.
- 40:29Who do you like in this first game in Norman?
- 40:30And for the record, we are picking against the spread, so
- 40:33give me your pick. But we are picking against the
- 40:35spread for for this. Yes, so Kaylin Bohr went to so
- 40:40far in his young Alabama career against Oklahoma.
- 40:45Both of them seemed like pretty big upsets, last year's
- 40:48especially because that one was an Oklahoma team that really
- 40:51wasn't going anywhere. That one was at least in Norman
- 40:54where it was like, OK, it's tough to go on the road this
- 40:57year. Alabama losing at home to
- 41:00Oklahoma was surprising. I think I did pick that game
- 41:02correctly, but you were on the right side of it because like
- 41:06you said, Alabama just doubled them up.
- 41:08And really you look at the post game win expectancy, Oklahoma
- 41:12stole that game. That was one that they should
- 41:15not quote UN quote should not have one.
- 41:17I do think Alabama is the better team.
- 41:19I get really worried offensively for Oklahoma.
- 41:23I feel like they're, you know, so taking their bust.
- 41:26If he has a big game, great. You know, if he scores 2
- 41:30touchdowns, awesome. He's got 7 touchdowns on the
- 41:32year. Just drive 1000 yards.
- 41:35He he's got half the production For John Matier.
- 41:38The offense has just, you know, I know Matier was injured for a
- 41:41little bit. He seemed like he was getting
- 41:43better as the year went on. As far as recovering from the
- 41:46injury, the 10 interceptions, I mean, he missed the game was a
- 41:50two. He missed one game it.
- 41:53Was one or two, yeah. So a game and a half, we'll say
- 41:57whatever. 10 interceptions for a full 12 game season though is
- 42:01still a ton. 10 interceptions, man, that really worries me.
- 42:05They don't really have a running game.
- 42:06The good news for them is they're going against Alabama,
- 42:08team that doesn't really have a great running game.
- 42:09Of course, they're coming off their -3 yards against Georgia,
- 42:12the SEC championship. Jim Miller's been hurt for
- 42:16multiple stints this year. It's unclear whether he'll be
- 42:19back for this. Of course, it's not, you know, a
- 42:22month off. It's just like a, you know, a
- 42:24bye week essentially, and then they're back at it.
- 42:27We'll see, though. I just the thing I trust most.
- 42:31I think Caitlin De Boer can get it done as a coach.
- 42:34I think Alabama has a better roster and when it comes down to
- 42:39it, I think Ty Simpson will make more plays than John Metier and
- 42:42he'll take care of the ball. If I'm adding all of that up,
- 42:46it's got me at an Alabama win on the road.
- 42:49I also think there's something to be said about playing a team
- 42:52twice and knowing that you had one stolen from you the first
- 42:55time and being able to go right that wrong.
- 42:58I think that would be really big.
- 43:00And it's a big point of, you know, encouragement, you know,
- 43:04for the for the Alabama team. I think a lot of those players
- 43:08can get motivated for this game. Not that you're not going to be
- 43:11motivated for a playoff game, but there's something personal
- 43:14about it. So these rematches have
- 43:15something to say. Give me Alabama.
- 43:17Let me lay this 1 1/2 points. I think they went close.
- 43:20I think it's a four to six point game.
- 43:23But yeah, give me the tide in the game and covering with the 1
- 43:271/2 point spread. I'm with you.
- 43:29Give me the tide to win and it's 1 1/2.
- 43:31I think they cover too. The best unit on the field is
- 43:34Oklahoma's defense. And we kind of said this going
- 43:36to the Georgia game of Alabama's run game is not going to make a
- 43:39difference in this, in that Oklahoma can stop the run, but
- 43:43Alabama's not been trying to run the ball a year.
- 43:44They just it's just kind of a mute point at this point.
- 43:47If they get a run game back, that's very good.
- 43:49But I am banking on Alabama getting a little healthier in
- 43:53the next couple weeks, which we've got a couple weeks before
- 43:55this. But sounds like they're going to
- 43:57get Cuevas back. Sounds like they're going to get
- 43:59Jim Miller back. Ty Simpson will have a few weeks
- 44:02to recover. I mean, Brailsford's been
- 44:04playing her on the offensive line.
- 44:07They're beat up. They need to get healthy and
- 44:08fast. And I also think giving Kaylin
- 44:10de Boer extra time to prep for a rematch.
- 44:14Kaylin de Boer and Ryan Grubb, I think they can, but we'll see.
- 44:18I think they can outcome. They I think they can scheme
- 44:20some points up against Oklahoma's defense.
- 44:23They've got to fix Reds red zone scoring.
- 44:26I mean, they, they doubled up Oklahoma in the yards in round
- 44:29one. The three turnovers killed them.
- 44:32It it can absolutely go that way.
- 44:33I mean, Oklahoma credited them opportunistic like all their
- 44:36scoring drives are very short. They had short fields because of
- 44:39turnovers. Again, I I'm a stat nerd.
- 44:41Turnover. There is a bit of rain in the
- 44:43turnovers and I'm just going to count on the game playing out
- 44:47very similar to what it did the first time.
- 44:49I like Alabama to win 20 to 13 in this one.
- 44:53So give me Alabama in a low scoring game tied over Oklahoma,
- 44:57which will be the first Rd. team to win.
- 45:01I believe the home teams at four and a yeah.
- 45:02Penn State. No Penn State didn't have a home
- 45:05game, it was Notre Dame. Ohio State.
- 45:09Who else had a home game last year was in Oregon?
- 45:12Notre Dame, Ohio. State.
- 45:15SMU, Texas. Texas.
- 45:18It was Penn State then. Penn State and Clemson played at
- 45:21Texas. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:23OK, OK. Yeah, yeah, that's right.
- 45:24Boise State had a first round bye.
- 45:25Wow. That was Penn State.
- 45:26OK. And then Clemson we.
- 45:27Didn't mention that, but this year that would put that would
- 45:30have put Tulane having a first round bye.
- 45:32They didn't change that, so it. Would have put Ohio State the 5C
- 45:36playing James Madison around 1 and Tulane in Round 2 again.
- 45:40This is why they good change after one year because then
- 45:43people would be doing the math and going huh, so the five seed.
- 45:49Right. OK, Daniel, let's go to Texas AM
- 45:55in Miami. This is this matchup's a lot of
- 45:58fun because these teams line up very similar.
- 46:01If you look at the build up of these teams, the makeup's very
- 46:04similar. The coaching Staffs are very
- 46:06similar as far as what they want to do in the style of play.
- 46:08They want to have Texas A and it a four point favorite at home
- 46:14against Miami. Who do you like in this game in
- 46:16College Station? Yeah, I think sometimes we're
- 46:19just victims of recency bias. I think that's, you know, me,
- 46:23absolutely. A lot of times this game, just
- 46:28the vibe of it just feels, you know, I mentioned earlier my
- 46:31point about Miami, like they were a team that was dead and
- 46:36now they're back to life. There's got to be some sense of
- 46:40renewed faith. You know, I just harped on John
- 46:43Metier having 10 interceptions. How about two quarterbacks with
- 46:4610 interceptions? Now Carson Beck and Marcel Reed
- 46:50are going toe to toe. So I do think this game will
- 46:53have turnovers. I think that defense is going to
- 46:55matter in this game. I like both defenses.
- 46:59I think that Miami has a better defensive front.
- 47:02They've got some dudes that are going to be in the NFL.
- 47:04That being said, I mean, this one's, this was very fun.
- 47:07I kind of, I mean, the vibes of the last game, obviously Texas
- 47:13A&M losing to Texas, you know, at Texas, that's a tough one.
- 47:18And then Miami going to Pitt and throttling Pitt.
- 47:24Pitt playing for a spot in the ACC Championship.
- 47:28Pitt trying to win the game, according to Pat and Artuzzi.
- 47:31Pitt trying to go to the ACC Championship and have a spot
- 47:34potentially at the playoff. Miami, I mean, that game was
- 47:39never close. They had their hand on their
- 47:42head the whole time and they just completely dominated them.
- 47:45Dominated, you know, their last several games at, you know,
- 47:48Virginia Tech, North Carolina State, Syracuse, they lost SMU
- 47:53in overtime. So, you know, it is what it is.
- 47:56That was tough. If they didn't do that, then
- 47:59they would have obviously been in the ACC championship.
- 48:01We wouldn't had all this craziness going on.
- 48:05I mean, just the way the game, the season ended for both of
- 48:07these teams. I just think there's going to
- 48:10there's this you need if they if Texanem uses at motivation,
- 48:16great. I just think they were kind of a
- 48:18flawed team. It kind of got exposed by Texas
- 48:22and I think that Miami was like kind of realizing some of their
- 48:26potential at the end of the year.
- 48:28It can work opposite of that. A&M gets motivated from their
- 48:30loss. They could actually go out there
- 48:32and and beat Miami. I'm not feeling that.
- 48:35I think Miami wins outright. They get 4 points, so I'm going
- 48:38to take the four points, but I think Miami wins this game by 4
- 48:41points. I think it's like a, you know,
- 48:443531 kind of a game down the stretch with some big
- 48:47situational defense at the end. I said give me the Hurricanes
- 48:50plus the. Four, we're going to get 2 for
- 48:52two, give me Miami. If you look at the profile of
- 48:54these teams like OK, EPA per rush, Miami's offense against
- 48:59Tex. A&M's defense 26th versus 25th
- 49:01very even EPA per drop back Miami offense 10th, Tex A&M
- 49:05defense eighth, other side of the ball, Miami's defense 7th
- 49:09and EPA per rush Tex. A&M's offense 7th.
- 49:12EPA per rush, EPA per drop back, Miami's defense 12th, Tex A&M is
- 49:16offense 14th. They just they line up that
- 49:19strength on strength across the board, weakness on weakness
- 49:22across the board, but not really a weakness with either of these
- 49:24teams. It's it's very relative.
- 49:26These are two very good football teams.
- 49:27I mean, I, I know I said my daddy teams, but they know this
- 49:29seems like an elimination game between two teams that can win
- 49:31the national championship. It's in College Station, but
- 49:35give me Miami. I think they've got a few more
- 49:36difference makers that I think can change the game, like Texas
- 49:39A&M has Casey Concepcion, Miami, If if they get good.
- 49:43Carson Beck, when he's dialed in, he's lethal.
- 49:46I'm going to forget the the name of the receiver now #10 is it
- 49:51Tony? Yeah, the fresh, yeah, yeah.
- 49:53I'm like, I'm going to he, he is a different Tony Malachi.
- 49:56Tony, thank you. I'm like Cadarius Tony's.
- 49:58And I was like, I know that's not right, but I'm pretty sure
- 50:00that's not it. I was.
- 50:01Like it's not it. He's almost got 1000.
- 50:02Yards for the year, yeah. He's had a big year.
- 50:05And I think I mean Ruben Bayne on defense, you get in the red
- 50:08zone again. This is the one like Texas A&M
- 50:12as far as points in the red zone could be better, and then
- 50:15they're giving up a lot of touchdowns in the red zone on
- 50:17the other side of the ball. So I do think this is a close
- 50:19game. Give me 2724 Miami to win
- 50:22outright. I get 4 points.
- 50:24So I think they cover, but I think they won the game outright
- 50:26in College Station. That's just we picked 2 road
- 50:29teams, which didn't happen last year, Daniel.
- 50:30So you and I in lockstep, all right, I don't think either of
- 50:35us are going to pick underdogs to win straight up in this one.
- 50:37So we'll pick against the spread here.
- 50:38Like what's not pretend, man? Ole Miss, first Tulane, we
- 50:41watched this game. It was 4510 early in the year.
- 50:44Now neither one have a head cut. Well, I know technically Ole
- 50:47Miss has a head coach. Ole Miss is 16 1/2, my favorite
- 50:50at home after a 35 point blowout.
- 50:53Who do you like in this game in Oxford Ms. Yeah, man, I there's
- 50:58a lot of layers to this because of what's happened with the
- 51:02coaches. If both teams just had their
- 51:05full complement and the coaches and everything like that.
- 51:08I actually I'm picking Tulane to cover all miss to win.
- 51:13I think that there's like Tulane has a good team.
- 51:16I've been picking them all year. I didn't pick them the last
- 51:18week. I should have that they they
- 51:22had, you know, Rets laugh at QB. He's a dual threat.
- 51:27He's got 16 touchdowns rushing this year.
- 51:31I mean, I did say that, right? 16 touchdowns rushing, 14
- 51:35through the air. So 30 touchdowns.
- 51:36I mean, nobody's, you know, not not that he should be in the
- 51:39Heisman necessarily, but I mean, my goodness, he's a playoff
- 51:43team. He's got, you know, 3500 yards
- 51:46total and 30 touchdowns. Like this guy can play ball.
- 51:50He's had a Goodyear. He's kept them in in these
- 51:53games. Ole Miss is just better.
- 51:55They're going to be better. I think you see an inspired Ole
- 51:59Miss team in the face of all of this stuff.
- 52:03They're playing at home, Vaught Hemingway.
- 52:06I think you're going to see them come out and really try to
- 52:10emphatically answer that they're meant for the playoffs.
- 52:13Even without Lane Kiffin, you're going to see these players play
- 52:16their hardest. I was really worried that they
- 52:18weren't going to have any offensive coaches.
- 52:20The fact that Charlie Wise junior coming back is I can't
- 52:24like, that's just monumental him being able to come back and
- 52:27coach just so that they don't have grad assistance trying to
- 52:31call offensive game plans or they're bringing in someone from
- 52:35outside. It's a familiar face, familiar
- 52:38with the style, familiar with Trinidad Chambliss, familiar
- 52:41with Kyron Lacey, like Kiwan Lacey, excuse me, I think that
- 52:45that's huge. So give me Ole Miss.
- 52:48Let's lay these points to 16 1/2.
- 52:51I think it's a big blowout win for new permanent head coach
- 52:55Pete Goulding and I think they they get an emphatic first round
- 52:58win at home. This is my first home team I'm
- 53:01picking. Give me the Rebels.
- 53:03I'm with you, give me the rebels to win and cover to then also I
- 53:06think Lane put out yesterday. The rest of the offensive staff
- 53:09is all that left for. LSU is also coming back to coach
- 53:11the playoff minus Lane. So they get everybody back
- 53:13coaching staff wise, yeah, if they play their game.
- 53:16And again, they they got the they've had a couple weeks off.
- 53:20I think in this kind of game, you need to win like 16 1/2.
- 53:24You need to win and cover to get the rhythm to go play Georgia
- 53:26again. So I don't think you're going to
- 53:28be like a let's set our players in the four.
- 53:31Like maybe if you're up 35 late, but I think if it's within 17,
- 53:36you're keeping your starters in and like getting more rhythm to
- 53:39go and get ready to play Georgia next week.
- 53:42So I like how many. Times Do you think these teams
- 53:44have played each other? In my head, I think it's a lot
- 53:47because Tulane needs to be in the SEC and they're very close
- 53:50geographically. I would guess at least 40 times.
- 53:5370 times. Wow.
- 53:55OK, I was like, I don't know if this is that high, but.
- 53:57It's a big time this is a rivalry back in the old days
- 54:01first matchup 1893 wow, just just throw that in there.
- 54:07These these players have no idea about that.
- 54:09But some of these fans, you know, this is a geographically
- 54:13close. The winner of this gets to play
- 54:15in the Sugar Bowl. Tulane would be a home game.
- 54:18Ole Miss can be very close. So keep that kind of stuff in
- 54:21mind, Dude, for the pageantry that they're stripping away from
- 54:24the game. This is an old rivalry.
- 54:26Ole Miss should kill him. Old rivalry.
- 54:28And Ole Miss does own the all time record, 44 to 28.
- 54:32So they're on a current 13 game-winning streak.
- 54:34But yeah, this is old SEC rivalry.
- 54:36I've got some, you know, love for that and yeah, it's going to
- 54:40be fun. I think these fans are going to
- 54:41have fun with it. I think you're going to see a
- 54:42good amount of Two Lane fans at about him in the stadium as
- 54:45well. But yeah, Ole Miss dude lay
- 54:47those points. I'm with you there.
- 54:49We're 3 for three. Let's see if we go 4 for four.
- 54:51Ole Miss and James Madison. James Madison, a 20 1/2 point
- 54:57underdog on the excuse me, I thought I said Ole Miss thought
- 55:00I said Oregon. He did Oregon first.
- 55:02James Madison starting to sever. I was about to say Eugene and I
- 55:05was like, it doesn't make any sense.
- 55:07Let's start over Oregon. That's right, Oregon and James
- 55:12Madison. Oregon, a 20 1/2 point favorite.
- 55:15They get the five seed this year.
- 55:18You know, seeding might have streamed them last year, but
- 55:20hey, they get this home game against James Madison after
- 55:23going 11 and one only lost to Indiana.
- 55:25James Madison wins the Sunbelt. They get the pleasure of
- 55:28traveling across the country. Eugene gets a home game, 20 1/2
- 55:31point line. Daniel, are you picking a cover
- 55:34in this one? I'm assuming you're picking
- 55:35Oregon to win. Who are you picking the cover
- 55:37between Oregon and James Madison?
- 55:39Yeah, another coach that's leaving Bob Chesney, I mean, is
- 55:42James Madison the kingmaker. Signetti goes to Indiana now.
- 55:46You got Chesney about to leave. I mean, this is a great job.
- 55:50You would say they're not throwing away their shot.
- 55:52I definitely think that I I did Alexander Hamilton for James
- 55:56Madison. That was definitely a a reach.
- 56:00Oregon, though, is Dante Moore for Oregon.
- 56:05You and I both said at the beginning of the year, we
- 56:08thought we were, you know, setting the trend by saying
- 56:11Dante Moore, Heisman contender early in the year.
- 56:15We felt really good about it 'cause he had a couple really
- 56:17good games and then just kind of fell off the off the radar.
- 56:21I think people are forgetting how good he is.
- 56:23He is going to show up in this game and I think it's going to
- 56:27be a nice reminder for everybody that Oregon is one of those
- 56:31teams. Just because they lost Indiana
- 56:33doesn't mean that they're not going to be ready for the
- 56:36international championship push. This is the spot that you know
- 56:40is a prime spot to be in. 20 1/2 points.
- 56:45It's a lot, but you've got a head coach on the other side
- 56:48who's not one foot out the door. But he's going to give his best
- 56:51effort. But he knows what the deal is.
- 56:54He's about to go to his new his new job.
- 56:57And then Oregon, they've got their sights set on the national
- 57:00championship two different ways. They're trending 20 1/2.
- 57:04That's that's important. All I need is a three touchdown
- 57:07victory to get this cover. I think that Oregon does that
- 57:11handily. So give me the Ducks, lay the
- 57:14points. Let's just do this thing.
- 57:16Austin Stadium is going to be rocking for a playoff home game.
- 57:21Yeah, man, lay the points here. I like Oregon to win like 4113.
- 57:25I just, I don't think this is going to be very close to James
- 57:28Madison is severely outmatched. I think Oregon will put up
- 57:31however many points they want to put up on offense.
- 57:34I don't know how many James Madison's going to score.
- 57:36It's 20 1/2. I think it's at least a three
- 57:38touchdown game. This is like James Madison, but
- 57:41Elliot mentioned this. They might have, they might set
- 57:43the record for worst ever, shrink their schedule to make
- 57:46the College Football Playoff. Their shrink the schedule was
- 57:48123rd in the country. They've played no one like this.
- 57:52They've not seen bodies like this.
- 57:53It's hard to prep for that when you haven't seen it.
- 57:57Everybody's got a plan. So they get punched in the
- 57:58mouth. I think James Madison's going to
- 58:00get punched in the mouth again and again and again.
- 58:02Give me Oregon big in round one and get them prepped to go go
- 58:07face off against Texas Tech in the quarters.
- 58:11Daniel, let's let's get to our brackets.
- 58:14Let's start. We already have a round one
- 58:17games. You and I both have Oregon over
- 58:19James Madison, AL over Oklahoma almost over 2 lane Miami over
- 58:24Texas A&M. So we're in lockstep there.
- 58:27Let's start with and I believe is the Cotton Bowl.
- 58:29Texas Tech, they get the cotton. I'm going to look it up but.
- 58:34No, it's the Orange Bowl for. Texas Orange Bowl.
- 58:36That's right. So Texas Tech hosting Oregon in
- 58:40the Orange Bowl, who you got in that match up since we got the
- 58:44same match up there, right? Yeah, I've so good.
- 58:48I've got Oregon, so that's, you know, for me, it's clean and
- 58:51simple. I think you're going to have a
- 58:53team that's being able to be hot because they just played.
- 58:56And then I also just think Oregon's better.
- 58:59You know, it may be closer. I'm excited to see what the line
- 59:01is whenever that gets revealed. But I've got Oregon straight up.
- 59:06All right, I do as well coming Oregon in that game.
- 59:08So this is my challenge with Texas Tech is I think their
- 59:12defense is very good, very good. And I think they've got
- 59:15athletes. What's the best not what's the
- 59:18best offense they play. What's the best defense Texas
- 59:20Tech has played? Because I don't think they're
- 59:21they're, you know, they they've beaten them ready by 20 points
- 59:23minus the game they lost without the starting quarterback.
- 59:26But what's the best defense they've played statistically,
- 59:28like SE plus or? Like what number or what team?
- 59:32Or what team? What team?
- 59:33The best? The Texas Tech is faced.
- 59:36Texas Tech is faced, man. Did they play Iowa State?
- 59:42No, but it's it's, it's BYU. At BYU, they beat him twice,
- 59:45ranks 23rd on SU. Plus your defense I think is
- 59:48going to play with anybody. I wonder about what their
- 59:49offense are going to do against a defense like Oregon's a top
- 59:52five defense. We'll we'll get to the rest of
- 59:55the thing. But I'm with you.
- 59:56Give me Oregon over Texas Tech. We've both got Alabama versus
- 1:00:00Indiana in the Rose Bowl. Who do you like in that game,
- 1:00:04Daniel? Signetti against his former
- 1:00:07employer Alabama. Not Nick Saban, but Alabama.
- 1:00:11Signetti talked a big game early in the year about the SEC.
- 1:00:17He also has backed up everything that he's done so far because
- 1:00:21they're undefeated. He's a guy that doesn't run from
- 1:00:23those kinds of things. This game, I'll just be straight
- 1:00:26up with you. I really don't know, but if I
- 1:00:29think that Alabama is going to win their first round game, then
- 1:00:33I think that the vibes will be up for the Tide.
- 1:00:36And I kind of think that mentally they could break the
- 1:00:41other team across the field from them.
- 1:00:43They are more talented, severely more talented as well.
- 1:00:45I've got Alabama in that game. Give me Indiana.
- 1:00:48Give me Indiana. I I've seen Alabama enough to
- 1:00:52know they can beat Oklahoma. Look, I'm trying to trust my
- 1:00:55eyes here. Daniel Indiana's wouldn't beat
- 1:00:56Ohio State. Straight up not fluky beat
- 1:00:58Oregon on the road. I think they can beat Alabama in
- 1:01:01on a neutral site on some nice grass in the Rose Bowl and give
- 1:01:04me, give me Indiana. They've looked like a top two
- 1:01:05team all year, Georgia and Ole Miss.
- 1:01:08I've got the dogs. Who you got?
- 1:01:11Yeah, rinse, repeat. I think this is where not having
- 1:01:14Lane Kiffin shows up. Yeah.
- 1:01:18For them, and I think it's just as simple as that, you know,
- 1:01:21rematch game. But I think George's defense is
- 1:01:23so much further along. And if you're telling me you
- 1:01:25don't have lane for the offense to continue humming, then it is
- 1:01:29what it is. Georgia's very physical and
- 1:01:31they're just going to they're just going to overpower them at
- 1:01:34this point. Yeah, I'm with you there.
- 1:01:38I've got Ohio State over Miami. How do you like in that quarter
- 1:01:42final match up? Yeah, same for me, keeping it
- 1:01:44simple. I do.
- 1:01:45I think Miami's got plenty of, you know, ability.
- 1:01:49That's one where I could see them dropping, you know, being a
- 1:01:52big upset. But yeah, Ohio State, they're
- 1:01:55may be the best team out there. So we'll see.
- 1:01:58All right, I've got Oregon and Indiana in one of my semi finals
- 1:02:01and that'll be the Peach Bowl. This is where I say I got to I
- 1:02:04got to I got to see it to believe it.
- 1:02:06Give me Oregon over Indiana in the rematch.
- 1:02:09Oregon's got better bodies going to do this multiple times.
- 1:02:11I would not be surprised to see Indiana win this game and find
- 1:02:14themselves in the national championship.
- 1:02:15I wouldn't I'd be surprised if they won the whole thing, but it
- 1:02:20it's hard for me to look at these rosters and pick Indiana.
- 1:02:22It's just I'm I'm just I'm showing my bias.
- 1:02:24I'm a tie about I'm a talent bias person.
- 1:02:27It's hard for me to look at these rosters and trust that
- 1:02:28Indiana's going to go do it again.
- 1:02:31Give me org over Indiana in that semi final game.
- 1:02:34You've got Alabama. Excuse me, you've got Oregon and
- 1:02:37Alabama in this one in the Peach Bowl.
- 1:02:39Who do you like there? A rivalry renewed Caitlyn de
- 1:02:42Boer versus Dan Lanning. That's right.
- 1:02:44They had had plenty of Kaitlyn de Boer when he was at
- 1:02:49Washington. He was like, hey, I'm good,
- 1:02:51y'all get out of here, please. That being said, I think Landon
- 1:02:57gets his revenge here. I think that he's got the team
- 1:03:00that is better and more suited for this spot.
- 1:03:02And so I think this is where Oregon would beat Alabama.
- 1:03:06There'd be enough for Dan Laning to overtake Kaitlyn de Boer.
- 1:03:09There's a little bit of, you know, spice to this rivalry for
- 1:03:13coaches. So give me Oregon over Alabama.
- 1:03:16All right, Daniel, Fiesta Bowl, Georgia and Ohio State.
- 1:03:20They put a classic in the Peach Bowl a couple years ago.
- 1:03:23This is the game I had the hardest time with.
- 1:03:26I'll save another comment about that for a second, but I said a
- 1:03:28few weeks ago, I'm picking Ohio State to win it all.
- 1:03:30That just is what it is there. They've looked like the best
- 1:03:33team all year. And if you ask me the question,
- 1:03:35how many teams can win the natty?
- 1:03:36A few weeks ago, I would have said it depends.
- 1:03:38Does Ohio State look mortal before the season ends because
- 1:03:43if not, I think it's 1. Ohio State not only looked
- 1:03:46mortal, they got beat that opened the door for I think 4.
- 1:03:51Give me Georgia over Ohio State, Daniel.
- 1:03:53This team's trending in the right direction.
- 1:03:55The the defense is what has changed my mind on Georgia to,
- 1:03:59you know, potential to make it this far at least is I think
- 1:04:02Georgia's defense can physically match Ohio State.
- 1:04:05And if they can get pressure with four, those young corners
- 1:04:08have come along. I'm very excited to see, you
- 1:04:10know, if you're a college football go like we are.
- 1:04:16You saw the videos of the seven on seven stuff between Jeremiah
- 1:04:19Smith and Ellis Robinson and potentially get that in this
- 1:04:22game. You know #1 Rider Seaver number
- 1:04:24#1 corner of that class. George got the DB.
- 1:04:27Is that just like Indiana? They could potentially keep them
- 1:04:31in check depending on the game plan for Ohio State.
- 1:04:33Give me Give me the dogs over Ohio State and SME should be
- 1:04:35another classic if we get it. Yeah, I love that this is a
- 1:04:40rematch from a couple years ago where it was.
- 1:04:43It's also again a semi final and not the national championship.
- 1:04:46When you kind of feel like these may be the two best teams in the
- 1:04:49field. And you know, I I think you're
- 1:04:52going to you're going to see physicality show up.
- 1:04:55I think you're going to see like the mindset of their head coach.
- 1:04:59You're going to see, you know, Ryan Day is is free from his
- 1:05:02demons. He won his national championship
- 1:05:04last year. And beat Michigan.
- 1:05:06And he beat Michigan this year. But you also see, so Kirby has,
- 1:05:10you know, obviously won his championships and he beat Bama
- 1:05:12previously. But beating Alabama, I think is
- 1:05:15going to have Georgia very loose in this playoff.
- 1:05:18And I really like how they're going to be down the stretch.
- 1:05:21So I've also got the dogs. I'm covering up my Georgia
- 1:05:23patch. They are a kind of a dog's
- 1:05:25podcast. Right now we're both picking the
- 1:05:27dogs over Ohio State and I think we have the same national
- 1:05:32championship game. We do.
- 1:05:33We work at George and Oregon. Give me the dogs.
- 1:05:37If they're getting hot at the this is this.
- 1:05:39Ohio State last year is the blueprint.
- 1:05:40I think right of can you get healthy and hot at the right
- 1:05:45time with a roster that is good enough to win it all?
- 1:05:49Isn't that what life is all about?
- 1:05:51Being hot and healthy? All right, that's all we're
- 1:05:53trying to do. And especially true for these
- 1:05:56college football teams. Oregon is a team that if if I'm
- 1:05:59just like without knowing anything about next year, that
- 1:06:02I'm just like, man, Oregon might be my daddy pick for next year.
- 1:06:05If I'm just thinking about it. I think they're a year off.
- 1:06:08I think Georgia has put the puzzle pieces together.
- 1:06:11I could be wrong, but what I was going to say is Daniel, that's
- 1:06:14the semi final game between George and Ohio State does feel
- 1:06:16like the best two teams in the field.
- 1:06:18Yeah. And that's again, I think
- 1:06:20Indiana's looked like a top two team all season.
- 1:06:23I'm going to have to see it to believe it.
- 1:06:25I'm to show my bias there. I think Ohio State and George
- 1:06:27are the best two teams in the field.
- 1:06:29That feels like the natty. I think the, I think the winner
- 1:06:31of that game wins the national championship.
- 1:06:34And I'm betting on us getting that game.
- 1:06:36So that's where my head's at is the winner of that game wins it.
- 1:06:38All right now I'm picking Georgia.
- 1:06:41Who you got? Yeah, I mean, I'm definitely not
- 1:06:45going to rain on anybody's parade.
- 1:06:46This is AI. Keep talking about matchups
- 1:06:49because that's kind of you got to think about.
- 1:06:51I'm talking about coaching matchups specifically.
- 1:06:53But Kirby Smart versus Dan Lanning, if there's been
- 1:06:59obviously history there landing on Kirby staff previously, but
- 1:07:03they've also played, you know, gone against each other's head
- 1:07:05coaches. Of course it was right at the
- 1:07:07beginning of Landings head coaching tenure.
- 1:07:09That being said, there is something to that of the master
- 1:07:12and The Apprentice you saw that was Smart and was Sabin.
- 1:07:14And there's a certain level of comfort I think that Kirby Smart
- 1:07:19in Georgia would have with playing a team like Oregon
- 1:07:22because I feel like they would know who they're up against.
- 1:07:25I think it'd be a very physical national championship.
- 1:07:27But I agree with you. Ohio State and Georgia I think
- 1:07:30are the two best teams in the field.
- 1:07:31They play in the semi finals. So whoever emerges from that
- 1:07:36group, I think wins the national championship.
- 1:07:39So in this case, it's the dogs. So give me the dogs over the
- 1:07:42ducks for the national championship.
- 1:07:45I don't think this will decide the title, but something to keep
- 1:07:48an eye on. How many of these playoff teams
- 1:07:51have coaches, especially coordinators that are taking
- 1:07:53other jobs? Ohio State's offensive
- 1:07:55coordinator coaching to the playoff, but it's taking to the
- 1:07:59job with a portal window that opens up January 2nd.
- 1:08:02Both of Oregon's coordinators taking other jobs for coaching
- 1:08:06through the playoff. Ole Miss, obviously a lot of lot
- 1:08:08of coaching changes. Texas Tech, that's not
- 1:08:10happening. Indiana, that's not happening.
- 1:08:12Texas A&M Colin Klein's leaving to be the head coach.
- 1:08:16Just coaching through the playoff.
- 1:08:18So as I'm getting to the end here, if I'm splitting hairs, I
- 1:08:21am looking at Ohio State and Oregon and going especially
- 1:08:24Oregon. Is that going to make a
- 1:08:25difference? Did they lose at Texas Tech?
- 1:08:28And they and who knows, they might just get beat on the
- 1:08:30field. But I do wonder behind the
- 1:08:31scenes. I know it's got to be tough to
- 1:08:33prep for a game like this. And I know you do your game
- 1:08:35prep, you know, in February, prepping for stuff like this
- 1:08:37because you work on you and get your team in the right mindset.
- 1:08:40But when you start to play good teams and splitting hairs
- 1:08:44matters for the result, I do wonder if those head coaches
- 1:08:47trying to those coaches trying to be two places at once matters
- 1:08:50down the stretch. I don't know the answer to that,
- 1:08:52but I'm at least curious and I've at least got it in the back
- 1:08:54of my mind as I'm picking these games.
- 1:08:56Georgia doesn't have that their their coaches are locked in.
- 1:08:59So I am curious to see if that makes an effect on the playoff.
