- 0:40SPEAKER_08: It was our podcast.
- 0:42SPEAKER_08: And just before I hit the driveway, I was I was I bust out laughing because you said I'd have to be drunk all the time to put up with John Bon Jovi.
- 0:54SPEAKER_08: That's true.
- 0:57SPEAKER_08: Welcome to the O'Brien and Doug podcast.
- 0:59SPEAKER_08: I'm O'Brien.
- 1:00SPEAKER_08: I'm Doug.
- 1:01SPEAKER_08: It is Hello Episode 258.
- 1:06SPEAKER_08: I just rolled in on two wheels.
- 1:09SPEAKER_08: Literally.
- 1:09SPEAKER_08: Literally just rolled in.
- 1:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:10SPEAKER_05: So my I've been enjoying the evening standing in your driveway.
- 1:14SPEAKER_05: My um It was it was nice out.
- 1:17SPEAKER_08: It was it is nice out.
- 1:18SPEAKER_08: Beautiful.
- 1:19SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and I'm still wearing shorts.
- 1:21SPEAKER_08: We were up in the up in the stands at my uh kids' soccer game.
- 1:24SPEAKER_08: So I failed my daughter.
- 1:27SPEAKER_08: Uh you said twice.
- 1:30SPEAKER_08: Twice.
- 1:33SPEAKER_08: Maybe more.
- 1:34SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 1:34SPEAKER_08: Today.
- 1:35SPEAKER_08: Today alone.
- 1:36SPEAKER_08: So it was a busy day for us.
- 1:38SPEAKER_08: So the boys had a varsity soccer game at uh 5 30.
- 1:42SPEAKER_08: And I forgot.
- 1:45SPEAKER_08: So Myra every once in a while runs lines for the soccer games.
- 1:50SPEAKER_08: And the athletic director They pay they pay them to do that, right?
- 1:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah, seven dollars.
- 1:54SPEAKER_05: Okay, good.
- 1:54SPEAKER_05: Oh still, hey.
- 1:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah, right.
- 1:56SPEAKER_08: When you're in sixth grade, seven bucks is a lot.
- 1:59SPEAKER_08: Via check.
- 2:00SPEAKER_08: Why didn't they give me a check?
- 2:01SPEAKER_08: They write a check for seven dollars.
- 2:03SPEAKER_08: But they also get free food, free goodies at the concession store.
- 2:07SPEAKER_05: Oh, well, that's that's nice.
- 2:08SPEAKER_08: So um anyway, so she had asked if Myra would run lines.
- 2:13SPEAKER_08: And what she does is she texts me.
- 2:14SPEAKER_08: This is the athletic director's um I don't want to say secretary.
- 2:19SPEAKER_08: She's like the assistant athletic director.
- 2:20SPEAKER_08: Sure.
- 2:21SPEAKER_08: So she she says, Can Myra run lines for the varsity boys game?
- 2:24SPEAKER_08: And I said, um well, she's she's at a basketb or a soccer game right now.
- 2:31SPEAKER_08: But I'm gonna say yes and I'll let you know if that changes.
- 2:34SPEAKER_08: She's like, that sounds good.
- 2:36SPEAKER_08: I completely forgot to tell her.
- 2:39SPEAKER_08: So so we got so I go to pick her up from Tell the Myra.
- 2:44SPEAKER_08: No, I forgot to tell Myra.
- 2:46SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 2:46SPEAKER_08: And so I go to I go to pick her up from her practice.
- 2:50SPEAKER_08: She gets in the in the car and she's changing her out of her cleats and and everything, and she's like, she had a bad practice.
- 2:56SPEAKER_08: And not a bad practice, but they ran a lot because somebody messed something up and that's what happens.
- 3:02SPEAKER_08: And so she's she's not in a great mood, and she's she's taking off her stuff, and she's like, I'm just gonna leave my my stuff in here, and you know, I'm really hungry.
- 3:11SPEAKER_08: I am so hungry.
- 3:12SPEAKER_08: I said, Alright, well, we'll go in and if the concessions is open, I'll get you something to eat.
- 3:17SPEAKER_08: And so we went into the complex there, and uh so we waited, and my wife finally shows up, and so we're sitting there, and I said, D Do you want me to she had a piece of pizza?
- 3:29SPEAKER_08: And then she goes, That wasn't enough.
- 3:31SPEAKER_08: Can you go get a popcorn?
- 3:33SPEAKER_08: I said, Sure.
- 3:34SPEAKER_08: She says, I'm really hungry.
- 3:35SPEAKER_08: I said, Okay.
- 3:36SPEAKER_08: So I go stand in line, it's a long line at the concessions, and uh as they're announcing the game, and then announce all the players and the coaches running lines tonight will be so-and-so and so-and-so, and Myra Mosier.
- 3:53SPEAKER_08: And I'm like, Oh yeah, I forgot to tell her that I see her strut down from the Bleasers and starts kind of walking over to where she's supposed to go, uh thinking I'm gonna still wait in line and get this popcorn.
- 4:08SPEAKER_08: I'll probably eat it all.
- 4:09SPEAKER_08: But she's she's like, I'm so hungry.
- 4:12SPEAKER_08: So anyway, I failed her, right?
- 4:14SPEAKER_08: And so the the game finishes, the boys won.
- 4:17SPEAKER_08: Uh 2-0.
- 4:18SPEAKER_08: And um Fort Kent.
- 4:23SPEAKER_08: Oh, and do you remember uh I do um Sarah and Leslie um well be Sarah Ashley, but Sarah Marquis and and Leslie Marquis.
- 4:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:35SPEAKER_08: They were there.
- 4:35SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 4:36SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:36SPEAKER_08: Their kids play now?
- 4:37SPEAKER_08: I guess so.
- 4:38SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 4:39SPEAKER_08: Um they both were they walked in together and they're like, hey pops! Apparently they saw your post.
- 4:47SPEAKER_08: Apparently, yeah.
- 4:48SPEAKER_08: And I will tell you if that's that's about the equivalent of going viral for me.
- 4:53SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 4:53SPEAKER_08: Because I had almost 500 likes on that thing, which was kind of cool.
- 4:58SPEAKER_08: People came out of the woodwork.
- 4:59SPEAKER_08: It was like, who is so-and-so?
- 5:01SPEAKER_08: I click on it, oh, oh, they got married again.
- 5:04SPEAKER_08: Or something.
- 5:05SPEAKER_08: Changed her last name.
- 5:06SPEAKER_08: What if?
- 5:07SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 5:07SPEAKER_08: Anyway.
- 5:08SPEAKER_08: So I said to my wife, I said, Are you gonna stay for the girls' game?
- 5:13SPEAKER_08: She said, I think so.
- 5:13SPEAKER_08: If if Myra wants to, I know she's tired.
- 5:16SPEAKER_08: And so I said, Alright, well, I'm gonna put all her stuff in the van.
- 5:20SPEAKER_08: Because, you know, she left her backpack and everything in the van, because it's probably gonna get cold up there.
- 5:26SPEAKER_08: And uh, so I put all her stuff in the van.
- 5:28SPEAKER_08: I said, I gotta get home because Doug's probably waiting for me.
- 5:31SPEAKER_08: So I I I leave, and just as I pulled in the driver, I'm like, oh, these are her sweatpants.
- 5:38SPEAKER_05: Well, you you decided surprise.
- 5:40SPEAKER_05: You were like lifting up clothing, and I'm like, well, that that's not gonna fit you, dude.
- 5:44SPEAKER_08: No, so it was like this is supposed to be in her backpack.
- 5:48SPEAKER_08: Which I put in.
- 5:49SPEAKER_08: Which you also had.
- 5:50SPEAKER_08: Which no, I didn't.
- 5:52SPEAKER_08: No, I no, I did have her, I don't know what's in that, to be honest with you.
- 5:55SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 5:55SPEAKER_08: So it's not a backpack.
- 5:58SPEAKER_08: When she goes to school every morning, it's um she wears her sports bag on the front over her shoulders, like a backpack on the front, and a regular backpack on the back.
- 6:08SPEAKER_08: She's like a turtle or something.
- 6:10SPEAKER_05: Oh, like she's gonna jump out of the plane.
- 6:12SPEAKER_05: Right, that's it.
- 6:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_08: Anyway, and um I wanna be an airborne ranger.
- 6:18SPEAKER_08: So so I don't know if they're gonna how long they're gonna stay up there, but uh they were they were talking about staying for the girls' game.
- 6:24SPEAKER_08: But I know she's pretty tired, so I really uh I really messed up.
- 6:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 6:29SPEAKER_05: I mean, it is it's not like you, you know, were going on vacation to Europe and you left her in the house.
- 6:37SPEAKER_05: That's true.
- 6:38SPEAKER_05: They should make a movie like this.
- 6:41SPEAKER_05: I bet that would sell really well.
- 6:43SPEAKER_05: Maybe make two or three sequels.
- 6:45SPEAKER_08: Now we know what our drops are gonna be.
- 6:50SPEAKER_08: Um a couple of things I wanted to mention.
- 6:53SPEAKER_08: Uh the first thing is what you noticed when you walked in.
- 6:56SPEAKER_08: So do you remember my first Taylor guitar?
- 7:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 7:02SPEAKER_08: The one that fell and cracked.
- 7:05SPEAKER_08: Do you remember that?
- 7:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_08: And it was, you know, the the neck was kind of wonky.
- 7:11SPEAKER_08: Kinda wonky.
- 7:11SPEAKER_08: And then I had our our good friend Randy King at C Music fix it for me.
- 7:16SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 7:16SPEAKER_08: And did a great job.
- 7:18SPEAKER_08: And uh it was working.
- 7:19SPEAKER_08: He has a gift.
- 7:20SPEAKER_08: He does have a gift.
- 7:22SPEAKER_08: It was working uh really well, and then it fell again.
- 7:26SPEAKER_08: Ah you know, I do have children.
- 7:29SPEAKER_08: Um and at the time they were younger.
- 7:33SPEAKER_08: So this was this was caught quite a while ago.
- 7:35SPEAKER_08: Uh and it fell again.
- 7:36SPEAKER_08: Anyway, it it busted again in the same place, right at the the headstock where the headstock meets the neck.
- 7:44SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 7:45SPEAKER_08: And so I brought it into Randy again, and he's like I don't know, man.
- 7:50SPEAKER_08: Uh uh, you know, uh there's a there's a procedure that I could do that would involve this and this and this, and I mean he was trying to explain it to me, and I have really no idea what he's talking about.
- 8:00SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 8:01SPEAKER_08: He says, but he's and i it to his credit, he's a luthier.
- 8:05SPEAKER_08: I mean, he builds guitars.
- 8:06SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 8:06SPEAKER_08: And he knows uh his way around.
- 8:09SPEAKER_08: And so I trust him implicitly, but he didn't trust himself with this one.
- 8:12SPEAKER_08: He's like, I've never done this before.
- 8:15SPEAKER_08: So um I could do it and it could be successful, or I could do it and I could just completely destroy it.
- 8:23SPEAKER_08: And I said, I'm willing to take that chance because it's already broke.
- 8:28unknown: Right.
- 8:28SPEAKER_05: You know, I mean you're not out anything.
- 8:30SPEAKER_08: I'm not out anything.
- 8:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and and I went and bought another Taylor guitar anyway.
- 8:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 8:34SPEAKER_08: So I was I had another Taylor.
- 8:36SPEAKER_08: So I left it with him at KMH for two years maybe.
- 8:44SPEAKER_08: I mean, maybe even longer.
- 8:46SPEAKER_08: I don't remember how long he he had it a long time.
- 8:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 8:49SPEAKER_08: And every once in a while I'd ask about it, because you know, I frequent KMH quite a bit, and I was like, How's that uh how's that Taylor coming?
- 8:56SPEAKER_08: Uh I haven't you know, I haven't really had a chance to, you know.
- 9:00SPEAKER_08: And so finally he said, you know what, I don't think I'm gonna be able to do it.
- 9:05SPEAKER_08: So do you wanna take it?
- 9:07SPEAKER_08: And I was like, Yeah, yeah, I'll take it.
- 9:09SPEAKER_08: I mean it still plays.
- 9:11SPEAKER_08: Um so and if nothing else, I'll just like have it hanging on the on the wall.
- 9:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah, sure.
- 9:19SPEAKER_08: Or something.
- 9:20SPEAKER_08: And he says, Alright, so I took it and I put it in with all my other guitars in here.
- 9:25SPEAKER_08: And as you know, uh elementary school started last week.
- 9:29SPEAKER_08: We talked about that on the podcast.
- 9:31SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 9:32SPEAKER_08: But I'm in two elementary schools.
- 9:34SPEAKER_08: Uh the second one is in Mapleton, and I'm only there Thursday and Friday mornings.
- 9:39SPEAKER_08: So as I'm leaving Thursday, I had left uh a Yamaha guitar at the high school, and there's another one that I left at the first elementary school.
- 9:50SPEAKER_08: I said, well, I'm gonna I gotta bring out a guitar for this elementary school.
- 9:54SPEAKER_08: So I was like, So I'm gonna bring that Taylor.
- 9:58SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 9:59SPEAKER_08: I mean it still works.
- 10:01SPEAKER_08: So I bring it, and my first class of the day is second grade.
- 10:07SPEAKER_08: And so I take out the the guitar, and yep, I mean it's cracked.
- 10:10SPEAKER_08: I mean the the headstock is kind of leaning this way.
- 10:13SPEAKER_08: And he had loosened the strings because he didn't take less take the tension off, right?
- 10:19SPEAKER_08: So he loosened them all.
- 10:20SPEAKER_08: So I tuned them up.
- 10:22SPEAKER_08: You know, tuned up the guitar and it still played.
- 10:25SPEAKER_08: I mean it was like I mean it it's not perfect, but it still played.
- 10:30SPEAKER_08: So I started the second grade class with a hello song and went went fine.
- 10:35SPEAKER_08: And we did some other things, and then halfway through the class I picked up the guitar again and I started playing, and it's like and then pop, and then the kids were like, Did you break a string?
- 10:46SPEAKER_08: I said, I I don't I don't know.
- 10:47SPEAKER_08: I felt like I broke a string.
- 10:49SPEAKER_08: So they're all gathered around me.
- 10:51SPEAKER_08: And I'm looking at them, no, it didn't actually, just this string just kind of popped out of the the the nut here up on the top.
- 10:58SPEAKER_08: It just popped out.
- 10:59SPEAKER_08: So I said, Okay, I'll just I'll pop it back in.
- 11:02SPEAKER_08: So I popped it back in, put the guitar down, we did something else.
- 11:07SPEAKER_08: Um, and for this I'm gonna get a visual, so just bear with me for a second.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: So you can see what happened.
- 11:28SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 11:29SPEAKER_10: So you see the strings are still attached.
- 11:33SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 11:34SPEAKER_08: So I go to I go to do the song at the end, the go bye song or whatever.
- 11:41SPEAKER_08: So this is this is these second these poor second graders.
- 11:45SPEAKER_08: So I'm I'm like this, right?
- 11:47SPEAKER_08: Of course, this is kind of like this, sure, but it's tuned, and I'm I'm I've been using it, and we go to do the last song of the class, and I played the first chord.
- 11:59SPEAKER_08: I went boom, and the headstock went like this literally, the headstock just fell off and hung down just like this, and the look on their faces was like Mr.
- 12:17SPEAKER_14: Mosier!
- 12:19SPEAKER_08: And then so I told them, and I I told him it was already broken, yeah, you know, and I was just using it, but then I said, All right, um, we lined up to go back to their class, and I wrapped these strings in the headstock around me, and I said, I'm gonna tell your teacher it was your fault.
- 12:37SPEAKER_08: And I so I did.
- 12:38SPEAKER_08: I walked into their second grade classroom, and their teacher's in there, and I'm like, I don't know what you're doing to these kids, but they're crazy.
- 12:47SPEAKER_08: She was like, What happened?
- 12:50SPEAKER_08: So I said, No worries.
- 12:52SPEAKER_08: Now it's a piece of art.
- 12:53SPEAKER_05: It is.
- 12:54SPEAKER_05: It's it's it's uh it's a it's a commentary on the state of music today.
- 12:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it is.
- 12:59SPEAKER_08: And the the the funny thing is, is um I call it Taylor Swift Socks.
- 13:05SPEAKER_08: That's what I call it.
- 13:07SPEAKER_08: Um I think I could because the I think the neck is is a bolted neck.
- 13:13SPEAKER_08: So I think if I contacted Taylor and gave them the model number, I think I could get a new neck.
- 13:20SPEAKER_05: I would say you probably could.
- 13:21SPEAKER_05: And Randy, Randy could definitely have some of it.
- 13:26SPEAKER_08: Um, but I don't know how much that would be.
- 13:28SPEAKER_08: Um maybe free.
- 13:30SPEAKER_08: I I don't know.
- 13:31SPEAKER_05: Well, from from Taylor.
- 13:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I don't I don't know.
- 13:33SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 13:34SPEAKER_05: Just be like, I was playing along, man, and all of a sudden, bam! I don't know what happened.
- 13:40SPEAKER_04: There were strings and and the head went everywhere, and the kids started crying.
- 13:45SPEAKER_04: No, there was nothing wrong with it before.
- 13:48SPEAKER_05: And the and the blood, and the moon turned to blood, and the sun went black out.
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: It's the end of times, man.
- 13:56SPEAKER_05: Can I have a new guitar?
- 13:59SPEAKER_08: So I don't know.
- 14:00SPEAKER_08: I'll I'll contact Taylor and see if you know what that might cost.
- 14:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 14:05SPEAKER_08: But if it and if it costs too much, I'll just use it.
- 14:07SPEAKER_08: I'll just put it hanging on the wall or something.
- 14:09SPEAKER_05: Just call it call it a day.
- 14:11SPEAKER_08: Yeah, because I mean look at the look at the life that it's had.
- 14:13SPEAKER_05: It's a I mean, you've you've used that for years and years and years.
- 14:16SPEAKER_05: And it's been a good guitar, but so yeah.
- 14:19SPEAKER_05: I mean, you know, you got your money's worth out of it.
- 14:21SPEAKER_05: Oh, for sure.
- 14:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 14:22SPEAKER_05: So yeah.
- 14:23SPEAKER_08: I have two other tailors, too.
- 14:25SPEAKER_08: So I think that's a good thing.
- 14:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so I mean, you know, just you know, this is just Taylor One, now you got Taylor 2, Taylor 3.
- 14:30SPEAKER_08: Exactly.
- 14:30SPEAKER_08: So I mean, look, so the I mean Yeah, I mean it it's it's possible.
- 14:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean anything is possible.
- 14:37SPEAKER_08: I mean, you know, but I'm not I'm not like completely heartbroken because I haven't had it for two or three weeks.
- 14:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was about to say it's been sitting with Randy, so yeah.
- 14:46SPEAKER_08: Um a couple other things.
- 14:48SPEAKER_05: So the other you should bring it in to Randy.
- 14:50SPEAKER_05: So just, hey Randy, can you do something with me?
- 14:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah, burn it.
- 14:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah, right.
- 14:55SPEAKER_08: That's exactly what he'd say.
- 14:56SPEAKER_08: He thinks I know he would.
- 14:59SPEAKER_08: Um You know what I uh started listening to again?
- 15:03SPEAKER_08: Um, and I don't know why.
- 15:04SPEAKER_08: I think because we're we're trying to concentrate a little bit more on the podcast uh recently, or I am.
- 15:10SPEAKER_08: I don't know if you are, probably you are doing what now?
- 15:14SPEAKER_08: Concentrate on like building the podcast a little bit more.
- 15:17SPEAKER_08: Um I I ref I ref rediscovered the uh Michael Mara show.
- 15:23SPEAKER_06: Oh the podcast.
- 15:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's on uh it's on Apple Podcasts and stuff.
- 15:27SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 15:27SPEAKER_08: So I subscribed to that.
- 15:28SPEAKER_08: I was listening to that.
- 15:29SPEAKER_08: It brought back so many memories.
- 15:31SPEAKER_08: Oh man.
- 15:31SPEAKER_08: Because Rob A is still involved.
- 15:33SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 15:33SPEAKER_08: So it's Mike and Rob A and a couple other people that I I don't really know.
- 15:38SPEAKER_08: Um but it's just them talking about football and just talking about you know what they used to talk about.
- 15:45SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah, you know, uh Doger Animo's not with them anymore.
- 15:48SPEAKER_08: Well didn't he pass away?
- 15:49SPEAKER_08: He did not pass away.
- 15:50SPEAKER_08: Oh he didn't.
- 15:51SPEAKER_08: No, his wife did.
- 15:52SPEAKER_05: His wife, that's what it was, yeah.
- 15:53SPEAKER_05: His wife did.
- 15:54SPEAKER_08: And I think and he's remarried.
- 15:56SPEAKER_08: Uh but I think he's he's for all intents and purposes retired.
- 16:02SPEAKER_08: I think he does some some um I maybe he has his own podcast or something, or he does some sort of uh guest spots here and there.
- 16:11SPEAKER_08: I haven't heard about his his stuff.
- 16:13SPEAKER_08: I have to track him down because we used to love the Don and Mike show, man.
- 16:18SPEAKER_05: It was like an event.
- 16:20SPEAKER_08: It really was.
- 16:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because you would tape it at work and then you'd bring it into us, we'd play it.
- 16:23SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I did it.
- 16:24SPEAKER_08: I did some stuff so that was so wrong.
- 16:27SPEAKER_08: I was on the air and I was listening to Don and Mike and Closed Circuit because it was entertaining.
- 16:33SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 16:34SPEAKER_08: Hey.
- 16:34SPEAKER_08: And you know, honestly, I I I will say, and I think you can agree with this.
- 16:41SPEAKER_08: This podcast is it's not like that, but I see it like that.
- 16:49SPEAKER_05: You know, I mean we It's it's similar in style.
- 16:53SPEAKER_08: It's similar in style.
- 16:54SPEAKER_08: That's that's we're not as it's we're not as well put together, obviously, as the show was.
- 16:59SPEAKER_05: But we're definitely not as crude.
- 17:01SPEAKER_08: Not as crude.
- 17:02SPEAKER_08: It was very crude.
- 17:03SPEAKER_05: It was crude, yeah.
- 17:04SPEAKER_05: So um but just I mean not disgustingly crude, but I mean they did have strip trivia.
- 17:11SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that was hands, which we're not gonna do.
- 17:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:14SPEAKER_08: No.
- 17:14SPEAKER_08: Um but it you know, they they do a lot of movie clips and things like that.
- 17:19SPEAKER_08: So I mean it's it's it's the same idea.
- 17:22SPEAKER_08: Um and so I think we were inspired.
- 17:24SPEAKER_05: Well, I I I think, you know, subconsciously we were just, you know, you know, you know, it's an homage to those guys.
- 17:30SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:31SPEAKER_08: So if you ever get a chance, I think there's some stuff on YouTube.
- 17:34SPEAKER_08: I think there's some episodes on YouTube.
- 17:36SPEAKER_08: Just look up Don and Mike, the Don and Mike show.
- 17:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:38SPEAKER_08: Uh it's it's pretty great to listen to.
- 17:41SPEAKER_08: It was great.
- 17:41SPEAKER_08: It was so funny.
- 17:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it was so funny.
- 17:43SPEAKER_08: Michael Mara was the uh man with many voices.
- 17:46SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 17:46SPEAKER_08: Oh, my word.
- 17:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:48SPEAKER_08: Um funny, man.
- 17:50SPEAKER_08: So what was the thing that I sent you the other day?
- 17:53SPEAKER_08: And I said we should talk about this on the podcast.
- 17:57SPEAKER_08: Oh, you know what it was like.
- 17:59SPEAKER_05: Was it the Metallica singing or yeah, was it Metallica in that van?
- 18:05SPEAKER_08: It was not that.
- 18:07SPEAKER_08: That was funny, though.
- 18:08SPEAKER_08: I remember sending that to you.
- 18:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 18:09SPEAKER_08: But no, you know what it was?
- 18:12SPEAKER_08: Was it Ozzy's Band?
- 18:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah, Brad Gillis.
- 18:16SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:17SPEAKER_08: Yes, with this guy.
- 18:19SPEAKER_08: Yeah, some rando.
- 18:20SPEAKER_08: Some random guy.
- 18:21SPEAKER_08: Uh, and I I guess he's not a random guy.
- 18:24SPEAKER_08: I guess he's you know, got quite a quite of uh um career, I think.
- 18:30SPEAKER_08: Canadian heavy metal powerhouse.
- 18:33SPEAKER_08: His he was from the band Sword.
- 18:37SPEAKER_08: And Saints and Sinners.
- 18:39SPEAKER_05: Saints and Sinners I've heard of.
- 18:41SPEAKER_08: Okay, well, he's he's Canadian.
- 18:43SPEAKER_08: His name is Rick Hughes, and he's got a brand new solo album, or solo release, I should say, from the album Redemption.
- 18:51SPEAKER_08: Uh, and so I clicked, I think I saw it on Instagram.
- 18:54SPEAKER_08: I think it was like an ad on Instagram.
- 18:56SPEAKER_08: It says Rick Hughes, and blah blah blah.
- 18:58SPEAKER_08: And they had the video.
- 19:00SPEAKER_08: And let me just play a little bit of uh of the song, and I'll tell you who's in the band because this was quite uh quite surprising to me.
- 19:12SPEAKER_08: And you uh obviously well it's Skelator, right?
- 19:19SPEAKER_05: And Brad Gillis and Rudy Starzard.
- 19:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so this is basically Ozzy Osborne's band from the eighty early, you know, early 80s.
- 19:29SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, because after Randy Randy passed in like 82, something like that, yeah, and Brad Gillis went on tour and replaced him on the tour.
- 19:38SPEAKER_05: So basically like 83, 84.
- 19:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:41SPEAKER_08: And uh, but Tommy Ald, like you said, Tommy Alders on drums, Rudy Starzo on bass, and Brad Gillis on guitar.
- 20:01SPEAKER_05: I've never heard of Rick.
- 20:03SPEAKER_05: No idea, man.
- 20:05SPEAKER_05: You sent me that clip, I was just like, I was like, oh, it's Brad Gilles and Tom Ellerid and Ruby Tarzo and who's that guy.
- 20:15SPEAKER_08: I mean it's it's decent, I guess.
- 20:18SPEAKER_05: It's pretty good, yeah, yeah.
- 20:20SPEAKER_08: Got a nice voice.
- 20:23SPEAKER_08: This is uh a song by the Who, actually.
- 20:26SPEAKER_08: The real me.
- 20:28SPEAKER_08: Um, I'm not sure if that's from Is that from the the um musical Tommy?
- 20:33SPEAKER_05: I have no idea who that is.
- 20:35SPEAKER_05: I've literally never heard this song.
- 20:36SPEAKER_08: You've you even with your sister being such a big Who fan?
- 20:40SPEAKER_05: Hey, she lives her life, I live my life.
- 20:50SPEAKER_08: This doesn't sound like a Who song, does it?
- 20:52SPEAKER_12: Now I would have thought I would have stood it was their song, and I was just one of the Brighton, it's a car stool side.
- 22:14SPEAKER_08: Don't get me wrong, he's an amazing guitar player.
- 22:16SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, no doubt.
- 22:17SPEAKER_05: But uh he's kinda he's a little over the top of the theater.
- 22:20SPEAKER_08: A little over the top, yeah.
- 22:21SPEAKER_08: I saw him live and it was uh the original.
- 22:26SPEAKER_08: This is the Who.
- 22:30SPEAKER_08: I I know this song just because I used to play it on the radio.
- 22:33SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 22:43SPEAKER_05: Well I can I can tell that's a Keith Moon.
- 22:46SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 22:47SPEAKER_05: You know, it's something about Keith Moon's bass uh kick drum.
- 22:52SPEAKER_05: It's got an interesting down to it.
- 22:57SPEAKER_08: And listen to that bass too.
- 23:09SPEAKER_08: Anyway, uh so Rick Hughes um reunited uh the uh a classic Aussie lineup.
- 23:15SPEAKER_08: So that's that's kind of cool.
- 23:16SPEAKER_05: That's cool.
- 23:16SPEAKER_05: Uh pretty good.
- 23:18SPEAKER_08: They do a good version of that.
- 23:20SPEAKER_08: Yeah, once again from um from Rick Hughes.
- 23:22SPEAKER_05: So is this gonna be on an album?
- 23:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's coming from the uh an upcoming album called Redemption.
- 23:27SPEAKER_05: Let me guess.
- 23:28SPEAKER_05: Frontiers.
- 23:29SPEAKER_08: Uh that's a great question.
- 23:31SPEAKER_08: I don't think it is, to be honest.
- 23:32SPEAKER_08: What?
- 23:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I I don't think it is.
- 23:34SPEAKER_04: That's just crazy.
- 23:36SPEAKER_08: Uh Frontiers.
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: That's just that's just silly.
- 23:41SPEAKER_04: I don't understand it at all.
- 23:43SPEAKER_08: Let's see.
- 23:46SPEAKER_08: I think it is not on Frontiers.
- 23:52SPEAKER_08: It doesn't, it it I think it says on the video that I watched on Instagram, but it doesn't say on here.
- 23:57SPEAKER_08: Nah, that's fine.
- 23:58SPEAKER_08: Uh but it doesn't matter.
- 23:59SPEAKER_08: Not a big one.
- 23:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it doesn't really matter.
- 24:01SPEAKER_08: Um so yeah, that was I thought that was kinda kinda interesting.
- 24:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 24:05SPEAKER_08: Um I re reached out or or um Cousin Larry reached out to me.
- 24:13SPEAKER_08: Who's that?
- 24:14SPEAKER_08: And I do want to play this just because Did he send like a trailer?
- 24:19SPEAKER_08: He sent something.
- 24:21SPEAKER_08: He sent like an idea.
- 24:23SPEAKER_08: Uh and says, you know, basically he says, I really don't know what I'm doing.
- 24:27SPEAKER_08: Um so I sent him a couple of uh maybe I should do it on here.
- 24:32SPEAKER_08: That might be better.
- 24:33SPEAKER_08: If Oh, sorry.
- 24:36SPEAKER_08: What is happening?
- 24:37SPEAKER_08: It was a commercial.
- 24:38SPEAKER_08: Um, of course I'm logged out.
- 24:42SPEAKER_08: Of course I am.
- 24:43SPEAKER_05: You seem to be logged out of everything.
- 24:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and I'm not sure why.
- 24:48SPEAKER_08: Now they're gonna send me a thing here to my phone.
- 24:51SPEAKER_08: I'm not a robot.
- 24:52SPEAKER_08: I'm not a robot.
- 24:54SPEAKER_08: That should be the name of the podcast.
- 24:55SPEAKER_08: I'm not a robot.
- 24:56SPEAKER_08: I'm not a robot.
- 24:59SPEAKER_08: Uh select all squares with bicycles.

- 27:02SPEAKER_08: Is she our age?
- 27:03SPEAKER_08: No.
- 27:04SPEAKER_08: Is she really young?
- 27:07SPEAKER_05: No.
- 27:07SPEAKER_08: No, okay.

- 27:25SPEAKER_08: And I I told him, I said, ha ha, I will use this one for sure.
- 27:29SPEAKER_08: Because I thought it was kind of kinda kind of funny.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: It's the O'Brien and Doug Pod show with those two brothers in arms, Poncho and not lefty.

- 28:10SPEAKER_08: Um I said, I don't know why, but I want to sound like we're still on the radio.
- 28:14SPEAKER_08: Probably stupid, but here's an example.
- 28:16SPEAKER_08: So this was uh an imaging uh guy who has a thing on YouTube.
- 28:22SPEAKER_08: Hey, no a guy.
- 28:23SPEAKER_08: Uh I'm gonna give him credit.

- 28:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 28:59SPEAKER_08: Um, and I sent him another one to um, I think the background on this one might be even busier, but I'm not sure.
- 29:08SPEAKER_08: Um this is Ed Bishop voiceovers.
- 29:12SPEAKER_08: Turn it up.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: Hello, stop.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Are you listening to me talking about talking to yourself?

- 29:39SPEAKER_05: I just don't like all the crap going on behind it.
- 29:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 29:42SPEAKER_05: I don't I don't think we need that.
- 29:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I don't think we do either.
- 29:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 29:45SPEAKER_08: Um but I want it to be just just kind of I don't know.
- 29:50SPEAKER_08: Something energetic, something modern and and yeah, energetic is a good word.
- 29:54SPEAKER_08: Energetic is a good word.
- 29:55SPEAKER_04: You're gonna listen to a podcast about nothing.
- 29:58SPEAKER_04: Woo! Yay! With Pancho and not lefty.
- 30:02SPEAKER_08: I do like that though.
- 30:05SPEAKER_08: So funny.
- 30:06SPEAKER_08: We're we're gonna we're definitely gonna use that.
- 30:08SPEAKER_08: Um so yeah.
- 30:10SPEAKER_08: Um he's he's willing to do it.
- 30:12SPEAKER_08: I just have to uh oh, the other one I sent him was uh wow, what was it that I sent him?
- 30:18SPEAKER_08: I sent him one that said uh O'Brien and Doug.
- 30:22SPEAKER_08: Um O'Brien and Doug, two microphones, no filter.
- 30:28SPEAKER_08: You don't like that?
- 30:29SPEAKER_08: No.
- 30:30SPEAKER_08: No.
- 30:31SPEAKER_05: Sorry.
- 30:32SPEAKER_08: Because we do well, we do have kind of have a filter.
- 30:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 30:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 30:36SPEAKER_08: Um not that I want him to say that, but I said, you know, things like that.
- 30:40SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 30:40SPEAKER_08: Um I was going for like the Don and Mike type thing.
- 30:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I get it.
- 30:44SPEAKER_08: So I don't know.
- 30:45SPEAKER_08: We'll uh we'll see what he can come up with.
- 30:48SPEAKER_05: Sure.
- 30:48SPEAKER_05: I I trust in him.
- 30:49SPEAKER_08: I d I trust him because he knows us, uh he knows the show.
- 30:52SPEAKER_08: He does.
- 30:53SPEAKER_08: And he he knows what what we're about and stuff like that.
- 30:56SPEAKER_05: And and he knows a thing or two because he's seen a thing or two.
- 30:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 31:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 31:00SPEAKER_08: That's what I'm saying.
- 31:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 31:02SPEAKER_05: Y'all on.
- 31:03SPEAKER_05: Y'all.
- 31:04SPEAKER_08: Okay, I found a couple of uh things on Ultimate Classic Rock.com.
- 31:08SPEAKER_08: A couple of new tracks.
- 31:10SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 31:11SPEAKER_08: Um, and the first one is from a re-release of Journeyman from Eric Clapton.
- 31:17SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 31:18SPEAKER_08: Had Pretending on It, had Um Anything for Anything for Your Love On It, had Running Uh Lady I've Runin' On Faith.
- 31:28SPEAKER_08: Lady I've been Running On Faith.
- 31:30SPEAKER_08: Um When they were putting together the re-release, they found this four new songs.
- 31:41SPEAKER_08: So this is from Journeyman the Deluxe edition, which will be available November 21st.
- 31:49SPEAKER_08: Um there's a new song called Forever.
- 31:54SPEAKER_08: And, you know, I I have to wonder if they really found these songs.
- 31:59SPEAKER_08: No.
- 32:00SPEAKER_05: Or well, I mean, but they were just they were they were gonna be on the album.
- 32:04SPEAKER_05: They were like, nah, they're not gonna make the cuts, let's just put them in a file or in a cabinet somewhere and thirty years later.
- 32:12SPEAKER_08: Oh, hey, look what we found.
- 32:13SPEAKER_08: We kind of have to put something extra on here so we can s put this release out there.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: That's that's all it is.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: I mean it's not not like look what we found in the attic.
- 32:22SPEAKER_08: Um, it's not a fan fa fantastically impressive tune.
- 32:25SPEAKER_08: I mean, it's okay.
- 32:26SPEAKER_08: So the original track listing for Journeyman is pretending.
- 32:30SPEAKER_08: Anything for Oh, Bad Love.
- 32:31SPEAKER_08: Not had enough.
- 32:33SPEAKER_08: Bad love.
- 32:34SPEAKER_08: You don't I don't know.
- 32:35SPEAKER_08: You don't know that song?
- 32:37SPEAKER_08: Oh man, I love that song.
- 32:38SPEAKER_08: Running on Faith, Hard Times, Sound Dog, No Alibis, Run So Far, Old Love, Breaking Point, and Lead Me On.
- 32:45SPEAKER_08: Oh, and Before You Cuse Me.
- 32:47SPEAKER_08: The uh studio version.
- 32:48SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 32:49SPEAKER_08: And then so the new tracks are a song called Higher Power, uh, Border Song, which I know that's Higher Power, I think I think Higher Power he did for a Stevie Wonder uh tribute album.
- 33:05SPEAKER_08: I think.
- 33:07SPEAKER_08: Border Song, I know he did for or released it on an Elton John tribute.
- 33:14SPEAKER_08: So they didn't find that song.
- 33:15SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 33:16SPEAKER_08: Um there's a song called That Kind of Woman, and this song, this is called Forever from Journeyman Deluxe.
- 33:24SPEAKER_08: Eric Clapton.
- 34:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it's it's I mean it's okay.
- 34:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's nothing nothing to write home about.
- 34:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's just okay.
- 34:15SPEAKER_08: It's it's just okay.
- 34:16SPEAKER_08: Uh but that comes out, uh I think I mentioned that.
- 34:19SPEAKER_08: Comes out uh November twelfth.
- 34:20SPEAKER_08: November twenty-first.
- 34:21SPEAKER_08: Did I say twelfth?
- 34:23SPEAKER_05: I said twelfth.
- 34:24SPEAKER_05: But I just uh I had a moment of dyslexia.
- 34:27SPEAKER_08: So November twenty-first, uh that will be out.
- 34:30SPEAKER_08: So that's I knew it was November though.
- 34:32SPEAKER_08: Uh he is coming, I think, and uh and I'm not gonna get a chance to uh see him uh September 16th this month uh at uh the the Garden in Boston.
- 34:45SPEAKER_08: And is he eighty yet?
- 34:48SPEAKER_05: He's pretty close, I think.
- 34:50SPEAKER_08: I g I'm not sure if he's uh eighty or not.
- 34:54SPEAKER_08: I know he's very close to that.
- 35:00SPEAKER_08: Um let's see.
- 35:07SPEAKER_08: Uh he is oh, he's eighty.
- 35:09SPEAKER_08: Oh, is it?
- 35:10SPEAKER_08: He turned eighty in March.
- 35:11SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay.
- 35:12SPEAKER_08: Uh so uh I think if I if I don't see him this month, I'm probably not gonna see him in the car.
- 35:18SPEAKER_05: Probably not.
- 35:19SPEAKER_05: But but you never know.
- 35:20SPEAKER_05: I mean, B.B.
- 35:21SPEAKER_05: King went, what, eighty-eight?
- 35:23SPEAKER_05: True.
- 35:24SPEAKER_05: Something like that.
- 35:24SPEAKER_08: True, yeah.
- 35:26SPEAKER_05: There's always a chance.
- 35:27SPEAKER_08: I guess so.
- 35:28SPEAKER_08: Um another new song.
- 35:31SPEAKER_08: It's actually a kind of a new old song.
- 35:33SPEAKER_08: Robert Plant, um, from Led Zeppelin, and of course his illustrious solo career.
- 35:39SPEAKER_08: Which honestly, I like some of his solo stuff better than Led Zeppelin.
- 35:43SPEAKER_05: See, I like Led Zeppelin stuff better than his solo stuff.
- 35:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah, really.
- 35:46SPEAKER_08: Well, see, of course.
- 35:47SPEAKER_05: But I did I did like the the first one, uh long uh what was that?
- 35:51SPEAKER_05: Tall, cool one.
- 35:52SPEAKER_08: Tall cool one.
- 35:53SPEAKER_05: Tall cool one.
- 35:54SPEAKER_05: I like that one.
- 35:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:55SPEAKER_05: And uh stuff he did the stuff he did with the honey drippers.
- 36:00SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 36:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 36:01SPEAKER_05: I like that stuff.
- 36:05SPEAKER_08: Sea of Love.
- 36:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 36:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 36:07SPEAKER_08: Um he had some um But other than that, I don't really think.
- 36:11SPEAKER_08: Big Log.
- 36:11SPEAKER_08: Have you ever heard Big Log?
- 36:13SPEAKER_08: I always used to make fun of it because of the name.
- 36:16SPEAKER_08: No.
- 36:17SPEAKER_08: No, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 36:19SPEAKER_08: Big Log.
- 36:19SPEAKER_08: I wanna show you that one real quick because um I think you would know it if I played it.
- 36:25SPEAKER_08: You just didn't know the title of it.
- 36:27SPEAKER_05: Uh which Well, I would remember Big Log.
- 36:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 36:30SPEAKER_05: Because I'd be making fun of that.
- 36:31SPEAKER_08: I bet I bet you know the song, um, but you just let's see.
- 36:43SPEAKER_05: No, no, not ringing any bells.
- 36:52SPEAKER_05: No, no.
- 36:54SPEAKER_05: I think this one I mean maybe I I have heard it, but it's it's just not it's not landing with me anywhere, so I do like Tall Cool one though.
- 37:06SPEAKER_05: I do like that one.
- 37:07SPEAKER_05: That's a good song.
- 37:08SPEAKER_08: So anyway, he's got a new uh solo album uh coming out, and it's called Saving Grace, and this track um is called Chevrolet.
- 37:20SPEAKER_08: And yes, it is a remake.
- 37:24SPEAKER_08: Um the track is actually an interpretation of Donovan's 1965 song, Hey Jip, Dig the Slowness.
- 37:33SPEAKER_08: I have no idea what that means.
- 37:34SPEAKER_05: I have no idea, man.
- 37:35SPEAKER_08: Which was an adaptation of Memphis Mini and Kansas Joe McCoy's 1930 blues cut Can I Do It For You?
- 37:42SPEAKER_08: Um I think you will recognize this song because I think Derek Trucks did a version of this, the Derek Trux band.
- 38:11SPEAKER_13: I want to take I want to take that.
- 38:36SPEAKER_08: Not really.
- 38:56SPEAKER_08: Is there a release date for the album?
- 38:58SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 38:59SPEAKER_08: Uh Saving Grace arrives on September twenty-sixth.
- 39:02SPEAKER_08: It's his twelfth solo record.
- 39:05SPEAKER_08: Um this one's called Everybody's Song.
- 39:53SPEAKER_08: I don't know, I kinda like it.
- 39:55SPEAKER_08: I mean it's okay.
- 39:56SPEAKER_08: I don't care for it.
- 39:56SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 39:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it just something about is just tear everyone up not really not really landing with me.
- 40:06SPEAKER_08: Well, there's one more, so maybe this one will land with you.
- 40:09SPEAKER_08: This is called Gospel Plow.
- 40:12SPEAKER_08: And he's 77, by the way, so.
- 40:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I knew he was up there.
- 40:15SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:38SPEAKER_08: See, I already like it.
- 40:40SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 40:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 40:41SPEAKER_08: Cause just the guitar and the bluesy, and yeah.
- 40:46SPEAKER_08: There's no meat to it yet, obviously.
- 40:52SPEAKER_08: Kind of a long intro.
- 40:57SPEAKER_08: Let me go, let me go further here.
- 41:11SPEAKER_14: Keep your hand on the Does it go anywhere?
- 41:21SPEAKER_08: That's my question.
- 41:22SPEAKER_08: Is it does it go anywhere?
- 41:24SPEAKER_05: Keep your hand on the I think that's I think that's why I'm not digging any of this, because it just doesn't seem to it's not interesting.
- 41:34SPEAKER_08: As you can tell, as I as I skipped around, it doesn't go anywhere.
- 41:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean it's the same thing over and it's very blah to me.
- 41:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 41:43SPEAKER_05: So I don't I mean, no I mean nothing against the music.
- 41:46SPEAKER_05: I mean the music's good and everything, but it's just not not something I'm interested in.
- 41:51SPEAKER_04: Not your cup of tea.
- 41:52SPEAKER_04: No.
- 41:53SPEAKER_08: No.
- 41:53SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 41:54SPEAKER_05: No, not not not this one.
- 41:55SPEAKER_05: I completely plant.
- 41:58SPEAKER_08: I completely understand.
- 42:00SPEAKER_08: Um shoot.
- 42:04SPEAKER_08: Bang.
- 42:04SPEAKER_08: I just I just realized that I didn't uh I didn't um zip your flight.
- 42:11SPEAKER_08: No.
- 42:12SPEAKER_08: I didn't I didn't pick a song for the what is the Oh, that's an interesting one.
- 42:18SPEAKER_08: What was it?
- 42:19SPEAKER_08: The song you hate to love.
- 42:20SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 42:21SPEAKER_08: I didn't pick one.
- 42:23SPEAKER_08: Um so I probably should do that like like right now because Is it time already?
- 42:29SPEAKER_08: It's yeah.
- 42:30SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 42:30SPEAKER_08: It's uh I mean there's nothing else.
- 42:33SPEAKER_08: Do you have anything else?
- 42:34SPEAKER_05: Well, we didn't talk about our last gig with the syndicate.
- 42:37SPEAKER_08: Well, let's do that.
- 42:39SPEAKER_08: We had our last gig with the syndicate.
- 42:40SPEAKER_08: Alright, time for messaging.
- 42:48SPEAKER_04: There we go.
- 42:49SPEAKER_04: You brought it up.
- 42:50SPEAKER_04: You talk.
- 42:52SPEAKER_04: Well, we had our last gig with the syndicate.
- 42:55SPEAKER_04: Which I think It was good.
- 42:57SPEAKER_05: I think it went well.
- 42:58SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, I think so.
- 42:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:59SPEAKER_05: I think we were firing on all cylinders.
- 43:01SPEAKER_08: I think there were You and I had a good time.
- 43:06SPEAKER_08: And I think we were trying to get the rest of the band into it.
- 43:11SPEAKER_08: Um I'm not saying they didn't have a good time, but I think we were at least I was kind of carefree.
- 43:18SPEAKER_08: Did you see the the time when I lost my place on my guitar?
- 43:23SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 43:24SPEAKER_08: You know, and I just turned Anthony and went, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop.
- 43:28SPEAKER_05: I was just like, what is he doing?
- 43:30SPEAKER_08: I gave up.
- 43:32SPEAKER_05: I thought you were just trying to make him laugh.
- 43:33SPEAKER_05: I well, I kind of was.
- 43:34SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 43:35SPEAKER_08: I kind of was, but I didn't care anymore.
- 43:37SPEAKER_08: I was like, this is the last game.
- 43:39SPEAKER_08: I don't care.
- 43:40SPEAKER_08: So yeah, I kind of played like a wrong note, and then I I said, I did it on purpose.
- 43:45SPEAKER_08: So I started playing all these other wrong notes.
- 43:47SPEAKER_05: Like Well, when you started dancing, you were like, I am a white man.
- 43:53SPEAKER_05: I started laughing, and then Joel looks at me a little funny.
- 43:57SPEAKER_05: And I I told him what you said, he starts laughing.
- 44:00SPEAKER_08: Well I started we were what was it we were doing?
- 44:03SPEAKER_08: Was it uh I don't even remember it wasn't uh it was uh it was um Your Love Keeps Lifting Me High?
- 44:10SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah, that's it.
- 44:12SPEAKER_08: Your love keeps lifting me higher.
- 44:14SPEAKER_08: Which begs for the Carlton dance.
- 44:16SPEAKER_08: True.
- 44:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah from from uh Fresh Prince.
- 44:18SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 44:18SPEAKER_08: So I'm playing guitar, but I'm doing the Carlton dance.
- 44:23SPEAKER_08: I didn't I didn't say this in the microphone.
- 44:25SPEAKER_08: I said it to you.
- 44:26SPEAKER_04: I am a white man.
- 44:30SPEAKER_04: Of course I cracked me up.
- 44:32SPEAKER_05: Of course, Joel saw me cracking up, so I'd tell Joel and Joel started cracking up.
- 44:36SPEAKER_08: But I think that's what it was about.
- 44:38SPEAKER_08: I mean it was our it was our last gig of the season.
- 44:39SPEAKER_05: I think, yeah, we we're always a little goofy with the last show of the season.
- 44:44SPEAKER_05: I know I was last year.
- 44:45SPEAKER_05: I remember like I pulled out my phone and I started like going Facebook Live, like at the last time.
- 44:50SPEAKER_05: And I was running around the whole stage and the whole film was like you know, it's like San Francisco 1908, you know.
- 44:57SPEAKER_08: It was it was too bad that it had to be inside, but it po it poured.
- 45:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it was so obviously was the right choice.
- 45:03SPEAKER_08: But we were in the barn, and by the barn, it I mean it's a gym that they call the barn.
- 45:10SPEAKER_08: But playing uh, you know, the horn section and the band playing in a gym is really tough to uh to uh control.
- 45:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:21SPEAKER_08: And uh I got to the point where cause we were making all kinds of jokes over the microphone and and I I Yeah, mom mom said something like when you guys talk to the audience, you gotta slow down.
- 45:31SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, Well, we're really just doing it to amuse ourselves.
- 45:34SPEAKER_05: We're not really talking to you.
- 45:36SPEAKER_08: Yeah, well then I said I said into the microphone, I said, Can you even understand what I'm saying right now because of the the reverb in the in the room, and I saw your aunt Janice in the front, and she's like, No.
- 45:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I and that's what I figured.
- 45:50SPEAKER_05: I mean, they get they can't hear me in the house, so I'm what I expect them you know to hear me in a gym, so I'm like, you know, yeah, whatever.
- 45:59SPEAKER_08: But it was fun.
- 46:00SPEAKER_08: I mean I m we had a good time, and then one thing I did um um complain to Morton about via email was I thought that this set list was made specifically for this show.
- 46:14SPEAKER_08: And it wasn't.
- 46:16SPEAKER_08: This set list was made for the Washburn show, which didn't happen because we didn't have Anthony.
- 46:27SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 46:28SPEAKER_08: So Mark had made the set list.
- 46:30SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 46:30SPEAKER_08: Uh, and then we had to scrap that set list because Anthony couldn't do it.
- 46:35SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 46:35SPEAKER_08: So they made a new set list, and so uh we just took that set list that was already made and used it for the Easton gig.
- 46:42SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 46:43SPEAKER_08: And I was like, this is our last show.
- 46:45SPEAKER_08: Why are we playing all these songs that ever we've already played for all these people?
- 46:49SPEAKER_08: Do you know what I mean?
- 46:50SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 46:51SPEAKER_05: I mean, there's a lot of them we hadn't played all summer.
- 46:53SPEAKER_05: There were some that we hadn't played at all.
- 46:55SPEAKER_08: Well, I mean, there were a couple.
- 46:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but I mean like I was like, Where's Brandy?
- 46:59SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, we didn't.
- 47:00SPEAKER_08: I said, Where is still the one?
- 47:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 47:02SPEAKER_08: Where is, you know, I mean, all the new songs that we that we worked on for this season that weren't in they weren't in the set.
- 47:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 47:09SPEAKER_08: And you know, I got over it, obviously.
- 47:12SPEAKER_08: I mean, we it was fine.
- 47:13SPEAKER_08: We had we had a good time and um but I mean if if we're working on these songs, uh I think we should play them if they go over well.
- 47:22SPEAKER_05: Like, I mean we did um Well we did Brandy and Washburn, and that seemed to go over pretty much.
- 47:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I thought we could I thought we could have pulled off Brandy.
- 47:29SPEAKER_08: Um I actually we sound checked with You Can Call Me Out.
- 47:32SPEAKER_05: I actually think we could have it was a little rough, but yeah.
- 47:36SPEAKER_05: We we made it through though.
- 47:37SPEAKER_08: I think it was I mean we could have done it, but and I think you know the crowd would have appreciated something else, something new.
- 47:44SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 47:44SPEAKER_08: But again, I overthink things and you know that.
- 47:48SPEAKER_08: I do know that.
- 47:48SPEAKER_08: You're not supposed to agree with that.
- 47:50SPEAKER_05: Too late.
- 47:53SPEAKER_08: So, but you know, I said I actually No, you don't overthink things at all.
- 47:57SPEAKER_08: In my email to him, I said, uh, I'm about to rant.
- 48:01SPEAKER_08: And I said, feel free just to kind of virtually pat me on the head and say it's gonna be okay.
- 48:08SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 48:09SPEAKER_08: So it wasn't really a rant.
- 48:10SPEAKER_08: It was just like we should we should be playing these, these songs.
- 48:13SPEAKER_08: And uh he's like, I agree.
- 48:16SPEAKER_08: But oh well.
- 48:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's exactly what he does.
- 48:20SPEAKER_08: That's kind of you know, that's his that's what he says.
- 48:22SPEAKER_08: And he's right.
- 48:22SPEAKER_08: I mean, you know, what are you gonna do about it?
- 48:24SPEAKER_08: Don't make I mean, they're a bigger fish to fry, I guess.
- 48:26SPEAKER_08: Exactly.
- 48:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 48:27SPEAKER_08: So exactly.
- 48:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 48:29SPEAKER_08: So uh yeah.
- 48:31SPEAKER_08: Anything else else about our late last gig?
- 48:34SPEAKER_08: We have uh a couple gigs coming up.
- 48:37SPEAKER_08: Um the 20th week.
- 48:40SPEAKER_05: So is that it for sure?
- 48:42SPEAKER_08: I didn't I didn't reach out to them, but they were advertising it.
- 48:45SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 48:45SPEAKER_08: So um I'm going to I will be missing my boys' soccer game, which is exactly the same time.
- 48:51SPEAKER_08: Uh but that's okay.
- 48:53SPEAKER_08: Uh and my wife will be out of town at the baby shower.
- 48:55SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 48:56SPEAKER_08: Uh so Myra Myra will either be with me or she'll be with Nana.
- 49:03SPEAKER_08: Actually, no, Nana's going to the baby shower.
- 49:05SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 49:05SPEAKER_08: Myra will probably be she can hang out with us.
- 49:08SPEAKER_08: No, she can't go in there, can she?
- 49:11SPEAKER_05: She can go wherever we say she can go.
- 49:12SPEAKER_08: It's uh it's uh Oktoberfest.
- 49:15SPEAKER_08: It's a beer tasting thing.
- 49:16SPEAKER_05: So kids drink beer.
- 49:18SPEAKER_08: Root beer?
- 49:19SPEAKER_08: We didn't say what kind of beer.
- 49:21SPEAKER_08: If it's root beer, hey, it's beer.
- 49:23SPEAKER_08: I will figure that out.
- 49:24SPEAKER_08: Um maybe she'll be maybe she'll hang out with the Blanchards.
- 49:27SPEAKER_08: It's only for an hour.
- 49:28SPEAKER_08: Maybe she'll go to you know what?
- 49:29SPEAKER_08: She'll go to the soccer game.
- 49:30SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 49:31SPEAKER_08: I'll uh I'll take her up to the soccer game and then just leave her there.
- 49:34SPEAKER_08: Just leave her there, and when we're done, we'll I'll I'll you know, let somebody else bring her home.
- 49:38SPEAKER_08: Father of the air.
- 49:40SPEAKER_04: Father of the year.
- 49:41SPEAKER_04: I hitchhacked home, dad.
- 49:45SPEAKER_08: Um so yeah, so we got that September 20th.
- 49:49SPEAKER_08: Um we have the Reverend Funk thing coming up.
- 49:52SPEAKER_08: Oh, and we're playing October 4th.
- 49:54SPEAKER_05: Uh for Oh yeah, for the Feed the County.
- 49:57SPEAKER_08: Feed the County.
- 49:57SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 49:58SPEAKER_08: Uh and then Hopefully it'll be warmer this year.
- 50:00SPEAKER_08: October 8th.
- 50:02SPEAKER_08: I did get the day off, so we are luckily we are playing down at uh the Grosh Insurance Center.
- 50:08SPEAKER_08: Uh little intimidating.
- 50:09SPEAKER_08: It is a little bit intimidating.
- 50:11SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 50:12SPEAKER_08: Um am I wrong or did I hear that we're we're having sound provided for us?
- 50:19SPEAKER_05: I heard something, but I wasn't really paying attention either.
- 50:22SPEAKER_08: No.
- 50:23SPEAKER_08: It would make me feel better if we were having sound provided for us.
- 50:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I don't think I don't think we have to provide that.
- 50:28SPEAKER_08: I think we just have to bring our backline.
- 50:29SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 50:30SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 50:30SPEAKER_05: So.
- 50:31SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 50:32unknown: Yeah.
- 50:32SPEAKER_05: But I'm sure John will let us know.
- 50:34SPEAKER_08: I am uh no, I am a little anxious about that.
- 50:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean that's that's a big dig big dig.
- 50:39SPEAKER_08: It's a big dig.
- 50:40SPEAKER_08: It's a big dig.
- 50:41SPEAKER_08: And a big gig.
- 50:43SPEAKER_05: It's a big something.
- 50:47SPEAKER_08: Sorry, Blanchard.
- 50:48SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's crappy.
- 50:49SPEAKER_08: That's creepy.
- 50:50SPEAKER_08: Um just a little bit.
- 50:52SPEAKER_08: Um, and then we're Skinny Elvis is playing at the hotel, um, the lounge at the Northeastland in the end of end of November.
- 51:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, 29th or something.
- 51:01SPEAKER_05: Something like that.
- 51:01SPEAKER_05: It's after Thanksgiving.
- 51:02SPEAKER_05: It's like Thanksgiving weekend, I think.
- 51:04SPEAKER_08: Is that it for us, for you and I?
- 51:05SPEAKER_08: I mean, we have oh Holton.
- 51:07SPEAKER_08: We're playing Holton.
- 51:08SPEAKER_05: Are we?
- 51:08SPEAKER_08: In November, I think.
- 51:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah, just November?
- 51:11SPEAKER_08: I think so.
- 51:12SPEAKER_05: For their December show.
- 51:14SPEAKER_08: No, I think we just took a November gig.
- 51:16SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 51:17SPEAKER_08: Uh let me confirm that, and it would be a Friday.
- 51:25SPEAKER_08: Uh November 14th.
- 51:27SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 51:27SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 51:27SPEAKER_08: November 14th, we are in Halton.
- 51:30SPEAKER_05: At the Down Under.
- 51:31SPEAKER_08: At the Down Under.
- 51:32SPEAKER_05: So we're we're I mean, we got some stuff coming up.
- 51:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 51:35SPEAKER_08: Uh what's great about it, and we're we've talked about how we're we're kind of in a neat place where we can be picky.
- 51:41SPEAKER_05: You know, and we can Yeah, uh I think the time for us just taking every and every gig that comes down the pipeline is no longer.
- 51:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I think that's true.
- 51:53SPEAKER_08: I think, you know.
- 51:54SPEAKER_08: We're we're getting old, man.
- 51:55SPEAKER_08: We do get we get asked.
- 51:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 51:57SPEAKER_08: You know, and we'll come up with a reason not to do it if we don't want to do it.
- 52:03SPEAKER_05: Um just some you want to do, and then just some you're just like, this sounds bad.
- 52:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 52:10SPEAKER_05: And I'm you know And I'm just ti I'm tired of doing gigs for just to be in the background.
- 52:18SPEAKER_08: Yes, and as am I.
- 52:20SPEAKER_08: And you know, I I'm I'm tired of um I'm tired of not playing original music.
- 52:29SPEAKER_08: But I uh and I understand why we can't play original music music.
- 52:33SPEAKER_08: Um because nobody knows it.
- 52:34SPEAKER_08: You know, and you you know people want to know the songs that you're playing, and I get it I get it.
- 52:38SPEAKER_08: Exactly.
- 52:39SPEAKER_08: But it's it's it's rough.
- 52:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 52:42SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 52:43SPEAKER_08: So but we are still in a good place.
- 52:45SPEAKER_08: I mean we can we can pick and choose which which which shows we want to do and hopefully we'll get some maple pig gigs.
- 52:52SPEAKER_05: That would be fun.
- 52:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 52:53SPEAKER_05: That's always fun playing there.
- 52:54SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 52:54SPEAKER_05: Uh maybe play the Northern Maine Brewing Company again.
- 52:58SPEAKER_05: That's fun.
- 52:59SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 53:00SPEAKER_05: I don't know if they'll do anything once it gets cold.
- 53:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I don't either.
- 53:04SPEAKER_05: Um hard saying.
- 53:05SPEAKER_08: Because I don't know if there's a place to play inside.
- 53:07SPEAKER_08: I haven't I didn't see it.
- 53:08SPEAKER_05: Not really.
- 53:08SPEAKER_05: It's it's pretty tight in there.
- 53:10SPEAKER_08: Tight.
- 53:10SPEAKER_08: Well, I mean, also Ferris is tight too.
- 53:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 53:13SPEAKER_08: So oh.
- 53:14SPEAKER_08: Uh if you ever get a chance, uh if you if you are out, you know, and you see that uh music is being provided by Heath Bartley, go.
- 53:26SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah, Heath's back.
- 53:27SPEAKER_08: Um because this actually made me happy because Heath is a friend of ours who did basically what we do um for a long time.
- 53:37SPEAKER_08: Uh was a solo acoustic uh player.
- 53:40SPEAKER_08: He's a fantastic guitar player, like like like a shredder.
- 53:43SPEAKER_08: I mean, he's an Ingve Malmstein, he's a shredder.
- 53:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 53:46SPEAKER_08: Um but he played acoustic shows and lots of lots of covers and was very, very popular, and then he just disappeared.
- 53:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 53:54SPEAKER_08: Um for for one re I obviously he has his own reasons.
- 53:57SPEAKER_05: Well i i he stopped playing when covet hit.
- 54:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 54:01SPEAKER_05: And they shut everything down and he just didn't go back.
- 54:03SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 54:03SPEAKER_08: So and then he became a music teacher and was back in school as well, and so it just decided not to do it anymore.
- 54:12SPEAKER_08: And um which was a shame because people really enjoyed his stuff.
- 54:17SPEAKER_08: We enjoyed, you know, sharing sharing bills with him here and there and uh things like that.
- 54:22SPEAKER_08: And um so he has moved in a different direction with employment and such, and now he's back doing shows.
- 54:32SPEAKER_08: I heard that the other day.
- 54:33SPEAKER_08: He was at he was at Ferris.
- 54:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 54:35SPEAKER_08: Um which makes me very happy.
- 54:37SPEAKER_08: So Heath, we love to have you back.
- 54:39SPEAKER_08: Um and I can't wait to to go out.
- 54:42SPEAKER_08: Welcome back to the grind, brother.
- 54:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I can't wait to go back out and and uh see you play.
- 54:47SPEAKER_08: Uh so let's do this now because we know we're we're I'm not digressing, but kinda.
- 54:53SPEAKER_05: Well, this is where we kind of were going and then I diverted us to a different location.
- 55:00SPEAKER_05: But it's big time.
- 55:13SPEAKER_08: Alright, I have to pick a song because I haven't done it yet.
- 55:17SPEAKER_08: Um first we're gonna do past, obviously.
- 55:24SPEAKER_08: Oh, wait, does she have an audio thing?
- 55:26SPEAKER_08: Yes, she does.
- 55:27SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 55:34SPEAKER_08: So I hate to love.
- 55:36SPEAKER_08: Here I am.
- 55:38SPEAKER_08: Here I am picking it as we speak.
- 55:42SPEAKER_05: So pass.
- 55:48SPEAKER_05: There it is.
- 55:48SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 55:49SPEAKER_05: Ready?
- 55:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 55:50SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 55:53SPEAKER_05: I gotta turn the volume up.
- 55:55SPEAKER_04: Turn it up.
- 55:56SPEAKER_04: Is that Freedom Rock, man?
- 55:59SPEAKER_04: Well, turn it up, man.
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, this is another awesome week of mixed tape choices.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: Uh this week was actually really hard.
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: You know, everybody has their own ideas, everybody has their own ideas.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: So lovely Helen, absolutely a metalhead.
- 57:17SPEAKER_00: So but beautiful, beautiful choices this week.
- 57:20SPEAKER_00: Uh definitely was a hard one.
- 57:23SPEAKER_08: Um Lindsay Sterling.
- 57:25SPEAKER_08: Oh, I love Lindsay Sterling.
- 57:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:28SPEAKER_08: She's uh I see why she's my favorite.
- 57:30SPEAKER_08: I'm I'm digging her even more, more and more and more.
- 57:36SPEAKER_08: Um, yeah, okay.
- 57:40SPEAKER_08: Oh, oh, I'm sorry.
- 57:42SPEAKER_08: No, I was that not.
- 57:44SPEAKER_08: Okay, sorry.
- 57:45SPEAKER_08: I'm looking for a song.
- 57:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I just realized that I said that.
- 57:51SPEAKER_08: I'm I'm looking at this list and you're talking, and I was like, I mean, I'm talking to myself.
- 57:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah, okay, okay.
- 58:01SPEAKER_08: That did come off wrong.
- 58:02SPEAKER_08: I apologize.
- 58:03SPEAKER_08: Uh looking through my song list here trying to find one for nobody cares what you do.
- 58:11SPEAKER_08: Yeah, okay.
- 58:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, okay.
- 58:14SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 58:15SPEAKER_08: I think I have one.
- 58:16SPEAKER_08: I'm just gonna find cousin Larry.
- 58:19SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 58:19SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 58:23SPEAKER_08: Should get cousin Larry to do mixtape on a recording as well.
- 58:27SPEAKER_05: I thought we were gonna leave that to the judge.
- 58:30SPEAKER_08: That's not what I mean.
- 58:31SPEAKER_08: Oh, oh, leave.
- 58:32SPEAKER_08: Oh, just just just have her, you mean she be the only one that does it.
- 58:37SPEAKER_05: Have him do the voice thing?
- 58:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 58:38SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, we probably could do that.
- 58:40SPEAKER_08: But maybe no, maybe not.
- 58:42SPEAKER_08: Maybe not.
- 58:43SPEAKER_08: Let's let's let's leave the judge in this that'll be her thing.
- 58:46SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 58:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 58:48SPEAKER_05: Alright, mixtape question.
- 58:52SPEAKER_05: I fear I fear you more than any I fear you more than any mixtape question I've been asked.
- 59:00SPEAKER_08: What was the question?
- 59:01SPEAKER_08: Oh, oh, this is the one we're working on right now.
- 59:03SPEAKER_05: The one we love to hate.
- 59:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah, okay.
- 59:04SPEAKER_05: Or love, yeah.
- 59:05SPEAKER_08: Hate to love.
- 59:06SPEAKER_08: Hate to love.
- 59:06SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 59:07SPEAKER_05: Uh at the risk of besmirching the family name and selling my reputation as a rocker, here goes.
- 59:14SPEAKER_05: I w I was a young teen in the late 70s, and some of the disco tunes appealed to me.
- 59:19SPEAKER_05: I really like Tragedy by the Bee Gees.
- 59:22SPEAKER_05: I do like that song.
- 59:22SPEAKER_08: I do too.
- 59:23SPEAKER_05: Uh Hot Stuff by the Queen of Disco, Donna Summer.
- 59:26SPEAKER_05: I was in college in early to mid-80s, and loved songs by Tar like Tarzan Boy by Baltimora, and The Promise by Win in Rome.
- 59:37SPEAKER_05: But the song I really hate to love is probably Abba's Take a Chance on Me.
- 59:42SPEAKER_05: Don't look at me, Doug.
- 59:43SPEAKER_05: LOL.
- 59:45SPEAKER_05: Honorable mention to Cars by Gary Newman.
- 59:50SPEAKER_08: Um, I love this song as well.
- 59:54SPEAKER_11: On the first thing, on the unstream free.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_11: Let it be the beat of the round.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_11: Let us do the chance on me.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_05: I'm just gonna let it go unless you're I'm just you know, I'm just waiting, man.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_08: You groove into it?
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_08: Just like take a change.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_08: I do, I I do love me some ABBA.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_08: I will not uh I will not argue with that.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_08: Alright, what's yours?
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_05: It's gotta be love to hate or hate to love.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_08: Hate to love.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_05: Side of a bullet side of a bullet.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_08: You say that.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_05: So hold on.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_08: That's not nickelback.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_08: I know I'm working on it.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_08: You hate to love.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_05: I hate to love this song, man, but I'm not sure.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_08: Um it's it's so funny that you you picked Nickelback.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_05: Did you pick Nickelback?
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_08: I pick Nickelback as well.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_08: Nice! Not this song, even though I do I do love this song.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_08: Um and I don't know why I I I I don't know.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_08: I'll just play it.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_08: This is animals.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_08: We used to play this on the show.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_08: Um I think it's a crude, it's just a crude song, and it's nickel back, which puts a bad taste in my mouth anyway.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_08: But I really like this call.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_05: I find it funny that we picked on off the same album by the same.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_08: Well, it was either this or something in your mouth.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_08: Ah yeah, yeah, which I also kind of like, but I just I don't like it.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_08: Is this the first time we've played Nickelback on our podcast?
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_08: No.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_08: It is.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_05: Well, maybe.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_05: Maybe it is.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_08: I think it might be.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_05: This may be your first.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you okay?
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, why?
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_05: Just make it sure.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_05: It was it was part of the the game.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_05: Yes, this is true.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_05: So we had to do it.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_08: This is true.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_08: So this is true.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_05: You know.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_05: Um I don't I don't, you know, people are just gonna be I don't know, maybe Nickelback will sue us.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_05: Well they'll be like, hey, those guys don't like us.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_05: Why are they playing your song on our podcast?
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_08: Just just for this isn't this is an honorable mention for me.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_15: It's all the budget, budget, pay him, just the touch and come out.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_08: Yeah, see, I mean it's it's just the same MO, really.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's just you know, it's Nickelback.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_05: I mean, you know.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_08: So mine is Nickelback Animals.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_08: Yours is Nickelback's side of a bullet.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_08: And one of these things is not like the other.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_08: Take a chance on me from ABBA.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_08: I would have gone, I mean, I love ABBA, don't get me wrong.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_05: Um I can, you know, I can take or leave them, you know.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_08: I well, it's pop music, man.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_05: Oh, it's pop music at the at its purest.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I love I love big choruses and catchy pop songs.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_08: And people from Sweden.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_08: And people from Sweden.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_08: So, you know.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_08: So there you go.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_08: That is uh myth mixtape, so we need to do the future.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_05: Future mixtape question.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_05: Mm-mm.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_05: Mm-mm-mm.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_08: Mm-mm.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_08: Oh, you know what I want to do?
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_08: I want to do something else too.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_08: Hold on because we'll do this.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_05: I'll see if I'll allow it.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_08: I had to I had some communication with Jude Cole.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_05: Oh, did you?
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so I'd like to talk about that.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_08: Jude just for a bit.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_05: Jude.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_14: That's poop.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna take that right there.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_08: That little that little sign that you just did, and I'm gonna I'm gonna make it a drop.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_08: We can just drop it in wherever we want.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_05: Well, I don't know, but um this one's okay.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_05: We'll see what it is.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_05: It's okay then.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_05: We'll see how it goes.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_05: Uh what song plays as you drop?
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_05: Home from that epic all-night party where you killed it with the person you've been crushing on all year.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah, see, I gotta put more effort into these guesses or into these questions.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_05: Um and you did really what I'm thinking is um a John Cusack movie.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_05: Oh uh every uh anything uh what do you hold to the book?
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_05: Say anything?
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_05: Say anything, yes.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_08: Say anything.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_08: You know, so what I'm thinking is what was the other 80s movie?
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_08: It was um Sixteen Candles?
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_08: No, it was the one where um uh Andrew McCarthy had a best friend in um the the rocker chick um oh uh uh pretty and pink.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_08: It wasn't it wasn't pretty and pink, I don't think.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_05: Was Molly Ringwald in it?
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_08: No.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_08: Oh no It was uh um the Say No Most Fire Thomas uh uh See Thomas Howe?
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_08: No, no, hold on.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_08: I can't think when you're throwing things at me like that.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_08: Um no, from uh Back to the Future.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_08: Um Michael Michael J.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_08: Fox.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_08: No, the the girl.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_08: Do you remember her?
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_05: What girl?
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_05: Oh, uh what's her face?
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_05: Uh Leah Leah Thompson.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_05: What girl?
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_05: I was thinking about his girlfriend like in the present.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_05: No.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_05: And then he went and met his mom.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_05: She was pretty hot.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_05: His mom, yeah.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_08: Leah Thompson.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_08: Leah Thompson.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_08: Okay, so so uh it had Leah Thompson as the girl he really wanted because she was of this status.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_08: But his best friend was like this rocker chick with short blonde hair.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_08: It was uh um is it some kind of wonderful?
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_08: Is that the name of the movie?
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_08: Could be.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_05: Uh, where he goes and just type in Andrew McCarthy movies.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_05: There isn't that many.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_08: Uh Andrew I think it's I think it's it is some kind of wonderful.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_08: Uh Mary Stuart Masterson is the short ship.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_08: Is the short blonde hair.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_08: Oh, and it's not it's not Andrew McCarthy.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_08: It's uh Eric Stoltz.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_08: Actually.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_08: Anyway, at the end, he's walking away from the party where he kind of uh realizes that he's in love with his best friend, the rocker chick, Mary Stuart Masterson.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_08: And that's what that's what popped in my head as soon as you read that question.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_08: Well there you go.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_08: Um yeah.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_08: All right, can I tell you about my Jude Cole thing?
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_08: Go ahead.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_08: Um, so before I get distracted again.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_08: So Tom Cruise.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_08: Cause I have, and this is gonna not gonna mean anything to anybody uh but me.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_08: Um Jude Cole is my friend on Facebook.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_08: I consider that awesome.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's a big thing, man.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_08: I'm a huge, huge Jude Cole fan.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_08: Um and so I'm listening, and this is just this is a this is very nerdy, very fanboy of me to do, but I did it anyway, and I don't regret it at all.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_08: Um I was doing the dishes.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_08: Well, let me just read you the email uh the message I sent to Jude Cole.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_08: Now, if you don't know who Jude Cole is, you should look him up because he's Well, we've played him on podcasts.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_05: We have quite a few times.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_08: Um I said, feel free to ignore this message, but I had a question.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_08: It's 7 35 p.m.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_08: in northern Maine, and I'm doing the supper dishes while listening to Blame It on Fate, one of his songs.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_08: The breakdown part with the piano, the background vocals.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_08: Were you into Mr.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_08: Mr.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_08: at the time?
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_08: I haven't looked at the liner notes in a bit and wasn't sure if Paige, which would be Richard Page for Mr.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_08: Mr.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_08: was on there or if that's even what you were going for.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_08: I figured I'd go right to the source.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_08: And and I said I'm pumped for the new album.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_08: He's working on a new album, which is great.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_08: Um and then I went and listened to it.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_08: So I want to before I read you his repl response, I'm gonna play you what I heard and exactly what I'm talking about.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_08: Uh so and again, I wouldn't recommend doing this just because I'm sure he's like, oh God, why are you asking me this?
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_08: Um so from the album Start the Car, which came out in 1992, there's this song called Blame It on Fate.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_08: And I'm gonna fast forward to the breakdown part.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_08: I just love these vocals.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_08: Listen.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_08: This is what I'm talking about right here.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_08: Okay, that's all I'm talking about.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah, right.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_08: And so what I was comparing it to, and these were right around the same time I well, actually, not really, because this Welcome to the Real World came out in eighty five, but I know that he was uh oh my word, and of course my iTunes doesn't have that song.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_08: Hold on.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_08: Um I know that he was making music at the same time.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_08: That doesn't mean that Mr.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_08: Mr.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_08: was.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_08: Thank you for indulging me, Doug.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_05: You look like you're kind of uh Well, I'm just wondering where you're going with this, so I just wanna I just want to share.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_05: I know.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_04: I'm not complaining.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_04: Um I'm just wondering.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_08: So from Mr.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_08: Mr.'s di debut album that really truly was was concentrating on the thing over here.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_08: Okay, yeah, okay, yeah, okay, okay.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_08: Alright.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_08: So, I think that's a good thing.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_08: So, as I'm listening to blame it on fate, that's what you're hearing.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_08: I I heard that.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_08: And so then I before he could reply, I said, Okay, I listened to it.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_08: It was Mr.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_08: Mistress, don't slow down.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_08: It's not that similar.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_08: I said, must just be the key.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_08: You know, the key, right?
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_08: You know, yeah.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_08: Uh and I said, I love both though.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_08: Sorry to bug you.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_08: And he replied, No, actually, I wasn't bugged at all.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_08: The background vocalist with me was dot dot dot damn.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_08: I can't recall the names now.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_08: He was the replacement lead vocalist for Kansas.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_05: Oh, wow.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_08: And I said, Oh, either way, super cool.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_08: So that was my interaction with Chico.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_08: Nice.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_05: But I mean, he replied, and that was a very cool event.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah, especially, you know, something so obscure.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_05: It was very obscure.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_08: Very out there.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_05: But that's probably why he replied to it, because he's like, it's not like a typical, you know, hey, what's your favorite color?
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_05: So what's your favorite key to play?
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_08: That reminds me, I think uh when we're we're gonna take a break here, uh, and we're gonna come back.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_08: We're gonna climb the wall of tunes, and Doug's gonna read to you.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_08: Uh but during the break, I'm gonna look at the liner notes, I think.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_08: Oh, I still have them.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_08: I think I still have them.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_08: Just to see if Richard Page is is in there.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_08: He's probably not, but Hey, you never know till you look.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_08: This is true.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_08: You never know, man.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_08: Uh we'll be back in just a couple minutes to climb that wall.

- 1:15:34SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna read stuff.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_08: Yay! Alright, this is a long one this week.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_08: Okay, it's from Hard Days Right.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_08: Hard Days Right.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_08: By I always want to give credit.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_08: Steve Turner.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_08: Okay, cool.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_05: You think I would remember that by now, but it's not happening.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_05: So this is one of this is a very early this is from the anthology that came out back in the 90s.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_05: So this is gonna be very, very rough.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_05: So this is a long write-up, so bear with us.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_05: Song is called In Spite of All the Danger.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_05: Here we go.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_05: A rough recording we transferred from a slightly worn 78 RPM shellac disc cut in the spring or summer of 1958.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_05: This has historical value in that it was the earliest taping of the soon-to-be Beatles, as well as the being the group's first songwriting effort to make it into the archives.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_05: It was recorded on a 400-pound That's money, not weight.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_08: Thank you.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_05: Portable tape recorder at a small studio in the terraced home of a 63-year-old electrical goods shop owner in the Kensington district of Liverpool.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_05: The quarry men, which then consisted of John, Paul, George, pianist John Duff Lowe, and drummer Colin Hanton, paid seven paid seventeen shillings and six pence to cut two songs.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_05: I have no much I have no idea how much that is in American.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_08: I don't either.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_05: So we're just gonna let that go.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_05: It sounds expensive.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_05: You know, for teenagers.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_05: The first song they chose was That'll Be the Day, a September 1957 hit in Britain for the crickets with Buddy Holly.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_05: And the second was a McCartney Harrison number in spite of all the danger.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_05: It says on the label that it was me and George, but I think it was written by Me and George, played the guitar, and it was written by me and George played the guitar soul, said Paul in 1995.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_05: It was my song, and it was very similar to an Elvis song.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_05: It was, in fact, very similar to one particular Elvis song, Trying to Get to You, which was written by Rosemarie McCoy and Margie Singleton and recorded by Elvis on July 11, 1955.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_05: John Lowe remembers, in spite of all the danger, as being the only original song the Quarryman played at the time.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_05: I can well remember, even at the rehearsal at his house in Fourth and Road, Paul was quite specific about how he wanted it played and what he wanted the piano to do, so he says.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_05: There was no question of improvising.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_05: We were told what we had to play.
- 1:18:19SPEAKER_05: There was a lot of arranging going on even back then.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_05: It was recorded on a single microphone, and Lowe thinks it must have gone straight to disc because he can't recall waiting around for it to be transferred from tape, and there are mistakes in John's vocal, which otherwise would have been corrected.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_05: The disc was then passed on from member to member and eventually came down to Lowe, who kept it in a sock drawer until 1981, when a colleague suggested to him that it might have some commercial value.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_05: He had valued it at Sotheby's, which led to the discovery of the disc being reported by Sunday Times columnist Stephen Pyle in July 1981.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_05: Before midday on in that Sunday, before Monday, I think that it's there's a misprint here.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_05: I think it's supposed to say on.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_05: It says an.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_05: Before midday on that Sunday, Paul McCartney had called my mum in Liverpool, says Lowe.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_05: I eventually spoke to him on the phone.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_05: We had long conversations over the next few days because he wanted to buy it from me.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_05: I was living in Worcester.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_05: Whoosh Woschurch.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_05: Whoosh Wosh Wosch.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_05: Worcester.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_05: Wurstra.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_05: Whoostah.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_05: I think that's England, not Massachusetts.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_05: Uh at the time, and he sent his solicitor and his business manager up.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_05: I deposited the disc in a small briefcase at the local Barclays bank, and we met up in a small room the bank kindly let me use.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_05: The deal was done.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_05: I handed the record over and we all went home.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_05: Although Paul didn't have a specific project in mind at the time, part of the deal was that Lowe had to assign over all rights to the track and promise not to perform the song for the next 15 years.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_05: That took us up to August 1996, says Lowe.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_05: Isn't it strange that two months later the final album in the anthology set came out?
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_05: So that's kind of interesting.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_08: In spite of all the danger.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_05: There we go.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_08: Um very cool.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_08: I did look up uh the whole Jude Cole thing.
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_08: Uh in case you ever wonder what like l about liner notes and who played on what, there's a website called Session Days.
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_08: And if you just look over here, so I got uh Jude Cole Start the Car in 1992.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_08: It's got the track listing.
- 1:20:37SPEAKER_08: Who wrote the songs?
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_08: Musicians on the first track, on the second track, on the third track.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_08: Oh well.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah, these are basically the liner notes and who played.
- 1:20:45SPEAKER_08: And no, Richard Page is not on that song.
- 1:20:47SPEAKER_08: Ah, okay.
- 1:20:48SPEAKER_08: Blame it on Fate, it would be John Alafonte, Philip Ingram, and Chuck Sabatino.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_05: So which guy was the uh singer in Kansas?
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_08: Uh that's a great question.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_08: Um Philip Ingram has his uh name highlighted here.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_08: What uh what happens if I click here?
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_08: Philip Ingram.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_08: He replaced uh somebody in Kansas, he said.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_08: Uh these are all the uh albums that he sang on as a background singer.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_08: But I don't see any Kansas so I'm not gonna spend too much time on it.
- 1:21:32SPEAKER_08: Um but I just thought uh session days.com is kind of a cool uh site if you are into liner notes like I am and finding out stuff like that.
- 1:21:41SPEAKER_05: Especially when you don't have them.
- 1:21:42SPEAKER_08: Right, exactly.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_05: And of course, you know, nowadays they don't have liner notes.
- 1:21:45SPEAKER_08: That's that's why.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_08: That's why I love that website.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_08: Uh okay, so I guess I will tell you that I have an album.
- 1:21:54SPEAKER_08: So let the guessing be good.
- 1:21:57SPEAKER_04: Is it a band?
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_04: There's a rock band?
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_04: Cool.
- 1:22:04SPEAKER_08: Any more guesses?
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_04: No, I'm thinking who it is.
- 1:22:07SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_04: No, I don't know who it is.
- 1:22:09SPEAKER_05: Uh height of popularity.
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_05: Height of popularity?
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_08: I would say the 70s.
- 1:22:16SPEAKER_05: Are they still around?
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 1:22:19SPEAKER_05: Are they still playing?
- 1:22:21SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_08: Um they don't have all the original members.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_08: I think they have I think uh they have three original members.
- 1:22:30SPEAKER_04: I think Chicago.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_04: Nope.
- 1:22:45SPEAKER_08: Nope.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_08: I can give you a hint.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_08: Uh you'll you'll get it if I give you this hint, but that's okay, because we want to wrap up the podcast.
- 1:22:55SPEAKER_04: Uh we wanna end this crap.
- 1:22:58SPEAKER_08: Uh it was Lars Ulrich's first concert.
- 1:23:02SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 1:23:02SPEAKER_05: Uh what was his first concert?
- 1:23:04SPEAKER_08: I thought you would know that.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_05: No.
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_08: It was it was um uh ear splitting loud.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_08: Ear splittingly loud.
- 1:23:13SPEAKER_08: Actually, I think they were in the Guinness Book of Royal Records for the last.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_08: Oh, is this that one?
- 1:23:17SPEAKER_08: Nope.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_08: Their guitar player was pretty famous um for being good, but also being just kind of weird.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_08: And he went and started another band, and then now he's doing another thing with his wife.
- 1:23:42SPEAKER_08: Um they wrote a song about um something catching on fire across a lake in Sweden.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_05: Smoke on the water.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_08: Wow, it's escaping you, isn't it?
- 1:23:56SPEAKER_05: Who the freak does smoke on the water?
- 1:23:59SPEAKER_08: You know.
- 1:24:00SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 1:24:00SPEAKER_08: I know you know.
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_05: But it's one of those things where it's like right there.
- 1:24:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's literally I mean, I'm looking right at it in my brain.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_05: It's a collar.
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_05: Deep purple.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_05: Jeez in crow, man.
- 1:24:14SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:24:17SPEAKER_08: It is deep purple.
- 1:24:19SPEAKER_08: Yeah, Lars all.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_08: I didn't know that was his first concert.
- 1:24:22SPEAKER_08: I think it was I'm pretty sure it was his first concert, yeah.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_08: Uh Machine Head.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_08: Deep purple.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_08: Which of course has well I mean, do I need to play it?
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_08: I mean, I I will, but it's it's become, you know, um its you know, own like legend.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_08: It's a it's it's a a rite of passage.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean it's like it's like it's it's it's it's it's mythical.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_08: It is mythical.
- 1:24:47SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_08: And most people when they're learning to play guitar, play it incorrectly.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_04: They really do.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_08: And you know, I would be like, oh, I didn't mean to have enough of that.
- 1:25:21SPEAKER_08: Um seven songs, and I was like thinking to myself, well, yeah, they were all really long, but they're not.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_08: Um there's one that's seven minutes, one that's six minutes, and the rest of them are around four or five.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_05: So that's not bad.
- 1:25:35SPEAKER_08: But anyway, we everybody knows this song, so I don't have to play that one.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_08: I will I will play you um a couple of uh other tracks.
- 1:25:45SPEAKER_08: This one, Space Trucking.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_08: And of course, we're talking Richie Blackmore on guitar.
- 1:26:01SPEAKER_08: Um, who is just an odd duck.
- 1:26:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah, just uh, you know, this has this lineup has um Ian Pay on drums, John Lord on uh keyboards, Roger Glover on bass, Richie Blackmore of chorus, and Ian Gillen on vocals.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_08: Now, John Lord died, I believe.
- 1:26:31SPEAKER_08: Or no, did John Lord die?
