- 0:52Hi, everyone.
- 0:52It's Roxanne Derhart again.
- 0:55Welcome again to authentically living with Roxanne.
- 0:59What I have today is a very, very special young man, I think, in my opinion, And, 22, he's kind
- 1:06of, moving and shaking in the world in a, in a way that I'm, was very curious when I met him.
- 1:12And, gotten to know him a bit better and hope to get to know him a lot better.
- 1:17His name is Andy O'Dea.
- 1:18So, Andy, thanks so much for joining us all the way from California.
- 1:21So I I wonder what her weather's, like, there to to tonight.
- 1:25Man, it's pretty warm here.
- 1:26I hear in Canada is actually snowing.
- 1:28Is that true?
- 1:29Yeah.
- 1:31It's was minus, like, 8s.
- 1:33And today, we're, like, plus 5, and we feel like we're, like, we're, like, walking around
- 1:37in in shorts, and it's not so nice.
- 1:40Oh, man.
- 1:41See, I see, last week, I was in Rhode Island.
- 1:43T.
- 1:43Rhode Island is my hometown.
- 1:45And I I landed on 1 I think I landed on Wednesday, And then on Thursday morning, it
- 1:51started to snow.
- 1:52I said, man, I gotta go back to the West Coast, man.
- 1:54This ain't for me.
- 1:54This ain't for me.
- 1:55Okay.
- 1:56I'm gonna come and visit you.
- 1:57Yeah.
- 1:57You gotta come over here on the West Coast.
- 1:59You gotta go over.
- 1:59That's it.
- 2:00That's it.
- 2:01So I wanna tell the the viewers a bit about the listeners a bit about you, Andy at the at, the
- 2:06young age of twenty two is a published author.
- 2:09He's a millennial motivational speaker and a serial entrepreneur.
- 2:14He's work recognized as an imminent speaker with a delivery of high end and human potential
- 2:19raised in an impoverished environment dropping out of college, with a bit little or, a bit of
- 2:27formal, but dropping out of education.
- 2:29He took a path of entrepreneurship, of course, of self education that landed him the successes
- 2:35that he has today.
- 2:37His this path has not allowed him to change his circumstances, but have allowed him to
- 2:42effectively communicate the desires to be great to others.
- 2:45And like I said earlier, he lives in, Cali, which we're all jealous about.
- 2:51So, Annie, welcome, welcome, and thank so much for taking the time.
- 2:55I know you're a busy guy and you're, you know, on planes, trains, and automobiles.
- 2:58I know you're heading to Vegas tomorrow.
- 3:01So I, like I said, wanted to have millennials get a bad name, right, you know, when you kind
- 3:08of go out there in the world and everybody's trying talk about millennials and how do you
- 3:12manage them?
- 3:14And so I want you to kinda tell tell us a bit about you and your path and how you can be a
- 3:20voice for millennials that are are trying to, find the way in this world today.
- 3:26First and foremost, millennials get a bad name.
- 3:29It's true.
- 3:30I believe that that does happen, but I believe that it's the decision that the millennial
- 3:34takes.
- 3:35We all have decisions, whether you're an adult, you're you're eighteen years old, you're, you
- 3:39know, you're fifteen.
- 3:40We all have decisions to make.
- 3:42And whether you're a millennial or gen x or gen y, it doesn't matter.
- 3:45It's about the decisions.
- 3:47The knowledge is there.
- 3:48The opportunity is there.
- 3:49It is for you to take it.
- 3:50And I discovered at a young age that I have to take I have to take what's mine and what's
- 3:55literally available for me.
- 3:57See, my parents came from Haiti.
- 3:59They came were born in Haiti.
- 4:01And I realized that date, like, what's successful to them was being in the middle
- 4:08class of being here.
- 4:09And they made that.
- 4:10They made a reality.
- 4:12Right?
- 4:12I didn't grow up.
- 4:13I grew up in a impoverished area, but I didn't grow up in the gutter.
- 4:16I didn't grow up homeless.
- 4:17Thank god.
- 4:18And I felt like I had a a a an innate desire to level up for my family, to level up for my name
- 4:26so I can take care of my parents.
- 4:28And that's what I do now.
- 4:29You know, that's what I focus on now is to help other people And that's my business, helping
- 4:33other people so therefore I could help my own family.
- 4:36So tell me, when did that start to happen?
- 4:39You're 22.
- 4:40So When did you kind of start and say, there's something bigger in me here, and I had this
- 4:46burning desire to make a difference in the world.
- 4:49And make things different, not just for my, obviously, for myself, but what I hear is that
- 4:53your belief is that in making it better for the people around you.
- 4:57Yeah.
- 4:57I mean, I I wish I could tell you, like, it started yesterday, but, no, I started at a
- 5:02young age.
- 5:02I was ten years old, And I asked my dad for, Nike Air Forces.
- 5:08Nike Air Forces to me was, like, the coolest thing.
- 5:11So I asked my dad for Nike Air Forces.
- 5:13And he couldn't get it from me.
- 5:15He did and he didn't get it from you.
- 5:16And I realized that I had to go get it myself, but I was grateful because I had a home to live
- 5:22in.
- 5:23I had a shelter and so on and so forth.
- 5:25And so I set out to, you know, start my own business to be able to make that money.
- 5:29And when I was out there, I started realizing that I'm not doing the same thing that other
- 5:35people are doing.
- 5:37I'm eleven years old, and I'm pretty much, you know, I'm pretty much running my own
- 5:40landscaping business because I would go door to door door to door during these, the winter time
- 5:45I was so old there's snow at 11, twelve, thirteen years old.
- 5:50So that that idea just kinda came about or you thought Well, I wanna be able to make my own
- 5:56money.
- 5:56I want to be able to build something.
- 5:59Do do you remember how you were thinking back then?
- 6:01I mean, consider consider it, like, consider it like this.
- 6:03Right?
- 6:05A ten, eleven year old young boy goes to his parents and he says, can you get me this?
- 6:11My friends have this this Xbox.
- 6:13My friend has this program.
- 6:15These games, can you get it to me?
- 6:17All happy and excited.
- 6:18The parents say, Yes.
- 6:20And they never get it.
- 6:22Mhmm.
- 6:22But in worst case scenario, sometimes the parents say no, and they they don't get it for
- 6:26him.
- 6:26Then he comes back.
- 6:27Can you get me these clothes?
- 6:29I want these clothes and the parents say, no.
- 6:33Then he comes back.
- 6:34You know, he leaves sad, but he comes back another day.
- 6:36He says, can you give me a computer, dad?
- 6:38Please, my friend got a computer.
- 6:39I want a computer, and the parents say no.
- 6:41And then the kid realizes through conversations that the parents don't have the money.
- 6:46They they they're they're at a level where, you know, they're just getting by because the
- 6:50parents really don't have the money.
- 6:51So I knew that I had to go get the money myself.
- 6:54And who has my money?
- 6:56My neighbor has my money.
- 6:57I, you know, I gotta do something good for my neighbor for him to give me money.
- 7:01Right.
- 7:02So across the street, is the guy must have been, like, sixty, eighty years, seventy years
- 7:07old.
- 7:08And, to me, any anything above eighteen was
- 7:11old.
- 7:13Woah.
- 7:14Hey.
- 7:15Like, like, I remember seeing to to myself, oh, that guy, like, 20 years old.
- 7:21I will take that personally, Andy.
- 7:23I'm just listening.
- 7:23I'm 20 I'm 22.
- 7:25So, therefore, at myself, I was old.
- 7:28So, So then I I look across the street.
- 7:30I'm like, well, this guy is, you know, he's pretty old.
- 7:34If I show up with the snow and he doesn't have to, Maybe he'll give me a few bucks.
- 7:39I go across and I ask him.
- 7:40I say, hey, John, his name is John.
- 7:42I say, hey, John, can I, shovel your yard for you?
- 7:45And I'll charge you $10.
- 7:46He's like, no.
- 7:47Thank you.
- 7:48And I'm like, okay.
- 7:49Maybe he's just not my customer.
- 7:50So let me go to the next door.
- 7:52I go to the next door and they said, yes.
- 7:54And they pay me 10 bucks.
- 7:55And I'm like, woah.
- 7:57I I got I got the money in my hand.
- 7:58You know, I'm looking at the money.
- 7:59I'm like, I got the money in my hand.
- 8:01Okay.
- 8:02Okay.
- 8:03There must be more out there for me.
- 8:04The sneakers cost 200 bucks.
- 8:06There must be more out there for me.
- 8:08So I keep on going door to door, door to door, door to door, to get that money.
- 8:12And our and in the interim, I'm helping other people.
- 8:15I'm helping people who don't wanna be out in the snow, getting frostbite.
- 8:18And and, you know, I was out there late at night.
- 8:21I'm telling you, I was eleven years old, Roxanne, when I did that.
- 8:24Wow.
- 8:25Wow.
- 8:25So I realized at a young age that there was more for me.
- 8:28And was those type of situations that kind of propelled the mindset of there's more.
- 8:34There's more.
- 8:35There's more.
- 8:36There's more.
- 8:37So you started a cell phone business, when I read your bio, not to how old were you when you
- 8:43started the cell phone, business.
- 8:45And I I know at the prior to starting, speaking and, working a lot with a lot of, speakers that
- 8:56you had, quite a lot of staff working for for you.
- 8:59So tell tell us a bit about that.
- 9:01I I I I go in the story very deeply in my book no no more average where your audience can get
- 9:07the book at no more average book.com.
- 9:10I go very in the book.
- 9:12And I what happened really was because because of these experiences of giving a product or
- 9:19giving a service that actually helps someone else that people give me money for, I learned
- 9:25that I can actually become my own boss.
- 9:29So when I I entered the workforce at age sixteen, I started working at Wendy's.
- 9:33Right?
- 9:33And even while I was working at Wendy's, I still had the side hustle of making my own
- 9:38money based on, my own thoughts and my own ideas.
- 9:41So I was working at Wendy's getting paid $200 a week and I was selling cell phones on the site.
- 9:47So and I'll have a psychic at a time or whatever phone is Android.
- 9:52And I would use it, then I would sell it, get a new phone, and so on and so forth.
- 9:56And then I started selling sneakers.
- 9:59I got I realized there was a need a need or a want for sneakers in my school.
- 10:04This is around when I was in high school.
- 10:06And people were paying ridiculous amounts of money rocks in, ridiculous amounts of money.
- 10:11So what I tell you that a sneaker that costs a $160.
- 10:14Somebody would pay $300 for it.
- 10:16I said, wait.
- 10:18I might have myself a business here.
- 10:21And I use that money to propel my other business, my other businesses.
- 10:26So here's an example.
- 10:28I worked for 4 weeks at, Wendy's.
- 10:31I make $800.
- 10:32A sneaker is set to release in in in 4 weeks.
- 10:36So I use that $800 and I go out and I buy sneakers.
- 10:40$800 worth of sneakers.
- 10:42And then I flip each sneaker for an extra $100 in profit.
- 10:47That's how my business really started working.
- 10:50And but I I know that, you know, there's levels to business.
- 10:52You could be making a couple $100 and that's a business.
- 10:54You could be making a couple 1,000,000.
- 10:56That's a
- 10:56business.
- 10:56Right.
- 10:57So I wanted to expand.
- 10:59And I knew that if I go into commission sales, I might be able to make more money in a shorter
- 11:04amount of time.
- 11:05Right.
- 11:07So I go into commission sales working at MetroPCS.
- 11:10Got a job at MetroPCS.
- 11:11I work at MetroPCS.
- 11:13I get a mentor that his he owned a company.
- 11:17He owned 10 businesses of MetroPCS.
- 11:20And I was working in the front of the store that his office was behind me.
- 11:26And I would notice and pick up little things as to how he's operating his business.
- 11:30I would listen to him training employees.
- 11:32I would listen to him firing employees, and he would tell me, you know, this is he this is how
- 11:38you hire a person.
- 11:39This is are you, you know, fire person?
- 11:41And then I remember walking in the back, like, hey.
- 11:43What are you doing?
- 11:43Oh, I'm doing payroll.
- 11:45What is payroll?
- 11:46You know, what what is that?
- 11:47I'm a 8 head.
- 11:47This is me being eighteen.
- 11:49What is payroll?
- 11:50And he'll tell me payrolls when you do this, you do that, you do this, you do that.
- 11:53I was saying, okay.
- 11:54Awesome.
- 11:55So I started learning more about business.
- 11:57After a year of learning that information from my mentor, a coworker of mine who was a friend
- 12:04as well.
- 12:05He said I believe in you, Andy, I think you should open up your own self control.
- 12:08You just have so much knowledge.
- 12:11After overcoming some fear and battling that fear and winning over that fear, I opened up my
- 12:16first store at 19.
- 12:18That first store became, that first store generated about a $100,000 6 months.
- 12:24And I said, I got something in my hands right now.
- 12:27I grew the business to 4 businesses, to four locations with, 14 employees, in in 30 people
- 12:35at its peak.
- 12:36So fourteen people on on average.
- 12:38And I was twenty years old running that running that business.
- 12:41So, yes, that is my background in the cell phone business.
- 12:44You said something kind of important, and I think I'm curious.
- 12:47So I'm I'm gonna assume that the listeners are also curious.
- 12:50You said you felt the fear And what did you do with the fear?
- 12:54Because you know what?
- 12:56Whether you're 22 or 50 or 60, as an entrepreneur, There's always that kind of place
- 13:03in the back of your mind going, I don't know who, you know, who thinks they can do it.
- 13:08I'm not so sure.
- 13:09That fear crops up with all of us when we're gonna do something big.
- 13:13So how how'd you how'd you kinda get past that?
- 13:16Look, I realized this at a young at a young age, really, that we're all gonna die.
- 13:21You know, I realized, and that's how I'm a lot of fear is that we're we're gonna die.
- 13:25You know, I'm very fearful.
- 13:28I'm a very fearful human being as many other people are because it's navy how my body wants
- 13:34to survive.
- 13:35It says that you might go broke if you, you know, if you join this venture or, you know,
- 13:39you whatever whatever, you know, my brain thinks.
- 13:41But I realized that at one point, I was born, but I also at one point, I'm dying.
- 13:46And no one's gonna get out alive, so I'm gonna die.
- 13:49And when I get scared, I just think about that point that I'm gonna die regardless if I do it
- 13:55or not, I'm gonna die.
- 13:56And I just I just do it.
- 13:57Whether it be a large investment of myself.
- 13:59That's probably the most fearful things I've ever had where I had to invest into myself.
- 14:04So give us give us an example.
- 14:06Of something that you did and you thought, oh, wow.
- 14:09How I don't know how I'm gonna do this, but I'm gonna take this step and you did it anyway.
- 14:13Give give tell tell the viewer tell the listeners what you did.
- 14:16Like, like, an example of that.
- 14:17When I was when I was nineteen years old and I saved up $7000.
- 14:22Right?
- 14:22I saved it at $7 to move out of my parents' home.
- 14:27I wanted to leave.
- 14:28So I had the money.
- 14:30And then when my friend suggests that I opened up that business, Boom.
- 14:35It's like a rush of fear smacking in the face.
- 14:37Why would you do that?
- 14:38You know, you don't know.
- 14:39You're like, you you never ran a business before.
- 14:41You never got out there, why would you do that?
- 14:43And it starts rushing into my head, and I started thinking of reason why it won't work.
- 14:48Okay.
- 14:48Okay.
- 14:49Which I which I think is kinda normal, right, for most people when they're when they're
- 14:53stepping into something big, all of a sudden, the ego kinda step in and says, oh my god.
- 14:58You can't do this.
- 15:00And when you take that step into it, things shift.
- 15:05100100 percent 100%.
- 15:07But I'm happy I made that investment because I wouldn't be here because my mindset wouldn't
- 15:11have ex expanded to what I'm what I'm working on right now and what I believe that I can go
- 15:16towards.
- 15:16Cause if I didn't start there, I would still be trying to flip, you know, cell phones for a
- 15:20hundred bucks or I would still be working on some sneakers or things on the side.
- 15:24You know what I'm saying?
- 15:25Right.
- 15:25But you have to you started somewhere and you expanded your mindset to believe that the next
- 15:31step is bigger, and that's where I need to be.
- 15:33And even though I'm feeling the fears from what you're saying, however you motivate yourself,
- 15:37whether it's by I'm afraid, or, or I'm fearful of death, you did something that shifted that
- 15:44ability to go up the next step.
- 15:45And since then, you've obviously written the book.
- 15:47So tell us Tell us what kind of how did that idea come about?
- 15:51Like, did you come up with it on your own?
- 15:53Did you I know you hang out with some pretty heavy hitters, speakers and stuff like that.
- 16:00Tell me where the the birth of the idea for the book came from.
- 16:04Okay.
- 16:04So so but, you know, to finish up the conversation about fear, yes.
- 16:09I still feel the fear.
- 16:11I still feel it.
- 16:12And I still decide to go after what it is that I'm pursuing regardless of how I feel of that
- 16:18fear because I know that my dreams lie on the other side.
- 16:21So I go after my dreams, not not after the sickness mesa coming to the fear, the feeling
- 16:26of fear.
- 16:28Now, now, about about the book, about about the book no more accurate.
- 16:34I was smoking weed.
- 16:36I was actually smoking a smoking a blunt, and I'm around I'm around a few individuals, and
- 16:42they're passing the blunt.
- 16:44In in a in a circular in a circular pattern.
- 16:46That's how you take your hit.
- 16:47You pass it to the to the left.
- 16:49You take your hit.
- 16:49You pass it to you pass it with your left hand to the right.
- 16:52So I passed it, and I'm like, thinking to myself, I'm like, yo, this this people that I'm
- 16:57around, this is as I'm a business owner, I'm I'm a nineteen year old business owner.
- 17:03I have employees.
- 17:04I have payroll, and I'm saying to myself, I'm not supposed to be here.
- 17:09Like, I I'm looking at these individuals.
- 17:11I'm like, they're, you know, they they they may have some love for me that you care for me, but
- 17:15I'm not supposed to be here.
- 17:18I'm thinking to myself, look, I'm average.
- 17:21This I'm just like them.
- 17:23Yeah.
- 17:23I'm doing the same thing that they're doing.
- 17:25It's cool.
- 17:25I got my own business school.
- 17:27I got my own car that I'm paying people.
- 17:28I got my own money, but I'm average.
- 17:33And scenarios like that played throughout my life a lot.
- 17:36Where I realized that innately, I'm supposed to be living a different life, but outside
- 17:43externally, I'm doing what everyone else is doing, which is average.
- 17:46Average is defined as mimicking the efforts and ideas of other people.
- 17:52So the people that are around me had an an influence on me to do what they were doing,
- 17:57smoking weed, chilling and relaxing all day when I knew that I was supposed to be doing
- 18:02something greater with my wife.
- 18:04And that's what the book is really based on.
- 18:07Doing what you know that you wanna do, now what people have you doing around them.
- 18:11And it all starts with the different types of influences that you have.
- 18:15So I I'm assuming you you made that change, with the people that you hang around.
- 18:20I mean, we were just in New York, and I kind of saw the people that you hung with, and they're
- 18:26got they're people, not just men, but also women that are be doing big things in the
- 18:30world.
- 18:31Yeah.
- 18:3211100%.
- 18:34I don't hang around with the same type of individuals that I hang around, that I hang
- 18:37around with many years ago.
- 18:40I've expanded my network so much that I I really don't have the time to even fathom those
- 18:46thoughts to hang around with this type of individuals anymore.
- 18:49And my caliber of friends have changed as well.
- 18:52Absolutely.
- 18:53So tell us what tell us, you know, for the and I know I'm picking on millennials and it
- 18:58doesn't, but I think you really have a voice speak to young people because what we know is
- 19:02happening today, unfortunately, that a lot of younger people are having issues with anxiety,
- 19:09depression, They're they're they're concerned about their future.
- 19:12You know, they're thinking, how am I gonna make it in the world?
- 19:15You know, so many jobs are not, you know, getting lost Right?
- 19:18So you hear a lot of negativity and that they're entitled.
- 19:22Right?
- 19:22You hear that a lot.
- 19:23I they're entitled the world owes them a living.
- 19:26So if you were to be speaking to millennials directly right now, and you could give them a
- 19:30message, what would you tell them?
- 19:34Look.
- 19:37I don't have the answer for the fight on millennials.
- 19:40Alright?
- 19:40I don't have the the the the and I'll be, oh, this is the answer.
- 19:44Donald Trump, give me a call.
- 19:45I'll tell you.
- 19:45I don't have I don't have that that answer.
- 19:49But I do have opinions and As a millennial, I think we have a choice.
- 19:56And we we are knowledgeable.
- 19:58See, We are knowledgeable human beings that has a choice to make.
- 20:04You know exactly what it is that you want to do with your life.
- 20:07Now this is why I believe that millennials are so so much directionless.
- 20:13They they they think they don't have directionless because they're living in the
- 20:18average fear of being told what to do and going after that.
- 20:23Right?
- 20:24So here's an example of what millennials actually go through a real world example.
- 20:28You're eighteen years old.
- 20:29You just graduated, college.
- 20:32High school.
- 20:33You know in the back of your brain that you wanna go and you wanna do dance.
- 20:37You wanna be a dancer.
- 20:39This young girl wants to be a dancer.
- 20:40Her mom says, no.
- 20:41You're going to school to be a doctor.
- 20:44Doctors are where the people make money.
- 20:46Now this girl wants to make her mom happy.
- 20:50So she says, okay.
- 20:51I'll go to school.
- 20:51I'll be I'll go to school.
- 20:53I listen to what you say.
- 20:53You never stand me wrong.
- 20:55I'll go to school and do that.
- 20:57Now here's why they don't succeed in both.
- 20:59It's because they're half heartedly.
- 21:01They go to school to become the doctor but in the back of their brain, I should be doing
- 21:05this.
- 21:05I should be dancing.
- 21:06I don't know why I'm here.
- 21:08And then, therefore, they're not actually going after the doctor the way that they should be,
- 21:13and they're not going after the the dancing the way that should be.
- 21:16So now they became they become stuck.
- 21:18Right.
- 21:19And they live their life stuck for so long that now they're depending on other people's
- 21:23information.
- 21:25Ma'am, what do I do now?
- 21:26Like, you told me to be a doctor.
- 21:28There's no doctor jobs.
- 21:29Like, what do I do now, ma'am?
- 21:31You know, gotta give me something because you're telling me go get money.
- 21:33I can't get money because there's no there's no work for me, but I wanted to be a dancer and I
- 21:37would have been great at it, but I didn't do that because I listened to you.
- 21:40So, you give it to me.
- 21:41Do I do now?
- 21:43And it's given to them.
- 21:46These things are given to them.
- 21:48When you look at, you know, homeless personalities, even homeless people get help.
- 21:53So it's like everyone is entitled to something now.
- 21:55It's like this feeling of I'm entitled to something.
- 21:58When you're homeless and living on a skid row, people give you food.
- 22:01So it's like, I want the food that you're supposed to give me.
- 22:03You know, I want I want the food that you're supposed to give me.
- 22:06So what I was trying to say is that if you go after what it is that you truly want, you'll
- 22:12realize the hard work that it actually takes to get there.
- 22:15You'll realize that you're not entitled to anything.
- 22:17But if you are going with us, you are going to ride the other people tell you to go to.
- 22:21And when you start hitting those roadblocks, you look at other people to tell you what to do
- 22:26next or to just give it to you.
- 22:28Really?
- 22:28And what what you're you're talking about is really what this show is based on, which is to
- 22:32live authentically, right, which is to listen to what is deep down inside like the dancer,
- 22:38right, to to really live that value, because, you know, if we live outside of ourselves, and
- 22:46we hit those bumps.
- 22:47Guess what happens?
- 22:48We we fall down, we smack our face, and then we get up, and we think, my life sucks.
- 22:54But if we fall down when we've got a vision and we're listening to the fact that I want to you
- 23:00know, I want to play the piano, I want to be a lawyer, or I want to own my own business and
- 23:04you fall down, you still have that deep down inside desire.
- 23:09To make a difference with what you do.
- 23:11So you're talking about listening, and that listening becomes focus.
- 23:15Is that correct?
- 23:17Listening to yourself, sir.
- 23:18Yes.
- 23:19Absolutely.
- 23:19Absolutely.
- 23:20Listening a 100% to to yourself.
- 23:24So so tell us a little bit about you speaking because, I I had the privilege
- 23:29of, you know, coming out to see you in
- 23:29New York, with Les Brown and, Omar Perio, some really, you know, big guys, you know, and, what
- 23:40lovely people, by the way, and had an amazing experience.
- 23:43So tell tell you know, I kind of know the story, but I I'd like the the the listeners to
- 23:48to know kinda how you kind of here's this new circle, and you're you're the person connecting
- 23:54with me that gets me on stage with Les Brown you know, and I'm like, this guy's 22, and he's
- 24:00getting me on stage with Les Brown.
- 24:01Wow.
- 24:01I gotta I gotta get to know this young man.
- 24:03So tell.
- 24:04Tell them that there's a little bit about how you kind of got around, these individuals and
- 24:09some of the the circles that you're continuing to get, introduced to.
- 24:14A similar to similar to what's going on.
- 24:21I hear, like, a echo.
- 24:23Is that what you're saying?
- 24:24I don't know.
- 24:25I don't hear it on my end.
- 24:26I'm okay.
- 24:27Okay.
- 24:28Okay.
- 24:28I think I think we're good.
- 24:29I'm good.
- 24:30Okay.
- 24:30We're good.
- 24:31We're good.
- 24:32We're good.
- 24:32So, like, similar to when I was scared to make that investment, of that $7000 in the in my
- 24:37business when I first started, right, in the cell phone business.
- 24:41And I had that fear.
- 24:42I had to make an investment in myself to to kind of like join the the Les Brown Institute
- 24:48and join the inner circle of of Les Brown.
- 24:52And I because I I noticed that there's a lot of people that talk, but there's not a lot of
- 24:57people that show up.
- 24:58And as as I get more and more into this business, like, you're someone who you showed
- 25:02up, you invested into yourself to to to start speaking and start developing your brand as
- 25:07well as I did with myself.
- 25:09And there were perks that you got for, for doing that, and as well as myself.
- 25:12So when I invested into myself, earlier, the earlier last year, to start working with Les
- 25:19Brown, I I had to overcome a lot of fear and a lot of doubt.
- 25:23I think what blocks me is, or blocked my progress was my doubt and and and my abilities.
- 25:30Being 21, being black, And and the and all these things that I, like, that came to my
- 25:36mind, like, all these reasons that came to my mind.
- 25:37So I had to overcome the fear and overcome the doubt and actually invest myself on a continual
- 25:43basis in order to grow my to grow my business.
- 25:46So when I grew, when I invested myself, it didn't stop there.
- 25:51I started work.
- 25:52I started getting in the in a circle, not necessarily.
- 25:56I started getting, like, around the type of people who were, you know, less Brown and less
- 26:02Brown's children and and, the the exec using his company.
- 26:06I started getting around them That wasn't part of it.
- 26:09Just yeah.
- 26:09It took a lot of time, and it took a lot of work, and it took a lot more investment.
- 26:13But eventually, when I kept on working my way in, I was around so much that I became part of
- 26:20the circle.
- 26:21Right?
- 26:21I kept on continually investing to the point that I I became part of the circle.
- 26:26And it came to a point where it's, like, without Andy, something's missing, you know,
- 26:31like, like, some something's missing.
- 26:33So so, therefore, I can't I became part of the team that way.
- 26:37I had just continued to show up.
- 26:38You know, nothing's gonna happen to like, I think about it that I thought about it the
- 26:43other day.
- 26:44I live in Los Angeles, the office, the Les Brown office, when, they were there most of the
- 26:50time, was in Miami.
- 26:52And I remember sitting in the office one day, and someone says, hey.
- 26:56Where do you live?
- 26:57I said Los Angeles.
- 26:59And they said, how do you live in LA?
- 27:01You're always here.
- 27:02You must live, like, down the street or something.
- 27:04I was like, no.
- 27:06I live in LA.
- 27:07I live in on the other side of the country.
- 27:09And I was I was showing up as much as someone who lived in Florida was.
- 27:13I just kept on showing up.
- 27:14And I focused on I focused on, like, one core group to to be with.
- 27:21Because I realized, like, if I want, if, like, less, Tony Robbins has programs and, Grande
- 27:28Cardon has programs and, who else?
- 27:30Who else is it?
- 27:32That there's there's another guy.
- 27:33That'd be all.
- 27:34Canfield, maybe?
- 27:36Jan.
- 27:36Canfield.
- 27:36Yeah.
- 27:37Jack had he has programs.
- 27:38So, Chris, Greg Reed, Greg Reid, who he has programs as well.
- 27:43So it's like, If I if I was hopping around, I would have gotten the the best exposure because
- 27:49it would have been like, oh, I came once and like, who was that person?
- 27:52Who was that black guy?
- 27:53So I didn't want that.
- 27:54I knew that to commit.
- 27:56I remember saying to myself, I'm committing to do whatever it takes.
- 28:00I said to myself, bandwidth, by any means, whatever it takes, by doing any means necessary
- 28:05by and doing whatever it takes.
- 28:07So I kept on showing up, kept on showing up, kept on showing up to the point where they were
- 28:10like, Yeah.
- 28:11Without ending, this is kinda weird.
- 28:12Like, why is it ending here?
- 28:13Now I became part of part of the team because I kept on so I kept on being there.
- 28:18And then eventually, that's really how it it all started for me.
- 28:21She kept on showing up, continually investing myself, being there so much that Where's Andy?
- 28:27You know, Connor?
- 28:28That's why that's the kind of what I wanted to happen.
- 28:30Where's Andy at?
- 28:33Like, where's Waldo?
- 28:34Where's Andy?
- 28:35Yeah.
- 28:35Yeah.
- 28:35Yeah.
- 28:35If I'm not there, it's like, it's like, where's Andy?
- 28:38And people thought I lived in Miami, what I actually lived in, I lived in LA.
- 28:43I just was always there.
- 28:44So you just hopped on a plane as much as possible and you were available and learning
- 28:48and and just kind of downloading all the information that you needed to kind of get
- 28:52where you are today?
- 28:54Yeah.
- 28:54I hopped on a plane.
- 28:55Like, if I if I can tell you how many times I've been on a plane, from LA to Miami early,
- 29:00earlier this year, it's I couldn't count my fingers.
- 29:02I can tell you that one.
- 29:03I can't count my fingers.
- 29:05We're we're only talking about a few months.
- 29:08We're only talking like, like, I was on the phone.
- 29:10I'm I'm betting speakers right now, working with different speakers who wants to get off
- 29:13stage.
- 29:14And I was on the phone with someone, and I was telling them about how many times that I'll
- 29:19travel to go after, you know, what it is that I want.
- 29:23How many times do I get on a plane to go, you know, get what I want?
- 29:26So, yeah, hop on the plan as much as you can.
- 29:29If it if the people that are listening, hop on the plan as much as you can and get around the
- 29:32right people and watch your business propel.
- 29:35I've only been doing this for, since February.
- 29:40It's not it hasn't been here yet.
- 29:42February.
- 29:42Wow.
- 29:43I I wouldn't have known that.
- 29:44I thought it was longer than that.
- 29:46So you've done massive things in in less than a year.
- 29:51Yeah.
- 29:52Yeah.
- 29:52100%.
- 29:53First and foremost, I gotta give it to god because you know, I believe that this vision
- 29:57was given to me.
- 29:59I remember when I was last year, when I was running on Figueroa Street, and I saw myself on
- 30:04stage with Les Brown, I believe that vision was given to me.
- 30:07Right?
- 30:08And it was, like, my job to actually fulfill that.
- 30:10I don't know.
- 30:10You've been
- 30:11writing and you saw an image of being on on stage with Les Brown.
- 30:15It just came in your mind.
- 30:16Well, actually, actually, this is what happened.
- 30:19I was running on Figuero.
- 30:20I was, you know, trying to lose weight I was listening to a lot of rap music in my ear.
- 30:24And I remember listening to, Ace Hood, and he was talking about motivation going out and get
- 30:29hungry.
- 30:29And I was running about 22 to 24 minutes per mile.
- 30:33Every mile was 20, you know, 24 minutes long.
- 30:36I changed the stuff that I was listening to, and I started listening to Les Brown,
- 30:41motivational stuff, Eric Thomas, motivational things on on YouTube.
- 30:46That time of 22 minutes decreased after, you know, doing a few weeks of training, that time
- 30:51decreased all the way to 8 minutes.
- 30:53And minutes per mile now.
- 30:55I'm I I remember I was running.
- 30:58I was like I was like, am I really You know, I'm really doing this.
- 31:02I remember that, like, today.
- 31:04I was working with You
- 31:05diced it in a third.
- 31:07What's that?
- 31:08You diced your time in the third.
- 31:10I was I was so shocked as to what my body was able to do.
- 31:15I went home and I said, look.
- 31:17Look, this is crazy, dude.
- 31:18I've never ever ran under 10 minutes in my life.
- 31:22And that's a power of visualization.
- 31:24And and I I'm gonna tell the story of how I met you.
- 31:27And, I I'm trying to remember, initially, if I reached out to you or you had reached out to
- 31:32me, And you had offered me the opportunity to get on stage, with less, and I didn't realize
- 31:39it.
- 31:39You just reached out.
- 31:40I don't know if you explicitly said it.
- 31:43At at which one?
- 31:44Say say that one more time?
- 31:45The first the first event that you had in California.
- 31:48Yeah.
- 31:49You had reached out, and we I when I look back, there was a dialogue between me and you.
- 31:55And I didn't realize at that point, you know, the extent of what you were doing.
- 31:59And I didn't realize that Les Brown was one of the speakers at that time.
- 32:03I went back after accepting the opportunity in December and looked back at my old email, my
- 32:10the old's messengers, and it said, you and I could it said the opportunity to speak with
- 32:15speak with let my mindset, obviously, I must have missed it.
- 32:20Something happened.
- 32:21And what happened to me was talking about visualization and the power of mindset was
- 32:27probably about, well, I was in we were on stage in December on 6th.
- 32:33And about 6 weeks before that, I had done a vision board.
- 32:37And I'm the vision board.
- 32:39I had written who I wanted to be on on stage with.
- 32:42And in the middle, of a couple of names was Les Brown.
- 32:46And I completely I would look at the vision board, but not every day.
- 32:49And not until you and I talked again, and I was actually making the the the, arrangement to go
- 32:57I look back at my vision board, and I'm like, oh my goodness.
- 33:02Here's Mister Les Brown right on my vision board, and I hadn't stopped to realize it.
- 33:09Right?
- 33:10So that was 7 weeks prior to me being in New York City.
- 33:14So so what I remember is that you contacted me, You contacted me earlier in the year for my
- 33:20first event.
- 33:21Right.
- 33:22And we talked about you investing to speak at my first event.
- 33:25Right.
- 33:26And you declined and you, for some reason, you declined.
- 33:29But then you after that event you put on your vision board that you wanted to speak on a same
- 33:33stage of Les Brown.
- 33:34Right.
- 33:35And then at after my event, you reached out to me again.
- 33:39You we were talking about you speaking on one of my stages and you said And then and then
- 33:45what and then what happened?
- 33:46Realize the first stage was was with Les Brown.
- 33:49Gotcha.
- 33:50Gotcha.
- 33:50I didn't even realize that.
- 33:52Nor did I realize that I really wanted to speak with Les Brown until I looked back at my vision
- 33:56board and I went, I'd put, you know, a couple of names on there, like, Mary Folio and, you
- 34:03know, different people, and then I put Les Brown.
- 34:05So it's a power of that visualization, even though you're maybe not doing it every single
- 34:10day.
- 34:11And, you know, when I came back, after speaking, I pulled it out again, and it's a
- 34:15little bit rubbed off, but it's right there.
- 34:18You did reach out to me, and and we did.
- 34:21I did get you on stage and you did speak, on stage with less ground.
- 34:24Like, how was your experience with
- 34:25this?
- 34:26It was it was, you know, all I can say is what amazing one, that that was an amazing
- 34:32experience for me.
- 34:33And what made my day even further was when, I was telling less about my son who is just he
- 34:41listens to motivational tapes.
- 34:42I told him I was going to New York, and he says, mom, of course, I know Les Brown.
- 34:46I've been living listening to him forever.
- 34:48So I'm telling less historic, because I'm, you know, I know I figure this man's gonna be busy.
- 34:52He's not gonna be able to have time.
- 34:54And then what does he do?
- 34:57He calls RJ.
- 34:59Did you call yes.
- 35:01He
- 35:01called he called your son.
- 35:02Okay.
- 35:03Yeah.
- 35:03I don't know if you knew that.
- 35:05No.
- 35:05I He
- 35:06spoke to him, and he said so he said, I heard your mom says you're doing amazing things.
- 35:10You listen to motivational tapes all the time.
- 35:13They had a conversation and then less said to him, look, you're a driven young man.
- 35:18If at 16, you've been doing this.
- 35:20He says, if you want me to mentor you I will mentor you because you sound like the kind of
- 35:24kid that's gonna do big things in the world.
- 35:26And I was I I was speechless.
- 35:29Because I, you know, I did not ex here I am.
- 35:32Obviously, I'm going there, you know, to, you know, build my brand, to be around, you know,
- 35:37these individuals, especially less.
- 35:38And then he does this, and I'm, I'm low.
- 35:41I am, like, speechless.
- 35:42And all I get from my son after is, mom, You're the bomb.
- 35:47That's all I got.
- 35:48I went I went alright.
- 35:50If I
- 35:50got to a sixteen year old, I think I've I've been I've been doing pretty good.
- 35:54So it's just amazing.
- 35:56That experience blew my mind.
- 35:59Being on stage was fantastic.
- 36:02I was completely in the moment.
- 36:04You know, the business that I've gotten from there has been outstanding.
- 36:08And I'm I'm I've I've created a lot of contacts since being in New York.
- 36:14So without a doubt, like you're right, it's it's about mindset, expanding what you what you
- 36:20think is possible, feeling the fear because we all like to stay in that comfort zone.
- 36:24Right?
- 36:24Cause that's the that's the that's the brain trying to protect us.
- 36:28And as soon as we get out of that comfort zone, what happens It says step back.
- 36:32Don't get off the sidewalk.
- 36:33You're gonna get smart.
- 36:34Right?
- 36:35And then we feel like that, and then we wanna kinda run away.
- 36:38And you're so right when you say stepping into it means feeling the fear and just going with
- 36:43it because, that's where, real things happen is on the other side.
- 36:48100%.
- 36:49Man, I'm happy to, you know, get you experienced that.
- 36:51And that's the thing.
- 36:52I can't, you know, I wish I could have told you that, you know, ahead of time that, hey, this
- 36:56is what's gonna happen, and I can't All I know is this one thing, and I know this one thing I
- 37:01believe in this.
- 37:01There is opportunity in the show up.
- 37:04Mhmm.
- 37:05That investment actually made in in my opinion was was nominal compared to what you received
- 37:10with less getting starting a relationship with your son and and, you know, the the
- 37:14relationship that you're starting with less there's opportunity in the show.
- 37:18And when this op when they really show up, you receive opportunities.
- 37:21And I the thing is I can't tell someone, like, I'm I just got off the phone, a few minutes ago
- 37:26with a potential speaker, and I can't tell someone, hey.
- 37:29You're gonna receive this opportunity.
- 37:30That's why it doesn't work that way.
- 37:33Just show up.
- 37:34Well, I mean, and and when he did that, I thought he was kidding.
- 37:37Right?
- 37:38I thought, minimally, I'll get a picture.
- 37:39Maybe I'll take a little video.
- 37:41And then when he took the time, that showed me the depth of the people that you were really
- 37:46surrounded with.
- 37:47When I saw what he was like, he was so gracious and kind And, you know, for me, that just made
- 37:53my experience just one of those, pinnacles of, things that I can I will remember in in in my
- 37:59kind of, my foray into, you know, speaking full time?
- 38:03So so tell me tell me, what What, do you wanna leave with the viewers?
- 38:10Is there anything I keep saying viewers, listeners, and, obviously, the viewers, when
- 38:15this goes on YouTube, What would you like people to, walk away knowing about you?
- 38:21I also want you to tell them where they can buy your book, where they can get ahold of you,
- 38:26those types of things.
- 38:28Well, 1st of foremost, look, I'm about to write a bill that's called that.
- 38:31Like, there's opportunity in a short Right?
- 38:35I've I found my business repelling very at a rapid pace because I continue to show up.
- 38:41To the point where people are gonna be like, wait.
- 38:43I don't want to be the person that people are like, what happened to that one person?
- 38:48You know, I wanna be the person that they know my name and they know my story, they don't, and
- 38:52so on and so forth.
- 38:52So you gotta continue showing up.
- 38:54And I believe there was opportunity when you show up.
- 38:57You just gotta do that.
- 38:58So that's the that's my that's my biggest take this.
- 39:01If you if you get anything from me, if your viewers get anything from me, it's you gotta
- 39:05show up.
- 39:07When I touched that stage, for example, on December 6th, And all the stages that I've been
- 39:10on this year is I realized that I'm the youngest person to touch those stages.
- 39:16And I and I I always think about, you know, why?
- 39:20Why?
- 39:20How am I am I doing this?
- 39:22It's because I continue to show up in comparison to when others don't.
- 39:27Right?
- 39:27I continue to show up.
- 39:29So when you show up, there's gonna be an opportunity for you.
- 39:32Just waiting for you.
- 39:33Absolutely.
- 39:34And and where people can buy my book, no more average.
- 39:38It's at no more average book.com.
- 39:40That is no more average book.com.
- 39:43And you could've, you know, get in contact with me at NDR date, a n d y a u d a t e n d r date

- 40:19I was on the phone with both of them, but I I introduced them together.
- 40:22And they were, you know, having a little talk with each other back and forth, and it was
- 40:27about to be, Eric's birthday.
- 40:30The day we had an event in New York.
- 40:32We had a we had a bigger event in New York.
- 40:34It was Eric's birthday at that time.
