- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here it is Friday it's the 8th of August
- 0:17and so good to have your company and I hope your week has been a
- 0:20good one as here we are on the last day ready to read some
- 0:25proverbs together. That's right cracking open some
- 0:28ancient wisdom literature that is very counter cultural of you
- 0:31friends. But good on you for being here
- 0:33and doing it with me. Anyway to come and hear not what
- 0:37is most recent and cutting edge but what is ancient and true.
- 0:41Ah yes, these observations made by this wise king for you and I
- 0:46today. Let us read together Proverbs
- 0:4915-8 to 14. The Lord detests the sacrifice
- 1:04of the wicked, but he delights in the prayers of the upright.
- 1:09The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who
- 1:13pursue. Godliness, however abandons the
- 1:17right path will be severely disciplined.
- 1:20Whoever hates correction will die.
- 1:25Even death and destruction hold no secrets from the Lord.
- 1:29How much more does he know? The human heart?
- 1:32Mockers hate to be corrected, so they stay away from the wise.
- 1:38A glad heart makes a happy face. A broken heart crushes the
- 1:43spirit. A wise person is hungry for
- 1:47knowledge while the fool feeds on trash.
- 1:54And again, the Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but he
- 1:59delights in the prayers of the upright.
- 2:03The Lord detests the ways of the wicked, but he loves those who
- 2:08pursue godliness. Whoever abandons the right path
- 2:12will be severely disciplined. Whoever hates correction will
- 2:16die. Even death and destruction hold
- 2:21no secrets from the Lord. How much more does he know the
- 2:25human heart? Mockers hate to be corrected, so
- 2:30they stay away from the wise. A glad heart makes a happy face.
- 2:37A broken heart crushes the spirit.
- 2:42A wise person is hungry for knowledge while the fool feeds
- 2:46on trash. Oh Jesus, you know that in our
- 2:59lives we have things on the horizon that seem like they are
- 3:03going to bring our destruction, things that we fear.
- 3:06But here, this proverb tells us that even death and destruction
- 3:10hold no secrets for you, that you are already on the other
- 3:15side of those. And you know what is there.
- 3:18And you hold us in the palm of your hand, and You carry us
- 3:22through whatever our lives will bring.
- 3:26So Lord, when we are fearing, when we are daunted, when we
- 3:31don't really feel like we have what we need to keep going
- 3:34forward, Lord, we know that even if the worst things come to
- 3:39pass, You know all about that. And you are on the other side of
- 3:43that. And there are no secrets from
- 3:46You. And there is no part of anything
- 3:49that could happen in our life where You are not already there.
- 3:54And as much as you know about every potential corner that we
- 3:58could turn, Proverbs says, how much more do you even know the
- 4:02human heart? You know us all the way to our
- 4:05core, through the good times and the bad, and you love us.
- 4:12And even when you see into our hearts all of our faults and
- 4:15foibles and broken bits and things that we're too ashamed to
- 4:19share with others, you know about them.
- 4:23And still you love us, and you want us to be right there with
- 4:28you. Ah, so we thank you, our kind
- 4:31and loving God who knows everything, even everything
- 4:35beyond death and destruction, beyond the corners and secrets
- 4:40of our own hearts. There you are, arms wide open,
- 4:44filled with love, acceptance, and compassion.
- 4:48And so we step into your embrace.
- 4:51See in and known and loved. And so we love you, and we
- 4:58praise you, and we pray all of this in your name, Jesus, Amen.
