- 0:00Speaker 1: For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show Podcast,
- 0:05Speaker 1: get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, or
- 0:10Speaker 1: Raw Dog It, four to seven every weekday on Radio Hauraki.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Oh, g'day, fellas. Hello. Yeah, man.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Good stuff. Good weekend, Horty J.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Yeah, not bad, thanks.
- 0:22Speaker 4: You're good, Horty J. You seem like you're a bit
- 0:24Speaker 4: down in the dumps, man.
- 0:25Speaker 2: No, no, I'm tickety-boo.
- 0:27Speaker 5: The last 20 minutes just exhausted me.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Is that a new jersey, mate?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. Thanks for noticing.
- 0:34Speaker 4: What was exhausting?
- 0:34Speaker 3: Was it the brainstorm or the show meeting?
- 0:36Speaker 4: That wasn't a brainstorm.
- 0:38Speaker 2: It wasn't a brainstorm, Keezy.
- 0:40Speaker 6: Well, it kind of was for the video idea we
- 0:41Speaker 6: were shooting on Wednesday, and every idea involved Jace looking silly.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean, that's par for the course.
- 0:47Speaker 4: But I'm happy to look silly alongside him.
- 0:48Speaker 2: That's par for the course.
- 0:50Speaker 3: He just does it so well.
- 0:51Speaker 2: It's just, you know, those types of condos.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Absolutely critical to the success of this radio show, Jase. Yeah, totally, man.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I tend to go into a deep thug.
- 1:06Speaker 3: You went into a thug?
- 1:08Speaker 2: No, a thug.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Oh, I was going to say.
- 1:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:11Speaker 2: So, you know, I was feeling good up until that point.
- 1:14Speaker 4: You were, weren't you?
- 1:15Speaker 5: Yeah, and then it just went up.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Yesterday.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Monday.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yesterday.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Yesterday. Yesterday.
- 1:24Speaker 3: So I went to bed at five.
- 1:26Speaker 4: In the morning? Sunday morning.
- 1:27Speaker 6: So the All Blacks was on and I was like,
- 1:29Speaker 6: none of it was going into my brain. And I
- 1:30Speaker 6: was just like, why the fuck am I still up?
- 1:32Speaker 6: And so I went to bed, took ages to go
- 1:33Speaker 6: to sleep, then woke up at like seven. And then
- 1:35Speaker 6: at lunchtime I was home. and I'd had a shower,
- 1:39Speaker 6: and Lucy, my wife, had made me lunch, and I
- 1:41Speaker 6: was just sitting on the couch, and I'd made a
- 1:42Speaker 6: big coffee, and I said to her, I'm going to
- 1:44Speaker 6: stay up and just go to bed early. I had
- 1:46Speaker 6: one mouthful of coffee and was like, I can't do it.
- 1:48Speaker 6: I tipped the coffee out, went to bed for five hours.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 3: It was fucked. I've never napped for that long. It
- 1:54Speaker 3: was fucked up.
- 1:55Speaker 4: That's not a nap. That's a sleep case.
- 1:56Speaker 3: That's a full-blown sleep.
- 1:57Speaker 4: You had an hour's sleep the night before, so you
- 1:58Speaker 4: didn't have the sleep.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 3: So that's like, yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Because what time did you start drinking the day before?
- 2:04Speaker 6: I was drinking a zero-alcohol... beer while driving out to
- 2:09Speaker 6: my mate's house out south at 11.30 a.m.
- 2:11Speaker 4: There you go.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 4: There you go. Jeez, that's a long time to be drinking, eh?
- 2:16Speaker 2: That is it.
- 2:17Speaker 4: That's a long night. That is a big shift. Jeez,
- 2:19Speaker 4: you must have had a few coffees in there as well.
- 2:20Speaker 2: That's a big shift.
- 2:22Speaker 3: A lot of coffees, Mogi?
- 2:23Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That'll do it.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Boy, oh boy, oh boy. What the hell are
- 2:27Speaker 2: you doing?
- 2:28Speaker 3: I don't know what you're insinuating, but I take umbrage.
- 2:33Speaker 2: You're going to hit the fan tomorrow.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Do you reckon?
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah, tomorrow on Wednesday.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Is this me not hitting the fan?
- 2:39Speaker 7: No.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Because it feels like it is.
- 2:40Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 2:42Speaker 3: I just... The next.
- 2:43Speaker 5: It's usually two days after.
- 2:45Speaker 3: How far away is Hot Pot from here? How far, like, physically?
- 2:50Speaker 4: To walk it?
- 2:51Speaker 3: 500 metres?
- 2:52Speaker 2: Oh, 10-minute walk?
- 2:53Speaker 3: 10-minute walk.
- 2:54Speaker 4: 10-minute walk?
- 2:55Speaker 5: Yeah, man.
- 2:56Speaker 3: I just did that walk.
- 2:57Speaker 7: Yes.
- 2:57Speaker 4: From Hot Pot to here. Oh, yes.
- 2:59Speaker 6: And it felt like I was climbing fucking Everest. Like,
- 3:01Speaker 6: I am so full of Hot Pot right now in
- 3:03Speaker 6: regret that I'm just like.
- 3:07Speaker 3: The walk felt like it was taking forever.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:10Speaker 4: You should have got on a scooter, man.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Thought about it.
- 3:13Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Then I was like, I don't want to look like
- 3:15Speaker 3: Mogi when he's hungover. Oh, it was you when you
- 3:18Speaker 3: were drunk, wasn't it?
- 3:19Speaker 4: Oh, drunk, yeah. That's what I look cool. Run along.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Crash it, drop all your shit everywhere.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Good times.
- 3:27Speaker 4: How was your father's day, Jizz?
- 3:28Speaker 2: It was good, thanks.
- 3:30Speaker 5: I had to wait for my daughter to get up.
- 3:34Speaker 3: What time did she get up?
- 3:35Speaker 4: 11.
- 3:35Speaker 5: Well, that was fine because my wife and I went
- 3:37Speaker 5: out and had breakfast, as we do on a Sunday.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Were there birds in the cafe?
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yes, there were. Fuck. A couple of pigeons. I had
- 3:45Speaker 2: a very nice ham and cheese croissant.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Coffee and we get one of their juices there, which
- 3:51Speaker 5: is great.
- 3:53Speaker 2: And then got home and there were prezzies on the
- 3:54Speaker 2: table for me. Oh, really? Yeah. What did you get?
- 3:58Speaker 4: Do you like getting a present, do you?
- 4:00Speaker 2: I don't normally expect a present on Father's Day. Not
- 4:02Speaker 2: these days, maybe.
- 4:03Speaker 4: No, no.
- 4:04Speaker 2: But I think all my daughters contributed.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Yes. Can you tell us?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 5: I was going to do it on the show when
- 4:10Speaker 5: we chatted.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Fair enough.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:13Speaker 4: You're not going to. Okay. I can do it now.
- 4:15Speaker 4: You're reserved to tell the truth here and lies on
- 4:17Speaker 4: the show. So if it's going to be the truth
- 4:19Speaker 4: on the show, I'm happy with that. That is a
- 4:21Speaker 4: complete change to the structure of what we do here.
- 4:23Speaker 3: If he comes on the show and says, oh, a
- 4:25Speaker 3: dilly or something, then it's like, what?
- 4:26Speaker 4: Yeah, my daughter's bought me a dilly.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Come on, man. Come on. But yeah, good weekend.
- 4:34Speaker 4: How was the card? That was not.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It is very funny, the card.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Is it?
- 4:42Speaker 3: The Father's Day card.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Because it was written by my youngest daughter, and she said...
- 4:49Speaker 5: We love you so much. We lucked out getting you
- 4:53Speaker 5: as a dad.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Yes.
- 4:55Speaker 2: And I went, isn't lucked out bad luck?
- 4:59Speaker 4: No, no.
- 5:00Speaker 5: But it's actually different in different cultures. In America, lucked
- 5:04Speaker 5: out means really good luck. And in European, it's you've
- 5:10Speaker 5: run out of luck.
- 5:11Speaker 4: I had that. I used to wonder about that. But
- 5:13Speaker 4: I've come to understand it to be it's good luck.
- 5:15Speaker 7: Yes.
- 5:16Speaker 4: And you would hope. You would hope so. In this instance,
- 5:19Speaker 4: it was, yeah.
- 5:20Speaker 2: It just made me laugh, that's all.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I mean, it feels weird that they could have said, like,
- 5:23Speaker 3: we hit the jackpot.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 5:24Speaker 3: But they chose that sort of ambiguous.
- 5:25Speaker 4: That's right, we've got a gambling addiction.
- 5:35Speaker 2: And it's live.
- 5:37Speaker 4: What are you listening to there?
- 5:39Speaker 1: Oh, me?
- 5:40Speaker 2: Oh, sorry.
- 5:41Speaker 5: I was listening to the Radio Hauraki Big Show.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Right.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Four to seven weekdays.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Yeah, that's quite specific. And iHeartRadio.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Righto. Cheers.
- 5:55Speaker 6: The Hauraki Big Show podcast.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Just on the jackpot, I didn't win Lotto.
- 5:59Speaker 4: No.
- 6:01Speaker 2: But I did get four free lines again.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Oh. You had the jackpot as well, didn't you, Keezy,
- 6:07Speaker 4: on Saturday night?
- 6:09Speaker 3: I don't get it.
- 6:09Speaker 4: What? Because it was 28 mil, man. 28.5. It's all gone.
- 6:13Speaker 4: The guy's claimed it.
- 6:14Speaker 2: In Gisborne. He lives in Gisborne. Imagine living in Gisborne, right?
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 5: And you fucking win $ 28.
- 6:21Speaker 2: 5 million.
- 6:23Speaker 4: That place is beautiful.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Like my mother-in-law at the moment. I'd be out of
- 6:27Speaker 4: there like fucking.
- 6:28Speaker 5: Well, my mother-in-law at the moment is house-sitting down there,
- 6:31Speaker 5: and she's in this amazing place, and the beach is
- 6:34Speaker 5: just phenomenal. And she's about 100 metres from the beach.
- 6:38Speaker 4: That's mild.
- 6:39Speaker 5: You go in Gisborne, you could buy the most extraordinary property.
- 6:44Speaker 4: But then you live in Gisborne.
- 6:46Speaker 5: And then, you know, just get high the entire time responsibly.
- 6:50Speaker 1: No.
- 6:51Speaker 7: No.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Gisborne? That's what they're going to call it when you
- 6:54Speaker 4: move there, man. Yeah, the jizz bin.
- 6:58Speaker 2: But, yeah, no, it was a nice far. And I
- 6:59Speaker 2: got a few messages late in the day.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Oh, did you? From your daughters, I hope.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Yeah, good shit.
- 7:05Speaker 6: How early are you supposed to contact your father on
- 7:07Speaker 6: Father's Day?
- 7:08Speaker 4: There should be messages waiting there.
- 7:10Speaker 2: In the morning?
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Because I called him at 6 p.m.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that shit.
- 7:14Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Why, you were a piece of shit.
- 7:18Speaker 3: But he'd already had his gift from me.
- 7:19Speaker 5: You were already sweating in your fart box.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Yeah, true, actually.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Sweating in the old fart box, I call it.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Oh, I've just seen old Keezy there. Yeah, 6 p.m.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Is too late, isn't it?
- 7:29Speaker 4: It's quite late.
- 7:31Speaker 3: But I explained it to him.
- 7:32Speaker 6: And I already had a chat with him on the
- 7:33Speaker 6: Saturday when I gave him his gift for the Saturday.
- 7:36Speaker 5: All my girls, of course, are in Australia, so they're
- 7:38Speaker 5: two hours behind. So I've got to give them a
- 7:40Speaker 5: bit of grace.
- 7:42Speaker 4: What about the ones in New Zealand that got up
- 7:44Speaker 4: at 11? 12, I think.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I used to be like that, eh?
- 7:49Speaker 4: Oh, shit, you love it.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Midday, man.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Start real late.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Morning, father. It's not morning.
- 7:54Speaker 4: It's after midday.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:58Speaker 4: The missus and my daughter got me a– they do
- 8:01Speaker 4: really well. It's actually fast turned into my favorite holiday. Yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Because I don't have to do anything, and I refuse
- 8:07Speaker 4: to do anything. Yes. Not entirely.
- 8:09Speaker 3: I love that. I don't have to do anything, but
- 8:10Speaker 3: I refuse to do anything.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Well, you do– well– For example, just things like spending
- 8:17Speaker 4: hours cleaning the kitchen and shit. I'm not doing it,
- 8:21Speaker 4: and I don't feel guilty about not doing it.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:23Speaker 4: I'm not doing it. Yeah. But got a nice card,
- 8:28Speaker 4: nice card that the daughter makes. Yes, always. I've decided
- 8:31Speaker 4: I've got to keep those. I should be keeping those
- 8:34Speaker 4: because I'm only going to get about 25 of them,
- 8:37Speaker 4: 30 if I'm lucky, and then I'll be dead. It'll
- 8:41Speaker 4: be quite nice to see those, have those over the years.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Nah, just biff it, man.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Okay. And then the missus got me, they have this
- 8:49Speaker 4: mobile sauna. Mobile sauna on a beach.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:54Speaker 4: So I went over to that and then you do
- 8:56Speaker 4: a cold plunge in the ocean. So we all went over, missus,
- 8:59Speaker 4: mum and sister are staying as well as the brother.
- 9:01Speaker 4: So we all went over there and went into the
- 9:03Speaker 4: sauna there. Bunch of young folks there jabbering away like
- 9:08Speaker 4: it was a fucking cafe. Okay.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Do you know what I mean? Yeah, it's not on, man. Blah, blah, blah,
- 9:13Speaker 4: top of the lungs, yada, yada, yada. There was a
- 9:16Speaker 4: couple next to me talking about they're going to go skiing.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Might go skiing, this, that, and the other. A couple
- 9:22Speaker 4: of young women there, or woman, I thought. And then
- 9:27Speaker 4: one of them starts saying, oh, it's my mum's 50th
- 9:32Speaker 4: next month. I was like, fucking what? How is that possible?
- 9:36Speaker 4: I'm about three years older than you. How can it
- 9:39Speaker 4: be possible that your mum has... Yeah, yeah.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Well, maybe it's a Hoiti J39 situation.
- 9:44Speaker 4: It could be.
- 9:45Speaker 2: What do you mean, man?
- 9:46Speaker 3: That you look way younger than... Wait, what?
- 9:50Speaker 4: Yeah, something.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Yeah, you look young for your age.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Something like that. Yeah, so it's a bit of a
- 9:54Speaker 4: shock to the system, but 50th is now next month.
- 9:56Speaker 4: I'm looking forward to it. But you guys aren't going
- 9:58Speaker 4: to be here. I'm having a massive party, but you guys...
- 10:00Speaker 4: will be away.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Yeah, man.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Are you sure you're not having a small party and
- 10:02Speaker 3: then a really big one next year?
- 10:04Speaker 4: Yeah, so to say. That's what I overheard at his
- 10:08Speaker 4: office today. Did you? Yeah.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Did you?
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:12Speaker 4: I don't actually want to do anything.
- 10:13Speaker 2: It's Wellington Paranormal. I don't like parties.
- 10:17Speaker 4: He wants everyone to come to his house. No, I
- 10:18Speaker 4: just need you to come along, Jase.
- 10:20Speaker 2: No, I'm not going to say it.
- 10:21Speaker 4: I just need you to do a speech.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Just quick 10 or 15 minutes. Yeah, no worries.
- 10:25Speaker 2: How much are you paying?
- 10:26Speaker 4: Bet old me. You guys could MC it.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Why don't we do a brainstorm for the party?
- 10:32Speaker 2: Don't fucking... Get.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Kate to run it. Toddy will be there.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Yeah, Toddy will be there. It was great. I love
- 10:38Speaker 4: a Father's Day.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yes. They change, of course, over the years as your
- 10:42Speaker 2: kids get older.
- 10:43Speaker 4: I don't imagine I'll see... Yeah, there'll be 15 years
- 10:46Speaker 4: that I get nothing.
- 10:49Speaker 2: But yes, it's... Nice to be acknowledged. Yeah.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Now and then. Well, not now and then. Once a year.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Once a year.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 11:00Speaker 2: My mum rang me too.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Oh, did she?
- 11:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 2: But not about Father's Day.
- 11:05Speaker 4: No, just about her own ailments, I would have thought.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Some ailments.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Yeah. Yes. And also got up in the morning and
- 11:11Speaker 4: watched the rugby. I was up.
- 11:17Speaker 2: At three in the morning.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Yeah, right. Same.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And I went. I'm not watching the rugby.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Same.
- 11:23Speaker 2: And I went back to bed.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:25Speaker 5: And then watched it at 11.30.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Wow. And you didn't find out the result?
- 11:29Speaker 2: No.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Wow.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Well, we went out for breakfast.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Sure.
- 11:34Speaker 2: So, you know.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Didn't come across it there at all?
- 11:36Speaker 7: No.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Nobody having a mind? I had a bit of a scroll.
- 11:39Speaker 5: Oh, there was a South African guy ahead of us
- 11:41Speaker 5: talking about, he was going, talking to his kids, no bullshit.
- 11:45Speaker 2: And he was saying, you know.
- 11:47Speaker 7: For 20 years, I've had to live with the fact
- 11:50Speaker 7: that we've been beating the All Blacks and they come
- 11:53Speaker 7: back in the last 10 minutes and they always beat
- 11:55Speaker 7: us in the last 10 minutes.
- 11:58Speaker 2: And finally, and I went, put things in my ears.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Yeah, but he had already given it away by then.
- 12:04Speaker 3: It was like when Jase accidentally ruined Alone for you.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I've only got one episode left, Keezy.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I haven't ruined it, have I?
- 12:11Speaker 4: Well, not yet, no. It's down to the final three. God,
- 12:14Speaker 4: it's a great show.
- 12:15Speaker 2: It's good, eh?
- 12:16Speaker 5: I absolutely love it. It's hard not to fucking watch it.
- 12:21Speaker 5: You should watch it, Casey.
- 12:22Speaker 3: My wife wants to watch it.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Yeah, you should. It's so, so good.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I probably will. Yeah. It's right up her alley.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I've just had a bit where an old mate
- 12:32Speaker 4: comes across that wallaby-like creature, you know?
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yes.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Oh, what are they called?
- 12:36Speaker 4: Pompa... Something melon.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Paddy melon.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Paddy melon.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Which is funny because it just looks like a fucking wallaby.
- 12:44Speaker 4: But they're thick as shit from the looks of it.
- 12:46Speaker 4: And I'm surprised, you know, he's just holding on to it.
