- 0:00Speaker 1: Guess who? It's 10 o'clock.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Do you care where your parents are?
- 0:04Speaker 3: This episode is rated M for Misty. Yes, that's right,
- 0:08Speaker 3: this is a Misty episode, so it will be laced
- 0:10Speaker 3: with profanity even more than usual. If you're not comfortable
- 0:13Speaker 3: with this level of profanity, perhaps this isn't the episode
- 0:16Speaker 3: for you. But we have many other episodes to choose
- 0:18Speaker 3: from that do not feature Misty and will probably be
- 0:21Speaker 3: far less offensive. Okay, maybe. With that having been said,
- 0:25Speaker 3: on with the show.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Sea alert.
- 0:34Speaker 5: Defense Corps forces reported just moments ago.
- 0:38Speaker 1: This is not a drill.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Repeat, this is not the drill.
- 0:41Speaker 6: At this time, we are requesting the immediate and orderly
- 0:46Speaker 6: evacuation of the vicinity.
- 0:49Speaker 7: The Coast Guard and the Navy have been alerted and
- 0:51Speaker 7: are standing by on the eastern seaboard.
- 0:53Speaker 8: And it continues to burn out of control.
- 0:56Speaker 3: It has been regular.
- 0:57Speaker 7: Every five to ten minutes, there has been another convoy
- 0:59Speaker 7: of units, fire companies, paramedics.
- 1:03Speaker 9: A citywide emergency has been declared.
- 1:05Speaker 10: Police officers are still on tactical full alert.
- 1:08Speaker 11: 2,000 National Guardsmen are standing by.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Air defense warning read.
- 1:14Speaker 3: It's time for Movie Meltdown's Attack of the Killers soundtrack.
- 1:21Speaker 10: Live transmission has begun, and we're into the final.
- 1:24Speaker 12: Hour of hell.
- 1:48Speaker 13: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack of the
- 1:50Speaker 13: Killer soundtrack.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Guy and Brian.
- 1:51Speaker 14: I'm Misty.
- 1:53Speaker 9: And I'm still Jay.
- 1:54Speaker 14: Still?
- 1:55Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Damn.
- 1:58Speaker 13: You're hoping to swap out at some point. Trade up.
- 2:01Speaker 13: Trade up. And we are coming to you live via
- 2:04Speaker 13: digital recording from the Bastion of Awesomeness to put together
- 2:08Speaker 13: this very special... Special.
- 2:11Speaker 14: Short box.
- 2:11Speaker 13: Pack of the Killer Soundtrack episode.
- 2:13Speaker 14: Velcro shoes.
- 2:14Speaker 13: A very special themed episode that was... I mean, I've
- 2:18Speaker 13: kind of had this in mind, but I thought this
- 2:21Speaker 13: recent event that we went to was a good tie-in.
- 2:24Speaker 13: And we were going to talk about it at some
- 2:26Speaker 13: point on the show anyway, because we have every time
- 2:28Speaker 13: we've run into these people in the world, a certain band.
- 2:32Speaker 13: that you've seen many, many times.
- 2:34Speaker 14: I've only seen them four times.
- 2:36Speaker 13: But I think we've talked about it on the show maybe,
- 2:39Speaker 13: I don't know, the last time was kind of in
- 2:41Speaker 13: between stuff. I don't know if we really talked about
- 2:42Speaker 13: it the last in between time. But I know at
- 2:45Speaker 13: least the two times before that we went into great
- 2:47Speaker 13: detail about them. So I thought this way we'd at
- 2:49Speaker 13: least have a good excuse because we saw Guns N' Roses.
- 2:53Speaker 15: Again.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Again.
- 2:55Speaker 14: And they never disappoint. I'm sorry. They are just, I
- 2:57Speaker 14: don't even give a shit. I just, I can't even,
- 3:00Speaker 14: they're just, Because I'm always like, oh, God, it's so
- 3:02Speaker 14: much money. Because let me tell you, this shit is.
- 3:04Speaker 13: It was not cheap. That was essentially my vacation this year.
- 3:08Speaker 14: You get vacation?
- 3:09Speaker 13: Yeah, I don't. But what I was supposed to get
- 3:12Speaker 13: as a, oops, sorry, we didn't give you a vacation
- 3:14Speaker 13: for umpteen years... I got some money, most of which
- 3:17Speaker 13: went directly towards bills, and what minor amount I had left,
- 3:20Speaker 13: I gave to you for the tickets. So, yay, vacation. Hey,
- 3:24Speaker 13: you know what?
- 3:25Speaker 14: I don't want to sit in the shitty seats. I
- 3:26Speaker 14: don't want to be up in, like, the nosebleeds. Our
- 3:29Speaker 14: seats weren't even, like, the... They weren't, like.
- 3:31Speaker 13: We weren't sitting down in front of the stage. Like,
- 3:33Speaker 13: we were still... To be as much as they... That's
- 3:36Speaker 13: why I think that the pricing in general for concerts
- 3:39Speaker 13: is out of control.
- 3:41Speaker 14: But for the money, he fucking delivers.
- 3:44Speaker 13: They all deliver. I still feel like anywhere in that room,
- 3:47Speaker 13: you would have been pretty happy.
- 3:49Speaker 14: I'm not sitting up. I'm not going third tier. I
- 3:52Speaker 14: don't care. I'm a pissy bitch.
- 3:54Speaker 13: But that's the thing. In that place that in our
- 3:57Speaker 13: lame town that nobody ever goes to anything, filled that arena.
- 4:01Speaker 14: I was getting worried at first because I'm.
- 4:02Speaker 13: Like, We're slackers, I know. And it seemed like we
- 4:06Speaker 13: were gonna do what we normally do, which is, oops,
- 4:08Speaker 13: half of the place is full. Sorry, guys.
- 4:11Speaker 14: Well, that, and they didn't have an opening band. And
- 4:13Speaker 14: there was only an hour in between doors opening and
- 4:16Speaker 14: the band starting. And I'm sorry, but you... When you
- 4:19Speaker 14: have that short amount of time, I was starting to get, oh,
- 4:21Speaker 14: my gosh. They're starting to do the get your ass
- 4:23Speaker 14: in here sounds. And it's not... Yeah, pretty much.
- 4:28Speaker 13: It's got a nice little intro. Actually, I kind of
- 4:31Speaker 13: spent a good amount of time trying to figure out
- 4:32Speaker 13: who makes that intro. Like, that's somebody's job somewhere. Probably
- 4:36Speaker 13: multiple people.
- 4:39Speaker 14: Multiple.
- 4:40Speaker 13: Well, fourth graders from 1997 when they did some of
- 4:43Speaker 13: those graphics.
- 4:43Speaker 16: But.
- 4:44Speaker 13: Just in general, it's just funny that there's such a
- 4:47Speaker 13: separate world that goes on on that screen that the band,
- 4:51Speaker 13: I mean, they might have okayed a few things, but
- 4:53Speaker 13: for the most part, they have nothing to do with that.
- 4:56Speaker 13: So that's somebody, probably lots of people's job is to
- 4:59Speaker 13: put together that very lengthy thing that's going on that
- 5:02Speaker 13: starts before the band and throughout the entire night.
- 5:05Speaker 14: And I still want to know if they've ever seen
- 5:06Speaker 14: a bird. Because the CG birds they had in this,
- 5:11Speaker 14: they were below birdemic level of animation.
- 5:14Speaker 4: It is funny.
- 5:15Speaker 9: I've never seen a bird flap its wings like that.
- 5:17Speaker 14: And they have that extra little sprouty thing.
- 5:19Speaker 13: What the fuck was that?
- 5:20Speaker 9: Did you not study what birds look like? Have you
- 5:23Speaker 9: never seen a bird wing before?
- 5:24Speaker 14: It's like somebody described to them what a bird should do,
- 5:26Speaker 14: and they were just like... Okay, I can do that.
- 5:28Speaker 14: And then they just fail.
- 5:29Speaker 13: They've never looked out a window.
- 5:31Speaker 14: Or the lizard. I'm like, even Slash should have called
- 5:33Speaker 14: them out on that shit.
- 5:34Speaker 13: Really? I mean, nobody knows reptiles and ancient dead reptiles
- 5:39Speaker 13: like Slash. Geek that he is. He could tell you
- 5:42Speaker 13: all about some reptiles.
- 5:43Speaker 14: Oh, I did look up what his stomach tattoo is.
- 5:45Speaker 13: Uh-oh, what is it?
- 5:45Speaker 16: Cash.
- 5:47Speaker 13: I think it would have been more awesome if it
- 5:49Speaker 13: was Slash.
- 5:50Speaker 14: No, because it's his son. His son's name is Cash.
- 5:54Speaker 14: You have son Cash on the front and then London
- 5:56Speaker 14: got the tramp stamp.
- 5:58Speaker 13: It's so sad that Slash has a tramp's name.
- 6:00Speaker 14: With his son's name, London.
- 6:03Speaker 13: And his son's name, London. Isn't that already a rock
- 6:06Speaker 13: star daughter somewhere?
- 6:07Speaker 14: Probably, I wouldn't doubt it. His kids are going to
- 6:10Speaker 14: be pretty attractive, though. They don't have the hair, but
- 6:12Speaker 14: it seems like they have the features.
- 6:13Speaker 13: Does he have little hats for them?
- 6:15Speaker 14: I don't think so. I've not seen any little hats.
- 6:16Speaker 13: I feel like he should have kid-size hats.
- 6:19Speaker 14: That'd be awesome. They're not kids anymore. One of them's 15,
- 6:22Speaker 14: for God's sakes.
- 6:23Speaker 13: When's he starting a band?
- 6:24Speaker 14: I mean, Duff's daughter's already got a band. I don't
- 6:28Speaker 14: think Axel ever reproduced.
- 6:32Speaker 13: Everybody else just got tired of him too quick. We
- 6:34Speaker 13: could have a kid, but I'm leaving.
- 6:36Speaker 14: Yeah, no shit. It's like every time. It's not like
- 6:41Speaker 14: you're getting a short show either.
- 6:43Speaker 13: I think we did a running clock on this one
- 6:46Speaker 13: too because we've brought up in the past. I think
- 6:49Speaker 13: even when you saw him before the reunion part, it
- 6:51Speaker 13: was a lengthy show. Last time when I saw.
- 6:54Speaker 14: Him- The first time you saw him.
- 6:55Speaker 13: It was- Three hours? Well, it was a good 3.15
- 7:00Speaker 13: or so, maybe a little longer. And then, didn't we
- 7:04Speaker 13: say it clocked in about 3.45?
- 7:06Speaker 14: Yeah, three hours and 45 minutes.
- 7:08Speaker 13: No opening band, just them on stage playing for three
- 7:13Speaker 13: hours and 45 minutes.
- 7:14Speaker 14: And how many t-shirt changes did you get?
- 7:15Speaker 13: 47 t-shirt changes. But don't worry, Slash looked the same
- 7:21Speaker 13: all night long.
- 7:22Speaker 14: We were trying to spend a good portion of the
- 7:24Speaker 14: show trying to figure out what the fuck is on
- 7:25Speaker 14: his shirt. Is it a possum? Is it a turtle?
- 7:28Speaker 13: I can't figure it out. There was one or two.
- 7:31Speaker 13: I'm just like... What they should do is just at
- 7:35Speaker 13: the back of the theater sell all the shirts that
- 7:37Speaker 13: he's worn all night.
- 7:38Speaker 14: How about the Slash one? The one shirt that Slash.
- 7:40Speaker 13: Oh, the one shirt that Slash... No, I'm just the Axl.
- 7:42Speaker 13: He should have an entire Axl line that they sell
- 7:45Speaker 13: at the back of the arena and then you could
- 7:47Speaker 13: dress like Axl.
- 7:48Speaker 14: I did specifically go out of my way to buy
- 7:50Speaker 14: a shirt that he wore at the St. Louis show.
- 7:51Speaker 13: I think I remember you showing it.
- 7:53Speaker 14: I was pretty excited about that one. He didn't wear
- 7:55Speaker 14: the kitten shirt this time, so I was kind of disappointed,
- 7:57Speaker 14: but I did see several shirts that I have seen
- 7:58Speaker 14: in previous concerts, so he is repeating.
- 8:00Speaker 13: He's recycling. Should we call him out for that or
- 8:03Speaker 13: is that good?
- 8:05Speaker 14: I don't know.
- 8:05Speaker 13: He's recycling. I mean, I certainly wear some of my
- 8:08Speaker 13: favorites again, so I can't really call him out.
- 8:10Speaker 14: Dude, I have shirts that I've never worn.
- 8:12Speaker 13: Well, I have plenty of shirts I've never worn. I'm
- 8:15Speaker 13: assuming everyone knows because everywhere we go, we're wearing dorky shirts.
- 8:20Speaker 14: Good times. But yeah, it's like I said, it was
- 8:22Speaker 14: damn near four hours and it's just constant. It's just not...
- 8:26Speaker 14: Aside from him leaving to go change shirts, which is
- 8:28Speaker 14: filled up with Slash being awesome and that one guy
- 8:31Speaker 14: trying to be awesome.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:33Speaker 13: No, that's the thing. I was like, by the end
- 8:34Speaker 13: of the night, I was like, I kind of feel
- 8:36Speaker 13: sad for alternate guitar guy.
- 8:39Speaker 14: Fake Izzy.
- 8:40Speaker 13: I don't even know what his name is.
- 8:41Speaker 14: Something Fortis.
- 8:43Speaker 13: They named him whatever. But I'm like, you know.
- 8:45Speaker 14: He's not Izzy.
- 8:46Speaker 13: Watching him play though, I'm like.
- 8:48Speaker 14: If he was in any other band?
- 8:49Speaker 13: Yeah, I was going to say, he's a good guitarist.
- 8:52Speaker 13: In any other band, when he got up and did
- 8:54Speaker 13: a solo, you would be floored. You'd be like, that
- 8:56Speaker 13: dude is awesome. But when you're in the band with Slash.
- 9:00Speaker 14: You might as well just calm your shit down and
- 9:01Speaker 14: go stand in a corner.
- 9:02Speaker 13: Yeah, just go sit down in the arena with other
- 9:04Speaker 13: people because you're not a star when you've got Axl
- 9:08Speaker 13: running around all night. Duff's kind of looking hot these days.
- 9:11Speaker 14: I'm not even going to lie. He's been looking hot
- 9:12Speaker 14: for the past couple years.
- 9:13Speaker 13: But in general, I don't know. I've seen him... I
- 9:16Speaker 13: don't know, something about him. He was on the big screen,
- 9:18Speaker 13: and I'm like, he's just rocking the mature David Bowie
- 9:23Speaker 13: look when he got the long-ish hair, but he started
- 9:27Speaker 13: wearing it maybe right after he got out of the
- 9:29Speaker 13: total suits phase, but he just kind of got the
- 9:31Speaker 13: longer hair and was looking like a cool old dude,
- 9:34Speaker 13: and I'm like, dude, Duff, you moved right into that territory.
- 9:36Speaker 14: Dude, who would have saw that coming? I mean, back
- 9:39Speaker 14: in the bloaty days.
- 9:40Speaker 6: Yeah, he was.
- 9:41Speaker 13: He kind of beat everybody else to the bloaty.
- 9:43Speaker 16: Punch, too.
- 9:44Speaker 14: He, like, died. Like, I'm not even, like, being facetious. He, like,
- 9:48Speaker 14: didn't his, like, liver explode or something?
- 9:51Speaker 13: Of the many dead rock stars that somehow are still
- 9:54Speaker 13: out there killing them like powering through.
- 9:56Speaker 14: Yeah I mean I know he died at some point
- 9:58Speaker 14: I know Nikki Sixx died.
- 10:00Speaker 13: Nikki Sixx definitely died.
- 10:01Speaker 14: Because I think Slash saved him he also saved like
- 10:04Speaker 14: way to go Slash I like Nikki Sixx I still
- 10:09Speaker 14: like him I.
- 10:09Speaker 13: Hear him on his radio show I've had enough of
- 10:11Speaker 13: him I like.
- 10:11Speaker 14: Him I like his radio show but yeah it's like
- 10:13Speaker 14: if you're on the same stage with Slash and you're
- 10:16Speaker 14: just stop.
- 10:17Speaker 13: Wrap it up just go sit down somewhere.
- 10:19Speaker 14: I am kind of sad that they don't roll out
- 10:21Speaker 14: Steven Adler anymore.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Popcorn!
- 10:24Speaker 14: After his mom wrote that book pretty much about how
- 10:26Speaker 14: Guns N' Roses ruined his life, I don't think he's
- 10:27Speaker 14: allowed to play anymore.
- 10:29Speaker 13: My mom said I can't play with you guys anymore.
- 10:32Speaker 14: Which is funny because she wrote this book pretty much
- 10:33Speaker 14: how they took over his life. I've seen several signed
- 10:36Speaker 14: copies that he signs, and he still signs Steven Adler,
- 10:39Speaker 14: G & R. I'm like, dude, your mom.
- 10:41Speaker 13: G & R doesn't want me. Love popcorn.
- 10:44Speaker 14: I love them.
- 10:45Speaker 13: I just.
- 10:47Speaker 14: I do. It's like, but Axel, I mean, he seems
- 10:48Speaker 14: like he's way chilled out now.
- 10:50Speaker 13: Really? Surprisingly.
- 10:52Speaker 14: I mean, I do kind of, I wasn't old enough
- 10:55Speaker 14: to have gone seen like the early days, you know,
- 10:58Speaker 14: I would have loved it. Even use your illusion to her.
- 11:00Speaker 14: I would have fucking loved to have seen that shit.
- 11:02Speaker 14: I would have loved to have been privy to the rants.
- 11:04Speaker 14: You know, I've watched videos. I've, I've seen, I've seen
- 11:08Speaker 14: the shenanigans that Axel Rose Kapoor.
- 11:10Speaker 13: I mean, by then it also reached that, point of
- 11:12Speaker 13: no return overblown overproduced nonsense that was kind of going
- 11:17Speaker 13: on it use your illusion like if you could have
- 11:19Speaker 13: seen him an appetite for destruction like or pre like
- 11:23Speaker 13: if you could have seen him on freaking sunset strip.
- 11:26Speaker 14: Like when i get my time machine if i have
- 11:29Speaker 14: if i could have like that's gonna be like my
- 11:31Speaker 14: thing i can go do i will go if i
- 11:33Speaker 14: had my time machine that's the first place that i'm
- 11:34Speaker 14: going is to see like early guns and roses you
- 11:38Speaker 14: know the whiskey you know.
- 11:40Speaker 17: Any of those LA days.
- 11:41Speaker 14: That would have been one of my first places to go.
- 11:43Speaker 14: But god, I bet they were sleazy as shit.
- 11:45Speaker 13: Oh, yeah. Again, I think now you're probably getting a
- 11:50Speaker 13: much better shit. Especially, Slash is so good. He's always
- 11:55Speaker 13: been good. But I used to hear about him knocking
- 11:58Speaker 13: out a bottle of Jack Daniels while he was sitting there.
- 12:01Speaker 13: I'm like, it's got to eventually start to affect how
- 12:05Speaker 13: tight your game is. So I'm like, now that he's
- 12:07Speaker 13: just old and dorky, I'm sure he is like... way
- 12:10Speaker 13: more precise and impressive.
- 12:12Speaker 14: Because, yeah, I'm pretty sure he's, like, pretty much straight, like,
- 12:14Speaker 14: as far as... Yeah, I think so. As far as...
- 12:16Speaker 14: I know, I'm not, like, his friend. We don't hang out.
- 12:18Speaker 14: I don't, like... Yet.
- 12:20Speaker 13: We're working on it.
- 12:20Speaker 14: I don't patrol his substance intake or whatever variety. I mean,
- 12:25Speaker 14: in my mind, they're all pretty much clean and pretty
- 12:27Speaker 14: much straight.
- 12:27Speaker 13: Either way, I think to run things the way he
- 12:30Speaker 13: does now, like, I feel like you'd have to at
- 12:32Speaker 13: least be on a relatively narrow path.
- 12:34Speaker 14: I feel like Axel's making up for all those years
- 12:36Speaker 14: of being kind of a dick.
- 12:37Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 12:37Speaker 14: Because, I mean, there's no... All right, show starts at 9.
- 12:41Speaker 14: We're going to go on a run.
- 12:43Speaker 13: About 10.45 we'll roll in.
- 12:44Speaker 14: Because, I mean, the show was set to start at, what, 7.30?
- 12:48Speaker 14: Is it 7.30? They went on by 7.40.
- 12:50Speaker 13: And that was with 10 minutes of the intro thing.
- 12:54Speaker 14: Get your ass in here because we're getting ready to start.
- 12:56Speaker 13: The animation's going on.
- 12:58Speaker 14: But he is on, you know.
- 12:59Speaker 13: The show technically kind of started on time. And they
- 13:02Speaker 13: just did so long, puts people outside getting preached at.
- 13:05Speaker 13: We didn't go into that either.
- 13:06Speaker 14: Yeah, we got preached. I haven't seen fucking preaching protesters
- 13:10Speaker 14: at concerts since Marilyn Manson in 1997.
- 13:13Speaker 13: They had a giant sign and a megaphone.
- 13:17Speaker 14: Good Lord.
- 13:18Speaker 13: And what's sad is like, well, not sad. Fuck them.
- 13:23Speaker 13: I'm proud of it. Everything he was like, this guy
- 13:25Speaker 13: would be ranting on. And I'm like, everything he was
- 13:28Speaker 13: going up against, I was like, nope, I'm okay with that.
- 13:31Speaker 13: I'm okay with that. I'm like, everything that you don't like,
- 13:37Speaker 13: I like, or at least we'll get behind. Fuck you, buddy.
- 13:41Speaker 14: He wasn't paying that much attention to what he was saying.
- 13:43Speaker 14: I was just making sure we were in the right line.
- 13:46Speaker 13: Again, like throw it, like lumping in, like rock and
- 13:50Speaker 13: roll with like being gay. And I'm like, you know what?
- 13:54Speaker 13: Fine with all that. Like, Excessive drug use, still kind
- 13:57Speaker 13: of up to you. Not a good idea for you health-wise,
- 14:01Speaker 13: but I'm like, personal freedom. You do whatever the hell
- 14:04Speaker 13: you want, as far as I'm concerned.
- 14:05Speaker 14: As long as it doesn't affect me and my family
- 14:07Speaker 14: and women.
- 14:07Speaker 13: Yeah, all the rest of this stuff he kept throwing
- 14:09Speaker 13: out and all these terrible things. And I'm like, no, no,
- 14:12Speaker 13: I'm kind of okay with all these things you're fighting against.
- 14:16Speaker 13: I'm like, screw you. Take your megaphone and go home, jackass. So,
- 14:20Speaker 13: I don't know. That was really annoying.
- 14:22Speaker 14: But yeah, he busted out some cover songs this time
- 14:24Speaker 14: that I hadn't heard before. What was the Lineman song?
- 14:29Speaker 14: What was that?
- 14:30Speaker 15: Oh, yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 13: The Wichita Lineman.
- 14:32Speaker 14: Yeah, Wichita Lineman. I haven't heard him do that one before.
- 14:35Speaker 9: That's a different one.
- 14:36Speaker 14: I mean, they bust out songs that you wouldn't really
- 14:39Speaker 14: expect half the time. I mean, they still play Coma.
- 14:41Speaker 14: And Coma, good fucking God, that's a long song.
- 14:43Speaker 13: Oh, that's the thing. That's one of those that I
- 14:44Speaker 13: feel like could be lost and you would never... Again,
- 14:47Speaker 13: because it's not like it was a big hit. So
- 14:48Speaker 13: it's like... I can see them not even playing it
- 14:51Speaker 13: live or.
- 14:51Speaker 14: Ever, but they've played coma every time.
- 14:53Speaker 13: I really like coma. So I'm so glad that it
- 14:56Speaker 13: still kind of has a life of its own.
- 14:57Speaker 14: And they played my favorite, which is a strange, I
- 14:59Speaker 14: could listen to that song over and over again. They
- 15:00Speaker 14: play yesterday's, which was one of my favorites. They're probably
- 15:03Speaker 14: not going to pay my, like my favorite favorite, which
- 15:05Speaker 14: is you're crazy. Either variant of that version of that song.
- 15:08Speaker 14: I fucking love that song, but, uh, or breakdown. I
- 15:12Speaker 14: could listen to breakdown over and over again, but, uh,
- 15:15Speaker 14: or anything off lies lies is so fucking underrated i
- 15:18Speaker 14: don't care yeah yeah can't argue but uh yeah almost
- 15:23Speaker 14: four hours and it's just like i said it's non-stop
- 15:25Speaker 14: they're all running around they're all all over the place.
- 15:29Speaker 13: Again i don't even want to stand anywhere for four
- 15:31Speaker 13: hours let alone they were like running and jumping and
- 15:34Speaker 13: like like belting out music like They're putting a lot
- 15:39Speaker 13: of work into this for four hours straight. And they're
- 15:42Speaker 13: old guys.
- 15:42Speaker 14: And I can't wait because Slash was climbing the stairs
- 15:44Speaker 14: and I'm like jumping. I'm like, dude, you're going to
- 15:46Speaker 14: bust a fucking hip. Calm your shit, dude.
- 15:47Speaker 13: Don't hurt yourself.
- 15:49Speaker 14: God, he's fucking awesome though. But it's like, he was.
- 15:51Speaker 14: It was just constant. I don't think he left the
- 15:53Speaker 14: stage at any point.
- 15:54Speaker 13: I don't think so.
- 15:55Speaker 14: You know, he might have walked over to change guitars,
- 15:58Speaker 14: but he wasn't like Axl who had to go, you know,
- 16:00Speaker 14: costume change. Seriously, in one song.
- 16:02Speaker 1: He's a showman.
- 16:03Speaker 14: During one song, he changed shirts twice. I mean, seriously, dude.
- 16:07Speaker 13: But then there was a stretch towards the end there.
- 16:09Speaker 13: He was wearing that same shirt for like 45 minutes.
- 16:11Speaker 13: I'm like, why now is it okay to keep wearing
- 16:13Speaker 13: that shirt? It's all confusing in Axl's world.
- 16:17Speaker 14: Good time. Do you have any comments on the Guns
- 16:19Speaker 14: N' Roses show? I'm just going to sit over here rambling.
- 16:21Speaker 1: No, not really.
- 16:23Speaker 9: It's a good show. I don't have anything to say.
- 16:28Speaker 14: What's been your favorite time we've seen Guns N' Roses
- 16:30Speaker 14: so far? I'll tell you my favorite while you think
- 16:34Speaker 14: about it. It's the time when they brought out Steven Adler.
- 16:36Speaker 9: Yeah, that's probably the same.
- 16:37Speaker 13: That was pretty awesome. The fact that four of the
- 16:40Speaker 13: five skull heads were sitting in front of this. I'm like,
- 16:42Speaker 13: that's pretty damn cool.
- 16:44Speaker 14: I even wore my shirt so you can't see it
- 16:47Speaker 14: at home.
- 16:47Speaker 13: Just look at it. You guys, look at your.
- 16:50Speaker 14: iPhone or whatever. I went to the mecca of buying
- 16:52Speaker 14: your rock and roll shirts.
- 16:54Speaker 17: Kohl's.
- 16:58Speaker 13: With other 12-year-old kids that don't know who that band is,
- 17:00Speaker 13: but they do like skulls.
- 17:02Speaker 14: Okay.
- 17:05Speaker 13: Oh wow and I yeah I did I just mentioned
- 17:08Speaker 13: I didn't see you after we left that night so
- 17:11Speaker 13: I didn't get to tell you I passed by the
- 17:12Speaker 13: guy selling the knockoff shirts if you.
- 17:14Speaker 14: Would have told me I would have went looking for
- 17:16Speaker 14: him or I'd have had you buy me one and
- 17:17Speaker 14: I paid you back later I.
- 17:17Speaker 13: Didn't know the thing I was just like there's too
- 17:19Speaker 13: many people I was just trying to get away from
- 17:20Speaker 13: people in general I'm like ugh I just want to
- 17:22Speaker 13: go to the car get away from me get away
- 17:24Speaker 13: and I kind of later was like as I passed
- 17:26Speaker 13: him was like Oh, I think he was still in
- 17:28Speaker 13: knockoff shirts.
- 17:29Speaker 14: I love knockoff shirts. I've got two knockoff Guns N'
- 17:32Speaker 14: Roses shirts. No shame, no shame. They've never disappointed. I mean,
- 17:38Speaker 14: it's just... And I keep saying, all right, this is
- 17:41Speaker 14: going to be the last time because it's so much money.
- 17:43Speaker 14: And then I see them, I'm like, God damn.
- 17:45Speaker 13: And this time they came to us. I can't fight that.
- 17:47Speaker 13: That was my thing. I was like, yeah, it's more
- 17:50Speaker 13: money than I need to spend. But how often do
- 17:52Speaker 13: I not have to put any work into going to
- 17:54Speaker 13: see Guns N' Roses?
- 17:55Speaker 14: And I bought something. I don't know if that's going
- 17:57Speaker 14: to tie into anything at all. It might tie into...
- 18:00Speaker 14: It ties into Guns N' Roses.
- 18:03Speaker 18: Alright.
- 18:03Speaker 14: Sort of.
- 18:05Speaker 13: Not this shirt you got at Kohl's.
- 18:07Speaker 14: Not the shirt I got at Kohl's. Something that I... Okay.
- 18:09Speaker 14: I've had this book right here. I bought it... What
- 18:12Speaker 14: did it say? 13 days after it came out.
- 18:15Speaker 13: What?
- 18:16Speaker 3: Here was this?
- 18:17Speaker 14: This came out in... Hold on. Let me double check.
- 18:20Speaker 14: I'm pretty sure it was 1995.
- 18:21Speaker 19: 1995.
- 18:23Speaker 14: Yes, it came out January 1st of 1995, and according
- 18:26Speaker 14: to my receipt, which is still stuck in the pages,
- 18:28Speaker 14: I bought it January the 14th of 1995 from Walden Books.
- 18:33Speaker 14: My receipt, which is aged.
- 18:35Speaker 13: What's a bookstore?
- 18:36Speaker 16: Yeah, exactly.
- 18:38Speaker 14: So, I mean, but this is.
- 18:39Speaker 4: I.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Bought this book.
- 18:42Speaker 14: I was so excited. This was like in a world
- 18:44Speaker 14: before the internet. So how I knew this book was
- 18:46Speaker 14: even coming out, I can't even remember.
- 18:48Speaker 13: The Language of Fear by Del James.
- 18:51Speaker 14: Fucking A.
- 18:53Speaker 13: Ooh, it even says on the front, on the cover
- 18:56Speaker 13: here next to some roses, includes the story that inspired
- 19:00Speaker 13: the number one Guns N' Roses hit video, November Rain.
- 19:04Speaker 14: Because it tells you the whole story because it was
- 19:05Speaker 14: supposed to be a trilogy. Don't Cry, November Rain, and
- 19:08Speaker 14: A Stranger's Hospital. So weaved together to be one story.
- 19:11Speaker 14: But then Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour broke up. So
- 19:13Speaker 14: we don't get the finale of the third one. But
- 19:15Speaker 14: this one, this one came out a couple years ago.
- 19:18Speaker 14: And I bought it. And it came.
- 19:21Speaker 13: What is this one called?
- 19:23Speaker 14: Oh, it's the same thing.
- 19:25Speaker 13: New and improved?
- 19:26Speaker 14: Because it's signed by the author.
- 19:28Speaker 6: Oh, my God.
- 19:31Speaker 14: Diabolical greetings from Del James. And I was so excited
- 19:35Speaker 14: because you have no idea how many times I read
- 19:38Speaker 14: this book.
- 19:40Speaker 13: The bookmark is.
- 19:41Speaker 14: Even, if you'll notice, in the space right before Without You,
- 19:45Speaker 14: which is the story that the video is based off of.
- 19:48Speaker 17: Hmm.
- 19:50Speaker 14: Read the shit out of that story. So I know
- 19:51Speaker 14: how she does.
- 19:54Speaker 13: Yeah, it does sort of jump in the middle of that.
- 19:56Speaker 13: Once the piano, like, darker part kicks in right before
- 20:01Speaker 13: we get the slash solo, it takes a weird turn
- 20:04Speaker 13: in the song. Granted, the song's supposed to be taking
- 20:07Speaker 13: that turn, but The video also takes a weird turn,
- 20:09Speaker 13: and suddenly it's just dead and sad and funeral, and
- 20:13Speaker 13: nobody knows what the hell's going on.
- 20:14Speaker 14: Well, because when you were supposed to get to the
- 20:16Speaker 14: third video, it was strange. It was supposed to go
- 20:18Speaker 14: into how she died. And like I said, with their
- 20:21Speaker 14: relationship ending, apparently she did not want to be in
- 20:23Speaker 14: the video any further.
- 20:25Speaker 13: And this is why he doesn't have a kid now.
- 20:26Speaker 14: Yeah, exactly. But yeah, so I know how she dies.
- 20:31Speaker 14: I'm not going to tell you.
- 20:32Speaker 9: Don't spoil it.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 20:35Speaker 13: Except the book, so I'm not going to read it.
- 20:37Speaker 16: I know.
- 20:37Speaker 13: Because that would involve reading.
- 20:38Speaker 14: Which is why you're never going to know. You will laugh.
- 20:43Speaker 3: I'm not going to laugh.
- 20:44Speaker 14: But anyways.
- 20:45Speaker 13: I'll just watch the video. Those are like short movies.
- 20:47Speaker 14: But they don't tell you how she dies.
- 20:49Speaker 15: Yeah, I know.
- 20:49Speaker 13: But I like the movie. The River Rain is a
- 20:51Speaker 13: pretty epic video.
- 20:52Speaker 14: That is epic in all the right ways. That dress, dude.
- 20:56Speaker 14: That dress. Don't act like you don't know the dress.
- 21:01Speaker 14: It's been a while. I had to show a boyfriend.
- 21:03Speaker 14: He didn't know either. I'm like, how do you all
- 21:05Speaker 14: not remember this dress? Hmm. The super short white.
- 21:11Speaker 13: I mean, I was thinking white, so maybe I kind
- 21:13Speaker 13: of remember it.
- 21:13Speaker 14: It's super short, kind of puffy, epic.
- 21:16Speaker 13: Maybe I do kind of have it lodged in my brain.
- 21:20Speaker 14: But yeah, good times. I was excited. I found that
- 21:22Speaker 14: book for a decent price because I'm a shopper of
- 21:26Speaker 14: bargains and deals. But anyways, super excited. It kind of
- 21:29Speaker 14: ties together because it's Guns N' Roses related. And he
- 21:32Speaker 14: does play November Rain in the show, which I'm always
- 21:34Speaker 14: pretty excited. Good fucking God. Let's take a second.
- 21:38Speaker 13: Are we talking about some jewelry choices?
- 21:40Speaker 14: That's what I'm getting ready to get into.
- 21:42Speaker 13: The fact that they parked a small ice cube on
- 21:46Speaker 13: his hand.
- 21:47Speaker 14: That is not a small ice cube. I could park
- 21:49Speaker 14: my car on that fucking ring.
- 21:52Speaker 7: Seriously.
- 21:52Speaker 14: And it doesn't look like it fits. It keeps sliding around.
- 21:54Speaker 14: And he's like, I'm like, dude, just take it off.
- 21:57Speaker 14: I mean, yeah, it's huge. And you're fancy. You're like,
- 21:59Speaker 14: that's like. What did we say? Elvis? I said Elvis,
- 22:02Speaker 14: and you said Liberace.
- 22:03Speaker 13: I said that was full-on Liberace. That's exactly what it
- 22:07Speaker 13: reminded me of.
- 22:07Speaker 14: It's definitely a newer thing, because I went back and
- 22:09Speaker 14: watched some videos from the 90s.
- 22:13Speaker 13: Because doesn't he only put it on during the piano
- 22:15Speaker 13: songs when there's giant close-ups on his hands? So he's like, guys, guys,
- 22:19Speaker 13: look at this giant ring I have.
- 22:21Speaker 14: But he's done it every time since we've started seeing them.
- 22:24Speaker 14: It wasn't a thing in the 90s, apparently, but now
- 22:26Speaker 14: it's like a thing. And it's just fucking huge.
- 22:31Speaker 13: It's ridiculous. And it's not even shaped like a diamond.
- 22:34Speaker 13: It's like a big weird square shape. It's not even
- 22:36Speaker 13: like a traditional.
- 22:37Speaker 14: Is it pillow cut?
- 22:39Speaker 13: It's like the size of a charcoal briquette, only maybe
- 22:42Speaker 13: a little larger.
- 22:43Speaker 14: And shiny.
- 22:44Speaker 13: And it never got turned into a diamond. It's just
- 22:46Speaker 13: waiting to be a diamond at some point. Except this
- 22:49Speaker 13: one just became a diamond.
- 22:50Speaker 14: It just seems like it'd be cumbersome. It's impractical.
- 22:55Speaker 20: Oh, man.
- 22:56Speaker 14: Good times.
- 23:00Speaker 13: So that was the tie in because I knew again
- 23:04Speaker 13: we always end up talking about him so I was
- 23:06Speaker 13: like well how about a good reason I mean not
- 23:10Speaker 13: that we haven't played him on this show several times
- 23:12Speaker 13: along the way anyway but I was thinking and it's
- 23:16Speaker 13: maybe because I feel like it was on cable not
- 23:18Speaker 13: that long ago and then I did go back recently
- 23:21Speaker 13: I think it was right after we saw them I
- 23:23Speaker 13: was like I know I remember them being in the Deadpool,
- 23:27Speaker 13: but I don't really remember specifics. And then I went
- 23:30Speaker 13: back and rewatched it. Oh, yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 14: I watched this movie specifically for them several times. You
- 23:34Speaker 14: have the brief cameo at the funeral.
- 23:37Speaker 16: Yep.
- 23:39Speaker 14: And I got to admit, ashamedly, I thought Jim Carrey
- 23:43Speaker 14: was hot in this movie.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yikes.
- 23:45Speaker 9: In which movie?
- 23:46Speaker 14: The Deadpool.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I don't remember.
- 23:48Speaker 9: I never saw that movie.
- 23:49Speaker 13: He's fake Axl Rose.
- 23:50Speaker 14: Yeah, I think I made you watch the him pretending
- 23:52Speaker 14: to be Axl Rose while they're filming the video.
- 23:54Speaker 13: Which is not very good. Now, granted, he's supposed to
- 23:56Speaker 13: be on drugs, so I guess he's not supposed to
- 23:58Speaker 13: be doing it very good. It's just why he gets
- 24:00Speaker 13: in trouble when a really tacky, ponytailed Liam Neeson yells
- 24:04Speaker 13: at him. No, really, guys. Really bad ponytail on Liam Neeson.
- 24:10Speaker 14: I would not say anything bad about Liam Neeson. He
- 24:12Speaker 14: will come and get you.
- 24:13Speaker 13: Because he taught Batman how to fight and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
- 24:19Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 24:20Speaker 14: But yeah, I watched that movie. Specifically for Guns N' Roses.
- 24:24Speaker 14: Because I was like, dude, you don't even know my
- 24:27Speaker 14: obsession with Guns N' Roses. Especially at that point in
- 24:31Speaker 14: my life. To this day, it's not even like wanded
- 24:33Speaker 14: that much. I'm still like, or waned. I used the
- 24:35Speaker 14: wrong word. Wand, waned. Either way, I love me some
- 24:38Speaker 14: Guns N' Roses. I was beyond obsessed. I was going
- 24:41Speaker 14: to marry Axl Rose. Unbeknownst to him.
- 24:43Speaker 13: That's the story I've heard as long as I've known him.
- 24:45Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 24:46Speaker 14: But, uh. Yeah, I watched that movie so many times.
- 24:50Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 24:51Speaker 13: It's pretty minimal, by the way.
- 24:52Speaker 16: Very, very.
- 24:53Speaker 14: You blink and you fucking miss that shit.
- 24:55Speaker 13: You do get... Actually, there's... They are just sort of lurking.
- 24:58Speaker 13: I was trying to remember if they were in the
- 24:59Speaker 13: background of a scene and they were in the recording
- 25:01Speaker 13: studio and I still never found that one again. There
- 25:04Speaker 13: is them shooting a music video that looks like it's
- 25:06Speaker 13: a pirate ship and then... slash in full regular slash
- 25:11Speaker 13: wearing the hat even that far back wearing the hat
- 25:14Speaker 13: fires a harpoon across into a yeah it's that part's
- 25:19Speaker 13: weird I don't think Axel I didn't see Axel there
- 25:22Speaker 13: so either again he had attitude and didn't show up
- 25:24Speaker 13: that day when they were shooting or I don't know.
- 25:27Speaker 14: He showed up two hours late and they were already
- 25:28Speaker 14: done that.
- 25:28Speaker 13: Was probably it and then he yelled at everybody for
- 25:31Speaker 13: shooting you started.
- 25:32Speaker 14: The movie without me seriously who do you think would
- 25:35Speaker 14: win in a contest of being angry him or Clint Eastwood.
- 25:40Speaker 13: Now Clint Eastwood or then Clint Eastwood?
- 25:42Speaker 14: Either one, because I'm pretty sure even back in the
- 25:44Speaker 14: day he could probably take him. And I love me
- 25:46Speaker 14: some crazy Axl.
- 25:47Speaker 13: Clint's kind of a badass.
- 25:49Speaker 14: He's very much a badass.
- 25:50Speaker 13: I think Axl thought he was a badass, but Clint
- 25:53Speaker 13: kind of was.
- 25:54Speaker 9: It's Clint Eastwood all the way.
- 25:55Speaker 13: Yeah, I was like, maybe he still is. Everything I've read.
- 25:56Speaker 9: About Clint Eastwood, he's still fucking crazy.
- 25:59Speaker 13: To this day, he might just punch you in the
- 26:01Speaker 13: face for something. I wouldn't mess with him now, if
- 26:04Speaker 13: I were you.
- 26:05Speaker 14: Axl Rose did punch David Bowie in the face once.
- 26:07Speaker 13: That seems uncalled for. Who doesn't love David Bowie?
- 26:10Speaker 14: Well, apparently he was flirting with one of Axel's girlfriends
- 26:12Speaker 14: and it did not go over well. He can't help it.
- 26:14Speaker 13: He was David Bowie. Everything around him just gets flirted with.
- 26:18Speaker 13: He's just that damn intoxicating.
- 26:21Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love me some Bowie.
- 26:26Speaker 13: So this was what sort of tied it together because
- 26:30Speaker 13: I knew they're in there minorly, pretty minorly, again, going
- 26:34Speaker 13: back and looking at it. But the song's featured heavily
- 26:38Speaker 13: in a bad way because it's Jim Carrey pretending to badly.
- 26:41Speaker 14: Be the lead singer of.
- 26:42Speaker 13: This band that is the band that he's the singer
- 26:46Speaker 13: of within the context of the movie. And we never
- 26:49Speaker 13: really know. They're just, again, they were, I went back
- 26:51Speaker 13: and looked, they're credited as musician at funeral. So we
- 26:55Speaker 13: don't know if they're supposed to be the other guys
- 26:57Speaker 13: in that band that Jim Carrey is in.
- 26:59Speaker 14: Or just other musicians.
- 27:00Speaker 13: Or they're just random friends of him. Yeah, we don't know.
- 27:03Speaker 13: They're just random musicians. But because they're in that music
- 27:06Speaker 13: video part, I would assume they're supposed to be the
- 27:09Speaker 13: rest of the band that Jim Carrey is the lead
- 27:11Speaker 13: singer of. Something like that.
- 27:13Speaker 14: If it makes you all feel any better, Jim Carrey's
- 27:15Speaker 14: character does very much die. So that's good.
- 27:18Speaker 13: I mean, it is the Deadpool. There's a lot of
- 27:19Speaker 13: people that die in it. That's kind of the whole
- 27:21Speaker 13: point of the story. No spoilers, really. And it's been
- 27:24Speaker 13: a long time to get with. So that aside, I
- 27:27Speaker 13: was like, okay, so to sort of tie it in,
- 27:29Speaker 13: as much as, like with any of these, I don't
- 27:31Speaker 13: like to set it to specific rule because I like
- 27:34Speaker 13: to be able to just spiral out and come up
- 27:37Speaker 13: with something more interesting along the way, which is kind
- 27:39Speaker 13: of what we're going to do right here. I was like, okay,
- 27:41Speaker 13: we'll find either bands that kind of play themselves or
- 27:46Speaker 13: some version of a band in a movie or just
- 27:48Speaker 13: musicians that had a weird cameo and then come up
- 27:51Speaker 13: with some sort of song that, you know, spirals off
- 27:53Speaker 13: of that. And this is one of the reasons, like,
- 27:56Speaker 13: I wanted to not tie it directly to it, because
- 27:59Speaker 13: the only song that they really play is Welcome to
- 28:02Speaker 13: the Jungle. Now, I'm guessing... Everybody. I don't know that
- 28:05Speaker 13: anyone in the world could have not heard Welcome... I
- 28:08Speaker 13: heard it today. It was on the radio earlier today
- 28:11Speaker 13: that I didn't even put it on that channel. I
- 28:12Speaker 13: was just in the room. There it was. Can't complain.
- 28:16Speaker 13: And what's funny is, again, radio stations are so... The
- 28:20Speaker 13: 20 songs that they play over and over, less than
- 28:22Speaker 13: an hour, they played another Guns N' Roses song. I
- 28:24Speaker 13: was like, Don't get me wrong, I'm all for that,
- 28:26Speaker 13: except you really, come on, you gotta mix things up
- 28:28Speaker 13: a little. Like, radio stations kind of suck. That's why
- 28:30Speaker 13: you guys need to just listen to podcasts with music,
- 28:33Speaker 13: because obviously they're way better.
- 28:34Speaker 14: Boyfriend stabbed somebody to Welcome to the Jungle. Was it
- 28:36Speaker 14: Welcome to the Jungle?
- 28:37Speaker 9: Yeah, it was Welcome to the Jungle.
- 28:38Speaker 14: Okay.
- 28:39Speaker 13: Any specific reason?
- 28:41Speaker 14: Pissed him off.
- 28:42Speaker 13: This is a very Axl thing for you to do?
- 28:45Speaker 9: Well, no, it was in high school. I just happened
- 28:48Speaker 9: to be listening to that song, so.
- 28:52Speaker 13: Rock music makes you do evil things, kids.
- 28:54Speaker 9: It does make you do evil things, yeah.
- 28:57Speaker 13: You were playing your cassette tape backwards, probably.
- 28:59Speaker 9: Stab one person, cut another guy, whatever.
- 29:02Speaker 13: Set the school on fire, whatever.
- 29:04Speaker 9: I didn't set the school on fire. I never did that.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Just the word.
- 29:07Speaker 9: Yeah, I did set the field on fire.
- 29:10Speaker 13: I put a restaurant on fire one time. You know,
- 29:13Speaker 13: it happens.
- 29:14Speaker 14: It's not church.
- 29:14Speaker 21: Oops.
- 29:15Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 29:16Speaker 13: Anyway so that was that was my thing I was
- 29:18Speaker 13: almost gonna throw it to you if we're gonna go
- 29:21Speaker 13: a little off the beaten path probably not for anybody
- 29:25Speaker 13: who's a hardcore fan because there's only so many songs
- 29:27Speaker 13: to choose from but not welcome to the jungle I
- 29:30Speaker 13: mean we've all heard that so then I started looking
- 29:33Speaker 13: ahead you go along and don't get me wrong they're
- 29:36Speaker 13: on a lot of stuff But it's the same four
- 29:39Speaker 13: songs over and over. It's Welcome to the Jungle most
- 29:42Speaker 13: of the time.
- 29:42Speaker 14: It's a good song. You Could Be Mine's a good song.
- 29:45Speaker 13: But we've already done that one. We've played You Could
- 29:47Speaker 13: Be Mine. That's the thing. We've already played at least
- 29:49Speaker 13: two of the other awesome, no, I think three other
- 29:51Speaker 13: awesome songs.
- 29:52Speaker 14: Because we played Sympathy for the Devil.
- 29:53Speaker 13: We played Sympathy for the Devil, and I think we
- 29:57Speaker 13: played Live and Let Die, too.
- 29:59Speaker 14: We haven't done Oh My God yet, I believe.
- 30:01Speaker 13: That was the thing. I'm looking ahead to find something
- 30:04Speaker 13: else like not those same four that they play over
- 30:07Speaker 13: and over again.
- 30:08Speaker 14: Dave Navarro plays guitar on that one.
- 30:09Speaker 13: And yeah, Oh My God is the first. And that's
- 30:13Speaker 13: going ahead to 1999? The End of Days? Yeah, End
- 30:17Speaker 13: of Days.
- 30:18Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 30:18Speaker 13: Do you want that one? Because I don't know how
- 30:21Speaker 13: much even.
- 30:22Speaker 14: Guns N' Roses fans love that one. Did you check
- 30:24Speaker 14: the soundtrack on IMDb to see if they had anything else?
- 30:28Speaker 13: Well, that's the thing. I can go, I found some
- 30:30Speaker 13: other options that are actually, because again, I think even
- 30:33Speaker 13: the ruling is most Guns N' Roses fans don't really
- 30:36Speaker 13: even like Oh My God that much.
- 30:38Speaker 14: Oh, see, gone baby gone head, you're crazy.
- 30:41Speaker 3: I got that on here too.
- 30:44Speaker 14: You have the fast version and the slow version.
- 30:46Speaker 13: That's the thing, I double checked. See, this is why
- 30:48Speaker 13: it takes so long to get this stuff prepped. I
- 30:50Speaker 13: actually know which version it is because I went back
- 30:52Speaker 13: and found it.
- 30:53Speaker 14: Which is it?
- 30:53Speaker 13: If you go back and watch the scene, it's in
- 30:56Speaker 13: a bar, and Will Shaver goes in, and they're talking,
- 31:00Speaker 13: and it's barely in the background, but I heard it
- 31:02Speaker 13: enough to go, no, that's the slow version intro.
- 31:05Speaker 14: Okay, good. The slow one's my favorite.
- 31:06Speaker 13: So it's from the, it's the live version.
- 31:09Speaker 14: Fucking hey, it is.
- 31:11Speaker 13: So which way would you like to go?
- 31:13Speaker 14: I would like to go with that one, just because
- 31:14Speaker 14: You're Crazy is one of my favorite. I fucking love
- 31:16Speaker 14: that song. Especially the live version. I was listening to
- 31:19Speaker 14: it earlier today. I was watching a live version where
- 31:21Speaker 14: he fucked up the lyrics.
- 31:24Speaker 13: I bet that pissed him off.
- 31:25Speaker 14: He probably did. He just started mumbling and just like...
- 31:28Speaker 14: Then he started right back into it. I'm like, dude.
- 31:31Speaker 14: Take your sunglasses off. You could probably see the prompter.
- 31:34Speaker 13: He's fucking crazy.
- 31:35Speaker 14: He is.
- 31:38Speaker 22: Where are you going?
- 31:38Speaker 14: What are you going to do? Come on now.
- 31:41Speaker 13: How do they officially build that one? Is it just
- 31:44Speaker 13: the Lies version or alternate version?
- 31:46Speaker 21: How do they.
- 31:47Speaker 14: I don't know.
- 31:49Speaker 13: I think on the album it's just you're crazy. But
- 31:51Speaker 13: this is the.
- 31:53Speaker 13: One that ended up on Lies, but now it's in
- 31:56Speaker 13: 2007 and it ends up on the Gone Baby Gone soundtrack.
- 31:59Speaker 13: This is You're Crazy.
- 32:01Speaker 23: You're Crazy Looking for a heart Looking for a lover
- 32:20Speaker 23: In a world that's much too dark Because you don't
- 32:25Speaker 23: want my love No, no.
- 32:27Speaker 22: You want a satisfaction Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 32:33Speaker 24: Oh yeah, yeah You don't need my love You've got.
- 32:39Speaker 10: To find yourself another Another piece, another piece of the.
- 32:43Speaker 22: Action Yeah, yeah Oh, yeah.
- 32:47Speaker 17: Let's go.
- 32:51Speaker 16: Fine.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Say where you're going, what you're going to do.
- 32:58Speaker 10: I've been looking everywhere that I've been looking for you.
- 33:03Speaker 10: Because you don't want my love. you don't need my
- 33:18Speaker 10: love you got to find.
- 33:21Speaker 16: Yourself another piece.
- 33:23Speaker 10: Another piece of the action you're.
- 33:26Speaker 22: Crazy You know you're crazy. Oh my, you're fucking crazy.
- 33:36Speaker 25: Oh child, you know you're crazy.
- 33:40Speaker 22: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
- 33:44Speaker 6: Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah.
- 33:49Speaker 16: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:57Speaker 21: Outro Music You say, boy, where you coming from?
- 34:44Speaker 23: Would you hit that point of view? When I was younger,
- 34:49Speaker 23: I knew a motherfucker like you.
- 34:52Speaker 6: And she said, yeah, don't leave my love.
- 34:57Speaker 22: You want a satisfaction?
- 34:59Speaker 26: Be it.
- 35:02Speaker 6: And you don't need.
- 35:05Speaker 7: My love You've got to find yourself another Another.
- 35:11Speaker 13: Piece, another piece of the action You're crazy, hey, hey.
- 35:17Speaker 1: You know you're crazy.
- 35:19Speaker 25: Oh my You're fucking crazy, oh child You know you're crazy, hey.
- 35:29Speaker 15: Hey, hey, hey You know you're crazy, hey, hey, hey
- 35:36Speaker 15: You're fucking crazy, oh child You know you're crazy.
- 35:42Speaker 18: You're fucking crazy.
- 35:44Speaker 1: You know you are.
- 35:46Speaker 7: Bring it down.
- 35:54Speaker 1: You're fucking crazy. You're crazy.
- 35:58Speaker 9: You're crazy, man.
- 35:59Speaker 14: What are we going into next? One that I wrote down.
- 36:02Speaker 13: I figured you'd probably... I already had this on my
- 36:05Speaker 13: list because I figured, once again, if we're doing stuff
- 36:08Speaker 13: that you want to tie into... You probably want to
- 36:10Speaker 13: talk about Chris Cornell.
- 36:10Speaker 14: Because I fucking love Chris Cornell. He's one of my
- 36:12Speaker 14: absolute favorites. I mean, as far as like vocally, he
- 36:16Speaker 14: is like, he's fucking amazing. He's always been amazing. He's
- 36:20Speaker 14: always been one of my favorites. He probably could have
- 36:22Speaker 14: laid off the cigarettes a little bit.
- 36:24Speaker 13: Well, at one point I believe we saw him and
- 36:27Speaker 13: said he needed to eat a sandwich. Dude. That first
- 36:29Speaker 13: solo tour, dude, he was just skinny, like frighteningly skinny.
- 36:34Speaker 14: Yeah, I saw him on his first and last. solo
- 36:37Speaker 14: tours he was touring with Soundgarden when he passed away
- 36:40Speaker 14: which we did not get to see which breaks my
- 36:42Speaker 14: fucking heart but you know what I saw him twice
- 36:45Speaker 14: and he was fucking amazing I won tickets to that
- 36:47Speaker 14: one too the second time I saw him I won
- 36:48Speaker 14: tickets I was excited but uh yeah I haven't actually
- 36:53Speaker 14: watched this movie and I have it in there on
- 36:54Speaker 14: DVD the only reason I have it is because of
- 36:57Speaker 14: his cameo.
- 36:58Speaker 13: Well that's the thing I was like then I was
- 36:59Speaker 13: like did he even do anything and then going back
- 37:01Speaker 13: and looking other than in a million Soundgarden videos like
- 37:06Speaker 13: he's not in anything else. Like he doesn't really do
- 37:09Speaker 13: a lot of acting. He doesn't play anything else. He
- 37:12Speaker 13: is one minor cameo in singles.
- 37:16Speaker 2: He does.
- 37:17Speaker 14: Yes. And he is delicious.
- 37:18Speaker 13: Like he's just, and it's a stretch. His character is Chris.
- 37:25Speaker 13: If you look in the credits, he's credited as Chris.
- 37:28Speaker 14: I mean, that's all he needs to be.
- 37:31Speaker 13: It's, It's also in possibly the silliest scene in the
- 37:35Speaker 13: whole damn movie. Because I don't think that's a bad movie.
- 37:38Speaker 13: But the rest of it is a lot of dialogue
- 37:40Speaker 13: and talking and sort of serious. When you're not kind
- 37:43Speaker 13: of laughing at how silly Matt Dillon is. The rest
- 37:45Speaker 13: of it's pretty serious. You know, dialogue and relationship kind
- 37:48Speaker 13: of stuff. And then that scene is the silliest scene.
- 37:52Speaker 13: And there's Chris just kind of hanging out in the background.
- 37:55Speaker 13: Just sort of bobbing his head. Like, yeah, rock and roll.
- 37:58Speaker 13: All right.
- 37:59Speaker 3: Oh, smashed.
- 38:00Speaker 15: All right.
- 38:01Speaker 14: Good lord. I mean, there was just so much pure
- 38:03Speaker 14: talent in him. I can't even. Although, it kind of
- 38:06Speaker 14: makes me sad because when you actually listen to some
- 38:07Speaker 14: of the songs in there, like the live song of
- 38:09Speaker 14: him singing in there, I don't know if he's trying
- 38:11Speaker 14: to sound bad.
- 38:13Speaker 13: That's the thing. In the context of the movie, they
- 38:15Speaker 13: do a live version of birth ritual. It doesn't... Again,
- 38:19Speaker 13: when I was trying to go back and forth from
- 38:20Speaker 13: what's on the soundtrack versus what was in that scene
- 38:23Speaker 13: in the movie, I'm like, It's not a great version
- 38:25Speaker 13: of it. As much as I love his voice, it
- 38:28Speaker 13: doesn't sound that great within the movie itself.
- 38:30Speaker 14: Which is why you just stick with Seasons.
- 38:32Speaker 13: I think we're going to instead go with the soundtrack version,
- 38:35Speaker 13: which is actually just credited to Chris Cornell, and it
- 38:38Speaker 13: is Seasons.
- 38:38Speaker 27: Seasons guitar solo Summer nights and.
- 39:07Speaker 6: Long warm days Stirling as the old moon.
- 39:20Speaker 28: Summer nights and long warm days Stirling as the autumn
- 39:30Speaker 28: falls And the mirror shows another face.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Another place to.
- 39:40Speaker 6: Hide it all.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Another place to.
- 39:47Speaker 29: Hide it all And I'm lost behind Words I'll never
- 40:01Speaker 29: find And I'm left.
- 40:07Speaker 6: Behind Till seasons roll by.
- 40:23Speaker 12: Sending feathers for my hand Dreams have never been the
- 40:32Speaker 12: answer Dreams.
- 40:36Speaker 6: Have never made my bed Dreams have never.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Made my bed.
- 40:48Speaker 6: And I'm lost behind The woods I'll never find.
- 41:01Speaker 15: And I'm.
- 41:04Speaker 6: Left behind.
- 41:07Speaker 1: As the seasons roll on.
- 41:16Speaker 6: Well, I want to fly above the storm But you
- 41:33Speaker 6: can't grow feathers in the rain And the naked floor
- 41:41Speaker 6: is cold as hell The naked floor reminds me Oh,
- 41:52Speaker 6: the naked.
- 41:57Speaker 30: Floor reminds me That I'm lost behind The words I'll never.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Find And I'm left behind.
- 42:13Speaker 6: Behind me As the seasons roll on by Yeah.
- 42:22Speaker 18: If I should be.
- 42:24Speaker 6: Short on words All of these to say Could you
- 42:40Speaker 6: call in to my world should i be inside myself.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 43:48Speaker 29: Well, I'm lost.
- 43:51Speaker 6: Behind The words I'll never.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Find And I'm left.
- 44:04Speaker 6: Behind As the seasons roll.
- 44:10Speaker 1: On by.
- 44:12Speaker 14: Yeah Technically, you could say almost all Soundgarden was Chris Cornell.
- 44:22Speaker 13: The best stuff. They could play musically, but the writing-wise,
- 44:28Speaker 13: all the good stuff was kind of Chris.
- 44:30Speaker 14: He wrote most of the lyrics. He wrote most of
- 44:32Speaker 14: the music. I'm sorry. He did kind of carry the band.
- 44:36Speaker 14: I'm sure that would piss people off. They did work
- 44:38Speaker 14: good cohesively, but you look at the actual writing credits...
- 44:42Speaker 14: I mean, it was 98% him. I think each band
- 44:45Speaker 14: member might have had, like, one song on each album.
- 44:47Speaker 13: And they're kind of off. Like, I remember listening to those, like,
- 44:50Speaker 13: seeking them out and listening to them separately and going, yep,
- 44:53Speaker 13: he wasn't involved in this one. Like, you can kind of.
- 44:55Speaker 14: I mean, there's a couple that even he missed on.
- 44:57Speaker 14: I forget which one it was.
- 44:59Speaker 9: Spoonman.
- 45:00Speaker 16: Spoonman.
- 45:01Speaker 13: I think even he called himself out for Spoonman at
- 45:03Speaker 13: some point. It's like, I don't know what I was thinking. Like,
- 45:06Speaker 13: and it's funny because that one became a huge hit, but.
- 45:08Speaker 13: I think even he was just like, I don't know.
- 45:10Speaker 14: Do you know how many versions of Spoon Man I
- 45:11Speaker 14: have on my phone?
- 45:13Speaker 13: I'm going to guess a lot.
- 45:16Speaker 14: I have so many live versions and variations and different, like,
- 45:22Speaker 14: scroll through my 98 albums of Chris Cornell Soundgarden.
- 45:26Speaker 13: You might have a problem.
- 45:27Speaker 14: My problem is I can't get any more fucking Soundgarden
- 45:29Speaker 14: because he's fucking dead.
- 45:30Speaker 13: Because you're out of them. You have everything by him already.
- 45:35Speaker 14: Well, let's get to the Spoon Man section.
- 45:38Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 45:39Speaker 13: A section for Spoon Man.
- 45:41Speaker 2: See this?
- 45:43Speaker 14: Oh, my God.
- 45:44Speaker 13: She's scrolling. She's scrolling through, and they all say Spoon Man.
- 45:48Speaker 13: Some of them have parentheses.
- 45:50Speaker 14: Oh, I accidentally clicked on it. Hold on. No, I
- 45:52Speaker 14: don't want to play it. Stop.
- 45:53Speaker 13: No, we don't want to play it.
- 45:55Speaker 14: I have the extended alternate Steve Fisk remix.
- 45:59Speaker 13: I'm sure you've all been dying to hear that one.
- 46:01Speaker 14: Which has more solo of the spoons.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Of spoons.
- 46:06Speaker 14: Spoon solo. Although they have the Spoon Man, Good Times,
- 46:10Speaker 14: Bad Times kind of clashed in there together. That's pretty good.
- 46:15Speaker 14: I got ten versions of Spoon Man on my phone.
- 46:18Speaker 13: I'm not really shocked by that. I hate to tell you.
- 46:22Speaker 14: I'm serious. It's like that legit broke what heart I have.
- 46:26Speaker 14: I don't have much, but I broke it.
- 46:31Speaker 13: I mean, and again, it's been a while since I've
- 46:34Speaker 13: sat down and watched singles, and Truthfully, I got sick
- 46:39Speaker 13: to death of this band, mostly because I used to
- 46:42Speaker 13: work with a person who was obsessed with Pearl Jam.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Oh, God, on Pearl Jam.
- 46:49Speaker 13: And the thing is, I liked them when they started.
- 46:52Speaker 13: I had that first album that everybody in the world had.
- 46:55Speaker 13: I bought the next one. I actually think they were
- 46:59Speaker 13: and still really are a good band. I mostly just
- 47:02Speaker 13: kind of lost interest, as a lot of people did
- 47:05Speaker 13: after those first couple albums. They didn't have a ton
- 47:07Speaker 13: of radio hits, so it's like a lot of it
- 47:09Speaker 13: just went into, they became a weird cult band, and
- 47:12Speaker 13: they built a following that is still like, it's shocking
- 47:16Speaker 13: the level of dedication some of these fans still to
- 47:19Speaker 13: this day have for him. And then I worked with
- 47:21Speaker 13: this person who was one of those people, and had
- 47:24Speaker 13: been a fan club member, card-carrying fan club member since
- 47:28Speaker 13: the original, like since that first album came out. Never lapsed. Continued. Oh,
- 47:33Speaker 13: my God. And this person used to talk about them
- 47:36Speaker 13: daily to people who didn't really give a shit. So
- 47:42Speaker 13: it became really hard for me to get on board
- 47:44Speaker 13: with that band for a while.
- 47:46Speaker 14: That's why I would have picked the Alice in Chains
- 47:47Speaker 14: songs over.
- 47:49Speaker 13: But that's the thing. That's what I have to give
- 47:50Speaker 13: them credit for is that this was kind of right
- 47:53Speaker 13: at their peak. That first album had already hit. They
- 47:55Speaker 13: were already kind of pretty famous. And their characters in
- 48:01Speaker 13: the movie... They barely have any lines. They play some
- 48:06Speaker 13: bastardized version of themselves as just, like, musicians around Seattle.
- 48:11Speaker 13: They're in a made-up fictional band called Citizen Dick, and
- 48:15Speaker 13: Matt Dillon is the lead singer of it. So Eddie Vedder, like,
- 48:18Speaker 13: reduces himself to the random drummer, I think. I think
- 48:22Speaker 13: he's supposed to be the drummer in this band. It's
- 48:24Speaker 13: Stone Gossard, Jeff Homet, and Eddie Vedder are the other
- 48:27Speaker 13: members of Citizen Dick, and Matt Dillon is the... really
- 48:32Speaker 13: ridiculous front man and the fact that they were okay
- 48:36Speaker 13: with like just being shoved to the background by a
- 48:39Speaker 13: silly Matt Dillon is I don't know I always was
- 48:42Speaker 13: like that's kind of cool on their part as much
- 48:44Speaker 13: as I feel like I want to be sick of
- 48:47Speaker 13: specifically Eddie but like which song did they do That's
- 48:51Speaker 13: the other thing. On the soundtrack, in the band, unlike
- 48:55Speaker 13: the other ones, Alice in Chains has a legit cameo
- 48:58Speaker 13: of the band playing in the club.
- 48:59Speaker 14: Which is one of my favorite Alice in Chains songs.
- 49:02Speaker 13: We'll get there. Soundgarden actually has them playing that song
- 49:06Speaker 13: in there. But again, because they're a side version of
- 49:10Speaker 13: a band that doesn't really exist, they don't have anything
- 49:12Speaker 13: within the context of the movie. On the soundtrack, they
- 49:14Speaker 13: have two songs, both of which are pretty good, but
- 49:17Speaker 13: State of Love and Trust is actually kind of... i
- 49:20Speaker 13: like that one and i feel like it's also like
- 49:22Speaker 13: them kind of doing what they do best.
- 49:43Speaker 7: See, love and choice is a force that's down to creatures.
- 49:48Speaker 7: Sin still plays and preaches, but the heavens are.
- 49:54Speaker 6: Torn. And the signs are passing and grateful. Inside my head,
- 50:16Speaker 6: nothing I'll do this one.
- 50:17Speaker 7: Myself I hope the Lord be a countenance Wealthy hand,
- 50:24Speaker 7: my honor, make it pain, painfully quenched Promises I whisper
- 50:32Speaker 7: in the days of darkness Want.
- 50:35Speaker 18: To be enlightened, I'm the one to be told to
- 50:42Speaker 18: end And I feel certain, I directly add my head.
- 50:54Speaker 7: From both sides of my bed Nothing I'll do this
- 51:02Speaker 7: for Hear that somethin' Hear that.
- 51:46Speaker 24: Somethin' Hear that somethin' Back, back.
- 51:54Speaker 6: To it And I'll listen For the voice inside my
- 52:02Speaker 6: head Nothin' I'll do this one myself.
- 52:05Speaker 7: And I'll fare away Take a chance Ain't right in
- 52:09Speaker 7: my head Won't.
- 52:09Speaker 18: You help me Help me find.
- 52:16Speaker 16: Myself.
- 52:36Speaker 11: Stay the love and trust in us Stay the love
- 52:38Speaker 11: and trust in us Stay the love and trust in us.
- 52:52Speaker 6: Stay the love and.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Trust in us.
- 53:06Speaker 13: I don't know.
- 53:07Speaker 2: I wanted to throw that one in there just because
- 53:10Speaker 2: I've got to give him points for being kind of
- 53:11Speaker 2: cool to take that hit and.
- 53:14Speaker 1: Be a dorky, nameless, faceless bunch of side characters.
- 53:36Speaker 13: Hi, Matt Dillon.
- 53:38Speaker 1: All right.
- 53:38Speaker 13: And what is yours? Again, if we're going to go
- 53:40Speaker 13: ahead and hat trick this thing.
- 53:42Speaker 14: As we continue our love letter to the.
- 53:44Speaker 13: Movie you haven't watched.
- 53:47Speaker 14: It has good songs, dude.
- 53:49Speaker 13: I mean, it is kind of built around a musical
- 53:51Speaker 13: scene that was at its peak at that point. So
- 53:55Speaker 13: they did put together some impressive songs.
- 53:57Speaker 14: Alice in Chains.
- 53:59Speaker 17: All right.
- 53:59Speaker 14: Which I still think are vastly underrated. I mean, as
- 54:03Speaker 14: big as Pearl Jam got, I don't think I think
- 54:06Speaker 14: Alice in Chains was far superior, and they never got.
- 54:09Speaker 13: They had a handful of radio hits, but I don't
- 54:11Speaker 13: think they ever got the attention like Pearl Jam or Nirvana.
- 54:14Speaker 9: I was always way more an Alice in Chains fan
- 54:17Speaker 9: than Pearl Jam. I didn't like Pearl Jam at all,
- 54:19Speaker 9: because that's what all the.
- 54:22Speaker 13: Again, I think it was mostly... That's what all the
- 54:23Speaker 13: other kids liked. Yeah, it was mostly just the response
- 54:25Speaker 13: to it. That's where I ended up, too. Musically, I
- 54:28Speaker 13: think they're fine, but.
- 54:29Speaker 14: It was just all Eddie Vedder did was mumble, and
- 54:31Speaker 14: I could mumble just as well as he can.
- 54:33Speaker 9: Alice in Chains was a lot heavier.
- 54:35Speaker 14: He had more, his vocal skills were just.
- 54:37Speaker 9: His vocal skills were good. The songs were a little
- 54:39Speaker 9: bit darker.
- 54:40Speaker 14: I mean, and Wood is a good example of that
- 54:42Speaker 14: because Wood is a very dark feeling song and just
- 54:45Speaker 14: listening to it, you know, on its own without, in
- 54:47Speaker 14: the context of the movie, that's always been my, one
- 54:49Speaker 14: of my favorite Alice in Chains songs in general. And
- 54:51Speaker 14: it's just, it's a good song.
- 55:27Speaker 6: Broken by my master teach me a child love thereafter
- 55:30Speaker 6: into the flood again sing him.
- 55:37Speaker 1: All through the world now.
- 55:55Speaker 6: You'd rather see it once more.
- 56:22Speaker 31: Drifting body, it's all.
- 56:28Speaker 6: A deception. Flying, I can't wind the notion. I made
- 56:51Speaker 6: a big mistake Tried to see it walk my way
- 57:01Speaker 6: guitar solo Have I gone too far to get home?
- 57:35Speaker 6: Have I gone too far to get home?
- 58:18Speaker 14: I left you here alone And I wouldn't hurt you
- 58:19Speaker 14: That's been on my list ever since you started. It's
- 58:21Speaker 14: been on my list for a while of things that
- 58:23Speaker 14: I wanted to shoehorn into the Movie Meltdown soundtrack, podcast shows, whatever,
- 58:28Speaker 14: the Attack of the Killer soundtrack. I'm like, I have
- 58:30Speaker 14: a list. That one's on there, so now I can
- 58:32Speaker 14: cross that one off. Again, that's another one. He was
- 58:35Speaker 14: incredibly talented, but he's also very.
- 58:38Speaker 14: I don't know why they bothered to try to replace
- 58:39Speaker 14: him in Alice in Chains because Lane Staley, I guess
- 58:42Speaker 14: they did like kind of dual vocals because there was
- 58:47Speaker 14: a soundtrack that I, very recently, was it the John
- 58:49Speaker 14: Wick soundtrack? Because it was not the Resident Evil one
- 58:51Speaker 14: that I looked forever trying to find. It was on
- 58:54Speaker 14: the John Wick soundtrack and I was listening to it
- 58:55Speaker 14: and I'm like, is this, this is Alice in Chains?
- 58:59Speaker 14: Did they dig up some old Alice in Chains that
- 59:01Speaker 14: I've never heard before? Nope, brand new Layne Staley. It
- 59:04Speaker 14: sounded exactly like....
- 59:08Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 59:08Speaker 9: When we went and saw it in theater, we both
- 59:10Speaker 9: looked at each other and we were like, what?
- 59:14Speaker 14: We were trying to figure out, is it somebody else?
- 59:15Speaker 9: I'm like, nope.
- 59:16Speaker 14: It's just the... Not Layne Staley, because that's the... He's
- 59:19Speaker 14: the one that died.
- 59:19Speaker 13: He's the one that died, yeah.
- 59:20Speaker 14: Who's the other guy? I just got him confused for
- 59:22Speaker 14: a second. Who's the other guy? Not Layne Staley, the... Something...
- 59:27Speaker 14: It's in there.
- 59:29Speaker 9: If you can come up with a first name.
- 59:32Speaker 14: Jerry Cantrell.
- 59:33Speaker 9: Jerry Cantrell, yeah.
- 59:34Speaker 14: Is it Cantrell or Cantell? Cantrell?
- 59:36Speaker 9: Cantrell.
- 59:36Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 59:38Speaker 14: I'll talk about how much he sounds exactly... It sounds
- 59:40Speaker 14: like old Allison James.
- 59:41Speaker 13: Well, see, that's what I always heard. Actually, right... It
- 59:44Speaker 13: might have been right before... I think it was maybe
- 59:46Speaker 13: right after. I remember somebody telling me they were like.
- 59:50Speaker 13: Lane got all the attention. Lane was the one they
- 59:51Speaker 13: put in the videos. But, like, it was a lot of, like...
- 59:55Speaker 13: I don't know if all the writing went to Jerry or, like, just...
- 59:59Speaker 13: But I'd even heard a lot of the vocals on
- 1:00:01Speaker 13: the other track. Like the one or two big singles
- 1:00:03Speaker 13: was a lot of Lane. And then a lot of
- 1:00:05Speaker 13: the other stuff, he was doing all the singing anyway.
- 1:00:07Speaker 14: When you watch them on like the unplugged, I think.
- 1:00:11Speaker 14: And if you watch them, you're like, all right, they're
- 1:00:12Speaker 14: singing simultaneously. So a lot of the vocals are like
- 1:00:16Speaker 14: both of it's the combination of their voice. So hearing
- 1:00:19Speaker 14: Jerry Cantrell, it sounds just like a slightly tweaked version
- 1:00:22Speaker 14: of Alice in Chains because that's what it is. But Wood,
- 1:00:26Speaker 14: back to that song. It's fucking amazing. And he was just, yeah.
- 1:00:33Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:00:40Speaker 13: So I'm proud to announce that Movie Meltdown is now
- 1:00:42Speaker 13: working with Heine Brothers Coffee. Heine Brothers was founded in 1994,

- 1:00:52Speaker 13: first regular coffee shops that I started to hang around
- 1:00:55Speaker 13: was that first, longest avenue location that Heine Brothers opened.
- 1:00:59Speaker 13: It's been a long road and a lot of cups
- 1:01:01Speaker 13: of coffee, but I'm glad to be working with them

- 1:01:59Speaker 5: This is John Spencer, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: So, the final shirt deal, is that a nod to
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: the crispy Seattle weather, or are you just trying to
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: stay warm in front of the refrigerator?
- 1:02:23Speaker 13: Alright, we've hit the Seattle scene pretty hard, so let's
- 1:02:27Speaker 13: go a different direction. This is another one of those
- 1:02:30Speaker 13: I thought of immediately, and then I went, wait, I
- 1:02:34Speaker 13: think I know what they're playing, and I think it's
- 1:02:36Speaker 13: the only song they get to play. Again, great cameo,
- 1:02:40Speaker 13: you're in the middle of Back to School, you're watching
- 1:02:43Speaker 13: Rodney Dangerfield be Rodney Dangerfield, which is always entertaining anyway.
- 1:02:47Speaker 13: And he throws like a house party for his like
- 1:02:50Speaker 13: kids in the college. And the band that happens to
- 1:02:54Speaker 13: be there playing the party is Oingo Boingo. Original era
- 1:02:58Speaker 13: Oingo Boingo at the time just was a band. And
- 1:03:01Speaker 13: they were, again, kind of like turning up on a
- 1:03:04Speaker 13: lot of soundtracks at that point. And but again, I'm like,
- 1:03:07Speaker 13: don't they play Dead Man's Party? I'm like, we've all heard.
- 1:03:10Speaker 13: I was like, there's so many other awesome Oingo Boingo songs.
- 1:03:13Speaker 13: So that was another one of these that I'm like,
- 1:03:16Speaker 13: we're going to fake right and go left.
- 1:03:19Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 1:03:19Speaker 13: Because I'm just like, I just don't want to play
- 1:03:21Speaker 13: the ones we've all heard a million times. You can
- 1:03:23Speaker 13: listen to those whenever. So I was like, again, let's
- 1:03:26Speaker 13: try to stick around that same time, that exact same year.
- 1:03:30Speaker 13: They're also on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 soundtrack.
- 1:03:34Speaker 14: It's a good movie.
- 1:03:36Speaker 13: It is a good movie. Dennis Hopper's freaking amazing.
- 1:03:39Speaker 14: Bill Moseley.
- 1:03:41Speaker 13: Well, we know he is. He gives us cookies. But
- 1:03:43Speaker 13: Dennis Hopper.
- 1:03:44Speaker 14: He never gave me any cookies.
- 1:03:45Speaker 13: Sadly, don't get to have him on the show, I guess.
- 1:03:48Speaker 13: Minus the Ouija board. But, yeah. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
- 1:03:52Speaker 13: soundtrack has No One Lives Forever from Oingo Boingo.
- 1:04:33Speaker 6: Don't worry too much.
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: You make yourself sad. You can't change fate.
- 1:04:38Speaker 13: But don't feel so bad.
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: Convey what you can.
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: It's just like the weather.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: It's a quick completed brother.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: No one lives forever.
- 1:04:48Speaker 6: Let's have a party. There's a full moon in the sky.
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: It's the hour of the wolf and I go by
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: the car. I'm so happy dancing while the river is wet.
- 1:05:04Speaker 11: Cuts, cuts, cuts, but he can't get me.
- 1:05:07Speaker 13: I'm as clever as can be.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: And I'm very quick, but.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Don't forget me. We've only got so many tricks. No
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: one lives forever.
- 1:05:31Speaker 13: It's the hour of the wolf and I.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Don't want to die.
- 1:05:58Speaker 8: I'm so happy, dancing while the drimmer eats the cuts, cuts.
- 1:06:02Speaker 6: Cuts, but he can't get me.
- 1:06:04Speaker 24: I'm as clever as you can be, and I'm very quick,
- 1:06:08Speaker 24: but don't forget, we've.
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: Only got so many tricks, now or never.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: I worry too much.
- 1:07:20Speaker 13: You make yourself sad. You can't change fate.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: But don't feel so bad.
- 1:07:28Speaker 14: Enjoy it while you can.
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: It's just like the weather. So quit complaining, brother.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: No one lives forever. This summer party, there's a fool
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: in the sky. You're a fool, and I don't want
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: to die.
- 1:07:40Speaker 18: No one beats us as they move.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: They're no longer just the same. Who cares? There's no
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: place to hide.
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: No way to run. No time to cry. So sell.
- 1:08:07Speaker 13: They're in a couple that year, actually. They were just,
- 1:08:10Speaker 13: he was, once again, before he even started the other
- 1:08:12Speaker 13: part of his life, he had no problem turning up
- 1:08:14Speaker 13: on soundtracks.
- 1:08:15Speaker 14: Are we going to work on some David Bowie?
- 1:08:18Speaker 13: We've done a whole like episode, like a long episode
- 1:08:22Speaker 13: of David Bowie. So if we can find one that's
- 1:08:23Speaker 13: not already on there, let's dance.
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: That's the thing.
- 1:08:27Speaker 13: That's the only one that's in Zoolander. Cause I just
- 1:08:30Speaker 13: looked it up. I was like, do they play anything else?
- 1:08:33Speaker 13: Cause again, who hasn't heard let's dance? I was hoping
- 1:08:35Speaker 13: that's what I did on that. That one that we
- 1:08:37Speaker 13: did on Bowie right after he died. I tried to
- 1:08:39Speaker 13: pick either stuff that was specifically for soundtracks that like
- 1:08:43Speaker 13: you maybe hadn't heard on the radio and some other
- 1:08:46Speaker 13: weirder stuff.
- 1:08:47Speaker 14: Okay, we'll just skip David Bowie then. Or we could
- 1:08:53Speaker 14: do Marilyn Manson's version of Golden Years, which is a
- 1:08:56Speaker 14: very far, far reach. Although Marilyn Manson did make a cameo.
- 1:09:00Speaker 14: in a movie.
- 1:09:01Speaker 13: He's made several cameos. Again, we've played a song in
- 1:09:05Speaker 13: reference to him from the other cameo, the one I
- 1:09:09Speaker 13: was thinking of. I remember, I think you were there
- 1:09:12Speaker 13: as I was watching Jawbreaker. And I went, who the
- 1:09:16Speaker 13: hell is that? Oh my God. The horrible porn stash,
- 1:09:20Speaker 13: the creepy... Again, I don't think he has any lines.
- 1:09:25Speaker 13: I think he just shows up to be the creepy
- 1:09:27Speaker 13: dude that she seduces to work into her plan to
- 1:09:31Speaker 13: make it seem like it's a very creepy, elaborate plan
- 1:09:35Speaker 13: that involves a cameo by Marilyn Manson.
- 1:10:08Speaker 7: Don't let me hear you say life's taking you nowhere.
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: Angel, come get me, baby.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Look at the sky, life's begun.
- 1:10:20Speaker 29: The nights are warm and the days are young.
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: Come, get up my baby.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: There's my baby lost and tall.
- 1:10:29Speaker 11: Once I'm begging you, save her little soul.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Oh, here's your Lord. Come get up my baby.
- 1:10:43Speaker 21: Last night they loved you Opening doors and pulling some strings.
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: Angel Come get up my baby You didn't walk luck
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: till you looked in town Never let that one soul act.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: Fine Come get up my.
- 1:11:01Speaker 10: Baby I'll stick with you baby for a thousand years Nothing's.
- 1:11:07Speaker 6: Gonna touch you It's gonna be.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Bye.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Bye.
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: All the way.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: There's my baby, lost and tall. Once I'm begging you,
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: save us, little soul.
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: Come get up, my baby.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Run for the shadows. Run for the shadows.
- 1:12:07Speaker 7: Run for the shadows in these golden years.
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: Come get up, my baby.
- 1:12:25Speaker 7: I'll stick with you.
- 1:12:29Speaker 11: Baby, for a thousand years.
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: Nothing's gonna touch you in these golden years.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Golden years. Golden years.
- 1:12:44Speaker 6: Golden years. Golden years.
- 1:13:26Speaker 13: So where was Golden Years?
- 1:13:27Speaker 14: That would be on the Dead Man on Campus soundtrack.
- 1:13:29Speaker 13: Yikes.
- 1:13:30Speaker 14: Oh yeah, I fucking love that movie.
- 1:13:32Speaker 13: You just like... I do.
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: Zach.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: I do.
- 1:13:36Speaker 14: I'm not even gonna lie, Mark Paul Gosselaar, I'm all
- 1:13:39Speaker 14: the way.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: I got one more guy.
- 1:13:40Speaker 9: We get him to open up a vein.
- 1:13:43Speaker 6: And we're golden.
- 1:13:44Speaker 13: I did think of another one. Specifically that like the
- 1:13:48Speaker 13: whole point of the movie more or less is just
- 1:13:51Speaker 13: to set up situations where we can bring in actual
- 1:13:54Speaker 13: huge legends. And just have them play a song. And
- 1:13:58Speaker 13: I think you're pretty fond of this movie anyway. The
- 1:14:01Speaker 13: Blues Brothers. I figured that was too obvious.
- 1:14:03Speaker 14: I figured I wouldn't go with that one.
- 1:14:04Speaker 13: Yeah, but I mean.
- 1:14:06Speaker 14: There's so many fucking cameos in that movie.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:14:08Speaker 14: Is it Shake a Tail Feather? Because I love.
- 1:14:09Speaker 13: Well, that's kind of what I was like. When you
- 1:14:11Speaker 13: can get Ray Charles to show up and do a
- 1:14:14Speaker 13: cameo in your movie, you're kind of cool.
- 1:14:23Speaker 7: Well, I heard about the fella you've been dancing with
- 1:14:27Speaker 7: All over the neighborhood So why didn't you ask me, baby?
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: Or didn't you think I could?
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: Well, I know that the boogaloo is out of sight.
- 1:14:38Speaker 24: But the shingles are playing tonight But if that was
- 1:14:42Speaker 24: you and me, I.
- 1:14:43Speaker 13: Thought, baby I would have shown you how to do.
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: It right Do it right Ah.
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: Do it right.
- 1:15:01Speaker 6: Twist it, shake it, shake it.
- 1:15:03Speaker 9: Shake it, shake it, baby.
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: Have it all loop-de-loop.
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Shake it out, baby.
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: Have it all loop-de-lock.
- 1:15:17Speaker 24: Bend over, let me see you shake your tail feather.
- 1:15:20Speaker 24: Bend over, let me see you shake your tail feather.
- 1:15:22Speaker 24: Come on, let me see you shake.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Your tail feather. Come on, let me see you shake
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: your tail feather.
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: Twistin', shakin', shakin', shakin', shakin' baby Have your loop-de-loop Shakin' up,
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: baby Have your loop-de-loop And nobody ever sees you shake
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: your tail feather.
- 1:15:50Speaker 19: And nobody ever sees you shake your.
- 1:15:51Speaker 24: Tail feather Come on, let me see you shake your
- 1:15:54Speaker 24: tail feather Come on, let me see you shake.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: Your tail feather Come on, baby. Come on.
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: Yeah, come on, baby. All right. Do the twit. Do
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: the fly. Oh, do the swim. And do the bird. Oh,
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: do the duck. Oh, do the monkey. Hey, hey, watch
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: who's there. Not to mention Cab Calloway. You really can't
- 1:16:38Speaker 6: go wrong with that movie.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: Cab Calloway is bad.
- 1:17:05Speaker 14: And I'm not even going to lie, Dan Aykroyd was
- 1:17:06Speaker 14: hot in Blues Brothers.
- 1:17:08Speaker 13: That's all you.
- 1:17:09Speaker 14: It is. I don't even care. I'll take it all.
- 1:17:11Speaker 14: Take it all.
- 1:17:12Speaker 13: I know that's a thing that you have going. I
- 1:17:15Speaker 13: don't fully understand it, but I support your ability and
- 1:17:19Speaker 13: freedom to think that.
- 1:17:20Speaker 14: Mm-hmm. I mean, seriously, he was pretty hot. Back in
- 1:17:24Speaker 14: the day, he didn't age well. He is no longer hot.
- 1:17:28Speaker 13: Speaking of dudes that kind of got a bloaty period
- 1:17:31Speaker 13: of their life.
- 1:17:31Speaker 14: Yeah, it has stayed that way.
- 1:17:33Speaker 13: It's a large period of his life.
- 1:17:35Speaker 14: It's the whole period of his life after that movie.
- 1:17:37Speaker 7: Woke up this morning Feeling low Where my loved one
- 1:17:43Speaker 7: used to live She ain't there no more.
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: Poor me.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Why such bad luck fall on me?
- 1:17:56Speaker 6: Poor me.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: I'm living in misery Hey, Jacqueline.
- 1:18:06Speaker 13: Hi. Guess what?
- 1:18:08Speaker 18: What?
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: We're broke.
- 1:18:10Speaker 21: Yeah, we definitely, I'm pulling up, turning my pockets out
- 1:18:13Speaker 21: right now.

- 1:20:18Speaker 29: I'm Andy.
- 1:20:19Speaker 13: I'm Kristen. We're Repeat Repeat, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:20:23Speaker 13: Hell yeah.
- 1:20:24Speaker 21: You got something that I wanted An addiction just so.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: Hard to quit.
- 1:20:35Speaker 13: So I have a weird one, and it's not even
- 1:20:38Speaker 13: a direct pull musically, but just for the cameo's sake,
- 1:20:44Speaker 13: it's always fascinated me. So far, not enough to actually
- 1:20:47Speaker 13: get through the entirety of the movie, but I'm guessing
- 1:20:54Speaker 13: you haven't.
- 1:20:55Speaker 14: Watched The Postman. Oh, God, no. Is this the one
- 1:20:59Speaker 14: with Tom Petty? The Tom Petty cameo?
- 1:21:01Speaker 13: Tom Petty shows up.
- 1:21:02Speaker 14: I was searching so hard to try to find a
- 1:21:04Speaker 14: Tom Petty one, and all I came up with was
- 1:21:05Speaker 14: the something about heaven.
- 1:21:08Speaker 13: Made in Heaven, which I've actually seen. And again, I
- 1:21:11Speaker 13: think he plays a musician in that one. But the
- 1:21:14Speaker 13: thing that fascinates me about the postman is he kind
- 1:21:18Speaker 13: of plays himself in this future dystopia, world falling apart,
- 1:21:25Speaker 13: He still kind of plays Tom Petty. They never out
- 1:21:27Speaker 13: and out say it, but he shows up. Kevin Costner
- 1:21:32Speaker 13: shows up in whatever end of the world post-apocalyptic nonsense
- 1:21:37Speaker 13: is going on, and Tom Petty's standing there looking like
- 1:21:40Speaker 13: Tom Petty.
- 1:21:41Speaker 14: Did he have any other options?
- 1:21:42Speaker 13: And he goes, I know you. You're famous. He's like, well,
- 1:21:47Speaker 13: I once was or used to be. He just kind
- 1:21:50Speaker 13: of blows it off, and he's like, okay, well. Now
- 1:21:54Speaker 13: I'm mayor of Bridge City, so yippee. I'm just like,
- 1:21:58Speaker 13: what a weird thing to put in because it's sort
- 1:22:01Speaker 13: of real world as if the world fell apart around
- 1:22:05Speaker 13: Tom Petty and he was still super cool Tom Petty.
- 1:22:09Speaker 14: Oh, I also got free tickets to a Tom Petty
- 1:22:11Speaker 14: tribute show.
- 1:22:16Speaker 13: Not quite the same as actual Tom Petty, but I mean.
- 1:22:19Speaker 13: Could be quite entertaining.
- 1:22:20Speaker 14: I haven't decided if I want to brave the outside
- 1:22:23Speaker 14: for that one yet.
- 1:22:23Speaker 13: You have to go around people. It's a fight. But yeah,
- 1:22:28Speaker 13: so that's the thing. You go to the soundtrack for
- 1:22:31Speaker 13: The Postman, because I was like, maybe he recorded a weird, like, slow, sad,
- 1:22:37Speaker 13: the world is dying song to go into. Nope, not
- 1:22:40Speaker 13: on there at all. There's some other, I'm glad I
- 1:22:44Speaker 13: looked at it, because it's already going on a future episode.
- 1:22:46Speaker 13: There's some things on there. I was like, oh, that happened? Oh, no,
- 1:22:50Speaker 13: we're gonna have to come back to that later. Put
- 1:22:51Speaker 13: a pin in that. But, no Tom Petty. Once again,
- 1:22:55Speaker 13: I wanted to go around that area, and actually, I
- 1:22:57Speaker 13: bought the soundtrack for this movie specifically to work in
- 1:23:01Speaker 13: at some point anyway. I'll probably return to it, because
- 1:23:03Speaker 13: it's a whole lot of Tom Petty. In fact, it's
- 1:23:05Speaker 13: all Tom Petty. The year before The Postman comes out,
- 1:23:09Speaker 13: he did an entire soundtrack. He basically, like, the score,
- 1:23:13Speaker 13: only he just built songs he took 10 or 12
- 1:23:16Speaker 13: songs and just created an entire soundtrack for she's the
- 1:23:19Speaker 13: one which is i think still ed burns best movie
- 1:23:23Speaker 13: he kind of came on the scene and everybody gave
- 1:23:26Speaker 13: him a whole lot of attention for brothers mcmullen which
- 1:23:29Speaker 13: i saw at the time and it was all right
- 1:23:32Speaker 13: but i feel like the next year he knocked out
- 1:23:35Speaker 13: she's the one it's kind of that same thing of
- 1:23:36Speaker 13: everybody that in that era kept sort of getting a
- 1:23:40Speaker 13: budget and then remaking their own movie like desperado was
- 1:23:43Speaker 13: More or less him turning around and remaking his own
- 1:23:45Speaker 13: movie and evil dead. Like this is kind of the,
- 1:23:48Speaker 13: the Edward Burns version of that. Like it's almost the
- 1:23:51Speaker 13: same story, more or less. It's the same relationship between
- 1:23:56Speaker 13: the brothers and they work in like a father, but
- 1:23:59Speaker 13: it actually is way more well-rounded. Those characters are more
- 1:24:02Speaker 13: well-rounded and he actually has female characters now. So like,
- 1:24:05Speaker 13: I don't know. I think she's the one is a
- 1:24:08Speaker 13: great and super underrated movie. With an impressive cast, because
- 1:24:11Speaker 13: that was after he got all the attention, so he
- 1:24:13Speaker 13: could actually afford recognizable people all of a sudden. So
- 1:24:17Speaker 13: I think that's a really good movie, and I think
- 1:24:19Speaker 13: it's cool that he brought on Tom Petty to do
- 1:24:22Speaker 13: an entire soundtrack just for that.
- 1:24:24Speaker 14: You just truly can't go wrong with Tom Petty.
- 1:24:27Speaker 13: I thought we'd bust out some Tom Petty right now.
- 1:24:30Speaker 13: So this is Hope You Never by Tom Petty and
- 1:24:32Speaker 13: the Heartbreakers.
- 1:24:33Speaker 26: I hope you never fall in love Hope you never
- 1:24:40Speaker 26: get your heart broken.
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: I hope you never.
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: Fall in love.
- 1:24:48Speaker 26: With somebody like you. I hope you never give a damn.
- 1:25:01Speaker 26: Hope you never lose your perspective. I hope you never
- 1:25:08Speaker 26: fall in love with somebody like you And I wish
- 1:25:18Speaker 26: you well I wish you everything and more Forgive my
- 1:25:30Speaker 26: ignorance I was starting.
- 1:25:33Speaker 6: To Thank you.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: I hope you never need no one.
- 1:26:11Speaker 31: Hope you treasure your independence.
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: I hope you never.
- 1:26:19Speaker 26: Fall in love with somebody like you.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: And I wish you well.
- 1:26:33Speaker 31: I wish you everything and more.
- 1:26:38Speaker 26: Forgive my ignorance.
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: I was starting to ramble on and on. Starting to
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: ramble on and on.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: I hope you.
- 1:26:55Speaker 26: Never kill the dam. Hope you never get killed.
- 1:27:03Speaker 31: I hope you never fall in love with somebody like you.
- 1:27:16Speaker 31: I hope you never fall in love with somebody like you.
- 1:27:24Speaker 14: I guess we didn't wrangle in any Tom Waits in
- 1:27:30Speaker 14: any of that. He's done so many fucking movies and
- 1:27:32Speaker 14: so many songs.
- 1:27:39Speaker 17: All right.
- 1:27:40Speaker 13: So if we want to work in.
- 1:27:42Speaker 9: Mr.
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: Tom Waits.
- 1:27:44Speaker 14: Which I'm always looking forward to.
- 1:27:46Speaker 13: That's kind of what I was like. We can always
- 1:27:47Speaker 13: kind of. Like there's any excuse to work in more
- 1:27:50Speaker 13: Tom Waits. But I mean, we can go back a ways.
- 1:27:53Speaker 13: If you go back to 1978, he's in Paradise Alley
- 1:27:58Speaker 13: as you like mumbles. Previously mentioned, some other artist. But
- 1:28:03Speaker 13: in this movie, he plays Mumbles. And you get him
- 1:28:06Speaker 13: playing piano and hanging out with Sylvester Stallone. Which, maybe
- 1:28:10Speaker 13: this week? I don't know. Not a good time to
- 1:28:13Speaker 13: hang out with Sylvester Stallone.
- 1:28:15Speaker 14: Not a good time to hang out with 90% of Hollywood.
- 1:28:17Speaker 13: But most of Hollywood falls into that category. So, I
- 1:28:20Speaker 13: can only hope those stories aren't true. And sadly, most
- 1:28:24Speaker 13: of them are in the world.
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: So, I don't know.
- 1:28:26Speaker 13: Quit being horrible to.
- 1:28:27Speaker 9: Each other, people.
- 1:28:28Speaker 13: Mostly creepy old dudes in Hollywood. But regardless, Tom Waits
- 1:28:34Speaker 13: is awesome. So, yes, in the movie, he does the
- 1:28:38Speaker 13: somewhat titular... Meet Me in, in quotation marks, Paradise Alley.
- 1:28:43Speaker 8: When the hawks in the kitchen and the sirens in
- 1:28:52Speaker 8: bloom and the losers have been swept.
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: From the gin.
- 1:28:59Speaker 17: Mills well hello sucker merry Christmas and a happy new
- 1:29:10Speaker 17: year 34th street good tidings to you.
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: And will you meet me.
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: We'll leave town in a bottle of whiskey.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: Come on, you old scarecrow, hand me a wheel. Not
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: a lamppost, just put a saddle on a wishbone.
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: And you're halfway there.
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: You know that heroes wear wings. Where their dreams used
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: to be.
- 1:30:08Speaker 4: Go on and ask the hooligans as they sweep down
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: the midway.
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: And I'm going waltzing.
- 1:30:20Speaker 19: Tonight with the Statue of Liberty Come on you lazy
- 1:30:30Speaker 19: boys Let's get out of this place.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: Will you meet me In.
- 1:30:39Speaker 32: Paradise I'll eat tonight We'll.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: Leave town In a bottle of whiskey.
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: Come on you old scarecrow Hand me your wheel Not
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: a lamppost Just put a.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Saddle on a wishbone.
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: And you're halfway there.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: Well it's a counterfeit moon And I'm seeing.
- 1:31:19Speaker 16: Right through it We're so torn to spend it.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: All in one place.
- 1:31:31Speaker 6: And we'll ride to the.
- 1:31:34Speaker 16: Top of the morning and the night You can ride
- 1:31:42Speaker 16: on my shoulders.
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: And I'll show you the way If you need me In.
- 1:31:53Speaker 32: Paradise I'll lead the night Weaved out in a bottle
- 1:32:03Speaker 32: of whiskey So come on you old scarecrow Hand me
- 1:32:14Speaker 32: a wheel Not a lamppost, just put a saddle on
- 1:32:20Speaker 32: a wishbone, and.
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: You're halfway there. Look, I'm sorry I'm late, Jim.
- 1:32:52Speaker 33: Boy, oof, four-car pileup. Oof, I delivered a baby this
- 1:32:57Speaker 33: morning about 9 o'clock. I was saving lives. I was
- 1:33:00Speaker 33: out there on the highway. It was, you know, there's
- 1:33:03Speaker 33: nothing worse than roadside surgery. You know, you don't have
- 1:33:05Speaker 33: your own tools, and it's just, it's murder. I performed
- 1:33:10Speaker 33: a tracheotomy with a ballpoint.
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: Pen, and I'm, oof, I've been busy. Wait a minute.
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: You're a doctor?
- 1:33:22Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm a doctor. I mean, music and medicine, really.
- 1:33:28Speaker 33: It's really been my thing is combining the two and
- 1:33:31Speaker 33: living in that place where they overlap.
- 1:33:33Speaker 20: A lot of people say it shows up in the music.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:33:37Speaker 14: That'll love me some Tom Waits.
- 1:33:39Speaker 13: He's pretty fucking awesome.
- 1:33:39Speaker 14: He's also one that we've seen live, and I saw
- 1:33:41Speaker 14: him a lot closer than you all did.
- 1:33:42Speaker 16: I saw him.
- 1:33:43Speaker 13: I was in the room with him.
- 1:33:44Speaker 14: We were cool.
- 1:33:45Speaker 13: I was way closer.
- 1:33:45Speaker 15: We hung out.
- 1:33:46Speaker 14: You did not.
- 1:33:48Speaker 13: In my head, we did. It is one of those
- 1:33:50Speaker 13: things that I'm like, there's very few people that I
- 1:33:53Speaker 13: can be like, I am really glad I saw them live.
- 1:33:55Speaker 13: He doesn't do much touring. That was like the one
- 1:33:58Speaker 13: that he's done that I know of in this last...
- 1:34:00Speaker 13: 25 years I always check.
- 1:34:03Speaker 14: Like every couple months I'm like alright is he going
- 1:34:04Speaker 14: on tour anytime soon cause I'm waiting I'll go see
- 1:34:06Speaker 14: him again I'll go see him again.
- 1:34:07Speaker 13: But yeah that he did that one weird small tour
- 1:34:12Speaker 13: of weird off cities and small venues and somehow.
- 1:34:15Speaker 14: He lucked into it yeah the palace is a tiny
- 1:34:17Speaker 14: venue yeah for like for Tom Waits.
- 1:34:19Speaker 13: For Tom Waits to see it in a relatively.
- 1:34:22Speaker 14: Small room and it sold out didn't it yeah like
- 1:34:24Speaker 14: relatively soon.
- 1:34:26Speaker 13: And he was amazing as expected I.
- 1:34:28Speaker 14: Was in row F I was like right there.
- 1:34:31Speaker 13: I was backstage hanging out with his son. All right,
- 1:34:36Speaker 13: I was in the room. Either way, he's awesome.
- 1:34:40Speaker 14: But I was the one sitting by myself because I
- 1:34:41Speaker 14: did buy a single ticket, which is how I got
- 1:34:43Speaker 14: so close.
- 1:34:46Speaker 31: Oh.
- 1:34:46Speaker 14: I had somebody trying to like, are you sure you
- 1:34:48Speaker 14: don't want to trade me? You can sit with my
- 1:34:49Speaker 14: boyfriend instead. I'm like, no, fuck that.
- 1:34:51Speaker 13: I don't like that weirdo.
- 1:34:53Speaker 14: They're not together anyways, but still, not anymore. I'm like,
- 1:34:57Speaker 14: I'm not sitting in the fucking balcony. I'm like, no,
- 1:35:00Speaker 14: you can keep your balcony. Fuck that mess. I'll sit
- 1:35:02Speaker 14: down here by these fucking random ass strangers.
- 1:35:06Speaker 13: One of which was Tom Waits.
- 1:35:08Speaker 14: Good times. Fucking amazing.
- 1:35:11Speaker 13: He's always amazing. This is old school hanging out at
- 1:35:13Speaker 13: the piano, much like in the movie. Hanging out at
- 1:35:15Speaker 13: the piano, being cool, Tom Waits.
- 1:35:18Speaker 9: Do I get to have a band in a movie?
- 1:35:20Speaker 14: I don't know. Do you have one? Have you been
- 1:35:22Speaker 14: researching it this whole time?
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: No, I haven't.
- 1:35:24Speaker 9: Just one occurred to me.
- 1:35:25Speaker 14: Uh-oh, what is it?
- 1:35:26Speaker 9: Well, one of the bands that I like, Primus, in
- 1:35:30Speaker 9: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
- 1:35:32Speaker 14: Yeah, how come you didn't go for that one? Or
- 1:35:34Speaker 14: has it already been used?
- 1:35:35Speaker 13: It is not.
- 1:35:36Speaker 9: Or actually, that was in Excellent Adventure.
- 1:35:38Speaker 13: It's two.
- 1:35:39Speaker 9: No, it was in two.
- 1:35:41Speaker 13: It's in two.
- 1:35:42Speaker 9: Yeah, it's been a while since I've seen that movie.
- 1:35:44Speaker 13: I think that's why I kind of forgot. It's been
- 1:35:47Speaker 13: so long since I've seen it.
- 1:35:48Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:35:48Speaker 13: Because I remember at the end, the guy from Faith
- 1:35:51Speaker 13: No More is the super guitarist from the future that's
- 1:35:56Speaker 13: like the world's greatest guitarist, which I thought that was
- 1:35:58Speaker 13: a very humble role for him to take. But yeah,
- 1:36:02Speaker 13: robot Bill and Ted travel to the future and they're
- 1:36:05Speaker 13: getting ready to play in a.
- 1:36:06Speaker 9: Battle of the bands.
- 1:36:07Speaker 13: And I guess the band before them is Primus. Something
- 1:36:12Speaker 13: to that effect. Yeah.
- 1:36:14Speaker 14: I'm so proud of you, boyfriend. You came up with
- 1:36:15Speaker 14: a song for the show.
- 1:36:16Speaker 13: And you came up with Tommy the Cat.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: Well, I remember this all for a meal ago.
- 1:36:58Speaker 34: Said Tommy the Cat as he reeled back a clear
- 1:37:01Speaker 34: load of reform out of Maveness on its way into
- 1:37:02Speaker 34: his mighty throat. Many a fellow around met his demise
- 1:37:05Speaker 34: while Strangepoint blighted on the cover of a spiral that
- 1:37:06Speaker 34: saw some prowling machine.
- 1:37:08Speaker 14: Truly a wonder of nature, this urban predator.
- 1:37:10Speaker 34: Tommy the Cat had many a story to tell, but
- 1:37:11Speaker 34: it was a rare occasion such as this that he did.
- 1:37:19Speaker 24: So they hung on to roles such a multitude.
- 1:37:26Speaker 14: Of masculinity could only be found in one place and
- 1:37:29Speaker 14: that was the old.
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: But not even a muscle in the neck did put you.
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: She saw the strength of her heart the other way.
- 1:37:58Speaker 7: She knew what she wanted.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: She was looking for that stone ball. She was looking
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: for that key cat. And that was me.
- 1:38:10Speaker 11: Call me the cat is my name.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: And I'll say unto thee.
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: Say it baby, do you want to.
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: Lay down with me? Say it baby, do you want
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: to lay down by my side? Say it baby, do
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: you want to lay down with me?
- 1:38:19Speaker 17: Say it baby, do you want to lay down with me?
- 1:38:20Speaker 13: Stand up, baby!
- 1:38:20Speaker 2: Stand up, baby!
- 1:39:38Speaker 34: Do you want to lay down with me? Do you
- 1:39:40Speaker 34: want to lay down with me? Do you want to
- 1:39:41Speaker 34: lay down with me? Do you want to lay down
- 1:39:43Speaker 34: with me? What did curiosity do to the cat?
- 1:40:36Speaker 9: Do I get another one?
- 1:40:37Speaker 13: Would you like another one?
- 1:40:38Speaker 9: I'd like another one.
- 1:40:43Speaker 13: I'd like to phone a friend, please.
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: Okay, well.
- 1:40:45Speaker 13: Is that your final answer?
- 1:40:47Speaker 9: Another one of my favorite bands, the Reverend Horton Heat.
- 1:40:51Speaker 13: Oh, yeah.
- 1:40:52Speaker 9: They appeared in the movie Love in a 45. I
- 1:40:54Speaker 9: kind of remember that.
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: Strip club scene.
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: A lot of boobies.
- 1:41:00Speaker 13: Who was in that movie?
- 1:41:03Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: I don't remember.
- 1:41:06Speaker 13: He did a little bit of acting, because I remember
- 1:41:09Speaker 13: I talked to the reverend. Actually, we worked in a
- 1:41:11Speaker 13: very early episode of this show, and I brought up
- 1:41:15Speaker 13: the acting, and he kind of laughed at it. He
- 1:41:18Speaker 13: was on one of the weird cop shows, I think,
- 1:41:21Speaker 13: at the time, when years and years ago, playing a reverend,
- 1:41:26Speaker 13: a small country town reverend kind of up there, raising
- 1:41:31Speaker 13: hell like reverends do. And I think even then he
- 1:41:35Speaker 13: just kind of laughed that like it wasn't really a
- 1:41:38Speaker 13: thing he had any plan to ever go into or
- 1:41:42Speaker 13: maybe interest in pursuing. I think he just occasionally got
- 1:41:45Speaker 13: offered weird things and showed up for them. And yeah, so.
- 1:41:48Speaker 14: Oh, it's got Jeffrey Combs in that movie.
- 1:41:51Speaker 13: Reverend Horton Heat was a pretty cool dude.
- 1:41:53Speaker 10: Mm-hmm.
- 1:41:54Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 1:42:04Speaker 7: My left hand holds a half-up in the gym My
- 1:42:17Speaker 7: right arm reaches.
- 1:42:21Speaker 6: Out for her.
- 1:42:27Speaker 7: Lonely But my left arm.
- 1:42:31Speaker 6: Still wins The wife of sin.
- 1:43:06Speaker 7: Drowning in a sea of stinging whiskey.
- 1:43:11Speaker 16: And now.
- 1:44:13Speaker 17: My right hand holds a vial of tranquilizers.
- 1:44:17Speaker 7: My left hand holds a.
- 1:44:41Speaker 20: A young girl who's anticipating romance.
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: But it's looking.
- 1:44:55Speaker 17: Like she will.
- 1:45:28Speaker 18: But I ain't.
- 1:45:29Speaker 7: Drowned it yet I see a stinking whiskey And now
- 1:45:36Speaker 7: the only little love that's left is a loaded gun
- 1:45:40Speaker 7: And now the only.
- 1:46:04Speaker 14: That movie has Jack Nance. I love Jack Nance.
- 1:46:06Speaker 13: What's not to love about Jack Nance?
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:46:10Speaker 14: There's a fish in the percolator.
- 1:46:15Speaker 13: There is a fish in the percolator. Just in case.
- 1:46:19Speaker 13: What's sad is how often I make that reference.
- 1:46:22Speaker 14: Me too.
- 1:46:23Speaker 13: Still, like as huge as that thing got. So many
- 1:46:27Speaker 13: people don't know what I'm talking about.
- 1:46:28Speaker 14: Every time I see a percolator at a flea market,
- 1:46:30Speaker 14: is there a fish in there?
- 1:46:31Speaker 13: I don't even know. I'll usually just, I drink more
- 1:46:33Speaker 13: coffee than most humans. And like, if it's a little off,
- 1:46:36Speaker 13: I'll usually be like, oh, there's a fish in the percolator.
- 1:46:42Speaker 14: But the movie's got Renee Zellweger too. That kind of
- 1:46:43Speaker 14: knocks it down a couple pegs.
- 1:46:44Speaker 9: You know, I don't remember Renee Zellweger being in it.
- 1:46:48Speaker 13: She used to be in things that were kind of
- 1:46:50Speaker 13: cool at the time. That's how she ended up in
- 1:46:52Speaker 13: her own Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 1:46:54Speaker 9: You don't really notice her.
- 1:46:55Speaker 13: She wasn't all crunchy.
- 1:46:56Speaker 9: Some of the early stuff.
- 1:46:58Speaker 17: Pinched face.
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: Crunchy.
- 1:47:01Speaker 14: Your boyfriend doesn't like her face.
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: Nobody.
- 1:47:03Speaker 13: Even she didn't. That's why she changed it.
- 1:47:05Speaker 14: I don't know what she went with that one. It
- 1:47:07Speaker 14: wasn't really an improvement.
- 1:47:09Speaker 9: What?
- 1:47:10Speaker 14: Renee Zellweger's face.
- 1:47:11Speaker 3: She changed.
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: I mean, not to say.
- 1:47:13Speaker 13: Many starlets in Hollywood do.
- 1:47:15Speaker 9: Not to say, like, you know, like, I hate your face.
- 1:47:18Speaker 13: That's my job. Yeah, it's your job. That's kind of it.
- 1:47:23Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:47:24Speaker 9: There's just some people that are like, but that's like,
- 1:47:27Speaker 9: I mean, it's not to say that, like, anything, like,
- 1:47:29Speaker 9: somebody else doesn't like her face. It's like, there's a
- 1:47:31Speaker 9: lot of people that I'm just kind of like. I
- 1:47:34Speaker 9: don't like their face.
- 1:47:34Speaker 13: I feel like it wasn't even her face. I got
- 1:47:36Speaker 13: into her career choices. Because I don't even know that
- 1:47:39Speaker 13: she was a bad actress. I think she just made...
- 1:47:41Speaker 13: It was the same thing that.
- 1:47:44Speaker 13: What's Goldie Hawn Jr. 's name?
- 1:47:47Speaker 14: Kate Hudson.
- 1:47:48Speaker 13: Kate Hudson. She did the same thing. She made so
- 1:47:50Speaker 13: many bad, annoying choices in a row to make either...
- 1:47:55Speaker 13: rom-com nonsense or annoying girl in the movie that was
- 1:47:59Speaker 13: supposed to be a comedy but really she just really
- 1:48:01Speaker 13: is annoying and you don't like her by the end
- 1:48:02Speaker 13: of the movie like renee zellweger went kind of down
- 1:48:06Speaker 13: that road of being like annoying rom-com girl and i
- 1:48:09Speaker 13: just so many movies in a row that like i
- 1:48:11Speaker 13: got to the point i just i just don't want
- 1:48:13Speaker 13: to see whatever you're making now so i it's not
- 1:48:15Speaker 13: really well i guess it is her fault for making
- 1:48:17Speaker 13: those decisions but I didn't write her off for her
- 1:48:21Speaker 13: weird face. Her face just got attached to her bad
- 1:48:24Speaker 13: career choices in my issues with her.
- 1:48:29Speaker 14: Squint your face.
- 1:48:31Speaker 13: Yeah, that happens too. But it's different now.
- 1:48:33Speaker 14: It's very different. You don't like Reese Witherspoon's face. You
- 1:48:36Speaker 14: don't like the Olsen's faces.
- 1:48:38Speaker 9: I don't like Reese Witherspoon.
- 1:48:39Speaker 13: Hey, hey, hey. Not the latest Olsen. Don't rope her
- 1:48:43Speaker 13: into that.
- 1:48:43Speaker 14: You don't like Reese Witherspoon because you say she looks
- 1:48:46Speaker 14: like a troll.
- 1:48:47Speaker 9: Reese Witherspoon.
- 1:48:48Speaker 14: Troll face.
- 1:48:51Speaker 9: She does kind of look like a little bit of
- 1:48:52Speaker 9: a troll.
- 1:48:53Speaker 13: Like the little troll babies. What if she had the hair?
- 1:48:55Speaker 13: Because that would really do it for her.
- 1:48:57Speaker 9: It's like, I don't hate her.
- 1:49:00Speaker 14: Don't you know who I am?
- 1:49:00Speaker 13: Do you want to get shot a whole bunch of times?
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: It's my favorite.
- 1:49:04Speaker 13: I used to say that one all the time. Now
- 1:49:06Speaker 13: I constantly, any time her name comes up, don't.
- 1:49:08Speaker 16: You know who I am?
- 1:49:11Speaker 17: Oh, God.
- 1:49:11Speaker 9: Who else do I not like? The Olsons? They all
- 1:49:15Speaker 9: have that kind of squishy face.
- 1:49:17Speaker 14: Elizabeth Scott.
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: Not Elizabeth.
- 1:49:19Speaker 9: Well, I haven't seen Elizabeth. I'm talking about the other two.
- 1:49:21Speaker 13: The other two you can write off.
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: Everybody else did.
- 1:49:23Speaker 13: And they're billionaires, so it's okay.
- 1:49:25Speaker 9: Yeah, the two druggies.
- 1:49:27Speaker 13: I think only one, really.
- 1:49:28Speaker 9: The one druggy.
- 1:49:29Speaker 13: The other one gets roped in with her because they
- 1:49:30Speaker 13: always got, you know, they were attached at the hip
- 1:49:33Speaker 13: whether they liked.
- 1:49:33Speaker 14: It or not.
- 1:49:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:49:37Speaker 9: I'll never understand or know that life of privilege.
- 1:49:40Speaker 13: I will when I move in with Elizabeth. But anyway,
- 1:49:44Speaker 13: that's another story. So we're ready to round out with
- 1:49:47Speaker 13: the one, the main one I thought of outside of.
- 1:49:51Speaker 9: She looks like nuclear Danes.
- 1:49:54Speaker 13: There ain't nothing wrong with that either.
- 1:49:56Speaker 9: Nuclear Danes. Nuclear Danes.
- 1:49:58Speaker 13: My favorite supervillain. Powered by evil atoms. Nuclear Danes. I
- 1:50:07Speaker 13: think she's pretty.
- 1:50:10Speaker 9: She's okay. She's not bad.
- 1:50:11Speaker 14: No troll face?
- 1:50:12Speaker 9: No, she's not troll face.
- 1:50:15Speaker 13: So we're ready to round this thing out with the
- 1:50:17Speaker 13: one that I thought of outside of, I knew we
- 1:50:19Speaker 13: were already talking about Guns N' Roses. But the other
- 1:50:22Speaker 13: one I was like, a band that shows up in
- 1:50:24Speaker 13: a movie.
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: Okay, you guys, the band is about to hit it
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: big time. We're going to win Battle of the Bands,
- 1:50:31Speaker 2: and when I'm rolling in the Benjamins, I will throw
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: you and your dog a bone.
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: Good night.
- 1:50:36Speaker 13: If I'm thinking of a band that just shows up
- 1:50:39Speaker 13: and makes the movie, the movie can't exist without it.
- 1:50:42Speaker 13: Rock and Roll High School. How can you have that
- 1:50:45Speaker 13: movie without the Ramones?
- 1:50:46Speaker 14: I thought they were too much of a part of
- 1:50:47Speaker 14: that movie to be considered a cameo.
- 1:50:49Speaker 13: But yeah, I mean, they've got a sizable role in it,
- 1:50:52Speaker 13: but to me that is, because that's all they provide.
- 1:50:55Speaker 13: They're just there to be a band, and they are
- 1:50:57Speaker 13: a real band. They play themselves, which is also weird
- 1:51:01Speaker 13: because it was not made for them. And hearing the other,
- 1:51:05Speaker 13: that's the thing. Well, I mean, it had gone through,
- 1:51:07Speaker 13: because I got some of the notes, like, Because I
- 1:51:10Speaker 13: do remember, like, Corman originally, when he came up with
- 1:51:12Speaker 13: the general idea of, which, again, his work at that point, again,
- 1:51:16Speaker 13: directing days, he was awesome. By the time he moved
- 1:51:18Speaker 13: into producing, it was just, what'll make a buck? Like,
- 1:51:21Speaker 13: that's my job.
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: That's what I do.
- 1:51:23Speaker 13: So, like, in the beginning, it was like he was
- 1:51:25Speaker 13: just gunning for disco. Like, he just wanted to cash
- 1:51:29Speaker 13: in on disco.
- 1:51:30Speaker 9: Saturday night.
- 1:51:31Speaker 13: So, it was supposed to be, let's see, what was the,
- 1:51:33Speaker 13: there was a bunch of title changes.
- 1:51:35Speaker 9: The Bee Gees.
- 1:51:36Speaker 13: One of which was, okay, here we go. High School
- 1:51:39Speaker 13: Spirit of 76, Heavy Metal Kids, Girls Gym, California Girls,
- 1:51:44Speaker 13: Disco High was the one he was pushing for for
- 1:51:47Speaker 13: a couple of years. And then I think it's the director,
- 1:51:51Speaker 13: which I also just recently found out how much Joe
- 1:51:54Speaker 13: Dante actually had to do with it. He's credited as
- 1:51:57Speaker 13: one of the writers with this Alan Arkish thing. And
- 1:52:00Speaker 13: then Alan is listed as the director, but, like, uncredited.
- 1:52:03Speaker 13: It says later here, like, Alan, by the end, became, like,
- 1:52:07Speaker 13: one day was just overtaken with exhaustion. And, like, the
- 1:52:11Speaker 13: rest of the movie was finished. All the scenes were
- 1:52:14Speaker 13: shot by Joe Dante. So, he's sort of the uncredited
- 1:52:17Speaker 13: director on part of the movie.
- 1:52:19Speaker 14: I love Joe Dante.
- 1:52:20Speaker 13: So, Joe Dante's pretty awesome. Who we have spoken to.
- 1:52:23Speaker 3: Gosh.
- 1:52:23Speaker 26: Long ago.
- 1:52:24Speaker 9: Can you imagine how much of a clusterfuck disco high
- 1:52:28Speaker 9: school would be?
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:52:30Speaker 13: But that's even the, I think it was Alan. I
- 1:52:32Speaker 13: know Joe Dante was talking about the original band that
- 1:52:34Speaker 13: they wanted to come in when they switched to punk
- 1:52:37Speaker 13: rock's kind of the thing. Let's do punk rock was
- 1:52:39Speaker 13: The Clash. Can you imagine trying to do that? Because
- 1:52:43Speaker 13: The Clash is still fucking serious. And their songs are
- 1:52:46Speaker 13: about things. And I'm like, the Ramones are about sniffing glue.
- 1:52:50Speaker 13: The Ramones are about high school romance. It's so perfectly suited.
- 1:52:54Speaker 13: The more I thought about it, I was like, they're
- 1:52:56Speaker 13: so perfectly suited to be in this movie. Everything they're
- 1:53:00Speaker 13: about appeals to that of a 16-year-old. So it's like,
- 1:53:04Speaker 13: they're so perfectly suited to this. But yeah, supposedly he
- 1:53:07Speaker 13: wanted The Clash That wasn't going to work out. They
- 1:53:11Speaker 13: were gunning for Cheap Trick, which, again, I'm like, is not.
- 1:53:15Speaker 13: Cheap Trick is. They're fine. They're a good band. But
- 1:53:18Speaker 13: I'm like, doesn't fit either of those. Like, they're not
- 1:53:21Speaker 13: super punk rock. They certainly weren't coming off the disco
- 1:53:24Speaker 13: end of it. So I'm like, they were just kind
- 1:53:26Speaker 13: of a band.
- 1:53:27Speaker 9: Well, there's a lot of people that consider Cheap Trick
- 1:53:29Speaker 9: kind of like early punk.
- 1:53:32Speaker 13: Yeah, a different. A different breed.
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:53:35Speaker 16: Early.
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: Just that.
- 1:53:36Speaker 13: Because it was almost more of, like, when the new
- 1:53:39Speaker 13: wave was kicking in. Like, that kind of spun off
- 1:53:41Speaker 13: of the punk thing as it hit. Because that's kind
- 1:53:44Speaker 13: of what, like, Oingo Boingo fell more into that category. Like,
- 1:53:46Speaker 13: they came around at the same time as all the
- 1:53:48Speaker 13: punk bands. They used to play those live shows with
- 1:53:50Speaker 13: all the punk bands. But people were just like, what
- 1:53:52Speaker 13: the fuck are you? And then it became more of two. Yeah,
- 1:53:55Speaker 13: it was like Diva. Which was on the list. They
- 1:53:57Speaker 13: were on there, too. And they said they had, like,
- 1:54:00Speaker 13: their own thing so much so that it would take
- 1:54:02Speaker 13: away from what the movie was trying to do. Where
- 1:54:03Speaker 13: I guess... Again, the Ramones were so part of that
- 1:54:07Speaker 13: high school vibe that it fit perfectly.
- 1:54:10Speaker 9: Do you categorize them New Wave? Because a lot of them,
- 1:54:13Speaker 9: they just kind of throw in New Wave. You're like, nah,
- 1:54:16Speaker 9: that's not New Wave.
- 1:54:18Speaker 13: Plus, we've had on the honorary member of the Ramones.
- 1:54:23Speaker 13: She didn't claim that, but I dubbed her as. I
- 1:54:26Speaker 13: told PJ Souls, I was like, to me, you're just
- 1:54:29Speaker 13: your honorary, you're a member of the Ramones. She tried
- 1:54:33Speaker 13: to defend that.
- 1:54:34Speaker 9: I thought you were going to say Gilbert Godfrey.
- 1:54:36Speaker 14: Defend or deny?
- 1:54:38Speaker 16: Both.
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: Deny.
- 1:54:39Speaker 9: But one time he was the fifth Ramone.
- 1:54:42Speaker 13: That seems like a horrible world. Nobody wants that.
- 1:54:47Speaker 6: You don't remember that?
- 1:54:49Speaker 9: Back when USA's Up All Night used to be on.
- 1:54:55Speaker 9: They actually did. They played rock and roll high school.
- 1:54:57Speaker 9: And Gilbert Godfrey was like the fifth Ramone.
- 1:55:01Speaker 13: This was in the trivia, though. The Ramones were paid
- 1:55:05Speaker 13: a total of $ 25, 000 for appearing in the film and
- 1:55:08Speaker 13: had to play shows in Southern California to help pay
- 1:55:10Speaker 13: their hotel bills. During the 21-day shoot, Dee Dee got
- 1:55:14Speaker 13: arrested for fighting with a roadie, overdosed in jail, and
- 1:55:17Speaker 13: wound up in Cedars-Sinai Hospital with a $ 3, 000 medical bill.
- 1:55:21Speaker 16: Good times.
- 1:55:22Speaker 13: The Ramones, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:55:24Speaker 14: Is there just one left at this point?
- 1:55:27Speaker 13: Yeah, and I don't even think he was original, was he?
- 1:55:29Speaker 13: I thought he was one of the... took over as
- 1:55:32Speaker 13: they were starting.
- 1:55:33Speaker 14: I was never a big Ramones fan, so I don't
- 1:55:35Speaker 14: know these things. I just thought that there was one
- 1:55:36Speaker 14: still alive.
- 1:55:37Speaker 13: There is somebody that still was at one point.
- 1:55:40Speaker 14: Jimmy, Johnny, Joey. No, Joey's gone.
- 1:55:42Speaker 13: They're all dead.
- 1:55:44Speaker 14: Was there a Jimmy?
- 1:55:46Speaker 13: Jimmy Johns. I think you're thinking of Jimmy Johns. They are,
- 1:55:51Speaker 13: at the time, because I went through to make sure
- 1:55:53Speaker 13: what their crediting was, Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Marky
- 1:55:57Speaker 13: were in the movie.
- 1:55:59Speaker 14: Marky's still around, isn't Marky the one who's still around?
- 1:56:01Speaker 13: I think, because wasn't Marky just going to come to
- 1:56:03Speaker 13: one of the conventions and cancel? One of them, whichever
- 1:56:06Speaker 13: one was left, was going to come to one of
- 1:56:08Speaker 13: those horror conventions and then he had to cancel. But yes,
- 1:56:11Speaker 13: we had PJ Souls on, and I tried to convince
- 1:56:14Speaker 13: her she was still, you know, one of the remaining.
- 1:56:17Speaker 13: She needed to get like a tour going again, and
- 1:56:20Speaker 13: I don't think she was going to go along.
- 1:56:21Speaker 14: Did you take Spadula with you?
- 1:56:22Speaker 3: Oh, I did.
- 1:56:23Speaker 13: You've seen it. You saw the picture, I mean.
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: Spadula.
- 1:56:27Speaker 13: If anybody's getting an Angemima treatment, it's me. Anyway, so,
- 1:56:32Speaker 13: I thought that was only fitting to round things out
- 1:56:35Speaker 13: with the titular Rock and Roll High School. But, since
- 1:56:40Speaker 13: you've already come up with 47 other songs that we
- 1:56:43Speaker 13: didn't work in yet, and I'm sure you at home
- 1:56:45Speaker 13: are yelling, but what about this one? And how come
- 1:56:47Speaker 13: you didn't play this one? Again, we just randomly picked some.
- 1:56:50Speaker 13: That just means we can come back for the sequel
- 1:56:53Speaker 13: to this concept as we finish this theme another episode.
- 1:56:58Speaker 9: In the future.
- 1:57:00Speaker 13: But for now, otherwise that about does it. In the meantime,
- 1:57:03Speaker 13: get a light. We'll provide the soundtrack.
- 1:57:05Speaker 7: Hit it, Marky!
- 1:57:10Speaker 18: Hi, everybody.
- 1:57:11Speaker 22: I'm Riff Randall, and this is Rock and Roll High School.
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: Rock, rock, rock, rock, rock on high school.
- 1:57:18Speaker 14: When you're high, don't care about history.
- 1:57:29Speaker 6: Rock, rock, rock, rock on high.
- 1:57:31Speaker 18: School I just wanna have some peaks I just wanna
- 1:57:35Speaker 18: get some.
- 1:57:36Speaker 26: Cheeks Rock, rock, rock, rock, rock on high school But.
- 1:57:40Speaker 14: If the girls out there like me actually know.
- 1:57:43Speaker 6: Rock, rock, rock, rock on high school.

- 1:57:47Speaker 26: Rock, rock on high school I hate the teachers.
- 1:57:50Speaker 15: And the principal Don't wanna be called to.
- 1:57:54Speaker 10: Be no fool.
- 1:57:59Speaker 17: Rock and roll high.

- 1:58:07Speaker 24: Rock and roll high school Fun fun We'll be right back.
- 1:58:31Speaker 7: I just wanna have some kicks I.
- 1:58:36Speaker 6: Just wanna get some chicks.
- 1:58:39Speaker 18: Rock, rock, rock, rock, rock on high.
- 1:58:44Speaker 6: School Rock, rock, rock, rock, rock.
- 1:58:47Speaker 17: On high school.
- 1:58:51Speaker 26: .
- 1:58:58Speaker 11: .
- 1:59:11Speaker 18: .
- 1:59:12Speaker 6: .
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: .
- 1:59:18Speaker 9: That movie came out in the 90s? No, that's not 90s.
- 1:59:21Speaker 3: I thought it had to be 90s.
- 1:59:23Speaker 13: When were we doing 90s? Other than we did 14
- 1:59:26Speaker 13: songs from singles.
- 1:59:27Speaker 14: No, it's just random.
- 1:59:28Speaker 13: I thought you told me it was 90s.
- 1:59:29Speaker 17: No.
- 1:59:30Speaker 9: Oh, well, hell, if I didn't know it was 90s,
- 1:59:32Speaker 9: I would have picked some other stuff. I'm just sitting
- 1:59:34Speaker 9: there going, God, that's not 90s.
- 1:59:37Speaker 14: No, we have not limited ourselves.
- 1:59:38Speaker 16: Oh, shit.
- 1:59:39Speaker 9: I thought we were limiting ourselves.
- 1:59:41Speaker 13: No. We did that on the 90s episode. That happened
- 1:59:43Speaker 13: a long time ago.
- 1:59:44Speaker 20: Well, whatever.
- 1:59:45Speaker 13: You can come back for the 90s episode or continue
- 1:59:47Speaker 13: these on the next soundtrack.
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: That's okay.
- 1:59:51Speaker 14: And just so you know, when you go back and
- 1:59:52Speaker 14: listen to this, yes, you do sound high.
- 1:59:55Speaker 13: That's why I wanted cookies, man.
- 1:59:57Speaker 14: And just for the record, he's not. He's just tired.
- 2:00:02Speaker 14: He's like, I went and I listened to the podcast
- 2:00:07Speaker 14: and God, I just sound high.
- 2:00:10Speaker 13: I didn't know we were that kind of show because
- 2:00:12Speaker 13: we're kind of not, but... Maybe we appeal to those
- 2:00:16Speaker 13: who are.
- 2:00:16Speaker 14: I'm just telling you now ahead of time.
- 2:00:18Speaker 9: Yeah, no, I'm just really tired.
