- 0:00Hey you guys, happy Tuesday. This is friendly.
- 0:04Thanks for joining me on in the stillness this morning.
- 0:07I'm so glad that you're here. Today's episode was really just
- 0:12honing in on coming before God with confidence.
- 0:16It's not something that we strive for, but something that
- 0:20we know. And it is a deep settled knowing
- 0:24that ultimately brings rest. And I think a lot of us can
- 0:29quietly carry the question, am I doing enough?
- 0:33Am I being enough? So today, the passage that we're
- 0:37going to be in, we are going to let Scripture answer that we're
- 0:41going to be reading first John chapter 3 through verses 20 to
- 0:4522. For whenever our hearts make us
- 0:50feel guilty and remind us of our failures, we know that God is
- 0:55much greater and more merciful than our conscience, and He
- 1:00knows everything there is to know about us.
- 1:03My delightfully loved friends, when our hearts don't condemn
- 1:08us, we have a bold freedom to speak face to face with God.
- 1:14And whatever we ask of him, we receive because we keep His
- 1:18commands, and by our beautiful intentions, we continue to do
- 1:23what brings pleasure to Him. OK, first of all, there's that
- 1:29word know. Knowing communicates confidence.
- 1:35And it's this confidence that produces rest, ease of mind, a
- 1:39quieted soul. This reflects the posture that
- 1:44we actually see in Psalm 131, which is the Psalm that this
- 1:48podcast was really inspired by. It's a heart stilled and quieted
- 1:53before the Lord. So there is no striving, no
- 1:57proving, just being with him because his presence quiets our
- 2:03soul. It brings rejuvenation, rest, a
- 2:07sound mind. So I just want to ask you guys,
- 2:11when was the last time that you sat with God without trying to
- 2:16prove anything, without trying to earn his favor or his
- 2:21blessing, but just to be with Him?
- 2:25This passage also speaks directly to something that I
- 2:29honestly didn't fully recognize before because I've read this,
- 2:33but it is speaking to a whole different thing.
- 2:37Perfectionism. I didn't realize for a very long
- 2:41time how much of my relationship with God was driven by trying to
- 2:46get it right instead of just being with Him.
- 2:50There was a constant internal question, Am I doing enough?
- 2:55And sometimes I think that pressure is fueled by comparison
- 3:00because it's when you start looking around at what others
- 3:03are doing, what they're accomplishing, and then suddenly
- 3:07your focus can shift from why am I doing this and who am I doing
- 3:12this for? Because if it is for God, there
- 3:16is freedom in that. But if it's for validation,
- 3:20there's always going to be pressure.
- 3:23So just ask yourself right now, am I serving from love or is it
- 3:29from pressure or trying to measure up?
- 3:34At the core of all of this is the greatness of God's grace.
- 3:39He sees the worst parts of us, yet He still cascades us in His
- 3:44mercy and acceptance. First, John is reminding us that
- 3:50even when our hearts condemn us, God is greater.
- 3:55He's greater than your heart, greater than your thoughts.
- 3:58He's greater than the voice that keeps telling you that you're
- 4:01not enough. Romans 81 says there is no
- 4:06condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
- 4:10And 1st John 44 reminds us he who is in you is greater than he
- 4:16who is in the world. So God's assuring voice is
- 4:21always, always greater than the accusing voice, whether that is
- 4:26from the enemy or from your own thoughts.
- 4:31But we do have to understand this clearly.
- 4:34Conviction is not the same as condemnation.
- 4:39Conviction communicates, come back to me.
- 4:43That's the Lord drawing us near to him.
- 4:45But condemnation says stay away. You're too far gone.
- 4:50You see, conviction leads to repentance and to real freedom,
- 4:55but condemnation leads to guilt, shame, and ultimately bondage.
- 5:00So it is so important to discern the voice that you're hearing.
- 5:05Is it drawing you closer to God, or is it pushing you further
- 5:09away from Him? God's voice speaks truth with
- 5:14love. It's never to shame you, and
- 5:17it's never to degrade you. Now, let's also just talk about
- 5:22the heart for a moment because it says here that our hearts can
- 5:27condemn us. And Scripture is so, so clear in
- 5:32Proverbs 4, verse 23, It commands us.
- 5:35Guard your heart above all else, for it is the wellspring of
- 5:40life. So your thoughts flow out of
- 5:45your heart. So what is shaping your heart
- 5:48the most right now? What are you feeding it?
- 5:51Whether that is through music, through shows and movies,
- 5:55conversations, other voices. Because when the world says to
- 6:01follow your heart, the Bible calls us to something better.
- 6:05We are told to walk by the Spirit and to keep in step with
- 6:09the Spirit as it says in Galatians 5.
- 6:13So instead of following your heart, we follow the Spirit,
- 6:17allowing the Spirit to lead and align us.
- 6:21And here's the cool thing, when our hearts are aligned to the
- 6:26Father's will and not condemning us, something shifts because we
- 6:32then can approach God with boldness and with confidence, a
- 6:37clear conscience. It casts out fear and it allows
- 6:43us to bring our requests freely to God.
- 6:48First, John 3 verse 22, as I read, shows us that we receive
- 6:53because we obey, we please Him, and it says by our beautiful
- 6:57intentions we continue to do what brings pleasure to Him.
- 7:02That's actually directly from the Aramaic and Ecclesiastes 2
- 7:07verse 26 affirms it. It says to the person who
- 7:11pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and happiness.
- 7:17So when your life is aligned with the Lord, your desires
- 7:21begin to align too, and your prayers then change because
- 7:27you're not just asking for things that solely benefit you,
- 7:31you're asking for things that reflect His heart.
- 7:36So let me ask you, are your prayers shaped more by what you
- 7:41want or by what God wants to do through you?
- 7:46And even when it feels like your prayers may not be answered,
- 7:52Scripture reassures us no good thing does the Lord withhold
- 7:58from those whose walk is blameless.
- 8:00Psalm 84, verse 11. So if you're pursuing Him, if
- 8:06you are eagerly desiring righteousness and something
- 8:10still isn't happening the way that you had hoped, I just want
- 8:13to encourage you trust that He may have something better
- 8:18honestly, that He does have something better, whether that
- 8:22is a better gift, a better plan, and better timing.
- 8:26Because the bottom line is that God is a good Father.
- 8:32And in Matthew 7 verse seven, He tells us to ask, to seek to
- 8:38knock because He responds and He responds perfectly because He is
- 8:44the definition of perfection. You do not have to strive to be
- 8:49enough for God. You get to rest in the truth
- 8:53that it's through Jesus, in Christ Jesus, you already are.
- 9:00So with all of that, let's go ahead and close out in prayer.
- 9:06Dear God, thank you that you are greater.
- 9:13You are greater than our hearts and every accusing voice.
- 9:19I pray that You would help us guard our hearts, Lord, to walk
- 9:24in step with Your Spirit and to keep in step with Your spirit.
- 9:29I pray that we would not waver, that we would stay on the narrow
- 9:33path of righteousness. And would You just tune our ears
- 9:38into Your frequency, Holy Spirit, to help us recognize
- 9:43Your voice of truth that is above all other?
- 9:49Would you align our desires with yours, God, and just give us a
- 9:53confidence, a boldness to come to you freely without shame,
- 9:58without guilt? There is no condemnation for
- 10:02those who are in Christ Jesus. I pray that every listener would
- 10:08believe that and that they would live in the freedom that you
- 10:11died for Jesus. We pray this in your precious
- 10:15name. Amen.
- 10:17OK y'all. Well, that's today's episode.
- 10:20Praying that you feel blessed by it and that you can continue
- 10:24just learning the Father's voice more intimately and become more
- 10:29aware of His Spirit leading you through every single moment of
- 10:32the day. I will see y'all on the next
- 10:34podcast.
