Speaker 3: As always, the pictures posted at Dave Island Radio on
1:45
Speaker 3: Facebook and the WCCHS Network Facebook page, as well as
1:48
Speaker 3: at Dave A seventy on x. We are going to
1:51
Speaker 3: spend a little time talking about a celebration that is
1:53
Speaker 3: going to be happening next week from Mountain State Spotlight
1:56
Speaker 3: as they celebrate their fifth anniversary. And we got a
2:00
Speaker 3: whole lot of other things we're gonna get into as well.
2:04
Speaker 3: Right now, let's talk a little high school football, though.
2:06
Speaker 3: Is Chris Lawrence Tom Bragg joined us in the studio.
2:08
Speaker 3: Chris is, good morning. How are you good morning? I'm
2:11
Speaker 3: doing fine. Before we get into high school football, I
2:13
Speaker 3: do want to say that might be a good idea
2:17
Speaker 3: for you because you need another dog in your life. Uh,
2:20
Speaker 3: you need to go over to the Facebook page. Look
2:23
Speaker 3: at our adoptment. Please put of the week. He's a
2:25
Speaker 3: hound dog named Hank. Well, I already got one Hank
2:28
Speaker 3: in the household as we can have. And okay, but
2:31
Speaker 3: Hank two, yeah, Hank the third. This is a hound
2:34
Speaker 3: dog named Hank, who, according to Angie who we'll talk
2:38
Speaker 3: to you in a couple of moments Ago, doesn't bark.
2:41
Speaker 3: Now you're what goes a hound dog. I guess. I
2:44
Speaker 3: don't know if he does sign language. I don't know
2:46
Speaker 3: if he just puts up a.
2:47
Speaker 5: Sign tree and that's the thing. And I don't know
2:49
Speaker 5: how you bark treat if he can't bark.
2:51
Speaker 3: But as soon as I said I saw that, she
2:53
Speaker 3: sends me the picture of every Thursday night I saw
2:55
Speaker 3: that hound dog name Hank, I immediately thought of you.
2:59
Speaker 5: Well, I appreciate that I have enough dogs though I've
3:02
Speaker 5: got two of them, and and and they are both
3:06
Speaker 5: small dogs, and they both are are highly uh what
3:10
Speaker 5: do you we call it highly demanding? I'm maintenance and uh,
3:14
Speaker 5: and they're both prima donnas. So the last thing I
3:17
Speaker 5: need is another dog, even if it's one that you
3:19
Speaker 5: know has a gentle, little disposition and you know works
3:23
Speaker 5: well with others. Because I had two dogs that don't
3:26
Speaker 5: and doesn't spark doesn't exactly. All right, So let's start
3:29
Speaker 5: with your game tonight. You got the Hurricane game, right,
3:32
Speaker 5: I do. I have Hurricane hosting Parkersburg. And really, my
3:35
Speaker 5: biggest hope for this game is that we don't have lightning.
3:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you're in good shape.
3:39
Speaker 5: I do not want to go through that mess again
3:42
Speaker 5: like we had last week. I was trying to figure
3:44
Speaker 5: out what we were going to do. Fortunately, we had
3:46
Speaker 5: Reds baseball in our back pocket that we could just
3:48
Speaker 5: pop on. We don't have that luxury tonight because the
3:51
Speaker 5: Reds are on the West Coast, sou And it was
3:54
Speaker 5: really interesting. We were at Crawford Field last week, and
3:56
Speaker 5: when we went into game suspension and the monsoon opened up,
4:00
Speaker 5: I text team Team Bragg and Murphy and and Murph's like,
4:05
Speaker 5: what are you talking about. It's not even raining here.
4:07
Speaker 5: He goes, we'ren't a lightning delay, but there's no rain,
4:10
Speaker 5: and I thought, well, that's weird because there we were
4:13
Speaker 5: in Windfield. Yeah, and then when they canceled our game,
4:17
Speaker 5: like ten minutes later, I'm driving up the interstate and
4:19
Speaker 5: I hear them going, oh, yeah, it's it's a monsoon
4:22
Speaker 5: here as well.
4:24
Speaker 3: Murphy actually posted a video of it, and it did.
4:26
Speaker 3: It looked like a hurricane, not a hurricane. It looked
4:29
Speaker 3: like a hurricane in Winfield. It was a bad out
4:31
Speaker 3: there when it hit. But like you said, we had
4:32
Speaker 3: a lightning delay for probably half an hour with just
4:35
Speaker 3: no rain. You could tell it was coming though. Yeah,
4:37
Speaker 3: when it finally hit, I think Matt had parked the
4:39
Speaker 3: truck out in a spot that had low ground on
4:42
Speaker 3: either side of it and so there was no safe
4:44
Speaker 3: way to get But I think he just took his
4:45
Speaker 3: shoes off and got in barefoot.
4:47
Speaker 5: That's but that's what happened. Yeah, we had about thirty
4:49
Speaker 5: minutes there after the first lightning strike that you probably
4:52
Speaker 5: could have gotten the first half in, but because of
4:55
Speaker 5: the rules, they had to quit. And then when they
4:56
Speaker 5: started back up, everybody came back in, got it started,
4:58
Speaker 5: and then the next time there were there was no
5:01
Speaker 5: going back after that one.
5:02
Speaker 3: So hopefully we don't have that problem. So talk about
5:04
Speaker 3: the matchup Parkersbrook and.
5:05
Speaker 5: Hurt We have two teams that are winless and one
5:08
Speaker 5: of them will get their first win tonight. It's been
5:10
Speaker 5: kind of rough for both of these teams. Parkersburg had
5:14
Speaker 5: to lead last week and they let it get away
5:17
Speaker 5: from them to Spring Valley. And then of course Hurricane
5:20
Speaker 5: started their season against an extremely difficult opponent in George
5:24
Speaker 5: Rogers Clark of Kentucky, and then they got beaten last
5:27
Speaker 5: week as well. So one of these teams is going
5:29
Speaker 5: to come out out of tonight with their first victory.
5:32
Speaker 5: It'll be interesting to see who will do that because
5:34
Speaker 5: both teams have a lot of young guys that are
5:37
Speaker 5: just trying to find their foothold, so this should be
5:39
Speaker 5: a good opportunity for one of them to take a
5:42
Speaker 5: step forward tonight.
5:43
Speaker 3: All right, well, you got on Westervirgina Outdoors. Tomorrow morning,
5:46
Speaker 3: We're going to talk a little bit more about the
5:48
Speaker 3: EHD problems that are happening in the midd Ohio Valley
5:51
Speaker 3: and that is an illness called episootic chemorrhagic disease in
5:58
Speaker 3: white tailed deer, and we'll tell you a little more
6:01
Speaker 3: about that because it's a great concern for folks in
6:03
Speaker 3: that part of the state. And also the National Wild
6:06
Speaker 3: Turkey Federation, the state chapter has a lot of projects
6:09
Speaker 3: going on. Kelly McCurdy with NWTF West Virginia is going
6:13
Speaker 3: to join us and we're going to spotlight some of those.
6:15
Speaker 3: Plus it's opened a weekend of squirrel season. I saw
6:18
Speaker 3: your post this morning about how when as a kid
6:20
Speaker 3: you couldn't sleep the night before on squirrel season in
6:22
Speaker 3: Virginia was always September of the fifteenth man, and I
6:26
Speaker 3: just it was.
6:27
Speaker 5: However, Saturday was around the fifteenth because I always had
6:29
Speaker 5: to go to school for the other days, but yeah, Saturday,
6:32
Speaker 5: I couldn't wait to get up and get hit the way.
6:35
Speaker 3: And you and I have talked about this before because
6:36
Speaker 3: we're roughly the same age or a year so older
6:39
Speaker 3: than I am. But I just as goes to show
6:41
Speaker 3: you how much things have changed. I remember quite well
6:44
Speaker 3: in elementary school kids bringing their guns to school in
6:49
Speaker 3: high school all the time. This was I'm talking in
6:53
Speaker 3: grade school to go squirrel hunting immediately after. I mean
6:57
Speaker 3: where our elementary school was, which doesn't exist more. But
7:00
Speaker 3: what they I mean, the boys would bring bring the
7:02
Speaker 3: guns into the school, take them on the bus, give
7:05
Speaker 3: them to the teacher, and whatever time the bell rang
7:08
Speaker 3: for the final about three o'clock or whatever, got their guns,
7:11
Speaker 3: walked to the school and walked right over the mountain.
7:13
Speaker 3: No parents, no anything. Same thing, same thing at my
7:16
Speaker 3: high school. It was.
7:18
Speaker 5: It just seems so foreign of a concept today. But
7:21
Speaker 5: our assistant principal said, I don't want your guns. And
7:25
Speaker 5: they were hanging in the back window of the truck.
7:28
Speaker 5: He goes, I don't want that in the parking lot.
7:29
Speaker 5: He said, bring them in here. So we'd come into
7:32
Speaker 5: the school, different shotgun And when you walk the vice
7:36
Speaker 5: principals and when you go into his office, literally there
7:38
Speaker 5: were twenty shotguns all the way around the room for
7:40
Speaker 5: small caliber rifles.
7:42
Speaker 3: It was amazing. All right, Chris, have a good broadcast
7:44
Speaker 3: to night. We'll be listening tomorrow morning. Thanks good man.
7:47
Speaker 3: Transition over to Tom Bragg. You have got the You
7:50
Speaker 3: and Murphy have got the Nitro and Hoover game tonight
7:53
Speaker 3: talking about them. Yeah, big one down in LF.
7:55
Speaker 6: Two top five teams in the Metro News Power rankings
7:58
Speaker 6: s clash Triple A this week Nightro coming in at
7:59
Speaker 6: four or Hoover at five. Wildcats and Huskies coming in
8:03
Speaker 6: off big wins last week. I know Chris had the
8:05
Speaker 6: delayed game the Battle of the Bridge and ended up
8:08
Speaker 6: a lopsided Nitro win on Saturday morning. Similar thing happened
8:11
Speaker 6: with Herbert Hoover in Winfield last week. Huskies end up
8:15
Speaker 6: coming away with a thirty five zero win, a big
8:17
Speaker 6: bounce back game for them after coming up short down
8:20
Speaker 6: on the road at Independence week one. They're one and
8:22
Speaker 6: one coming into this one. But this is a heavyweight
8:24
Speaker 6: matchup certainly as far as Canall Valley high school football goes,
8:28
Speaker 6: but statewide in Class TRIPLEA, this is won. A lot
8:31
Speaker 6: of people around the Mountain State have their eyes on
8:34
Speaker 6: two very good teams. Some questions though. I think whoever's
8:38
Speaker 6: offensive line keeps their quarterback upright is the team that's
8:42
Speaker 6: gonna find more success in this one. It was a
8:44
Speaker 6: big problem from Hoover week one. They allowed eight sacks.
8:46
Speaker 6: They cleaned that up against Winfield last week. This Nitro defense,
8:50
Speaker 6: so they've played really well. No points allowed against Saint
8:52
Speaker 6: Albans last week. They haven't necessarily played a team the
8:56
Speaker 6: caliber of Independence like Hoover has. I think that's the
8:58
Speaker 6: best opponent either of these teams has faced so far.
9:01
Speaker 3: But we'll see.
9:02
Speaker 6: Man, this is always a fun game when these two
9:03
Speaker 6: get together. You know, last year these were two high
9:05
Speaker 6: flying teams scoring a ton of points. They get together
9:08
Speaker 6: thirteen to ten overtime game. Herbert Hoover won that one.
9:11
Speaker 6: One of the best games Murphy and I had all
9:13
Speaker 6: of last year rematches. Tonight down in Elkview, we kick
9:17
Speaker 6: off is at seven, will go live probably six fifty five,
9:20
Speaker 6: six fifty a couple minutes before then, and man, really
9:22
Speaker 6: looking forward to this one, this one. When the schedule
9:24
Speaker 6: came out, you know you circle marked that games you
9:26
Speaker 6: look for Win's the Nitro game. This might have been
9:28
Speaker 6: the first one we started.
9:29
Speaker 3: In that game. Tonight, of course on Superstar Country ninety
9:31
Speaker 3: six to one KWS, Chris Lawrence is the Hurricane Game
9:35
Speaker 3: of Parkersburg. He and Aaron Parker will have the call
9:37
Speaker 3: of that on WCCHS. Let me ask you real quickly
9:39
Speaker 3: and then we're going to transition over to Angie Gillenwater.
9:42
Speaker 3: You're all decked out in your Marshall gear today. Oddly enough,
9:45
Speaker 3: I've got my Marshall shirt on. There's also a big
9:48
Speaker 3: game in Morgantown tomorrow, so wbu Pitt, give me quick
9:52
Speaker 3: twenty thirty seconds your thoughts on that game and the
9:54
Speaker 3: Marshall game. Marshall still looking for their first victory as
9:57
Speaker 3: they take on East Kentucky tomorrow, So talk about you
10:00
Speaker 3: pit first.
10:00
Speaker 6: I think something's got to give, particularly on the West
10:03
Speaker 6: Virginia side. Rich's first team, his first year back. They're
10:05
Speaker 6: kind of trying to find their identity, find some momentum.
10:08
Speaker 6: It would be a great spot to really win the
10:10
Speaker 6: fans back over after a rough outing last week. It's
10:12
Speaker 6: gonna be a tough game. It's pretty good this year,
10:14
Speaker 6: maybe better than they've been the last few years. So
10:16
Speaker 6: interesting to see the opportunities there for them to really
10:19
Speaker 6: see something and for Marshall. You got to win and
10:21
Speaker 6: it's got to be a thorough beating or the folks,
10:23
Speaker 6: the pitchforks and the torches might start to come out.
10:25
Speaker 6: It has been a rough start for Gibbe down in Huntington. Yeah,
10:27
Speaker 6: that game last week, Wolf, it just kind of an
10:29
Speaker 6: indictment on maybe how well or how not well they
10:33
Speaker 6: did in the transfer portal. And it's a dicey gamble
10:36
Speaker 6: with a lot of those guys, and through a couple
10:37
Speaker 6: of weeks it looks like it's not paying off for
10:39
Speaker 6: the hurt so far.
10:39
Speaker 3: We'll see, I mean, we don't do not want to
10:41
Speaker 3: start zero to three. No, that's not good. All right,
10:45
Speaker 3: mister Bragg, appreciate it, buddy, Thanks a lot. We'll be
10:47
Speaker 3: listening tonight you and Matt Murphy again. That will be
10:50
Speaker 3: in the land of the Huskies tonight for Herbert Hoover
10:52
Speaker 3: and Nitro and Chris and Aaron Parker will be a
10:54
Speaker 3: hurricane for the Redskins and Parkersburg. So again, the Parkersburg
10:58
Speaker 3: and Hurricane game on WCCHS Superstar Country is the place
11:01
Speaker 3: for Hurricane football. I mean, sorry, Herbert Hoover football, as
11:04
Speaker 3: they will be taking on Nitro. Thanks a lot, buddy,
11:06
Speaker 3: Thanks David. All right, let's go to Angie gillen Water
11:08
Speaker 3: from the Kenaal Charleston, New Maine Association with this week
11:11
Speaker 3: sodopt me please ped the week. Angie, Good morning, Welcome
11:13
Speaker 3: to the show.
11:14
Speaker 7: Good morning.
11:15
Speaker 8: Almost had a yawn, interrupt that are you Are.
11:19
Speaker 3: You not a football fan? And she said what it was?
11:22
Speaker 8: Oh no, it's just a Friday morning after a long week.
11:25
Speaker 3: I got you. I got you. By the way, I
11:27
Speaker 3: want to give a little personal note about Angie here,
11:28
Speaker 3: and I don't need to go into all the details,
11:30
Speaker 3: but I had a good friend, friend of the program,
11:32
Speaker 3: frequent guests of the program that had a situation. No,
11:36
Speaker 3: I'm sorry, wrong story. I'm getting stories mixed up here.
11:39
Speaker 3: I had a good friend who reached out to me
11:41
Speaker 3: and former former employee of this company as a matter
11:44
Speaker 3: of fact, because they had a they had a straight
11:47
Speaker 3: a stray dog situation. And she said, I really need
11:50
Speaker 3: some help, and I hooked you up with Vicky and
11:53
Speaker 3: you got her taking care of Again. I don't know
11:55
Speaker 3: all the tales, don't need to, but to appreciate your
11:57
Speaker 3: help on that, Angie.
11:58
Speaker 8: I had no problem. Vicky as a a and I
12:01
Speaker 8: were actively working that situation. That dog's a little smarter
12:05
Speaker 8: than us.
12:05
Speaker 3: Dog. All right. Again, I do thank you for your
12:09
Speaker 3: help because she reached out to me and she said, look,
12:11
Speaker 3: I don't I don't know what to do here. I said,
12:13
Speaker 3: I got just a person. Let me give you Angie's
12:15
Speaker 3: phone number, and so so you're trying, let's get to
12:18
Speaker 3: this week's not me please spend of the week. As always.
12:20
Speaker 3: The pictures posted on Dave Island Radio and Facebook, also
12:23
Speaker 3: the w CHS network Facebook page, as well as at
12:26
Speaker 3: Dave A seventy on X. It's Hank. Tried to get
12:29
Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence, who has a son named Hank, to to
12:33
Speaker 3: at least look at adopting Hank. He didn't seem to
12:36
Speaker 3: be very interested, but Hank would be a fantastic dog.
12:39
Speaker 3: Tell us Hank's story.
12:41
Speaker 8: Hank would absolutely be a fantastic dog for anyone. He
12:44
Speaker 8: actually came to the shelter as astray with like a
12:46
Speaker 8: six month old puppy who is named Whalen.
12:50
Speaker 3: That's my cat's name. That's my cat's name.
12:52
Speaker 8: That's exactly why I made you telling you. Yeah, we
12:55
Speaker 8: might change Hank's name to Grady.
12:57
Speaker 3: Actually, okay, all right, all right.
13:00
Speaker 8: Hank is about four years old, sixty pounds. He's good
13:04
Speaker 8: with other calm dogs and extremely friendly with kids. And
13:08
Speaker 8: if you look at his picture, you'll notice he's a
13:11
Speaker 8: hound dog of sorts. I'm not sure exactly what breed
13:14
Speaker 8: of hound dogs he's got. The ears, he's got the
13:17
Speaker 8: tail the coloring. Interesting fact about Hank, though, is that
13:21
Speaker 8: he has I've not heard him bark yet, which is
13:23
Speaker 8: very unusual for a hound, but also unusual just for
13:27
Speaker 8: a dog in our in our shelterships.
13:29
Speaker 3: Well, and that's interesting because I mentioned that because you know,
13:31
Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence is mister outdoors around here, and I mentioned
13:34
Speaker 3: that to him. I said, this is a hound dog
13:35
Speaker 3: named Hank, perfect for you. I said, But the one
13:37
Speaker 3: thing is Angie doesn't know if he barks or not.
13:39
Speaker 3: And he's said, well, you know, who's ever heard of
13:42
Speaker 3: a hound dog that doesn't bark? But apparently this is one.
13:44
Speaker 3: Or maybe he just didn't have anything to say yet.
13:47
Speaker 8: Yeah, that could be it too. He seems pretty easy going,
13:50
Speaker 8: so I don't know if he just doesn't have any
13:52
Speaker 8: complaints and like he doesn't get excited about much. But yeah,
13:56
Speaker 8: I have yet to hear him bark. Copper, we did
13:59
Speaker 8: a few weeks ago. Copper, you can tell where he's
14:02
Speaker 8: in that shelter at all times. Thank not so much?
14:05
Speaker 3: All right, So we'll get back to Hank it a
14:06
Speaker 3: couple moments again. If you want to see his picture,
14:08
Speaker 3: go over to my social media pages also the WCCHS
14:11
Speaker 3: page tell us about this diplomat program. I was reading
14:15
Speaker 3: a little bit on your social media last night about
14:17
Speaker 3: this diplomat program that you got going on to shelter.
14:20
Speaker 8: Talk about that, yeah, so, and it's our Donkey diplomat
14:23
Speaker 8: diplomat program, and our volunteers and staff participate in this.
14:28
Speaker 8: But essentially we our Behaviors keeps a map of the
14:32
Speaker 8: most stressed dogs in our care. And one way that
14:35
Speaker 8: we can help ease their stress and make their time
14:37
Speaker 8: at our shelter a little more enjoyable is through this
14:40
Speaker 8: doggy Diplomat program. With your doggy diplomat, you get them
14:44
Speaker 8: out for at least fifteen minutes a day, and you
14:46
Speaker 8: can take them on a walk. You can take them
14:48
Speaker 8: on your lunch break and get them you know, cheeseburger,
14:52
Speaker 8: a pup cuff, what have you. But just getting these
14:55
Speaker 8: dogs out, spending time with them once you have them
14:59
Speaker 8: to a level where you can earn their trust. It's
15:01
Speaker 8: also working on basic commands like sit, stay, things that
15:05
Speaker 8: will set them up for success in a home. So
15:08
Speaker 8: our staff do that. Our staff will love their doggy diplomats,
15:12
Speaker 8: and we also rely on them to give us more
15:15
Speaker 8: info about their diplomats, So like it's kind of hard
15:19
Speaker 8: as the social media person there to get to know,
15:22
Speaker 8: you know, all three hundred four hundred what have you
15:24
Speaker 8: of our animals? So with the doggy diplomat and the
15:28
Speaker 8: kiddy diplomats, it's much easier to you know, talk to
15:31
Speaker 8: somebody about these pets and relay that message to potential adopters.
15:35
Speaker 3: All right, what are you in need of up there?
15:36
Speaker 3: I mean it's kind of the same thing every week.
15:38
Speaker 3: Was there anything that you're specially in need of this
15:41
Speaker 3: week at the shelter as far as donations go.
15:44
Speaker 8: I know that we were running really low on don
15:46
Speaker 8: dishwashing liquid yesterday, and again it doesn't have to be done,
15:49
Speaker 8: just any dishwashing liquid. And I think dog wet food
15:54
Speaker 8: of any brand was another thing that we were pretty
15:56
Speaker 8: low on.
15:57
Speaker 3: All right, Are you out at about anywhere this weekend?
16:00
Speaker 8: Yes? So we're actually going to be participating in Be
16:03
Speaker 8: my Neighbor Day tomorrow at slack Plaza. I think it's
16:07
Speaker 8: from twelve to three around that area, So we will
16:11
Speaker 8: be down there with some adoptable puppies.
16:13
Speaker 3: All right, that sounds good? All right? And she's oh,
16:16
Speaker 3: I forgot. I have a text for you. You know
16:18
Speaker 3: you have a text. Wait on you. Every week. Texas
16:21
Speaker 3: saw Splash, who was one of the pups lefting in
16:24
Speaker 3: a box with his mom and siblings back in June
16:26
Speaker 3: on TV yesterday. He was adorable. Was wondering how those
16:29
Speaker 3: poor pups were doing that were found in the box
16:31
Speaker 3: in that heat. I know you said one was in
16:33
Speaker 3: critical condition. Please tell us they are doing well.
16:37
Speaker 8: So yeah, whenever they came in, two of them had
16:40
Speaker 8: passed away immediately upon entering the shelter. Then there was
16:45
Speaker 8: the one that kind of broke Facebook and her skin
16:48
Speaker 8: aspay of the details that she had extreme sunburn essentially,
16:53
Speaker 8: so she actually ended up succumbing to her injuries as well.
16:56
Speaker 8: But as for the rest of the puppies and mom,
16:59
Speaker 8: everyone has been doing fabulous. Everyone is now available for adoption.
17:04
Speaker 8: So if you see any puppy with a summer scenes
17:07
Speaker 8: name so like Splash, Sunflower, those kind of names, those
17:12
Speaker 8: are her puppies. And Slushy is the mama dog. Slushy
17:16
Speaker 8: is also one of the dogs that is very very
17:17
Speaker 8: stressed in the shelter. So if you have some sympathy
17:20
Speaker 8: in your heart for Mom and her pupps. They are
17:23
Speaker 8: all available for adoption and would love to be out.
17:25
Speaker 3: Of there all right. Hey, I appreciate you taking time
17:29
Speaker 3: to be here today. Thanks a lot, and we'll talk
17:31
Speaker 3: again next week.
17:32
Speaker 8: It sounds good.
17:33
Speaker 9: I have a good one.
17:34
Speaker 3: Angie gillenwaterkinon charst and you main association again. Hank is
17:38
Speaker 3: our dog this week. Hank is four years old, about
17:40
Speaker 3: sixty pounds. Came into a stray, great with kids. Other
17:43
Speaker 3: calm dogs, no problem there as well. He's a hound
17:47
Speaker 3: that they've not heard bark yet, so that's that's kind
17:51
Speaker 3: of different. But Bee, look, if you want a quiet dog,
17:53
Speaker 3: this might be the dog for you. And his adoption
17:55
Speaker 3: fee is waves so he is absolutely freeze, a very
17:58
Speaker 3: sweet dog, walks well on a lace. Perfect perfect dog.

20:22
Speaker 9: Hey there, I'm doing well.
20:23
Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Talk about the Mountain State Spotlight.
20:29
Speaker 3: For those that don't know what exactly is Mountain State.
20:31
Speaker 12: Spotlight, that's a really good place to start. We are
20:34
Speaker 12: a nonprofit newsroom or digital only. We produce about three
20:38
Speaker 12: stories a week. Deep investigations are our priority. We also
20:43
Speaker 12: cover the legislature pretty intensely. So we're not that not
20:49
Speaker 12: news outlet that's going to tell you that sixty four
20:51
Speaker 12: is shut down because of that right, yeah, of a wreck.
20:53
Speaker 12: But we're going to do the more intense investigative Why
20:57
Speaker 12: are there these issues. Let's get to their root, and
21:01
Speaker 12: let's get out there and talk to West Virginians and
21:03
Speaker 12: figure out what information they are.
21:04
Speaker 3: And I think you know what happens. This is so
21:06
Speaker 3: many times in the world of media, US and the
21:11
Speaker 3: folks at the TV stations and you know whatever, we
21:14
Speaker 3: get this all the time. Well, you guys need to
21:16
Speaker 3: look into this, and you guys need to and look,
21:19
Speaker 3: we're an award winning Marconi Award winning news operation here.
21:24
Speaker 3: We're pretty good at what we do. I think I
21:25
Speaker 3: can't take credit for it. I'm just a personality. I'm
21:28
Speaker 3: not a news person. And even the TV stations, to
21:31
Speaker 3: a certain extent, from time to time they'll do an
21:33
Speaker 3: investigative report, but primarily it's breaking news. It's sixty four
21:37
Speaker 3: is shut down, which by the way, it's not. I
21:39
Speaker 3: just want to know, it's day to day news whatever,
21:44
Speaker 3: and there's just not an opportunity because of lack of people,
21:48
Speaker 3: like of staff, like you know whatever, to sometimes break
21:51
Speaker 3: down into these deeper stories. And that's where I think
21:53
Speaker 3: it's so important from a journalism standpoint that we have
21:56
Speaker 3: an organization like yours. Let's go back over the history.
22:00
Speaker 3: But have you been there the entire time?
22:01
Speaker 9: I have not known. I wish I was. I wish
22:04
Speaker 9: I could say that.
22:05
Speaker 3: Got there as quickly as you could.
22:06
Speaker 12: Pretty much, Yeah, pretty much. I had my eye on
22:09
Speaker 12: us from the very beginning.
22:12
Speaker 3: Explain that What was it that interested you about Mountain
22:14
Speaker 3: States one.
22:14
Speaker 12: Yeah, I liked the concept that we go to West Virginians,
22:20
Speaker 12: ask them what they want to know, go away to
22:23
Speaker 12: our little holes of a reporting room, do that work,
22:27
Speaker 12: and then bring it back to the people. And so
22:29
Speaker 12: we are not trying to decide what's important for West Virginians.
22:33
Speaker 12: We're letting them tell us, and then we're going to
22:35
Speaker 12: go do the work because we have the resources in
22:37
Speaker 12: the time, and that's our whole job, and these other
22:39
Speaker 12: people have whole other jobs that they don't.
22:41
Speaker 3: I mean, you look in there is a there's is
22:44
Speaker 3: in the world of media landscape, which you know has
22:47
Speaker 3: never been bigger than it is now. There's room for
22:50
Speaker 3: everybody and everything. And even though you know sometimes we
22:54
Speaker 3: compete for ad dollars and things of that nature, I
22:57
Speaker 3: mean we work in this organization, we work hand in
23:00
Speaker 3: hand with with the TV stations in the here, we
23:03
Speaker 3: work hand in hand sometimes, you know, with the UH,
23:06
Speaker 3: with the news UH, with the newspapers, and with folks
23:10
Speaker 3: like you, because look, we need we all need each other,
23:13
Speaker 3: because because because we all do different things. Over that
23:17
Speaker 3: five years, I know you've not been there, Lauren the
23:19
Speaker 3: entire time, but over that five years, talk about some
23:22
Speaker 3: of the bigger stories that have been covered either you've covered,
23:26
Speaker 3: or the or the or the I keep calling it
23:29
Speaker 3: a publication because I'm old. You know the news source
23:33
Speaker 3: has covered. Talk about some of the bigger stories.
23:34
Speaker 12: Well, first, let me go back and say that I
23:36
Speaker 12: fully agree with you, and to me it sounds so
23:40
Speaker 12: flitty floaty whatever, But to me, there's no competition, only collaborators,
23:45
Speaker 12: and so we're we're all working towards the same goal,
23:49
Speaker 12: which is to just keep people informed. And thank goodness,
23:51
Speaker 12: folks like you, folks like the news stations are able
23:53
Speaker 12: to do that breaking news, because that's just not what
23:56
Speaker 12: our focus is. We have a different focus, and so
23:57
Speaker 12: that's fine some of our bigger stories. I mean so
24:03
Speaker 12: luckily for the rest of our team. I am not
24:04
Speaker 12: a reporter. I am our development office, so I do
24:07
Speaker 12: our fundraising. We have such a fantastic reporting staff that
24:13
Speaker 12: gets in there, and we've covered a lot of the
24:15
Speaker 12: flooding that's happened, especially in the past year, but definitely
24:20
Speaker 12: that's the flood recovery and then the incoming floods that happen.
24:25
Speaker 9: Since twenty sixteen.
24:27
Speaker 12: We're talking about broadband, we're talking about all this relevant
24:31
Speaker 12: day to day the things that you're talking around around
24:34
Speaker 12: your dinner table. We last year, around the election, put
24:38
Speaker 12: together the Citizen's Agenda for West Virginia. So we went
24:41
Speaker 12: to all fifty five counties. Our reporters put something like
24:44
Speaker 12: over ten thousand miles on their cars or something like that,
24:47
Speaker 12: went to all fifty five counties, talked to West Virginians
24:50
Speaker 12: wanted to know what they needed to know in order
24:54
Speaker 12: to make an informed voting decision. And so we put
24:58
Speaker 12: together a voter guide on every single candidate running at
25:03
Speaker 12: any level down to the county.
25:04
Speaker 3: Level, and these things and these voter guys, they are
25:06
Speaker 3: not necessarily endorsements or anything like that. They're just basically
25:10
Speaker 3: what you what the public has asked about these candidates,
25:15
Speaker 3: and this is how he or she feels on this
25:17
Speaker 3: subject or on that subject or exactly. Yeah.
25:20
Speaker 12: It's if nothing else, the farthest thing from an endorsement possible.
25:23
Speaker 12: It is just the facts and it is Hey, the
25:26
Speaker 12: people in your county want to fix the potholes.
25:29
Speaker 9: What are you going to do about that? And then the.
25:31
Speaker 12: Person answers the question or they don't answer, and then
25:35
Speaker 12: we just publish exactly what they say, no commentary, and
25:38
Speaker 12: then we give it back to the people in those
25:40
Speaker 12: counties and then they can make a decision on who
25:42
Speaker 12: to vote for based on that. So that was that
25:44
Speaker 12: was one of our biggest things last year for sure.
25:46
Speaker 3: Lauren Hatcher from a Mountain State Spotlight This year of
25:49
Speaker 3: a Dave Allen Show on five eighty line, brought to
25:50
Speaker 3: you part by Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air quality can
25:53

25:56
Speaker 3: a bunch more. Pinnacle can offer specialized indoor air quality
25:59
Speaker 3: serve as residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Check out Pinnacle
26:03
Speaker 3: Corp dot net. Because what you don't know can hurt you.
26:05
Speaker 3: You mentioned the funding of that. Where does the funding
26:08
Speaker 3: come from for this?
26:09
Speaker 12: Yeah, so that's another great question. That's where we're the
26:12
Speaker 12: nonprofit part of us comes into play, and a lot
26:15
Speaker 12: of people, I think maybe don't realize either that we
26:17
Speaker 12: are a nonprofit or what that really means. And so
26:21
Speaker 12: that means we are at the absolute root of it,
26:26
Speaker 12: for the people, by the people, and so we are
26:28
Speaker 12: funded by the people that we see in Kroger. We
26:31
Speaker 12: have people that send us monthly donations just like you
26:35
Speaker 12: would any other nonprofit, or annual donations or any level
26:40
Speaker 12: of tax deductible donation. And we also have national grant
26:43
Speaker 12: funders because again like most nonprofits, we are grant funded
26:46
Speaker 12: as well. And so we again, this is our fifth birthday.
26:53
Speaker 12: We are next Wednesday, the seventeenth, that'll be five years
26:56
Speaker 12: that we have existed, and we've never done a fundraising
26:58
Speaker 12: event before, okay, and so we're trying it out and
27:01
Speaker 12: it'll be next Thursday, the eighteenth, and.
27:06
Speaker 9: It's a new endeavor for us.
27:07
Speaker 3: And where will that be?
27:08
Speaker 12: Yeah, So it's happening at the McFarland Hubbard House thanks
27:10
Speaker 12: to the Western Humanities Council, folks, they've been great partners
27:15
Speaker 12: in making this event come to life. So we're really
27:17
Speaker 12: excited to have it in a place that feels very
27:21
Speaker 12: West Virginia because I'm not sure if you're familiar with
27:24
Speaker 12: that home, but it's a historically recognized home and beautiful
27:27
Speaker 12: has a lot of rich history of Charleston and West Virginia.
27:32
Speaker 3: Right, So, and again we'll give you more information about
27:39
Speaker 3: the celebration and the gathering, the fundraising event if you will,
27:41
Speaker 3: coming up in just a little bit. But how did
27:44
Speaker 3: you how did you get involved in this? You said
27:45
Speaker 3: you hadn't been there all five years. You said that
27:47
Speaker 3: you're also not a reporter, that you're more on the
27:49
Speaker 3: development side. Talk about you. How'd you get involved in.
27:53
Speaker 12: Well, like I said, so, I've been in Charleston now
27:55
Speaker 12: over five years. So I'm originally from Blacksburg, Virginia.
27:59
Speaker 3: Okay, other Virginia home of the Hokies. Yeah boo, not
28:03
Speaker 3: a Virginia tech.
28:04
Speaker 12: Not a Virginia Tech person, all right, despite one of
28:07
Speaker 12: my brothers being there as a student right now, not
28:09
Speaker 12: a Virginia Tech person. No, I'm excited for the backyard
28:13
Speaker 12: brawl this weekend.
28:14
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, but yeah.
28:16
Speaker 12: Originally from Blacksburg, Virginia. Went to college up in Buchanan
28:20
Speaker 12: at West Virginia Wesleyange.
28:21
Speaker 3: One of my favorite I just had the president of
28:24
Speaker 3: Wesleyan on the show last week, one of my favorite people.
28:26
Speaker 9: I love James.
28:26
Speaker 12: He's a good friend of mine. Yeah, he's a great guy.
28:29
Speaker 12: Such a good guy.
28:30
Speaker 9: A lot of great things, oh my goodness, doing such
28:32
Speaker 9: great there.
28:33
Speaker 3: And a beautiful campus. I mean it's classic. I mean
28:35
Speaker 3: I've spent time on campus because we have a partnership
28:38
Speaker 3: with them for the Westervirginian Scholar Program, uh and which
28:41
Speaker 3: we're very very proud of. But that the campus that
28:44
Speaker 3: if you're happy to be in Buchanan, especially if it's fall,
28:48
Speaker 3: you know, grab a parking spot and just just walk
28:51
Speaker 3: around campus.
28:52
Speaker 12: It's a beautiful sing by Stone Tower downtown, get a
28:55
Speaker 12: cup of coffee and then walk around campus.
28:57
Speaker 3: Beautiful it is. It is. But sorry, I kind of go, oh, no,
29:00
Speaker 3: it's fine.
29:01
Speaker 9: I all got on tangents to talk about Wesley and
29:03
Speaker 9: all the time. I love it.
29:04
Speaker 12: But yeah, So went to school up there and then
29:06
Speaker 12: moved down here to Charleston about five years ago. Have
29:08
Speaker 12: been here ever since and had had my eyes on
29:12
Speaker 12: Mountain Stay spotlight as I saw them formulating who they
29:16
Speaker 12: were in the state and kind of they came to be.
29:20
Speaker 12: Ken Ward Junior, previously of the Gazette, started this organization
29:28
Speaker 12: and just hit the ground running trying to make sure
29:31
Speaker 12: that West Virginians not only had the news that they needed,
29:34
Speaker 12: the information that they needed, but that he was creating
29:37
Speaker 12: an organization that matched those values as well. And so
29:40
Speaker 12: we prioritize reporter pay, we prioritize benefitally, I mean all
29:45
Speaker 12: of that. We just we want to be not only
29:47
Speaker 12: a place that is making West Virginia better, but is
29:50
Speaker 12: a good place to work as well, and it's fantastic.
29:52
Speaker 3: One thing that our organization and all I think news
29:56
Speaker 3: organizations kind of struggle with from time to time, is
30:00
Speaker 3: that especially with getting young people to go into this
30:05
Speaker 3: because it's with the with social media, Lauren being what
30:09
Speaker 3: it is now, everybody is a reporter. That's not always good.
30:13
Speaker 3: That's not always good because and again I'm not a reporter.
30:16
Speaker 3: I have been. I've been a news director of a
30:18
Speaker 3: radio station, but it's not what I do now. But
30:21
Speaker 3: we are trained on how to do certain things, especially
30:24
Speaker 3: when it comes to breaking is, which I know you
30:25
Speaker 3: guys don't do. You know, you don't just go on
30:27
Speaker 3: the air with something You've You've got to be able
30:29
Speaker 3: to have a you know, you got to verify, verify
30:33
Speaker 3: three three sources, that sort of thing. Sometimes not everybody
30:36
Speaker 3: does it on social media. But my point is, my
30:38
Speaker 3: point is is that it's difficult sometimes to find people
30:42
Speaker 3: that are that are going into things like what we
30:46
Speaker 3: do for a living, and even even a again I
30:49
Speaker 3: keep calling it a publication.
30:50
Speaker 9: Just just it could.
30:52
Speaker 3: Just bear with me. Even with an organization like yours,
30:55
Speaker 3: I would imagine sometimes it's it's difficult to find people.
30:59
Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean, and that's something that we talk about
31:01
Speaker 12: all the time, just in terms of the state, I mean,
31:03
Speaker 12: where constantly that's a lens that we have to look
31:07
Speaker 12: at all of our stories through, is the fact that
31:09
Speaker 12: the general population of West Virginia is older. It's something
31:13
Speaker 12: that I've been passionate about. I Mean, I like to
31:16
Speaker 12: joke that I'm a West Virginian by choice.
31:19
Speaker 3: Trust me. We need more people to be West Virginia's
31:21
Speaker 3: by so we need West Virginians to remain West Virginian story.
31:25
Speaker 8: Yeah.
31:26
Speaker 12: So it's I mean, it's definitely a challenge that I
31:29
Speaker 12: feel like everybody is facing. Definitely us as the news
31:33
Speaker 12: and media world, but just everybody is facing the struggle
31:37
Speaker 12: of finding a way to entice young people to not
31:40
Speaker 12: only be here, but stay here. That's something I cared
31:43
Speaker 12: about a lot having come to school here. I didn't
31:45
Speaker 12: want to just come in and then fly back out.
31:47
Speaker 12: I wanted this to be a place that I was
31:51
Speaker 12: able to invest my energy and care in because it
31:55
Speaker 12: held me and invested energy and careen to me when
31:58
Speaker 12: I was here.
31:58
Speaker 9: And so.
32:00
Speaker 12: I think we feel lucky to have found several different
32:05
Speaker 12: interns that have turned into staff members. We talk a
32:08
Speaker 12: lot with a lot of the journalism schools, both WU
32:11
Speaker 12: and Marshall. I mean, we feel lucky to have those
32:14
Speaker 12: connections across the state that find us the people that
32:19
Speaker 12: need to find us.
32:20
Speaker 9: If that makes I.
32:21
Speaker 3: Want to and we'll wrap it up here because I
32:23
Speaker 3: know you've got things to do, and I want to
32:24
Speaker 3: make sure we give all the details and everything about
32:27
Speaker 3: your event next week. But your story fascinates me because
32:31
Speaker 3: again it's somebody not from West Virginia. You chose to
32:34
Speaker 3: go to school in West Virginia at Wesleyan, then you
32:37
Speaker 3: chose Charleston. And we need so many of these stories
32:40
Speaker 3: because all we hear is people are fleeing West Virginia
32:43
Speaker 3: right and left. You're somebody who's not Did you have
32:46
Speaker 3: ties to this area at all? I mean family, not
32:48
Speaker 3: Charleston specifically.
32:49
Speaker 12: I have grandparents in Bluefield and Buchanan. It's the Wesleyan,
32:53
Speaker 12: but no, not Charleston.
32:54
Speaker 3: I just okay. But you chose to come to go
32:57
Speaker 3: to school here, and you chose to stay here. You've
32:59
Speaker 3: chose to make a life here. How do we talk
33:02
Speaker 3: to a lot more younger people about wanting to do
33:06
Speaker 3: what you did, whether it's somebody who's from West Virginia
33:10
Speaker 3: or somebody like you who chose West Virgina. How do
33:14
Speaker 3: we how do we sell that? How do you sell
33:17
Speaker 3: people on what you experience have made you who are
33:20
Speaker 3: from Blacksburg, Virginia want to stay in West Virginia.
33:25
Speaker 12: I hate to use this answer, but it's just the people.
33:27
Speaker 12: You meet, the right people, and you fall in love.
33:29
Speaker 12: You see the way that they view the state, whether
33:33
Speaker 12: they're from here or not. The grit and the resiliency
33:38
Speaker 12: of West Virginians is something that I respect and admire
33:42
Speaker 12: so much and want to continue to like push people
33:45
Speaker 12: for it. It's I kind of like to think about
33:47
Speaker 12: it as like I'm fresh blood. I haven't had to
33:50
Speaker 12: deal with all of the struggles that so many West
33:53
Speaker 12: Virginians have had to deal with for so long, and
33:55
Speaker 12: so I can come in with some renewed energy because
33:57
Speaker 12: I'm a newbie. I've only been in the state nine
34:00
Speaker 12: years now, and so I still I'm not jaded. I
34:03
Speaker 12: have the energy to continue creating the world that that
34:08
Speaker 12: we want to have for these young people and encourage
34:10
Speaker 12: them to be here. I think as as much as
34:13
Speaker 12: we want to sell it and it's beautiful and we
34:15
Speaker 12: can post the pictures of the gorge and it's stunning it,
34:18
Speaker 12: we can draw people here.
34:19
Speaker 9: But in order to get people to stay, you have
34:21
Speaker 9: to you gotta.
34:22
Speaker 12: Pay them, you gotta care for them, you gotta find
34:26
Speaker 12: your community, you gotta uh get just get them invested.
34:32
Speaker 12: You get invested. You gotta let people know that they
34:36
Speaker 12: they care about you be in here. I mean it
34:41
Speaker 12: if if I were to leave, I know people would
34:43
Speaker 12: be upset, and I don't know if other people, like
34:45
Speaker 12: just my friends, and I don't know if other people
34:47
Speaker 12: would feel that way. And so you just got to
34:48
Speaker 12: find the way to invest in people, and you gotta
34:51
Speaker 12: find the way to help help them feel like they're
34:55
Speaker 12: part of something and they're part of the community, and
34:59
Speaker 12: just really, like I said, invest in them.
35:01
Speaker 3: All right, talk about your gathering next week.
35:04
Speaker 9: Yeah, So September eighteenth, Thursday.
35:09
Speaker 12: It is a donor event and it's no gala, it's
35:12
Speaker 12: no sit down chicken dinner. It is casual, it is celebratory.
35:17
Speaker 12: I mean, we are just simply giddy and excited to
35:20
Speaker 12: be here after five years being able to provide information
35:25
Speaker 12: to West Virginians. I mean, we hear stories every day.
35:28
Speaker 12: Without you all, we wouldn't have the information.
35:30
Speaker 3: That we have and remind people where they can get
35:32
Speaker 3: said information.
35:33
Speaker 12: So all that information can be found on our Facebook,
35:36
Speaker 12: on our website, mountsday Spotlight dot org, mount Stay Spotlight
35:40
Speaker 12: on Facebook. It'll be six to eight tickets at thirty
35:44
Speaker 12: five dollars. But we also have a pay what you
35:46
Speaker 12: can option because all of our reporting is free and
35:49
Speaker 12: so we want to make sure our events are also
35:51
Speaker 12: accessible to everybody else and no paywalls, right, no paywalls
35:54
Speaker 12: at all.
35:55
Speaker 3: That's a very important thing. And I want to make
35:58
Speaker 3: sure that people realize that they can go check out
35:59
Speaker 3: your public not just when you're having this gala and
36:02
Speaker 3: this fundraiser.
36:04
Speaker 9: Yeah, we have a weekly newsletter.
36:05
Speaker 12: During session, we have a daily newsletter, so we really
36:08
Speaker 12: try to get the information to people as fast as
36:10
Speaker 12: we can.
36:10

36:42
Speaker 3: President Trump was actually the first person that came out
36:44
Speaker 3: and said that there was a suspect in custody. The
36:48
Speaker 3: FBI is scheduled soon to do an update on this. Apparently,
36:54

Speaker 16: fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk.
40:31
Speaker 17: President Trump on Fox News Friday morning said law enforcement
40:33
Speaker 17: officials have a person in custody in the shooting of
40:36
Speaker 17: conservative activists Charlie Kirk.
40:38
Speaker 3: I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him.
40:42
Speaker 17: We're in custody, the president leader said this at.
40:45
Speaker 3: The bottom line is they have somebody that they think
40:49
Speaker 3: did it.
40:50
Speaker 17: Ask for details about how this developed, the President said,
40:52
Speaker 17: quote somebody that was very close to him turned him in.

Speaker 17: Karen travers ABC News Washington.
40:58
Speaker 16: To Cespierre Thomas says video of the suspected gunman released

41:30
Speaker 3: the FBI is supposed to speak here momentarily. I'm gonna
41:34
Speaker 3: gohead and guess probably around ten, because you know it's
41:36
Speaker 3: the FBI. They like to have whole numbers, So I'm
41:38
Speaker 3: going to guess probably around ten or something like that.
41:40
Speaker 3: And again, Wilson and Meadows will be covering that on
41:44
Speaker 3: talk Line and we'll come back with it on Metro
41:46

48:08
Speaker 3: brewing and again top of the hour, ABC News will
48:11
Speaker 3: have more on the Charlie Kirk assassin and assassin apparently
48:15
Speaker 3: has been apprehended twenty two year old. We're hearing from
48:18
Speaker 3: Utah and folks including President Trump are saying that the
48:23
Speaker 3: guy's father actually was the one who talked him into confessing,
48:27
Speaker 3: apparently after the weapon was recovered. And you know, it's
48:30
Speaker 3: just a matter of time. So there's going to be
48:31
Speaker 3: a briefing covet up soon and we'll have more in
48:33
Speaker 3: that with ABC News. But there's some other controversy right now.
48:36
Speaker 3: I want to talk about Delegate Anitra Hamilton, and I
48:39
Speaker 3: think talk line boys are going to get in this
48:41
Speaker 3: a little bit dead. A post on social media that's
48:43
Speaker 3: getting a lot, a lot of blowback. I'm going to
48:48
Speaker 3: paraphrase the post, and I appreciate a texture who sent
48:50
Speaker 3: this in here. America continues to be accustomed to individuals
48:53
Speaker 3: of notable reputation and those of no known nature. It's
48:56
Speaker 3: viewing racism and performing acts of discrimination. Speaking words of
49:00
Speaker 3: racist nature is not your first Amendment right, but are
49:03
Speaker 3: acts of domestic terrorism upon the souls of the American people.
49:07
Speaker 3: There are no skill sets that compare you or protect
49:10
Speaker 3: you from racism. And for the people who find respect
49:12
Speaker 3: for the work of racist people in lieu of their racism,
49:15
Speaker 3: by the way she's spilled in lou of wrong, for
49:18
Speaker 3: people who only see religion but not the structure of
49:21
Speaker 3: racism and discrimination that was carried in on the back
49:24
Speaker 3: of it. And for the people who are practicing against
49:26
Speaker 3: political violence and will not acknowledge the overt and covert
49:29
Speaker 3: expressions and demonstrations of racism. Whether you're Republican's Democrat and
49:33
Speaker 3: the new hiding place of independence, we see you. You
49:36
Speaker 3: have done nothing all that talking and have done nothing.
49:39
Speaker 7: You do.
49:40
Speaker 3: You don't create spaces of debate by being racist, especially
49:43
Speaker 3: when everyone debating is white and you're speaking in places
49:46
Speaker 3: where the African American population is one point three six percent.
49:51
Speaker 3: And she ends with saying thank you for attending my
49:53
Speaker 3: ted talk. That's from Delegate Nitra Hamilton, and a lot
49:58
Speaker 3: of folks take an issue with that, and yeah, there's
50:03
Speaker 3: there gonna be some controversy. I think that's going to
50:05
Speaker 3: come out of that. There already has been as a
50:07
Speaker 3: matter of fact. But Dave Allan showing five Ady Live

50:15
Speaker 3: If you missed Senator Jim Justice interview with Wilson to
50:18
Speaker 3: Meadows and talk line yesterday, oh my, it was a
50:20
Speaker 3: good one. Brad mclahenny writes about at wv metronews dot com.
50:25
Speaker 3: It's the lead story as a matter of fact this morning.
50:27
Speaker 3: And you'll recall that when Governor Justice, Governor den Governor
50:32
Speaker 3: Justice veto to bill that would have loosened West Virginia's
50:37
Speaker 3: mandatory school vaccinations. So he was on talk line, the
50:42
Speaker 3: senator was yesterday, Senator Justice, and was asked what he
50:47
Speaker 3: thought of the current battle over vaccine mandates for school
50:50
Speaker 3: kids playing out in court. He calls it quote plane
50:54
Speaker 3: out and out nuts quote now direct quote. The CDC
51:00
Speaker 3: has been around a long time. The vaccines are proven
51:03
Speaker 3: in every way. You know where I stood when I
51:06
Speaker 3: was your governor. President Trump stands with me in regards
51:10
Speaker 3: to the vaccine, etc. Etc.
51:12
Speaker 2: Etc.
51:14
Speaker 3: And the terms end quote. And when I took away
51:17
Speaker 3: and I listened to this intently set it in my
51:18
Speaker 3: desk yesterday. What I took away from this and the
51:23
Speaker 3: way that the government threw it out there, the governor,
51:27
Speaker 3: the senator, former governor threw it out there. I'm just
51:31
Speaker 3: gonna speculate, and I've had no one on ones with
51:34
Speaker 3: Jim Justice. I think he wants to be governor again.
51:37
Speaker 3: I really do, and I'm certainly not alone in that.
51:40
Speaker 3: I am told he has told people in private that yes,
51:44
Speaker 3: he does want to be governor again. And I don't
51:47
Speaker 3: think it hurts him any. When you think about the
51:50
Speaker 3: West Virginia pole that came out of it would be
51:54
Speaker 3: I guess what two weeks ago today that said, among
51:57
Speaker 3: other things, that West Virginian, many of whom supported Jim
52:03
Speaker 3: Justice in the past say that then Governor Jim Justice
52:07
Speaker 3: was the best governor of their lifetime. I think that
52:10
Speaker 3: does nothing but fuel the fire to be honest with
52:14
Speaker 3: you a little bit. And I'm I'm told that now
52:17
Speaker 3: Senator Justice wants to be Governor Justice. Now he did
52:20
Speaker 3: say he did say he wishes he called him Patrick.
52:23
Speaker 3: I do wish Patrick the best. But I'm I'm hearing
52:25
Speaker 3: what I'm hearing. There is that yeah, that I think
52:29
Speaker 3: he wants to be He wants to be governor again.
