- 0:00Speaker 1: And Dave.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Very good morning too, all of you. Welcome to the
- 0:02Speaker 2: kfab comment line. I am your host, Gene Stothard and
- 0:06Speaker 2: Peyton Hilock. My producer is at the doctor's office. So
- 0:09Speaker 2: guess who is sitting over there at the soundboard today,
- 0:14Speaker 2: Scott Morhes, Thanks for being here.
- 0:16Speaker 3: I didn't guess. I already had a pretty good d I.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Think he already had a good idea. But thank you
- 0:21Speaker 2: all for being with us today. Hopefully Peyton will be
- 0:23Speaker 2: back soon. It's time to give Scott time off. I
- 0:26Speaker 2: think you've been here since midnight or something, but we
- 0:29Speaker 2: really want to hear from you, get your feedback, hear
- 0:32Speaker 2: your comments, concerns, questions, complaint, anything goes. We won't back
- 0:36Speaker 2: away from anything, whether it's city, state, national, or the world.
- 0:40Speaker 2: And we will have great guests, which we have a
- 0:42Speaker 2: great guest this morning, and you're going to hear a
- 0:44Speaker 2: lot of opinions from me too. But it's your chance
- 0:47Speaker 2: to speak up and sound off, so you could send
- 0:49Speaker 2: your emails to comment at kfab dot com or you
- 0:53Speaker 2: can call us at four two five five eight eleven ten.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We are happy that you are with us today, and
- 0:58Speaker 2: we are also very happy be from Washington, d C.
- 1:01Speaker 2: We have Congressman Don Bacon on the line today. Good
- 1:04Speaker 2: morning Congressman, Good morning Mayor.
- 1:08Speaker 4: And you're doing great on the radio. So it's good
- 1:10Speaker 4: to hear your voice.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Oh gee, thanks, Well, this is fun. I love coming
- 1:13Speaker 2: in here every day. It's a lot of fun. But
- 1:16Speaker 2: wanted to get you to talk to you since you
- 1:18Speaker 2: obviously are not running for the second District congressional seat.
- 1:22Speaker 2: And the election is over, and it looks like Denise
- 1:26Speaker 2: pal declared victory in a very tight race last night,
- 1:29Speaker 2: although there is still about nine seven hundred votes to
- 1:33Speaker 2: count according to the Douglas County Election Commissioner. Usually that
- 1:37Speaker 2: we know this from us being in elections before, that
- 1:40Speaker 2: trend usually stays about the same. So she's already claimed victory.
- 1:45Speaker 2: So I just want to get your your thoughts on
- 1:48Speaker 2: this race, especially, but on some of the other races
- 1:51Speaker 2: too in Nebraska. So any thoughts you want to start
- 1:54Speaker 2: out with with with blue dot Denise now being the
- 1:58Speaker 2: opponent of Brinkerhart.
- 2:01Speaker 4: You know, my guess was what I didn't have good polling.
- 2:04Speaker 4: I thought she was probably gonna win. I could just
- 2:07Speaker 4: tell the last two weeks she was campaigning with confidence
- 2:11Speaker 4: and mister Kavanaugh seemed to be in a little bit
- 2:14Speaker 4: of a panic mode. And I didn't appreciate the anti Israel,
- 2:17Speaker 4: anti Jewish themes that he was putting out, trying to
- 2:21Speaker 4: hit Denise Powell on on that, and I just think
- 2:25Speaker 4: that's sort of a desperate move. So my guess was
- 2:27Speaker 4: they must have saw polling that he was behind. I'm
- 2:29Speaker 4: thinking so I saw guess that he was going to win,
- 2:32Speaker 4: and I would I find it interesting. I've talked to
- 2:34Speaker 4: a lot of different experts and it was pretty divided.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Half the people preferred running against mister Kavanaugh, half the
- 2:41Speaker 4: people preferred running against Denise Powell. The pros and cons.
- 2:45Speaker 4: You know my view. You know, mister Kavanaugh has a
- 2:48Speaker 4: lot of bad votes in the unicameral make it easy
- 2:50Speaker 4: to run TV ads. But conversely, you know a lot
- 2:54Speaker 4: of folks think that missus Powell has has very left
- 2:58Speaker 4: the center in the Bernie Sanders, that's the perception, and
- 3:02Speaker 4: that doesn't really play well in district too. I think
- 3:05Speaker 4: a modern Democrat with some moderation on abortion is a
- 3:09Speaker 4: tough opponent for a Republican, but she's, from what I
- 3:13Speaker 4: could tell, pretty weft to center. The Berry Sanders Camp
- 3:16Speaker 4: and I don't think and like the most recent nominees
- 3:19Speaker 4: on the Democrats side, no exceptions, you know, no restrictions
- 3:23Speaker 4: are on abortion even eight nine months, and that doesn't
- 3:26Speaker 4: play well in the district. That's how you win the middle.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Our district thirty eight percent Republican, thirty six percent Democrat
- 3:31Speaker 4: and the rest independent. So you got to win some
- 3:33Speaker 4: swing voters to win this. But most people in the
- 3:36Speaker 4: district are not extremists on abortion for example, just one
- 3:39Speaker 4: of many examples, right, And you.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Know, it seems to me looking at her campaign ads.
- 3:44Speaker 2: First of all, when they started out with I'm a
- 3:47Speaker 2: pod mom, I thought to myself immediately, that's all we
- 3:51Speaker 2: need in Washington, d C. Is another angry person. But
- 3:54Speaker 2: it does seem like her whole campaign was based on,
- 3:57Speaker 2: like you said, being pro choice and the blue dot.
- 4:01Speaker 2: And it seemed like besides those two issues, she didn't
- 4:05Speaker 2: bring up a lot more about what she wanted to
- 4:07Speaker 2: do for congressional district too.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Do you agree, Well, she had over five million dollars
- 4:13Speaker 4: in outside money that really helped her, and they did
- 4:16Speaker 4: go after a if John Kavanaugh wins the congressional seat.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Nova Pillow and we'll get to replace that. Right now,
- 4:23Speaker 4: we have a thirty three sixteen advantage Republicans versus Democrats
- 4:26Speaker 4: and the unicameral, which is a filibuster proof majority. But
- 4:30Speaker 4: we've always had one Republican not necessarily cooperate with that,
- 4:33Speaker 4: but one more. We've been able to do a lot
- 4:36Speaker 4: of a lot more, whether it's redistricting, the winner take Hall,
- 4:41Speaker 4: or abortion. That was I think that was about ninety
- 4:44Speaker 4: percent of her race.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And you know you're absolutely true on that. I mean,
- 4:49Speaker 2: it seemed like it really hit home with a lot
- 4:51Speaker 2: of people when her main point she was trying to
- 4:54Speaker 2: make is if against somebody at her own party, Cavanaugh
- 4:58Speaker 2: is to say, if he was the choice in the nominee,
- 5:02Speaker 2: then Pillen is going to appoint a Republican to replace him.
- 5:06Speaker 2: But what people weren't really thinking of what you just
- 5:09Speaker 2: said that it already is an advantage of the Republicans
- 5:12Speaker 2: over the Democrats. There will be more Democrats probably elected
- 5:16Speaker 2: to the legislature, but there will be other Republicans elected.
- 5:19Speaker 2: But it seemed like that point of view with her
- 5:22Speaker 2: really did resonate with people.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Now it did well as it was about ninety percent
- 5:28Speaker 4: of her messaging and then he also had It was
- 5:31Speaker 4: interesting because one of the Republican groups initially put out
- 5:35Speaker 4: an ad saying that mister Kavanaugh supported some of the
- 5:39Speaker 4: policies that Trump did on the taxes, and then so
- 5:43Speaker 4: the Democrats played on that as well. That was probably
- 5:45Speaker 4: the other five or ten percent right there, But that
- 5:47Speaker 4: was pretty much the campaign, at least on the Denise
- 5:50Speaker 4: Powell side. And you know, my view of it was
- 5:54Speaker 4: a Senator Kavanaugh. He is there's like three senators in
- 6:00Speaker 4: the unicameral. They're so love to start. They're the extremists,
- 6:03Speaker 4: even beyond the other Democrats, He's one of them. I
- 6:06Speaker 4: thought i'd been easy to pick apart his voting record. Yes,
- 6:10Speaker 4: but you know what, there's other people disagreed with me.
- 6:12Speaker 4: That was funny. I don't have the numbers. I just
- 6:15Speaker 4: I operate sometimes my gut feeling. But my gut feeling says, man,
- 6:19Speaker 4: there's one hundred votes to pick from here. If you're
- 6:22Speaker 4: trying to, you know, do opposition research on center Kavanaugh right,
- 6:26Speaker 4: And you.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Know, I mean that's so true because when you have
- 6:29Speaker 2: been elected before and you have a voting record, that's
- 6:32Speaker 2: the one thing your opponent is always going to pick
- 6:34Speaker 2: at you about and attack you about. However, with Denise Powell,
- 6:39Speaker 2: with her commercials, the one thing that I kept on
- 6:42Speaker 2: thinking is if you would look at her or listen
- 6:45Speaker 2: to her commercials. She has been this leader in this
- 6:48Speaker 2: area in Omaha and this whole area for years and
- 6:52Speaker 2: years and years now on all these issues. And I've
- 6:55Speaker 2: never heard of her before. And you know, I guess
- 6:58Speaker 2: she's as a mayor. I would out and about and
- 7:00Speaker 2: around everywhere, and I had never heard of her.
- 7:04Speaker 4: For the on the Democrats, for all the referendums. You know,
- 7:08Speaker 4: she was the person behind the curtain a lot of times,
- 7:11Speaker 4: pulling the switches like Wizard of Oz and so she was,
- 7:14Speaker 4: you know, she was. She's got access to big donors
- 7:17Speaker 4: in the district that are you know, absolutely on the
- 7:20Speaker 4: Democrats side, left the center, and so that was an advantage.
- 7:25Speaker 4: And I would say it's also very hard if someone's
- 7:28Speaker 4: ever run for office before or been positioned, it's really
- 7:31Speaker 4: hard to pin them down on some positions because they
- 7:34Speaker 4: can be fuzzy. They've never had to take votes. And
- 7:36Speaker 4: I found that, you know, I had to deal with
- 7:38Speaker 4: that a little bit with Kyra Eastman, right, because she
- 7:41Speaker 4: didn't have a voting record effect, but she was very
- 7:44Speaker 4: vocal by what she believed, so she made it.
- 7:47Speaker 5: Lady.
- 7:48Speaker 4: We'll see what. We'll see how missus Powell, how she
- 7:51Speaker 4: handles herself on the issues.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Well, I know.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Another issue that's disappointing to both me and you is
- 7:56Speaker 2: once again, the voter turnout was twenty eight person, twenty
- 8:01Speaker 2: eight percent, and when I ran for mayor the last
- 8:04Speaker 2: time last May, twenty eight percent. That's that's really really
- 8:09Speaker 2: disappointing to us because we know this that the Democrats
- 8:13Speaker 2: are energized. They wanted the mayor seat in Omaha, they
- 8:18Speaker 2: want this congressional seat. So let's look forward now between
- 8:21Speaker 2: now and November. What do you see happening, especially with
- 8:26Speaker 2: Breaker Harding's campaign for Breaker Herding.
- 8:29Speaker 4: His goal is he's got to win those swing voters,
- 8:31Speaker 4: independent voters, and that's how I was able to win,
- 8:35Speaker 4: you know, the last three elections of maybe last four elections,
- 8:39Speaker 4: actually is that like for example, President Trump lost her
- 8:44Speaker 4: district at twenty twenty and I he lost it by
- 8:47Speaker 4: six I wanted by two. That's quite a lot of
- 8:50Speaker 4: vote's difference, right, yes. And then twenty twenty four he
- 8:53Speaker 4: lost by five and I won by one point eight
- 8:56Speaker 4: something like that, and so it's very important that Breaker
- 9:00Speaker 4: is able to win these swing mid voters. I think
- 9:02Speaker 4: there's an opportunity there because the Democrats have once again
- 9:05Speaker 4: nominated a very left of center candidate, and that leaves
- 9:08Speaker 4: that middle open and that's that's going to be the
- 9:10Speaker 4: key to this race. Now on the other side of it,
- 9:12Speaker 4: they're going to make President Trump the focus because he's
- 9:15Speaker 4: probably sitting around thirty five to thirty eight percent favorables
- 9:19Speaker 4: in the district, and that's going to be their their
- 9:22Speaker 4: tactical strategy. And you know, I've always said when I
- 9:25Speaker 4: when I agree with the President, i agree with them,
- 9:27Speaker 4: and I don't mind. I'll stand by it. If I disagree,
- 9:29Speaker 4: I'll speak up. And I've tried to be that person
- 9:32Speaker 4: and of us sometimes of the chagrin of our own party.
- 9:35Speaker 4: But the alternative was you get Kyra Eastman or Tony
- 9:37Speaker 4: Vargas in there, and you got so you got to
- 9:39Speaker 4: define yourself as a Republican in the second district, and
- 9:44Speaker 4: I've largely defined myself as being a Reagan Republican who
- 9:48Speaker 4: I believe in peace, three strength, I believe in strong allies.
- 9:51Speaker 4: I believe in federalism pro wife. I believe on being
- 9:53Speaker 4: hard on criminals, and I've I just tried to stick
- 9:56Speaker 4: with that compass and it's and it's worked for me.
- 10:00Speaker 4: So but that's that's going to be a who wins
- 10:02Speaker 4: the middle in November, and.
- 10:04Speaker 2: There, I tell you there's nobody that's going to work
- 10:06Speaker 2: harder than brinker Harding. The thing about our party, though,
- 10:09Speaker 2: I know Mary Jane Trumper was on Scott's show just
- 10:13Speaker 2: I think yesterday or the day before. You know, we've
- 10:17Speaker 2: our party, our state party, our local Douglas County Republican Party.
- 10:21Speaker 2: They have got to get together and rally and support
- 10:24Speaker 2: our candidates. Do you know the Douglas County Republican Party
- 10:27Speaker 2: did not endorse brinker Harding.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Yeah, they're really not in tuned with the vote or
- 10:35Speaker 4: the electorate in Nebraska. They represent a faction of the party.
- 10:40Speaker 4: I'm not denying that, but in the scheme of things
- 10:43Speaker 4: you could see it, like at twenty twenty four, went
- 10:45Speaker 4: all three county parties endorse my opponent in the primary,
- 10:48Speaker 4: and the state chairman endorsed my opponent. Then I got
- 10:51Speaker 4: cezered by two of the three counties, and yet I
- 10:53Speaker 4: won by I think twenty six points. So, but my
- 10:57Speaker 4: point view is that it doesn't reflect necessarily the broader
- 11:02Speaker 4: Republican party nor the electric that you need in November. Now,
- 11:07Speaker 4: maybe when you go further west Nebraska, you can get
- 11:10Speaker 4: by with nominating someone that's you know, well on the
- 11:16Speaker 4: far right, we'll just say it that way, that's even
- 11:18Speaker 4: appropriate term. But you're not gonna be able to do
- 11:20Speaker 4: that in district too. Yes, And a lot of these
- 11:22Speaker 4: folks don't don't get that. It's uh that they're you know,
- 11:26Speaker 4: this district probably is an R two district, I believe,
- 11:29Speaker 4: but because of the presidential elections, it's labeled a D
- 11:32Speaker 4: two district. And that's because the voters have turned out
- 11:36Speaker 4: against you know, our our presidential nominee. And if you
- 11:39Speaker 4: run as you know, mainline Republicanubla Reagan background, this district
- 11:45Speaker 4: could go to you two three or four points and
- 11:48Speaker 4: so but it's but the swing voters, they they make
- 11:50Speaker 4: their voice known.
- 11:51Speaker 6: Absolutely. I think Scott Vorhees has a question for you.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Yeah, if I may, thank you very much. Congressman Don
- 11:57Speaker 3: Beagan with us here on news radio eleven to ten
- 11:59Speaker 3: kfa B and thefab Comment Line with Jeans Stothar, I
- 12:02Speaker 3: think Congressman you and I have been watching the division
- 12:06Speaker 3: within the local Republican Party politics. I think you're one
- 12:09Speaker 3: hundred percent right when you say that sometimes some level
- 12:12Speaker 3: of pettiness is sinking in there, trying to make enemies
- 12:15Speaker 3: out of friends by the local party not endorsing brinker Harding,
- 12:19Speaker 3: not that they need to, he's the only one in
- 12:20Speaker 3: the race, but at the same time, you endorsed the
- 12:24Speaker 3: incumbent and the Secretary of State race and came out
- 12:27Speaker 3: hard against Scott Peterson, and Scott Peterson ended up winning
- 12:31Speaker 3: that race. So by your own standard, does that make
- 12:34Speaker 3: you out of touch with Nebraskan Republican Party politics.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Well, in this case, I think there's a moral compass
- 12:40Speaker 4: that needs to be happen sometimes if you're in the minority,
- 12:43Speaker 4: and I don't think I win the minority. Part of
- 12:45Speaker 4: the problem is what Mayor Stoffor said. We had twenty
- 12:47Speaker 4: eight percent turnout, and we, like I ran two years ago,
- 12:52Speaker 4: we were expecting a thirty three percent turnout and that
- 12:54Speaker 4: would have driven a seventy thirty election according to the
- 12:57Speaker 4: four or five polls be had. But when it's eight turnout,
- 13:01Speaker 4: there the more angry or the more vocal parts of
- 13:05Speaker 4: the party come out more than the A lot of
- 13:09Speaker 4: folks stay home, and then you end up a certain
- 13:11Speaker 4: electric that comes out. I think that's what happened in
- 13:13Speaker 4: the mayor's race. It was twenty eight percent, and we
- 13:16Speaker 4: saw this I think this week with a twenty eight
- 13:18Speaker 4: percent turnout here. But regardless, I got to tell you
- 13:21Speaker 4: I heard from a lot of elected officials yesterday that
- 13:23Speaker 4: regret they weren't more vocal on this race. How you
- 13:26Speaker 4: heard from media? I had media Colin calling me and said, Don,
- 13:30Speaker 4: we want to talk more about Scott Peterson. I go, no, thanks.
- 13:33Speaker 4: You guys didn't do the articles that you needed to
- 13:35Speaker 4: do before the primary. Now you want to go after
- 13:37Speaker 4: them after the primary. What we needed you to do
- 13:40Speaker 4: is be more put a spotlight on some of the
- 13:43Speaker 4: things and his supporters and some of the things he's
- 13:45Speaker 4: saying before the primary, because most of the voters don't know.
- 13:49Speaker 4: And I would say, Scott, I respect you, But when
- 13:52Speaker 4: he was on your show on Monday, you know you said, hey,
- 13:56Speaker 4: Don Bacon is showing this. You know some of these
- 13:58Speaker 4: screenshots so some of your supporters, what of them was
- 14:00Speaker 4: about Charlie Kirk being burned by the Jews, and he
- 14:03Speaker 4: said it was bad, and he says, well, don Bacon
- 14:05Speaker 4: twists things, and Bob Borr, you know the guy that's
- 14:09Speaker 4: behind on his campaign, speaking on his behalf, he's a
- 14:12Speaker 4: really very strong Christian. I wish you would have pushed back,
- 14:15Speaker 4: how do I twist blaming the Jews for killing Charlie Kirk.
- 14:19Speaker 4: It's a screenshot, it's no twisting. It was bad, it
- 14:22Speaker 4: was toxic. But a lot of folks just let him
- 14:25Speaker 4: get away with that, and it's not He should have
- 14:27Speaker 4: condemned that kind of behavior. And I don't really think
- 14:30Speaker 4: a strong Christian blames the Jews for killing Charlie Kirk.
- 14:34Speaker 4: So Sky's want to push back with you. I think
- 14:36Speaker 4: that could have been more.
- 14:37Speaker 3: That's fair by the way I had him on a
- 14:39Speaker 3: few days before that. We talked more at length about that,
- 14:42Speaker 3: and I read the quote from Robert Borr about you know,
- 14:46Speaker 3: Jew money in Turning Point, USA, and I said, this
- 14:49Speaker 3: sounds absolutely abhorrent to some people. Is this guy a
- 14:52Speaker 3: supporter of yours? Do you support this comment? And same
- 14:56Speaker 3: thing he pushed back and said, look, there's a lot
- 14:58Speaker 3: of people supporting my campaign. He's not one of my advisors,
- 15:01Speaker 3: not on my campaign. Also, I don't work for the
- 15:04Speaker 3: Peterson campaign or any of these political campaigns. But I
- 15:08Speaker 3: will respond to that fair criticism on your point.
- 15:12Speaker 4: He was this guy was going out speaking on Scott
- 15:15Speaker 4: Peterson's behalf of the county GUP meetings and publicizing it.
- 15:19Speaker 4: So so I just think this is going to be
- 15:21Speaker 4: an issue through November. I guarantee it. You know, I'm
- 15:25Speaker 4: going to just stay on the I'm going to stay
- 15:26Speaker 4: out of that race, but other people are gonna Now
- 15:29Speaker 4: the Democrats got a tangible thing to go on, and
- 15:32Speaker 4: and it's a legitimate issue that I would say. The
- 15:36Speaker 4: only one news really went after this good was CAMTV,
- 15:39Speaker 4: But like I had another news source from the well
- 15:41Speaker 4: cleary of whether or not say who, and they were
- 15:42Speaker 4: wanting to do a story on this. I'm like, no,
- 15:45Speaker 4: you guys could have done this before Tuesday. Now you
- 15:48Speaker 4: want to do it after the primary. I don't. I
- 15:50Speaker 4: don't like it.
- 15:51Speaker 2: You know, We've said this many times, but elections have consequences,
- 15:54Speaker 2: So we will see what happens between now and November.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Another point I wanted to bring up with you, Congressman,
- 16:01Speaker 2: is I think you and I and Brinker Harding have
- 16:05Speaker 2: both said the same thing many times, is that if
- 16:09Speaker 2: you elect us to these positions, we will represent everyone.
- 16:14Speaker 2: We have said that many times, and we know that
- 16:17Speaker 2: in this district. I knew in Omaha. You knew in
- 16:19Speaker 2: congressional district too, and Brinker does two that you are
- 16:23Speaker 2: not going to win unless you get votes from the independents,
- 16:27Speaker 2: and you get votes from the moderate Democrats and we
- 16:30Speaker 2: get everybody out to vote immediately. Immediately, when Brinker said
- 16:34Speaker 2: that election night, I will represent you, all people on
- 16:37Speaker 2: his Facebook were saying, well, that means you're a Rhino.
- 16:40Speaker 2: You're not a true Republican because now you've said you
- 16:42Speaker 2: will represent everyone. Maybe speak to that a little bit,
- 16:46Speaker 2: because what I hear Denise Pal saying consequently is that
- 16:50Speaker 2: I will only represent Democrats. I'm not going to represent
- 16:53Speaker 2: the Republicans in congressional district too. Speak to that, because
- 16:57Speaker 2: I don't feel like I am a Rhino because I
- 17:00Speaker 2: said I will represent everyone, and I don't think Brinker
- 17:03Speaker 2: is in neither. Were you talk a little bit to
- 17:05Speaker 2: take in that position that you have to get those
- 17:07Speaker 2: independent votes and you have to get some moderate Democrat votes.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Well, some of the folks in the last six years,
- 17:13Speaker 4: would I think they would have preferred Kara Eastman or
- 17:16Speaker 4: Tony Vargas to be the representative because they wanted purity
- 17:20Speaker 4: in their eyes of purity. Right, that doesn't mean everybody
- 17:22Speaker 4: else agrees with with what that parody is. But in
- 17:25Speaker 4: my case, you know, there's things I feel strongly on, Like,
- 17:28Speaker 4: for example, I believe that US has a big role
- 17:31Speaker 4: in the world for freedom, free markets, rule of law.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Doesn't we've got to do it all, We've got to
- 17:36Speaker 4: have allies. But that world view shapes me. But because
- 17:40Speaker 4: some folks at the top, sometimes the president or folks
- 17:44Speaker 4: around them, have more of an isolation's view than you,
- 17:47Speaker 4: you get called these things like you said, rhino, But no,
- 17:49Speaker 4: this is what I believe in. But also it reflects
- 17:52Speaker 4: what most of the district believes in. Right. And to
- 17:56Speaker 4: your point, if you don't win independence swing voters and
- 17:59Speaker 4: district to you are going to have a Democrat representing
- 18:04Speaker 4: the district. And so you've got to be smart about this,
- 18:07Speaker 4: and you've got to listen to other people and and
- 18:11Speaker 4: try to take in the broader folks of the district. So,
- 18:15Speaker 4: for example, I wanted to listen to more labor. When
- 18:18Speaker 4: I got elected, I realize a lot of these are
- 18:21Speaker 4: our union members. They want to vote Republican, but they
- 18:26Speaker 4: need a Republican that goes to their meetings and listens
- 18:28Speaker 4: to them. And so just by being there and listening
- 18:31Speaker 4: and seeing where we can find consensus, it was a
- 18:34Speaker 4: game changer for us in district too. And I encourage
- 18:36Speaker 4: other Republicans to meet with labor, whether it's the you know,
- 18:40Speaker 4: the Labor's union, the equipment operators, the fire the fire union,
- 18:45Speaker 4: the police union. Listen to them because a lot of
- 18:47Speaker 4: their members want to vote Republican, but you've got to
- 18:50Speaker 4: give them a chance to do so by listening.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Right And you know I said with my race, and
- 18:55Speaker 2: I know this is said with the congressional race. If
- 18:57Speaker 2: the Republicans lose the mayor of Omaha, it's going to
- 19:00Speaker 2: be a long time before there will be another Republican
- 19:03Speaker 2: conservative mayor of Omaha. I'll say the same thing about
- 19:06Speaker 2: Congressional district too. This is Don Bacon, Congressman Don Bacon
- 19:10Speaker 2: on with us this morning. You are in DC. Thank
- 19:12Speaker 2: you for stepping out of your committee hearing. But while
- 19:15Speaker 2: I still have you one more I want to ask
- 19:18Speaker 2: you Ricketts wins obviously the GOP Senate primary. That was
- 19:22Speaker 2: a busy field, but he came out way ahead Cindy Burbank.
- 19:26Speaker 2: She gets the nod from the Dems, but she immediately
- 19:29Speaker 2: on election night said that she may drop out of
- 19:32Speaker 2: the race and put her support between Dan Osborne. And now,
- 19:37Speaker 2: I think on Tuesday or the day after Wednesday, she
- 19:40Speaker 2: said until she knows for certain she can't win in November,
- 19:44Speaker 2: that she may drop out of the race and just
- 19:47Speaker 2: to give her support to dan Osborne.
- 19:50Speaker 6: Any comments on that, Well, the.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Voters deserved better than the games being played by the
- 19:54Speaker 4: Democrat Party here. There's no doubt they want Osborne to
- 19:58Speaker 4: be the Democrat person that they all vote for, but
- 20:01Speaker 4: they know that if he's in the Democrat Party he's
- 20:04Speaker 4: going to lose sixty forty, sixty five, thirty five somewhere
- 20:07Speaker 4: in there. But they want him to run as independent.
- 20:09Speaker 4: By the way, there's four or five states going through
- 20:11Speaker 4: the same thing right now, and hardcore Republican states they're
- 20:14Speaker 4: running independents and trying to clear the lane out get
- 20:16Speaker 4: the Democrat out of the there. But so now you
- 20:19Speaker 4: had two Democrats running on the Democrat Party. One was
- 20:22Speaker 4: wanting to really run. The one was trying to stop
- 20:24Speaker 4: him from running so she could withdraw. But don't you
- 20:26Speaker 4: think the voters deserve better?
- 20:28Speaker 6: Absolutely?
- 20:29Speaker 4: I mean, I mean, you've got a fake guy running
- 20:31Speaker 4: as an independent who's really the Democrat, and the Democrat
- 20:34Speaker 4: Party is trying to clear out. They don't want no
- 20:36Speaker 4: nominees label the Democrats so they can support independent. It
- 20:40Speaker 4: is playing games on the voters. And I just think
- 20:44Speaker 4: Dan Osworth, if he's a Democrat, run as a Democrat.
- 20:46Speaker 4: And by the way, all those positions are Democrat.
- 20:49Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Congressman Don Bacon, thank you so much for taking the
- 20:52Speaker 2: time out this morning and being with us. I wanted
- 20:54Speaker 2: to hear your take on the election. And we've got
- 20:58Speaker 2: a long way to go until Nova, but you're going
- 21:01Speaker 2: to see a lot of campaigning and a lot of
- 21:03Speaker 2: ads on TV, and there's going to be a lot
- 21:05Speaker 2: of action going on. So for us Republicans get we
- 21:09Speaker 2: got to get together and we've got to support our candidates,
- 21:12Speaker 2: that is for sure.
- 21:13Speaker 6: So thank you for being with us today. Thank you,
- 21:16Speaker 6: bye bye bye, thank you. All right.
- 21:19Speaker 2: That was Congressman Don Bacon and he took the time
- 21:23Speaker 2: out from a committee meeting. He was in in DC
- 21:25Speaker 2: today to be on the air and talk with us.
- 21:27Speaker 2: So glad that he is was with us today.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Absolutely, we'll open up the phones here four oh two, five, five, eight,
- 21:33Speaker 3: eleven ten or comment at kfab dot com to get
- 21:36Speaker 3: your comments on here on the KFAB comment line with
- 21:39Speaker 3: Gene Stothard after a Fox News update.
- 21:41Speaker 6: Next, this is the KFAB.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Comment line with Gene Stothard on news radio eleven ten KFAB.
- 21:47Speaker 2: And we are back and Scott Vorhes is here with
- 21:50Speaker 2: me today because our producer Peyton hurt his shoulder the
- 21:54Speaker 2: other day playing soccer and he's at the hospital right
- 21:57Speaker 2: now getting a few X rays, making sure he's open. Hey,
- 22:00Speaker 2: I'm sure he'll be back soon in and ready to go.
- 22:04Speaker 2: But we have We just had Congressman Don Bacon on.
- 22:07Speaker 2: He called us in from Washington, d C. I wanted
- 22:09Speaker 2: to talk about congressional district to race with him, get
- 22:12Speaker 2: his thoughts, and we do have some calls, so Scott.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Yeah, some response to the conversation there with Congressman Don
- 22:18Speaker 3: Bacon would start here with Amy. Amy, You're on news
- 22:21Speaker 3: radio eleven ten KFA be in the comment line with
- 22:24Speaker 3: Jean Stouth.
- 22:24Speaker 6: Good morning, Good morning, good morning.
- 22:27Speaker 7: I just wanted to say, Scott, I could never love
- 22:29Speaker 7: you more than I do right now. I think that
- 22:32Speaker 7: everything that you said to John Vacon was bought on
- 22:35Speaker 7: as somebody who was pretty wet behind yours politically here
- 22:39Speaker 7: in the Omaha area. I've been a little active since
- 22:44Speaker 7: twenty eighteen, and I feel like, you know, what's good
- 22:48Speaker 7: for the goose is good for the gander, except when
- 22:50Speaker 7: it comes to John Bacon, and so I you know,
- 22:54Speaker 7: he's talking about how, you know, Republicans need to get
- 22:57Speaker 7: back to having their Republican views while we I mean,
- 23:02Speaker 7: shouldn't he also do the same thing. So when we
- 23:05Speaker 7: talk about people who are going after the president or
- 23:08Speaker 7: going after other politicians, I think that.
- 23:12Speaker 8: I think the.
- 23:12Speaker 7: Reason why Don Bacon is no longer going to be
- 23:16Speaker 7: in office here. And I just want to say thank
- 23:18Speaker 7: you for kind of giving him that bit of information
- 23:21Speaker 7: about it, Scott.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Peterson con Well, I wanted to give him a chance
- 23:24Speaker 3: to respond, and Amy, I appreciate the phone call. I
- 23:27Speaker 3: already did my radio show today and I don't mean
- 23:30Speaker 3: to intrude on yours, but Bacon kind of called me out.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I gave him the same opportunity. I ask a question
- 23:37Speaker 3: and him answer. I did the same thing with Scott
- 23:39Speaker 3: Peterson a couple of different times leading up to this,
- 23:42Speaker 3: and in both conversations I brought up the congressman's criticism
- 23:45Speaker 3: of people associated with the Peterson campaign who've said some
- 23:51Speaker 3: anti Semitic stuff on social media, and he answered the question.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I pushed back a little bit. Don Bacon wanted me
- 23:58Speaker 3: to push back more, and I get it. Look, I
- 24:02Speaker 3: don't work for these campaigns. I asked questions. I let
- 24:05Speaker 3: these people who are looking for your vote answer these questions.
- 24:09Speaker 3: A pushback were necessary, but all of that said, I
- 24:14Speaker 3: still don't Here's my opinion. I don't think anti Semitism
- 24:18Speaker 3: played any role in this Secretary of State office. I
- 24:23Speaker 3: don't think voters had any idea that people associate with
- 24:28Speaker 3: Peterson's campaign who have run for this seat before and
- 24:31Speaker 3: lost to Bob Ebnon have said anything on social media.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Not a lot of people follow these guys. I don't
- 24:38Speaker 3: think people had any idea that Bob Ebnen is Jewish
- 24:41Speaker 3: or that played any role in this whatsoever. The people
- 24:47Speaker 3: who responded on Wednesday when we brought this up yesterday morning,
- 24:51Speaker 3: I said, all right, so why did you vote for
- 24:53Speaker 3: Scott Peterson. Then, not a single person of the multiple
- 24:57Speaker 3: emails that came in here had anything anti semitic to say.
- 25:01Speaker 3: It was related to the issue of being Secretary of State,
- 25:04Speaker 3: questions about elections, and all the rest of it.
- 25:07Speaker 2: It was mostly about safe and secure elections. Of everything
- 25:09Speaker 2: that I read afterwards, they were trying to use that
- 25:12Speaker 2: issue of anti semitism as making it an issue. But
- 25:17Speaker 2: I don't think that that was the reason of everything
- 25:20Speaker 2: that I have read since the election is why people
- 25:23Speaker 2: voted more for Scott Peterson. It was when you throw
- 25:27Speaker 2: this issue out that elections maybe are not as safe
- 25:32Speaker 2: and secure as they should be. There's nothing that irritates
- 25:35Speaker 2: people more. Oh yeah, and so I think that people
- 25:39Speaker 2: generally just felt like it was time for a change.
- 25:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Here's the other side of that issue is now it's
- 25:44Speaker 3: real easy if you're not in that position to say
- 25:47Speaker 3: cast dispersions about what's happening or not happening with the
- 25:50Speaker 3: person running that office. Well, now that Peterson is doing it,
- 25:53Speaker 3: I wonder how much he'll say, oh, yeah, look at
- 25:55Speaker 3: all this stuff I uncovered and all the things we
- 25:57Speaker 3: can do differently now since the legislature and election law
- 26:02Speaker 3: generally dictates how that office is run. I don't know
- 26:05Speaker 3: that he'll be able to uncover the things he thinks
- 26:08Speaker 3: he's going to find or do the things he thinks
- 26:10Speaker 3: he wants to do right, But it's always interesting to
- 26:13Speaker 3: see what happens. You know, you've dealt with this where hey,
- 26:16Speaker 3: once I get in the mayor's office, I'm going to
- 26:18Speaker 3: do this, this and this, and then you realize, oh,
- 26:20Speaker 3: I can't do any of that.
- 26:22Speaker 6: Well, it's happened in my last election.
- 26:24Speaker 2: And you know, the one thing that I always said
- 26:27Speaker 2: to my you know, potential voters, was I'm not lying
- 26:30Speaker 2: to you. I'll give you. I'll give it to you straight.
- 26:32Speaker 2: This is what I can do, and this is what
- 26:34Speaker 2: I can't do. But it is very typical for a
- 26:37Speaker 2: lot of candidates, because I've been there nine and nine
- 26:40Speaker 2: can in nine elections for candidates to make all of
- 26:43Speaker 2: these promises and then not delivered. Now, they will keep
- 26:47Speaker 2: making the promises all during you know, from the primary
- 26:50Speaker 2: to the general election, and then after they're in that seat,
- 26:53Speaker 2: it's like, oh, well, can't do it, No can do
- 26:56Speaker 2: And so now the rubber meets the road for Scott Peterson,
- 26:59Speaker 2: and he Scott to between now in November convince people
- 27:03Speaker 2: of what he's going to do differently to make elections
- 27:06Speaker 2: more safe and secure, because that's exactly what he ran on.
- 27:10Speaker 3: We got another call in response to the conversation with
- 27:13Speaker 3: the congressman Jean. You're on eleven ten kfa B comment
- 27:17Speaker 3: line with Jean sto the good Morning, Good Morning.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Him. Mary.
- 27:21Speaker 8: Can you hear me?
- 27:22Speaker 1: I'm on my car play we can hear you?
- 27:26Speaker 5: Okay, So I got a couple.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Well, first of all, I'm from star Pikanish. I couldn't
- 27:30Speaker 1: voted for you, but I would have voted for you
- 27:32Speaker 1: every time my kids went to submit her south same
- 27:35Speaker 1: time as yours did, so I've always been a fan.
- 27:37Speaker 6: Good deal, Thank you.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I got a couple of comments on Don Bacon and
- 27:42Speaker 1: then on mob on evidence. Yeah, so Bacon forgets where
- 27:53Speaker 1: he came from, he would not have been in there.
- 27:55Speaker 1: One for Scott Peterson. Scott Peterson got him elected the
- 27:57Speaker 1: first two times because he was on his campaign, did
- 28:00Speaker 1: a great job, and then he forgets about that, and
- 28:03Speaker 1: then to get you know, left of center or whatever,
- 28:06Speaker 1: he became a non trumper just.
- 28:08Speaker 8: So he could get votes in district too.
- 28:10Speaker 1: And that's not right, either you're giving away your values
- 28:12Speaker 1: of Nebraska. And then as far as Bob, yeah, it
- 28:18Speaker 1: was about elections and your whole show on election Day
- 28:21Speaker 1: was about election discrepancies, and everybody called in was talking
- 28:25Speaker 1: about election discrepancies. And my second comment is on the
- 28:29Speaker 1: truckers from from Kenya, that's just you don't do that
- 28:32Speaker 1: in Nebraska. So that's what's my two points on Bacon
- 28:37Speaker 1: and Bob. So I'll let you get back to your show,
- 28:40Speaker 1: but I just wanted to I'm thinking up for Scott.
- 28:42Speaker 1: I've known him for twenty some years. He does not
- 28:45Speaker 1: have an anti Semitic vote in his box.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Well, I appreciate your comments and thanks for calling in,
- 28:50Speaker 2: but you know, I do want to say also that
- 28:53Speaker 2: and I mentioned this when I was on the air
- 28:55Speaker 2: with Don Bacon Is people accused me of the same thing,
- 28:58Speaker 2: of being left of center, and I was not.
- 29:02Speaker 6: You know, they use that word rhino.
- 29:04Speaker 2: The only thing that I really said is that I
- 29:07Speaker 2: will represent Democrats and I will represent the independents that
- 29:11Speaker 2: are in Omaha. I'm not going to only represent Republicans
- 29:15Speaker 2: because in a blue dot district like we are in,
- 29:19Speaker 2: you just you are not going to win if you
- 29:21Speaker 2: come out and say I will only support Republicans. And
- 29:24Speaker 2: I brought that out as a point with Denise Powell too,
- 29:27Speaker 2: because of what I have seen from her so far,
- 29:30Speaker 2: especially on her commercials, is she is only going to
- 29:33Speaker 2: represent Democrats. And if she keeps on talking about abortion
- 29:38Speaker 2: rights being pro choice, and she keeps on talking about
- 29:41Speaker 2: maintaining that blue dot, and so you know, these are
- 29:45Speaker 2: things that need to come out in the next six months.
- 29:48Speaker 2: I want to hear that Denise Powell will say I
- 29:51Speaker 2: will represent the Republicans in this district too and the Independents.
- 29:55Speaker 2: And to me, that's what Don Bacon was saying. But
- 29:58Speaker 2: you know, because I said the same thing. But you
- 30:01Speaker 2: know that doesn't farewell with some people. So I appreciate
- 30:03Speaker 2: your comment. And you know, Don Bacon served for ten
- 30:07Speaker 2: years and now it's time for him to move on.
- 30:10Speaker 2: And I kept on telling him retirement's the best job
- 30:13Speaker 2: I've ever had, and I think that he will stay
- 30:15Speaker 2: plenty busy with whatever he chooses to do in the future.
- 30:18Speaker 3: James has a comment on Denise Powell. James, You're on
- 30:22Speaker 3: eleven ten kfa B with Jean Stothard.
- 30:26Speaker 8: Hello, I just wanted to mention my thought about this,
- 30:31Speaker 8: Denise Powell, who seems to be an interloper and there
- 30:36Speaker 8: our community, bringing in her brand of hate on a
- 30:43Speaker 8: platform that she uses and lies to perpetuate what she
- 30:50Speaker 8: wants the voters to believe. You know, I've lived in
- 30:55Speaker 8: this community my whole life. You go back to Elvey Zarinsky, PJ. Morgan.
- 31:02Speaker 8: I've been here for all of them, and you Mayor
- 31:07Speaker 8: stout Art did a great job. Unfortunately lost our last
- 31:11Speaker 8: go around, and unfortunately our current mayor seems to only
- 31:16Speaker 8: want to represent a segment of our community. But that
- 31:19Speaker 8: was kind of anevitability getting back to me to Denise Powell.
- 31:26Speaker 8: She's just bringing in this this personal contaminated political talking points.
- 31:36Speaker 8: I mean, what she brings is hate toward people that
- 31:42Speaker 8: don't believe in what Democrats believe in. Today in today's society,
- 31:49Speaker 8: you know, the sky isn't always blue, the grass isn't
- 31:52Speaker 8: always green, men aren't always men, women aren't always women.
- 31:57Speaker 8: That whole cabal of what they've created with the help
- 32:01Speaker 8: of our national and local media.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Absolutely, and it's always Donald Trump's fault. Correct, That's what
- 32:09Speaker 2: you hear. Everything is Donald Trump's fault.
- 32:12Speaker 8: That's what you hear. And you know that Trump is
- 32:15Speaker 8: the human being like anyone else. He's got his good
- 32:19Speaker 8: points and he's got his bad points. Do I believe
- 32:22Speaker 8: in everything Trump says? Absolutely not. But what I do
- 32:26Speaker 8: believe in is what the Republican Party needs today is fighters,
- 32:31Speaker 8: people that will go out and fight for conservatives and realism,
- 32:37Speaker 8: people that think in real terms about life. As I
- 32:41Speaker 8: look out my window and I look at my neighbors,
- 32:44Speaker 8: and I see a Denise Powell sign there, and I
- 32:47Speaker 8: see a Brinker Hearting sign there, I mean, for most
- 32:51Speaker 8: of my life, there are really two things you never
- 32:54Speaker 8: spoke about amongst family and friends, money in politics, because
- 33:01Speaker 8: it could become such a such a divider. Now politics
- 33:05Speaker 8: has taken front front center, and everyone wants to know
- 33:10Speaker 8: what your political views are. Well, guess what, It's none
- 33:13Speaker 8: of your damn business what my political views are. I
- 33:16Speaker 8: want to get along with my neighbors. I want to
- 33:19Speaker 8: get along with people in my community. It's been a
- 33:22Speaker 8: great place to grow up. But this coastal contaminated politicking
- 33:28Speaker 8: that she brings is going to bring this turn Omaha
- 33:32Speaker 8: into a Saint Louis, a Kansas City, a Minneapolis, all
- 33:40Speaker 8: all all governments held by Democrats, and I'm sorry. I
- 33:46Speaker 8: used to be a Democrat, and I apologize because I
- 33:50Speaker 8: had a revelation and it really occurred during Hillary Clinton
- 33:57Speaker 8: and when she sat in front of Congress and she
- 33:59Speaker 8: was that and she said that what does it matter
- 34:03Speaker 8: now that those soldiers were killed in Benghazi? Well, it
- 34:09Speaker 8: matters a lot to the family and friends of those people.
- 34:12Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Well, I appreciate your comments and thank you for calling in.
- 34:18Speaker 2: You know, and Denise Powell, as she says in her commercial,
- 34:21Speaker 2: she's a pod mom, and I think she's angry. As
- 34:24Speaker 2: I said with Don Bacon, this is just what we
- 34:26Speaker 2: need as another angry person in DC representing us. So
- 34:30Speaker 2: I thank our job. Now if we want Brinker Harding
- 34:33Speaker 2: to win this race and to maintain District two Congressional
- 34:38Speaker 2: District two having a Republican in there and our conservative
- 34:42Speaker 2: points of view to stress those things, we need to
- 34:45Speaker 2: demand from her what she is going to do and
- 34:49Speaker 2: who she is going to represent.
- 34:51Speaker 6: And I agree with you.
- 34:52Speaker 2: You know, I drive into my own neighborhood in southwest
- 34:55Speaker 2: Omaha and I see a few houses with the blue
- 34:57Speaker 2: dot in their yard. I don't hate those people, They're
- 35:00Speaker 2: great neighbors. I've brought this up before too. My son
- 35:05Speaker 2: is a very liberal Democrat. Now what happened to him,
- 35:08Speaker 2: I don't know. He became very academic, but he is
- 35:12Speaker 2: also I don't hate him, you know for sure. I
- 35:15Speaker 2: mean I respect him, I respect his points of view.
- 35:18Speaker 2: I don't agree with him. But I think we've this
- 35:21Speaker 2: this vitriol that we have going back and forth is
- 35:23Speaker 2: what is really wearing people down. And boy, we've got
- 35:27Speaker 2: We've got six months now and this is going to
- 35:29Speaker 2: be very very interesting, and I know we'll all stay
- 35:31Speaker 2: tuned and I know we're all.
- 35:33Speaker 6: Going to talk about it quite a bit.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Love the interviews on this program. I hope Denise Powell
- 35:37Speaker 3: can come in here and do an interview with Jean
- 35:39Speaker 3: stopp Well.
- 35:40Speaker 6: We'll see.
- 35:41Speaker 3: I'll reach out and I'm going to ask on the
- 35:42Speaker 3: KFABE comment line. I think they've got a little pushback
- 35:46Speaker 3: from Pete here for you. Jean Stouth to Pete, you're
- 35:49Speaker 3: on the KFABE comment line on news radio eleven ten
- 35:52Speaker 3: KFAB good morning, Good morning, Good.
- 35:56Speaker 5: Morning Jean and Scott. Great to hear both your voices again.
- 36:00Speaker 5: And I listen almost every day, thank you, you know.
- 36:03Speaker 5: And and Gene, I've supported you for years, and I
- 36:07Speaker 5: voted for you. I don't know how many times tell
- 36:09Speaker 5: you're on my ballot for school board and this and that,
- 36:12Speaker 5: and Congressman Bacon as well. And I think it's pretty
- 36:16Speaker 5: rich to hear one former politician and one current soon
- 36:20Speaker 5: to be former politicians who have both had some very
- 36:26Speaker 5: interesting primaries over the years and have always wanted to,
- 36:30Speaker 5: you know, rally everybody's support behind whoever won the primary
- 36:34Speaker 5: the day after primary day. You know, I've been at
- 36:37Speaker 5: those rallies. I think it's pretty rich to hear a
- 36:39Speaker 5: couple of you guys dogging on Scott Peterson, not because
- 36:43Speaker 5: of what Scott believes, but because of what one guy
- 36:46Speaker 5: that supports Scott believes and posts on social media. People
- 36:51Speaker 5: post all kinds of stupid stuff on there. We all
- 36:53Speaker 5: know that. And again, both of you have enjoyed support
- 36:58Speaker 5: from Scott Peterson first off, over the years and from
- 37:02Speaker 5: a lot of people who probably think some pretty outrageous
- 37:06Speaker 5: things that you don't agree with. So I said, my peace,
- 37:11Speaker 5: I'll shut up and listen.
- 37:12Speaker 6: Well, thanks, thanks for your comment.
- 37:16Speaker 2: You know, Scott Peterson, I don't believe that what I
- 37:20Speaker 2: have said on the air was critical of him. I
- 37:22Speaker 2: just wanted to bring out what we think happened with
- 37:27Speaker 2: his you know, him defeating the incumbent. I mean, it's
- 37:30Speaker 2: it's interesting politics to me, and you know, it's it's
- 37:34Speaker 2: really difficult for anyone who has not been a candidate,
- 37:39Speaker 2: especially for a big office, and not been through this
- 37:42Speaker 2: and not experience them that this issue that goes on
- 37:46Speaker 2: during the campaigns themselves of what it's really really like.
- 37:49Speaker 2: I mean, there was so much said about me in
- 37:51Speaker 2: the last mayoral campaign, especially in the primary. I mean,
- 37:56Speaker 2: Mike McDonald was doing commercials against me constantly, and I
- 38:00Speaker 2: would hear these commercials and say, what what the heck
- 38:03Speaker 2: is that about? But you know why people do negative
- 38:06Speaker 2: campaigning because it works and they and it's just it
- 38:11Speaker 2: gets more and more frustrating all the time, especially if
- 38:14Speaker 2: you're a candidate. Why can't we just keep it to
- 38:16Speaker 2: the issues. Why can't we talk about what we are
- 38:19Speaker 2: going to do, be honest with what the the you know,
- 38:23Speaker 2: the to the voters and just tell them why they
- 38:26Speaker 2: should vote for you. Don't concentrate on why they shouldn't
- 38:30Speaker 2: vote for your opponent. But you know, and I know
- 38:33Speaker 2: what you mean about social media. I'm telling you that
- 38:35Speaker 2: one of the best days of my life is when
- 38:37Speaker 2: I took my official Facebook down. I had about forty
- 38:40Speaker 2: five thousand followers, and I swear somebody said all forty
- 38:44Speaker 2: five said something negative every day. But it's just part
- 38:47Speaker 2: of what it is. It's part of what it's like.
- 38:49Speaker 2: And you know you can, after you're elected, have your
- 38:52Speaker 2: opinions for sure. Not everybody's going to agree with opinions.
- 38:56Speaker 2: And I always said when I was the mayor that
- 38:58Speaker 2: I made a decision every time the same way I
- 39:02Speaker 2: gathered the data, I did the research, I asked for
- 39:06Speaker 2: a lot of people's opinion, and then I made a decision,
- 39:09Speaker 2: and I took my knox for those who didn't agree
- 39:12Speaker 2: with me, and they with every decision I made, there
- 39:15Speaker 2: were those who agreed and though there were those who
- 39:18Speaker 2: didn't agree. And it's just part of what you have
- 39:21Speaker 2: to deal with when you are an elected official and
- 39:23Speaker 2: going through a campaign.
- 39:24Speaker 6: It's rough.
- 39:25Speaker 3: I thought you unfriended me on Facebook. Rilla just a
- 39:28Speaker 3: minute and a half left. Dale's been hanging on the
- 39:30Speaker 3: entire show to say this on a very different topic. Dale,
- 39:33Speaker 3: You're on the kfab comment line with Jean stout there.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Good morning, Hello, good morning, Good morning Jeans.
- 39:40Speaker 9: Thank you for taking my call. I just want to
- 39:42Speaker 9: say you are an outstanding there for those twelve years.
- 39:45Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 39:46Speaker 9: I would like to make a content about timing that
- 39:49Speaker 9: God had on his show in the morning about the
- 39:53Speaker 9: bar and having a loss and about a barbershop. And
- 39:58Speaker 9: I thought, thinking that in order to do away with
- 40:03Speaker 9: any type of litigation, they just change their names the
- 40:05Speaker 9: bar and that we're being ar r and instead having
- 40:09Speaker 9: it redded white barber poles. You have a bullet white barber.
- 40:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 40:14Speaker 3: I don't know how well you can hear him now
- 40:16Speaker 3: on that phone there the barber shop that's been shut
- 40:19Speaker 3: down because it's not a barber shop, it's a bar
- 40:21Speaker 3: bar and a bar for bar bar shop.
- 40:25Speaker 2: He's got some good suggestions. And that little pole that's
- 40:28Speaker 2: out front, he said, just change the striping on it.
- 40:31Speaker 2: So those are good suggestions. But I know that that's
- 40:34Speaker 2: an issue that's been talked about a little bit and
- 40:37Speaker 2: we'll see how that goes. But right now it's been
- 40:39Speaker 2: shut down.
- 40:40Speaker 3: I believe he's changed the name and hidden the barber
- 40:43Speaker 3: poles so he doesn't get thrown in jail.
- 40:45Speaker 6: Oh well, we don't like that.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Mike's the owner over there in Blackstone. Now, we don't
- 40:49Speaker 3: want that to happen, right, Jeane, you got ten seconds
- 40:51Speaker 3: wrap it up.
- 40:52Speaker 2: That's that is it for us today. I'm stumbling with
- 40:56Speaker 2: my words, but thank you all for spending this time
- 40:58Speaker 2: with us. We'd love to have you join us to tomorrow.
- 41:01Speaker 2: I am Jean Stothard and this is eleven ten Kfabe
