- 0:00Speaker 1: Alma chapter thirty five. Now it came to pass that
- 0:06Speaker 1: after Amulik had made an end of these words, they
- 0:09Speaker 1: withdrew themselves from the multitude and came over into the
- 0:12Speaker 1: land of Jersian. Yea and the rest of the brethren,
- 0:15Speaker 1: after they had preached the word unto the Zorromites, also
- 0:18Speaker 1: came over into the land of Jersian. And it came
- 0:21Speaker 1: to pass that after the more popular part of the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Zoramites had consulted together concerning the words which had been
- 0:27Speaker 1: preached unto them, they were angry because of the word,
- 0:31Speaker 1: for it to destroy their craft. Therefore, they would not
- 0:34Speaker 1: hearken unto the words, And they sent and gathered together
- 0:38Speaker 1: throughout all the land all the people, and consulted with
- 0:41Speaker 1: them concerning the words which had been spoken. Now, their
- 0:45Speaker 1: rulers and their priests and their teachers did not let
- 0:47Speaker 1: the people know concerning their desires. Therefore they found out
- 0:51Speaker 1: privily the minds of all the people. And it came
- 0:54Speaker 1: to pass that after they had found out the minds
- 0:56Speaker 1: of all the people, those who were in favor of
- 0:59Speaker 1: the words which had spoken by Alma and his brethren
- 1:02Speaker 1: were cast out of the land, and they were many,
- 1:05Speaker 1: and they came over also into the land of Jershan.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And it came to pass that Alma and his brethren
- 1:10Speaker 1: did minister unto them. Now, the people of the Zaramites
- 1:14Speaker 1: were angry with the people of Amen who were in Jershan.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And the chief ruler of the Zaormites, being a very
- 1:19Speaker 1: wicked man, sent over unto the people of Amen, desiring
- 1:22Speaker 1: them that they should cast out of their land all
- 1:25Speaker 1: those who came over from them into their land. And
- 1:28Speaker 1: he breathed out many threatenings against them. And now the
- 1:31Speaker 1: people of Amin did not fear their words. Therefore they
- 1:33Speaker 1: did not cast them out. But they did receive all
- 1:36Speaker 1: the poor of the Zormites that came over unto them,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and they did nourish them, and had clothed them, and
- 1:42Speaker 1: did give unto them lands for their inheritance, and they
- 1:46Speaker 1: did administer unto them according to their wants. Now this
- 1:49Speaker 1: did sir up the Zormites to anger against the people
- 1:52Speaker 1: of Amen, and they began to mix with the Lamanites
- 1:54Speaker 1: and to stir them up also to anger against them.
- 1:58Speaker 1: And thus the Zaromites and the Lamei Smonites began to
- 2:00Speaker 1: make preparations for war against the people of Amen, and
- 2:04Speaker 1: also against the Nephites. And thus ended the seventeenth year
- 2:08Speaker 1: of the reign of the Judges over the people of
- 2:10Speaker 1: Nephi and the people of Amon departed out of the
- 2:14Speaker 1: land of Gershan and came over into the land of Meelik,
- 2:17Speaker 1: and gave place in the land of Jershan for the
- 2:19Speaker 1: armies of the Nephites, that they might contend with the
- 2:22Speaker 1: armies of the Lamanites and the armies of the Zoramites.
- 2:26Speaker 1: And thus commenced a war betwixt the Lamanites and the
- 2:29Speaker 1: Nephites in the eighteenth year of the reign of the Judges,
- 2:33Speaker 1: And an account shall be given of their wars hereafter.
- 2:36Speaker 1: And Alma and Ammon and their brethren, and also the
- 2:40Speaker 1: two sons of Alma returned to the land of Zarahemla,
- 2:44Speaker 1: after having been instruments in the hands of God of
- 2:47Speaker 1: bringing many of the Zoramites to repentance. And as many
- 2:51Speaker 1: as were brought to repentance were driven out of their land.
- 2:54Speaker 1: But they have lands for their inheritance in the land
- 2:56Speaker 1: of Jershan, and they have taken up arms to defend
- 2:59Speaker 1: them and their wives and children, and their lands now Alma,
- 3:04Speaker 1: being grieved for the iniquity of his people, Yea, for
- 3:08Speaker 1: the wars and the bloodsheds, and the contentions which were
- 3:10Speaker 1: among them. And having been to declare the word, or
- 3:14Speaker 1: sent to declare the word among all the people in
- 3:16Speaker 1: every city, and seeing that the hearts of the people
- 3:19Speaker 1: began to wax hard, and that they began to be
- 3:22Speaker 1: offended because of the strictness of the word, his heart
- 3:25Speaker 1: was exceedingly sorrowful. Therefore he caused that his sons should
- 3:29Speaker 1: be gathered together, that he might give unto them every
- 3:32Speaker 1: one his charge separately concerning the things pertaining unto righteousness.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And we have an account of his commandments which he
- 3:40Speaker 1: gave unto them, according to his own record Alma, chapter
- 3:46Speaker 1: thirty six. My son, give ear to my words, for
- 3:50Speaker 1: I swear unto you that inasmuch as ye shall keep
- 3:52Speaker 1: the commandments of God, ye shall prosper in the land.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I would that ye should do as I have done
- 3:57Speaker 1: in remembering the captivity of our fathers, For they were
- 4:00Speaker 1: in bondage, and none could deliver them except it was
- 4:03Speaker 1: the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and
- 4:05Speaker 1: the God of Jacob. And he surely did deliver them
- 4:08Speaker 1: in their afflictions. And now, o, my son Heliman, behold
- 4:13Speaker 1: thou art in thy youth. And therefore I beseech of
- 4:16Speaker 1: thee that thou wilt hear my words and learn of me.
- 4:20Speaker 1: For I do know that whosoever shall put their trust
- 4:22Speaker 1: in God shall be supported in their trials and their
- 4:26Speaker 1: troubles and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at
- 4:29Speaker 1: the last Day. And I would not that ye think
- 4:33Speaker 1: that I know of myself, not of the temporal, but
- 4:35Speaker 1: of the spiritual, not of the carnal mind, but of God.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Now behold, I say unto you, if I had not
- 4:43Speaker 1: been born of God, I should not have known these things.
- 4:46Speaker 1: But God has, by the mouth of his Holy Angel,
- 4:49Speaker 1: made these things known unto me, not of any worthiness
- 4:52Speaker 1: of myself. For I went about with the sons of Mosiah,
- 4:56Speaker 1: seeking to destroy the Church of God. But behold, God
- 4:59Speaker 1: said his Holy Angel to stop us by the way.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And behold the spake unto us, as it were the
- 5:05Speaker 1: voice of thunder. And the whole earth did tremble beneath
- 5:08Speaker 1: our feet, and we all fell to the earth, for
- 5:11Speaker 1: the fear of the Lord came upon us. But behold
- 5:15Speaker 1: the voice said, unto me, arise, And I arose and
- 5:19Speaker 1: stood up and beheld the Angel, and he said unto me,
- 5:22Speaker 1: if thou wilt of thyself be destroyed, seek no more
- 5:26Speaker 1: to destroy the Church of God. And it came to
- 5:29Speaker 1: pass that I fell to the earth. And it was
- 5:32Speaker 1: for the space of three days and three nights that
- 5:35Speaker 1: I could not open my mouth, neither had I the
- 5:38Speaker 1: use of my limbs. And the Angel spake more things
- 5:41Speaker 1: unto me, which were heard by my brethren, but I
- 5:44Speaker 1: did not hear them. For when I heard the words,
- 5:47Speaker 1: if thou wilt be destroyed of thyself, seek no more
- 5:50Speaker 1: to destroy the Church of God, I was struck with
- 5:54Speaker 1: such great fear and amazement lest perhaps I should be destroyed,
- 5:58Speaker 1: that I fell to the earth. And I did hear
- 6:01Speaker 1: no more. But I was racked with eternal torment, for
- 6:06Speaker 1: my soul was harrowed up to the greatest degree, and
- 6:09Speaker 1: racked with all my sins. Yea, I did remember all
- 6:12Speaker 1: my sins and iniquities, for which I was tormented with
- 6:16Speaker 1: the pains of hell. Yea. I saw that I had
- 6:18Speaker 1: rebelled against my God, and that I had not kept
- 6:21Speaker 1: his holy commandments. Yea. And I had murdered many of
- 6:25Speaker 1: his children, or rather led them away into destruction. Yea,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and in fine, so great had been my iniquities that
- 6:33Speaker 1: the very thought of coming into the presence of my
- 6:36Speaker 1: God did rack my soul with inexpressible horror. Oh thought
- 6:40Speaker 1: I that I could be banished and become extinct, both
- 6:44Speaker 1: soul and body, that I might not be brought to
- 6:47Speaker 1: stand in the presence of my God to be judged
- 6:49Speaker 1: of my deeds. And now, for three days and for
- 6:53Speaker 1: three nights was I racked, even with the pains of
- 6:56Speaker 1: a damned soul. And it came to pass that as
- 6:59Speaker 1: I was thus racked, was torment. While I was harrowed
- 7:03Speaker 1: up by the memory of my many sins. Behold, I
- 7:07Speaker 1: remembered also to have heard my father prophesy unto the
- 7:10Speaker 1: people concerning the coming of one Jesus Christ, a son
- 7:15Speaker 1: of God, to atone for the sins of the world. Now,
- 7:20Speaker 1: as my mind caught hold upon this thought, I cried,
- 7:23Speaker 1: within my heart, O Jesus, thou Son of God, have
- 7:28Speaker 1: mercy on me, who am in the gall of bitterness
- 7:31Speaker 1: and am encircled about by the everlasting chains of death.
- 7:35Speaker 1: And now behold, when I thought this I could remember
- 7:38Speaker 1: my pains no more. Yea. I was harrowed up by
- 7:43Speaker 1: the memory of my sins no more. And oh, what
- 7:47Speaker 1: joy and what marvelous light I did behold, Yea. My
- 7:51Speaker 1: soul was filled with joy as exceeding as was my pain. Yea.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I say unto you, my son, that there could be
- 7:58Speaker 1: nothing so exquisite and so bitter as were my pains. Yea.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And again I say unto you, my son, that, on
- 8:06Speaker 1: the other hand, there can be nothing so exquisite and
- 8:11Speaker 1: sweet as was my joy. Yea. Methought I saw even
- 8:16Speaker 1: as our father leh. I saw God sitting upon his throne,
- 8:21Speaker 1: surrounded with numberless concourses of angels in the attitude of
- 8:26Speaker 1: singing and praising their God. Yea. And my soul did
- 8:30Speaker 1: long to be there. But behold, my limbs did receive
- 8:34Speaker 1: their strength again, and I stood upon my feet and
- 8:38Speaker 1: did manifest unto the people that I had been born
- 8:40Speaker 1: of God. Yea. And from that time even until now,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I have labored without ceasing, that I might bring souls
- 8:48Speaker 1: unto repentance, that I might bring them to taste of
- 8:52Speaker 1: the exceeding joy of which I did taste, that they
- 8:55Speaker 1: might also be born of God and be filled with
- 8:58Speaker 1: the Holy Ghost. Yea. And now behold, o, my son,
- 9:02Speaker 1: the Lord doth give me exceedingly great joy in the
- 9:04Speaker 1: fruit of my labors, for because of the word which
- 9:07Speaker 1: He has imparted unto me. Behold, many have been born
- 9:11Speaker 1: of God and have tasted as I have tasted, and
- 9:14Speaker 1: have seen I to eye as I have seen. Therefore
- 9:17Speaker 1: they do know of these things of which I have spoken,
- 9:20Speaker 1: as I do know. And the knowledge which I have
- 9:23Speaker 1: is of God. And I have been supported under trials
- 9:27Speaker 1: and troubles of every kind, Yea, and in all manner
- 9:30Speaker 1: of afflictions. Yea. God has delivered me from prison and
- 9:34Speaker 1: from bonds, and from death. Yea. And I do put
- 9:37Speaker 1: my trust in him, and he will still deliver me.
- 9:41Speaker 1: And I know that He will raise me up at
- 9:43Speaker 1: the last day to dwell with him in glory. Yea.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And I will praise him forever. For he has brought
- 9:49Speaker 1: our fathers out of Egypt, and he has swallowed up
- 9:52Speaker 1: the Egyptians in the Red Sea, and he led them
- 9:56Speaker 1: by his power into the promised land. Yea. And he
- 9:59Speaker 1: has delivered them out of bondage and captivity. From time
- 10:02Speaker 1: to time Yea. And he has also brought our fathers
- 10:06Speaker 1: out of the land of Jerusalem. And he has also,
- 10:09Speaker 1: by his everlasting power, delivered them out of bondage and
- 10:12Speaker 1: captivity from time to time, even down to the present day.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And I have always retained in remembrance their captivity, yea,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and ye also ought to retain in remembrance as I
- 10:23Speaker 1: have done their captivity. But behold, my son, this is
- 10:28Speaker 1: not all for ye ought to know, as I do
- 10:31Speaker 1: know that inasmuch as ye shall keep the commandments of God,
- 10:35Speaker 1: ye shall prosper in the land. And ye ought to
- 10:37Speaker 1: know also that inasmuch as ye will not keep the
- 10:40Speaker 1: commandments of God, ye shall be cut off from His presence.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Now this is according to his word Alma chapter thirty seven.
- 10:51Speaker 1: And now, my son, Heloman, I command you that ye
- 10:54Speaker 1: take the records which have been entrusted with me. And
- 10:57Speaker 1: I also command you that ye keep a record of
- 10:59Speaker 1: this people, according as I have done upon the plates
- 11:02Speaker 1: of Nephi. And keep all these things sacred which I
- 11:05Speaker 1: have kept, even as I have kept them, for it
- 11:08Speaker 1: is for a wise purpose that they are kept. And
- 11:12Speaker 1: these plates of brass, which contain these engravings, which have
- 11:15Speaker 1: the records of the holy scriptures upon them, which have
- 11:18Speaker 1: the genealogy of our forefathers, even from the beginning. Behold,
- 11:22Speaker 1: it has been prophesied by our fathers that they should
- 11:24Speaker 1: be kept and handed down from one generation to another,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and be kept and preserved by the hand of the Lord,
- 11:32Speaker 1: until they should go forth unto every nation, kindred tongue
- 11:36Speaker 1: and people, that they shall know of the mysteries contained thereon.
- 11:40Speaker 1: And now behold, if they are kept, they must retain
- 11:43Speaker 1: their brightness, yea. And they will retain their brightness yea.
- 11:47Speaker 1: And also shall all the plates which do contain that
- 11:50Speaker 1: which is wholly writ Now ye may suppose that this
- 11:53Speaker 1: is foolishness in me, But behold they say unto you,
- 11:57Speaker 1: that by small and simple things are great things brought
- 12:00Speaker 1: to pass. And small means in many instances doth confound
- 12:05Speaker 1: the wise, and the Lord God doth work by means
- 12:08Speaker 1: to bring about His great and eternal purposes. And by
- 12:12Speaker 1: very small means the Lord doth confound the wise, and
- 12:15Speaker 1: bringeth about the salvation of many souls. And now it
- 12:20Speaker 1: has hitherto been wisdom in God that these things should
- 12:23Speaker 1: be preserved. For behold, they have enlarged the memory of
- 12:26Speaker 1: this people Yea, and convinced many of the error of
- 12:29Speaker 1: their ways, and brought them to the knowledge of their God,
- 12:32Speaker 1: unto the salvation of their souls. Yea, I say unto you.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Were it not for these things that these records do contain,
- 12:40Speaker 1: which are on these plates, Amon and his brethren could
- 12:44Speaker 1: not have convinced so many thousands of the Lamanites of
- 12:47Speaker 1: the incorrect tradition of their fathers. Yea. These records and
- 12:50Speaker 1: their words brought them unto repentance, that is, they brought
- 12:54Speaker 1: them to the knowledge of the Lord, their God, and
- 12:57Speaker 1: to rejoice in Jesus Christ, their redeemer. And who knoweth
- 13:02Speaker 1: but what they will be the means of bringing many
- 13:04Speaker 1: thousands of them, yea, And also many thousands of our
- 13:06Speaker 1: stiff necked brethren, the Nephites, who are now hardening their
- 13:10Speaker 1: hearts in sin and iniquities, to the knowledge of their redeemer.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Now these mysteries are not yet fully made known unto me.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Therefore I shall forbear, and it may suffice if I
- 13:22Speaker 1: only say they are preserved for a wise purpose, which
- 13:25Speaker 1: purpose is known unto God. For He doth counsel and
- 13:28Speaker 1: wisdom over all his works and his paths are straight,
- 13:32Speaker 1: and his courus is one eternal round. Oh. Remember, remember,
- 13:37Speaker 1: my son, Heliman, how strict are the commandments of God.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And he said, if ye will keep my commandments, ye
- 13:44Speaker 1: shall prosper in the land. But if ye keep not
- 13:47Speaker 1: his commandments, ye shall be cut off from his presence.
- 13:50Speaker 1: And now, remember, my son, that God hath entrusted you
- 13:53Speaker 1: with these things which are sacred, which he has kept sacred,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and also which he will keep in preson serve for
- 14:00Speaker 1: a wise purpose in him, that he may show forth
- 14:03Speaker 1: his power unto future generations. And now behold, I tell
- 14:08Speaker 1: you by the spirit of prophecy, that if ye transgress
- 14:11Speaker 1: the commandments of God, behold, these things which are sacred
- 14:14Speaker 1: shall be taken away from you by the power of God,
- 14:18Speaker 1: and ye shall be delivered up unto Satan, that he
- 14:21Speaker 1: may sift you as chaff before the wind. But if
- 14:25Speaker 1: ye keep the commandments of God and do with these
- 14:28Speaker 1: things which are sacred, according to that which the Lord
- 14:30Speaker 1: doth command you, for you must appeal unto the Lord
- 14:34Speaker 1: for all things, whatsoever ye must do with them. Behold,
- 14:38Speaker 1: no power of Earth or Hell can take them from you.
- 14:42Speaker 1: For God is powerful to the fulfilling of all his words,
- 14:46Speaker 1: for he will fulfill all his promises which he shall
- 14:49Speaker 1: make unto you. For he has fulfilled his promises which
- 14:53Speaker 1: he has made unto our fathers. For he promised unto
- 14:57Speaker 1: them that he would preserve these things for a wise
- 15:00Speaker 1: purpose in him, that he might show forth his power
- 15:03Speaker 1: unto future generations. And now behold one purpose hath he fulfilled,
- 15:09Speaker 1: even to the restoration of many thousands of the Lamanites
- 15:11Speaker 1: to the knowledge of the truth. And he hath shown
- 15:14Speaker 1: forth his power in them. And he will also still
- 15:18Speaker 1: show forth his power in them unto future generations. Therefore
- 15:22Speaker 1: they shall be preserved. Therefore I command you, my son Helimann,
- 15:26Speaker 1: that ye be diligent in fulfilling all my words, and
- 15:30Speaker 1: that ye be diligent in keeping the commandments of God
- 15:33Speaker 1: as they are written. And now I will speak unto
- 15:36Speaker 1: you concerning those twenty four plates, that ye keep them,
- 15:40Speaker 1: that the mysteries and the works of darkness, and their
- 15:43Speaker 1: secret works, or the secret works of those people who
- 15:46Speaker 1: have been destroyed, may be made manifest unto this people.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Yea all their murders and robbings, and their plunderings, and
- 15:54Speaker 1: all their wickedness and abominations may be made manifest unto
- 15:57Speaker 1: this people, yea, And that ye ye preserve these interpreters.
- 16:02Speaker 1: For behold, the Lord saw that his people began to
- 16:05Speaker 1: work in darkness, yea, work secret murders and abominations. Therefore,
- 16:10Speaker 1: the Lord said, if they did not repent, they should
- 16:14Speaker 1: be destroyed from off the face of the earth. And
- 16:17Speaker 1: the Lord said, I will prepare unto my servant Gaziellum,
- 16:21Speaker 1: a stone which shall shine forth in darkness unto light,
- 16:25Speaker 1: that I may discover unto my people who serve me,
- 16:28Speaker 1: that I may discover unto them the works of their brethren, yea,
- 16:31Speaker 1: their secret works, their works of darkness, and their wickedness
- 16:36Speaker 1: and abominations. And now, my son, these interpreters were prepared
- 16:41Speaker 1: that the word of God might be fulfilled, which he spake, saying,
- 16:45Speaker 1: I will bring forth out of darkness unto light all
- 16:48Speaker 1: their secret works and their abominations. And except they repent,
- 16:52Speaker 1: I will destroy them from off the face of the earth.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And I will bring to light all their secrets and
- 16:58Speaker 1: abominations unto every nation that she shall hereafter possess the land.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And now, my son, we see that they did not
- 17:05Speaker 1: repent therefore they have been destroyed, and thus far the
- 17:09Speaker 1: word of God has been fulfilled. Yea. Their secret abominations
- 17:13Speaker 1: have been brought out of darkness and made known unto us.
- 17:17Speaker 1: And now, my son, I command you that ye retain
- 17:21Speaker 1: all their oaths and their covenants, and their agreements in
- 17:24Speaker 1: their secret abominations, yea. And all their signs and their
- 17:28Speaker 1: wonders ye shall keep from this people, that they know them, not,
- 17:32Speaker 1: lest peradventure they should fall into darkness also and be destroyed.
- 17:36Speaker 1: For behold, there is a curse upon all this land,
- 17:39Speaker 1: that destruction shall come upon all those workers of darkness,
- 17:43Speaker 1: according to the power of God. But there fully ripe.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Therefore I desire that this people might not be destroyed.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Therefore ye shall keep these secret plans of their oaths
- 17:54Speaker 1: and their covenants from this people. And only their wickedness
- 17:57Speaker 1: and their murders and their abominations shall ye make known
- 18:00Speaker 1: unto them. And ye shall teach them to abhor such
- 18:03Speaker 1: wickedness and abominations and murders. And ye shall also teach
- 18:07Speaker 1: them that these people were destroyed on account of their
- 18:10Speaker 1: wickedness and abominations and their murders. For behold, they murdered
- 18:14Speaker 1: all the prophets of the Lord, who came among them
- 18:17Speaker 1: to declare unto them concerning their iniquities, and the blood
- 18:21Speaker 1: of those whom they murdered, did cry unto the Lord
- 18:23Speaker 1: their God, for vengeance upon those who were their murderers.
- 18:27Speaker 1: And thus the judgments of God did come upon these
- 18:30Speaker 1: workers of darkness and secret combinations, Yea. And cursed be
- 18:36Speaker 1: the land forever. Endeavor unto those workers of darkness and
- 18:39Speaker 1: secret combinations, even unto destruction, except they repent before they
- 18:43Speaker 1: are fully ripe. And now, my son, remember the words
- 18:48Speaker 1: which I have spoken unto you. Trust not those secret
- 18:51Speaker 1: plans unto this people. But teach them an everlasting hatred
- 18:55Speaker 1: against sin and iniquity. Preach unto them repentance and faith
- 19:00Speaker 1: on the Lord Jesus Christ. Teach them to humble themselves
- 19:04Speaker 1: and to be meek and lowly in heart. Teach them
- 19:08Speaker 1: to withstand every temptation of the devil with their faith
- 19:11Speaker 1: on the Lord Jesus Christ. Teach them to never be
- 19:15Speaker 1: weary of good works, but to be meek and lowly
- 19:18Speaker 1: in heart, for such shall find rest to their souls.
- 19:22Speaker 1: O remember, my son, and learn wisdom in thy youth. YEA.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God. Yea,
- 19:31Speaker 1: and cry unto God for all thy support. YEA. Let
- 19:35Speaker 1: all thy doings be unto the Lord. And whithersoever thou goest,
- 19:39Speaker 1: let it be in the Lord. YEA. Let all thy
- 19:42Speaker 1: thoughts be directed unto the Lord. YEA. Let the affections
- 19:46Speaker 1: of thy heart be placed upon the Lord. Forever. Counsel
- 19:51Speaker 1: with the Lord and all thy doings, and he will
- 19:53Speaker 1: direct thee for good. YEA. When thou liest down at night,
- 19:57Speaker 1: lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over
- 19:59Speaker 1: ye you in your sleep. And when thou risest in
- 20:02Speaker 1: the morning, let thy heart be full of thanks unto God.
- 20:07Speaker 1: And if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted
- 20:09Speaker 1: up at the last day. And now, my son, I
- 20:13Speaker 1: have somewhat to say concerning the thing which our fathers
- 20:16Speaker 1: call a ball or director, or our fathers called it leahona,
- 20:21Speaker 1: which is being interpreted a compass. And the Lord prepared it.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And behold, there cannot any man work after the manner
- 20:29Speaker 1: of so curious a workmanship. And behold it was prepared
- 20:34Speaker 1: to show unto our fathers the chorus which they should
- 20:36Speaker 1: travel in the wilderness. And it did work for them
- 20:40Speaker 1: according to their faith in God. Therefore, if they had
- 20:43Speaker 1: faith to believe that God could cause that those spindles
- 20:47Speaker 1: should point the way they should go, behold, it was done.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Therefore they had this miracle, and also many other miracles
- 20:55Speaker 1: wrought by the power of God day by day. Nevertheless,
- 20:59Speaker 1: because those miracles were worked by small means, it did
- 21:02Speaker 1: show unto them marvelous works. They were slothful and forgot
- 21:07Speaker 1: to exercise their faith and diligence. And then those marvelous
- 21:11Speaker 1: works ceased, and they did not progress in their journey. Therefore,
- 21:17Speaker 1: they tarried in the wilderness, or did not travel a
- 21:20Speaker 1: direct course, and were afflicted with hunger and thirst because
- 21:24Speaker 1: of their transgressions. And now, my son, I would ye
- 21:28Speaker 1: should understand that these things are not without a shadow.
- 21:32Speaker 1: For as our fathers were slothful to give heed to
- 21:35Speaker 1: this compass, Now these things were temporal, they did not prosper.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Even so it is with things which are spiritual. For behold,
- 21:44Speaker 1: it is as easy to give heed to the Word
- 21:46Speaker 1: of Christ, which will point to you a straight course
- 21:49Speaker 1: to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to
- 21:52Speaker 1: give heed to this compass, which would point unto them
- 21:56Speaker 1: a straight course to the promised land. And now I say,
- 22:00Speaker 1: is there not a type in this thing? For just
- 22:04Speaker 1: as surely as this director did bring our fathers by
- 22:07Speaker 1: following its course to the promised land, shall the words
- 22:11Speaker 1: of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond
- 22:15Speaker 1: this veil of sorrow into a far better land of promise. O,
- 22:20Speaker 1: my son, do not let us be slothful because of
- 22:22Speaker 1: the easiness of the way. For so was it with
- 22:25Speaker 1: our fathers. For so is it prepared for them, that
- 22:28Speaker 1: if they would look, they might live. Even so it
- 22:32Speaker 1: is with us. The way is prepared, and if we
- 22:36Speaker 1: will look, we may live forever. And now, my son,
- 22:41Speaker 1: see that ye take care of these sacred things. Yea,
- 22:44Speaker 1: see that ye look to God and live. Go unto
- 22:48Speaker 1: this people and declare the word, and be sober, my son,
- 22:53Speaker 1: farewell and of Almah chapters thirty five through thirty seven,
